"This gloomy weather that puts Alfred in a bad mood to the fires that are causing this gloomy weather. To, um, covered some basketball talked a little football with Solomon Wilcots. Talked a little bit about the All Star game in the All Star Week. Our poll question today from Moments during the All Star Week. What was your favorite Trevor story in the home Run Derby or Mom Marquez in the All Star Game. Nolan Erin Otto with another big ovation, or I loved everything. At K with Colorado on Twitter. You can also enter text line at 5669. Oh, cool. What are the results so far? I think they're a little bit surprising. To be honest with you. I don't know what's in last place right now. Um, true for her mom Marquez in the All Star game. Actually, it's in last place is Trevor Story in the home Run Derby. That's got 4% right now. I'm going to guess I think I know what number one is. Nolan. Erin Nado is in second to last That's got 13%. Herman Marquez in the All Star Game is in 2nd and 1st is everything at 26%. And I loved everything is in first with 56%. Did you have a chance to make it downtown for anything that was going on? I did not. Since I didn't have an ability to get in. I had no desire to go down there. Especially after what happened on Saturday. I really had no desire to go down there. And regardless of what the public officials say, Well, when you say what happened on Saturday, What do you mean Friday? Whatever day it was, uh, referring to the public officials said about what was going on there. I'm not sure I'm buying their story. Oh, you're talking about the guy that was arrested with all the PMO. I mean, they're a block and a half away from Coors Field, and you can't tell me I'm not just not buying the story that the public officials were putting out. I just not What it was that it was that it was a guns in exchange for drugs deal that way that that basically never happened. Yeah, I'm just not buying that story. And if I don't have to be down there, there's no point in me to being down there. All right. Well, that's a that's an interesting take, um, that I wasn't expecting from you. I will say this. You know, Alfred and I had to go down there. Um Monday and Tuesday. And it was the first time In a really, really long time that It just felt like downtown had a vibe. That means it wasn't the same by but it was much better than it's been. I mean, and and last year this time and the streets were empty. Okay. Last year. This time the streets were empty here in Denver. People were not back to work yet. Okay. We were still talking about vaccines and whether or not they're going to be ready and when they were going to be ready But But there is a there is a better buzz, and clearly it was last year at this time and more than it was last month or the month before that. It's growing. And people are getting back, man. Man. People are getting back to Uh, normal. You know, I was at a restaurant in Seattle over the weekend and walked into this restaurant. Is this your favorite restaurant? My favorite restaurant and I walk in there and Um, you know, I look at the the bar area. And there's like 20 seats. 2020 2020 tables available. 20 tables available. And I said, Okay, Well, you know me and my son in here. We just want to Have a seat for dinner. And the guy at the, uh, that the the host told me that it's going to be a two hour Wait. I'm looking at 20 open tables. At this restaurant, and I'm like that's it two hours, he said. We can't get bartenders and servers to show up right now. And I was like, what? Well, and that's a common thing. I was like What? I'm like, Man. I'm just looking at these. And of course, we know everybody has raised their prices. For whatever reason we call it supply chain interruption or whatever it may be, whatever whatever you want to call it, Okay, sometimes I think No, I will. Sometimes I think that people just raise their prices because they can write to compensate from maybe the prices being raised on them. In other places. I was in a home depot. Just, um Just four days ago, and I heard a gentleman say that somebody should start a class action suit against all these building supply companies Because there is no there is no reason why. These building supplies have gone through the roof the way that they have Um and you know, and I thought about it. I thought about it and I and I thought to myself, you're right. You're right. Would you tell me? You tell me some of the reasons why things have a normalized after this time that we've had. I know the Canadian border is not quite open yet, OK, it is to some Canadians. That want that haven't had their vaccines and everything. But are we are we still having shortages of people going back to work at the lumber yards? I mean, those are those happening. I think it's with record prices and record profits, and I think it's jobs everywhere. I think it's just I think it's the, uh you know, I was I was also saw today. Before before I get off my soapbox. Hey, I also saw today that there is no place in the United States where someone can work a minimal Pay job. And afford a two bedroom apartment. There is no city in America. No city in America, where somebody can go to work and make minimum wage. And afford a two bedroom apartment. And, uh, that that that is scary. So You hear that? And you say, Well, maybe they're making. Maybe they are making more money, The people who are not going to work. Maybe they're making more money not going to work than they would if they were working, And certainly you could understand that. I don't think it gives you a sense of pride. You know, taking a free check like that, But you know that's for another conversation. But I mean, people, people. And these situations have changed. People and situations have changed and we don't have the kind of Workforce that we had. And we're still seeing these, uh These huge these huge areas of influence of this population of low to medical. We're gonna call them low low wage earners. Not going to work. In restaurants, certainly in and construction and other areas where there may be some, uh, low paying wages that we haven't seen. People go back to work yet. No, and I think it's and it's a lot of folks that are in that. In the hospitality field. I mean, one of the slowest nice to come back hospitality, right. It's one of those where the jobs are available. Jobs are available. They are not. They are in some places in other places. My daughter put in an application for three places. All three of them called her back or Hari. All three She gets three jobs. She.

"Pictures are still going to kind of win the day in the end, But hitters have really started to catch up a little bit more as the weather's gotten warmer, and maybe that's not a coincidence, But I just think we have to watch. You know how the hitters react. How the pictures react the second half of the season, ESPN Sim Kirk should greatly appreciate it, Tim, you're gonna be working the National League. Dug out tonight as we continue to count down to first pitch for the 91st Major League Baseball All Star game. Of course, a couple of the storylines that we're keeping an eye on tonight. Obviously Shohei Otani right off the bat, but let's not forget for the National League, their third baseman. It's coming home. The third baseman the starting third basement tonight for the NL batting third for Dave Roberts is No. One. Erin Otto, now of the ST Louis Cardinals earlier today, he spoke with Marly Rivera, No. One Is it bittersweet to be here at course, field as an all start with a different uniform. You just enjoy the same. I'm just enjoying the same. Me. It's a little different, obviously, for sure. It's definitely different. But I mean, just being here also arguments just an, um little feeling and I'm so fortunate to be here and I love it when you are in this lineup, right and you're going to get to face Shohei Otani because you're early on, there's going to be like Do you have a technique? What have you thought? Were you watching him? What is it about Shohei? And are you looking forward to seeing this venom? Finally in a game? Absolutely. You know, I think I remember we face in the spring training 18 his very first outing, spring training, And then that was it. I made some sense. You know, I'll try to get the wind up down on deck and try to really see it. But, you know, I know he's really good. He's going to be a battle. But I gotta be ready Hit because I don't wanna give him too much. What's the most special part of being an All star? What is it about this week and this day? That is special for you guys. I think she's been with the elite of the elite, you know, and hanging out with all these guys hanging on the kitchen eating talking about game just those little things are so much fun and so special. And, um, you know you don't you don't don't take them for granted. You know, I love coming here and I love hanging out with all these guys and watching them work. It's amazing. Is there anyone that you wanted to meet that you've got to have a conversation with? I know a lot of you guys have been around for a while. So you know a lot of these guys. Anyone who wants to have a conversation you've gotten to do it. Well, you know, a lot of the guys. I mean, on our side. I feel like I've known a lot of these guys play along for a long time. I've always had conversations. I'm excited to watch parties. I'll be on the same side as him. Um and seeing live in action offices him always like Browning. Third, and I'm always tired of it. But now I'm excited to be on his team and watch him play. He's gonna be fun to watch. But obviously JD over there on their side is amazing Hitter. I love Bogart's man. He's been unbelievable this series one of my favorites to watch, so there's a lot of guys, I mean, enjoy. Well, you know, the ale has had the upper hand on the N L lately. Yeah. What do you think is gonna happen today? Do we have a prediction from Nolan Arenado? Hope we win. I think we need to win. I think everyone eight in a row right this second. That's getting that's out of control. It's time. It's time for a change. And I believe that we have a chance to do it today at his Nolan Arenado forming of the Colorado Rockies and was an offseason trade from Colorado to ST Louis, the Cardinals sending five prospects back in return to the Rockies today. No. One out of an hour. No. One Erin Outta returns to Chorus Field. He's batting third for the National League All Stars, and he's hitting in the third spots playing third base now with the ST Louis Cardinals, formerly of the Rockies, back in course, field before tonight's 91st Midsummer Classic..

