"No, I didn't even really think about it through that lens because I thought about it as like, I think you're gonna have to blow away the sharks with whatever package you put together for him and that's gonna be tough to justify unless it's like we're paying a premium for this guy, but it's because you can help us compete for a Stanley Cup now. And we're gonna have them for the next four or 5 years of his remaining prime as opposed to just like, we're gonna give you every single interesting young asset we have right now and just go for it. The qualifying offer also hurts I think the sharks are like 10 million is a lot. Well, the thing with the sharks though is and I think part of what's complicating is we're working under the assumption that they're going to trade them. Yeah. I was on working in the assumption that they were going to trade to my turtle. At the tree that I last year, and now he was an impending UFA without this qualifying offer hangover, but I was like, given the status of this team, there's no way they're going to pay this guy who's even older than Meyer and then they just gave him a mega contract offer to basically stay there for the rest of his career. So I'd like to thank the Mayer will be playing on some contender down the stretch, but I feel like it's still up for debate in terms of what they're trying to accomplish. How they do things. Now, you know, it's different like my career has come in in the meantime and he's kind of inherent as a clean slate. So he's not really beholden to what they did last year or any of these existing contracts they have. He can do whatever he wants. But the team that I had was the New Jersey Devils. Which is kind of the obvious pick, but the more I think about it, the more that I need to see this happen because I do not want to watch any more shifts with Eric hala playing with Jack Hughes. And Eric hall is a fine player. I think they brought him in with the idea that he'd be like their third center. And he fits the identity of the pace they want to play with the tenacity. He's a highly useful player. But he should not be Jack Hughes's most common line made this season. And this came up during a press conference or a postgame media session after their loss last night, where Lindy ruffles asked why Eric Holly keep playing with Jack Hughes. And Ralph gave the answer essentially along the lines of like, well, we've looked at it and when he plays with him, they have possession more. He helps he helps recover the make sure that we're not spending Jack user shifts chasing the puck and that it's useful. And I agree,

"I mean, he does have a little bit of a track record. Are you not going to go and do what he did a couple of years ago in his first season with the golden knights and things like that, but he is a guy that I feel like next to Hughes and next, both of those guys who do believe are past first players, even though Jack uses among the leaders in shot attempts, I still feel like he's a guy that looks to set up somebody before he shoots the puck, so I call that and brat's the same way. As a pass versus player as well. I think that's Sharon govich may have the highest goal ceiling between him and maybe soderling, who's playing on that first line with tatar and he sure compared to Eric hala, but it just doesn't seem like there's consistency with him like he scored the other night. I think in Toronto over time winner and it's like, oh, this guy's maybe going to stick here for a couple of games and then they went away from it. So in deeper formats, I would probably look at hola. You know, even in 12 team leagues, if you're streaming, I think the Devils are one of the teams that play no, they have three games next week, I thought they had four. But even still, you know, if you're the league is deep enough, I think you just like you said, piggyback off of that. I think Jack uses a future hundred point player. I don't know if we see it as early on this season, but I think it's a super star in the league, and there's no question about it. Oh, I think that's the baseline. I'd say future a 120 point player, like he's going to erupt if he hasn't already. But I can. To jump in on you? I actually heard you Stanley Cup containers. I heard you and our pal, Eric young talking about this on one of your recent shows. I think so.

