"Lot stronger here. Let me widen the sound a little bit. And you see guy like Jeremy. Oh, yeah. Like doing. Let's bit can shit up gang it off Jeremy and Bill, the dead lifts like nine hundred pounds. All right. All right. This kid's got some to that. So we white a little bit more wind a little bit more. And then one day I wasn't a little too far and felt the nice pole in the ground. And I was like, oh shit. Man. I think I'm hurt. And, you know Jesse is like all right. Let's see what you can do. So I came back the next day, I was, I was hurting way worse. You know, two days later, I come in. He's like, let's get your feet really close and Seaview conventional Dilip. And I could it was like tuna quarter. So all right, cool. We can work with that. It's like let's do some safety bar squats to the box with your feet in real close. Can you do that? And I was like, yeah. And I don't feel any pain at all. And it's like good. We're going to build on this while you recover, and I got stronger with a fucking injury. And then when I came back to the sumo's left old, man workouts, which was not super widening Moore, who was a moderate sumo stance. I was stronger for it like my sumo had gone up because able to work through it the whole time. So like Z. Things like that. It's like you can always do something. You know, you really can't I've met guys in the military with no more. They don't have legs. And their body is just fucking chiseled a granite now because they never said like, oh, I can't do anything anymore like no, they're fucking doing rope giant sailing. Shit. You know. So I think that's, that's kind of the mindset to have. There's some things that are so debilitating spinal injury. Whatever like, yeah. You maybe can't work through that. But there's a lot of things you can work through. So just he's taught me a lot there. Yeah. What you said earlier about, like the cold tub. Right. Like, that's the way I view fitness. And that's the way I view nutrition is like, should always pull people in and make it sound we should lie to him a little bit about how smooth and easy everything's gonna be. And then, you know pour it on thick once they once we get them through the door and once we get him locked in. And that's when you can dump everything on them as much again. I remember having Jeremy Avila here and this doesn't happen very often where we have like a mutant in the house. And usually when we do have a mutant in the house, the mutant known everybody's like okay, they're Stanford and he's a mutant clearly, he's got like twenty two charms he's a freak, you know, and then we've had Eric spo- here who broke all time world record in the bench press, and he had a he had, like twenty inch four arms you know so it's very obvious and you see them. Move four or five and like, all right. Mutant? Right. You can spot them, but Jeremy's not very big. You know, he's not he's jacked, but he's just doesn't. He doesn't really look intimidating. And I'll never forget and see him as face when Jeremy came through the door, and we started lifting with us. We're just going through our warm ups, and we're lifting two plates and three plates and four plates..

"So Jalen, go ahead. I'm gonna let you pick it up. John Howard, my brother from another mother who I play against in high school. When you guys came to Detroit, and our teams actually had a fight the same John Hauer that we played the McDonald's, high school, all American together. And we rearranged the rules, so that we all talk about doing some special over the Saint John Hauer that was a grownup in the rule that the world has never seen without a haircut or crease in his fans the same Juwan Howard had the level of respect that took me to shot town with him every summer. Okay. This is a goddess now put himself in position. Greenie to lead the university of Michigan program. He's disciplined he's har- working is all about his leadership. I wanna congratulate you as an alone as a friend as a five-member widgets here to support you your vision. I love you and congratulations. Thank you. Thank you, my brother. He has everything you said, gave me chills all all through my body because, you know that bond right there that brotherhood were never lose. We were never lose that and I know how hard you've been working to try to make this day possible for me. You know how important it is to me, and my family seen it yesterday, how emotional guy because of the fact that this is so special, especially day for knowing myself and my family, but for all of us man. So I just want to say I love you, Jay rose and go blue brother. I I'll jump in quickly if I can go on I like to ask you, the same question as jail and the day that you were officially hired and that is that for the longest time now for twenty five years, there has been a strained relationship between the university, and the fab five and obviously, the statement that is made by the school by hiring you bringing you back in, in significant away, as they do, that's the end of that. That's the end of that tension. So so for you for. Twenty five years later. What does that mean to you? Well, it means a lot to me. I this university president, mar also way excuse me more manual. Has really take the confidence on. And just say you know what I trust this man, we believe in him. And we just know he would be the right coach to lead this