"Tuned for everything he left from KCRW and so much more common. Twenty nine. This is the takeaway. I'm tansy Vega on December thirtieth seven year old. Jasmine Barnes was shot and killed in a WalMart parking lot. She was in a car with her mother and two sisters in the Houston area this weekend. Police have made arrests in the case the murder was initially thought to be a hate crime. But these new arrests have changed the picture here. With more is Shelby web reporter with the Houston chronicle. Shelby thanks for being with us. Thanks for having me. So shelby. What do we know? So far about they were two men who were arrested by police for killing jasmine Barnes. What do we know? So far. Sure. So a twenty year old his name is Eric black junior was arrested after he failed to signal while he was turning he was in a rental car. And while police were looking over his stuff and found a little bit of marijuana. They discovered that he was a suspect in the shooting and began sort of grilling him and through that conversation. He's waved as. Right to remain silent in told law enforcement that he was the driver who was driving. It wasn't the red pickup truck that has been widely described in news reports it was another rental car, and he described his role and also pointed to someone else who might have actually fired the shots in. It turns out the one that prosecutors have pointed to saying that he was the one who actually pulled the trigger as a man name a Larry Woodruff who was already in custody on unrelated drug charges on Sunday. His bail was set at about one hundred thousand dollars. He has not yet been charged in the shooting of jasmine barns. But those charges could be coming in the next few hours or so so this case drew national attention, a because it's a murder of a young girl, particularly this was thought to be believed a racially motivated crime initially, the shooter was believed to have been white. You mentioned the red pickup truck that was also believed to have been part of this. None of those things seem to be true anymore. Shelby. How? How did that misinformation? Get out there. So fast. Well, a lot of this was eyewitness testimony from a Jasmine's older sister fifteen year old Alexis Dilbert, and you know, at the time, you know, she's fifteen she's hearing gunshots. I'm sure she's terrified. And you know, what she saw was a red pickup truck and a white man driving it now thirties believed that he was just sort of a bystander, and he's sort of sped away to try to get away from the shooting as well. But I mean, it sort of points to eyewitness testimony, and how it can't always be known as the, you know, the most credible type of evidence. And there was also another player in all of this Shaun king who is a writer and also a civil rights activist got involved, and he sort of helped identify the ultimate suspect. But also was involved in some of the initial miscalculations. Can you give us a sense of what his role was ultimately? So he passed along a tip to on the Harris County sheriff's office that ultimately identified Eric black junior to his Instagram account that sort of. Ties some of it together, Mr. king, you know, he he put forward a growing award. I think China requests information that would lead ultimately to an arrest. And I know you know, how these things go. You get thousands of tips. I'm sure heated and law enforcement did as well. You know, filtering through that, you know, I'm sure that some leads seem more promising than others, but it's hard to sort of make the sausage in a case. Like this. What's coming up next Shelby? In this case. So charges will likely be filed against Larry wardrobe who has been identified by prosecutors as the likely shooter that'll probably becoming today. And then I'm sure the case will be working its way through the courts. There's still a few unanswered questions right now in terms of who these people were actually targeting Eric black told law enforcement that they were trying to target someone else. A law enforcement hasn't released that I don't know if they actually will. But now is really a time for Jackson's family in the broader Sheldon community in general to try to. The healing process. I'm Jasmine's funeral will be public funeral will be on Tuesday. And I'm sure it'll be very well attended Shelby web is an education reporter.

Also, this idea he's also floated the. That the money that comes in from the new tariffs on goods is going to pay for it. Does this guy not know how the government works? That's not what happens. Okay. This money. Must be appropriated by congress. It doesn't come in from tax revenue. It has to go through congress. Okay. Through tax revenue. It's still has to be a portion by congress and congress is going to keep saying, no because guess what they were saying.
