"Towards your first upgraded post and indeed dot com slash credit terms and conditions Apply. I'm John Morrissey on cable news radio live everywhere on the I. Heart radio at all right. Colorado's coronavirus numbers are continuing to decline. Jefferson County will go to level Blue on the cove it dial tomorrow. And so how's the slush at your house? The Denver cyclone kicked into high gear in most of the metro area had 12 to 16. Inches of snow. By the way, we're Cupid. I live in Douglas County. Not so much. Thank goodness. It is melting down, though. Those stories and more coming up before clock with Cathy Walker on K away news radio. This is big Alan Jo Jo. Welcome back. It's big Gala. Judge Owen, Can we news ready? Wait, 50 A m and 94 1 and famine everywhere on the free I heart radio app a big thank you again to Mike Sando from the athletic On the Russell Wilson story and listen. I mean, Russell Wilson to me is one of those quarterbacks who, when he came into the league, he was a little bit smaller. Then you're a typical Quarterback. He was a guy that originally was drafted by the Colorado Rockies to play baseball out of the University of Wisconsin came into the league and as he pointed out 40 days Into being with the Seahawks franchise. He was their QB one and he is never ever looked back. And everybody remember that Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos? Yeah, just checking. Here's Here's what I'll say OK? His Here's what I'll say. When you were a god like Russell Wilson and we just had on Mike Sando. He didn't understand what I was saying. When you're Russell Wilson and you played in this league as long as he has played in his league. You want certain things to happen the way that you want them to, because you see the game differently now than the coach and the certainly the coach is The guy that is ultimately responsible for wins and losses on the team. But when you get to a certain age in this in this business And you get a certain experience at that position. You know what you like. And you want people that cater to what you like. And that could be good. We just saw Tom Brady leave the New England Patriots. Okay after the illustrious career, Okay? And go down to Tampa, where he got to do what he wanted to do. Ended up winning the Super Bowl. I was watching a game. Many of you Bronco fans will remember this. I was watching my first NFL game. Okay? That was in September of 1991 against never bronchus against the Denver Broncos. Guess what. One of the statements were that was made in the game. It's concern John Elway was about The statement was John Elway wants to call his own place. So guess what? John Elway got a chance to do. He called his own place. He even called for the substitution in that game. Yes. You remember him talking about they actually was able to say, Hey, this, Let's change up the he's John Elway. He's had a lot of success in this business. He went to the head coach. Hey, look, I wanna call more of the game. Yes. What the coach did. Hey, John, Go in. You get the call More of the game. You get to call the entire game. If you get stuck. I'm quite sure you could lean on him for ideas about plays. But he was allowed to do that. Yes. What? Nothing has changed in this league. And since that time Quarterbacks have been calling their own place in this league for a long time, and they know what they want. They know what they like. And they want coaches who trust them to do it The right way. And Pete Carroll, I'm guaranteeing you is not in that same Vain. He is not that kind of guy. He wants to. He wants to quarterback to do what? Uh, you know, the game plan calls for Russell Wilson is so much more than just an average quarterback. He is a playmaker for that team. He's been a playmaker for that team, and if he doesn't understand what he has, I would love to give up three first round draft picks to go get Russell Wilson I would love to give that up. Now. He's not 25 year old to Shawn Watson. But I could guarantee you one thing we're winning here. I'm gonna win here. And you know what? Let him do what he wants to do. And we'll probably win more. And the only way that he comes here is because you are willing to let him do more. You wanted to let him cook. You gotta have you. It's what all quarters All the great quarterbacks want the exact same thing more? Yeah, And they also want the offense.

"I mean, think Rex Grossman think about the civil Scrubs and lets it Rex was a full fledged scrub. But some of the scrubs the Bears have had at quarterback man. So that would be easy to justify parting with all that would be required to get Russell Wilson if on the Bears if I'm Las Vegas I would do it as well. Because I think the Derek Carr is certainly good enough and interesting enough to Seattle, where it would offset some of whatever assuming that. You know, I'm assuming that you would shit their record a trade. And you get Russell Wilson and obviously, Vegas would have to give up all their stuff. But Derek Carr is good enough and still young enough. Where you can probably lower the package. And it wouldn't crush you forever. But those of the four teams and now let me give you the team That should really make the move to get Russell Wilson. And that's the Pats. It's Bill Belichick and that is the New England Patriots. It's not Dallas, you got back. It's not New Orleans. You got Jamis could be Vegas could be the bear should be the Bears. But you know, in totality. It should be the bats. Because the paths have never been. It's how many, you know their teams have always been built. Say they've never had first round picks that that popped obviously, but like, you know, you look around their roster at their championship Apex. And their most important marquee players were not guys they took with the ninth overall pick because it never picked there. Little old Top five, so they have proven that they can structure their team and win championships by building around a great quarterback and by coaching them up. So trusting the draft AC yuman and releasing those assets, those those 1st and 2nd round assets it would take to get Russ. I've got inherent belief in Bella check. And the coordinators in the live loss. Um, I get it to coach up, you know, middle round picks. Makes him sad. The free agent additions. And elevate tremendously. With Russell Wilson. See that to me makes the most sense. That to me, makes the most sense. Now. I mean, listen, if there's somehow you are able to pry him away from The Seattle Seahawks for you no fewer than three first round picks. Then everybody should enter the conversation at this point. But I don't think you'll be able to do that. And I think you need to operate with restraint and conviction and what with what you already have. And despite Dallas, tripping over themselves every year, not getting this contract done with deck. You know they have conviction and back despite the fact that the absence of a contract screams the exact opposite. They want. Dac Dac wants them. It's gonna get done. No, I believe deep down that Sean Payton's got conviction and James Winston, I really do. Deal now, if he somehow get rust for 70 cents on the dollar, you part with that conviction, but that's not gonna happen. So Even the Bears are moving mountains to make this happen if I'm the Pats moving mountains to make this happen. We'll see. But it's gonna mean and then he throws the shore. Watson's tweet that I read before about loyalty. I mean, we had We are just entering the crazy portion. Like Mathies Stafford was cute and nice, you know, and let me let me take that back. Jared Goff was the cute and nice, but that was the appetizer. You know Stafford was, you know nice. I don't know a nice, nice side of potatoes, something good, something that's gonna fill you up something that you would devour, but nothing. That's 50 or 60 bucks on the menu That hasn't come yet. That's going to come. And it's gonna be amazing what it does because it's coming before the draft..

