Join Millions in a 21-Day Prayer and Fasting for Israel

"A conversation with my friends Ken fish and Mike bickle about something really, really extraordinary that Mike bickle is involved in. He has, he's never done this before. He's calling the whole world. Christian organizations around the world literally millions of people to participate in a 21 day prayer and fasting for Israel. It's a very big deal. And I thought, I want my audience to hear this conversation. So even though I did it on Ken fish's podcast, we're airing it today for you. Eric and I will be jointly interviewing Mike bickle about the upcoming Isaiah 62 fast. You're going to hear all about it. But the executive summary is it's going to be may 7 to may 28 and already more than 2 million people have signed up. This is a critical time in the history of Israel and by extension the history of the world since Israel is key to world revival. And so with that, we're going to get going and Mike, why don't you tell us about the origin of the Isaiah 62 fast? What motivated? Well, let me start off and just give the real simple what the message is. And then I want to say how to participate in it. And then I want to say, but it's your show, so you drag me. Why Isaiah 62? Then I want to say a minute or two on each time, why is it so urgent right now? And then how did this thing come to pass? So do you mind if I go in that order? Yep. Now Ken and I were talking just the other day in Eric. Emoting over you. We think you are amazing. That's how this happened. We said, Eric Eric, well, let's get him on the line then. So there you go.

Sebastian and Chris Kohls Review 'Big Trouble in Little China'

"Sit tight, pull the floor and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not backed by dawn, call the president. Well, I might have the president, president's number, but I just need to know. Chris Cole's, will you born ready or you just thrilled to be alive? There's a couple of things that were missed there. Come on, Eric has to sleep sometime. Eric, Eric, what are you doing? No, the best line in the film is, you know, you know what Jack Burton says at a time like this and the guy says, who's Jack Burton? And he goes, Jack Burton, me. I don't know why I always love that life. And then at the end, he's leaving. He's leaving to go back on the road. And Kim Cattrall sitting there looking all sexy, like, you know, you're just going to leave me here. And her friend says, well, aren't you at least going to kiss her? And he just turns to her and he goes, now. It's just what's up. It's like this movie is so crazy. There's so many unexpected moments. It's so funny. I mean, it's really a funny movie. And I don't know, I love that character. He's such a dope, but his buddy, his buddy, who's sincerely a badass. Wang, treats him with the utmost respect. I mean, he said when he's trying to cheat him out of his night's winnings. Yeah, you have that's true, yeah. But throughout the rest of the movie, as they're going out of this adventure, he sort of treats him like he's almost superior to him as a hero, right? And he's got this, he's sort of like AOC. Totally incompetent, but with tons, tons of confidence, you know?

Newsmax's Greg Kelly Discusses His New Book 'Justice for All'

"Got a book out called justice for all how the left is wrong about law and forcement. We all knew that the left was wrong, but how they are wrong is the subject of Greg Kelly's book justice for all Greg Kelly. Welcome back. So good to be back. Eric and you're amazing and amazingly dressed as usual. Seriously, the best dressed guy around. Even you don't have to wear a tie these needs to be well dressed. I was gonna say we're wearing a tie would be gilding the lily and we know that that's just not worth doing. Gilding lily, by the way, I coined that phrase in one of my early poems. Shakespeare gets credit for it. But I don't care. I'm like Reagan. You know what I mean? I don't care who gets credit. Got it. Greg Kelly, you wrote a book. Now, again, to refresh those in my audience who might have missed your last appearance on the program. You really do have an interesting background. So you are currently really the star of newsmax. And I want to talk about what's going on with newsmax and the censorship. But your book is about law enforcement, tell us a little bit about your background and about your dad, because that's what would give you a particular insight into law enforcement, particularly New York City law enforcement, which is where you and I live. Talk about that just for a bit, so we get a set up to why you wrote this book justice for all. Sure. Well, look, I've been a reporter and a journalist and talk show host for about two decades now. And I feel like you and I are a bit different from a lot of the folks on media. I mean, I sense a new a genuine curiosity about the world. I've always been faking that, to be honest, but if I sold you, I'm good. Eric, Eric. So if you do it very well and it used to be annoying when I was a kid because I would ask so many questions and then I found a way to monetize that I hung around with my dad a lot growing up. He was a police officer. And the greatest influence in my life, the book is dedicated to him. I'm not a law enforcement professional, but I am somewhat observant. I did serve in uniform and in the United States Marine Corps. And this is a book that definitely supports law enforcement. No doubt about it. That's the thrust of it.

Eric Schmitt Wins Missouri Republican Senate Primary

"Good Wednesday morning to you. It's the morning after election day. Eric Schmidt is the nominee in Missouri. That's a giant relief he's going to win handily, attorney general Schmidt. And now we have the field all but set. There are ten key races for the United States Senate. And I always focus on the Senate. Anyone who's listening to this show for years now. By the way, Kerry Lake is about 20,000 votes ahead of Karen Robson. I think Carrie Lake is won it, not quite sure yet. No one's called it, tutor Dixon is the nominee for governor in Michigan. And Blake masters, the nominee in Arizona. None of those unexpected, the Taylor, the Kerry Lake Karen Robson race is a dead heat statistically, and the polls have that completely wrong again. Do not read the polls. It's sort of like, I know Herschel's of Raphael Warnock. And I know the polls show that he's not. And I know that Doctor Oz is ahead of John fetterman, the polls show he's way behind. He's not. It's just that they don't know how to pull anymore and they won't admit it and they continue to use it because the media is left wing. And they don't want to make it obvious. Look, here is the rundown. I just tweeted this out. I hope you'll do two things. To begin this morning, might be a little bit. While trying to get my voice because that late night following results last night until I finally couldn't see any way to figure out who was going to win in Arizona's governor race. Eric, Eric Schmidt had won the Missouri race fairly early, as had tutor Dixon the Michigan race. There are four big races last night. Michigan governor, and my guy lost, I wanted Kevin rinky, but I kind of knew that tutor Dickson was going to win when Donald Trump endorsed her. I really mattered the most to me with Eric Schmidt winning an Missouri. I've got to tell you, we have a safe red seat there, a safe, deep red state that could have been thrown away and we didn't throw it away 'cause they nominated the strongest, very competent candidate when the show me state nominated Eric Schmidt.

