"Well of course it is. But i would also say that There's a reality that the taliban is currently controlling large swaths of afghantistan that is a reality on the ground and right now our focus and our priority is getting americanised citizens evacuated and our afghan partners evacuated. And i would say given the numbers that we've outlined and brief for you That we've had made a great deal of progress in doing exactly that. And we i mean and so yes i mean. The answer is yes. We are negotiating with terrorist. Because they hold the whip hand over us and there's been a complete reversal here between the the sort of vision of what the american military is actually for and what democrats apparently believed the american military's for democrats in the aftermath of the vietnam war. They said we can't treat the military like garbage anymore because it was really bad for us politically so instead we'll treat the military as though they are victims and so our sole job is to protect the military for actually having to do anything every time. There's a foreign deployment. Our chief goal is to not be in there right. Were basically to make work program. According to many democrats now if you ask members of the military they're not into it members the military no what they signed up for what they signed up to defend american citizens. I can think of no greater situation requiring military defense of american citizens then hundreds thousands of american citizens stuck behind enemy lines in kabul probably a hundred yards away from where the american military sits. I mean typically in american history. This would be good. Time for america's military might to overwhelm the people who are in the nearby pick up the americans. And then if you wanna leave you leave. But because the logic has shifted because in the minds of democrats the military they would rather sacrifice american civilians in kabul then risk american military going out to save the american civilians in kabul. That's where we're at right now. And by the way the logic is so insane that we have now come to the point where the logic was not even oregon risk american military lives to save american citizens and kabul the logic several months ago was are we going to leave americans in afghanistan where their lives are not at risk or are we going to pull them out in order to say that we protected them remember. There have been zero. Combat casualties afghanistan for the united states. Since february of twenty twenty you are significantly more likely to die as a cop in chicago. Then you're to die as a soldier in afghanistan between february twenty twenty and today he so what exactly was the logic and the answer is there was no logic. It is all pr and in the end. It's about a real embarrassment at america having a footprint anywhere and our enemies know this a meanwhile we've got planes that are leaving empty from kabul. There is it. The i mean we're people out. And this was one plane that just left from kabul all empty seats completely empty seats. So what is the biden administration doing. Well they're torturing people like eric prince so blackwater founder. Eric prince reportedly was was charging. Sixty five hundred bucks for people to escape afghanistan and And sake decided that it was time to yell. And eric prints i've question. Who would you. Let's say that you are a person. Frank escape afghanistan. And here are your choices. Either you pay erc print sixty five hundred dollars to leave or you stay. Those are your choices. There's no third choice. Where the american government does its job. Where you angrier at eric prince forgetting you out or the american government for sucking so much at this that they couldn't get you out. I love the misdirection here. Jen psaki wished unleash the dogs of war on the eric prince for charging money to get people out of there. By the way you know who can pay that bill these folks we're gonna spend what five trillion dollars this year. You're telling me that we then we can make a bargain with every prince. Spent five thousand dollars ahead to get americans out of there. Here is a. Here's jen psaki going after prince. Anyway.