"Especially considering the fact that John Lynch came out for the 40 Niners, he said. Jimmy G's are God moving forward. That bubble's shrinking as far as opportunities for the New England Patriots to get a guy to be unless you're trying to go from Marcus Mario to but you can't get that Cam is your best option. I don't think Bill Bell check's gonna let him go. I think you mentioned learning the system and doing those sort of things. Yeah, he That's fine in New England, but you pick up in Washington. The same system that you ran and Carolina, the offensive coordinator, and Carolina originally was, nor of Turner, who did step down. His son took over who's now on the offensive coordinator in Washington that they brought over from Carolina. So You pick up the same system. You're not gonna It's like riding a bicycle for him. If you have if you have one, If you have a one year deal, you are Cam New and answer this question for me. You are cam doing You have a one year deal that could make or break you. Do you take that opportunity in New England? The system that you just learned after last year, or do you go back to the system that you played X amount of years ago with Robert Baer in Washington football team I'm going with Ron Revere in Washington football team Washington football team is built. Not built. I watched this football team. Roster, especially on the defensive side of ball is better then New England's They are better football team right now. Then the New England Patriots. I would certainly go back to to Washington, where Ron Revere in a heartbeat. I wouldn't even think twice about it. If I'm Cam Newton. Let's get a little sorry. Let's get a little Twitter reaction. Then we'll get right back to the phone lines on this question again. If you're just joining us this morning, which quarterback is facing a make or break season in 2021 question, that sort of in the eye of the beholder, But you tell us what make her break is based on the expectations in the team. And the quarterback you today? Si, ESPN 887293776, or, like all these fellas on Twitter Cage Easy on Twitter. Zack Baker Mayfield. Time to see of last season wasn't a fluke. Sebastian noting that we didn't just ask for one rolls out. Cam Newton. Daniel Jones. Kirk Cousins drew lot. Jimmy G. Jamis Winston Teddy Bridgewater in Carson Wentz, right? You just said that. The legally accept. Well, the whole you know Tom Brady share Rogers, chef Dad always cooking up something good for us. He's a frequent contributor to the program. Stafford is facing a make or break season because everyone blames Detroit for his shortcomings. And Sanford says the guy that essentially Stafford was traded for Jared Goff in what may be his final year as a starter. That's according to Sanford Jared Goff soon. What do we? What do we mean by make or break like, you're not gonna be the quarterback after this year if you don't perform to high level description This is a Waterloo moment. Right? This is your Waterloo. This is a absolute what kind of Waterloo mean? I don't know what that's a That's a cliche of like somebody we show you from SportsCenter. Sorry. This season is pivotal to this guy's career, Depending on where you stand in your career understanding guys like Donald or closer to the beginning, while guys like staff for a closer to the ends. Once again, it's more what you interpreted to be. But this is a pivotal moment. This upcoming season is pivotal for this quarterback. And I think for this Quarterback. It could be done in Texas. You're on ESPN radio who you got. They say, guys? Nothing is it wouldn't listen. You listen, was that Prescott because he's holding out for that? Is that fourth year for when the salary cap may go back up? What he's feeling to realize is we're some of the pandemic status not being sold out so the South camp may not go up as much as it is. So he killed it tag again. He's more likely to get hurt because he don't know what he's on on that leg. And I do have a issue with Marcus Spears and Max and it was all the Cowboys fault. Everybody knows you guys will report it that it wasn't about the money was the years So how you fix it is give him a four year 50 Year player option just in case the cap doesn't go up. You can come back. And then he afraid to see then. Hey, is it all say Don They're going to sign him when that is, I don't know, but he's not going anywhere. He's not going anywhere. It is good to talk. Because you need content. But let's keep it 100 man. He ain't going nowhere. They're going to sign him. Nobody allows their franchise quarterbacks to walk out of the building. They just don't Do it unless you Houston and you completely Alienated. A guy is screwed it up. Otherwise, no one just allows franchise dudes to walk out. You don't hard it is to get a franchise quarterback. So hard. It's not that easy. They're not just in the seven Elevens where you could walk in and dial one up. Hey, give me that one off the back shelf. No. No. The question is, Does the Shawn Watson acquiesce? Does he take You know, one more year in a deal If the Cowboys win a space that out do for cap reasons. I think that's the question whether he's able to do that or not cake. Look when Dad I understand what you're saying about Dac. There's no question about it. And when you.

"I had no idea was on the outside because I'm look, you know, I just saw what this guy and I looked to see if it was circling back. You know, I finally realized that maybe I was outside that was watching Greenies reaction. Heywood. No reaction to your reaction. If I saw you do that, And just like suddenly do this. Everything alright? Key, really just focused in locked in. That's what you guys called the big show Zubin. That's right. That's why we're watching it. If you're watching here on television this morning, you could find it on social media. Just putting Keyshawn go to Twitter. Feed it. Z Life lesson. Put his hands on his chest like a lone man. You don't understand. No, J you y'all think it's funny, But when something like that stories, you it's like If you are Taking out your trash and all of a sudden at night. Something just appears out of nowhere. You're gonna jump for sure. And that's kind of weird for me. I'm like, Oh, gosh, A bird was in the studio. You go jump, though. That's just part of it, and I could help. Let the stop start laughing. He couldn't stop because everybody the studios saw the same thing I saw except they're not on camera and they're sitting over there laughing at me. It's on get up, and he almost had to get up and get out of there is like unbelievable keeps on J bills even coming to you live from the seaport district appear 17 brought to you by chase. We're asking this morning which quarterback is facing a make or break season in 2021? You guys have filled up the cage, a Twitter feed. And the phone lines as well. Which Q B is facing a make or break season in 2021. Jimmy G. According to John Lynch is gonna be back if he's healthy is Jay said, That's a huge if Stafford golf to Shawn wherever he lands, you name it. Let's land on Riley in South Carolina. You're on ESPN radio. What do you got? Was going on friendly. What's happening? What a baby man Hey, let's hit man. I'll drive it down the road yesterday I heard my voice on the little commercial man. Your brother tent there, brother Hide down here, man. Well, we tried. We tried to promote and do the right things for the right people that make the right sense. And certainly, Yeah, I'm talking about. So there you go. Appreciate it felt like the country cousin from the cut from down, bottom, man I appreciate you broke. Listen, man, um Listen to this. You all the time man yesterday, Raghu, So I kind of got under my skin a little bit. I like Marcus Spears. I wanna have a beer with him. But you know, and he's talking about damn it as a make or break season for Cam, But I think Cam, he's the end up in Washington. I think Ron Rivera in that old that Brown Where he was a Carolina do is put them out there after he did what I heard he showed everybody trying to save the job cam expense. So drop the man in Washington. Give him a chance to redeem himself and let him play. I think it was a mistake for us to let him go on Carolina this year. Look, we're right back where we would have been at Via please like how he played into England without capital. You dig what I'm saying. I feel you playing Teddy. We take Teddy all his money to be right back when we had right now we're just that can play that one year. So that's why I might be hurt. He was out of there. That's why wrong was under there. I don't know why we brought money running back to begin with. But you let can play in Washington as a make or break season for can Well, what I was saying is Marty Hurney certainly is. Did a pretty good job of his 10 year, both times? Yeah, with the Carolina Panthers the first time around in the second time around Cam Newton economy of war, his welcome out. For the most part, I think As a large and fan base, especially when they start to set a narrative of you as a whole. J is injury prone, even though he only missed it entire season. Prior to that, it was an entire season. It was a couple games. But when the narrative has said that your injury problem, you're missing a lot of time people, you know, run to it, because that's all they know in a year now, as far as him going back to Washington, I think it's the opportunity there for him. Uh, you know, let's see what they think that the free agent market is, is there. Um, you know what type of money is he looking for? Do I think he could still be a very productive quarterback? In the league with the pieces around him. Absolutely. You gotta everybody gotta have everything aligned around them. The same things that you say about other quarterbacks that don't have pieces around them Their struggle. It's the same thing for Cam Newton. If Cam Newton was With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he played like he played for the New England Patriots. Then I would be quick to say he needs a retire. But I also understand J. What New England was and what it had. That's what's gonna say Key is the Washington football team of Feasible, feasible option? Yes, but if your camp look, I just took a year to learn. This new playbook has took a year to be with. No, my new O. C. I took a year to be a bill bill check. I feel like I know this system and they want me back. Does that ultimately giving my best chance to succeed instead of trying to come in and relearn everything all over again?.

