So that was I assume Evan and DWI and maybe other guests guys definitely check that out Evan anything that you want to plug as well. No I just wanted to share you might have shared it already the CBS tweet about the first-ever fifteen plus points in the fourth quarter thing d'italia down. Is there some? New reckless last week. Yeah last week I left with a nice little historic record. So the Falcons are the first team ever to lose back to back games despite leading by fifteen plus points in the fourth quarter in both. So that's NFL and CBS set records, just the wrong is story. Two Thousand Sixteen we were setting records for the right reason twenty twenty. Yeah I think I think it's the first time they were. Star owned three since two, thousand seven. That is correct and wasn't keen on the team. What's was that two thousand three? Yes, sir. Seven, year. Debacle out. Yeah. So the last time they started Owen three Keenan was on the team so Yeah is that a? Swipe Akina. No never I feel at all to that staff but. Guess I guess. We're supposed to give false hope. Because that's what the want so. Know they want I'm done doing that. Because I get I. Get you know get blamed for not having faith whatever. "Grew up Falcons fans were all still falcons fans I we just happened to write and talk about the team but yeah. So when you guys are in. Were hurting right there along with Yeah I. Mean Normally I got some good shit to say, but my heart is crushed like I'm just and it's only we to like smithfield against. Seasons at least the season's almost overnight can relax a little but I mean three weeks ago I was begging for this shit now I'm like, okay. Yeah. You'll have to watch this four, hundred, Fifty, eight. Four hundred fifty eight to one type of outcome. Every week. Now like is now I'm in store for Yeah Yeah it's crushing usually you have to wait until about week eight to be crushed to this extent, the Falcons But yeah, they're starting early this year. So maybe what they'll do is just crush to such an extent that like we have no more vestment but we all know that Quinn is going to win some games to keep everybody invest. He's really good at that. It's really good at that so. But I mean, honestly we do hope that turn around maybe we'll look back on this as like a big aberration in a great year I don't think that's true. I'm just saying that but it's theoretically possible. And I know everyone here as as down on the Falcons Zion keen is still holding out some cautious optimism. So it's good to get a variety of perspectives in here but they're a bad spot here they need to to make some quick to have any chance. And we will see what happens. We'll. We'll hear about this week they could be dealing with some bad injuries. Now, we saw some players go down and we didn't really even have a chance to get to that. We'll have more details on that obviously as the week goes on. So we'll hope for the best there. We'll hope for the best for the Falcons but yeah, I, it's tough. Every burchfield by the way guys is where you find him. And Keenan. By the way is at forty, sixty, five, I believe he has an instagram as well. what is that Of six performance ex expect before. It's yes. Sir Your your may fall. Younger. Younger and NFL. College, whatever you know, give me a call me rain offset. Hope you. Take a game to another level and man prayer for Kayla. McGowan May. I pray for man all eight to see that happen to a young two young fellow man especially. Good. especially good kid. Well, he's not a kid but especially a young man like Kayla praying for you buddy. Yeah. Yeah. We're obviously hoping for the best there for Caleb. And it's just it's brutal. Last year we lost we lost Lindstrom early to injury, and like this year we might be losing gary both first round picks from that draft class So we're just going to hope for the best hope it's it's not as serious as it appeared that we could give Gary back in here. Be Guys otherwise, we really appreciate you tuning in and and helping blow off some steam about this loss like I said. If you don't mind thrown like at the video, we really appreciate that helps everyone on Youtube, find the show and subscribe as well. If you'd like more Falcons content because we're we'll be delivering delivering in every week and after every game hopefully, they won't be this bad. But clearly you guys are gluttons for punishment because you tune in at record levels after games like this so. I guess we all are because we're still fans of this team. "A bigger loss in that, we all know that It's easy to get up in the emotions of first game and certainly with this coaching staff that is carryover from two thousand nineteen. You have every right not to have faith in den Quinn other in the rest that said I do think there are some positives to take away from this game and As I said before the first game, the NFL season is rarely ever a predictor of how the rest of season is going to go. So if you're wondering why you should continue watch the Falcons for the. Twenty season. Stay with us, I do think that this team has lots offer look at the wide receiver a rotation in what they did today look at what Todd Gurley did early in the first-half look at what the offensive line was able to do and I think you can find some reasons to to to build some optimism even if ultimately, no, we know the Atlanta. Falcons, they're gonNA crush hearts. So and I have one more. Leave your clothes on I. mentioned it on twitter in I. Think it's important to remember this. We all wanted Falcons Falcons football for months we all create. You'll you. Be careful what you wish for. Man Boy if that, if that phrase didn't ring more true than today I, don't know could. Evan Reminder listeners where they can find you. What you've got going on. You can find me at at the alcoholic writing in obviously on twitter at Evan Burchfield I will have a stats thing during the week I believe on. Tuesday. Kinda recapping where players ranked. Round the league touching on Matt Ryan now being ninth all time in passing yardage. Kind of you know basic stats like that. Just to kind of recap where everybody's at also on Friday's I, have my fantasy outlook will talk about the Falcons going into the weekend and also some league wide options you can look at also you know if you send me questions on twitter at. A Hollick Evan at Yahoo or just me on twitter whatever's easier for you I'll. Include them in that as a mailbag or whatever. So Yeah just enjoy your week folks football's back talking to be even with loss like this I find myself kind of comfortable because I'm just excited to see some football. "During the season he is my co host on the post game. Podcast is one of variety at the site. I'm talking of course. Evan Burchfield Evan. How are you doing man? I'm doing great. I'm ready to just talk about myself and be selfish here. Yes obviously this is all about getting to know the people who make up the Hollick DOT COM and make this podcast. You're a critical component of that. So let's jump into it first of all. Obviously I question Aid You Falcons Fan. And when did that happen so to summarize it because I could literally tells the story all day I was born in western North Carolina near Ashville. Which is the main city there And growing up before the Carolina Panthers came in there in Ninety five me and my Dad. went to Atlanta because it was actually about the same distance in my dad has is a lifelong Minnesota Vikings Fan since he was a kid. Mom because in he'd explain to me back then they didn't have you know today's youth in don't They think it's you. See All these different teams in stuff on TV all the time. And that's not how it was the main teams back. Then where you'd see the Dallas cowboys on Monday night football or whatever the same Cisco Forty niners packers. Whatever debt in the Vikings being one of them In it was the time of the Purple People Eaters. Or whatever ninety ways. He's he's a diehard vikings fan in the Vikings in nineteen ninety six. I was actually six years old Where playing in Atlanta so we went down in its Two two and a half hour drive so we went down to Atlanta Georgia. Dome and I I mean I was only six so unfortunately like I don't remember a whole lot of the game. I know the Falcons did of course lose the game Seventeen to twenty three I think tomorrow Anderson was on the roster I don't think June Jones might have been the coach Aside from that I mean. That's all obviously stuff. I looked at after like I was a kid in. The nose bleeds. Like I don't remember anything about the game. Got Some pictures from it and stuff like that but he took me. You know thinking I would become Minnesota Vikings fan like him. I don't know if it was the black jerseys black helmet just the coolest they had or because they were the home team but ever since that moment I've been you could say unhealthily obsessed with being a fan. It's life I think the Falcons I this point is living an unhealthy. Life are so long you got started early. So what is one of your earliest memories? And obviously as Falcons fan it could be a fog gallery or obviously be a very non positive memory. What's your earliest memories watching this team I mean when I think back to obviously like the dirty dancing Jamal Anderson like I I remember you know when you're older and you can look back like you're you realize yeah. He wasn't the best running back that ever lived but when I was young I thought he was God on off-field leg of the way he was his big dude who could You know and they even look bigger back then because in today's football they have. Everything's tighter the uniforms. Tighter shoulder pads on its big back. Then it was bulky in. He had a big shoulder pants. He had that face. Macs with the little. I don't know what it is but it's like old school little horn or whatever like the little U. shape thing In I just thought he was like amazing so doing the dirty bird eventually going on to the NFC championship against my dad's team. Obviously but in the Super Bowl but That I loved Tim to White I just I just remember being in North Carolina Even though we were so close it was rare. That like a rarity to be a falcons fan or see Falcons fans in anytime you did. It was like this big thing 'cause I mean it wasn't like you see how you go to the store and see like the cowboys had or something even today. I guess you could say it's the same but It was almost like a honor. Like self honor where it's like. Wow you know. I'm the Falcons Fan. This is unique. There's not a lot out there but then eventually you get on twitter and you're like oh there's a ton of yeah but when you're back in the days of Social Media. I didn't know any falcons fans. Yeah it's It's interesting you you'd think for a team like the Falcons which doesn't have the broad appeal like you mentioned the cowboys or forty niners. It does seem like regionally for a period of time. The Falcons were very popular with fans in other states. I I know someone that lives in Winston Salem North Carolina. Who is still to this day? A Hardcore Falcons Fan. Even after the panthers came in. Yeah because originally there were the only team really for him to to root for so. Yeah and here's a here's a fun fact. You know it the Falcons. It's like that first game I went to. That's the only home game I've ever been to. I've been to probably ten or more away games. You know in Florida where I live in. I am into a home a home game since. Yeah it's actually something that's relatively true for several of our writers at the Alchoholic Dot Com including our made editor. Dave coates lives in the northeast. We will not pinpoint his location for those who would stock him but moving on. We're here to talk about Evan number three. When did you start actually writing about this team and in what drove you to actually write about Instead of just simply being fan well for me. It started with twitter Which is basically writing. You're just not writing a long article you know you just put up your thoughts during games or after games. Whatever in early Are Corey Woodrow Foods with the Foul Golic? Now he was with risa breeder And you know I got to know corean stuff and I went onto right there for I think like a season I think the twenty seventeen season In Corey obviously came to the Falco Hollick and already knew pretty much all of the writers anyways just through twitter and stuff But I got an opportunity to write for the Falcon Holly in I've been doing that since Twenty November twenty eight team so It's it's I I enjoy it. It's fun to know that people are reading your stuff in some disagree in some degree in just being able to share your thoughts with people. You know even this kind of stuff where people want to listen to my background like. That's an incredible thing I will say for those listening if you're looking to interact with alcohol and its various writers twitter's absolutely under percent the place to do it. Most of us have very significant Twitter presences and Evan is no exception. I exception exceptions so and it's not just football. We'll talk to you about anything. Oh really yeah. I think if you're just looking to get to know the people who also enjoy watching the Falcons get tortured by team. Twitter's the place to do it All right so not. You've been writing about the team for a couple of years. You've been on twitter. You've been at the alcoholic What is one of the worst takes where you look bagging? Fake Oh man a wish. Take those words back because Sarong I I mean the ones that instantly come to mind. I remember being like amped when we signed Ray Edwards. Probably like we'll unease too easy one where like a lot of people share that same opinion but I remember just the excitement like I remember. I told you where I was like I was. I was working at Sports Authority in college and I was like. I went to the restroom to read it. You know and I'm like Oh my God we side Ray Edwards. 