"I don't care how tired he was from last night. Would take him to score. I think that you just brought up some great great information. Greatbatch, you're in Colorado. We want to see the ball fly out of the yard. I absolutely think like you said, And maybe we'll get the information. Maybe we won't that they're not going to put it in a human door so you can get up, You know, Routine populated center field is going to go out of the R and it leaves and then you win. There you go. I should look that line up to see if we score yes or no, I bet I bet the favorite is yes. I would think it would spite shooters are even with shares her and and Otani out there, I would say because you also by the way, you're going to get not only a bat in the first inning, right? Yeah. You're being on the top three hitters on each team and you're betting on on Colorado. Basically, I kind of like that. After seeing a toddy last night, having to take all those tax come out and hit tonight before he pitches. Yeah, well and think about it. I don't have the line is right in front of me. But you know, tattoos is going to lead off for the National League. I mean, you got some power he he's got 28 leads the National league. Yes, he does. So, yeah. I mean, you got some power and you got Otani with 33. He's going to lead off the American League. Yeah. Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good. I think I'll take my chance. So here's the lineups. It's tattoos. Muncie. Erin Otto will be the top three that, uh, he said he's seen one lefty in Max Muncy. And if he gets to number four, is Freddie Freeman, casting honest and Winker After that, the National League Excuse me for the American League hitting, you're going to get show ahead. We're going to get Vlady Junior and you're going to get Bogart's and then they get to 1/4 hitter. It's a judge. Yeah, I think I think I'm gonna take pretty good. I think I'm gonna take yes. For you Pop one out of the yard. I mean, it's probably what you know you're probably not getting great odds on it. But still, I mean, it's you know, money's money. I'll see what we got on this. Because this I think this is where I'm leaning for tonight. I think my first inning bet is the first one I'm gonna get in. We'll do live bets here on the show, John. I'll start putting in action. More work. We're talking about him. Yeah. Alright. Any any of your bets that you like for tonight? Four and 5 85 Let me know. I want to piggyback those 458 away can be all right. We'll get I did tell you that we would give you the guest list. Today. Dalton Johnson, who writes everything for NBC Sports Bay Area. He's going to join us in about 20 or so minutes and then Shawn Estes and we'll talk Giants second half and we will. Well, let's start this about 11 o'clock. We should have a couple of things that we need to get out of the way before 11 o'clock, But we'll do our Giants. First half superlatives. Um, I don't know if that's exactly what we're gonna call it. I think that if we want to dumb it down a little bit, it's your All Star Break Awards. All Star Break Awards will do those at 11 o'clock. We'll finish up a little conversation. We still little all Star game to hit as well. Plus, um, it is. We always do a lot of things on this show. As far as you know, what day is it? You know it's national this day. It's national that day. Today's National Day is absolutely right for a debate. We'll do it next year on the SportsCenter. You're smart speaker is a radio to hear Papa in London home. "That Justin Turner should be the starting their basement instead of Nolan Arenado. Wow, there, there's a guy that will be talked about who got snubbed. Justin Turner over the Dodgers will be a top name. Reserve outfielders Mookie bats Brian Reynolds under the radar outstanding year for Pittsburgh. Quite Kyle Schwarber made it should have made it is probably going to be replaced. As he pulled a serious hamstring yesterday, the manager said. This is not something that's going to be covered by a 10 Day. I'll stint sounds like Schwarber is gonna be one without, like more more like a month, maybe more than that. His teammate one Soto made it as did Chris Taylor, the Dodgers good for him. He's not even in everyday starter for the Dodgers, but when he plays he hits And deserves a spot on the All Star team. Um, he makes it and his teammate Justin Turner doesn't alright, starting pictures for the National League. And if anything is right, with the world take up the ground will start the game. Corbyn Burns Milwaukee Been dynamite Yu Darvish. Solid, Okay. I don't have a problem with that. I saw the Phillies hit him around yesterday. But I'll believe Darvish deserves it. Kevin Glasman has been great for the Giants. Herman Marquez of Colorado. Can't argue with that. Trevor Rogers have been the best. Um, Marlins pitcher all year. Zach well of the Phillies absolutely deserves a nod. If it weren't for the grime, he'd be right there as a top along with burns. And Gausman, a top Cy Young candidate and Burns. His teammate Brandon Wardrobe also makes the thing. So you got to Milwaukee starters deserved you've got to Milwaukee reliever Josh Shader. Greg Kimble's having a great year for the Cubs. Marc Melanson makes it for the Padres and Alex Reyes, the closer for the Cardinals. Um um and that fills out the rest of your acid. You know the starters, word for the A L. Perez Guerrero semi endeavors. Bogart's trout judge Today Oscar Anne Attain Ian Trout's got to be replaced because of injury, and Posey Freeman Frazier. Erin Auto to tease Acuna, Castano's and Winker in the National League. So, uh, no great surprises for me the only one that jumps off the page and I got to. This is just a list on MLB dot com. I don't have all the numbers in the statistics. Every is having. I remember when they word debating the debate was honest, ER, who is going to win the last vote? When I got down to the three finalists, one that was legitimately close. You can make an argument. Either way, was No. One Arena or the Cardinals and or Justin Turner of the Dodgers. And after crunching the numbers, I said, I would probably vote for Turner. That is a guy on my fantasy team that by the way, um and not Erin Otto, but the game is in Colorado. It's Aaron Adel's old hometown, uh said, Well, if Baron Otto starts and find Turner can come in Oops. Turner doesn't make the team. 33 men roster. And he didn't make the team Who's the I don't even know if they have a quote unquote back up. Third baseman Let me look at the nationally grassroots in reserve infielders. Escobar. I guess he's the only Arizona guy that that's, uh, squeeze him out. You've got Albies at second base, cooperated. Shortstop Cronin worth second base months. He's your backup, first baseman trade turn and your backup shortstop. I guess Eduardo Escobar had to make it one Arizona player to make and they decided to go with Escobar instead of a Justin Turner. I think he got stiffed. Alright. And yes, we are a lot of baseball action from today, as I mentioned