"Help navigate the home loan process. Rockets got him. Thanks so much for being with us. Everybody happy to be here on a fine Thursday morning. Got a good show lined up for you. Thanks for being with us going into this hour here aboard the mothership. Coming up in 20 minutes. We've got your best audio of the day and some good ones. I promise you and coming up in 40 minutes. We have the specific examples of what Alex Smith was upset with Washington. That's why he took aim at them that GQ article This week. We'll talk about that specifically coming up in about 40 minutes from now. John Lynch. Sounds like he wants Jimmy G back. Jimmy G has been so injury prone over the course of his career. Remember back in 2016 with the New England Patriots? He's the starter to begin the season. Tom Brady suspended to Flake Gate four games. Garoppolo looks pretty good to start off his career as a starter and then sprains his shoulder. Remember that? That's why Jacoby Brissette came in. Sprained shoulder right off the bat. Couple of years later. It comes off the end of that rousing 2017 campaign in San Francisco, where he wins. Those five starts with the Niners after being traded, he enters 2018. Coming off. Tourney, A CL tears his A C L that can't even build that Momenta Min 2018. 2019 stays healthy whole season they get to a Super Bowl. But last year High ankle sprain early and then re aggravated late. So this is a guy that in only five years really four seasons Sprained shoulder. Toward a CL multiple high ankle sprains. Look, it's hard for me to put much trust in Jimmy J to be the future quarterback under center for the Niners. If he can't stay healthy, that is the most important piece of the puzzle for a QB. But I think when John Lynch says he wants him back, and he's confident and Garoppolo it's because there's not better options out there. Why? Well, the more that you sift through The options on the open market. More. You realize there's not a lot of movement happening right now. We knew Carson Wentz was gonna leave Philadelphia. But he only wanted to go to one place. The Colts, So they got their guy. Matthew Stafford was going to be on the open market. Only one team to get Matthew Stafford and who he's going to replace is not a solution for anybody else. Stafford goes to L. A. Nobody's fighting over. Jared got because of his contract. But essentially, the Rams had thrown an extra one just to absorb allow their lines to absorb that money. Which is why, when we hear the rumblings out of Boston this week that perhaps the Patriots and Cam Newton are open to a reunion. It's likely because Man you look around. There's not a lot of other single women at this party. Which brings us now. Cam. And another would be free agents. In Las Vegas. They got Derek Carr and they had side Marcus marry OTA as a backup. Looks like they're okay with car. They want to roll with car again and so marry Oh, two becomes expendable. Barrio to his final last year in some spot duty. And so they've been trying to trade him. However. No takers. This is weird, right? Marcus Mario to backup quarterback. We've seen him as a starter before he looked okay last year in spot duty. What could be the problem? He's only 27 years old. Why wouldn't teams everybody seems to be in need of a quarterback? Why would they trade for Marcus? Marry Oto? Why'd the trade market dry up from Marcus? Reason. The Mona M O N E Y D a The bit is Marriott is base salaries. $10 million coming up this season, not a big deal. If he's your starting quarterback, you can't you spend $2010 million that's fine. However. Incentives as a starter. Can add another 12 million bucks on top of that. That's what the contract that he signed with the Raiders says. So teams are looking at a potential $22 million markets, marry OTA and gone now. They'd spent $22 million for a guaranteed starter. But Mario it is far from a guarantee. So they're not interested, which means it's likely the Raiders. We're just gonna have to chop him. He's going to be a free agent. So If that's your options of the free agent market this offseason, Marcus Mario to Cam Newton. Who you taking. The answer. Absolutely Marcus marry OTA. No questions asked. I know that Marcus marry OTA hasn't risen to the heights of Cam Newton. I realized Mario to never led his team to a Super Bowl never went 15 and one never won the n f L and v P. I realized Marcus Mario to is not had the Pro Bowl caliber seasons, The Cam Newton has had At this point of their careers. I'd much rather roll the dice with the markets Marry OTA. Which then makes the Patriots Maura interesting. If the Patriots have their choice of the two cam and Marcus Mariotti? Yes, they had Cam with them last year, but marry Oh, does notice a great teammate Marriott is known as a very coachable guy. Barrio to For all of his warts as a football player between the lines. He's always known is a great guy in the locker room around the facility. Wonderful, dude. Wouldn't have to worry about that. Talk about a Patriot way type guy. You could only imagine Marcus marry Yoda. No, we go. Come in Whatever need me to do, Coach just want to win here. Mary Otis, five years younger than Cam Newton. Barrio doesn't have all the all the wear and tear on his body like camp. Barrio to playing for the Patriots last year. My guests throws more than seven touchdowns and 1000 yards or.

Will Cam Newton return to Patriots?

"Now. We're having a conversation about Cam Newton. It's February. Yes. But it's been in the media It's been reported via reporters. Former players former teammates active teammates is recently is this past season. Folks have said that you know, they wouldn't mind if Cam Newton returned to the Patriots. Devin McCourty said that trade Turner's former teammate blocker for the Carolina Panthers says he has a lot left in the tank. It's not out of the realm of possibility for him to return. Obviously, the New England Patriots, a woman can have some options if they should try and pursue a trade. I don't know. If it is they have Ah, great selection of people to choose from when it comes down to drafting. But at number 15. We'll see who might be available. Stood him obviously, isn't the answer. I'm looking at one of my tweets right now, Cleveland at Heart says, and you could sweep me too. At J. R Sport brief, he says. I think Cam could end up back in New England, but I'm certainly checking in on a few guys first. Wants in Garoppolo a. Maybe even checking in on guys like Wentz and Winston. Um, you know about that. Jimmy Garoppolo. Damn it. We got to see if he's healthy. It's been reported that the 40 Niners are okay with bringing him back. If they don't get their hands on Watson Jamis Winston. I think he'd be best sir, sticking to where he's at where he's had one year to sit behind Drew Brees and a system I think that would be his best option. I saw? Yeah. Is Cam Newton a number one option? I don't believe so. But I think on a second go around a specially if the Patriots can return or actually bring in some weapons. I think the results might be different. Around his Cam Newton the same player. No, I don't think so. At the same time, I think it was more so with what about what the Patriots had or did not have last year. And the circumstances of him being added to the team than it was about Cam just being cooked.

Tom Brady's dominance in Super Bowl LV further solidifies historic career

"Once again. Down in Tampa Bay. Where yes, the Buccaneers were able to host Super Bowl 55 31. The nine was the final Tom Brady and crew gets it done once again. You found the final hour of the dress show here on CBS Sports Radio and CBS sports radio dot com. Tom Brady for 1/5 time, a Super Bowl M v P, and it's funny. I was just looking up. The whole, you know, years between titles and are trying to do some digging in on that, and, thankfully, the folks of the four letter network. Have you know Kareem Abdul Jabbar went 17 years between his first and last N ba titles. Chris Chelios in the world of Hockey. Chelios was a guy 22 years between winning his first and last Stanley Cup. Yeah, There was. Ah, What Babe Ruth 17 years between his first and last world. Syria's same for Jim Palmer in the world of baseball. What's amazing to me, and I just went to look this up on the old Tom Brady stat page there. In 2000 and one Tom Brady led the New England Patriots to a uh while his record was 11 and three. They end up winning the Super Bowl that year. Tom Brady was a Super Bowl M v P for the first time. He was 24 years old in 2001. And in 2000 and 2043 year old Tom Brady is a Super Bowl M v P again. That is one of the most amazing record. I don't even know my call a record, right? I mean, Chef. How would I like qualify? That It's not like a factoid, I guess really is the best way I could say it. Is when you think about At age 24. He wins the title on this Super Bowl M v P and does it again A 43 years old. Some 20 years later. I don't think we're ever going to see anybody here that I mean, look at what's

Houston Texans' new GM Nick Caserio says team has 'zero interest in trading' QB Deshaun Watson

"All the talk of trading the shawn watson trading show. i want to be traded. Matter of fact the weeks ago we had not heard from the houston. Texans we started the show by saying like look i. I don't know how to break it to you. But the us is don't actually have to trade shawn watson. He signed a contract after they hired after they traded new cop-killer that contract paid him. Seventy three million dollars up front in cash which is not just signing bonus for the first year and for the contract but for this coming year and the following year. He's already been paid for those years so money. They can't recoup they're not gonna just go away. We paid you for three years. You played one. You have good. You have a good run. You have a good life. Plus there's a tax bill not a tax bill. There's a dead cap money if he leaves like the whole thing is not great. And what's the best case scenario in the draft. A quarterback to become watson doesn't. Oh yeah i i should mention that if you trade to shawn watson in basically the first year of his new deal fifth what does it say about anybody else contract with texans at once out nick. Caserio is the new general manager of the texans. He came from new england patriots and he had this to say at his press conference about an hour ago. Just want to reiterate our commitment to shawn watson. he's had a great impact on this organization. A great impact on a lot of people great impact on the team and we look forward the opportunity to spend more time with them here this spring once we get started and we have zero interest in trading the player We have a great plan vision for for him and for this team and his role in our team and we look forward to the opportunity to spend more time with them. Here this spring. That was nick caserio. The new gentlemen andrews just like hey look we look forward to spend. Tom is first statement. We have no intention of trading. Do i think he's telling the truth i do. I think it's highly unlikely they trade him now. If somebody says like we'll give you the kitchen sink then sure you gotta consider it. You gotta consider it.