'cause I think the eagles were the other team. That was like rumored to be interested in. I thought Oh this is gonNA change stuff. Obviously that fell flat on the other. One is more recent I guess In another easy one but miles jack I remember wanting him in when the Falcons passed on. Komo Neil like like. I didn't have anything negative to say about Neil but I was like what is wrong with this team like war. Why would you pass on Miles Jack? Like he fell into your lap. But you know I guess both of them in hindsight have Kinda had some injuries like So but I mean when Kiana kneels on the field. He's incredible so yeah. I write that up as a self Where state you were alone. In absolutely Ray Edwards was all many of us are always many of us. Were in that boat. So Yeah. The former underwear model did not workout for On the flip side one of your best takes. Maybe you saw player. He thought okay. This guy is and I'm a fan of him and and other people were aboard or someone that early on you thought they were going to pan out and it turned out that they did. Well if you follow me on twitter My most infamous one is probably the Giorgio. Takeo Oh no where like. Everyone was grilled me for but I didn't think he proved enough to keep him and I know he went like eight for eight. In what would that have been twenty twenty eighteen from the team He went like eight for eight He you know he did have a great. He did a great job but I thought it was. Bizarre that Falcon just handed him the Job In we're kind of in that same situation now Where the Falcons haven't brought any competition yet in for Cou. I mean they probably will because there's still a lot of time between now and Preseason but yeah that would probably be one of my better takes because I was in I spent like the whole off-season like why are you just giving this man the job? Then they eventually bring Blair Walsh who was like the King of choking on big kicks like it was like they just doubled down on it and then eventually Matt. Brian came back. But in all die on the hill that it was the place holding a having a rotation of hunters last year that really ruined it for Matt. Bryant's return That's probably another argument for another day. Yeah probably so I will say I do want to remind our readers listeners that it was Evan in not the national writers that broke the News Matt Bryant Being Adam Schefter and Ian rapoport steal my source it is also I wanNA give a shout out to Jack Crawford member. There was at one year. Yeah where like he was coming off the Think it was a torn triceps. It was like something on his arm. in like I was saying he's you know he's gone in for a big year he actually did have a career year any finish like tied for second in Sacks L. Probably me my other some weird best tanks. I will say I like Jack Crawford. Lot for being Just a quality player that Falcons didn't have to spend a lot of money on so yeah and I've got I've gotten to know him personally and he. He really is a genuine Full like a quality person. You know you hear these stories of some of these guys were just like jerks. They liked the fame. Go to their head in just being in the league but he he really is a nice to now. He's in Tennessee. Yeah as as many falcons are.

"On your on the roster but whatever I guess I guess I guess is a good kick. The kid can kick. He's versatile can't kick he He's had kickoff At Syracuse. At time he even Registered a fifty two yard field goal while Syracuse at one point so he's versatile but how versatile the To be nowadays. That is something I don't actually require from up under what I again. I guess I'll go with it. But they were again was another chance for them to get as rusher and he didn't so yeah. Let's go with it. I guess he's an x guy. Sure going at it out. If he plays out like Matt Boxer. Did I guess you could say all right? He's a seventh-round or who made the roster and hopefully can contribute for many years to come. I can see it was a kit. Maybe sever nobody's going hunters round the coast. There is in pick one when the draft was. Okay so I mean I guess I guess I mean everyone value certain positions more than others but yet no one was gonna be climbing over other teams to get out. I don't know I heard. There's a lot of buzz around Hoffler because of his main. That's why sterling idea. Yeah this is a guy that you said to the the the bottle shop to buy the beer for the The NCAA can't the names. You just whatever yes real and you just tell them the beer. That's what it is. I'll say this at least Hawford doesn't have a crazy outright. Melissa Tattoo like to inform her point. I'm glad this guy doesn't have like a a Nazi sign. You eight points. I gotTa take joy where we can find it here. When we're talking really would have been questioning that same. Yeah I I am. I'm glad that are. Puncher is not also a card carrying member of the KKK. So we're arguably we're setting the bar very very low for what we expect out of a punter but apparently they're NFL teams that find that a desirable trait early on loan in that. Wraps up. The Falcons draft class so is a real quick synopsis. Here is what the Falcons did in twenty twenty first round. They selected cornerback. Aj barrel out of Clemson. Second Round Defensive Tackle Marlon Davidson out of Auburn Third Rail Center Matt. Hennessy temple fourth-round Mike Walker Fresno State linebacker in Jalen Hawkins Safety of California of course seventh-round Sterling hoffer enter so real quick gene. I'm going to start with you here. After seeing how this played out knowing the needs to falcons had looking looking at the value of these players they trail. How'd you feel about the Falcons? Twenty twenty draft class. You know overall I'd probably give it a B. I'm a little bit concerned that there wasn't more of an emphasis on the pass rush. Even though I love David then I think that he can be a really disrupt player I don't hate the. Aj Tarot pick You know they needed a corner. I think that they knew that he wouldn't get past. The raiders I love the Hennessy Peck. I like the Walker Pekka Lot. Hawkins I at least get it because you know they probably needed a safety. And like I said I mean I can only muster so much emotional energy about seventh round pumps the alright militia tattoos and so overall. I think that I'd give it a b The the whole effort. I'm I'm pretty pleased with that. I'm not mad online about it and so We all know that that's unusual so yeah. I think it's pretty good. Awesome Evan. Your thoughts on this. The twenty. Twenty Falcons class. Yeah I mean as. Y'All said the only thing that was really missing was the edge player but overall I would give it a B. I mean every draft could be better technically but I think it was pretty solid It I don't want to say it out loud but it did. Give me optimism for this Season so we'll see what happens. Eric you've spent a lot of time looking east players in this class. Give us your thoughts on what the Falcons did with the twenty twenty draft. Picks be overall. I think it was a pretty class. No I don't love. The agents were picked by no hate it either especially when you get to the back story about how a lot of teams Throw as I remember anyway right off. The raiders were interested in as was the saints so bear lease a stolen from a division. The division rival so good point Like I said overall I'll give it a you know be it was. It wasn't a star Senate Class. That were really. No hint liners To meet their better players on the board at each position but they chose guys that like I said earlier Rich ready to contribute your one so And I appreciate the fact that they didn't really take any projects any type guys. Look at and say hey they WANNA meet about two years coaching before they know they got. Guys that are veterans at the collegiate level. In your radio now so Yeah I I just wish they would grab another I kind of feel like they're playing with fire this year. Just like they do last year. Honestly you signing Dante Fowler. I still feel like depending way too much on hoping met a certain guy steps up. Instead of just accumulating bodies having a plethora options I after like they're they're playing with fire right now when it comes to that. I think it's I think all of you sort of summarized where I am where most people are like. This is a good not great draft class. A bunch of names that Tick off the boxes and you know one picked that maybe was questionable in were maybe to again. I'M NOT GONNA argue over seven rounders and ultimately you these guys are gonNA prove it on the field one or the other and whether or not they can talk whether or not they've got burned in the championship game is going to be completely irrelevant win. In September October walls around. And and you know that's what is so great about the NFL is that these guys ultimately Their success is determined not by what happened in college now that they've gotten here they're on the team the only thing that matters what they do going forward it. Can I say something real quick? Yeah hit me the listeners. Who are still hanging stuff over eight Because the one game like let it go like it was. The last game is collegiate career. He's in starting for two and a Half Years. Let it go. You know in their receivers made a lot of quarterbacks look embarrassed every defense. Last year they made based or teach us on C. J. Anderson gave up one hundred yard game. It smart safes. Let it go happens that Fantastic point to that point on the podcast realm of tried to get with some of the The team sites have covered these players from collegiate level to get their deeper thoughts especially a terrell in Davidson us to to get a good feel for what they saw from these guys in their time in college and hopefully that guy's more perspective because you know seeing someone their worst moments should never be a barometer for how you judge them as a prospect. How you judge them for future and I think we can say safely that none of us want to be judged by that none of us want to be judged by our worst moment in our careers to say that that is who we are and will forever be I think it's unfair to put any of these players under that sort of criticism for their careers in the NFL. Going forward Fake York fantastic point. So we're going to wrap this up guys. Thanks for joining Gina. Won't you tell our listeners where he can find you? What you've got going on. You can find me at Gina Thomas on twitter where I am often posting pictures of my dog and about a week and a half. So right now tweets might be wedding related. It's turns out that you a small virtual wedding