The capital remains on lockdown person apparently drove into hit some Capitol police officers. This is on the Senate side. I guess if you've been the D, c, you know where that is, If you haven't maybe don't really this matter, But this is matters is the condition of these officers. There was an ambulance seen taking two people away Now word That the suspect upon striking these officers for whom were in prayer, probably get out of the car with the knife. We're hearing now that one of the officers was stabbed, so continue to keep you up to date on that. This came this morning. Um It's not a story. I found one of the team maybe brought the strippers great story. That there's getting Chris McCarthy and he's the president of MTV Entertainment Group. And it's just, uh from the Washington Post. He's about to offer a rare mayor Copa and undertaken ambitious plan to remake programming and MTV and sister stations, including comedy Central VH, one and even Paramount, Plus And he was inspired to do this because he's worried about the effect they're having on the mental health of of young people. He was inspired to do this because, of course. The Duchess of Sussex. Talked to Oprah. About being sad and depressed. No, it's her right to speak this And you could be plenty rich and plenty depressed, asked the family of the late Robin Williams. And this was the turning point. He says that About the scene, and they're like spinoff of Jersey Shore. Whatever it is There was argument and terrible relations between boyfriend girlfriend and Terrible things said and pushing and shoving. Having reality stars say someone is really messed up. Well, that's not the proper way to reflect the story. It sends the wrong message about somebody's mental health. We need to do better. Uh, You're supplying programming. Where Where the reality is non reality. And where young people are saying, Why can't I get paid? To take my shirt off. On TV. Why can't my life be? To get to be famous for being famous. Listen, I've been around team metal health. I'd be glad to sit with you one day and go through the actual harmony doing Not rush, of course, was on the cutting edge of societal evolution about all the problems with call pop culture years ago, this infuriates me What is happening that the outrages me It scares me. It insults me is it's all of it. We're losing the country and what What is frustrating to me is that so many people Don't see it, and those who do are not willing to do anything about it. Everybody scared. Everybody is frightened. What's gonna happen to them? If they've been everybody's afraid of the Democrat Party? That's where the fear in this country is always afraid of the government. Afraid to speak out there free to do anything about it. It's it's It's the path of least resistance for them. But in the meantime, this whole notion that Society owes anybody what they want. If they can say they're discriminated against for some reasonable when it gets to the point that we're providing The means and the finance of the resource is social activities or whatever it is, it's It's scary to me. This is all part of a culture the tier rating because fewer and fewer people and fewer and fewer businesses And fewer and fewer institutions actually have a moral core. Or they're not willing to stand up for their moral court for and you talk about the double standard, and one of the greatest illustrations of it is That Rappers can practically say anything they want about women. And it's called art and they win awards for it. I don't know about you. I have some television shows that I like tonight Evil. And, uh, the P word that stands for urinate is common now. Or when you're ticked off, you are It's common. The word bitch is common. In sitcoms in television dramas. You know, I'm so naive in my hopefulness. For 23 years. I've been doing this on this stage of the four years prior to that the sacramental actually, 27 years I've been doing this and every year It's easy to see the cultural recline taking place the rut right in front of our eyes and I keep for all of these years I've said to myself, okay at some points go to bottom, and people have had enough of it, and it's gonna end and it never does It Z nowhere near bottoming out, and it's nowhere near people standing up something in nothing, but it's getting worse and it's going to continue to get worse. It one of the things of Andrew Bright Bart is being Lionized in his death. And he is being heralded in his death. One of the Things that the bright Bart empire Was focused on Was pop culture. Bobby Sharma on the Recent Esports Survey