"You can't say they'll maybe you need some Personnel help unless of course he comes to a as a Moment of clarity that he says, you know, what I've been seeing things one way for a while. The game's changing a bit. I'm going to lean on people more than I do more than I have in the past and it's possible he can kind of come to that conclusion on his own now, but that that's what would have to happen for Bill to not be the end-all-be-all decision-maker GM. I think the biggest thing one of my biggest gripe with build a GM is not necessarily a dog. Visit is for some other people, but my biggest gripe with build a GM is a he's been drafting one way for so long at this point because he had Tom Brady. So everybody else around when he goes into a giraffe. He is not I don't think that bill necessarily goes into a draft and looks for that stud Blue Chip difference-making type of player. We're not talking about a guy that's going to come in and fill a room that we're talking about a pro bowl All Pro type of talented transcended type of player. I think for four years. He knew that he had the quarterback he had Brady and all he had to do was kind of just fill the roles and fit that fit his scheme draft players that fit what they want one guy to do particularly in the entire puzzle piece. Now, I think he needs to be you know similar to how I always say, you know, you see the forest for the trees with the scheming and stuff like that. He needs to see the forest through the trees and realize it's not about finding a bunch of different role players and fitting them all together underneath Brady anymore now, they need to go out there alone. And find four or five guys outside of Stephon Gilmore. How has Jake Bailey punting the football? What is this team have you know, who is the blue-chip player on this team? Who is the stud game on offense right now? Who is this stud player on defense right now outside of Gilmore. I guess maybe you can argue that the stud players on offense are on their offensive line, but they need skilled talent and quarterback that are studs. Not not left guards. Right and I love Joe to me, but that's not he's not moving the needle in terms of the wins and losses of the team. So that's what I think is the biggest difference is that he needs to approve or a little bit differently and see okay. We can't just make a whole up team up on jot of a bunch of role players, right? We need to make a you know, start from the beginning and work on our Blue Chip top five down because ultimately if you look across the board across the NFL and you put the ten best players on the Patriots against the ten best players on every other team in the league. I mean, where do the Patriots ranking Ranking, I mean It's gotta be extremely low that's a group of players that they need to work on. I think that they have guys that can fill roles and guys that can do what the Patriots do right outside of the top-tier talent, but they don't have a Brady. They don't have a Gronkowski. They only have one Gilbert that that's what you really need to see him change his draft strategy. Yeah, and and that's the thing is for however many years. It's just been I know a good football player. I see one but right, you know, it could be the the game has evolved..

"A bunch of them out there too and Skip passes and stuff like that bounce passes throwing in two Defenders leverage instead of out away from The Leverage, you know that second throw that he had after the belong Myers completion where the middle of the field Jake opened up like, you know, the The Parting the Red Sea Forum that was an easy pass at any, you know, High School quarterback could have made and then comes back on the next throwing throws right into the Defenders leverage and almost throws an interception. It just I'm reading out Leverage is making leverage base throws is just such a simple part of quarterbacking that you know, any NFL starting quarterbacks should be able to be able to see okay, you know, the defender there is got inside leverage on this throw and throw it in Breaking route against an inside leverage corner, cuz I'm throwing into the Defenders body and into his, you know area to kind of intercept a pass, but I think mainly what you see with both of these khong Max's neither one of them are really the answer but secondly it in terms of kind of just evaluating this this team. If you're going to put any quarterback in there we can talk about all of this we can talk about trade land suck about Zach Wilson we can talk about Justin fields. We can talk about Mac Jones and Kyle Trask and go around Stafford and all the NFL quarterbacks. If they don't improve the roster around the QB to wide receiver and tight end position. I don't care who you put back there. It's not going to matter all that much no doubt, but last week near the end of our post game show. We talked quite a bit about how what they should do with the draft. And you know, I was saying that I would I would just load up on weapons address it again and again and again and again both in free agency and multiple times in the draft. If pits is there when it's your job to Draft take right then go receiver then sign a free-agent receiver and and you were saying well you need the quarterback. So we're in a real chicken and egg sort of spiral here with with with with the situation wage. They need both they have to address both simultaneously the problem is when you make I think you can get weapons and stockpile them because they're available but they're always available in the draft and there's a ton available in free agency, but you pick wrong at the quarterback position. You might be stuck into a long-term contract or a you draft the wrong guy. Definitely, you know, you take a Haskins type person who you're not in love with but it's the best available when you're picking and you've got to develop them for a few years and that can set you back a couple of years, which is why for me I have to think they gotta go for weapons first because you can get them and then maybe it's another stopgap Gear with a quarterback. Maybe you're waiting for a year or two until the day I arrived but the last thing you want to do is rush into a situation where you trade for somebody or give a long-term contract to a person who's a slight upgrade who's still not going to get you where you need to go and that's sort of been my job..

What Is the Patriots' Plan at Tight End?

What Is the Patriots' Plan at Tight End?

"Second question i had foil is regarded. These tight ends that they drafted in the third round as a fan of them. Going after two tight ends. Because i just. I was hoping that it was going to go back to the kind of offense like nam doesn't gronk were your and it. Obviously that isn't happening but it's almost it's almost like a redshirt of the two of them. This year. I think they have one. Catch combines the between the two of them was going into the season with them. So limited on getting offensive snaps. Was that planned or was it more based on their health or was it more based on that this belgian just wasn't seeing what he thought he was gonna see leading up to the draft. Stop yeah i well i think number one you earn and sort of what you see on the practice field. You know ossie was okay to start camp I would see either of them. Blue anybody away. And i know there have been some injury issues but i don't really think that's been much of a factor i mean you know you look at back in two thousand and ten when they had gronkowski and hernandez people kind of forget that hernandez was the one who hit i him he was he was a decent part of the offense from the gecko that year. We're gronk was really more a blocking tight. End do a little bit. By the end of the season he was catching touchdown passes and becoming more of a force and so guys have their own path. And it's all brian what they show how they get the offense how they execute stuff like that from people that i've talked to around the team. It just with devon. Aw siasi good for about two weeks and then tom for every nfl rookie. There comes a point in time when they realized the. Nfl is hard that these guys are good. That the coaches are tough that being a pro and having to wake up every day and do a day after day and sore body and all this stuff like it sets in like it's a profession and some guys look at it like You know. I'm not having a whole lot of fun anymore. This was like when you know when. I went to rutgers and i was playing on the baseball team. You know my second. I could come back from his hand surgery. I had but i really wasn't having that much fun anymore in kind of wanted to be more of a college kid so alice sort of left the game but these guys they realize it's it's a profession in some of them rise. Some of them love it some of them rise in say okay. I like this i can. I can meet the challenge and push through and some guy sort of shrink in from people i've talked to. That's been siasi. Here has not been a lot of mental toughness behind the scenes. I think you can see some of it in his play on the field in terms of just as body language when he's on the field donkey i think he has more of a chance. I think the consensus. And i know. Albert brewers working on something about ballot. Check in his drafting. And i think he's gonna talk about these titans because we've been chit chat and back and forth The past couple of days but about how like everybody says like dalton kimes overdrafted Qian's been almost like a big puppy where he's kind of all over the place and you think he wants to be there. I think he loves football. So i don't really worry about him. It's when he's going to get it. And i think once he gets it and he gets his role and they create more of like a crash jensen type of role for him. I think he's gonna flourish. And i think he's going to be a weapon for this team. Aussie i don't know what kind of future i don't know if he has any future here to tell you the truth and i think the patriots Fell into a trap. And i don't know if this was by design or just bella check being bell check. But what tom we're not idiots they certainly are idiots. We all knew the deal at receiver in tight end and so for belgium to come out of this draft trade out of the first round. Give up like a kenneth murray or whatever you wanted to do there and then take three defensive guys would your first three picks like when there were tight ends. Probably that you had rated higher there that you just passed on and all of a sudden you're scrambling it looked like to get off siasi and dalton keen like. That's problematic and to me. It illustrates sort of the personnel problems that they've had last four five