at the top of the show Happy pulls in July, everybody It is one of those days where you d mark for taking a look at the big picture on a major league Baseball seasonal calendar. Memorial Day is one July. 4th is another. Certainly July 31st this year is not to like 31st. It's July 30th because they have the trade deadline moved up 24 hours earlier. It's probably a calendar thing in a weekend thing, but I know for a fact, the trade deadline this year is on July 30th rather than the 31st. So that is another day where you certainly make note of the standings? Whose where? How many games back who's in first place? How many are within X amount of games of getting a wild card spot? July July 4th. There's always a day that I Take note of where the standing set in all of professional baseball, So we'll do some of that for you. We're gonna talk plenty about the NBA final got a couple of good guests coming on as a matter of fact one to give us a son's perspective. And want to give us the box point of view. Because that is your NBA final. That's coming up starting When does he get underway Tuesday night? Yes, NHL tomorrow Game four. And the Montreal Canadians stave off elimination. Gonna be hard pressed and their chance to win the series is not great, although I don't even know if I apologize for this last night. I said last night, there have been series in the National Arche League where teams have rallied from down three. Nothing. To come back and win. It's never happened in the NBA ever in the history of the NBA Any seven game series. No team has ever come back from down three. Nothing, and I said, I know it's happened several times in the national our colleague. But I said it had never happened in the Stanley Cup final that was incorrect. The Toronto Maple Leafs did it I think, 75 years ago, 1947 Stanley Cup final Somebody tweeted me, and I thank them for hit me up and alerting to me When I get things wrong. I like to correct them, And I did say yesterday on the show it had never happened in Stanley Cup finals. It did. Before yours truly ever took a breath. And you know, I'm not a millennial. I've actually been around this world for a while. But I think somewhere in the forties was back in the 40 or 50 long, long, long, long, long time ago. Back when it was just the original eight. There weren't 31 teams in the National Hockey League, so I don't want to slightly. Toronto Maple Leafs in their accomplishments of it's happened once in the history of the National Hockey League that the team has come back from a three nothing deficit to win the Stanley Cup. Good luck to the Canadians in their attempt to become the second to ever get that done. That's on Monday night Tuesday night, we get the NBA final underway. And man, I think this is close. I'm telling you right now I'm rooting for the sons. I have a financial reason to root for the sun's AK. I bet him when the playoffs started at 14 1 to win it all. Um and I like some guys on the sons. There are some, uh, I had a chance. Interview. Monty Williams report. He's a good guy. I have no problem rooting with him..

Just it just It's just It's just so good. Jack Corrigan Joining us, of course, Field as Game two against the Cardinals is happening at 6 10. By the way, it's supposed to be first pitch, and does it look like the weather is going to cooperate on that side of town? Um, yeah, We're hopeful. There's a lot of blue sky overhead. There's a several big cloud banks. But talking to some of the grounds crew people, they seemed a lot more confident. Of not having a delayed tonight as much as you can be confident this time of year in the late afternoon early evening about the weather any time that is, that is absolutely true. Still, we were we were talking earlier. And, you know, I think that you've probably had some of the most incredible experiences obviously being in the booth and calling baseball games for as long as you've had. But when? When you see that moment last night and not knowing how the crowd was going to react to Nolan, Erin Otto, I mean it totally soften me up. I was like you got to be kidding me. I mean, it. Just it brought lots of emotions swirling And how was it for you? Yeah. I mean, there was certainly the anticipation that the crowd would react positive, positive lead to Nolan. I mean, there's no reason why they wouldn't for you know, for the most part I thought the Rockies did a great job in terms of honoring what Nolan has done for the franchise. They had a video tribute on the big board before the game, and I love but black, he said. I told Aaliyah's to do a Molina. And for folks who don't know Yadier Molina, the longtime Cardinals catcher, many times when a cardinal of former cardinal player comes back to ST Louis, especially one who's Benefactor in ST Louis Success, Yadi figures out a way that he has to fix his equipment or check some spot in the grass where there's a weed that somehow popped up. And then that puts the spotlight on that guy at the plate, and he's allowed to, um, be washed over if you will, with the salute from the fans, and he gets a chance to return the favor, and that's just how it played out Last night, Joe Joe and And you could tell that that Nolan was touched by it. And all all the good things you wanted to have. And then the Rockies won the game. So it was the best of everything. Yes, it was. It was the best of everything. And look, the Rockies don't look now have won four in a row. And, you know, I was getting beat up a little bit on on social media and on our text line, because I was excited that the Rockies swept the pirates now. Yes, I know. It is the Pittsburgh Pirates. And yes, it did happen at home where the Rockies have played pretty well this year. I mean, they're 29 16 at home. But then everyone was like, Let's see what they do against the Cardinals, and they got the win last night and it was a great win for this team. Well and what I tell people. I mean, not that it puts them at the level of the Dodgers and the Padres of the Giants right now on the division, But in mid May they were 14 games below 500 now. I mean, you're looking there only 12 games below 500. But you're you can look at it on the other side and say they were 14 below at that point, and they have played Pretty competitive baseball since a couple of games above 500. It's not a small sample. It's you know, 40 odd games, so I think the way they have played over the last six weeks More indicative of the type of team they are and and as these young guys get more experience, more growth. Look what Brendan Rodgers is doing. Um Over the last month as he has started to feel more comfortable in the big leagues. Jonathan does another guy, Um, this is a team like Charlie Blackmon said after the ball game last night. This is a team that's starting to come together. They're not a pennant contending team yet, but they're also not the team that folks talked about being the worst in Rocky's history, not by a long shot. Jack. When we come back, I'm going to break for traffic..

