"Oh like they could really do something now. A guy who little five yards can take it to house on any given play like. Hopefully atari killed type. Guy agree news. Eric enemy being a candidate for the usc job hot news or not news. Dang razzano. I'm saying not news for two reasons. One being me should be a candidate for for a lot of coaching jobs. And for some reason hasn't been also. I don't think it's going to happen. I think he around and goes for an nfl job. Which at some point. I believe he'll get so. I'm going to go with not news on those two fronts for eric enemy and the usc connection higher bmi. Yes or no not news at org. The enemy is a kansas city. Chiefs office coordinator. In the second week of football season he will continue to be the office coordinator of the kansas city chiefs in such do time that an nfl job opens up. Therefore usc is continuing to do our search and we will. At some point time come to the conclusion that will hire a football coach confident. Pi dan graziano. My name is keyshawn. Johnson and i will not be running for president of the united states. News hot news. I liked the idea of bmc before it was even reported It makes sense to me. Dan graziano hot news or not news. The colts being part of an in-season hard knocks who is in say news. Because i think by the time it's on. I'm not sure who's going to be left standing for the indianapolis colts that roster is. It's not baltimore but it's in pretty bad shape in terms of how beat up they are my concern. Is that by the time. This airs in mid november coats aren't contenders anymore. Because they have this rough start to the season and they're already so banged up. So i'm going to say not news and hope i'm wrong. 'cause i like a good entertaining hard. Knock see hot news for me because why the hill with the indianapolis colts agree to do such a thing when you trying to win football games if focusing on gain planning and not having some goofy stuff run around so people could see a train rick. Doing the season zero wait wait. So what's the answer. Why you ask the question. What do you think the answer is. I have no idea. i'm no it doesn't make sense. Why why why would you do that. Candidates sense out of nonsense. If i was on that team they would get nothing out of maybe a waste of turn. I'm focused in on trying to beat the opponent. Not worrying about who's getting cut. Who's doing your way. Dan do you think frank reich gets carson wentz back to two thousand seventeen four. I think he's going to struggle because the issues are having on the offensive line early in the season i think once can we'll be able to play and he'll be okay. I think we saw a little bit of that in the first game but no tackles right now. I just don't think is in a position where you're going to see and able to maximize the i have never heard the media and also football people make more excuses for a player than for carson wentz. He is very talented is very talented. He's very talented. He's very tough. He's thursdays hater eighties. And drinking a lot of it cobb. Just telling you the truth about once. Every was not just you everyone salty because the giants game which you can't blame him. Why would they ever agree to do that. What that's what i'm saying. Is he ever. Gold is this is. This can't make sense out of nonsense situations. Dan when kiosk why would they agree to be on hard knocks the colts. They're a pretty accessible group. I mean chris. Ballard has a thing every year where he brings their beat reporters in after the draft and goes through like the process and takes. They like showing fans and media. Look at sort of how they do things. And i think the leadership there when you talk about when you talk about think. It's strong enough. That i just don't think the distraction element is going to be a factor for them. I think it's a. It's a pretty big team today. Dan intuit is a distraction then early plus three and a half versus the rams. Just say a bigger problems to get out of here guys. We have some bills to pay. That's dan graziano. Thanks dan on..

I thought the same thing in the grocery checkout guy says lot checkout grocery. What kind of celebrity here. So go through that. Every day of idea of life you just went through a was always your bad. How are you. I'm good luck to you. I saw i saw your tweet where you're a little fired up about your euromonitor. Uc what makes you most upset about this situation. I'm quite tired of our alma mater former player's boorda regents alumni fans. And you know. Dan i love my trojans. You're familiar with our choice. Talked about it for many years. Is the arrogance and pride that we think a seventeen year old kid who plays madden has any idea that i played or that we want a national championship and seventy eight. They don't care. Hey man you gotta do it the trojan way. Yeah what's the trojan way going. Eight three and and ended up in the in el paso energy playing in the game at ut. And i'm being a bit suspicious. But dan that's it bothers me because we got to get out of that mode of seventeen year old kids out about half about a five year sentence span. They wanna know about name. Image and likeness. They wanna make sure they can play on. Tv every week national tv. They wanna make sure they can play for a national title. They wanna make sure that That the nfl's wait non them and that you understand. What would you know where they're coming from the kid modern day. Think about this dan. The kid at modern day knows more about the uniforms at oregon. They're good program than they do about student body right so if you're going to be the next coach you better buy in so the arrogance of us. See the history and tradition of a program. Those kids can get that when they get there but the histories for you and item over dan remember when i was in nineteen eighty one and i was recruited and q. Say that to a kid and he goes. No no sean. I didn't even know you did that. Man and that's probably the grocery checker kid let alone the recruit. So you've got to understand the knicks. They gotta do the now. what's happening. What's going to happen the next five years for forum. That's what they wanna know. They could care less about history and tradition. That's just that's the era. Were in and that next coach. Better understand that any better. Keep guys in one hundred fifty mile radius in the state and in the southern california area and at usc okay. Is this a more key job that you can go out and say hey we want you like we can pick and choose. Who we want is a great program. It it's dan. The names great and i don't want this sound conflict conflict tree to what i said. It's still people still know who. Usc is the problem is we. Can't it's like going in and missed placed when you're going through an interview misplacing what you're trying to sell about your program. I'm not trying to sell marcus. Allen heisman trophy. When you walk into mckay center you'll see that once. We got you on campus. Dan when i was there and before me and after me with all those great players one of them back we dogs in the program. We got good players. Don't misunderstand me. But think about four the top quarterbacks in college football. They're all playing in the playing somewhere else and it's not a knock on slow just the yearly thing. We used to be if you came to think about a dog in your backyard and we need dogs in the program but it used to be that in our backyard. If you wanted to take us out of southern california that you had to come in us up steelers and take us. And here's the recruiting trip. Here's your here's why you wanna play here now. We it s. We just opened the gate for you. Oh come on out man. Go on and play for nick sabin. He can waltz into your backyard when a guy at modern day knows more about alabama's program than he does the guys that are within thirty miles or fifty miles a campus. We got a problem. Yes it's still got that it is usc. But we're no longer that guy. Dan were a guy. It's like the guy the third backup tight end. Who's trying to be that guy but he's not yet we're now used to be that guy now. We're just a guy in college football. That were a guy to to to oregon. We're agai clemson. Were a guy to those programs. And there's a bunch of us. Florida state. Miami texas nebraska. But we're at the top. It's so we're still. It's still usc but it is at usc. Okay who it a recruit heart. Dan the men. okay. I'm the i'm the dayton. Yeah there's there's fifty guys we're going to hear i don't need to repeat the james franklin's in a map i'd love i'd love to interview. Let me give you a few that. I'd be really interested in talking to and that i like i need somebody. I don't care if he's sixty fives or thirty six. I need energy to match the player and understand landscapes chain so sneaky name. Why not joe brady. Young guy everywhere. He's been joked. With joe borough what he's going to do with darnold and i like him and he's done it quickly and it needs a quick trigger any twenty two first round his ear. So how's the offensive coordinator carolina for carolina and who was at lsu and had that big year. I'm just giving you a sneak. Not kind of franklin's or campbell's i. I also am intrigued with hugh freeze liberties. Doing some great things can turn it around. He's he's coached in big time. Sec little risky though lou. Jan you know what we guess. What sometimes that baggage. It may be a duffel bag now instead of full three piece suit and tastes okay. I'm willing to take a little bit of risk to get all the reward. Us's i- like eric enemy and here's why no southern california continues to get denied in the nfl. It takes a lot to bring that guy. The nfl coaches used to it now. He's gotta go babysit and college. But the enemy knows southern california knows recruits and also. It's a guy was so much energy. I think he'd be in his fifties dan. But when you when you're around and there's an enthusiasm that he's thirty and the also enthusiasm that he he understands with these kids want and he can take somewhat. Andy's doing what he wants. I like that. Of course. I like jack del rio because there's.

Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?

"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

"I'm just I have the gumption that none of your none of your impression sound like the guy. Go ahead. Eric. Eric enemy. Does it? Good jab. Yeah. This Patrick Mahomes is going to is is going to make this place board track than it's ever been. This is the place that people are going to wanna go when Super Bowls, and there's some guys that could be intriguing out even Gerald McCoy like figure it out if he's not if he's too big fees not big of a contract like figure that guy out to there's there's plenty of Earl Thomas, maybe Earl Thomas is in play who knows. It's a situation where you see everybody wants to hang out with that guy. I mean, he's or I want to hang out with them. Well, I mean, you didn't pick him for the podcast. So that's the bagel. But. They wanna spend time around him. He's our nerdy. Goofy MVP quarterback. Everybody loves him. Everybody wants to spend time around him. Everybody wants to talk to him. He got mobbed by NFL players at the Pro Bowl the whole time that he was there. That's ridiculous. That's the kind of a fact that you are going to see Kim. Exactly, right. There's probably going to be guys that are going to take less than they could elsewhere still a lot of money. Don't get me wrong. But less than they could elsewhere to come play and Kansas City because this is the spot that can get consistently to the championship games to the Super Bowl. And then all you gotta do make a couple of plays. And you can hold win the holding thing. Yeah. I think there's gonna be free agents that are more enticed to come to Kansas City in years past and maybe some other teams, I think football on like other sports. You don't get as many guys that are willing to take substantial pay cuts to go for that championship. Just ring because it's such a violent physical sport your careers, literally on the line pretty much sixteen. I guess nineteen twenty games if you're going to play to the Super Bowl every single time sixty times a game. It's not like the NBA or major league baseball where you can just go onto team take a cheap contract in there. Still a very good chance that you're gonna be able to make it. And if not you can go sign a big contract again the year after the NFL kind of matters. If you go take a low end deal to try to win the Super Bowl is just such a huge risk. So it doesn't happen ton. Now, the patriots have gotten a lot of guys to do it. It's usually guys that nobody else wanted but very rarely do superstars really top guy. Is take substantially less money to go play football for another team. Just because of the ring in the NFL. I'm interested for the possibilities of that with Patrick Mahomes. I just don't know if the cheese are still going to get any major bargains because of it. I'll say I don't think it's bargains as much as it is. I think he's a tiebreaker. I think some players might be willing to be a little bit more creative with structure of contract potentially to make sure it works because I think you do see that in some instances across the league. So it's not necessarily, obviously, if the jets wanna pay you fifteen million not taking ten to come to Kansas City. But you know, if the can get to fourteen. Maybe if they might be a little more apt to kind of be flexible in kind of work at such that it makes sense to help this team actually have the assets to win a Super Bowl. So that's kind of where I'm at. I think it's just gonna be like flat out. I don't think clay's Campbell's coming for five dollars. I don't think Earl Thomas is coming in playing for league minimum. But they might be more willing to to maybe make it such that it's more feasible for them to go chasing. And and bring stuff around them. That's it for this week's episode. We will talk to you next week and the AP draft show. We'll be back next week as well. Talk to you later. My name is Spencer home by name is Jason card. My name is Ryan nanny combined. We form the shutdown full Tron keep telling you this forecast is technically college football podcast. But it's also a show about care disaster regional grocery stores..

"Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty. Eighty six we got a lot to get to Jake coaching. Search started off. Kingsbury to me would have been such a risky higher. Guy was non accomplished college. Coach. I thought maybe Kingsbury employees being offensive coordinator somewhere. I'm very surprised. Arizona Cardinals game the job very very surprised. So I'm glad to see the jets sake. They are not moving in that direction. All the names that are out there. I get it. There's a risk basically attached to all of them. Eric enemy. He's never coached before fits Adam gays people skills from court TV. It's the way it went down the final couple years in Green Bay. This gonna come a surprise to what people honestly for next year. If you tell me, Mike McCarthy item gays. I'd argue Adam gates, although I think my choice right now would be Eric Bana me why. Because look at that chief coaching tree. I know I don't really have anything to pace this on. Basically roll the dice. That's the way. It always is when an offensive or defensive coordinator or guy's never done it before. But I say not Nagy and Chicago Doug Peterson with the eagles. It's worked out pretty nicely. The eagles are the bears bellyaching about either one of their choices from that. Andy Reid coaching tree. Are may okay with the jets going towards that. Andy Reid coaching tree. Even if it includes the guy who doesn't have hey coaching experience. I won't story short. No matter what the jets do here. They are going to hire a head coaching candidate that you could somewhat screw nuts. I don't think they can hire a slam dunk coaching candidate for some of. You will be Mike McCarthy. Now, me let's say the queen's going to lead us off here on a foul is up know JJ what's up? You're not being fair. Mccarthy man, listen like you said there is no slam on the slam dunk candidates. They got jobs so that like right now from the field, his resume alone. You speaks for itself you giving him a hard time with ROY Rogers been I heard player, Matthew. They share and Rogers was still able to play with. They were they were they're well coached team. Yes. Or no. Obviously, not no. That's a problem though. Diba don't you think over the last? Diba squeeze the most out of the prime Aaron Rodgers the last five or six years, they should have one more Super Bowl. But how about the onside kick the guy drop in the playoffs? Bad luck to deboned. Win. The whole thing is not an easy thing to JJ. Sometimes you gotta get Lucknow. Listen diva. You don't have to tell me that. I'm a fan of Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins never never maximize that window. And I was with Don Shula. But I would argue the Green Bay Packers of the last four or five years coaching. Was cause for concern. You talk the Packer fans the world that they're moving on from Mike McCarthy now, I don't know if they throw with Matt will four their choice coming over from the Tennessee titans. But they felt like Mike McCarthy's time had come and gone now maybe for Mike McCarthy a change of scenery. Just like Andy Reid leaving Philadelphia. Going to Kansas City. Just the doctor ordered. Andy Reid was able to. Revamp is country style will. Can Mike McCarthy did the same thing. The other question. You would have is is Mike McCarthy. A New York guy. I can't say with certainty. A coach who would get very combative and would be very dismissive of reporters in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Is there? I say going to be able to handle the mini shoes and new rich sa- means in all the JP guys and gals as tough gig now for everybody. You could say the same sort of things engaged. Oh. Like, I said. There's not one candidate out there. That's chemists. Mason fascinating puts a lot of pressure on Mike cabinet specially with McCarthy and gays to guys who are very much alpha mouse, I know a lot of jet fans going to call me crazy insane. I'd actually prefer Adam gays over Mike McCarthy. But I would because I am always looking for the guys got something to prove. Now, some will say McCarthy's trying to get out of that shadow Aaron Rodgers, maybe. Maybe I'm overreacting to what I saw in Green Bay the last couple of years. But I know gays is very bitter after what happened down in Miami. Now, his people skills