"Them. And so is there any suggestion that people had decided to serve explicitly for that route to citizenship? I think some probably it factored into their decision to sign up. America's one of the few countries that allows this the French Foreign Legion. They allow some of their legionnaires to apply for citizenship. After three years Russia has a fast track path for citizenship. For some of their non Russians but America's fairly unique and the irony of not letting immigrants become citizens without them. The army would have failed to meet its goals nearly every year between two thousand and two and two thousand and thirteen so the ranks of non-citizens are not just a a nice to have a bit of extra help absolutely integral to the armed services operations. Absolutely the Department of Defense found in two thousand sixteen non-citizens tend to be of higher quality than their citizen counterparts. They perform better. They have lower attrition rates and are more likely to have skills at the military needs like medical and it expertise as well think ristic diversity. They are absolutely essential to the military. To what will happen with this trend. Is there a chance to Department of Defense will go back on this? Well lengthening the paper trail if not changing the actual requirements. It's a tricky one. The lawsuit is being fast tracked so we may actually have a ruling in the next few months. Which would be great. It might help those already on the path of citizenship. Get back on it. But I fear until there's an actual change at the Department of Defense. The highest levels non-citizens are out of luck and the sad thing is these new policies. Don't make the country safer they harm military recruitment the hurt military readiness and they prevent the United States from utilizing talented residents. Immigrants are not throws me. This year was meant to be packed sporting events but pretty much. The entire global calendar of sports has been white clear by the pandemic rabid fans and for the industry itself. It's been devastating but restrictions have eased matches or starting to happen again with a few changes in the last few weeks. Things have been starting to return to version of normal in countries where lockdown to been eased earlier such as career. Taiwan matches being going on for a few weeks off that in Europe. It was only really the return of the Bundesliga which is Germany's domestic football league. Which heralded the return of sport for Fans Bo? Franklin is Economists Assistant News Editor. Much as me going ahead behind closed doors without any spectators and this has been for the safety of both fans and athletes as well but it's created a few strange situations. What do you mean what? What kind of situations so? When the Bundesliga restarted in Germany the loudest sounds the teams would have heard with being their own players coaches on the sidelines. And the blasts of referees whistles on in Asia where sports have been presuming for the last few weeks now organizers of turn to some strange replacements for spectators in South Korea's domestic football league. They've been piping in crowd noises two stadiums and they've even put mannequins in the stands one team in South Korea's domestic football league was accused of using mannequins from sex dole manufacturer in the stands complete with signs for X. rated websites on the mannequins and in Taiwan local Baseball League has taken to putting cardboard spectators in the stands including printouts of Fan's faces on those spectators. This is something that German teams have been turning to as well fans can pay to have themselves stuck onto the fake spectators. So it's almost like they're so certainly spectators are protected then from from the risks but what about the players themselves. How how is that? Being handled well organizers putting precautions into place to keep both players and other stuff as safe as possible. The obvious things Mosques being used. They're not on the pitch equipment such as footballs being disinfected. But playing any kind of match still brings a huge number of people together for a televised rugby Union match. For example world rugby the organizing body says the at least one hundred and seventy four people needed including water carriers players on camera crews and so this means that plays a kind of existing in bubbles almost in Germany that football teams are being tested for the coronavirus several times a week and and either Found positive has to be isolated and quarantined from teammates. But what about the effect of all of this on the the huge industries that many of these sports represent KPMG estimates the Europe's five biggest national football? League'S STAND TO LOSE FOUR BILLION EUROS. They don't return to play soon but if they do return to play behind closed doors the losses will still be about twenty to thirty percent of a bigger leagues. Tend not to rely on matchdays sales. So that's tickets pints merchandise that kind of thing. England's Premier League in the two thousand eighteen season only realizing it for about fourteen percents of their income but smaller leaks with smaller audiences on TV rely on much they sales much more which for some leagues could be an absolute disaster if they're operating on fine margins and what offends been doing in the meantime when all these matches have been canceled. We have seen some unlikely interests from broadcasters in smaller sports on smaller leagues have restarted already. So Taiwan's baseball. League for example is being broadcast for American fans who come watch any domestic games and South Korea's domestic. Football League is being broadcast by the BBC. In Britain the Times one suo nil listen to that surreal silence. When has victory in the opening game of the season ever been met with that kind of silence but for the meantime the Silver Lining here? Is that people who really want to see. Some sports can or is it still too odd. Even even then fa now sports hungry fans seem to have fixtures back in any form even if that means in MT stadiums without spectators and a bit of a weird atmosphere the first Bundesliga fixtures after the break had their biggest ever international audiences. But if this situation is going to go on for the foreseeable future and lie. Spectators can't return. Is it going to put fans off in the long term to watch games with less of an atmosphere possibly fake fans in the crowds permanently crowd noise being piped in? Is that going to be too unsettling and could put fans off both. Thanks very much for joining us. Thanks Jason.

"The two or three things in play there. We use Whether you you put your economist but I think there is a consensus. We can have a short sharp recession among some and a longer session mixed others but the one thing we certain about his people's one it's will be bruised As a result of this in terms of the ticket PAG public sponsors certainly up looking very carefully at that balance sheets Them Marketing Budget is one of the first things to attack trim and then of course broadcast that looking at the budgets for the remainder of the year and how they can seize oblique screen that amount to content in that period of time. So we're looking at a lot of events in a very narrow window and competing for much more constrained dollar And that's going to be a challenge. Even fool everybody else's being talking about this we're expecting sector this sector to be pretty badly impacted in terms of supply Everybody's hurting from not having the way expected that's for sure we're okay but we don't have any way expected And there are other agencies in that ecosystem hospitals Marketing will production logistics Sorry to say but an ready pains to say but it's true that they make the and we may not be looking at the same supply chain comes Type to the ability to organize and hosts events we think will be challenged because we hope it will be very very limited but the be companies coming back in September October. Able to deliver so all of that kind of Constantine is into a bit of a challenge that sort of Consolidation potentially is going to be across rights event host Bruce Circles Agency sector supply. Here that that is a is a real Wise so the new reality. I guess I'm just want my question if we were if this was a logical world and export was logical in there would be a body a- G. Twenty something that oversees this and puts everything into its into neat packages. Is that supposed to questions? Is there anybody that can do that on? Is it likely that that body will evolve or peer of the next year Well there is a body that coordinates we. We did a piece last waken and I think we were asking. Is it time for some sort of Supra body which not super low good as well but super sits above sports? And of course you've got the likes of the IRC who do sit across a number of sports in the Olympic context but of course you know if football or basketball or included in that is he's not responsible for speaking for the MBA and for for UEFA so icy aside and they do speak for number sports that note there there is no supra sports body which is coordinating across the sports And that I think has become quite painfully apparent In the course of the last four to eight weeks and it's not surprising. Not It's not a criticism. I think I suppose been evolving over decades in terms of that. You're finding that it librium in the yearly calendar around seasonality but also just finding times when major events onto have lapping so he famously of course always had the alden even year distinction which is a very good way of the Olympic Games missing other major championships are the Reputable Cup final But an within within the she you tend to find whenever way working with major rightsholders. I'm looking you events you're asking. That question will win. Should we be who we colliding with that week? And that has taken decades to find that sort of equilibrium and suddenly you have left of NAFTA field on comes covet and suddenly disrupt all of that. Equilibrium throws everything up in the air all at once and everybody rushes to try and find an alternative date for their events but they do that all at once in the same month no one is coordinating so you ever industries have that so yeah yeah I think whether you're talking a national level Darris IT in context of one would the blissfully we haven't had too much. Recently Brexit at European level Certainly significant amounts coordination by the European Union across industries but also retail console him their international trade bodies working within hospitality will travel and tourism. Who Look you know. Working with independent bodies working with quasi government bodies and those bodies those those Entities working on their own accounts as well but they are coordinating so there. There is a common voice and they are at least coming together and thinking together. I think because that really is not happening