"That Stafford is not the best quarterback in the NFC, but guess what? I'm like, he won the, you know, so to me, it's like, you know, that like, yeah, like Willis is not as good as Patrick Mahomes, but that's like one of many variables that goes into things. So I like the fact that the Broncos are saying, we have good supporting talent. We still have maybe the defense is a little overrated now, but it's still pretty good. And the chiefs do send me backing off and retooling about. Like, I don't think, you know, and frankly, for the previous two years, the chiefs have been beatable. I mean, they've lost a Cincinnati. They're very lucky to win that buffalo game. And which is that, I guess, if you want to make an argument against the hill trade, it's like how important hill was to that buffalo game. Like he just completely transformed the way buffalo tried to play defense. Like they would not have given up that lead to any other team. But they were just like playing incredibly soft defense because they were just terrified of hell. So that is the one you are like, you know, he'll really is a special player. So that is a major consideration. But so like, I love that trade for Denver. Maybe the two of you like it, but I don't see how this works for Seattle at all. I just think it's a strange situation. Well, Eric Eric, do you have more on the seahawk situation? Because I have some thoughts when we're ready to move on from that. Yeah, I mean, I just, I mean, it's mostly a long Scots lines. I mean, again, you know, the team wasn't going to win the way it was. I understand that. You know, there are a lot of problems there. But, you know, and I don't mind the idea of rebuilding except they don't understand Snyder and Carol doing it. Like, what's actually happening here, you know?.

"Progressives on the left And it was let's you know let's be honest it was successful Tony Blair was an extremely successful prime minister in the UK and Bill Clinton was reelected in the United States and of course of course it's like dust in the wind And so I'm not sure candidly that either Hillary Clinton or Tony Blair can give us a clear eyed vision of the future because they come from such a different political tradition that seems so far in the past now Well particularly when you talk about Taiwan as a possible flashpoint because of the sea lanes it becomes incredibly important and in Japan for instance you know would not would not just look away I'm not sure we have enough time to really go into this in great detail now Eric Just wanted to thank you for joining us and coming on Can you come on It's a pleasure It's a pleasure Honestly it's a pleasure guys to have substance of conversations about these issues that are of such great concern to us all not just a business but will everybody You're having them there and I know that's what you mean And hopefully you can have them here more often Thank you very much Eric Eric Yeah All right so the time now is about 38 minutes past the hour Let's squeeze and look at markets because we have a big unfolding story and that is and actually if you think about it Alibaba really goes to the heart of what we've just been talking about Because I should say it's my view that the reason traders are selling down this stock a lot is more because the future is unknowable and it doesn't look like you can really predict what kind of company Alibaba is going to be going forward Sold down 11% in the U.S. session It's down some 55 56% from its 52 week high that was just last November And its earnings while they were weaker than expected they still had revenues up 29% in a projected revenues up 20 to 23% and it was easy to sell into that because that was less than expected But if you think about it it's really the uncertainties going forward that probably are creating a lot of lack of confidence in the stock Ant group rose an estimated 39% its profit was up that much in the June quarter and it contributed a $1 billion to Alibaba's earnings In some other news in terms of the broader equity market the hanxing index is down 1.6% The hang seng tech index is down a similar margin down 1.6% The nikkei is still holding on to gains up a quarter of a percent but the a 6 200 is negative And right now we see the straits times index in Singapore negative down a tenth of 1% The tie axis is up about a third of 1% The yield on the ten year treasury now 1.59% slightly higher and WTI crew is slightly higher 79 13 a barrel Doug All right let's get an update on global news here on daybreak.