Steve Bannon's arrest has tertiary ties to video games

"Former thirty eight studios CEO curt. Schilling was involved in the build a wall pack. The thing that just led to former Donald Trump advisor, steve bannon getting arrested. This is just a weird tangentially related to video games news story that is just so strange and it also kind of goes to show that if curt schilling is involved in a company, that's probably a good reason to not invest any money. So for the. Non Video game side of the story former President Donald Trump advisor Steve Bannon was arrested this morning for issues related to a crowdfunding campaign. He was involved with that was raising money to build a wall between Mexico and the United States of America. The campaign raised over twenty, five million dollars, but apparently, the money was being used for personal gain Audrey Strauss the acting us attorney for the southern district of New York said. The. Defendants defrauded hundreds of thousands of donors capitalizing on their interest and funding a border wall to raise millions of dollars under the false pretense that all of the money would be spent on construction while repeatedly assuring donors that Brian Cole fade the founder and public face of the We build the wall would not be paid a cent. The defendants secretly schemed to pass hundreds of thousands of dollars to coalfields, which he used to fund his lavish lifestyle. That quote comes from NPR story. Linked in the show notes. So that's the main part of it but the tangentially related video games side of it comes from Edward Isaac Dove Air From the Atlantic on twitter who wrote Crisco Bosch is the General Counsel of the build the wall pack that Steve Bannon was just arrested for being involved in as chairman. The advisory board includes Eric Prince Former Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo Sheriff David Clarke and former pitcher curt schilling curt schilling is predominantly known for being a pitcher in the MLB. I will always know him as the CEO of thirty eight studios, the developer that created kingdoms of Amour with investment funds from the State of Rhode Island, which he neglected to return when required, which ultimately doomed the developer and the kingdoms of Ahmir franchise though then might be making comeback soon, there's a, there's a remake rerelease on the way. It's really gross that money was being raised to build a wall which as near as I can tell is thankfully nowhere near fruition and it's totally unsurprising that it is all collapsing under the weight of its founders deciding to just try and keep the money for themselves. Rock steady responds to recent sexual harassment issues with kind of a weird public statement. The publication. The Guardian recently released a story about sexual harassment issues at develop a rock steady games and how the company had not taken proper action when women within the studio went directly to its leadership wants the article was published rock steady apparently began to take action internally and called a studio meeting but the developer also released kind of strange statement on twitter. Here's the statement in full working on. Our response to the recent news, we received the following unsolicited letter eight out of ten people that sign of the original two, thousand, eighteen letter or still rock steady. The following unedited letter below is from seven of those people. Please note that all involved do not wish to have their identity disclosed publicly under any circumstances. This statement is sent in representation of the current women at rock steady studios who were. Working at the studio in two thousand eighteen who signed a letter regarding issues being faced by female employees. The statement has in no way been asked for or influenced by management or anyone else. This is solely the voices of those involved who are still currently employed by rock steady. We all feel the need to respond to this and to reflect what actually happened at the time and how this has been. Handled since recently, an article was posted in the Guardian regarding this letter, which was sent to the studio heads and HR in two thousand eighteen in addition to multiple other accusations. In this article, we feel that the anonymous source or sources attempted to speak on behalf of all women at rock steady, and we do not feel that this article is a fair representation of us the events at the time or. Since the letter was received when the letter was received by the studio immediate action was taken, which resulted in a series of meetings with the women of the studio to allow us a safe space to talk about any issues we were facing figuring out strategies to resolve these issues and what the studio could do going forward continued efforts have been made to ensure that we have a voice within our. Working, within the studio ranging from involvement, specifically with how our characters are represented to workshops to help build self-confidence within male dominated industries. Throughout all of this, a firm promise has been made that there always an open forum for us to speak out net issues would be addressed with seriousness none of the current female employees at the studio who are involved with the letter were contacted about this letter being released. To the media until we were informed by the studio at the time of working through the original letter with the studio, we were assured that this would be kept as a private matter. As this was what we had collectively requested we feel that our privacy and witches have been disregarded and a private matter has been made public. This has left us feeling that we have been violated by the source or. Sources as it was kept private for personal reasons, twelve involve not to industry secrecy. We would like to conclude this statement reaffirming the importance of any minority within the games industry to speak up and four studios to take seriously as rock steady did at the time and continues to do any allegations being brought forward to work towards creating safe environments for us to work in so that we can make games.