With within sports so to our knowledge. No-one you know very senior level in Formula One talking with the NBA will the NFL speaking to an ATP or WC or the in that grouping and we think there's a space for that we're having some conversations about how we might find very informal grouping that It kinda light. Your sort of two British National Government level we have Cobra will say each who come together regularly just to spend short period of time pulling all of the stakeholders together and just making sure that there is you know a good degree of coordination. I think that's really what's required and we are having those conversations infomally with clients a refund US sales in positioning into lock in that That shot that we think there's a role for a smaller group of very senior stakeholders covering as many of those big private rights holders in some some of the larger initial federations just to make sure the degree of coordination to avoid this car crash of Canada in September October. But we have fifty to sixty percent undisturbed at sports events. Fifty sixty percent. Mole the normal. That's assuming Goes AHEAD ON PUBLIC HEALTH? Expo virologists so no idea whether we will indeed be back in a position where we can have uni- at ten. But we hope radio pray but we We do but Yeah we do think that is lacking and you say this decent coordination within some sports individual sports as you'd expect so UEFA with the National Heff as the conclusion of the League and European football and in the The Euro Twenty Twenty nine twenty one that that looks be functioning pretty well Tennis after say less so I mean you look at Roland. Garros unilaterally moving because they had to a nate nasties that is going on with it and rescheduled their September. But it's not just me saying it. You read the players saying that. This fed degree of dysfunction in the in the level of organization between so many powerful buddies. Atp W. A. T. F. L. T. A. A. T. C. so it's Kinda reveals whether isn't that coordination even it within a sport amongst its key stakeholders and I think. Federal is out this week. Tweeting TO SAVE TIME. We had that discussion about merging. Atp and and other players. I mean talking about just the function of the League and the fact that so many redundant endorsements very exposed own income within have prize money because they need to play to one and you just don't repeating themselves as as well organized patches they should be and as I said we just think above the sports. There is no coordination what let's turn the conversation pointed towards your other clients on the city host side because they're that's the sort of constituency that. I always think that is underrepresented in terms of the compensation. There's a sort of blithe assumption. Okay the city hosted in in May but it will. In September it will in whatever date the rights holder decides but as we know from any experience in our local that is not always the case in the cities are going to be under enormous pressure. No the in the Euro Twenty twenty or twenty twenty one point football tornado. Obviously the Panini plan was to spread it far and wide And some of those cities. I think we can do that next year. We were in for this year not next year. I'm sure there'd be lots of other examples but just give us a picture of the view of big sport from that side of the table because it's it's one is quite often Not really thought about me. Yeah no I think you're right. It's the they We we take a possibly slightly country view to the importance of host cities again in this ecosystem we everyone. I think focuses and rightly the very very big investors in his Abreu Kosten sponsors And then gate but to your point Richard. I haven't heard too many people in the last few weeks. When took about sports events rescehduling in order to hold onto the Revenues and then we start talking about Gaetan ticket. I haven't been too many people talking about the investment from cities and actually they should be because cities we think probably the biggest investors in sport whether you're talking about the capital investment programs around major sports facilities which will rank in the billions around the big setpiece night before a couple of the Olympic Games Or increasingly in terms of Hosting fees which are becoming the norm and rightly because sport contributes directly into the economies of those cities region hosting them with visitation and spending to that so. I think specific probably if they would if you were to pull them and would have it. We just have and will be releasing a little bit of research in the course of the next few weeks that relationship between city host. That you'd probably find a little bit taken for granted Because they are such incredibly large investors in school so when we have an argument which we've seen breakout into the open between the Japan it's Because of the political sensitivity around who picks up the bill and the reality is both sides. Picking up Very substantial costs in relation to the rescheduling the event I would say given the size of the Japanese economy that cost probably are insignificant against the how many trillion turnovers GDP As as the He's cost but that that is a very sensitive issue An going back to the publish number of about twelve and a half billion invested by the Japanese in the Olympic Games and you know by some estimates probably twice that we've found that previous in big games that the the real investment is probably quite substantially more than the published. But when you stop impose In you just look at twelve and a half billion published invested in sports event. I mean who else does that? No one else invest. That's a level and this the same by winning gains within the big set piece on the fee for anyway prevents billions and billions of pounds investment team. Imagine spoke and it's it's seems to us that's actually fan. Proportion government knows that because the benefits takes from hosting Even before you look social public health benefits of the social events Stimulating more physical activity in in the public. Health benefits fled from that. So we think the investments fair. It's just not recognized. And is there a specific question in terms of whether or not the rights holders what the return how the return on investment for from the city side is looked at because all of us? My Suction is always. Oh it's an economic equation of some sort and the and as we're seeing now that's real you know you when when it stops we certainly noticed that economic benefit goes away quite quickly. But that's that's the the sort of front and center of it. Is there anything else other other objectives on the city side changing or are they more nuance than just? K- we get is a tourism dollar that which AC? Yep Absolutely. I think it's it's changed over the years as it has with every other investments Probably Bob cost to is always got the economics of it. And you know famously. We always talked about sponsorship in the early days being driven by the ELSA chairman because it was man now a women's win In the early days of sports it was about National Prestige Perhaps only that about the in terms of the justification in the motivation housing major events. It was a big festival celebration. Sports there was no question what the benefit was. And we've seen that mole forever. Twenty thirty isn't almost every government we would with recognizing or at least needing to just find the investment. I almost from economic impact..

"euro twenty twenty" Discussed on Slate's Hang Up and Listen

"The organizers of the twenty twenty Tokyo Games and the International Olympic Committee have been criticized all weekend. Why because we're in the midst of a global pandemic and they haven't called off the summer Olympics yes. This segment is about corona virus. And we're in a very different world now one where it seems increasingly likely that the Olympic Games will be canceled for the first time since nineteen forty four which was in the middle of war too. But that's how bad and dangerous. Things are now. Corona virus is totally upended the world and our way of life and most things in many places have come to a stop not preparations for the Olympics. At least yet but the same day. Japan lit the Olympic flame. I wrote a piece that published on slate dot com calling for team. Usa to boycott the Olympics long after a couple of other countries beat the US to the punch over the weekend. Canada and Australia decided they wouldn't be sending their Olympic teams to Japan. Brazil Norway have called on the Games to be delayed and here in the states. Usa SWIMMING IN USA Track and field of called the Olympics to be postponed for a year and a number of athletes including hurdler and former Lsu. Great Josh Lolo Jones spoken for whatever? It's worth it does seem as IOC in Tokyo. Games officials are listening to the international outcry according to news reports. I'll see said to be considering postponing the Olympics. Though I'll see his said over the next four weeks so we'll explore a potential change of the start date of July twenty fourth and whether to modify quote existing operational plans an Australian newspaper reports late Sunday night. But what would be Monday there? That The I. O. C. Has already decided to postpone the game by a year. That hasn't been confirmed yet. But maybe we'll be by the time you hear this podcast late Monday afternoon. Tuesday morning so Stephan. What do you think of all this international intrigue around the Games look the Olympics? Are Dead in two thousand twenty. Let's be clear and this has been obvious for about two weeks to everyone except for the two most important bodies involved the International Olympic Committee and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Let's start with the. There's a way to understand their craven. Sport acquatic behavior. This is who the IOC is. They have to pretend that the Olympics stand for something more than what they actually stand for money. Metals may have to Kowtow to sponsors. Make it look like they're putting in a good faith effort to preserve the games this year. The crisis has been has made it more obvious than ever. What an empty shell. The Olympic movement is and how high on their own supply. They are how the really believes the historical bullshit that the ancient Greek Olympics were a truce arrigo. The modern games are immune from politics from economics even a deadly pandemic. The Games must go on so you get statements like the one on Sunday from the that are filled with words like solidarity and Partnership. Can I read sport aircraft voice here permission Everybody Permission? Okay on the one hand. They're significant improvements in Japan. Where the people are warmly welcoming the Olympic flame? This could strengthen the confidence in the Japanese hosts that the IOC could with certain safety restrictions Organiz Olympic Games in the country