"With their number four pick in the first round of the twenty twenty one. Nfl draft which is right around the corner joining me on this journey to talk about the options. The falcons have is my co host from the post game podcast during the season. The one and only evan burchfield evan. Thanks for being here for having me t w looking forward to it. Yeah today. we're going to talk about this number. Four pick and it. I guess you could say using it or not using it. We're gonna talk about the option of trading it away and obviously during the thomas dmitrov era. We were used to the first round being a time where he would trade up. He did it several times in his time. As the gm of the falcons obviously with terry no We are in a new era. Things could be different and believe it or not You do as a team have the ability to trade back as well. Though falcons fans haven't experienced that in the first round for a very long time. So i wanted to talk about these two options. Evan because i feel like you know last time we talked about drafting a quarterback the pros and cons and matt ryan age etcetera. I think you in this scenario. And i want to talk about maybe the more controversial. These two options. I that's trading up. Obviously the falcons are number four. There's only so many spots to go now. We have three teams in front of us. We've got jacksonville number. One you've got the jets and number two and you have miami at number three so let's start with the idea of trading up Obviously i don't think it makes sense to trade up with miami like why are you moving up one spot unless you're trying to jump in front of potential trade you think is going to happen In my mind if the falcons were going to trade up it's either going to be to number two number one and if you're going up to number one. I think there's only one player that you're you're basically making that big of a move for and that's got to be the number one player in this draft class trevor lawrence. You're you want the best quarterback in class. So i want to get your thoughts on just the idea of trading up when you're at number four to begin with what do you think about it. You think it would be way too aggressive. Move for known his first his first move in the draft is a general manager. It'd be a lot of pressure. i mean. This is first time as you mentioned that. The general manager into make a move up to one Even though four isn't like a insane drop for what what were the jaguars would go if they did you know. Make a move within lena. But that's still would be like such a highly coveted pick. The falcons would be giving up a ton of future picks First rounder yeah Because you know. Trevor lawrence There's probably like a couple of people you'll see on twitter and stuff who have like like wilson ahead of lawrence and stuff But lawrence is a guy in this draft At the quarterback position specifically A lot of experts Seem as a guy who can be the next. You know matt ryan as we're familiar with like the quarterback not. I'm not saying they're the same quarterback i'm saying the guy you can have for over a decade. Who has your team. You know in position to win. Football games He's the franchise quarterback that all teams dream of having a lot of teams fail getting So if the falcons didn't make a move it would have to be the one to get warns. There's no reason to unless they feel like Wilson or fields. Or whoever's going to go and that's you know that's their guys like they prefer him Even then you're still. You're still going to be giving a picks the problem with the top. Four and moving up is that those picks are going to have Life say like the jets and number two pretend lawrence went to the jan at who you're still going to have a lot of competition The jets are gonna look more south than go. Oh well we only have to fall two picks but at the same time. The falcons aren't going to offer as much as i mean. Let's pretend like a team like the lions wanting to go up from seven That's more of a drop. I mean there's a lot of teams you know this year. That need quarterbacks i could see teams like At fourteen and fifteen the vikings and patriots you know they their teams. That could need a quarterback so you know it just depends on the compensation at that point but Teams to your question. I don't the falcons moving up unless it's for lawrence and at that point fonteneau is like literally throwing all the pressure on himself because if that busted and let's pretend they had to give up a first round pick next year and who knows what else That's something that can hold the franchise back you know when they're in a position of trying to transition Not a complete rebuild but at least the transition to what the future's look like. Yeah and he would. He end the arthur smith with one hundred percent. Be hitching their wagons to that quarterback prospect for sure and to be honest. I think any quarterback if they draft a quarterback in the first round there hitching their wagons to whoever that is they draft. Because obviously they're saying. Hey this is the future beyond matt ryan now whether it's trevor lawrence or wilson or fields or whoever they will you know using a first round. Pick and a quarterback is them. Saying we're we're hitching are into the sky Come hell or high water. If you're moving up to one to take a quarterback that pressure also on that quarterback because there's that does it work out. Yeah and and honestly you know if if you moved up and you grabbed a quarterback it's going to be insanely hard not to put him on the field in twenty twenty one. You can make a case that a guy number four You know one of the other Two or three options that people consider to be a first round value in the quarterback position. You could make the case for sitting. Someone like wilson fields or lance trae lance on the bench per year behind matt ryan that that is not a difficult case to make. But if you move up to get your guy that is going to be very very hard to to sign off on him sitting For a year behind matt ryan. And we've all you know we've talked about this on the site. There's no way. The falcons are able to move matt ryan. The the cap is often. allow it. it's just not doable. Move this year. Twenty twenty two going to be the first year they could move on from him But yeah if they grab a quarterback in move up for him. It's going to put a ton of pressure on the gm like you said it's a pressure on that player like you know. Hey we moved up to get you better perform and also gonna put pressure on organization to put him on the field immediately. That said you know. I have seen. There've been some mock drafts evan. That have had the falcons moving up to like one of them had them trading up to three which was in my mind just crazy move but we have seen a couple that have had them trading until number two to go grab a justin fields to make sure that they get their quarterback. I guess in that situation the thinking is they wanna make sure they get the quarterback. They like in not run the risk that the jets were the dolphins trade. Back in The falcons watch team jump in front of them to get that quarterback so it may not even be you know in the trade up scenario..

"On espn action podcast. That i'm dave walker. And i am joined by my partner in crime. Evan burchfield evan. How are you. Well the falcons are facially eliminated from making the playoffs. So oh it's official. Yeah it's a. i mean. It was official in week five. But it's official official now like they have it you know. There's no shot for them to make the playoffs like they're eliminated. So i mean that's always fun in now. All hope is gone so we can kind of. Pretend there's a chance anymore because it's over yes. It is one hundred percent over. I guess there is some comfort in that. Of course we are here to talk about. The falcons lost today in the was this week. Thirteen week fourteen. fourteen fourteen. They did lose on the road to the chargers who many people have called the falcons of the afc west and they lost in the only fashion. That would make sense when you pit. The falcons against another falcons team they last lost in the last twenty seventeen. I think what's notable about this game. If you guys want to know the overall story this one is the firing up. All the matt ryan talk because he had arguably one of his worst games of the season In it's funny. 'cause evans you and i were saying talking before the podcast in the year where fans have universally agreed there. Cutter is a major major issue needs to be gone. He has a problem with this offense In a game where matt ryan was missing. Julio jones and two of his starting offensive linemen He still takes the blame people. Use this as proof that matt ryan done. They need to move on And to be clear. I do think the two interceptions at the end of the game were absolutely matt ryan. I don't think there's any doubt about that. So you could definitely make a very strong case. This game is on his shoulders But it has already fired up the talk. Because if there's one thing you and i have learned about falcons fans there is no middle ground. Here's knows singing. That matt ryan had a bad game in that. Be it it. It has to turn into matt. Ryan had the game. Because he is sucked. He's always sucked. He was terrible from two thousand eight until now are you guys are stupid for everything. He was a good quarterback like that's the response tend to get and that. That's what i. I personally can't handle it. My blood pressure can't handle this types of conversations anymore So what's your take on the game. What's your take away from this insane loss that we saw well you know it was the turnovers. I think when when.

"You have to do it. It makes a lot of sense definitely also joining us now with his traditional late cameo. Evan Burchfield Evan how you a man? Oh I'm doing great. How are you? Just great you know yeah, I'm really into this. You know it's thanks season. Yeah. We're talking draft talk now but I do want to give you a chance to get your thoughts in here on this game. Obviously embarrassing but. Yeah who do you blame I guess 'cause we throw the blame around between Dirk. Koetter and the defense. So where do you stand on that one? I mean it's not a popular take but for all but two minutes of that game you know I thought the defense did really well, I even tweeted it and I kind of blame myself because I'm probably Jesus. But I was saying how the Lions have scored twenty one plus in every game this season and at that point, it was a still. Yeah now they knew. At that point it's like it was six sixteen to fourteen You know and it's just it's tough to blame like I'm not. GonNa Blame. Todd. Gurley I mean Brandt. Yeah. He clearly knew the fall down because he tried to at the last second. Well, what was Kudos to the lions was that defender kind of cleaned on and if you watch, he let go like he he didn't like break the tackle like the lions. Defender I forgot who is was but like Oh when girly ended up, you know it's just What I'm tired of is this team. If you'RE GONNA, lose lose, don't do it in like. Dumb ass fashion right to hear about it the rest the normally. Yeah. Yeah. Thank goodness. We play at one o'clock game. This week is that we don't have to hear it. You know. Thursday. Night football like. It's just exhausting and it's like at this point, you can't even be mad because it's you kind of expect it like I'm Kinda like you know what I wanna see if they're capable of doing this again in they did they're always capable. Yeah I it's it's like. The Way I'm looking at. It though is right now it sucks in. We're kind of pissed off in. You know we're all like that's fine but come April. Talking about the difference of pick five. You know or Oh, we beat the lions. So we're pickle. Evan like we're we would regret that right is that safe to say oh. Yeah. We were talking about earlier being the hero. Yeah. He's the hero that preserved the tank so good on you. The forty niners game in the bucks game all over again brass year. Yeah. So I mean they they lost. So now we're one in six. The other argument I would say is for people I mean last game it was kind of natural to kind of get a little more optimistic I guess but everybody still here the only people we got rid of was Dmitrov who had you know he wasn't involving gain planning stuff Indian Quinn who was pretty much doing the press conferences but everybody else is still here in Quin wasn't calling defensive or offensive place he might have been involved in the defensive game plan, but it's not like he was you know do third in twelve runs and stuff right occurs ear. Yeah. So why should we expect this team to like be competent all of a sudden like You know and we're not even halfway there spent three Terrible embarrassing losses at the halfway point this year. Brennan. The bears now this. Plenty of time to make some more memories. Of the potential. Yeah, and I mean to point as I was like coming home I got this bleacher report notification. Falcons collapsed. Yeah it wasn't even that up. It wasn't dad epic. Yeah. We only love by seven. Where have you been all? They've collapsed so many times now that the the suspense just dairy more you know it's like it's like we're just expecting it at this. What we had a ninety nine percent chance to win two games this year that we lost. Yeah I've just been ninety four or whatever we had. That's like child's play. Yeah. We just we just assume they're gonNA blow that lead but. Yeah. I mean this game probably puts the nail in the coffin for Ricky. Morris's chances coaching this team next year. I think people were probably getting a little too optimistic about this team after a victory over a truly bad vikings team. It's probably also GONNA be cleaning house. It's one of those games where it's one of those situations where you have. A new interim head coach comes into the building and takes over your new voice, and then the team rallies not burst game. And you know as they rally, they put on a great performance and you're wondering Oh like could this be a turning point like? No, it's. Likings is the vikings were not salute shell of what they were the past year. This is not the same vikings team that's routinely been disposing of the saints in the playoffs. The past few years like Everson Griffen is in their limbaugh Joseph. DANNEAL HUNTER ISN'T THERE this savior road who was an absolute monster few years ago wasn't really that great last year he's not good. Now he's great in Indianapolis. quarterback in the League right now but. Yeah I mean like come on it's like the Vikings, seem as one of the few teams that are worse than us. They're they're not good. They're Delvin Cook wasn't even playing playing like you should not be staking your like confidence in the same on a whole we the Minnesota Vikings the one in l. year brother. We got up on them well to ask you know not having Alvin Cook huge because Alexander Madison struggled even this week. The lions running backs were tremendous. I know swift ended up scoring but Mall Stat. roughing passer. I'm sure did you guys talk about that? Did it was bogus? It was definitely book that lifted bad taste in my mouth, but then you know, of course, other things happened so. Mike Pereira coming in defending you love his feet like Oh yeah. Like slightly Matt Stafford six inches taller than what the hell do you want him to in Stafford froze to your like he ran up and then just stop I don't know what else you're supposed to do tiny hard enough to play defense in the NFL you're expecting them to like even mentioned he should've hit him lowered but then that's another flag. On him yeah. Like what do you? WanNa draft wasn't even expecting the fog. He was like he just popped up and was ready to get off the field. Am It's just bizarre. That's the problem like, yes they need to protect quarterback Siesta need to protect players from defenseless hits, but it's possible to go too far like we need to flag the. Stuff. That was allowed to happen for too long everyone agrees on that. But now it's like well, we need to have this very specific wording so whether it's a flag or not no, we don't like you can use your eyes to know if something is agreed. You you don't need to have this incredibly detailed six sentence explanation of why something is or isn't roughing the passer like it's something that you just know it when you see it and unfortunately we've gone too far in the other direction..