"I don't know. I don't know what they think but all those options I think next to Meijer. Yeah. There's this if you don't do it this year, I mean because again the opportunity cost is so low, it's you have so many free agents. They can't all be paid and you have a ton of options in that draft to so the people who don't want to pay free agents can use them on draft picks. If you're the Patriots you got to do both. Yeah. I think you gotta go free agency a wide receiver off. I'm saying a long time because you need to see a guy that succeeds doing things in the NFL that you already can tell Will translate into your system. I think with these college guys, the passing offenses wage coverages that they see in college are just so much different from what you see in the pros. You see so little press Matt and the pro in the problem here would be established got the here's the biggest dilemma with the Patriots, you know, you could always look to sign and or draft a guy that fit this offense and in in particular Brady, you know, they make the big play for Adam Humphries, you know, because he would have fit Brady in this office is a type of guy that Brady would like to throw to you don't know who you're tailoring that towards right now. So I mean, I think you have to just look at Talent as objectively as possible without any regard for who's going to be throwing the ball and say this guy is just a football player. He can beat you he can win, you know enough things where he can do anything here I'd wage. Think but you know Bill and the Patriots have their type of guys, you know, and this is going to be the big dilemma. Heading in is it does not work anymore and not only has the game changed as your team change the point that the type of guys that bill looks at and says that's a football player. I know it when I see it. Absolutely. That's the guy is that still the case? I I just think the biggest thing to me check with the wide receivers in the draft is I am not confident at all in their ability to one evaluate the wide receiver position in the development and then to develop that guy once he gets home. I hope whatsoever that they're capable of doing that based off of what they've seen what we've seen. I mean, it's not just the DK Metcalf Deebo Samuel Terry McLaurin AJ Brown Conversation Over nuclear. It's honestly looking at that pic and saying how did they think n'keal Harry was the best receiver out of that group McColl Harmony can throw him in there to judge them? Do you as an evaluator? Look at those options on the board and say Hey, you know, we actually like n'keal Harry more than we like AJ Brown. I just don't see how you can come away with that. So if they struggle so much with kind of projecting that position into their office and into their system and into the NFL game then just get a guy that's already proven that he's a great player at this level and let him be who he is, you know, get Courtney Davis and let Corey Davis run Corey Davis type of routes Crossing routes, you know deep verticals things like that. Let get Allen Robinson and turn him into a contested catch guy here because that's what he's really good at. If you could do those types of things with a pro Talent that's already proven himself in this league and already has things that work for him in this league. It's a much easier transition. And then at that point you can go into the draft. I think I am a little bit more comfortable with them taking a tight end..

I mean this was again to revisit the the Superbowl a manhood robbing experience for for McVeigh who really should have been able to do something different and didn't and it was I mean as as big a coaching mismatch on such a large stage as we age In there in terms of what the Patriots decided to do and how the Rams just could not crack it and so he's learned from that but it's also a different Rams team which means they're going to be defended differently than they were there but then it was fill those gaps..

"They had a couple of times early on in the game where they were a little bit undisciplined in their Rush lanes and just in her room was able to get out of the pocket and make that goes from outside the pocket but as the game sort of War on they had that ability to keep them in the pocket and pressure him with 4 then play a really good coverage on the back end and they held one of the best pass offenses in the league as I wrote a lot this week the 7th ranked passing offense by dvoa coming into this game to three point nine yards per attempt on Sunday that is a terrific game plan. And then execution of the game plan on game day last week same thing great execution of the game plan against Kyler Murray and the Cardinals. So what you're seeing is that the coaches were doing it up. They're coming up with good plans and the defensive players are able to go out there and execute the plan and practice it well Wednesday through Friday and have it carry over into game execution. That's something that the dog I'm getting really hang their hats on we knew they could run the ball offensively. We knew that the Special Teams could be better and it certainly has been over the last couple of weeks. But this maturation of the defense taking that very next step to do, you know, okay, they're pretty good or early on the season. They were awful quite frankly to now being a really strong unit that can actually control the football game regardless of how limited your passing game is. If you can play defense just that now you're not going to show everybody out. But if you can hold people to Seventeen twenty points a game you can play offense like this, you know, you can win games running the football and really having that be the strong point of your of your team offensively. If you get into games where you're their defense is giving up points, then you have to rely on cams arm a little bit more so that sort of that complementary football thing that we've been talking about special teams and defense tributing to make the life easier on the offense and allow them to put to do what they are good at offensive Lee which is run the football and again, when you when you when you have the defense play like this you can get away with exactly what they got along. Today and and again just an unbelievable. If you were to look through just pour through some of the stats of this game. I mean the leading receiver for the Patriots Gunner olszewski with one reception for 38 yards leading receiver the the most receptions for anyone today James White with three for a total of 1 yard..

"To do this game in and game out then they're going to win some games in the back half. Is it going to be tough? I don't know but they're going to win some games. I know but that's again where you start to say every game seems losable because you've seen them Get Smoked by San Francisco an ugly game against Denver. If you're going to lose to these teams, certainly you could lose to some of the opponents left on the remainder of the Slate, but then also your name And say yeah Texans certainly winnable game, right? Sure. Yeah. They're they're they're tough. But you Chargers Rams dolphins dolphins are playing great right now with us again Jets. I mean you finish with those three AFC East games. You're not looking at the schedule saying I mean the Baltimore game was penciled in as a loss and they want it. There's no other game here, you're penciling in an automatic loss each week you enter it and say this is winnable. And so again you start to stack a few of this together things change. What gets a little tricky here is the AFC is insanely top-heavy right now with teams with creatures have to climb a few. Yeah, they got basically Ten teams fighting for the seven spots if you include the Patriots and the Patriots are the only like everybody else six and three really sub five hundred T. It's it's going to be a long uphill battle for them to be able to fight their way back in the play-offs, but I'll take this over what we saw against Denver when we song Against the Niners at least be competitive in last two weeks that we've gotten a decent product. I mean tonight in the first half. I thought that was the best product football product that we probably gotten that was their best half football both sides of the ball. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah again something to build on still a lot of people out here Evan. I want to see if anybody wants to say anything here in the chat or is it just it's all people just talk about what they're going to do at quarterback next year and and and the kill hatred. Yes because I did I have a lot of the family wedding everybody who's better than the Keel. Yeah. They just like to get me going that they said you were viewer better on when you also better receiver than the Keel. We should give the offense of line some credit though. I feel like I haven't given them enough credit their job at run blocking is it's fun to watch. I know it's not necessarily the the sexiest thing to talk about and we all love to see the Deep ball. We all love to see them, you know, throw them. Fall and things like that. Everybody's clamouring to see them throw the ball, but in terms of the run-blocking, this is an absolute clinic for about three-quarters on how to run block crack tosses lead box off our counter. I so I mean it was everything right they just they had the whole repertoire throwing everything add them. They had some extremely thunderous double-team box to Michael. I knew in Jack Mason on the right side Joe Toney and Isaiah Wynn on the left side. Just moving the offensive line played a man's game tonight. Yeah, that's just I mean at the end of the day that's football right down in the trenches and your guys against our guys and tonight the Patriots guys want the first half that offensive line set a tone and that that really that really was it for the game. "I don't know if this is Belichick. I don't know if it's the young players are finally just growing up and we're halfway through the song. Is in and I feel more comfortable playing some of these guys or Belichick stubbornness. He finally looked at it and said I gotta play the young kids and see what we have with it. I'm not sure but they now or he just felt he needed to be more athletic against this Ravens team and our fear is Evan that he goes back to the other. He goes back to the other thing in Houston and you're like, you can't and I joined them as a team captain. He has a role on this team that he can play as a first down linebacker. It landed Roberts his role last year right just play him on first down let him stop the run off but guys like to resolve guys like Duggar and Phillips and the Box they have to play more. They you can't be playing Juwan Bentley 87% of the snaps any more you gotta get some more speed and athleticism on the 5th. So continuously just all year long. I think we've been really hard on the coaching staff and rightfully. So in a lot of ways just not playing the best guys not being creative with the person. Yep. Getting guys on the field that deserved to be on the field and just sort of being stubborn and their old ways of you know, this is our prototypical Mike linebacker. So we have to have this type of linebacker play. They're so foul play Bentley because he's that type of guy. Well now we're have the ability to see that what they've get more athletic when they get younger when they get guys that just want to run and hit and see color. You can definitely play a lot better Thursday fence and what we saw the beginning part of the season. So Kyle Joshua J. All these guys like I keep saying keep playing them. They need to keep playing a moving saying it for weeks now Belichick just now at the podium this Thursday. I mean again, you know, it's hard to it's hard to extract or glean much from what Belichick says but he did say that he thinks they're headed in the right direction here, which is a compliment because it means I like what I see here. And again if we talked about wanting to see a continuation of what we saw tonight Visa V, you know, more of the younger players playing a game And in putting them out there, hopefully this was again for Belichick a game where he thought we're going to try something different and this is going to be a new Direction. So we'll see what happens here. Closing thoughts again Evan before we wrap it up and I'll let you go running and and do all of your post-game still talk a lot about the defense. I guess I'll just wrap it with the offense. I think since really the second half of that Buffalo game slowly been kind of finding themselves offensively and finding the right mix and match of Cameron's regular runs trick plays, you know, not doing all that smoke and mirrors type of stuff all the time but having just enough enough touch of it and obviously discovering Jacoby Myers is actually a Julian Edelman level of Route Runner right now is a huge kind of developing in this offense is path, but if you can.

