Bloomberg taking steps to enter presidential race as a Democrat
"Former New York City Mayor. Mike Bloomberg appears to have taken the first steps to start a presidential campaign today the New York Times first to report that he dispatched staffers in the Great State of Alabama. Today which doesn't have a particularly doesn't have a particularly important role to play at this point in the Democratic primary. Hey but Alabama does have an early filing deadline for candidates getting their name on the ballot for the Democratic primary. So we'll be talking a little bit about that Bloomberg News later Iran tonight. That news is causing lots of buzz and interestingly lots of ripples of speculation about other Democratic candidates who might still still get in. If Mike Bloomberg's apparent move here can be seen as a sign that actually. It's not too late for more Democrats to get into the race to try to win this nomination nation. I will just mention that our Pulitzer Prize winning colleague Eugene Robinson reported online tonight that multiple sources have told. Excuse me that a single source has told him that. Former Attorney General Eric holder has been talking to strategists about whether he ought to get in the race as well again gene Robinson reporting matt tonight with a single source but if eric holder is potentially in the mix and Mike Bloomberg looks like he might be in the mix. Well Geez just when you thought it was all all over. It's never
One Crazy Day Showed How Political Chaos Threatens the World Economy
"Welcome back the panelists here watching post columnist Eugene Robinson Christian soldiers Anderson Thomas for the Washington examiner but the order of political reporter for the daily beast a New York times columnist Brett Stevens welcome to you all I think the best way to set up this conversation is imminent I want to read for you enter someone's taken Erik Erikson's take on the president this week they both agree on one thing that the president had erratic behavior and that's as far as they get here is Andrew Sullivan if you can begin even to engage this bizarre dangerous arranged an ignorant stream of consciousness and try to discern some kind of logical pattern your brain will break Kurtz I'd rather have a president whose behavior makes other people feel comfortable being brained jackasses than a Democrat who wants to take away my health care while giving healthcare to illegal aliens the president maybe not in his behavior but I'll take his crazy over the insanity the Democrats would unleash on the United States but Stevens I feel like that that it's an interesting the Erik Erikson rationale I thought I heard a little bit that Russian now I mean I bit in India and is Mister McIntyre it's extraordinarily Manichaean I mean let's let's see who the Democrats wind up wind up nominating the real issue for for Republicans to simply to call out the fact that the president does not stand in any way for the traditional conservative economic principles that have defined the party for the better part of the last seven years they don't even stand never mind the economic principles broader principles of character I mean what what we saw over the last few days is a president who is either mentally unwell or morally unfit maybe both I don't know but it's important to simply call these things as we as we see them yet you you you have behavior that is is unprecedented in any kind of presidential history the United States and or or frankly elsewhere so when I hear guys like Eric saying well you know this is at the end of the day this is a choice you know I'd actually rather have a candidate on the democratic side who at least doesn't scare me every single every single morning I feel like this is the entire debate of the twenty twenty Kamp just right there that's right I'm part of what's going on in the background as the president's comments about particularly China trade unfolded over the last week is that the way the United States government things about our relationship with China has changed dramatically right now I can tell you that White House officials think it's less and less likely the U. S. will actually reach a trade deal with China and rather is going to lurch from a truce to troops postponing Terron postponing punitive action that's because within the hang over there I'll always hang over their heads because in the background in the White House and the intelligence community they see China first and foremost as a national security concern rather than as an economic concern and that's where voters come down question as well research center has been studying American views on China for the last decade and a half we are at record high levels of American saying that they have an unfavorable view of China and most of its actually driven not by economic concerns in the poll most people say they're okay with China being economically strong it's as national security concerns that our chief and this is why I think the president is able even in the midst of what feels like complete chaos in terms of the trade issue to have a little bit of latitude there were his economic job approval remains about eight to ten points higher than his overall job approval but it's going down and it and it should be good look at the car of the real world results of what our Donald trumps a radic behavior problems whether through mental deficiency or moral deficiency or some combination thereof look look look at your four one K. Hey you know go on it go online right now and look at it and see what happened to it on Friday I chose not to hear our number to know I'm not going there either but it's it's you know it's extraordinary and and when I hear people work for congressman talk about you know the art of the deal you know Donald Trump didn't write a word of that book are you including the title was written by Tony Schwartz with whom I went to school hope to hold one wonders of Donald Trump is read it but what has it gotten the United States it is made knoll agreements is gotten us nowhere in in so this idea that there's this sort of master player a four dimensional chess whose I will say that the only not true the only thing I will say to people if there's one thing you got to understand about Donald Trump is that he doesn't believe anything's on the level and I do think that that is an invalid anything's on a level whether it's the press whether it's with the government he's always believed they were skins he doesn't believe anything is on the level including a conversation he will have with somebody was an ally breath yeah as in this is a big piece of his economic messaging at the moment which is he's got a juggle both touting what he believes is a very strong economy