"They know. They know. Good lord. Anyway, let's go to the rodeo. Big D just won rodeo in action under the PRCA and that'd be the Ellensburg rodeo just on the way tonight. Ellensburg, Washington at the Ellensburg rodeo arena. A lot of creativity there. So we got Steer Roping second round. Taylor Santos in 11 seconds flat picked up $1,110 and that's all I got on that rodeo but I'm giving you a rodeo tonight. Hey, big upset in tennis today. US Open action earlier tonight. Dominic Stricker upset world number seven. Stefano Tsitsispas who's been up there, won a few tournaments, 7-5, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3. What a match and quite a big upset. Not an upset for the great Novak Djokovic, ranked number two. He took care of business over Zapata Morales, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 earlier today. And the young ladies, Coco Gauff moves on. She beat Andreeva earlier today, 6-3, 6-2 and Igor Shvitek taking care of business. She's the world number one. She won 6-3, 6-4 over De Seville. So a little baseball scores, Mets and Rangers tied at five, top of the ninth, bottom five, Pirates lead the Royals 3-1. Braves over the Rockies 1-0, bottom three. Finals from earlier today. A lot of finals. Angels over the Phillies 10-8. White Sox over the Orioles 10-5. The Guardians defeated the Twins in 10, 5-2. Cardinals 5-4 over the Padres. Cubs beat the Brewers 3-2. Blue Jays 7-0 over the Nationals. The Reds won today, 4-1 over the Giants out in Frisco. Early game there. Astros 7-4 over the Reds, Red Sox. Mariners 5-4 over the A's. Yankees, two in a row, beat the Tigers 6-2. Rays beat the Marlins 3-0, final in 10. And Diamondbacks and Dodgers coming up at 10-10. Boy, it must have been a real matinee day in baseball. Just get over to his story, Big D. Well, NBA ends social media investigation as ref Eric Lewis retires. ESPN News reporting. NBA referee Eric Lewis is retiring effective immediately, so the league is ending its investigation into his social media activity. We ran this story a little earlier in the year. Before the finals, some now deleted tweets were revealed by a pair of then Twitter users that appeared to show a referee defending himself and other officials against critiques of their work. The league opened an investigation into whether Lewis violated NBA rules by speaking about officiating in an unauthorized manner.

"It's there. What sucks is the WWE and UFC merger ruins my hot take for Francis and Ghana's first fight if he can't get John Jones. But he used to fight Bobby Lashley. Oh, God. Because I think Brock is a rap. But you get Bobby Lashley to come out. I mean, you could. I mean, look, man, you wouldn't want to. Yeah. JK. JK, you're still undefeated. You could get Jake. You get Jake Hager. You'd have to build and like, you'd have to negotiate with Tony Khan be like, hey, can you build that guy up to make him look like a threat? Oh, yeah, yeah, a 100%. But you might do it. It's a domino then has fallen. It's not the biggest domino. It doesn't mean anything yet, but you have to knock one domino down in order to make the other ones go. You have to do something like that, or I don't know, you'd have to get a name, like somebody who's still a name. Yeah. It could be older wash, but you need somebody. If you're going to pay them two mill to move the needle. You just have to get somebody who is about to be out of their contract. And then bring them over. And you have to figure out who that is. I don't know if it's the Eric Lewis rematch. I don't know how long Derek loose is still with. It's going to be with the UFC. I don't know. Data doesn't seem keen to cutting him. He seems to know he likes them. But at a certain point, you got to look at what you're getting paid. And you got to go, um, 'cause they didn't say that my opponent gets 2 million by accident. That was very purposeful. Oh, so the person knows when I jump ship. So if I'm sitting there and I got two stuff in my contract, you either forcing the UFC to pay you or you jumping ship. It's a good place for a lot of people to be. Doesn't mean it's all gonna happen, but you gotta move in order to make things happen for yourself and others, but a move like this was necessary. So it's big, it's big. And people can say, Dana White wasn't affected, but what did he do? He jumped on Twitter and did what? Got to walk the dogs, school drop off, meetings from ten to three. Take kids to soccer practice, then. There goes the extra time for a jog. That's okay. Maybe next week. When everyone else relies on you, it's

"Wow, yes it is. Can confirm and there I am. I'm wearing and then there's mauve. Am I wearing mauve today, purple? What do we call this lavender? Whatever it is. Whatever it is, it's becoming. It's becoming. And I don't think that it's becoming, I know it. That Susie tell you this? No. Okay. No, I don't need that. Here's the thing. I will always, that's the blue check mark I need. Obviously. From suze. I don't need the other blue check mark. I still have it. Apparently, from Susie or Twitter. From Twitter. I'm assuming I've got the other one. Still there, rich. What? The Susie challenge. Look, yours is gone. Are you serious? Are you serious? It's gone. Hold on a minute. Let me see here. I really on live television. Oh, perfect timing. Because you still have it. It's gone. He has it on mine. Really? No, it's gone. It literally just disappeared in front of me. I still have it. I don't know. It's gone on yours. It's gone on mine. Oh my gosh. From the show tank live, rich eisen show. Air, I've lost my check. When I go on mine, 'cause half an hour ago you had it 'cause I looked at your pages on my phone. I have it on my phone. Let's see, hold on a minute. Let's see if it's on the phone. Going on desktop. We're going on desktop. Everybody, everybody just relax. Now it's back. And we've got our mind just disappeared too. Yours was there, then it was gone. Now it's out of here. I got it here. I see it here. Everybody, everybody go back to your homes. There's nothing to see here. I don't know, yours is gone for me. Okay. We'll have to see. They're playing with your favorite. I ain't leaving. I'm not leaving the blue check mark may leave, but I don't need it. I don't need it. By the way, if I do, in fact, lose the blue check mark, I have the I've already, I've already hatched a caper, hatched a plan. So everybody knows it's me. As if the 1.3 million followers that I have built up over time flex, because no, I'm not flexing. I'm not flexing. I'm just telling truth that I've built this up over time providing content on this site over and over and over again and I do use it as well for information gathering of my own part because it is incredibly fast and it is diverse to actually get all of the information in. So I've used it, but I've also placed content on it over and over and over again and the blue check mark that I got years and years and years ago and the blue check marks that are out there and this is the truth. This is the flat out and I know this might come across as something else, but why else would somebody want a blue check mark unless there are tons of content providers who have created the status for it? He wants to charge 8 bucks a month for it. That's you and you want to pay it. That's on you. But if I've lost it, have I lost it? Have I lost it? No, it's back now. Hey. You know what? I feel better about myself because that's all I've wanted as a blue stock market. On my deathbed. This is the rich eisen show. That's another way. But I've created I've created I've created my desktop, it's gone. Okay, fine. I have created a way for people to know that it's my account. As if again, the large