Yeah, It definitely made me have a different feeling on how I looked at Nolan Erin Otto. After the way things turned out and You know, As I said yesterday on the show when you look at the jerseys that are worn at course field There's like you can count on one hand, the ones you usually see you still see some Troy Tulowitzki. Okay, You still see two, Loew's jersey. You still see tied Helton's Jersey You still see Larry Walker's jersey? Now you also see some Trevor story and you know what? Nolan Coronado's Jersey is everywhere. It is everywhere for people to see. And last night Yeah, listen, it was great to see him at the game. It was great to see him get acknowledged the way that he did, and it was great. To see him, Uh, leave the game. Head down. With Iraqis five to to win at Coors Field. That's the way you always wanted to be, Um, we we heard what Aaliyah's Diaz did. He had the walk off at the end of the game. Brendan Rodgers also had a homer and Daniel Bard. Did get the win in relief for the Rockies, who now have one Four straight now, as we talked about earlier in the week when they swept the Pittsburgh Pirates All you guys out there that we're hitting the text line were beaten up on the Rockies, saying they beat the Pirates. Just the Pirates. Let's see what they do when the Cardinals come to town well, What do you think about what they did last night? What they did last night was absolutely fantastic. Fantastic, and it started with sends a tele last night on the mountain. Giving them a great start. And then the bullpen held up at the end, and they they found a way to get some runs late. Nolan Coronado didn't have a hell of a game. He didn't have a great game. Um, you know, at the end of the day I I think that sense to tell it got the better part of that. Would you? Would you not agree? No. I'd agree. Speaking of Nolan, would you retire? His number is Iraqi Would you be okay with that? Are you against that? Okay, Here's the question. You have to ask yourself. Is is Nolan Erin Nado? On his way to be in a Hall of Famer. Yes. Okay. How many Hall of famers do the car ride? Iraqis have Well, they have Larry Walker. Okay. Who else? Think that's it, isn't it? That is it. So And ironically, they both played for he. Actually, he played for ST Louis in Colorado as well. In addition to Montreal So I to answer your question. I think that with the amount of time spent in the Rockies organization, I think with the success he had as a member of the Colorado Rockies. I mean, this is a kid that came up through the system. I do think that at some point When cooler heads will prevail. I do see a situation where After Nolan has decided that he's no longer going to be playing baseball. And and then you know whether or not he's going to be a Hall of Famer. Yeah, I do think that his his jersey can get retired by the Rocky, Let's let's take it one step further. When he goes into the hall. What uniform? Is he putting on? Ooh or had, I should say Well, I mean, look, if if if you would retire from baseball in the next two years, let's just put it. Let's just say if he retires from baseball in the next two years he's wearing Iraqis had let's say he plays another eight years, just like he did with the Rockies old with the Cardinals. Let's say he goes on to win a World Series with the Cardinals. Is he wanting to go in as a cardinal at that point? Probably.

"Your arms. Stand up. Just a little. What a great call from Jack Oregon. Who are Jack joining me around? What time cuf 4 35, you know would have made that better, though. You know what he said? He Nolan Arenado walks off. If you just said Nolan, Erin Otto walks off a loser whose hair let me just say this. Okay, Here's here's too classy for that, but I know And Here's where I'm at with with Nolan Arenado, Um I definitely and I think it pointed this out yesterday on the show. I definitely fall into a place where I Pushed some of the blame and pointed some of the blame as to how it all unfurled and and him leaving the Rockies and go into the ST Louis Cardinals. I put some of that on Nolan Arenado. We know that him and bright it had had their issues. Um Everybody likes to point to the organization. Everybody likes to Point to ownership. At the end of the day. If Nolan Arenado wanted to be a Colorado Rocky Nolan Arenado would be a Colorado Rocky. That's just not what happened. So I was excited to see how rocky spans we're going to react to him. And You know, they did do a tribute video to him, which I'm sure was pretty cool. But when Nolan Erin Otto comes up for his first at bats, well, here's what it sounded like A needless to say. That went on for? Mm. How long Kub. I thought it was. I thought it was 45 seconds or so I have it right here. It was 56 seconds, so 56 seconds He steps into the box like he always does. Does his little stance thing that he does..

"Group does a great job covering the Colorado Rockies for the athletic. And Nick. We know that earlier today you were on the zoom call with Nolan. Erin Otto and, uh, I mean, what was your What was your take about how he feels about being back in in Colorado for the first time since this trade You know he didn't. He didn't exactly use the words. But my impression was that he was a little emotional. Um, I thought maybe his voice cracking a little bit here and there. I think there's a lot of feeling Coming back. Um, I you know, he his words were that he gave a lot He gave a lot to this team. And by the time I mean the Rockies and lots of the city, and, uh, you know, it's hard to disagree with that, like he really did. He was their best player for a long time. He's on a Hall of Fame path. Um and then and then on top of it, You know, his exit out wasn't normal. It wasn't just a normal kind of routine trade. You know it left it left like a lot of questions. I think for You know, not not just Not just for fans but also like for his old teammates for him. I think a lot of people are just kind of wondering what it's going to be like, Um You know that now that he's back and I think he's wondering. I think he doesn't exactly know how to feel about it. Well, one thing that we do know is that he's a very talented player. But when you look at the production of McMann Uh, it doesn't feel like we've had a drop off in at least the offensive portion of it. But next let me ask you have we seen a drop off defensively? No, actually defensively, they've done really well between Ryan McMahon and No. One cousin Joshua Fuentes. Uh, They're they're among the better defenders in in the National League at any position. Really, Um, the Rockies have a good defense. It's kind of difficult. German. Sometimes that they This is one of the better defensive internal while In part because in part because they have a good center field during often Gaza, But, um, But, you know, the defensive drop off hasn't been that bad. I mean, you just but again, like you know when you watch the game. Kind of on the regular I mean, we're still talking about. We're talking about a Brooks Robinson level generational defender. You know it or not? Oh, so you're were mean, What we're not seen are the crazy place. We're not seeing, like the crazy tarp catch and the and the blood throws And just like the nuts, the nuttiness that he that he is able to do. We're not seeing that necessarily. And that's okay. Um, you know those those things are sort of extra credit. But the Iraqis are doing really well at their base. Kind of a third base by committee and just, you know, just in routine. Uh, defense. Um The offense, though. If I may say the office has been it a huge drop off. Um, no. If you if you transferred Nolan Arnada statistics this Rockies team he would be I mean, his production is and he's not even at his normal production. It's like three times. Like three times the amount basically. Um as in as in Iraqis hit or even Trevor story, So I mean, it's really the offensive draft has been Not not helpful. Basically this year, Nick, you know we had a chance to catch up with but black on Monday. When the Rockies were kicking off that series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and he talked a little bit about how the fact that they they didn't They didn't think it would be as bad as it is. But they did think that the offensive production was going to be, um, not as good as it has been in years past. Do you point to that as his reason? Number one. Why this? This Rockies team is sitting where it is sitting in the N L West. And why can't this team Play on the road when they play as well as they do at home. Yeah. I mean, it's a really good question. It's not. I mean the home road swing for this team. It's just something that they have. I mean. It's never going to change. It's something they have to live with. Um, every Rockies team every year has dealt with it. Um, this team is just Especially ill suited to to figuring it out there just because I mean like bottom line, and then we can talk about How could they are against fastball? How they chased making balls outside his own too much we can we can break it down. But I mean, the bottom line is they're just not very good offensively. I mean, they're just not. There's not enough talent on this roster offensively. And you know, it's not just the Nolan drop off. It really took it. Really, You know, really like started after 2019, but You know, they you know they went from You know, they went from DJ Mayhew's Daniel Murphy, and he did not perform well and then how they went from Daniel Murphy, too. DJ Chrome. They were hoping for a big bomb in free agency. He's not okay. But it's just sort of really all around all around their lineup. It's just not. It's not a great lineup. Um, I mean, there are just There are holes all the way through their roster. Offensively, they don't have enough left handers. They don't they have Nobody You can Who can play, catch your position and hit the ball. Um It's just like kind of up and down, and when you piece it all together like that's when we see That's when we see them crazy swings When you go from home to road, you know, the key to hitting for Iraqis team is you just You just have to be more disciplined than any other team. When you're hitting on the road, you have to be able to hit the fastball. And you have to make the adjustment to recognizing what a breaking ball looks like. When you leave high elevation, and they're just because they're just sort of like Not capable of those things on a basic level very well then, and it just compounds itself when they go on the road, So I mean, there's just I mean, we're really talking about a rebuilding team..