whilst respecting its principles of safeguarding. The health of everyone involved on the other hand. There is a dramatic increase in cases of new outbreaks of covert nineteen in different countries on different continents. This led the Executive Board to the conclusion that the IOC needs to take the next step in its scenario planning. This statement also includes this. Though the ICY Executive Board emphasized the cancellation of the Olympic Games. Tokyo twenty twenty would not solve any of the problems. Our help anyone. Therefore cancellation is not on the agenda. Come on man. It is not on the agenda on the one hand. The Olympic flame on the other hand deadly virus sweeping the planet the lack of self awareness among these clowns it's staggering. I enjoyed Roger. Sherman's piece on this and the ringer where he noted that if the Olympics didn't exist and we were to think about. What is the dumbest fear radical thing we could do if we want to slow down the spread of a global pandemic all right? Let's take people from every country in the world put them in really close proximity to each other and to hundreds of thousands of fans. Maybe for about two weeks will actually have them. Let's let's put them like a village where they all live really close to each other. Let's put a lot of condoms in there. You know. Just let them let them have a really good time. Put put them in that village. Then send them back to where they came from. Maybe do some parades. And have more tens of thousands more people just come and congregate all around them. That seems like a good idea. That's a good way to stop a global pandemic Olympics. Bad idea don't do it. It is interesting that in the US we saw the NBA really lead. And part of that was to circumstances the Rudy Gobert thing happened and they acted because they had act. But in this case. I think it isn't unfair or unrealistic to suggest that the US Olympic Committee should have been the ones to take the first step. Because as you I think we're alluding to Stephan the. Us has the ability to end the Olympics if the US says we're not doing it it's over but it turned out. It was Canada and Australia. Took the first. We have all the. Us Olympic Committee was hesitant. And you know equivocated and maybe there's politics there may be behind the scenes the US is saying we need to end this but just for public reasons that it can't say it. But Joel I mean if you look at these numbers like we've been hearing Congress reports about you know billion tens of billions of dollars and you know that seems like a lot of money. Nbc paid the IOC eight billion dollars on its own to talk for ten years worth of Olympic broadcast. I mean this is an enormous investment. This is huge business and so I guess we do need to acknowledge that. And say like you know. Just thing where. We're not gonNA do the Olympics this year. Like that is a big deal to make that move and to put that out there. Yeah I mean. Japan itself is poured more than twenty five billion dollars in public and private money to stage the Games. That's a lot of investment to just walk away from. I can see both pieces of this because obviously it's stupid to bring people together in a time like this. It's like the potentially the most dangerous thing we could do. Because in addition to bringing all those athletes together you send them all back into the world to that individual countries where they can continue to spread it over and over again so obviously it's dumb but there's a PC that's been a lot of money on this And just on athlete just like you just thinking in terms of you know the athletes themselves. It's a very difficult thing to walk away from. This people spend their entire careers like their entire lives building. Up to this one event at the world championships are not the same You know in any given year the Olympics are the thing and that's what people make their livings off of. They make their names. You Know Mary Lou. Retton is An AMERICAN ICON. Not because like she one. Us Gymnastics Championships in nineteen eighty three because she was an Olympic hero in Nineteen eighty-four. So I totally understand why it would be very difficult to walk away from this but that doesn't really excuse the US and in fact the fact that the USOC has been equivocating in this way. It's a sort of analogous to how the US has not really lead in the corona virus. Fight we've delayed with getting test responded to the crisis much later than other countries so it's not a surprise actually that the USOC would be behind so many other developed nations in this regard. Because that's just what we are right now. Is The nation like we're slow to respond not quite up to the challenge of meeting a crisis and so yeah? Why wouldn't we still be dawdling while Australia in other countries said not? We're not GONNA do it. I think Josh. You're right about one aspect of this and that's the political component the. Us has never been influential or as influential as you think it should be in the Olympic movement despite its contributing the vast majority of revenue through television and through sponsor companies. There's always been a resentment on the part of all of these international governing bodies toward the United States so it is conceivable that the US was sitting back and in concert with the other. Large SP- Western sports countries like Australia. Canada maybe just sat back and said. Why don't you guys take the lead if Canada Australia? Don't show up that's just those are just the first Domino's and and then we have no choice but to follow suit. Is it a little bit disingenuous from a public relations standpoint especially since American athletes American athlete representatives to the US Olympic Committee? Were all have been for the last few days saying we can't train the USOC shutdown training headquarters. It won't be safe to for us to participate from pandemic perspective but also from an athletic perspective. Because we can't prepare for these games than the way that we normally would so I mean to me it was a it was a complete that there weren't going to be Olympics in July or August so from the the UC's political approach. Yeah maybe it was wiler strategically smart to wait and let someone else take the lead but as a matter of public perception. It's awful new mentioned athletes. I mean people can't train I mean it's just impossible to do this for any number of reasons if you actually stop and think about it. And so you hit center and Steph from Travis. Tiger the anti-doping guy. It's like we can't have the Olympics because we can't do any doping tests and so it would be the dirtiest Olympics ever the classic example of having a hammer and everything looking like a now it's like. Oh yeah that's that's the number one reason. We can't have the Olympics because we don't have the resources right now to make people in a cup a but there's just been this gradual creeping realization in every realm of society across the world. I spent most of my time like Joel does on college. Football message boards. And it's like dawning on fans really slowly. It's like Oh we really dodge this bullet and then it's like. Oh actually there might not be a season for US either. It's like it's going to happen to everyone in every round. And maybe you know you you know. We're going to get out of this at some point. We don't know when it's going to be but line for like when the earliest possible date there were going to get out of this just keeps moving backwards and backwards and backwards and for the Olympics. As as you said Joel. You've got these two things that are competing the huge infrastructure and economic investment. The fact that this is a Gargantuan event for participants and spectators. But then there's also just the realities of the world that we're living in and what we're learning is that there's nothing that's too big to withstand this. That's just the fact but I am comforted in the end by president. Thomas Bach letter to athletes guys. And let me just read an excerpt that please at the end of this dark tunnel. We are all going together not knowing how long it is. The Olympic flame will be light at the end of this tunnel. Could you have said it anymore? Beautifully poetically. I don't think so. So twenty twenty one. Do you guys think that's what's GonNa Happen. Yeah I don't know I mean yeah right say what the hell. They're happy right. We don't I mean we don't know what the world is GonNa look like in what you know. Corporations and networks and athletes will be standing at the end of this but also It's really hard to I mean there's other athletic events that are scheduled that year that would have to make concessions to allow for the Olympics. And maybe maybe we'll realize the importance of the Olympics. This is all over and we'll be like wow. We really miss that. That was a great opportunity. Or maybe we'll think about the folly of the whole enterprise like maybe we don't need to have a quadrennial gathering every four years to determine who the fastest person is like. We know these things now likely. We're not going to do that and you'll think so. I'm just saying it just seems like the reasons we used to have the Olympics. Don't necessarily quite apply anymore. This Modern World. In this post apocalyptic world that will probably going to be looking at you just wonder if people will say why are we making billions of dollars of investments in something? We can't even provide social safety nets for our residents So I I don't know but we'll we'll see but yeah maybe they will try to have the Olympics in twenty twenty one but who the hell knows look. There were no Olympics in nineteen sixteen. There were no Olympics in nineteen forty because of war or forty four more forty four and now obviously there are much larger interests at play here financial ones not just Japan's twenty five billion dollar investment. That will put more pressure on making the Games happen. But this'll be an interesting test case of just how the rest of the sports world views the Olympics are they willing as you alluded to a JAL to make concessions to their own calendars you know. Euro Twenty Twenty is being moved to twenty twenty one. They're going to be other leagues that have to alter their schedules as they do. Every four years to accommodate the Olympics. Will they be willing to do that next year? We'll see how much people really care about the Olympics on whether they believe that. It's worth cooperating. In order to make the Games happen. Yeah there is this. Tariff War happening tennis. The French Open announced kind of unilaterally ended up moving to the end of September. And like you didn't see fit to mention that what about the USO bent? So like it'll be interesting to see if there's any kind of cooperative spirit here or everybody's just going to be fighting it out for the time and space on the Sports Calendar Twenty twenty one. It's going to be an interesting year..