"Live live on Youtube at eight, ten PM Eastern on Wednesday nights, and if you're interested, we also have a post game show that goes live right after the Games on Sunday or whatever date happens to be played. So we hope you enjoy this episode and we hope to see you on Youtube if you're available thank you and enjoy the show. Fellow Alcohol Ix. What is up welcome to episode one sixteen of the Hollick live. I am your host Kevin Alcoholic Kevin on twitter joined by my co host. This evening Evan Burchfield at the very easy to remember at Evan Burchfield Evan how're you doing tonight? I'm good of got the window open. It's a nice night Yeah. Just excited to talk you know more about this upcoming game in. Maybe, top a little bit about last week. Yeah Yeah. So Nice Night Florida. Does that mean it's only like ninety three or? Probably decent right like seventies maybe last night it was seventy one right now, which for Florida, and living near the beach is like it's even a little colder than that but. Can't complain Seventies in September and Florida that that's that's a rare sight. So got enjoy that lot got enjoy that but walk into tomorrow probably. Probably just back to normal welcome welcome everyone Todd Nielsen Sedan Emery Vlad Tyler Rain Solaire all you guys tie Russell. Thanks for Tuning in folks already at some good stuff. Tonight we should have some other folks joining us as their time permits. Perhaps, you know most folks have had their souls crushed by the Falcons. So they need a little bit of time to recover so I I understand that you know I'm contractually obligated to deliver takes every week at this time. So there's no escape for me but for others I don't necessarily blame them but. We're talk week three little bit. Talk about that disaster talk about the upcoming disaster of Monday night football and four and. Getting some more like a Meta conversation about whether the season's already over for the Falcons probably is for being honest but. Lower. We'll get to that we'll get to that are obviously if you guys have questions hit at Alchoholic in the Youtube chat highlighted for me, make it a little easier to see. We will try to get to as many of those as we can. So Evan I. Know You were here briefly for the post game, you got a few words in anything about that game stand out to you now after having a little bit more time to kind of absorb process it. Just the Nick foles effect. He came in you know I know we had the one interception, but realistically, that was that was the dinard in Allen Robinson contested catch where you know that's not on Nick foles. He gave Allen. Robinson. A chance to win coming to make the catch and it got intercepted so. You look at that I mean. Matt Nagy Kudos to him like you're to know Yank Mitch. Trubisky if they would have lost that game to the Falcons I don't think it would have been just oh, trubisky's terrible. It's just they lost the Falcons but yanked trubisky brought nick foles in. They, never turn back that passing game changed Yeah you know unfortunately they came back twenty six to ten just like the cowboys did. Yeah. It's it's tough but like at this point I think what's interesting is. I know I can't speak for other people covering the Falcons for other sites and stuff but everybody at our site is pretty much in step with the fans where we're just kinda like overall this. Bullshit basically and The moves got to be made eventually maybe ill take the packers game maybe it'll take you know the panthers the following week but the gotTa be near for Dan Quinn. Yeah I mean for us. It's sad because we wanted the end to be near last year in the team kind of explicable. You decided you know what? Let's run it back again and see if we get a different result third time and low and behold the result was the same the third time. And that just really stings. When when we as as you know I like to think of ourselves pretty smart football observers but we're not getting paid. You know whatever the gym whatever Thomas Dimitrov getting paid probably millions of dollars a year to to make these decisions and we're making a smarter than them whenever that happens, it tends to produce a strong reaction from the public so. These. Are Not things that were difficult to see. These are not things that were particularly questionable. So there has to be some sort of reasoning behind. Why we didn't see the Falcons, make the necessary moves when they needed to And it's it's frustrating for us as fans of the team who want to succeed see the dwell to see the team not squander the final years of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. And to see them. Basically stick to what we know is a losing strategy with Dan Quinn and Dirk cutter like this is not a match that's ever produced results. And you know we saw. Danquah and Steve Sarkisian at least there was the upside of that playoff season. And they got a playoff win and then they had an injury ravaged two, thousand eighteen, and then you know scapegoated Sark for two thousand eighteen which wasn't really necessary to fire the coordinators after two, thousand, eighteen, it was kind of weird move And then. You. Know I I just wanted to not that he doesn't watch this show probably by Casey does young week who it's like I was Kinda hard on him when I jumped on post game as you mentioned. But at the time I didn't know he had a pulled groin or whatever he's on I are with is obviously your kicker and you know on it. But honestly, if he had that going on, they should've let. hoffer victor do the kicking deer. Kick on your your you. You're up there. You know the Syracuse guys Why not especially after he missed the extra point, if you knew, he had a growing injury that he eventually goes on I r You know. You're talking about the difference in going into overtime again, not that it mattered because they would have found a way to blow up, blow it in overtime but the four points that were left on the board you know from the Viole I think it was like forty yards or something which if you've got a pulled groin, that's you know that's a difficult. in an extra point That's that's overtime right there ray. NANCE. Yeah. So I mean I don't know the specifics. Maybe the coaching staff wasn't fully aware of it. I don't know. But if he has a pulled groin and people know about it, they should have some. Contingency plan for that sort of situation I mean. That's that's that was one of the reasons why hotter smart pick is because he can't kick field goals he was three or four college including a fifty two yarder. Someone that can kick I mean I. Don't think you want him as your permanent kicker, but does he have pinch like? Know, why not? Yeah. Especially, if you watch Mr Misa extra point, why would you think he's GonNa nail a forty yarder long for us is like fifty or fifty one. Yeah. So that that was a questionable decision. Obviously. We have our second guest joining us now Corey Woodruff also known as the Falcons movie correspondent at Corey which for center. Corey how are you doing today? I'm good. You know we just we just torture ourselves that we. are in the world has been all this time Labor of yeah we were saying you know, maybe we get everyone else's you know to depleted from the first three weeks the first two weeks of covering three weeks of covering his team..

"During the season he is my co host on the post game. Podcast is one of variety at the site. I'm talking of course. Evan Burchfield Evan. How are you doing man? I'm doing great. I'm ready to just talk about myself and be selfish here. Yes obviously this is all about getting to know the people who make up the Hollick DOT COM and make this podcast. You're a critical component of that. So let's jump into it first of all. Obviously I question Aid You Falcons Fan. And when did that happen so to summarize it because I could literally tells the story all day I was born in western North Carolina near Ashville. Which is the main city there And growing up before the Carolina Panthers came in there in Ninety five me and my Dad. went to Atlanta because it was actually about the same distance in my dad has is a lifelong Minnesota Vikings Fan since he was a kid. Mom because in he'd explain to me back then they didn't have you know today's youth in don't They think it's you. See All these different teams in stuff on TV all the time. And that's not how it was the main teams back. Then where you'd see the Dallas cowboys on Monday night football or whatever the same Cisco Forty niners packers. Whatever debt in the Vikings being one of them In it was the time of the Purple People Eaters. Or whatever ninety ways. He's he's a diehard vikings fan in the Vikings in nineteen ninety six. I was actually six years old Where playing in Atlanta so we went down in its Two two and a half hour drive so we went down to Atlanta Georgia. Dome and I I mean I was only six so unfortunately like I don't remember a whole lot of the game. I know the Falcons did of course lose the game Seventeen to twenty three I think tomorrow Anderson was on the roster I don't think June Jones might have been the coach Aside from that I mean. That's all obviously stuff. I looked at after like I was a kid in. The nose bleeds. Like I don't remember anything about the game. Got Some pictures from it and stuff like that but he took me. You know thinking I would become Minnesota Vikings fan like him. I don't know if it was the black jerseys black helmet just the coolest they had or because they were the home team but ever since that moment I've been you could say unhealthily obsessed with being a fan. It's life I think the Falcons I this point is living an unhealthy. Life are so long you got started early. So what is one of your earliest memories? And obviously as Falcons fan it could be a fog gallery or obviously be a very non positive memory. What's your earliest memories watching this team I mean when I think back to obviously like the dirty dancing Jamal Anderson like I I remember you know when you're older and you can look back like you're you realize yeah. He wasn't the best running back that ever lived but when I was young I thought he was God on off-field leg of the way he was his big dude who could You know and they even look bigger back then because in today's football they have. Everything's tighter the uniforms. Tighter shoulder pads on its big back. Then it was bulky in. He had a big shoulder pants. He had that face. Macs with the little. I don't know what it is but it's like old school little horn or whatever like the little U. shape thing In I just thought he was like amazing so doing the dirty bird eventually going on to the NFC championship against my dad's team. Obviously but in the Super Bowl but That I loved Tim to White I just I just remember being in North Carolina Even though we were so close it was rare. That like a rarity to be a falcons fan or see Falcons fans in anytime you did. It was like this big thing 'cause I mean it wasn't like you see how you go to the store and see like the cowboys had or something even today. I guess you could say it's the same but It was almost like a honor. Like self honor where it's like. Wow you know. I'm the Falcons Fan. This is unique. There's not a lot out there but then eventually you get on twitter and you're like oh there's a ton of yeah but when you're back in the days of Social Media. I didn't know any falcons fans. Yeah it's It's interesting you you'd think for a team like the Falcons which doesn't have the broad appeal like you mentioned the cowboys or forty niners. It does seem like regionally for a period of time. The Falcons were very popular with fans in other states. I I know someone that lives in Winston Salem North Carolina. Who is still to this day? A Hardcore Falcons Fan. Even after the panthers came in. Yeah because originally there were the only team really for him to to root for so. Yeah and here's a here's a fun fact. You know it the Falcons. It's like that first game I went to. That's the only home game I've ever been to. I've been to probably ten or more away games. You know in Florida where I live in. I am into a home a home game since. Yeah it's actually something that's relatively true for several of our writers at the Alchoholic Dot Com including our made editor. Dave coates lives in the northeast. We will not pinpoint his location for those who would stock him but moving on. We're here to talk about Evan number three. When did you start actually writing about this team and in what drove you to actually write about Instead of just simply being fan well for me. It started with twitter Which is basically writing. You're just not writing a long article you know you just put up your thoughts during games or after games. Whatever in early Are Corey Woodrow Foods with the Foul Golic? Now he was with risa breeder And you know I got to know corean stuff and I went onto right there for I think like a season I think the twenty seventeen season In Corey obviously came to the Falco Hollick and already knew pretty much all of the writers anyways just through twitter and stuff But I got an opportunity to write for the Falcon Holly in I've been doing that since Twenty November twenty eight team so It's it's I I enjoy it. It's fun to know that people are reading your stuff in some disagree in some degree in just being able to share your thoughts with people. You know even this kind of stuff where people want to listen to my background like. That's an incredible thing I will say for those listening if you're looking to interact with alcohol and its various writers twitter's absolutely under percent the place to do it. Most of us have very significant Twitter presences and Evan is no exception. I exception exceptions so and it's not just football. We'll talk to you about anything. Oh really yeah. I think if you're just looking to get to know the people who also enjoy watching the Falcons get tortured by team. Twitter's the place to do it All right so not. You've been writing about the team for a couple of years. You've been on twitter. You've been at the alcoholic What is one of the worst takes where you look bagging? Fake Oh man a wish. Take those words back because Sarong I I mean the ones that instantly come to mind. I remember being like amped when we signed Ray Edwards. Probably like we'll unease too easy one where like a lot of people share that same opinion but I remember just the excitement like I remember. I told you where I was like I was. I was working at Sports Authority in college and I was like. I went to the restroom to read it. You know and I'm like Oh my God we side Ray Edwards. 'cause I think the eagles were the other team. That was like rumored to be interested in. I thought Oh this is gonNA change stuff. Obviously that fell flat on the other. One is more recent I guess In another easy one but miles jack I remember wanting him in when the Falcons passed on. Komo Neil like like. I didn't have anything negative to say about Neil but I was like what is wrong with this team like war. Why would you pass on Miles Jack? Like he fell into your lap. But you know I guess both of them in hindsight have Kinda had some injuries like So but I mean when Kiana kneels on the field. He's incredible so yeah. I write that up as a self Where state you were alone. In absolutely Ray Edwards was all many of us are always many of us. Were in that boat. So Yeah. The former underwear model did not workout for On the flip side one of your best takes. Maybe you saw player. He thought okay. This guy is and I'm a fan of him and and other people were aboard or someone that early on you thought they were going to pan out and it turned out that they did. Well if you follow me on twitter My most infamous one is probably the Giorgio. Takeo Oh no where like. Everyone was grilled me for but I didn't think he proved enough to keep him and I know he went like eight for eight. In what would that have been twenty twenty eighteen from the team He went like eight for eight He you know he did have a great. He did a great job but I thought it was. Bizarre that Falcon just handed him the Job In we're kind of in that same situation now Where the Falcons haven't brought any competition yet in for Cou. I mean they probably will because there's still a lot of time between now and Preseason but yeah that would probably be one of my better takes because I was in I spent like the whole off-season like why are you just giving this man the job? Then they eventually bring Blair Walsh who was like the King of choking on big kicks like it was like they just doubled down on it and then eventually Matt. Brian came back. But in all die on the hill that it was the place holding a having a rotation of hunters last year that really ruined it for Matt. Bryant's return That's probably another argument for another day. Yeah probably so I will say I do want to remind our readers listeners that it was Evan in not the national writers that broke the News Matt Bryant Being Adam Schefter and Ian rapoport steal my source it is also I wanNA give a shout out to Jack Crawford member. There was at one year. Yeah where like he was coming off the Think it was a torn triceps. It was like something on his arm. in like I was saying he's you know he's gone in for a big year he actually did have a career year any finish like tied for second in Sacks L. Probably me my other some weird best tanks. I will say I like Jack Crawford. Lot for being Just a quality player that Falcons didn't have to spend a lot of money on so yeah and I've got I've gotten to know him personally and he. He really is a genuine Full like a quality person. You know you hear these stories of some of these guys were just like jerks. They liked the fame. Go to their head in just being in the league but he he really is a nice to now. He's in Tennessee. Yeah as as many falcons are.