trying to keep those economic job approval numbers high will serve laying the groundwork for if this begins to fall apart to be able to say it's the fed's fault it's China's fault it's congress' fault for not passing my new now this is a classic autocratic strategy when your economy goes south you blame speculators you blame the media you blame someone else the list of you know one of the problems I have with a lot of the sort of conservative apologetics for trump is the only thing you have to separate the signal from the noise and the reality of the trump presidency is the noise is the signal yeah and and and its dangers we are blundering our way into a a a contest with with the Chinese that's not about national security it's a contest of face between two leaders who see themselves as essentially you know the Supreme us us a supreme leader and for which neither of them is easily going to back down we ended up in a war in World War two in part because we were trying to impose an economic embargo on Japan these things have a president and there and there were some we should be worried about China but trying to wage a trade war with it with no outcome insight is going to have consequences these questions of signal noise and art of the deal are gonna be front of mind at the G. seven and this is something that White House officials are really desperate for keep an eye out for some sort of and now it's in our conversation about a bilateral trade deal with the U. K. the White House would love to say that they're going to be sort of throwing some sort of assistance Boris Johnson as he's negotiating to leave the European Union toward the end of October as far as this question of national security and how that affects United States trade relationship with China it's an existentialist you for the US China relationship arguably the most important relationship in the world and for White House officials right now they see this as incredibly origin they believe the view not that China is in danger of overreaching in Hong Kong they're worried about concerns over region Taiwan the navy spends a huge percentage of its budget on activity in the South China Sea I'm for trump and his aides to navigate that is increasingly complex for what it's worth this is a week that we saw and while it's sort of a motley crew of Republic of sort of trump opponents on the right they're Startin to particulate let me week we had one and bill weld here's a few others and a challenge and a primer a friend calls the guy just cleared your calendar for reason I know what it is you need to prime where the press and I'm like are you completely out of your mind here's the deal this guy isn't fit for office every time he opens his mouth he tells a lie we're watching a full blown meltdown of the present United States he is been melting down like a nuclear reactor I know Joe Walsh was one of the three people in there by the way he's actually officially announced this is a guy who's who at one time tweeted if trump didn't win grab a musket do you see the people that have turned on this president you start to wonder is it going to happen in America actually of the of the three of them more significant in terms of public opinion might be Scaramucci actually because people know him and know the moves yeah and and he's come out and you know sort of New York facet of gone all in on on the sort of Clint this is crazy Martin this is this is very interesting at this G. seven how the push back from other leaders is coming is very gentle with very sort of measured but but it's definitely there yeah but it is me is it not it's weak but it's it's it's let's just get through this yes it's a you know it is the G. six plus one at this point and the bilateral deal with the U. K. they announce something that is going no where in in the house of representatives according as closely unless they are Linda she was settled in it and it won't be settled with a with a no deal brought any announcement that might come on the U. K. would be almost entirely symbolic before the White House even a symbolic when it's something they're desperate for right now well they think they're doing Johnson a favor I think in his evening coaches shins whether that's true or not I think it's

That's a fair assessment. We got some serious stuff to get to this morning. Guys police missouri arrested a man yesterday after he brandished a loaded technical style rifle inside a walmart twenty year old man was taken into custody within three minutes of police receiving panicked calls to the springfield missouri zuri walmart. The man was pushing a shopping cart and recording himself walking through the store. When the manager pulled the fire alarm that's according to our local affiliate station. The suspect back then made his way out an emergency exit. We're an off duty. Firefighter held him at gunpoint in the parking lot until police arrive suspect seen here was wearing a bulletproof vest had more than one hundred rounds of ammunition on them. Police <hes> still determining a motive but say the man's intent was to quote obviously cause chaos. No shots were fired. Thank god nobody was injured. In the incident charges of making a terrorist threat in the first degree or pending according to jail records the only thing about the man's motive at this point but we'll certainly stay on that story now to the pressure to pass new gun legislation more than two hundred mayors have signed a letter calling on the senate it to return early from summer break to pass the background check bills already approved by the house ohio congressman and democratic presidential candidate. Tim ryan has joined a caravan caravan of protesters headed to senate majority leader. Mitch mcconnell's home state of kentucky to pressure him to act while mcconnell has rejected the call to return to washington. His tone has seen to change when it comes to taking up any gun legislation at all piccola. You're calling people back in early for to address gun <music> if we did that. We just have people scoring points. Nothing what happened there has to be a partisan discussion here of what we can agree on background checks and <hes> red flags would probably lead the discussion but <hes> a lot of other things will come up as well but but we can't do is is failed to fail to pass something by by just locking up and failing to pass. That's that's unacceptable. Leader leader mcconnell also said a ban on assault weapons likely will be among the proposals discussed although he expressed skepticism over the effectiveness of the nineteen ninety-four assault weapons fan so no i'm listening to leader mcconnell there and for him a little bit of progress there perhaps or some movement where he says..

