And in fact i went to cal state long beach so i used to be in the la area for a long time so it's good to reconnect with lovely l. a. What i used to call the center of the universe at that time. So let me introduce you to the audience for those people. That don't know eric. He is the ceo of content intelligence software. click flow. Which helps you grow your traffic while looking like a genius and who doesn't want that also owns an ad agency single grain and work with companies such as amazon airbnb salesforce and uber to acquire more customers. He hosts to podcasts. Marketing school with neil patel and leveling up which combined have over forty eight million downloads to date. He's also frequently around the world of marketing and software as a service and he's recently publishing a book called leveling up. And i happen to tell you. Eric doesn't know this. But i've managed to get an inside person to give me the first copy of the book. Let me find it and there. It is whoa. They sent it to you know. Just kidding i made myself. I made included on a little book that i had. But that's what it's going to look like folks and it's called up and right now you can get chapter number one which i've been through and i'm really excited. So maybe you can just tell the audience a little bit about yourself and what they're gonna get from this book and what they could do now to get some of that in wednesday coming out all. So you know to your point couple of businesses. I kind of my go-to level at the world through marketing. So the business you mentioned but we also have any events business. We have an education business and we also invest other mar related sass and to podcasts. You mentioned i just love learning. I love teaching to articulate my thoughts. And i'm here on this podcast to talk about my worst investment. I think there's a there's a theme here. I'll try to tie everything together without me too. Wordy that's great. You know it's interesting. Because when i read through the first chapter and also i'm a listener of your podcast. Both of them. What i get from us that we come from a slightly different generation. Let's say i graduated from university and cal state long beach in nineteen eighty nine. And i didn't really. I wasn't in the gaming realm at the time and i wasn't when it started really hit. I wasn't that interested in it. So what i notice about about you. And i suspect that this is what people were going to get out of the book instead. You focus on some really short actionable things and it's feel like whether it's your podcasts. Or when i read your book. It is a lot about getting to that next level in little steps. And that's the way i was brought up. I was born with heavy big content redes- whole book and then tell me what you learn. Is that correct to think of it that way. Or how do you think how does your mind. Yeah it's so. I have this turtle in front of me and i got from puerto rico and i visited puerto rico for obvious reasons but it reminds me to slow down and to understand that you leveling up one percent everyday just trying to get a little better every single day. That's what it's all about because if you think of decades that be results in decades you'll be amazed by what you accomplished and you have short term hustle and long-term outlook. It's the same thing as investing at the end of the day. So i think it's You know. I'm glad that you noticed that we'll actually never thought of it that way but yeah that's exactly what it is. Yeah in fact before we get into the question. I just quote one thing out of the book and that is you say just because you have struggled in pass does not mean you're entitled anything to play at the next level you'll have a new set of struggles and that's something that really hit me because first of all at the age of fifty five. Life's supposed to be good and easy and all that no no. There's still struggles that you gotta face. That's the first thing. But the second thing that i took away from that this again this kind of incremental way that you look at things focus on the struggles in that one little level and there's always going to be those new struggles so that's a big thing that i've taken away from it. I'm looking forward to getting to the whole book someday. I'll have it by the way. Like i noticed a little warm buffet character in the back. I think that's what it is and so if you think about it. Eighty four point. So i think he's worth eighty five billion eighty. Four of that didn't come until after his sixty fifth birthday. So you talk about patients there. You go right there. An Apple Ad-pocalypse For Everyone?
"You know about those changes to ad tracking that apple is going to flip the switch on on ios. Soon you know how facebook has said this will hurt small businesses and also them quite directly. They've also admitted. Well as this ad pacalypse creeps ever closer. There is increasing chatter about how big this move might actually be for basically everyone let me hit some of the most recent takes for you i. What prompted me to lead with this. Today is that in their earnings last night. Snap had to warn that. The coming changes by apple to idea a could have a materially adverse effect on their business and it wasn't just snap either unity also came out and said idea changes will hit the pocketbooks of all mobile game developers quoting cnbc. Unity software said in its earnings report. That the changes will affect the way mobile game developers get and quote how they optimize lifetime. Customer value and quote although it's difficult to estimate our guidance assumes idea changes begin in the spring and will reduce revenue by thirty million dollars or three percent of revenue in two thousand twenty one. The company wrote in prepared remarks for its q. Four earnings report snap chief financial officer derek. Anderson said the apple changes would present a risk of interruption to demand after their implemented quote. It is not clear yet. What the longer term impact of those changes may be for the top line momentum of our business and this may not be clear until several months or more after the changes are implemented. He said quote so coincident with that. I know that this is long. Reads day but i encourage you to check out ben. Thompson's free article from strategically this week because it is the most sober and i opening look at this situation that i've seen anywhere thompson did a qna with mobile marketing analyst. Eric su firt and he had some interesting things to say about. Apple's true motivations and all of this and how these changes could ripple out to affect not only game developers but things like chiappa fi and the smaller businesses on that platform. I highly highly recommend. You read the whole thing. But i'm going to quote two parts for you first up. This is ben quote the thing that is always kind of weird to me about this. Is i think people underestimate and frankly i think apple underestimates the degree to which apple's growth in services revenue growth in. The app store is because of facebook and that facebook and apple have had this very symbiotic relationship. facebook has done. All of apple's dirty work and apple has harvested thirty percent on the back end just by virtue of owning the app store. The question i have is. Is it possible. That apple is shooting themselves in the foot here and their services revenue actually takes a meaningful hit because they've destroyed the engine driving it and they didn't even realize it because they actually didn't understand facebook's role in this and then this is eric's answer quote. I don't think so. I think apple very much recognizes the role that it plays in the app ecosystem which is the distribution engine for apps. And i think that's what apple doesn't like. I think apple sees that the app store has basically become irrelevant as a point of content discovery. It's basically this kind of frictional annoying moment between clicking an ad and installing an app almost all discovery happens via ads or word of mouth. And i think what apple is doing in this in recognizing the power that facebook has in terms of influencing which apps become big which apps are popular. How people are using their iphones. Essentially in recognizing that apple is trying to regain control of that because if apple cripples advertising which is doing mobile advertising this is all happening within the context of all this stuff. That's happening on the browser which we don't need to go down that rabbit hole but apple has been the instigator of all of that too if apple cripples mobile advertising than the app store becomes the primary discovery point for apps again and apple decides how people use our iphones apple decides which are the most popular. And by the way. That's a position that apple used to occupy twenty twelve twenty. Thirteen apple was kingmaker. If you've got featured your company valuation might increase by one hundred million dollars it was really important to make that pilgrimage to apple. Go to cupertino and beg for featuring please feature as please give us the headline featuring because that would make such a big difference to our company then in that way apple got to influence. What kind of apps made and how you made them. So my sense here is that apple wants to regain that control and quote and then from further down in the piece. This is ben again. The great thing from google's perspective is they get to copy everything. Apple does which completely benefits them because apple wants to kill cookies. Google's like that's fine. We have the browser. We have the app store and we're justified in doing blatantly anti-competitive things because we're just copying apple. The apple. google duopoly is really ruling. Everything and this is eric's response. Yeah google silence on this issue has been really intriguing. Because i think they've got to feel like a little bit stuck. It's like well okay. We're going to slow copy apple on any privacy initiative. It does because we don't want to allow apple to create a competitive advantage around being seen as the privacy centric mobile platform but at the same time they run an ad network so day can't come out and demonize targeted advertising. Because well that's how they make some substantial portion of their money. Ben interjects here. They're being sued for antitrust. And this is so blatantly. Anti-competitive and eric responds right exactly. They've got a fine line to walk. And i think they've you to a very shrewd approach. Which just like you said. Kind of copy. What apple is doing but doing it in a way that is not a full manifestation of that and quote again read. The whole thing cannot recommend it highly enough are we all of us in the tech ecosystem facing an ad pacalypse
3 Simple Ways to Make Your Webinars More Engaging
"Welcome to another episode of Marketing School I'm Eric Su, and I'm Neil Patel and today we're GonNa talk about three simple ways to make your webinars more engaging. So we're in two thousand twenty right now and webinars are still a very effective way to get sales. You look at the people out there such as click funnels they see it's still use a ton of webinars. So again, webinars are basically could be like zoom meeting could you can use this offer like live storm or whatever but you're basically teach people get them to indoctrinate them a little bit and then closed them at the end so if you want. To start with number one, number one is asked people questions within your web, an arm and most people the they have these powerpoint presentations are going. They're doing a pitch that eventually selling but ask people questions throughout it because that'll also give you their objections and make sure you answer each of those objections within your wapner. Even if it's at the end in May, because not only will keep people on longer 'cause you're answering their questions, but you'll also get more sales from it too. Yeah. Number Two I. Guess this is the only one for me but I think this is the most important thing from my perspective is. During a Webinar to focus too much on teaching and because all I did was teach I gave them stuff to do. So maybe I did seven ways to do something but I seven. So you're immediately I'm going to go take some action after ideally what you do is you give them a couple of Aha moment. So maybe two or three all moments let me give you an example. So the consulting school program that we have where we teach people how to build an agency or service type of business for that one. Originally again, I had video, it was teaching people five things you should be doing that are different. To grow your consultancy. Now, what it is is I teach them to think strategically right. So what what am I saw moments was, oh, you should think of your agency not as a long term, it's going to be a big business but more. So for most people, you WANNA think of it as a launch pad business. So you take that drive the income for yourself to hundred, two, hundred, thousand dollars a year, and then make a casual business, and then you go invest and other things could you need to build your wealth that way? Right so it's a good launch pad business. So that was one of the Aha moments. And it's different perspectives from other people, and that's what makes it a little unique and people are like, oh. That sounds amazing and what we do is they're trying to close them. We try to drive them to a phone call and our conversion rates literally shot up after it qualified people quite a bit more to get on the phone call. So I would just say instead of trying to teach too much maybe teach a little bit maybe like ten twenty percent but the rest focus on how moments one, two, three, Aha moments that will really blow people's mind and then just tried to drive up to the next action and. Last but not least in a Webinar recommend that you have someone from your team or hire a contractor to help you and man the chat you won't be able to respond to everything. But if you're actually engaging with people and responding to the comments and the questions right when the come in, you're going to be much better off people stick around they engaged and increase your sales as well.
