Trump confirms another White House staffer tested positive for COVID-19

"There had been rumblings this morning that someone at the White House had tested positive for corona virus and the chief of staff and the press secretary refused to answer that question from reporters. Today but then the president confirmed that yes, a staffer has tested positive and he said staffers but then Kaley mcenaney was seated there in the briefing room she weighed in and said, it was one staffer who tested positive last night at the event I'm assuming that means the president's townhall. He did that was the only event on his schedule in Philadelphia last night. But they didn't offer any more clarity than that. They keep saying they want to protect people's personal information to say the person's name. But the question is, of course, who were they around? What was their interactions with people? They did say they did not interact with the president or with the press, but Aaron then is really all the clarity we've got right now. But it does go to show someone else's tested positive as the White House and the trump campaign has been holding his events with very few mask and very little social distancing as well.

Trump Again Scorns Science on Masks and Vaccines

"Out front tonight the breaking news president trump taking on his CDC director calling him confused and mistaken to issue central to stopping the spread of the virus masks and vaccines. Let's start with this trump. After Dr Robert Redfield head of the CDC said it would be up to eight year before a vaccine is available to the general public. I think he made a mistake when he said that it's just incorrect information. And I called him. And he didn't tell me that and I, think you've got the message maybe confused I saw the statement I called him I said, what did you mean by that? And I think he just made a mistake. To Call, you said that you told him that he made mistakes. What was his response? I said what happened and I got the impression that he didn't realize he said what he might have said I didn't see him say. Okay. Well, let's let you hear him say at here is Dr Redfield today under oath. I think there will be. Vaccine that initially be available sometime between November and December but very limited supply and we'll have to be prioritized if you're asking me, when is it going to be generally available to the American? Public? So we can begin to take advantage of vaccine to get back to our regular life I think we're probably looking at third. Late? Second Quarter? Third Quarter Twenty twenty. One Okay. That is sobering. Late second quarter third quarter. That's the end of the summer of the fall of next year is a year away and it is long after Election Day twenty twenty. That was his honest clear scientific assessment president didn't like it, and then the present continued to suggest that Dr Redfield got it wrong today when he said this. We have clear scientific evidence they work. And they are best defense. I might even go so far as to say that this facemask is more guaranteed to protect me against Ovid. Then when I take a co- vaccine. The irony that the President United States he keeps saying he wants vaccine by Election Day to help him actually has one in his hands and refuses to have his own supporters where I'm at his rallies. That is pretty incredible. But here's the president again publicly rebuking his CDC director. I called him about that. Those were the two things I discussed with him and I believe that if you ask him, he would. Probably. Say that he didn't understand the question because I said to my in the questions, the one question which we covered in the mass. When I called up. Robert Today I said to him what's with the mask? I think I answered that question incorrectly I think maybe misunderstood. That's absurd that he didn't misunderstand and it was very clear. What he said wasn't confused and by the way it's not just that he said it today right held it up and said that about the vaccines and that it's the most effective thing we have he's actually repeatedly said the same thing, the mass work it's not even the first time that he is compared their effectiveness to that of vaccines here he is in July so. We're not powerless. We don't have to wait for a vaccine although I think we're going to be successful. Sooner. Than many people think we have the most powerful weapon. And our hands right now I mean it's it's an enormously powerful weapon. It's just a simple. Flimsy Mask. Consistency well, the president's words are not things. The CDC director can ignore tonight right and just hope they go away. They are a direct assault on him and they are a direct assault on the widely proven science. Trump's HHS spokesperson. Michael Caputo is actually now in a leave of absence for the kind of talk that the president put out there. So cavalierly today trump though of course isn't going anywhere. It's not a little guy down the totem pole caputo and tonight the CDC director has been forced. To respond releasing a statement moments ago, saying quote I one hundred percent believe in the importance of vaccines and the importance in particular of Covid nineteen vaccine. A covid nineteen vaccine is the thing that will get Americans back to normal everyday life. The best defense we currently have against this virus, the important mitigation effects of wearing a mask, washing your hands, social distancing, and being careful about

The protester holding the phone identifies himself as a member of La's African town coalition a group not nationally known before he set out, he took to facebook I've been depressed, but this right here lightens my heart right because you know share department has murdered too many of our brothers and sisters matter of fact, law enforcement throughout the country has murdered too many of our brothers and says, this is the start of retribution. Then I think this is a very good. Starr's office the Mayor of Los Angeles. Reacting Strongly to his palace comments there's no place in civilized. Society for anybody to draw arm to shoot our law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line and I won't ever let a couple of voices that not only are uncalled for but it's important to say something like that both president trump and democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden weighing in on the shooting trump express his outrage to supporters in Nevada on Sunday you. So video of that animal that went up to the car did everybody see that There's animal this animal goes up to the car to unsuspecting fine people there was fine people. I mean they're in very grave condition as you know, Biden responded with this statement acts of lawlessness and violence directed against police officers are unacceptable outrageous and entirely counterproductive to the pursuit of greater peace and justice in America as are the actions of those who cheer such attacks on those who perpetrate these crimes must be brought to justice and if convicted face the full brunt of the law. And we spoke to a member of the community here who's lived here his whole life and he said as as a black business owner here he says, he absolutely is disgusted with hearing people say they hope that the deputies die he says absolutely no in this community truly believes that and they are praying for the deputies as for what is happening. But they are still in a major manhunt scenario looking for the person responsible for shooting these two deputies have they have just now up to the reward from one hundred, thousand to one, hundred, seventy, five, thousand to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. Fauci disagrees with Trump on coronavirus