program, so that meant a lot to me to say that I have the trust and belief in this organization, this organization, which I would say program that, you know, they know that I can't do this job and I'm capable of doing this job. The relationship with the fat five is now coming back, and this is one step. For those that haven't closely, followed your coaching career, you really paid your dues on some of the best Eric's posters, leadership, winning a championship as a player. Also, Pat Riley, and what he does with the Miami Heat organization. Can you let the people know what to in -ticipant as a relate to you being the leader in the face of program on the floor off the floor? Well, you said it best, I was fortunate enough to work for championship organization. Like the Miami Heat learning from guy like Eric. Spo- stra sound from the actual tree been six years in staff, Zorba, and all that great knowledge. He's one of the hardest working coaches, I think he doesn't get credit for one of the best coaches this league. Pat Riley, sitting in meetings listening to him, speak taking all that knowledge learning from him David phys, Dale key smart. Dan, Craig, Chris Quinn, we all challenge each other to get better. So they helped prepare me for this day. And now that I get a chance to be a head coach prepare for this. And I'm looking forward to the challenge on a lot of us were moved when we saw how emotional you are at your news conference yesterday, I thought all over social media, how would you put into words what that was? Why where did that emotion come from yesterday? Well came from what Jalen mentioned earlier, he gave you my background growing up on inner city Chicago to south side, a kid has made counted out many thought that would never ever make on collegiate level within go.

"I'll just do a Monja ammonia. Yeah. I do you. You're talking about something. Really? No. No. No. No. No. And then CO calm. I am. Yeah. You're definitely not my night with you. I'm like. Yeah. Okay. And then like I mean, so you've been doing this for a long time. And you know, when you're chasing after something so hard, it can be on healthy in some ways to get blood work done and stuff, you get checked out. I do I got a guy name Fong in LA that does my blood work and monitors me. And I I'm till I'm taking care of Unum. Yeah. That's smart. Is it can this kind of stuff can can really take. It's toll on you. When you've been done pushing so hard for so long. Yeah. Seven seven hundred sixteen point five pounds or watching him setup for it. Guys, kind of pushing him into helping. Oh, my there. Yep. Just like you said, and this kind of shit is always hard to watch. Especially when somebody now. It's okay. I was their dorm, but see right there. No. My elbow is outright there. If you see that left elbow pack Boeing. Just dives right in there. It was a bad and what sucked as I drove up here. Oh, man. I had a drive eleven hours back home, and it was like every fucking bumpy. It was just like. Brutal was part of going for that lift was that kind of because Eric spo- was was coming around at that time. And he was starting finger. Rob, robin. Remember, no, I was just having fun. You know, just having fun. I was in shape. Yeah. And you know, I was just trying to get my world record a little bit higher. You know, about how many exercises would you do in a given workout when you were kind of prepping for these contests will on well when I'm benching I just bench because when the weights so heavy I can't do support work during the same workout. So I'll just bench when I bench any tissue elbows or like jello. And then a couple days later, I'll do legs next day. So I don't have to mess with my elbows. And then I do bodybuilding, you know, I'll do biceps. I'll try I'll do shoulders a lot of trap work back chest. You know, the whole thing type of specific traffic as you do. I have a trap exercise jam Blakely taught me, and it's Smith machine you can do it on a barbell too. But I'll pick it up, and then I'll roll might traps forward and bring my head into it. And I'm what I'm doing is pushing my neck into my traps like field trips. Mark like, my Trumpster here. Right. No, no, keep your hands like table. Keep your hand. I'm here and I'll squeeze forward here. And then I'll squeeze back Trump and just stay forward and squeeze back, and I'll just do that. And it works. I got my Neth at twenty eight and a half inches like that right now it's about twenty five and a half. So that's insane. That's like, not even you're not even really shrug. It's just kind of movement of your head. Yeah. But you're you're taking intensity, and you're putting that into your trap to its neck and trap involved. Yeah. A great exercise. Tommy never thought doing anything like that. Yeah. A little little chicks trust show. You guys out. After outta here. What some of the training that you do for arm-wrestling armrest wing specific exercises, a lot of forearm work, like, you know, what before I started arm wrestling. I never could really contract my form when I contract my forum. I feel the end of my forearm right here. Like a bicep. You know what? I mean. I never felt that before. So I developed that we do a lot of wrist work a lot of bicep work and bicep work instead of coming all the way down and doing this. 'cause you're enormous when you're here. So we'll go from here..

