California Governor Candidate Larry Elder's Message to Voters

"Larry Elder. Um, what is the message that you want to say to the people listening all over California? Obviously you've gone through the issues and so forth. But That they must turn out. They must turn out in large numbers. They can't leave it to other people to do the heavy lifting for them, right. Well, that's exactly right. Mark, you know. Are you happy? Forget about Larry Elder. Are you happy that for the very first time, people are leaving the state? Are you happy that the price of a home has just now hit $800,000? Are you happy stepping over homeless people? Are you happy about needles on Venice Beach? Are you happy about the crappy education People are getting K through 12 while spending $15,000 a pop. Per year per student. Are you happy with all of that? Well, if you are, then maybe you want to retain this guy. But if you're not, how about some change? How about some common sense? Are you happy that this state is running out of water? Israel is a desert country mark. We've got a little body of water next to them called the Mediterranean. They've been able to figure it out would be solid nation plants. We have a little body of water next to what's called the Pacific Ocean. And we can't figure this out. Are you happy with how severe these forest fires are? Are you happy that $30 billion was stolen from the employment Development Department money that was supposed to be for the unemployment for Californians money that was stolen, but people in prison filing for unemployment benefits and getting them people, criminals in Nigeria, filing for unemployment benefits and getting them $30 billion stolen. Are you happy with all of that? If you're not go to elect elder dot com And throw something in the tip jar because my opponent Mark can raise and spend an unlimited amount of money. And he's doing just that. From the usual suspects. The teachers union, the public sector unions, Hollywood big terror, So throw something in the tip jar. Make this a bit of a fair fight. If you're not happy with what's going on in California, which is why people are leaving the state taking their jobs with them.

"Then it turned out. He did not have an unemployment department that was confident enough to mail out checks, which is really all you have to do. You have to look and look at the application, verify it and then send the check. And this department. Call the Employment Development Department. And how is Wee learned? They send out debit cards? Yeah, it's a colossal It's so bad that they're going to shut down for two weeks to try to restart. That's right. No new unemployment claims could be taken until October, 5th This decision was buried in a weekend of news Saturday night. The report came out from Gavin Newsom Strike team and then the announcement by the Employment Development Department. They're going to do a two week reset. Do you know how many people are waiting on checks? 1.6 million. You know how they did it for a week. 6.7 million calls a week. They have 20 people answer the calls. Now you know why nobody could get through the highest taxes in the nation, and they had no money to hire more than 20 people. When the governor Through these people out of work on his own. A lot of it was unnecessary. I and we found out the other day that the fraudsters air getting paid. There's a lot of lot of criminals. We're sending in fraudulent applications. They do it with stolen I d. And they get their money. Anyway, The news was so bad that Newsome released this this audit this report at nine o'clock on Saturday night. Hoping nobody would notice. It did speak about it today at his new news conferences, this graceful we got Assemblyman Jim Patterson, the Republican from Fresno. Who may be the the on ly voice of opposition and reason in the entire state. Here, Jim, How are you? I'm doing pretty good. Look, if you want to hide something, you send it out. On Friday after five o'clock, right, But if you want to make sure no one ever sees it, you drop it in the middle of the night on a Saturday work anymore, though, with the Internet. Well, it tells me they think it does. That's how out of touch and foolish they are. But anyway, I by the way. I'm not the only one that noticed this news media is noticed. You've noticed it. John Myers. Ellie. Time's noticed it, but there's a lot of chatter about why in the world something that's supposed to be this significant is dropped late on a Saturday. I mean, this is a single member, but not a single member, the Legislature. Saw this, not our staff. None of us were even briefed except a handful of acolytes of of the of the governor and then The rest of us, including lots of angry Democrats, I might say were cut out of this as well. So They? They did it and thought they could get away with it. I suppose I was. What good is a two week reset. By the way. That was a recommendation from the strike team. Just take two weeks off. What are they supposed to just catch up, then? Well, that's basically they're goingto Take people's Names, addresses email number. You, Khun. You know email that he had to call it in that you know you get in some kind of a queue and then after the two weeks They'll come back and they'll start processing and what they're saying is that they'll be able to process now. After this new Computer program that they're goingto Try to cable on to Ah, Horrible, uh, system in the first place. I don't know how that's gonna work. But here's here's my gripe with it. They're saying that that two week delay isn't going to cost people time. Well, obviously it is. But the federal law requires that from the time that you have your claim, and that you notify them and you make your claim. They have to turn it over. I think it's almost 89 90% of the time within a two week period, state of California has been out of compliance with federal law. How long it should take to deliver somebody's unemployment and they've been out of compliance for years now, and they're patting themselves on the back for saying we're gonna put you on hold for two weeks. Then we'll come back and process. Maybe you'll get another 34 weeks and that's supposed to be a big improvement. It's not. The backlog won't be cleared until January. 