Justifying Pandemic Weight Gain Is Sneaky...Is It Poison Punch?

"I have been seeing this left. And right and also like things that people have been like sending me and all of that kind of stuff. And i feel like i've been seeing it like plastered everywhere like like weight. Gain is totally fine. You were like surviving a pandemic. And i think the reason that this to me feel so poisoned punchy is that not like it's rationalizing or like justifying weight gain right like it's okay like like what if the sentence ended there like it's okay to gain weight period. Yeah i get that. Okay i get that and i think i think like the the reason that we're seeing more and more is like particularly i see like the world is opening up right like summer's here. People are doing more things. Maybe wearing clothes. Like all of those types of things. And i think it was created or like the people who are perpetuating messages. It's like done with the best best of intentions right like it's make people feel comfortable safe like reassurance like all of those types of things but i think like i one of the reasons i wanted to talk about this like it's an example of messaging. That seems normal and and maybe even helpful but there's a lot of a lot of punch punch to it. Let's unpack let us unpack. Well yeah so. I thought it might be interesting to talk about why this messaging feels like punch so like we said like the first thing is like this justification of weight loss right. It's like he needing a reason essentially to like have gained weight so like weight gain is acceptable. If there's an obvious or concrete reason for it i think the first point that makes it punchy kinda like pregnancy. yeah exactly it's like. Oh yeah yeah like. Of course of course gain is like emir care like a human and then there is that emily. But then you have to bounce back pretty quickly because you can't stay a troll. Yes and i feel like i see that. See that so many places to write like people like. Yeah i've gained weight. 'cause i'm taking this medication or like there's just so much there's always trying to like pinpoint a reason. Why when really it's like. Life is meant to ebb and flow. Our bodies are meant to you. Evan flow and change with seasons of life with our life with all the things and so. Thirty six percent from three point range and sixteen games at that g. league ignite level. He does have you know yes. What more can i tell you for. Most people listening there is the allure somewhat of the unknown here. I mean only the diehard diehard nba draft have been keeping consistent tabs on jalen green whereas if he had gone to college he would quite clearly be known commodity. He would most certainly play for bruce. Pearl at auburn. Had onto college. And that would. Certainly things would have gone different. I think for the tigers last season if that had been the case green himself by the way tweeted back in may he tweeted and then subsequently deleted. Because this isn't exactly the greatest endorsement for the daily. He said i know for a fact. If i would have gone to college it would have been a different talk about. Who's going number one. He might well be right. But that's the that's the that's the status of the g. league ignite program at this point and that's to be expected by the way. But hey listen you're not gonna go number one because you didn't go to college but he got paid five hundred thousand dollars and you're going to go second third or fourth and i think that's a trade off the quite clearly jalen is comfortable with

So that would be their active treatment essence and then they're active botanical serum and then. After thirty days. I would report back on. What if anything had happened now. We're not doing this in conjunction with them. They don't know they don't know about this. I feel like. I've pitched something like this to myself before but i've never followed through but evan i i have right. I love the idea of pitching something to yourself for kate. Here's an idea. But i think i've even said this on this here podcast but like i was just looking at the products. You know. it's to products. So i was like i could really. I could scale down to a cleanser. This active botanical Excuse me there. And their serum and just see what that's like to live thirty days with like three steps and then of course sunscreen with the caveat that i am probably going to want to exfoliating once a week and also have an extra moisturizer on hand in case i feel like the serum is not enough so i have embarked on this journey today dory And i started this morning. A and i'll everything's changed. My face is completely different. Wow i'm a new one. No everything is citing my face. My skin feels amazing. I'm probably going to keep a couple cleansers on hand to depending on how my skin feeling. But i i was really thinking like i m fifty out. My medicine cabinet my overflowing with products. Look a blessing from a blessing from doing the show. But so yeah. So i was gonna i was gonna give that a go They're vintner's daughter. Who’s the Preferred Match-up for Boston in the First Round of the Playoffs?