got to get a lot better. He can't be Eric Mangini part two. Guy who had his people skills question. Go from Queensland in New England, and I'm not comparing Bill Belichick Adam gays, but it can be done. That's the blueprint. Let's say the Playfield Jeff fees up next on a foul is up. Jeff. Jeff. Yes. Jeff what's going on? I I don't think giving Mike McCarthy credit enough because at the end of the young quarterback any developed Aaron Rodgers similarly in the Jackson area, you might be able to have that Donald and another point Adam gays. I mean, I was about to say he kind of got my point Bilbao. The check didn't have doesn't have the most the most the most back chemistry with all players. But you get smartest guy in there. It'll be coach a long time at the end of the day. I'll get you Super Bowl. I understand that Jeff but Adam gates now needs to learn from his mistakes in Miami. That's the issue for him. He has to grow up a little bit. He's a smart football guy. He did a great job coaching. The dolphins is first year one four and they got the tenant sticks. And they made the playoffs. Maybe he will do things a lot differently. The second time. I've watched him coach every game in the NFL 'cause coach my team. I liked him as coach. But when people skills relationships what your players or problem, sometimes you reach porno return. That's something he will need to improve upon. But he's young. He's got something to prove like you could sell me on that. I don't for some jet fans. The guy who was fired by the Miami. Dolphins is not going to constitute being an inspiring choice. I look at the last four or five years for Mike McCarthy and it cause for concern. Why is it Mike McCarthy to number one candidate in Cleveland? John Dorsey has a relationship with Mike McCarthy. Freddie kitchens getting agile as he should Baker Mayfield Watson, that's his guy. That's the best way to move the organization forward. Not everything with Mike McCarthy is a disaster. So I don't want to be pinned into that corner. Saying why hate not Mike McCarthy, I just think is far from perfect. Those last couple of years in Green Bay would scare me law said mount Holly, New Jersey CJ is up next on a foul is up CJ. Dick supported the case for this job. I think he really does. Do you ever watch it on the sideline? It looks like he's a man of the game. He's a smart guy. He's an articulate guy. Here's what he needs to work on my friend, people skills player relationships that sort of thing CJ that can sabotage you and the cockiness and the arrogance of Adam gays in Miami absolutely hurt him. Now, we got some breaking news. Here we go. This is breaking news CJ, you're going to like this from Adam Schefter ESPN. Former Packer said coach Mike McCarthy doesn't want to be considered and is in pursuing any other head coaching vacancy other. Then the New York Jets per source said have it McCarthy wants the jets. It's the only job he wants. So now the ball is Mike maccagnan's court is McCarthy your guy, we'll have to wait and see. Very very interesting. To the jets in the draft third overall pick. Great. The buck all over the place. The it's been all over the place CJ. And I think it's because of the differing opinions when a lot of these guys on a defensive line and more specifically what each of these individual teams is looking for what their scheme may be what they're fit may be. So that's why I'm not surprised you'll see one guy three you'll see another guy. Fifteen honestly, even have a lot more clarity. Once you hit mid tape late April. You're not gonna have that clarity. Now in mid-january. You know? Right, but state, I don't want to make those. But I don't want to. I want you. I totally agree with that CJ. Totally agree. Appreciate the call Zoe as the jets haven't had. Oh a. Age rushing pass rusher. Going all the way back to the days of John Abraham Wilkerson had a big year. I know Sean Ellis was a pros pro. But I'm talking about your prototypical speed guy that you need this modern day NFL. I totally agree with that day. That's the sort of pass rusher. Whoever is coaching the New York Jets. She want as part of their defense. Then I asked you Jeff fats, Mike McCarthy watched job is that who you want to be coaching the team in two thousand nineteen. I bet good majority. You're gonna say yes, I just think he's far from a slam dunk. I know someone look at them that way. I don't see it that way. Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty eight six it's JJ after dark.

"A typical J day in the mid west just kind of overcast and Leumi. And but that's the way it is. And that's the way we like it. 'cause we know when the summer comes in. It's the start of the new spring year in baseball this year will forget about all of this, or at least we hope so I don't know. But the fact of the matter is we are here to persevere until until three o'clock this afternoon. A lot of things in the hopper. I want to get to not the least of which is the search for the Bengals new head coach. And why it needs to be somebody outside of the organization fan base needs to be juiced. Right. I mean, you gotta get the fan base geeked again. And if you don't get the fan base geeked, then the problem is is you can't sell tickets. And if you can't sell tickets, then you can't really and truly get a jump start on this thing. Now, this is no reflection on. Some of the guys that are up for the job. Hugh jackson. I. His two chances at being a head coach. We're not very good. Absolutely. Not very good. Now. Maybe it was the organization or maybe it was him. I don't know. But I know this that if they rolled out Hugh Jackson as the head coach, it's not going to be something that's going to juice the fan base. It's just not. Darren Simmons has been around a long time as a special teams coach. I'm sure he's very good at what he does if they roll out Darrin Simmons, and they say, here's Darrin Simmons. He's our new special teams coach. And now he's gonna be our new head coach you get crickets save with Bill laser. I'm sure he's very good at what he does. Although frankly, I think he got a little bit of a pass this year because the defense was so horrid it kind of put the things that he did. And some of those were real head scratchers on the back burner. But if they come out with Bill laser, and they say, here's our new head coach people are gonna say Bill who. It just it to me. They've got to get proactive and get outside of the organization someone that has had no ties to this team. Vance Joseph another guy, you know, he he he fizzled in his time in in Denver. Just wasn't that good and his time in Denver. So when I heard that they were interviewing him, I said, well, that's interesting. But how would that geek the fan base? The Bengals earn a tough tough spot. They really are because they're up against seven other teams, and they're all looking for head coaches, and it's all the same. They're all the same guys that are that are going here there and everywhere to interview for these jobs. So they're in they're in they're in competition with teams that have more to offer either in terms of climate or facilities or heritage or market size. Now the hot name that's out. There is Eric b enemy who played here in the nineties. I remember Eric Bana me I did the games on radio back in the early to mid nineties. And Eric enemy was part of just seems like a whole stream of people that just marched in and out of here. And Eric enemy is going to interview with the Bengals. He's meeting with the jets and the buccaneers today, and then he's going to interview with the dolphins. And then he's going to interview here with Cincinnati. Okay. He's interviewing with the buccaneers the dolphins and the jets what are those three franchises? Have that? Cincinnati doesn't have. The jets are in the number one market in the country. The jets are big time. The jets have a fan base that strong and demanding they wanna win the buccaneers play in one of the most beautiful cities in America. They play on a field surface. That is quite possibly the best in the NFL. And the dolphins are in Miami. So you've got the number one market and to warm weather markets in Florida where you know, what Obama player I want to go to a warm weather market. I wanna play at least eight of my games in warm weather markets. Arizona. Is a another town that offers a lot more than Cincinnati. It just does doesn't make us bad. Does it make us inferior? They just offer