"But that doesn't mean that it's not like if I'm not writing about a restaurant, I'm really stressed out about it. Like if I go to a place and I realize I can't write about it, I'm devastated because I'm just like scrambling. You know, even if I'm kind of on top of things, it's like I still have to file something that week. And so even if I'm working a few columns ahead, it still means that I'm suddenly going to find myself probably backed into a corner where it's like, what am I going to write about this week? It's just like a weekly writing anything on a weekly basis is really hard. And I think it can seem simpler because it's usually things that come out weekly or short. And it's sort of can seem like someone has just jotted something off because it's maybe only a few paragraphs, but I would argue that that is really challenging. And it's hard to write short. Stressed out. Yeah. Everyone should know that behind the scenes I'm enormously stressed out. No, but it is, but yeah, of course, it's super fun and it's literally my childhood fantasy. Like there's no and I don't think I'll ever get sick of the theater of it. Like I love restaurants and I love going to a new restaurant and I love just the whole the whole pageantry of it. I love sitting down and being handed a menu. I love looking at the menu online beforehand. I love someone just bringing me incredible things to try even if they're not if they don't end up being good or interesting just like the sort of anticipation of it all and yeah it's a totally thrilling, wonderful thing. Do you think you can slash want slash will do this forever? I don't know. I mean, I could see a world in which I do it forever and if you look around like people who do this tend to do it for a really long time and I think there's something really kind of amazing about that and I do feel like I've noticed that the longer I do it the more of a relationship people feel like they have with me, which I like. Maybe that's like a totally egotistical thing to say, but I feel like just very, it feels very validating to realize that someone could have been reading me for the whole time I've been doing it and feels like it's something that they look forward to. I feel like people feel like we're in conversation. In a way that is meaningful to me because I think that's how I like to be a reader. And so to feel like I'm creating that experience for readers is really a cool thing. But I also kind of can't imagine eating like this. For the rest of my life or even for many more years, it doesn't really feel sustainable. Clearly it is for some people, but it's just like, it is such an excessive thing. I'm not a person who can control myself, particularly. So it's like, if I go out to eat, I'm eating everything. I'm not like, I'm not, I think there are people who will have one bite of something or who just are very just careful about what they're eating and how they're eating. And I totally just let myself go into the experience. And that seems like a dangerous and so far it's been fine, but I don't know, I feel like aging and eating, it's like you have to, at some point, kind of rein it in, right? I don't know. So one thing that schedule stress and it won't be the lack of casual eating, it's just like, it might be too much food. Yeah, well, it is, yeah, it's a lot of food. It's like, yeah, just like in restaurant food is very different than food that anybody makes at home. You know, it's like, I don't think the body is meant to eat like that. Every single day. It's like a high impact sport. Yeah. Yeah, it sounds to me that what you're saying is, yeah, like you like to play forever. Yeah. But I'm Tom Brady. But Tom Brady at some point started like only eating like strawberries. A quarter of an avocado. Or does he not eat strawberries? He either eats strawberries or does he might eat like one strawberry cut up. Right. Over several hours. Right. You're going to have to get into pliability. Exactly. Yeah, but on the other hand, I remember when I got the job, a friend said to me, oh, so you're just done, like this is what you're going to do for the rest of your life. And I hadn't hadn't really occurred to me. I was like, yeah, maybe. So maybe I could totally see myself looking up in 20 years and being like, wow, I'm still the restaurant. I mean, a lot of things have to fall into place for that to be true. The magazine industry has to keep afloat, so knock on wood. But it is hard to imagine giving up something that has so many obvious advantages. I mean, imagine how disappointed ten year old Hannah would be. Yeah, that's the thing. And what would I do? What would I do after? If you achieve your ultimate childhood dream, what do you do after that? I don't want to know. It seems scary. Sounds to me like you got to start to imply ability stuff. Okay. David Adams Cleveland Tells Us About His New Novel 'Gods of Deception'

"The title of the book is gods of deception, the author is David Adams, Cleveland. Now just so you know his literary bona fides, Evan Thomas, if you don't know who Evan Thomas is, you need to time out time out. Evan Thomas says gods of deception is a lushly vivid tale of a haunted time. Kirkus reviews writes truly compelling and engaged fictionalized account of an absorbing espionage case. On and on it goes, this is not just, well written, but it's about an important part of our history. And I'm just thrilled right now to have the author David Adams Cleveland welcome. Eric is delightful to be with you. Do you know Evan Thomas? I mean, that's a pretty wonderful blurb from a respected author. I know Evan just at a distance, not personal. Okay, so part of the reason I was excited to have you on is because of the background of the story. And I realized there are a lot of younger people who are not familiar with it's really one of the most important things that happened in the latter part of the 20th century. Talk to my audience or tell us the background of your novel gods of deception. The background of the novel takes place or it begins to take place in a trial of the century. 1949, 1950, the trial of Alger Hiss for espionage. Alger Hiss was convicted of perjury about passing top secret State Department papers to Whittaker chambers in the late 1930s. At the time that didn't seem like such a big deal, the crime itself. But the question about whether Alger Hiss was innocent or guilty, divided the country for 50 years, this was a very, very controversial subject. Really, astonishing that even though he'd been convicted by a jury of his peers with overwhelming preponderance of the evidence for his conviction, a lot of people still believed that he was innocent that he had been framed by Nixon and the FBI. And for 50 years, this divided the country. But at the same time, the conviction was a wake-up call to America. That in fact, the U.S. government had been penetrated by spies like Alger Hiss.

Hunter Biden on the Brink of Indictment, but Who Gave the Green Light?

"We also have all the chatter this last week of Hunter Biden's looming indictment, or even CNN is talking about. Hunter Biden's indictment. We've played this clip before, but I think it's worth playing again, just listening very carefully if CNN is covering it this way. What are they really trying to tell you? What are they really trying to communicate? They're trying to do a wink and a nod like, hey, Biden might not be around for much longer. Play cut 42. Well, Brianna, this is a very real, very substantial investigation of potentially serious federal crimes. We are seeing federal prosecutors in Delaware do exactly what you would expect to see federal prosecutors do in this situation. They're talking to witnesses. They're bringing people into the grand jury. They're issuing subpoenas. And I would expect, as Evan reported, they're now gaining steam and they need to make a decision, I think, in the at least intermediate future. This case has been going on for four years and there is a realistic chance. This could result in federal charges. Of course, then we be in unprecedented political territory, not legal territory, but a situation of having potentially the Justice Department prosecuting and trying to imprison the son of the president. So I'm far too cynical to believe that all of a sudden they found all this evidence and now they're going after Hunter Biden. No, no, no. They're doing this because someone gave the thumbs up. Someone authorized the green light. You don't get a federal investigation into the son of the president of the United States, unless that president really isn't being very useful to the party or the machine that he represents.

