"Offense. But they did it with some terrific defense. Tonight living the Houston quarterback Derek king to one hundred seventy five yards passing and just fifty four yards rushing. And he has a running quarterback probably the most dangerous runner that we will see this year. He's really effective. But tonight, the Mustangs contained him and came out from the outset and just put it on this Houston cougar team who was really good had only lost one game ended up losing a Texas Tech early in the season that they're only lost prior to tonight for the second time in three years now back to back games against the Cougars here at Gerald j Ford stadium has rendered upset losses. Upsets to the Houston Cougars out that we'll get to some of the statistics coming up. We'll have Sonny dykes coming in here in just a minute. Dykes will be in here in just a little bit. As the SMU Mustangs, take on the. Yukon huskies next week. We'll talk about that later, but what a win tonight and coach Sonny dykes dykes will be in here in just a second. So. We'll see what his comments are in in. We'll see what he has to say. But what a huge win tonight for SMU looking at some of the numbers here. The Mustangs into out gaining this Houston cougar team outgained him five fourteen to three sixty five tonight through the air. The Mustangs were really really good been Hicks with a terrific game. Twenty eight of forty three three hundred eighteen yards. Four touchdowns a long of fifty nine had the one side. But what was so interesting about the game? Is that Ben was so calm, cool and collected on the biggest drive of the game. That lashed drive with the Mustangs put the finishing touches on it with the touchdown late. But he managed the game show will in addition to his proficiency, but Ben Hicks with this three hundred game has now ten three hundred games for his career, which is now in SMU record. He was tied at nine can again, he now has ten he continues to. To shatter the record books here at SMU. Remember, he started as a freshman because of injury had come in a couple of years ago, and he really just has not stopped since a couple of games earlier this year. He didn't start the freshman will Brown started. But since he has been given the starting position bag he has really delivered tonight to the tune of upsetting seventeenth ranked Houston on the ground for the Mustangs came in Freeman twenty carries one hundred seven total yards. Two touchdowns a long of forty four or five point four yard average. Brayden west nine four fifty three fourteen his long five point nine average Xavier Jones carried it six times tonight for forty four yards had a long of thirty four tonight. But throwing the football Ben hick in twenty eight of forty three Reggie Roberson at nine grabs tonight. So did James prochet. Myron gathered had a huge catch. The move the sticks on the third down play on the last Mustang drive. He had a huge catch had a twelve yard which move the sticks. But as far as the touchdowns, go Hicks threw for four touchdowns tonight. Roberson prochet Ryan Becker had a big one early in the game. He really spread the wealth. And that was fun to see Johnny Sackville tonight. Pundits six times an average of thirty three. Wind was a huge factor early in the game. Remember, it was gusting at about fifteen to twenty miles an hour cycle had a long of fifty three in this ball game. That was with the win believe it was in the second quarter. As far as the kick returns. Go James prochet had three returns twenty yards along of ten defensively for SMU. And that's that's really where the Mustang shine. You look at what SMU was able to accomplish on the defensive end of the football a football field eleven tackles for Richard Maury at a sack two tackles for loss, the Mustangs as a team tallied seventy NFL's tonight as a club had the four sacks Kyran Mitchell had two of them Turner Koch Richard Morgan had the other, but the T F L's were huge. What a big game for Cairo Mitchell. Seven tackles two sacks three tackles for a loss. Two fumble recoveries their two of them got both of them. In fact, Richard Moore had a break-up Mikhail owner who had a pass breakup. But Richard Moore led the team in tackles with eleven allies McLean had eight tackles, Patrick Nelson. Karen, Mitchell, both had seven three from the Kahlo new. Two for Gerry key. Kevin johnson. And Davis also had two tackles puddle Davis had a couple of big ones. One was real big grab guy. I think it was the king grabbed him with one arm is able to pull them down on the third down play. But the new defense was really solid again tonight. On the other side for Houston. Again. The king held eleven of twenty two hundred seventy five yards and two touchdowns with the Houston quarterback. He had a long pass. A fifty four sacks was sacked four times. I should say the game, by the way, the offensive line only gave up one sack for the night. That was fantastic. That was really you could pinpoint the Sachs's being accommodate dominator between both upset wins for SMU. Remember the SMU defense got seven sacks against Houston two years ago when the upset when Houston was ranked to believe eleventh in the nation, and then the Mustangs ended up with the four sacks of the Eric king tonight. Running the football for Houston. Patrick cars. Seventeen for seventy five along of twenty eight the Eric king the quarterback thirteen carries for the quarterback. Just fifty four net yards along of twenty four four point two average Chandler Smith carried eight times for thirty one yards twelve his long three point nine the average. They're catching the