"Now Let's get to Paul Sweeney is back visiting his Alma mater Normally when he's out I imagine that he is sitting at home by his like an indoor pool that just filled with gold plated muni certificates and diving in and out because he loves his muni's So much So he's really the expert here when it comes to well I shouldn't say he's the expert when it comes to municipal experts We have an actual expert Eric 'cause ASCII joins us right now Senior muni strategist from Bloomberg intelligence We just heard President Biden Eric talking about getting his bills passed It's a lot of money for the country for states for towns for municipalities to be spending Does it make a big difference in the market Hey good morning That was a really funny visual reference Paul He does love tax free income a lot So that is very funny Look it's a big Bill And I think that prior to the news it just came out that they were asking a lot of the media friendly provisions It meant a lot to our market I think now it's just really a marginal impact in terms of money going to state and local governments as far as federal matching to get projects on when it comes to infrastructure And I think the key is really going to be how much money state and local governments are still sitting on and it's still sizable from all the stimulus and pandemic cash that went out to really spur them to sell bonds and really get issuance flowing in a meaningful way Yeah and all states and governments are not created equal here Some are in better financial positions obviously some are willing to put more money to work in those plans that you've talked about So where are some of the areas you're going to see the most inflows in the next couple of months I think it's going to continue to be in really investors trying to get the most yield and it's going to be an entire yield longer duration type plays And it's really confounding for me as a fundamental credit analyst that we have spread that really all time tight And we continue to support money into high yields and we're just going to keep on grinding spreads of lower and lower My hope is that the fed is sort of put a floor on municipal credits in terms of coming out and sort of saying we're going to support municipal credit in case there is sort of a backstep in terms of pandemic raging to the way it was in the beginning But at the same time investors want value And I think that's really going to be the key of where you're going to find that next year And we still think taxable meetings are really going to be the better option over the next few months Now that's so weird to hear because it's the tax free aspect that Paul loves so much Why would taxable munis be a good option Well we've got him to be a convert right He was not on board at first but we hammered it into him and now I think he's pretty sold on it that look you really have to do the math And sometimes the tax exempt option really isn't the best one So a lot of investors have realized over the last 18 months that even if they have to pay taxes they're going to come out better from an after-tax yield standpoint going with taxable unit and you're still getting that same low historical default rate that we need are known for So question here for you I mean you're saying investors are looking for yield obviously that's the story of the year or decade So what are people moving out of than to go into communities as we know that the funds this week alone has had hundreds of millions of dollars worth of inflows Yes I don't think it's a matter of them not moving out of something else to go into news I think it's just as a matter of fact I've just been adding more into their existing holding position Now funds have been sitting on a lot of cash and they've been sitting on a lot of cash for several months now going forward A lot of that had to do with where valuations were on municipals and they weren't comfortable buying at these really really rich valuations So there were tiptoeing into the market And now you have the time period over the last several weeks where ratios look a lot better meaning uni look a lot cheaper relative to taxable options and we have seen more money come in which means more buying is going on People are taking advantage of these dips per se People are buying the dick For sure Eric Eric thank you so much for joining us Always a pleasure to have you on Eric kaz ASCII is our senior muni strategist for Bloomberg intelligence talking to us about the market The other options that you might want to give a second look at for example the taxable options and also the effect that we're going to see from these big bills coming through as we just heard from President Biden a little bit earlier he would like the Congress to send the hard infrastructure Bill to his desk and the what do they call it like a family's plan or a build that better Build back better social initiative to the Senate and that could have some big.

"I'm also talking to John smirk. What a great day. John Merrick, we've you want to talk about a movie. What do you want to talk about? I thought I'd lighten the mood a little bit and tell you about a movie that I saw, which I thought was a lot of fun. And whose message might not have been in the end, what the makers of the movie intended? This is the movie the last stool. It was the last stool, the last duel. A duel. Eric, Eric, get you digestion treated. This is warping your judgment. Wow. Because I was going to say that is the worst title for a movie. They need to feed that. The deal and it's 70 France. It's about the last trial by combat in the history of France. You know in the Middle Ages before we had elaborate developed judicial system, sometimes they would try a case and the two combat the two parties would fight it out. And the belief was the guy would give victory to the person who was in the right. Kind of like David and Goliath. Right, right. But this belief had faded mostly by the 1300s. But this is a true story, based on historians account where a powerful courtier was accused of raping a woman who was married to a much poorer, more obscure knight. And she goes to the authorities about it. The authorities side with the more powerful one, the guy who victimized her. Her husband backs her. The only way to get justice is for him to challenge the accused rapist to a combat tri. Trial by combat. And they fight it out. And in the movie, you see three different versions of the story from the husband's point of view from the accused rapist point of view and from the woman's point. This is like Kurosawa's rationale.