"Look ahead to Houston. That's what they got next week, right. I got Houston. I got super not impressive today. I don't think like that seems like a pretty winnable game. Well for sure for the Patriots here, you know, and and that's going to be in Houston. So the settings going to be a bit different here. You think the Patriots will change that game plan a tad heading into their home. I'm sure they'll change it cuz they always change it and that's sort of what I don't want them to get too caught up in every single week. We hear this from Bill Belichick. Oh, why isn't Chase winovich playing? Oh the game plan. Why isn't Joshua J playing? Well, he's not really a Mike linebacker. So it didn't fit the situation. So again the game plan, right and in this sort of the situation of the whole thing and when I look at them I say, okay, you know look in a normal year when you have the noise and high towers and and Collins's and all these guys ahead of these younger players on the depth chart and you can afford to kind of bring them along slowly off. Fine, but now this team needs Kyle Duggars. They need Joshua J. They need playmaking and they need athleticism made explosiveness. And that's what all that those are all the things that those guys gave. Kyle Duggar needs to be on a regular on this defense moving forward. He needs to be an every-down player. He should not come off the field unless he's hurt. So let's hope he's not hurt right you should not come off the field because he's really a productive guy that they have at running and chasing and hitting people and bringing physicality while also being able to play in space. They don't have enough guys like that in Dugger is one of the few that they do have one thing to talk about Evan not necessarily an ex has no thing here, but you you know again just letting everybody know Evan is at Gillette Stadium right now Patriots are talking off in their break off rooms. We're going to pop in there shortly.

"Wanted to get back to Jacobi Myers obviously in addition to being the only the only player who caught caught who caught any balls only only receiver caught any balls from Kim that what a freaking dime that was wage play unbelievable Harkens back to the double toss back Amendola development in the playoffs, which is my I think the most exciting game I've ever seen a dog Stadium in person I've ever covered in person and process of possibly the loudest I've ever heard the stadium that game when the Patriots twice came back from 14-point deficit to beat the Ravens, but it just kind of, you know reminiscent of that, you know, just McDaniels unloading the Playbook. And again, we've been critical of McDaniel's for doing it too much when they just not been able to be creative enough took offence to manufacturer yardage, but here it was a perfect call at the right play and my goodness what a throat an absolutely perfect through I mean you tweeted that it might be the best throw the Patriots took all year and I think people wanted to pile on that but it was honestly might have been the best for the Patriots had all year the touch on that path to drop it in the bucket like that and I was actually had a great vantage point of it and he was under pressure to and he threw it and I thought oh, okay. Yeah, he's thrown it at the back of the end zone or something. He's not actually getting dropped it right in the bucket perfectly and then later on in the game. I mean the pro is great. Don't get me wrong. But later on the game. He absolutely toasted Marcus Peters on a little burst Corner route where he's going to run inside like he's running that over router that Crossing pattern and Thursday breaks out on the corner just as when he gets the corner back to commit Peter has got spun around a couple of times by Julian Edelman in the Super Bowl 53 with the same route. So I know the Patriots remember that and they said hey we can beat this guy with this faith we can do it. They motioned him into to a stack alignment which I really like because the Patriots will run that stack and then when I snap it they'll have Jacoby usually runs it over router Julian Edelman and running over out which is a crossing right intermediate Crosser and when they did what they did this time, he showed the corner out and then he ran the burst corner and that definitely threw off the defense..

"Is a different feel than what you were getting with Sony with Sony Michelle, even though you would think that they're kind of sort of in the same mold of running back. You know, I think what we're seeing with Damien Harris is a Next Level understanding of how to manipulate defense Defenders, especially at the second level of the defense. So his big 25-yard run. I put it up on Twitter page. He's leading. It's a fullback lead play and he's following Jakob Johnson through the Gap, right and as he's following Jakob Johnson, he's seeing the linebackers at the second level flowing to the full back right back to fullback lead Play Everybody in the stadium knows it's going right behind the full-back. So the whole defense converges behind the full-back, so he follows right behind the fullback and then at the corner of his eye he kind of sees the second level of the defense come back with him. And so then he cuts it back to the next Gap over and there's just nobody home because everybody's flowing to the outcome Johnson. So just use a little manipulations. I posted another one where they had a fullback Wham play on Thursday But the guy through you got Johnson with him and the Ravens defensive line basically stood everybody up at the line of scrimmage, but they were able to get the edge and and Damien Harris just saw that page really unfold saw the the Ravens had its doubt upfront but then realized that the edge Defender the defensive end had crept inside to try to plug up that Gap and he just bounces it right out to the corner and he have another first down run those little types of plays here and there where it's not necessarily about dancing out of a bunch of tackles and being super Elusive and being Barry Sanders out there. It's mostly about understanding where the goal of the play is to hit and how you can manipulate the defense based off of them knowing where you're going sort of thing. Yeah, and just just hit it and that's and that's why it does happen. Again. We talked about Cam Newton. This was Again part of it as whether but I mean almost like early in the year level conservative play-calling with him home..