"So you have The Washington Post coming out saying the laptop is true. Miranda divine to her great credit led with the story with the article laptop from hell. The New York Post published it and they lost their Twitter account for even talking about it. And now you're starting to see in mainstream regime media pretty extensive coverage about a an indictment that might be looming because of a very serious and real federal investigation against Hunter Biden. And look, it's not like Hunter Biden is being investigated for doing something completely unrelated from his father. It's not like they're investigating Hunter Biden for not paying taxes because he's a sports star for the Lakers or for the New York rangers. Now this is because a business dealings he was doing with his father for his father and because his father who was who he was. The federalist dot com kind of summarizes some of truck grassley's findings, as chuck grassley and Ron Johnson have been on the story for years now and smeared at every single turn by the activist media but turns out they were totally right and completely on the Mark. Meanwhile, the activist press was not, according to the documents obtained by the senators, energy company CEFC, and an official arm of the Chinese government paid, Hunter Biden $100,000 cash further credit to a wasco, hunter's firm. There's no middle man in this transaction. This is a $100,000 wire transfer from what is effectively an arm of the Chinese government directly to Hunter

"But right now I'm doing a radio show with our friend, John zamick. John, can we change the channel to talk about the Supreme Court confirmation hearings that are going on right now? Yeah, I've got another piece of the stream. She's not to want to broadly, but she'll do. Tangy Brown Jackson represents Democrat values perfectly. Now, by the way, this piece is so sarcastic. I want to warn people that the level of sarcasm, this is the one. Yeah. Yeah, this is the one where you go out so far on a limb that they're going to people are not going to understand that you're being sarcastic, but please continue, my friend. Right, thank you. Well, when justice Breyer announced he was going to retire. And we knew that the secret committee formerly known as Joe Biden would have a chance to pick a Supreme Court Justice. I immediately came forward with a few arguments. So I said, first of all, I want to make it clear that whoever the secret committee nominates sexually molested me at some point during the 1980s. At the party. You know, it's going to take time. It might have been a party. It was a son. It was a major I'm pretty sure I was there. Yeah, it was Evan though. Even though it was a one story house, I believe this happened upstairs. And I was downstairs while this stuff was going on upstairs. I can't believe you're remembering it as vaguely as I am. It's amazing. It must be true. Yeah, yeah, it was somewhere in a major city in the eastern states on the eastern seaboard at some point in the 1980s. And I was willing to fill in more details once, you know, once Biden announced the person's actual name. Then it became clear that this was going to be a quota pick. This is going to be bean county. And it was going to be a black woman. And we knew it wasn't going to be Janice Rogers Brown. It was a pro life brilliant evangelical happens to be a black woman. That's someone Joe Biden, filibuster. To keep from getting aboard into a federal court. We knew it was going to be some kind of radical leftist. Well, I came forward and I had another suggestion. I thought that to really make clear that this was about racial justice and gender justice. They should pick a candidate who didn't check any of the old old timey elitist boxes like having been a judge or a lawyer or having passed the bar. They should pick someone for whom justice was the main criterion. So I suggested that to want to broly be appointed.

Evan Rachel Wood Drops the Hammer on Marilyn Manson

"You know who else has seen the light lately? Evan Rachel Wood. I don't know what it is about her, but she's, to me, she's very attractive. And she's the kind of girl that kind of sneaks up on you. You know, she's not the most beautiful girl in the room, but if you stand back and look at her, you know what? Evan Rachel Wood is very beautiful girl. She's a she keeps herself together. She's well healed if I may say she's, I just, she's very attractive. What bond is being battery she was fucking Marilyn Manson for years. That I can't understand. Any girl who does that, I can't understand. He's a filthy, ugly, weirdo, dangerous drug addicted pig. You go down that alley, you're gonna come back with bumps and bruises and scars. And Evan Rachel Wood did. And now she's speaking publicly about being a victim of domestic violence and sexual abuse at the hands of this asshole. She took her story to the House judiciary committee three years ago in an effort to help get a sexual assault survivor's bill passed. And last year she named Malin Edison as her abuser, she was put them from 2006 to 2010, and many women have also come forward and accused him. By the way, his real name is Brian Warner. They've accused him of several forms of abuse. And four months ago, I didn't really get into it but four months ago, police raided his house after they got a warrant and this ongoing sexual assault investigation. So it's not so it's enough evidence to make people believe how evil this guy really is and was. But amazingly, and we've all heard the stories from his ex-girlfriends of how he beat them, kept them in room, standing up for hours, made them do cocaine, passed them along to buddies for sex. He's a real piece of shit.

"Is ridiculously impressed with. No, he can still be a little more consistent shooting the ball. And he's been a little up and down with his effort during the season this year, but his ability to create space is ability to get to the rim and finish to go with the physical gifts and the potential he has on the defensive end, and the he's he's kind of that new age guard Conrad that off the ballot just so tough to contain and he's really good and pick and roll situations. And I think he's one at least for now there's there's a lot to play out. We'll see these guys all star games quite a bit coming up in March and April and McDonald's game Mike hoop summit and I'm looking forward to evaluate. And then further James Wiseman SATA really big senior season much improved from the summer where he was hurt. But just really impressed with his rim running overall athletic ability. He's continues to improve and progress on the offense event. No he's had a really big season. He's going to he's honestly gonna give us a tough decision to make when it comes down to it at the top of these rankings. So it's been pretty impressive to see him kind of bounce back and really have a strong senior season. And then comet I saw Cole Anthony out in LA this past weekend at the Nike extravaganza is probably the best. I've seen him play. And. For those that don't know. It's the son of former NBA player, Greg Anthony. But Cole is a six foot three point guard. I think he's really developing into a point guard. I've always called him a combo guard. But if this past weekend was any indication, he is progressing nicely. And it's as under control and patient as I've seen him, and he really looked silicate run his team get his guys in his spots. And one thing I noticed about him is always talking on both ends offense getting his guys in spots defensively making sure that everybody's in the right spot. And everybody's there to rotate and just really impressed with his performance this past weekend. So those are the guys I think at the top of the two thousand nineteen class that have separated themselves, and we'll see how plays out here over the next couple of months. Yeah. You mentioned James wise. But I know that he's already committed to Memphis. But the other two are not where do things stand in near recruitment. And do they have a favorite as of right now? Yes. So you mentioned that James Wiseman off the board headed the Memphis. Play for penny. Hardaway Anthony Edwards. I think we're gonna see his recruitment come to an end. I don't know here. Some time the next couple of weeks. He has already taken official visit to Georgia. He's been to Florida state, unofficially. He took a visit to Kentucky official Kentucky this past weekend. And he's going to go see Kansas on February ninth. I would actually be surprised if he sets up other official visits. But I think it's certainly a possibility. But I think we're gonna see a college decision from him sometime within the next month. The teams that I would say are the favorite, maybe Georgia and Florida state. But I do know that that visit to Kentucky went well. And and you can never count them out. So a little ways to go. But I think that the news here is I don't think that far away from Anthony Edwards making his college choice in terms of coal, Anthony, he is put this off has been adamant about an actually spoke to him at Nike extravaganza. And I asked him when he was going to make his assistant and all he would tell me was in the year of two thousand nineteen. So he. Give me a very director. Great response. But in the year of two thousand nineteen is what he said, I think the North Carolina's the favourite here organised certainly heavily involved in all men was out there and watch them at the Nike extravaganza. Then Tony Stubblefield organising came the next day. But I would say that North Carolina would be the school. I think is the favorite right now. But I would guess that we're a couple months away from from him making his college choice. I know I'm certainly looking forward to your these guys end up. Yeah. It'll be it'll be interesting because I think those decisions could really impact college basketball next year. So Anthony Edwards colon curious to see how those decisions play out Karam, man..