Marketing Trends We Are Excited About for Q4
"Walk onto another episode of Marketing School I'm Eric Su and I'm Neil Patel, and today we're GonNa talk about marketing trends that we are excited about for q four. So this is a little bit of a new experiment tweet at me Eric Oh sl you. If you think this is cool because Neil and I don't get a lot of time to talk about what we're actually excited about right. So there's a lot of stuff that's happening in the business world and in the marketing world. So we'll see how this goes. This might be a little longer than usual, but I'll start it off I. I mean Neil yesterday. Linked in just just launch stories and I'm super excited about that. 'cause I just post stories instagram all the time I screen shots of stuff up there, and what I'm finding now is that I'm seeing all these people that are relevant seo manager over here content lead over I'm like, Oh, my God I'm going to follow these people you know have talked at a click flow team and then we can do something there. Right but it's just it's a people are here to do business on linked I constantly see like who's relevant talk who want to keep in touch with right? Because there's a little message button over. There but on Instagram, not so much I'm not looking to do business on instagram. So I think Lincoln or Microsoft rather is super smart for doing this and I'm glad that they finally brought it up. Have you tried it yet? I haven't tried it. We have it on her list to try in the next month or so were slow some of that kind of stuff but we're going to try that out another trend that we're seeing as boysearch everyone knows that half the search is at least in the United States now are through voice search according to common core specifically say voice her voice commerce did you. Know over sixty percent of people in the United, states have these smart speaker type devices have made a purchase do boysearch according to crunch and according to a have you done that before though I have many times what did you buy? We buy like bottled water toilet paper tissues, household items man I've never done that before as crazy works really well with Alexa and according to Oh CNC their company that does research they're saying by twenty, twenty, forty, billion dollars is going to be spent on boysearch. That's ridiculous. Amount I know this tiny in the grand scheme of commerce, but that number's going to blow up and explode. Yeah, you don't like the other thing too. I'm just looking at. This is more of a business trump, but I kind of is a marketing trend do but there's a Casey, Newton? I believe his name he's one of the lead editors of the verge. He just left to start his own substance. So everyone starting substance right now, which is basically just you're starting to email newsletter. So when I spoke to Anthony yesterday, I think he's got about five thousand subscribers paying subscriber. So paying ten dollars fifty grand a month from his newsletter, which is. Not, bad at six hundred, grand a year and so whether it's paid newsletters or even paid podcast subscriptions, i. think that's going to become more and more of a trend because people are legit leaving their full time jobs as writers unders going off on their own. You Got Ben Thompson, that's doing that. So what are your thoughts on that? Do you know anyone that's doing it really well, I don't know anyone that's doing well, but I know it makes money look at a Gora. Yeah Oh, how much they do in review of Gore's billion plus dollar company in revenue go some arriving ago. What else you got connection that I have that we're seeing come up in the upcoming years is look when you think about marketing all get emails, a lot of US ignore. But there's a new trend that we're seeing in emails. Right even we ignore emails it's still generate so much money we all send out so many emails, there's company called Sam email that lets you make purchases within your emails. So imagine me sending you e mail regarding I a t shirt you can pick the size and actually checkout and by within the EAMONN never have to go to the website or right now they specialize in airlines you can actually adjust your seat and adjust your ticket and all that kind of stuff within the Eamon. You see like the seat map and you can click and upgrading all that kind of stuff. It's Kinda cool. That's awesome. Yeah. I mean when we think about this at the end of the day, I was buying stuff using my phone when I as I was traveling is just when there's apple pay I immediately select that because the friction there's there's a lot less friction, the experiences a lot better. So whatever way you can make it easier for people to get things done. That's GonNa do well, and then your total. addressable market for that is huge right because you're just trying to solve problems for of Swath of people, you're not even just solving for for niche problems anymore and I think the final thing all end with right now is well to me I, just kind of been observing an investing world right now if you go read bessemer memos just typing bvp memos, what's fascinating to me is how firm decided invest in Shop a fine the very beginning, and you see a lot of interesting trends around that at how off they were in terms of how big they thought the market size was for. This is not exactly a I guess a trend here's that people are writing a lot more than what I'm gaining a lot from these memos. So I guess my only thing I'm trying to point you in the direction of is. Do This If Your Facebook Ad Account Gets Banned or Suspended
"Welcome to another episode of Marketing School I'm Eric Su and I'm Neil Patel and today we're GonNa talk about what you need to do if your facebook ad account gets banned or suspended. So here's the funny thing. are at account but one we were primarily using for consulting school was suspended because they put us into the same category as the same bucket as the make money online people the Internet marketers that are selling scammy stuff. But I, don't even though we have creative ads, we don't really scam. So that's the funny thing and you don't sell make money. No no, ethnically. People. Yeah. You help people grow their business. You don't teach people how to make money from thin air. What did you do? Yeah. So I'm trying to think I'm going to give the practical answer and tell people what I did because I don't think is applicable to everyone. Will I start off with what you did and then give the practical because? You did. So we obviously, because I have single grain, which is an AD agency we have an address because we have an ad rep, we have an in there. So we managed let's call it seven footers plus ads Ben each month and Neil definitely does as well if not eight figures plus so the thing is because you are tied to your facebook ad manager, they have incentive to help you so if You are actively spending than I would just go straight to your ad manager, but the problem with that is it doesn't apply for every single person. So we're force enough to be able to do that, and they're actually moving us. They've actually created a new review process and we pass a first step were onto the second step now, and they've actually started to crack down a lot of accounts, which is why we Got Caught in the I guess glow damage, which is call it but that's the first part. So in terms of what I think people can do to protect against this is whenever you're starting to run accounts. Sam Evans actually has a video on youtube about this on how he has multiple facebook accounts. So if something happens to one, he's got another one ready to go and so when we got suspended we Had, make another account, and so we have another one running right now, which is actually performing better than the old one. So you want to diversify and make sure that you're covered because if your business completely relies on facebook against suspended like that, you are not only putting yourself on the line. You're putting people's jobs like people that work for you online as well. So you don't want to take on that risk. What's funny I usually is attacked hitting set on facebook. This happened to me years and years ago I think like six years ago I had issues have had any issues recently but yeah, the easiest thing to do and I know that most people don't like this is discredit new account new credit card new address you IP's logging with different Ip's and like when you do that you usually a good to go it's a little bit of a pain but it works yeah, I mean, you really have no choice. If you plan these platforms, they get to decide when the BANU or whatever. So you're kind of at their mercy. So know hopefully this is helpful
How to Write Perfect Cold Emails That Dont Get Ignored

I'm Eric Su and I'm Neil Patel and today we are going to be talking about how to write perfect cold emails that don't get ignored it. You just get cold email earlier neil I did someone was trying to tell me how it was something about helping the United States you know I live in the United States for anyone listening. Okay let me open it up and the guys like guy. I'm Dan you know I live in the united. States we need your help and pretty much long story short he tried to get me to link to one of his websites. I didn't respond to Dan. I was like this isn't really hoping the United States. This is more so helping you but I did up because it was just so creative. The other thing that I've found with creative subject lines is I short to the point does well, like sometimes Brian Deane will send emails would just. Be Site audit or Seo template or something like that. Those do well anything that's casual lower case like your friends would send you do well putting people's name in the subject line does well to what have you tested Yeah you. Looking at this email from Nathan Lot guy, he sends me this email and it says five hundred K. Twenty Twenty ytd. So that basically I'm like, okay he's probably talking about a business that maybe things I'm interested in. Right. So I'm like, okay I'm going to click on it. So to your point short sometimes it might be like we've talked about just putting the person's first name with a question mark that's been used quite a bit now. So a lot of things we. Talked about on this podcast will tend to get over US really quickly and you have to move onto the next thing. Let's see I'm doing a cold email and I'm trying to get a client. I might say three issues with your website, right? It's it's short. It's to the point and it's something that you know that they care about. So if I'm the CEO of the company reach out to me, you tell me there's problem with my website on my own God. I'm. GonNa. Do I'm at the very least I'm probably if I'm responsible CEO, I'm GonNa Ford that to whoever's responsible on the team, and that's actually longtime ago. Here's a better example Neil and I hit a Zingo when they're are thinking about getting into poker and we just think the email is that was we've grown a poker websites before and then we getting a call with on a call with like four or five of their executives unfortunately day ended up scrapping the program but. It just shows and this is at the time Neil and I were I think it was twenty, six, twenty seven still sitting out the cold email you gotta think about what people care about and go from there. Neil. You even talk about the cold email that you sent to someone that kind of got into like a issue, which is call it that way. Yes. So there was a billionaire who got into a issue bad press I literally send a cold email on like. You're. GonNa run into more trouble unless you do this like something generic like that in decline and then I broke down. How my company can help them with PR you end up hiring me but I got him to respond to the email and he's prying but I quickly got from it that he didn't WanNA spend any money. So I kinda stopped messaging him back. But in general short catchy subject lines do well and anything that is very relevant to the time or something that they're facing problems that they're having do extremely well, and you don't need to know the person like if I'm sending you a cold email to fifty one hundred people in a space and I know I'm an SEO and I'm trying to get him for s you're related stop. I know people always want more traffic like I m saying like, try this hack. Your traffic will just go through the roof. And just like something that simple and a lot of people end up opening it, and then you can have a conversation and get responses. The final thing I'll add from my side is that the body of your email just you only need a personalized ten to twenty percent of it, and then it's personalized. So you don't need to go that far but the personalization goes a long way 'cause anybody and I promise you anybody that has a decent brain will know but it's just a template, and so you got to figure out how you can make it look legit and by the way you WanNa make. #1 Marketing Skill That Will Get You Hired in 2021 (Hint: Not SEO or PPC)