"Excuse me. Hmm? Oh, all right. Okay, let's let's let's see what we had scheduled to do. Your, uh, By the way, our poll question for today. Um Is there more Nolan Arenado sound what we heard already CUF or was that pretty much what we got? That was that was the most interesting one. He also, uh, we didn't have. We don't have this bike, but he also talked about how we went out to dinner. Last night with Trevor story and a couple of other players. Of course he did, because he wanted to get kind of the handshakes and everything like that, out of the way, so they're not having to do it before the game today. Okay? And and, of course, you know, the Cardinals are one of the teams that needs, uh Ball out of control shortstop So I'm sure he's a little bit of that. Yeah, we just went out. We just went out to you know, we just went out to Just get dinner right? There was no recruiting. Their general manager of the Cardinals made right owner and By the way, I totally anticipate, you know. The travel story be gone, You know, shortly after the All Star game Shortly. Yeah. Listen, I'm totally anticipate that I I think that I know you do, too. I think Rocky spans have been trying to Push the blame on the Rockies organization on on the Mumford's, but you know if you really want to call it what it is He wanted out. He demanded to be out. And you know, you should look at the player just as much Are we talking about Travis story talking about Nolan Arenado talking about? Don't know. Um, our poll question, by the way, is, uh How you think Rocky's fans will react to Nolan's returned to Colorado. Cheer Boo or doing nothing. I will say this When you look at the the majority of the jerseys that rocky spans are are wearing to the game. You see, most of them are Charlie Blackmon or Nolan Arenado? Yes. You have some Trevor story in there. And, yes, you still have tied Helton and Larry Walker and I even saw On Monday, a Dante Bichette, Jersey. What are the current poll results? CUF. All right. What do you think is winning right now? Um, do nothing That is in second. In a landslide right now, cheer is winning at 60.8%. Do. Nothing is in second at 21.6%. And in last is boo at 17.6%. You can go vote it at K O a Colorado on Twitter. Yeah, I'll never forget. I'll never forget the statement that, uh, that, uh Erin Otto made A few years ago and saying that he was not going to be Todd Helton and just stay here in Colorado and just You know the Iraqi favor, you know he wanted to win. I was like, Wow. It's like the word Wow, that was like, Hey, and I'm like, Wow, it's coming. Wow, if we don't win, I want out, right? I mean, but it almost sounds like you know. It almost made it sound like Todd didn't want to win. You know, I'm saying I was like, Wow, that was That was harsh. You just basically basically said that, you know. I was just a good company, man, and you're not going to be that guy. You want to pursue winning? Well, then why time the contract that you did. And by the way, Todd Hilton played in the only World Series that the Iraqis have participated in So are you saying that he didn't he? You know he didn't want to win. It almost made it sound like that He was Calling Todd Helping the loser for staying here all that time, and there was a chance for Todd Helton to be traded. Years back, and he chose to stay here. I think he wanted to stay here and you know, I guess Maybe that's what he was referring to, But, yeah, I mean, we have them tonight and we'll see. We'll see what's going down tonight. I don't think that when you look at a season like this one, you could say that you can be upset with a guy like Nolan or not. I mean, Ryan McMahon is just balling out of control. So why would you be mad at a guy who's given you similar production with Far less, uh, money attributed to his payroll. I'm not. I'm not upset. I'm not upset that Nolan Arenado is gone right now. Now, if if he goes and you know He's playing like DJ LeMay, you And when in batting titles and helping teams get to the postseason because of his his bat in his fielding, That's something different. DJ LeMay, you hurts. Right now. This doesn't hurt Todd Helton. I mean, uh, not and are not. Oh, doesn't hurt. Well, I will say this. Not right now. Do you agree with that? It's the only sport where uh, an athlete is singled out. When they come up to bat where you have the ability to.