So Many Protests

"What's the level beyond tea party like? What's the next big boss so okay? Idaho's Idaho Freedom Foundation. I'm not sure who really the big bosses. I don't know fits Betsy Devos's family. Yeah they're definitely part of it. Her brother Eric. Prince is the head of Blackwater. Yeah so far right wing conservative family that wants to get public education and who own their own army. Yeah there's shock. Yeah yeah this is a family who wants to privatize everything brave. Because they've already shown how they can privatize and military exactly yeah. I don't know how well known it is but all of those numbers on how many troops are in Iraq. Were all about half with the real numbers were because of Blackwater and quote Mercenary Contractors. No of course mercenaries. Yeah Yeah and so anyway the the Devos and the Prince family are. They're actively involved in all of this funding some of the groups in particular the group that that's behind the Michigan New York Virginia rallies that Donald Trump tweeted about right because he had his own hand. I'm sure in making those I mean. He's actively said that. Oh Yeah He. He's actively saying that. He has all of the power. Not The governor's but the governors have to be doing everything and we should be doing all this sheltering in placing and not shutting out of these businesses but liberate these states because Second Amendment right which is a convoluted convoluted convoluted argument at best. It's not even a convoluted argument. It's it's not even an argument. He's you can't say trump can't say that he has absolute control over this because he doesn't especially when he also follows that with the. I'm completely not responsible for any of this right. He's trying to have his cake and eat it too. Which only works with far right wing groups that are being funded by a family that gets their money from government contracts war profiteering Yup and I mean today. The day of recording. We We had a big protest down the neighborhood. Park Kleiner Park in Meridian. It was a bunch of women in their kids. They're all playing on the playground. Equipment Co. Cram packed in there Because it was public property and they had a right to have access to it It was also funded by Freedom Foundation. And that's that's a logical follow-up to the protests that happened on Saturday on the purchase happened on Saturday with more than a thousand people in attendance at the Idaho State Capitol the Idaho. Freedom Foundation was the main group behind it but there were libertarians. Gun rights groups anti VACs groups all. They're waving their flags. Yeah it was. It was not a pretty scene. There is a lot of hostility. There were people being abused. Beaten I wouldn't say beaten but there is a couple of people who got pushed around and the cops protected the whole time. The people are getting pushed around or the people doing the pushing of the people. Doing the pushing no the people who were there protesting the cops are there to make sure that nobody got really hurt. But that didn't stop these people from hurting people who were protesting their protest. Yeah and a lot of these people were carrying guns. Yeah it was open. Carry season out there. It was which because that's what that's really about. Which if you're having a I know there are people who would argue this. But in my opinion a protest with guns is not a peaceful protest. No because the gun automatically is a sign of intimidation not right. If it's I mean that's how I feel if you have a rally with a bunch of people with guns that scary. Yeah with people with guns. That looks to me. A Lot. Like a military formation a rebel group of militia a peaceful protest in this case they weren't marching basically a peaceful protests. There does the other side feel that they can also protest so do you have equal protests anti protest groups going on in protests. Like this one where there was a lot of open Kerry. There was a lot of angry yelling people. There was no chance for an anti protest to develop because those people would have been in actual danger right and the whole point of this protest was too loudly and very aggressively. Threatened the government. Yeah and got away. Scot-free technically everyone in that protest committed a misdemeanor by being there yet but committee and getting charged with and actually be punished for are very different and also. There's no way that the state of Idaho could arrest more than a thousand people. Oh please tell me that. There's no way to tell if even five percent of them have guns. Yeah Yeah. It's really frustrated. Heather Scott from northern Idaho was of course all behind it. It's just it blows my mind that she's running that nobody's running against her so she's guaranteed in for the next. You know what the. Hell