"We. We need to notice because the transition with bill and his wife was her name. Melinda state and local rules may vary but generally if your spouse failed to respond to your divorce petition within thirty days you may file a request to answer a default along what they propose judgment. It may also be allowed when a spouse located for service. The court will set a hearing date. And ask that you appear and this looks like this is a general Answer and if and if one spouse won't agree to the or trying to avoid the divorce. The process may stretch out longer than expected. Some resisting spouses can make the divorce process. Very difficult by refusing to sign the necessary. Divorce papers Others do so by hiding or trying to avoid service. Meaning somebody serving them. How a judge will treat these situations. Depends on you live. Some states will allow the divorce to proceed uncontested others. Allow the petitioning spouse. Which is the one asking for the divorce to obtain a default divorce. Yeah so i mean it can happen. It just might be a little longer right but you know yeah eric. Yes city before we get back into the news One of our favorites is on the phone right now. Yeah we haven't heard from him in a while. Last time was a lot of covert going on. We'll talk about that. And i know he's busy. Everybody new york a. friend of mine and the show. New york knick superfan. Eric king on a false dawn in my listeners. Don't like me. Because i keep boasting and bragging about the new york. Knicks have been a nick fan since nineteen seventy four and my issue is a lotta the knick fans. Eric eric's facebook pages very bizarre. Everything's knicks. I think i think ericsson locker room it when start eric. I've i have a problem. It's pretty the scottsdale pause in that room sitting i eric. I have a problem with new york. Knicks fans who made the exodus over to brooklyn. You know when the big three came over there they left the knicks the become a net thing and my whole thing is. they need to stay over the abrupt. Yeah i have a problem with Do to on in big. Don't come back when we start. Winging you can't do his bandwagon flip-flopping back and full of i've been a strictly incredible dalhart nick thing. I think i'm the number one on the world. I tell everybody. I know some people. Tell me no. Spike lee arguing unless they need the richest nick bang. I'm the number one. Nick fan by eric. You bleed that blue and ours just like i do. And and i am seeking and searching and finding these knick fans and exit over the brooklyn. And i am dealing with them now. New york is the number one basketball team in new york city. You know why. Cj because even the nets get this international all star team that known globally when the knicks on a winning streak like they are now. Nobody cares about the brooklyn nets. Get higher ratings. Even with the on superstars in the superintendent with dengue of a long arm forbes sports to we bang neck and neck with the lakers for the last ten years but the majority is we came in number one over the lakers even though when he chain but now starting to be ridiculous own aging and sin on top of that there's only a small percentage of people that actually live in brooklyn outta brooklyn net fans the nets global international because of the big three. So the nets really technically. Don't even have. They're not even from probably know they. Originally from long island than josie then came to brooklyn. Is you know a thousand doctor. Jay was only chain before you had to sell. His rights took to payments many. They came across new jersey nets. Now brooklyn and ben china and just inspect the knicks. Ever since. Let me take cities. eric. I know eric eric. Eric turns down the john on a regular basis to go to games. Trust me eric. The new jersey the brooklyn nets payroll is sending almost ten times as much as the knicks. And we're only six games behind them. The season is over. We're going to go to the playoffs in a minute. And i must say this one more time. An apprentice james harding. All these guys. They don't excel in the playoffs. The brooklyn nets will get eliminated in the playoffs. But sitting. i'm gonna say this. Say to straighten out of eric. And i'm gonna say so you enterprise cine if the brooklyn nets window nba championship. This year. i will come in here with left nipple ring on with cynic with nets on my forehead and i love kevin durant shirt with boxes on. I will come. In and eric eric man. I can't do stuff like that. No more at one time loss of bet a jersey bet next playing miami heat. We lost to make the Take a picture unique nursing next jersey and leaving as my facebook profile picture into the next season. Some let me live picture with killing you. Jersey of another seeing. Never do that again. And it's like you're not wearing jersey hovering a next. I just can't go see. He's a true fan. And you know what i found. Disrespectful we go to our king. You know what. I find disrespectful about this leaving. Your home team is one thing. Sydney say you don't want the knicks and you want to go to the golden state warriors. Right i don't even though sign that but if you're gonna leave the knicks you know was even worse. Cj go to brooklyn to the rivals. You'll going to the rival team. Now shine some people up and change. Go no baseball and basketball of new york new york football down and basketball and now mind nose frequently flip-flopping at king on became a die hard His dog out as a young boy is out. Seventy eight years so out the biggest bang. Dr gay right so six slow. At first and tiny like mexican kareem solitaire. Blanche lincoln fan book look for narking on avi chain die hard when nobody else exists but the knicks kane on beaching fifteen is oh now okay to hyperloop monarch king you know was the knicks. Now i go wrong. Mix it up next snowy. I've been speaking since two thousand four. I think four buckets on the row. Every year won't go play. Philly lodgements swing knicks. "Runner that would be fine but we have multiple runners and they don't always running the same direction so i will go to a park if i go to a park with somebody else. Another mother and the park is mostly fenced. Because then i have fairly good confidence. That i'm not going to lose a child so then translates pretty well into we wanted to house with a yard fenced-in yes and so far. It has been great for our family. But when we when. I was so eric eric on the island was focusing on school. And iowa's focusing on finding a place to live when we transitioned. I'm also. I also have done the budget for us so i knew kind of we were wanting to stay out about what we were spending on the island. Which a lot of families have that is. Another like budget is another factor for a lot of people and a lot of people are like. Wow i can spend less in the states and that is true but for me it was safety. It was a house with a yard shared walls. Yeah no shared walls. We could have done a town home. Maybe if it was like the n town home. I did look at a couple but that was ruled out fairly quickly when i was looking around and seeing well we can. We can find a house for the same price what we were paying on the island and actually we are paying less a little about one hundred dollars less a month for this house. And what we we're spending on the island but mean that extra. We have two cars here. So there's extra cost in there that i mean obviously the second third and fourth years are a little bit more expensive than the first two years but the safety i think is a big thing and i am just the budget while she like. Karen said that you can find cheaper houses in the states and even on the island you can find cheap off campus housing and hate the same principle kind of rules here as it did on the island and maybe a little less on the island but you kind of get what you pay for so if you you buy mentor house. Say for thirteen hundred dollars a month and you you you probably gonna find that inevitably decent neighborhood and you probably gonna find is going to be associated with things that you would pay more money for and it. Same thing applies if you find a house for five hundred dollars. It's probably not going to have maybe the nicest neighborhoods. Maybe it's not going to be the nicest of houses. Maybe not the best school district whatever it might be but again. That's when you kind of look at your list and go. Hey it's not that important to me that my my neighborhood is like the best neighborhood out there as long as it's relatively safe i think it's fine or if you don't put it to be unsafe. That's fine too. Yeah one the other thing to look at is if you're renting a really old house just be aware that probably your furnace and you're all of that is older as well so you might be paying and the windows may not be as good so you might be paying a little bit more in your heating and cooling costs..