more. They've got great climate out there and they play indoors. Now, be enemies not going to interview with the the cardinals. But Arizona's another team that's in competition with. The Bengals for head coach. Josh mcdaniels another guy the Bengals wanna talk to. I'd be wary of him. Just because what he did to Indianapolis last year. He was all set going to Indianapolis. Left the team at the alter turned out. Indianapolis was fine. They got Frank Reich. They're in the playoffs. But. Josh McDaniel would bring some sort of a different touch here and would be coming from an organization that is the most successful organization of its generation. My point in all of this is that if the Bengals just do it the Bengals way promote from within make the guy take along some assistant coaches that are still there. They're not going to win the game. They have to win. And that is the court of public opinion. Look, I I sit in this radio station on Sundays. And as the season winds down as we get into the months of November and December and the team is in the dumper, which it's been the last three years the interest in the Bengals is nil. You can't get people to call in. You can't get people geeked because you can't talk about strategies for games. And what games mean and what happens if this team wins? What happens if that team wins? Because it doesn't matter. The team is so bad. It doesn't matter. And the only way you get relevant again, forget about winning winning back your fan base. I think that's going to take a long time. But before you can win back your fan base. You have to get relevant again. The only way you can get relevant again is to be competitive. Win games. Have a chance against teams inside your own division. And unfortunately with what this team has gone through the last three years, there's nobody on that staff that will make this team relevant again. The opposite of love is not hate the opposite of love is apathy. And that's where the Bengals are right now. They're in the middle of a city that is apathetic toward them. It's their own doing. They stuck with Marvin Lewis to long. Okay. It's a business. That's the way Mike Brown wanna to conduct his business, but they stuck with a guy too long. And so each year, it was the same old thing the same old thing the same old thing, and they'll tease you on the tantalize. You everybody gets geeked on draft day. Everybody gets excited about the minicamp. Everybody gets excited about the start a camp all they got off to a foreign one start. And then they let us down again. It would have almost had been better if they got off to a one and four start because the letdown after four and one was a big big letdown. So I understand why the Bengals are going through the process of interviewing. In house candidates. I understand that. In a lotta ways it makes sense bringing back. Vance Joseph for an interview to me makes no sense. Hiring any of those people would make absolutely no sense. What do you have a problem and the problem has been around for a while? Any CEO of any company that sells anything knows the first thing you need on a problem is a fresh set of eyes. They must go outside the organization. I don't know if it's Eric b enemy. He's the flavor of the month. The chiefs are hot he's offensive coordinator. He's benefiting from a really great season by his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. I don't know if it's Josh mcdaniels. I don't know how good of a coach Josh McDaniel is I know he's got the greatest quarterback of all time. And that makes everybody smart whether your Josh mcdaniels or Bill Belichick extract Tom Brady from that team. I don't know. How smart any of those guys are? But I do know this. Unless you're willing. To admit that maybe the way you've gone about your business up until now has been less than adequate you won't get better. And worse you won't draw back to the equation. What you really really need relevance first. And then a fan base that you've letdown far too often your thoughts on what I just said seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one thousand seven hundred dollars AT and T are you with me? That the Bengals need to go outside of the organization and bringing a coach with a fresh set of eyes on a really really old problem. Let's take some of those phone calls. Now, Jim is an Anderson and wants to weigh in. Jim you go right ahead. Okay. Jim. Couple of things. Vance Joseph if an outsider, so I don't know how.

"W Mike Allen and Saturday mid day. Marvin Lewis is no longer the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. He has departed with the class that you would expect of Marvin Lewis he is without question a class act, and he's getting some recognition appropriate recognition to I think for the Marvin Lewis fund the charity he established that has done so much good in this community. He's a class act, and he deserves to leave this way. And he did say to believe that he'd like to stay in football in some capacity, and I hope that's true here to talk about that. And more importantly who may be the next head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals is Lance mcalister, Lance. What do you think about all this, Mike? Good morning. It's been a wild week from Monday morning when I told into Paul Brown stadium at ten through through today. They they have been very diligent as an organization and how they're approaching this. Hopped a plane to Los Angeles yesterday. They were to conduct two interviews with with Zach Taylor. The Rams quarterbacks. Coach Shane Waldron. The Rams passing game coordinator they have one scheduled today with Eric enemy. I think by the end of the weekend, the number will be somewhere in the neighborhood of sixty coaches, they will have interviewed. I don't know how close they are going to be. But they seem to be they seem to be on the track that I kind of heard on Monday and cut it attracted the teams with openings Aren. Everybody seems to be looking for the same thing. They want a young hungry aggressive, innovative young mind, and that's kind of a blueprint around the NFL so many people are looking at what the Rams did Mike. They hired a shame McClay. Sean McVay two years. Cody. Thirty two years old at the time at the results have been instant impactful, and I think everybody says the way the game has gone. Everybody's score. And everybody in the ball. Let's get young guys who think out of the box can mold the college game to the pro game. And I don't know how many are out there. I worry that that Sean McVay cut excuse everybody else's thoughts that if you get somebody young they're all going to be like him. It's gonna be very interesting to see how plays out, you know. And what you just described. I couldn't agree with you more from the people that they're talking to that appears to be what the Bengals are thinking as well. But when you were talking about that, Lance. I don't think you're describing Hugh Jackson, and I mean, no disrespect to him. But I don't think he fits in that category. Do you? I do not. I don't think it's I don't think there's any possible way. Mike, they can they can package and sell huger this fan base. And if one of the reasons, but a parting of ways between Marvin and the Bengals was and it it truly was the lack of attendance that kind of shook this organization to the core. If that was one of the reasons, then there's no way you could expect to turn Aladdin higher, Hugh. I I've said during the week, I think if they hired Hugh, I think Bengal fans would view it as worse than having that. I think they'd rather have Marvin. Hire you for the job. So I think unfortunately in that again as you to your point, it's not meant to disrespect Huey wrong time wrong place wrong situation. I think Hugh and certain roles coordinator is a very bright mind. I think he was at a Methodist situation in Cleveland. I don't think they could put him in this situation to be the head coach here. No way. I mean, they've got a chance to score some points with the fan base. And I agree with you that that would not score points on your blog. And I'm looking at it. Now, it's really funny. You've got the odds NFL odds from WWW bet online. And it's the odds for who is going to be hired as the Bengals coach and all the other coaches as what the all the other teams. And there are a lot of teams looking for coach Bengals Brown's Broncos Packers dolphins jets and the Tampa Bay bucks who is your favorite, Lance. If