Is there another show like this? Eric prince, no, there's not another show like it. Now, Eric you went to Yale. When you tell girls that you went to Yale after you got at a school. Did this help the dating situation a very common situation is that they didn't believe me. I don't know if it's, you know, being American that they would you know, how could they have let you in the long standing kind of anti Irish prejudice. But that was a common thing, and it was okay for a while. Because I actually you know, I had the student ID. But unfortunately, my wallet was stolen when I was elected stupidly in a car while I was hiking, and then I didn't have the idea anymore. So, you know, they would say, well, you know, I don't believe you and in the past I would produce. My, you know, ID card, but then, you know, now, I say, okay, you got me. I was loving. So then we all you know, I guess they they felt like they had called me. No, you grew up in New Jersey. Where's the best hotdog? Eric prince. You know, I I know it's blasphemous, but I was never a big hot dog person. So where's the best pizza? Where's the best? That's pizza. I always liked dealer Enzo whereas that. I was like Freddie's in in Ewing. So kind of some of the central New Jersey has a sucker for the tomato pies. Yes. Very big in upstate New York, by the way now as well up there. Yeah. Connecticut New Haven there a lot of talk of the pizza up there as well. But I'm I'm I prefer the jersey tomato five. Yeah. It's a lot of nonsense up in Connecticut. They got one thing they got one thing. One pizzeria New Haven, and they're supposed to be the official state for pizza. I don't think so. One of the nutmeg state. What's what's that? We don't know. Well, you know, I I guess people will, you know, we have a culture where you know, you you do what you can to to get head find it. You know, I find it concerning. I think it's probably emblematic of a situation where it's kind of looting before I think, you know, we put a little bit too much premium on where somebody goes to college. You know, where where did you go to school at some sort of, you know, huge thing. And I figured I figured that. When a Yale graduate says to another Yale graduate. Hey, I went to Yale you to instantly bond identify and respect each other's that true. Or is this my? You would think you would think I you know, I that would be ideal. But sometimes, you know, there might be, you know, differences of opinion. What what group were you in? Where did you live with a lot about that place? You live. They didn't have the best. You know, the best lighting or whatever. So I I don't know. It would be nice. If there was that kind of you know, camaraderie, but I'm not sure how true it is across the board. I don't know. "He figured very prominently in the dossier, of course, for allegations that now appear not to be true that he had had tended to meeting and frog that related to to kind of arranging payment around the Russian hacking of so I would suspect that the FBI was onto him early. And that when Muller took over it was one of the first targets, they went very aggressively. After I think it's remarkable that this is this is the second day in a row we've seen evidence on someone in the president's inner circle being investigated for potentially being unregistered foreign agent, and it's showing up in a search one application. Remember yesterday propublica reported that Elliott Brady another RNC finance chairman like Michael Cohen also is under investigation now by the criminal division because he was referred by Muller in the same way that Cohn was referred to ST. And why there is are all of these people around the president. Who are being investigated for money laundering, and for acting as a foreign agent. Among other crimes were only now beginning to find out things that they're not necessarily charged with. But which they at least had probable cause to get a search warrant, Christina meth point here. I think is an important one. Which is there's so much focus on Russia because Russia is is the foreign power that pulled off this this massive criminal conspiracy, sabotage and try to get one personal acted against another. But when you look at it's the amount of foreign penetration of this campaign. I mean, Manafort recreates or working for Ukrainian Russian interests might go Flynn's taking undisclosed sums from Turkey to write an op Ed Vance Turkish interests on election day, someone GOP lobbyist who's already pleaded guilty for legal straw donors. Eric prince, George Nader, I mean, you've got all of these foreign interests were trying to get in the door and Trump world. And it feels like we don't know the full story about all them. I don't think we do and the bottom line is that foreign in. Interest pay more money because it's harder for them to gain access in the first place. So I think another thing we saw today was a portrait of Cohen that he would prefer we not see as he's testifying before congress, which is a guy who after ten years of schlepping after Trump and cleaning up his legal messes finally was in a position to become a power broker in his own, right? Was to begin to begin selling this kind of access. He was becoming the kind of guy who can charge one hundred thousand dollars for a couple of phone calls. There was an interesting detail today in one of the filings that Cohen spent more than one point five million dollars of his three million that he took in twenty seventeen. So