"Yeah, I still can't believe severe and identifying. I mean, half time at all traveled, I'm thinking. My goodness. Who is this team won 6 previous Europa leagues? And then look at us, look at them. Absolutely flying. There's everything to win. Unfortunately though, I think I would back city. Okay? Rubber. Absolutely. Yes, the manager has done a good job since he's been in charge, but the city would win this quite comfortably severe. I've got some decent players, the manager has done a decent job. They've got the crowd right behind them, and they have a belief that they can win the Europa League, but not good enough. Gab. Look, I know it's a cliche, but 90 minutes of football, anything can happen. It's easy to forget Manchester City, maybe the best team in the world. They may win the trouble, but they played 35 games in the Premier League this season. And guess what? Did they win 35 out of 35, 34 to 35? No. They won 27 out of those 35 games. And many of them were against that they didn't win, were against teams that are probably worse than Sevilla. So, you know, take that into account when making predictions for finals. You still have to go out and play them and win them. But. There would be overwhelming favorites. I love that you guys take these questions from our viewers very seriously. It's fantastic. For all. No. I didn't mean it to be.

"Okay, Rafa, you're smiling there. No, I agree. Best only is an excellent player. He can play as a left sided center. If John stone steps into midfield, past stony would come across and be an excellent left sided player. And I agree with get better than a kanji. Martinez has been an excellent form if it was inzaghi picking the team and playing two up front. Martinez would get in it alongside Harlan. So absolutely right, gab. I'm not sure about the goalkeeper, but who worries about goalkeepers. Are you okay with this, Stevie? Your forward line? Yeah, I have no problem with Anaheim and Boston. Absolutely got my way a 100%. However, this question should be how many of the players gets in the months 18? Even four four two, you can not have low channel Martina's ahead of Julian Alvarez. And you can't just see Qatar. Julian Alvarez scored the goal in the World Cup final. Hold on. Hold on. Arguably a bigger game than the Champions League Final, the World Cup final. And he scored a goal in it, so I don't see that Martinez gets any team. Four four two or four three three. All I can say is, I think when you play for Manchester City, there's an evident multiplier effect. A kanji's been phenomenal. This year last year, he was another defender on a bad Borussia Dortmund team that couldn't defend well. Let me flip it around. It flouted had been man city the last 18 months instead of Julian Alvarez. Might he be a better player than Julian Alvarez. I don't know. For me, this is a guy who scored 25 goals the last two seasons. This is a guy who's come up really, really big, so many times for inter and Alvarez as a guy who sits on the bench. Admittedly for Manchester City. So if I go four four two, I'm sorry, I'm going to pick a starter to be a starter. There you go, Stevie. All right. There's a lot more target about all of this on the latest Gavin dual show. Make sure to download that wherever you get your podcasts. You

"Me start with you then rob oh. Yeah, so you talked about tactics and not always important, but I thought not only did Manchester City play at an intensity that Real Madrid didn't like. They also won the battle tactically because they got John stones to play in midfield with Rodri. They went three versus three at the back. So Rodrigo was up against a kanji that Benzema up against Diaz and on the right hand side, it was Vinicius junior against hawker. And Pep Guardiola said, okay, we'll leave three at the back. John stones into midfield. And that's where we're going to create the overload. And unfortunately for Real Madrid, Tony Crowe went so deep, he sat in front of the two center halves and tried to stop Harlem playing. So they had three players against one, and it meant that Rodri and John stones could dictate the pace of the game because Valverde was going against gundam and moderates was going against Kevin De Bruyne. So not only did they get the tactics wrong, when they were in those positions, the positions, they didn't defend it very well. When you saw the first goal, Bernardo Silva ran off the back of camavinga, he ran off the back of crows, moderates didn't understand what was going on in that situation. So overall, Real Madrid didn't defend well, but it was a masterclass from Manchester City in terms of how they overloaded the midfield. When they got the ball wide, they got two players to go out wide against the likes of Bernardo Silva and Grealish. And then they played it infield. It was just magnificent football played at high intensity. And of course they won the ball back very quickly and Real Madrid really struggled in that first half. It's understandable why Jack Grealish has said they feel unstoppable right now, Stevie. Yeah, they certainly played like that. It's a combination of one side being just so good and another side. Not really doing the job properly that angelotti wanted them to. You know, it's one thing to sit behind the ball. But eventually you have to stand firm and then you have to close the ball. Nobody in a black jail either of those things. They just were they fell further and followed deeper than the box and then nobody stepped up eventually to try and stop a pass or to show up whatever it may be. And sometimes when you, when you play a defensive game like that, you sometimes get the impression that because you've got numbers there, you're safe. But when you fall into that trap, it doesn't work and you just saw, you just saw one team at the best and another team doing something that I don't think the particular degree and maybe they should have started the game higher up the field. Ancelotti said he's criticism, obviously for not starting the likes of rudiger after their first leg. What we saw from him on harland. What did enchilada get wrong and would it have made a difference anyway? I just think they started too deep. You know, you could argue with me that man city pushed them back, but at the same time, it didn't take an awful lot, said he was just walking with a bog till till he got up at 25 yards. And then maybe sometimes there was somebody coming to Mika and attempting to challenge. I mean, you're asking, you're asking for trouble. I think they got their starting positions wrong. No question. Because the deeper you are, even when you win the ball on the other occasion, whether it's good play or whether somebody just missed controls it, you can't get out, you're too deep. You're under too much pressure. You can't afford to start trying to pass the ball in your own penalty box when there's so many bodies. So I think 100% the biggest problem they had was the starting position was far too deep. Do you agree robot? Absolutely. I said that before. Tony Crowe wasn't doing anything. He wasn't challenging anybody. And then when it did come around the penalty box and the top third of the field, he then didn't make the right decisions. Modric was and I mean this in the kinase. He was frightened of the game. He didn't want to go and press too up the field because he knew he was going to be played around. So he dropped even deeper, which again allowed John stones and Rodri. And if you allow man city to have freedom of the middle of the park and they can pick out their passes, it was going to be easy for men cities eventually to open them up. When you're playing against men city, you have to have a game plan, which makes them predictable. And I thought the game plan should have been that Rodrigo would come in field and Mark Rodri and say let a can you have the ball. And then he passes it to lock them down one side of the field. And it's much easier to defend when you lock a team down one side of the field. But they didn't do that. They allowed man city so many easy passes and it was only a matter of time before men city scored. Gab we've asked you to put together a combined 11 of the two teams that are in the Champions League Final and that question is, did any interplay as make it into this 11? And the answer is yes. Talk us through it. I had three inter players in there and I'm sorry, but I do feel they need to fly the flag a little bit. I went with onana ahead of Edison obviously not much in it, both outstanding goalkeepers, but odan has kept so many clean sheets in this competition. And I think Edison's had the odd wobble and I'm consuming many goals. At the back, three of the four are obviously banned city that want you to expect Ruben Diaz stones. You can put them in midfield if you like. I stepped up occasionally. Walker, I'm not sure he's going to start, but I think what we saw in this legacy deserves to be there. And I had Boston because you know what, if you're going to have a center back Mark masquerading as a left back, I like bostonian better than a kanji there. From there, the midfield, as you would expect, it's all city, Rodri, and de Bruyne angry relation Bernardo Silva. No argument with Holland up front. I do have the luxury by playing four four two of having another forward. And so I'm going to pick lautaro for it, but that's simply because I take a lot of ahead of Julian Alvarez because this isn't cutter. This is going to be Istanbul and lautaro has been on fire.