"What team is a better matchup for the Bruins. Maybe in terms of itself cuz I mean, let's be, let's be candid. You know, lead into this at either match is going to be tough, right? Either one of these ones, you're like, all right? Well, that's what it is, right. Is it thing though? Like, so I feel like the looming thing with capitals is that, you know, any team is going to play them is going to give the shit kicked out of them. But yes, you know, they're finishing their big team. They've got Tom Wilson, they've got Hathaway, they've got Dylan Char, all these, all these big guys, but I think you look at how you best exploit a team like that. It's easier than 14. Like the Bruins, what their strengths to land punches against a team like the capitals on the ice in terms of you know, the X's and O's and it is the Penguins. Now, Penguins may not be nearly as big but you look at just the way the Capitals defense is, you look at how Scholl they are on defense, how the Bruins right now especially up front, all of a sudden have all this speed in their line-up. I mean they've God Top six is the top six even though Richie Crowley coiler the physical track and wine, those guys can move, you know, really Sean Crowley is, you know, a very good skater and events or fourth line. Now. It might depend on the match of, you know, do you want to roll out debrusk and kacchan? The 4th Line? Or is that one we go with Lazar with Frederick and Wagner so that, that can change a little bit in terms of the max but you look at the, the, the defense of the capitals have. I mean, the Bruins average close to three, three point six goals per game, against the capitals. The only team that scored more goals against against Atlantic division. Foes our East Division, foes was the same Choice which makes sense, not surprising, but the fact that, yeah, the fact that, you know, Washington who has a slow defense who do not really have to lead goalies in that, which, I mean, I think the biggest equalizer for how much the cap wasn't given the Bruins trouble of these has been because of brain. Hopefully now you've got vanicek and samsonov two guys who don't really ski all that money. Trade. I just look at the matchups and what the Bruins are going to go up against. Yeah, you're going to get knocked around quite a bit but it's

Still dragged along, whoever whatever Wing is he's got, but you have Charlie Coyle. Who's getting paid like a top-six guy, would you expect him to make that jump up? You expect Jackson eager to really crack through and, you know, people who thought he was going to be up like The Calder or what-have-you or at the very least, be a guy that was going to flash a lot of practice that you could see him getting a full-time job. Next year, obviously that has not panned out either a guide for both coil and Sydney, so I think you look at this team and it's subject. Forecast years from now, what to expect from his team. But you look at the way they're playing right now and the piece that they have in place. It's not out of their own possibility to think that if you co-sign crazy and and Hall again and get a lot of these pieces back, you could run it back with the same group for another year or, or to even and still be a pretty viable Contender just the way they're playing off. So I think that's the only option that brings really have at this point is bringing back David krejci. Now granted

"Stumps were never super high on Taylor home after a few years in the league which is a viewer Observer thought was crazy but eventually you can't you just can't deny the fact. Again you can disagree with with teams and GM's not thinking that highly of Taylor Hall, but the proof is in the pudding every time he gets moved. So he gets moved for Adam Larson and that's a terrible trade anyway. But but yep. And so everyone's like wow, he got moved for that. Little, when he gets moved to Arizona, it's like, wow, was I forget was, was there not a like, he was a conditional first-round pick up, right? I believe it was right, but so you you're thinking, okay, it's going to be a ton of stuff and it really wasn't a huge huge deal. Then he becomes a free agent and obviously it's in the pandemic and he signs a 1.8 million dollar deal with the Sabres and I you I'm sure everybody is like Bruins what are you doing site? He's one year and eight million dollars to play for the freaking Sabres. Top that everybody should be trying to top it but they weren't then he gets moved at this deadline and Elliott Friedman comes out right after and he said he said since that Paul had to do with it with wanting to go to the Bruins and having to know move, but he's like the interest in Taylor Hall. Just wasn't as high as people thought it was going to be. Again you can disagree with them. But every time he moves, we all say, why is everyone so stupid? Why is that one? And I am also optimistic like Evan said, the absence of Robert Williams has proven to be dead And even bigger issue than I think anyone had could have predicted just in the fact of what he was doing with that starting unit on offense, he was moving the ball and also not allow defense has to pack the paint because you have to draw Robert out of the paint or else you at least have to account for him cuz he will just come in behind you and dunk on your face. So for that it opens up a lot of things offensively and then defensively just to have a guy who can provide that kind of Rim protection and that kind of communication we hear from the assistant coaches. Just how much Rob has improved in communication job defensively. And so I do think that, that is a huge thing that is missing for this team right now. And then you add in the fact that yes, Evan Fournier is coming off a battle with covideo said, he didn't feel well for a 4 to 5 days and still trying to work his way back. I think there are areas to look to for positivity, but I agree with Evan that it's in this season. The fact that they can be so dead. And hide and look like two completely different teams. It's just frustrating and it and it's frustrating because of the expectations that are on this group and regardless of how many games they lose and how fast they come out over and over again, those expectations remain,