that was just gone. But part of what he spent it on was membership at a super elite Wall Street club called the core club, which has members like Steve Schwartzman and Steven Cohen two billion very private billionaires club. And that's. Fifty thousand dollars initiation fee, that's one of the things that his money towards so you really got a picture of this guy who has kind of coming out and ready to cash in on the make there's also there's also the other striping thing. Matt here is just the scope of what they got this. I warrant information be disclosed by Google they want emails drafts metadata IP addresses context. Counter pictures and file search and web history cookies related records like they start hoovering up. A lot of info about this guy. Very early on. Yeah. Look, it's always I know people outside the Justice department, always amazed. "She has more than enough in her. Menu of things to look at to sentence. Paul Manafort to a high sentence that I think he deserves without sort of being influenced by public outrage that doesn't I mean, she's human. She's going to hear about it. She may be outraged herself, or you know, or not, but I don't want judges one way or the other to necessarily mean that's federal judges are supposed to be pretty impervious to public opinion in that way. So I think she'll judge Manafort based on him, and these facts, and what she sees in this case and him as a person, but not necessarily because of the sort of public outcry well in touch Tron in your reporting just looking at the way Trump world is viewing what happened with ls and Manafort seeming sense of impunity, how confident are they that Manafort is going to continue to be team. Trump is going to essentially kind of get away with a lot of it. And maybe even get a pardon as a reward. Well, he really has already. Gotten away in some way with a lot of it. I mean, there are so many secrets that Paul Manafort will be going to jail with just by virtue of the fact that he did not cooperate fully with Muller's team. Right. So in many ways, if there was anything that the Trump campaign and Trump world wanted to hide with regard to what Paul Manafort was doing on. The campaign has communications with Constantine Kalinic is changing of the platform at the GOP convention at cetera et cetera. Then it doesn't seem like we're ever going to learn about that because Paul Manafort lied. He not only did not cooperate fully he actually lied to the special counsel. And I think that one of the reasons why judge Jackson is probably poised to give Manafort a little bit a steeper sentence than what Ellis gave him is. Because she saw a side of him that Ellis didn't necessarily see right. She saw the witness tampering. She saw that he was drafting an op Ed in violation of a gag order. When he first. Went to when he was first charged with this conduct. She saw that even though he wanted to forgo a trial and said that he would cooperate with Muller that he did the exact opposite of that. So like me said, I think she will take all of this into account. But I don't think we should hold our breath on learning. Anything more about what he may have done. And what the Trump team may have known about it. We did learn something because of a reduction air about his giving polling data to Constantine Kalinic to give to whoever. I mean, we really don't know who can limit gave that to at this point. But there seems to be kind of a dead end there. And I think people are going to find it very unsatisfying on less Muller is able to glean more information from Rick gates manafort's longtime associate that he can then put in his final report. Yeah. Looks look through very quickly. We know that also you have Michael Flynn who attempted to float that apparently get rid of the sanctions piece deal for Ukraine, potentially. Some financial benefit. You also Eric prince who made it very stunning admission in an interview brilliantly done by Mehdi Hassan at all aljazeera English lip. Let's listen to that right now really quickly. This is the prince interview piece of it. But I might have been I think it was at Trump headquarters or the campaign headquarters stood 2016 usable and is really dude. A buck gentle to the morale on the Saudis, don't June. You were there to talk about Iran policy. Don't you think that's something important to disclose house intelligence committee, while you're on drove did you didn't we just went through the testimony? "This is happening right now in two thousand nineteen in the country where we get all books an iphone from. I also can't imagine a more self defeating policy than repressing grew like this in it is likely to radicalize him. And I don't say radicalized, they're Muslim. I mean, look at northern island. Right. It doesn't matter. If you're you're a Catholic Protestant living somewhere if you were completely repressed by government that things are going. But I think that's I mean is that a bug or is that feature told me because there's an argument that says the Chinese woman to want to kind of you know, Bush Alaska, the argument with outside was a ways he liked having. He liked having radicalized