"Rob Ninety extra time podcast. Thank you for listening You know this past week and a half has been pretty crazy because we've had all these leagues Suspend themselves or you know. Players have been testing positive because of the corona virus. So there's been suspensions and not just of football leagues but also You know essentially all sports throughout the world mixed martial arts the NBA Handball. I mean not just the NBA also other professional leagues throughout Europe. The rest of the world You know in the US pushback the baseball the start of the baseball season hockey The XFL I mean there's been so many You Know I. It's it's just it's crazy. I've never experienced anything like this before my life. You know. It's been a couple of times when I was younger that either you know because Labor disputes the National Football League of American football in the US or Major League baseball or you know the National Hockey League. They've had like player lockouts or you know. Labor disputes that has contracted the the season or it ended abruptly or didn't even happen You know stuff like that but never never ever something like something medically I mean you know the. Who officially called it. A pandemic and I mean you know as far as football there's only a few leagues That are even continuing to play. Like the Turkish Super League still playing The Russian Premier League I knew was still playing There's some leagues in South Africa or South America that are playing and I'm not sure the status of the Mexican league but I know that at least up until a couple days ago they were still playing behind closed doors You know leaving a Lotta doubt to Whether or not you know the Premier League La Liga Syria the Bundesliga and ligue off. They're going to have champions. Be Crowned Champions this year Same thing with The Champions League the Europa League. I think there's still a you know some other domestic cups only decided You may not even have that and then you know. This is a big year for the European Championships They're already talking about postponing. It potentially in pushing it off to to next summer. Excuse me I also read something. That said that they may try to do it. During the winter you know November to December timeframe. You know because of the football calendar so tight you know. It doesn't really lend itself to to have something like this happened to where they have to readjust completely Yeah I mean it's it's pretty crazy like never ever could afford something like this happening. You know It's it's kind of weird. Having podcast with you know almost like nothing to really talk about except for potential changes Or you know rescheduling of stuff happening. I mean now. They're talking about with the Champions League potentially doing like a mini tournament and having it you know be hosted in Turkey You wait for said both champion in the in the Europa League somehow having like a final four type thing. I don't know how they're going to do that. Because I think there's still be eight teams in both competitions that are still trying to play Trying to play the game behind closed doors. You still have players that are you know have potentially been exposed to to the virus. They could have it and not even realize it and then you know you have them not only playing against each other you know potentially some that are positive playing against players that aren't but you also are bringing them into a country potentially exposing them to you know staff and hotel personnel and you know transportation people because you have to move them somehow I it's it's pretty crazy how I don't know how this whole thing. This whole thing is going about it. I don't even know I don't know like obviously right now. Football Sports in general is not is not important Hopefully everybody that's listening to this. You know he got to taking the right precautions. You guys have been hearing it. You know ad nauseam nonstop not touching your face constantly. Washing your hands hand sanitizer. There's the social distancing thing that people are doing and you know right now. I guess this is like the third or fourth time this year. I'm recording this podcast on the road. I'm I'm actually sitting in AIRBNB and in Colorado Springs While I'm recording this podcast. I came here to visit my kids. I had every intention this past weekend of taking my kids to go see the Colorado switch-backs play again's San Antonio FC the US L. But obviously you the USO has been suspended as well and you know just like normal day to day stuff. It's nothing is normal anymore. You know me my kids have basically been here since Friday. We basically like have locked ourselves in You know not really on purpose but because you know we're kind of homebodies anyway. We have been watching movies so it hasn't really I guess hasn't really affected US too much. But we did want to go to the movies or go. See The match between Colorado Springs and San Antonio There's like this trampoline park here that kids love that we wanted to go to Some of the Burger places that you know we like around here went to two I hop to go have breakfast and it was completely different than you know even the week and a half ago when my wife was visiting San Antonio we went I asked for the Syrup. 'cause you know. The Syrup was not on the table like it normally is And some hot sauce and the waitress brought it out to me like these little plastic salable containers and I was just like wow. That was the first time I guess that it really really really hit me that You know this thing is like people taking this seriously. I mean not to say that people have been joking about it but to see that you know a restaurant chain like I hop you know is doing everything. They possibly can to make their customers. You know safe even though you know they still have the the wait staff in there I don't WanNa say caught me off guard but at the same time. I just wasn't expecting it. I guess I flew here on Friday You know a lot of people wearing masks and you know there wasn't as many people in the airport but my flight. I guess you know there wasn't many people on the flight either but It just seemed like in Texas. It's not. They're not treating it the way that they are here in. San Antonio there's in here excuse me Colorado Springs. There is the whole thing where there's toilet paper. I don't know what people are doing. Why people are you know Hoarding Toilet Paper because you have people. That just are not doing that. And then they go to the store to buy toilet paper as like a normal part of their shopping. You Know Day or system or whatever and they can't even get it. They have to make like a separate trip to go find toilet paper where they can. That's all they're buying so they look like people like they're hoarding it. You know people just WanNa have toilet. Ps something that's completely normal. That for whatever reason has has been blown like crazy. I don't even know why toilet paper would be like a a necessity. I don't know when I was living in Germany. I had a bad day in my house. Americans are kind of weird about today's but you really don't need a bunch of toilet paper but I seen like videos and pictures of people here taking pallets worth of toilet paper for what reason I have no idea. Nobody's buying soap people buying Pallets worth of Of Toilet Paper Obviously hand sanitizers almost impossible to find too. But nobody's really buying so. I think that should worry us a little bit until the paper or hoarding. It I should say those those specific people. Nobody's buying. So what does that say I'm sure it's not like that. In other countries at least that I've been seeing the news SARS plane flying overhead but But yeah so That's the football you know. There's a lot of players that have been testing positive Not just not just in football but You know in a bunch of other leagues and obviously you know Keeping the players safe just like keeping the fan safe is Is Extremely important We we don't know you know the extent of the The virus I mean we know a lot more than we did like a week ago but we don't know if there's long-term effects to it obviously You know some of these athletes are in the top Physical condition for like humans and like I said long-term effects we have no idea. We don't know if people can get it again. After you know getting over it you know the fourteen quarantine thing has been. You know basically like the guide for it but we don't know if it's Something that once you get it you can never get again like you're immune to it. I have seen some things where people have gotten. It gotten over it. And they contracted it again. But then I've also seen doctors saying that you know once you have it. There's it's it's almost impossible to get again but who knows I mean? I'm sure that you more and more will come out in the The next few days weeks months I just hope that all you guys out there being safe You know not not exposing yourself keeping your family safe Unfortunately for me I've had you know someone close to me been exposed. They have necessarily been tested positive for anything. they're waiting to get the Now waiting but I guess they're waiting watching for symptoms. Hopefully it doesn't You know doesn't progress. Hopefully it's nothing. Hopefully she's like a cold or something You know there though. Symptoms that come with it the the dry cough sometimes the sore throat. Then there's the There's like chest pains. I guess come with the sensation of just not feeling right. And then there's the fever. The fever I guess is the most important is that is like an obvious indicator Whether you have it. So I'm hoping that they You know it it's not. It's not the corona virus you know hopefully They're they're good to go It's a little worrying you know. But they're not in that age range where you know have to worry about it being fatal or anything but still you know someone that you truly care about. You don't want them to to suffer. You know have to deal with anything like that. So far as football goes I was saying for months just like everybody else that Liverpool was GonNa win the Premier League. Obviously everybody knew what they're like. Twenty something points up and now there's calls just completely void. The Twenty nineteen twenty twenty season Their calls for Liverpool to just be awarded the trophy because they're so far ahead You know same thing with the Champions League and the other Major Leagues in Europe Some of them are really close. You know like Italy the Bundesliga. They're just really close. And you can't just essentially give up the trophy because two teammates on top because anything can happen and also there's calls You know some of these are only suspended until for a month until the beginning of April. I mean. Obviously they're going to have to reassess and you see how it goes from there but That's one of the things that's putting the European championships and the The Twenty Twenty Copa America in doubt Is because these leagues may have to push out until the early summer in order to finish if you do that. Then you certainly can't have You know your continental championships. I saw I did see that Russia. They said that they would that. They would host the Euro Twenty Twenty. Because you know this year is not going to be happening in one specific country. It's it's basically taking place all over Europe Because Russia's saying that they don't have very many cases which you know information coming in and out of that country I don't know but I think it would be better to postpone the tournament possibly till next summer. Which I don't really like 'cause I did WanNa see like the actual tournament For the World Cup. But you know UEFA doesn't really care about that because they see it as like a direct competitor to the Champions League so for them. It's not an issue to push it back till next year. We'll see how fee for how he feels about it as far as the couple or couple of America. It's the I mean the reason that they moved it to you know they had the tournament last year they moved to this year and then every four years so they could be in line with Uefa so I doubt it that if you have a push to next summer that Combo will push. There's two next summer and that'll be the end at least for now of the Fiba Club World Cup in the format that they're planning on bringing it into so We'll see Mls and you know. I don't know everything else. All the other leagues is just. We're just waiting. You know I mean obviously like I mentioned before. Football is important at the moment It's basically just a pastime just entertainment Obviously the health of our fellow earthlings is a is more important but Yeah I don't really know what else to say. I mean everybody else is just waiting every day. It seems like we hear about some some person that you know whether it's a celebrity or whatever. I know a lot of people don't care about celebrities but you know these are the people that you know we look at to entertain us so when we see that you know there they've contracted this virus it's I guess it kind of hits close. You know I mean I don't know too many people that Have you know friends or family members that actually have been exposed? Contracted the virus. But I do know that a lot of people know who Tom Hanks is. I know that a lot of people know who he dress..

