Passenger Steps in to Fly Plane After Pilot Fails to Turn Up

"Am a pretty regular regular traveller on the airlines and came across interesting travel tip recently all right and that is that if your flight is going to be severely verily delayed you can just volunteer to fly it yourself. Absolutely I've done that several times as someone said it's a variation on on on try the fish or what is it. have the fish have the fish have the fish of course being this sort of meam that I think Steve Tupper came doc with where on an airline flight he urges the pilots to have the fish in the hopes that they will be food poisoned and Steve. We'll be called up to the cockpit to fly the airplane so this is this is a little variation on that this is a flight in someplace someplace not in the US but a flight in England England to like was it to Australia or it was just as wherever it was to Manchester England Alicante Spain gene to Spain okay and and there was a scheduling Snafu in terms of flight crews apparently the only person was missing was the captain. It sounds like there was a first officer present all right but the captain is missing all right and the captain's GonNa be missing for a long time right and so one of the passengers on on the aircraft turns out is in fact a captain for that airline all right and he notices is this going on and he realizes that he and his wife and his kids hit or kids are about to be massively delayed on their way to their vacation and so he gets on the telephone to whoever they're they're dispatch or whatever and says listen. Here's the deal field's really delayed. I'm here I can fly. I got my ID. I'm in shape. You know I mean everything's Hunky Dory. If you guys are okay with it and if you're okay with me flying in civilian clothes it's all right and and apparently the dispatch people came back to him about well. He said it's sixty eight seconds or something silly like that but basically pretty quickly they came back and said yes do it and and so a long time to think about it. There's a youtube video that shows that shows this fill in captain standing at the front of the main cabin talking on the public address explaining this whole thing saying so. Are you okay with all right with you know with us not being delayed with me flying in civilian clothes so that we're not delayed and he got like almost a standing ovation imagine. It's like Yes yes but I'd be sitting there going really. How do I know this guy's really a captain. How do I what who's WHO's vetted. Did this thing I'm I'm a little. I don't know I but see then. I'm a I'm a ironically. I'm a timid airline Flyer and so I would I would be suspicious. I should say that because I can't see out the front window. I you know Jeb. You and I've had this conversation. I've explained this. I believe leave see. This is really going to get into deep deep stuff here or not you know we. I believe that riding on an airliner is is sorta like playing Russian roulette all right. I believe that you're playing Russian. Roulette with about a million chamber gun. and you're basically saying I will oh magic you know. The mystics are saying we will magically get you to your destination all right but you've got to put this million chamber gun to your head and pull the trigger all right and if you live you arrive all right like. I don't like the chances I don't like the odds I don't like that. I have no control the other. There's the other metaphor here's the other for income. Schroeder's airplanes airline passenger. This is shorting airline passenger. Okay is like once I go into that airline cabin and once they closed the door. I am both dead and alive all right. I mean you know whether or not I arrive as a living creature whether I'm able to leave alive. is totally out of my hands. I have no influence on it at all. Have the fish

"So I'm very very big fan of Richard Attenborough's movie, Gandhi and being Kingsley who is partly of Indian origin. But partly not where's dark makeup in that to make himself. Look look more Indian is that acceptable is not acceptable. How does that work? This this lady needs better makeup artists. That's incredible itv's this. Yeah. Because the BAFTA award buying them. So this is an England England has gone completely mad. They have gone completely mad. Did you see the story that the of the guy who was? Homosexual who said who came out as homosexual then decided to swear off sex for year? He didn't do any retraining or reprogramming or anything else. He just swore off sex for a year. And he came out and said, I actually think I like women, and I'm going to give women a world and said, I think I'm heterosexual. They crucified him. Crucified him really funny because for a long time in Great Britain met line was not really all that heavily policed. You know, there are a lot of men who were on both sides it out over the course there their lives. Oscar Wilde and everyone everyone to British private school and. Prince galling Prince Charles will insist. Isn't there could be a man? So. So they were he was crucified because he decided that he liked women. Right to do that. You don't have a right to come out and say that what what are you? What are you doing? What are you doing? No sexual. Cynthia Nixon thing, right? When she she's spent most of her lives, a heterosexual woman later in life. She decided she was going to date women, and she married this woman. And she said well for me, it was a choice. You know, it wasn't like some new biological thing. They just suddenly hit me when I was fifty eight or whenever it was. And she got a lot of flack for that. I'm I suggesting that people have some, you know, some kind of say over that. But yet that's what they're that's what they're per marketing. Now, the argument now is it is a choice. It is a choice. Wait. I thought you said it wasn't a choice people making the argument that this choice. I don't get the people who are now saying, you know, you've got to wait, and you can decide, and you should experiment fluid gender is.