"Welcome to another episode of Marketing School I'm Eric Su. And I'm Neil Patel and today we're going to be talking about the number one marking skill that will get you hired in twenty twenty one and it's not SEO PPC. So what is it Neil? The number one skill that will get you hired in twenty twenty one is going to be creativity and you're probably wondering how the heck is this a marketing skill while as Andrew, chanoine one said our marketing channels eventually, Goto Shit in other words. The. Channels out there they're going to cause people to compete get crowded with you and when you end up doing things like that, they just get expensive and their heart approves Roi from but it doesn't mean that you can't do well as a marketer. You just need to be creative. You know an Eric and I have talked about this. When people are digging UNITA Zach you need to get creative and do some of the opposite of stuff or tests new unique stuff. For example, when Russell Brunson wanted to grow his podcast he was giving away free MP three players installing his podcasts on there to really help boost his numbers. That's example. Of, getting super creative and the list goes on on like one thing that I'm trying to do right now is working on our commercial strip. So we're going to start running television ads throughout the united. States and we're GONNA skill it up and just really go hard and hit really hard and branding people are going to be like meal. Why would you run television as your digital marketing agency everyone in your space talks about how digital is better than television sure. But Television does a better chance at branding than digital does so like just doing new creative things when competition is not willing to that's how you win in the long run. And, one thing we looked at in the past is if you open up the facebook Ad Library you can see that Russell Brunson who neil just mentioned he runs a ton of new creatives he's creating new stuff all the time it's new ad creative and it's new offers under concert rotating because there's banner blindness and there's also offer blindness while People WanNa keep saying the same thing over and over. So the thing is too if you look at response rates in terms of your engagement rates and conversion rates and all that you know it all starts to decline. Once, you have something working. So you have to immediately start them work on the next one, and so I remember for our consulting school program where we show agencies, how to get more clients. Basically, the one thing we struggled with was creative everything was subpar to click the rates were all under one percent for the longest time once we started look thinking about, okay. How do we make better creative? The team got together and our click the rates over two percent, right. So one of the things we look at at the top of funnel metric is what is Our Click through rate first and then not cutting finals down to everything else your conversion are your CPA numbers and things like that. So creative is by far the number one thing and it's hard to find people that are creative right now it's for whatever reason if you work in tech usually if you're gonNA demand generation, they're hiring you to just run paid ads right and then you might have someone that does some email stuff but there aren't people that are really well rounded understand copywriting psychology which all ties in with creativity as well. Right so at the. End of the day, you have to practice the stuff we've talked about a lot of books recommend around copywriting around Seo, things like that but you gotta become more well rounded and when you becoming well rounded and creative keep in mind that just knowing ideas to tasks in knowing solutions isn't enough you gotta be able to execute on them because if you can't execute an implement them without very little help, you're not going to do well, and like the people who are creative and can move fast are the ones who tend to do extremely well in the marketing world. Yet the final ad that's been critical for us around that program that I was talking about is we do a daily stand up every single day and we talk about creatives. We talked about iterating very quickly because you can't just wait if you start waiting a week every time you do you're you're spending in a good chunk of money while at the end of the day, you're not going to be able. To iterating quickly enough, and that's going to cause your performance to to fall apart. So that's just a side thing that you might want to consider if you are looking to scale a campaign. How to Get Clients in Today's Environment
"Welcome to another episode of Marketing School? I'm Eric Su and I'm Neil Patel and today we are going to talk about how to get clients in today's environment. So when Neil and I are talking about clients in this context, we could mean clients for your agency. We can mean clients for just any type of services business in general, right? So could be real estate clients as well. So we do know that today's environment is tougher. It's different dependent on your industry as well. So for seven histories maybe if you're hospitality, we might be a little tougher but you we still wanNA talk about overall. What we think is effective in terms of getting clients today. I still use the same approach and I know we talked about this impasse episodes in which. I just go out there and you can either go like virtual networking events, but the biggest and the easiest way that I've been getting customers still is I go look for recently funded companies in my space figure out how I can help them my email them all the things I would do I lay it all out in such a way step-by-step way where they can just do it without me but a portion of them descend hiring you and I know that sounds a little bit crazy but I've just found that to work. So well over the years I, continue just do that. Yup and another thing that similar to what Neil is saying is, yes you can definitely use crunch basie what's going on there but there is a service died. One of my buddies recommended predict leads dot Com and they will actually show you when this is happening actively what's the new CMO's joins a company or whatever, and I'm not sure how much it is exactly but you can check that out whatever gives you an edge. M. dot com, and they're actually doing very well as a company right now but you can basically just make quick videos for people to just saying, Hey, look I spotted these things they get a sense of your personality in the video and you're doing a screen share your face is showing, and so they'll get a sense of whether they want to get to know you more or not or if they think you're full of it and here's the beauty of. It. If they think you're full of it while that's an opportunity for you to improve, you can constantly iterating. So if I'm coming out of college right now, I might not be good on video I might not be polished with the way I'm talking but I'm just gonNA keep getting more and more reps and I'm GonNa get better over time neal was never good at speaking when he started I was never good at speaking when I first started we've gotten better we're not like world class number one in the world, but that's What it takes us if you want to find clients that way it should work well, and then like Neil mention, there's a lot of virtual events going on right now, which are tied in when there's a virtual networking. So just use our event as an example, the growth accelerator. Well, we have virtual networking like RPG and where Neil might go stand somewhere everyone crowds around him and I might go stand somewhere but we have different groups but you know we're building that relationship and more than anything. I think some people might. Say. Oh you know you should go look at other agencies and partner up with them. It's like, no. I've tried that in the past you try doing that it's GonNa take you forever does set of the partnership and that you really your expectations are not going to be met because you'd expect an influx of leads coming in generally, it does not work out that way. So that's no. You need the results right now to go get the results right now you can't rely on someone else selling for you gotta go, Sell Yourself. Yep. So I mean, you know Aaron Ross from predictable revenue says you WANNA. In this case, your sniping your leads, right you're targeting who you want your sniping and what I would say is figure out how much revenue drive and how many clients that is per month and then figure out how much outreach that is for you per day because that's the one thing you can control, which is your outreach every day,
7 Laws of Podcasting
"Welcome to another episode of Marketing School I'm Eric Su and I'm the orbital and today we are going to be talking about the seven laws of podcasting. So Neil that I've been podcasting for about been four years now a little over four years for marketing longer if you think about your growth everywhere yeah. Longer will leveling off for for seven years on that one. So it's been a long time. So seven years. For seven laws. Right. But I guess I'll kick it off I. so before I could get off meal and I did it no this podcast was going to go and we've realized that we caught onto a trend that is still taking off right now and podcasting is just going to get bigger and bigger last year the number was about seven hundred, thousand podcast in the world has probably got a lot bigger since. Then, and there's a lot of advertising dollars going into podcasting Joe, Rogan's podcast. They did a deal as spotify for over one hundred, million dollars. So it's just going to continue to be good times. It's a nice medium for people and you know the first law will say about podcasting is you know you've got to be consistent and share story around that my leveling up podcast for the first year only nine dollars. A day off of their first year after second year only thirty downloads a day, and then from there, it started compound, and then that led to that podcast is still there and now we have the mark podcast but we've been very consistent with it on the same lesson that goes over to if you're doing youtube if you're doing blogging if you're doing any type of content at all, it just it just consistency. Number two, you need half quantity the more quantity you have the more episodes you have the more listens yoga time it really does stacking compound. So don't just think that you're GONNA do well, even if you're consistent and you're pretty senior episodes every quarter or even weekly, you're not gonNA do as well as if you just did a daily with people like us John Lee Dumas, there's quite a few players who just Do daily a is more work, but you get the listens in the Dallas away quicker if you just quit way more quantity number three. So if you look at the Joe Rogan's of the world when he does video podcast, it actually gets chopped up into a lot of different pieces. So we've often talked about Omni channel and hasn't changed air if you do a video podcast like we're doing right now and you. Can make a bunch of different pieces. One sixty minute long form interview can become six mini pieces and you can put it onto youtube. You can put onto podcast whilst now you have thirteen pieces right there and then you can make little micro content for social. There's just a lot that you can do chopping things up and you can use a service like repurpose house dot io, the adding Babbit two, hundred, fifty. Dollars a month find on a five, hundred, dollar a month plan. Eventually, you can have your own team, do it for you, but that's a good way to get started with repurposing number four. You GotTa do Keyword Research. It doesn't matter what you end up talking about. If you don't have the right keywords with the title of your podcast and your descriptions, you won't get as many listens in Dallas. So Do Keyword Research. Number five seems like a dust and but still a lot of people fail in this. I, remember back in the day I was using Blue Yeti microphone and the problem with that one was I plugged it into my USB port. What you should be doing is you should be using a mixer so both nearly have a mixer read one called focus right and you can use focus right and then we both have higher pr forty microphones and so these are high quality microphones route four, hundred dollars from the Mike and the mixer. I believes anywhere from one hundred, one, hundred, fifty dollars or so you don't need a start with anything crazy but. If, you're going to be using a blue Yeti, which one hundred dollars still make sure you have a mixer because you sound a lot better and a very important thing is the quality of your sound 'cause when Neil I used to record next each other when we first started this ambiguous when we had to turn off the air conditioner, it would get really hot but also more importantly, it was really echoey and done a terrible because we're right next to each other and people said, oh you guys sound like you're recording from the bathroom Blah Blah Blah and we started getting bad rating from it it just it's not a good user experience. Number six aspirations. If you don't ask for ratings, you won't climb the charts and you won't get as many new listeners and downloads. So at the end of each podcast, there's nothing wrong with asking for ratings. Yeah and on top of that, if you're GONNA ask for the ratings, we haven't done the best job of this incentivizing people to put a rating. You'll probably get a lot more exotic just neil haven't done a good job about it number. Seven, you gotTa know your numbers. You can use look at the apple podcasts analytics look at spotify analytics as we look at where retention is and you can see retention will tell you what episode you should be doing more of. So for example, what we do episodes Seo retention might be ninety, five percent but if we start talking about how we like to plant tomatoes than our retention might be forty percent or so so it might not do as. Well, the other thing too is when we use chargeable chart able, that's how you spell it. They will show you your thirty day performance or your seven day performance for new content that you have coming out. So now I've been looking at them like, oh, well, people really latch on what we talk about certain things and they just they totally get disinterested when we talk about other things such as I don't know whether I'm just making things up. So, use chargeable has a lot of different features. It's probably the most complete podcast analytics tool out there were not affiliated and we just use the free version, but she's been really good for us.