"He is just an absolute perfect fit for Chris Mack. And I think he's probably the most important player on that Louisville basketball team. That's now ranked in the top twenty they're fifteen and five but this kid, he's just so tough and physical. He's a little undersized at six five six six, but he's a tremendous rebounder averaging nearly seven rebounds a game. And I think maybe the difference in scenario that he's improved and showed a lot of growth of the past. Couple of years is catching shoot three point ability. It's made twenty five three pointers on the season. And I think he's kind of the heart and soul that Louisville basketball team. And he deserves attention in credit because without him a little not fifteen and five I think he's arguably the most important player on that. Team in the third guy. Conrad that I would go with is over at Virginia Tech. And this is a kid that I really liked in in high school. I had him ranked in the top seventy players in the country. Six foot two guard. Justin robinson. He is coming off the best game of his college career thirty five point game where he hit nine threes, and he tossed out eight assists, very impressive. But he he's having a big year for Virginia Tech averaging over fourteen points game, five point, six assists impacts it in so many ways for those guys. He knows how to run a team. He's obviously making jump shots shooting. Forty two percent from three. This is a kid that I just think brings it on both ends. And he hasn't gotten the love that he deserves nationally as a senior that stuck around and that's bought in. And I said it about Dwayne son in Louisville, But he's the heart and soul of that Virginia Tech basketball team in a tremendous leader. And gather deserves a lot of credit for the season. He's having and. Virginia Tech sixteen and three and Justin Robinson's big part of that. It's so tough in college basketball because there's just so many games happening. There's so many different colleges. But when it comes to March, you know that these guys will be talked about we've on your recruiting. 'cause I know that you've been out and about a ton lately you've been value in high school talent, the past three months who do you think the best prospect is in two thousand nineteen? Well, we we moved Anthony Edwards over at twenty four seven sports to number one back in November. And I've seen Anthony Edwards. And James wise, and coal Anthony does the guys we have one two and three in that order quite a bit over the high school season. And I still think that Anthony Edwards is the number one prospect. I think he has tremendous upside I six foot five very impressive physically. He's got a strong strongly built frame. He's a tremendous athlete. He's got a scoring package that.

"Guys their roles are so key and important for Kentucky success now digging with ashen Hagans, you just brought him up over the past month. He's actually been the one that really gets offense starts during the drink for the team. I mean, he's dishing the ball over the place. I mean, he's really starting to come into his own fence. I mean, basically, the start of January what's changed him to make this leap. I think the biggest thing that changed is they had a addition by subtraction. And I'm referring to quad green transferring, and that's not necessarily hate on on quad. I think Kentucky was lacking identity at the point guard spot and ashen hagan's is no longer have to look over his shoulder and see when he's coming out. And he's the guy he's got the ball in his hands. He's guy running the show, and he's responded in a big way. And obviously he gave a lot of confidence from his ability to defend, and he's honestly, I think I've. Said this on this podcast before. But I think he's one of the more competitive kids that I've covered and I would put him right up with Michael Kidd Gilchrist and Josh Jackson from evaluating high school. I mean, this is dude that loves competition. He loves to compete. He loves to lock up the opposing teams best defender. And I think he's he's really taking advantage of an opportunity when quad left to step up fill that role in his confidence is only grown, and he's he's progressing very nicely. And I think the other thing you gotta keep in mind is he was a freshman and a lot of times, we just expect these kids to come in and be great will not everyone can come in and have instant impact like John wall from game one. If you look at Ashton Hagans numbers over the past couple of games. Vanderbilt eight assists, Kansas, eight assists, Mississippi State, nine assists. Auburn six assists. I mean, that's really impressive three of those teams. Ranked among the top twenty two teams in the country and he tossed out twenty three assists against those teams. So I just think from confidence standpoint you see him building. And that's a good sign for Kentucky because that position is is ever important in to have a guy like him that can disrupt the opposing team's offense. But also get your offense going and really run run. A team is extremely important. Yeah. I mean, there's not a better time in college basketball to really start putting your roster together and really start having glue come together and obviously with hero playing well PJ Washington plane while on the stretch and now at international Hagans is this Kentucky team contender this year. I they were preseason favorite. But now it feels like they've kind of revamped everything and they're ready to go into March. This is a completely different team than the team that played first game of the season. And I think a lot of people wrote them off. And I think the crazy thing is in Kentucky fans have seen this over the years. It's like this is a team a young team. So the team with freshmen in major roles not just asking. Hagans and not just Tyler hero. But Emmanuel quickly has a big role. EJ Montgomery has a big role. Jamal Baker didn't play it last year. And now he's back from an injury and his has a role pedia Washington Lee, a sophomore the guy the only guy on this team with experiences re Travis and I didn't even mention Calvin Johnson who's leading them in scoring fourteen game. So I know that's a long way for me to say, certainly they are a national title contender..

"I don't know five six minutes from campus. So I can slide over there. And I was there for what turned into a massacre Kentucky was up forty five to fifteen in the first half. They looked really impressive, by the way. Maybe as impressive as they've looked all season. Oh, Bryce, drew the Vanderbilt head coach was reading about them in the post game. And you mentioned PJ Washington. One of the best games of his college basketball career. It was pretty dominant nine of fifteen from the field three of three from the three point line, twelve rebounds, three steals. Twenty six points. PJ was nothing short of tremendous. And he impacted the game in every way. He rebounded. He played hard. He ran the court. He finished around the basket, he made three three pointers as I mentioned. And that's you know, that's been an area that he's shown a little growth this season. But he's coming off. They beat Kansas. But he was four from three in that game. So his ability to stretch the floor is a pleasant surprise for them this season, man. He was he was just really effective if if PJ Washington consistently plays like that Kentucky is is a different team. Jay definitely affected the game in many ways last night. And he was dominant down the stretch. How do you feel about his NBA draft documents point? Do you think he's leaning more towards coming out now or sticking around Kentucky? Well, I think he's definitely gonna head to the draft. I don't forsee him coming back to Kentucky for a third year. Now that said if he were to stick around and decide he wants to go to college for two more years. I think PJ Washington could turn himself into an all American caliber player and likely this you see player of the year. But I don't foresee that happening. I think his eyes are set on. I'm going to the NBA and try to make that work. Now that said he is a six foot seven power four. Now, he does have a massive wingspan at seven two in his game is developed some. But I would say as of now from a draft stock standpoint he's looking second round or late. I and he's going to have to continue to develop and continue to develop that jump shot show, some consistency there if he's going to make the NBA and make a difference. But I definitely think that he's he's likely out of there. Now as of right now, I'm this Kentucky team is she the best player on this team. Who's most important for this Kentucky team to make it even March? I don't know that he's the best player. Obviously he changes the outlook of that team when he's playing like he did against Vanderbilt the guy that I think is probably the most important piece would be Tyler hero. And I think if you've watched this Kentucky team over the past couple of weeks. They've progressively looked better in better. And I think some of that has to do with Tyler hero playing better and better, actually. I thought he was really good in that game last night to more from scoring standpoint not necessarily shooting Saint point everybody thinks he's just a shooter. He's so much more than that. He was six thirteen from the field last night and outside of a Dunkin finish at the rim. It was mainly mid range stuff. Pulling up hitting runners floaters. This is a kid that can really score. And I think you can make a very strong case that he's the most important piece to that puzzle. Because not only they need somebody that can score like that from the perimeter. But also somebody that can keep the defense honest with a long range shot the other guy think you could make a case for would be Ashton Hagans and his completely different the reason that he's so important to them is the havoc that he causes on the defensive end in with his ball pressure is averaging two point three steals a game. But he just takes guys out of their offense with his defensive ball pressure and his ability to slide feet and his toughness physicality, but I think just because of his natural scoring ability. In potential shooter that Tyler hero might be the most important piece to that Kentucky team. But obviously, this is a team that's improving and getting better..