number of followers that I have doesn't automatically let you know it's me. Well, even more than that, there's a mug with your name on it. Well, no, I know that. But if you're seeing somebody can absolutely put like what? Like an L instead of an eye. At rich elson and it looks like me and it's the same avatar that I have and anybody wants to actually spend their time doing stupid garbage like that to try and make people think that they're really me. I wish people would have better things to do in their lives than that. A lot of people want to be the rich out of here. You know what? Let's talk about more, let's talk about more important things like a draymond green stomping on people. Stone? He's out tonight. Who are the officials for this evening, Chris? Because they have been lobbied. They have been lobbied significantly. I mean, even kevon Looney says sabonis is not playing any different download than one would think. You're hearing according to Zach Lowe on his podcast that the warriors are letting everyone know that sabonis is using the ball as a weapon. Don't use the ball as a weapon. Whose song was that? Stop using the ball as a weapon. With a Van Halen? Okay. Tonight's officials officials in San Francisco, rich, Eric Lewis, Kevin Scott and Sean Corbin. And rich, I went to ask you about that was pat benatar wrote that song. Thank you. Stop using the ball as a weapon. I want to ask you about it was really odd when she sang that lyric.

"Explored? I would like to see it more of take it out of the coach's hands for a challenge. Take it the right to New York, almost like the NFL does in the final minutes. And the final minute of the game in New York sees a play that is so egregious like that one. They can stop the play and say, yes, we're going to review that, you missed the call. Now, they'd have to look at it because of plays going and that had been like a transition and now boss to get the balls going the other way. How do you stop it and prevent it from going to the lab? Those are things you got to figure out, but I'd like to see if they can explore maybe the final minutes of situations like that where maybe there's a buzzer that the referees have like they do in football and that final minute they just get a buzz like that's revealed once you go take a look at this. Because I think if you have replay, you got to be the point of replace to try to get it right so you don't have the situation. So I would love to see them explore it. I don't want the games to go longer because they are long, but they've got to explore way maybe that it comes from the league office and their New York and the replay center. Well, that's the tradeoff, right? Because, you know, the NBA is obviously very concerned about flow of the game issues. It's why they eliminated the referee initiated replay on out of bounds violations last year because I mean God sitting there for some of those games it seemed like three or four times in the last two minutes you'd have out of bounds violations reviewed and that really gummed up the end of game situation. You make a good point, like what happens if that ball is still in play in a timeout isn't called how do you handle that particular situation. But I do look not to defend LeBron here, but I do understand where he's coming from. I was in LA sitting there during that, what was it a double overtime, game against Dallas, where I think it was the end of regulation, it was pretty clearly filed by Christian wood at the end of that game, and he's one of those players, Billy, that, you know, like Shaq during his heyday, you know, Carmelo was kind of the same way. He draws so much contact that I think sometimes referees just don't know how much of it to call because every time LeBron goes to the basket and by the way, shout out to LeBron, that was a great drive to the basket. He went left on that drive, blew by Malcolm Brogdon, is a good defender. And my biggest issue with that non call was not Eric Lewis, but there was another referee right there, like all the baseline right there and it happened right in front of him. And I get it. We have the benefit of slow motion. We have the benefit of hindsight. But if you're a professional referee, you got to call that. Like that is a pretty clear cut file. And you do, but I'd like to see, was there a player in his line of vision? If he's on the baseline, like you said, he can see it. Did a player go buy it, you know, because a lot of times there was a game I remember we were playing I was in Brooklyn, we were playing Miami. And there was a clear file into the game inbound play, but the referee, his positioning, there was no way to see it. I remember calling the league, said, look, it's a blown call, but and I won't say the referee's name, but there's no way he could have saw it because from his position. So I said, maybe you guys need to look at positioning on invaluable free so they do get a better angle. And that's the only thing where because it was so obvious to me, something had to block the visual, something that he couldn't see it. That's the only way. And to go back to made that point about the replay and that's great. But now that one was so obvious, if they're not obvious and now you're stopping play from the league office, well, we got to take a look at it. Maybe if I may not be filed, now you're taking away transition. So it's going to be a hard situation for the league to step in on that, but maybe that maybe that's one at the end of the game. If it's at the final buzzer, if the league sees something, then they can come in. Maybe it's at the final buzzer that they see something they can do with it. Maybe it's only on that play. And then everyone said, what about the previous play? But maybe it's just in the final play. What are those phone calls? What are those phone calls like? What kind of response is rob polanka getting today if he's on the phone with Joe dumars or Monte mccutcheon or whoever he might be talking to at the league office? The league knows it's a file. Would it just be rob palinka venting at this point? Or is there something constructive that comes from those phone calls? Well, it could be him venting, but if he has another point of view like I did, like maybe the try to say that his positioning wasn't right or there's other things, but from the leak standpoint, they're going to say, yeah, we missed it. There's nothing we can say. Yeah, and they're going to say, why? What did he say afterwards? They said that and they may give a little better explanation of why they missed it. And that's where you could get that from the league. The best one has been raw Thorne was in a position because rob would say, yeah, we missed it, but he would come back and say, but three and four free throws you missed. Previous possession, you could have won the game, you made your free throws or you didn't turn it over, which he was right though, because it's not that one play that cost the Lakers that game. It did because of the fact he would have been on Washington fritos. But a couple more plays or something throughout the fourth quarter, they make different, they met are in that position. So that's the hardest thing. You're dealing with human beings. And if you watch football, it's the same thing in football. Yesterday, sideline Kansas City, they're running down the homes going out of bounds, and he puts them. It was definitely a late hit out of bounds. They win the game. Now, is that the referee's fault? Or is that the player's fault for putting them out of bounds? Yeah. It really sounds like there's no easy answer to this. And try to make as fewer mistakes as you can in those situations. All right. Let's talk about a couple of teams here at crossroads as we get to the NBA trade deadline. The bulls right now as we record this are tenth in the Eastern Conference. They are not a serious contender. Lonzo Ball has been out all season long and Billy Donovan said recently he is nowhere near playing. So I would expect Lonzo at some point around the all star break to be ruled out for the rest of the year. You also can't look at the bulls roster and say it has this enormous upside for years to come. They don't shoot the three. They don't rebound the defense has been slipping the last few weeks. This was a roster Billy to me that was constructed to effectively end a four year playoff drought. But it always felt kind of a cut below real contender status. So here are the bulls are with Nikola vucevic on an expiring contract with demar Derozan with one year left in his contract with a lot of teams interested in Alex Caruso and remember, this is all, you know, this hall is playing out with the backdrop of the Chicago owing Orlando, a top four protected first round pick this year. So if you're our tourist carna slovis, how are you approaching