Let's welcome back to the podcast a colleague over f s one and hall of fame broadcaster Bill Raftery wrath. How are you? Trying to keep up with you as far but shut. Oh, I think you're doing a pretty decent job of that. I know you're you'll be at the big east tournament coming up by. No, you're calling game to think Wednesday and Thursday. It's been kind of wild year in the league. What's kind of your been your biggest takeaway from watching so much big east ball this year and kinda heading into the tournament is don't shot? Basically, it seems like actually with Marquette struggling coming down the stretch and Villanova having pumps in the road to. I think it just tells you how the field is pretty even which should make for wild couple of days. No one's out of the mix in terms of potential beating do you know over the years? Always might say, hey, the Paul struggling, you know, jump on them here. You'll be okay. But that they proven that you know, a tough out even in losses. So there's a lot of respect amongst for all programs Xavier's on a run. Now was at six or eight games in a row from not mistaken. You know, the other one, you know, everybody keeps saying I don't wanna play Saint John's in the garden and they've been struggling coming down the stretch. So I just think it's a, you know, a bunch of teams that are extremely competitive young. You don't know who's going to show up. You know, you can go down the line with like a crate Mincy if you can't get eighty ninety points. You can't play with Creighton. Right. So I mean, this is just a an interesting each club. Does something you know, that's part of their personnel. You know, Butler push it and then run the whole clock and make you be patient providence has been up and down because they're young. But Georgetown has a great win the other night. Some I think Georgetown, Seton Hall of sort of played themselves. I think Seton Hall is out of the conversation. I'm guessing they're in and I think Georgetown back in the conversation. So yeah, it's rigging. I think a lot half. It depends on what happens this Wednesday and Thursday for a couple of teams, and they get the Friday, you know..

The handle is at Evan Daniels. It's time to go with. Evan daniels. Send it in big fella now want to bring in colleague over at Fox Sports Conrad company till guide this conversation Conrad. How argument I'm pins has welcome to our side of the hood misery first class over here took first class from what can note, Tennessee, all the way to LA this morning. Yes. I am. Glad to be in LA. I was in winter weather last week in Springfield mass. How about this? It was negative three degrees where I was on Monday. Now, I'm in sunny, LA, seventy degrees. I'm going to hang out on Manhattan beach later today. I'm fired up to be here. Amen. I grew up in that stuff. And I'm just happy to be here as well. Now you actually at this Tennessee Vanderbilt game last night grant Williams absolutely went off or forty three points and eight rebounds Valls came back late to win the game. Where do you see him when it comes June for this draft? Well, one I want to talk about that game. I I mean, he was he was ridiculous. You said at the forty three points. He hit all twenty three of his free throws one of the best college basketball individual perform. Ince's I've seen in person in a long time, and he was dominant especially in the second half. And what's crazy about grant Williams is I don't know what he's listed. But in person, he's even shorter. And he's he's probably legitimately. I'd be curious when he goes the draft calm and what he medicine, but it'll be in that range. I would say six six max. But he is a strong tough, dude. I haven't seen a guy that size that can score and finish through contract. Like he did at Vanderbilt last night. He was ten fifteen from the field. It seemed like he had an one every time. He scored it. And he's just so quick on the block, especially spinning here. Too. Awesome spin move baseline where he dunked it. I think that was on the first half, but it was really impressive. But in terms of his draft stock. I mean, this is a guy that I think is starting to get some play in the late first round. And I think there's a lot of value in his ability to rebound how hard he plays. Obviously, there's some physical limitations in terms of assize true. Just talking about. But this is a dude that it's hard to doubt. Because he has just been so productive as a college basketball player. He's only junior heck even come back. I don't know what else he has to prove at Tennessee. Because I think it's looking like he'll be back to back SEC players of the year player of the year. But I mean, it was the performance was unbelievable in the atmosphere that game last night was was pretty ridiculous. Yeah. Williams had a great game. Obviously Twenty-three from twenty three from the line. That's extremely hard to do especially when you can get out of your star player down the stretch. Was there any of the big takeaways? You had from that game last night..