"And I know both of them are. But an interesting thing was Sweeney mentioned he had multiple conversations with krejci on Wednesday, the day of free agency. What were the conversations? Like, I granted, you just say, hey, just check in in. Boom. After a bad start. But you look at, you think about like, is he like, hey, were you at now? Hey, where are you at? Are they negotiating a price? That's what I'm wondering with both of them. Like, are they now to the point where they're both coming back, but the price is what they are trying to, the incentives, because as Sweeney said they're probably going to have to do very incentive late in deals given the salary cap issue they have. Another thing that makes me think even they are a little worried about this, the zacate trade. Kawasaki, because Pavel zaka obviously prior to the 12 p.m. free agency start Pavel saca was traded Eric holla traded for him. Goodbye Erica. I mean, surpassed all expectations. They sold high on home. Easily. Good for them. But my takeaway was, Zac has an insurance policy. Not just for the top 6 from March hands out to begin the year. But if David krejci decides, I want to play, or he doesn't want to come back. Or Patrice bergeron says, you know what? I'm done. I'm retired. Is he the most ideal candidate? Is he the best number two center? No, he is not. But at the very least, you could plug him in there. As maybe an Erika with the chance of real potential, they feel like. As opposed to, if they just kept Holland, said, well, we figure what we're going to get out of him. So when in Zach, I feel like they got an insurance policy and they sold high on Erica. To me, I actually like this trade. What did you think? Yeah, no, I like it too. I think it is one thing where definitely as a 25 year old guy who can play at the center precision, this is natural position. You're right that it is an insurance policy. So not the best one, right? I don't think you're trading. Let's look at Eric hala. Even though we've both said that the brooms wanted to

"Speaking to existence, they need to be absolutely even for that. Who is your next person? Your final three. Yeah, I think this one is definitely kind of an under the radar guy, but someone who I think has proven. Me wrong, and I'm sure a lot of other guys is front and Frederick, who, again, you look at where he's kind of fit into that spot. On the third line, and he's just kind of struggled a little bit since coming back from injury, but I think you're going to give him a little bit of time to get re acclimated out there. But for a stretch of a month, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, he was playing the best hockey of his career. And it wasn't, again, like he was reinventing the wheel or he wasn't chasing guys around the ice, like looking for a fight. It was just letting the game come naturally to him, being physical. You know, making the right sound plays not the high danger passes or anything like that, just winning pucks being assertive on the floor check, you know, controlling board battles, all those things that go a long way. Especially when you've got a couple other capable veterans on your line when Charlie Coyle and Craig Smith. So yeah, I think Frederick's a guy that in terms of maybe what helps his case is just exceeding expectations because I think for first few months of this year, all right, is this guy even a fourth liner? What exactly are you doing with him? In terms of what his role is and he's really rebounded in a big way and he's been a really important part of why that third line is clicked so much over the last couple of months. If there was a most improved, I feel like he would win it. Feels like he's the most improved in the roster and the one that I kind of exceed. I mean, I guess Eric hala could as well. But again, like the expectations around Frederick, first round pick, but probably like a fourth liner. For a while then even look like a fourth liner. So now it's kind of good for him that fitting on that third line. I could absolutely see him posting a really good case as you just said for the 7th player award. Mine is a little out of left field. I'm gonna go with Thomas no sec. Again, like that's a guy who doesn't get a lot of attention, but has low key than the stabilizing force of that fourth line for months now. Again, we say this every year, you have to have a good fourth line has got to be good, especially for this bruins team where they can shut other teams down. And he's been solid. Again, he's not going to win this award. The points don't jump off the sheet. They look at stabilizing presence, you know, I don't, I can't remember the last time this year we were questioning who should be the center of the fourth line. You know, like, it feels like he's been there all year. And a spot that was completely up for grabs the beginning of the year. And also, no such can jump into the top 6 when you need him, right? When a guy goes down, he's the guy who goes up. So he's someone to me who, you know, again, he will not win this award. But I think he has a legit case for it. And I think he's been extremely underrated throughout this year and for what you've got from him. Again, he's been a very underrated signing by underrated signing by Don Sweeney. This past off season. So very good out of him. Now those are our 6. I don't think we missed anyone big. I don't think there was anyone that has a huge case for it outside of those 6..