"The United States has not rounded the corner that is from Dr Anthony Fauci. The Nation's top infectious disease expert delivering a blunt specifically worded rebuttal to the president to, of course, Said said the other day that the US is rounding the corner on the pandemic. I'm sorry but I have to disagree with that because if you look at the thing that you just mentioned the Statistics Andrea. The. Disturbing. Disturbing. The US Steph told you shy of two hundred, thousand number of new cases hovering around forty, thousand, a day and an influential model. At the White House sites all the time predicts the death toll will more than double by the end of the year. Four hundred thousand people dead by the end of December, and yet trump's behavior continues to scorn mask-wearing or social distancing his rally yesterday you see it three thousand supporters more than that. Actually packing an airport hangar in Michigan without masks without social distancing. And and you might say why why are they doing that? It is clear. They are following the leader the person that they are there to support. They are following the president just listen to them and then listen to the president. Care for it. It's that simple. I don't see it for myself. I am young and likable are year are not young. People are very strong. It gets this horrible disease. Temperature taken already, and I'm not saying not necessarily here. Everybody's been tested and I've been tested a hard time understanding people when they. So that's why I don't wear. You can hear me right now I can hear you you're going to have to take. You can take it off your your health how many your wet Well if you don't take it off your very muffled. Those trump supporters Jim Acosta speaking to them getting those very powerful Soundbites Jeremy Diamond is out front and Jeremy You know very strong words from Dr Voucher tonight specifically using the words rounding the corner. No, we're not right. Exact words the president used to rebut his claim. Yeah, no questionnaire in Doctor FAUCI typically tries to avoid directly contradicting the president's or directly confronting and putting himself in opposition to the president, and it tends to happen quite a bit simply by the fact that the president often downplayed the threat of this virus in Dr, Fauci is stating the facts, but it is notable to see dumpster here directly contradicting the president saying, I have to disagree with him on that and he does because ultimately Dr Foudy does rely on. The facts you relies on the science and the facts and the science show that the president by any metric you consider is wrong when he says that the United States is rounding the corner on this and of course, we started this week Erin with the revelation that the president had intentionally misled the American public about the deadliness of virus. He said that he likes to downplay it, and what's remarkable is that we are finishing this week with the president continuing to do. Exactly that because the president is saying that we around the corner, he is saying that the numbers of corona virus cases are plummeting. When in fact we know that we are at a plateau of nearly forty thousand cases nearly a thousand deaths per day and Dr found she is warning about a potentially difficult fall and winter, and of course, it's also remarkable when you see this rally that the president is holding three thousand more than three thousand people huddled together very few. Of them wearing masks and obviously it's coming from the fact that the president in his rhetoric has really downplayed those things. Yes he has acknowledged in in recent weeks. That mask wearing is important. He is called a patriotic, but he is still not modeling that public health behavior, and of course, for months on end, the president downplayed some of those significant public health safety measures and as you just showed in that video, the president's words. So often being mimicked by his own supporters. Jeremy Thank you very much earlier. We spoke to David Plyler these local Republican official in North Carolina and he spoke out this week urging president trump to wear a mask during his rally in that state the state by the way I wanna make it clear has a mask mandate. So we asked him why why does he feel the president should wear a mask and here's what he said. The president is a citizen of the United, States Nettie wants North Carolina. is asked to voluntarily do that not is a matter of health alone. But in the leaders situation, it allows the leader to be seen by people he or she represents and they generally hopefully would follow suit as an elected official. I've been asked to look out for the safety and health of our community, and that's exactly what I was doing. So. Yeah. Know that's just the reality right? That's how it should be but this has become political and plyler happens to be Republican. So he got some feedback on his comment about the president. Here's what he told us about. Well I got backlash from everybody they didn't call it say I'm a Republican or Democrat. I hadn't felt on for south. Carolina. Who taught me a cuss words? A sailor has never heard before. We also ask piler why he felt the need to speak out right? Why? Why did he do it? He could have just been quiet and just rolled his eyes and been angry about it but he didn't he spoke out and he said that mash to be worn, the president should wear one. Why do you do that? It's something we have to do. No chores. And this is not the first time that plague of this time has hit this country nor will it be the last I'm sorry to say in we've had plagued across the United States. We've had things in Europe. We've had him an England China just goes around the world I just hope we can get out of this. So. reasonable. So calm collected. I want to go now to Dr Jonathan Reiner Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at George Washington University Hospital who else would advise the white? House. Medical team under President George. W.. Bush. So you heard Dave plyler right I mean it just just just so reasonable. So clear. And and he wants the president's followers to to wear masks wants the president to wear masks you heard them. They they they scorn it. They disdain it. It comes from the top. Do you think it's possible to pandemic would be a lot less worse if the president had from day one said where mask. I think if the president had said from day one everyone is wearing a mask. We'd have got forty five thousand deaths in this country and I say that because that's extrapolating German experience they've had a middle of the road haven't been the best. They haven't been the worst they been okay in their pandemic response. And they've had about ten thousand deaths. We have four times the population of Germany. We'd have about forty, five, thousand deaths in this country. So about one hundred, fifty, thousand people would be alive if you WANNA think about why we still have forty thousand cases day and a thousand deaths today in this country is because. We're still talking about masks. It's so basic. It just seems so nefarious now that we've heard the president. Really articulately express how dangerous this virus was on February seven. He knew the route he knew he knew how lethal the virus was. He knew that this was ACM dramatic people. He understood yet he decided not to protect the people. It was a conscious decision not to protect the people even now even today. Do you think his supporters would go and be unmasked. If they knew what he knew you think Herman Cain would have gone to Tulsa. Sit there shoulder shoulder without a mask knowing what the president knew. So so you know you Dr. Fouled. She the president said that we were rounding the corner the latest in his many salvoes sang right it's going away. But that's what you just said. Doctor felt she came out today and we're not rounding the corner, right? I mean he didn't. He didn't talk around it or generally obliquely rebutted he rebutted it using word for word because he felt it was important and then he went on to say this. When you're in the middle of a pin damage and you're trying hard to address all the appropriate issues, it is truly a waste of time. The bunk nonsense but unfortunately, we had to do that. Frustration is coming through in a way I haven't seen it before. I admire the man. So much I'm he is a brilliant scientist who's devoted his life to protecting America from all kinds of horrible pathogens. And he still added and he he he he does not get discouraged. Look. It is a waste of time for him to have to deal with some this nonsense, but it's necessary. He has to debunk we rely on him. If only the the White House brought him out to these press events and had an let the press on Moss as can questions wouldn't that be refreshing? I'm grateful for him everyday

And good evening to you all I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight caught on tape the president in his own words tonight revealing you knew a lot more about the deadly pandemic back in. February. Trump demands reporter takes off his mask at press conference

"Take it off the president of the United States telling a reported to take off his mask to ask a question. Then moments later applauding another reporter for not wearing one those exchanges part of a rambling nearly fifty minute press conference a press conference that was really more political rally a political rally in disguise or maybe not. so much of a disguise filled with wildly inaccurate statements including this one about the handling of the pandemic. We are. An absolute leader in every way. An absolute leader in every way, and that follows the president's tweets this morning which he claimed he's getting. Very high marks and our handling of the corona virus especially compared to other countries and areas of the world. Now compared to other countries, the US is leading in overall cases when it comes to getting the virus under control though when it comes to having a plan, not leading the president continues to focus on a vaccine one that isn't approved or even available. We're going to have a vaccine very soon. Maybe even before a very special date data, I'm talking about. Well we know what that date is. It's the election day and yes, everyone wants a vaccine but we're waiting on that we know what works masks and the president really still not advocating it. That's not an absolute leader. The country again is at a crossroads there's an opportunity here for the president he can lead he can put forth a plan to slow down the spread of the virus. And most importantly, he can follow that plan himself or he can continue to undermine the nation's top experts like he did today when he disparaged once again, one of the only tools that has been proven to stop the spread of the virus mask. It's something that could also save as many as one hundred, twenty, two, thousand lives by the end of this year according to one influential model. The president. The issue of what happened when you were. Cleaning you're going to have to take that office. You can take it off your your health feel your wed.. Well if you don't take it off year. Old So. If you would take it off, would be a lot easier. A lot lot better. It's better. Better. The president. As you see, they're trying really hard to get Jeff Mason to take off his mask. I'm going to speak with him in just a moment moments later though the president was praising another journalists for not wearing a mask. Space on some of your tweets Do you you sound so clear? As opposed to everybody else where they refuse. Jeff Mason Reuters, White House correspondent is out front Jeff. This of course is not the first time that the president has tried to get you to take your mask off during a press conference. Of course, just on Friday, he was telling all of us to wear masks over the holiday weekend. When he's asking you to take that mask off. Do you think it was really that he just couldn't hear you couldn't understand you or was there a different purpose there? It's a good question. I think he probably does have a little bit of trouble hearing and I think having had a microphone there. If the White House had set, one up might have helped but I my solution was just to speak a little bit louder. And I think that that took care of it. In that case, the fact that he ended up raising another colleague later, who didn't have a mask on though does go to the mixed messaging that this president has employed on masks throughout the pandemic he did start to embrace them more in the last month or two wearing one for the first time in public when he went to. A military hospital but certainly for the first several months of the pandemic that was not a standard for this president and as you noted in your introduction. It is very clear. The science is very clear now that wearing masks and have a a huge impact. Yeah it certainly is I was really struck today in watching this press conference. The president really seemed to be using this time to air variety of grievances and what's fascinating too is that this was happening, of course at the White House and yet there were a number of moments that felt like that airing of grievances was really more of a campaign rally. Yeah. I mean the the president didn't have any other events today for Labor Day while his opponent was out campaigning although he does have a robust campaign travel schedule coming up. So it's not that the president is planning to stay home but he did today and he used the backdrop of the white. House. As the setting for news conference in which as you say, he went off on on many different topics criticizing very sharply vice, President Joe, Biden, and Senator Comma Harris for their basically. Criticism of him on the vaccine and also taking off a number of other grievances with regard to the economy to Russia and to the Atlantic reporting about his alleged comments about US war dead is it your sense and even from your sources at the White House that we will be seeing more of this briefing miserable takes you back to the coronavirus briefings right? which eventually stopped as we know because of some of the statements that the president made but are we going to see more of these? Briefings that are really just a a rally in disguise well, those those corona virus briefing stopped and then they did restart again shorter versions in the White House press room This was not that particular model today since he was outside and it was not. One of the shorter briefings. But yeah, I think on the days that he does not campaign or isn't out traveling for the campaign he still wants to get his message across and he has used the White House and use the podium beat in the briefing room or be it today in front of the North Puerto Rico. Puerto. Rico as a place to get that message out and he starts with several minutes of his own. Comments and then take some questions and that's what he did today. To, get back to your question. Yeah I'm sure I'm sure we'll see that again.