"Show is focusing on a study published in mid November, which is an annual look at the E Sports industry the studies conducted by Foley & lardner law firm and specifically fully Sports Entertainment Group where Bobby is a special advisor home study was also conducted a partnership with the Esports Observer. This is the third year the study would you introduce hundreds of Executives around Esports? I will go through all the findings here at all, like the full report below the show, but some of them That's that were of Interest Who did that 73% of survey respondents expect to see increased investment in Esports a Zappa demek wide Stewart head over Q4 2020 and q1 20-21 the study also touched on gambling house additional Sports could use Esports and better ways and a lot more interesting Insight from leading Executives across the US and Europe. Primarily Bobby took the different findings in the report was there would start that really stood out to you something that surprised you. What's what's all the data was done collected. I don't think anything surprised me. I think I mean this is a really interesting survey that fully laden has been conducting now for three years and it gets even more interesting with each passing year to see the evolution of the industry at least a perception of the the evolution of the industry in real time. But last year, you know looking at Trends is always really interesting last year. I think we saw a more mature birth. Level of investment come in in the sense that you had more private Equity Capital than Venture Capital than in the past which makes sense given that the sports industry is young but quickly maturing and there there seemed to be a lot more long-term Value Place for investors the pandemic of course thrown a wrench into everything and not you know to answer your question or directly. I'm not surprised that the findings of this survey basically are mixed in that of course, like all sports media and entertainment properties Esports has taken a hit to some extent because of the massive disruption because of covid-19 and depend emack that that's that's basically disrupted, you know, any any events or oriented business and whereas a lot of people understand these boards to live largely online the reality is that you log Culture lives, you know very much in person at large Gatherings and Arenas and stadiums and and in smaller scale type of event so that that's had a direct impact to the revenue but I say mixed because throughout this pandemic there has been certainly a perception that Esports has thrived and it's definitely true to a certain extent. It's been terrific for the Publishers because more people are playing video games more people have more time in the day because they're not competing or you know are at home where a lot of these things are consumed and participated in and no part of our survey questions and and the narrative that you mentioned you're linking that we put together from the results speaks to to those Trends where we've had some of the media companies reporting, you know web traffic up wage. 75% in terms of gaming you've had certain situations where you've had, uh, you know gambling become, you know, what will I'm sure we'll speak to that later become an actual regulated phenomenon for Esports that wasn't in the past because of in part because of the absence complete absence in the second quarter of this year of any traditional Sports at all to bet on so it's it's been I'd say the good is outweighed the bad and I think that's that's where the the survey Nets out for Esports and that it's it's taken a hit but a minor and it's it's poised for more growth going forward relative to traditional Sports, which is I think what makes these Sports so amazing is that it has such a big and under monetized and young and negatively digital Highly Educated High disposable income audience that everybody wants to to to connect with so long. So yeah, I think both the for the good and the bad good outweighing the bad the results are not too surprising and nothing really surprising to me. I should say

Regal Cinemas owner confirms it will close all of its movie theaters again
"Another. Ah, casualty of the virus. Is regal Entertainment Group Regal's Movie Theater. It's the second largest movie chain in the U. S. More than 500 locations. And they're they're shutting down nationwide. They'd re opened in August. But they say they can't get any business because they pulled all the quote unquote blockbusters, which probably aren't really that blockbusters. On and in states such as California and New York. Theater owners, large and small, have expressed bewilderment as authorities have allowed some indoor establishment such as restaurants, bowling alleys and churches the open with capacity restrictions while requiring theaters to keep their doors closed, and the guy who runs Regal. So get a Muecke grinding er kind of a weird name has been on Fox today. Here's what he said. In the in the cinema. Everyone is seated and looks in the same direction in the restaurant. You take off your mask and you sit One in front of the other. It simply doesn't make sense. Well, yes, it doesn't make sense. But What about the shutdowns does make sets Booky, including the governor of New York, who's keeping you shut down. Using 14 year old pictures of aesthetic Jewish funerals in upstate New York and claiming it happened just recently. A couple of weeks ago. That's too bad. The Regal was one of those theaters. It was my preferred theater. But they really kept up their properties. They claimed They kept it nice looking, and they were like one of the first movie theaters to put in the lounge seating instead of stadium seats that usually sat in right. It was very nice could recline your seats. I'm sorry to see anybody going out of business. You know, 500 theaters. I mean, that's that's a lot of people and I I don't know that they'll ever reopened. I don't think they know if they'll ever reopened either.