"We're gearing up for the highly-anticipated match up between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. I'm Sarah Goodwill here with Evan Lazar. We're finally out Wednesday the big first preparation day for the Patriots on the practice field heading into their matchup against Patrick Mahomes. Let's talk about that offense because obviously they put on a show against the Ravens on Monday Night Football. That's just how special is this offense in our difficult. Will it be for this Patriots defense? Well, it gives me a very 2007 Patriots field with this team maybe a zero three or four page where it just feels inevitable that they're going to get to their game. Now, obviously stylistically, they're very different from those two Patriot teams, but in terms of the fact that they're on a 12-game winning streak right now and it doesn't really feel like it's ending any time soon in terms of their dominance of the league. We haven't really seen this outside of New England all that much. Maybe Green Bay and 2010-11 with with Aaron Rodgers, but for the most part this domination, Is really just been the Patriots over the last couple of decades and nobody else. So I'm not saying that the Chiefs are about the Roloff six Super Bowls. I'm not sure if that's necessarily going to happen, but they're certainly they do what they do and they do it extremely. Well. I went Patrick Mahomes. He has blossomed I think taking it even the step further because now mentally he's dominating the game. So the Baltimore Ravens through a lot of different Blitz packages at him on Monday night and he went 15 4 19 with three touchdowns against their blitz. So it's really you can't Blitz them. You can't play Man coverage against the guys in the back and you can't play zone cuz they're too fast and they're just going to run right through all the bound. So what do you do against this offense is pretty much holed up in man coverage as best as you can and pray that that's pretty much all I can come up with at this point like you just did it's so easy to get home soon as kids City offense, but they're pretty solid defensively as well. What do you yeah from that side of the ball and how the Patriots can kind of explain what it says. Well, I think that's what we've seen out of this dead. Is that you know, a lot of Patriots fans could probably relate to the 2011 Patriots or the 2010 Patriots where they have these great offenses, but the defense wasn't holding up its end of the bargain I think similarly with Kansas City over the last couple of years. The defense really didn't hold up its end of the bargain then last year it finally all came together. Now, they play complimentary football and Steve Spagnola their defensive coordinator is a known Patriots Kryptonite type of guy. He's off see the defensive coordinator the 07 Giants which we don't need to talk about right now, but he's a very men pressure heavy guy, you know, man coverage on the back end with pressure in the front seven. Chris Jones is obviously the big kind of guy in the middle of the defense that everybody's going to circle and you're going to have to have some sort of game plan against him. He is impossible to block Frank Clark on the edge is pretty solid to Tyrann Mathieu. We know what he can do in the secondary. So this need as much improved. I think that's why they went from AFC East Contender afci considers in general. I should say that now Super Bowl champions. It's not necessarily because the Patrick Mahomes I think it was also a lot to do with them. Events taking the next step as well. "The. The! Deadline was Wednesday for the New England patriots in Joe -Tuni- to reach an extension in in happen. So, what does that mean? I'm Sierra goodwill here with Evan Lazar now we know that cap hit is high for Tunisia. But why do you think this decision was ultimately made by both your organization, in Tunisia to not agree to an extension yet while for tuning, this is a great deal for him. You know you walk home with fifteen million bucks for one year of service. You'RE NOT GONNA. Complain too much and really I think what. What happened with the negotiation is for weeks. Now sort of the the word on the street is that the two sides are pretty far apart? There's an sizable gap between where he wants to be where the team feels comfortable, extending him a lot of the reason why some of these franchise tag players are not reaching extensions with their teams Dak Prescott Donnegan Gawk Way -Tuni-. Other guys is because of the pandemic teams are kind of reluctant to hand out. Big money deals not knowing exactly how the salary cap is going to be. Impacted here by Covid Nineteen, so I think the biggest thing for the Patriots and -Tuni- is that they get them around here for one more season they put an offensive line in front of whoever's under center that's going to give them a rock solid unit upfront and revisited with Judy next offseason, but right now they're pretty far apart. We'll the current circumstances definitely could have played into this Kobe nineteen economic impacts of that. Probably on both tuning and the Patriots mind. Do you think these two will come to an extension agreement in the future? Because obviously the patriots value -Tuni- as a player right and they can also still trade -Tuni- on the tag. I should mention that just because this deadline has passed doesn't mean that the trade is off the table but I don't think the trade is necessarily going to happen. Because of those grievance settlements that they got within Tonio. Brown and Aaron Hernandez. They have that wiggle room now on the CAP, so they don't necessarily need to go in there and get a contract extension done to lower his cap number this season because they're tied up. Up against it, so with that wiggle room with that cushion, I think that they will keep him this year and not trade him, but that being said in terms of what the future holds for Joe Tony, he is going to get a top of the market deal. He one of the best pass protectors among any offensive Lineman, tackle-center or guard. He's one of the best the league protecting the passer. That's obviously what the League is all about nowadays so I think that the Patriots are going to have to offer him a very competitive market deal to keep him in new. "The. In cloudy now linked to the New England patriots I'm Sierra goodwill here with Evan Lazar in just like Cam Newton. It seemed like a very far fetched idea that this would ever be possible because we know the Patriots were up against it when it came to the salary cap. Now we have some money. They have some space. Why does this make center white? Could this happen in? County could potentially come to New England now while it's just I offset. Offset this is all just internet rumor in hype at this point nothing from inside the organization at saying that cloudy is a real possibility, but with that being said this is sort of that perfect storm similar to Cam Newton. Where cloudy still on the market, there's clearly some pas about giving him a long term deal I, think both injury and the global pandemic are kind of combining into this perfect storm for cloudy where teams are reluctant to give out. Out Big money contracts with big term and big years on them right now, because of what's going on with the pandemic, unless you're the Kansas City chiefs, I guess that is, and then on top of that cloudy last year in Seattle, only three and a half three sacks. Excuse me for the seahawks a year ago, not exactly big pass. rusher statistics are big pass rusher production for him to cash out in free agency so now all the sudden cloudy. Cloudy is still without a team or a couple of weeks away training camp ESPN's John. Clayton is reporting that he opening or entertaining his mind to one of those one year, proven deals similarly to Cam Newton maybe in the eight to nine to ten million dollar range, so that eight to ten million dollar range it could be affordable for the Patriots now on an incentive laden deal you offer cloudy, six or seven million dollars, base salary and the offer. Incentives are escalators hits those from production standpoint. One of those very easy ones could be that sack total you know last year only has three say this year he's going to have three and a half, and we'll give him an extra two million bucks as a not likely to be earned incentive because he didn't do it last year, and it's a really easy number for cloudy to reach. The defensive end position is one that a lot of people have talked about for the Patriots lately as a potential area for trade targeted in addition. Do you think that clowning makes sense? Football lies for the Patriots Defense. I've really couldn't create in a lab. A better hybrid defense event for bill check into Damian cloudy He is explosive. He's athletic. He's fantastic against the run. That's really his calling card. He has developed not as quite as excitingly as people were expecting as a pass rusher. Rusher I think he's not that guy on the edge. You one on one against tackles is going to beat guys, but if you move around, you move his locations alignment around a little bit, you know inside against a guard, leaving him outside and running him in the scheme pressure like a game or a stunt, or pick player or something like that he can be an absolute terror on those types of plays the ways. The Patriots get guys free for pass rushing opportunities to rush the. The quarterback is exactly how cloudy can really affect the pass rusher or affect the quarterback in the similar way, so look at Houston tape was Romeo Cornell a similar defensive coordinator to Bill Belichick who has a history here in New England obviously, there's a lot of the same schemes that they're running in use a lot of the same blitz packages. A lot of the same games are stunts along the defensive line that cloudy did very very well in Houston. That would project extremely well here. Here in New England system as well so for cloudy. I think a one year deal with bill. Belichick is honestly a blessing in disguise. Completely reset his market. He'd really thrive here. And it gives versatility has the ability to play both on and off the of scrimmage with the hand in dirt or up in a two point stands inside outside. He's exactly what bill would want. In that type of edge rusher. The question is is. Does that price come down enough for this to happen? On for all of our new, England, Patriots Coverage. You can find it on our website. "The. In signing with the New England patriots, things are about to change on offense. I'm Sierra that will here with Evan Lazar totally different skill sets from Tom Brady from Jerry said of what we were expecting out of the Patriots offense in his twenty twenty season, but which positional which area of this offense benefits the most from this citing while Sarah All off-season I've been scratching my head in racking my brain to figure out you. How does this patriots offense get better right? How do they work this year? In the one thing that kept on coming back to is that the way that they've built this team with the multiple tight ends, the brandon stable running back. Back, so they have when the Keel Harry being a big bodied rack type of receiver, I'm thinking I need a mobile quarterback. They need somebody that can move the pocket. They need somebody that can extend plays with his legs. They need somebody that can make the defense respect his running ability. They need to spy or contain them on the edge or do something like that and I was like listen. Dirksen could be that guy. We saw it in the preseason. He's a decent scrambler. He can run around a little bit, but now they got Cam Newton. And that's a whole different animal in this regard, and that's the most exciting part about this now is. Is that the rest of the legal are a lot of the rest of the League is playing eleven on eleven offensively right. They got the quarterback as a running thread. Defenses have to respect that they have to put an extra guy in the box or account for him in the box or the defender, and now the Patriots get to get in on that fun, and they get to get in on that Lamar. Jackson, style of offense, or whatever offense you WanNa Take the past you know Colin. Kaepernick Softens Cam, Newton's offense and Carolina. Now they get to do some of those things. That's really exciting and you know you look at the tape and you see. See Okay. You know even though you only carried the ball. Thirty six times on read option plays averaged over five yards per carry in two thousand, eighteen on those thirty six carries, but also their running game average five and a half yards per carry on running back carries off of read option, so we're talking about an offense that is far more efficient on the ground, and when you look at the the Patriots are building here. It's a run first offense with the play action passing attack with the defense second hold teams in the teens, and that's how they're going to win football games, and now they can really lean into that style with at quarterback. In the most recent concern surrounding cam was that..