7 Business Lessons From Instagram Launching 'Reels'

So instagram as this recording there still a, there's this battle against Tiktok the even the US is battling Tiktok while trying to get in the cell and so facebook sees tiktok as a existential threat. So they launched their tiktok competitor called reels and we just WanNa talk about a couple of business lessons that we learned watching Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, which owns instagram over the year. So I'll start with number one number one is you know don't be afraid to coffee I mean you know they copied stories from snapchat and other copying reels. Actually not illegal to do. So people actually think maybe it's in bad taste but some people will talk trash to meals. People talk trash to me saying Oh. You know we're copping copying copying but. Even. The biggest companies in the world they iterating on things that happened to be working well, and then they move on. Yeah number two is don't expect every launch a success sometimes facebook does launches and they do well and sometimes they don't do well. But the one thing that's for sure is persistent and they keep trying new things. So whenever you launch something new and it doesn't go well, don't get discouraged just keep at it keep tweaking, keep experimenting, keep testing and keep launching because some things will be a massive hit and some things will. Number three is around if you're going to launch something, you launch it with fanfare, and so they launched it with fanfare and they announced it across channels. But also what happens is, for example, when live launched or when stories launched, they favored the stories even even an instagram right now, our facebook when you go live, they still favor you because it's engaging people on the platform. You know if you're going to launch something, make sure that you are marketing correctly you're promoting where you can and you're making the most of the distribution that you have and face because ton of distribution across its channels. So that is number three. Number Four. When you're doing a launch, you need to end up creating buzz around it before you launch, and after if you just release something and you launch it and it's a soft launch, it doesn't do well when facebook does launches, they tried to create as much noise as possible. Another player to look at when it comes to launches including noise is apple. So falling either of them is tragic to create that buzz. When you create that buzz is much more likely to go off as a hidden, and then it's going to cause more sales, conversions usage whatever the metric you're optimize for. Number five if you think about it reels launched and there's this tiktok battle going on but keep in mind to mark Zuckerberg is a really good businessman he he's not look he he helped code facebook but at the end of the day, a lot of people respect for how good he is at at business and what he did was he went to Washington I talked about how Tiktok is national security threat. Who knows if it is it isn't but the fact that matters got the crossers on Tiktok. Now there's a lot more scrutiny and boom they come out with this deal's launch. And if you can't build it crushes, that would be number six. So technically, I would say if you can't build the crush it or buy it. So if Mark Zuckerberg see something that's blowing up talk facebook is an atrocity notre by if they can't buy, they try to copy it everywhere if they can't copy it, they tried to crush just like that stop hey tiktok should end up being banned it's a really smart strategy. The other thing that you'll notice that they end up doing too is if they're going against competitor just copy. The featured on Instagram, the copy that feature on Instagram facebook what's up the everywhere? So you're much more likely to use their ecosystem versus someone else and is a very clever approach to keep people there versus going to the competition. Yeah. Number seven similar to what Neil said a little earlier. But you know if you've got a if you create something, you not only have to kill your babies if they don't work but you have to kill them pretty quickly and so face because launch a lot of different things previously that didn't work out. And they were like, they would come out and then you would see him just disappeared really quickly. Right. So you have to be willing to be unemotional just because you put in a lot of engineering resource a low costs around it and it you did all this marketing fanfare it it doesn't mean that it should stay around because you put know no sunk cost, right that's fallacy, and so you
How to Generate Content Ideas For Long Form Articles
"Welcome to another episode of marketing. School. I'm Eric Su and I'm meal and today we are going to talk about how to generate content ideas for long form articles but first and foremost. Why should people be thinking about long form articles? People are like blogging his dead S. US to competitive long form articles. They get attendance traffic. Don't believe me just look a wikipedia. My blog is a living example of it if it works in the SEO space, your blog is a living example of it works in Seo based it's not dead it's competitive, but it doesn't mean it said it's like saying instagram is dead. Your reach may not be as good as what it used to be, but it doesn't mean it's dead. Right so all start this off. I talked about what we didn't talk about back Linkohr's another good example of this Brian Diener, our mutual friend Great Seo blog, and he partnered up with some other people to create a called exploding topics. So you can get us exploding topics depends on the niche that you're in, but it shows what topics are exploding literally exploiting topics. You could combine that with Google trends as well but that's going to give you some content ideas and the other thing I like to use is if I have an idea. Let's say I wanNA write something on content marketing while I can just use the auto complete feature in Google and I'm GonNa get a lot of ideas and I can see what people are searching for recently. So I just gave you three different tools three different techniques you can use out the gate of a bunch of other ones marinating but Neil, what do you have? So we have a really simple process for coming up with long form content. You can use address for this or you can use uber suggests into it for Free I. Tend to put in a competitor. You are all on. I'll go to my top ten competitors put into the euro click on the top pages report in Uber suggests and it'll show me all their top pages. They get the most traffic from Google a click on do all under their estimated visits or keywords show me all the key words that the use within the page that the ranking core, and then what I do is I go to their page right a better version of it make sure to include some of those words that are. Relevant and I also look at who links to them because Uber says in that top page report shows you who links each of those pages wants a better version using Brian Deane skyscraper technique. I had all the people that linked to my competition pretty much begged for links and we just rinse and repeat that process. We just tried to do a shift on the content that way and it works like if you crank attended those pages out the next month or two, we get a lot of nobody you're from now your traffic should explode. Right, and if you're fortunate enough to have a team, what you can do is you can have a brainstorming session. What that means is you can simply open a such world doing video meetings right now you can just open google dot and then have each person gets one dedicated page and they can just start. IDEA. So let's say, Hey, guys, let's come up with. You know what do we think are good long long-form topics for content marketing what's been the next five or ten minutes just cranking out ideas and you'll find even five minutes. So people come up with five to ten ideas and you can pick maybe the top three or so and that's going to help guide you for the future. So Neil techniques certainly that worked really well. But if you're fortunate enough to have a team, what you can do then is utilized team but also the beauty of that is you can in many cases, look forward to because. If you're doing a lot of keyword research oftentimes you're looking backwards, but sometimes you can capitalize on their trend and in jump on it and then start to upgrade not content over and over again because we've talked about the importance of upgrading content especially because the search engine result pages are so much more competitive today neil yet there's too many choices if you don't update, you're pretty much screwed at least in the long run.
How We've Been using Community's SMS As Another Marketing Channel
"Welcome to another episode of Marketing School I'm Eric. Su and I'm tall and today we're going to be talking about how we've been using community. That's community DOT COM were you've been using their SMS features as another marketing channel. So Neil, do you WANNA kick it off by explaining what community DOT COM is and I'll talk about what we've been doing. Sure. So if you listen to our podcast for awhile, you'll notice that the end of some episodes or even at the beginning of some episodes will tell you hey, Texas, and we'll give out a number of what's number. Is Three One oh, three, four, nine, three, seven, eight, five. and. I recommend that you Texas at this number. So you can get a feel of how it is but community is application that allows you to have text based communication with people thinking about how you do email messaging. You can do Massimo messaging you can personalize emails think of all those feeds looped in together in a from called community helps you personalize things and helps you automate things as well and that have your own phone number versus people texting like a short coder like that. So it makes it more personal than let's say someone doing a vote for American idol. Yep We've been using community for maybe let's call it a month or month and a half, and it's been great because we have a small group of people about two, hundred, fifty people and the list continues to get bigger. But when we're about to record, let's were recording today it's a it's a Friday what will do is we will text a group saying, Hey, what are your biggest marketing struggles right now or what are your biggest business challenges and a bunch of topics will flow through and I've actually dropped a couple of topics in here and so that actually makes our lives a lot easier. So a great for that plus people are actually seeing their topics live. As well, but the other thing we're doing to is were announcing when we're doing things because if we're trying to create a community telling people that, hey, we're going to be doing this live right now you guys can join us or let's say a meal both in La we say, Hey, you know we're going to be doing the meet up. You know it's going to be on us. There'd be doing the happy hour and everyone can join on. That's in the area that's core because it it fosters that impersonal communication. So there's a lot of different ways to use community but just think. Of It. This way your open rates when it comes to text messaging, I opened probably nine percent of texts that are sent to me. Your open rates are a lot higher and the the click rate has while I'm looking at our stats. You know when we send a link, it's like forty to fifty percent clicks rate. So the engagement is very high right now and usually when a when there's a hot new channel, this engagement rates are really high and I think more and more people are going to use it. I just don't get regulator not because I was talking to a body. It'll probably get regulators is the question of what I've already seen things circling around about regulations happening with SMS Yarka and I believe it because businesses aren't using like crazy right now but that will definitely change within a few years and then you're GonNa see all these rules and regulations of privacy concerns. It's like telemarketing. It's still hard core. Now, they still haven't managed to crack the code on that but for the time being there's a lot of different apps you can use out there community dot com one that that we use I believe they're investors are like Ashton Kutcher diddy in in in these people did tell you about the spam starting to get now on my iphone? No. There's facetime, right? Yeah. And the sad part is my email and phone number out there all over the web right 'cause like on social profile for so many years the amount of calls they get a days ridiculous on average publica. Forty fifty calls on any given day literally forty fifty calls from people I don't know and this is non like telemarketers is like people because it's in your signature everywhere right? Signature as well. That was like a million emails. Email, million people like you're GONNA get messages. But now, I'm starting to get facetime spam and you can see people just trying to face him in and like sometimes you can see like the email address has the name of based have instead of like a phone number, some really dating sites and I'm like I don't even know why just ignore it because I'm like I'm married I, have a wife I'm happy and like I know people are just trying to spam and scammy for money or whatever it may be but there's behavior here. For everyone just wants to make money. Yes. short-term thinking. But anyway guys, we think it's great for right now I think just use it in by the way the what the one thing I'll say about how we use to his were pretty non spammy. We send maybe one message awake and that's it. So we don't to send multiple messages. We just say, Hey, we're doing this and we'll say reply if you actually want the link and then we just check a bunch of. People that want to link, and we'll just send them the link and that's something that can be delegated to. If you happen to have assistance on your team, you could just do that and community has a dashboard that you can be using to. So Neil, I can give ask the Neil and he can give access to other people. So it's it's pretty cool in that respect.
Tools To Help With Instagram Growth

So I will start with number one and this is what I've mentioned. Once already tensor social and there's a lot of other influence or tools but tensor social is it's cool because let's say I, want to find people that are it allows me to filter and. Search. For people that I think are most relevant to me. So let's say I wanNA find only verified accounts that have contact information that are in the marketing nation. I can actually do that or I can do a profile on Neil's account of Neil. Neil has a lot of marketers following I can see which influential people are following him, and maybe I can reach out to those people right. So the whole idea here is We often talk about finding email addresses, finding contact information to reach out to people to get things done. A lot of people are hanging out on instagram. So this is just another way to push your your initiatives. Ford. If you're people are actually hanging out on. INSTAGRAM Another thing that I like doing is I use Canada because one way I've found to grow your in grandfathering extinct carousels you to see him on Eric Nice proposal. They can keep clicking next next next next next, and it creates a ton engagement and I bet you they're tracking how many people are swiping which them to show your content increase the reach way more. So but you can use cabinet do for you don't have to pay designer then. I like using in grammar that's I N. G. R. A. M. E. R. I think felt right Tad's matter when you're posting on instagram. So what happens is they'll show, let's say I want to write something on. My continents about marketing while it's GonNa show me the most popular tags is going to show me rare tags and also think there's a medium level two and then you can sort out the majority of them. Are you wanna find are the rare tags and the medium? Tanzania put some popular ones in there and that's the idea and sometimes when we've used in the past, we have had over sixty to seventy percent of people discover. A piece of content and that's a lot and so tabs work and go ahead and use of the White House. Grammar. Another team that you can doing is using social blade I use social blade to spy on my competition look at growth not tell you how many followers are getting and how many how often they're posting content and you can start looking for correlations of me like Oh, they posted this content this day and their follow count jump through the roof. So you can start looking at what was the context that they're posting that's getting into the most followers in will give you ideas of the type of content you should be posting on your profile to get more followers more reach. Yup So one free toy you can use facebook creator studio. What's great about it is you can schedule I g TV posts an instagram posts ahead of time, and that's they'll show you analytics as well. It just really convenient us sure there's other tools out there like sprout social send a ball. There's a lot of these other social tools but facebook creator studio does make things pretty easy and It also allows you to post to facebook and also believe allows you to boost those posts as well. Another thing that you WANNA do out facebook's Ad Library because if you're trying to run ads on Instagram, it can give you some inspiration and that's very important because some of the best ways to grow your profile is to advertising whether we like it or not, but check out as well.