"So when you bench, this is only the contact point boom driving through my whole body and this motion this way, you take. This. And as you move back this way, you're here. So your inner triceps and your hands and your gluts in your hips are attached. I called a seesaw fact, so as I'm coming down on this way as going up this way. So. So you're going like this. You know what I'm in? Yeah. So you're saying that your head comes up off of the bench, then head has nothing to do with them. But yes, my head comes off the bench. I'll just 'cause like I hear your head is like your. It's like, you know, a crane a crane is this huge thing that lifts like all kinds of crazy shit up. But that little glass booth where the dude sits that's where all the action comes from yet, which is your head. So when I bench I get a lift off on here. And I'm looking around this is a separate body in my mind than all this. This is the glass case where the guy's going like this. This is taken all the control from this. And I call that a mind muscle linkup. Makes makes sense. Yeah. Really does. Right. Let's talk about so in two thousand thirteen you were trying to break. I think Eric spo- think he broke your record at the time. He hadn't broken break. My record. You're trying to break your own record. And ended up having a tear that really just fuck things up for for a while for you. Right. I remember like in the warm up room. You were you're going through your progressions and stuff. And and I think unfortunately, I think when you got the platform those cold it. Yeah. And I think that I don't even know if we had like the right people up there that are helping you in the guy on the left and someone gave you lift off from the side. And the other side didn't give you lift off. It was like a thorough on the platform. Yes. I mean. Yeah. Happened on the platform in the warm up room. I think they got it right away. Perfect. And then for some reason something got jacked up when the guy when I hit the seven sixteen the guy on the left dropped the weight on me, no shit. So what happened was my elbow flared out, and I was trying to get it back in. And when I hit the bottom it was like this. It was out a little bit. But the week wasn't heavy 'cause I had done it a million times. I was good. So when I threw it up it was like thirty Qatar strings of. So it was it was kinda crazy. But I was ready that day, you know. But it wasn't wasn't my time. Now, it was my exit that day. Yeah. Should happen. Right. You know what? When you're in the sport. Like, I told you you're at the max, you're in the dragster shit happens Motors blow things happen. So when it comes to any and all things, you know, a lot of performance enhancing drugs. Utilized in this sport in bodybuilding and many sports. I if I think if I remember correctly, you were talking about taking something hype you up for the band or something like that like nitroglycerin or something none..

"Being brought down trying to keep that position. He got a little sideways with it know, look, and then yeah, obviously not locked. Hey, wasn't able to really he was sideways kind of a whole time. He was and then it was hard for him to straighten the out at the top. I think I think he'd be you got do eleven seven cyber whatever I can do matter. Throw that little extra weight on the. What do you think about chip in world records think that's cheap cheap one? It is what it is. I mean, I don't think it's cheap. It's more weight. Right. Right. It's in fuck your hitting eleven hundred pounds like eleven o one and you hit it. What is that sheep? Whatever whatever way you want to do. I mean, you know, it's more weight. That's your world record. You know, do you have any regrets because I've heard you a long time ago? You told me that I think you said you bench like seven fifty five raw I've been seven eighty five raw he's you have any regrets that you were not able to plot to do. And my wife told me because there was no raw movement. And I was doing it at the gym all the time. And she's like just to it just doing. I'm like why nobody gives a fuck. You know, I should have done it baby. You're right. I should have done it. I thought up, you know, seven eighty five seventy five I I got eight hundred two here could lock it out was a big part of that the the board training. So everything's about board trade you hit like eight hundred off one board gone eight fifteen off to boards before raw raw. That's insane. Yeah. That's that's incredible. Look SPO or Spoleto used to do pin press and stuff with over eight hundred pounds to. Yeah. You know, Eric SPO? I don't know where the fuck you are but wake up give me a call motherfucker. Okay. I love you. He does too much bodybuilding. You said, well, you know, what? I mean. I guess he's done now because we shoulders, but he's still hand on some big weights gnarly, dude or