at home. I is a lot of work and a lot of stuff pulled together. So that's kind of where I am right now Were doing a theme week across our estimation team brands this week. It's going to be Jersey theme. We we should have some fun. Falcon stuff up on the Falco Hollick. Because obviously we've got New Jersey's to talk about so keep an eye out for all of that and Otherwise you can find the and my house Because not intend to yet corona virus again or give it to anybody else so I will be right here. I don't I don't care. The bowling alleys are open. I am not slim bowling. Awesome Evan reminded listeners. Can find you what you've got going on. Yeah you can find me on twitter at Edinburgh field. I mean you should be checking out the alcoholic all the time anyways. Just because there's so much content specially now that the draft is over in. You're looking for stuff to read but in specific I mean Dave show runs about Golic. He we put together. The Falcons undrafted free agent tracker 'cause players who didn't get drafted but you know many of them have a possibility of making the roster like Ryan schrader did and Like Allama Dais Akitas. Who's on the current roster? He was undrafted. So it's not like the end of their football journey so they did sign about eighteen or nineteen. So you can look at the tracker and see that What else Oh. The rookies selected their Jersey numbers into that also on the foul colleague Dot Com. What Jersey numbers the rookies? We just talked about Will will wear on this upcoming season and then tomorrow I believe or Monday I had an interview with Morten Andersen which is gonNA post on Monday. So yes. That's about it tastic Erik. Same question you where they can find you what you've got going on You can find me on twitter at Eric. Robinson today was released. My Mullen Davis report along with much litter. Bauge a film review that are looked over again after after the draft was completed. I've been reviewing against Oregon. Lsu Georgia in ups Ask not draft. Season is over. And I'M GONNA try not to go into a deep depression because of it so I have to try to find something until then. Yeah I guess I guess. Maybe it's never too early for For for draft takes Shula bail on don had bailout limit early because you can find him on twitter at say which way and of course his articles at the Falcons Light Dot Com. Before we close on this. Podcast WANNA give a big shoutout to the alcoholic team that killed it during the draft during the week leading up in of course during the draft That includes a day. Chote Gina Thomas EAC- each Carter Brazil Corey Woodruff. Robinson joins US I think you were on just a couple of weeks ago. So this is A. We're getting a lot of Eric in the short timeframe man I'm happy beyond will in that corona virus. Yeah Yeah we're not talking about the And also joining us. One of our other writers odd non each. Hey guys given how this quarantine is going. We'RE GONNA go to a point where we're just doing a podcast every single day just for the human contact the next podcast will be our favorite drink mixes last but not least. You've see his articles all the time at the site. None other than Corey Woodruff Corey. It's good to have you on man. How they how they get along with. Everybody awesome all right. We've got quite the career we're gonNA jump straight into it I'M GONNA start with before we jumped into the biggest news because I feel like we need to save. Let that breathe a little bit of the Fans WanNa hear our takes on the big signing. I want to start with. Where some of the Falcons recent Free agents were recent cuts have landed a we now know that Vic Beasley has joined the Tennessee. Titans I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong. It's a one year deal a little under ten million nine point three million something like that. Little bit of approve deal. Looks like even though the the dollar pretty significant So he he's landed somewhere pretty quickly thoughts. Anyone jump in your thoughts and Beasley joining the titans. Good riddance man. I was waiting for that. He said I thought that was one thought. Thank you eric. Vick Lis Lis made a lot of money for someone who had one good season in his career. May I wish I was a pass rusher? There are a lot of quarterbacks that have done that to be fair. I running 'cause he was two years now hell have made twenty two million dollars man. That's a lot on like prove it years where people just keep giving him money every year. Next year I'll make ten million again after getting like five sacks has pass rushers just make that kind of money on the Mark IV sex in the last three games if do just enough before the end of the season said get up to get paid then is Vic Beasley the Sam Baker Pass rushers. Oh God I would do that. Sam Influencing Baker sucked. That'd be a nice as he bounces in. He bounces back in a place where I think it can help them know. Of course his head coach is Mike. Variable so that would definitely in mind well. I can't really say that because we all thought that having a head coach like Dan Quinn will help them meet a black. I don't know if this is going to be a situation where he takes advantage of it because he's on a one year deal at this in his career. Which if you look at it a player of his age getting one year deal. He's not that far from the exit or the NFL right guys. Get three four five long-term deals so it this is the this is one opportunity drops the ball here may not get another chance Now there's going to be much not is going to be expected from him very much tennis but we'll see how it does but I'm just glad he's not in Orlando and I just WanNa say. One thing Falcons fan should be rooting for Vic Beasley to be very good next year because ideal can be pushed up to twelve million dollars in. Correct me if I'm wrong. But that could be the difference between a fifth round fake fourth round pick content for the food. Yep Yep Yep so root for Vic Beasley to hit on those incentives to make that twelve million Viggo. Get your money man. I was just kidding. Go go out there and ball out. Gina Corey guys are little bit quiet. Got Any thoughts vic I I mean I definitely think that the one year deal thing is probably the most important context here you know. I think that's Beasley as pruitt situation. He's had one year of really consistent production and even that wasn't really consistent production because you know he had a multi fat game against the broncos that sort of stack is numbers and two thousand sixteen. So He is a very nice guy he is a person that I will always wish well And I hope that it does go well for him in Tennessee but yeah it it is I think that you know if it doesn't that is probably GonNa be the last that we see Vicki Slam this league corey. You're into the sea whether you think do you think funny. I have a lot of friends that are titans fans in when they were kind of like poking me a little bit to see what I thought I was like. You know it's fine. You know it's okay to add some context. It's a bit mind numbing to me that they traded giral Casey in salary dump move today for a seventh round big for the Broncos and he was counting around eleven. Twelve me on the cap in Tennessee has vic beasley potentially May with incentives on the CAP. Which is they're not comparable at all anything that Jiro case. He's very good still is even in his thirties. Beasley as wide league inconsistent. Sometimes he plays pretty well sometimes. He's basically nonexistent so Again nothing underscore. Everyone's cinema that he's a very good person. And you know you always like secret. People be successful in my so from a human standpoint. I'm happy for him. Nothing With the titans he's GonNa be a very opportunistic scheme for him. I think the titans are. They lost bs some curious how they're going to translate defensively but I mean it's a good situation for him. They don't need them to be the main guy earlier there but at the same time he probably will start for. Tennessee drafted pass rusher so or if they signed somebody else so I think it's a good opportunity for him to get things back on track but again like everyone said that have to do that because his time in Atlanta was always very uneven. As I feel like you're being very generous but That's what we about to all right actually Corey dropped into our chat right before we jumped onto this podcast. Any his news from Jordan. Scholz that desma true font is signing with the Detroit Lions and. Apparently the deal is going to be for two years. Twenty one million total fourteen million guaranteed SA- thoughts on troop on. I was out you know. I'll start here because I was not a big fan of this cut. I understand the need for dollars freed up. I thought they could have kept him on for one more year. Instead of letting him go this year they could have cut him more going into twenty twenty one so this this cut was a little surprising to me and now seeing the getting it looks like a. I think the lions are getting a good player for probably a little below market value true funds. Still a top corner a top ten year starting corner in this league when he's healthy so put that out there thoughts on true font landing with alliance mean. I think this is going to play in what they do. At third overall but when it comes to true landing with the lions nothing's good signing them. I get I get the fans frustration or the confused at the very least when it comes to cutting him but I also understand what the team is probably doing. Because this this is a move that it was either. GonNa Happen this off season or next off season and I thought he would have got one more year. But didn't but this you know they're they're moving forward with. I think his departure also has something to do with the team's confidence in Joe. Whitt junior the new secondary coach Because you know you would want for young coats like that you WanNa have as many better as possible. But he's being given a young group at cornerback of mold and again I think it's somewhat of a confidence boost to him because they believe he can do. That gets a responsible so Best wishes to chew on things going to be great in Detroit. They got themselves a nice little corner. Paired with air is slow and what else chime in on you go ahead I refuse. No okay now. It's I'm still kind of shell shocked by this move. I thought that We were about a year away from parting ways with true fund just because of the salary cap implications. Guess Post June. I will free us our free up around ten million dollars cap space which will help sign the free agent class. But I'm happy for truth. Man He came in. He was a very good first round pick. I played through his second contract with the team. And when you draft someone. You reasonable expectation. Is You draw. Confers rookie contract and if he gets through a second contract than you know. That's just the Cherry on top of the Sunday. I think that losing him opens the door a lot. More for first round corner in the draft are the very least in the second round. Something that has been mocked to the Falcons for auto. It feels like a decade. They just Marcus Matt but this year may actually happen so you know even a broken clock is right twice a day so you know there there we go but you know. I'm happy for him. I think he's still a very good cornerback. He had some injuries struggles but remember last year. Even through nine games had a career high in interceptions. Yeah he's like he's finally learning how to catch the ball which is something that we criticize them for over But you know I think I think this is a very good contract lines as well. Two years. True Fund is what Twenty eight twenty nine years old? I think he'll play. He'll be in Detroit throughout the entire contract and then he'll set himself up for maybe one more good pay day before the end of his career which is a good thing to see Jim. Yeah I agree with all of that one of the things that I always feel compelled to defend true. Fon a little bit When the pass rushes as bad as it has been in Atlanta over? I mean the past. John Abraham left basically It's very hard for for cornerbacks to effectively cover. If they're having the cover for ten to twelve seconds on every passing I mean it's just completely insane and so.