"Podcast. This is Eric Lewis. And I am here today with Josiah rector, who is an assistant Professor of history at the university of Houston. And we are here to talk about his brand new book. Toxic debt and environmental justice history of Detroit, which was published, I believe last year by the university of North Carolina. Press, it has been reviewed in great depth in the New York review of books, which is quite an achievement for a regular old U.S. historian and review our books very often. So that was pretty amazing. And Josiah has had quite a career already. He won the urban history associations. Michael Katz award for best dissertation in urban history. He's been published in the journal of American history, modern American history, he's been involved in a variety of activist activities as well. And he is really one of the bright young historians in the field of U.S. history. And so we're really happy to have him today and Josiah, thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me, Eric, it's great to be with you. Yeah, could you start by just kind of talking about your book a little bit? Absolutely. Yeah, so this book comes out of dissertation I wrote at Wayne state university. I was a grad student there from 2010 to 2017, and I lived in Detroit for 6 out of those 7 years. And I spent the last 5 years extensively revising it, doing more interviews, doing more archival research, but basically the book is a history of environmental inequality in metro Detroit primarily the city and its inner ring suburbs from the Gilded Age to the COVID-19 pandemic. And I take the story of environmental inequality through the rise and fall of the auto industry into the city's municipal bankruptcy in the 2010s and the sort of recent developments that we can get into if we have time. But basically the punchline of the book as suggested by the title is that

"It's unbelievable, man. I mean, when you have zero points, you can't argue that much. There's a rule, actually. It's in the book. It's very rarely cited, but that would be a good rule. If you got a technical and Eric Lewis was like, you're violated in the you have no points. You need one bucket to address us at any point. Like it'd be just great. There are three minutes into the second quarter and he comes over for a 7th meeting. And they're like, until you score, you can't talk to us. Actually be a pretty good reason. We're talking about it. We should cut down a lot of talk. We should have a spin up podcast where we just talk about grant Williams and interview with different people in the Celtics organization with great wave stories. I told you, right? Did I tell you the story about LeBron? Yeah, yeah, oh yeah, you should tell it though. Okay. Because the person that told it to me was checking in with me today going, I am so excited about all your grant Williams content. You have the freedom to tell the story. I was like, I think I really did. Maybe I just told Bill off the year. All right, so the story goes. And by all accounts, like your answer kind of guy you would want on your team, but it can be a little grating personality wise. And he's big on being prepped on everything too. Like everything and I know all the plays and whatever. So he was on the bench they're playing the Lakers and LeBron was about to inbound and grant gets up and he's like, horns, you know, whatever the set was that he was convinced. He's like, it's gonna be hard. It's gonna be hard. You know, which would be for out of bounds. So just forget my terminology here. But grant was streaming specifically the terminology based on his film prep of what it's gonna be and LeBron looks at him and he goes, no Greg, no Greg. Greg. Greg Williams. It's kind of like what Jackie Mack call me KFC. That's better. We should turn that into a sponsorship. I have a question for you guys. KFC is great on the draft. KFC. Do you think the line is on FanDuel for game 7 Celtic seat? Say Boston minus three and a half. Can I see? I was going to say four and a half. It is Boston by two and a half. Raheem Palmer, new free agent acquisition for the ringer, starting next week. He says since 2003, we've only had two instances of home teams being underdogs in game 7 of the NBA playoffs. They both won too, probably. Can you name the teams? This would be interesting. I would have gotten one of them, I would have forgotten the other. Since how long 2003. So last 19 years. All right, first one. Cyrus saw the 2018 rockets. 5.5 underdogs to the Steph KD warriors and the warriors won. The other one, the 2015 rockets, the game after the jash Smith Corey brewer game, they were two and a half point dogs at home and they won game 7. For the record, despite the Chris Paul allegiance I was not rooting for him in that series in 18. In 18, Hardin canceled it all out. And Chris Paul was heard anyway. Yeah, so I had to excuses. So this is the first time since 2003 that we haven't had Chris Paul involved in an underdog game 7 situation. So he's got to be relieved. That's pretty good. I think this should be even us. Without rob and with smart on one leg and with whatever's going on with grant Williams and the fact that Jimmy's going a little bit and Kyle Lowry kind of came out of his coffin. Yeah, but don't you think this line also reflects the other side of like if Jimmy was that terrible and banged up for three games, what do you expect? But credit van Gundy for saying what I think a lot of us have said, the Thai Lou line about, hey, what's the injury report? Everybody's hurt everybody's playing, okay? There's that. And van Gogh can sound like some old curmudgeon at times, but I actually think he might be more right about the rest of us that are like, oh, this guy's hurt her. That guy's heard of this guy. Oh, he had a bad game. He was her. And sometimes it's true, like we don't really know, but I also think these guys are capable of doing some pretty incredible things that put them in positions to be pro basketball players in the first place. So it's a total guessing game, but I don't think you can only paint it with the what if scenarios with three different Celtics storylines and completely ignore that I think Vegas because the number was so big tonight. They might have been begging you to take the heat because they just think Boston. Yeah. That's the thing. They said the line, they want equal amounts of action. I was driving around listening to Eddie Johnson and Justin turman yesterday and the serious NBA show. Is that your favorite radio show? I think it's great. Anytime I'm driving around, I'm a 100% listener..

