Faith Leaders, Dallas Mayor Join Together to Pray for George Floyd
"Dallas mayor Eric Johnson gathered with faith leaders today at the Dallas west church of Christ they discussed how the city moves forward following more than ten days of protests he also told the crowd about his reaction to the killing of George Floyd and what it means to him and to his family so that brings it to my reaction to George Lloyd's killing mmhm yeah when I saw that zero one I heard al Sharpton say that when George Floyd I knew that that police officer wasn't gonna get off of his neck when he figured out that he was going to be able to get out of that situation that was about to be all over him al Sharpton says the one the last things George Lloyd did was he cried out for his mother which al Sharpton inquired about and was surprised to find out that George boys mothers no longer even alive that brought back to me something that gets lost in these situations sometimes I think it's worth noting which is that the US George Floyd and to many other people George Floyd is a symbol for many of us hopefully he'll be a catalyst for some greater social changes need in our country but at the end of the day we can't lose sight of the fact the George Floyd was an actual flesh and blood human being who had hopes and dreams and plans of waking up at night that next day and going to bed that night like everybody else and died a horrible cruel death that involved him being absolutely terrified before he left here and he leaves behind some heartbroken and grieving people who love him personally more than just a symbol or catalyst for social change he was somebody's brother father child and we can't lose sight of that so you know my first reaction to this after having really just really allowed myself to express my feelings about is sadness there's also a certain amount of anger and resentment that I have about the situation for all the obvious reasons of course as an African American man this is the first time I've seen a fellow African American man cruelty brutally killed on video broader that's obviously upsetting but you know what else is upsetting but you probably wouldn't know unless I told and I'm gonna tell you it's upsetting to me but I have a six year old son a black boy two year old son a black boy and even if their age they can sense this something's wrong right now

Vincent, Chris Atelli was driving east off on a weekend adventure when the adventure caught up with him the cold snowy weather, Saturday forced him into a ditch near Sunnyside he called for tobe, but no one could come to his rescue. So we called police they couldn't help either. So he texted his sister, telling her he was stuck inside his car in a ditch near Sunnyside mind, you he was already a few hours into this. Ordeal. By that point, his sister told one of our news partner, she kept texting her brother well into Saturday afternoon and then into the evening. She finally got a hold of police who told her that he would just have to wait. It was too dangerous at that point to go out and rescue him through the night, Saturday, Vincent and sister kept texting because her brother had already complained to freezing toes. There was no blanket in the car which now had less than. Quarter tank of fuel and that half of granola bar while that was not going to be enough. It wasn't until Sunday morning that Vincent was finally able to get out of his car and walked to a semi park nearby. He got warm for a few minutes had some tea then yesterday about eleven o'clock nearly thirty hours after this. Ordeal began he was finally able to walk to a police barricade was given a lift to someplace much warmer. Brian Calvert, KOMO news. Look at this bat used by the Sultan of swat, this all starts with a contest in California and ends with the guy in Bellevue, who's about to make millions and between there is trust and betrayal, and redemption and Babe Ruth and reaches a movie, it is a movie. Okay. I'm going to give you the thumbnail sketch. They have this contest with the evening herald newspaper in nineteen Twenty-three in the kid who leads the Los Angeles high school league city league in hitting will win an autographed b Bruce back but not any bat the bat. He uses. Hit his first home run of eighteen twenty four. So I gained Phil Grossman in Los Angeles wins the batting crown on the last day of the season in one thousand nine hundred four Babe Ruth at his first home run off againing. Walter johnson. Perhaps the greatest pitcher of all time. They take a picture of him signing the bat with a sign hanging off the bat that says Los Angeles batting champion. There's proof photo. Legit. They give the bat to the kid fast forward. Many many years named Mike Robinson who grew up in Bellevue would visit his uncle Phil in Los Angeles. And his uncle would show them the bat and tell them about meeting Babe Ruth, and all of this these amazing stories in the kids. Head was swirling uncle Phil dies. Okay. It doesn't leave it to the kid, but they have a family estate sale. Mike bids over three thousand dollars and gets the bath. This is a nineteen eighty six in nineteen eighty nine A guy says to Mike. Hey, listen, that might be worth a lot of money. I know a guy who knows a guy if you send this bat with him. He could probably find out how much it's worth gives it to the guy. I never sees him. Again. Twenty eight years go by he has set up a Google alert on his phone that if something about Babe Ruth memorabilia or a Babe Ruth bad or something is is comes across the internet. It'll alert him. He gets an alert on his birthday this last year Babe Ruth bat, the holy grail of sports memorabilia could be most valuable piece of sports memorabilia ever sold its his back, and it's about to be auctioned off and the estimated value, or are you ready ten million dollars? So he he hires a lawyer he calls the FBI. He gets advice. He stops this auction from happening. They go to court, and and you know, the people that had the bad hadn't done anything wrong. They had purchased it from someone who purchased it. And so the judge says here's what you're gonna do. You're going to sell that bat, and you're going to split the money. And that's where we are right now. I got to hold this bat. Mike. Was kind enough to bring it in. It's not like