Dave I've matured a little bit and one thing thing I know for sure. I'm grateful for these conversations. I'm grateful for the Human Joy. The empathy the compassion of GOP NATION. Which is a one thing. Even football's absence can't take away from blood from a raised beds gave to human curiosity on one to support each other in good times and in bad to life they tell life to live and to the football okay. Massive massive seismic news broke today. Raj even bigger than Mason Holgate signing a new contract out of thirty five nation meeting this morning. That was a fun. Google hangout UEFA announced just about two hours ago. That euro twenty twenty has been postponed to what has been suggested the same time next year. Let's unpack this. Means Global football row. Kelly. Yeah that may not be football debut today for meeting has been described as one of the most important fixtures in that decision will now the term. It's so much of what has to fall in place. The big decision as you say twenty two thousand take euros was due to start June twelfth plan to take place in twelve host cities. I can't think as upset a couple of times this way of a worse time to unveil that crazy plan to take the euro's across an entire continent semi finals and the final moment when Blake and they've now decided to postpone it to twenty twenty. One be played me eleventh of June. Two eleven to July next year. You're twenty twenty one. It's got a nice ring about it. Right David Yeah but killing the as we go to the old years run the good news is that means the women should get back to even years which is going to be a very good thing but the Yeah we've gone to the audience and this is just remarkable. You know I hate to bring this up because I know really on the whole we think of this as a public health crisis but I think increasingly people realizing that the economic crisis is also Going to be massive in the economic impact is going to be massive isn't just about. Oh pretending the dogs the the one percent who only James but it's going affect everybody all the way down the line of football. I think the people working the concessions I think if they You know the the the sort of the matchday marshals you think of everybody who's economically impacted by the cancellation of these events. The cancellation of so much business. And I just. It just terrifies me. This is why the Resta- is so You know it just as a as a business owner. I'm just worried about how it's going to start up again and you know all of this is just. It's just tragic. It's all just tragic Outside oligarchs who listening awesome film for. You as well. We don't just think about the little guy on this show and we should say say Copa America. Twenty Twenty also moved to twenty twenty one and the Women Jewelry which women are being twenty. Twenty one will move to twenty twenty two and headed the twenty two. World Cup which we remember will be in Qatar. Take place till November massive decision. You right financially generates more than two point. Five billion dollars involves eight thirty million ticket. Requests trimmed continental bookings across Europe from island to to that famous football as bizarre oil money. Baby there are so many contracts that have been voided so many contracts being re drooled. Seventy lives changed as a result of this decision. I mean beyond that is also said a toss force will now be established to look at the Champions League that you ruefully and the most perplexing and probably complicated task finishing the individual domestic leagues in greater detail. Producer potential schedule. Next Matha a virgin say I WANNA say personally. I'm never going to take a second of one of these tournaments granted again but this is complex very complex stuff. Yeah I mean so many of the smaller federations your Slovenia's you're a stimulus depend on the twenty million dollars. They Judah fifty five nations get flung from the tournament. And we should all say say all of this is so incredibly putative we will stay and this has been really humbling Dave. I was Paul. This we've full always thought of itself as Almighty all powerful arrogant force in the world. Just the notion of sprinkling a tournament across Europe which was controversial at the time in stings. Tape of Hubris. But there's no knowledge of how dire the CORONA VIRUS IMPACTS GONNA be on Europe. It's already inflicted awful suffering on the Italians. Emmys been devastating to watch. Spain and Britain is now braced for the worst. So all of this planning Dave. We should say it's hopeful and at the same time it's best case hypothetical right. Yeah the public health crisis. May Well Walsh about the economic impact in the impact on the schedule and the impact on the sort of the structure may never be recovered. A dozen coats made the pushing of of of Cobra America particularly in. I assume that this will affect the CONCACAF. Gold copy will give The past the bay at Concha calf and Kumble. Rudge a chance to reinvent those tournaments. Invite even more unlikely participants into that into that fails water my concern about these. Major international tournaments is the we could have a completely crippled airline industry By the time we get through this And it's going to be like returning to the World Cups of you'll when you know teams are going to have to depart the nine week. Ocean steam up journeys across the Across Oceans to participate in these tournaments. I just think every aspect of life we're GONNA it's GonNa be I got it will be a completely unforseeable very simple thing that will make this very very difficult to go and do again in the same way that has been the full quite apart from even if the public health crisis past how comfortable people going to be you know sitting squeezed like Sardines into these stadiums standing so close to each other. All you know incredibly close proximity in these cues lines to go to the TUNSTALL's like they're gonna be massive implications for the future of all sports. Football being the biggest sport in whatever code is play in the world. It's going to be a massive change at. They'd love all their stories about the nineteen thirty World Cup. I about the nine weeks team at journeys that teams to be. They're trying to train as best. They could all the poop deck on a daily basis. You probably forgotten they. We're not gonNA drive around your take in the euro in person with Jay dubb's a pleasure. Postponed will soon be knocking batting. Ba mice does in Germany please. God Germany mice does like bugs drunk in Saint Louis Oh they just hit differently ultimately the international gay hat to see place to the club day. There's a real threat to insolvency that threatened so many of the teams at the club level. I'm not just talking about the smaller nations. I mean you look at the lower levels of English will and the number of clubs and are going to be just hanging on with a stoppage and not just the smaller clubs. There's going to be devastating economic effects in the Premier League for many of the teams outside the big six. The shift from the euros moving well through the battle now back to the domestic leagues. They're gonNA have to grapple with the decision of determining Nass seasons and with the corona virus at different stages nation to nation. They've really got trunk. Finish they seasons. Or there's GonNa be a tangle of awful legal challenges that would arise from relegated teams known promoted teams teams. Have Miss out on Champions League places the only good teams the ones who are going to be utterly mid table. I mean you. Everton not to mention problems. That commercial sponsors broadcast Paul knows around the world of the so many hurdles. They've this you're talking about the teams. Don't stop playing again. They're going to need preseason to get much fin- GonNa need to get sports scientists and to talk about what ratio of training they need for every day. Missed TALK OF YOU. Need one day of trading again for everyday missed a vote so twenty days out of the game. We're GONNA wait another twenty before they can go start taking failed again. We always away football. I'm it does really say something about Everton. Football Club Roach the even with the season light. It doesn't really matter. It was played. The finish is not in doubt that going down the not going up. You really don't even need to play the games to no evidence fate as to whether it's a good it's a good threapleton funds. We've got nothing to sing for quite a puffer but he said look what does a contract mean right now. What is both measure? What his team's GONNA continue to pay? Everybody of these manages of these plans will being played when they're under contract and there's no revenue coming in. Td broke Costa's GonNa pay for matches. That aren't being delivered to them. It's a the the the the legal. Nightmares the contractual nightmares I think we're just starting to occur to us just starting to cut or some part of that is the opposite people could say yes. This is just the three-month thing this a three-month thing that everything's GonNa be back but I don't think anybody has any Whatsoever of of when this is going to pass so the decision to shutdown can happen quite quickly. The decision to restart is going to be much much more complex as you just mentioned. Look I think got you know. Can we even answer the question about what we think the Premier League should do? Is that even a reasonable question for two? You know humans seeming that we ought to answer never stopped before may be. You got the broadcast this contracts. They must be completed by the end of July on the terms of agreements with skysports. Bt sports the sixty nine primarily players contract on June the thirtieth further down the line Ola Contracts for the pre season tournaments say tradition of coming to America trade. That's GonNa be a challenge in a half this summer. So many contracts so much chaos in the world of football is going to be a load of financial damage to teams across the world. Do a thorough about this this morning. You know how in politics a lot of news is being dumped out now because no one's looking. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd wake up four this morning in a slight panic wife woke up and said what's wrong. I said to a Oh my God. The Big European powerhouse teams are going to start to float the idea of that European suply. They've always wanted to seize that moment of darkness that they what they've always desired but never have public support to execute chaos is going to allow a lot of stuff that couldn't pass the thrive stay tuned. The will be more. The will be so much more and I got into of Walt. The premise Out with this season I would be really interested in hearing from Achy. F- obeys hearing from fans levels aims to livable. Fans will they? I'd like to hear from teams fans of teams threatened to be relegated. I'm even willing to hear from Evanston find that the only people that can be impartial in this in this entire thing. What do we do with two thousand? Nineteen Twenty Premier League season. I don't have any from onset. I think the one thing I do think is that if we decide that the season ends now fixed as it is now in order to crown. Livable champions you. That one side of the table and then on the other side of the table not have relegation Yukon renegade does teams in Saint Point Not Gone Have Ueno Yukon. State has no relegation an end up saying that somehow in a livable champions. I think there's GonNa be one solution to this season that that affects everybody. But that's just my. I'm really interested to hear from all view. Whatever your view is what we should do with the season. Also any other president across the world of sport. I'm sure there is that we can find In the history of sport to go and solve the somehow okay roach now to a Raven..