"At curse Field from now on. Hey, hey, how about that? How about this, Joe Joe? Not only do they play only at courts field, they have to play day games well, and yet because they have done a plethora of day games as of late, and Jack talked about that at the at the end of today, but Very nice. A sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates at course field Now it is, uh, Now it's going to get interesting because the red birds come to town. And that means, uh, that guy over there at third base is going to look extremely familiar Iraqis fans. Of course I'm talking about Nolan Arenado. Yeah, that's going to be fun to see. I mean, just think about all the well wishes and the warm cheers and and how everybody is going to be there to welcome Nolan back to to the smiling come. Fine. What are you talking about? Homes? Uh, you know what I'm talking about, You know, that's not going to be any of that when it happens, And I think that You know the boo birds be out there early and often when he shows up, But you know what, man? It's It's, uh, it's what's to be expected. When you lose a superstar athlete and he comes back to town. I don't think anybody ever tears for the the superstar athlete when he comes back to town after he pushes his way out of the organization. I don't I don't think nobody forgives it. No, I think you just said it the right way pushes his way. Out of the organization, which is exactly what he did. I was reading a story today. On what teams should be considered the front runner if the Rockies decided to move Trevor story and that top team by the way. Is the ST Louis Cardinals. And they said the one reason why they don't feel it may happen is because the optics would be horrible. Horrible that you traded away two superstars. To that same team, and you can go back to when? When, you know, Look, Matt Holliday went to the went to ST Louis. Larry Walker went to ST Louis. I mean, it was just weird. You know what I'm saying? Well, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Tell you the truth. Uh, whoever gives you the most is where you should trade these guys, too, and that there's no there's no. There's no work around. When you lose a great player. You lose a great player. It's tougher when it's in your division. But even in your their own division, if that team gives you back some healthy prospects and gives you a way to get better immediately, and for the long term Just got to do what you gotta do. I mean, it's just It's just, you know, I'm the optics of it doesn't look as bad to to a guy like me as maybe it does to some other people. But when a guy says, you know, You know, and we haven't heard this. We haven't heard Trevor stories say that he's not going to resign with the Rockies. We haven't heard of the Rockies putting forward the proper contract, either. Um, but from all accounts, it feels like he's gone and when he's gone Um, maybe he's gone. Well, it doesn't matter where he goes. Is that a relieves his as a free agent, and you get nothing for, um, so that's the that's the other thing and and you know. In reading this piece that I read today, which was which was a really, really good piece that I that I read on ESPN. Teams that are actually that any team that's in the first place position. That's one position that they've got their hands on already, like their shortstop. Their shortstop is that one position that is already doing is already doing extremely well. And so I in a lot of cases, that is what's happening now, Look, ST. Louis isn't tearing the cover off the ball right now. And matter of fact, you made a great A great observation when we read course field on Monday, and that is that Ryan McMahon, who has been playing second base, some outfield, some third base for the Rockies. He's having as good of, if not better of a season right now that Nolan Erin Otto is over there in ST Louis. Yeah, bro. I mean, what are we talking about Me? We're talking about this loss of superstar status. I mean, the guy is an excellent fielder. We know he's a Gold glove winner. Every single year when we talk about Nolan, but when you just look at the offensive production, Ron McMahon is right there. I think Nolan has 15 home runs and and McMahon. Has 16. I mean, you look at the batting average there right there around the same R B. I's are around around the same. It's just Yeah, I think I think I think, uh, Ryan Mack, it may have even He he may have. More R b, I s and Nolan So I mean, I know you're going to do your homework and look real quick. But when you when you look at when you look at the numbers by themselves, man, it doesn't feel like we got You know, like we got taken to the bank because Austin Gamber came back and he's our and he's a He's a steady contributor in our lineup, and he's you know, minus the first couple of three games that he pitch, he's been solid. And I do love our textures. And by the way, if you text the show, and a lot of you do every single day we very much appreciate it. 5669. No. If you want to text the show, this is from the 7 to 92 87. Guys don't get excited. It was just the pirates. Let's see what happens this weekend. OK? Excited about what? What are we saying? Wait a minute. I didn't hear not one of us who said that The Rockies are ready. Uh, to contend to win the World Series, but I'm glad we're certainly not in the same situation as the Arizona Diamondbacks. And I mean my goodness. I was listening to the game the day with Jack and he was talking about the the losses suffered by the the Diamondbacks, and I just could not believe The amount of losses that's been piled up over such a short period of time..

"Touched the ball before it went out, Coach. So some guys though, pretend they got him to keep it to yourself about that kid right in the back of the head and say, What do you do it? You're kidding me. You go. Sit down. Get out of here. Team. Do you already said Code Red Code red time? By the way, we want to make 12 I don't care to make Giants fan sick. The max months he get out. Get it out of the ocean Bobblehead night is tonight. How is it? And to Muncie, his own image. Neyts right there with Dale Murphy, Ron say, you know the greatest giant killers last night, they gold man. Yeah, they said Goldsman. It was Goldman, Erin Otto and Renato. But Monty's got 10 home runs against the Giants just since the start of last year. He's got six of his 16 home runs this year are against the Giants. I mean, this guys like this guys like Willie Mack when he when when he's going to get the Giants. It's amazing. And, yes, someone in the Giants organization wrong him in any way, shape or form seriously. Do we have anything that we could go back? His former clubs understands. And then and then This guy also just puts the perfect swing 96 Mile an hour fastball last night, and it's supposed to be up and in and it's just had so much run to it that it ran across the plate and he hits it out. I mean, the guy's got the guy's got six home runs in in 24 at bats. Against the Giants this year. I mean, that's That's ridiculous. At what point do you start being careful with him? I mean, not that you're not, but not necessarily pitch around him. But at what point do you look at the numbers and you just look at him and go? Would be best if we just don't fool with this. Hit him away, man. I've seen enough of Muncie in We know he yanks that pitch. The tough thing about him is he makes you pitch to him like he he would actually actually swung in, like two or three balls out of the zone Last night. At least I was like, Whoa. That doesn't happen often. I didn't happen against a giant seemingly it probably does, but he makes you pitch to. It's just so damn patients like God Dang it swing at that pitch. I'd also like to nominate Wil Myers as a giant killer. Absolutely, especially at Oracle. I mean, he's like the King Barkley. He's in that second tier. Yeah, I've seen at the Gotham Club. Probably at Oracle is it's Goldschmidt. Coronado in Muncie. Current players will Smith is Jenny. Uh, Will Smith Will Smith on the break will mind He didn't block of those two balls that would have helped the Giants won, I would have got through Wil Myers. He's Chester Nash below those three guys. But Muncie was was Goldschmidt. A I mean, he was a giant dominates the more of a Let's come killer. Yeah, Yeah, he was. He would repeatedly just stab Tim Lincecum. I was like, dude, What do you do in your rookie? You just crushing this guy. It was amazing. That's back When Lynn Skin was still pretty Linthicum and he they didn't care Whatever. Yank this thing. I'm not gonna take a step and just whack. God, he would just Yeah, they were allowed to. They were guys freaking Ted Williams a were bad. Oh, they were just like folds. Just like you heard that over to Alameda. Yeah, shot. I thought the other day because John had a home run call ways and that's going all the way to Fremont or someone, Uh, We're going to test that theory when the Cardinals actually come to because they didn't come last year, but when they come to town this year, uh, because they have both of them on the same team. Oh, God. Oh, God. We'll see how that goes, You know, Let's hope they don't trade for Wil.

