"Tool. Though there appears to be some bipartisan consensus regarding the need for the United States to keep up with this emerging global trend, multiple American lawmakers, including emmer, have voiced concern that the fed or the broader U.S. government could manipulate, control over a digital currency to gather sensitive transaction information previously held by private companies or unavailable due to the proliferation of cash. So, as you can see, the next 12 to 20 months with a huge election year ahead will be extremely crucial for the cryptocurrency industry and the United States. And if you haven't yet, check out this video about how this could be the perfect storm of events for crypto by clicking on the link above. Amazing. So in the news, it seems like we've still got some polar opposite opinions about whether we are currently in a recession, a recession is coming. Every session is almost over, or that the entire global financial system is on the brink of collapse, as the number of banks facing a liquidity crunch is growing. So with the Federal Reserve continuing to increase interest rates, making it more expensive to borrow money, more and more people and companies are starting to default on their loans. And as we've been discussing on the channel, the fed will only stop raising rates once they hit their 2% inflation target or whatever they possibly might change their target too, or until they break something big in the economy, which could be closer to happening than most people think if banks are having liquidity issues. And something most people don't realize is that if the fed does end up causing a major financial collapse, banks are legally allowed to seize all of your money in your bank account. Scary. So if we are on the brink of a financial meltdown, a widespread banking collapse could happen, which means any cash we keep on our bank accounts could be at risk of forfeiture. What can we do to mitigate this risk? We need to diversify. So if you're in crypto and have diversified maybe into the stock market or real estate, consider adding a completely uncorrelated asset class, like works

"Reminiscent of the rhetoric coming out of places like the reserve Bank of India, who are trying to build a digital rupee specifically to have the benefits of digital currency while actually stamping out the need and demand for cryptocurrencies as well. This is an argument effectively that crypto is at worst a national security risk and at best a force that makes U.S. economic power in the form of sanctions more toothless because of the way that it allows sanctions of vaders to use crypto to get around those restrictions. Therefore, so the argument goes, the U.S. should have a CBDC. That would allow us to ensure that the digital currency that wins the day would not be able to do that sort of undermining of U.S. economic policy. Now we haven't got to the point where official arguments are being made that brazenly yet. But perhaps this is what's happening behind closed doors. Perhaps these sort of arguments have more force behind them more momentum behind them than we actually know. And perhaps that's why people like Tom emmer are being so aggressive right now when it comes to trying to use legislation to actually limit what the government can and can't do Vis-à-vis a CBDC now while it's unlikely to be a major political issue in the upcoming election cycle, there is at least one candidate. The upstart anti woke activist Vivek ramaswami, who is making opposition to a CBDC a central part of his campaign. He gets enough traction. It's not impossible that major candidates will have to actually address this. Anyways, guys, interesting times for sure, and as weird as it seems, given how much is happening, we might actually be in the quiet period as relates a digital dollar and a U.S. CBDC debate. Anyways, for now, I appreciate you listening as always and until tomorrow be safe and take care of each other. Peace

US Rep. Tom Emmer Introduces Bill To Stop CBDCs
"8 a.m. Friday February 24th, 2023. U.S. representative Tom emmer introduces bill to stop CBDCs. There is a hypothesis that the Central Bank digital currency, or a CBDC, will pave the way for the end of civil privacy when all transactions are put under surveillance. The U.S. fed has put great effort into exploring a digital dollar, but some members of Congress think issuing a CBDC might not be a the post U.S. representative Tom emmer introduces bill to stop CBDCs appeared first on blocking only.