"This is Eric Lewis, and I am here with Scotland you and rob Farley, and we are talking about the National Football League. In particular, the NFL Draft, we're presently at time of recording about midway through the second round, and so the Seahawks have already annoyed us. Which is not surprising. So rob Scott, how you all doing? They're doing great. Yeah, rob, what is your beverage of choice today? So I have a L hemorrhoid tequila reposado with fresca. That's very Mexican except that the only thing that would have that fit better in Mexico, which is the true drink of Mexico is not the margarita. It is the tequila with squirt. Oh, yes, yes. Well, squirt and fresco are basically the same drink. Yeah. It's kind of strange because I feel like squirt is a kind of a soda that is completely dropped out of the consciousness of the United States. I guess it's still made, but oh yeah, no, you can still get squirt. Because last time you were down the street was like, that's a man drinking a squirt. It's not something you see very often. So it's like seeing somebody drinking on RC. So yes, in Mexico, that is the thing. So I am drinking here a trillion double dry hot stillings street IPA, which in my view is probably the best brewery in the great state of Massachusetts. So it is very tasty. What about you, doctor loi miu, I know it's a little early on your time, but it is a Friday. Yeah, unfortunately, I do. I've got a goddamn faculty data form that I've got to have done by Monday. "That you've heard my first trip into the land of Tiktok, let's get back to our conversation with Tanja Rene Steadman, entertainment writer for the route. She told me that recently, there's been a push by some black creators to protect what they're creating through copyrights and more. The copyrighting thing is the biggest one that I've heard of so far. But other than that, what I do here is a lot of black creators. Trying to sound the alarms to tiktok itself For basically penalising people, I think would be ideal situation who don't credit these original creators right because they made the platform to credit these creators with the watermark, of course, so that was the original intent, So I think they should go forward with that attempt for sure, because, though they released a statement Which is pretty much the bare minimum, in my opinion, ideally like to see them penalize this sort of fif. All right, talk to me about what An outcome of this strike, you know, might look like because for real, I would like to see, um Megan, the stallion dance Now I'm not going to see until it comes to Twitter because again, Oh, but so once it gets over there, I'll be able to see it. But I am wondering sort of in the context of the strike sort of How many folks are participating and what do they see? As the outcome or the end point that they're going for. It's an interesting point, right? Because even when let's say a tic tac makes a viral video right? It also benefits the artist, right. So Megan the Stallion. The numbers have gone up to the stratosphere, Basically, because of these viral dances with other songs of her, such as Savage, which Chiara Wilson made a dance for, But like In this case, they're not doing a dance at all. And so the numbers aren't as good. So, of course, because making the stallion is a black woman. Of course. I'm rooting for her and her song and I want her to win. So there's like a, you know, an aspect there and basically, in effect there that happens. But then also, you know again, the I think the priority here is the black creators because when we talk about those numbers, the record label is who's you know, ultimately property and benefited from that. You spoke with Kira Wilson last year, Right? She was, She's the one that did the Megan the Stallion Savage Dance. Can you tell me a little bit about that conversation? Kind of what stood out to you? I found her dance and actually recreated it myself. I think I put it on instagram or something before this was before I created my own tiktok account, which I have now her dance stood out to me because it was so catch. He was easy to learn. It was so fun. She was so fun. I loved her facial expressions. She actually said this to me that she always have these very animated facial expressions when she's dancing, But we did have that conversation about the appropriation of Tic Tac because it started with the renegade dance. And so that conversations within the New York Times and with tiara, you know, we were able to continue that conversation. And so she definitely made that point about while she may not, you know, no, every white tiktoker and where they get that from, she definitely noticed the trend that these dances that they create they Blow up into the stratosphere, but without them benefiting from it like maybe you'll get a little a little sponsorship here or there, but then it's not at the level that these Addison Rays are getting at all. Is it possible that the white folks just don't realize that this is what they're doing? I don't think so. Not not anymore because I think even Addison Rae made a comment or statement notifying everybody that yes, you should uplift and support these black creators. But again, I think it's a bit of virtue, signaling because I don't think anything was actually done about it. You know, I feel like it. Maybe it was, you know something to to alleviate any backlash against her personally in her p r, But I think it would be ideal if some, like organized effort with these people with these creators who have this privilege to then. Lean back and pull these black readers up, use their privilege use their platform to do so. So just let me back up a little bit. Because I'm I want to get off just a little bit of, um, the sort of big history of tiktok here. So the dances has this been in part of a quarantine thing, like, Has this been about us being home and having really nowhere else to go in debts except her own living rooms. You know what? I think they had a huge impact on it. The lockdown definitely did. Even following this. This is journey with black Tiktokers. I have definitely lauded them over and over for their creativity. I mean, and that was just a dances. But with these editing skills, you probably saw a few videos that went viral with how these creators edit their videos, and they're so creative and it's so so big that big again big corporations are seeing these things such as Disney, you know, are seeing these things and seeing their talent. I'm like there's so much, you know, undiscovered talent here and they're able to do this on this platform. And and that's what's the beauty of this platform is like this universal way of getting out there. But again, I think there are some other underlying factors that makes you know this, uh, pretty much the standard of white supremacy keep going, even with something that seems universal. All right. I'm going to make my 19 year olds sit down and actually get me on Tiktok. Who should I be? Who should I be? Following? Is that a thing? Is that what you do? Do you follow people? How does that work? Yes, Yes, you should. You should definitely follow, like the Chiara Wilson's. That's a lot of comedians that are that are out. There were black Tiktok. There's uh, Eric Lewis is a great one that I mentioned before. There's so many great ones on itself. Even black tiktok. If you follow that hashtag, you will find a whole bunch of, you know. Things that would definitely tickle your fancy. And I would love Melissa to see you create one of the dances that they do in the future. No, no, no, no, not no. Mm. I mean, I feel like I I feel like I could hear my husband right now hearing this segment and being like, uh, that woman is not your friend. Do not let her talk you into that. Uh, Tanja. Rene Sted, um, is an entertainment writer for the root and has just laid down a gauntlet of a challenger. I don't know. I I just my soul might have to do this. Think so much time to thank you so much. Melissa. It's.