do and he's legit. You know, all his lips are legit. The man came out. He did his thing. I heard he hadn't posted in like two years sixteen Bob insane much from him in a while. What would you still hanging out with STAN invaded? I don't know. I haven't heard anything from air explode on a while. I text them here and there, so I know he's still around talked to his friend Brody more than I talked to actually asked him. Very interesting question for this podcast today in preparation for this podcast. I asked him who would win an arm wrestling match. And he said, you know, you can never really tell what's going to happen. But if I was the bet I bet on myself. Of course, we will. Let me tell you something showdown though. They would be a great showdown. I mean, we talked about it before. And then he disappeared Eric's, very emotional guy. You know what I mean? And I mean, I'm not talking shit about hard for and he's a he's a great friend. And he's a great athlete. It was time for him to come out of his shell. And he's got a lot more arm wrestling experience. Do you know what I'm in? Our remember when I was training with them. I grabbed his hand one time, and I should pull me pull me and he fucking. I swear to God it felt like you could rip my arm of my body. And I was like holy fuck because like show when you out there. It's not it's not your arm. Yes. Not at your whole fucking body. Yeah. I don't know if you people have seen the arms that Eric SPO. Like forty three and a half inches fucking ridiculous. It's it's insane. Like, you know, drawn you towards us for so long..

"So I grab it. And it's like, hey this weekend. There's a fucking powerlifting. Meet in Burbank. The one I met you at and she's like, well, I don't know. She goes who they bench in fucking know, maybe nine hundred six forty you know, and she's like well fuck, let's do it. And I'm like, okay. And then I met Mark Bell. So here we are. Here. We are like a weird weird set of circumstances. In a lot of ways I made a post and said, you know, you broke the all time world record. And you had it for a long time. How long I had it for about twelve years. I still have the three away world record that I've had for like sixteen years. Yeah. And you get a set of no one at three oh, six body weight and a seven fifteen bench. Right. Seven fifteen at three fourteen. I believe it was an Eric SPO who grew up in the same areas. You guys didn't know each time. He ended up training with you for while. Yeah. Eric trained with me. And you know, I love them, Greg. I I showed her my secrets he still alive, by the way, people asking me like what I was wondering, Eric where the fuck are you give me a call? You know? But you know, he's a good guy. And I'm you know, what it's cool because you know, what records for there to be broken? And the fact that I trained him. I wasn't completely hundred percent responsible for him. Breaking the record. He put the time in right? But you know, by him, breaking it and me training him. It's it's sort of a branch off my tree. Yeah. You know what I'm in? And I I really I enjoyed training with them. He have similar forms. Here's your form quite different than his. I'm different. I'm on the balls of my feet. Oh, yeah. Your feet away. Yeah. My feet further bath think about you know, you hear everyone talking about like tuck in the elbows in all these different things. And obviously, I mean, you're a really wide guy. You're thick as hell. So it's gonna look different you bench pressing versus a girl who's one hundred thirty two pounds. What do you think about kind of like, you know, tuck in the elbows in tight and stuff like that? Do you agree with that? Or you have a different style. Well, I one hundred percent agree with it. My style is and everybody can see me on camera. Correct. Yep. Yeah. Okay. I like put your hand flat on my back. Okay. What I do is. I take my shoulder blades, and I pinch them together. Okay. Loosely? Not with like a latch spread or anything like that. I'm trying to get my shoulders as close together as possible. Then once I do that. Then I tighten the muscle up around it. Okay. And that's how I start my bench press to where I'm almost cramped up. Now, my triceps everything on the bench press comes from the inner tricep. So what I do is imagine if you had skin that attached your tricep to your latte. Okay. You know, the dimple on your lap. When you do your latte. I take my my tricep, and I put it there. Okay. So I'm a little bit like right in the middle of my son of resting his tricep, like honest latte. Right. Might be hard to do if you don't have developed last. So what I do is in this position. I'm pinched and cramped all the way back now when I pull I never let my elbow. Separate nother words. I never come from here and let my elbow go down. Here we stay into my back, and when I pull and you'll see it.