Trump says Pence was never on standby, denies "mini-strokes” amid speculation over his health

"Tonight the White House is responding to questions about President. Trump's health and his mysterious visit to Walter Reed Medical Center the President's physician issued a statement today and it said he could could not. Confirm rather that the president has not experienced nor been evaluated for stroke many stroke or any acute cardiovascular emergencies as have been incorrectly reported in the media. Now, to be clear, no major or reputable news outlet has actually claimed trump suffered quote mini strokes, but it does come as a new book claims Vice President Pence was put on alert to take over the duties of president. Trump had to be put under anesthesia during that November twenty, one, thousand, nine, hundred trip to Walter reet out front. Now Dr Jonathan Reiner, he is the director of the Cardiac Cath Lab at George Washington University and he advised the White House medical team under President George W Bush great to see you doctor Reiner that statement obviously laid out what didn't occur but not what did happen that day? Do you believe they're using a straw man argument here? Do not address would actually might have happened. Of course something obviously happened. On November sixteenth in the afternoon on Saturday, the president was hurried in urgent fashion in an unplanned fashion to Walter Reed. Now, the White House has prodigious medical capabilities. So if the president was taken to Walter Reed. He was taken there because there was something going on that they could either treat or evaluate at the White House and the white. House does not want us to know what that is. If they did the a presents physician today would have simply said, he didn't have any neurologic cardiac problem he simply had ex but then won't. Excited matter you know So the vice president pence I, want to actually go back to that question about whether the president's health should be a private matter. But before we get to that vice president pence was asked just moments ago about being on alert that day and here's what he said. Nothing out of the ordinary about that moment or or that day, and I just refer any other questions to the White House physician as far as being on standby. I don't I don't recall being told to be on standby. He would think well, if you were told to be on the president knew you would remember that but do you believe him? I think in the Watergate that call that a non denial denial right so yeah, you would think that if on a Saturday afternoon, you're called instead and you get to be on standby if you suddenly need to become president this afternoon. Yeah you might remember that. So yeah a vice presidents being disingenuous yet when we do need to know what happened that. So we'll talk about that. Why is it important for the public to know about the president's health and is it? Is it something that that the president of the White House could say look this is this is a private matter and and we don't want to discuss the president's health any further. Yes. So if the president was a private citizen that would make perfect sense, but the president is not, and in this election season, we need to know the health of the candidates for President I've actually. Written about this, we know nothing actually about the health of the present the United States if you remember his clearance to run for office was famously pen by Dr Bornstein in New York who then later admitted that the president had drafted the letter for him. That's the letter that famously said that if elected, he would be the healthiest man ever to hold office. We know virtually nothing about the health prison the United States. Yet, he holds a the nuclear launch codes in his pocket. Look we. Health clearances for airline pilots and school bus drivers and secret service agents. We should probably know the health of the president of the United States. And it's interesting as doctors have often used as you point out hyperbole. I remember one saying he could live up to until two hundred until he was two hundred really quick. Is there any scenario where it would make sense for the vice president to be on standby for routine physical for the president? Not for routine physical if the president was going to receive unconscious sedation if he was needed to be put out let's say he was having a colonoscopy or having a a cardioversion for an abnormal heart rhythm or needed to undergo surgery with general anesthesia yet. It would need to be out in the twenty Fifth Amendment would need to be invoked. But not for just a routine matter.

Trump says Pence was never on standby, denies "mini-strokes” amid speculation over his health

"Well, front up next more questions tonight over the president's mysterious trip to Walter, Reed, last year why was the vice president reportedly on standby to take over? Tonight the White House is responding to questions about President. Trump's health and his mysterious visit to Walter Reed Medical Center the President's physician issued a statement today and it said he could could not. Trump denies police racism is 'systemic' on Kenosha visit

"The president deny systemic racism exists the very reason for protests across the country including in Kenosha Wisconsin beside of the police shooting of Jacob. A Kennedy is on the ballot in Massachusetts. Here's why he's not guaranteed a victory.

"And out front up next we're. Just. From one of the most closely watched primaries this year a young Kennedy on the ballot in Massachusetts but can he unseat a seventy four year old incumbent? Because it's about ideas I am the youngest guy. In. This race. Tonight and the fight for twenty twenty a usual dynamic emerging Massachusetts ahead of tomorrow's Democratic Senate primary. The incumbent in his seventies was support from progressives, his challenger young and Kennedy Manu. Raju is out front. The Hiroshima Political Dynasty the grandson of the leap Robert F Kennedy campaigning to serve in the Senate like his famous great uncles and grandfather before him the. Certainly. I think you're doing great job. Hello. The candidate he's right there. For Life Magazine. Thirty nine year old Joe. Kennedy is facing something unexpected. Seventy four year old senator who has been in Congress for almost forty four years. Has Managed to galvanize support of young voters. Ahead of Tuesday's Massachusetts Senate primary I think that a lot of young people that are our age at least. From from our town have been similarly really inspired by Ed Markey polls show Senator Ed Markey as the favourite threatening to make the four term. The first Kennedy to lose a race in Massachusetts unlike other primaries this year were democratic incumbents have been ousted by liberal newcomers. Marquis has managed to turn that dynamic on its head because it's about ideas. I am the youngest guy. In this race Alexandria, it's been murky seizing the mantle of the insurgent, touting his support of liberal causes at the green new deal and endorsement of the progressive firebrand. Alexandria Cossio Cortes such the green new deal that I introduced Alexandria Cossio. Healthcare justice is on the ballot. That's Medicare for all that I next the Bernie. Sanders. When he introduced it yet, it's been Kennedy with the badging of the party establishment leader Speaker Nancy Pelosi Allies have been frustrated that marquee has not been held to account for full record over four decades like his backing of the Iraq war in two thousand and two the NAFTA deal in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety, three, his position on racial issues like school desegregation dating back to the nineteen seventies progressive willing to look those hurdles that's up to a progressive movement. Out. I think an awful lot of folks in many parts of Massachusetts have a different view of that records and what that means to our communities after going door to door in working class Boston neighbors weekend. Kennedy. Accused Marquis of abandoning the state. He's been less time in the state than anybody else delegation in an interview with CNN Marquis fired back there is. No real record of Congressman Kennedy in his eight years leading on issues of of generational change in Washington Kennedy has waited until late in the campaign to stress that it's his family I. You vote for me you're going to get now Kennedy does pull off an upset on Tuesday night it could be thanks in part to the fact that he is allies have spent more on television advertising than Markey and his allies roughly two million dollars more. But if he loses what Kennedy will do next still an open question we posed that question to him he didn't want to entertain it and said, he looks forward to running through the finish line and celebrating on Tuesday night.

Trump holds first briefing since May

"Today the president held what was billed as corona virus briefing his first since April only there were no doctors and no experts and no plans as to what he is going to do now to slow the spread that we are still seeing and increasing instead the president tried to convince us to now believe not to not believe are is not believe our ears, and not believe a recent memory because he's now suggesting that he's always been in support of wearing masks. Have the mass grade here. I carried, and I will use it. Gladly no problem with it and I've said that, and I say if you can use the mask when you can use the mask if you're. Close to each other. If you're in a group I, would put it on. That is legitimately good message. That is the message that experts across the country have been calling for since April yet, this is now. This is this is now for the president. A do as I say not as I do situation because the president said that that today what you just saw, but did not wear a mask when he was here with a group of people at the trump hotel last night well were wearing masks, and he has made no secret that he does not like masks. The masks it's going to be. Really voluntary thing you can do. You don't have to do it I'm choosing not to do it. I think wearing face mask. As I greet. Presidents Prime Ministers. Dictators Kings Queens I. Don't know somehow. I don't see it for myself. They've learned about face masks. Good in the bed. By the way it's not a one sided thing, believe it or not. But for today you apparently can count trump as pro mask. Kaelin Collins is out front live outside the white. House for US Kayla. What else do you hear from the President? This first briefing back? Today is an acknowledgement. He has not made recently, and that's that this is going to get worse before it gets better. He said unfortunately, and he encouraged Americans to wear masks when. When they're outside of their home. Though just moments later, he was forced to defend that video that you just show or he was at trump hotel last night, and he was near people where he was not wearing a mask, and it's not clear that those people had been tested though today. California went from bending the curve to a major coronavirus surge. What happened?

