"Express a range of emotions on glad that you shared that because that leads us into the final topic before. I have a fun questions at the end. Here for you I mentioned therapy for black kids. Tell us a little bit more about this. How winded that get started. And i'll go ahead and share the website for that. Yes oh i started there before. Black kids The idea came to me actually during the pandemic But it wasn't until earlier this year in february of twenty twenty one that the the content in the website was released a really the focus of being able to make sure that we address the need of a black youth and so i recognize that in the midst of the ratio reckoning this less that a lot of conversations well-focused dan on on adults and not so much on kids and specifically black kid And so i wanted to provide some resources information for parents as ways to To help kids sort of copa navigate. These challenges around dealing with race racism and racial injustice but also the idea of just focusing on on healthy emotional development and so adding. That's a part of the Sort of development that's oftentimes left out particularly we talk about schools in how schools don't really spend a lotta time of about emotionally aware awareness. And so. I really wanted to do this as a way to get some tools to do that. And so Therapy for black kids We try to host events about what's a month of focus on a variety of topics. And so at this point And people can go to the website and get to the social media pages in the facebook page But we've had Events around autism awareness and talked about autism black community. We've talked about again. A couple of racism in boston is on some support that we've also talked about other ways to engage in resiliency and racial ethic socialization through talking about career paths and sort of career exploration with kids and sort of what that means to to talk with them about the options on that they haven't gordon secularism science and math or even psychology for example Two last questions before we let you go. You have any specific advice for for black students. Were particularly black. Students are interested in attending graduate school for psychology or just in general any advice for specifically designed for black students who are interested in furthering their academic career. Yeah i would definitely say no mentorship is really important and so there may not be opportunities to At your undergrad university to have a black person that you can sell to get connected with so definitely consider going to conferences as an undergrad that those great opportunities to do some network in you know give people's business cards are find out about their website and reach out to them instead of email to maybe ask some questions Think about mentoring as dead. It always has to be like this ongoing relationship. That's help with an the great but sometimes you can pick someone's brain or chat with them for thirty minutes on our against and really helpful information about the graduate school process in so I've had students reach out to me before and Think last year sometime. I had like a conversation with the student who was exiting going into applying for a doctoral program on his ecology. And so you know given give him some advice About that in talk with him. I thought was helpful. And he expressed that to me. So i would say you know. Reach out to people Most vanity. Pretty open type admitting to communicate and so afraid to like send an email to say. I'm impressed by your work. Or i have an interest in a similar topic of. Would you have some time to maybe answer some questions about about getting into college. Est very good suggestions. I'd also add that similar audience. I've asked a little bit more detail on. Hbo us as well. Historically black colleges and universities and where in response to that. We're working on including a comprehensive list on her website for that so that's another way to Help out Some of the fun questions. I know you have to leave in like a minute here We always ask our guests a couple of fun questions. Why is what is your favorite term principle or theory. And why i think for me. Probably my favorite Approach is going to be like Looking at cognitive theories. And so i think the way that we sort of think about life and approach life Is important in an eight hour interactions and so you know for me particular during the pandemic. I've been talking a lot about like giving ourselves grace and like you know we have to really shift the way that we think about life at this point and even moving forward on this. I think that would probably be the thing that sticks the most for me and along the same lines. This is going to be a little tougher for you. What's the most important thing that you've learned in your life I would probably say like the most important thing is to continue. Continue fighting for whatever is important to you in. So i think like for me understanding like this whole graduate journey being a first generation college student i i had aspirations to go to graduate school or get an advanced degree. I didn't really know what that looked like at the time instead of just continuing to learn to explore and to get information and that has really helped me to continue you on my career and concedes advancing grow throughout this profession dr turner. I know you have to get going. I appreciate your time and willingness to share your thoughts and experiences and especially the advice with our listeners thanks again for your time Let's keep in touch and i will Definitely share a little. Bit more about your work and your websites on our website when we actually post this. So is there anything else that you'd like to bring up or discuss on this podcast. That's it i think again. "Hi everybody we are honored to have a mayor jessica. Petty here with us From the city of erlanger as well as enemy randall. the director of economic development at the city of orlando. Thank you both for taking the time and thank you for all the work. You've been doing So i wanted to kick it off with you know. Tell us about this one point two million dollar grant for small businesses. And why you in. The city decided to take this action. Thanks brand. I really appreciate you have an assigned to talk about this. Awesome incentive That we can offer our businesses So the city of erlanger was allowed to take up to one point. Seven five million dollars in cares money and the way this works for the city's it's the reimbursement of money that we've already paid out so it's slightly different than the p money So we had to spend the money prior to actually receiving it from the state So we received our total allotment Which was above and beyond anything that we had budgeted for so we are able to really turn around and pump it right back into our economy in the best way that fits erlanger. We were able to allocate the one point two million. Once we saw the second round of shutdowns in november We knew we didn't know that there was going to be a second round. pp We saw the businesses struggling. We heard the conversations And we felt like we needed to take action. We had these these funds available So we started developing a program immediately. our business community is far too important to have any of them struggling And in reality they were all struggling in some way. There's nobody that's not affected by this. I've been saying there are some businesses that have done well during the pandemic and there are some that have done okay. There's about twenty percent that have just been decimated this past year and so we're really grateful that you guys have taken this action any. What's the response been. Thus far from the small businesses are from from the folks that you're out there talking to. Yeah so i've heard from a number of businesses that they are planning to apply We have received two applications so far just a weekend launching the program so that's really great to see I'm hopeful that we'll have quite a few businesses. It'll take advantage of this opportunity. Great can you balk folks through What's the process the finer details of the grant..