"That one has aged well. I have to admit two times this season. I can distinctly remember looking up at the screen, the Panthers were playing. And a Panthers forward drove to the net with the puck, and I was like, is that bark off? And then they turned around and it was number 98 maxim amendment. So I know. Guys, dynamic. He's dynamic. And he could have been available. He could have been yours for a conditional 7th. If you'd listen to the podcast. All right, so it's good to have you on the show. Also joining us is my colleague from EP ringside Jack vase of Jack, what's going on? Well, actually, no, quite a lot. Too much, honestly. In the past 5 minutes or so. I'm going to have to complete this crap my Thomas hurdle, Callie yarn croc bench or out three way trade. Yes. Yeah, so we're recording this. It's Wednesday, 5 p.m. Pacific time. We just had the sherrod and yarn croak trades come through. We still don't even know what went back in return, but we're going to power through it. But here's the plan for today. We're going to hopefully get people ready for next Monday's deadline. If there still are any trades to be done by then. But most importantly, we're going to try to have some fun. And I think it's a waste of our time to be trying to predict what will happen. I think it's much more fun for the purposes of exercise to focus our efforts on cooking up fake trades that we would like to see. And so that's kind of the criteria for today. And I've only got a couple of rules here. They're very simple, but I'm just going to reiterate them. So when people are listening, they kind of know what we're working with. One, we need to have a reason to believe that the player involved is at least theoretically available for trade. And by that, I mean, we've seen their name either floated by reputable sources or they've appeared on trade boards in the past. Two, the deal itself needs to make sense logistically. The team acquiring the player needs to be able to realistically make the money work and fit them onto their team. And three, we're not going to get bogged down by the specifics of returns in terms of conditional fourth round picks and stuff like that. We're speak for yourself. I'm going to let you do whatever you want to do. I'm just saying for myself personally, I'm much more interested in identifying roster players and the fits between them and not worrying about all that stuff, but you have freedom to do whatever you want. So thank you. Thank you. With that all established, let's get into it. We're going to take turns pitching each other on trades. We'd like to see Tom. Because your track record proceeds you. I'm going to let you go first. Give us your first patriot. All right, I'm going to start with a three way trade. I'm going to drive down. I'm going to look it up on Google Maps and I'm going to take a visit to Stevie's laundromat because yes, I've got a three way retention deal here. So the first part of this deal is Detroit's going to get a 5th round pick and retain half of the salary before chopping it onto me. With the first team already having retained half. So I don't know why I started there. That's the least interesting part of this deal. The Seattle kraken suck, they're really bad. But in thinking about who's not at fault for the Seattle kraken sucking, two players come to mind to me. As being like pretty good, despite the fact that the team is terrible. And that is their pairing of Mark Giordano and Carson Susie. I like that pair. I think they're pretty interesting to be totally honest with you. And so they've played something like 200 minutes together over the course of the season. In those minutes, Seattle's done pretty well. They haven't even been outscored, which for the Seattle kraken, like huge win. Massive. I have this idea that the Boston Bruins are kind of not that good. And particularly, I don't really love their defense. We know that they're sort of floor, stays pretty high because of the star talent on that roster. And because of the Patrice bergeron impact. But in that Atlantic, like, what are you going to do if you're Boston? You're kind of cannon fodder unless you significantly upgrade your D so what about this? What about the bruins just import? An entire totally good defense pair from the Seattle kraken. They get both Carson Susie and Mark Giordano. They've grafted a pair. So now you can go something like mcavoy gresley, saucy with Giordano, and then Carlo with Riley. Now all of a sudden I'm looking at the Boston Bruins and thinking, hey, there's a playoff dark horse if they get some goaltending. So in order to make this work, two Boston, Carson, Susie, and Mark Giordano, whose deal will get washed through Stevie's laundromat. So he lands on the bruins at 1.7 million. That makes the deal cap neutral once to Seattle, the bruins send defenseman Connor Clifton. Forward Jake de brusque, and of course Seattle is retaining 50% on Giordano. Seattle gets a future, whatever. Like whatever they want. Do you want 2022 first? Sure. You want Jack studnicka, whatever, like your Seattle, you might make weird decisions, whatever future you want. I'm going to say a 2022 first round pick for their trouble to Detroit who retained 1.7 million in salary to make this all cap compliant. They get a 2023 5th rounder. There you go. Boston Bruins acquire an entire defense pair. And just grafted into their lineup from the Seattle cracking. Wow. You delivered. Jack, let me take this one first. Go for it. And then you can jump in here. Here's my issue with it. First off, love the innovation. Love the creativity. So I want to encourage that moving forward for the rest of their show, Tom. My concern. Before I shit on this. No, I'm not shitting on it. I'm wondering how that fundamentally moves the needle for Boston in the sense that I disagree with you in the sense that there are weaknesses there are blue line like your mileage can vary on them. I actually like a lot of those individual players that they have playing back there. Certainly can room for improvement. But for me, when I started drawing up my fake trades, the one that I was all in on was getting Tom Auschwitz somehow to Boston, right? And obviously that's off the board now that he's been extended for 8 years in San Jose, but for me, just looking at their statistical profile, they're once again, I believe they lead the league in shot chair. They have an excellent defensive environment in terms of suppression, as long as they're getting an average to above average goaltending from Sweden and all Mark, they'll be fine. And I think they have reason to believe that they're going to get them moving forward. And it's actually been a success in terms of splitting up that top line because bergeron and Marshawn like you could put any of us three jokers with them and you'd get great results out of that line. So they've put past your neck with all. They've been excellent together. My big issue is, since David Gracie left for Europe, they're having to play Eric hala and in those premium minutes. And that's just the waste of those minutes in my opinion. So I think for them to make any sort of serious noise this postseason and not just losing 5 and round one or to whoever they want to play and that trade probably does improve them, but it doesn't do nearly enough for me in terms of their objective which should be we need to actually move the needle by getting a second line center here that can come in and maximize those minutes and give us a chance to score enough to keep up with Carolina Tampa Bay Toronto, Florida so and so forth. Let me just rebut that really quickly, right? So we're talking about though a team that in terms of goal differential, right? In terms of goal differential, they're like plus 12, 5 on 5 with mcavoy on the ice. Plus 19 with gresley on the ice. And then it falls off massively, right? You go, you go plus four with Riley, even with Carlo, and then everyone else is in the red. Everyone else is at the forwards..