"I'm joined by my co host. The one and only Gina Matt Thomas Gene. How are you doing? I'm doing great. Thanks really good. After this draft weekend feels like for once the falcons did not completely side rails. Which is what we're here to talk about and today we're joined by two of our riders to the guys who have helped the site tremendously over the incredibly busy weekend First and foremost Eric Robinson who is one of our draft experts when a guy who has been cranking out content about these young players that are coming into the Falcons Organization. Eric how you doing. I'm doing pretty good excellent and joining him In us is My partner in crime for the post game podcast. And we're talking about the winning. Only Evan Burchfield Evan. How you doing man? I'm doing great I enjoy the lead. The lead up to the draft but the smoke being cleared and we all have to deal with the rumors and stuff has kind of Nice. Oh it's so nice to be out of smokescreen yes season. That's for sure so we've already talked about on the podcast. We talked about our first round pick. Aj trail and we're going to have additional podcasts. In the future diving deeper into each of our draft picks. But today we're going to talk about the guys who were selected in days two and three and that includes rounds two through seven. So for the Falcons. They had a second round pick around pick two picks in the fourth round in a seventh round. Pick so do some trades smoller earlier stuff. That happened They did not have picks in the fifth in six rounds in this draft class But let's start at the very top and that is the round to pick. I think coming into this. Pick a lot of falcons fans myself included. Were Hoping Falcons would spend that pick either at linebacker or on the defensive line either defensive edge defensive tackle sort of interchangeable between the two and what we got was one of those suit. We Got Defensive. Tackle Marlon Davidson Auburn. And let me say he is. Now my favorite Falcons player of all time ever because of the MIT. This man knows how to give quotes. He is loaded with GINA. We had shared some of those quotes in our writers chat and The video of him saying some of the things he did. What are your thoughts on this player? Some of his notable quotes during the combine enduring interviews in just general his fifth for the team. I I yeah I just love the peck. I'm immediately after the pick. A alchoholic reader. A you know fellow falcons fan and a friend who went to Auburn lives in Auburn Lindsay. Crosby he tweeted me that he was just to be a quote machine and so much fun to cover and So then the first thing that I saw was A guy who covers the bucks tweeted a video from the combine where he said that his favorite thing about football is being able to just absolutely destroy people and nobody calls the cops and I was like. Yeah this guy I love him already So I think he's right fed home again in terms of his talent the way that he'll fed into the defense. I think he's a solid addition in. You know you can tell just from seeing some of the post draft video interviews him that he is just beyond thrilled to be a part of this team. I think that he's a very good culture. Fit to so. I'm really excited to see how he it's an on that side of the ball absolutely and Eric from a address standpoint looks like we have one more alchoholic. Riders can be joining us out introduced him just stuck it but from a from a scouting standpoint. You see this player. You've watched his tape. What do you see for Marlon Davidson? Makes you optimistic or pessimistic about his prospects for the future in the team Quickly my dad was a huge Lawrence Taylor fan and he also enjoyed digging Jones as well. So I kinda learn about them at a very early age and ever since learning about them always felt like defenders needs to.

"Is officially underway. The twenty twenty season has begun. It started Wednesday the eighteenth at four. Pm That's when contracts get signed a vets win. A lot of the news really started pouring in even though we've already heard a lot of rumors and suggestions of things going on. So I am here. With the deluge of writers from the Alcohol Dot Com to talk about a lot of the stuff that has transpired since the last five cast came out. Because yes that when podcast was not enough to capture everything. So I'm going to go through the guys. The in the the special guest is joining us. Today I'm GonNa Start with her because it's been a while she's my pal. She is my co pilot on the normal alcohol at podcasts of doing this for three years and I'm glad to have her back on. It's been a little while Gene Thomas. Gina. I'm so happy to have you back. Podcast David so happy to be back on the podcast especially with so many of our friends joining us today. This is fun. I'm really also joining us. Is My co pilot on the post? Game Podcast Evan Burchfield. Evan are you doing? I'm doing great tastic Eric. Robinson joins US I think you were on just a couple of weeks ago. So this is A. We're getting a lot of Eric in the short timeframe man I'm happy beyond will in that corona virus. Yeah Yeah we're not talking about the And also joining us. One of our other writers odd non each. Hey guys given how this quarantine is going. We'RE GONNA go to a point where we're just doing a podcast every single day just for the human contact the next podcast will be our favorite drink mixes last but not least. You've see his articles all the time at the site. None other than Corey Woodruff Corey. It's good to have you on man. How they how they get along with. Everybody awesome all right. We've got quite the career we're gonNA jump straight into it I'M GONNA start with before we jumped into the biggest news because I feel like we need to save. Let that breathe a little bit of the Fans WanNa hear our takes on the big signing. I want to start with. Where some of the Falcons recent Free agents were recent cuts have landed a we now know that Vic Beasley has joined the Tennessee. Titans I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong. It's a one year deal a little under ten million nine point three million something like that. Little bit of approve deal. Looks like even though the the dollar pretty significant So he he's landed somewhere pretty quickly thoughts. Anyone jump in your thoughts and Beasley joining the titans. Good riddance man. I was waiting for that. He said I thought that was one thought. Thank you eric. Vick Lis Lis made a lot of money for someone who had one good season in his career. May I wish I was a pass rusher? There are a lot of quarterbacks that have done that to be fair. I running 'cause he was two years now hell have made twenty two million dollars man. That's a lot on like prove it years where people just keep giving him money every year. Next year I'll make ten million again after getting like five sacks has pass rushers just make that kind of money on the Mark IV sex in the last three games if do just enough before the end of the season said get up to get paid then is Vic Beasley the Sam Baker Pass rushers. Oh God I would do that. Sam Influencing Baker sucked. That'd be a nice as he bounces in. He bounces back in a place where I think it can help them know. Of course his head coach is Mike. Variable so that would definitely in mind well. I can't really say that because we all thought that having a head coach like Dan Quinn will help them meet a black. I don't know if this is going to be a situation where he takes advantage of it because he's on a one year deal at this in his career. Which if you look at it a player of his age getting one year deal. He's not that far from the exit or the NFL right guys. Get three four five long-term deals so it this is the this is one opportunity drops the ball here may not get another chance Now there's going to be much not is going to be expected from him very much tennis but we'll see how it does but I'm just glad he's not in Orlando and I just WanNa say. One thing Falcons fan should be rooting for Vic Beasley to be very good next year because ideal can be pushed up to twelve million dollars in. Correct me if I'm wrong. But that could be the difference between a fifth round fake fourth round pick content for the food. Yep Yep Yep so root for Vic Beasley to hit on those incentives to make that twelve million Viggo. Get your money man. I was just kidding. Go go out there and ball out. Gina Corey guys are little bit quiet. Got Any thoughts vic I I mean I definitely think that the one year deal thing is probably the most important context here you know. I think that's Beasley as pruitt situation. He's had one year of really consistent production and even that wasn't really consistent production because you know he had a multi fat game against the broncos that sort of stack is numbers and two thousand sixteen. So He is a very nice guy he is a person that I will always wish well And I hope that it does go well for him in Tennessee but yeah it it is I think that you know if it doesn't that is probably GonNa be the last that we see Vicki Slam this league corey. You're into the sea whether you think do you think funny. I have a lot of friends that are titans fans in when they were kind of like poking me a little bit to see what I thought I was like. You know it's fine. You know it's okay to add some context. It's a bit mind numbing to me that they traded giral Casey in salary dump move today for a seventh round big for the Broncos and he was counting around eleven. Twelve me on the cap in Tennessee has vic beasley potentially May with incentives on the CAP. Which is they're not comparable at all anything that Jiro case. He's very good still is even in his thirties. Beasley as wide league inconsistent. Sometimes he plays pretty well sometimes. He's basically nonexistent so Again nothing underscore. Everyone's cinema that he's a very good person. And you know you always like secret. People be successful in my so from a human standpoint. I'm happy for him. Nothing With the titans he's GonNa be a very opportunistic scheme for him. I think the titans are. They lost bs some curious how they're going to translate defensively but I mean it's a good situation for him. They don't need them to be the main guy earlier there but at the same time he probably will start for. Tennessee drafted pass rusher so or if they signed somebody else so I think it's a good opportunity for him to get things back on track but again like everyone said that have to do that because his time in Atlanta was always very uneven. As I feel like you're being very generous but That's what we about to all right actually Corey dropped into our chat right before we jumped onto this podcast. Any his news from Jordan. Scholz that desma true font is signing with the Detroit Lions and. Apparently the deal is going to be for two years. Twenty one million total fourteen million guaranteed SA- thoughts on troop on. I was out you know. I'll start here because I was not a big fan of this cut. I understand the need for dollars freed up. I thought they could have kept him on for one more year. Instead of letting him go this year they could have cut him more going into twenty twenty one so this this cut was a little surprising to me and now seeing the getting it looks like a. I think the lions are getting a good player for probably a little below market value true funds. Still a top corner a top ten year starting corner in this league when he's healthy so put that out there thoughts on true font landing with alliance mean. I think this is going to play in what they do. At third overall but when it comes to true landing with the lions nothing's good signing them. I get I get the fans frustration or the confused at the very least when it comes to cutting him but I also understand what the team is probably doing. Because this this is a move that it was either. GonNa Happen this off season or next off season and I thought he would have got one more year. But didn't but this you know they're they're moving forward with. I think his departure also has something to do with the team's confidence in Joe. Whitt junior the new secondary coach Because you know you would want for young coats like that you WanNa have as many better as possible. But he's being given a young group at cornerback of mold and again I think it's somewhat of a confidence boost to him because they believe he can do. That gets a responsible so Best wishes to chew on things going to be great in Detroit. They got themselves a nice little corner. Paired with air is slow and what else chime in on you go ahead I refuse. No okay now. It's I'm still kind of shell shocked by this move. I thought that We were about a year away from parting ways with true fund just because of the salary cap implications. Guess Post June. I will free us our free up around ten million dollars cap space which will help sign the free agent class. But I'm happy for truth. Man He came in. He was a very good first round pick. I played through his second contract with the team. And when you draft someone. You reasonable expectation. Is You draw. Confers rookie contract and if he gets through a second contract than you know. That's just the Cherry on top of the Sunday. I think that losing him opens the door a lot. More for first round corner in the draft are the very least in the second round. Something that has been mocked to the Falcons for auto. It feels like a decade. They just Marcus Matt but this year may actually happen so you know even a broken clock is right twice a day so you know there there we go but you know. I'm happy for him. I think he's still a very good cornerback. He had some injuries struggles but remember last year. Even through nine games had a career high in interceptions. Yeah he's like he's finally learning how to catch the ball which is something that we criticize them for over But you know I think I think this is a very good contract lines as well. Two years. True Fund is what Twenty eight twenty nine years old? I think he'll play. He'll be in Detroit throughout the entire contract and then he'll set himself up for maybe one more good pay day before the end of his career which is a good thing to see Jim. Yeah I agree with all of that one of the things that I always feel compelled to defend true. Fon a little bit When the pass rushes as bad as it has been in Atlanta over? I mean the past. John Abraham left basically It's very hard for for cornerbacks to effectively cover. If they're having the cover for ten to twelve seconds on every passing I mean it's just completely insane and so.