That is Kentucky Governor Andy Bashir, giving an update just moments ago on the fiery crash that happened north bound on the Brent Spence Bridge early this morning, shutting that major span of I 75 down and it will likely stay that way for awhile. Ages ten and twelve were on spring break from school. John had worked the night shift the night before and drove home at six. Am that morning and went to bed. She learned Catherine. went to the Wheaton Mall. They had two dollars between them and they plan to get two slices of pizza. And Mary was happy to see them go together. She led the older one, didn't always want to spend time with their little sister, but recently, the two would become close played together like friends. But John Woke up that afternoon to an empty house. Mary had gone bowling and the boys were off playing with friends in the neighborhood. Mary came home with their younger boy. Joe Soon, after John Woke up, then he went back to bed for nap before dinner and Mary went and Rick. Some leaves in their backyard. When the sun began to go down, Mary really began to worry about her daughters. They were usually really good about being home for dinner and Sheila would call if they were at a neighbor's house playing. But Sheila had called and there had been no sign of the girls. But this is nineteen, seventy five. Your mind is not going to go to objection at this point. Nobody really thought like that. No, not then now. So they went ahead and had dinner with the two boys waiting for the girls to show up assuming they would. and. When there was still no word after they finish dinner Mary began calling around to all of their friends. No one had seen them though. So the family drove around looking for the girls and as time passed and they looked for their daughters in the Dr, the alarms really began to go off in their heads that something was wrong. So that's when they decided to call the police. But most runaways. The lions sisters, and they were nearly always found within twenty four hours. So when these girls were still missing overnight, the police began to realize that this was a case that was different. And the idea of follow play was becoming a real possibility at that point. The John and Mary told the police that this was just totally out of character for their girls both were honor roll students, and they both followed rules Catherine who went by Kate. Was the outgoing. I'm saying we're in trouble. Normally gotta go. Thanks for your call. Let's take a short break. We have thousands or millions are listening for those who are catching a little bit late. The information has come out that Sunday night. Nick Sandman who plays intramural basketball IQ of Kath was banned from campus Monday. He could not go to school today could not go to school. And it's because the investigation is ongoing, and it may take several weeks for the investigation to interview two hundred and fifty boys the great majority of whom will not talk. And then you've got an interview all the so-called chaperones and get all the tape together. "Run it Covington punish. Yeah. That's was born my family. We're hills mariner Erlanger the mayor John Patrick Graham was the mayor of Erlanger. Those are my peeps. I love Covington, and they have the leader a Covington. Throwing cub can't students under the bus is desirable. Trying to save the restaurants covington's not. Like the stupid world. Well, tomorrow, I'm going to have onto real live Indians at noon tomorrow about that. We're from South Dakota. Do you think they care? According I talked to one amiss said what we don't care about that. But they're going to be here. Anyway, we got the Indian protest tomorrow they're going to be on the warpath. So I'm thinking why not put onto Indians tomorrow real live Indians. And they generally are conservative Indians that they don't like their kind of Trump's supporters. How much Trump supporters are among the Indian tribes of South Dakota. It's funny because it's place. I go in Canada up there most people Indians and the construction guys are Indians. And all that and you get the Noam over time do summers ago before the election. Threesomes whatever and. Friends said listen, India up here love Trump. Is there any way you can get some? Mega hats. Great again hat and bring them up here because I was going to be coming up. And I said, yeah, I got like a half a dozen of them. For some reason. Fans of Trump before the election. I don't know the reasons why. But I got the hat. Well, the South Dakota in the ends of the blackfoot tribe liken to I I. That doesn't fit the narrative of the media. Does it now? No, not at all. But nowhere within every group that you're going to have, you know, your lovers and trumpeter. So according to congressman this Nathan Phillips is a well known character who pounds the drum against many groups are a conservative trying to spark a reaction to get media attention. Did he succeed? Yeah. Work this time it worked famously, Mike. I listen to this morning. You had a lot of cub cath parents on listen about eight fifteen eighteen twenty eight twenty. It was pretty good stuff. Well, we'll talk to you down the road get back to work. Mike mcconnell. Thank you. All right. Let's get your reaction seven four nine seven thousand pounds seven hundred eighteen let me give you the timeline. According to one parent. I spoke to the boys have been going. They're not these boys for about twenty five or thirty years and is a regular event for Catholic high schools and Catholic girls and boys high schools to send individuals by bus to Washington on January the nineteenth which is the date the Roe versus