2021. How are they going to clear 1.6 million claims? I don't I just don't. I just don't think they could do it. But it's worse than that. They remember the promises we've heard. We were told they'll clear the backlog in September. Now they're going to clear the backlog by January, 2021. Think about it. There are people that go clear back to March. Millions of them and they're not good. They're waiting through March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November December, maybe by January, 2021 the backlog. What was that was supposed to be cleared. In September. So you know this is just a lot of fancy footwork by a strike Force Strike team that the governor hand strike force is a joke. I read the other day that their computer systems are ancient, Which is this story we hear over and over again about many departments. It says they run on 30 year old Kobol programming. John Coble. Alright, But what? Why? Why is this still going on? I mean, every year we're hearing about this. What? The DMV Now we're hearing about the unemployment office. Why? Why does this go on? I don't understand. You guys have the most tax money in the nation. Look We are. We are almost 20 years in the 21st century. This is California, fifth largest economy in the planet. We've got geniuses in Silicon Valley that can turn you know Amazon into something where you get on your safe. You pay What? You're looking for. Everything secure. You push a button, and it shows up tomorrow morning on the porch. California has built and continues to build bureaucracy's like they built in the forties and fifties and the sixties and the seventies. In other words, it's a bunch of government workers. And it's a bunch of government workers that are given what amounts to monopolistic government type of training. Which is, by definition, slow and suspect plotting, and then you're given the technology that isn't just old it. It is falling apart and they do this over and over again. My big question here is why in the world aren't they saying we're going to stop doing it The old way? Okay. Why not? But you're on the inside. They're they're doing I mean, they're making conscious decisions. To run a bad system. You see, these are the same criticisms that been going on for years with other agencies. Why did why is there nobody in the government, including the Legislature willing to buy a new computer system and hire new people? The money is there It's always been there..

"Close. All right. California's pushing paws on the I read a stat this morning. Did you know that one in 1000 calls is currently making it through to the employment development department in California right now, I knew it would be one in the whole bunch. But not one in 1000. That is crazy. Yeah, so we're not going to get through? No, you're not getting through, and that's the problem. You've got a backlog of 600. 1000 claims well, and they've got so now officials in California is saying, Hey, Edie, we're putting you on pause, so they're freezing the employment Development Department for two weeks and they're supposed to be able to restructure in two weeks. I hope that's not possible. No, it's because this is panic. This is panic mode. And, of course, the way you said it, Jen makes it sound nicer. They will not take your claim for the next two weeks. True. I mean, that is that you're holding their whole job is to receive claims from people who need help and then process them and give them help and what they're saying, because they still haven't been able to get overwhelmed. I mean, there's always know we haven't been basically because we haven't been able to effectively helpyou now We're officially not going to help us while we were going to help you. Now it's two weeks of not helping you and our admitting that we're right. And two weeks from now will start not helping you again. Right then we'll go back to Obliquely not Yes. All right, let's take a break. We'll come back and do more of a handle on the news. Let's check in. With that. California unemployment rate drops to 11.4% in August, still among nation’s worst

"Unemployment rate fell to 11.4% in August. The Employment Development Department says the state added 101,900 jobs during the month, most for government jobs, including temporary positions for the U. S. Census. California lost more than 2.6 million jobs in March and April because of Corona virus, The state has regained nearly a third of those jobs. But restaurants and other hospitality businesses have been the hardest hit. The sector lost another 14,600 jobs in August, with Corona virus restrictions still in place across much of the state.