"Dev scarring at the right end this time. I don't know whether to pass or to finish better. I like this Phil. At 89th minute. You can see Newcastle got the pitch. Yeah, almiron, nice little run. Passive defender, perfectly changed the pass for Wilson, who perfectly tamed these run as well. Right here is on shade. And he's got a long time to think about this, but keeps kilt. Slots of plastic keeper. And then Wilson would actually be involved in the next goal. He's going to lay it off for Bruno game Ayres. Yeah, it's good sound fall would play from Wilson, game outdoors comes late. Post time and to the back of the net. For one, the you know what? It could have been more. Newcastle can secure Champions League football on Monday if they beat Leicester, they're now third with 69.4 ahead of Liverpool, big scenes as well at the end will get Stevie slots on that in a minute. It's a James's Park. For what it finishes, let's take a look at how the standards are looking for bright and their loss means that they remain in €6 as it stands right now, but they do risk villa and spurs closing the gap on them as it stands. Okay, Robert what did you make of this game? A big win for Newcastle, one that they needed. They looked like they were very, very happy to have had that today the way they were celebrating at the end of it. And there had been happy when they saw the Brighton lineup because the Brighton made several changes. And the way Brighton played played into Newcastle sounds. They pressed high up the field. We know Brighton want to play out from the back. But there's a way of playing out from the back and there's football in suicide, which they committed because they were almost trying to play key ball in their own penalty area. And Newcastle knew that. And they won the ball back time after time after time. Then they won three kicks, then they won corners and with the delivery deliveries from Trippier into the box, they were always going to cause a problem. Brighton didn't get going until the second half when they brought on the substitutes. And they started to play beyond the pressure. But over the course of the game, Newcastle played an attempto that Brighton didn't like, they looked at threat whenever they got the ball into the front areas. I thought it was a very good performance for probably 60, 70 minutes by a Newcastle and Bryant had a 20 minute spell where they played a little bit better. But overall, Newcastle fully deserved the victory. They like what you see from U castle today, Stevie? Yeah, absolutely. It was kind of a, it was kind of a game between the two shades that I've sort of stuck with head above the pilot this season and Newcastle came out on top deservedly. As I said, hello. It was four one, but it could have been 6 or 7. And brain had just become a little inconsistent and losing too many goals. Just dropping off that little bit. Yeah, okay. Well, let's get our thoughts then on the top four, but first before we do, just wanted to ask you, Stevie, I know you were happy with the performance. But after the final whistle. I don't understand. You're a little bit upset with this. Well, you're a girl. But I'm watching this and I'm thinking, I was just the last home game of the season. Because it's not even just the players, it's like all the cool stuff and the doctors and everybody. And I'm thinking, oh, it must be the last game. So they've got another game at home. Why do they all walk in the hallway around the field? I mean, that's what you do in the last game of the season. He walked round the field and you applaud the crowd and thanked them and not after every gear seems like every game now everybody's doing it. Is he being miserable, robot? Well, walking around the pitch, taking your shirts off and throwing it to the crowd, you're almost celebrating that you've won something or that you're always going to get into the Champions League. The only thing I would say is lots of teams now, particularly in the Bundesliga, they go to the edge of the penalty box and they hold hands, Juventus used to do it for a lot of the times under Khan say they run towards the fans and go on their knees. They do that every game when they win. But that was a totally different celebration. That was almost saying and Steve was absolutely right. You had to question it. Is this the last game? Is this a lap of honor? What are they doing? So they have to be a little bit careful of that. It's not quite the right attitude. I don't think. God, are these two being grumpy? See? Not just me. Thanks Robert. I don't know. It is the kind of thing. I mean, obviously, you know, on the Gabby gill show, we sort of did our percentages and we thought, you know, we had united, I think, at 85%. And a Newcastle at 75% because we thought they could possibly drop points against Brighton. Last game of the seasons, Chelsea away, just don't know what you're going to get with Chelsea. This is the kind of thing where I'm just wondering in terms of karma, you know, are you kind of perhaps inviting bad faith here? Because I know yeah, you can win it on Monday night against Lester, but Lester desperately trying to find points to stay up. So you'll be facing a very motivated opponent if something goes wrong there, I wouldn't put all my eggs in the Chelsea basket away from home. So it is a bit unusual to see. Okay. Let's take a look at the top four. I'd say you don't have to apologize. I'm not apologizing. I think it's a bit too much. I think the funds are brilliant at Saint James's Park. And the players were just saying, thank you very much for all your support. Newcastle, big favorite of these teams here to finish in the top four, as I mentioned, they can secure it on Monday if they do beat lesser. So let's take a look at what is to come for them. We've got Leicester City. They'll be back at home cheering the funds on again, no doubt. For all of you guys, and then they round the season out against Chelsea. As for Manchester United, the Bournemouth and its Chelsea and Fulham, Liverpool Aston Villa, and then a way to Southampton. Deliver Paul have any chance at all robo. They have a chance, but a very slim one, and I think Manchester United will get enough points that Liverpool can't catch them. I think that Newcastle will go and win their game against Leicester and qualify for the Champions League.