you have one as to who you think will be named the Bengals head coach Mike right now, and I call him my clubhouse leader. And I've said I reserve the right to change my mind once all the golfers come off the core analogy, there are others to be interviewed that we're probably not even aware of right now. But right now, the circle of people, we know they've reached out to or. Interviewed or going to. I like Eric b enemy and it's not because he's a former Bengal Eric was a running back for the Bengals back in the nineties. I came to him as a free agent, but from there he's gone on a career track. That is included stops in Colorado. He's he's Dhamma moderate colleges running backs coach he was offensive coordinator there. He's been with UCLA. He's been with the Vikings. He's now with the Kansas City Chiefs, ease Andy Reid your right hand man as their offensive coordinator. Now the knock against the Mike is the offensive coordinator. But he doesn't call the play. Well, Andy Reid is a genius head coach and play caller. So I could understand that. I I think people want to knock Eric because he's not calling plays in that doesn't take into account. He's he's involved in the input during the week is the coordinator the offense. He's he's scheming and game planning. He has called plays when he was running the offense a Colorado when he was in college. Here's what jumped out to me. Mike, I read a piece by Jake Glaser, one of the NFL insider. And he said a very be enemy. He is very creative, and he instantly energizes a room in J rope. I think he would energize a place immediately and Mike that speaks exactly what this team meets. They need a jolt. The fan base needs a joke that locker room meets a joke. Now, the problem is going to be Mike Eric the enemy they high candidate. Right back. You the Bengals aren't the only team saying, hey, do you want to work rush? There's other teams like tapping him on the shoulders ain't come work here. He I think he interviewed with the jets are dolphins last night the musical chairs are tough to keep track. But I like him at this point. It's a matter of how much he's going to like the Bengals. And you bring up a good point there, Lance. I mean will the Bengals be able to get the head coach that they want for the reasons that you have just outlined that perhaps there are a number of more choice jobs out there for head coach, look, if you're the Bengals in your your draw at the legal pad and a line down the middle and pluses and minuses there if you're the coach looking at that situation the Bengals have some pretty good talent. It's not great talent. But Mike if you and I were taking over a team that had AJ green and Carlos Dunlap and Gino Atkins Joe mixing and Tyler Boyd and William Jackson, the third. That's a nice little to work with. So that's a plus on certainly patients for the organization. From the odor is A-plus are looking at the Bengals we know we're going to get plenty of time to to do our thing. Eight bar below at sixteen years. You never wanna playoff game at the plush. But the negatives. Are you know, what the perceptionist Bengals don't spend a lot of money? They're a mom and pop organization run by an owner who who their perception is you know, he does things his way and he's stubborn. So there's that give and take and you match all that up against the other teams, you ran through them. I I've seen the projections this week by NFL people say if the eight openings they would rank the Bengals job eight. I completely totally reject that there's no way that bad. Now with a quarterback. Now with Jake green talent, I ran through my team. It's made the playoffs last eight years. I mean, they're not like a hot a complete and total dumpster fire. There's some things that need to be fixed. But I would think it somewhere after I think the Packers Browns jobs are kind of one to the jets maybe three I probably Bengals somewhere around four out of the eight. And I think it will be attractive to some. Unfortunately, it's probably gonna be their second or third or maybe their fourth choice if they happy other teams. Yeah. And that's and that's something that I didn't really think of until you raised it, and hopefully, they can get the guy they want on your blog is I said you have the the betting line and Eric b enemy comes in at five to one Bill laser two-to-one, Hugh DAT. You Jackson Five to two, and I gotta ask you about this one at the very bottom, boomer. One hundred to one and I don't think that that series. But is there any inkling that he wants to leave that great gig that he has to be at NFL head coach. There is not in fact, what I saw Mike one I laughed and two I thought well bet online gambling. I think they're checking people paying attention when they put out and probably maybe a laugh on a Friday afternoon. I I will say what's funny. One of the responses I got from a follow on Twitter too. That was he says heck, I'd rather hire. Anthony. In the little guy for furniture commercial. I love that give everybody a good lap. And I think that's all. It was. Okay. Yeah. It's interesting reading people ought to take a look at it. Hey, I gotta ask you about the university of Cincinnati Bearcats football team a big win in the military bowl. I mean they had one L of season. And there's some speculation apparently, or at least I've been reading it that Luke fickle has been courted by West Virginia university. Is there anything to that Lance? And boy, please tell us that he's not going to leave Mike. There was a little bit too to the extent he listened to them. According to reports them being West Virginia. But West Virginia yesterday officially been announced, but they have selected the tour university football coach Neil Brown. And he agreed. A six year deal. I understand what one why West Virginia would be interested in in Luke pickle, west Virginia's president is Gordon who was at Ohio State when Luke was at Ohio State, and as you mentioned Lucan UC had a hell of a year. But from Luke standpoint he won this year, Mike, he's got one of the youngest team. They're going to be good next year. I think at some point Luke's going to leave for a better job, unfortunately. But I I think he's content to kind of sit tight win again with UC next year. Maybe happy opportunity for some better jobs to entertain and maybe jump in a year or two, but I understand why ultimately he doesn't go to West Virginia, and why they've gone at a different collection. Yeah. They gotta keep him. I mean what a season they had nobody expected it. And I'm glad to hear that somebody else is going to West Virginia and not him last thing, Lance. I gotta ask you about the national championship college football. My beloved Notre Dame fighting Irish, you're right. Just annihilated. Did by Clemson does Clemson have any kind of shot? I guess they always do but a legitimate shot at Alabama. I thought I saw Lance where the point spread was only. I think four points that kinda surprised me and Mike. It's it's funny. You say that because it's dropping it's dropped through the week. I wanna see that started around five and a half points and dropping a little bit. And and I can't wait the bowl seasons. Been kind of a Doug at this point. This is a match up. This is a colossal matchup. And the thing is I don't think there's anybody who doubts these are far and away the two best teams in the country and put them on the same stage, Monday night, they know each other. They played each other. How many times in the last four or five years? I give Clemson a shot. I think it's a very even close matchup. Alabama's had some issues with special teams. And and in some they're not be well oiled machine they've been pretty damn good. But I think clemson's good enough. I think they're going to go toe to toe. I think it goes deep into the game. And honestly, it wouldn't surprise me. Either way. It goes I I think it'll be closer to a field goal game. If I had to bet I probably would go with I think clemson's got a edge in my mind, and I say slim because it's that close I can't wait to watch man. You're right about that. You know, watching the the Notre Dame Clemson game. What a disappointment. Hopefully, this one on make up for it lands. As always, we appreciate you, giving us your point of view. You got it my category weekend you too. Thank you, Lance mcalister, Lance. Thanks dot Clemson may have a shot at this. And he's right about one thing that is going to be a Titanic struggle..