"Fame coaches, national champions lottery picks the best binds in basketball, welcome to the sidelines with Evan Daniels. Welcome back to the sidelines podcast. I'm your host Evan Daniels. College basketball insider f s one as well as the director of basketball recruiting at twenty four seven sports. Today's episode is the eight episode and we're going to do a draft special. I'm gonna bring on a colleague from twenty four seven sports onto the podcast, Josh Gershon, and we did a deep dive into really the top ten prospects, or we deem as a top ten prospects in next year's NBA draft. We did a breakdown of RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson and examined them pretty closely as well as talked about nausea little Romeo Lang for bowl bowl and a handful of other guys you wanna stick around for that conversation before we get to make sure that you were subscribed and supporting the sidelines podcast the best way to do that as shoot over to apple podcasts, and or your favorite podcast. The handle is at Evan Daniels with love to know, what you think about the podcast without further ado, let's jump to that conversation in NBA breakdown with Josh Gershon. It's time to go. Daniels. Send it in big fella now. Let's welcome in close friend and colleague from twenty four seven sports Josh Gershon to the sidelines with Evan Daniels podcast. Josh, how are you doing great? Thanks for having me as always. Of course, let's jump right in this podcast is going to take a deep dive into really the top ten picks who were projecting the top ten picks in next year's NBA draft. And this is really a down group when you look at this crop as a whole there's not a lot of depth in this draft class at least at this stage and from talking to NBA executives, it seems like the lists after ten eleven twelve spots really, very what your take when you look at the prospects in this upcoming draft. I think this is looking like the draft. We expected it to be entering college basketball season or chillingly. There haven't been the amount of stock raisers to point where you could say there guys that are entering the top five discussion that weren't. Necessarily their accused ago. There's definitely been players that improved their stock to to lottery range, but the classes a whole is not even close compared to two thousand eighteen and of course, that's what we were expecting heading into this year for sure, and I do think there was a gun that was starting to inch his way up to potential maybe five pick status that was Darius garland from Vanderbilt. And then he has a knee injury that sent to the sideline for the rest of the season. And unfortunately for him, I think probably stunts where he could possibly go on because I think he's the best point guard prospect, which obviously there's value there because of change of pace and speed and all that. But when you're injured guys can't see you play only play four or five games during a season. It doesn't benefit you, obviously. I completely agree with what you said the crop is down. And there's been a couple of guys that have kind of moved their way up the list like a Laghouat Dort from Arizona state and Keizo Kepala from Stanford. You know, I think that they're kind of flirting in that lottery range, but overall the. Is just really lacking depth. And I even think it's slacking starpower. Yeah. For sure did is probably a little bit of separation at the top with the top two picks and RJ Barrett. John Williamson right now, I think they've probably separated themselves at this stage of the season behind the next group..

Let's welcome in Villanova head basketball coach Jay right to the sidelines. Evan Daniels podcast coach, welcome back. How are things evidently, buddy? I'm doing really well, partly because it's basketball season. My favorite time of the year hidden high school events in college of it's a lot going on. It is a good time of year. Man. I think all of us in the basketball world wants Octo starts into our rhythm of practices and get ready old right in the world. We're very comfortable. It's kind of crazy how quickly the off-season goes. How much time did you have to really enjoy the title run this time a little bit more time. Evan after sixteen. It was such a whirlwind. It was just a I think it was a unique common Philadelphia. You know, Philadelphia had won a championship in a long time. And everybody was really excited. It was our first time billing first time, but our our first time being Villanova. We didn't really know. How to handle anything, and we accepted every offer did everything they're supposed to do. We learned. There's a a great line to be used when you went to national championship that. Well, that's what the national champions did last year. So they came. So you're supposed to call. You know, then we we had to team go on a trip to Spain. We had previously scheduled in August. So I felt like that summer and fall after sixteen we do good enough job of resting our guys. I thought in seventeen we went into that tournament and seventeen we were we were a number one seat. I can't remember for the number one. See, but we were a number one seed and felt I we played mount Saint Mary in the first round. And I could see right. What I see it. We were just mentally drained. And then we pay great Wisconsin team to second round. And they got us, and they were great, and they're very experienced team. I also think that part of it was we were mentally fatigued. Right. So this. This year. We did a great job of of really cutting down. What we did. And we did get to enjoy it and rest. Yeah. It makes sense. You know, you're becoming a regular at this to the last three years won the national championship. Maybe this is a weird question to you. What's the most gratifying thing about winning that NCAA tournament? It's really strange. I it doesn't even seem like we did it to me. You know? I'm so engrossed in this season right now these guys right? I guess to answer your question fairly it would be to see the players on that team reach their individual potential and also to see a group reach its individual potential. You just feel so good for them watching them. Do it you know and accomplish it because you know, they trusted you and they worked hard, and they listened, and you know, it paid off for them. Right. As you, and I both know in in this world of sports, you can do all. The right thing. And it still doesn't guarantee you the success of championship or even individuals success. You know, sometimes things don't go your way. So it's really gratifying when you see guys listen and try to do the right things. And then it pays off for them. Of course, shortly after winning the championship you had an opportunity to meet with the pope. How was that? That was Beijing that that was definitely a highlight of my life..