"Competing for Champions League and Europa League places and if you can't play another game where if you get to the point where you have to figure out a split teams. Maybe there's another option. Maybe get the teams around the table and you agree okay in the interest of our league and are you a fisher. Who are we going to send right yet? Is that means that we send Manchester United instead of Leicester because it's good for the League competing? It's not a great example more point but you know what I'm saying if it's close then let's do that and then maybe we have something where because obviously a lot of this is about money. Whatever revenue united earn get split under some formula with Leicester you know what I mean you choose the best teams to represent? Yeah definitely I I just think people have to think. Creatively all these options have to be on the table. And hopefully you know there's going to be fewer people like like Karren Brady who are just going to go and hire lawyers to tie this up in court for a long time. Yeah no hopefully people can understand the serious and get the right consensus to move on Before we move on we have to figure out what to do with Euro Twenty twenty. Because Yeah it's moved. They're going to tentatively figure out When to move it to also the champion's league final. Obviously it's not going to be played. May Thirtieth in May still be played in a stumble. If it's going to be at the end of June we will find out. I'm slightly wary. I am not an empty meteorologist but I look at the number of cases in Turkey. Look at the fact that Turkey shares a land border with Iran which obviously one of the hardest hit countries are. Look at the way it has been spreading. Turkey might be different moment in time. They may be dealing with us. Come the end of June so there has to be contingency. I think there as well If you move the euros and you move it to the same dates next summer you're going to have to adjust number things the schedule. Yeah so the nation's eight final four which I personally really like the nation's last year Based on the priority is it's not going to be the priority. I agree with you There's some World Cup qualifying games. Hopefully you can reach them. Understanding with fever. there's the whip but then the other two. I think it's more problematic. One is the women's well. There's the the European under twenty one's yet you find. What is the women's euros which which is scheduled in England? Which kicks off. I believe on July fifth so there would be an overlap of of about a week until the end of the tournament. I think as well as such as the overlap saying all the media attention is going to be on the men's euros. You'RE NOT GONNA get the build up to the women's euros coverage of the they would use you to get what I think they should consider. Doing is moving the women's euros down to twenty twenty two Argument being is they're literally will be nothing VAT summer. Yeah because the worker as obviously it's a winter World Cup exactly so that would that would work again. Crunch the numbers. But you don't want to create a situation where you're having a women zero you've got this great wave of of interest and enthusiasm women's football and then you just cannibalize it by parking the main euro at the top of it And I know people are going to say well. Why don't you move the men's zero to your twenty twenty? Well it's very simple because they're gonNA have a World Cup four months whereas the women's World Cup is until two thousand twenty three The other issue is of course. Doggerel fee for club World Cup It's going to be held in China. Kicks off. I think it's set to kick off May June You're going to have twenty. Four teams eight is the new version has a new version. Eight of them are big European teams. It's going to be very lucrative four teams participating in it there's a whole political backdrop to this which is kind of a power struggle between eight and FIFA Shefrin I- Jining Fantino logic from UEFA standpoint suggests right that's gotta go. Yeah but then again there's teams in Africa in South America in CONCACAF single. Wait a minute we were promised this. That's that's that's the that's the Big One. I mean you know better than me but I I don't know what the relationship over something like this where there's so much money at stake. And there's there's there's also a state not just the money but also sense of superiority between you find fee for of lack. Who's GonNa let go because if I can standard said okay right great for euros per we? Don't we don't care. We go so we also have our own compositions to run here and while we give you the space of the workup. The newspaper comes welcomed out. We spent so much time and already so much money organising finding a right way of in clubs on board these this enough now to just put it on the been all moving to another day. It's just for your ufo competition so who would win between it. Tricky I mean Fi. Uefa are increasingly aligned with With comparable so South America many ways presumed the Copa America has to move as well so I think they could make a pretty strong stand. The other thing is if a club World Cup is only. It'd be lucrative if you have those eight big teams and the Big South American team's going to control the balance of power We don't know who those eight European teams are because there's been different talk about different criteria. I think we can safely assume that row Madrid and Liverpool are going to be two of them because they won the Champions League champions off the five big lakes Beta you think knows who knows I mean. That's not beating right now. It doesn't even seem that relevant. Yeah to be honest but I would appeal to those clubs right now. Say because those clubs are GonNa say well wait a minute so I can release my players for the euros. Not GonNa dime out of it or it can follow fief instructions and send them to the club. World Cup where I'm GonNa make between fifty and one hundred million G. does you no brainer. I'm gonNA appeal to their sense of altruism and their sense of being a part of a bigger hole that if it comes down to this you find your solution and you don't just look after yourself and the money you're GonNa make from the club World Cup because obviously it might come down to these clubs saying choosing UEFA OVER FETA or vice versa. And I think it's important that fans care about this. They make sure they make their voices heard and Wine to other solutions have been suggested one would be having a winter break so to speak in midseason In twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty one next season and playing the euro then..

"In a set schedule. I imagine the Italian. Fa WON'T BE THE ONLY ONES lobbying for postponing this tournament. No no he's not at all in fact there's at least half a dozen other me to large size. Faa's who who have already signed on and and they want to look at all the options in terms of postponing euro. Twenty twenty one of the key elements in this specifically in the case of say the they do have a plan together as they hope to get the all clear to keep to to start playing again. Possibly in early May and the idea was in those two months between May and June you you play out the rest of the season or most of it perhaps modified playoff to go and complete the season and settle what you need to settle. That might also gave enough time to go or should also give enough time to go and complete the Champions League albeit probably not in its current format. Remember there's several round of sixteen which as yet unresolved and of course you would have to move the final. Currently scheduled for May thirtieth stumbled. But but that is the impetus and it seems to be a compromise solution which would ensure that we could get. Some closure people would lose out too much financially but of course. It's all predicated on getting the all clear and start playing again in early. May and we have no idea that's going to happen. But in all likelihood cab used to gesture everything we know at the moment. Your we'll be postponed. Yeah I mean it would have to be a scenario where you can't. I think the only way it goes ahead is if there's a scenario where somehow you can't play football in most of Europe in early. May but suddenly you can in early June. I think that's extremely far fetched. I think you have said. They're going to listen to their stakeholders listen to their constituents. They're very few people out there who really have a strong vested interest in Euro Twenty Twenty. Going ahead come. What may I'm talking about Federations League's players Players Union And I think ultimately I think the majority opinion will prevail Wayne. Rooney's writing for the Sunday Times. Now this is just an extra of his article saying well. If current viruses as bad as the prediction site then there may come a stage. When you have to decide whether to cancel the season completely from a player's point of view. If the season has finished in June finish in June the euro will be cancelled one hundred percent. We're happy to play up until September if the season extends to then if that's how it has to be that's all job as long as we know is safe to play and it's a safe environment for spectators will play the next world conference in November December. Xavi responds to rumors he will replace Ernesto Valverde at Barcelona

"Course a lot of rumors surrounding valverde and his future over the last twenty four hours and Chevy coming in to replace him. Got My right and say that that's not going to happen now. We'll at least until the summer. Well it's not going to be job. Each Avi seems to have a call themselves out. There were rumors swirling around that. They'd approached Ronald Cooman in which I'm skeptical about. But if they did the Mona Luther calendar this Guy's playing euro twenty twenty in the summer but certainly the the other rumor is how they feel about all this all this sticking around Behind his back might just say guys you guys think on the problem let me we just go and walk out rather than enjoy these last. Few months without Luis Suarez as well. So they Kinda I think pretty needlessly made a rod further own back with this very ham fisted way. They went about things.