"And Clemson the last time team started and ended the season one to eight people with two thousand five southern cow was number one until losing Texas and Vince young and the national championship game. Sorry tired of the tide and Tigers on this stage. Kurt street isn't news on Golic and wingo. I guess it depends on who you're fan of you know, I'm I'm a fan. Instead set of excellence and right now these two teams or at the top of the heat, we told you August, if if we said, we're sitting around talking who do you guys mix gonna be staring at the end, we would have probably almost ninety percent of us would have said Clemson and Alabama probably gonna be there because they have the best teams and might just sit here. We are those are the teams that have advanced if you're a college football fan, just like if you're an NFL fan or college basketball fan, or whatever you're a fan of I personally, I don't even care who is on the field. It's it's great. I like competition. I'm a guy like that. I I like to watch teams go at it. And if they playing for the first time the fifth time to time, I I enjoy it. So I think there are people that are making a point about it'd be nice to have other teams. I get that. I can appreciate that. But you know, you have to beat these teams in order to be able to get there to eliminate Alabama. To eliminate Clemson both these teams had scares. I mean Syracuse almost give Clemson a scare almost beat them. In-depth Sally, Alabama. When school went down in Atlanta against Georgia, Georgia almost beat them. They were up twenty eight to fourteen and Jalen hurts was a hero that day. So both these teams had some scares. But at the end of the day, they're the two best. And if you're a cynic and your conspiracy theorist visible in you live on Twitter, and you're a pain in the ass. He's probably don't like this guy. Let's get you caught up on the NFL coaching carousel. The jets have interviewed former dolphins coach Adam case for their vacancy. They also interviewed chief offensive coordinator Eric enemy on Wednesday. John Elway meeting would Steelers offensive line coach, Mike munch for the Broncos vacant position a hill. Meet with patriots linebackers coach Bryan floors as well as bears defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio floors. I candidate to interview for the dolphins job. He's been a pass assistant for the last eleven seasons. Brown interviewing saints tight ends coach Dan Campbell. "Up baby. Maybe outside of this building. Become problematic. It's certainly is what he said there. And then a question about maturity. You this as? Point. You know, like I said last week, you know, the circumstances being what they were in the amount of things that we were going through it wasn't allowed a communication there. And then he kinda can bothered on and on and on. But so you certainly get what was going on in Pittsburgh yesterday. Not good for Tomlin. We'll see what they do going forward. The jets in terms of what they are doing and the coaching situation they met with Eric enemy in Kansas City yesterday by all accounts, don't meet with Adam gates tomorrow. And at some point expected to talk with Mike McCarthy who was supposedly with Cleveland today. Be interesting to see if he gets out of Cleveland without an offer. What is up with Greg Williams? He was interviewed Tuesday. Right. That's right. So he's got a chance to keep that job. Then. Freddie kitchens was also interviewed. Okay. So yeah. So he could stay, but they're doing exactly what every other team should be doing that is acquiring as much information and detail amongst all these coaches, you just never know you never know when you may run into another coach or so, let's say you, you're you're. Interviewing Kevin Stefanski. He is the offense coordinator finished a year for for Minnesota. He was the right hand, man. The Pat Shurmur when Pat Shurmur was the offense coordinator there. So he's going to be interviewed by Cleveland. Why wouldn't you interview that guy? So now, let's say you're really impressed with them. He's got some great ideas. But you know, you really don't think that he's ready to be your quarterback but Mike McCarthy's looking for an offense coordinator, and you like that guy, and maybe he and Mike each other, and maybe they can come together as buddies and they can be your offense of staff. So that's how you quite possibly could be building your staff as well. So you keep interviewing until you find the guy that you really want and you wanna make sure that you've got the right guy. I have no problem with through the jets or any of these teams or interviewing ID, I didn't even view as many as I possibly could hear was Jamal Adams with the yesterday. What he's hoping for new head coach green energy, you know, taking care of his players. I think that's huge. Because that's that's when we get gossip to play for you. And they wanna play for you. And he was very outspoken about Antonio Brown. You never know bring the energy. I wonder what he means by that. You know, Todd Bowles was always full energy. You imagine Adams with Rex. "Of course are a quarter of the league is looking for a head coach right now in the process and interviews or all over the place right now. Markelle Mike McCarthy is interviewed or has interviewed with the jets and will interview with the Browns. I believe tomorrow, but he will not interview with the cardinals. So we could we could touch on. We could throw it. Anybody throw out. Any coaches out there that are floating around in the interview process, but I just want to focus on the cardinals who seem to be in a difficult spot. They make the decision to go one and done with Steve Wilks, which they felt it was a move. They had to make. But even despite having Josh Rosen a top ten pick quarterback. It doesn't seem to be a place that people want to go because Eric b enemy the chiefs offense coordinator and Mike McCarthy have outright turned down an interview with the team. And that would make me very nervous. If I was Jason some altern the rest of cardinals army. I gets basically they offered Mike McCarthy full power which would have meant by by general manager, Steve. And then he turned that down Mike McCarthy has options. It sounds like from various reporting and unless Mike McCarthy is totally into when wowed by a certain situation. He's not going to take something less than that. In the cardinal same with Eric enemy who's turning into a hot name himself. The cardinals have one of the worst rosters in the league. They just fired a coach after one year. So what situation? Where will you be a year from now if you're Eric b enemy and take the same type job? It's there. There are many options out there. This is the least attractive by far. But we at Dan made a great point. I think it was on Twitter show about, you know, the hot takes the come this time of year and who looks good. And who looks like maybe Mike McCarthy, and Eric bien me turning them down might help them a bunch of coaches, turn them down who were fired quickly in the Bruce Arians hiring cycle. And then they got stuck with Bruce Arians. It's so hard to know they are going to interview cliff Kingsbury who is the UCF of coordinator who just was fired by Texas Tech. Who also I believe has another interview Adam gates, I think is going to interview they're supposedly he was high unjust Rosen in the draft in canned oftens or maybe gonna take in Dan Campbell. So who knows it? It's just weird. It is interesting McCarthy is kind of like the big cheese on campus. So this organization is the same colts were in a year ago. Totally devoid of talent. Wants to coach them. And now they're in the playoffs. Well, desperate Daniels seem like he wanted to coach him with Andrew and get a guy. How often do you not get guy after the Super Bowl the F B enemy, Eric because they thought they had an agreement with with the number one guy on the Mark. Eric enemy also has limited time he has so many interviews and they're still in the playoffs. But yeah, he's basically saying sorry. And I have I know I know you, Greg your football philosophies, and your takes it is very much on your radar that people like this Mike McCarthy figure so much right now why like it I kind of want him to land with the jets as a patriots fan. I wouldn't mind it like, so we're two different Munzer. I know you despise McCarthy's co I don't despise them. I yet to be yet to be convinced that he's a huge value. Add. But he he was a good coach there for a long time. There's no doubt. I think part of what makes him so attractive is the great unknown for everyone else because he's like, well, this guy has like six hundred winning percentage he has a Super Bowl and. We know he's not gonna collapse once he has the responsibility. And I think that is an attractive quality to have especially this year with eight I think experience matters. Absolutely. I don't know if he's bringing you a big offensive mind or not that's more. Like, I think he wasn't two thousand six I don't know if he cut a works with the jets, in my opinion, I think that would be an interesting fit. All right. Jim Bob cooter is a man that was once seen as a gifted offense of mind..