"Game podcast week. Fourteen Atlanta the Falcons on our vision rivals Carolina Panthers Battle of eighty five as they call it joining me as always is my co host and fellow writer are at the Falcon Hawley. Evan Burchfield Evan how you doing. I'm doing great. Dwi How you doing. Don't good. It's good to be back. It's a we had a little bit of a A unintended break. Through the two Falcons losses that preceded this game but as it is We're we're back with with the The recap for the Falcons drubbing of the Carolina Panthers For those who are just getting caught up Falcons did win in this game in pretty convincing fashion. They did win. Forty two twenty. The Panthers added on some junk time point so it really wasn't even that close This was arguably one of the most complete performances for the Falcons From top to bottom offense played well defense obviously played very well and even special teams. There was quite a few special teams clay In this game so we're going to start with the offense Who are some of the names that stood out to you? That really had an impact on this game. Maybe some new new names are old names. Who the guys that Sort of caught your eye. Yeah I mean the stand out in my eyes on offense overall everybody. Nobody had a great game but it seemed like it was our best day running the ball. devante Freeman finally had. I know he had. He had receiving receiving touchdowns this year. But he didn't have a rushing touchdown entering the game Any finally got one He finished with seventeen carries. Eighty four yards and a touchdown And then also Brian Hill. who was given the reins a couple of weeks ago? While Freeman was out in even played against Carolina and he struggled mightily in enact game but as the backup change of pace back. Whatever you WANNA call him had nine carries for sixty two yards in also scored a touchdown which may me? That's just what his role should be. Maybe he's not a starting running back. Maybe it's just said like I said a change of pace back or whatever Reliever whatever you WANNA call him But we had a great date run into running the ball in it was shocking. The first matchup Y Y we weren't able to do the same thing because the panthers statistically on one of the worst run defenses in the League But you know in this game the Falcons were able to take advantage of it in. Run the ball without you know any opposition position it seemed like And then you know the passing game was what it what it typically is. Calvin Ridley continued to look good. But you know as we learned today as we're recording it He is out for the season with a abdominal injury which he was injured in a game at in less like on a card or whatever and it looked bad dead. But now we know he is season. Yeah you know. Julio Jones had a solid day Hooper I was actually Kinda let down because you know it's like he was out for all these weeks in expected to come back in when you get back in the lineup He had six targets only two catches couple. Those honestly Matt Ryan overthrew him so the timing was all probably due to them not playing together for a little bit But two receptions for thirty two yards he had a pretty quiet day bombing. The big play standout was Lissa. Kia's ninety three yard deception That you know that was his only catcher the game I believe he played Like like eleven eleven snaps or something which also happened to be the longest touchdown. Pass of Matt Ryan's Ryan's career so he gets sort of the double whammy the big ninety three yards in he will be in the record book with Matt Ryan. Unless I catch right. Yeah I catch the entire season and it goes into the ninety three hearts touchdown. That's and that's that's that's a quite the way to make splash. You know as for me. Obviously you know one of the big stories is maybe not covered as well because everyone knew it was coming was Matt Ryan Eclipsing fifty thousand career passing yards the puts him in some very rare territory. You know he's he's in the list with guys like Drew Brees Peyton manning ending. Tom Brady Bunch of hall of famers and Brett Farve in so far. There's a bunch what you guys that were first ballot hall favors in that in that will be first ballot hall of Famers and you know Ryan's Day was. Kf felt like his accuracy was a little bit off here here and there but Twenty thirty four three thirteen two touchdowns no interceptions solid afternoon. It's funny that you hear that stat line in for rivals it's like oh it's solid much. Just tell tells you what the expectation for for him is now. You know the career that he's had not but yes he is now at fifty thousand yards assuming he plays you know another three or four seasons He very reasonably will get into the the the sixties in maybe close to seventy. I'm not sure I it's it'll be close but That will put him when he retires. He will probably finish somewhere in the top five. All time passing yards which I've had a lot of people. Tell me that that's not a significant step in when you look at all the guys who are in that list with him literally all of them are hall of Famers so I think that's a pretty significant People who want to not like him regardless guardless of what are you know their face when somebody wants to believe something in this case. Believe that Matt Ryan's terrible or whatever they're gonNA WANNA ignore facts. It's sad but everything he's done virtually no shows that he's top quarterback than I mean his stats. Prove it Dan Marino never want super bowl. And that's the thing that's always going to be over Ryan's head you know unless he ends up winning one before but I mean you can be a great and not win a super bowl. There's been tons of players throughout history that have done it But it is what it is without So as you mentioned for me it was good to see the running game get back on track over a hundred yards rushing in this game I believe is the first time the Falcons have done that. All Year your which tells you just how dismal the running game has been so? That was nice to see caveat though the panthers are one of the worst teams against the run so in some ways that was a little bit expected and and clearly you know they are their team that is reeling after firing their head. Coach in the middle of the week last week I thought they were gonNA play better than that Simply because they still have some good players on the defensive side of all they've got a good pass rush by yet on that I do Wanna point out that For the Falcons offensive line. They did a phenomenal job in pass blocking and you and I were looking at some of the the. PF scores in the one thing that stood out to me Gary Matthews both had excellent like high in the eighties for Password. Matt Gono in his first start. You know I I re- repetitions at right guard. He was going in and out with breath. Chris Lindstrom who was back. He in Lindstrom both were in the mid seventies which is a really good grade for pass blocking so you know it it makes you wonder if Gono is someone that has the potential to be a long-term starter at guard. You know whether it's right right garden Lindstrom moves to left or vice versa We we've kind of seen what we have in James Carpenter and Jim Brown and it's been pretty bad from both this year It was nice to see Gono play well. In splitting those snaps with Winstrom they they almost split them down the middle. Thank you go ahead. Thirty six LINDSTROM thirty three at right guard Really encouraging performance will wait and see if he gets more snaps the next few games. MCC if that trend continues but I was extremely pleased to see that you know the interior offensive line. Those two guys in particular did a much. You better job especially against a panther again a panthers pass rush that has been one of the best in legal year so any thoughts on the offensive line. They get the same impression Russian. They were playing pretty well against the competition. Yeah it was good to see mcgarry have basically bounce back game because I know he struggled a little in on Thanksgiving in you know like you said we'll see what happens going forward. I believe wasn't Brown. A healthy scratch scratch in the carpenter which was injured. So I mean that that's kind of a bad sign in terms of how they spent their money this past off season It is by yeah. I mean we'll see what happens going forward but Lindstrom after missing. What felt like it feels like he's been gone the whole season? He looked pretty good. And then go you know and that's just kind of more like why wasn't he being played already exactly glee that we can have that argument all day but I mean that's a great point we we were saying this. Nar Writers Chat a little bit earlier. The fact that you've got this guy who was inactive for most of the season and he was someone before before the regular season started the coaching staff is even talking him up and saying really liked this guy. We think he's got positional versatility. He's strong he's athletic. We feel like we've found a really good player in free agency. Now he was undrafted. All this stuff really just talking them up and then and they just bench him. The you'd never see them again. Yeah and it's and then the worst for me for the front office. Coaching staff the worst thing that could have happened is what happened He. He came in and he played well and it just becomes an indictment on the coaching staff on the Front Office. Where yet go and say look you guys pump them up? You guys told us he was going to be good. And then you didn't play them and we had the watch Matt Ryan Get sacked fourteen times in two games while Matt go to sit on on the bench the first time you put him in and he has one of your better pass blocking scores. What's going on here guys and you know? I think it is one of the reasons. The Falcons are four nine. is you see this this sort of thing where you know they stuck with guys probably a little bit longer than they should have and It arguably costumes some games in the process and you see someone like Matt Gono Who's WHO's young? He's got upside. It reminds me of Way Back in two thousand thirteen two thousand fourteen when Mike Mike Smith insisted on playing Jeremy True blood at right tackle and there was a young undrafted player that we had that you know. They kept talking about it. They love him. They think he's got the potential to be a starting this league but they kept Ryan shredder on the bench behind trueblue. True blood in true blood was awful. In those seasons. He was one of our worst offensive. Lineman they put schrader in. He looked like a clear upgrade in. It was a damning indictment of Mike Smith and the coaching staff. That it took that long that you had a much better player and you didn't see it or you didn't execute on it. So that's we're sort of seeing you know potentially a replay of that so we'll see a go no needs to do this more consistently in over several games but so far the the early returns promising. I'm a feeling that's what would happen if they could. If they activated per not activated by they had Play like one of the Games maybe towards the end there but the same thing happen. He'll come in and look good doing the him Kaminsky. You know it again. Kaminski's another the name where we heard a lot of hype before the season and how much they loved him in the one or two games that he's played he's played really well in the regular season. We've seen him get scratched. So this kind of shows you that there. They think they're playing like they're trying to win. Further jobs because a normal coach who feels safe who knows they're out of the playoffs probably would be more willing to take these risks and be like. Well let's see what we got out of this guy in this guy this guy. Yeah you're there. They're still acting like they're playing for something. It is just pretty much their jobs at this point. I think you're right and I think think it's a missed opportunity so hope the three more games you know. There's there's a chance in the next few games we will see some of these guys. Look more I hope. We do Because if there's one thing I think we can take away from the offense you know you look at guys like Allama Days Kiss Christian Blake These are guys who got opportunities and have you know executed on that and take advantage of it you know as you mentioned. He's accused with the The big touchdown reception. You know him and Christian Blake will probably get even more opportunities next week as With you know Calvin Ridley Out Russell Gauge has looked phenomenal as a third wide receiver in this offense So you know these young guys need to be given an opportunity so the end Hopefully that happens even more Over these next the final three games so big test coming up against a the top. NFC seed Forty niners beat the saints at home yesterday on Sunday which was the So before we get into you the defense what we saw there and maybe talk a little bit about special teams because a lot of good stuff happening on that side of the ball take a quick break. We'll be right back. Uh Hey I'm Spencer.