"Today. With Mark O'Connell and you talked about the coalition with our guests before market move reintroduced everybody as we talk about covert, but the coalition called Stop Stop the covert spread and right before the break mark you brought up and you kind of read my mind. Why are the Wisconsin numbers so high? What are we doing wrong or what aren't we doing to cause these numbers to be so high? That really that really is part of the question that is on everyone's mind. When you look at the way you watch the evening news or listen to the radio. We still we do seem to be a hot spot here in Wisconsin. We have with us today. Eric boarding. President and CEO of the Wisconsin Hospital Association, Kurt Bauer of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce Christine Hilmer, the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and Brandon Shoals of the Grocer's Association. Quite frankly, and I know I know all four of these individuals very well for many years. The most powerful people in Wisconsin, the people who drive public policy. They're also the people that were the energy behind this stop the spread coalition, which we'll talk about in just a moment, but Let's start with Eric Eric, bordering president and CEO of the Wisconsin Hospital Association. Eric Why is it that we seem to be such a hot spot here in Wisconsin? What is it that we're doing wrong or what is it that we're not doing? That's causing our numbers to be so high. Sure it's great question and First of all, um, it's it's not It's not because we're testing more. I mean, we're certainly testing more than we were. We'll say back and may in June, but we're not testing on a daily basis whole lot more people than we were. Um back then. The fact is the number of people that are testing positive. Is increasing and going up and in Wisconsin right now, to put this in a little more context. Already mentioned earlier. We have one of the highest positivity rates in the country, so the people that are being tested with Um, high rates of people were testing positive. Wisconsin As of a couple days ago, Wisconsin was Wisconsin had four cities in the top 10. Across the country, four cities in the top 10 that were, um That we're in the sort of highest on a per capita basis in the number of positives per day on a per capita basis, so We are. We are clearly a leader. Unfortunately, um, in in the number of people who are Contracting Co vid, um in the country. And there's no question that Cove it is. No, um, spiking, surging, spreading, Um, in many other states across the country. I think Wisconsin has been doing that now this in this fall period. Probably longer and ahead of the vast majority of those. Why is it happening? Um, you know, we think it Zaccagnini ation of things. Um, First of all, we've been dealing with covert Nell for Several months, and, um, there's a certain sort of covitz fatigue factor that That creep in and people are Have wanna live their lives and I want to be free and get back to normal And nobody understands that better than me or probably anybody else on this On this program. So there's a fair amount of that going on. You know, it's kind of like I'm so sick and tired of covert. I wanna I wanna live my life and I totally understand that I think there's a fair amount of that going on. Where? Obviously heading into the winter. Um, even though we've had a bit of a mild fall so far, people are Moving indoors more which is always, um, conducive to the spread of disease. We believe there's still a fair amount of large private gatherings going on. Um, I I'm see examples of it all the time. Um, all across Wisconsin that people share forward to me. So that's You know, those sort of things, which which caused spread are certainly going on. Not to mention the challenge of the holidays around the corner to not toe interject, But Thanksgiving is a big question mark for a lot of families. I hear a lot of personal friends of families saying We're going to go ahead with it. Well, that could be 2025 people inside a house not outside, but inside. Yeah, That's kind of what I'm getting at. Um you know, Thanksgiving Christmas fools are all very personal. Things that families hold, dear, Um and and you know, they might. There might be very little of anything that stands in the way of them. Gathering like they've done, you know, traditionally for years, um, but those those are the things that are causing The sort of rampant those types of things are causing rampant spread. Of cold did you know across are saying it's everywhere in her state and then and then I'll add two and I'm somewhat optimistic about this. I'll add that that we've just we've had a lot of, um, uh, different messaging. From our elected leaders think there's been some, you know, disparate sort of engagement on this issue. Just just at a minimum in terms of What? What? What should people be doing two to be cautious and be careful and slow down and mitigate the the rapid spread of coded? So I'm cautiously optimistic that we're moving into a better place on that front. Um, everything I've talked about, are all things we have the ability to control So there's some optimism. They're not all these air easy decisions, but We have the ability to to make decisions that can slow this down and and mitigate the impact not only in our health care system, but on our Our business is our restaurants and everywhere else, Um But we've got it. We've got to make. We've got to make those decisions and Why I'm so pleased with and proud of my colleagues on and to be partnered with my colleagues on this. Program who who were who are fellow co founders of the Stop the spread of covert coalition. It's It's an important tool that we all created. To kind of cut past. Ah, lot of the noise and the arguing in the politics that's been surrounding covert so far and really just focus on some very Very strong messaging consistently and much more to come. Strong messaging on what we all need to do to T turn this around. In Wisconsin. We're talking with Eric boarding of the Wisconsin Hospital Association, Kurt Baller of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, Christine Helmer of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and Brandon Shoals. The Wisconsin Grocers Association. Eric You had mentioned the Stop the spread Coalition, Um Be. Many groups got together and.