"Of black artists. Paving the way for a white performers success is hardly uncommon in the entertainment industry in recent years. This pattern has emerged time and time again on tiktok black creators and bene- dance white users. Perform that dance and the influencers who get the most followers and money out of these viral crazes typically end up being white. Now we of us in march when influence our addison. Rae went on the tonight. Show with jimmy fallon to teach. The host dances that have mainly been created by black people and in response to the backlash over raise. Appearance fallon invited. The creators of those dances on his show the following week on our last show before break. We did a bit with addison. Rae where she taught me. Eight viral tiktok dances now. We recognize that. The creators of those dances deserve to have their own spotlight right now. Some of the creators will join me to talk about. How their dance when viral and then perform the dance themselves up. I got my nicole. Johnson and chris cotter who created the viral dance. Two cardi b.'s. Up but after meghan stallion released her latest single earlier this month black creators on tiktok decided to try something different. I never thought. I'd live to see the day that we actually go through with it and see just how much some young us especially with making dances that chucker rip off and say that y'all created it. That's a tiktok user who goes by the handle. Captain can knuckles explaining why many black creators decided to go on a strike. Yeah for my mill naked brothers and sisters of all of the african diaspora own. We are on strike yet. We are on strike. We're not making a dance for sorry. We're not making dance where we just go and let them keep flailing and it just shows how much y'all need us steel dance into say that it's a new big thing so instead of making a new dance to megan thee stallion song. They want white tiktokers to see what happens when they don't have a dance created by black people to copy here with me now to discuss. This strike is tons of rene stidham entertainment writer for the route. Thanks so much for being here tonya. Thanks for having me melissa. All right let's just be honest. I'm old. I'm not a tiktok user. You are so Topped me about when you first learned about the strike. The eric lewis was t. h. e. e. r. i c. k. l. o. u. i. s. I saw his video is started making the rounds on twitter. Actually which is a very common for tiktok when it goes viral. It goes over to twitter. Basically he uploaded a video with megan thee stallion song. I'll be radio for the say. That each in the everett and he seems to be getting ready to bust out like an eight counts of the song which is usually right for a tic tac. Dance right like that song was like very very you know applicable to its exact dance but instead he checked his middle finger to the camera and captioned it this apple be nothing without black people. It was so brilliant because white tiktokers simply copied. The video without knowing was a dupe right. So it definitely proved that they just copy and paste. The black raiders work without eighty cents a context reverence or respect in the original content quote unquote. That came out of that from the black. A drought is just at the y. Craters were like flailing about on the camera. So it was hilarious and we were all making fun of him and improving their own rhythmic creativity. So to speak is non-existent. Let's pause for a second. Because i want you to help us understand what's at stake now. I don't. I don't wanna say that maybe my friends and i used to always make fun of the three or four lovely white kids in college. Who would come to the block parties and dance and we were like while. They're having a good time. I see them trying there. So i mean it's not that i'm that i'm unfamiliar with the racial flail and this sense but talk to me about what's at stake. That's what was happening at college. Parties in the pit versus. What's happening on tiktok yes. This is very significant. A difference because of course in first we were having a good time at joke about enrolling them but then as it starts to fall we started seeing that it was pretty much a strike Similar to like a labor issue or the fight for workers rights and so the black creators decided to stop making. These dances to stop waiting. These dances because they knew that white tiktokers were appropriating it and schilling their content without crazy them and they weren't getting any other benefit for their own creations which was abysmal. so what what is the benefit. Yeah and that's a good question. Because there are some popular soccer's of such as addison. Rae or maybe charlie demilio who have like a bunch of followers right. They have like in the upper multimillions followers and so of course brands and corporations they want to get in on that with marketing like free marketing for them for the socrates popular take soccer's to maybe promote a brand promote something so they get these sponsorships they get the agency reps and other major deals from his platform and again. They're doing this without crediting the creators and so when we do call them out on it they may you know at a state meet here to play or what have you or there are like consolation prize such as like the effort. Aforementioned jimmy fallon appearance where he invited the black raiders. After the fact after that he platform addison. Rae with these dances. That the black raiders created. There's like this virtual signal right at least no real intention or reward for the black raiders. Who deserve it. Let me understand this in the context of this longer history. So i'm i'm thinking back to a time when music industry would have actually been a black musicians. Perform the music but then would literally put on the cover right on the album. Cover white musicians in order to crossover right in order to sell. And then maybe come forward to like an elvis time where the music the the dance actually comes from black folks but who aren't sold or played on top forty mainstream radio and instead right elvis ends up with the credit for things that are created by by black creators but in the tiktok context aren't all to talk about equally available to everyone. I mean in other words. I'm asking if i'm just sort of a free market person you know wouldn't i just say well. Hey look people prefer to see the white folks doing it. And and that to they're following. That's the thing these white creators. Have this privilege right because there is this this whitewashing right of standards of beauty and such things such as that. So they're usually a pretty much pushed to the forefront of these things anyway because of high society pretty much presents them. What's funny about tiktok. What's great about tiktok as a platform in the creation of the platform is that is unique in that it allowed creators to receive credit and it kind of limits that you know that amount of research relation theft that happens when you download upload a video research later over and over because they place watermark on the video over and over right but in this case we have other creators who are recreating the danes. So they're making their own video and making their own continent but not actually crediting the original creator and say that this is their dance. I find it stunning and really smart to put the watermark right. That's like indicative of understanding how that intellectual property works. Have you heard about other possible ways. That black creators are.