The Murder of Racing Legend Mickey Thompson
"Six weeks before the events of March Sixteenth Mickey Son Danny got a weird phone call from his Dad Mickey told him to be very careful and to make sure his wife Valorea and newborn son Travis were safe. He wouldn't provide any more details fast forward to March, and once again Danny's phone rang this time. It wasn't his dad it was one of his employees. He wouldn't say anything other than that Danny needed to drive to his dad's house in bradberry ASEP Danny got in his car and started driving you turn on the radio. There's a voice announcing some sort of celebrity murder, typical talk radio fodder but then Danny heard the word bradberry and his blood went cold as he pulled up to his dad's house at fifty three woodland drive. His father's body surrounded by cops was lying prone on the concrete bloody and still. As, more family and friends learned of Mickey Intruders Murder One name was on everyone's lips. Mike Goodwin like I get that. That's a tough phone call to make. But I feel like the employees Kinda copped out a little bit whereas like, Hey, you should just go your dad's house like why what's wrong? I think maybe Disco Check Out Your Dad tells what's what's The anticipation of hearing bad news or the anticipation of senior DAD's dead body I. Think like paired with the radio and then pulling up in seeing police all around like having a piece of together to me. Seems, pretty rough I think that's I agree like the anticipation is much worse I I need to know like goes wrong. Just tell me I don't. I don't care like. Then you know and you can start dealing with versus like well is I mean it looks like it is but like hopefully, it's not like you still have that hopefully it's not hopefully it's not hopefully it's not and then you kind of have to like live the news, a number of times that way and also like if you don't know what's going on like you could think that your parents are still alive and so you're right. Maybe you're rushing and speeding on the highway, which is also like not great as well. Like if you know that there's like nothing you can do you're not gonNA put yourself in danger getting there. Yet. I can see how an employee would be like. I can't be the one to tell him but I. Yeah. I mean I'm sure that's what it was like. I don't know if it's my place but. It's sort of is if you're the one calling him, I would I would rather I would like preface of like. You need to go to your parents house like. There's been a murder is something. Are they like, do they kind of like? They kind of do. The wants today there. They mostly do on or street courses. Where they have the ramps and stuff like that. I mean you'll see him if you go to the Long Beach Grand Prix they're racing on the same course with ramp setup but guys. 'em Tagged Stadium tour was like they would go to places like the l a coliseum or these other big stadiums setup courses that are almost like dirt dirt bike or supercross courses rather, which will also mentioned later in the episode and race trucks inside of a professionals pro sports stadium. So pretty amazing although Mickey already had a successful performance parts company, he loved throwing himself into projects tinkering with. Other. Projects like hydro barriers which are now ubiquitous traffic barriers that can be transported and filled with water to be used on race tracks and highways. Hey, you know I'm thinking about putting water in a barrel. What do you think about that? It'll never work. I've been tinkering. Barrels a lot of water. Yeah. Disney Earnings Beat Expectations Due to Parks' Strength
"Begin with better than expected earnings from Disney theme parks once again a highlight. And oh, yeah. Disney. Ceo Bob Iger says that adventures in game will be streaming exclusively on Disney. Plus starting December first Disney plus launching in November. So nice way to kick things off. Yeah. I reckon if I do see vendors and game. That's how I'll see it. But I probably won't see it just because I'm not really L into that universe. I guess related to begin with. But with that said, I mean these injure emails to. There's more HDTV going on and asks include network than the Disney plus at this point, my daughters are a little bit older. Now, as I don't know the Disney holds the same status. But I mean, yeah, you look at the quarter itself it was like the Goldilocks quarter. I mean, there was nothing too terribly. Great nothing, really bad. It was kind of just right down the middle. And I think that's what we were all hoping for me when you when you digest this big acquisition like they're doing you really just want to avoid any major faux pas and they've done that. I think when you look at the major money makers for the company continues to be the media division in the parks division. They saw some some decent operating leverage in parts with sales up there. Five percent but operating come up fifteen percent. So they're doing a good job capitalizing on traffic there. But I think the real stories I mean, avengers, obviously being one of the big headlines in you've touched on that. I think it's more standing when you actually look at the rollout of the films that are coming for the rest of do thousand nineteen. I mean. It would take the entire show to go through the merits of that wind up. But then we also saw the films that they have planned out for. I think something like the next five years in it just borders, the absurd I mean, it's it's hard to believe that anybody will actually be able to get out there and compete with Disney when it comes to this now because they have so much I p in so many films that they're going to roll out. And then of course, the over the top opportunities with ESPN, plus Disney, plus Hulu ESPN plus now has two million plus subs who has I think twenty five million, plus they're forecasting Disney plus to have anywhere between sixty and ninety million by two thousand and twenty four. So they're starting to make the required investments in that product. And I think that consumers will be pleasantly surprised because that's where all of that. Great content is going. I don't know if you saw there was a little headline here earlier that net. Flicks bought some little child's content provider in nothing. Anyone has ever heard of the bottom line is that it was another effort for Netflix to try to develop their own IP? And I think that we're gonna we're gonna see that's very difficult thing to do. So while