up when he was able to point to the Syrian rebels who not al-qaeda he was always able to point to folks and say, well, look, I'm fighting a war on terror and the Chinese since nine eleven have seen the war on terror rhetoric of Bush and off to the unfortunately, you'll boss and Trump today as a way of basically, you know, shutting this story down as an issue, and therefore, you know, so for example, straight off the nine eleven when everyone was talking about Al Qaeda, the Chinese government turned up at the UN, and they're like, well, we've got our own al-qaeda outlet, if what the east tuck estan Islam ick movement. The no one had ever heard of this group, and the Chinese government set up the oats a week a terrorist organization and within a year by September two thousand to the UN and the. The US had listed the ATM as a terrorist organization why because they were linked to bin Laden. So it's been very useful for repressive governments to always say, well, I'll a dissident minority is linked to Al Qaeda bin Laden ISIS. They're full do what we want with them. And they have they have conveyed the entire league situation through the discourse of the war on terror one. Last question, I survive long these same lines. You recently interviewed Eric prince who is best known as the founder of blackwater, which was a private militia force that was responsible for murdering seventeen innocent civilians and one Horford incident in Iraq on top of a whole bunch of other problems, Bloomberg reported that his new companies been higher to build a training center in that same region of China where the weeks are being held for some reason, he agreed to do an interview with you. I will never understand why these guys go on your show when they don't temple. He denied this report despite it being in his own companies press release. Do you believe him? No. I don't believe him because he's prints, and I did a along with them in front of an audience, and he was very hush. I put it Trumpian in his approach to truth and falsehood. He's the brother of Betsy DeVos. He's a big Trump Donna, and yes, he boroughs. The Trump rhetoric of just saying things of fake news and misreported with me as well. And if people wanna listen to the clip, he says, oh, that's a mistranslation from Mandarin on Alstom about, you know, his company building training facilities, and I had to point out to it wasn't a mistranslation from under and we literally printed in English of his own company website. But you know, this is the thing they think is things that people at him and Kellyanne Conway another thing they can get away with just saying brazen falsehoods. And hoping the journalists went challenge them. I did challenge him. And you know, I don't believe him. I do think he's doing dodgy stuff engineering he denied any role in any of these detention counts. He says would just training people in how to avoid getting kidnapped but his company's majority owned by Chinese entities. Linked to the Chinese government. Think about that. This is Eric prince fullness of blackwater close Trump ally has been interviewed by Bob Mullah wants to get a contract to run the war in Afghanistan. That's his latest proposal to privatize the war in Afghanistan. Some mercenaries run the war in Afghanistan, full the US. I mean think about that conflict of interest. Where are the charges against them for being unregistered foreign agents? Yeah. Exactly. A little static there. You're not gonna find anything. You're not gonna find anything because they are not prosecuting the Democrats, I've told you from the start the whole intention the Muller probe is to keep the heat in the attention on Donald Trump for fictitious connections to foreign governments for Manafort and taking money from Ukraine while ignoring the exact same connections or the exact same money trail on the democrat side. None of this bothers anybody in the media. They've completely ignored this folks you have to understand. Ukraine was a was a magnetic financial money poll for people in the political space. "Okay. So then you've got the Russians are doing something that looks very much like this. You have a firm trove by this guy meeting with Trump with Don, jR, use these other figures who reading the stored reminded me that these people were interviewed by the special counsel under sort of floating out there. There's this guy named George neater. Who's an extremely sketchy guy who has floated around who has a record who has connections the Russians and very Middle Eastern regimes. You got Eric prince the X blackwater founder brother, Betsy DeVos. They all both of those people Nater Zumel, the guy you're talking about and prints Muller has talked to all of them my right? That's right. Eric prints confirm to me on the record a few months ago that he was fully cooperating with them. Solar investigation that he was telling Muller what he knew about the Russian efforts to interfere in the twenty sixteen presidential election. Now publicly prince says that he didn't know much at all and at the sales meeting that he had was not about setting up any sort of back channel. But he's