"I believe are the two best prospects that'll play in that game. Yeah. Definitely. So you are arguably at the best high school tournament in the country who Paul classic any big takeaways from that yet, you know, this is kind of goes along with McDonald's all American game kid that made the game Scottie Lewis. He's going to Florida. He was put together. Probably the most impressive performance. I saw this past weekend. Six five pushing six six long, really good athlete. He actually guarded Jade mcdaniels who I mentioned a minute ago held them four of nineteen from the field clamps. Yes. Big time defender, big time athlete. I think the difference with Scotty is. His weaknesses always been shooting. And he hit both his three point attempts in like three or four mid range jump shot. So you see that improving? I think he's a guy. That's that's really turning it up at the right time at when you're evaluating guys. Like specially senior season. It's funny. I get a lot of a well. My guy scored third thirty tonight. And you know, he's averaging thirty I kind of want to say, well, he's a high major player in. It's his senior season that's supposed to be doing. But guys like Williamson who had just mentioned and Scottie Lewis. It's nice to see the constant progression. And that's what Samuels done, but on Scotties standpoint of seen him so much, and it's just been nice to like this past weekend. Just see where he's progress as a shooter the confidence said he's he's been able to grow. And those are the type of guys that you wanna bet on the ones that are continuously getting better and getting better late to. Yeah. No, definitely. I mean to go along that thing people always think that just because kids scoring thirty forty points that they should be higher up. I remember I went to high school against. Aaron craft Aaron craft in highschool average, thirty five forty points. A game went through the smart smaller to your school gets Ohio State and people are like these kids stud, but offensively he can't do anything. I have not talked about this for. Aircraft was awesome airing Aaron craft arguably played with him I played against him. So going against him clamps. Yeah. And then ever score on them. I I might have had a bucket. See back. No, no. I mean in high school, though, he was he was he was insatiable on both ends of the floor. But all fence what he could do was unbelievable. And then he went to Ohio State and people wondered what happened to his game. I mean in my regards I played against him Traber, Jared cylinder JD Witherspoon all those guys. And craft was the one that kind of made that all high Allred team, really really work and people just got to realize that these kids, they're studs. There's a reason why the rain tie. But for sure for sure and another kid that goes along those lines two lamelo ball is back to playing high school basketball. Is he can be playing college ball next year? What's happening with him? I mean, I wouldn't bet. I wouldn't bet any money that he would be plenty of college basketball, and no money will. I just don't think it's like, I don't I don't see how it's possible. I mean, what happens they have a shoe? They have he has his own shoe. He's been I mean, it's if they wanted him to play college basketball, he wouldn't be promoting shoe. He wouldn't have gone overseas. And they say didn't take money somebody got money out of it. I don't see how it's possible for him to play college basketball. I share. And honestly, I don't even know if that's what they want. I can't pretend to know. What lavar ball wants or what lamelo ball wants? But outside looking in like, it just seems like another ploy to kind of build some. Attention. And I could totally see them taking this new G league route and get in the. You so bad for one hundred twenty five thousand dollars and going to the league and and going that route or professional any any high school that goes to the G league him, especially he is very slight. Why not just that people? He's gonna have a target on his back. But it also. Yeah, he would. Maybe he takes international deal to and he could probably get some good money doing that. I just don't see how the college basketball thing would would work..

"I mean, he averaged over eleven points a game as a freshman shot at thirty eight percent from the three I actually think he's a better shooter than he's showed this season. And he's right around that thirty five percent clip from three this year, but he has the physical makeup that she look for a guard prospect that six five and long he's athlete. He can impact the game on both ends, obviously if you play for Chris beard, you're going to you're going to get after it on the defensive end, but he's having a ridiculous season. And the numbers he puts up are impressive. And like I said, I actually think he's a better shooter than he shown. Yeah. Yeah. He's look good shooting the ball. I mean, you obviously tell he has a good base. He has a good setup. And I mean, he gets himself in good positions to score the basketball. That's for sure I I know from Washington against Duke. And I've seen a couple of Texas Tech games. We hasn't quite as. Much as the Duke game. Because the game was almost like a coming out party for him. Yeah. It wasn't coming out for for it. I mean, I think most people that do this on a day to day basis. Probably knew knew who he was. But that game was the one that that kind of set it over the top for him because he was playing Duke, and he's playing three of the top four picks or or maybe the three top three picks. The next year is NBA draft. Not real quick you still Zion going to RJ one right now, I have RJ one. But I think it's I think it's a tough call. I think you know, one aspect, and you and I were talking about it off air, and I was talking about it with another colleague earlier this week is like the at some point. I wonder how the marketability of Zion plays into it. Yeah. In terms of putting butts into seats. And obviously, I think that the team that drafts number one is going to take the who they think is the best player long-term prospect. But I just wonder if that stuff seeps in a little, but I think RJ as as of right now, he's still my one eye. Actually, don't think RJ's played up to his potentially certainly hasn't shot it to the potential that I expect him to. Zion obviously has been special this year though. And I think it's a close call on its I've gone back and forth with this year already. And I'm sure I will tell more times till June. Obviously, I still have concerns with the shot. Yeah. But so explosive I mean, just freakish and the Motors ramped up with him to specially compared to high school and by all accounts, like they both work extremely hard from talking to people around the Duke program. So it's going to be a fun one to track. Yeah. Iron sharpens iron for sure. And to go along that same basis, I've been with you the whole time, I think RG Barrett is the number one pick. But you know, I mean right now between the Cleveland Cavaliers Chicago Bulls, the New York Knicks I would find it very hard to imagine all three of those teams need player or need people to come to the seats. I mean, New York and the garden always has a ton of people come up a man what Zion would do for the Cavaliers who as of right now. My buddy went to the bulls game on Martin Luther King junior day got tickets for three dollars. I think if you had Zion. You might be able to get a little more money out of those tickets. That's for sure. Well, yeah. Jay Z sitting courtside earlier this week..