"Dot com that the dolphins are going to be naming Patrick Graham Packers assistant coaches the defensive coordinator dolphins still have a head coach. But a number of reports last week suggested they're going to name Brian Flora's their new head coach he's the New England defensive coordinator. He's busy. They can't do that. Until after the Super Bowl got a tweet on the OT rules. And this tweet says I'm not super in favor of the current tea rules, but I don't really feel. It's unreasonable to give the defense a chance to come up and make a play. Both teams had all three sides of the ball on the field all day both played a complete game and were a complete team. But that's the whole point of the discussion. Right. Both teams had all three sides of the ball on the field all day until they got to overtime. And only one offense was on the field and only one defense was on the field. That's the whole point of the discussion on the overtime rule. So thank you for your tweet. All right. You got anything else you want to get to? I'm just tagging yet another person in the in the show in the we wouldn't be talking about this. If it wasn't New England England in the tweet where we point out that we've been talking about this for six years, including every playoff game that has gone this way. And I I know we've talked about the college overtime format. It's wildly exciting. I doubt the NFL would ever do that. Put the ball to twenty-five ball teams. Get a possession. Gotta go for two by the third overtime. It's a fantastic overtime format. But I just again, I wait for the explanation from the NFL if someone says, hey, you changed your rule to guarantee possessions on field goals. Why.

Is warranted this, ink England England got up there, and said the coaches, wanted this they they believe in Beekman and they. Want him so I'm listening. To them that's what they made it, sound like, you know like you said they tried it out there to most important coaches in that community guys, that they they love and revere and I wouldn't, have spoke but I guess you know what, you need, you need you, needed him you needed, that? Blessing right Yeah they did and that's kind of get, back to my point where they can't do, anything right, it's going to. Be fairly right right now Now you. You, say you. Choose you choose your words very carefully Jamie and I think I think a. Certain? Nice in in serve inviting them to they You say. There they're familiar with, them kind of like Hollis house got into that position AD because this was largely because there's always familiar with him in new as work turned out to be, okay maybe we'll maybe, be but the fact that we're having this discussion right now just shows you the stain that comes with anybody associated with Michigan state right, now and that's not. Gonna it's not gonna be cleansed purge in the short in the short. Term it's just. Not it's just not gonna happen and maybe Michigan stayed realize that, we we gotta go big. Got I gotta think that that he's got some capabilities at. Least, yeah I gotta hope from Michigan state that he's got some capabilities on his. Own and with that being, said I mean does. A couple a, couple more months they just make England with the permanent president, no he's gone No no he's gone he's he's always. I, I sorry Yeah Say that they may do? That May may may maybe but unlike unlike when like, when it came to Beekman they they've been several to, have have expressed publicly that, they they want to move on And I don't I don't think under any circumstance that might. Be viewed as I. Don't I don't think England has. Said he. He was short term big never. Said that David Beekman has never said he didn't wants the. Job English always always indicated I really don't want this job I'm ready I'm just here for the transition I'm ready to go as soon as I'm allowed to go I imagine. As, soon as. They get. Somebody in place there as president that or. Once as soon as they, go through a real process that that England will be long. Gone yeah I don't I don't I don't see. That happen if that happens if that was the happened then, you might as well just go ahead and throw them, those folks out there on I. Don't, even I. Don't even. "Leverage i saw a headline that breathlessly screamed as much and i object to that very forcefully let me say this these children that are injured hfs a white house official that told the washington to new england england building is to foresight to the table by the way i want that person to say to my face i really do i'll meet them at the white house today because i think that's a disgrace fire should that person be fine fire that person should have the guts to come forward and put their name to that quote cool pivot to suddenly like pool on it maybe outside for the throne real problem with this is leaks there's too many yeah that's that's what we need and see how she really like when she was like well i don't think certainly don't wanna see these people use the leverage and he was like somebody at the white house said there'd being used then it was like tell me who it's my god it's about faced who told you that is is never a good defense just makes you look guilty told yeah exactly i can't remember a time when just an outright evil was happening and you know people just felt this hopeless as like so what do you do you call your congress person do we done that start laying down in front of the fucking buses as they bring children like away from their parents like what do you what do you actually do like first of all if jeff sessions and stephen miller can safely walk down the street after this like people should be throwing something at them i'll say paint and food pies pies yeah they don't waste some show off a waffle or one of those pies from the helps okay those that's fine yeah and also it's just on the policy front it's worth noting that trump vetoed a bill that basically had all the shit that he was asking for it had money for the wall it had a you know the lottery thing that he's worried about but you know he has stephen miller running this thing and stephen miller is specifically just pushing it further and further because he doesn't think that there should be any immigration like he wants.