"23 to one on shots, labor coups and trying to find a way through could not do it, finishing nil nil on the night one mil on aggregate, a very stubborn Rome aside, gab Mourinho has done it again. How does he do it? I think a lot of what Steve said about Seville about team spirit about belief about getting the fans behind you that is a huge part of it. This role aside, you know, they didn't play particularly pretty football when everybody was fit. Now that they have a kajillion injuries and absentees and whatever. And he's kind of holding the team together with masking tape. Are they going to play good football now? No. But it's okay because he transmits to be transmitted to them that the passion, the belief, they go and they defend. And if you're a well drilled defensive team and you sit deep, it's hard to score against you. And all of Bayer Leverkusen's pretty football in the end didn't enable a breakthrough. Would it work in a league? I don't think so, which probably explains why Roma are where they are in San Diego. But in a two legged cup tie, sure it can work. And Mourinho does it again. It's a tremendous achievement when you think about it. And I don't know, maybe next year is he can make plans for Champions League Final at Wembley. Well, that's the way it's going right now. When you take a look at the odds for the final in Budapest on May 31st, pretty much even Steven severe against Rome or what a lovely Europa League final that is set to be. What are your thoughts on how this is going to play out and who's going to win at gab? Who are you going for? I think a lot is going to depend on how many of the injured guys are back for Roma. If you have dibala and the team, this is a very different side. Obviously Sevilla has been a lot better under Mandela if they can hurt you in different ways. And of course they have the pedigree. And by the way, at this point, we can say it is that severe crest. It's not unaware or whoever they have in charge coaching them that wins the league. It's the actual, it's the actual crest that does it. But I think maybe role might have a slight advantage because of Mourinho and $50 by otherwise for me it's a coin toss. Yeah, Sevilla are very magical. "That shouldn't happen. That's pure fish here, and that's caused a Kuna. As I said, the police in the final. And so this is how it looks. Once again, it's their competition. It always feels with the Europa League. They are through to the ugly final for the second time in four years. It's their 5th appearance in the last ten years and in that final in Budapest on May 31st day we'll be taking on Roma who sorrow out their tie against labor coups and what would you expect the second European final for José Mourinho and Roma in as many years? What a crazy game this was Gavin the way it all played out, but in the end, should we have been so surprised that it's Sevilla going through? No, I mean, I thought they were the better team in the first leg. You know, obviously usually just getting that equalizer and what like the 7th of the injury time. And this time around as well, I thought they outplayed you of it for stretches. That said, I love seeing somebody getting sent off for a second yellow for time wasting. I think it's ridiculous. There's no point having the rule in the box because it's nothing you never, ever, ever see. If your time wasting, your risk for yellow, you know, whether you have a yellow card already or not, having yellow should not be a license to continue time wasting forever. What a big heart you've got. I know hang on, I was so excited about it. I forgot to introduce both of them. We have dev marcotti and Stuart Robson with us, but Stevie go on. Your response to that. Why? My why should you be I mean, come on, God, you can't mean that. Listen, the referee. What's the matter? How often do you see this happening? Oh, you've got to do that. I don't extra time have a one with a guide. See, look. I'm sticking on an extra minute. And if you don't, if you do it again, then I will give you another yellow. In my opinion, that's the way you handle it. Not just to Tom roan and give him a yellow card. Come on. And then that's him done. Because if you wanted a referee and you're going to have somebody sent off the field in such an important game, then you better deserve it. And you can't tell me that him trying to erase a little bit of time on the throne. He deserves to get sent off and missed the final. Come on. Go on, grab quickly. You can respond to Stevie. We don't know if how many times he warned them about it. But I do think, because it's something you never see, I do think players take it as licensed to do it as they please, once they're on a yellow. That says, I like the idea of just adding time on at the end. And I think we saw it in the World Cup. I think that's something that would help. But we wouldn't have this problem if we stopped the clock and we went down that route. Robo, you can obviously weighed in on this discussion between these two, but also the fact that severe with the season that they've had are through to the Europa League final. Well, mendele bar has done brilliantly. Since he's taken over. We saw severe early part of the season and they had a lot of tech is the first manager Sam Paul he couldn't get them going. May looked an absolute shambles. They were the crowd were getting onto the team. They were changing the team week in week out. And since he's been in charge, I think they've only lost one league game. And they've been excellent in the Europa League and today. I totally agree with gav on who should have won Sevilla with a better team. They had better players on the field. They played better football. They played with a greater intensity. They got more crosses into the box and they thoroughly deserved to win the game. So I'm police form. Who do you side with on the argument of that second yellow card though for Acuna robbo? A bit of both really, you don't want players time wasting, but also I would say that I fully agree. Why waste your time booking a player? Just add more time on because I don't actually think it works for teams when they waste time because you've got to keep your concentration going for longer. There was 8 minutes, I think, added on four minutes for the extra time. That was probably 5 or 6 by the time they got to the end of it. Sometimes by trying to waste time, it actually penalizes your team because you've got to concentrate for longer. You've got tired legs tied minds. I don't think it ever works trying to time waste. So I would agree with both to a certain you don't want time wasting, but I think it was I'm not sure he was wasting that much time to get a yellow card. How bad is this for you? I mean, I think in the grand scheme of things I given what they've been through given the fact that at least for now, they're back up into second place in Syria. I don't think it's the end of the world. It's another really poor performance. After what was certainly a better performance at the weekend. But this is max Oleg Reese. Everything is about defending and it's about individuals bailing you out and so on and you can go and praise their character for fighting until the very end. But it doesn't change the fact that this team is less than the sum of its parts. And it's a big part of the reason why I think most people will view this as a very disappointing season for Juventus, even if they do end up finishing second and they do end up avoiding the point penalty. Let's just talk a bit more about severe if we can then rob. Obviously you've been covering La Liga with the ESPN+ this season tenth in La Liga and yet they've said goodbye to Manchester United. Now goodbye to Juventus, how have they done this? Change the manager. I think he's simplified things. They've got to get a better game plan. Remember at the start of the season, after last year, I thought they were a good side for the last two or three years. Then they lost all their defenders. Couldn't they be in one of them? All their best defenders went a lot but didn't get them going saint Paulie came in and tried to change things and the players obviously didn't respond to him, so he went as well. They played some pretty poor football. Again, they changed their team week in week out. Now they've got a more settled side. Now they play a more simple game plan. And you have to give credit to the coach. He's calm on the side. The players are calm, they've got the crowd right behind them again. And I think they've done a fantastic job. You talked about tenth. That's brilliant for them. Considering where they were only about 7, 8 weeks ago, they could easily be relegated. Now they're in tenth position. They're in the final of the Europa League. What a great job he's done. Do you know it amazes me how I think too many people when they think about coach and they don't understand that half the battle is about putting your team together, getting your players to play through each other and getting them as a solid unit. You know, we keep talking about tactics and who does this and pep does that. Some of these does this, but you know what, what this guy's done at Sevilla has got the group together because as gab was saying that Juventus are not the sum of the parts, this team, how many of these players are you pulling out? I mean, these players really are going to go and move somewhere at the end of the season. None of them. But you know what? As a unit as a team, being together, I mean, you saw the look on the faces of the illness at the end. That's just team spreader. You don't always need the best players. And you don't always need the best tactics and all that nonsense. If you've just got a unit that police for each other, watch for each other, back to each other up, never gives up. All of those great things that are just inside. If you can pull that together, you get a severe. And Sevilla, we know what they are different beast when it comes to the Europa League, but we also know what José Mourinho is when it comes to cup competition and finals as well. Mill mill it finished between Bayer Leverkusen and romer and just take a look at this.

"Welcome into the latest edition of ESPN FC, Stevie nichol, here with me in the studio. I'm Kate mori, what a show we've got for you today. So much drama on a Thursday, but we will start with the Europa League, second leg semifinals. First game, we're going to be bringing you Seville taking on Juventus tag one one after that first leg between these two sides wonderful scenes at the Sanchez pijuan as you would expect. This is just in first half stoppages, though, Stevie. Did this challenge from quadrado, merits a pen on Oliver Torres. Well, I've got to see that he's watching it. He touches the ball. Personally, I don't think he was going for the ball. I thought you should have been a fur anyway. So if you're feeling pretty aggrieved going into the second half or in the second half now, you see there, do some vlavic coming on, made an instant impact. Scores for your ventus with a little chick. You know, having sat on your back seat and watched the game to be able to come on and such an important time. And with pretty much your first touch, have that confidence to check the keeper. Incredible. That had put them up to one on aggregate but then soon so did this. Just, I mean, it's accurate and there's no question, but just the pure piece. Such a clean streak. As good as chairs and it was in this game, not even he was going to get close to this. Just paste beat some. But you talked about how good chesney was in this game. Look at this. We're in the final seconds of the 19 tips this one over tremendous theory. Yeah, nice little glance in here. It keeps his eye on it, gets that big hand up there, touches it over the bar, super sieve. Again. Into extra time we would go. Eric lamella heading in severe leading to one. Well, it just takes a little gamble runs on the ball. Pretty much fains lamella, but what? Right off the meat of the bar down into the ground until the back of the net. Three, two, on aggregate. It was at this point. This is an interesting moment. So we're going to take you to the 115th minutes of you just trying to wind down that clock right now. Acuna taking his time with the throw in, he gets a yellow card for time wasting it's his second yellow of the game and he sent off and you were not happy with this moment. The referee has to know who's on yellows and who's not. And he's cost this guy a police. And the final. I'm pretty certain the referee has forgotten that he's on a yellow because