"Eleven the Atlanta Falcons Skins in Charlotte taken up division rivals the Carolina Panthers Join me always as my co host Phil Writer Colic. Evan Burchfield Evan arguing. I'm doing great how you doing. I'm good It was a great weekend. We're going to jump straight into it because for the second week in the road. The Falcons have dominated a division of obviously last week. They went into New Orleans. They pulled off the major upset for a seven seven one the Orleans team that many people thought was one of the best teams in the C.. Maybe in the NFL. They beat them in their home. And they repeated the performance on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers beating them twenty nine to three in Charlotte in the division game and it has a lot of people people wondering if this now three and seven. The Falcons team can actually finish out the season really strong and maybe even statistically make the playoffs play offs. Oh do I think the odds of that are low. Start Evan with the offense because twenty nine points is a little bit of a Misnomer Snow Mer they actually scored twenty two points offensively. There was a punt return touchdown from Kenya Barner so they they did put on twenty two points on the board not exactly a dominant performance from the offense that I felt like there are a lot of positive things so real quick Matt Brian. twenty-one for thirty three hundred eleven yards passing touchdown he broke a record that we'll talk about later. The running game was little bit underwhelming. Coming Calvin Ridley was arguably the best player of the game on offense eight receptions one hundred forty three yards touchdown. What were your what were some of your takeaways? From the offense. The Falcons offense did against this of a panthers. Defense Yeah I think the big big elephant in the room was not having Austin Hooper how the team would be affected because he's been playing this whole season at basically an elite level among tight ends Every statistic he's basically been in the top three like him and Travis Kelsey so this was going to be a big test coming into this game and the offense seemed you know for the most part fine Calvin Ridley obviously as you mentioned being the big benefactor from hooper being out A reception two hundred forty three yards a touchdown light. That's an incredible day for Calvin Ridley any look good. Julio had you know Typical Julio Day six receptions ninety one yards Russell gauge got a little more action. Looking good at the tight end spot. I mean Jaden Graham in Luke stocker where the ones stepping up luke. Stalker occur. I believe didn't even have a target Jane. Graham only had two catches for twenty three yards. So it's pretty much you know they shied away from the tight end position with superbeing out. I was looking forward to seeing Jason. Gram more in you know. Having a law is longest catch twelve yards. Like he did get us there. It's just a a weren't going through the tight end position as they were in the past So Basically Ryan had to focus on his receivers and he did that in they they offer the most part played. Well the big thing I was looking at going in this game was the running back position because obviously devante Freeman being out for probably multiple weeks. Who knows at this point but Brian Hill looked good in the action. He's received this year so is going to be interested in seeing him. Go up against the panthers who I mean looking at just overall at the year. They've been one of the worst run I think they were twenty ninth ranked against the run. which is terrible? I know you know in terms of fantasy football over the last four weeks they've allowed the most Fantasy points to opposing running back so they've been dreadful full so it seemed like a big Brian Hill game In it really wasn't a he had fifteen carries for thirty yards his longest being eleven yard. So you can pretty any much. Tell how Brian Hillsdale in obviously no touchdowns actually one he did score but it was called back to Italy holding in Quadri not all of a sudden ended up scoring had four carries for eleven yards in pretty decent. NECE I action You know I mean I was expecting becky more from Brian Hill. I think that was the biggest takeaway on like leaving. This game was like Brian Hill. Should have had a much better day on fifteen carries like if before this game you told me he had fifteen carries. I would've said he had maybe seventy yards or more I've mentioned on twitter before the game. You know as a prediction I was like I thought it was pretty much a slam dunk. Almost I was like Oh Brian Hill. He'll probably go for over one hundred. Because the last falcons running back to rush rush for one hundred yards was Brian Hill. Act Carolina I think is like we What fourteen or something? Like that. Of the twenty eighteen season he had like a hundred and fifteen yards But yeah he fell way short of that But aside from that everybody looked fine Ryan I mean he had a nice day Yeah I mean that's pretty much my offensive takeaways. Oh did you see anything else. That I didn't mention felt like to your point coming in the panthers defense was one of the best against the past they were one of the best in getting to the QB you know as far as sacks were concerned. I think they were top of the League. And and one of the worst at stopping the run so it it is somewhat funny. That the Falcons best success was through the passing game and they couldn't get the run going again. I mean you know. Division Games tend to go sideways anyways but this one definitely went off script a the the panthers did not seem seem to be able to get to Ryan consistently. He was pressured. He was sacked one or two times but for the most part for a team that has been leading the league in Saks. The Panthers did not get home to Ryan as much as I thought they would. And you know he had thirty attempts in still managed to put up three hundred yards touchdown down the interceptions so this game again did not go to script. I think that's one of the things to pay attention to is that the Falcons are sort of defying saying what the matchups look like the past couple of weeks last week against the saints Certainly you thought the saints offense could. Score insists Falcons defense and that did not go the script in. We saw that again. This week with Falcons defense holding the panthers to one measly feel they scored in the fourth quarter This falcons offense. At least right now I think is still still has some problems. Matt Ryan had his best game of the year Barnum. I think his accuracy. Accuracy was much much better in this game that has been in recent games he dropped to fantastic bombs into the hands of Julio Jones a In Calvin Ridley in this game with pressure his face. So if that continues the Falcons could be in for a really nice Finish to the season. And as you mentioned Calvin Ridley a thought was absolutely dominant in this game. He was taking advantage of some of the cover. One looks at the panthers. We're using throughout the game. He had eight targets eight receptions so everything that with his way was caught and turned into yardage fantastic from him. I will say I do think Austin Hooper was missed. Even you know we look at the points we see. Twenty nine is mentioned seven from special teams. You see twenty the two points I you know. I don't let it. Hooper was ever going to be a big factor in this game because the panthers do have some good linebackers but I feel like he is missed in. I don't I'm I WANNA make sure that fans don't write off hooper as being not essential to this offense offense after just one game because I don't think that is a fair sample size you know. Yes the Falcons succeeded but it for me. I'd I'd rather rather Matt Ryan have that reliable target in the middle in in between the seams that he's used to as opposed to not having him but overall we're all felt like the offense did what they needed to do in this game again I'll be honest. I'm still not entirely inspired by Dirk cutter or is doing offense. I think dave covered this at the alcohol. Dot Com in his recap is incredibly frustrating. To see the Falcons calkins run on first second down in gained one two yards and set up third and five thousand six long repeatedly. This is you become a trend this season in frankly. It was a trend in the dirt cutter years where we needed Matt Ryan to bail out. Even the two thousand twelve to two thousand fourteen Matt Ryan Bell from Third Long Situation's a little bit more frequently than we would like to see so I want to see this offense play better but clearly they did enough to win this game so any final thoughts no obviously with twenty twenty two points. There were several field goals that you know factored into that. There were two two touchdowns in several field goals. Anything you want to add before we move onto defense. No I mean I think we've pretty much summed it up a young way too. He's looked pretty good You know the one thing as a map Ryan lover and and Fan I've wanted to see him like further than fifty. It seems like he's he's got. I mean he missed one yesterday. which you know wasn't a good look? Look but he's looked at outside of that he's look good within like the forty range. You know which is something you WanNa see but I wanna see when he's back in the fifties range you know 'cause that's arguably where you're winning games at least the close ones But he the Falcons offense has actually been in pretty good over the last two weeks So they've been you know well enough to get him into field goal range where it's like. He's knocking down. I think he had like to to to a thirty eight yard. Field Goal attempts was missed. I think one was like Twenty Twenty Nine Yard Field Goal Twenty three yard field goal. Like those are great. I I WANNA see you know before I'm all aboard the coup train I WanNa see what he can do like in the fifty range. If that makes accents by I mean so far he's I mean he's looked better than the options. We had initially with Blair Walsh in two Vecchio. So Yeah Yeah. And so far in the Games from the by he seven for eight but as as you mentioned nothing above fifty point it remains to be seen what he can do from that distance. And as you mentioned I think it is That yardage the fifty plus yard field goals is really wear kickers. Make their money. Anything below below forty it should be. He's somewhat automatic and yet that's something where We took a lot for granted with Brian. Being the kicker Atlanta so But with that we're you know we will see young way has a i. I doubt we'll see in their kicker changed the season. I think he's GonNa be given until the end of the season. He is younger player. He's someone that I think the Falcons and moved on from just don't see them going back at this point it. It would be ridiculous if they try to anyways tempering Ryan back still unless coup comes out in completely as like taking thirty percent percent. There's no way he I mean at this point they just need to you know. Ride the ship out in you know. Then they can have that discussion in the off season. He hasn't is it done anything. I'll put it this way. He hasn't done anything to sabotage his job. It's just has he done anything to cement it as next next year going forward. Because that's how we all looked at Vecchio. We saw the field goals he was making last year. You know the team did to enough to where they were getting rid of the franchise leading scored to keep him So he's going to over the next few games in. That's not his fault. He hasn't had a fifty plus attempt. It's not like he's missing hasn't been in a position to do that in a game But I think if he does and he makes them on looks good. You know they're going to have a you. Know they might have had a bright spot here and have the kicker for the next few years or whatever so but to be determined now to be determined. Ah so before we jump into how the defense did in this dominant performance. We're GONNA take a quick break. We'll be right back..