"So they want this to kind of be something that incubates within coinbase and they want to see the spring the next million daps. And billion users into the space. They hope this is going to really do it. What they've made very clear to me when they were talking to me is that this is not going to come with a token. Because yesterday, of course, some of the theories that were flying around is that, okay, wind token. This is going to be a token job. Here comes the AirDrop. They say there's not going to be a token. And that's kind of interesting because all the other layer twos do have a token. This is kind of how some of them incentivize people to build in their ecosystem is that you get tokens sent to you if you're testing code on their testnet and things like that. But they say they think they can do it with a different incentive model and they say base is going to be so good. So competitive that they're not going to need a token to drive activity there. So just so everybody knows a layer two using makes a network faster and cheaper. And this is why they are adding this to it. Just to make it faster, cheaper, easier to develop. Is that it? Yeah, so the way layer twos work is basically they batch transactions. They get settled off chain on a different chain, not on Ethereum, and then essentially what are receipts get sent back to Ethereum. I think it takes about a week for them to get back. And that's just because the parties have about a week to kind of contest, you know, what's actually transacted. But it basically just makes things faster and cheaper, which of course for the end users is good. You don't want to pay high fees for transactions. Right. An article dropped by our colleague, Andre. He's dropped an article that says coinbase not throwing in the towel on NFT marketplace despite weak volume. Does this have anything to do with that? As far as I know, no, it doesn't, although they did say that base is going to be the home for all their on chain products. So it sounds like this is going to be the home for that NFT marketplace. How much longer that marketplace is alive, I don't know. I know that they've said it's kind of like zoom down the team there and stuff like that. So it's hard to say. I would say volumes there have been pretty low for a while. It's not clear what they're actually going to do with that. Understood. Stacy, thanks for very much for writing this up and coming on and talk to us about it. Sure. Thank you. Speaking of coinbase news, coinbase signal yesterday that they're not going to back away from its NFT marketplace anytime soon. Despite basically no volume over the past week coinbase NFTs only seen around 41 sales or less than three F and volume or $4900. This seems like bad news, but coinbase had a kind of a bit of bad news in the past couple months. Last month it said it was going to release around 950 employees and then had a second round of layoffs for around 1100 employees. But at the same time, profits were up in Q four of last year fear uncertainty and doubt spread across the crypto community yesterday as news spread of an apparent outage on the polygon network. Amen tweeted why is no one talked about the fact that polygon's last block was two hours ago. Big Brennan tweeted. The fact that polygon is literally down right now is an absolute undeniable truth. There is a literal exodus of debs to Solana. Check the dev growth. Oops. Well, looks as though it was an overreaction. Polygon didn't ask spirits any outages, and they did not experience any outage and processing blocks. The spokesperson for polygon said, black production never stopped. However, there could have been some degradation of the network performance temporarily. Those nodes have resync and the systems are back to normal. The panic appears to have come from an outage on poly skin. It's an independent chin explorer that monitors and analyzes activity on polygon. Polygon, they're not taking the criticism lying down. They shot back at Solana. They said, sirs, do not panic. This is not Solana. In reference to Solana, often, going down. So the past couple of days we've been talking about blur. It's a marketplace for NFTs. Just came out. And one of the cofounders has doxxed himself, but only after crypto Twitter has began piecing things together of who he was. His name is, and I'm going to mess this up horribly, TA shun, root care. He prefers to go by PacMan though. Obviously, because nobody can pronounce his name, not even me, I know I messed it up, but I'm sorry about that. I clearly find it on a line. Anyway, he's a 24 year old who worked as a software engineer at the ecommerce site teespring. And then dropped out of high school. He cofounded strong into and took it to Y Combinator. He did a two year stint at MIT or the Massachusetts of institute of technology. And then he dropped out after two years. He found crypto domain startup name base, which he raised $5 million for, and then sold it to name cheap within three years. Pretty impressive. Blur noun commands 80.6% of the market share of NFT exchanges while open sea takes about 14.5 based on trading volume anyway, this marketplace came from nowhere. And now they're absolutely killing it. And finally, Tom emmer, when the Congress is most vocal cryptocurrency advocates, introduced legislation yesterday. Seeking to borrow the Federal Reserve from issuing a Central Bank digital currency or CBDC directly to individuals. He says that this would erode Americans right to financial privacy. Time emmer said this, end quote. Any