"In the end between LA galaxy and Barcelona. If it does go through, what type of player are they getting, LA? Well, they're getting more of a ride back than what they have right now. It doesn't mean that Julian araujo is going to step in and play for Jules Conde because Juliana wouldn't be eligible to play until the summer anyways until after the summer. But it does give them a natural right back. And closer to what Barcelona is probably trying to figure out or fine. And that is a player that is a true outlet down the right hand side. That is why Julian araud does, he's good on the ball. He likes to get forward. He likes to provide service. He will add himself to the attack. Now the big question is, is he at this sort of level? And we won't see this right away. But I think it's going to be to the advantage of Odell, but I'll hold that he's going to be able to at the very least train with the team and get used to what the training situation is. What the style is. The speedo play. Everything that shall be wants them to do before he says to perform out on the field. It'll give them time to get used to his surroundings in terms of the play that you're getting is a guy that could potentially answer a question for Barcelona, but that's a big if. We need to see whether Julian is able to then find that sort of level. And I'm not sure that you can compare Ellie galaxy with Barcelona at this point. So it's going to take a big jump, but they believe that he's capable of doing it. And we'll take a look at what lineup defensively shabby will put out this weekend when Barcelona are in action and then of course next week as well in the Europa League. These are Thursday's Europa League results with the first knockout

"You know, as I said, unless unless you drop to the edge of your box, then you're in trouble, basically. I tell you how well he's playing, when he got free in the second half down the right hand side. He takes a first touch for I'm thinking this is going back pose back of the net. And he mis hits the ball and puts it in the 20th row. That was surprising. It's gone to the point now to where when he gets in a gold scoring position, you are expecting it's gone in the back of the net. And to see him missing the manner in which he did, it was kind of like, no, no, no. Marcus, we don't want to go back to that level, huh? You have us used to something different now. He is playing at an outstanding level and consistently good for Manchester United. He was filed as well by Jules kunde in this one, but nothing was given ten hag was upset about that decision Mario. What did you make of it? The moment when gune came, I think I also know that he came in late. He came in really late and half must and that's why he got booked for that. But the moment is, I just see Russell was going, his focus was going, he wanted to strike it. I'm sure that he wanted to strike it. But can they push them over? And he was close, even getting a red dot for that. And I know people will say like, oh no, it wasn't timely. He was like, he know he was like, can I open a red? Absolutely. It was a free kick. And what actually did not help the referee was that almost, I think it was, I think it was, in fact, it was straight after that. Barcelona go up the field and exactly the same faux happens outside the man united box and the ref gives a free kick. You can see every single man you need to find thinking the same thing hold on a minute. It's the exact same one, except you didn't give that, but you give that one. That happens to you. You go crazy, right? Lose my head where that happens. Surprise surprise was the game being played. Barcelona. However, wait a second because Barcelona fans would argue, what about the handbook by Fred? Well, because it wasn't. What? Talk to us about the humble by Fred. A second. The rules are of a shot. You shot sleeve as designated basically. As long as you get to the one. So it's not a foul. No. First of all, it hits below this leave and second of all. There's an actual arm movement by Fred that goes tours about which we rarely see in a handful that actually the arm goes towards the ball. I think that was a no doubter handball. Yes. His hand goes towards the ball. Mario, you're the decider on this one. Yes or no. I have to give you a handful. I gotta go to the other one. You know what? Why is his head dead high speed? Tell me why. Why is it that high? He doesn't have to beat it. I don't think the height of his arm is going to do it. The fact that it hits his jails is the point I'm making. But Jersey. Listen, that's your opinion. My opinion is, and guess what? It's wrong. Guess what? The referee. And the civil opinion. Oh wait, wait. Wait, wait, I do beg your pardon. So a couple of days ago, you're going crazy on bar, and today you're using it as you're supporting argument. Oh, she's just going to guess. No, no. Every Visa joke. You can't do that. No, I can't do that. But what I'm saying is don't use it as a supportive argument. It hits his arm. Below his Cersei. That's exactly what it is. Below his Jersey should have been an egg. I agree with what you said initially, but it hits the arm below. That's a penalty. Var is there to support the referee. And to get the right decision. So you can't see, oh, don't lean on me. Because that's exactly why you've got amazing. It's amazing when you take this recent approach approach with var now, we need to. Let me finish. He looked at the screen. And then eventually he came back and he said, no pen because the guy was being pushed on his shoulders. And I was like, I looked at the reply. I was like, no. No, no, the head just. I love how these two are bashing var, right? Yeah. We have hard. We've had so many good decisions from and I'm willing to stick my neck out and see that not one of the two of them once var to go away. But yeah, the set in here and using fire is an excuse. Wait, why am I leaving? Wait. Hold on, I'm strong. I don't lean on it. And the fact is, the guy in Navarre couldn't tell either Fred or else he would have given a penalty. So that's why we use fire. So if you want to see its apparently, that's fine. I'm just seeing, you can't go slaughter environment from the particular reason. First of all, are you now done? May I go? Yeah, you can go. Okay. I'll give you. Right. I'm not slaughtering bar. I'm slaughtering you. I'm not slut. What did he say? I am saying that you are now using var to support your argument. Correct. Which you don't do regularly. That's all I'm saying. It has nothing to do with VAR. And I'm saying that they got it wrong. I'm saying they got it wrong. They didn't see it. And have we seen the AR get it wrong before? Yes, we have. So I think there was a handball. I think it was a penalty. All right. All right, we were going to leave that one there just for the main man thought you were wrong. The camp was full today with 90,000 in the stadium, Stevie. I think that probably had something to do as well. They said Europa League tie that nobody was interested in. I'm not going to pump on you, Stevie, don't worry. You don't deserve it. Don't look at me for so far now.