"He's long. He can score. But in terms of in terms of Mirant in this draft. Like, I think in some ways I don't want to say he saved the draft. But like this is this is an awful draft top to bottom. It just is now got some big names at the top like Zion and RJ, but this thing falls off quick. So it's kind of cool that we've had this kid that you know, even going into the season, we knew it was going to be good. I I had them in my I think Adam eleven and my first big board in mid October. We knew is going to be good. But my he's just taken off in such a positive direction, and it's been awesome and fun to watch. Yeah. Again, like I said Murray stays playing Belmont tonight. It'd be nine pm eastern six PM Pacific. You gotta check this kid out. He does that unwrap lettuces and now going back to make a little bit of comparison. Because I know this is what you're great at doing. I hate comparisons. No, I'm talking about. I'm I'm talking in general of if you had to take one between Darius garland Moran for the NBA who takes well before the season. I would've said Darius. I'm a big believer in Darius. I think now it's a little tougher. I go back and forth. I think right now in part of it's because I haven't we didn't get to see, you know, I think I don't think Darius stock has fallen a ton. But what he wasn't able to do was improve it, and John Moran has had that opportunity if that makes sense. So I think as of today, I would take John rant. Because of the playmaking passing and the freakish athletic ability. But at the same time, I think it's should be noted that I think Darius garland is going to be a tremendous prospect. I would have as long as he's fully healthy. No issues drafting him in the top eight. If you need a point guard, and I think there's a lot of value in his shooting the pace that he plays that and his playmaking off the balance. So that was my cop out answer. But John Moran. Yeah. No doubt. Now back to you hating comparisons. How frustrated does it make you when you see comparisons? Like, John Maranta Russell Westbrook. As as frustrating when I see the fifteen comparisons that have been attached design Williamson, you know, I mean, it's just unfair. I mean, the guy is I mean Charles Barkley and the Brown put together. Yeah. Yeah. Whatever I mean. Yeah. The they'll like one there should be a rule and all of basketball that no high school player is allowed to be compared to LeBron. I agree. And it's just it's unfair like putting Russell. Westbrook tag on John Moran is unfair. Now. If you want to say like they're they're facets of his game..

How argument I'm pins has welcome to our side of the hood misery first class over here took first class from what can note, Tennessee, all the way to LA this morning. Yes. I am. Glad to be in LA. I was in winter weather last week in Springfield mass. How about this? It was negative three degrees where I was on Monday. Now, I'm in sunny, LA, seventy degrees. I'm going to hang out on Manhattan beach later today. I'm fired up to be here. Amen. I grew up in that stuff. And I'm just happy to be here as well. Now you actually at this Tennessee Vanderbilt game last night grant Williams absolutely went off or forty three points and eight rebounds Valls came back late to win the game. Where do you see him when it comes June for this draft? Well, one I want to talk about that game. I I mean, he was he was ridiculous. You said at the forty three points. He hit all twenty three of his free throws one of the best college basketball individual perform. Ince's I've seen in person in a long time, and he was dominant especially in the second half. And what's crazy about grant Williams is I don't know what he's listed. But in person, he's even shorter. And he's he's probably legitimately. I'd be curious when he goes the draft calm and what he medicine, but it'll be in that range. I would say six six max. But he is a strong tough, dude. I haven't seen a guy that size that can score and finish through contract. Like he did at Vanderbilt last night. He was ten fifteen from the field. It seemed like he had an one every time. He scored it. And he's just so quick on the block, especially spinning here. Too. Awesome spin move baseline where he dunked it. I think that was on the first half, but it was really impressive. But in terms of his draft stock. I mean, this is a guy that I think is starting to get some play in the late first round. And I think there's a lot of value in his ability to rebound how hard he plays. Obviously, there's some physical limitations in terms of assize true. Just talking about. But this is a dude that it's hard to doubt. Because he has just been so productive as a college basketball player. He's only junior heck even come back. I don't know what else he has to prove at Tennessee. Because I think it's looking like he'll be back to back SEC players of the year player of the year. But I mean, it was the performance was unbelievable in the atmosphere that game last night was was pretty ridiculous. Yeah. Williams had a great game. Obviously Twenty-three from twenty three from the line. That's extremely hard to do especially when you can get out of your star player down the stretch. Was there any of the big takeaways? You had from that game last night..

"And I it's with new guys like they're they're three perimeter players are guys that he took late and two of them have been tremendous. And I'm referring to Xavier Johnson and trae mcgown's those two are averaging thirty. One points a game and have just been awesome for Jeff capable. And the other freshmen I was referring to is is Mr Tony. And he's from Huntsville, Alabama, he's averaging ten points a game. So there's three perimeter players that really have helped that basketball team. And I think Jeff Capel a really good job with them. So far the other guy that I would mention and he's done a fantastic job. I think he's been a really good head coach for a long time. And always was surprised that he didn't get more high major attention is all miss head coach Kermit Davis. He was awesome at middle. Tennessee had them beaten SAT's SEC teams regularly. And now he's in the the the SEC conference. And he's still doing it. You know, he beat Auburn last week. He beat Mississippi State the rival on their thirteen and two they have wins over Baylor beat Vanderbilt three, and this you see conference. I think the job that he has done has been absolutely tremendous andbranch has been awesome for them more than seventeen points a game. But there's also been some freshmen that he's added that have really helped them like Blake Hanson in cagey boffin both of those guys are playing significant minutes for him. But I I would say the Jeff capable and in Kermit Davis would probably do to others that really stick out in my mind that. Like Chris Mack are having success early on. Yeah. I have an I'm certainly excited to see these coaches can get their teams to tournaments. Yeah. I mean, I think that all three of those teams if the season ended now would be in the NCAA tournament fielding Louisville has those two top fifteen wins ole miss with beating Auburn and Mississippi State as to fifteen wins. Pittsburgh now has a top twelve win certainly all right there and in the conversation. So it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. So Conrad I appreciate you taking the time out and jumping on the podcast and help guide this conversation and walking through some of these topics anytime. "I mean, he was four four from the field scored ten points tossed out five assists against North Carolina. But I I think you can make a case that he's been you know, their team MVP twenty three against Pittsburgh twenty against Kentucky. He it's another situation where similar trae. I don't think he's the best player on the team. Jordan war would be their best score. But I do think he is so valuable to that basketball team and keep in mind, they got him late. So if Lula didn't have Christian cutting, there's no there's no no telling where that basketball team would be right now. But I think he's just such a key part to that basketball team and the other kid that I would say is the X factor would be Dwayne Sutton. He he's been tremendous for them as well shooting. The ball rebounding for six five six six kind of combo forward. He is a really good rebounder. But I I would say Christian Cunningham was probably my biggest biggest takeaway looks like Louisville's actually posed to get back into the tournament this year. And we all know Chris Mack is a fantastic head coach you've had on the podcast a couple of times but repeal really expecting him to bring Louisville back this fast. I mean, they're low losses this season event, Tennessee or cat, Indiana Kentucky and kit which hits actually tournament team as well. Was this expected to him this fast? I don't think it was expected out of this fast. No, you know, especially. You mentioned the teams they've lost two which are all pretty good. But they also now on wins over top ten Michigan state in top fifteen team in in North Carolina. So I I mean, I think that that he's done a really good job of molding this basketball team. Now, we'll say that I do think that will will have some talent like Jordan ah war can really score Dwayne Sutton is turned out to be a much better player than maybe he was intimidated after he transferred in from UNC ashville Stevie knock his has always been talented. And if you watch North Carolina game he looked like an NBA player. He's always been talented. But you know, he didn't he barely played at uconn as I two years, and then he sat out so this is really his first full time of game action. We're playing consistently and he's been a little up and down but a big help. But I think the development to of of guys like Ryan McMahon and Melik Williams has looked better at times and turned into a starter. But to answer your question. No. I don't think people expected to be a team that could beat Michigan state and at North Carolina. So I think that's a credit to their coaching staff and the job that they've done. Now, I will say this Chris Mack had a lot of success at savior. And he was the guy that that program targeted to bring in and lead their program. And I I don't think anybody is surprised that Chris Mack would have success a little I think that is an expectation in terms of the success that he's had on the court and off of it because they have the top five recruiting class in the country. I don't think anybody expected this soon. I know I certainly didn't see it happening this student, especially with all the turmoil that has happened at that university over the past couple years. You know, Chris Mack relieves fantastic head coach. I'm glad to see the Louisville cardinals backup in there. You know Conrad. I I think there's probably too that stick out to me one being Pittsburgh who we just talked about that actually beat Louisville last week. And then they turn around and beat a top fifteen team. And Florida state and Jeff capable is done a ridiculous job with this team in a short time. They're twelve and five right now. Keep in mind. This is a team that went oh, Owen eighteen in SCC play last year eight and twenty four so Jeff Capel has done a really good job of kind of flipping the script..