The Unemployment Stimulus Is Making It Hard To Hire Employees - Here's What To Do

And I'm meal and today we're going to be talking about the unemployment stimulus, making it harder to hire employees and what to do about it. So before I go to kneel around the world right now, we're really just talking about what we're experiencing the United States because that's the context that we understand a couple of months ago a six hundred dollars a week unemployment stimulus was added on top of the state benefits as well. So federally you got six. Hundred. Bucks. So what ended up happening was created this disincentive for people that were started making more money from that to go back to work. So actually made it harder to hire employees. No, we're talking these could be cooks. These can be people that are, let's say hostesses as well or a hosts. So a lot of different roles people don't feel like going back to work right now, and so what are you end up doing about it that the question? Yet and around the world other countries have their own versions of this as well. So the big thing that we're looking at is look if people are looking to go back to work and they want that free money does the right people that you want to hire the usually if someone really loves what they're doing, they're more likely to go and do it whether it is a stimulus check or not. The thing that I look at I don't know about you is typically when I'm hiring I'm looking for people. Have done before and if you can offer him something that's worthwhile because they've done it before they're successful at it, they're gonNA make way more money than they will from the stimulus checks though they're much more likely to accept it. Yeah. I. Think those of you that listen to this you're interested in marketing I. Think One thing about marketing is it's about storytelling to what's in it for them for the long term besides the money right now the short term, the short term stuff let's say they're interning on they. Happened to me making less than what they beginning from stimulus while what you say is, Hey, look coming out of this if you actually do a good job if you're able to do this and this, we're happy to promote you to this level and plus you're going to get these benefits and you're going to get these it'll be learning so much right. So what you end up doing is you stack a lot of these benefits and it should become a no brainer to them and if they don't WanNa do. It and they're like, no, I really need the money right now they're not someone you wanna work with long-term because they're too short term focused. So you're better off losing those people anyway and you're better off strengthening your company based on people that Actually WanNa work with you for long term. So should be based on page they should be chasing the opportunity and not so much short term cash. It's also ethics as well. If people are willing to take a job because they want that quick stimulus check and do nothing. That as unethical because that's taking money from others who are more in need. Yeah, and the other thing I'll add to is it's also not very intelligent again. So I talked about short term earlier, and if you talked about thinking like an investor in a in a past episode but someone that thinks like an investor thinks long-term think about the company do you think about the people that are working with I remember early days when I was working at? I think I was working at circuit city. Everyone's in it for themselves right? Everybody like the Tech Support Guy you know best buy had their they're declawed ours is called like fire daughter something. Yeah Fire Dog. Yeah I mean it's I didn't feel like I got a lot of I didn't feel like I was aligned with the mission. So all the things we talk about mission vision values culture, and all you have to marketers talking about this these are things that we didn't care about before you realize these are the things that actually matter Neil,
Should You Boost Your Ads or Just Use the Ad Manager?

Welcome to another episode of Marketing School I'm Eric Su, and I'm Neil Patel and today we're GonNa talk about if you should be boosting your ads or just using the ad manager but I I think we should define Neil what does boosting ads or the ad manager mean on I'll start with boosting ads. So boosting ads is a button for facebook specifically and other platforms have added a very easy way to promote content. But in the past you'd have to go into ads. Manager Find Your peace maybe you're on their page to find what you want to promote, and they don't take a long time to start promoting it. Now, you can just hit a button. I'll call it easy mode for promoting her stuff and that's boosting odds. But when it comes to using ad manager but I was talking about earlier, you actually have to go into a separate section inside of facebook ads, and then you have to go into the AD managers and if you don't. Know how to use it it can actually be daunting. Let's say your small business owner. There is a little bit of a learning curve there. So to me boosting ads initially super simple to do ads manager is a little more complex question is which one should you be doing and I think I'll started off by saying look if you are a small business owner and you don't have a lot of time to learn things right now and you don't have the resources to. Hire someone full time for this just use boosts and boost around. Let's say I'm a bakery shop owner and I deliver like cakes you. Okay. So I would just boost around my area and then boost coupons things that I can do is try to drive people to be aware of Mike Cakes that you can order on delivery. Neil I would recommend is like Eric mentioned. If you have time, you can get Wimmer Granular ads manager and you get more advanced, which allows you tend. To get a better Roi while I tell people is most people aren't going to have the time their knees boost feature. When you click the boost feature, don't just accept the boost you need to adjust the settings and then go from there. So with the boost feature, you can end up selecting things like your region, your budgets and all these little settings and I would recommend that you go through them before you just click except I think a really smart thing you can. Do I started doing this recently is you know we are pumping out a lot of content like this, for example, and so you know whatever content I tend to like on market to my teams. Hey, let's go ahead and boost this and here's the framework. The framework is let's say we do a video might say, let's put ten dollars a day to it for the next three days. So that ends up being three hundred dollars. You can spend a dollar a day. Okay. So It can be thirty dollars but I spending ten dollars a day on it, and we only boosted to our middle of the funnel pages. So people that are perhaps visiting our case study pages or people that are visiting our services pages or have filled out a consultation for trailing for something, we're trying to get the more doctrinaire in our world. So let's say they don't end up converting but then for the next three days are getting all this content around marketing score leveling up. And for that money spent that actually does drive more leads and we've seen an uptick in Leeds as so oftentimes, you'll hear from people. Oh, I see videos everywhere or I listen to your podcast all the time. Right. You're trying to drive that type of we talk about being everywhere we talk about being on channel. This is an easy way to do it, and so I like boosting in that respect. Now for talking about conversion related things, you'd probably have to go down her. Dude I have barely ever seen conversions from boosting no matter what industry the point Neal's making to, as you should be aiming for reach and you want people to watch your stuff and
How to Prevent Problems in Your Business Before They Happen

So in the early days of business, correct me if I'm wrong Neil I think for most people it's you're finding that you are constantly putting out fires you're dealing with the important and urgent. Now, the problem with that cycle is that more fires will pop up and just continue putting. them out and you never get to solve what is actually urgent or not urgent but important, and these are the long-term foundational things that will help the business and a couple episodes going and the odd turn it over to you knew you were actually just mentioning something about the number one way to scale your marketing. So I think that actually applies here is while they want to kind of go over that again. Yes. So we talked about the number one. Way To scale your marketing we broke down a lot of is process oriented as you're doing things that worked out really well create processes from sin. The way anyone can take him over and continuing going forward with it and scale it up for the things that don't work well document. Why didn't it work hypothesis numbers data backing everything up so that way people know hey, for all the towns that are working event, you'll have a ton of processes that people. Can take over and continue scallop for the stuff that's not working. When they're try new experiments, they can use the data on. Hey, why did this thing work in the past? Would we learn from that as for the stuff that worked? Hey, what were the processes what worked on that and how we can we apply those to these new towns were considering going after? Yes I'm GonNa get specific with these processes so if you are looking for every single companies have Operating System. Once you have a couple of employs you need to be thinking about can I be using traction, which is the entrepreneurs operating system or can be scaling up which is a when you're when you're falling traction. Make sure you by the right traction book. There's two of them don't buy the wrong one. I've had too many people that worked with by the wrong. Oh Yeah. So that's a good point. Gino Wakeman is the author of of this traction. And Scaling Up is from Verne Harnish, who is the founder of Yo entrepreneurs organization, and there's a lot of these different types of operating systems. But these are just two books that I've read but these will teach you how to set a cadence for your company each week. So week, let's say your leadership team you get together you talk about a scorecard that you're going through a real quick. You're talking about you know different rocks or objectives and key results that. You may have set and you are then going to spend a lot of time solving issues, right so maybe sixty minutes of the time, it's ninety minute meeting is ideas identified, discuss and solve, and you can do that. Once to get certain size, you might grow pass this Eos operating system and start to move scaling up or you might create your own version of it right now, the whole idea here is that yarn effect talking about these long term issues And putting a solution in place so you can actually solve that problem and not let it happen again I think in these books as while they also will give you a cadence for what is your quarterly planning every ninety days you do a quarterly planning, what is your annual planning look like as well? Also, there's a book called the three Hag way. So that's a three year planning. Okay, and then you have a be hag which was attended twenty five year. Outlook Right. So you have all these. Right and I think it's also really important. Every quarter what you're trying to do is you ask yourself, Hey, guys, what should we start doing? What should we stop doing and what should we keep doing right? So you have all of these systems in place denise point processes important process will help you scale. You have all these systems in place where hopefully anybody can run the business. Right? Let's say to see you maybe quits leaves whatever or get sick or whatever. You can just plug someone and you're good to go. Right you WANNA make your business defensible and that's what a real businesses otherwise at the end of date once the true business value. There Neil and another thing that you can end up doing to prevent problems I learned this from watching a lot of interviews online and funny enough walking the interviews is kind of similar to the advice that I got from watching Egon must and Elon Musk ended up saying look there's so many CEO's over the years business concepts principles haven't really changed too much. So there's a lot of books on tape of all these successful CEOS from like the IBM CEO to muster whatever it may be people talking about that airs mistakes they made read from, learn them and try to avoid the mistakes that they break down because he's concepts and principles are very similar. and. The moment that you start making the same ones that other people used to make you're going to not succeed really right. But if you avoid making mistakes that other great people have made before you, you're much more likely to succeed because although be left to the stuff that you should be doing. That's a really good point I think learning from CEO interviews or even joining peer groups like you know entrepreneurs organization or wipe yo or visages a lot of these different peer groups that are out there I know for me when I was about twenty seven when I took over single grain, there's a lot that I didn't know and you don't know what you don't know and. These people will guide you because they've been there before you know they'll talk about things that you would have never