In addition to the Flex Alert, Pacific Gas and Electric might have to cut power starting tomorrow because of expected high winds and heat that could create fire danger. There are growing concerns about employment development Department fraud in California. There are reports of possible widespread fraud in California's unemployment system, following numerous reports of people receiving unsolicited letters from the state's jobless agency, someone debit cards that contained personal information about the people and some residents, who are trying to claim benefits say when they contacted the California Employment Development Department. They were told someone else had collected the money using their name. The U. S. Department of Labor reported that California's process more than 405,000 pandemic unemployment assistance claims last week. Accounting for that half of all such claims. Nationally, former officials with the department say. This may be the potential fraud given the ridiculously outsized number of claims. "Of this cove in 19 handling in California has been Unfortunate, disappointing, frustrating all of the above. The California state auditors now warning that $71 billion in Corona virus aid 71 billion. Okay, that's half more than half of our state budget every year. California's $71 billion krone virus aid package could be wasted. The state auditor says that there are no proper internal controls, lack of follow through lack of review and accountability on payments. And no none other than assembly member patents, and I believe No Ta Blackie. Assemblyman Tom Lackey yesterday posted a picture of a stack of letters is holding up stack of letters in his hand. With the California DDD logo on them, the employment development Department that's the you know, Dumpster fire of an agency that Eyes supposed to do unemployment claims but has got a huge backlog of a million five claims and 80% of their phone calls have not been answered. Well, Tom Mackey is holding up a stack of 74 letters. That contain Cards. ATM cards with hundreds, if not thousands of dollars of unemployment payouts on them. That's how the department has been providing a lot of folks with their unemployment coverages. They give ATM cards to them. The letters were brought. To his office by constituent. And there's one problem with the letter. Letters. They all were sent to the same home home. My goodness, 74 letters to the same home now. Fortunately, there was an honest constituent. There is like I think they made a mistake. I got 74. Helpings of unemployment benefits 74 So the example that the state auditors are raising is exactly this issue. We also brought you the story two weeks ago from whistleblower that over 350,000 unemployment insurance payouts have been flagged as probable fraud. And with very little hope that we're going to recover because they give these these people these debit cards and they they get the money and they run. Ah, racket of prisoners up in the Bay Area. They were arrested because the prisoners applied for unemployment benefits and received unemployment benefits and but for the fact that a prison guard overheard them bragging about it. They probably would have gotten away with it. I'm going to show you some of this stuff. Just so you know you're not hearing about this in the traditional media in California, But this colossal waste fraud and abuse is happening right under the nose of Uh, Cobblepot, the s and governor of how gobble But he might have good hair, but he's completely inept $71 billion. I mean, if they even wrong by half, you're still talking about $35 billion. I mean that that's an unbelievable amount of money for it to be for the auditor to warn That it could be wasted. It's unacceptable, Carl. It's completely unacceptable. Yep. So let me read you this letter that was sent to me by a listener. We love the mail that we get here. Some of it's filled with tips, whistleblowers, others others. Others tell us to go. You know, you know what, But every once in a while, we get stories that I think reflects some of the pain that's going on in California and the colossal failure of our leaders in our state to do the right thing. This is from it was Ford to me from a landlord. And he said, I wanted to share Carl. This is from one of my tenants as who has been a tenant for years and one of my buildings when the government closed down. She was told just to hold on. And I offered her no need to pay rent. And whatever she was authorized to re open. She can reopen. By the way. The Ah tenant is a massage therapist. Unfortunately, her industry has got no relief at all. And so this is where it has led her. These are real people with real problems, not government statistics that may or may not be correct. This is sad. So this is the letter that he received from his tenant. Um It's good. I hear she is a woman. Hi, Tina. And that's ah, one of his staffers. Um, Unfortunately, I have to vacate the property. This is a last minute decision. I was going to E mail. So And so today, the so and so's the owner. As of tomorrow. My husband is now unemployed as well. After looking at our finances, we simply can't continue to live in California. We have given up our condo. We will be moving back to our hometown in Mississippi. California's current policies have literally driven us out of the state. I know it's last minute, but as of Tuesday next week, we would have nowhere to live. Luckily, we have a family willing to open their arms to help us recover. The office has been cleaned out with the exception of the sink with the front.