"Victory Twenty nine to three over the Carolina Panthers in week eleven two thousand eighteen season. This is Dave Walker. Joined by Evan Burchfield. Of course my Co Host for these post game. PODCAST you're talking about the Falcons defense because of all of the changes. That have happened since the bye week. I think it is it's completely non debatable. That the biggest surprise has been the turnaround in the Falcons defense. Last week in the Orleans. They held the saints to nine points no touchdowns through four quarters. They had six sacks on drew brees they a followed it up with this performance Carolina which included five sacks of Carl Allen. Four freaking interceptions. Like where is this been. The they allow three point so they have now it since the bye week. They've allowed twelve points in the past two games they have eleven sacks sacks four interceptions this arguably is even better than I think what fans hoped. The defense would be at the beginning of the season. So Evan whether some of your quick takeaways about this defense since the bye week because I feel like this is the big talking point in Atlanta right now. Yeah I I mean first off the sacks are coming out of nowhere We have a pass rush in. It's look it's very good As you mentioned the interceptions like the one one Kyle Allen through in in the end zone to to find like you're taking points off the board in that sort of thing Um which were not used to seeing because you know it just it usually? That's why we ended up losing because our defense just kind of folds in the red zone in that say they've been stepping up to the plate In you have to look like Christian McCaffrey are arguably at the running back position. He's probably the best right now in terms of what he can bring to the table also aside from running the ball you know. He's he's dangerous in the passing game. he he had fourteen so even split. He had fourteen targets in the passing game. He had fourteen carries in the Russian game. He went for seventy yards rushing which which is fine by he had eleven catches for one hundred twenty one yards. He still had a Christian. McCaffrey day if you play fantasy football. You're well aware of that. The big thing though no touchdowns allowed across the board That was something. Because I don't think the saints scored either right. They scored wet nine point. So so yeah They're not allowing allowing anybody to score. That's the biggest thing with this team in. You know you look at it. And it'd it'd be different if they were playing kyle back-back weeks but they play. Drew Brees in Collin Collin for while the panthers fans and I'm sure their attitudes change now they were Kinda like wait a second. We you know we don't eat cam new and we have Alan the future Four interceptions he threw the ball fifty times like this panthers. Thirteen was getting beat in the only put up three points. That's I mean that's amazing. Especially considering the Falcons defense you know we were ready to throw away pretty much the first half of the season. They've really stepped up to the plate. In you know if you listen to last week show. You're probably going to hear me in. Dwi basically saying Oh okay this was you know. We'll see if this was a one hit wonder sort of thing We me and you basically weren't very like Oh yeah. This is the new defense that will it. Definitely CENEX We had our concerns. But I mean like are you still concerned because they've done it backpack weeks in arguably if you look at our schedule going into regular season these two were probably our toughest opponents. It's usually that at Carolina at saints or at New Orleans that's usually losses in. They didn't only be done. They beat their ass. Basically so I mean what do you think do you think this is. We can't ignore the Elephant Room that Dan Quayle apparently like a made some staffing changes and stuff like that in right away. This defense is all of the sudden. Wanted a best out there so do you. I think there's you know like this isn't going forward. This defense has basically changed face in. You know. This is what we've got now. Or what do you think's is going on. I mean you know you mentioned the coaching changes with the Jeff. elbrick calling the defensive plays on first and second down he Morris Who I think arguably is the big name to pay attention to hear where he morris who took over the secondary after the bye in this calling the third down plays for the for the defense has has been looking at the secondary is a night and day difference from the first eight games to these last two games? Let's talk about some of the stats in secondary You've got doesn't true fought with interception Ricardo Allen with interception in three pass breakups Z.. Interception in the past break-up is Oliver no interceptions but the two pass breakups disc defensive secondary is playing at the level. We thought the capable of and they're they did it suddenly now the nowhere. I had mentioned at the bye week when I when I had done with my podcasts analyzing the PF scores for the Falcons defense that the one thing that stood out was that the entire secondary had regressed across the board. Every a single player had gotten worse all at the same time in one season and that is just not statistically likely that pointed to an issue hugh either with the scheme or with the coaches or with both. It is highly unlikely that every single player on your defensive secondary gets worse in same season. Usually that's assign again of coaching or what. You're asking to do what we have seen. The past. Two weeks is a secondary that is playing incredibly a Better than what they were in the first eight games as we mentioned True Font Allan Casey I is a all Kendall Sheffield all these guys are playing eh much better performance level than what they had in the first eight games and then on top of that the eleven sacks holy cow You know we had six against Saint Adrian clayborn had to against the Panthers Vic Beasley has back to back games with a sack. You Watch out healthy making twenty million dollars contract tack. McKinley had another sack in I WANNA point out something about tax even though the numbers don't appear to be there. I would argue that. He has been one of our most disruptive pass rushers over the past couple of weeks he is not you know he. He does have the sack he I think. He has sacked last week but he is generating pressure on a very consistent basis. Now over the past several weeks including going back to into the game against the seahawks before the bye week tack. I think has begun to turn it around around these young player. He's in your three. I'm kind of excited to see what he can do to finish off the season But yeah it just seems like everything they were wrong. They're suddenly getting right. Eleven sacks in two games coming into the the by week they had seven sacks in eight games in the last two games I have an eleven sacks so they literally have four more sacks in six less I mean that is. That's my boy right now. How much of that is Allen versus? You know again you know you mentioned that it's not like last week. They were playing the scrub. They were playing drew brees in his home home and they sacked him six times. They held him Two touchdowns this week they may kyle. Alan look like somebody who needed to be benched. Legitimately four interceptions five sacks he. What the Falcons did this weekend may single handedly make sure that Cam Newton stays and Carolina? Yeah Exterior of all the things that happened that may be one of the big takeaways and as you mentioned I mean. It's such a great point. Both with these winds have been on the road. The Falcons have I think three of their next four games are at home. And those include games against Tampa against the panthers and against the saints in. I think the next one where they go on the road to believe is the forty niners which a tough game obviously one of the best teams in see this year. We won't talk about who the head coach is there. But we're this falcons defense is concerned. I think you asked me. Am I buying in. Yeah Yeah I kind of am. I know which is always being here. Couple weeks ago I think the the a big thing is if it just came out of nowhere it will be one thing but it came after the bye. It came with as you mentioned substantial coaching. Changes with Morris Jeff sort of taking over in a combined defensive coordinator role to me the fact that they've done on the road they've done back to back weeks the fact. They've looked good for four quarters in each game it. It wasn't like they look good for two quarters. They've looked for a straight quarters in both games. That feels like more of a real turnaround than maybe a false false positives so any. I know I realize I've gone off on this defense because it's been really exciting but any last thoughts about what you've seen from from the defense the sax the coverage just the opponents doing on the road and the anything you WANNA add. No I mean you pretty much. Covered summed summed. It up there in you know as I mentioned earlier. They're just not allowing the opponents to score. You're definitely GONNA WIN Games do not allowing touchdowns in this isn't just on the defense. But I noticed over the last two games. They've been having less penalties than their opponents. So they're they're finally playing discipline football all because there was plenty games in the first half of the season where they lost games because they had so many penalties against Carolina only had three penalties which was worth at twenty yards but the panthers had eight which was sixty eight yards and you know shoot? They were basically shooting themselves in the foot multiple times the panther so their point. I mean. It's like you don't want to say here in Brag too much because next week anything can happen but the teams turned it around and you know the proof in put in basically because we talked about this you know even around the bye week. How as the Where Julio apparently had like a big speech in players they wanNA play for Dan? Quinn and Arthur blank was in the room and since that point somebody mentioned on twitter. That tack was in the room and apparently like look someone who was really affected by it. Like okay we need to do something here. and He's played the phenomenal ever. Since like I mean I don't want to you know usually we can't ignore that kind of stuff but this team is turned it around. We knew they were talented. Even while they were losing like games they shouldn't have We knew they were talented. The staffing changes all of that. Something's happened but this this team is is all of a sudden you know even people around the League or like what we're has this team been you know in the fans are definitely asking But you know we'll see going forward but I have to agree with you the defense on buying into it Next week will be an interesting test. will be at home playing the Tampa. Bay buccaneers who Jameis Winston has looked. Pretty good against Falcons in the past But you know so as drew brees. And he didn't score a touchdown against the New Orleans. So it's going to be interesting. You know if the Falcons defense is GonNa step up again Because you mentioned at the top of the show so in maybe you WanNa talk about it a little bit. But we're still not out of the playoff race somehow statistically Leeann you and I talked about this briefly in our writers chat it seems like the Falcons best path to play. Offs is to win the Division in hope that the saints fall apart in their last the six or seven games which seems unlikely because right. Now you know the Falcons best possible who records nine and seven and you've got several teams already. Have Eight wins. Like forty forty nine hundred nine wins. Seattle has eight wins. The Vikings have eight Wayne Wins the packers. Have Eight wins so they would literally need one of you. Know the the SEATTLE MINNESOTA A or the packers to literally. Just lose out for them to get a wild card and the focus would still have to win out so statistically really really really low chances can happen you know their best bet mathematically saints sort of fall apart finish the season and they win out in win and the see south. I mean I think if you were going to bet money won't take any was GONNA put money down to the Falcons win. See South this year but you know you mentioned mentioned it. I think the big thing here is a lot of fans questioning..