"They don't know how long he's going to be out on obviously, he's a big piece of that puzzle. At fifteen points a game shooting in over forty percent from three and then Collins. They say he's data day. And obviously both of those guys are key pieces to the to the puzzle. But this is a tremendous basketball team, especially when they're healthy. And they just have so many weapons they can beach in so many ways, and it's also Conrad it's pretty impressive the way they're shooting the basketball. I mentioned Langford over forty percent, but caches Winston has developed into a tremendous shoot or forty five point four percent from three and Matt mcquade is shooting the cover off the ball forty seven percent from three. So I just think this team can beat you in a variety ways. They've got a a lead guard. That's that's really gifted. And I haven't even mentioned Nick ward and enslave, your Tillman and Kenny goings who who are getting done inside. So I think this is a good basketball team. And usually you don't want to face the opposition you wanna face Michigan state March. And I I think they're tracking towards being a really good team. Yeah. I I know when it comes March Michigan state stuff case you defensively, but everything I've seen this year. This might be one of their best offense of teams they've had under Tom Izzo. Is there any truth to that? Will there Avidan Eighty-six points a game, which is really impressive. I mean, there stats are are impressive across the board. Number three ingested efficiency on the offensive end in defensive their number nine by Ken palm their affective field goal. Percentages six in the country. They by percentage are the eleventh best shooting team in the country at thirty nine point eight percent. So this is an explosive offensive team. Like, I mentioned I think it starts with caches Winston and not only his ability to score and make shots, but his ability to facilitate industry beat the basketball, which Tom, and I just talked about on the podcast me. And that kid is is so gifted and what he was saying was how unselfish this basketball team is. And he said that's been a big part of their offense of success. Yeah. Certainly now we're going to stay in state for another great team. That's in Michigan. Michigan wolverines they've thorough seventeen to know. And after dukes loss. Last night there presumably the number one team in the country. What makes this Michigan squad elite? Yeah. I mean, they will likely be number one in the country assuming they knock off the badgers on on Saturday. And I think it's twofold. This is a program that's historically been known for their offense and John trimming tremendous offensive coach, and this is a good offensive team their twentieth and Kim palm adjusted efficiency on the offensive end. Probably don't shoot the ball quite like some of his other teams have but still sixty third in the country by percentage, but I think the key is is the tone. They set on the defensive end number three and Kim palm just see defense. And I think it starts with Xavier Simpson and the tone that he sets on that into the floor. He really competes he can defend but he's also a really unselfish player. He creates and distributes for his teammates. And I think he's been really good for this group. And you know, this is the best start in school history. Seventeen to know. And you know, while Michigan state is very good. I think it's fair to say Michigan is the favorite in the big ten right now and to go with Simpson who had just mentioned they've got a guy and Ignace Brad. That's having a tremendous freshman season. I knew that kid was good. And he was ranked as a top forty five fifty player coming out of high school. But I didn't know that he would be able to step in and lead this team in scoring right away over fifteen points a game shooting thirty nine percent from three he's been a -ffective inefficient across the board. And then you throw in the the other shooters and Jordan pool and is as livers who are both shooting it above forty five percent. This is a really good basketball team that can hurt you in a variety of ways. And the other thing Conrad's, they don't hurt themselves..

"He's feeling better. When he gets out of the boot, we'll have a better idea. And that's what hopefully by the end of this week will do and and boy if I if I had a timetable that I knew how to survive this long this long, or whatever it'd be a little easier. It's not been that way. And even with arns. It's kinda I don't believe you'll play against Nebraska, but it is data day. And does that mean a play in the next game? I mean, hopefully, but he hasn't practiced or done anything. Yet. That's the strangeness of the two injuries. No question. You playing such a tough league. How do you assess the the league this year you have been in this league thirty some years 'cause one of my GPA days here on up, and it sounds like a lot of time. But you know, twenty four is the head coach. And I haven't seen the league any better top to bottom. Now, I've seen the top a little better. And I've seen the bottom, of course, a lot worse. But you know, when you look at our bottom teams right now on paper, even Illinois or Penn State. I mean, they've got some talent and north western know, things very good team. They've had an injury or so too. But those are the teams at the bottom, and I think they're all well coached and tough teams. But the middle is where a real strength is. You know, Michigan's really good, and I think we're pretty good. But the middle is where the strength is. Because I was a game that we. We beat them here. Pretty good. And since then they've been on a tear. I think Minnesota's much better. I think Purdue got one of the best players in the whole country Indiana's very, so it'll how states very solid Maryland. I think is playing some of their best basketball. So yeah, I think the league is deserving of the, you know, ten teams they're talking about you know, it's all going to play out. But I do think it's if not the strongest league in the country one hour, but I I think what makes it the strongest too is every time you go on the road in the big ten you're playing in front of a packed house. And right. That's not always that way and other conferences. So the crowds the experience, and I think there's a lot of great coaches in our league ring for sure I wanted to ask you about Jaren Jackson. He's seven such tremendous first year in the NBA. Obviously, we knew he was good. Did you think that he would be able to have this type of impact this early in the league? You know, let me say, yes. And I'll tell you. A why I think his growth from his junior year? Those senior was good. I really did think he grew a lot last year. You know, he was in trouble a lot and coach says once in a while he's still in followed trouble. But very intelligent. But I think the biggest thing he did is he bought into the weightlifting the gaining the weight he went from two twenty one when he came here to to forty five when he left, and that is a big change for a guy who did it the right way worked at he works on his game. He's an intelligent player. He's a guy that really enjoys the game, you know, and you know, with his father playing in the league, he's still young. But I really did think he'd have a chance to have an impact. Now is good as he's having some of these games. Probably not. But for a guy who doesn't just rely on his offense. Like most guys at that level. He plays defense. He still blocking shots. It's getting better handling the ball. I said it when they were dry. And I'll say it again. I think he's gonna end up the most productive guy. Now, I know Danzig has been really good too. But and there's other good players. But I think five years down the road. We're going to be looking at Jaren Jackson is the diamond in that draft class you able to keep up with him a lot..