"My story is probably going to be in the Turner category of just costing too much. Don't you think? Even though these players are rentals now, like doesn't Yeah, that's The problem is the the Rockies. He mentioned the Erin Otto cost. Now They've parted ways with their GM who made there and I don't deal. So you know, the reality is also making a fortune. He was, but they got nothing back and But this story is going to be somebody who at the deadline because he's a free agent. He's going to be a sought after bat. And the other problem like I like Trevor Story. I always though I'm reluctant to give up a lot of assets for a guy who's playing 81 games. In course, I know I like to Daniel Bahr thought they could use another writing, probably out of that pen and I do like that thought. But yes, there's risk with guys like that. There always is. When they leave, Although Erin Otto still raking pretty much, or at least he was, I mean, I don't know. The last couple weeks, maybe haven't watched this closely. But Erin Otto was raking for a while, So maybe, but he's kind of maybe he's just special. He is the outlier. They all tend to You know, the numbers are never probably have the same. Exactly. That's the problem. You think you're acquiring or in Europe, even if you try and separate it and say, Okay, he is not a 30 home run 35 home run to hit shortstop. Once we were moving from cores, but the Rockies view him as a 35 home runs short stuff, and they're selling him to this. Everybody who's trying to trade for him exactly. We'll go have a few more of your calls Cubs in sacks there is Oh, stuff. If you want to talk about it, are you upset? Do you not care that he admitted to cap and hoodie told him today is not vaccinated And he's one of the guys that you know the Cubs are going to be short of getting that 85% threshold that would get them some clearance. And relax the rules a little. "Michelle Small men from one of one ESPN and ST Louis is joining us to talk about on the Goodyear hotline. No. One air nado, who has joined now in a trade the ST Louis Cardinals, the Rockies are sending a Renato and $50 million, according reports to ST Louis for a host of players I haven't actually seen. The final report is to who Michelle. I assume I mean, there's probably they're very few places in America, where they care more about their local team than they do in ST Louis. So his ST Louis excited to get one of the top 5 to 10 talents in the league on the team next year. I think you nailed it when you said that. This is one of the rare places in the country where you can talk baseball 24 73, 65 and people care as much as they do, And I think a text I got this morning from a cardinal fan really describes the way people here are feeling somebody texted me this morning and said, I woke up. I went to ESPN dot com because I needed to make sure that I wasn't dreaming that this was actually real. And in fact, it is. But it was weird here in ST Louis. For a while. Fans were almost responded with the state of the team. They thought that the Cardinals were gonna remain inactive this entire off season. In the matter of 24 hours, the team goes out. They bring back Adam Wainwright. He was the best pitcher on the team last season. And is it obviously an icon and a legacy player here in San Luis, and they get the white whale. The player that favorite Cardinal fans have been lusting after for many years, and Nolan Aaron Auto, and as you mentioned, the Rockies are kicking in $50 million, and the Cardinals didn't have to give up any of their top five prospect. It's crazy. It's almost too good to be true. San Diego's on the rise. Atlanta's on the rise, The Mets are on the rise. The Dodgers of the defending champs. What is this move do for ST Louis? What in terms of the entail hierarchy where they had right now? That's a great question. And you're right as this offseason has continued on Cardinal fans were sitting by watching the Padres making love. Oh, they got you. Jarvis must be nice. All the mess. They're going to nab Francisco and door that must be nice. And even though the Cardinals had been inactive, they still had ah, pretty clear path to winning the NL Central. They run a post season last year. They were getting players back from injury, and it seemed like Could contend for the division. But you go ahead and you add someone like millenarian auto to this team. Ah, guy who clearly is going to help you defensively. He's an eight time Gold Glove winner. He's a five time all star. You know what he can do From the offense standpoint, that's your shares of your offense even more, and then we look at it. From an offensive standpoint, you're looking at potentially Dylan Carlson, who's their up and coming superstar hitting in the two hole, Paul Goldschmidt and then No. One Erin Otto. You're looking at a team that not only can clearly win the division, but definitely King content for a World Series. It seems that they're not a goddess, where she made it clear that he wanted out of Colorado. What is the divide in baseball right now between the teams that are looking to spend big and contend, and then everybody else it looks like they're willing to give up anybody and everybody. That's interesting because I think no one ever not a look at a situation where he signed that deal with Colorado, and it's clearly a place he wanted to stay. But then the team didn't build around him. And this is someone that once Too. When he's made that very clear. The situation almost has shades of the Shawn Watson in it, where he signs the deal, and then things kind of crumble around him. And there was a lot of tension between he and the Rockies front office there, general manager Just write it, but Hold out into the public, and he made it clear if I'm not going to win here. I want to win somewhere else, and ah lot of teams, especially coming off the pandemic season. Don't have the capital. You acquire a player and a contract like millionaire in auto, and that's something that the Cardinals have gone back and forth on for many years. They had wanted a Renato even before he signed that contract, But I think as the tension continue to go on the asking price evolved over time, and it seems like the cardinal to our mid market team and who are missing that gate revenue that they heavily rely on after a pandemic season. Real life the past year and that this is potentially a deal that could pull off and they went for it. So while there are teams who can't spend big, like the Met or the Dodgers, I think there are other teams like the Padres and the Cardinals that trust their core, and they see a specific opportunity and they're going to go forward as well. Obama Cardinals fan. I'm over the moon with this transaction, But I do have to ask. What's the concern level regarding the fact that Aaron Nado before time Silver slugger is entering his age 30 season and has had numbers propped up by playing it course field. He's not gonna have the luxury of 81 games at altitude anymore. I think if any other fan base were to have that question posed at them, they might be concerned. But the Cardinals have had experience with with this before Larry Walker came from Colorado seemingly did well in ST Louis, Saving with Matt Holliday. We were concerned about the numbers coming out, of course, field in the altitude even pretty well here in San Llosa's well became one of the major leaders of this team, a cornerstone of this team and won a World Series here. "Reader in for Mike Rice. And I guess the Broncos air contemplating. We all are. How do you slow down Patrica homes? Well, it's Marty. That's the million dollar question in the NFL right now. The chief's offenses rolling. They come in with a five in one record and the Broncos? No, not only this is a big division game, but they have to figure out how way too slow. Patrick Mahomes down, and Bradley Chub says his defense needs to be up for the challenge is the best paralegal moment. Right now, you know he's dynamic around, passing everything that amazing ball around play hard for each other. They are dreams were And so when I look into team and living at home, I feel like he's the he's the catalyst that and my job is to be said it will be innocents in Radley shot if he could get a couple secs that would certainly pave way for the Broncos Broncos. Good did get some good news on the injury front this week. Noah fan put in a full practice yesterday. He should be good to go for Sunday. However, Dalton Risner did not practice yesterday. So the Broncos will definitely need to protect Drew Lakas well against what is a good defense that's overlooked in Kansas City. Our coverage on Sunday at the Broncos in chief's gets underway at eight kickoff it to 25 from in power field at my Ojai. Thursday night Football. Last night, the Eagles beat the Giants 22 21. They overcame a 21 to 14th quarter deficit to do so. Philadelphia the leader in the clubhouse If you're going to call it that at the NFC East to foreign one, a losing record, and they are leading the division within weeks, seven pretty