"Guys welcome to the Alcohol IX post game podcast with two thousand nineteen season eight the The falcons hosting the Seattle seahawks joining me as always is my co host and fellow writer at the Falcon Hollick. Evan Burchfield Evan how you doing not too bad considering we just lost the I mean I think we were all expecting a much more devastating loss in you can you know be not to go into too much detail will cover but you can realistically see a way that the Falcons could have won this game they weren't really outplayed or anything like that so yeah I mean I wish I had some more negatively bring like I have the last couple of weeks but like I actually felt good about this law so I don't know what about you season where we're one in seven this was the least disappointing loss we've suffered an obviously for those who are following along the seahawks did win this game is expected twenty seven to twenty the falcons were down I remember I twenty four to nothing at halftime so the outscored the seahawks twenty two three in the second half which is something to be noted something else to point out first game since two thousand two thousand nine two thousand nine since Matt Ryan has missed a Game Matt Shaab got the start played really well in his absence author so let's let's start with the start conversation with the offense Evan obviously I just mentioned Matt Shaab a thirty eight year old up thirty nine fifty to four hundred sixty yards one touchdown one interception what did you think of his performance in lieu of me Brian being on the bench it was actually very like it's What you want in a backup quarterback he was doing the right throws I mean yeah he did have that one interception where I believe he overthrew I think it was Julio in you know at that moment when that happened go boy here we go for he collapsed he actually like did well he spread the ball pretty well I mean Julio had a hundred and fifty yards or one hundred and fifty two yard Insane Ten receptions touchdowns but it's still like a really good day for Julio Costin Hooper he used a lot win six reception sixty five yards touchdown Ridley for reception seventy yard so if you notice he pretty much kept that same you know obviously said news is no longer with us but pretty much that trio of receivers you wanna be using devante Freeman you know was also used in the passing game as he has been in recent weeks a receptions for sixty three yards but yeah I mean having four I don't think anybody him to have four hundred sixty yards it's just it's absurd yeah it's a weird stat line I mean I was I honestly if you follow the Alcohol staff predictions that Gina Thomas Maybe it's Dave I think Dave does it puts like the day of the game usually in the morning may have a lot of our writers like score predictions for what we think will happen in the game I had the game like the seahawks went in like forty one to seventeen I certainly didn't expect it to be this close match Shaab through fifty two times and have a ninety nine ninety nine point eight quarterback rating He definitely played better than what I expected from him so to add to that you know you mentioned the receiving yards for the Falcons I think one point out the rushing yards devante thirteen carries thirty nine yards again another underwhelming performance on the ground but Brian Hill all three carries twenty nine yards and the touchdown he actually looked pretty impressive in the very few carries he got makes you wonder if he's going to be more of a factor after the bye week he is someone that stood out in the preseason he stood out again and again limited carries so we we should put that with a grain of salt but in the limited series he got he looked very good in to add to the receiving numbers you mentioned Julio Calvin Austin in Davonte L. factoring in the one named that stood out to me was Russell gauge seven receptions fifty eight yards and he would win that we knew with being gone now to the Patriots that you know the Falcons were likely going to look to him in just in hardy already had two receptions for twenty three yards gauged looks like is already beginning to slide in as that true third wide receiver even if he is maybe the fourth or fifth option in the passing game but seven seven receptions for Kathy yards is a pretty good start for the second year player Al Villas what's your impression of how the Falcons this gauge and does it give you some encouragement that maybe as we're going to twenty twenty this receiving core behind Jones relieved that gauge may be able to pick up some slack yeah I mean even dating back to this preseason you were pretty much talking highly of gauge but obviously at the time we really wasn't enough ball to go around for him to have any sort of impact in also worth mentioning when your quarterback throws it fifty two times that does free up a lot of receptions in day definitely went his way Julio left a little bit with a I don't know what he was on the sideline with something they might have been just Ankle or knee just kind of roughed up but he did return in Ridley also left the game with a look like concussion but he somehow came back so aged basically was able to take advantage of those snaps where he was able to get in there pretty much to start and he had a solid day in I like like that the ball was spread around enough for him to be able to have an impact Because I mean seven receptions for fifty yards to some people's probably not a big deal but like he looked really good in plays they're the type you have to kind of just see I do like the prospect of him going forward I think the wide receiver Amine as we we've been pretty much blessed with having good Rome wide receivers over the last decade in a he looks the part so I mean it's GonNa be interesting but again when your quarterback fifty two times a normal day Russell Wilson only through twenty times if Shaba only through it twenty times you're looking gauge may be having two receptions at most most riot inflates yeah it kind of influences number so I don't WanNa get who excited but I do think he's got the talent he's very young athletic like he's got everything you wine that kind of third receiver I mean we'll see what happens but you know a good day is usually Julio in hooper at least that's what it looks like going forward Julio Hooper and Ridley eating in engaged is definitely better at like upgrade over hardy who still played a part today but I think that was more because the ball was thrown fifty two times and then there was a couple of injuries like that but Yeah I I don't know I liked him did you did you think he was you know adding more to the office ends while out there it's I think he in you know obviously losing a receiver who was teeter totter in between what you would consider wide receiver too wide receiver three with way they were using him he did a good job if you're replacing that type of productivity Ridley obviously stepped up for receptions seventy yards arguably could have had more he to have the two point conversion early in the game and obviously if you combine Jones Ridley Hooper they went for almost three hundred yards between the three of them which is to your point is what you want to see you wanna see these guys your top three guys add up for the majority of receiving yards where I think aged factors in is obviously was gone he's going to get more targets and he took advantage of him he had nine targets and seven receptions off those non targets and you know he he did a fairly good job of becoming a factor in this offense where he was catching almost everything that went his way nothing really big from explosive standpoint but just solid solid performance and again for someone who is in the second year was considered a very Rau- wide receiver coming out of Lsu it's encouraging the say he has grown a lot from his rookie year to the second year be very curious to see after the bye week if we see more of gauge in this offense because you know one of the things consider is with the Falcons running game absolutely just struggling you know look let's be blunt this point the Falcons just not getting it done on the ground period again not a shock for a Dirk other offense unfortunately but they are they've been woefully inadequate they're gonNA have to make their offense work in the air and that means that you know Hind Jones Ritalin hooper you need guys like Gaijin hardy to contribute another name that another pass again this is someone that's on the preseason I'm little frustrated we haven't seen more have more of him during the regular season was Jaden Graham he had a reception for eleven yards in the key believe I think it was the down conversion I may be wrong but he is someone that also stood out so if you're looking towards twenty twenty and you're looking at this falcons offense I see several reasons from a skill standpoint to be optimistic you've got obviously the Jones Ridley Hooper and it sounds like the Falcons are in keeping Hooper based on all the rumors we've seen they're not gonNA trade him which which would be an indication that they're it very intent on keeping him I would not be surprised if we see see him signed to a long term deal over the next few weeks now with the money freed up from the snow being traded patriots but if you're looking at you know the the passing offense behind these guys you got Russell Gauge you've got Jaden Graham who is showing potential as second receiving tight end it makes you feel a lot better about where this team may be in twenty twenty from offensive standpoint obviously we're going to about the defense and where they stand in just a little bit but if I'm thinking purely offense purely where this team is headed going into the next season and I feel pretty good about that how do you feel about what you saw today just just as far as projecting into the next season I mean we definitely have the talent I think we got the towel right now to win you know it's just not happening I think the run game needs a lot more help in I think having take a offensive mind who is intercut hill have like a good game you know limited action obviously but he had a solid game in you know he was on he was one of our Game Day in actives spur what couple weeks start the season and pretty much came in because Y- Smith went out with the concussion or whatever so you know maybe they'll use him some more and.

Evan Burchfield Evan L. to I hate seeing Xiang getting in the way of wins weather it's exactly regardless of who it is maybe some worth looking at yeah I mean I think it's a fair point you know Matt Brian has been so consistent that I think he deserves at least the benefit of the doubt and going back and looking hesitant to throw Matt Bryant on the bus especially with how he's been for spur for sewing only one he should make don't let me take that mm-hmm You WanNa find out like why why did that happen you know flukes do happen even to the best of them so you know hopefully that's all it was Spencer Hall I'm Holly Anderson I'm Ryan Nanny I'm Jason Kirk and we're the hosts of the shutdown forecast avengers of college football podcast it says in the script to riff on what that means and basically what I mean is this all already spoiled every Tuesday we talk about everything from cooking disasters to pro wrestling too unfashionable pants we warned middle school we also do talk about college football every now and then like mascot fights announcers fleeing the booth early and unfashionable pants that coaches where now if you want to take college football exactly as seriously as it should be taken subscribe for Riyan apple podcasts or in your favorite podcast APP and we're back on the alcohol post game podcast recapping the Falcons thirty four to thirty three loss on the road to the Arizona cardinals in week six this is Dave Walker I'm here with Burchfield we're talking about the specifics of what went wrong in this game there's a lot but I want to recap real quickly for the podcast for those listening some of the statistics we saw from the Falcons offense on this game before we talk about the defense there's some issues about their number one Matt Ryan Thirty for thirty six three hundred fifty six yards four touchdowns no interest options he had a brilliant game I think it's easy to say that he was far from The reasons that we lost this game devante Freeman nineteen eighty eight yards for four point six average he clearly had his best one of his best rushing games this entire season looked much much better her and then on the receiving side Austin Hooper lead with eight receptions for hundred seventeen yards and the touchdown I have him fantasy team thank you Mr Hooper the Julio Jones eight receptions one hundred eight yards Calvin early four for forty eight and a touchdown and devante pull the in three receptions in two of those touchdown so a really good game for Freeman anyone stand out to you on offense that you think deserves special attention in this cardinals game I I mean I liked seeing you know the usual the guys who should be used used by if Elliot dive into it I thought the news role was like what I would love to see some news roby he kinda was like You know you've heard a change of pace backs it was Kinda like a change of pace receiver he had three receptions twenty nine yards like they can they came when Julio was basically getting a breather Ridley was getting breather and it was just like a change of pace thing and then you know you saw finally saw Graham who we've we saw looking good in preseason he's our third you know tight end he had one catch for twenty one yards I'd like to see him more involved Luke stocker had one catch you know you targeted one time it went for zero yards it was nice to see mcgarry have a reception nothing nothing anelle waiting for the fun is slowed by responses so uh-huh Right now oh oh he actually was expecting it to happen well w yeah McGee the three yard game yeah his first career reception basically got popped up hit off a cardinals guy and he came back take for native three yards and that was exciting yeah but I mean I just like seeing you know what I you know you can religion all these from podcast if you want to but basically what mean w have been saying as like us these people don't like Ridley have one targeted a game the freemen barely have any carries you've got to commit you know that's the thing I think people forget with running backs you have to commit to you can't do this like split carry season stuff because what we would see when it was freeman in Coleman was they would struggle you know obviously twenty six teams at something but they would struggle together like nobody neither of them would have like a solid rushing day but then one of them would be out for injury in either Kalman would go off or if it was free would you need from your running back in I'm glad they didn't like Goo shy away from him. Ito Smith had three carries that's fine It was good to see Freeman back because he has taken a lot flack I've even been critical of because there was times this year where just looked rough he had a solid day you know any would have been the and then as you mentioned hooper has just had a career season he really like he's really wanting to get paid and good for him yeah I said go you know not to toot my own horn here but going into this game I was saying I mean I was saying hooper was gonNA have Assan year hunting season but going into this game the cardinals are literally the worst defense against tight ends in Hooper did his job aid targets eight receptions hundred seventeen yards channel no one more you can expect probably good for him yeah absolutely and I think again for those who count QB wins A statistic thirty for thirty six three fifty six four touchdowns receptions this should show you the quarterback wins is a stupid did stupid statistic please drop it and Matt Ryan Is Still Good Matt Ryan is still good he he since ah shut him he's ordering this season off pretty rough but I would say we're to pass a two and a half games he has been in much much better form and this game was easily one of the best he's had in recent memory so fantastic performance from him ESPEC- really when you consider that he was under pressure very large large portion of the game so with that the defense I I'm hesitant to talk about them because of what happened I want to talk first about what column early Cuyler Murray did to defense he went twenty seven eighty seven for three hundred forty yards endo interceptions and no sacks again another quarterback that has they had a clean pocket basically for the entire day again the rushing in it feels like they were better than this the card those rushing Game David Johnson twelve carries thirty four yards. That was it chase edmunds five for thirty four it was really in the the receiver yes and it wasn't one receiver fitzgerald had six for sixty nine David Johnson had six hundred sixty eight bird had to for sixty trencher our field had one for thirty eight at they didn't I think the big story in this game with the defense it wasn't like last week their funding number one the defense is finding new ways to let the other team beat us but it wasn't that they're number two receiver was beating us it was that for Murray he was finding you guys all the way down the depth chart to to beat us whether it was Demeer Bird Trent Sherfield Max Williams chase edmunds he had multiple guys with receptions on this Falcons defense that kept their drives alive what is your takeaway a about what this cardinals offense did to this Dan Quinn lead defense yeah I think you mentioned it well how he was basically the grabbing people who I didn't even know it was on the team like Phero Cooper he was the one who played for the rams and I believe he was at a guy that got shot in light it wasn't even sure he was gonNA play football again and then all of a sudden on the cardinals I had no idea chase edmunds you. Know he got his in the receiving game Geek he basically you know ask games like AJ Brown how he went off in will fuller obviously instead of just using that second guy which would have been bird or maybe Sherfield he combined a bunch of dudes in spread it out to all these other guys that I think that's Charles Clay who had two receptions like I thought he was stolen the bills that's a solid day for Kyle Mary Mariota you know we were talking about in the solid day he had he got benched today against the Denver Broncos but he got it to enough guys I mean they had looking at their stats here they had three guys go over sixty yards receiving and then they had three guys over thirty you know I think Colin Murray he showed enough today where I was like you know that's solid and stuff but there were so many missed opportunities where the falcons just thirty points that should be winnable but our defenses allowing you know gone allow more than thirty points a game you're going to lose the game that's just you know l. goes and I I mean I don't think in the NFL today you can give up over thirty points Zain's before you start writing the history book on them but regardless rookie QB rookie head coach a team that has struggled this year calling the shots that many people thought would be a a much better defense and if anything what we have seen less several weeks is this is a criminally bad defense and I believe this point we're outpacing the two thousand seventeen to eighteen defense which was injury riddled which was missing many key players we are outpacing that defense from points per eh you know on dion Jones have missed tackle and I think fans were ready to set him on fire so figure that one out.