"But even when I had the miles in Jared, the star players, I don't know if it was in the water here what very fair hearing group. And that's one thing. I looked at the last couple of summers we spent a lot of time in the summer just kinda not running much but moving the ball moving the ball. You know, I get to see dream on enough. And we're not the warriors put the concepts, and we don't have the players put the concept of keeping that ball moving. Not not hold onto it. And let it hatch not over dribbling it, you know, I tried to steal some things from them which I still feel their players. You know, three of your top four scores or sheeting above forty percent from three two of them Winston and mcquaid better than forty five percent. How much of an emphasis do you put on shooting when you recruiting these guys and in skill development and offseason? I think we mourn skill development. I mean, you wanna recruit shooters, but it's so different now with a you Bo what is this shooter? You know, everything's kind of ticket to the whole dunk it and kind of that fast pace, which I liked to. But I think you know, some guys have developed into shooters. I, you know, I didn't think caches is a great shooter coming out of high school, and he's really developed into one. I didn't think you know, when we recruited Josh length for miles bridges. I didn't think was a great shooter. So I get my staff credit. I think some of it's been development. I think some of it's been the system, and I think some of it's been the work ethic of those players coming out on their own when we're not allowed to be with them. You mentioned some of the guys from last year's team. What's the difference between coach? This year's group compared to last year's. I mean, you guys lost some really talented kids. But this year's group you can make a case has been maybe more productive in in so steady. Well, I I am proud that. We've been really good defensively. And I thought we'd be down because Jaren is such good shop locker miles was a pretty good defender. Tom was a great defender. But, you know, Evan as you know, we went through a lot up here last year with the Nassar stuff, and I I not to use an excuse or anything else. But I think from January twentieth on, you know, I it's hard to relate the two teams because not only the coaching staff, but the players there was a lot of things that were distracting, and I think that was a very good team last year. And when people say that to me, I say, well, maybe we underachieve not getting we went thirty games. But you know, by the end of the year this team at was worn out for other reasons. And so. Hard to compare. But I think what this team does is. It took the fact that we had to guard last year. I think we're gonna talk ten and defensive stats to you know, we're one of the better rebounding team. So we do have an inside outside threat. I think what's happened is Kenny goings has become a defender and rebounder at six seven athletic. He can guard a lot of different people. I think Nick Worden's Xavier Tillman both lost another fifteen pounds. And so the two seventy five to eighty that they came in on their their to forty and and that's made a difference. And I think we stole something. I mean miles in Jaren with the most unselfish unpretentious superstars, you know lottery. Picks that I've ever coached here. And and I think the humility of those guys was so good that it rubbed off on these guys..

"Favorite podcast out hit. Subscribe button for me leave a rating leave a review, you can also shoot me a note over on Twitter or Instagram. The handle is at Evan Daniels. Now, let's jump to that conversation will Michigan state head coach Tom Izzo. It's time to go. With Evan Daniels. Send it in big fella now. Let's welcome in Michigan state head basketball coach Tom Izzo to the sidelines podcast coach how you doing good Evan. How are you? I am doing well exciting time of year right in the heart of the season. And your team is sitting at fifteen in to one ten in a row including Sunday at Penn State with to your guys not available. You guys seem to be in quite the groove. Right now. You know, having we're playing good. You know, I didn't think we put his good on Sunday. But you know, we really miss Lankford. I mean, it was you know, our June seventeenth the game. These probably my best defensive guard in arns came in at the similar position. And so we're missing two guys to same position. And all of a sudden you bring in to freshman, and you know, it's a little different. You know, the experiences what we have going for us this year. I was in the gated of little bit Sunday. And maybe for the next couple games as arns is day to day. And Josh is probably you know, we should know more within the next week. Now cast Winston has been terrific for you this year over seventeen points a game seven point, four assists. He shooting over forty five percent from three his scoring numbers or particularly up this year. Is that something that you guys asked of him with Jared and miles gone? They carried scoring load. Did you guys ask him to score? Yeah. Even ask them to coach the team, you know, one of those guys that can do multidimensional things. And you know, what he really needed to do is improve his defense. And he's done that som-. I think he's pushing the ball lot better those are two areas that we really wanted him to improve on, you know, he is a very good score. But he's got some big assist game. In fact, our sister the season are off the charts. I think you know, we've been pretty consistent for the last three four five years, but this year were hitting a real high with number of a cyst per basket. I think the balls been moving really well it did last year. But it's even better this year and cash says a lot to do with that. That's one thing. I wanted to ask you about. Because offensively you guys have been out st-. Banding number four and Kim palm adjusted offense efficiency number eleven in the country in three point shooting percentage. Eighty six points game. What makes you all so dangerous on that end? I think cash is big part because he gets the ball to the right guys. But you don't wanna head length or too Neri's averaging seventeen game. We have Nick were do shooting a high percentage. And I think my other big improved player inside is spend save your Tillman mcquaid is starting to really shoot the ball. Like he was supposed to be fours injury a year and a half ago. So I think that helps I think we're running. So we're getting some open looks are sister three very very unselfish team last three or four years. It's been that way this year, it's kind of taken a new high. This might be a weird question coach, but how do you develop that with a group of guys, especially a young group of guys that, you know, in a lot of ways are used to and, you know, high school in you and kind of going and getting their own how do you develop that type of chemistry and that type of unselfishness among a group very fortunate last four five years. As you know, when I had Valentine as a point guard, he was very very unselfish kid at tom-tom a little bit. And then, of course, caches has been off the charts with it..