Are Black Creators Really on ‘Strike’ From TikTok?

"According to my best and friend of the pod taylor law from the new york times of twenty one year old content creator and dancer posted a fake out. Dance on tiktok. His name is eric. Lewis or louis. I'm not sure how he pronounces it in the video. He looks like he's about to dance to Medicine the stallion one of my favorites New single Thought algebra even at that and when the beat drops he basically flipped the bird and says to the camera psych. You don't know what psych means that means like I trust you in Slang from the eighties and he basically puts a caption that says. This app would be nothing without b. l. k. People black people. The video has racked up over one hundred. Twenty eight thousand likes on tick tock And it went viral on twitter. According to laurenz. And i'm going to quote here. Some tweets suggests that black raiders on tiktok had seemingly agreed not to choreograph a dance to the song which would force non black users to come up with dances on their own and prove how essential black raiders are to the platform in a later. Tiktok eric. the person who promoted this video sad black folks have always had to galvanize and riot and protest to get their voices heard that same dynamic is displayed on tiktok. Said we're being forced to collectively protest a user deja on twitter Said that black creators are telling each other to not make a dance to the new megan the samsung to prove they are the backbone of the app another quote. We are being exploited. And that's the core issue. Black folks have had in terms of labor. Mr lewis or louis. Sorry if i'm pronouncing correctly. These millions of likes. That should all translate to something. How do we get real money. Power and proper compensation reserve and the tweet from taylor today to frame this as an issue around dance credits misses the point. It's about so much more and speaks to broader issues of labor in the creator economy. We are being exploited. And that's a core issue. Black folks have always had in terms of labor. Eric said

"Is and at the month of may is packed with a unbelievable cards and honestly the boy the holland fight that kind of fixes everything because if we don't see that fight and that card kinda i mean it's really just in a matter. Today's tommy neighbor. I'm going to bet. But but i i guess you know we can end the show with the eric lewis lanes. He's got the heavyweight title. Shot on jones is out of the picture there waiting on a date. What do you think of that run. I love it. I love it. I love it because we even said it. We've called it. We've said that the lewis is next for the title shot. Yeah that's the weird thing about jones to is. He actually cut ties with malki colin front row management after so many years of just you know what i mean the coward brothers and all the relationship that they've had over the years then. Oddly enough fans people are calling for an hour than ali abdallah. Sleaze go ahead in the fight for. Don't maybe become the new manager. Say i bet. I bet a nice thing new man i knew shooters. I saw that he could key title. Like those are gonna come in snatch him out and ben signed him under his only say sleaze because it's called becoming jannine. Kobe like start shit. And it's pretty hilarious. Got a nickname for everybody. I get a kick out of that. So i don't know man i guess abe and malki kawa couldn't get the job done with dana white and the brass so the thirty million dollar price tag. Whatever you put. That should definitely not happening. They're gonna pay. Derek lewis eight million eight ten eric. Lewis probably made more money than john jones in his career. And he's gonna make pretty damn big payday going there and shit. He has a shot to win it. To as shitty as the first fight will have to run it back. And now it's the high stakes heavyweight title of the world so levin man kicked it on the show mature versus in ghana. Whatever it is soon in god who was back in cameroon. Anna welcome like a hero and a keen off video. The amazing justice seed. It's it's so freaking awesome to see where where he's from and the way everybody just sees him as a king and he emma's akina asset dawson one hundred percent. So that's that's props on jonnu. I remember saying he knew he had eight years ago when he first heard about the guy. Come in there with his braids to have braids. And i mean in there. You know what i mean. Just knock in had. But he's a very well rounded guy now and one of the most dangerous guys and there's fights with their louis despite with john jones and even the trilogy was steep. Bay steve as even saying he might. You know bulk up and tennessee. They'll be that match up in the future. So but good on you francis you are the king and cannot wait for you and the houston madman. Eric michigan that's going to happen soon and we're going to see a better improves. The derek lewis man you know his training and his diet is cardio has been phenomenal Again i don't think we're gonna see the the the by before no way no way that we're gonna see that biting anywhere it's gonna be award. Somebody's gonna get knocked out that ad. Derek lewis said. He probably thinks he can knock him out in the first exchange. So i'd love to see that if i play out john jones Out of the pitcher man so exciting to come back. I mean john. Blackledge has got a glove to share a lineup. So whatever you decide to do. John could probably go back to two five. But as much weight as he's gained all his body builders shit that's going on Like i mentioned before we won't see don jones fight until the end of the year possibly like new year's christmas time if he does fight again yes sir. I think that's all your list drink. Yeah big other than that. It's a mike. Tyson vs lewis going on what's happening dude. Boxy has become a circus. I mean crazy began on the show next week. Big time. five. With mr canal alvarez and billy joe saunders so very cheap by that fight and that's like always speaking of boxing this weekend and you refraining. He's fighting eddie. Ola best is going to be a fucking bad as bikes any reason and he looks. You look dangerous is a lottery is packed on some muscle. This guide looks. Looks ready bro. I think you're listening ill power. This is a fight that nobody should be missing even though it's going to be in the same night as ufc. If there's a boxing match on that night that the that you need to watch it standard res versus ideally andy. Reid man stopped eating tamales and tortillas. So that's done by nami. Couldn't remember his name. 