Alcoholics Evan Burchfield Evan how about that game for folks who didn't Actually Watch the game the Falcons were in it for Like they were only uh-huh tied income in in score two of the touchdowns And I think that was his only to catch of the day is just you know It's like we focus on the Andre Hopkins but willful or torched us just absolutely torch us in the running backs had like this holiday against has to we weren't stopping the run at all it it's one of those days where you WanNa just like wash your mouth it just feels filthy thirty right now like I need to go shower and it was just gross watching that it really was you know again what's amazing is you if you look at the Texans like their running game Carlos twenty-one carriers sixty yards he had a touchdown but two point nine yard average Duke Johnson you know nine carries fifty nine yards six point six average but most of that came on the big run towards the end of the game realistically that in this is defense that can stop the run now as like they focused on that heavily this off season with signing guys like Alan Bailey and Tyler Davidson and I think those were good signings but they're stopping the run but to your point they gave up four hundred twenty six passing yards. of three touchdowns to the number two wide receiver not even the you know new caulkins who's one of the best receivers in the league I it's it seems like this defense they aimed to fix one issue and they created a bigger more glaring issue in the process. Sure you you're doing better against the run but oh you're giving up record yards to the opposing quarterback and even to you know lesser quarterbacks like Marietta and Brusett you know neither of which I think are in the same league as the Shawn Watson those guys had essentially good games compared to their normal stat line so this is quickly becoming a a laughable defense and again as you as you point out perfectly at the beginning of this conversation for Dan Quinn to take ownership of this defense this means autumn it's on his shoulders this is him this is on him there's no way to cut that and just feels like the game that may end up being the death knell for his time as head coach in Atlanta I hate it liked Dan Quayle liked the higher when we brought him in I did personally feel like he deserved this season despite some of the issues we we all last year but my God one in four arguably could have been Owen five were it not for a dropped pass by Nelson Galore a against the the eagles this is this is quite possibly be worst possible start we've seen to a season in recent memory and this includes the Mike Smith Year so very very damning horrible game definitely not one You WanNa see at this point in the season so I think at this point I think Dan Quinn will make it to the by week all bets are off after that especially if they continue in this fashion.

"With two thousand nine hundred season we three the Atlanta Falcons on the road. Taking on the Indianapolis Colts joining me as always is my fellow alchoholic writer Evan Burchfield Evan. How're you doing? It's not well he w yet so for those who didn't hear the Falcons lost a close one which at times didn't feel like it was going to be close at all they lost twenty seven twenty four on the road they are now one in ten in their last eleven games against AFC teams one eleven eleven. If you include the Super Bowl which certainly counts we won't talk about that. this was a frustrating game a tale of two halves and a game with potentially some serious long-term ramifications for Falcon so let's jump right into it and we're. GonNa talk about those injuries because these are looming coming over this team early again in the season. This feels eerily like a two thousand eighteen season. Seles just get to some of the names obviously the one at the top of the list the one that probably has fans the most concern is gonna be Keanu Neil he went down believe in the second quarter and amazingly the refs are heartless in that suffered the injury through his helmet off and then subsequently got the penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for taking his helmet off on the field when it was clear that he was seriously injured which was frustrating. I know it pissed me off pissed off a a lot of people were watching. I understand rules are rules but breaths. That is just garbage. You guys can go to hell for that Neil. It looks like may have suffered offered an Achilles injury I think some people were initially speculating. ACL again since that was the injury from last year but it does look like it's an Achilles injury. We don't know the the extent yet but he was carted off and he was seen crying on the field which was devastating. Evan was your thought you saw him clutching at his leg yeah it was you know heart wrenching like you you. When you see somebody that tough crying you know it's just like in any care about your players and stuff like that and it just was it's emotional in any think of we finally get him back in game three. He's got probably a serious injury at first it seemed like you know the fear or was it was acl but apparently it was his Achilles as you mentioned but I believe it's on the same I'm not a doctor so I don't know how that even if that is even relevant just I believe it's on the same you know so that that's really a lot of stress on that leg of his it just it sucks. I'll know there ain't really a way to sugar coat. It just today soft in the injury sucked in yeah. Yeah I mean there was another devastating site for Falcons fans. You know one of our young bright right stars one of the guys that Dan Quinn drafted to rebuild this defense down for what potentially could be yet again a season ending injury injury and of course some fans have already started to ask well. You know a keep him after next year and I think that's going to be a big question. Mark Mark you know he's got one more year with the Falcons because MS fifth year option than twenty twenty and I hate it. I hate it. That's even the conversation to have at this point but yeah. It's Keanu get better. there were other injuries. We don't know the severity of those Grady Jarrett left late in the game with a toe injury. Sorry he did not return type. McKinley had a knee injury and did not return. I will say it looked like he was trying to work. The knee out on the sidelines what we were seeing in that is potentially encouraging. That may not be a long-term injury so we'll definitely have to keep an eye on that. Jim Brown did X. At the game at one point I think he came back in. I'm not positive either. Smith got taken out of the game with concussion and so they can on Barner so the Falcons suffered a an big slate of injuries this week and it is a pretty a pretty rough ebbing forum for them to lose this guy and then to lose that game so what do you make of these injuries Do you think there's any of these that you're overly concerned about outside of obviously the key on the Neil injury you think any of these look like they're going to be long term thinks you know I mean I didn't you know but the thing with injuries theresa that is it's in the NFL. It's tough because it's like you'll think it's nothing in menu wake up on Monday or Tuesday morning and they're like they're out for for the year like fluky you know in the Nicole also had their share of injuries with obviously dearest Leonard. They're probably best defensive. The player didn't play a T. Whitehill in left in I believe the third quarter with a quad injury yeah I feel like they lost somebody else but not remember off the top of my head but you know it's just it happens. You know injuries happen in for some reason with us. They happen all at once in it. It's it's unfortunate but you know that's that's part of being a brotherhood in stuff like the rest of the guys have to step up in. I mean we lost by three so it wasn't like we got destroyed but I I felt pretty confident that this is a game. We should have one to begin with. I don't WanNA bounce around but yeah. Just you know it's it is and I think we're going to talk about that here quickly. It's in the first half. The Falcons. Were just this completely outplayed by the time they went into the locker room at Halftime it was a twenty three game. Matt Ryan was completely ineffective. He you know he had another head-scratching interception on again a downfield pass to luke stocker which sure I'll go ahead and say it dirk cutter. If you're calling downfield passes to luke stocker you deserve to be fired that is incompetence you when you have. Julio Jones Calvin Ridley Muhammed snnu Austin Hooper Devante Freeman and you're calling downfield passes to your blocking tight hi in you're in the competent offensive coordinator and you deserve to lose your job. It is mind boggling we we saw in the first. I have more targets for Luke stocker than we did for Calvin Ridley that is that is a level of incompetence that should be pointed out in screamed about out until the Falcons Brass flowery branch make a decision on whether they want this team to have a good offense or whether they wanNA feature Luke fricking stalker every week. I'm fed up with it. It's disgusting stupid now. That does not excuse Matt Ryan throwing that ball it was a terrible all decision by our QB. He has six sections on the season but we'll talk about his second half a little bit later but I did want to get that off my chest dirk cutter. This offensive talent deserves better than the play calling you put on the field in the first half today what you put on the first half should get a man fired it was that stupid that offensive and I am beyond the Pale with your insistence that you're going to be created by throwing the people that don't deserve observe the Damn Ball Evan your thoughts yeah I was about to go in on stocker. Some glad you did too the gravely and you made a good point. in the first half stocker head more targets in Ridley in the overall game stalker had four targets. It's really only one any caught it for six yards. That's it's incompetence. It's it's just ignoring your playmakers like it doesn't make any sense actually went to stalker before one of the Hooper touchdowns because he scored twice they went to stalker in it you know towards the ends. I don't get this love fest. I don't like I want. I want to understand why Luke stalkers so involved. You WanNA use them as a blocker fine but why why is he one of your receiving options like I understand if he's like seventh receiving option or something but I like if you want to look at this game four targets for Luke Stocker one target Hodel for Ridley. That's all you really need to know exactly because it's it's stupidity not like I'm on one of the last people who wants to jump on the whole like let's get rid a Dan Quinn thing but there's no you have to now like you have no choice. We've we've literally knockabout surround. We literally had sixteen penalties to their one. Four hundred twenty yards move because because of penalties like it's just like it's frustrating undisciplined your your your guys out there playing. Dan You know and right now. We're recording this literally minutes after the game ended in right now. Dan Quits probably at his presser saying you know the typical B. S. lines about We're GONNA improve this. You know all you know penalties Blah Blah Blah given you know given what he thinks. People want to hear. Nobody wants to hear it. I really hope in. This is like going out there. I really aside from you know cheering for the braves. I really hope they win because I want. I Want Arthur blank and I know he's already got that kind of firing hiring him. I want him to have that fire of okay. I'm tired of the Falcons being like a joke because if if the Atlanta united you know they win another championship they already want one last year the braves when a championship it's GonNa make the Falcons look really bad. They're all of a sudden the like third or fourth worst team. I'm in the city when they used to be running the city even though they weren't successful but it's like it's a joke at this point in. I hate that we're wasting you. You Know Julio Jones were Wasting Matt Ryan. I mean even in that stupid ass decision. He had he finished his stats twenty nine of thirty four three hundred and four yards three touchdowns at interception hundred and twenty one point one rating like that's a solid day on paper but we're we're wasting talent I'm just I'm Kinda like over this came. It's sickening 'cause stupid. That's all it is stupid. It's like when let me loss to the dolphins in previous years when we needed a win they do this shit in. It's like later on in the season. This'll like okay if find the Falcons and I like to believe I do. They're going to all of a sudden about you're gonNA finish the bye week strong. They're going to start contending in. It's like Oh we're gonNA miss the playoffs by Gamer number two because of losses like this. It's just stupid yeah yeah and I I think I said this on twitter and with a reiterated read it here if you guys are of the mindset that Dan Quinn needs to go. I think you can point to this game. As positive highlighted perfectly the endless number of penalties. I believe there were sixteen penalties on the day for the Falcons me me Yeah Sixteen for one hundred twenty yards according to whatever the stats things sixteen penalties including it felt felt like a dozen on the last offensive drive for the Falcons which amazingly they were able to overcome instill get a touchdown. I'm out of but that is a lack of discipline which falls on the head coach and then we saw a defense that yes I know you lost kill. Neil and you lost Grady Jarrett on the final drive intact McKinley but that got carved up in the first half got carved up by Jacoby be percents and you know I'm not saying he's about quarterback but he looked like an all pro quarterback against Falcons defense and if you're GONNA fire if you're gonNA look at the the two main reasons behind those massive massive issues in this game they're both Dan Quinn lack of discipline the the the overarching.