ball for Houston. Four grants for Bryson Smith thirty yards along if thirteen targeted seven times Stevenson caught three balls Corbin thought three and Brooker called threes. Well, by the way, Sonny dykes will be in here. Just shortly. In fact, he's on his way in right now victorious coach Sonny dykes who is joining us now on the ESPN, Mustang postgame show, coach dykes first of all, congratulations. What a huge win for the ball club. You got out early and you guys never stopped. Thanks. Yeah. I was a good win for our guys. Really? You know, first time we've played together on offense and defense. I thought played well on special teams and. Really the first game all year that you know, it's been a complete ballgame. So was proud of the way the guys played me. And we played hard. We played physical thought we won the game. Right. And that's been something that we've been trying to preach our guys and. Good football team that we'd be tonight coach upfront. You got four sacks tonight. They don't teams don't sack king. Yeah. Yeah. Now, we did we got pressure. And then, you know, the thing we did is ran the football. We haven't been able to run it. And we gotta really got a lot of push and ran the ball. You gotta give her guys credit at the end of the game. We got the ball with nine minutes to go and put together a seven minute drive. And and got it in the end zone there after the delay. And so. We've come a long way because that's been something we've been trying to do you know, we were gonna try to build a build a group. And we started a bunch of new guys Bill Morris got his first start tonight and then played lights out in front and kind of had some guys hadn't played really. And and really proud of the group thought they played extremely well teams that run tempo. Don't like the slow down when they better control the clock. But what a job been Hickstead managing the game in that situation. You really did a great job taking care of the ball, though, incompletions that was the whole thing. We felt like if we could get the ball receivers some space and guys can make some plays. And then just make great decisions the whole night really played well, really proud of him, and you know, kind of what he's gone through this year. And and you know, I thought I thought it was obviously his best performance. Coach them a third and long play on that particular drive when the Mustangs needed they needed it when we needed a score, many coaches probably would have handed the football law, but you elect to throw it Myron Gallard catches. Short of the first down and then fights to get down to the fifteen yard line right before the delay. Talk about the decision to throw the football. Yeah. You know, we we felt like we just needed to get it. You know, I think we played aggressive. I mean, we went forward backed up fourth in one early in the game and ended up scoring on that drive. And and you know, we we felt like we just need to make some aggressive calls to give her guys a chance to win. And you gotta give her players credit. They executed them in, and you know, and and found a way to get it done. And we're talking about the offense coach the defense was incredible. You get a seventeen nothing lead. And then you get a terrific game. From the first of all, the linebacking corps was amazing tonight Kyran Mitchell, seven tackles, two sags three Tf ELS. Coach was amazing. Yeah. Group played good. I mean, they're playing so hard. And I'll tell you what they did they played really physical. They they they were knocking balls out. And you know, it was just they were running around having fun and playing the game the way it's supposed to be played. So it was really really happy for them. And those guys all year have kept us in ballgames. And we've had a hard time moving the foot. Baller playing well offensively. And like I said it was great to see everybody come together and play well together, you get them to do that. You know, what just them they've worked incredibly hard. They've had a great. You know, great attitude. You know, we lost that game last week. And you know, you almost worry that guys are gonna show up on Sunday and had their head down a little bit and the guys came in. And they were ready to go to work and it had a great week of practice, and obviously culminated in a great performance. Fantastic wind coach, congratulations. Thank you. Thank you. Okay. Head coach Sonny dykes big win for the SMU Mustangs upset win over seventeenth ranked Houston good crowd tonight on homecoming. And they see a fantastic game. What a job by the SMU Mustangs. And the defense was incredible to start. But how about that offense generating over five hundred yards looking at the total here the five fourteen to three sixty five SMU over Houston in terms of overall yards. What a win. So now, the Mustangs, get three games left. And you've got to you need to win two of them to get to a bowl. And we'll talk more about that. But what a win. We'll talk more Monday night. Rich village will be back on Monday night for the for the showdown at Zona on our it's always sunny on the hilltop. Join us there. Seven o'clock on that show at the Zona bar and grill where we want to thank everybody for hanging out tonight. Thank you for tuning in is the SME Mustangs win it tonight. Final score forty five to thirty one over seventeen bright Houston, we want to thank Steve Lansdale. We also wanna think Sam Thomas did a great job tonight of the booth helping us out thanks to Ryan garner tonight next to Kern yarn for always a fantastic job making certain that everything Iran flawlessly, and.