deep into the season here. One schedule change this weekend in the NFL. The Raiders and Buccaneers were supposed to play Sunday night. That game has been bumped back to the afternoon because the entire Raiders offensive line is in quarantine right now, so they're league wanted to make sure they had a game. So Seattle and Arizona will now be the Sunday Night football game this weekend, moving on the Major League Baseball World Series Game three tonight, Dodgers and Ray's tied at one game apiece. So this is a pivotal game three tonight, Walker Buehler gets the ball for the Dodgers. He's been very good IARA under two in the postseason. Charlie Morton gets the ball for Tampa Bay, a Game seven winner against the Astros and his the area's under two as well. So if you were a betting man might want to think about the under tonight. Dodgers in Tampa Bay Game three of the World Series tonight, Gold Glove finalists announced yesterday and Major League Baseball to nobody's surprise No. One Erin Otto of Finals that third base Charlie Blackmon, a finalist for the first time in right field. "OK, No one there or not, I was going to beat us. At some point. We might as well have it happen now. I don't think that's how you manage in the late innings. I don't think you say, Well, we've got Nolan a Renato out twice. He's going to get us in some point tonight, so I'd rather have it with no one on base is opposed to the eighth or ninth inning. When you could bring in Tony Watson then and there be runners on base. Erin was something like six for 12 in his career against Tony Watson, who, by the way in the final year of his contract has yet to prove That he is fully healthy, that he's ready to go that he's the same All Star caliber pitcher that he was in the prime of his career. Tony Watson's getting up there. I think he's 30 for 35 years old. Right now. The velocity is not quite where it was. The changeup hasn't been a sharp and so to throw him in there against a Renato. Why not see if you could get Sean Anderson? Why not see if you get Rico? Garcia and I know the three batter minimum. Is probably the reason as Gabe Catherine talked about there were left. He's following him. And if you bring in Sean Anderson, he allows a hit to Aaron Otto. Then you're dealing with Daniel Murphy. And then he got right on left. And then you're dealing with Ryan McMahon. So maybe it was the right decision to just let Nolan Renato go out there and club a solo shot, but at the same time It just kind of the admittance that Nolan Aaron Auto is going to get you at some point. Let's think of a different strategy than just throwing fastballs today, Renato and allowing him to hit them out because he's done that 31 times in his career against the San Francisco Giants. You look at Erin Otto's career numbers, and it looks like an All Star caliber full season. And he's done this against the San Francisco Giants is something like 130 games, 30 home runs 100 ribbies extra base hits. He's got more than 60 in his career against the Giants. It just never ends. The guy came into the serious hitting 2 26 with no home runs on the season, the Rockies were still seven into regardless and then he gets hot. I mean, what's he going to do today? Give Tyler Anderson, his former teammate. He knows him. Well, one home runner, too, Because that's the question. We have to start asking ourselves with Nolan Granado anyway. The jobs go to the eighth and ninth innings. They bring in Tyler Rogers, and I appreciate Gabe Kapler's faith in Tyler Rogers. His commitment to Tyler Rogers is a high leverage reliever because the last time I hosted this show It was a disaster. That was the night after Tyler Rogers had given up all of those 10th inning runs in extra innings against the San Diego Padres in the game that gave Catherine went to the mound twice. Tyler Rogers had to come back out. You know the rule, Rico Garcia came in from the bullpen. Rico Garcia had to go back to the bullpen. At that point, the Giants had already lost the game. So it didn't even make a difference because the greater issue for Gabe Kapper was leaving Tyler Rogers in too long. Anyway. The Giants are still thinking that Tyler Rogers could be a high leverage reliever. And, of course, the first batter he faces gets a softly hit single pass. Brandon Crawford. So you're thinking course Field One run game lead off hitter gets on. Oh, This is not gonna end well for the Giants because it never does. And then Roger settles in Roger's Got a strike. Albany Needy got the soft contact that he needed. And I was really impressed with the Giants commitment to him forthe hold of the season for Tyler Rogers there in Colorado, and then they go to Trevor Gott. In the ninth inning and got picked up save number three. He did allow a two out walk, but the fastballs 95 96 right now, and he is not afraid to throw it up in the strike zone. And you love to see that kind of fearlessness from Tyler got Trevor got because this is a guy who was defeated by the Washington nationals two years ago because they just didn't think he could handle prime time. They didn't think he could pitch with the bright lights on a big stage in the sixth or seventh inning, let alone the ninth inning. So that speaks the maturation of Trevor got the confidence that the Giants have In him in the ninth inning, and I thought it was interesting because after the game Trevor got now three for three and save situations. You've clearly got the guy who is going to be your closer for the rest The 2020 season We ask Gabe Cather beat reporters Were there on a zoom call is Trevor got your closer and here's what he had to say. Yeah, I think we have several options in high leverage. Options where you know, the most important spots will come up in the game on. I think we're gonna stay committed Tio using them where they match up past. There may come a time. I'll continue to say this where it just becomes absolutely clear. That one is the best for the 9th 1 is best for the eighth and one is about best from seven. I don't think we're there yet. You don't you don't have those high leverage options because we would have seen them by now. Where are they? I've been covering this team since spring training. I've been covering this team for four years. I don't know who these highly ever charms that gave capper. Speaking of they're better equipped to take down the ninth inning. What is the harm in saying that Trevor got is the closer. The guy wants to be the closer. He loves the ninth inning. He's done it three times in a row. Who is going to replace him? I get that this staff is going to be managed in an unconventional way. I get that If you've got the 345 hitters coming up in the eighth inning of a two run game, you would probably rather see Trevor God. In that situation than having Trevor got faced the 78 and nine hitters. But what is the harm in giving the kid that confidence that he could go out and do the job and do the job efficiently and effectively for the rest of the season? Is it Are you worried about? Trevor got struggling and then needing to look at different options in the ninth inning because who are those options? I don't think that Sean Anderson is there yet because the Giants have used him a few times when they've been losing. They've used him in games where they've wanted to keep it close as opposed to games. Where there ahead and granite When you're 16 17 you're obviously not a head a whole lot. You don't have that luxury. This is not a team that's blowing games late right now. But Tony Watson is not the ninth inning answer. We know that Tyler Rogers is too much. Of a question mark in terms of the soft contact to be the ninth inning guy. In my opinion, there's too much quirkiness with Tyler Rogers. There's too much OK, a few softly hit ground balls could get through, whereas you don't get that with a 96 mile in our guy with a wipeout curveball like Trevor Gott. And so the Giants just need to realize that stick with him and named him the closer. I know that gave Catherine does not want to abide by tradition. That's not what he's about. His San Francisco Giants tenure is not going to be defined by that. We know because he refuses to name his starting pitcher until the day before, even though that I can tell you, Jeff, so margins pitching Friday. Johnny Cueto is pitching Saturday and Kevin Gausman's pitching Sunday the Giants or TBA, TBA and tbe a right now. And so their reluctance to name rolls is just I guess it's frustrating for me from a traditional standpoint. But if the players were happy, if trouble God's fine just coming in the ninth inning and assuming that it's his role until it's not, I guess that works got a lot more to talk about. The Giants outfield experience Plus roster cuts are coming within the next 3 to 4 hours. The Giants are gonna have to cut two players from this team. As the roster goes from 30 to 28. I'll talk about that coming up shortly carry Crowley filling in for Adam Copeland here on the leadoff spot can be our can be RFM San Francisco The sports leader, 10456 80 The.
