"england malians" Discussed on Swiss and Chips

"This is Swiss on chips. You'll British guy to Switzerland. I'm welcome to cisa chips. I'm Jay. I'm c. one city. And today we're going to be talking about the weather in Switzerland because it's absolutely scorcher outside. It's really hot, really hot and also really hot inside. We should say, yeah, it's like. A bit more than thirty degrees outside, and we try everything to keep the heat. We certainly do before we dive right in, maybe want to give a quick overview what we're going to talk today, what the topics. So like you said, we want to talk about. When is the best time to come and visit. And if you just come for a short trip to Switzerland. What else are we going to talk about? General things since Richland about the weather, the weather forecasts, the different Parsons Westerlund where the weather is how and so on and some apps that you might want to download or which is which our recommendation would be for for weather app for Switzerland. I think that's that's the rough outline. Exactly. Yeah. And I often found that when people coming to visit me here in Switzerland, the question with all ways, what's the weather going to be like and what should I bring? Yeah, that's very. And it's always been a difficult question to answer, and also they always ask, when is the best time to visit? Isn't it? That's why we also ask our Facebook group and long Twitter, we asked them, yeah. What? What do our listeners thing when the best time is to visit? Yep, exactly. And if you want to in our Facebook group, check it out. It's good Switzerland for English speakers, and we'd love to see you in that and how people answered the question on Twitter. Lay said that their favorite time to visit Switzerland was in winter. However, somewhat surprisingly to some of us in this room. The favorite answer on Facebook was spring, which I personally voted for. Yeah, spring was also the the worst. I mean, the had the least votes on Twitter has to be said, it's not like thousands of votes, just like we just sort of tested the water. Yeah, and there are quite a few comments in quite a discussion on Facebook. What what did they say? A few people said that winter is really the best time to come because of sort of cozy walks with amazing mountain scenes Steph wrote, we'll say the best hot chocolate in the world can go, whoa, interior nijus- said that the mountains of snow scenes and Christmas market. So some of his favor. Things. Hence, he voted for winter. That's my dad. By the way, we should say. You could see that in the Facebook group. But Richard Wright and said that he voted for summer as that's his most recent experience. But he's also visited winter a few times in his talented. I'm going to really like to come again. However, I think this is a common problem with people from England. You know, it's really, really code here and lots of people don't want to come to Switzerland when it so code and less they're coming for skiing. Yeah. Then you want them to be also maybe depends where you come from. You don't have all the proper clothes and so on. Yeah, exactly. But Richard has a really, really nice comment here, and here's a big fan. So. Richard. Yeah. What else do we have? Oh, I'm one person will, right. That's a trick question which I think is a really good answer because obviously, all seasons and Switzerland's are really nice. So it's quite hard to cheese between. And finally, Eric also right. He's only being here in spring and mostly summer. So I guess that's why he answered spring all summer. And he did also say apart from a horrible heat wave during the summer, happily loved by seasons. All for us to be said. I think that's the nice thing in Switzerland that we really have usually four seasons. So it's quite different each season than I think it's really very much depending what you want from Switzerland, what your expectations are. So if you want to come for skiing or want to see a winter sort of winter wonderland vibe, like John, obviously you come in winter, and if you want to maybe go hiking for example than you might come in the best time to come as an autumn, I think. And this is why I voted for spring and often tell people to come and visit in spring because it's generally compared to England, in my opinion, quite sort of sunny and nice and warm, but it's not too hot near. What do you consider us bring because I think like April April and beginning of may, it can be you. You must be a bit lucky that it's not raining too much. Yeah. I guess APRIL's, there's danger of rain is quite nice time down early summer. Let's call it then. Yeah, early. I think it's a really good time to come, but it really depends what you want and you can visit throughout the year. That's definitely true. But also, for example, if you want to come for winter season, I wouldn't come maybe on Christmas because nowadays we get snow later and later and I would I would prefer come maybe on February, for example, to be sure to really, really am have enough snow for covered winter wonderland here. Chances are bigger, but obviously you need a bit of luck in Switzerland can be rainy every yeah, rain can always happen. Rain can always happen. Snow is never really hundred thousand percent. Sure. And. So this question of trying to predict the weather and how predictable is is something that one of our listeners, David, David, left a voice message about actually sent us. A voice message was really nice. That was really cool to hear me if you want to do the same by the way, case website, Swiss and