"The. There's no doubt that Cam Newton joining. The New England Patriots makes them much more competitive, not only in their division, but four the conference in as a super bowl contender. I'm Sierra. Goodwill here with Evan. Lazar. Odds are good now that the Patriots are going to be right there with the Buffalo Bills to compete for the AFC child that they've won for so many years in a row now. What do you think that the cam signing gives to the Patriots to make them such a contender? Now we'll give trump card is what it gives them. It gives them somebody at the quarterback position that can really schematically impact the game with his legs, and they have that ability now to be plus one against the run, so you know. Know they have seven blockers, and the Defense has eight will now the Patriots are playing it on eight, because the defense has to account for the quarterback, so I think the biggest thing is that it's going to free up a lot of different options for the Patriots. They can run different schemes that we haven't necessarily seen in new. England with a stationary quarterback Tom Brady and they have the ability now to really be an extremely effective running team and I think if you look at the past and look at other. Other running teams that have really pace themselves offensively with their run game. You're talking about Baltimore for example, the big reason why Baltimore was gangbusters last year on the ground game is because a Lamar Jackson. Ray If you have a quarterback. Where is turning his back and handing the ball off and watching the runningback slam into a guys in the box all the time. You're really not going to be as potent as efficient. Put up as many points as you're going to need to win as many games as the Patriots Hope. Hope to win the season so all offseason long I've been looking. I've been kind of scratching my head. Thinking this offense with multiple tight ends with guys like kill Harry with those stable running backs that they have is really built for a mobile quarterback. It's built to have RPO's. It's built to have his own read actions. It's built to get the quarterback involved in any way shape, or form that they can now they how that type of Guy With Cam Newton. That offense becomes a little bit more difficult to defend. The Patriots now in the conversation of being super bowl contenders by simply adding Cam Newton. Like Super Bowl contenders a little bit rich because his injury. History is what it is right. You're counting on 'em being healthy now for nineteen games. If you're thinking about are talking about making a super bowl run. Maybe that's a little bit generous, but I think before they were one of those teams that was dark horse to make the playoffs rate with jared cinema. quarterback a team that could make the playoffs or could have ended up six ten. They were kind of one of those volatile teams now. Now I think that there are dark to make a run in the playoffs and not just make it because they have Cam Newton so still I don't think that there are a favorite i. don't think that they're one of those teams that you should circle as a contender necessarily, but that next kind of wave or the next kind of grouping of Dr Course candidates to maybe make that super to be that Tennessee titans for example wire last year. I think the Patriots can become that team now. For.

"The? Current situation our countries in Colin Kaepernick's name has been recirculating in the new cycle. I'm Sierra goodwill here with Emily Lazar in Taylor Kyle's with Roger Goodell's recent statement, admitting wrongdoing on behalf, the League for banning pro peaceful protests on the football field. Things have been brought up about okay if they lift that ban of kneeling during the naturally at them will NFL. Teams now take a chance on Colin Kaepernick in one team in particular, the New England patriots could potentially be a team that should consider bringing in panic for workout. Yeah I. Think the Roger Goodell's Statement I. Pay my jaw off the floor when he said that right because. After all this with Cabernet with the kneeling with the president, and all his stuff now you're gonna say all these years later that it's okay. I I was shocked I couldn't believe he walked that back. And as soon as he said that the first thing that I tweeted out right afterwards in myself was well. This is this is a May couple of cabinet in this is. Is a clean slate for him. He should have a clean slate here and he should not only be broadened for workouts, but he should be on a roster in the NFL. By the end of the summer. Really I would say and I think the biggest thing standing in his way is not actually talent, or the kneeling or anything like that anymore, but now that you're. You're three years removed from football. It's Kinda difficult to find out. What exactly is he? At thirty two years old three years removed from the game. What can you bring to the table anymore? Does he still have the straight? Does he still have the mobility because he's still have the a little bit semblance of accuracy, although it's never really the most accurate passer he. He was always a guy that could at least put the ball. Worry wanted more times than not, and that's going to be. The question is what these workouts with these tryouts whatever it ends up being..

"The. For the first time in two decades the New England patriots have different quarterback to work around I'm here. Goodwill here with Evan? Lazar lot of people have been talking about what changes we might see from the Patriots offense this year with assuming Jarret Stidham is leading the charge. What do you expect to change if dramatically or small with this offense? While I don't think the changes are going to be that dramatic Sierra, because you look at this offense and you look. Look at what they've had in place here for the last twenty years, and yes, things have been curtailed for Tom Brady and his set and fitting what he does best. Certainly, that is true, but it's also been a very successful system that's been in place here since the beginning of the Dynasty Bill Belichick and Charlie Weis. Really built the basis of the Patriots offense in the early two thousands. Then it sort of evolved when Josh. mcdaniels took over in the late. Late two thousands to mcdaniels vision, updating in a little bit with offenses in where things are going directionally with the entire league, and with the entire sport, tapping into some of the things like with chip, Kelly in the college game, but the no huddle offense, and some of air-raid concepts, getting in there, like Mesh and stuff like that, so the whole system has been in place for a really long time. This is a long way to get to this point the. The whole system has been in place for a really long time and I. Don't expect the Patriots to completely blow it up in reinvent. What do offensively because I. Don't think that stood them. skillset is a far cry from Tom Brady's. It's not like they're going from Tom Brady to Lamar. Jackson here. It's enough similarities there that I. think that they are going to keep it. Generally the same system and I know the terminology is going to be the same. Well obviously after. Two decades, they had a lot of faith in Brady's decision, making skills and his arm in general. What changes do you see them? Implementing based on what we know of stem so far while the biggest thing. I think that they will change is that there's going to certainly be more moving of the pockets so more bootleg actions more rollouts more things where you can get them on. On the perimeter on the move, a little bit cut the field in half. Those reads a little bit easier for them and use his legs which you know, he's not a big time runner, but he does have above average speed, so he used those legs and use that athleticism to move the pocket, a little bit and get defenses shaking a little bit more than what you would. Would in a traditional drop back shotgun type of passing system, so the Patriots will have more bootleg action more rollouts more things, involving Sims legs than we do see that in the past when Brady you know, had to sit out for deflate gate, suspension or two thousand eight with Matt Cassel with Jacoby Reset I would say more so in in the deflategate situation where the Patriots did. Did put more quarterback running elements into their offense, letting the quarterback run with the football. Keep the football himself or just roll out the pocket. So that's GonNa be the real. The the really big innovation I think for this patriots offense. We'll be incorporating more of moving the football outside the pocket for Jared Stadium to really make a little bit easier for him to read the field. The rest for Patriots Coverage.