"And we'll get to in a little bit what you could get for debras skinny max scenario. But just trading him for another struggling winger. I don't know. This is a good amount of this value to brusque. I mean, I was just reading, you know, bleacher report today like a ranking of the trade block for the deadline and to brush was number one. Now, again, that's one person's opinion. That's not like NHL GM's putting that together. But that's something there. You could get something for Jake de brusk absolutely. But I just don't think that for another struggling winger like Yamamoto who does not even have the stats that Deborah did in his best years. I can't sit here and say that I would want that. I wouldn't, I just, you know, I know people like to just get new players. Oh, Yamamoto's new. And it's like, no, no, he's struggling to. Like, the same issues to breast cas, you're gonna get with Yamamoto. So I don't know. I just, there's not a lot of desire to do that. If they did that, it kind of go, oh, okay. Another winger, you gotta decide if you're gonna put them on the third line or maybe he'll slot in on the second line, like for a game and maybe you'll get healthy scratched. They have too many of these guys. You get Nick foligno. You've got, you know, Eric hala, and we'll get to those guys in a bit. And you know, no sec and now, you know, obviously de brusk right now. You got Carson coolman and Oscar Steen and you got all these guys who are fringe line up and top 6 guys that it's like, well, why would you get another? What is the unless unless unless the bruins hockey ops department can sit there and say no, Kyler Yamamoto has a real spot in the top 6 of this team, then I'm not gonna sit here and say, oh, that's a great trade. Because you're getting worse. That's not that's less than lateral in my estimation. Who knows? Yamamoto could become a 40 point guy at 50 point guy and I could sit here and eat crow, but I have a weird feeling that's not gonna be the case. I just, there's not a lot of upside with that. I don't see the huge upside in a dubrow for Yamamoto. And then cleft bomb, I think there's a better left shot defenseman who the bruins could go after who I will get to in a little bit. Pretty safe bet that this player would be a huge hit on the bruins..

"Yeah, how about the bucks? And they almost blew it too. That was the worst part. They almost blew it. It was almost reverse Brady in a sense. So good to see that that entire day of football was truly awful up until the last hour of the 4 o'clock Celine. Yes. Yes. I was I was working for NCA dot com. My everyday job during that. So I actually didn't watch that. I actually watched a D one. The D one men's soccer national championship. So that was my that was probably more captivating. Oh, a 100% it was actually. It was a very good game. I don't need a huge soccer guy, but I was like, this is a great game. So anyways, back to hockey. Let's talk about D one soccer for the rest of the podcast. I think people would be pumped. Another big takeaway from this trip was keeping Eric hala on the wing. Now he was on the wing with Coyle and Smith for the length of marchand suspension. Then when Marcia and came back, he was put as third line center, wasn't the same. Felt like his impact was felt a lot more on the wing. Do you think this is something they should keep going forward? You might as well ride it out for a little while. I mean, I think to a different level, the hall on the wing thinks similar to the coil on the wing argument that they had to deal with the last couple of years where it's like, yeah, I mean, you could put coil on the wing, but ultimately are probably better if he's just playing up to his capabilities at center. But if he's not, then you have to put him in a position to succeed. Like that's ultimately what coaching is, right? And the version of Eric hall that we've seen on the wake is vastly different than the one centering a line..