"To noon, Laurie Levy, a spokesperson for the state's Employment Development Department, confirmed that the more complicated questions are reserved for certain e d representatives who work morning shifts. The more experienced representative, we have that reveal require about six months of training. They're the ones that we try to reserve to be. Ableto actually take claims over the phone in the morning, and then they process claims in the afternoon so that we don't get behind on payments. The CD is in the process of hiring more than 5000 new workers. But according to Levy, the issue isn't too few staff to help with those trickier questions. It's the number of people tying up the phone lines with simpler ones that could be answered with online resource is I talked to a lot of people who have spent so much time trying to get through on the phone lines, and when I get there question it was easily answered just by looking at the top ethic cues that we change it every week. Based on what we're hearing from customers, But Levi also acknowledged other parts of the site can be confusing. Like the form, people have to complete to re certify their application every two weeks, the same form that kept Antonio rails payments in limbo all those months on the bi weekly certification question Number one asks Where you too sick to work. And question number to ask. Was there any reason other than sickness or anywhere? You couldn't accept a job offer deeds? Levi says. A lot of people are answering. Yes, on the second question. Because they think of covert 19 as the reason they aren't getting job offers. "86 1877664 7886 Comment on anything going on in the world. It probably won't be until August, and we're not that far away from August yet always so weak yourself. That we're going to have another stimulus bill come out of Congress. The Democrats in the House of Representatives passed something in May, but it's dead on arrival in the U. S Senate they wanted to extend The unemployment benefits provided by the federal government. That's a $600 per week boost into January. Republicans in the U. S. Senate are not thrilled. In fact, think about this. The average state benefit for unemployment. Is $370 a week. That's across the whole country. So If you get that, plus the $600 per week some looked at that and said it That's a bit of a disincentive want to return to employment long as that's around well, because it's ahh, over $1000. It's $1000 a week roughly. That's very close to $1000 in California for 50 a week. So you're making 1000 50 a week for not working in California. That's a guess So the first thing they're talking about many things, but it seems like everybody's even among Republicans are all split, but they they want to cut that. Some are suggesting cut it to about $400 a week. Others suggested to go down to $200 a week. Extra. Well, they're gonna have to raise taxes big time eventually. Yeah, For now they're not talking about raising taxes, healthy pay for all this. Are they not going to pay for all this? You just roll up the It's just imaginary money. Like when you print imaginary money. I guess there really You're not even borrowing money here. They're just they're just making it up. So you don't have to pay that back, huh? There are roughly 17 million Americans out of work 11% unemployment rate nationwide. As you know, in California, many millions out of work. In fact, there are still many thousands who can't get any money. And over our employment Development department and people are getting worked up because in just a few days, that's $600 a week expires. See 600 extra. Yeah, well, I mean, if they're going, how about just opening everything up? Uh, if there is that, Oh, yeah, well, I would solve all the problems right? I mean, all the stores. All the restaurant just opened in the workplace is everybody goes back to work, and then you don't have to sit here worried about you know the California unemployment hotline, not working. The federal money running out. What are we going to dio How we're gonna pay for this? People can't get through on the hotline. All these stupid problems. The government can't handle all this. They can't handle it. So let everybody go back to work. You want it to look like January again? Yeah. Ooh! Interesting I and if you know if you're not with masks and social distance again, Okay, Well, that's what we should do right? The masks and the distancing work, don't they? Getting mixed message doesn't worker, doesn't it? Well, I mean, it depends on who you ask, but I just have this uptick in cases people think. Well, you could say it's not working. But then there were people think there are enough people doing it. Well, Obviously, there's tons of people not wearing masks, and certainly people aren't wearing masks privately at all these gatherings. No, I don't understand. I don't understand. You people believe in the masks and the distancing or don't they? And if you do, then everybody, Everybody does it. Well, you could enforce that at work. Like 90. We need herd immunity with that its herd immunity we need signing over 70. 80 90% of people do it. You better sacrifice another animal that back for the vaccine gods that I mean, I can't wait to people return to more places than you have fights over. It's not something that we're in a mask in the hallway or Abby. Great. Somebody. I want to see that we had that story last week where we've already had this experience in a few states and people are setting up barriers around their cubicles, something ninnies in the world, putting a paper plate senses. It's just so many and they don't know that they're that They're that they're ninnies. That's it's fascinating. I don't know. You know, they don't know that they're ninnies. So I just think that there there's so many opinions about and there's also a discussion as to how much to give him the stimulus money and people who are left out the first round. Can they be included in this round? Here you go. This is this is the my planning, cobalt cobalt Landa. You wear a mask? You do the distancing and you go to work. And then we don't have to. Ah, have Ah Unemployment hotline and we don't have to have the stimulus checks. But then we're going to keep hearing about grim milestone because cases will mount Not know you're wearing a mask and you're keeping in the distance. Far way. If that worked, they have to Then you get tossed out on the street because that was the theory when they locked us down completely for those months, But am I right? They put out the message. You can start to go out. But where your mask and socially distance and then in the cases of mounted because apparently a lot of parts in worsening and control that At the office. You can control the people. You have to wear the mask and distance. And if you don't you go home. You're fired. Baby. You know you enforce discipline like you gotta wear pants to work. Same room..