"Rams joining me as always is my co host and fellow writer at the Alchoholic Evan Burchfield Eh not good and I imagined find folks listening right now aren't doing well either so how are you doing Gavin you well I drink through it so I'm not as bad as I think this is easily I've been watching the falcons since nineteen eighty for the most part and I will say this is one of the worst falcons performances I've seen in recent months sorry so that tells you about how was for those who don't know if you're listening to this the Falcons did lose they lost thirty seven it's a ten to the Los Angeles Rams who came in on the three game losing streak came in with Todd Gurley forming to par Jared Goff struggling of course the ill the solution to many ills in the NFL is to face the Falcons defense The thirty seven thirty ten because last seven points came off of a special teams turnover but really weekly this was just a debacle of a game and it was a debacle of a game the Dan Quinn needed I think to to be able save his job and I think we're at the point where there are a lot of fans asking if Arthur blank can even wait for the end of the season Zain or even the bye week which is just one week away we have one more game until the bye week so evident just real quick with your quick thoughts about this game about what happened today against the rams well it was weird Matt Ryan for the Din Watch Matt Ryan left with a ankle injury sorry where Dwi doing this for like literally minutes after the game ended so by the time you're listening to this it may be known what the injury actually is but he was looking hobbled walking into the backstage or whatever you call it and devante freeman a fight with Aaron Donald it was a weird game yeah and like you said that lasts seven points a lot of folks probably thought the game ended ended thirty ten to thirty because it came with in less than thirty seconds left so a lot of folks probably just shut the game off in assume the final score was ten to thirty but it is ten thirty seven and it's rough in you know I know we'll dive deeper into it but my wife initial thoughts were in the first half I thought the defense wasn't terrible we got we got some like the foil Lucon what was it roughing the passer that really wasn't he he hit often like it was it was if it was thirty years ago it was as clean tech spoke at the hit as you can get on a quarterback in he fell on him because the NFL wants US to be able to somehow if you hit the quarterback rotate your body off of them which is pretty impossible to do so in the defense I thought did well in the first half You know let me look right here I believe it was the only thirteen the rams only had thirteen in the first yeah the rams halftime the rams only had thirteen points which to me is a win considering the what we saw from the defense's sheer but in the second half they pretty much just showed the you know old falcons defense were used to season showed up at halftime and we I pretty much got blown out so yeah what did you have any other thoughts in out John Yeah I mean I think you hit a lot of the big thing for me is this is the first game at home after you know being on the road for a couple of weeks it was against a team that you know coming in the head had lost three in a row they were struggling jared Goff as as a QB is someone that you know is not as mobile as some of the quarterbacks we faced in the past few weeks so if there if the Falcons pass rush was gonNA finally come alive this should have been the game they the I have an offensive line that has struggled and they also have a QB who does not do elegance blitz and yet again falcons did not register a single sack in this game I think that is four straight games now and they have five on the season after seven games which is gonNA have to spell this out that is dismal that is beyond bad that is arguably bottom of the league and enough to get a defensive coordinator fired so happens the defensive coordinator for this team is also the head coach so let's talk about the offense because this was I think an area of big frustration the last two games they've played well you know this skirt scored thirty plus points in the past couple of games today they score ten points against the rams defense which arguably has much better playmakers you've got Aaron Donald you've got Dante Fowler who got three sacks in this game you've got a Jalen Ramsey who artfully do not even have a great game Julio was burning repeatedly and that was sort of the the story this game is a falcons offense could not get anything going with just ten points on Award Matt Ryan before he was injured and we'll talk about that in a little bit sixteen of Twenty seven for one hundred fifty nine yards zero touchdowns and one fluky tale interception a screen pass Disa- knew that bounced off his hands in yourself did devante Freeman seven carries nineteen yards receiving Julio Jones six receptions ninety three yards led the day Austin Hooper four forty six in the touchdown just not a whole lot going against this rams defense which I will remind folks the bucks scored for thirty plus points against just a few weeks ago on the road so what do you make of this falcons offense and only scoring ten points against rams defensive has struggled in recent weeks yeah it's a shame because you know what you were mentioning about Ramsey Julio Jones actually had like solid day he would have had a much better one but the times he did be Ryan Debbie Ramsey Ryan just over three limor it just didn't they didn't connect there whatever Ryan I think this is the first game this season where he didn't have over three hundred yards pretty sure that's correct because he finished with one fifty three I believe one fifty nine I believe every game before this he's had three hundred which I believe sorta record I remember seeing or seven would have been record but yet it's night and day compared to what we saw last week if you listen to last week's podcast asked me into Dwi were pretty much talking up the Falcons offense you know even though they lost they points on the board everybody pretty much did their job CBS it just came down to the defense against the Arizona cardinals in that's why we lost that game this game totally different falcons win in the half time with Mike Three points I think it was thirteen to three a half time it's just you know in in the only touchdown came I think was like what towards the end Shaw hit Hooper Matt Shaab like had like a perfect game when he came anyone six for six sixty five yards edge down hundred and fifty one point four quarterback rating like he looked solid it was weird weird game in Hooper's actually I catch I think came towards the I think it was like a minute thirty five in the third quarter so the first half almost the first three quarters you can say he wasn't he uninvolved it's a shame because I mean like you said the rams defense has struggled but we are a get right game as you've mentioned in the rams outright in good for them but you know I think the narrative at least during the game if you listen to the announcers was like Ramsey was like you know stopping Julio and stuff which if you watch the game wasn't the case Julio's Constantly Getting Open Matt Ryan didn't see him or overthrew or any still finished with six catches for ninety three yards like Rio jobs did Leo Gentleman's so I wouldn't let I wouldn't let a Ramsey narrative you know bother you or anything but yeah but you know Freeman getting injected certainly didn't help he I mean he that's a pretty good games lately any finish today with seven carries nineteen yards so we didn't really have a commitment to the run game You know Brian Hill came in. carries eleven yards there really was no run game in Anita Smith we're hoping he's okay he had one carry for seven yards in he left with a concussion on a lose it pass coverage or whatever I think he got rolled or something and he him with the helmet contact knocked him out early in the game and and I think some fans we're gonNA rightfully look at this and say why is some Kenyan Barner active in ironically Barner had a good games day returning ball while Oh you know your your draft pick allison is sitting on the bench and you know it's it's hard to predict that you're gonNA lose your your top two running accent game and be forced to go with your third running back and you know Brian Hill did well enough in in the circumstances but it I think we're at the point with Falcons where they're moves with the guys who are active versus inactive or the big issue here it's not what's keeping the team from winning Whether or not you have matt go no active versus ties umbro is not going to be the difference between thirty seven and ten in you being the rams in this game it's pretty clear dirt covered doesn't have an offense for good off does not have a plan for good defense this is he does not have a plan for a pass rush can get to Ryan which they did all game long with guys like Dante Fowler and Aaron Donald and when it comes to the offense that is where you've spent a lot of your money in the off season you spent your first two first round draft picks to fix this offensive line and obviously cannot you can't put too much blame on your your your first round pick out for injury Chris Lindstrom and Kayla mcgarry is a rookie he's struggling right tackle and that was bound to happen because I said tough position the NFL but still you you've spent all of this draft capital on your offense you've got Julio Jones Matt Ryan Awesome Hooper Calvin Ridley what's new and you score ten points in it's not the first time this has happened so I I don't think that gets a free pass here because Dan queen the stinking up the joint if anything in my opinion Dirk Koetter deserves as much blame for fielding an offense it's been wildly inconsistent incredibly uncreative in the place that we've seen on the field and today it was so bad that's it got Matt Ryan Injured Matt Ryan was in the boot after the game which a is the first time since two thousand nine this quarterback has put up with some absolute garbage over the years and this is arguably one of the absolute worst seasons that we've seen him have to put up with in that includes I think even two thousand thirteen two thousand fourteen which were some disastrous seasons so any fun will fought I mean for me it's the defense played better to write home about I thought they played better but for me the offense really was the big story in this one that they're just their inability to protect Ryan their inability to score their inability to do anything do you have any final thoughts.