So I can kick it off I just to give you an idea of what the template looks like and then we can kind of go back and forth if you think about the old way of doing mark disposals by guy named David Lewis, the old way was a lot of. Outbound marketing right album marketing could be maybe you're posting something on a billboard, for example, right and so you know outbound marketing is that's one thing. The other one is thinking about sales owning the buying process right so that was the past right sales like marketing is marketing, but you know sales sales and. You know. The other thing I'll I'll say here is sales and marketing in the old ways they were more focused on alignment, and so now if you think about it, they're more focused on being integrated. So it's not just US versus you type of thing, but they're you're actually together as one. So that's an example then versus now of the thing that's big to before there wasn't tons of channels. Now, there's a lot of channels you could do TV, print, radio billboards desert mentioned but now there's so many channels like even online. There are facebook youtube linked. In Red Pinterest snapchat TIKTOK GOOGLE ADS Tebboula out brain like the amount of places that you can go in the networks in the inventory that each people control is drastically different and for that reason, just marking has become now Omni channel whereas a marketer. If you can't figure out to wear multiple hats, you're not gonNA do well in the long run it doesn't mean you have to be great at everything you know but more. So even if you're really good at one thing, one channel, that's fine too. But if you really want to scale and be that executive. You gotta understand multiple hats and how to run a team that can leverage all of them instead of one of them because you can no longer build a company just a one channel like when you used to facebook was built off the email if I go and create another copycat facebook that's better and I just did it won't work look at Tiktok. They blitzed the whole web everywhere and offline to grow their popularity quickly they couldn't just use it invite slow from that facebook used. To grow I think the other thing I would add is back in the day marketing would-be targeting individuals. Now, what it is, now as a lot of people say account based marketing, what you're targeting in the account. So if I'm targeting Coca Cola I used to maybe just picked the VP of Marketing Coca Cola. Now, I might pick the entire marketing team or maybe even the broader team around coca-cola some targeting the entire count and eventually hope is that you know we'll get a hold of. Somebody and be able to hit them up and then utilize things such as dynamic retargeting to constantly be top of mind for these people and Neil just mentioned earlier being on the channel right 'cause you know maybe the rule of seven is is maybe the rule fourteen. Now, right people need to see a lot more to take an action and I truly believe that you know the people that do branding. Well, we're kind of all over the place when they're aiming for reach. That's how. They're gonNA drive long-term success in general look if you WANNA. Do well, try to understand all the channels understand how they play nice together and understand how in the organization everyone can move and think about sales and marketing because it's all intertwined and that's how concentrate growth hacking came about and if you do that I, think you're going to be much better off you're going to have to know fine tuning your processes you're GonNa, find your workflows but the concepts are still the same in which. The more people you get more eyeballs as long as it's converting the better off you are, and the final thing I'll add from my side is that you have to understand technology as a modern marketer back in the day maybe not so much. But if you look at how things are being done online right now, there's a lot of personalization going on right now you have a lot of data coming through your website. You might be enriching that

But the first tool is called I think it's a terrible name Um. It's M H M m DOT APP if you want to get access to it, I believe it's invite only right now and you can requested an invite but this is from the creator of evernote. and. Thinking about it this way right now, we're all hanging out on video calls all day, and you need a way to stand out. It's really good presentation APP at first like why don't even need this and I started using it more like there's a lot of cool things that can make myself smaller to put myself if I want to emphasize something on slide I, put my face right next to it. I can make myself fade away and so you know I. Think it's great like fading away right now but you can go check it out. IT IS A. Open to apply I think it's free to use at the moment and so it's an open Beta or private. Beta and for anybody that does a ton of calls on Google or zoom try to. Number two checkout flow, and they have a content decay to a within their. What's interesting about this is you're gonNA write content most your old constable start losing traffic over time. If you use the continent decay tool, it'll tell you which one of those are losing traffic's. He can go in some update them, and then that way you start getting more and more traffic is to update content that's losing traffic first versus focusing on updating content s naturally doing well in keeps going up. Call number three is co schedule I. Think there's a lot of scheduling tools out there that you can use but Cole schedule Co schedule that see, oh, schedule it had stood out to me over the years because it just makes life easier especially continue need to coordinate your efforts they have done pretty well as a company so would recommend them. Number four is polly laying. So if you have a blog, the easiest way to grow your traffic and shine is to translate into multiple languages in polling helps you do that. It's a wordpress plugin. Slash tool allows you to go after multiple regions at once. All right number five, this is not exactly a content tool I mean, it's more of a workflow automation tool of Zappia, but think of it this way when you're creating new content. You can have say we do this podcast. Well, when podcast comes out because our our podcast s feed, we can automatically push to Google spreadsheet. So we have all of our podcast just showing up in their we could also push it into. We can push to wordpress along push an email out if you want, we can set up all these automations and if we think about content as game I, mean there's a lot of moving parts that's the game that you're playing and so it's hard to manage all of it. So it's better to automate a lot of the the mundane tasks that you're working on. Number six restrain if you are going to create

I'm Eric Su and I'm Neil Patel and today work at a talk about how well Neil I handle our marketing to do list so neil how does it work for you my simplest thing is I look at what is the lowest hanging fruit in who is on a monthly basis running experiments to see what has the biggest impact once we know the stuff that has the biggest impact we figure out who on our team can do it the most efficiently and we there's a couple of books I recommend around this this kind of revolves around planning initially and then from there because you plan than that breaks down to each day so there's one book called the less traction that's a format you can fall quarterly planning and then there's also a weekly cadence because you do to quarterly and annual planning from there you have goals for the year and then because related and then I might have some other stuff that in there too right but what you don't want to do he's also known as Shit to dues k these are things weren't just like oh I'm GonNa go like I'm GonNa go like workout in the morning to go do laundry I'm going to go do this other stuff right you start adding yes you're getting stuff done in the day that doesn't move your business the key with your to do list is you gotta break stuff down that can be done not in a day but more so an hour or two.

Asu is worth it so let me give some context around here so sumo is a think of it as groupon but for application kitchens yeah software but i was like application. That's better application so basically googly i might let's say neal has software crazy right and he listed on app. Sumo and crazy is usually what ninety nine dollars plus a month something like that something like that ranges if he goes goes if i somehow convince him i say neal why don't you offer six months of crazy for ninety nine dollars and <hes> you know we'll blessed to our list of seven hundred thousand people which i think absolutely has something around that range. Let's call it six hundred or seven hundred thousand people that are interested in apps what they do is they will get you an influx of traffic influx of buyers for that specific deal and they'll split that payment with you might might be like fifty fifty or they might take sixty percent. I don't know what their take is. Now but i remember a long time ago. I ran a deal with them. When i worked at a company called treehouse and we ran a deal that that was their biggest day does a record day for them up to that date and i got in so much trouble because i didn't tell our customer service so anybody else. I just did the deal behind. Everyone's back and i think we generated like half. A million dollars was great but you know everyone's mad but that just shows you the power of apps. Oh right instill on a lot of people do apps him. Oh now the question now is if app zuma's actually worth so question for you. Neil you have a couple of software products. Have you ever used absolutely before. I think we have for a free version or limited version of our product. We don't like discounting the prom that you're getting when you discount is it chris bad precedent grant. Those users tend to turn much faster look. If you need a quick revenue hit go and do it. I don't like it because i found that when you discount sas companies people take your product it for granted and they turn way faster than if they paid normal prices yeah i find like from these deals site the inherently these people are looking for a deal in the first place so when you have people what are seeking deals are they're seeking to pay less. They are going to be a lot higher right so you just need to be prepared for that antonio's playing if you need that cash infusion if you get like a hundred or two hundred grant or so that might be the difference between you keeping the lights on for another twelve to twenty four months and then you have that runway extended right so what we might do in the future with one of our products this is we'll have a crippled version of the product where it might be like a startup version and we'll say hey you pay ninety nine dollars and you can get <hes> you know one year access or lifetime access and that's something that might be appealing willing to them. You get the cash infusion and you're also. It's a one time deal so you're not sacrificing on the integrity of your product just got to be creative with how you're going to do it but yeah absolutely what they've been like as a business. They've been growing pretty well after noah hired on kind of their their their acting c._e._o. Or the their c._e._o. That's in place right now. Which is a human abdulah so things that years ago like two years ago. Yeah yeah look if you want to quick revenue head considered doing it but in general you're we're gonna get more turn from those customers than if you went out and market your business and i like focusing on more long-term channel partnerships instead of focusing on a quick. Hey why don't you go find someone. Who's in your space. That has a has a different product. It's complementary you promote them. They promote you. They drive sign ups. That's consistent you. wonderful day as well all right well meal personal brand so do you wanna talk about first i'll let you go sure so let's define what a personal brand is first and foremost what i look at personal brand i'm actually before we even start recordings that she looking at remain safe he's he just released his book i will teach w rich and he his personal brand as around five minutes right he he teaches people how to you know make more money is gonna teach people how to be rich right how to make money how to save money and he's got all these hacks all these things and he sells a lot of you know online education that you could go out there and you could you could buy courses on but i've been following him since i was maybe twenty two twenty three years old even after now right i i still kind of respect the work that he's done so you know for him i first got no him through like you to videos i put together when they're really janki in his apartment i mean i i read his book in the first place right that's how he built his brand same thing with tim fares he wrote the four hour workweek and that's how he built his run now he built the podcast now he just speaking events and then you start a compound into you know who he is now and then he as she got investment opportunities into a lot of different companies i think lubers one of them to so you know that's what personal branding has gotten embarrassed and then i look at me look at his instagram story she's always traveling around you know he he gets to kind of do whatever he wants he talks a living the rich life and he he lives if he shows everyone that rich life so i think when i look at least those to you know it's certainly worth it and you know then i could turn my attention over to kneel to kneel you've kind of you build his personal brown around a brand around marketing so is it worth it what is it done yeah i i personally don't think personal branding is worth it that's just my two sons the reason i say that as you look at the biggest companies in the rural there is not necessarily a personal brand behind them or tied to yeah you can always say there's some of bum like kylie jenner has her a i think it's either hair makeup company that does really well and there's quite a few other examples but if you look at the biggest companies in the world you know google not relying on any personal brand nor is apple yes i know there steve jobs but she does amazing person even after he passed away they've grown into becoming a larger and larger company and so has amazon and yes jeff bezos is amazing entrepreneur but still they'll do well with or without jeff basis i'm not sure knock him and say what's on the elon musk says companies he's amazing but they still do well whether he's there or not yeah and i think you know when you look at jeff pesos when you look at steve jobs bill gates warren buffett i think you their branding quote unquote is is based on the results that they've achieved even michael jordan is a brand to right but it's you know he no he owns the charlotte a i think there's their horn is not the bob cats anymore so he owns a basketball team now right and they weren't consciously trying to build personal brand so i i liked the merit based personal brand that just kind of comes was you know doing great things now what i would say neil it let's refrained the question here now is it worth it for most people to build their personal brand if they want to leave a good life for themselves what do you think if you wanna lifestyle business i don't think it's a bad idea if you're trying to build a big business personal brands not needed and what would you define as a lifestyle business lifestyle is you're sitting in bed you watch netflix whenever you want and you know you don't they go into the office you could travel the world do whatever you want you have little to no employees that little office yeah my take on lifestyle a business is maybe you're making you know taking home a couple of hundred grand a year maybe you know maybe even you know million or so maybe a couple of millions of and i think you know in that case you know the personal brand is worth it i think it can certainly help you in that respect so yeah it just depends on what you what right i think you know if you wanna do really big business i think you don't even focused on the personal brand and you do something where it's merit based and you you kind of by default have that brand asti end of the day so that's my take on it neil young anything else you wanna know you know a one more thing to really consider when doing this says it's not just about lifestyle vs corporate brand if you wanna sawyer company it is much harder to sell anything if you have a personal brand people don't wanna buy personal brands of much and the reason being is the moment you have gum andrew try the end up selling it well you're not gonna have a good shot in the reason being is just companies are more reliant on your brandon that they're more relying on it it's just gonna be harder and harder and under bike so wait you're a key person when you leave what's gonna happen is a revenue you're gonna end up taking with you leaving as well so here's a question for you new 'cause you're you're at agency is called neil patel digital so what happens in the event of one day you're