"Six six the average American has been a great American ten brew. The Bill Cunningham seven hundred wwl w on this. Wednesday afternoon. Hope you're doing well what? This is this is just like a typical day in the mid west just kind of overcast and Leumi. But that's the way it is. And that's the way we like it. 'cause we know when the summer comes in. It's the start of the new spring gear and baseball this year will forget about all of this, or at least we hope so I don't know. Now, this is no reflection on some of the guys that are up for the job. Hugh jackson. I, you know. And now he's going to be our new head coach you get crickets save with Bill laser. I'm sure he's very good at what he does. Although frankly, I think he got a little bit of a pass this year because the defense was so horrid it kind of put the things that he did. And some of those were real head scratchers on the back burner. But if they come out with Bill laser, and they say, here's our new head coach people are gonna say Bill. It just it to me. They've got to get proactive and get outside of the organization someone that has had no ties to this team. Vance Joseph another guy, you know, he fizzled in his time in in Denver. Just wasn't that good in his time in Denver. So when I heard that they were interviewing I said, well, that's interesting. But how would that geek the fan base? The Bengals a tough tough spot. They really are because they're up against seven other teams, and they're all looking for head coaches, and it's all the same. They're all the same guys that are that are going here there and everywhere to interview for these jobs, so therein, therein. They're in competition with teams that have more to offer either in terms of climate or facilities or heritage or market size. Now the hot name that's out. There is Eric b enemy who played here in the nineties. I remember Eric Bana enemy. I did the games on radio back in the early to mid nineties in. Eric enemy was part of just seems like a whole stream of people to just marched in and out of here. And Eric b enemy is going to interview with the Bengals. He's meeting with the jets and the buccaneers today, and then he's going to interview with the dolphins. And then he's going to interview here with Cincinnati. Okay. He's he's interviewing with the buccaneers the dolphins and the jets what are those three franchises? Arizona is a another town that offers a lot more than Cincinnati. It. Just does doesn't make us bad doesn't make us inferior. They just offer more. They've got great climate out there and they play indoors. Now, be enemies not going to interview with the the cardinals. But Arizona's another team that's in competition with. The Bengals for a head coach. Josh mcdaniels another guy the Bengals wanna talk to. I'd be wary of him just because what he did to Indianapolis last year. He was all set going to Indianapolis. Left the team at the alter turned out. Indianapolis was fine. They got Frank Reich. They're in the playoffs. But. Josh mcdaniels would bring some sort of a different touch here and would be coming from an organization that is the most successful organization of its generation. My point in all of this is that if the Bengals just do it the Bengals way promote from within make the guy take along some assistant coaches that are still there. They're not going to win the game. They have to win. And that is the court of public opinion. Look I sit in this radio station on Sundays. And the only way you get relevant again, forget about winning back your fan base. I think that's going to take a long time. But before he could win back your fan base. That's the way Mike Brown wanted to conduct his business, but they stuck with the guy too long. And so each year, it was the same old thing. The same old thing the same old thing, and they'll tease you on the tantalize. You everybody gets geeked on draft day. Everybody gets excited about the minicamp. Everybody gets excited about the start a camp all they got off to a four and one start. And then they let us down again. It would have almost had been better if they got off to a one in four start because the letdown after four and one was a big big letdown. The chiefs are hot. He's the offensive coordinator. He's benefiting from a really great season by his quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. I don't know if it's Josh mcdaniels. I don't know how good of a coach Josh mcdaniels is. I know he's got the greatest quarterback of all time. And that makes everybody smart whether you're Josh mcdaniels or Bill Belichick extract Tom Brady from that team. I don't know. How smart any of those guys are? But I do know this. Unless you're willing. To admit that maybe the way you've gone about your business up until now has been less than adequate you won't get better. And worse you won't draw back to the equation. What you really really need relevance first. And then a fan base that you've letdown far too often your thoughts on what I just said seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one thousand seven hundred AT and T are you with me? That the Bengals need to go outside of the organization and bringing a coach with a fresh set of eyes on a really really old problem. Let's take some of those phone calls. Now, Jim is an Anderson and wants to weigh in. Jim you go right ahead. Okay. Jim. A couple of things Vance Joseph daughter..

I I love Chicago, by the way, my wife went to business school out there. You gotta rhumba from north western. So we actually lived in Evanston. Chicago is pretty awesome. Especially in the summer. Paulie? You like the food. Love the food. A lot of people don't like the deep dish pizza. I mean, I like the deep dish pizza, but that push you down for the count. Yes. I mean, you're out that if I knew deep dish pizza, I knew I was going to bed early and feeling bad and your mustard guy. Hotdogs Chicago a lot of people when they sell hot dog stands. They don't even include catch up on them on a menu, and it's frowned upon. But catch up on a hot dog in Chicago via frowned up. I'm not a catch-up guy. We're going to be joined by Albert breer in a couple of minutes here from the QB NBC sports, boss. We need to talk to him about everything going on with all these coach hirings coach moves in a couple of minutes. You know? It's funny though, we were just I was just talking about windy city rehab. I mean, that's basically what Matt Nagy is done the head coach the bears. And that's what all these teams twenty five percent. A quarter of the league needs a coach. And frankly, right now is there anybody out there that you'd really be excited about mclovin. Is there a guy that you'd be like, oh, man, if we need to coach that's the guy I would want. I mean, Josh mcdaniels is the name that keeps popping in my head. But it's complicated. Like you said before the show. I don't know Zach Taylor BC's an extra on McVeigh. I just love that next. Sean mcveigh. I keep looking for the next Schaumburg. Everybody's the next. Everybody's looking for the next Sean McVeigh the thing that's weird about mcdaniel's is not only what happened last year with the colts. But he's a quarterback guru. You know, his strength is quarterback and offense and he traded up to draft. Tim tebow in the first round, isn't that kind of? I mean, isn't that my if I was interviewing if I was interviewing Josh, my first question would be like, we'll Josh how do I know if we offer you the job that you're going to take you know, what happened last year, and you have to ask them what happened and indie, and then number two would be so talk me through the Tibo thing because I'm hiring you for your offensive and quarterback Accu men and you traded up in the first round and take him. I played in New England for Josh. I really like Josh personally. I think he's very good at what he does. But I think those are big questions. Paulie the chiefs offense coordinator Eric enemy. He's interviewing for a few different jobs. Do you think people look at guys like Matt Nagy, and Eric enemies say they could put a system in that makes my quarterback better than he is like Mitch Trubisky may not be great. But he's playing pretty well in this offense. That's what they're all looking for right? But one thing like, let's just grab Eric enemy. What was funny about it? Now is everyone just says you got to go ahead and hire anybody that's. Worked under Sean McVay or Andy Reid, and they'll come in and they'll fix my quarterback. Which is not the case. I mean, one of these guys, I don't know Zach Taylor the enemy or whoever it's not gonna work. Let's ask my buddy Albert rear doesn't absolutely terrific job for the QB for NBC sports, Boston. You can check him out on Twitter. Like, I do at Albert breer Alvar always good to talk with you, buddy. A lot to get into. I guess I want to start with the mcdaniels thing. I don't know. If you heard what I was saying. But I feel like the combination of whatever happened with the colts last year and Tibo I feel like those would be my first two questions if I was interviewing him, and I feel like that might be that might be tough for him to to overcome well in you know, I think I.