"To the DACA Alex Post Game podcast for the two thousand nineteen season week to the the Atlanta Falcons hosting the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night football big game prime time the only one falcons hosting the one in Oh Philadelphia Eagles of course Chris joining me as always is my co host and fellow writer at the Alchoholic Evan Burchfield Evan. How are you doing man while the W on doing doing great considering the exciting game. We got to watch last night after what week one look like and then what we got to experience James last night is a total flip the script so to speak in yeah. I'm excited to talk about it. It was last week was a little a bit tough for you and I it's. This one feels a lot different so we're going to dive into it. We're going to start on the offensive side of the ball. Where Falcons Walk Ins? Were going up against. another defensive front in the eagles that you know is really formidable. They've got a Fletcher Cox Brandon Graham Timmy Jernigan. This is a team that can disrupt a lot of offensive lines so we'll start. They're starting the trenches when you think back on this game what was your impression of how the offensive line did throughout the night I think the biggest stat fans should look at is that Matt Ryan was only sacked one time. I came later in the game. everybody did a phenomenal job. I mean you know mcgarry left for brief period. It looks like we might lose him for a length elite amount of time and then you just like appeared on the field somehow some sort of magic but you know during that period same bray low did fine. I mean you know he didn't do anything to ruin the game for us us but yeah. I mean considering who was against the eagles. front seven is just tough though. I think they did a pretty good job job. I'd give him like a B plus. The Standard of what we expected I think for me it was again. The right side line actually played pretty well in a mcgarry Jim Brown his first start at right guard filling in for the injured. Chris Lindstrom played very well and overall the only. I think the only downside where I would. Maybe take some notches down. A little bit is just in the running game. This is the second straight week where they've been really unable to consistently established the Ryan. There were some good runs in the game. I don't want to you know discredit completely early but they didn't quite get the lanes open the way the want to see that happen which I will say is to be expected for an offensive line that has not had had a lot of time together. It's usually the running game that comes you know that takes time to develop as these guys get to know each other they learn which blocks each person's. GonNa make especially when you're talking about zone blocking scheme where guys have to know almost instinctively what the guy next to him is going to do with their blocks so that will probably get better as they get more time together but yeah. I was overall impressed with the offensive line and special credit to Jake Matthews who arguably set up the big touchdown run by Julio Jones at the end of the game by absolutely destroying that Philadelphia Delta Corner I mean he pancaked him and just Kinda sat on him so he he deserves special. Kudos for a a major. You're playing the game. Let's talk about some of the stars here because I want to start with the guy in the middle of the guy who I think some fans this our little frustrated with but at the same time you can't be too frustrated because he organized yet another fourth quarter drive and that's quarterback Back Matt Ryan. He finished the night with if you just look at the stats twenty seven to forty three three hundred twenty yards three touchdowns. I think thank you win over three hundred touchdowns for his career in this game so he is now on a very exclusive list in NFL history and yet he had those three interceptions. It was Liz yeah one of them you could maybe look at it and say okay. He was pressured and couldn't get a good throw off but the other two were sort of you know just inaccurate or poor decisions. So what do you make of Matt Ryan's night. Are you concerned. Do you think this is just a slow start by him. You what do you think's going on with with with the QB. I mean a couple of it seemed like he just was feeling pressure. Even if it wasn't really there maybe he was just kind of used to it but the like this so he had three interceptions the one hits the news like it would have been incomplete but some new hand hidden unabated up in the air was intercepted that way so I don't put that I mean it was a bathrobe out completely put that on him because it should have been incomplete and and then the one that Julio was just him for some reason thinking he had like amazing arm strength in could just gun it seventy arts downfield or something because it just floated in the air and I guess he had a lot of confidence that Julio was single covered in Egypt. Come Down with it but it it was really nowhere near being completion in the third one I believe was the one where his arm kind of guy hit but that's not the point because his Austin Hooper headlight triple covered news like you know if if awesome who present covered check it down or you know thrown Alabama's or something a lot of people pointed. Luke stocker was completely open just underneath so yeah yeah. It's just like it's more decision decision making He's a MVP so you gotTa Kinda give him the benefit of the Downton certain situations if he had like five interceptions in one touchdown I think I'd be freaking out a little bit more but three touchdowns three interceptions like interceptions happen Cartoon Carson wentz had two of his own in win straight to desma Tufan. That's tonight it was so it's like content really of go too hard on him. Although they did come in situations that's where it didn't help the Falcons because of like okay like the one to Bouillaud pretty much gave the eagles perfect field position because right they valk for folks who didn't watch it. Bosscher had had growing tightness. Oh he when he did punt. It was very bad. barely going over you know what was it thirty forty yards or something it just he just the field position game was getting lost by the pint game so him throw in that one pretty much helped the Eagle's even more in the one to hooper that I mentioned was in the red zone which could gave the Falcons a field goal. one is the new came. Remember exactly where that was but it's just like you know behind mm-hmm but yeah it was still on our territory yeah yeah so it's just like stopping drives but I mean like I said I don't put a lot into this game. The fact is we won so when you win a kind of masks over the negative stuff but you you just want to make better decisions because he's not you know from from our knowledge injured or anything. It just seems like it's decision making her forcing. Maybe it's too comfortable trying to force stuff but yeah I'm. I'm not too word. I think one of the things we've seen from Ryan in the past is when he has some instability on the offensive of line and some changes at offensive coordinator it takes him a little while to get going in the season in I think this'll this won't be as bad as maybe like two thousand fifteen where he was learning an entirely new playbook. I think this one is you know I think he's GonNa get back up to speed in the next couple of weeks. Maybe your here next next Sunday and I think some of it is having to do with you know sort of a a rotation of guys on the offensive line on the left outside the fine you know Jake Carpenter's been playing well obviously Alex in the in the middle but that rotation of guys he seeing on the right side. I think I think he's probably got him. You know hearing the footsteps a little bit more than he would normally so I think once there's some stability there and it looks like cable mcgarry settling into being a you know the the permanent start right tackle Jomaa Brown's GonNa be you know the permanent starter there for most of the year until Lindstrom can get back from injury. I really think that you know as he gets more time and get settled with these guys. He's GONNA settle into the season so like you said I'm not too worried about it. It's it's it's certainly not a great start for him but to his credit you know again they they came back. He has yet another fourth quarter comeback for the for the Falcons and it on that impressive fourth and three place so on that note. Let's talk about the receivers in before we go to Julio. I WanNa talk about the guy who I think. Arguably of the two receivers was the better of the two or at least more consistent throughout the game and that was Calvin Ridley mm Ridley finished the day with eight receptions one hundred five yards of course the big bomb touchdown thirty eight yard touchdown from Ryan Ryan looks for him. The same number of times he looked for Julio he pulled in three more catches five on the evening but Ridley really looked looked good and I mentioned this on twitter. He was explosive. He's when he puts it into that next year. He really has has like this. This top notch speed takes the top off of defenses and the fact that he's Ryan already getting comfortable Ryan with storing him in double coverage average a couple of times because he's beginning to trust Ridley in the way that he trust guys like Julio and and Austin Hooper so what do you make Geico of Ridley start to the season. He's I think he's really started these first two games pretty well yeah you know He. He's he was a guy. I really really liked going into the season for those that know me. I do more the fantasy stuff also and I said you know in my fantasy the article which came out on Friday before the game I really like not to toot my own horn here but I really liked Ridley going into it. Just because I knew the eagles you know they gave up the twelfth most fantasy points to wide receivers in week one against the Redskins twenty two thousand eighteen. They were bad and it's just like you're GonNa put all your attention on Julio which is obvious in Ridley's going to flourish because he's got the speed. He has the athlete. It's weird. He has like a second motor here where you know kind of like coolio but obviously just a little different because Julia is a freak but he's like Julio. Light where you gotTa you still got a cover him in. It's like we have all these weapons out there. It's incredible that you know I don't envy the defensive