digital version of the dollar must have hold our American privacy values. Individual sovereignty and free market competitiveness. Anything less, opens the door to the development of a dangerous, surveillance tool. And I am very happy that he says this. I'm very happy that there's legislators out there paying attention to this move of CBDCs. And wanted to protect your privacy. The thing is, is you guys know me politically. I don't know if I really believe or agree with time member most of the time. But I swear he is like one of the only voices in Washington that is advocating for American privacy that's trying to uphold the constitution, things that I think this country was founded on. And it's just impressive that we have a couple of individuals like there. I just hope that people are paying attention in Washington. I hope that people are paying attention about this whole CBDC thing, because I swear it is going to be a very dangerous tool. If you make the tool if you build this weapon and it will be used as a weapon, they will use it as a weapon. They say right now it's going to be better for taxes or moving money around, make the dollar more competitive, but it's only a matter of time until it's turned against us. It's only a matter of time until our data is just sold like crazy and it's monitored 24/7. Maybe monitoring real time and figuring out how to sell to us. At the moment, or market to us at the moment. Or just flag things that we're buying. Maybe insurance company says, oh, he's buying soda pop again, or bacon, I love bacon, or bacon, it's bad for your health. Insurance premiums go up. Imagine that. If they know where you're buying, so they can adjust your car previews or a service premiums, your life insurance, that's just not right. And I can see that happening. All right, SEC crackdown on Gemini late to the game. Congressman Tom emmer, once again late to the game, arguing that the after the effect enforcement actions against Jim 9 its own product aren't in users best interests. I mean, he is definitely correct there. Went on to say it protects no one and then better approach of political regulation through enforcement hurts every day Americans in a statement, gensler said the set of changes looks to make clear to the marketplace and investing public that crypto lending platforms and other intermediaries need to comply. With the time tested securities laws. Yeah, test it for orange groves, 90 years ago, but these are time tested principles, okay? For things that are in grapes of wrath novel. But it's still time tested, all right? That's the important thing there. But I will say, Tom emmer, he is one of the people fighting for the people. Do you have any opinion on Tom emmer or you're a little more politically present than I am when it comes to these individual members of Congress? Dude, I'm stoked out and Tom emmer. I'm majorly stoked on Tom emery and I think that another good one with another go to enroll. That was a good one. Yeah, there's some missing parts of gensler's schedule that I'm hoping that emmer holds onto and kind of goes after because the transparency side of gensler's meetings with FTX hasn't fully come out and he's really pulling and pulling at those strings. He's going to be able to find some things out. So he's one of the ones that I have faith in. Yeah, yeah, there's a few still working further constituents. I know that such a crazy thing to think about. Yeah, there's still people, some people in there, you know, they're fighting for the people. And so we love it. Faux cheesy. Thank you radio face. "Now that the rules are in place here, they got the made good on the promise on the IRS legislation, Laura, what's next? Whether it's a messaging bill or a real bill. What's the agenda look like the next few weeks? We're going to see a lot of oversight of the IRS. Again, Republicans, they don't have the Senate with them, but what they can do is they can haul in the IRS commissioner. There's currently someone who's just in the acting role right now. The Senate is gearing up to confirm someone, but in his adjacent Smith statement yesterday, announcing that he had been selected. He said to Danny wurf, who Biden's nominee, expect to spend a lot of time up here, testifying in front of the committee. They're very keen on looking into any targeting the IRS may have done of conservative nonprofit groups, remember back to a couple of years ago there was that pro public leak of some of the richest Americans. They wanted to get to the bottom of that. And they also, one of the things that we may see, we saw Donald Trump's tax returns at the end of last year. Now that Republicans are in control, they have that same power to go request tax returns of any taxpayer. So we could see that of Biden or some of Biden's allies. Joe Biden has this returns publicly released, but other Democrats that they want to target. They could do that as well. Well, I'll tell you. How's this new majority dealing with the media? Is it too early to tell or are you getting what you need? Still too early to tell, you know, some of these new chairman, I've only been in the role for 24 hours or less. But we saw a lot of last week played out in public. You know, we had the C-SPAN cameras that were zooming in on these conversations happening on the floor. A lot of this played out in public. So so far, it's been a really interesting time. And we've had a lot of access. It sure has. I understand Matt Gaetz has legislation up to keep the cameras keep the cameras going because