"Three thirty eastern. You can see either on ABC or ESPN two depending upon where you live is there. There's not an undefeated team in the country hanging on quite the way USF is. I mean, they talk about dodging some bullets Mel. And now they go to Houston could deal with a six one team and major Applewhite's got his Cougars playing awfully well back home after a couple of road wins. They are throwing the ball all over the place behind the arm of Eric king who stands just five ten twenty three touchdown passes, just three interceptions. They're what seven and a half point favorites. Houston is bulls. By the way, Scott sprites are one of his three picks little spoiler. We'll be on this game. So see at nine fifteen eastern who he likes? He says this is a very playable game. I kind of have a hunch this is worthy. Will bulls run of undefeated of undefeated season comes to an end here and a lot of NFL scouts story. We watch us Oliver any game at our Claes. You're gonna watch it out. Now it all overhead a sack last week goes against navy. They'll throw the ball much. We got into backfield he wreaks havoc. At two sacks the previous week against these Carolina. First sacks of the year, the Donald comparisons. Or an exaggeration. He's not Aaron Donald Aaron Donald had great sack numbers at Oliver does not and all of us to seventy three pounds. He's not to ninety. So I think you look at it. All right now, I wanna see more dominance, but he's questionable now he's dealing with Bruce and his right knee out there. But you wanna see playthrough and be dominant. You're the you should be able to throw these offensive alignment around and make make plays and getting it back you and wreak havoc and coming down to. Catch if you're going to maintain that second pick overall status right behind Nick Bosa, then you gotta start. Getting more sacks down the stretch story again, not against the elite line up against those guys. And we in the NFL you're going up against the best center guards in the world. I think a lot of NFL people wanna see a little bit more from a sack standpoint met Oliver moving into November. Number twelve Kentucky at Missouri. Boy. Vegas loves this is the trap game of the week. I'm is he. Yet Missouri's what get like a lane touchdown in this game. Right. I mean, it's this is what a fun Kentucky sitting at number twelve no national respect they're tied for first in the east with Georgia and Florida they've already beaten Florida, they host Georgia next week. But they can't throw the ball melody one last week despite eighteen yards. Paseo weather was a factor. Oh, come on. Jerry Wilson's not throwing the football. What you struggle, and you got the wind at the oh with it will be an issue. No question. Right. The guy the guy can throat and drew lock which you want to see what drew lock is step it up against some some good teams. And one thing Kentucky as a secondary which can make plays Mike Edwards and baby. They got guys and they got Josh Allen. Who's been as good coming off the edge as anybody Brian burns, a Florida state, Josh Allen to Kentucky. But outstanding getting after the quarterback from the outside. Kentucky can get after. Drew lock. I'm gonna say again, we talked about our at Oliver from from Houston. I wanna see drew lock against a team like Kentucky light it up where against lesser opponents. He has against strong opponents. He hasn't. Now. It's not all in the quarterback need help from your line. And you're supporting cast and Emmanuel hall hasn't been healthy. We get all that. But if true locks going to be a first round pick, you should be able to do a good job against Kentucky. You're a seven point favorite. Get it done. Drew lock. And try to get that first round grade that we think you're capable of. Number six, Texas said Oklahoma state. Texas is in line for a shot at a big twelve championship game. We know they beat Oklahoma. It's an improved very very improved team. They struggled with Baylor last week..