"New Tonight for the fourth time in one week. Los Angeles County is breaking its own record for the number of people that are in the hospital with corona virus, which also means. California is inching closer to surpassing. New, York's record of having the most cases in the country. What went so wrong in California Sarah Gardner is out front. When you're sleeping on your belly. The staff at this California. Hospital is nearing exhaustion every minute I think about covid nineteen, a video diary from inside Eisenhower, health, Rancho Mirage nurse Catherine Davis says she's used to seeing one death a year in her unit. With seven hundred Cova patients treated here so far she's now seeing forty deaths. We would ensure that a patient did not die alone. So you know, we would take turns spending time with them and holding their hand and talking to them, doctors knew they had the beds to treat the surge, but not the staff when we heard that the next wave of relief might come in and two weeks three weeks four weeks. You know that's when things become a little bit desperate. They asked the federal government for help, and it arrived an airforce medical team of about twenty help shoulder the unending load. The stress here repeated all over California. So how did we get here? The state was the first to announce a stay at home order that was march nineteenth. This is a moment we need to make tough decisions. Seven weeks later, the governor reopened the state on. On May ain't. You have bent the curve, but that wasn't to be by early June. The seven day average for new daily coronavirus cases was more than twenty, six hundred by July, Eleventh at more than ninety, four, hundred, more than two hundred fifty percent, increase and rewarding. You are renowned epidemiologist. What went wrong? In California we opened up too soon. We didn't have the virus totally under control, experts agree. Residents and local governments got complacent. Back on the field now case in point, three suburban counties near La all lifted their mask requirements under heavy pressure from angry residents. None of this is based on science, but rather an affair is political agenda to silence, the people and Strip freedoms from hardworking Americans now. hard-working Americans. All three counties are seeing Cova D- Surge And Hospital? Beds are filling out and that's frightening 'cause. Where do we go from? There are patients telling you healthy might have gotten it. Yes, well, some of them are partners. Some of them have. Gone Out and gone to parties, no masks but Los Angeles County did and still does have strict mask, requirements, tickets, or even being issued. If you don't comply and yet, it's still the epicenter of the California surge. How much worse does it have to get in Los Angeles? Before you feel compelled to issue another stay at home order well I think we're on the brink of that. People are not following the rules or not wearing masks or not social distancing among them. California's forty and under who make up more than half of the state's new cases. Also hard hit the Latino community which makes up a third of the state's population, but more than half of Cova infections. Sometimes it's mom and dad's work experience that has brought them into contact with it, and then it goes through the whole family. Experts say fixing all this comes only one way you have to just shut down for now. I think they'd is our only way out. And that is really depressing for almost anyone everyone worrying about the economy coming back, but as a couple of people told us you have to have a healthy society to have a healthy economy and one of the big issues is testing used to take a couple of days now you can take up to a week just to get an appointment when you get your results back as a whole different problem

"Next the breaking news startling warning from the director of the CDC telling the WASHINGTON POST POSSIBLE SECOND WAVE NEXT. Winter could be worse than the current Virus outbreak plus. Our Dr Sanjay Gupta takes an antibody test. What did he learn from it? He's going to share his experience and the results and renowned infectious disease expert. Who was the behind the movie? Contagion also attractive corona virus. He tells me what he feared the most as he battled the disease and why he has warning things could get a lot worse before they get better. Let's go out front and good evening. I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight the breaking news an alarming warning from the director of the CDC Director Robert Redfield telling The Washington Post possible. Second wave in the winter could be worse than the current outbreak the quote. There's a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through. We're going to have the flu epidemic and the Corona virus epidemic. All at the same time he says to respiratory outbreaks would put on imaginable strain on the healthcare system. And what may be more concerning tonight is that he says his warnings of this are falling on deaf. Ears presumably obviously at the most powerful and important levels of the US public health and government. He said when I've said this to others they kind of put their head back. They don't understand what I mean. This comes as the number of crony virus cases. It's a new milestone in the United States. Now more than eight hundred thousand and the death toll now more than forty four thousand two hundred people. Nick what is out front live in Los Angeles and Nick you know as you hear warnings like the CDC director falling on deaf ears. You have some states trying to rush to reopen now with very little agreement on how to even define reopen. Absolutely Erin. Listen you know we were hailing these blocks of states? Last week that we're agreeing to collaborate cooperate on opening but boy is it getting messy already. You've got the federal government position which disagrees with some of the states. You've got size Carolina saying that they're ready to open up. You've got North Carolina saying that. They are not ready at the governor of Connecticut. governor of the Montana summed it up talking about himself and governor camp of Georgia. He said that their views are the exact opposite. When it comes to reopening that is the problem and as you mentioned all the while. We're now being told that this virus could come back in the full and comeback even harder the virus has killed more than forty four thousand Americans and it will return this winter and it might be even worse so the. Cdc Director Tells The Washington Post because it could coincide with regular flu season. Two respectively at breaks at once would hammer our health systems. Meanwhile our leaders are trying to agree on how to reopen from round one take Dallas County. They extended stay home through mid may setting up a possible showdown with the governor. To the extent that executive order has statewide application it would overrule any local jurisdiction in Iowa Democratic. Lawmakers want a pork processing plant closed after an outbreak. The governor will do it. The governor in Georgia says barber shops nail. Salons gyms can reopen Friday but soul cycle says. It won't congregations can gather but one bishop is telling his flock not to and other governors are wary Pam. Glad I'm not an immediate neighbor Georgia because I think all you're doing is potentially throwing some gas on the flames. They're testing of course is required to keep track of the virus as we reopen. If we don't have the data we don't know what we're up against. The continued lack of testing partly. What's making some in Georgia? So anxious about reopening when you testing we certainly need work on treatment and we need contact tracing of the sort that we just don't have in this state the White House guidelines say you should start reopening only after among other things a downward trajectory of documented cases within a fourteen day period. We are on track to meet the gating criteria for phase. One not really Monday April. Sixth One thousand nine hundred nine new cases fourteen days later yesterday just one less. Not so in Tennessee. But they plan to reopen some businesses. Monday not so in South Carolina but they opened beaches and retail stores. Today in the reality. Is that south? Carolina has not been chedda according to our own professionals marital beach defying. The governor will keep beach parking closed. Now I just WanNa talk briefly about haircuts in Georgia hair salons will open Friday. We are told that social distancing will be maintained. I've Lost Count of the number of times over the past twenty four hours that I've been asked. How is that possible? Somebody just asked Dr Burks during the White House press conference. She was a little evasive but she said she doesn't. She says I don't know how that can happen. But people are very creative. So that's really not answer. The president said he will be speaking with Governor Kemp tonight and the president said he's not sure if perhaps they'll be taking people's temperatures as they walk into the hair saloon salon. I'm sorry more to come. I'm sure on haircuts in Georgia Aaron. The salons opened the saloon still closed all right. Thank you very much To Nick what. And let's go down to the Democratic governor of Oregon. Kate Brown governor appreciate your time tonight so I just want to start with. Nicholas was talking about there the CDC director tonight is warning that a second wave next winter Could be even worse. His using the word assault saying it will be more difficult because you would have corona virus and flew and it would simply put unimaginable strain on the public health system. Do you agree with your state? Be ready for that. Is that even part of your plan. Look we are just beginning the reopening phase right now we're starting to put meat on the bones and our counties are helping us with that work. It's very collective and it's very collaborative here. And we're making decisions based on science and data and we're lying on public health experts and epidemiologists in terms of the fall. I think it's this. Corona virus is going to change our lives in ways we have not imagined. I think it's really important that we start preparing for the future. For example we do not have Internet in all of our homes and our communities and our businesses around Oregon again. I think it's imperative that we do that quickly. So that our school children can continue to learn through the Internet through distance learning and have access to that in the event. We have an outbreak in the fall. We also need to make sure that we have the ability to conduct elections safely across the entire country. People should not be putting their health nor their lives at risk voting in November. And we have the means to do this in Oregon. We've been voting by mail literally voting at home in our kitchen tables in our pajamas for years for decades. We can do this safely. We can do it effectively and we can do it cost effectively so when you talk about what you're trying to do. Now we know the Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York he was just with the president Not long ago late this afternoon and was talking about the need for more testing supplies They both said that the meeting was productive but but governor. You know as well as I know that there are two very different tales in this country. One is the president saying that testing is up to the states and and we've done more tests than anywhere else in the world so therefore everything is fine and that any problems are on the governors and the other version of the story is the reality on the ground. Which is that. There is not all the testing that is needed for a variety of reasons. Whether it'd be the test themselves the reagents needed to interpret them or something in between But but he says you've got everything you need right now. Is that true? What response to the President? Absolutely not we certainly got some of the PPI that we requested. We roughly got about twenty five percent of our requests. But we realized that we're going to have to rely on Oregon Ingenuity and creativity. So we've been very careful. We've worked hard to collect it or Dennis offices have contributed their P P. We've worked very hard to be conservative in our use. But most importantly working with Oregon businesses to produce it we have had over. Eighty Oregon. Businesses are creating masks creating gloves creating gowns. I'm not sure they're doing gloves. But you get my and what about on that. Very aggressive around procurement in terms of testing. It's about having the right type of tests in the right locations..