coordinator. Whoever we play because how you GonNa Stop Calvin Ridley to be so quick should've actually had two touchdowns but Ryan overthrew him in who else was it was was a him in hardy. I think Yeah Yeah Randomly Way Ryan had to deep bombs but also of 'em were just like a foot too far ahead I think with with Ridley the ball actually him in the hands so he had yeah he watched it just a little bit earlier and on hindsight it looked like he he probably could have pulled it in. It would be really difficult really difficult. Catch could have been slightly better emplacement placement but yeah it hit him in the in the fingertips so okay yeah but your point is definitely taken yeah no. I I just I think he's he's an incredible talent. He's definitely I think when we look back at that draft class if he isn't already he's he's the best receiver from that draft class in my opinion you know I like I know people talked up. Dj More and stuff like that but really you know it's we've been fortunate to go from Roddy White to Julio a Yo to Calvin Ridley. We just have some really good receivers but I really like him. I think he's very complementary to Julio Jones's game n even having Sununu out there. It's something to be excited. Balan definitely someone to keep an eye on yeah absolutely and like you said for for those who are fantasy participants who who love fantasy football if you played ridley you probably were very happy with what you saw on Sunday night on the other side of the field though was Julio Jones who had the opportunity to set the all-time Record Alzheimer's saving record in Falcons history passing roddy white and he up until the fourth quarter was falling short of that until the Falcons Elkins called a brilliant audible into the the infamous fourth in three wide receiver screen where credit to Mohammed Sununu who made his block well. Jake Matthews now is the father of the quarterback for the Eagles who he absolutely devastated and Julia of course ran it in for fifty three yards the touchdown he actually had another touchdown on the night so he has to on the evening five receptions one hundred six yards sets the all-time Falcons receiving record passing. You Falcons Legend Roddy White in the process. What more can we say about Julio this. Is this guy especially when you see the news about Antonio Brown's from the stomach coming out like it. What do you think Julio Means to this to this team into this offense while one more thing we can say about him is remember how he couldn't score touchdowns. Everybody wanted to bash him in stuff. He's I believe got six six straight games scoring touchdowns in the active or that what most active streak whatever you call it active leader active leader yeah so he's he's got the six game streak in everybody's gone silent on that front in its its glorious. He's got the most receiving touchdowns on the team this year. you know it's just like another. Julio Jones Year where he's going to go off in you know. You can't be more proud of him because it's like He. He's I've said it before. He has diva talent like He..

"Washington redskins. I'm w and i am joined today by one of our writers. There's and our photoshop aficionado our very own evan burchfield evan how're you doing. I'm doing great in as we started off the last few shows <hes>. I'd like to remind everyone that we glossed weld straight preseason games consecutively next week will be lucky number thirteen and so it's quite the record. Actually it's remarkable. We have to go by two thousand sixteen right to to get the last preseason win yeah. It's it's weird. I mean. I don't even think it gets a bad thing. It's just weird and it's i think a lot of fans will get hung up on it but preseason regular season starts. Nobody's care here next preseason. When we go for fourteen straight yeah. We have to lose the next one so we'll see backups do in week four but at this rate yeah thirteen straight losses seems seems like a distinct possibility so we're we're gonna talk about this third preseason game the quote unquote dress rehearsal game that many fans point to and say hey. This is the game where you know. The offense actually starts putting in some plays and they actually gain planned a little bit. I think some of that's overstated overstated. <hes> that used to be the case but i'm not sure it is as much the case in the n._f._l. These days <hes> the falcons went to this game. They did play a lot of starters but some key guys were out such as julio jones devante didn't play nearly as many snaps as the rest of the starters <hes> we had <hes> either smith taking the majority of snaps running back. Dion jones was still out <hes> so i think across the board you know there were some key guys that were missing but before we get into all well that i wanna talk about. I think what is arguably the hottest topic coming out of the game on thursday night and that is the performance of <unk> giorgio vecchio <hes> he had a correct me. If i'm wrong evan a thirty nine yard field goal attempt that he missed yet <hes> and and his extra point attempt was even though he made it looked like it barely made it through he is now a believe four of eight great in the preseason on field goals <hes> which is incredibly concerning and we sort of saw the chorus of fans last night <hes> ah basically universally saying it's it's time to move on it is time to find another kicker and of course the one name that many any fans immediately went to was bright and of course for those who don't know evan is one of the if not the biggest bryant fans in the world whose last name is not bryant bryant. We do not catch you. You're married to the man yeah does not count <hes> but at this point you know we are a few weeks away from the regular season evan. What do you you think i know. You've got some strong opinions but it is is to vecchio done is he. Is he cooked yes. He is well for now at least <unk> one of our other writers <hes> adnan. He brought up a good point. Actually i believe it was him. <hes> you know the buccaneers when they drafted data guadagno. Who in college was i mean you can make an argument. He was like the greatest kicker in college football history definitely modern college football history history in you see how he turned out. He lost his confidence and i don't even think he's league anymore. <hes> it can it happened that quick into right. That's such you know like we talked about on the last couple of shows. It's a mental game at that position in the second. You think you're done you. You really are done <hes>..

"On the alcoholics post game podcast for preseason week to atlanta hosting the new york jets so dave walker. I'm here with evan burchfield. <hes> we're going through the game. We've talked about the offense. We're going to talk about the defense now because i do think unlike the offense <hes> there were a few bright spots. I do on the highlight the fact that <hes> this is the first game since week three week four where we saw ricardo ellen in kiana neil both dressed in out on the field for for the first time so it was fantastic says he's them to see those guys out there. It was really encouraging. Obviously we want to see dionne jones out there as well but it looks like these guys you know they're obviously this was a game to get some the rust off. It was clear that in both guys were a little bit rusty <hes> but it was it. It was really exciting to see them back out there so evan. What were your thoughts to starting safeties back in actually playing playing in the n._f._l. In an n._f._l. Game it was great it just i think the biggest shock was when you see him walking out of the tunnel in uniform and you can see you know they show it <hes> before the game obviously unlike social digital media and stuff like that nec all suited up and ready to go and it's like i feel like it was just yesterday when you know they they all went down and it was just like soul-crushing soul-crushing so it's a good feeling to to know where you know a couple of weeks away from actually being like in real action being out on the field <hes> i'm looking forward to it really really good to see them back all right. Turn over you. What defensive player or players stood out to you in a positive way that that made a positive impression in this game yeah us out. The tyler davidson looked very good. There was one play specific where he basically like bob. Him weaved his way into the backfield. <hes> in i can do a justice so you'd have to just seen the video but he looked really good <hes> all of a sudden. It's like our defensive tackle..

"I am w and i'm joined today by one of our writers and the photoshop aficionado of talk of our very own evan burchfield evan how you doing. I'm doing great. We're on eleven game losing streak it. It's it's pretty. That's a pretty stunning statistic when you say out loud at this point. I don't even think it's a bad thing. It's just kinda like weird. It is it is is something else that's for sure eleven and honestly i think if we get twelve thirteen this could be shocking at all <hes> with with with these falcons so <hes> this past thursday night thursday august fifteenth the falcons hosted the new york jets in the technically the second preseason game. It was the third for the falcons since they did play in the hall of fame game to start off the entire n._f._l. Season this one was interesting and i think interesting interesting in a bad way for many people <hes>. Let's start with offense because i think that's what garner line of attention from from fans so <hes> evan just some quick thoughts on what you saw from the offense initially maybe that you didn't like seeing that you did like seeing just it's just a high level thoughts before we dive into some specifics. <hes> matt ryan looked great but also took way too many shots because he offensive garbage <hes> in he continuously took shots in for some reason. They left him out there when i don't know if they were just hoping the offensive tens of line was going to be like okay we see he's getting destroyed back year. Maybe we'll all of a sudden be better but he was thinking way too many shots <hes> even scrambled <hes> <hes> in god in god tackled from behind or whatever and that kind of like gave me that nervousness in my stomach like oh yeah this doesn't count <hes> but the offensive line terrible <hes> what i can remember off the top of my head tyson umbrella looked terrible <hes> west schweitzer there was was one <hes>.