gonna really good offer what happens my ad agency is as relying on me as it was when i first started an whether we have my name editor not think of like ogilvy and some of the other at agencies along rashi named after people seem of law firms as long as you have amazing team members then it's not as relying on the key person then eventually what you'll find is you can keep growing you can't even so even if the company is named after individual there you have it everything is about the people everything literally everything you see around you i think the older we get the more we realize it's "But when it comes to hiring, great people to help grow the business. What if I don't have the funds is the question. And so, how can we make sure that they can still go to team kind of luted at some of the different ways bartering deferred payment equity incentives like that payments on results only commission? But what do you think what is certainly doesn't certainly fine? But I think even going before that. I think it's all about setting up the right systems and processes, documenting everything in place that when you can steal all about you at the end of that. You need to figure out the processes, that you can go sounds really boring, right? Obviously. Yeah. You can definitely work on commission that type of stuff, but I think if you're able to build these processes out on you're able to repeat things over and over you start to go up, then you can start to set aside. Okay. X amount to for this Pacific higher. And then you can start to repeat. Over and over. You a postcard because obviously, they know your address, right? Yeah. It says neighbor at address right? Okay. So when so now, it's like, well how much information my gonna give out right, right? Okay. If you sign in with your Facebook account. Well, they have now access to all of your Facebook information and possibly your free. Friends. Facebook information. I would never do that. Thank you. You know, what you're my neighbor. Love you be my neighbor. Okay. And you know, I I joined next door probably three years ago. If I was looking for spring training tickets totally coulda had them to the really good games. But one of the things that I did when I joined ex- shores. I did not use my real name. Smart. So you know, that would be my recommendation to you, and basically they just want your Email address or an Email address. Yeah. I have several. Yes, exactly. So what I did is they used a g mail account because you don't so easy to get a new one of those. Right. So you have these various tool, so I mean, I guess the bottom line is I feel free to use next door carefully formation that you give out right? I noticed some of my neighbors listings on next door that they had the mother's name. The father's name. And also for some reason, they had all the kids names, which I think is a really bad idea. I wouldn't even give them my dog's name right need that. So you just practice saved. You know, use your commonsense. Use a different Email address use a different name. But it is interesting to see how you can get some information about what's really some good information about what's really going on in the neighborhood. I mean, you've got some experience with freemen. Can you define what freedom is in the first place and most people look at premium Justin software as a service so SAS, but it doesn't have to be applicable Justice SAS it works in so many different categories and field. So free me as you give a better way for free. And then if they want more they gotta pay a good example of this wet software as the service you can end up saying, hey, I'm SEM rush. You can use SEM rush ten times in a day. And then after if you wanna use the Levin time, you gotta pay anoth-. Good example of this with SEM rush is you can see ten rows of data when it comes to back links or keywords or competitive research. But if you want eleventh or fifteen or twenty throw of data, you gotta end up paying, that's example of freedom when it comes to software. Another good example of free Freeman in the real world is or a brush, hey, you wanna tongue cleaner, it's free. And they may sell you on a lot of other stuff like liquids that go with it. They may sell you special toothbrushes toothpaste. There's even free book funnels, you can have a free book. But if you want more, you gotta pay I know some people do that with their Amazon books where itself published the give away the first you chapter of the book. But if you want the third or fourth or fifth chapter you have to pay and you can use this in all aspects of life again, it doesn't have to be authorized to give you guys a few examples that non-self related as well. Yeah. I'll give. More examples from the offer side because Doug tales well into vying sample, so if we think about hub spot now their CRM is freedom now, so you can basically access their CRM for free. So they've done really good job of putting locks around their product. So you can use it like the is pretty full featured. And there's a lot of arms out there, but they decided to make it free and in the Boston area open view ventures and hubs by they basically have coined term called product led growth, which is leading with the product. I and in some cases, it might be free to access now, let's see hub spots are good example of Freeman. And then there's another company called profit while they over eight figures year, the interesting thing is they are a services business. So they basically will help. I like if you're you do the strategy. I think it's really important to keep your shows underneath certain length. Typically, I would say under thirty minutes if going long in the thirty minutes chances are your brain's kinda fried at least mine is after doing going to long form content like that. So I keep short when I'm doing like this like I'm doing backup sold right out just reward another one. But anyways. Yes, you can batch record. That's another way to do it. Keep it simple. And and just make sure you have your content ready to go. You don't wanna wing it because it's gonna come out crappy. So ready to go mean, you have a word document or some kind of Evernote file with some links and resources and some key points that you wanna make in the show. And for me. I have my app opened on when I'm doing his podcast on the go. Like, I am now I have the app actually opened on my phone. I have it in the notes. So what I do is throughout the week. I have notes tab that. I think good titles or good topics. I read them down here. And then I will do some research if needed or I will just record the episode. But I know exactly what I'm gonna be recording going in. I know exactly what I wanna do. Look, for instance. We're gonna talk about how he can do SEO without building links. So with SEO everyone's like, you got to build links. It's hard knowns gonna linked to me. Here's the thing. If you truly build a really good product, you don't have to fight for links or service or amazing content. It's a big misconception. That linked only has to be done manually, one of the most popular pages on my site is called Uber Sagesse I release a free marketing till I get links naturally. I don't have to go out there and fight for it. Eric has a lot of stuff that has links. Some your guys have a tunnel links. How much outreach did you do to building some guys like zero exactly? And you wrote these guys did you have a falling back in that people who Eric SU us. No, he's shaking his head not realizing that you guys can't hear. Oh, yeah. No. If you create something that's really and keeping my when air created those guys there's less competition. Now, there's a lot of competition. So you can't just write a guy yet to go above and beyond. Whether it's releasing free tool doing a free in-person event. Like just doing crazy stuff that people wouldn't expect. That's how you build links. It could be PR stunts. You just gotta think outside the box and of just being like all I'm gonna do a lot of outreach. I'm just going to write blog posts, the basic stuff isn't gonna work anymore. Yeah. To Neal's point, I mean, overview partners calls causes product led growth. So whether you're releasing a tool like Uber suggests or when you look at hub spots website, greater actually looked at links that it has a big it has like I want to call it a one or two thousand referring domains and rings for about eleven thousand keywords or might be the other way around where it has even more links, but you could use the tool like h rows or rush just get some ideas. Right. Like, here's an example, we found out that our site ranks for the keyword strike through tax, and like Nelson, blah, we should just make a strike. Through texts tool and that actually helped move us to a higher Rakia for the keyword strike through text as like that's an example of not needing to necessarily build more links work because we didn't go do more outreach. We just made it more useful attracted more links. So you know when you look at. Would you look at? Okay. So let's see who else does the free tool. So you've got hubs spot that does the website greater you got you do does over suggests a lot of these people that do Freeman tools like profit while for example, it's their tool is freedom. And it's not like they're reaching out for links. Right. So if you can do product led growth, look, it doesn't cost you a lot of money to build some of these tools, sometimes some. Yes, you definitely do need to spend more money. But some you don't it can become a Lincoln asset. That's what s used to call it and also leverages social site toget- press. So if you build a tool or anything like that, if someone if you know people launch it on Tyke read at our product or hacker news gone all these sites released up there and within your own community. You have different versions of read, it has suburbs for everything. It's great way to get eyeballs in some of those people end up linking to you. But that's the key link building. Now, it's not about manually outreach. Or it's not about buying lethal shortsighted. It's purely about going and finding the best mouth. Trap or carrot and people will naturally wanna link to and what does that mouse trap? Or what does that carry it? Typically is doing the opposite of whatever everyone else doing in your space. Everyone's charging thousands of dollars for product figure out how to make it free or figure how to make more foldable everyone is making a ton of money with a complicated product for how to make something usable. You could do quizzes. You can do comics you infographics. The possibilities are endless. You just got to start thinking outside the box. What are some of your favorites or into nineteen? I know you still view links as being valuable due to what are some of the things you're going to do with single grain to grow your link count without doing manual outreach? Well, I think it's a little different for us because we already have domain authority. So when we publish something that's really big it's going to attract like a lot of a lot more traffic, and therefore more links. Well, okay, then let's not look single grain. You also have sites in like, the the space old people's home. Home and stuff like that. Like retired shut that one down you shut good for your your focusing more. And you also have sites in the outdoor space. Well, let's growth everywhere for growth. So that one doesn't have as much authority. It doesn't. Yeah. It's it's decent authority 'cause it's been around for a while. But we're play do is we're playing to rebranded into the book that I have coming out on leveling up, which is basically how you can play the game of life because I like playing games. So what we're planning to do down the road is even have like a pint of Bill widgets, right? It's just making things up right now. But here's all the experience you need to eventually become like a to learn marking or become an entrepreneur, right? Little widgets. A better example be like how to tied tied calm. So we have something like that where it's like practical people are surging for people gonna motivate people and people can use it to track themselves. I don't have it fully defined yet. But it is going to be like a widget. So you're gonna end up creating practical stuff that people can use on a daily daily journal, for example, just making things up right now. Right. Those. Actually, there's a lot of people that visit these daily journal sites, and you can actually make it very easy for people to also keep track of their own journal write stuff he store for them. Make it secure people's privacy. You don't their secrets going out everywhere in the world. But just basic stuff like that. And it doesn't complicated. If you look a hub spots graders. Not that amazing just being honest. If you look at Uber suggests I like it because I built it. But there's other paid tools have way more features than I do. And they're more usable and better. But you know, what minds free and same with the hub spots greater is free. And it's you don't have to create the best thing out there to do. Well, you just have to be good enough. All right. "I'm Eric SU, and I'm you'll tell, and today we're going to talk about how to craft crafting irresistible hook. But first and foremost, Neil, what is a hook? What does that even mean? A hook is something that draws people in. You know, when you're watching that movie is starting off the scene at the beginning that draws you in, you're gonna pay attention. You're gonna be attentive for the rest of the movie. That's the hook. Someone comes to your website, the Goodyear landing page. They're seeing a headline or some copy or image. Something that hooks in that causes them to want to read the rest or stay on your site. Maybe converted lead purchase something as an car, maybe give you their Email address, but it something that entices them to just continue forward. Yeah. So a good example of this would be if you think about Squatty potty, so they're the, they're the product that helps you better at you. You put a little thing in your. You squad on it and then boom wallah like, do you have you had a squatting money legit? So there you go see, I've never used it. The commercial itself. I remember I had the guy on the growth everywhere. Podcasts awhile back and in two thousand fifteen hundred twenty million in revenue selling Squatty potties. They're doing way more than that now. But what they did was they had commercial where unicorn was pooping out rainbow ice cream in the first few seconds, and you see the spokesperson eat ice cream k. so that's unique. That's a hook that gets you. That's an example. The example, think of it could be something as simple as one of my landing pages to do something says, do you want more traffic to simple hook? Everyone who comes to my site as a marketing blogs, like, yeah, of course it won't more traffic. That's why I'm here at your blog. So it'd be like putting your URL and that hooks you in because once you put in your URL I started showing you analysis things of that nature that just get you to keep going through my funnel. Another example I'm testing out right now is. You know, my hook is a headline of how I generate one point, seven million visitors among through SEO, you know? And then I say, do you want that traffic sign up for my web and our to.