"In arsenal loses in the Europa League. I'm the enforcement I'll have that story more coming up in Bloomberg's boards. That's all straight ahead on Bloomberg daybreak Asia on Bloomberg 11 three O New York. Bloomberg 99 one Washington D.C., Bloomberg one O 6 one Boston, Bloomberg 9 60 San Francisco, Syria's exam one 19 and around the world on Bloomberg radio dot com and via the Bloomberg business app. It's the final day of the trading week in Asia. We made it. We've got the market in Australia starting to open right now a little bit of weakness for the ASX 200. We're an hour away from trading in Tokyo and in Seoul. If you're joining from the region, good morning, I'm Doug prisoner at the Bloomberg interactive broker studio in New York. In Hong Kong, I'm Rashad salami, the Bloomberg fabrication presented by interactive brokers interactive brokers clients are an interested up to 2.58% on the idle cash in their brokerage accounts visit IBKR dot com slash interest rates to learn more. So the Bloomberg's Brian Curtis and I guess the big story today is going to be the BOJ. Well, that's coming up. Yeah, that's something to think about. At the moment, the big story is the earnings, which you guys will detail in a moment. And I'm actually puzzled about this that NASDAQ 100 futures are only down about 7 tenths of 1% and S&P E minis only down a little more than a half a percent. I would have thought, given the really rough ride that Amazon is having in after hours, it's moderated, some of the losses, but still down 12% at the moment in after hours. That that was going to feed through to a very tough day for U.S. markets tomorrow because it's not only Amazon, but many other companies. However, Apple initially traded lower on its earnings, but then rebounded to trade up. And at the moment it's up about four tenths of 1%. So a little bit of a rethink there on the earnings that Apple eventually delivered. The S&P 500 closed lower. But again, the action today would seem to be somewhat moot given the heavy weighting that some of these big stocks have in the indexes as we head into tomorrow. The future is in Asia are all lower. They're not down a lot though. It's pretty narrow ranges. The cash market in Sydney is just open down, but it's only a quarter of 1%. The dollar is flat now. Dollar yen one 46 16, the yield on the ten year treasury tumbled down to 3.91%. So it's going to be interesting today. WTI 88 60 a barrel, dug to you. All right, Brian, thank you. Well, let's get to Amazon after the bell the ecommerce giant said sales for the current quarter will be in a range of a 140 to a 148 billion the street was looking for one 56. You know, this company has been dealing with a pullback in consumer spending, not just where we are headed, but what happened in the last quarter revenue missed projections. We also have to consider sales for the cloud unit. This is Amazon Web Services. Here's Bloomberg's punam goyo. Keep in mind that AWS generates the bulk of Amazon's profit and margins did come into percentage points lower than we're expected. So that's probably why the total margins are much lower than expected. Not to say that they haven't been making those cost saving initiatives or that they're not tracking, but AWS is a big contributor to the miss there. And another troubling spot here operating expenses up nearly 18% to a total of a $125 billion. By the way, that's the 5th straight quarter where expenses increased faster than revenue growth. Rich? Okay, let's have a look at Apple now. It isn't immune to a broader slump in tech. The company posted weaker than expected iPhone and services sales were the iPhone generating about $42.6 billion analysts recording for 42.7 billion. Now, this may worry traders is the iPhone does remain the biggest source of sales for the company as a result. The cloud and otherwise upbeat report overall revenues of Apple grew 8% and it was due to better than anticipated better than anticipated growth in its American wearable businesses. Apple shares initially post market were down about 6 and a half percent before recovering. In fact, last time I checked, they were up by about half of 1%. 5 minutes after the hours, we update global news. Well, the U.S. has

Tottenham Hotspur's Shock Exit Leaves Jose Mourinho in the Firing Line

"We all stein with shock. Exit of Tuneup from the first leg. I watched it that comfortable. Well-managed rested rotated comfortable victory. I absolutely didn't expect anything other today than a than a than a standard victory or whatever ought to get to find that way through the game the way. The game unfolded watches from really toast. You know the when there's two games at the same time yanna both games. But my eyes were focused on this particular match. And we'll get into your nose Interview afterwards we saw what he said afterwards. But just the shock rob of this result and what it means. I mean just real quick look to the lineup robina. Okay you know. It's kind of a safe team. Changes nothing about the ordering belden star ikouebe. Lamelo insult goes back in the side delegate. A stars a number ten and you look at it the first star from this like okay kind of boring but may be understandable and both sides were didn't really impress of course in all the fun happened in the second rob Zagreb looked like they wanted to get back into the game. The football was unbelievable. The goals that they scored incredible the hat trick and it was just shocking to see the spurs side. Just go from trying to go from boring defensive to money's the game two then scurrying panicking and avenue not enough to get the result. An awful night for spurs on mean think of at the three europa league games. Obviously it was supposed resolve smell and there's money ninety three young. I was kinda thinking monday night. Might be tricky one. See them out of a mole probably leash. Civil i'm thinking tottenham tuna little against a very large so abrupt team by the laid role is manager is just going to prison for for ruled so any guy in charge interesting at a couple of reports after game and said it was a spanish players fluid today. They didn't know. And i mean. I kinda wanna go to the big picture. Straight seasons unraveling suspense based off the puck event. Dish disappointing knows london dolby. You've got a huge per game. That is an important competition one to get some silverware to to guarantee champions league football with a with the money that knows how we will with his squad that should be able to go down to the very last four is not too if they do things right. will peace. Who Needs the Europa League Title Most?

"Here's your to win. The europa league manchester united installed his early favorites. Actually co-favorites with spurs english teams. One two three even arsenal getting a better odds to in the euro league van c milan. Let's focus in on those three english clubs specifically their managers. Craig i'll start with you. Which is three need to win the europa league. Most i suppose seventy one hundred in milan because the book is going through. That could be the only reason i passed. Thank josiah marines. When there's the most. Because i think he's the mine under most pressure. His league possession at moment stinks the team's performances have been pretty rotten in terms of on the eye on the country mile off the top four. At one point the talk was others team in the title race and so he needs to deliver something otherwise. He's under severe pressure. I mean you could say well attack. The does he's got cut behind them transition to ask no. I think he's pretty safe there and they talk for. There's no doubt about so. I actually think marinas the mon- needs it. The most stevie you agree they still got a shot at hardware in the league cup final. They got a shot at top six. Maybe an outside shot at top four spurs really. Need this most absolutely think so. Yeah arsenal. yeah we think point lead over you. He's he's got an f. e. cop behind them less than two months ago so he's fine creek said during transition marino. Another honda is is is not in my opinion going to be in the top four. That's why he was brought and it wasn't brought in to do anything else so it's important that he does produced. So we're because that will deflect away from what has jaw was and the premier league and unfortunately for him yes. He's a the problem is they'll position gsa city who nobody wants to face. So i'm one hundred percent we create. This is absolutely marino. And tom mark from the manchester united perspective. Just how important is this to jar. His record and cup. Tournaments is well documented over four in finals. Big without first trophy be. I think it needs to win one soon. Because it's now four years when united trophy on a long time and they always have the opportunity in the kaaba cup of one. One that need is more than tottenham because five years at the champions league. The asked really really the champions football. I it's sick of being semi-finalists are knocking on the door. They're not gonna win the primarily this season to trophies. This is man united. We're talking about. We're talking about the process itself alongside by munich real madrid barcelona as one of the biggest club in the world. The biggest clubs in the world win trophies and is now four years since one. United one one-stroke trophy with the minor the minor cops. Let's be honest. The league company europa league in two thousand seventeen. They haven't won a big trophy since whilst explosion retired. Let's be honest. The two thousand thirteen primarily because even fa co-ops and the von hall didn't really count towards the biggest trophy so united. Need over the start winning again. And i think social really needs it but if he doesn't win a trophy this season i don't think it'll be the end of their old firm. I think you'll still be there. But i do think the to kick on become this team is going to challenge for the majors. They have to win something. So craig no no i just think off the bucket marks point that yet yeah financially obstacle. But we're talking about modules marina for the reasons that steve and i say and and say well and it's a big f because it's not you know some good teams in there. They say it was a year in the league and we lost hurricane and we will see all these excuses. You'll save won the europa league a nuts champions league football because that's the carrot dangled for when the euro league note from a united perspective. As augie said you know when you're polite for them and their historical standpoint is neither here in the last good marino himself. He delivered second-place mandated. Emily he delivered the gop league undesirable cup. So they've done recently. They really need to be the primarily title at least go neck and neck all the way until publiz reasons you take a trophy as a manager and you would take if you united but really the dining a much. Bigger table than the europa league