'cause we're talking touching on boxing iran garcia. But we did mentioned that. The release fight was taking place on saturday. "Right at Donora three. Oh 3722229. 5 803 6 to 83 70 or D, r H I calm. Told 0.4 seconds left to go in the basketball game. Portland would need a three pointer to tie it. So here's always the squirrely question that no coach ever does. Do you foul before? Damian Lillard gets a chance to shoot a three. I mean, if you ever get it wouldn't vote that strategy it be against this team. It would still give you a one point lead. Here we go. Carmelo Anthony looks in Throws it into Damian Lillard Lillard, guarded by Austin Rivers 10 seconds to go. Here's a three Mister. Wait a minute. They call the foul. Austin Rivers is so livid about that, and he wants them to challenge it. And they will crowd just saw the replay. He did nothing. Absolutely nothing. This bad boy needs to be reversed, like he did his best to move away from him. So here comes Eric Lewis and Sean right over the scores table. Let's see if they have enough guts to reverse their own call with eight seconds left to go. He has a hand check on the hip and then nothing After that. Certainly nothing. Man, This is called us. This is called a serious right here could be now There is still a 0.4 on the game clock. But that was a gift of a call. Damian Lillard. We're taking. They don't want to be wrong in this situation, So they're looking for any little thing not to reverse this call, but they're also gonna be dealing with a hostile environment. Not that anybody's gonna storm the floor anything but Across the borders. Game clock at 9.8 is the first thing that Eric Lewis said. So they've switched that and they're not even gonna bring in Mark Lindsay, the third referee, So let's see what the call his here. This better be reversed. Well, let's hear it. Whenever you're ready, I have reviewed the charges are successful. We have a file quietly together, side out, so the challenge was unsuccessful, but it was a foul prior to the gather. So this is going to be a side out for Portland. They gotta do it all over again. Then I swear I would. I would foul him before he had a chance to take a three. He is that good. Nicola Yokich is gonna check back in. John Michael Green will go out and the coal yogurts will face guard Carmelo Anthony. Alright, Here we go. 9.8 seconds to go mellow, inbound half court circles. Damian Lillard is gonna try and tied up with the horn. Five seconds to go. Lillard for the time. Got it. Three seconds left to go for Denver in Belmont. Morse. He takes it from half court. Missed it at the horn, and we've got overtime in Denver, and I'm telling you foul that guy before he has a chance to shoot it. It's just such a risky thing to do. We have a time out and over..

"Know, really? I was kind of Skip. I was skipping ahead, wondering why I had a friend actually, who was like visiting the Smithsonian. This one kind of blew me away and they've got the preamble. We, the people. Done in kind of customized license plates, and my license plate design is there And that one kind of like of all of the places where people have kind of said, Hey, Eric, I saw your plate. That was the one that kind of threw me back the most like ma'am, That's pretty cool. And at the time there is all this publicity about this play. The Seattle Times had a big story. It's essentially you love it or hate it. Because the license way prior to 1986 hadn't changed for 23 years. It was just that old white plate with green letters, and I'm sure some people might still remember. And then even after the centennial was over. It was so you could buy the plate for about three years, it said. Centennial celebration on it. Had the mountain there in the middle, which it still has to this day had kind of, or curly Q B writing for the word Washington But when the centennial was over, they got rid of that centennial language, But they kept the mountain. So it's been Washington's official plate for something like 34 years. Actually talked to the department corrections where they make these license plates over in Walla Walla. And they couldn't even tell me how many they've actually made over the last 34 years. I was trying to guess it must be north of 20 Million, maybe 30 million. But to be an artist, and actually it made it. It made his career He was this guy Eric Booth, he was already thinking about becoming a graphic designer. And winning this contest. Kind of like, you know, sort of set the mold for him and he went to art school. He works for Pitney Boz is some sort of a high end, you know, higher up graphic designer for pity votes for their interactive stuff. And it's ah. Does. He really got set on that path because he won this contest, and he said that he thought the young When they called him. They thought he might have been a teacher at Ferndale High School. They didn't know he was a kid because they narrowed down the 1400 entries to just 12. And then they let the governor Governor Booth Gardner, of course, now deceased. And headed toward the licensing were the two people who picked the final plate and that was it was his design and unveiled it this big thing with a ceremony right there in front of the state capital. And it was. It was just a huge deal, and there's a millions of these things on the road, and you know, the guy never gets any credit for it because it's been 35 years. There's a conspiracy theory for you. Booth Gardner chose a guy named Booth as the winner. I was going to point that out to him. OK, good. We're on the same wavelength in this story. I also talked to you, Eric Boots, Parents, Roger Booth and Connie Booth and Booth Gardner and one someone commented on social media. There's something like There's more boots in that story than there are in a suntanned parlor at a strip mall or something. It was sort of a booth. Joe Kind of you're kind of a dad joke. Yeah. Speaking of Dad jokes. I'm glad you mentioned the dad jokes because wait, Did wait, I I asked him one that, Felix, I asked. Hopefully, Jacob's paying attention Now, I asked Eric Lewis out of making the plates, I said.