"Camps are very difficult to evaluate players and the insead ablaze grand idea is to have four sites with two camps at each site of three hundred players eat so twenty four hundred players most of these guys ever played. I'm sure never played with each other before lack familiarity in college coaches are going to have to go into these environments and try to evaluate kids. I think it's an awful idea and every college coats, I've talked to has said, it's an awful idea actually talked to twenty five more than twenty five college coaches, and nobody was for this. The high school weekends is kind of mind boggling because one the high school coaches didn't want this to schools like I g academy Oak Hill academy. Paul the six these are schools with a number of all three of those have eight or more division one players on their teams. They're not even going to be allowed to participate. Paul the six because of the national federation. I am in oak kill because they don't have their teams assembled in the summer their kids. Go home for the summer. So there's just so many holes with this new revamped recruiting schedule, and you can check out my story over and twenty four seven sports where I went into a little more detailed, and and had some comments and stuff from high school coaches, but the reaction across the board has been pretty negative about the revamped recruiting schedule. And hopefully, it's something that looks at because the way things set up before we're pretty good. I'm not saying that there shouldn't or couldn't be some changes. And I'm good with changes. But it needs to be changed for the betterment not change for the sake of change in. And I think that's kind of what these changes were down for all involved isn't going to be a wind situation. So I wonder why the NC double A went through with this. But I guess when it comes to AA there's always questioned what they're doing. Why they're doing it to that? Right. I think part of it too is the commission Connolly's rice. I could be wrong. But I go to a lot of you and high school, Vince, I've never seen her at one. I don't know that she has that much of a feel on the recruiting schedule or or a knowledge base of a U basketball. I just think it's unfortunate because I don't think that that this can't ideas. Great one. I think twenty four hundred kids camps of three hundred each really going to be hard for college coaches to sift through in the high school weekends with a lot of kids not even being able to participate. It just doesn't add up. And hopefully that they'll revisit this that you'd probably too busy interviewing for the Browns. Head coach position. Probably probably got swept under the rug a little bit. That's probably why there's the issues, but if everyone out there wasn't caught up on college basketball to this point. Now, they are as I appreciate it. "Twenty four points a game six point eight rebounds a game three point eight assists at the beginning of season. I thought he was shooting the ball. Pretty well percentages tailed a little I expect to pick back up. But I just think the kid is so skilled and go really score the basketball. He can do it in a variety of ways. I think he's a competitor. And Conrad I think he's a two way player. I think this guy really compete. On defense, and he's going to be able to defend his position pretty well at the MBA level right now, I'm going RJ Barrett. But that gap is certainly closing. And you could certainly make a case Zion. Should be number one. Yeah. I mean, I don't remember a time ever where there's been two freshman on the same team to perform like this. But do you think though with Diane getting into top five top three really, do you think GM's are going to be worried about his lack of shooting, Allah, Ben Simmons, how he can do a lot of things for you except score. The basketball will always going to be concerned, especially in this day and age where shooting is so valuable and so important, you know, it's really a shot makers game. I think that guys are going to really value the athleticism, obviously, the energy he plays with his ability to rebound versatility. You know, he's a tremendous passer. But the shooting is a concern. And it's an area that he's going to have to develop and get better. You know, he can't shoot in the teens. From three point line. He's going to have to get it better than that. It's been a little progress. But but not much to date you hope in the off season when he can really focus and spend a lot of time working on his jump shot that he improves. But yeah, I mean, I think that's an easy call. That's that's going to be a concern. When it comes draft time is shooting for sure. If Ben Simmons is his comparible that I'm sure any Jim in the league will take him. But at the same time sixteen percent from three pointers seventy percent from the line now going back to him and orange as well. They're both kind Twitter's with positions they play where do you see them a row positions? You see them playing at the next level. I don't think RJ's between at all. I think he's a straight to guard in the NBA. I think you can guard that spot, and I think he certainly is complained on offense with that skill set. And. His improving ability to to score the basketball in a variety of ways. So I think he's a straight to guard Zion. I think probably is going to be best used it as a as a face up four. I don't I don't necessarily love the Ben Simmons comparison Conrad. I'll be honest with you. I don't really think that there is a comparison for him. I think he's that unique. I think he's unlike a player that we've seen before. And I've seen a lot of people try to throw NBA guys at him like Julius Randle. And I've heard the Ben Simmons and a couple of others. I just think he's so unique. He does this whole totally different. I I've never seen a player like him since I've been doing this. Vertically might be the best athlete that I've scouted. He's just so freakish and explosive, but he's unique in honestly, I don't say I missed on Ben Simmons with Ben Simmons has been a lot better than I thought he would be and he was similar in a sense that he was so unique he was different than players..

"I'm going to bring on Fox Sports producer Conrad company to help me guide a conversation. We're going to talk midseason college basketball. I'm gonna give some final four picks midseason all Americans will look back and who the preseason all Americans weren't compare. We'll talk about who can knock off Duke. We'll go in depth about RJ Burton Zion. Williamson. Plus, we'll talk about it improved Kentucky squad before I get to that conversation with Conrad. I wanna make sure that you were supporting and subscribe to the sidelines podcast the best way to do that is to go over to apple podcasts. And or your favorite podcast that hits. Subscribe button for me, leave a rating leave a review, those things are very helpful. You can also shoot me a note over on Twitter Instagram, the handle is at Evan Daniels. Would love to know what you think about the podcast further. Do let's jump to that conversation with Conrad company. It's time to go Daniels. Send it in big fella now, let's bring in Fox Sports, colleague, and producer and friend Conrad company to the sidelines. Evan Daniels podcast, and I had Conrad on just before the start of the season to really break down the college basketball season and go through some preseason picks while I wanted to bring him back on now that we're at the midway point college. Football's ending NFL is is heading into the playoffs. And I think there's going to be a focus more on college basketball from people around the country. So I to bring in Conrad's to kind of help guide this conversation. Connor what's up, man? Any man I was going happy new year. How are you doing great had a? A great New Year's Eve a pretty busy December a lot of traveling. What about you, man? I had another great new year in LA as well. It's quite magical place out here. But more importantly college basketball, actually starting to become relevant again. Now that it's not the first half of the year. But this is usually when people start to nimh like you alluded to earlier we're gonna start right off with with what people wanna hear about your preseason. All american. Lists was Carson Edwards. Luke maye Kayla. Martin did your loss in an RJ Barrett. How're you doing at the midway point about that list? I feel pretty good about it. There's really only two guys out. It would have changed. And I spent a little time coming up with what my midseason list would look like in keeping RJ Barrett. Carson edwards. I think he's done a enough to be on this list. Averaging nearly twenty six points a game. Forty four percent from the field and forty percent from three maybe means as much his team as anybody in the country. Deedrick loss. And I think he's been absolutely tremendous nearly twenty points over ten rebounds a game. So those three that I had on my preseason list. I think they're on the midseason list to the differences. I think Marcus Howard is a guy that needs to be considered. Amid season all American twenty five points a game twice. He's gone for forty five points, forty nine of one hundred thirteen from three. This is a kid that just knows how to score the basketball and he's doing it at a pretty ridiculous rate at Marquette, six straight games over twenty points. So added him in the list, and then I think you have to go with Zion Williamson, he's really been the talk of college basketball is having a tremendous freshman campaign for for Duke, nearly twenty points a game nine point four rebounds, a game, everybody sees the dunks in the highlight reels. But this kid has been impressive across the board. If I would extend this list of six or had a six-man probably go with Gonzaga's Rui Hasha Moore. I think he's been obeyed your bright spot for Gonzaga having a tremendous season. So I think I did pretty good in the preseason. But I think Marcus Howard and enzyme Williamson have to be on this list. No, absolutely market. Our people out there of not watching the key play basketball. And yet I knew I don't know how you feel about them. But when I watch him I kind of watch a little bit of trae young just how he puts the ball up. How he moves around. He's a smaller Garbutt man ESO. Let's move onto our Jade's. I on to be people all along RJ bear, it's going to be the number one pick..