Just how big was this for arson to advance the round of sixteen in europa league the result of course and qualifying but also the fact that they came from behind. He's he's been very very rare season. I think he was only the second time where they went behind and then ended up winning again we against southampton in the league. The game saint. Mary's but apart from that every time they were behind every time they considered. I couldn't come back and win it so to do that logically would be huge tonight. Plus also the quantification the momentum before the game leicester on sunday and also of course the two goes for obama. Young and the to assists for psychiatry. And i think we need to find you. He is arsenal's best and most important and ask those third goal goal. That takes them to the next round sums it up one more the defender a couple of crossovers defended doesn't know whether he's going to go. Righto left come back onto onto left and picks a fight bullets. It's Ole Gone Wrong: Manchester United lose to Sheffield United

"United losing at home missing the chance to go top of the table defeated by bottom of the table. Sheffield united registering. Just second win of the season craig. I wanted to this happen. Possession but but really never trouble chef united gold out many times. Keep with enough to make that. Many saves chef united defended brilliantly. I mean phil. Jackie ohka failty. I think as robot the years bedtime and recent games is gone back to the tried and trusted in midfield which was from flake and norwood. Those guys have been up to save for parts of the season and that was the fulcrum of of their team last year. And in fact. I said i go back to basics here. This was the chef united. We saw last year scrapping and fighting and defend in trying to feed off scraps the other side and united was sloppy. I mean you look at the second goal it was. I think was go on ahead. So wasn't wasn't buck. I thank you boys was bought. Another joke guzman is so much time in the bulks on two occasions was bar and it was on the players within five yards new-look to and there were sloppy so when nine days doesn't have a sparkling game or russia doesn't have a sparkling game. This united say just lacks the guy that we saw from manchester city yesterday. How do you explain that. Defending the second goal. Steve is really weird. Well you just think in some ways when you play against a team league sheffield united. Who bottom of the league. You've pegged them back and you kind of you kind of think it's just going to happen. You're just going to go on and get the one up and so you drop certainly level of intensity because as far as quality it wasn't really there for united but the intensity was there to get equalizer and i think once they did that just a little drop. And that's what happens you know. Nobody takes the initiative. Nobody you know certainly usually when somebody has the ball at the feet in the box. You'd expect to not just one but two defenders could be gone in either thrown overboard in the line or just making a good solid challenge of get close enough. That didn't happen and that to me is just took a little bit easier after the equalizer thinking the all that to do is just see to score and we see today. Why manchester united win. The title. Worldwide tipped to win the league but craig was talking about. They had fantastic possession but mashes united. Can't handle possession and that's the probably you go. From beating liverpool liverpool keane had initiative. They went up and then scored. But i will also a respect scheffler united for their performance. I mean you could say. They deserve the window game because in the second half would it should be a pressure from manchester united at putting cavan on. There should make all kinds of efforts to get at least equalize. It didn't happen. I can't remember the chef. United goalkeeper had to make any big saves any big interceptions. Sometimes it came for crosses. So i think that that was mentioned uniting loosing on dreadful day of manchester united in the like marcial his buddy which is not even european europa league. Ins- it's down in the go. We don't championship. I can't believe how sometimes goes along on the pitch

"Manchester United and Chelsea qualify for the Champions League. UNITED WITH A to victory over less than meanwhile Chelsea without win against walls sees all. You're going to show and frank. You one of the harshest critics so all. He's proved you wrong, isn't he? Host you? Listen the. You, you can't see that. Qualifying for the champions. League is not success. For, all the Because as You know ended a day. I think the biggest and the main reason why the option because when transfer marquette. Bought Bruno Fernandes without that piece of business. This this would happen so listen. He always asked to coach the team and he obviously had a hand and say Bruno Fernandes Oh yeah as I said. It's success. I'm not convinced that he can take them from from. Champions League qualifies to actually vying for the title against Liverpool in city I still. The way way off and I still think they have to say more players, but yes, but all they get into the champions lease as a success. But he's had plenty of time. Your United Stat Dome. That now. All you early I mean they close form then they all Liverpool, which is incredible thirty two from Bouma. Thirty three away from Liverpool, and it's not the right time in because I think that the well getting into jump and say those incredible finish I agree with Stevie. Bruno Fernandes doesn't come in. At this, all thing is that. Is Jason for Non Stop the season? Why did they wait until John? Rudy Sunan done I will never ever. No nothing deserves credit ease. That's big name. Players go shifted the dynamic inside the dressing room. He's might young is made them hungrier. There have been assigned to watch is not too many egos at the football club anymore, and you have a job on the summer. Trying to convince big plans like will stay on. And then chartwell tracked maybe three or four plans to try and give him so titled Till Next Season Way to they need to add to the squad don. I was still like say them. With a recognized number nine I get the argument where people think that Mason Green was going to lead the line, and maybe the could bring in some more to plan the rights on side because I'm not convinced marcial. Yet again I think the such a good player net. He's not consistent enough. And Watching Higher Maguire today and Victor Lindelof as a pair. I mean less than without James Madison. Pereira without Soyeoun shoe without some of their very best players, another about that was missing volley at Indiana Joe Coast to center offs problems time after time after time, and this under-strength less decide so I would like to see, and if they all going to try and compete again can get closer to the city. "We Win Stadium you will be at home. I can promise you will feel you support. Stay safe. We are still with you and. You'll never walk alone. That was liberal F. C manager Jergen KLOPP in a message released yesterday. That will bring a tear, not just the eyes of his supporters. The dare I say anyone who cares about the most popular sports league in the world. That's right folks. After a three-month hiatus. The English Premier League is back today. Roger Bennett from men in blazers fills us in on these frantic few remaining weeks. So grab a pint and US as sub optimal tour of English soccer. I'm sorry, English football. I mean it comes. It's Wednesday. June seventeenth. This is ESPN daily. Presented by marathon. Roger! Kim's. Are you relieved? Your any skin daily and not my NFL pod, talking about your beloved quarterback Mitch Trubisky You Know God Love Mitch. trubisky is an incredible pressure to be knowing that your whole life is just destined to pan out to become the answer to a trivia question in about ten years, who was taken ahead of Deshaun Watson Patrick Mahomes. Roger Bennett is suffering bears fan. He's also the CO host of men in Blazers on the NBC. Sports Network and the men in Blazers podcast by just braced for him to end up with the green. Bay Packers, leading them on a fourth quarter drive two feet, my beloved Chicago Bears, and I can't wait for that movement. They'll probably deserve it. And we're not talking about bears football today. The wait is over the English premier league. The most Popular Sports League in the world is back after a one hundred day hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic Roger I'm sure you've been getting your fix from Bundesliga but I have to imagine the return of English. Soccer is hitting a little different for you. One hundred days feels like one hundred years to be candid. I've been staring at squirrels running up trees in the park, and feeling the adrenaline burst of a run through midfield, watching raindrops charge down my window and feeling just an incredible wing-play into play of missed from the primarily, but yes, it's back today with its global ratings I mean in Britain for much of Europe for much of the rest of the world outside of the United States, it's kind of a seismic as the NFL and the NBA rolled into with the Pantheon of heroes and villains to moments of glorious ecstasy, searing dispath fuse with dodgy haircuts snack tattoos. One hundred days off. When are going to have ninety two games scattered almost daily over the next couple of weeks. It's coming back because we love it because we miss it. It's coming back for. Hard news commercial reasons ultimately to an economic decision. It's going to come back and ghost game situation where it's fabulous. It's going to be different. The lack of an audience will have an impact on the football. We watched, but most importantly it is going to be good enough. It's GonNa. Be Great enough to connect us to a ruling global conversation and that's ultimately I think. Think we will miss about sports as our calling them. Ghost Games I hadn't heard that got left the Germans. They have a name for everything. Lay. They Call Them Guy Bela. And that is what they will be. Sam Darnold knows a thing or two about those back to English premier league, so we hit positive with most of the season done with exception of Liverpool they're. They're still to be decided. The top half of the table. Seven teams vying for five spots determine who will qualify for Champions League and Europa League which for those who don't know are the midseason European tournaments to be held next year. Roger Liverpool have clinched Champions League. Spot Manchester City has of course been banned from Champions League for Breaking Financial Fair play rules so that. That spot remains open despite city being second in the League. Right now. Arsenal wolves Chelsea Menu Lester Tottenham Sheffield all in the mix. What are you expecting to see from the top of the table? When the race for Champions League qualification, which is a bit like football's march madness, it's big tournament in which the best teams in the world. You're rail, Madrid, your boss Alana's. Para Sanjay Man's by Munich's compete all. Big English teams won't be in that for brand reasons for competitive reasons for commercial reasons and is. And completely wide open at the bottom of the table. All say English football has some Incorr- ellegation, which is if you watch game of thrones? It's a bit like the moon door. Teams get flung through that in baseball, the worst teams every year like the Orioles in the mall in which is flung out of the major leagues, the mooted, and in that place. We had the Tulsa drillers around rook. Rook Express and that is, it's a searing. It is a haunting. It is a savage palm of the global football tradition, and you have six teams at the bottom who are fighting to avoid what can be economically devastating their revenue roughly hauls flung out. The Premier League is savage for the fan base. One Minute. You are watching your team. Take to the glamorous fields, Manchester United and Arsenal the next. Round Brentford Luton Barnsley barring a miracle the Jewish using Norwich canaries will disappear, but there's five teams Aston. Villa Bouma th what furred and West Ham amongst them, two of which will go with them for the big story line. Meena is Liverpool Football Club. American owned little football. Club owned by the Boston Red SOx owners, F S J and their yearning. They're dreaming of a return to greatness that was once titletown by when I was a kid growing up in Liverpool. Just six points away from lending the title that they have dreamed of then. That is the great storyline of the season. On that note. This Sunday. The team that you root for I'm sorry. I'm getting a producer this side you support. Everton, we'll be squaring off against Liverpool. They are twenty five points clear off the other teams in the League, and there's possibility they can clinch the title at Goodison Park Against Your beloved Everton on Sunday