Wade decision was announced back in nineteen seventy three by Justice. Harry Blackmun cost one hundred twenty five bucks. And for that you get a bus ride their bus ride back. Same day. There's no hotel rooms involved, and you got a box lunch going and get a box lunch coming. So I was told early in the morning you had to get there. The rally was from ten AM to one PM on Friday. So I'm told that they got there by eight o'clock in the morning. I'm sure they slow most of them slept on the bus get out and most of them scheduled sightseeing between one o'clock and five thirty. They were told you must be on the staff. At the Lincoln Memorial the street in front you must be there at five thirty otherwise we're gonna leave you in Washington. So when the rally ended about one o'clock, they had about four hours to putz around someone's in the Vietnam war memorial, someone to certain other aspects someone to the Washington Monument, you're on your own little groups going various places, but about five o'clock, they were told you had to congregate in and around the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and a group two hundred thirteen strong of the five hundred and fifty students because if you missed the bus, you're staying here. So as as they started filtering at about four thirty quarter of five there are several liberal, extreme left-wing groups. I'm sure supported by Cincinnati city council or are there to make their lives miserable. If you're a woman at the right to life March you hear the f bomb the f bomb, you're told rotten filthy things. They're called the c word constantly by these liberal groups. It's like an assault upon your person your ears. But they're told ahead of time. Staying groups don't respond. Don't look at them. Keep your eyes forward and move on. So about four thirty quarter to five the boys from cats started filtering toward the Lincoln Memorial at this point five members of a African American protesting group protesting God knows what you call themselves. Black Israel, Israel. Members their consider themselves. Israelites started yelling words at these at these boys. Great majority were white. But there was some black kids. They call them faggots. They call them incest kids, they referred to their mother and disgusting ways, they call them, white, crackers and bigots and racist. And at one point they also taunted an African American student from cub cats by telling him, we would harvest his organs. And Nick Sam said, quote, I have no idea what that insult means. But it was startling to hear. And so these boys simply walked away and some laughed and some some simply walked away when the crowds got larger. They started asking permission of their chaperones to chant back spirit tear such as cov- cath. We won't lose. Cub cath, we won't lose that overwhelm the words of these five or six black guys the Israelites who were shouting insults at all of them about their mothers about the girlfriends about their homosexuality. Tendencies the worst kind of words or express and the media Matt did, you know, the meat did the media tell you any of this? Hell no, it didn't fit it didn't fit. So at some point. It was getting closer to five thirty and all two hundred and thirteen were there and at this point with no fracas happening. Mainly laughter. Nathan Phillips the Indian pound the drum walked through the group of cupcake. Students. They it said here comes as Indian guy pounding drum. He picked out out of the crowd. Nick sandman. I would think because he had a mega hat on the stand in front of and pound the drum for like, three minutes and salmon has said in a statement. I didn't know what to do. He said I never interacted with a protest or I did not speak to him. I did not make any hand gestures or other aggressive moves to be honest. I was startled and confused as to why he approached me we'd already been yelled at by other groups of protesters, and when the second group approached I was worried that a situation was getting out of control where adultery tempting to provoke teenagers. I believe that by remaining motionless and calm. I was helping to defuse the situation. I realized that cameras are all around me that perhaps a group of adults was trying to provoke a group of teenagers into a larger conflict. I said a silent prayer that the situation will knock it out of hand. And then concluded and the group of two hundred thirteen one eight buses they came back having conducted whether you thought was. Successful rally on behalf of life issues. And this incident was nothing to them. What had happened? They thought man. This is this is weird stuff. They didn't know that they had committed crimes against liberal media by being white male Catholic pro-life, we're in mega hats that was the offense. That's why Nathan Phillips did what he did. He didn't diffuse any crisis. There was none. Anyway, it's on tape. Nothing. He wanted to make a crisis by doing what he did if they wanted to defuse it get rid of the damn drum and beating up in someone's face. Nick Sandman did not provoke or harass anyone as I said at one of my tweets at Willie seven hundred wwl w if someone walks up to you and pounds a drum in your face and allow fashion are you harassing them or they harassing. You. Must continue five one three seven four nine seven thousand the protests continue tomorrow at cub cath with Indian tribes showing up tomorrow morning, and I'm going to have real live Indians on tomorrow at noon. But in about ten minutes, Matt's diamonds, good friend. Brian Thome will be here about the events that happened on Friday on NewsRadio seven hundred w automobile. They.