Prison Guards, Serial Bombers, and National Forest Murders

"This is a prison. Guard story Hello beautiful people. Hello let's get into it okay. My Dad he's really. My stepdad. Raised me my biological dad doesn't deserve the title suck at Dennis. You get to write in and you get to say what you want. That's right so my dad was a guard at a maximum security prison in Arkansas for several years during his twenty S. He has many stories about the job. But my favourite has to be the time he was almost murdered by an inmate. While working in general population he became good friends with a lot of the inmates in Gen pop and really enjoyed his job. However there are always some bad apples in person who wrote this under the Philippine. Ain't no one to stir up trouble on one of these. Inmates Really headed out for my dad. For some reason one day say he was the corrections off. That's why one day said inmate walked up behind my dad with a shaking. His hand made from a toothbrush just as he was about to attack. My Dad another inmate saw what was happening. Pulled out his own. Shame shanks for everyone. But no one's brushing. Their teeth came up behind the bad inmate and stabbed him in the throat. Oh my God calling him. Oh My fucking God. My Dad Remembers hearing scuttle behind him when he turned around. He saw the bad inmates body on the ground. The good inmate looked at my dad and said WHO's about to kill you. She's Christ Ama- journalists and naturally peppered my dad with questions including how the hell dealmaker shank out of a toothbrush. But he didn't know much more to the fact that is back with churn and they never found out what the inmates motive was. He was a murderer. Our Young. Let's about it it's jails jails and the place where you start critical and planning out. Good stuff that you're GONNA do. My Dad stayed employed at the prison for a while after that the good inmate ended up getting released on good behaviour not too long after he saved my dad's like well you know. I wonder if that was part of the decision making process. He saved a fucking a corrections officer and probably chances are took care of some of his own business. Amen Ra I mean you. You wouldn't do that entirely just for a corrections officer would you? Maybe not yeah good behavior including murdering people who were going to murder correction soft. Yeah it's all makes me think of is everyone should listen to ear hustle? Because it's a podcast that is made by people who are in prison day. Tell stories all about this stuff and they can speak to it right there. Probably like yeah. There's lots of critical thinking and in prison because you have to alive day your hustle one hundred percent the good. Needless to say we are all very grateful. My Dad had friends on the inside. Stay sexy always make friends in jail. Question Love Kate. Be The kind of corrections officer that people would want to say. That's true that's a good kind of life philosophy okay. If occur how about if a correction for corrections officer can make friends with prison. Inmates than you could make friends with anyone. Anyone in your dorm right. Stay positive. I'm not going to be the subject line of this because it gives away okay. Am FM crew. Great pod don't ever change. Here's my story on January twenty nine. Th One thousand nine hundred eighty eight Eric. Robert Rudolph bombed an abortion clinic in Birmingham Alabama. Roughly six months later my brother and I- ages seven and nine respectively. Were on a mission to make a hot summer day at least slightly different than all the other ones that came before it. Our childhood home in Birmingham. Suburb backed up two miles of woods where we spent most of our free ranch childhood. I saying on this particular day. We decided to take a left where we normally went right and came upon a makeshift camp ground. Oh my a single folding chair. Dozens of empty span. And even more michelob. Ultra bottles were scattered around the burnt-out firepit. Naturally our first instinct was to touch everything. He stomped on this pam tens through the bottles against trees and use the folding chair to reenact some of our favorite. Wwe move right after we had caused all the mayhem. We could and destroyed any chance of evidence collection. We ran home to tell her mom about our day. I'll never forget the FE. She made or the tone of voice as she related discovery to a nine one. One operator as it turns out. Police suspected Rudolph hit out in the woods around Birmingham for a while after the bombing after the police inspected the place they told my parents. It was probably just a local teenagers. Hang out spot but to this day. My mother swears quote. Only a psychopath would eat that much spans. Thank you Eric Eric. Robert Rudolph was finally arrested in two thousand three in North Carolina. Where he'd been hiding in the woods for years during his reign of terror. He bumped Centennial Park during the Nineteen Ninety six Olympics. Other borsch another abortion clinic and a lesbian bar all in Atlanta. After his arrest he explained he was fighting against abortion. End Quote the homosexual agenda. Fuck you real. He's currently serving life without possibility of parole in a supermax prison rate. Stay sexy and if you can't stay out of the forest at least don't disturb a serial bomber. Hang out. Jim Be as my dad made us clean up the scene after the call. Such a dad move. That is such a dad me ended up. Clean it up. We thought God Jim Amazing. That was real. That's so scary. Guys that is. That's like the that's exactly what the eighties were like. Yes destroy fucking Cobo camp that you found yeah could have belonged to a serial killer. Your Dad made you clean it up. You're the one somehow in your Brown quarter Iraq. That's getting in trouble that's right. This is witness murder trial. Hello Georgia and Karen as a longtime true crime fan and more recent listener of your podcasts. I have to share with you that last week. I had one of the most thrilling experiences of my life when was called as a witness in a murder trial. Oh my God I worked for the. Us force service in Dark Mossy sasquatch infested national forests in the eight years. I've worked for the Forest Service. I've learned that people will go to their public lands to do weird things. Yeah they do. I've encountered a cachet of stolen guns a wild west shootout between a real cowboy and some tweezers a hostage situation mysteriously exploding four wheelers and countless people that. I'm pretty sure did something illegal. I just didn't know quite what I was called. As a witness in a trial involving two young men who were very much under the influence of drugs that decided for whatever reason to steal a mini van belonging to one of their stepparents and take a trip into the national forest in the dead of winter. Two Thousand Nineteen during a week of heavy rain while. I'm not sure exactly the motive when the two men stopped at a campsite in the forest one of the men overcame and murdered the other one then set the minivan ablaze. Oh my God. My role as a witness was fairly minor. I was asked to testify when the campsite was or was not occupied that week in order to establish a timeline however it was absolutely thrilling to stand before a judge. Swear IN HELP. Put the murderer behind bars. He was found guilty. After a mere four hours of deliberation. I had to share this with you because it was just so exciting I do however feel very bad for the family of the victim who most certainly did not deserve to die that night in the forest sincerely. Cs Drugs Drugs. Drugs are a bummer Obama. The forest is Obama. Just like the idea of being a minivan high out of your mind. I have an idea. Let's go to a remote part of the forest and then all snap and lose my mind. Poor awful just not cool