Real Madrid 1-2 Manchester City: De Bruyne seals stunning comeback

"The marquee match up around sixteen in the Champions League remedied versus to city a game. That brings together two of the favorite solitaire for this competition. Match in so many ways. Rob Man City winning two one away at the Bernabeu. GimMe Gimme before. We get into the details of peptic. Cetera is your kind of overall overriding line of this brilliant match. That football at this level Rob Thais level starts then comes down to detail to huge clubs whilst put too many might feel a favorite for this competition and we have to talk about a pet going to his tactical library and pulling out of volume and looking through the pages and deciding what he was going to go and how he was going to go and and what they did but I also thought this was a important night for for Manchester City to send a message to the likes of UEFA and everybody else around you. They're not done yet. They may or may not be in this competition next season but when they play like that with the tactical occupant of the money in charge. They are the team to beat in this competition. I think we had our discussions whether Lepore was the is a key gala to to the maybe William is competition. I still think on any given night. Arsenal Crash Out of Europa League

"Kick things off in the League also against Olympiakos. What a dramatic ending to the game but also without one win in Greece. They didn't they make it through. However Olympia with council out in the second half of this game. See say with the go after avenue for what that would take us into extra-time a brilliant goal from Obama fantastic scissor-kick would make one one on the night two one on aggregate. That would be enough but then arriving in the last minute of extra time would score. That would see Olympia Costco through on the away. Goals robot away the late John Through family. And who you put your house on scoring. How did he puts it wide. Also out of the euro per league. We'll talk to the boys in the studio. And let's stop. Shall we Juliana wrong? Jules we know a big heart piece. Your heart isn't ps some of reserved for arsenal gutted. I think it's a tough nut to take forward the the author funds the of the way happened. Obviously with the the late Gore fall got goose and die by Obama young in the last minute of added time of extra time but also let's be honest. It was a poor performance. I think the attitude was no rights. They looked to be complacent. That no Sean Tiger. For the first one seventy five minutes of that game so in the end is the harsh defeat any Sahara eliminatation but also on the night tonight. There was just off the game too much. Who Do you blame more Stevia Pammy late missile David Lewis and he's defending? I think I think at the end of the day we'll mistakes as players and the players led from the mistakes and what dovid Louise didn't do. He didn't learn from his mistake with the first goal. Because you're in zone regardless of the opposition when the ball comes in your area you have to attack the ball. He didn't do it and didn't learn because the bulls flung again at the end of the game and he didn't attack it so at at an absolutely avid louise. It's an ongoing issue. Without defendants said pieces is a problem area for them and Wyoming end score is a great goal and even after all the struggles that you've had in this game he's gray goal and now you're through. All you have to see is the last two minutes of the match. And then that's it you're going to the next round. It wasn't pretty. It was it was. It must have been learning experience for us. And that's the way that I would have spun this whole story. But you're not able to defend properly said peace and then see you guys later take. Here's the other thing. I was here about Arsenal for whatever reason they thought that after winning the first game the first late one nothing that it was it was all done. That's the way they approach is game as if they had already advanced. The truth of the matter is that where arsenal is right now. They're not good enough to be complacent they're not good enough to like energy. They're not good enough to just be a team that is going to show up and you'll say now we just going to play around on. We'll see our way through to the next round. They're not good enough to be doing that. The players know that but the problem is that they cannot find any sort of consistency with their level of play. One day they look good the next day. They don't look so good one they look okay then the next day. Look what the one thing that they've been consistent about is poor defending set pieces Steve. I'll tell ya after the game. Lambasting his defense four goals conceded in last two matches from set pieces. Surely this is something you can work on in the training ground isn't it? I know that we talked about the personnel. The arsenal have and. It's not good enough but surely this is something you can actually physically help with. On a day to day train. You can work on the train and field all day every day seven days a week but if you have players who don't get it and they'll tell you they get but then they step on the field and continue to make the same mistakes and that's exactly what are still have been doing for the last two or three seasons defensively so the comes at time and I've been seeing all year long. The comes a time when it's not about the tactics or the coach. A suburb and Avid Louise. In particular has shown time and time again. He's making mistakes as a set of bike and it's cost and his team and until there's a change until Louise's moved that position and a better players and as you asked me you can walk all day long on an Infield but if you've got players who can't do the job isn't changing Joe's big picture. How big is this defeat for our so considering you up an argument was a great chance to qualify for the Champions League? Yes huge blow. Because of that obviously because that was maybe the easiest way because they can still finish fifth save city are buying for next. Season's Champions League they only four points behind but you would fancy that competition. So that's used blows so she's reforming ties went because he's a proper step back of why you've been trying to do and the resort. That been okay since he took over. There's been some improvement on the on. The field on the field going forward especially attacking wise defensively still issues and he has an address them well enough at the moment and avenue for him. It will be a setback and I think this issue tonight. Psychologically they go again on Monday night in the ETHICA. That's a hell of a tricky game away from home against a team that would have nothing to lose in a cup game in a hosted environments against the team that is playing really well in the lower leagues but also a team that would love that kept Gammon love trying to put more pressure on us on especially after tonight so the next few games will be very important for the where artists are trying to get his plays back on track for Monday. Here's steve nicol on e._s._p._n. F._c. making the case for man city but yes city still have a stronger squad in liverpool. You could say that they've actually got strong since last year and considering they won the title this to lose and liverpool's to try and take extra step neil. What does our model say about. The primarily grace is mandy the favorite again they are indeed so we give them a a sixty one percent chance of winning. They are the highest rated team. According to the soccer power index they have the best offense in <hes> the ep l. and also the best defense so all of that kind of adds up to to a shockingly high probability of winning. We really think that there's almost no chance that they finished any lower than third or really. Even i mean second. Can they have a like. I said sixty one percent chance of finishing first and then a twenty four percent chance of finishing second so not much room for anything below that but then you know liverpool is relatively close to them in terms of sti so man city has a ninety four point four s._p. That's on a zero one hundred scale and then liverpool the second best team has a ninety two point four so that's kind of a small gap when you consider that the third team tottenham sarah's team and nominally my team mm-hmm