"Miss the playoffs. Like that is a part of this that the league's got to figure out, right. Because the only people that hire coaches really are owners to end and some situations GM's, but you've got to figure out why joke for years, they would just bring in a guy Anthony live with the guy that they would bring in. So they can say they say two Rooney rule knowing that they had no intention really guys to head the two black. Head coach is left. Both are in that situation. That Tomlin nobody thought he was getting that job. Like people can laugh at the rule say all why would you do? This get token interviews. Well. Anthony, Lynn and Mike Tomlin. We're both super longshots for jobs that wowed people in the process and proven to be I believe excellent head coaches. I know for Anthony Lynn it's early. But I think he's an excellent head coach like we we've got to figure out why it seems like the glass ceiling for a lot of black coach leagues defense coordinator. No, no, black coach gets to be that knew that sexy. Offense of genius. Maybe Eric enemy, and Kansas City is going to change that. But I don't know. But just quickly getting back to the whole coaching carousel aspect. How much of this is a we love the concept of the Sean McVeigh. We're tired of the like that staunchy coach that's been in the league for years and years. We want to go out and find the next new bright young. He's exc- thing sexy. Playcalling whatever it is. But like what Nick said they're just now where are you gonna find them? But how much of this is we want to go in the direction of where someone say like the the Rams went. Well, the league is a legal trends. But that's the say that is not any young bright office of minds out there. We'll see what happens. Eric the enemy, and what happens with some of these other coaches that you'll make put their name and a hat before longtime. It was Kevin sullen for a long time. But he lost it you'd think about at the college ranks. I haven't seen anybody pulling any African American coach from the from the college ranks to be up, it'd be ahead. And as far as like, they can say we won't young sexy coaches, but who was hired last year. So Jon Gruden was hired. I feel like I know that named Pat Shurmur was hired feel like I know that name remapping Tricia was hired these first time head coach. But we know that story if you are a coordinator for the patriots get a head coaching, at least interview people John Josh mcdaniels exactly so Frank Reich was he thought his time was over Peter King had a great story about a Frank Reich was talking to him last December thirty months ago, saying man, only I'm ever going to get my shot the Maryland job, and it turns out, but like maybe they got their right guy. In indianapolis. One of those young sexy hires was Steve Wilks two years ago. Vance Joseph they got a combined three seasons between the two of them with. Quarterback play. No one should have to do with either one of them and they're out. So I I think I don't know that a lot of these teams have a plan, I do know this. It's no shock that the teams with the most consistency. Coach the patriots the Steelers the saints. The ravens the Seahawks the chiefs the Panthers. Those are the teams that almost never bought them out. Right. Gotta go. More sexy. Coaching talk after this. I'm kidding coming up. How slim is the patriots margin for error this season next person. Broncos Dawson Broncos fire their head had Broncos place there. Joined four other teams the Browns. Packers jets in buffs who had already parted ways with their head coats weaving, eight openings currently in the NFL, the more the took him back our NFL insider, Dan Grazziano. So Dan, the firings all went down. Now, the hiring process begins. So who are the candidates that everybody wants to interview? Well, familiar name Josh mcdaniels got phone calls yesterday. We remember Josh from almost being the Indianapolis Colts head coach last year and then backing out of that deal after the Super Bowl, but teams remain interested. He's forty two years old. He's seen as a very good coach and teams want to talk to him. He's going to go talk to the Packers this week. Remember these guys who have buys Eric enemy the chiefs offense coordinator, Dan Campbell, one of the saints assistance of Vic Fangio the bears defensive coordinator and mcdaniels Bryant. Laura's in New England. They do their interviews this week while they're on by by rule guys. Like Matt flus in Indianapolis who don't have if he's going to interview it's going to have to wait till next week. So that's the way the schedule shakes out. So people are eager fans are eager to know who their new coach is going to be. But the way this works. These interviews get scheduled some guys can interview this week some canon of you till next week. We could be entering kind of a protracted process here. Dan, remember when Josh mcdaniels basically stood up the colts there everyone in the league was saying there's no chance he's ever get a get an opportunity again, it just so interesting to see how time heals these wounds, and certainly winning does. Right. So what are you hearing around the league as to which opened spot is actually the most desirable in the league? Now, you know, they say you live in interesting times. It's the Cleveland Browns of all teams like the Cleveland Browns are the most desirable head coaching job available right now because the young quarterback Baker Mayfield that everyone's excited about, but he also has a pretty good roster around him compared to some of these other teams, you know, Jarvis Landry star wide receiver. You got studs on defense and Myles Garrett and Denzel award lots of cats base. Cleveland is seen as a very desirable job. Green Bay Packers. Desirable job because you get to work with Aaron Rodgers. And now, look we know that the last coach may have had differences with Aaron Rodgers and might not be super easy to work with them all the time. But he's a great player, and he gives you. Has to win every single game. And it will be appealing for someone who wants to go there to see if they can squeeze the most out of what remains of our Rogers, maybe help him win another Super Bowl Packers winning edition. That's desirable job. And then honestly, the New York Jets again same thing we said about Cleveland with the young quarterback. Sam darnold is a prospect of people are excited about finished the season, very strong not as much around him. So it's more of a building job. But the jets have protracted projected excuse me to have about one hundred million dollars taps base. So you have the tools with which to rebuild you have a high draft pick you have Sam darnold and place that you feel good about. So those are those are three spots that I think sort of stand out among the eight that are currently open right now in terms of desireability, Mike maccagnan say yesterday to ESPN that he does not want to hire a coach that wants or demands for full control over that Rosser soda. Does. You're saying to see. Yeah, I'm sure he does exactly he wants to keep his job perhaps another year. Rene certainly should be optimistic with Donald under center. Graziano? Thank you. All right to new year will NBA resolutions. One teams resolution is to trade young star. But not the one you think. What's that?.

"And you get ready for some football tonight. And of course wild card weekend of coming in the National Football League. This falling black Monday in the NFL, Thom Tillis, our guest from the NFL network, and and Tom a quarter of the league is changing coaches seems like a lot. Why why do you think so much turn over this year? There's a lot. But it's not that off of historical norms. The NFL turns over the entire league every four years on average. I think that what's unique about this year is that you don't have the typical type of candidates that are available. Normally, you know, it's probably about sixty percent of hires. The in the hot veteran offensive coordinator types this year, those guys don't exist. I mean, you want to say John D Filipa was going to be that guy. It doesn't work out for him in Minnesota. He gets fired. You have Josh mcdaniels. Of course backed out on the colts last year. He's in the mix again and has a couple of requests for them. And then you've really got a bunch of you know, relatively inexperienced guys guys with your having called plays or only three play called plays. And that's why you're seeing names like Eric enemy with the chiefs and Zack Taylor with the Rams getting, you know, a decent amount of action at least in terms of interview with quest. Just simply because you know, teams aren't exactly sure where they're going to find that guy. And you also see a bunch of teams that And if. putting out a lot of requests. You know, you could see teams do it. Doesn't interviews your bore simply because there aren't that many targeted candidates outside of Mike McCarthy? Well, that actually brings me to what I think is a net positive like, I I understand when you look at the number of African American coaches only two currently in the National League, it does get somebody's attention. But one of the hardest things to to do or to have if you're black head coach. I if you're a candidate is do you have head coaching experience. And now through some of these cycles, there is a depth of guys the gym call wells out there as well. As the Marvin Lewis is and others that have lost their job. But they do have head coaching experience, which is kind of part of breaking through in changing some of the ratios for the future. Is that a fair way to look at it? All potentially. You just have to think then. Okay. You'll Vance Joseph tenure in Denver more irresolvable with skate Wilkes his DS tenures reflects well or poorly. I mean, see Wilkes is. I don't know. Exactly. But I believe he's late forties. You know at that point too. If ever does he get another opportunity. I think that that's where you have some issues here. If you're going to, you know, let's take zone as an example, you come in with a team that signed Sam Bradford for like twenty million dollars you draft a quarterback. Hi, they didn't hire Steve Wilks until like three weeks after last season ended. And so a lot of his picks for assistant coaches were not available..