We're gonna talk about wire traffic is going to tank and well, you won't be able to fix it. So Neil, what are your general thoughts around this and why people won't be able to fix it with your marketing? You're relying on many different channels. There's Google ad words. There's Facebook ads. There's Google their social media marketing getting on base book and Twitter and Instagram, all organic Louis. And a lot of these players changed their algorithm consistently because they're trying to improve the user experience. Many cases you'll be able to grow your traffic. Some cases you won't. For example, you could be in a space. Google says, hey, we're no longer allowing advertising for this can't do much there. It's okay. You're going to have a time in your business. We are traffic declines. Yes. Other channels may increase. But there's gonna be points where traffic's going to decline and you can't do much to fix it because not everything is in your control. One meal learn to accept it and to you need to learn to diversify your traffic sources. So you're not relying on one because when your business takes a dip, if you're relying only on one or technically relying on one in your business takes dips. You're pretty much shit out of luck. But if you diversify your strategy and you take Omni channel approach, you're much more likely to stay afloat and succeed in the long run. I think it might be helpful for us to give some templates on how word diversifying right now. Maybe we're your diversifying and maybe even before that, like if somebody's starting out what should they do first before they diversify yet? So the easiest channels to go after verse, our content marketing will technically if you have money to easiest channels ago after I are paid ads, Google and Facebook, they work yesterday is being and there's other sites, but Google and Facebook. The big drivers that also the biggest players, then I would look into content marketing. Right? Create blog post promoted on Facebook, Twitter, all the other social channels like Lincoln if you don't have a falling. That's okay. You can use tools like buzz similar to see who shares your competitions post and just hit him up and ask them to share your content. Then you can do things like link building rate, SEO higher rankings, and the way you wanna do that as you can use tools like eight to see links cheer competition. Look the back links, hey, each of those sites up and get them to start linking back to you. You can also do things like collecting Email addresses for people visit your site, Eric. And I do that all the time. There's a lot of tools for that from sumo to opt in monster to Hello bar. You can also do things like affiliate marketing. Other people drive you sales and you'll pay him per commission, but there's a ton of channels and we, Eric, and I look at as experimentation and spaghetti. You throw against the wall. You try like five or six marketing experiments. The ones that start working the best you do those first and after you know, you put as much time and effort, and they searched laying down in growth. Then you start diversifying in folks. Being on other channels? Yeah. So I think it's not a not completely hopeless. Your traffic's could go down no matter what it's what are you going to do about how are you going to react to it? So one thing we do as a team is we use the growth, hackers tool, call northstar so growth, hackers north star. You can Google it. It's free for up to twenty people not affiliated at all, and it's a project management tool that shows you methodically how you can continue to run experiments because a lot of people, for example, Neil and I, we always have these different ideas all the time, but how do you consolidate the ideas of how do you be more methodical more scientific about testing these that way? You're actually looking at your learnings and seeing how good your assumptions are, and you can have have a leader board to you can even game a fight a little bit. Give rewards to people who have random most exciting tests or that the most successful tests. That's one way you can go about testing solutions to fixing your traffic and also figuring out how you might wanna go about diversifying. So a little bit on the playbook that I have is will Neal Nigeria podcast right now, but we're also doing a video. We're doing videos that the. Same time, Neil has YouTube channel. I have my YouTube channel, and then we're also publishing these videos to linked in. For example, because of organic reach. Ellington is great and also because Neil gets a lot of eats a lot of organic traffic. I get decent getting traffic. He's probably next plus more, but I will take that traffic. I'll take the people that are visiting the middle funnel pages, like services pages, or maybe they're on my Email is and I'm gonna go ahead and retarget those people on these other ad platforms such as YouTube or add words, for example, to try to drive more conversion. So a lot of different options here we can just continue to list, but we're not gonna do that. The final one I'll give you right now is doing webinars, and if you don't have an audience, figuring out how you can barter, do some partner webinars with other people and try to get the leads from them. And then he could start to build something, but start with something first and then start to fan out call. I think that's pretty much for this. That's it for today. "Get ready for your daily dose of marketing strategies and tactics from entrepreneurs with the guy and experience to help you find success in any marketing capacity. You're listening to marketing school with your instructors, Neil Patel, and Eric SU. Welcome to a another episode of marketing school. I'm Eric SU, and I'm able to tell as they order talk about how often you really need to blog. So Neil, what's your take on this? We'll there's two camps with this. Some people say quality. Some people say quantity. If you look at hub spot there in the quantity game, if you look at like my blog, I'm more in the quality game. If you wanted to go to extreme, if you look at back lingo by Brian Deane, he's really in the quality game. If you look who's the biggest though hub saw has a four billion plus dollar market cap? Yes, they're venture funded. They have a lot of advantages Brian from back Linkohr's, not selling product, but if you look at traffic wise ups, getting at least six or seven million visitors month, they release their traffic's at summer on their homepage or website changed him. Now, Brian, I dunno traffic is, but I'm pretty sure it's under a half a million because you can use tools like SEM rush to roughly estimate, and I'm not. Saying Brian, Zing, a bad job. I think he's doing amazing job. I love his information. I read his blog more than every the hub spot blog. But if you're just looking really from traffic's perspective, you wanna blog as much as possible, not just three or four times a week, not just one today. I'm talking about four, five, ten times a day. This is the same reason why business insider Huffington Post tech crunch mash -able, BuzzFeed. All these poplar blogs are popular is because they blog multiple times a day. The keys quantity is king if you're looking just for traffic. Yeah. And if you look at a couple of things, so Neil actually does. He has a fine balance he, he definitely does have quality. We're talking three to four thousand words proposed, right? Yes. And then how often are you doing it once a day? Once they. So it is actually pretty frequent, but it's not as frequent as a publisher, like an entrepreneur magazine where they're doing like five fifteen twenty pieces of day and have a very strong contributor network. And that's something I wanna touch a touch upon. So once you like for Neil, for example, he probably gets hit up all the time. Like Neil, I'd love to guess right. For your blog. Is that right? Yes. I get the like ten fifteen times a day. Yeah. So if you look at the entrepreneurs of the world, they're, they've actually, I think maybe not entrepreneur specifically, but like Huffington Post. For example, these other types of blogs out there to have contributor networks. They sometimes clamp down and you know, kind of, you know, remove people, but oftentimes they're trying to get more and more contributors because they just want more and more content and they know that most of them are going to be duds, but there are going to be a couple that are home runs that play at that point, you're just playing a numbers game. So for them, I mean, you see it right if you're looking for pure traffic, the volume matters, but then if you want to good balance, look at what Neil has going on. He's got one coming every day. He's definitely spending a lot of money on it as well, but he gets to control the message himself. The level of the quality is much higher than what you see on these ones that are publishing all the time. Now if you want to go to extreme as like what? What meals mentioning back link? Oh, the last time I talked to him. He gets about one hundred thirty thousand visits a month, which is fantastic. It's great, but he only has about thirty or so. Blog posts on his site and they're all super high quality. Right? So it really also depends on what your priorities are in the business. How far are you into? Are you in the very beginning where you're trying to establish product market fit? If so, maybe blogging your priority in the beginning, but you gotta get a cadence going where you're consistent with it Neil. And I've talked about this very beginning. You gotta stay consistent words like a TV show where people understand or are they know when you're next is going to come out and you just keep publishing you keep optimizing from there and that you eventually create something that works well for you. So just because something works while for Neil or for myself doesn't mean it's a blanket statement and it should apply to everyone. You gotta figure out what works for you. This strategy, I like using a mixture of both so blog as frequently as possible. No less than three times a week. If you really wanna grow your business, if you don't care, how big is then, you know, go with once a month or whatever coach you can or whatever time you have. But I like blogging, quantity, put in a good amount of time per post. Try to make them medium in quality, if not high in quality, where you'll find out that blog. Is hit or miss some post, do really well some post don't. You can't always control it. There's not always a exact formula. What's working, what's not. But then once you find that you release a lot of contact, you then take the posts that are doing really well if you're not sure which ones just go to Google search console, it'll show your most popular content. Just click on the search analytics tab. Once you're in there, you looking at the most popular pages, take them, rewrite them to include all the keywords that Google search console shows the getting traffic from our impressions as you integrate some of these key words and you can't integrate all of them because some of them just won't fit well. But when you integrate them as naturally as possible and you redo your post to make it to to three times more in depth way. Oh, find is that post. Sometimes we'll get two or three times more and traffic. So I take the quantity approach then when I find the post Ardy do well, I then go and rewrite them make more detailed, include more keywords and was causing my block to grow so fast fun. From my side is the concept of being top of mind were with markings. So we're doing an episode every single day and its publishing cross different channels. So the more that you can publish the more touch points, you're gonna have what people and kneels talked about the rule of seven or maybe we're all of eight, I believe, but it's having those touch points and staying top of mind were maybe people not might not need you initially in terms of, you know your services or your product or whatever, but eventually because you're popping up all the time where people are saying, I see you everywhere. I don't know how you do this all the time. That's when you know you're doing something right. That's when you know you're playing the Brandon game for the long term. So that's it for today.