"So it'd be interesting kind of do some of these training methods ever trained with bands or chains or anything like that for a lot bands, especially my trainer loves doing that. And that's a great way for golfing like today, who's your training? Great johnson. So johnson. I mean, I can talk about home today. He's great. He's I've been working with them a long time without him. I would definitely not be here. So he'd kinda took all my madness and chaos and turn it in order. So he's awesome. But what were you doing before that almost like bodybuilding? No, obviously, you can. So like my few years, I didn't do much lifted. But I wasn't as I didn't know as much as I do not everything I have is to appoint. So when I first started some of these older videos. I don't like I do now because I was just young and dumb. But I realized like man, I can actually be good at this. I wanna get big strong and fast. So everything I do relative to lifting power strength. Speed is. Golf itself. So I'd like to do some more the heavyweights, but I build my body for golf so because you can see I'm not the most flexible guy in the world. It just swing the Gulf clip faster than anyone ever has. It's I dunno it just happens. But now that I have addicted to make even have you and your trainer done some stuff. And then you've gone back to them and said like, hey, man, like, you know, kind of slow now little bit or too tight the other day, or whatever all the time lot of feedback all the time. But that's how we grow dynamically that were the sign of coach it's a product. Oh, my you'll love him. He's he's a big fan of yours. Cool. But this is a product, right? So it's me as a person, but I'm also a product. So if that product starts to slide or not where we wanted to go we make it better. So it's a product. And he's obsessed with making me better as much as I am a huge sign of great coach because a lot of coaches, they just want to influence you with what they know. And they're not they're not obsessed with influencing what's best for you. Because it might go against something that they have. But. You know, when you work with someone that's going to set a world record, you work with someone who's kinda like knocking on that door. The rules early is a little different. You had a guy here named Eric SPO who ended up bench and seven hundred twenty two pounds, raw absolute monster. I mean, he just unbelievable strength, but Eric missed it. The first time in training. I helped him I helped prep for that contest and helped prep them for the next time. He went out to and he did it and breaking the world record. But what I told him in his training the second time around. I said, you know, what here's a truth, man. Nobody knows anything about this uncharted territory. You know, so I can give you a lot of guidance. I can give you a lot of advice, but need a lot of your feedback because I don't I don't know what I have no clue what it feels like to bench seven hundred twenty two pounds. You know? So you get into on chart territory and all hell breaks loose. So when I went down to because a lot of the people around me and some outside people were telling grows like, hey, you got to check the sky rain winter out. He's a freak. He's doing this. And Greg's like almost like, I don't think so that doesn't work the body doesn't. Work that way. So eventually enough people bugged them he invited me down, and I was warming up. And when I started separate on the gas. I mean, you're talking the number one Gulf guru. He's a doctor. I mean, he's just looking at me like what the hell like what is that? So then I started going down like every week going down to LA or oceanside. And he was just studying me and studying me and studying me, and because like I said I broke every mold that they came up with now. But which is a huge honor for me, they started a jesting some of their power levels. So you will literally study my swing when you take some courses, which is really cool for me. 'cause now I'm influencing some of the best minds in the world..

"Eric SPO, two was different expo kind of just went to the beat of his own drum, which is totally fine. Don't have to act or be like anybody else. There's a good shot of that back. You don't have to act or be like anybody else you'd be your own person. That's the way some people role, but right. Do you think he has some sort of burning desire in himself to to show people like I'm not a fuck up. I, I was, you know, I was addicted to drugs. I did have these problems, but I'm not that same person. Absolutely. And I think it it's it's very important for him to prove that not only other people but to himself. And but I think there's a lot of people who have these issues and have that sort of kind of a makeup. It's it's an everyday battle. It's not a, I'm gonna prove to you on this day summer slam we're going to. I'm gonna prove it to you. So he could use it as a positive here and there. But it's an. It's a, it ends up being thing that torments him? Yes, for his lifestyle period, I think it weighs heavily on it because I think if he if he feels like he didn't get a meal in or he didn't lift as well, then it's just will unfunny now he's gonna. I'm John how rude it's it's over quit. It's I can't do anything right low, and it just goes way down hill for him. So you know, it's an everyday battle. And that's why you know, again, trying to get him regulated and get him on a schedule for any. I mean, any moral set of things insane. Bodybuilders don't have stomach like that even here, he's just messing around unbelievable. So I mean, he has any wants to prove that, but it is, you know, it is a battle. I'm in his head that I think he goes through every day, and I try and relieve as much of that as I can by just saying, hey, man, just get here. I'll take care of the rest. I just need you to show up and you know their days where he can just show up and he can do it. And then there's some other days where he just he just can't get out of his own way. You know what I mean? It starts by Neo as Larne clock doesn't go off and then they don't have as favourite monster at seven eleven. And then it takes him an extra ten minutes. He misses an exit. He does whatever he does. And then by the time he gets there, it's yeah, it's pretty much over before it started at sometimes..