chips dot com. A new can record a voice message there. So let's hear from David. Now, the one thing I miss about a true genuine Swiss with report actually two things the first one and what allegation will begin to see zoo degree centigrade or such degrees Fahrenheit, that's inaugural Clemson and the second one, of course, whatever that what Elvis, rather we're going to see snow that being dish Neff, organs. These are two very Swiss elements over whether reports also the phone, these special kind of wind that really does get to you some headaches as well, especially join decently warm days. Now in the u. k. the weather report is very much random as an. I'm so used to the fact that it could be raining when it says it's sunny or it could be sunny when it's raining. I just simply don't carry an umbrella because more often than not the weather reports going to probably get this one wrong as well. Whereas in Switzerland, the weather report is a bit more slightly more predictable and at least know tomorrow. If I'm going to central Zurich, I'm joy have to carry something like an umbrella like that. But still it is still very random. It is still unpredictable and having lived in places outside Switzerland and the UK I've been to other places. Like for example, the far east where the weather report is far more straightforward. Like for example, sun throughout all of autumn and winter -cational snow form, but in Switzerland. And in the u. k. it's so random. Sometimes I feel lazy. I just go outside with a jacket with a hood, and I let the weather do whatever really wants to do. And I think I'm always going to stay pretty much dry sense. Really at level, so David. Yep. Some really interesting points loads of information and yet has maybe just to to say, very in brief. He. Lift in London. Is that right now he's living in China and he lift in Switzerland. So yes, quite an experience. And I think he brings up quite a few points. For example, the there are in Swiss Medio the Switzer Fulco Swiss better forecast. There are some special expressions. You might not hear everywhere. For example, the follow grants. He mentioned which means snow line there is a changing from snow to rain. At which you'll start to get snow. Yeah, exactly. Great now, yeah, that's something we certainly don't normally have in England Malians comment. And also what he said. The phone is also quite interesting. We are split basically by the Swiss Alps. So and the southern part is basically much warmer and the phone is coming from there. It's like a warm wind, which usually melts away our snow and many people get headache from that wind. And we have also the counterpart, it's called the beast, and it's a very cold one that's coming from the north. So that's these two wins that are very of mentioned in the weather forecast. Yeah. So basically two different types of wind and they each have a name. This is a completely new concept to me when I came here and the weather cost, and I thought, what are people talking about with this wind thing yet? It's quite often spoken about has to be a very often, and you can also feel it day life. You don't need to know is today fern or PISA just can feel it because the beezus very fighting coal yet. Very gold in the furnace really like like Afon. How has a phone call in English hairdryer ha? No. It only takes like, hey, said, right. You told you this is a giant mystery to me. I think what what he what he brings up is an interesting topic that the weather forecast in Switzerland is not extremely accurate sometimes because, well, that's a discussion point. I'd say very good, but it all depends on your perspective. Doesn't it? Yeah, it's true. So I think it's very difficult to have the local better because we have so many mountains. So many lakes and so many rivers where all the wind and everything is is just very difficult to forecast compared to maybe a desert where just everything is the same. So with assets of like a wave of of rain is coming, but it's like small rain spots, and they can't really say, is it exactly at your spot gonna rain, not except except if it's gonna rain all over Switzerland. It's coming at four AM or whatever. So yeah, that that's quite difficult to tell. And that's why they split. Also, the weather usually end the weather forecast in these parts like southern Switzerland, northern Switzerland, and all. And also we also have with. We call it the planes. Yeah, flat part of the country. So middle. Exactly. So usually tease these parts are always a bit different weather and then the all, obviously it's cooler and more often rain, for example. And in the summertime you, it's very often that in the evening, it's come, maybe a storm thunderstorm bit of rain and compared to in winter where indulge the weather is is made specially from the peace influences lots of the wetter. So the bees applause await the clouds and the new half very often in the Alps, blue sky and lower down, and Banu might have a bit of focus on especially closer to the lakes you were. We'll have very often four days. Throughout February and so on. You will have Faulk from the from the lake, but in the absence, very nice sweater. That's that's why in winter, many people from lower Switzerland, go skiing or hiking or something to get out of the of the amounts. Yeah, exactly. And then they see the cl- seek clouds. What do you call it? The Nabal man Nabal marriage translates as a folk see basically when you high up in the mountains and you can look down on just see clouds covering areas. Sure. Most, I've seen it from a