"Out Front next breaking news. The president's Attorney General says he won't be bullied by trump speaking out after intervening in Roger Stone's The sentencing. But is he really taking a stand against the president plus trump taking on his former chief of staff after John Kelly publicly St slammed him and Michael Bloomberg building? What could be a Billion Dollar Juggernaut? It's already bigger than President. Obama's two thousand eight full campaign. Is it working? Let's go out and good evening. I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight. The breaking news bar speaks out against trump's tweets the president's attorney general in pretty blunt terms tonight saying trump is making it impossible for bar to do his job. Think about that now. Bars defending his decision to intervene in the sentencing of trump's longtime friend and convicted Felon Roger. Stone he tells. Abc News tonight that he was going to break with prosecutors. He was planning to do that. He was planning to push for a lighter sentence and the one that they publicly recommend it. But then trump got involved tweeting. The prosecutors recommended sentence for stone was horrible very unfair miscarriage of justice. All of that in a tweet. So bar looked like a patsy looked like he was just doing trump's bidding and Barr says that trump forced him into an untenable situation. Tweet occurred the question as well. now what do I do and Do go forward with what you think is the right decision. You pull back because of the tweet and that. Just sort of illustrates had disrupted these tweets can be. So you're saying you have a problem with the tweets. Yes well I have a problem with some of the some of the tweets. I'm happy to say that. In fact the president has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case however to have public statements and tweets made about the department about Are People in the department are men and women hear about cases pending in the department and about judges before whom we have cases Make it impossible for me to do my job to assure the courts and the prosecutors in the in the department that we're doing our work with integrity of our president does not like to be told what to do. He may not like what you're saying. Are you prepared for those ramifications of course as I said during my confirmation I came in to serve as Attorney General I am responsible for everything that happens in the department but the thing I have most responsibility for are the issues that are brought to me for decision and I will make those decisions based on what I think is the right thing to do. And I'm not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody and I said whether it's Congress newspaper editorial boards or the president. I'm going to do what I think is right and You know The I think the the I cannot do my job here at the department With a constant background commentary that that undercuts me so just to be clear here. Did you talk to the president at all about your decision regarding the recommendations the recommendations on this case never anybody from the White House? Call to try to influence. You know so I I have not. I have not discussed. The Roger Stone case at the White House has never talked about the stone. Case with trump are just happened. He says to want the exact same thing. That trump wanted which is too many issues for bar from trump's wished for investigation into the Biden's to the Miller report. What trump wants from bar he has tended to get and trump knows it? He talked about it today. Do you ever wonder what your life would have been like if you had picked William Bar instead of jeff sessions when you life would have been a lot easier? Well there you have it from his mouth. Kaitlan Collins is live outside the White House. Now Caitlyn the thing is is saying I agreed. I wanted to do the same thing. But he got involved with a tweet and it makes him impossible for me to do my job and basically he needs to. I'm trying to find a polite way to put. It needs to stop tweeting. How is the president reacting to bars comments by the president tweeting that it looks like the the attorney? General was taking directions from the president which was the criticism that was prompted by that tweet from the president. Now tonight the White House was caught off guard by this interview. Based on several officials we spoke with but they have put out a statement saying that the president has full confidence in his attorney general to continue to do his job and that he is free to air his opinions publicly as he so chooses but Aaron. We also know this is a president who doesn't like to be criticized certainly not publicly challenged by one of his favourite cabinet members so really. What the president's thinking on all of this is likely to play out in the next several hours because often the way he views an event is shaped by the coverage of it so that is really going to be the question going forward here because when officials have much lighter ways disagreed with the president before on the record he has pushed back pretty strongly. So that's really the question going forward here and what the president does then because Barbara saying he felt like he was put in an untenable position by the president's tweet by what he wanted to do but the president himself here also seems to be what many see as an apostle situation because of course is one of his favourite cabinet members. He is carrying out the agenda. The president wants but he has publicly challenging him in a pretty defiant way so I think we have to wait to see exactly how the president himself weighs in on all of this. It's a really fair point Caitlyn because as you say bar making it very clear right to public statements and tweets makes it impossible for me to do my job. It could not be more of a direct in your face then that Caitlyn thank you and I wanna go out front now to democratic congresswoman. Val demings she's on the house. Judiciary and intelligence committees and of course she served as house impeachment manager. You saw her there in the Senate Day After Day. Making the case It comes from Laos you. What do you think about just the way this is happening? Why is bar choosing to speak out in this way in a public national interview instead of privately? Aaron it's good to be back with you and let me say this is interesting listening to attorney general bar talk about what he said during his confirmation hearing. He certainly said all of the right things and it's eerie. But you know someone once said. Don't listen to what I say. Look at what I do and if we look at what. Attorney General Bar has done. There's been no daylight between him and the White House Attorney General Bars you remember. Miss categorize the conclusions and the Mullahs report. Basically misleading the American people. The attorney general then helped president trump up strut Congress's ability to provide oversight in to investigate the president's wrongdoing. I have no faith or confidence. And what William Bar has said. I think that this situation involving Roger Stone has turned up the heat a bit. The president who has been impeached and just went through a trial. Really can't take that and I think I would not be surprised. Erin if the attorney general and the president did were not in cahoots in terms of bar making a public statement to the American senior so okay so when Barr comes out and tells trump to stop tweeting. Let me just play that part for you again. The point you just made I just want to play that again. Quickly here it is congresswoman to have public statements and tweets made about the department about People in the department are men and women hear about cases pending in the department and about judges before whom we have cases Make it impossible.