Future of the Labour Party, ICC Investigation, Black-Jewish Relations

"Liam whore is the Europe editor for moment magazine. It has been covering Labor's antisemitism awesome scandal since two thousand fifteen. He joins us now to help us understand. What's next for that party for British Jews and for the United Kingdom Liam? Thank you so much for joining us. I thank you for inviting me for the most part analysts are chalking up. Labour's defeat to having the wrong message on Brexit but there is is no doubt that Jeremy Corbyn. The Labour leader was historically unpopular. And no doubt that a part of that unpopularity was due to the anti eighty. Semitism that he let grow in the party. Are there grumblings on the far left that Jews are responsible for his defeat. And that's something that British Jews are worrying about. I think what we've seen since the election is people on the far left at Labor constituency meetings and online researching the British Jewish Institutions. Such as the Board of Deputies or indeed the chief rabbi Were in fact stories or conservatives I should say and innocent intervening in the election on their side. That's what he wanted to the things that the board of Deputies hope that the future Labour leader will expunge from the and that is one reason why they've come forward with the ten pledges in recent days. You mentioned the list of ten pledges that the Board of Deputies the kind of umbrella Ella Organisation for British Jews that the Board of Deputies released just a couple of days ago they basically say that these are the ten things or perhaps the first ten things the Labor Party needs to adopt needs to do in order to heal its relationship with the Jewish community. And we don't need to go through them one by one but broadly what are these ten pledges calling calling for. Well as you say broadly the first thing is that Outstanding Cases Anti Semitism in the Party needs to be resolved and the discipline under reprocessed to have to be made independent again and sh- interference from the leadership team sort of around. Jeremy Corbyn in this process must come to an end thereafter. What's I think? What's important folder? The board is to reestablish a working relationship with the leader of your party after all when a function is to be a conduit between the panoply of organizations they represent and and the government Foreign bodies and so forth and finally just add that one of the things they want to see done is that the full I h Ra the definition of Anti Semitism. With all of these examples applauses will be introduced and used in disciplinary cases within the party. That was a major eric. Eric disputes within the party last year or earlier this year. And that's one of the things I want to get done here at. AJC We're very proud of having been a part of authoring during the era definition but for our listeners who aren't familiar with the definition and why it's so important. Can you just say a word about that. Well because of dispute within the party I should say making making more specific is that People on the far left of the party were concerned that this definition would prevent them from Criticizing sizing Israel or Israeli policy. Which of course? He's not well. The definition does he's indicate ways in which rhetoric concerning Israel Israel can tip over into antisemitism I believe for example if people would say that the actions of the Israeli government towards what's the Palestinians in some way resemble the actions of Not Towards Jews in Europe in the nineteen forties So really they had nothing to worry about. But this is all tied to a much larger augmented. It was rambling on throughout the entirety of Jeremy Comex leadership of the Liberal Party concerning anti Israel rhetoric break and wearing that becomes at. You haven't ISM or for example. If someone challenging British Jews were to somehow hold them accountable for the actions actions of the Israeli government. I think that would also be seen as anti Semitic under the IRA definition which is really important. Considering the way that often we've seen across Europe and perhaps in Britain specifically people tried to do that. Try to discredit jus. I think there's a slur that has cropped up in the UK. Zayas people who you you know. They're interested in defaming and demeaning. They don't really have any way to do it except to try to tie them to Israel so I think it's important that the Labor Party adopts the definition in order to make very clear to its constituents that that kind of thing is anti Semitic well quite an in recent days we have an example of that which is that There's no sort of I would say online activists By the name of Rachel cousins. Who goes by the alias? Rachel Swindon who has a following of tens of thousands of people on twitter. It's unclear whether she is or is not in fact a member of the party but she's nonetheless very close to the sort of cold and leadership and in response to the boards pledges. She tweeted that as I previously said that the board was essentially a conservative organization and also came out with is her own or Or perhaps found only list of pledges for the board which more or less argue that the board had to come out and condemn Israeli military action. In the West Bank thank or condemn what she calls the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian communities in in the West Bank in other words as you said holding British Jews accountable for the actions. uh-huh office ready government. which if they at the very least a dangerous road to go down and she somebody who has previous four in this regard having tweeted about the rothschilds and the so-called influence in the past so the point of this is to say that changing the Leo Party is only the first step? They won't be root and branch Tusk to erotic antisemitism from the Ponti it is always interesting to see how those people who take part in what is called the new antisemitism this kind of attacking Jews shoes on the basis of what Israel does how at the end of the day they are also just old antisemites in the way that she brings up Rothschild conspiracies and things like that. I wanted to ask you about one of the pledgers. In particular number eight is entitled engagement with the Jewish community to be made via its main representative groups and then in explains Labor must engage with the Jewish community Levi its main representative groups not through fringe organizations and individuals. That sounds like it's referencing. Something like there's some history there. Can you tell us a little bit about that. Sure I mean I mean Jeremy Corbyn is somebody who was throughout the time he was leader of the party. Never very much interested in the views and concerns all mainstream British Jewish ortganizations. He has historically been in most of the time that he was leader. Always much more comfortable with what the board calls fringe organizations for example He wasn't much interested in The Jewish Labor movement which is sort of the mainstream Organiz ation all Jews in Labor Party or affiliated with the party rather Jewish Voice Labor whose membership I think could fit into a phone box. I mean if you look at their rallies and meetings the the next in the Guardian newspaper. It's always the same ten fifteen twenty people who assigning these latches At the same time At one of the times when the relationship between Jerry in British Jewish groups was was at his lowest he attended a Saito organized by a group called choose. Who are legitimate tendency in the Jewish community and represent people who have felt themselves felt this affiliated pushed away from the mainstream left-wing clock but they themselves I'm sure would say the reps and also a a very small number of people also Jeremy's also been affiliated with sort of anti-zionist ultra Orthodox people who live in his community but he did not have a working relationship with the board he did not have a working relationship with the chief rabbi in so far as I know and not that he had a working relationship with with the Jewish Leadership Council? which sort of is a you might say a rival organization to the Board of Deputies also a representative group so this point eight? This engagement group is really about the board wanting to reestablish Atlantic communication and a working relationship with the party which is sort of one of the sort of raison. d'etre foil for the board. It sells I'm going to move on in just a moment. Kind of forward-looking questions but there is one more retrospective effective thing that I'm curious about. which is what are we to make of people who are real friends of the Jews or certainly seem to be who campaigned for Labor in this last election? I'm thinking of people for example like London. Mayor Sadeq Khan who has said all the right things about anti Semitism done many of the things about about antisemitism but nevertheless tried to make Jeremy Corbyn the next prime minister should we hold that against him. I case if someone likes to Econ we should not hold that against against him and I think I think you know people who reunite kind of position which is to say supposedly oh party but not supposed to Jeremy Corbyn were very torn because the reality is the British electoral system that much like the Americans. There's it ends up becoming a two-party system Elections to the House Elsa parliament more or less function like elections to the House representatives. There are six hundred fifty constituencies. Each insurance becomes its own kind of to race and in many any of them the racist between Labour and the Conservatives and so sort of I would say anti anti Semitic Labor supporters found themselves in a very Korea unenvious position of having to decide. Do I vote for the Conservatives and put into power party that I oppose my entire adult life likely. ooh Aw do I grit my teeth and vote for the Labor Party on the basis that I am somehow voting for the Party and voting for the candidate in my constituency. But somehow not Jeremy Corbyn and I you know I as a journalist. I love about the free in this regard. So I don't have to make such compromises but I nonetheless feel for people who know people like I said Connor or you could answer this people like just flips. Who is now a candidate for leadership who it's not about Anti Semitism in the pause About the kind of compromises. They had to make that time. So no we we. We shouldn't hold I bet against As you intimate in about a month the voting will begin to elect a new leader of Labor this kind of an interesting quirk for our American listeners. The voting voting will actually stay open for more than a month through the beginning of April and people can vote. I guess anytime in that span. Who are the names that we need to know who are likely Lee to win the election and are any of them going to be you know kind of on their own? The answer to Labour's antisemitism problem tackling the antisemitism crisis is not as simple as for lack of a better way of putting removing the head from the snake Having Jeremy Corbyn leader suddenly a good thing because the cost was it the crisis could not be it's solution But in terms of who will become the next leader There this prison time probably two main candidates on the one hand you have Rebecca Long Bailey who is perceived to be the continuity Corbin candidate the date.