"That's all I'm saying they made a career out of doing this notaries. What I'm saying is because from what I hear in two thousand six remember when they came out they did a playoff game. And everybody's. Lights out days right after the game a whole whole team from what I heard they were talking about that before it's the whole is the reason why the entire team was doing it not three guys. So what I'm saying is they saw that every time I had a sack well a big hit or play that was talked about as a team. So you don't you don't wanna do anything encourage these guys? I'm not saying you're going to do anything different. I'm not I'm not saying you change or be a different person. But what I'm saying is you've you jump out there, and you make those kind of comments, and you not the guy who can back it up. You're going to be in trouble. We don't even have to go that deep if you you play basketball or you try to. Ain't somebody if you went to one of these gyms around here locally and somebody just say, oh Marcellus all about the smash on Marcellus. It may shift the in your entire approach. You may just be going there. Just get a good run get now all of a sudden, I'm gonna give him a little bit more. All that's true. Charles Oakley angle, come out of me. I was going to bowl Marcellus while the courts Reinhart her. Let me. Maybe a different exam. Let me give you a different. There's a reason why the patriots handled their business better than others. I think it's part of part of this Eugene Robinson. He was playing in the ultimate Super Bowl. But he still went out tricking before the Super Bowl and got in trouble. Everybody's focused isn't the same just because it's Super Bowl. Eugene Robinson thought he was given one hundred percent. And then they put the cuffs on a whole different story off of that. Again. I'm just telling why give the patriots with the Super Bowl is nine time. Why give them anything that just puts them on EDS? Please give me example. Oh, seven undefeated patriots. Plasco birds went out there and say we beat new when their city plaques exactly what actually up. How do we know the kale Cam backing up? So in this moment 'cause he's gonna kill robe coal. We'd never heard of even though he hit the guy late last week or absent affairs got Dell plan was scared money. I get a lot of a lot of a lot of fear based Oatman don't say some because look how he's going respond to it. I won't show best. I won't Tom Brady to go out there and light it up against if I'm a true believer in me. And my team I'm not going to say, oh, I hope autism slip. I wanna I wanna make lip. I'm not gonna sit there and fear in hope. My words butter him to a point where he's not his greatness. That's where I'm I'm a little distant from that kind of motivation. I stick around later show. We'll give your approval rates for the kill Roby Coleman and uncle Jimmy will weigh it. Right. Jimmy. What are your thoughts so far? Oh, my oh. "Struggling for title about just dude. We can do branding grew Dr that today I can go with anything. I would go in branding mogul. To show my daughter bought me back. I love that. You blame that on your daughters. That's Donny Deutsch as Republican communication strategist and MSNBC political contributor, Rick Tyler, Republican strategist and MSNBC political analysts, Susan Percy, oh Pulitzer prize winning columnist associate editor of the Washington Post and MSNBC political analysts. Eugene Robinson joining our conversation, chief White House correspondent for the New York Times Peter Baker, Joe, and Mika the morning before we get into the scrip. Casey wanna talk about what we saw in Capitol Hill yesterday with the senators. First of all, I'm listening to John Cornyn a guy who comes in the show who like feign ignorance about why former officials have security clearances, he knows he does, and I think what you're seeing reflected across the Republican congress in this case is actually an antipasto towards John Brennan. That has frustrated a lot of them. I think it's a little bit separate from what's gone on with Trump. I also was surprised that there wasn't more pushback on this because I mean, imagine if the partisan roles were. Versed, and there are plenty of times in in covering congress supreme court fights. Good example, you can replay the same quotes and put them in the mouth of the people from the other party. When the that fight goes around, comes back around. Again, this is a situation where if President Obama would be doing this, imagine the outrage that would be coming from the Republican side. It's a similar dynamic here. I do think Susan Collins is somebody who has been willing to challenge the president. She obviously had kind of that message there. Bob corker somebody who is willing to speak out strongly Bob corker is not going to be in congress a couple months, and that is actually, I think one of the untold stories of the midterms is the absolute gutting of the anti-trump wing of the Republican party. No matter what happens. Vis-a-vis the Democrats and the wave there were going to be far fewer people holding elected office in Washington who are willing to oppose the president in his own party. She's interesting game to play what if the other prisoners on a daily basis, two days ago, what if Obama had called a woman a dog, a white woman. Dog. Imagine that. And it's just amazing on a daily basis what we put up with except as a norm, which you've assigned it to any of the previous present would be a stunning impossibility in what the reaction's would be some activities. One thing that the United States Senate has always held very dear to it itself is its own institutional perogatives they've, that's why they've protected the filibuster for for so many years that there has been this kind of sense that what goes around comes around someday. We're not going to be in charge, and so it's in the interest of everybody to protect the rights of the minority, and that is really teetering on the brink..