you know, I hate that term net flicks killer. I mean, I think we're also going to see Netflix facing a lot of challenges in trying to develop their own universe of I p whereas Disney already has that. I think it's so interesting that as analysts we tend to be so bullish on a company like Disney because their intellectual property and their universe of characters and optionality even is so strong yet. We're both so unaware of the avengers is in vendors in game. Is that is that the last one is that why it's doing so? Well, because there's there's gonna be no more vendors after this. I have a hard time believing that they'll just cut the thing off the last of this series. But you've got so many marvel character, right? I mean, that's just it. It's it's the vendors the stretch of movies. I think was something like twenty one movies in all here that just shelled box office receipts in the in in this one was the culmination. I think of a story that was being told, and it's worth noting that when we talk about Disney, plus we're not just talking about movies and legacy content. We're talking about. The potential to take all of these characters and spin them off into their own shows. So well, if Disney plus has a few stranger things or one hundred stays. One. Yes, I know Jason Dodd love stranger things, but you think about the importance of stranger things for net flicks and Disney plus Kennett crank out a few of those e e in their sleep. And I mean that's going to be the difference. Here is that they're going to be able to do this without even really giving it much thought because they already have the property, and you know, Chris hill made a very good point the other day, we were talking back and forth on slack. It's one thing for a company to have that IP. But it's another thing for that company's media division of films to be able to attract such quality directors. And producers in the matter in Disney does that obviously seemingly constantly mean every everything they put out for the most part seems to do really well because they attract a lot of talent on the directing side of the producing side in. I think you'd look at your companies like Netflix that are starting to do that as well. But costs a lot of money to do that in in. We're seeing we're seeing the difference to there in the two businesses. Well, and researching this story. I want to take a trip in the fool way back machine. Zimmer twenty-seventh nine thousand nine hundred ninety six I found this story online. This new story marvel entertainment group publisher of marvel comics today filed for chapter eleven bankruptcy protection in New York. Spotify Stock Drops As Promotions Hurt Average Revenue Per User
"More earning story before he gets the stocks on our radar and that's Spotify. Which surprised Wall Street by reporting a profit in the third quarter? The stock was still down this week though run. Yeah. Because they don't really make money. The only reason they were profitable because of their investment in tencent music entertainment groups that they got to kind of goose up the value of that which led to a paper profit, but they're not profitable because of what they actually do. In fact, they reported net losses every year since they launched in two thousand eight so you know, what what do you do with that? At some point. They've got to make money listeners will recall they went public back in April at in in a new way. Really they went kind of a direct listing approach rather than using underwriters which people thought maybe this is kind of the the new wave of going public. I don't think necessarily we've seen that yet. But this was a way for investors in the company to get liquidity. And as a result now, it's a public company, but you know, they they've got good subscriber growth, but they did have to kind of pare back on guidance with respect to that they pared back on guidance with respect to gross margins. They just can't seem to flow money to the bottom line. They have nearly two. Hundred million monthly every active users. What is wrong with this business that they can't make money because they have a pretty compelling free offering action. Spotify, but I'd never pay for inciting with Spotify. You know? We learn some lessons going into that. IPO in snap is another good example of of learning some lessons going into that IPO paid attention to Facebook and Twitter. And I think we learned a lot from that kind of get an idea of what might happen with snap and with Spotify. We could look back to Pandora at least get some idea as to the economics of that business. And in what they would have to do to make any really meaningful money over the long haul in the economics of the music business or just really bad in. So I mean, they could probably have user base of three hundred million, but I'm not necessarily sure that makes for such an attractive investment. And it just goes to show that there are cases where it can be a great product or service for consumers that doesn't necessarily translate. It's Wayne to good investment for investors.

"I've held off covering the recent bloodbath in tech stocks this week because I mean, you could be listening to the show tomorrow or next week. So it's hard for me to be definitive about the machinations of the stock market from day to day, but there has been a bloodbath and tech stocks this week by the time you hear this, they could evolve roared back to health, but the turmoil in the market has claimed one high profile tech victim. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that tencent music. Gloom articles, on a given Friday now. Different than they were other eras I think that we're seeing increased concern. Tom and it's appropriate in terms of where the United States in the world are heading in terms of Ideo political. Alliances and, also in terms of the trade picture we have taken for granted since the nineteen fifties at the United States would Dominate in. So many different areas we. Were by far the. Strongest economy the other, economies of Europe in Japan had been devastated by. The second World War and now we have real competition on the economic front. Concerns when I take a look at the, equity market per se I always start with valuation the valuation is okay if If inflation and interest rates do what we think, and most importantly earnings continue to pop as they seem to be doing and real GDP seemed so strong this quarter obviously equity investors are going to.