Euro 2020 draw: England in group with Croatia while Wales meet Italy

"Thank you very much God. Meanwhile in Romania the JOE is made for the Euro Two thousand nine hundred finals next summer here it is on its glory in group. Eight Italy Wales and Switzerland or Jones again in Group B Denmark Finland Belgium and Russia in Group C. It's the Dutch Ukraine Austria and then one of the four teams will qualify via the playoffs in Group Day England Croatia and the Czech Republic will also be joined by a team entering via the playoffs in group e Spain Sweden Poland then another playoff win a group F. That's the big one is Jimmy France Portugal and and then another playoff win at for a lot more on the jaw gap. It might take some people a while to fully wrap their heads around euro. Twenty twenty of course This tournament unlike any other at the anniversary tournament. It's not going to be hosted at one place. It's spread all over Europe from From Glasgow and London in the West all the way to Baku Ho. That's all the way to the to the east so these groups that were drawn. There's different dynamics. The top seeds get a whole bunch of games at home which of course is also is also going to impact things. I think tremendously so if you're the likes of of Spain if you're the likes of Italy Holland and of course England Then it'd be pretty happy. Tell you. WHO's not going to be happy? Germany Portugal and France the last two World Cup winners with of of course the defending euro champions Portugal sandwiched in between. They're all in the same group we don't know who the fourth one is. Because that's another one of the vagaries of of this draw that there's still issues to be settled via the playoffs but it presents a really interesting dynamic. Now remember a this is a two thousand fourteen year old like the last one which means that some third-placed teams will advance Portugal. Of course advances the third place team last time around they. He did it without winning a game and of course they went on to be crowned European champion so doesn't necessarily mean one of these big three Portugal. Germany and France are going out early But it does mean that you have to be careful whoever whoever that that fourth-placed or that the fourth seed in that group is going to be you know that teams are GonNa go all out against them because you simply cannot even contemplate dropping points if you want to advance as third seed so all to play for and it starts this summer and tell you what some people don't like all the traveling around but it's going to be different. It's going to be good

"euro twenty twenty" Discussed on 90 and Extra Time

"Tomorrow we have Germany hosting Northern Ireland in Frankfurt The Netherlands hosting Estonia Wales hosting Hungary Slovakia hosting by John Latvia hosting Australia North Macedonia hosting Israel Poland hosting Slovenia Belgium hosting Cyprus San Marino green hosting Russia and Scotland hosting Kazakhstan now as far as qualified teams four were euro twenty twenty. We have in order of qualification Belgium. Italy Russia Poland Ukraine Spain France Turkey England Czech Republic Finland Sweden Croatia Austria The Netherlands Germany and Portugal now fi Finland. This is big. I mean they. This is their first qualification for any major tournament whether it be the euros of World Cup so this is this is huge for them. I know last euros. Euro's there were two teams that qualified for the first time I believe was Albania and could be totally wrong but I know Iceland. Last time was He was definitely Iceland's first. Time qualifying So you said that's huge for For the you know Finland as a country the finish players. Here's will get the C.. Team of Hooky during the summer which will be pretty nice. He's been having a pretty decent year on the Premier League Looking forward to it so for Automatic Matt Qualification still three more slots that are available and those are currently in. Let's see Group D where we have Denmark. Sitting on top with fifteenpoints Switzerland second with fourteen points Republic of Ireland in third with twelve points. And then next we have Georgia who's enforced but they can't qualify automatically they have eight points But but let's see. We have Denmark hosting the Republic of Ireland so you have first place versus third place. And then Switzerland will be playing against a brawl to. WHO's in last place I mean anything can happen but you know I'm betting that it'll be Switzerland and Denmark qualifying out of that group we'll see And then we got group e Croatia has already qualified But then we have in second place place. We have hungry with twelve points Wales in third with eleven points and then Slovakia in fourth with ten points. So let's let's see we have Wales playing hungry tomorrow and then. Azerbaijan will be playing against since Slovakia. So anything can happen. I mean those. Those three teams are separated by two points. And there's one more automatic qualification slot So we'll see I mean the others they can still qualify the playoff but You know I mean it's automatic. Promotion Ocean is is definitely definitely the way to go so Yeah there's still a decent amount of games left to be played We'll see who qualifies next looking forward to it Obviously there won't be Some teams that won't qualify until the end of March when the The playoff you know ends on the thirty first of March they play for all four so But for these I twenty. We'll definitely know who it is by tomorrow evening so looking forward to it finally the end of you know regular Euro Twenty Twenty qualifying with the exception of the playoff I don't WanNA leave out On the other two major confederations right. Now that are I see major considerations all the confederations are major but Africa Asia right now are also Obviously playing matches are international. Break district two purposes Asia's doing there's for World Cup qualifying all sine While Africa's doing there's for the twenty twenty one Africa Cup of Nations so There's there's been and a lot of matches I mean. Obviously you know those are two huge confederations. The basically have the same teams as you're actually think Asian may have a little bit maybe ten countries fewer than than Europe and Africa put If you're looking for matches to watch you know there's there's plenty eight when Africa today Monday the eighteenth. We had South Tomato Principi hosting Ghana the Gambia Hosting the Democratic Republic Congo My African team that I follow Cape Verde is hosting Mozambique COMOROSS is hosting Egypt. Kenya hosting Togo and Botswana hosting Defending African champions Algeria tonight. And then for tomorrow. Let's let's see. We got Barundi hosting Morocco Mauritania Hosting Central African Republic Zambia hosting Zimbabwe Equatorial Guinea hosting Tunisia Libya hosting Tanzania Ethiopia hosting Cote d'Ivoire or the Ivory Coast and Niger hosting Madagascar. So I spent a lot of time in Africa because of my previous job and so I've gotten to understand a lot of the African soccer culture. Obviously it varies from country to country three and region to region. The fans are just as passionate Some of the the culture and cultural political situation and sometimes tend to interfere with matches not as far as like on the field. But you know whether they get the kickoff times are on time or if you know games are are played in the stadiums. They're supposed to be played in. You know little things like that. I mean it's a little quirky sometime but I mean the African fans are absolutely really amazing. I mean I it's it's great to to watch games In Africa so those are some of the matches that are are you know for today and tomorrow In the you know the next while it looks like they're not gonNA have the next round of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers until next August. Which is pretty wild? I think about it but that's good because you know we've been having too many international brakes anyway but over to Asia. Let's see they're playing all of their matches Che's for this round For qualifying the next ones. I should say The plane all them tomorrow. So it'll be the Maldives hosting Guam Syria Hussein. The Philippines Nepal Houston Kuwait Jordan hosting Taiwan Hong Kong hosting Cambodia. Media actually went nowhere that matches going to be plagued considering everything that's going on with Hong Kong now. It looks like that game will actually be in Hong Kong Iraq hosting Bahrain was Beckstein hosing Palestine Yemen hosting Singapore Afghanistan hosting Tatar Oman hosting India and India's completely like building up their their football like base with you know they they have their Indian Super League now They're just investing a lot of money kind of the way China's doing it just not on the same scale into the game within the country. Sorry so I would say look for India to over the next ten to fifteen years definitely become a much better team than they have been Me and Mar Hosting Mongolia. Lia cured republic or Stan hosting Tajijistan Malaysia hosting Indonesia Vietnam Thailand Turkmenistan hosting Sri Lanka and Lebanon hosting North Korea. So yes I mean. There's there's plenty of football for the next two days as for the Of the International League for the players go back to their National Teams C.`Mon Club teams on Wednesday one of the matches. That was was huge for for this break that I did not get the opportunity to watch But I did read about it. saw a highlighter to was a Brazil in Argentina It's the first game that messy was back since the Copa America. This past summer you know. He was suspended but he's back and he scored the deciding goal in this match. He's early thirteenth fourteenth. Minute But the the big headline aside from messy returning back to the Argentinian team. After we have suspended was I guess there was some George Atkinson some trash talking between messy and the Brazil head coach you know messy was basically telling him to be quiet. Who knows what they were saying to each other I didn't see any of the interviews But you know it's always good when mess. He's back for Argentina Yeah and then this coming summer again. There's another Copa America so It's always good to see that that rivalry between those two teams Brazil and Argentina. I mean wh when working you say Argentina one this one but you know Brazil still the champions of in South America so now the funny thing that I read this is totally unrelated to Brazil or Argentina but Corinne Ben Dema police for Real Madrid. French guy hasn't been called up for the national team in. I don't know how along I bet it's probably the some people don't even remember that he's ever played for France but The President of the French Football Federation recently said that Bensimon will never again be selected for the French national team Nothing there's some history between those guys or something that may have happened in quite read into it but Basically Benzon saying that. Oh if the president is sticking his nose in there saying that You know that I'm not going to be selected even though I could still play. Obviously he's still doing his thing for a Real Madrid He's basically saying. Let me play for someplace else. Let me me play for another national team which he would have to be released by France Basically saying that they're never going to call him up which the president has said. Even though I don't think did he a shop the manager for the French national team. I don't believe he said that but Bensman wants to be released and he would be able to be eligible. I guess because of his family or descendents of parents may be He'd be able to eligible should say to play for Algieria jury there the current champions of Africa and I think it would be ridiculous for to see Benza playing for Algebra I mean really good way I mean be good. You know he'd be able to be in a completely different tournament completely. Different continent you know I think that'd be a good thing for African football as well. I mean you know you got money Sala in Benza. All on the same name content is on the same team. He'd be on Algeria with Benza. I mean that would be just ridiculous and amazing to watch and you know something definitely worth seeing. AH The next African Cup of nations and possibly the World Cup it will happen. I think that France probably will not let it happen because I don't think they want to You know have something happened where they would have to you know potentially play against him in the World Cup But this is the first time that I can think of a senior player lease you know begging to be released to go to play for another national team. I think it'd be good. I think he should be allowed to go. They're not going to select them anymore. You know why let them sit there and Rot essentially not not play. I mean he's still playing for his club team. Obviously but I think You know why not let him play. Let him go let him do his thing. Francis is fine. Algeria is fine too but you know would definitely be nice to to see that. So what do you think about that you know. Let me know what you guys think again. Now put the contact information in the show description. So you guys can hit me up on instagram or twitter or email and I'd be interested to. Let's see what you guys think about players. You know that haven't been selected or aren't going to be selected for their current national teams. That would have eligibility for another team. If you'd think that they should be allowed Oughta go or if they should not be able to play me for example I wouldn't be able to play for another national team. I have no other nationality. No other kind of ties to any countries other than in the United States Germany but that really means nothing only. I live here because of my wife. My kids on hand my kids would actually be eligible to play for like three are- different teams which would be pretty crazy but I'm sure there's you know plenty of other people out there like that. That essentially select their national the national team from two three and even four or more Different eligibility paths. I know doc in Heard about this in like women's basketball. Obviously you know the. US Women's team is really good and There there's some I guess. The Russian League is like the biggest league in the world and there's you know other leagues and if the WNBA The US and there's some American Women that played the US their whole lives. The they're Americans. They've never been any place else but they were eligible to get other passports from other country's based on grandparents and parents and Because you know some of these European leagues they have like a limit on how many non European players can be on a team but but then if say an American. That's really good. You know has like grandparents. They were Italian or something. They can get European seeming Italian passport which basically makes them European Paean Sanal. It changes the numbers on the team. Yada Yada that was just a little tangent but I think that I don't know I I. I guess I don't really care I mean I'm I'm all about the sport I don't really care about who's playing for who I guess. As long as everything is fair and legal and falls within the rules. I don't think it really matters to be honest with you. The stuff we talk about during the international break. I'm looking forward to being over. Hello I'm ready to to go back to You know watching my my club teams This Saturday Sunday Sunday coming up speaker. It's gotTa match at home I may try to go see But they're gonNA be playing Karlsruhe. Karlsruhe is another team. That's in the second Bundesliga but they are maybe like a half an hour. Drive from Stewart west of Stewart So I mean I think that'd be a good game. Sure it'd be a lot of fans from Karlsruhe because it's so close Yeah looking forward to that in the following week store guard replaying Sand House in which is another team. That's may be like forty five minutes to an hour north of here so That actually wouldn't be a bagging to go to and I'm a member too so I could probably possibly get tickets. I don't know we'll see but I'm looking forward to going back to that. US has done their thing. You know they got the game against Cuba Germany's done their thing. They've already qualified. So now I'm ready to go back to my club team so With that.