"Welcome back to morning, Joe. It is Tuesday, August, seventh still with us. We have former aide to the George W Bush White House and state departments, Elise Jordan Pulitzer prize winning columnist and associate editor of the Washington Post Eugene Robinson, joining the conversation, political reporter for the Washington Post moderator of Washington week on PBS and MSNBC political analyst. Robert Costa also with us senior reporter at Vanity. Fair and NBC news and MSNBC contributor Emily Jane FOX. She has new reporting on hope Hicks this morning, which will get to in just a moment. So we've got a few people from Washington here, so we feel guilty about we. We only talk about, you know, the Red Sox, the. Every go gene, the nationals as they had like a three game winning streak last week, any any chance the nationals are going to come back? Well, you know, hope springs, eternal, you know, Joe, you're a Red Sox fan, so so yeah, there's a, there's a chance, the chances. I wouldn't say it's between slim, slim and none, but the window is shrinking. Let us let us say Bryce Harper is finally got hot. It's is recent. Batting average is like four seventy one, which is good, and so they'll make a run and they got great great pitching when the pitcher's or actually on. So let's hope they make a run, but it's going to be. It's gonna be tough. And Bob Kosta there always is silver lining. I mean, you could still be an Orioles fan right? I grew up loving Cal Ripken, but as a net as someone who I grew up in Philly, but we live in DC. You have to appreciate the nationals which I do. I only wish max sherzer pitch every evening. Yeah. And maybe they could give me a more than one and a half runs per outing. Joe south, for I mean, the guy pitches one extraordinary game after another. Maybe they'll give him an average of one and a half runs came. But like let's go onto news because we've got some some news Mika about Donald Trump. Junior again, talk talk, talk, talk need to stop talking. Well, they need to listen to lawyers, not TV lawyers. They're real lawyers and just stop talking because it makes it worse every day. It's it's beyond. Donald Trump. Junior has said a lot about his twenty sixteen meeting with Russians beginning with his quickly discredited claim that it was about adoption. I guess ally. The president's son insists in a radio interview that any investigation into the matter is a big waste of time. This is just another distraction when again, after two years of stop investigation with everyone in the media, everyone in the FBI everyone, whoever is the whole world is looking at this. They have yet to produce anything that even remotely resembles what they've been talking about it yet every other day. Oh my God, we got it though. Dow's we've been, he's been. I've been hearing this for two years. Donny issue Dopp Shen it's near and dear to my heart because I have two Russian, opted sons about it. Did that come up. When in the meeting with Vissel guy. But like I said, that was the primary thing that we about. That's not the premise that got them in the room, and then they started. It was essentially a bait and switch to talk about that, and everyone has basically set that testimony already. I mean, so this is this is nothing new and but like I said, it was, I don't understanding that's an important issue to you and near and dear to many people's hearts. But this was nothing that was a campaign issue to us, wasn't relevant to us, and it wasn't something that we were going to do anything with where Willie Reed away began. Again, when when you have these people coming on and saying. There's been this investigation and nothing's come out of it. Well, not you. You've had actually the United States government dight a couple dozen Russians. They have the proof from what our United States military discovered what the Intel community uncovered, but Kirstin Nilsson what Dan Coats, white FBI director, what everybody Donald Trump's, own administration, junior, junior, senior, and his administration came out and said, the Russians tried to undermine American democracy in two thousand sixteen and the Russians are going to try to undermine American democracy in two thousand eighteen..

And how would you describe the Panthers reaction to it so Kelvin Benjamin in a nutshell said that he wished somebody other than the Panthers had drafted him earlier in his career, and that he had played with a quarterback like Aaron Rogers or ally manning or Ben Rothlisberger basically naming three future hall of famers and ripped our quarterback while. Doing. So so that was it it was an interview with the Atlantic and why he chose to take that. Route I don't know Eugene just I didn't feel like when. He was here even after he left it there was animosity or bad blood that k b, and the team but there's gotta be some hurt feelings over that's the Panthers credit their reaction when Ashley Greg Olsen and.