"The the McDonald's has so terrible that they have to press in a smell to it gives it did Scott zero taste. So they have this thing that the press the the sent into, and that's the thing that gives it tastes so. There's a plant in New Jersey that does that. I, I would. Out bet. It's probably the states all the same thing. That's weird. It's yeah. Great. We were talking about Jeremy and outstanding performance. Then we got onto grilled cheese, and we were showing some videos of him lifting with wrestling wrestling Mexican wrestling mask. Yes, with. I thought you weren't supposed to reveal their doctor with doctor. Deadly tucked did lift Kayla Woollam, and they were going back and forth and having a deadly battle. And part of the reason why I asked them to wear those masks because like at the time, nobody knew who they were, you know, and with Jeremy. He's still getting his name out there. Dr dead lift is dead lifted over nine hundred pounds, and he's getting a lot of awareness on social media Jeremy's getting a lot of weariness now on social media, but for a long time, these guys were pulling big weights lifting these use wait sacrifice interviews, and I was just like, man, this is crazy that people don't know who these guys are. I think this time killer had the one world all-time world record and people still the no valley was he just had had no clue. So we had them have this, this crazy battle. Is there anything different that Jeremy doesn't training than some other people. Yeah, he doesn't show up half the time and you know, leaves halfway through sometimes. Like I said, when he's on like Ocho Cinco when he's on, he's about as good as a cat. When he's Everson he's about as you know as office it kinda get. So. This meat, I'm, I was really, really pleased with how the meat went. I mean, for number of different reasons. But you know, he worked when he works. Hardy works really hard, but there was a time about five weeks prior where he tried to look for four zero five, and he couldn't do it jeeze and he told me the psych. Yeah, I'm gonna probably just tell them that I don't really know what's going to go on. I don't know what's going to happen whatever. And you know, knowing Jeremy and you know, being able to get to work with him for a while, you know, it's half of it might be in his head, but there's, there's still a decent possibility that have it might actually be real hurt and he can't do it right. But you know, once once he settled down and you know, got into a little bit of a groove with training. You know it. It makes a lot of sense as body really likes to be as much as he doesn't like to be regulated and have a lot of things in order. His body really responds well to that. So like he made the humane the joke, like man, this whole sleep apnea mass that I'm trying to force them. Aware now really fucking with my sleep schedule. I'm going to bed at eleven and waking up at seven. I'm totally screwed. Totally screwed up now. So usually just kind of rolls in at the crack and noon, you know, probably grabbed a beef jerky stick and you know, monster from seven eleven, and that's how he kind of starts day. And then he comes to the gym and does whatever it he and he's got a of muscle on him to town. Yeah, I don't know if I don't think he's ever at his body fat kinda taken, but the guy's got somehow probably hack on his back. Never seen anyone back. Look that shit's really weird. Only posts like stuff on Instagram him doing like pull ups or something like that. It's like what the hell is coming out of his back. Yeah, it's a, it's again, kind of just a unique structure and just a unique build. I mean, aside kind of joking aside, we know you know he's different and we and we laugh because just people that have been around Jeremy just know like ADHD times a million, right? Yes. But is there. Still something there that like is there some sort of drive that that you've seen from other people that have world records just like we didn't really see that from Eric spo- let's say, right, right..