"To the DACA Alex Post Game podcast for the two thousand nineteen season week to the the Atlanta Falcons hosting the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night football big game prime time the only one falcons hosting the one in Oh Philadelphia Eagles of course Chris joining me as always is my co host and fellow writer at the Alchoholic Evan Burchfield Evan. How are you doing man while the W on doing doing great considering the exciting game. We got to watch last night after what week one look like and then what we got to experience James last night is a total flip the script so to speak in yeah. I'm excited to talk about it. It was last week was a little a bit tough for you and I it's. This one feels a lot different so we're going to dive into it. We're going to start on the offensive side of the ball. Where Falcons Walk Ins? Were going up against. another defensive front in the eagles that you know is really formidable. They've got a Fletcher Cox Brandon Graham Timmy Jernigan. This is a team that can disrupt a lot of offensive lines so we'll start. They're starting the trenches when you think back on this game what was your impression of how the offensive line did throughout the night I think the biggest stat fans should look at is that Matt Ryan was only sacked one time. I came later in the game. everybody did a phenomenal job. I mean you know mcgarry left for brief period. It looks like we might lose him for a length elite amount of time and then you just like appeared on the field somehow some sort of magic but you know during that period same bray low did fine. I mean you know he didn't do anything to ruin the game for us us but yeah. I mean considering who was against the eagles. front seven is just tough though. I think they did a pretty good job job. I'd give him like a B plus. The Standard of what we expected I think for me it was again. The right side line actually played pretty well in a mcgarry Jim Brown his first start at right guard filling in for the injured. Chris Lindstrom played very well and overall the only. I think the only downside where I would. Maybe take some notches down. A little bit is just in the running game. This is the second straight week where they've been really unable to consistently established the Ryan. There were some good runs in the game. I don't want to you know discredit completely early but they didn't quite get the lanes open the way the want to see that happen which I will say is to be expected for an offensive line that has not had had a lot of time together. It's usually the running game that comes you know that takes time to develop as these guys get to know each other they learn which blocks each person's. GonNa make especially when you're talking about zone blocking scheme where guys have to know almost instinctively what the guy next to him is going to do with their blocks so that will probably get better as they get more time together but yeah. I was overall impressed with the offensive line and special credit to Jake Matthews who arguably set up the big touchdown run by Julio Jones at the end of the game by absolutely destroying that Philadelphia Delta Corner I mean he pancaked him and just Kinda sat on him so he he deserves special. Kudos for a a major. You're playing the game. Let's talk about some of the stars here because I want to start with the guy in the middle of the guy who I think some fans this our little frustrated with but at the same time you can't be too frustrated because he organized yet another fourth quarter drive and that's quarterback Back Matt Ryan. He finished the night with if you just look at the stats twenty seven to forty three three hundred twenty yards three touchdowns. I think thank you win over three hundred touchdowns for his career in this game so he is now on a very exclusive list in NFL history and yet he had those three interceptions. It was Liz yeah one of them you could maybe look at it and say okay. He was pressured and couldn't get a good throw off but the other two were sort of you know just inaccurate or poor decisions. So what do you make of Matt Ryan's night. Are you concerned. Do you think this is just a slow start by him. You what do you think's going on with with with the QB. I mean a couple of it seemed like he just was feeling pressure. Even if it wasn't really there maybe he was just kind of used to it but the like this so he had three interceptions the one hits the news like it would have been incomplete but some new hand hidden unabated up in the air was intercepted that way so I don't put that I mean it was a bathrobe out completely put that on him because it should have been incomplete and and then the one that Julio was just him for some reason thinking he had like amazing arm strength in could just gun it seventy arts downfield or something because it just floated in the air and I guess he had a lot of confidence that Julio was single covered in Egypt. Come Down with it but it it was really nowhere near being completion in the third one I believe was the one where his arm kind of guy hit but that's not the point because his Austin Hooper headlight triple covered news like you know if if awesome who present covered check it down or you know thrown Alabama's or something a lot of people pointed. Luke stocker was completely open just underneath so yeah yeah. It's just like it's more decision decision making He's a MVP so you gotTa Kinda give him the benefit of the Downton certain situations if he had like five interceptions in one touchdown I think I'd be freaking out a little bit more but three touchdowns three interceptions like interceptions happen Cartoon Carson wentz had two of his own in win straight to desma Tufan. That's tonight it was so it's like content really of go too hard on him. Although they did come in situations that's where it didn't help the Falcons because of like okay like the one to Bouillaud pretty much gave the eagles perfect field position because right they valk for folks who didn't watch it. Bosscher had had growing tightness. Oh he when he did punt. It was very bad. barely going over you know what was it thirty forty yards or something it just he just the field position game was getting lost by the pint game so him throw in that one pretty much helped the Eagle's even more in the one to hooper that I mentioned was in the red zone which could gave the Falcons a field goal. one is the new came. Remember exactly where that was but it's just like you know behind mm-hmm but yeah it was still on our territory yeah yeah so it's just like stopping drives but I mean like I said I don't put a lot into this game. The fact is we won so when you win a kind of masks over the negative stuff but you you just want to make better decisions because he's not you know from from our knowledge injured or anything. It just seems like it's decision making her forcing. Maybe it's too comfortable trying to force stuff but yeah I'm. I'm not too word. I think one of the things we've seen from Ryan in the past is when he has some instability on the offensive of line and some changes at offensive coordinator it takes him a little while to get going in the season in I think this'll this won't be as bad as maybe like two thousand fifteen where he was learning an entirely new playbook. I think this one is you know I think he's GonNa get back up to speed in the next couple of weeks. Maybe your here next next Sunday and I think some of it is having to do with you know sort of a a rotation of guys on the offensive line on the left outside the fine you know Jake Carpenter's been playing well obviously Alex in the in the middle but that rotation of guys he seeing on the right side. I think I think he's probably got him. You know hearing the footsteps a little bit more than he would normally so I think once there's some stability there and it looks like cable mcgarry settling into being a you know the the permanent start right tackle Jomaa Brown's GonNa be you know the permanent starter there for most of the year until Lindstrom can get back from injury. I really think that you know as he gets more time and get settled with these guys. He's GONNA settle into the season so like you said I'm not too worried about it. It's it's it's certainly not a great start for him but to his credit you know again they they came back. He has yet another fourth quarter comeback for the for the Falcons and it on that impressive fourth and three place so on that note. Let's talk about the receivers in before we go to Julio. I WanNa talk about the guy who I think. Arguably of the two receivers was the better of the two or at least more consistent throughout the game and that was Calvin Ridley mm Ridley finished the day with eight receptions one hundred five yards of course the big bomb touchdown thirty eight yard touchdown from Ryan Ryan looks for him. The same number of times he looked for Julio he pulled in three more catches five on the evening but Ridley really looked looked good and I mentioned this on twitter. He was explosive. He's when he puts it into that next year. He really has has like this. This top notch speed takes the top off of defenses and the fact that he's Ryan already getting comfortable Ryan with storing him in double coverage average a couple of times because he's beginning to trust Ridley in the way that he trust guys like Julio and and Austin Hooper so what do you make Geico of Ridley start to the season. He's I think he's really started these first two games pretty well yeah you know He. He's he was a guy. I really really liked going into the season for those that know me. I do more the fantasy stuff also and I said you know in my fantasy the article which came out on Friday before the game I really like not to toot my own horn here but I really liked Ridley going into it. Just because I knew the eagles you know they gave up the twelfth most fantasy points to wide receivers in week one against the Redskins twenty two thousand eighteen. They were bad and it's just like you're GonNa put all your attention on Julio which is obvious in Ridley's going to flourish because he's got the speed. He has the athlete. It's weird. He has like a second motor here where you know kind of like coolio but obviously just a little different because Julia is a freak but he's like Julio. Light where you gotTa you still got a cover him in. It's like we have all these weapons out there. It's incredible that you know I don't envy the defensive coordinator. Whoever we play because how you GonNa Stop Calvin Ridley to be so quick should've actually had two touchdowns but Ryan overthrew him in who else was it was was a him in hardy. I think Yeah Yeah Randomly Way Ryan had to deep bombs but also of 'em were just like a foot too far ahead I think with with Ridley the ball actually him in the hands so he had yeah he watched it just a little bit earlier and on hindsight it looked like he he probably could have pulled it in. It would be really difficult really difficult. Catch could have been slightly better emplacement placement but yeah it hit him in the in the fingertips so okay yeah but your point is definitely taken yeah no. I I just I think he's he's an incredible talent. He's definitely I think when we look back at that draft class if he isn't already he's he's the best receiver from that draft class in my opinion you know I like I know people talked up. Dj More and stuff like that but really you know it's we've been fortunate to go from Roddy White to Julio a Yo to Calvin Ridley. We just have some really good receivers but I really like him. I think he's very complementary to Julio Jones's game n even having Sununu out there. It's something to be excited. Balan definitely someone to keep an eye on yeah absolutely and like you said for for those who are fantasy participants who who love fantasy football if you played ridley you probably were very happy with what you saw on Sunday night on the other side of the field though was Julio Jones who had the opportunity to set the all-time Record Alzheimer's saving record in Falcons history passing roddy white and he up until the fourth quarter was falling short of that until the Falcons Elkins called a brilliant audible into the the infamous fourth in three wide receiver screen where credit to Mohammed Sununu who made his block well. Jake Matthews now is the father of the quarterback for the Eagles who he absolutely devastated and Julia of course ran it in for fifty three yards the touchdown he actually had another touchdown on the night so he has to on the evening five receptions one hundred six yards sets the all-time Falcons receiving record passing. You Falcons Legend Roddy White in the process. What more can we say about Julio this. Is this guy especially when you see the news about Antonio Brown's from the stomach coming out like it. What do you think Julio Means to this to this team into this offense while one more thing we can say about him is remember how he couldn't score touchdowns. Everybody wanted to bash him in stuff. He's I believe got six six straight games scoring touchdowns in the active or that what most active streak whatever you call it active leader active leader yeah so he's he's got the six game streak in everybody's gone silent on that front in its its glorious. He's got the most receiving touchdowns on the team this year. you know it's just like another. Julio Jones Year where he's going to go off in you know. You can't be more proud of him because it's like He. He's I've said it before. He has diva talent like He..

"Washington redskins. I'm w and i am joined today by one of our writers. There's and our photoshop aficionado our very own evan burchfield evan how're you doing. I'm doing great in as we started off the last few shows <hes>. I'd like to remind everyone that we glossed weld straight preseason games consecutively next week will be lucky number thirteen and so it's quite the record. Actually it's remarkable. We have to go by two thousand sixteen right to to get the last preseason win yeah. It's it's weird. I mean. I don't even think it gets a bad thing. It's just weird and it's i think a lot of fans will get hung up on it but preseason regular season starts. Nobody's care here next preseason. When we go for fourteen straight yeah. We have to lose the next one so we'll see backups do in week four but at this rate yeah thirteen straight losses seems seems like a distinct possibility so we're we're gonna talk about this third preseason game the quote unquote dress rehearsal game that many fans point to and say hey. This is the game where you know. The offense actually starts putting in some plays and they actually gain planned a little bit. I think some of that's overstated overstated. <hes> that used to be the case but i'm not sure it is as much the case in the n._f._l. These days <hes> the falcons went to this game. They did play a lot of starters but some key guys were out such as julio jones devante didn't play nearly as many snaps as the rest of the starters <hes> we had <hes> either smith taking the majority of snaps running back. Dion jones was still out <hes> so i think across the board you know there were some key guys that were missing but before we get into all well that i wanna talk about. I think what is arguably the hottest topic coming out of the game on thursday night and that is the performance of <unk> giorgio vecchio <hes> he had a correct me. If i'm wrong evan a thirty nine yard field goal attempt that he missed yet <hes> and and his extra point attempt was even though he made it looked like it barely made it through he is now a believe four of eight great in the preseason on field goals <hes> which is incredibly concerning and we sort of saw the chorus of fans last night <hes> ah basically universally saying it's it's time to move on it is time to find another kicker and of course the one name that many any fans immediately went to was bright and of course for those who don't know evan is one of the if not the biggest bryant fans in the world whose last name is not bryant bryant. We do not catch you. You're married to the man yeah does not count <hes> but at this point you know we are a few weeks away from the regular season evan. What do you you think i know. You've got some strong opinions but it is is to vecchio done is he. Is he cooked yes. He is well for now at least <unk> one of our other writers <hes> adnan. He brought up a good point. Actually i believe it was him. <hes> you know the buccaneers when they drafted data guadagno. Who in college was i mean you can make an argument. He was like the greatest kicker in college football history definitely modern college football history history in you see how he turned out. He lost his confidence and i don't even think he's league anymore. <hes> it can it happened that quick into right. That's such you know like we talked about on the last couple of shows. It's a mental game at that position in the second. You think you're done you. You really are done <hes>..

"I am w and i'm joined today by one of our writers and the photoshop aficionado of talk of our very own evan burchfield evan how you doing. I'm doing great. We're on eleven game losing streak it. It's it's pretty. That's a pretty stunning statistic when you say out loud at this point. I don't even think it's a bad thing. It's just kinda like weird. It is it is is something else that's for sure eleven and honestly i think if we get twelve thirteen this could be shocking at all <hes> with with with these falcons so <hes> this past thursday night thursday august fifteenth the falcons hosted the new york jets in the technically the second preseason game. It was the third for the falcons since they did play in the hall of fame game to start off the entire n._f._l. Season this one was interesting and i think interesting interesting in a bad way for many people <hes>. Let's start with offense because i think that's what garner line of attention from from fans so <hes> evan just some quick thoughts on what you saw from the offense initially maybe that you didn't like seeing that you did like seeing just it's just a high level thoughts before we dive into some specifics. <hes> matt ryan looked great but also took way too many shots because he offensive garbage <hes> in he continuously took shots in for some reason. They left him out there when i don't know if they were just hoping the offensive tens of line was going to be like okay we see he's getting destroyed back year. Maybe we'll all of a sudden be better but he was thinking way too many shots <hes> even scrambled <hes> <hes> in god in god tackled from behind or whatever and that kind of like gave me that nervousness in my stomach like oh yeah this doesn't count <hes> but the offensive line terrible <hes> what i can remember off the top of my head tyson umbrella looked terrible <hes> west schweitzer there was was one <hes>.

evan falcons matt ryan tyson umbrella new york