"The eighteen Rudy unfortunately your prediction long foreseen alistair room. Becoming the champion has been cut short Alexander volkov went in there and just a giant human being right you compared to a non. trt overeating. That's forty one years old now but super impressive stuff right. I mean shit. Nah really really not impressed. Beat up an old man. Bro for kim boxy no. He's not an old man. I'm over his own. Do come on you making his local off the ball. Kaufman fucking bitch. You ruined my fucking the only fight that i was really looking forward to considering all the shitty fights all in a man will. Maybe you'll removal can pull it off but note nine man it was at the first Searched the first round. He got really hurt. And honestly. I don't mean erupted but honestly looking at their picture. I should have known i mean. Look it volkov's nipples There's so much nicer should have been a dead giveaway anyway. We're saying shattering remember. Oh but i like at the end of the first room when he got hurt. That's when i saw like that's it boots once over and gets hurt. It's it's overman. He just likes to cover up. And that's where volkov he just took advantage and started wailing on a man in he got knocked out. Oh yeah mar- marquesa. I'm looking at the comments. He he yeah. What about the fart was that you heard that too right and was fired. It was a far-right who started it was during the chick fight though right every. Dc the dc. We're talking you can just hear. And then he continues talking. After a long pause dude we need to do an article about d. c. farting and spreading covid through his. Ask germs. fuck daniel cornelis. Also what's the name alexander volkov back tattoo mighty mouse. johnson is smaller than that tattooed. Five ninety miles johnson's on the back of roll call. Yeah i haven't seen it doesn't look like Brock listeners than the conor mcgregor's put together notion states are right rock mcgregor. Connor lesnie volkov. Next move. I mean he's probably gonna be on the shelf for some time unless he takes like alternate route like a backup for. What is rosen. Stroke by. It's coming up right. Abby help fight with him and roses would about louis ablaze next week while if he can't stop take down that's where he lost are you don't blame me. No he's gonna do. Eric lewis beep volkov in the end of five around buck in boring fight three rounds or is it. Three three reviver volkov had his number that night until the very end there you know banking cooled it out his ass awesome. So i know we're gonna talk about this more in depth next week but the on the topic does confide rosen struck after that. This fight six possibly in Blades is probably gonna fight. No that that fights official. I think god they fucking finally got in god knew the rematch for the fell which beijing beat his ass again but but think both carbon roses starts a fight. I think grows drug fight now. Shiro gone right in an alternate. You know if you happen to be some people's that may be ready to go Yeah i think that's only by formless. It's like a. I don't know if they can offer him a couple of guys but i really just want to see invite by top dude. Tv deserves a domino. Raymond time anybody who beats overeating. If i'm for the bell or their number one hundred. So i think he's number one contender. He's right there. I agree with the roses struck assessment because I mean the other two guys that he could fight or blades in Who blades. And lewis and those guys. They've already fought him and he lost to him. But i wouldn't mind seeing him get that Get that w. and set it out l. And beat one of these guys again but i i'd much rather see him not fight someone who's fought before Inroads instruct seems like the guy to get. And there's one guy that kinda would think like anybody watching this short followed the career junior Ninety five oka- they haven't we don't wanna see vocabulary I do our matchup distant case he to stay active bill. Twenty twenty two until steve bay. In the engage south scorpio. Sturman for companies to be ferretted. Grover is light-heavyweight isn't he. Yeah he's the he's been named as an alternate for the a block of witch sign. Fight reading about that. So he's actually. I mean they forgot about lover but then again you might see by block quiz on the dow. Be a fucking banger bro. I don't know either way. Did that assign or or or globerman that those would be awesome fights but i i was thinking a global versus a volkov that that'd be awesome. Man that you took on gustafson man gustafson looks like the size of volkov in the record of title fight. Stay intact free though. So i mean we've seen how many five dropping out day after day leading up to cards uphill have been remaining intact with. I guess that you have to keep an alternate. I think he bubble has alternate for a guy who and st bay gotta do that. You know what i mean. If he doesn't get five before that can become forget. Jone jones coming in headway man. Fuck dan we can forget it. So who knows what they might the wants to do after the You know a you know what. Also don't forget. Jake paul jake exactly hallway. And if you do forget him don't forget. Wow. 30% of all the blood of my bottles killed you. Almost Rick, I'll tell you what it changed. You know, you talk about changing things. Cold weather never used to bug me. I played in Cleveland, Man. I grew up here. But after that When it would get real cold. I mean, I would be freezing cold. I It took me and it was like this was like mid nineties, Probably. I was coaching at Nevada West. I'd literally had to sit in a folding chair. The coach. You know, when I first got home, it was all I could do to walk to the end of the driveway and get the mail. So it was. I mean, I know that stuff is real. So I'm not looking forward to doing this. I might I might not do. I certainly wouldn't do it with him. But that might not do the nasal thing. A funny polyps story. A funny polyps story for me because I had one on this was when I lived in California. And it was a big one. And it was affecting my breathing. I didn't even know I had it. So they looked up there in the document. Why you've got a You got up a polyp in your Sinuses he goes, We need to take it out so You know, it's you do it in the office. It wasn't like in a hospital or anything, And so we kind of numbs it up there and then they have this tool and they might have done this with you. This tool that goes in your nose and there's Lika. Loop on the end of it like a steel loop. Yes, that they put around the base of the polyp, squeeze it down, and then they pull it out. And so he's got this thing in my nose, and he's like His hands shake everything you and I can hear this leg. This tearing inside my nose, and he's like digging. He pulls and I think. Oh, my God, Paul. It was his biggest my thumb. And he goes. This is the biggest polyp I've ever seen. He goes. Hang on, He goes out and he shows his staff. You're Paula. Yeah, he goes. Look at this polyp. I just pulled out of his nose like, instantly breathe better. And he showed me because this is just like a big believable like a big booger, you know? Yeah, he had a big booger. How do you know so you can breathe a hell of a lot better right away. It made a huge difference in my You know, breathing After that, That's what you would do You do the nose. I'll be doing nose thing, Kathy said so many times in the air that your nose is fat and too big and she's made funny. Your nose all the time. Yeah, constantly. I don't know. I just really nice of her to do that to point out my flaws right when she says it with love what? What other what other Surgeries are available. I'm uh I'm just well for women. That boob job. Be like in a cup. It's a blessing and a curse. Kind of I I. Yeah. I don't need that. Oh, you can do. Ah! Like a liposuction. Where they going? Where did they put it? Wherever you need it like your belly. You know, guys, probably belly. You could do that. No, I wouldn't do that, You know? Just do some sit ups. Right. You know, I think that's about it for guys. Um, from the 720949. My eyelids were interfering with vision. So not necessarily just cosmetic surgery. True. That happens, Yeah. 303589. Hopefully they don't take too much of a rise. Otherwise our eyes will not close. That's the risk. Brick and I are hoping that that is the case. Three hours 72143 of sevens Wild men, right, I think. Had it done on my lower lids. Remove the pouches under my eyes. Huh? You know that you know that it sometimes it looks like And it happens to guys allow that. Looks like they got punched right in the face. And they got that big. This is before cell phones, man. I otherwise I would have got one. I got a mental picture of it. And it even shocked me like Wow, that was in my Sinus. Holy smokes. Have you seen like I got my I got my knee scoped. Then they gave you pictures of what your knee look like in the inside and of course. Uh, if you gave it to another guy, and they looked at it, and they said, what in God's name, am I looking at? Well, taking that a little bit further?