"And eric king we're talking about the challenges around data version ing and all of that stuff and how some of your tools are addressing those problems let's pick a hard scenario so the version one of the database has a name field and version two is going to split it in the first name and last name oh why would you do who would do that first of all that never happened but imagine this happening because now i'm gonna i'm replacing what was one call awhile with two columns right and i mean the whole strength of the this data tool things is because you're gonna gender it's chris for me i should be able to go both ways and this seems like a very one way thing that i'm gonna you're now going to generate a routine that will actually give me those two columns how they're going to get populated okay well that is you've done a great job that's one of the hardest scenarios i wouldn't pick an easy one let's talk about how you might actually wanna do this anyways as as a developer the i if you want to try and do that and make it work automatically i would recommend that you just add those two columns it first off just add them in don't drop name and then deploy your schema changes wis that aren't do a migration of the data kind of as an offline part that separate from the schema so you actually start right a store procedure that will go through it all and ruin all of the logic touchy move your data over where you separate the separate the names do it and leave the other one they're file until you've gone probably major version up at which point you can drop it and run your next version to actually go and drop it when you have certain you never gonna revert exam this gets into we've had this conversation every time on the show that in the continuous deployment mindset their the the role of the day debates in that has a prestage in a post date so before we update code we make modifications the database to stage for changes and we might populate call them any number of things we might do there then the code goes through its update process and the and it should be the new version should be functional with the database in sort of a temporary state of some of the stuff from the previous version with the stuff with this new version and only after your confident for some amount of time you do the postage that removes the debris of the transition that's correct and you will need to be careful with that because we by default will not drop anything for you for warn so then you'll have to run essentially script which specifically says hey by the way name is gone and we're going to put a special check boxing yeah and we know this is gonna lose data yeah but it is one of the common problems and so we solve most of it for you but then that good design patterns and practices that you learn yourself is really important to also aren't you developing along with data right i mean you're you're hopefully you're not doing this in production do you do you know of anybody who splits a column into two during production in a production environment will go get tested first but at some point production has to reflect the new version rights so you want to know what's going on but the has to be a script in there obviously to change the day et cetera but i do think you the reality is when you're fully cleaned up it's virtually impossible to revert that i picked horrible scenario i admit it and if you do like rule number one don't do that but how many times have i run into scenario where the domain experts told me up and down inside ways one salesperson per per sale item and then one day there's two and we have a fundamental mistake in the data design that's going to create new tables at split stuff off and remove things from one table to move to another like this happens and so for my again an old dt guy from their early versions and it's no wonder as or so cranky yeah but we exercise the tool i came up with all the worst scenarios i could in iran in one thing i learned over and over again every time i rented it never damaged data.

"You are a little and the other key kids used to pick on you for having such a big head it always broke my heart because i knew that when you were being born and you started crowning like when you were emerging the doctor took a step back and shouted the words my god his head as big as appalling baugh and i think that was the first time i was really on a drug cocktail that was really working for me that was really designed in a way that works for me so i think i don't know if the content of my jokes would be funny or more interesting if i wasn't medicaid but i think once i got to a place that chemically was correct for me is also when i started being myself on stage and talking about my personal life on stage and you know those are things that are very daunting to do and you feel a little judged and i think it did help me transition to a place where i had the bravery we ought to do that to go up there and be myself and try to say things that actually met it there's an episode of your show your tv show where where you had people call in and you and ellie camper who's the arkar from the unbreakable commissioner i asked them if they were okay i want to play a club for not felt any who's next all right let's check the guy up by their babies are you okay now our i coward what's going on i doubt however caused agree on twenty four hour job unsparing gonna die alone announced editons girls you a lot of time to things your out what you want from life that's great advice aaron alsafir mayan you have a great yard there's a girl just love a good beer you gotta find the beer look into smile on your face in things i guess oh no they still sound so his face i'm eric king i don't think we're gonna solve all your the idea they're being well basically to provide a platform what i've come to realize is that i have a platform and i have this material that i do from my own life at times that will go dark and that manages to wind up being alright and why not being funny i i really remember the feeling of being young and.