"Massive failure the Pentagon now saying it is not withdrawing troops from Iraq after mistakenly releasing draft letter suggesting. I think that's exactly what the United States was doing. This as the Defense Secretary of the United States contradicts his boss the commander in chief on Iran in a big way. The John Bolton says he's ready to talk so why don't Republicans want to hear from the guy who was in the womb on the calls and with the president. What are they afraid of? An Iran Ron and trump's impeachment upending the race twenty twenty. Let's go out front and good evening. I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight on the brink a boiling point at this hour between the US and Iran and a major blunder tonight from the trump administration creating chaos at a terrible time. This is this is what I'm talking about. Look at this letter. The Chairman of the Chief of staff admitting the military made a mistake when it sent this letter. This letter notifies Iraq that American forces will. We'll be relocating to quote prepare for Onward Movement. So in English that is they are moving to withdraw so US troops five thousand US troops currently in Iraq preparing to withdraw a move made you know caving to Iraq's parliament which voted two to US troops. This would be a major entrance. transformative move for the United States to take in light of the Iran chaos but then a short time later the military said the letter is a mistake breath. The quote General Mark Milley Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said the letter was a draft. It was a mistake. It was unsigned. It should not have been released. I mean I mean this is an incredible thing. You were talking about the greatest the mightiest military on the face of the planet. So the United States military said it was withdrawing from Iraq caving to Iraqis who were siding with Iran on when it was not true they to drop. Let's say they were doing it and they weren't even doing it. And then it comes as the secretary of defense is now contradicting president trump when it comes to targeting Iran's is cultural sites president trump saying just last night and I quote him. They're allowed to kill our people. They're allowed to torture and maim our people. They're allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people and we're not allowed to touch their cultural sites. It doesn't work that way will accept. It does when you're the United States of America and it would qualify as a war crime crime to go in and start blowing up. Iran priceless cultural sites and secretary asper secretary of defense just moments ago when asked about targeting cultural sites said quote we we will follow the laws of armed conflict just to be clear those laws would say you do not destroy cultural sites so the president and the military that he commands are not on the same page. The Secretary of Defense of the United States of America is taking on the commander in chief. This is not a small thing. This is a seismic thing especially at a time when the stakes with Iran could not be higher tonight. The United States is preparing to deploy B fifty two bombers to the region to be on stand boy. Sandbox should the US need to strike Iran. So these are a lot of fast moving developments tonight and I want to go straight to Pamela Brown. WHO has out front live for us in Washington tonight? Pamela massive confusion to say the least from the administration tonight there are certainly been mixed signals confusion emanating from the administration tonight as this administration Aaron braces for a potential counter honor attack from Iran amid the fallout from the strike on Sulejmani tonight as tensions with Iran escalate congressional Democrats Are demanding the White House. Declassify the formal notification Cinta Congress justifying the deadly drone strike against Iranian military. Commander Quiz seem seem Sulejmani. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Bob Menendez sending a joint letter to president trump. Saying quote it is critical that national security matters of such import be shared with the American people in a timely manner and entirely classified notification is simply not appropriate in a democratic society and House Speaker Speaker. Nancy Pelosi calling the White House's decision to classify the entire notification highly unusual saying in a statement the move suggests the Congress and the the American people are being left in the dark about our national security. This was a bad guy. We took him from the battlefield secretary of State. Mike pompeo avoiding directly answering questions. It's about the imminent threat. The administration says Sulejmani posed and the region. We saw that he was plotting further plans to take down Americans in some cases many Americans. When you you say the attacks were imminent how imminent were they? Were talking about days. We talking about weeks. If you're an American in the region days and weeks this is not something that's relevant seven. We have to prepare. We have to be ready ahead of an intelligence briefing for the House and Senate from key administration officials set for Wednesday Pelosi introducing a war powers resolution. The House aimed at limiting the president's powers with regard to Iran going forward on his way back to Washington from his two week mar-a-lago holiday the president told reporters quarters aboard Air Force. One that he may discuss releasing the intelligence but didn't commit to anything as Iran. Mourns the loss of Sulejmani trump also renewing in his threats to target any attack Iran cultural sites if Iran retaliates against the. US saying they're allowed to kill our people they're allowed to torture and Maim Mr People. They're allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people and we're not allowed to touch their cultural sites. It doesn't work that way but Defense Secretary Mark Asper contradicting contradicting the president today saying the. US military will follow the laws of armed conflict which would not allow for such attacks and Aaron. I'm told by a senior administration official. The president trump has been enclosed contact with his national security team and he's being briefed Multiple Times a day on the latest regarding Iran. Aaron Pamela. Thank you very much and I want to go out front now. Democratic Senator Chris Van Holland and senator. I appreciate your time You know that's just a top leadership at the Pentagon today today defending again the killing of Solani saying that there was an imminent strike. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says quote. I will stand by the intelligence I saw that it was compelling that it was imminent and it was very very clear in scale and scope. Do you believe him Erin I believe that we can only believe it when we see it. I think we learned the very hard way during the Iraq war how administration's political folks in administrations rations and others manipulate and corrupt intelligence To get the policy result they wanted in this case An excuse to to go after a Sulejmani and so it's very appropriate that we be asking for this evidence after all the administration story on this keeps shifting fifteen there a rationale keeps shifting And they have provided no evidence To Congress that there was an imminent threat there was a a staff briefing at the top secret level. Just a few days ago before. The Senate reconvened And they didn't provide any the administration didn't provide any information and evidence supporting that so so It's important that we get that. It's also important that we recognize that the overall goal administration Had is really they just blown up. I mean you talked about this back and forth today in response to the Iraqi parliament's vote to get rid of. US forces look whether or not in the end of the day all our forces pull out or not the reality is that Sumani goal all along was to undermine our strategy and our interests. It's an influence in Iraq and he seems to have accomplished in death what he could not do in life so generally says this letter that you're referring to it was released by mistake and poorly worded. He said that's not what's happening in terms of Removing troops He knows we can all read right. The latter says We're required to take certain measures to ensure the movement out of Iraq is conducted in a safe and efficient manner. We respect your sovereign decision to order our departure. So it's not poorly worded. Did it says what it says. Okay what do you think's happening here. Well I read the letter to and it's clear on. Its face what it meant. I think this administration really the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing And what were seen as the result of that that chaos on the one hand they're gonNA send that letter the Iraqis or they did on the other hand they say no. We didn't really mean that. So this is a pretty dangerous situation that has been from the start start. It's been made more dangerous by this administration's escalation we are now closer.

"Breaking news. Good evening I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight breaking news the White House declaring war over impeachment Putting the nation on the brink of a constitutional crisis in this angry eight-page letter from trump's White House counsel the President says he will not cooperate with the impeachment investigation crane will you cooperate with those subpoenas I always cooperate. He's not playing word games tonight it is more on trump's counsel writes in this letter many Democrats now apparently view impeachment not only as a means to undo the democratic results of the last election but as a strategy you to influence the next election the irony of course seems to be lost that the impeachment investigation itself is about trump trying to influence the next election by forcing foreign country to investigate his rival Joe Biden that's what happened on the phone call at the heart of this crisis and tonight we are learning that one official listening to that call found it crazy and frightening those are the exact words a member of trump's team used to describe trump's call with the Ukrainian president this officials spoke to the whistle blower who wrote a memo quoting these disturbing words the day after the call occurred the official went on to say that he or she was quote shaken by what transpired tired between trump and Ukrainian president Zelinski crazy frightening not with the president has said nearly half a dozen times just a pass twenty four hours about that call to the American people he hopes that if he says what you're about to hear enough that it will seem true to enough people the call was perfect perfect perfect cool that call is a very terrific all okay there's one want to say here which is perhaps for trump this is actually true because after all the president of Ukraine told him he stated Izzo tell that trump was a great teacher that trump's plane was better than his and of course when the Ukraine hasn't brought up desperately needed military aid trump said he needed a favor that investigation into Joe Biden's so maybe it was a terrific to him but to so many others on that call it was are far from perfect not just the official says it was crazy and frightening there were others according to three sources soon after the call ended multiple age talked about whether they should report the aw and at least one National Security Council official alerted the White House national security lawyers about what trump said so those lawyers then move the caller transcript with the highly classified server took prevent people from seeing it a lot to get to tonight I want to start with Kaitlan collins out front outside the White House Caitlyn the White House tonight this is it this is no no games no nuance This is it eight pages no cooperation unless yeah Aaron White House officials have been frustrated for days after Pelosi launched that impeachment inquiry or viewing they didn't think it was legitimate and now you're seeing that argument behind the scenes that we've been hearing come to life in this scorching letter that they sent up to Capitol Hill today saying that they are not going to cooperate with this because they said it was constitutionally invalid they believed that it violates president the end the president's due process rights and they're basically telling them flat out we're not going to give you any of these documents that you've been requesting and we're also not going to provide you with any testimony from any of these officials that you've been asking to speak with either this is essentially them telling them they are not going to cooperate they are basically going to war with Democrats over the impeachment inquiry but what's interesting here and what to watch for going forward is during a briefing call with reporters after this letter was sent to Capitol Hill a senior administration official was asked well what are you going to do if the house does take up this impeachment inquiry boat that we've been hearing behind the scenes officials want them to take so they can be a legitimate probe that officials said they weren't going to entertain hypothetical various situations were going to get into that yet so basically they are not saying yes we're going to cooperate if the house does impeachment inquiry vote and it does prove successful so that's going to be something to watch going forward that even if Democrats do take that measure it still doesn't sound like the White House is going cooperate at least not willingly here Erin all right thank you very much Kaitlyn an important point right they're not saying vote and will give you everything they're saying vote and that's all there is hang out brought now Democratic Congressman Tom Osc of New Jersey member of the Foreign Affairs Committee former Assistant Secretary of state under President Obama when the prosecutor at the center of the Biden Accusation Sion's was fired and I know you and I have talked about that and how you say everybody wanted it done and told Joe Biden Messenger Congressman I wanna I get your reaction tonight the White House is letter to the House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Chairman of Your Committee Eliot Engel they call the impeachment investigation In this letter in balance and unconstitutional your responser I guess they haven't read the Constitution because impeachment is bright there is a power of the House of Representatives as you know the role of the house in this process is not to convict the president we we play a role into a grand jury we investigate the charges and we decide whether the president merits being put on trial by the Senate and in the Ranger you don't get the things that the president is demanding the right to cross examine witnesses and and so forth so whoever wrote this is completely unfamiliar with the the most basic of the law in America not to mention the constitution I would also say that look we're giving them a chance here we already know most of the ax we know that the president trump asks a foreign government to to interfere in in our twenty twenty election we're giving them a chance to tell side of the story we're trying to give them due process by having these interviews and collecting this information so if they choose not to avail themselves of that opportunity that's right it's actually their loss so let me ask you though what happens here because they're they're very clear here they're not cooperating the letter the quotas president trump and his administration not participate in your partisan unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances I wanna be clear as caitlyn pointed out they don't say whether if the house goes ahead and votes for a formal inquiry that they would cooperate then either and all the and it's pretty clear that they would not is this a constitutional crisis I mean what do you do next they just said they're not operating what are you GonNa do well it's it's absolutely clear that non-cooperation can itself the a a charge against them at an impeachment process it's obstruction of a constitutional process and it's not necessarily gonNA stop us from getting the facts because again we we already know many of the facts the president has admitted that he did what he did which the vast majority of the American people consider to be highly inappropriate so you know we'll continue to talk to people and by the way the president can't order people at the State Department for example not to talk to the Congress we've already conducted one interview we will conduct more anybody who wants to talk to us can still talk to us and I believe many people will so they're only hurting themselves by taking the position and they're saying obviously that you know you all are threatening to withhold the salaries of State Department people who who WHO's not to cooperate I mean in terms of non-cooperating Gordon Sunland today was supposed to appear and he willingly appeared you didn't have to him he was there he flew in from does he came at a moments before he was supposed to testify team trump said you can't go and he's important right he's the guy who received the text message saying I think police really wants to deliver able when talking to then special representative for Ukraine you have now subpoenaed him tonight to appear next Wednesday so what are you gonNa do if it doesn't show up is they're they're saying basically I mean they're not it it looks like they're not even GonNa go with subpoena we'll look if again if they don't defend themselves against the evidence the copious evidence that we already have then I think disadvantages them this is again it's not the kind of investigation where hurting with nothing we're we're starting with almost everything and we're trying to give them a chance to to have a little due process here and to tell their side of the story S.'s he wants to tell his side of the story maybe thinks he didn't do anything wrong despite what those tax.