Party Jeremy Corbyn Labor Party Labor Israel Board Of Deputies Europe Liberal Party Israeli Government British Jewish Institutions Leo Party Semitism Moment Magazine Representative United Kingdom Israel Israel Liam Brexit Jewish Leadership Council Jewish Voice Labor

Disney Closes On $71 Billion Acquisition Of Fox's Entertainment Business

"Support for this podcast and the following message. Come from e-verify, delivering the technology to help employers verify work eligibility for new employees evolving to support the needs of your workforce at either five dot gov slash go. Let's go higher. Many a movie begins with this brass fanfare. It's the signature of film by twenty first Century, Fox just after midnight that music and the studios behind it became part of the Disney empire NPR. Tv critic Eric Dagens has been following a huge merger and he's on the line. Eric morning, Dan. Yeah. You know, I'm reminded that chipmunks did a version of that. Maybe we'll get to hear that we can hope for that. We can hope for that. Okay. So that combines with the people who did when you wish upon a star on and on how big a deal is this. It's a huge deal. One of the biggest media deals in recent history. Regulatory agencies across the world had to sign off on this deal, including the US department of Justice, which may Disney sell off a bunch of regional sports networks that FOX own just to keep them from dominating too much of the sports TV industry here. So yeah, this is this is a big deal. What does Disney get? I mean, what what that had the label FOX on. It goes over to Disney. So this is a seventy one point three billion dollar deal and involves two of the biggest studios in Hollywood. So there's a lot of names involved in this and TV and film that folks will recognize so so Disney gets outlets like Twentieth Century, Fox television, which produces shows like empire and modern family. They get FOX animation and National Geographic partners. Now, FOX meanwhile has created this slimmed-down company to include a lot of the stuff that Disney didn't by. So they have Fox News channel, FOX business network. The FOX broadcast network and Fox Sports. And in fact, the former speaker of the house Paul Ryan was named to the board of that new FOX corporation, so Rupert Murdoch's family, which of course, is controlled FOX Murdoch keeps the stuff which we can imagine is closest to his heart like, the Fox News channel and gets rid of some of this other stuff, right? A company that's a little more focused on news and sports. Okay. Couple of consequences here. One. You could imagine a bunch of layoffs as these two companies, consolidate is that likely. Yeah, there's a lot of concern in fear at lower levels in the entertainment industry that thousands of people could lose their jobs when Disney starts to consolidate its film and TV properties. We've already heard about some of these bigger executives who are going to shuffle around. You know, there's some folks from FOX high level TV executives that are gonna move over to Disney to help run their TV outfits, and then a big -secutive for maybe AMC was moved over and took a job running, FOX entertainment. So this is going to be interested and will this change? What we see? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And this is another step in the streaming wars in a way, you know, Disney is getting bigger to compete with Amazon net. Flicks. The, you know, everything from Star Wars to dub dead pool is going to be in the same home, the Saint corporate home, they have the streaming service called Disney plus starting up so they're going to get a lot of material. That they're getting a controlling stake in Hulu, which is another streamer. There's a sense that some of the more adult oriented stuff might end up on Hulu and the more family stuff might end up on Disney. Plus, and then there's the question of what's going to happen with Disney owned ABC and FOX broadcast network once they have twelve months to really develop some new programming for each of those broadcasters, and we should note the Twentieth Century, Fox and Walt Disney pictures are both financial supporters of NPR and we've been listening to NPR TV critic, Eric Eric. Thanks. All right. Thank you. This message comes from NPR sponsor. Comcast business. Business has always been driven by innovators.