"Forty five when they receive Denmark by on win and they are in demo very much involved in a three way. Tussle Hustle for qualification with Switzerland as well prices will change because of fixtures taking place before this passing stand patty per guy five to to the republic even money Denmark and it's twenty one to ten the draw. Then what do you think will happen in. This is a blockbuster this he's I'll just think it would have been easier for Orlands if not needed to win this game. It looks highly lightly. They all going to have to win. This guy is Switzerland. Beat Georgia Denmark beat Japan Gibraltar in in in the first round the games that probably going to have to win this game and that means that got actually do something. I haven't really done in any of the big screen which attack if you attack active as we saw when I play in the the crucial World Cup qualifier. Actually the house up in one five one there in the key Guy Mayor in the in the playoff I just think that the stock which I'll have to go to take a chance steitz. You've got a lot of Christian Erickson. He's going to open up the spices and openly Dimapur run out winners. What did you think Limb okafor drawer in this one. I need to win this capacity to do so but mark of lost only one of their lost lost thirty three matches a run which included drawer in all four of their games at the two thousand Eighteen World Cup style might could be the white again here Orland very strong defensively. Under McAfee's we know and I was still in the game against Sweden Switzerland last time out until a shameless Coleman Red card and seventy-six kind of tip the balance of that one. I think the thing I worry about with island is the most exciting young bright spots in the final flat. Iron calling is is out for this So I don't know if they've got that much going forward that can hurt Denmark and Interestingly interestingly You look at recent meetings. They drew these two teams drew. Both of that nation's league meets ends and in the reverse qualifying fixture so they've played each other quite recently and those lost three meetings have all been drawers. And I think that could actually be the way to go again okay chaps between Thursday and Choosey thereof I think some fifty qualifying games taking place so so There's a lot to pick out. I think Dan you've focus your attention on the weekends Domestic Action Avenue. So have you got for us from the other. Euro Euro qualifiers. Yeah I really look at Bosnia to be Italy. Fifteen to eighty today being absolutely untouchable in qualifying seven zero seven. But then they could say that fell off the pedal now that they're qualified defied and Bosnia thing look over priced the one they lost two home games. Bosnia binat graduate school on of nine one And they've actually go ED and Jack Back in the fold now knows he's at the top and they pushed Italy very close in injury and engineered. Fourteen shots I mean. What was the narrow two loss in that game so I think at Bosnia to be? It's and so on Friday and it kicks off out. Thinks seven forty five a month. Yup Sounds Right. Okay and Israel to beat. Poland is my over one Poland Poland already qualified as well It's pretty much of the automatic qualification race. Stupa slight chance but I I just really look at the way. They've been playing recently. The beats in Australia and as well as up to destroy the Minnows Latvia against that twenty eight shots In that game and I have some very exciting players going forward mine is the boy who and move severe in the summer but more prominently Erin. You're Harvey's still top of Euro Twenty Twenty qualifying with eleven goals multiple for a team which looked like they might not qualify and add on. Say those again might be worth looking score markets but Israel to beat Poland. It'd be okay if you're hankering for domestic action this weekend it's strictly load division. Only hopefully Dan's got some good tips. I got one from Lee. Won One league to League one SIP is Relegation by all boating hunter. Mk Don's but when overshot upset that deduct points deduction is still modest to at the moment. But they're actually perform since like reshape. The squadron the young blind so much now improve in that also illegal elite brochure overs and two hundred. Two fleetwood really are a team that could win promotion. So that's that's a big improvement and thumbs at one point from it all knowing league games. They're shocking run hours left now. Russia Mar in came in has been appointed as it was playing for them. But he's he's giving out the Playa now he's just GonNa folks are managing big mess out so sixty four big lead suit. You got Forest Green top of the League Plymouth Thirteenth now. Sometimes the obvious ones comey before thirteen. Ten when it's all over the place seen Plymouth loss game they lost league during the last four hundred zero x In is down there. That is a huge Dhabi to lose that game in such a manner. It's going to take a recovering from. I believe four your screen game radio eighty well one the last to leave the best defensive record in division quite personally lovely stuff. Let's get the naps is will not be. Ev Lay got yes. I'M GOING TO AUSTRIA MINUS ONE GOAL ON HANDICAP AGAINST Macedonia to win by two goals or more Noticed Estonia given a good account themselves In Europe European qualification But I've just looked completely out of debt when I've come up against biggest is little to no loss timeout conceded. Twenty shots in that game lost four four one at home the reverse fixture Austria failed to register a single shot on target in that game. Austrians have some excellent players. Going forward. Marseils Bits Valentin Lazaro in particular and I think they can help them backup the goals in Vienna. Okay the twenty. Twenty European champions will be Belgium and they can show why beating Russia at ten to eleven. Damn what's your nap. Getting going to stick with the football four league GONNA go for a league want Black Pau Eighth Wimbledon or twenty four six big enough Piece of our four free at home in their last home game the the only one point out of the playoffs Wimbledon have lost seven. The Away Games. The exception was white south shocking. The poorest team in that division and we can keep lies as well. We're not seeing important to send them back for them. Stood Out mcdonagh's midfielder on loan for Brian Easter as well so tough guy for Wimbledon then okay so hopefully. "Comey's must be able to welcome back it's look at Saturday's key. Euro twenty twenty qualifies involving some of the nations closest to US shows. We'll start with Northern Ireland versus the Netherlands in Group C. The situation here is that northern and needs to win both their final games and hope their rivals drop points then. They've done quite quite well to stay on the coattails grovel because really tough juries and they absolutely but the fact is the sevens one with Patty power to beat the Netherlands who have four to eleven five it sixteen to a five that draw the atmosphere will be pumping wins apart. But can they get anything out of this lightly to get anything out of it. Although nothing worth mentioning it probably be Michael. O'Neill last home in guy in charge. He's agreed to stay on as long as they're still in the euro is You know he's actually said. He threw their base looking extremely unlikely. Now they were close to get but not magnificent result Whitehall. I laid Quite lights on and can see three late goals. I'll just feel that this show in that game. I am the game against Germany. The two tough games I recall about an attack on a chance there in an even more must-win situation they're going to be even more positive So that's what that leads onto. My Selection Hollandse win and both teams to score twelve to five. Looks looks at Bat. Samir if you look at you're going to think where's the threat gonNA come from but I do play a very positive. Expansive Aggressive Star football over in Holland didn't look water so in in the in the reverse fixture just think they're going to have too much fall power over all members to buy a nine hundred fifty one international was really taken these Guy Monica since he's going to Leon now being looked at apparently Boston beer clubs labs Kifah you still Holland. It's been defeated incredibly heavily twice and few people think that he will get through on the third time of trying how ever only alternatives have big problems associated with them because they either don't have a majority in the Commons all the government, simply implement them. Commentary majority, but the conservative led government, many members of that simply would refuse to implement many members of the cabinet would walk, and they would be an attempt to overthrow Theresa May. If she went to live with it second referendum, there seems little chance that getting through the Commons gratification just canceling the Brexit process. Again, it's not clear that the government would enact it. Anyway, facilitator, meanwhile, the prime minister has self the authority of her is draining like being passed text messages between conservative MP's off king whether or not she shouldn't just go this week.