it was in a glass case. There's Eric pitch. You know, standing swinging it around the kitchen it's astounding though. And it's the real deal, and there are some estimates. Forbes magazine is doing an article about this bat, and they said it depends how the investors look at it. If they look at it as a piece of fine art, it could go way beyond ten million dollars. I mean, this is is he okay with that is Mike. Okay. With that. Did he did? He think that was fair. I mean, it's his bad. He said five million dollars might help the hurt go away a little. So I think he's going to be just fine. How right maybe one thing if he wanted to keep it. It's another that they had he was going to sell it. Anyway, he looked at it like that. He was at least considering so once you to watch this tonight. You gotta see this I-. He lets me hold it and swing it. It's pretty. We had no help and Denver there are so many factors. Yeah. Well, that's that's perfect timing, unfortunately. That's right. I mean the blue on this run going back to when your dad was. On way before. I mean, going back to when you were probably tracking stats because that's when the playoff run started, and then it's it's a, it's a blip on the radar. But I'm sure for blues fans have felt much longer than a blip. Not only do you have the work stoppage, but then they come back and it's come grow with us. You know, the traded Pronger I, it was let go. I think the traded Mellanby. I'm not sure, but it was. It was it was just a tough time. And then what was sorta strange to me is that you know, we had the lockout we miss the full year. Oh four. Oh five. And then in the spring of, oh five. When they come to an agreement to settle the lockout, Bill Lawry says, I'm selling the team like really now you have cost certain. Right. I know. I know Mr. Laurie lost a lot of money. He has a lot of money, but you lost a lot of money. But then when you get the new CBA and you have a hard cap, you'd think that you know you would have kept the team, but for whatever reason he sold and then they. Traded Pronger and did the other things. And it was a tough year. Oh, five. Oh, six last overall and it led to drafting Eric Johnson. So here I was is in announcer, I came from a team that a win to cops and went to the west finals six times. And then last overall, is they do. This isn't much fun. What you're saying. Your dad was dealing with exactly in the nineteen seventy. Yeah, that's different, bro, ballgame. What am I favored blues teams even though I'm sure you would say, especially with all the great teams, you've both blues and avalanche teams you've called, you know, they might not have been a great team, but I loved it because they got back into something that we had taken for. Granted was the oh nine team because it was kind of it came out of nowhere. It was a late season surge and the got in Wanda plan that connects and getting swept. But it was an illustration that there was an appreciation out for something that we, I think I can speak for myself anyway, taken for granted, which was the blues and April. They'll be in the playoffs. And I think that kind of, I don't know if it set in is complacency among the fan base, but there was an expectation for a lot of people, and I would put myself in this category not a hardcore hockey fan that, yeah, I'll get into it in March, and then I'll be totally locked in April and we had expected it to be the case. Whereas we. Saw for what four or five seasons part of the work stoppage and the other. They were too so bad. They weren't getting in how special it is to be part of the Stanley Cup playoffs. And the big the biggest difference between. That time and prio four was that you had the hard cap. So you know, prior to four, especially when the lower zone the team, they could spend so much money and they had really good teams and you know going back before that they had made the playoffs. I think the their number went up to twenty five years total roughly twenty four, twenty five. But then after the lockout you trade these players and you, you can't buy yourself a team and it was the jolt to the fans, and it was tough. It was really hard, but that that year. Oh eight. Oh nine..

"Give them any chance in this series and they may end up getting swept at the end of the day nationals up two games to none but they've come to play they look like they belong and it just looks like nashville just the better team and they've been able to get the extra goal to win but i've been impressed with the avalanche here for a team that i don't think either of us thought had a chance they have really come to play they're not gonna win the not good enough but but you can't really criticize the effort and they're playing very very well yeah you know it's funny because nobody really gave the avalanche chance on opening night right after what happened last year so they've been pretty much a team that as the five the odds most of the air and is about their business and they've got some really high in players within their organization nathan mackinnon being a top of that list they got a great line there are really one of the best lines in the league when you think about rant and landis coggin mckinnon they're missing eric johnson defense there's you are just got dinged up the other day and i don't know what his status is going to be for for game number three but you know they probably look at it as you know kinda like the devils mantra has been you know new jersey against the world and i i'm sure in colorado it's you know denver against the world it's the same thing because everybody us included give much of a chance but you know they're topping their group concert hang with anybody in this league it's that you get exposed as you get further down your lineup but i think that's where like nashville has an event that's where the whitening heaven advantage over the devils and you know even we go back to that vegas la as much as la's got some really top and talent vegas team is really balanced and really strong throughout and and you know i pointed that play again last night fanton bergen neil and neil's able to make a play there guys get exposed in seven game series so for the for the avalanche it's been a real positive year i'm with you i don't think they can win the series but.