"Okay i'm about to get in there and is is mother in season i think it's five okay okay i think it's five yeah you're a writer yourself yes i am and so what do you think makes something really good is it is it the emotion behind it as the writer packing into it your own experience or is it just flat out skill what do you think it is i think could writers for comedy i think it's that thing you have your funny like ultimately you have to understand what's funny and you have to have this intuitive sense of really good comedy and i think for like crap on the craft side of it i think you have to structure things in amazing ways that they pay off and they deliver slowly and you're not like you never leave that sort of wavelength of believability if you will so i think that's the other sensibility that you need to require and i also think it's like a ton of hard work and just having that knack so yet because you know what you guys answer it's like it feels like a boring you guys do on this show i mean this show is like veep is like no other show i it i'm confuses the how you're able to get that on film and is there a big element of improv since i know that that's what your background is but there's a lot of it that feels to to real to be scripted exactly there's a lot of effort that goes into making the show feel sloppy but ultimately when we film it it's completely scripted but what we've done our mando nucci created the show he had wrote the first four years and then dave mandel when the show moved from baltimore to paramount here dave mandel took it over and it was all american writers so the first four years was armando in a bunch of his british apostles you know he had a bunch of great homerun writers from england and then when the show england england england england england yes uhhuh thank you for greco.

"To do but if if the and if it was a a contract you can't discriminates the it's right there you made the deal and you have to follow through and i think that if you look at the role of government in this and if you take the extreme so on the one hand you have the anarchists view which is no government people kumud take care of themselves it's all govern without any kind of intervention from any any any thority whether it's local state and federal in the other end you have you know the all centralized in the federal government fema what have you may be even more restrictive than what it is today but if you think about the spectrum of what that could possibly mean i think that if you start to look at fema as an organisation the fundamental challenge with fema just like with anything that centralized at the federal level is that they're incapable of responding in a contextual way on a state basis a response to say an earthquake in los angeles is going to be different than a response to a tornado or hurricane excuse me in texas which is going to be different than a noreaster that wipes out people in new england england or a tornadoes that take place in the midwest in the the problem with centralising at all is that fema has to be all things to all people and as we've seen throughout recent examples they're just not very good at it and they're slow and they're an effective in yeah they do bring that false sense of of of hope in of security when you see the trucks rolling down to to me a kind of brings fear because the other thing fema gets to do as we all know is that fema has actually has an office called military power but fema has force behind it theme can actually enact they they can they can supersede her override local governments are in some regional governments and enact martial law i believe if i'm not mistaken i hope that law in anger who's managing this curfew that's be enforcement i don't know the answer i think it is the city of houston i think that's a local think.