"The carolinas plus you video of the deadly fire in california as questions mount about how horrific fire started whether any passengers could could have been saved evening. I'm erin burnett out front tonight. The breaking news hurricane dorian devastation the catastrophic storm storm now setting its sights on florida as tonight. The storm finally picks up speed and it is getting even bigger. These are live pictures right now out of india atlantic on a beach in florida conditions. They're deteriorating tropical storm. Force winds and damaging storms surge are now battering florida's east coast as the hurricane starts to move north new evacuations ordered tonight in both south and north carolina. The dorian is growing in size now about three hundred fifty miles wide the size and strength has officials warning tonight that the hurricane could cause destructive tornadoes up and down the entire southeast during move towards the u._s. Mainland comes as we're getting our first glimpse of the catastrophic devastation left after dory and battered the bahamas for two straight days. This is when it was essentially stalled. These are our new pictures. From great avocado island entire neighborhoods are gone homes literally ripped from their foundations cars and boats as you can see just littering littering thing <hes> the water and the land there it is it is truly destruction debris as far as you can see now. We've also traveled to another hard hit area where rescues are underway as we speak hundreds of homes still underwater there where people have been clinging to roofs stuck in addicts. Let me just show you another way to to look at this and that is a before born after grand bahama island the yellow lines mark what was land before the storm hit so you can see essentially essentially cut there and have our team of reporters are on the ground round tonight. We're going to go live to the bahamas. In just a moment you saw patrick a moment ago there and rescue video. He will be with me in just a moment. I want to go first time. Seder though out front live at the weather center so tom on what is the latest on track now that it is moving again well aaron right now. It's moving at six miles per hour. That's still considered slow for a tropical system but it's better than being stationary. Let me start first with grand bahama island here because they're going into the third night darkness and if you notice on the infrared satellite imagery some of those those colors of black there's still rain that is falling in the area but thunderstorms are coming into the abacus region. That's gotta hurt some of the rescue and search efforts but the windsor counterclockwise so those winds coming in from the northwest are keeping that high water like the images you just showed moments ago from receding when you have the airfield field here and freeport here that inundation of water as long as those winds continuous across the coastline that water is not going to be able to receive the airport poured had five to six feet just completely submerging. It wants to waters recede. They can expect the inspect the airfield just to get some fixed wing aircraft in there because because that's what we're going to need but again now that we're seeing the system lift to the north there are some concerns not just for the carolinas but florida is still in this because if you look at the radar adar we're now starting to see more of a pattern of steady rain and it will be heavy at times. No longer is just the feeder bands kicking through an occasional downpour downpour. This is going to cause some flooding. Florida's had a very wet august in a wet year now. The newest track that came out does give us some concern. It's curly nearly a hundred and five miles east of fort pierce. Yesterday we thought maybe the closest approach would be cape canaveral at thirty five miles now. It looks about eighty but what is it makes its way towards jacksonville. We have problems with that. Surge pushing that water up in the saint john's river but more importantly as we talked about this is a concern in the carolinas is therefore the evacuations we may have landfall very close to the coast of south carolina therefore the warnings have been extended just north of wilmington. Maybe even a better chance dance for maybe cape fear or toward the outer banks but still power outages are going to occur. We're still going to have a storm surge where the water could after hour after hour breach some of the dunes find its way inland and then with that heavy rain and the ponding of water and the flood problems we could have coast. That's coastal areas to maybe twenty twenty five miles those inland but then it gets extremely close to this coast because of the curvature of the coastline and that is a big concern we're looking at maybe a twenty mile difference between the center and and the coastline and if you think the men and women of the national hurricane center have been busy. We've got five systems right now. Erin in the atlantic the peak rica the season is next tuesday more device systems all right. Thank you very much time. I wanna look the damage across the bahamas is widespread <hes> across the island of greenwich <hes> particularly and you talk about bahama right power outage now third day look at these images though <hes> from great avocado homes <hes> have been leveled others are still still underwater as you heard tom talking about right because <hes> the waters can't receive city of freeport has been devastated and that is where patrick opposite is tonight <hes> patrick obviously it has been out amidst the storm. We saw video of you earlier. Patrick people were racing to rescue those who were still trapped to try to save lives. What have you been same with so much of this island. We are still not able to access because we're there used to be streets. There rivers other places places are completely blocked off like the downtown of freeport's over the main hospitals which we hear is full of victims of the storm by submerged submerged cars but we did get to one area erin aware used to be a bridge in out of the staging area for rescues rescuers there they are volunteers and they say that time is running out. I was my brother cleaning off the tree and he he made are safe but <hes> we are unable to locate his wife moment. We hope that she's okay but now the rescue goes on on a lot of people supporting us everybody working at the team well. You know it's very hard but you know what i'm saying but we shall overcome but we are getting survivors go. Why doesn't moore a lot a lot a a lot of people you can find it. At the moment families families uncountable for my brother wife we can you find her. At the moment the last time you said she'll clinging onto a piece of cardboard aww we thought him stuck in the tree dozens have been rescued by is all volunteer force erin but there's still so many more people out there. Just stop for a second imagine. They're entering their third night. They will be in the dark. "Out front next stumbling on the world stage president trump with a series of confusing and misleading claims about china climate emmett change and a meeting with kim jong un it never happened plus trump's slams former president obama while embracing vladimir putin why can't he stopped talking pink about obama and massive crowds and a strong performance in a brand new poll is elizabeth warren on her way to becoming the democratic frontrunner. Let's go out front good evening to you. I'm jim shudo in for erin burnett tonight and out front tonight a parade of lies president trump and the white house forced forced to clarify spin and backtrack on numerous statements made by the president today on the world stage at the g seven summit meeting. Let's start with china president claiming today that china called and wants a trade deal last night trump trade people and <music> said let's get back to the table so we'll be getting back to the table in fact the president later said there were many calls numerous calls high level calls. The only only problem china's foreign minister's office says it is not aware of any calls. No one else from the chinese government has come forward to say that they participated so how did the president explain that discrepancy so the chinese are saying that there weren't any particular thing. Excuse me let me let me explain spy something the vice chairman of china to get higher than that other than president the vice president the vice chairman. It's like the vice president president. The vice chairman made the statement that he wants to make a deal that he wants to see a comment mister. He wanted to happen so it was a foreign industry statement not a phone call directly to the president or as as it was actually a statement of china's longstanding position on the issue so why is the president framing it as something new today in a coal it wasn't a call but just a general public statement since from is is the back and forth and the changing statements from yourself so that salary negotiate so my question is is that a strategy strategy recall president xi of enemy one day and then say that relations are very spend discount negotiate. It's done very well for me over the years and it's doing even even better for the country. Is it up next. The president's list of confusion. Today added the meeting of world leaders on climate change. The president was a no show. We already knew from u._s. Officials that the president thought the sessions on climate change were poor use of his time and at the twenty eighteen g seven and last year trump missed a session on climate and left early so the presence absence today. This weekend was not really surprising but his reasoning was.