"Subscribe to the virtuous wherever you get your podcast. Let's either we're back on the falcons alex post post game podcast. <hes> we're talking about atlanta versus miami the first preseason game of the two thousand eighteen season this is d._w._i. Back with evan burchfield whenever fantastic writers the foul <unk> dot com and we wanna talk about the defensive players who we saw that stood out in this game and evan l. about you but the first it's name that jumps out to mind came out of nowhere is austin larkin way data is going to say to say that the same china china for dramatic effect and your story yeah no. You're right though he did. He looked took fantastic and i'm gonna be honest with you. I know i knew nothing about him. <hes> in apparently looking at what everybody else was saying on twitter. Nobody really really knew anything about him. I'm sure there's one or two people listening you did by yellow really good it was it was shocking because <hes> i actually <hes> on on the twitter's i i message over to <hes> and you guys can go check on twitter. I asked jason but of the athletic. I was like have you ever. I heard of this guy like sincerely. Have you ever heard of austin larkin and in his response was other than seeing him get signed with the team. I haven't heard anything else also spelled him like this guy is completely under the radar and all of a sudden he shows up in the preseason and he all he does is register a sack back a tackle for loss six total tackles just looked like a player who's it was playing for his life and <hes> really impressed especially given that this was the first preseason game the stat line matched up with what we saw in the game like this guy was <hes> he led the team in tackles for the day had the sack the tax laws it was really we <hes> impressive and i'm not saying that you don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that austin. Larkin is going to be the next you know the pass rusher <hes> the next von miller. He's not going to be the next reggie white anything of that sort but you're not thought yeah. That's exactly right well. What i thought was what what i thought was cool to was. He was wearing possibly the ugliest. It's number for a pass rusher sixty-two like he he was smashing everything out of the park like nobody expected from him. He was wearing like the worst number you could possibly we'd be wearing. It was a great night for larkin and everyone's going to take notice now. I would imagine yeah and i think that's that's. The great thing about the preseason is you've got got these random names that suddenly pop up on you know the stat sheets and you're like who is austin larkin and arguably for for fans this who paid attention who watched the first preseason game this now has become a become a name that falcons fans are gonna have to pay attention to like people are going to be watching the practice reports did austin larkin standout practices week..

"Enjoyment fans are paying good money to enjoy the team. And we go into that knowing that we're not gonna enjoy every second of it. Because it sports that's the way that it works. But I wanna know that the team that I'm investing my money is actually the least important part. It's my time and my emotional energy, which is limited because I'm a dull, I'm an adult human with a job and a family, unlike a bunch of shit going on and so if I'm investing my emotional chain this team, I want them to at least try like just try. I don't. Yeah. I do not at all subscribe to the idea that you can take as a professional sports team. I think that that's terrible. And wrong. And that's probably because I will never have a membership to draft. Like, I'd I will never be a part of that group. The civil I have a very different view on it. But yeah, no, I think that you play to win the game. And I think that that is a universal truth about professional sports. And I don't think that you take. I mean, that's a completely absurd ideas me, I probably just sounded like the oldest old lady and the world like pull your. Your straps kid. Do you feel about their kids on your? On. Up. "Dogma Hollick year and par a happy new year to you as we are about to celebrate or are celebrating the new year nail in the sky gets uploaded. Welcome to the Hollick post game podcast. I'm your host court Woodruff, and you know, New Year's new beginnings. And we are saying goodbye to a falcon season two thousand eighteen is in the books putting this on the shelf, and now swear, and we are, you know, preparing to get to a point where we can look ahead and try to be optimistic for the future. If you know me, and you know, this podcast, you know, that's the brand here. We really do try to be optimistic and try to look for that silver lining wherever we can find it. And you know, it's just one of the difficult things about a bad season as that you can kind of get a bit dismayed in the discord. But you know, shut my friends. Let's try to look ahead to the future. And we've got plenty to talk about. In that regard. And I enjoyed the course by none other than Evan burchfield of the Hollick Evan. Thank you so much for joining us and how're you doing as we transitioned into those nineteen. Thanks for having me on again, Corey doing great hope everyone has a happy new year and starts off the year. Right. And yeah, let's talk about this Alcan's in books finale. Yes. A game that they were once down seventeen zero and one which is a very non falcon thing to happen. Usually we don't have big comebacks against teams like this. But usually what happens the other way around were up by a lot. And we end up, you know, throwing the lead in the trash can. But I think that there is a lot that you can look at the scheme and the optimist about the be able to think after a really tough season finish it on a strong note. And it didn't drop them a lot in the traff rankings. So they might miss out on you guys because they were able to win this game from where they originally were. But sometimes it's hard to control that and you have to take it. How it comes so Evan? We're a couple of things you saw on Sunday that made you feel. All the mystic for the future. I think like what you said about the comeback. It's not something where used to where usually on the other end of blowing the lead, obviously. But I mean, you pretty much Saul Matt Ryan have you know, you had a pretty good game. Yet is I ever I think I read somewhere that was the first ever quarterback reception per touchdown or whatever for the falcons or in south consistory, or whatever. So that was pretty cool to see Julio was, you know, back to his normal self like he's been doing all year. So that's pretty exciting. And then he, you know, finished off the year as the with the most reception yards this season, the whole NFL. So I mean, the offense is cranking, and you know, defenses whatever, but it was the bucks and it was the final game. And it's you know, it's hard to really put a lot of stock in anything. But it was. A good. It was a good win. And I love how it ended with Matt Bryant kicking the win the game against the team that he spent you know, decent portion of his career with. Yeah. It was good ending to the season. Even though there's no playoffs or anything. It was. It was a great send off I think into twenty nineteen. Yeah. I think those are good points. You bring up Matt Bryant. And I do wanna talk about him just for a second. He's still on contract with the team next year. He was very very reliable all season. The only missed one field goal that was a belief from like fifty seven out didn't go in or not think he made that one. There was another is another long field goal where they just he just didn't have the distance on it because of his kind of his ailment with his leg..

"But if you were running things would you make the move on? If you could only pick one to fire would it be to replace? I should say offense coordinator defense coordinator, special teams. Oh, if you only can make move one. Offense coordinator because I just think it's sarcasm ceiling. And I think that will just kind of is what he is. But I think he's about I think he'd be a wonderful college coach because what he does well fits more the college game, adding he would be working with warms back in that community about the same time. I just don't know exactly if he can be in the league, play caller. And I think that you should always the best talent at this type of job. So I would probably say Saric because I'm I'm not against Manuel coming back because I think that if they did that Quinn would take over play calling. But you know, if he doesn't want to go the play calling I probably switch them both out. But you know, it's just it's difficult. But with this team, you just can't accept being almost good enough. You know, they started their just out of the windows to short. So I would try to get as much out of I can with this roster may be some fresh ideas really team could use a little bit of a refresher for coach standpoint. Because the pieces were there. I mean, we all know. That they all they outside of some trench work. They've got the pieces they need. I think that right now they relating to focus on maximizing the coaching that has. So I think that's it man. I think we've yeah. No. I don't want to spoil our Christmas too much without talk. Do it though we've got other christmasy thing about now evidently one more week of. Heading down to the bay area. Not well not that bay area. The other Tampa Bay the. Yeah. Area Florida to see if they can in the season with a win or head to six and ten we're rhyming Evan. Thank you so much for coming on always. And let it by they combined social media, which we're not. Yeah. I pre- sheet you have me on. And you know, you've done a great job with the post game this year. "evan burchfield" Discussed on The Falcoholic

"Gentlemen. Welcome to another fine. Addition of the post game podcast. My name is Corey Woodruff. Thanks for stopping by. The falcons are terrible. Unfortunately, at seems to be the case and falcon the now is the team stands at a very unsatisfying for an eight after quite a tumultuous year with injuries poor coaching even worse play and lots of annoying losses, which piled up the team has lost four straight. And they're trying to figure out exactly what's going on. What's working what's not working? And really what in the world. They're going to do as the last four games of the year began to enter as we get into December. So I'm joined by no stranger to the show. He's a good friend of mine a wonderful person to hear from with anything falcons related and the biggest Jack Crawford fan out. There has name is Evan burchfield. He's joining us today. Evan. Thank you so much for coming on. I appreciate having me on core. Yeah. We are always happy to have been on the show, and we'll have a special little of news about Evan. When we get done the recording this one, but you know, let's just get into this Baltimore game as much as we can. You know, what what to you Evan? Did you see about this game that really kind of showed exactly where this team is right now? I mean, everything was too bad like everything offense of line. Play was bad. The falcons run game was bad. Julio Jones was bad. Maybe not all his fault. But I mean two receptions for eighteen yards is not normally the production. You get from Leo Jones. Mahama's new had his first ever incompletion passing completion. So that pretty much sums it up. Yeah. I think that's just kind of the difficult part of where we are. Right now is that this team is an very languished place. They've just not exactly the naval to overcome lot of these injuries. And they've really kind of compiled down with really poor defensive play. And the offense really was good for half a season. And then in the month of November. They kinda began to taper out a little bit too that Washington game. And they've really just not been great. Honestly, the last couple of games, and it's been really kind of disconcerting to see them. Take such a sizable step back offensively under such a promising stretched there in September October in into that Washington game. But you know, I think right now, this is just a team that doesn't really have a spark. They don't really have just any sort of momentum going for them. And when you're working with little momentum. You're going to have little success..