on the record saying that he has participated in the molar probe another piece of this. It's important to remember as we're putting together the context of how all these dispirit different moving parts might make sense that particularly with this Wicky strat thread, part of the reason that we thought the internal communications where they were discussing. Social media manipulation were important is that the people working Wicky strat at the time. Who show these communications to said? Yeah. In retrospect, that does sound important one guy impeded Marino was an analyst for Wikki strat who spoke to me on the record about this and who's participated in that effort that we reviewed told me that at the time. He thought it seemed not unusually thought it seemed like the kind of conversation political. Scientists would have. Have. But then he said in retrospect reviewing what he had wrote reviewing his own work and reviewing the way his work compared to what the Russians were doing. He told me that he thought it was disturbing. Woodrow, thanks for joining the great reporting still to come on the president's most celebrated chievements promise to bring thousands of good old-fashioned, manufacturing jobs, Wisconsin. Now, it might not happen after all the Foxconn walk back next. Number one. The president went to Wisconsin to announce what he was calling the eighth wonder of the world the signature Trump deal was a deal with the Chinese tech company Foxconn to bring a Chinese factory into the US to reverse thirty years of bad trends. Moments ago, we broke ground on a plant that will provide jobs for much more than thirteen thousand Wisconsin workers. I had this incredible company going to invest someplace in the world, not here, less -sarily. I will tell you. They wouldn't have done it here except that I became president. So that's good. This plant will manufacture state of the art LCD's, adding an average of three point four billion dollars to the state's economy every single year. I wanna wish you good luck. And congratulations on truly one of the eighth wonder. I think we can say this is we can say the eighth wonder of the world. This is the eighth wonder of the world, the eighth wonder of the world or one of them critics at the time raise questions about the deal, including the fact that Foxconn was getting more than four billion dollars in state subsidies that the terms of the deal were secret that the cost per. Job was at best nearly three hundred fifty thousand dollars and at worst around one point five million dollars per job. And then the news started coming out that maybe I'll Trump Taj Mahal or Trump university. It was all too good to be true. I the Wall Street Journal reported the company was considering importing Chinese engineers instead of hiring Americans that two weeks ago Foxconn set it may slow the pace of recruitment at its Wisconsin plant and now today, the company says it's reconsidering its plan to make LCD screens at that plant at all that would mean, none of the manufacturing jobs..

You're like, I don't get this. Where you go. This is confusing began. This is a setup. The Trump team was set up. Eric prince who is Betsy DeVos, Trump cabinet officials brother-in-law Eric prince went to a meeting in this shells at one point the allegations. And in fact, Trump's wall will not work and both sides of the aisle already voted on sensible solutions for voters security border security. It's already there is wanna say media do not lose sight of the fact that experts and border security say that we do not need Trump's wall. It will not work. It's a waste of money. Keep reminding people of that stay grounded in the facts what Stephen Miller Trump and an colder what they essentially want to do is put up a long row of giant burning crosses on the border. "That was not the case he is now on his way out or is he out? Yeah. I think he got fired earlier he was pushed I'll got fire. Fired or quit or anyway, he is now at believe departed. It's hard to keep up with this because they keep changing the dates of when are going to play out. But you know, and there were some a couple of resignation letters, which people are reading, I don't know if they're reading too much into it. You know, there's kind of a debate about how effective was Mattis at controlling Trump. And you know, I basically think that this whole adults in the room shit was a myth. I think John Kelly was a bigot in an incompetent. And I'm glad to see him go. I felt similarly about McMaster. But Mattis was basically the closest thing we had. And I've always believed that he was accidents hired. I think that Trump saw this military guy who had a catchy nickname was called mad dog. And he had all these bad ass catchphrases. And you know, he cast him. He cast him in the administration and he accidentally hired a qualified. Person because you know, whether or not you agree with Mattis's political positions or somebody who's had a lifetime of public service experience in his qualified for the role, and he is now gone leaving the administration with the aforementioned nepotistic, hires, criminals, incompetence and