"His story is remarkable vowing to turn his life one hundred and eighty degrees. Check it out on my boss fouls podcast today. Out front next contradicting Trump the nation's top intelligence chiefs repeatedly, disputing the president's national security claims why is it ministration not on the same page about something so crucial plus former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, speaking out in an extensive interview about taxes immigration, whether twenty twenty run we'll guarantee Trump's reelection. And Roger stone, pleading not guilty John Podesta the man who's emails were hacked by Russia and released by Wicky leaks is my guest let's go out front. And good evening. I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight, countering Trump's intelligence the nation's most senior intelligence officials testifying to congress today contradicting President Trump's claims about major national security threats to America again, and again and again, take ISIS. Is intent on resurging and still commands thousands of fighters in Iraq and Syria, we've beaten them and we've beaten a badly. They're all coming back and they're coming back now. Talking about the troops on top of this. The president's top intelligence adviser also released this report right is forty two pages about threats facing the United States and on page eleven he continued on ISIS. Isis. Still commands thousands of fighters in Iraq and Syria, and it maintains eight branches is very likely will continue to pursue external attacks Moroccan Syria against adversaries, including the United States. Okay. So there's that couldn't be more diametrically opposed to each other. Then take North Korea. We currently assess that North Korea will seek to retain its WMD capabilities in his unlikely to completely give up its nuclear weapons and production capabilities. They have a process for getting rid of nukes. They're going to do they can start immediately. Okay. Well, here's the thing on page. Eight also continues right North Korean leaders of uniquely nuclear arms is critical to regime survival leaders like Kim Jong UN and the one that Trump is so friendly with all right, then take Russia. Not only the Russians continued to do it in two thousand eighteen but we've seen indication that they're continuing to adapt their model and the other countries are taking a very interested. I in that approach. I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today. Okay. Well, then there was also this. They warned about the dangers of climate change. That's also in this report..

"President Trump about to address the nation making his case for the wall, can you convince the public he's telling the truth. Plus, the congresswoman who called Trump mother effort who should be impeached is out front and he regrets and breaking developments in the Russia investigation. Paul Manafort sharing campaign information with a Russian tied to intelligence, let's go out front. Good evening. I'm Erin Burnett out front tonight. Trump's crisis. You're looking at a live shot of the White House. Where tonight President Trump will address the nation using the gravity of the Oval Office to make his case for building a wall on the border with Mexico and for shutting down the government for eighteen days and counting to do it. According to sources, the president will use individual family stories to make the claim for a crisis along the two thousand mile border with Mexico and the word crisis is what this is all about team Trump. He's got to prove that there is one. Nation is also in the midst of a crisis on our southern border crisis at our southern border crisis at our southern border crisis at our southern border crisis at our southern border deniable crisis at our southern border crisis had our southern border. We have a crisis. We have a national crisis that we have a national crisis. We also have a humanitarian crisis at our border humanitarian crisis humanitarian crisis the border humanitarian crisis at the border. We have a crisis at the border. It's absolute crisis Tedesco Tedesco emergency. emergency. If you say it enough, we'll be so in a conversation with reporters vice President Mike Pence and several other members of the administration used the word crisis thirty seven times, but as of right now, the only real crisis that the administration is facing is a credibility crisis convincing skeptical lawmakers in a public that there actually is a crisis and that the current standoff is actually worth it. I know you're covering, but he also needs to cut out the middleman because there's a lot of misstatement and lies told about him teaming every day just looking around. And so he needs to make sure that he can get his message directly to the American people lies and misstatements about him. Are let's be clear because right now, it's the president and his administration who've been misleading the American public today. Vice President Mike Pence again, citing this statistic when talking about the need for a wall along the southern border only here he is. Nearly four thousand known or suspected terrorists were apprehended attempting to come into the United States through various means in the last year..

"Next, President Trump charging the Obama White House should have killed Osama bin Laden, much sooner Leon Panetta CIA director when bin Laden was taken out is out front. Plus breaking news vodka Trump's sent hundreds of emails about government business using her personal Email account. Did she break federal law and Senate Democrats suing to block Matt Whitaker's appointment as acting attorney general one of the senators leading the charge is out front. Let's go out front. And good evening. I'm Erin Burnett out front this evening, President Trump targeting the military tonight doubling down after slamming. The four star Admiral who was in charge of the Obama bin Laden raid. Trump tweeting, quote, of course, we should have captured Osama bin Laden long before we did why is the president even talking about bin Laden right now. Well, the reason is because he was asked about criticism from the man who oversaw the capture and killing of bin Laden and instead of dressing the criticism, but he got from Admiral mcraven, the president pivoted lobbing insults. Instead. Now, retired four-star Admiral mcraven was ABC will you oversaw the capture Saddam Hussein and the killing of bin Laden. Just a couple of the things that he did in thirty seven years in the United States military, and then in February of two thousand seventeen he said this about Donald Trump. The president said the news media. Is the enemy of the American people this sentiment. This sentiment may be the greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime. The greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime. Well, he said that in two thousand seventeen but it was yesterday when President Trump was specifically asked about them in his interview with Chris Wallace. And here's what he said. He's a Hillary Clinton, backer and are no bomb backer. And frankly, the navy seal. Nice. If we got Osama bin Laden a lot sooner than that. Wouldn't it have been nice? Okay. So let's go to the facts is always first the issue of mcraven politics. He's telling CNN in a statement, quote, I did not back Hillary Clinton or anyone else. I'm a fan of President Obama and President George W Bush both of whom I worked for I'd wire all presidents, regardless of their political party who uphold the dignity of the office and who used that office to bring the nation together and challenging time. So that's the part about his politics. Now, what about the second part of President Trump's slam on mcraven? You know, when he brought in Balat, it should have caught bin Laden's sooner. Well, the former CIA deputy director, Michael Morell summed it up this way saying quote correction needed to his comment today. The mcraven should have found bin Laden sooner CIA, did the finding mcraven special operators did the getting they moved within days of President Obama giving the order in other words, there's no faster mcraven could've moved but Trump's slam of mcraven is actually part of a pattern. Our military's is asking I know more about ISIS than the generals do as the war hero was captured. I like people that weren't capture that last comment, of course, is about the late. Senator John McCain who spent roughly five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam repeatedly, tortured and two of the years that he was there were in solitary confinement. Now, President Trump, of course, did not serve in the military in spite of the draft he received five deferments for Vietnam one of which was for bone Spurs. In fact, this is what we've heard him say about his Vietnam experience comparing dating to.