plane for example. Exactly. Yeah, that's a bit specialties I would say. So if you are trying to look up the weather where you're going for the day, for example, or you just want to Vegas dare what's going to be happening where you are. There's a couple of different weather apps bring various different advantages. And I think the most commonly used on is Mateer Swiss. That's the weather forecasting from Switzerland. And they have an episode which is quite useful and that app, you can have a look on the wetter map. So you can scroll along the time line like half an hour back over twelve hours in advance, and you see the rain is coming when roughly where and so on. So you can gifts you're quite good idea. And the also you have a Poland for. Cost pollen forecast, so you can see what kind of pollen is going to be strong on which day and wear in particular. So in cool. Yeah. And then you have to ask Saddam asset. I've met you also. Then you can watch the TV program again or something. I see that you can watch the weather forecast you fame if you mentioned and also it's very detailed. Yeah, it's also very good. Also one up which I used, it's called raincoat and the only thing it does. It tells you fifteen minutes in advance when it's going to rain. For example, when when you travel in the US or somewhere, it works really good. Yeah. It really tells you very, very accurate on the minute. It's gonna rain, rain in fifteen minutes in Switzerland. It works not so good. I'll say, like I said before, very often you have this rain circles coming rain band. Yeah, and it it might it your might just not. So that's why I guess it's not working so very well. So like I said, I would just take download one up, maybe the metro Swiss and that would be my aperture is the way has to be said, yeah. So what do you think was this a good overview of the sweater, or did I confuse you more. You were at the beginning where to begin? I think the weather is one thing, Linden England having common when it comes to the weather is that is changeable and the people that I loved to talk about it. That's Jennings true. And then it's raining a lot. Yeah. I would say people quite often Osman, what's the difference between the weather and Switzerland and. And I know really say the thing is they're quite similar if it's cold in England, it's probably coat here. It's just the in Switzerland. We experienced the weather in more extreme ways. You know, if it's code in Switzerland, it will be colder than in England over it rains. It rains heavier, the thunderstorms allowed. It goes on for longer. The summer is just a bit hotter is not dramatically different, but everything is more exaggerated. We might have a little bit of snow in England, but then it snows a lot more hand stays for longer. Yeah, I think that's, that's. That might be true. But what the thing is, we are also quite well prepared. I think if you come for a visit and you, there will be a sounder storm. Then our houses are quite well built us. I wouldn't get. No, I know, but I just think don't be scared if they say on the on the weather forecast, oh, there will be heavy some thunderstorms and lots of snow or whatever. When you see all these of launch forecast or in winter. To meet or snowing to be scared for everything is prepared. For example, if it snows, like two meters in the Alps, then that's not really a big problem because everything is prepared for the snow. Yeah, exactly. But whereas when we went to England last year during the winter and there was lots of snow predicted I need, it was potentially going to be chaos if that's not really came, but here comes, it's pretty much okay in the cities, they have a few problems because always snow falls far. It's natural. It takes time to Claire away before buses and trams can travel normally, but it's not widespread panic outbreak like it is in England thing. The only thing is that we are not well prepared for the heat now at the moment. So we don't have really air conditioning and houses anyway. And I don't think if you come in real in July or August, I might would recommend to have a closer look. If you're a hotel has an air conditioned because I don't think that most hotels will have on. I'm not. Sure. But I don't think so because it's not really needed here know exactly. I think places that Germany have a lot of hot weather. There have air conditioning, but you know, like an England, we'll have a heat wave may be a few days or something, maybe a few weeks at the moment, but generally not safe. Also fans on that widespread in England, but you probably have a fam- here, I guess. Yeah, I think so. Finance is an citizens wide common, but also in hotels. I'm not sure. But anyway, you can buy one everywhere at the moment. If you're lucky all sold out. Yeah, that's if you really like the heat, I would recommend to come like between twenty stuff to Lyon, twenty focused. It's hot time into a trend. Good. All right. So happy. Have liked what you've heard during this episode. If you have some thing you would like to say to us, give us some feedback or maybe you've got a view on what the weather is, what I can Switzerland compared to where you live or kind of different. So similarity to in varying Switzerland. That would be really great. You can go to Swiss and chips dot com. Our website and you can leave as voice message and we'll play on the show next week. Yeah, I think that I would be really interested to know the weather is at your place where you're listening compared to Switzerland or what you are now. Yes, thanks for listening.