Send it in big fella now. Let's welcome in Marquette head coach Steve Ojha hausky to the sidelines podcast making his second appearance on the show coach, how are you? Thanks, grab me. I'm glad I did. Well enough on the go round. It'd be invited back. I Free State that my man, of course, you are a second appearance. How is the off season for you? And I have to see your two games in. But how is off season? All season was good as you know. There's not really ever an all using you're always going south into try to grow and improve your program. But I think our guys got better programs moving in the right direction and and were excited that the season is finally here. Yeah. You're gearing up for your fifth season at Marquette. I can't believe it's actually been that long. What's been your favorite moment? Running that program so far. Well, I think the growth of the program, and you know, I feel so fortunate to be around unbelievable people on a daily basis, whether it's my staff the Marquette community, and then most importantly, my players, we have great kids. I mean, they make me proud with the way they handle themselves in the classroom off the court. And I think we have a chance to be a really good team this year. So that growth in that process. You know has has had some ups and downs. But through it all we're out of point now where I feel really good about our program and the health of it all. What about from your basketball career in general you played at Duke for four seasons? You coach there for fifteen years you've been at Marquette starting on your fifth year as mentioned in your eyes. What's the accomplishment that you're most proud of when it comes to basketball? Evan basketball has been so good to me. And you know, I'm a true believer that the ball is magic in it. And the most magical thing that game basketball has done for me allowed me could build and maintain some incredibly special relationships was that's the people who've coached me over the years or the guys that I played with or now the guys that I coached the ball has brought some of the best people in the world into my life. And that's the thing I'm most thankful for obviously a lot of good memories from basketball standpoint. Whether it's being a part of national championships or gold, medals, etc. But you know, now as I look back the greatest thing that the game is giving me is the relationships that I've been able to develop you mentioned relationships, and obviously you've been around some pretty impressive basketball minds who who do you turn to when you need advice or or you're looking for.

Five-time NBA all star curious from your standpoint, would you consider your greatest basketball achievement to this point things out? Evan on my Olympic experiences. Nineteen Eighty-four as a college player played on a great Olympic team coached by Bobby Knight. And was fortunate enough to play on the nineteen Ninety-two dream team. Those are the two two favorite experiences in basketball because of superseded, you know, college MBA's as a unique experience to represent your country. It's time to go with Evan Daniels, send it in big fella, Josh, how you doing buddy doing a lot better until you call the Gershon. That sounds about right now. You and I were out in Colorado Springs this past weekend in, got to see quite a bit action and really, Josh. This was the first time that USA basketball held at camp with the collaboration of the MBA the MVP the NC double a. they brought in a lot more kids. In fact, there were eighty eight players, eight of the nation's best players in Colorado Springs broken down from each class, freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior. There were twenty four seniors, but the most were freshmen. There was over thirty two thousand twenty two prospects gearing up for next year's you sixteen teams. We're getting a look at those guys, but what did you think of the new format? What do you think of what USA basketball, the NBA and the instability doing an in bringing all these people together to really have not only bigger camp but also help provide the kids with more information. I think, outstanding. I've always felt that USA basketball is the best valuation settings. And definitely one of the best settings for kids come in and get. High level coaching, learn more play the right way. Not to say that every other camp is like that, but some are better than others. USA basketball in my mind been the gold standard. As far as that goes in terms of the new format, the amount of kids that were there. I think it was really helpful for us, but more importantly for them to bring all these kids who usually have to develop into the league prospects before they're part of the USA basketball system. I think it's going to be really beneficial for those kids out -ment moving forward. Yeah, I completely agree. I think the more players that you can get involved in the program, not only from a basketball playing standpoint, but they're doing life skills with the kids or bringing in speakers. I know that the NCAA talked to parents and they're really trying to educate everyone involved. And I think also Josh and I think this is something that we're gonna see more down the road with the NBA's involvement. And I, I really do think all of this is because of actually that rule where kids can go straight out of high school is going to change, and they're going to be able to go straight from high school to the NBA. It wouldn't surprise me if. NBA scouts are in that Jim sooner than later, which I think can only help both sides. It helps the NBA scouts in terms of getting evaluations and gaining information. I think it helps kids in terms of getting seen now. Obviously, we're not there yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if that goes that route down the road. Yeah, absolutely. Look, NBA teams. These are players at least. Let's say this freshman class are going to be players that are going to be dropped eligible right out of high school..