has an s._p._a. Of eighty five point three so massive difference in drop off between number two and number three <hes> but still liverpool has a just a twenty-seven percent chance in our model of of actually winning the e._p._l. What did the first weekend of games or the friendly community shield match up between these teams. It's a week ago. Tell us about what to expect. From this revelry in these opening match ups. I mean it is also sort of an open question as to how much we can learn about single soccer matches and i'm always amazed even when we get into the world cup that first sport was so little scoring that the better team tends to win with a good amount of frequency well we're actually in a talk later in the show in the rabbit hole about baseball upsets <hes> and and it's a game baseball is a game with more scoring than soccer and yet according to all the models and just if you sort of look at the the results of games the favorites favorites and soccer tend to win far more often than they do <hes> in baseball and so. I don't know why that is necessarily. I think there's a lot of things things going on about who is controlling soccer game that are not picked up in the scoreline. Necessarily right and advance stats are trying to do that work work. We talk about possession or you know. Further things like expected goals expected assists progressive passes. All of those things that are happening in a soccer are game that are you know sort of. We don't think about them in terms of the scoreline but they're all helping to tell the story so you know these two teams james city and liverpool are the best of those things too so that probably goes a long way to why we have them rated so highly why soccer power index thanks so much of them and they really are. They're returning their very good teams. From last year with slight tweaks slight improvements that you know should get them pretty far. One would think inc beyond the top two teams. There's an interesting dynamic among what we've typically considered the top tier in the ep all those that have been part of the big six for the past couple of beers and then the middle tier teams so our model which uses that sti showed a big gap going into the season between city and liverpool and chelsea and tottenham him that was a gap of about seven points neil said earlier but then there's another big gap of about five points to that next batch of teams manchester united and arsenal now everton which is often just on the outside looking in at the big six is only one point behind arsenal and all and then lester and wolverhampton just a couple of points further back so the golfs there really are between the top two and everybody else right but then three and four four and then this group that could all compete for for the fifth and sixth spots but also the third and fourth spots so you could see some a real shakeup shakeup in the table for the first time in a while we haven't had anyone outside of the current big six finish among the top six spots since lesser one at all in two thousand sixteen which of course was a shock collar bone. They didn't subtle just getting sex. They were like let's just win at all. This season could be even though i think some people are thinking i would sort of boring in city liverpool same thing. It's just a repeat of last year. There could be some really interesting. Things happen in the world of the top soccer teams. I think that's sorta. Uh shows how amazing it was that lester one in two thousand sixteen everyone points to that five thousand one odds they had which is a little misleading. They've really didn't have a one in five thousand chance of winning in a twenty team league. It was just a terrible line and the terrible line was a reflection of the public opinion as all odds and all lines are a reflection of the public opinion. Don't forget that that that no one else outside of this elite group could win that league so why not make the line five thousand one try to get some people the bed on it and they were burned so in many ways it kept that people on us and of course it's obviously gone back to the same handful of teams winning but just showing that it was possible i think was very big for the sport in terms of giving giving fans hope and giving everyone hope which will all all hopes will be diminished by october but at least right now the dream is alive because the lester her yeah well when you think about the history of the premier league which started with the nine thousand nine hundred ninety three season there have been only six winners. It's man united man city arsenal chelsea leicester blackburn and that's it nobody else in all those years and so and they have not been many teams that have even gone into a season thinking. They had a great chance so lesser winning. I think did a huge thing for the league. Now someone what else needs to actually win again someone different come on spurs. The beauty of it is that there are all these like competitions within the bigger competition trying to make it to the level. Were you qualify for europa. League champions league trying to just stay up in the primary league is is often more exciting later in the year so it isn't isn't just like you know another sport where winning is everything. There's many rewards existing in the league which will sort of add excitement in lieu of the playoffs and realistic chance of actually winning the championship and and <hes> having your hopes of doing that at all dashed. You know extremely early into the season season. He can settle some consolation tournaments. I mean what's wrong with that. I think well this goes to my theory about really all sports. There's no shame in rooting for a team that can't win at all and there are lots of other things along the way that makes sports fun. My college football team is not going to win at all but i'm still gonna enjoy the season and be happy when they knock someone off. Whatever and you are going to watch those five thirty eight. <hes> college football playoff odds like a hawk hawk note to me every single week when they go up or down <hes> not that's connected to that's not connected to an actual belief. They're actually going to make the playoff. It's more like well look. It's my team and they're doing well. They're not gonna win. Percent percent chance of making the playoffs. They were on the list nehal all right. I think we can leave that

Soccer: Predictions for Tops Leagues

"All right. I have five predictions that I would put any money on going through them. Number one, arson van Gurley, managing Real Madrid. By the end of the. Season. I love it that amazing. That was a disaster. The Lou Libre thing was a death disaster from when it started their underlying numbers really bad, doesn't seem like he's gonna last. Their vendor has talked about Real Madrid in the past. You know, who else are they gonna hire at this point. So count on that number two. Get ready for the red bull treble as I'm calling it with New York, red bulls, winning the MLS Rb Leipzig who I'm considering part of red bull, even though the club does not like to be called red bull winning the Bundesliga. And Rb Salzburg, winning Europa league. I love that one too. I know I have. I don't have the best reputation for, you know, actually carrying out the bets. But if that happens, Mike Nye or going to one shot, a tall can rebel live on air. I cannot wait for that. I'll I'll say eulogies. Number three, less surprising. Frankie diong and I ex will make a run to the Champions League, semi finals. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, I XE champions. Are they even gonna get out of their their first in their group right now tied Byron. Wow. Okay. Semi-final they've got Totic guys. Legend. Number four. This one pains me Manchester City's gonna win the Premier League Champions League, double the seer. Bets. That's verse jinx shit. I learned from the best put the bay. From the top. City, wait till man, city wins the double not a trouble or could Rupel. I just don't think they're gonna care enough about fake up. Fair point. They are defending care about Cup champions though. Maybe they get the Jack Trevor treble with the character. Treble whomever had the FA Cup Europe or UEFA Cup and Carling Cup shrivel. That was dope. Number five, the soft treble number five.