acting officials. So what do you think the repercussions of this are of the loss of Mattis? I think a big loss because he was very good at what he did. And he's very good for Ukraine and call Spadea spay when it came to Ukraine, and he really did something that must have driven Putin crazy, which was Mattis spent Ukraine's independence day in Kiev watching the military parade, and by Putin standards. That's like a massive insult that must have infuriated Putin when Madison that to have the secretary of defense chewing such strong statement of support like that right in Kiev. During the day parade, and he was very strong in saying Ukraine finally needs defensive aid after having its military crippled by Krupp kovic, and he was forceful in pointing out that this was Russia. Invading ukraine. This wasn't so called Russian back rebels. Was Russia the Russian military invading Ukraine, and so very strong, Ukraine. It's very big loss for Ukraine, and so you don't have to wonder with Mattis gone and somebody that without military experience in his place. Whether that is going to allow as we keep talking about this vacuum of power, the inner circle to come in and really enrich themselves whether air prints and his private mercenary army, very big business there whether Eric princes professional army is going to be filling the void. And so that's quite scary. And Eric prince wanted to set up that back channel meeting with the Kremlin and the Trump team in sexual that's. "And it's unclear whether he'll do it or whether he'll just speak in court. But I think some kind of report about obstruction of Justice at the minimum is likely to come at the end of this. And I think that's all likely to happen in the first few months of this year. I think we will probably see some of that stuff sooner rather than later and start to see kind of the in game for the Muller investigation. In terms of what it means big picture hard to say because I do think back to this thing we talked about a minute ago, the president's political viability. I think depends on this question of is there clear compelling evidence that he committed a crime that Muller can present or that the southern district York can present. And I do think the southern district York will have more to say this year. I think I don't see how they just let go of the crimes they think he committed and wait and hope that he doesn't that? He isn't reelected. I think there's an obligation on them to present those facts publicly or present them to congress. And then I'll say the other big thing. We don't know is all these other threads of the Muller. In that we see little pieces of the a piece around Elliott Brady, and George Nader which involve among other things this meeting in the Seychelles with Eric prints. Eric prince appears very clearly to have lied to congress is he facing charges. There are a number of threads where we just see little pieces of them when they break into public view. We don't know whether they all at the end of this are there criminal charges for those people that are independent from the Russia issue, or is it all one big vast conspiracy that kind of melts together, I have no idea. I don't think any of us do because we haven't seen the evidence. But I don't think this is something that lasts. I think we know the answers to all these questions. Well, before two thousand nineteen is over do you think that there's a chance at all that Muller went petition to indict petition that department of Justice? I think it's unlikely I think he will respect the oil see opinion. We'll see it is look if oil see has, you know, has a pine this way. It's not my. Position to request a different outcome. But one of the things about the oil c- opinion for it to be true that the president can't be indicted while he's in office. And I don't think that that's true. But it doesn't matter what I think because we'll see gets to decide for DOD DOJ for that to be true. There has to be some other mechanism of accountability. And that's congress. It doesn't mean congress has to impeach him. They get to make their own decision. But I think for that to be true it inherent in that is that all of the evidence or any evidence that the department of Justice has about crimes by the president. And I think that means both crimes that Muller fines and crimes that Estienne y fines and they've clearly found some crimes by the president ST. And why has it all has to be turned over to congress because otherwise that oh Elsie memo means the president is above the law, and that just can't be true in a democracy where rule of law is one of the cornerstone foundations of the nation. Okay. When hopes that is optimistic that almost repairs your reputation for saying, everyone's a cynic and sunny down there. I guess has been Matthew Miller. He is on Twitter at Matthew, a Miller you've gotta follow him. He's a former spokesman for the department of Justice and a political analyst thanks for being here. Matt thanks for having me. And that's it for today's show. Would you think say, hey on Twitter, and let us know he will hear you. I'm at page eighty eight and the show.