they're already back to the normal C span, you know, one way view. Laura, thank you for being here, great job, Laura Davis and always a pleasure to speak and listen to Tom emmer, which we were talking about the chair of the ways and means committee. There were a lot of questions about whether some of these were doled out in the deal making behind the scenes without anyone's knowledge throughout the caucus other than these 20 people who were voting against Kevin McCarthy congressman emmer was helping to run these talks. It was his office they were using as kind of a central point of negotiations. He's part of the Republican leadership was asked about it today. He made it very clear that there were no gavels given out. There were no deals like that that were made. This is, I think it's more than just aspirational. I think it literally is something that the entire conference is going to want to hold ourselves to and frankly hold our partners on the other side of the building to. But I wouldn't call it an addendum because that was the confusion yesterday. We were voting on a rules package, he was talking about reports as well that they had an addendum separate to the rules package that included the chairs. It was just for the insiders that nobody knew about. And we haven't really had very good answers to some of these questions yet. I don't know if Rick and Jeannie feel differently about this. Rick Davis, Tom emmer says there was no addendum. There were some sideline agreements and apparently that was shown on a screen today in the caucus meeting with Kevin McCarthy, but there is still quite a bit that we don't know about for a party that's striving for transparency. No? Yeah, I mean, I've seen a lot of reporting around the quote secret addendum. Which makes sense. I mean, of course they have all kinds of agreements that they don't circulate when they're cutting deals like this. And when congressman Tom Cole, who is in the know and is very savvy, says, yeah, I've been reviewing the secret agreement all day. Yeah, there's probably a secret agreement, but it sounds like from the reporting that it's all the stuff we already know. So I guess that's the form it came in. And if there's any pushback to it, I haven't really heard. You know, I think if you hadn't seen it, you're a member of Congress who's out of the know and you've got to get you've got to get a better access. But I don't think it's going to substantially change anything. Deals are done all the time for chairmanships. Deals are done all the time. You know, for specific pieces of legislation. And specific benefits to a member's district. So this is all sort of, I think, more typical of how the House of Representatives runs itself. And I think we'll just see more and more of that sort of getting out because if it's written down, the one thing for sure in Washington is that it'll be published. Yes, right. And one thing that was actually written down here and we've talked about a bit Genie is getting more members of the freedom caucus on the rules committee. I don't know if it's for what final number they came to here, but how does that change the contours of the house and the types of bills we're going to see? Well, we understand it was three, and you know, it does change to a certain extent because it essentially at three. So the rules committee is 13, 9 of those are Republican. If three go for the freedom caucus, essentially those conservatives, some of them were never Trump never never Kevin McCarthy people until they were. They have a veto power in terms of deciding what gets done in the house, what gets to the floor. So they do have a good amount of power. I mean, it's not something we hear an awful lot about, you know, just sort of and regular sort of news cycles because it's not all that interesting, and it is kind of mundane, but it does give them an awful lot of power. And you know, as we were talking about sort of this finding religion on this issue of spending, that can be a big, big challenge for the House Republicans politically if they are pushed in the direction of

"And not been more wrong. So that was wrong. So you were a super cyclist. I mean, dude, we had just broken off into all time highs. We had just hit all time highs and the momentum was continuing. I had the 8th to ten K mine site just like everyone else. I was dishing out that Kool-Aid. But you said it this way, which is different. The bear market never comes. Bear market definitely comes. My next comment was crypto newbies care less about centralization worries. And I'm claiming victory on that one because what did we learn? Celsius, FTX, exchange is blah, blah, blah, blah. But I'm also betting on the complete opposite for 2023. So I'm going to take the victory on that one. The merch happens. I got that one, right? Eth competitors try to fix their monetary supply schedules. I have not seen any lick of that whatsoever. All of these it's still not. It's still not. Yeah, I'm claiming all of these eth competitors still have currently. Their heads buried in the sand about their oversupply of block space and therefore oversupply of token issuance schedules. Solid fee markets arise on an eth competing chain that did happen for a moment on avalanche and then it went back to zero. My next prediction was optimism and arbitrum developed into thriving metropolises. And I think that happened, definitely. Big time. And I also thought that EVM equivalents will push optimism into dominance, didn't happen in 2022, but I'm still holding out for this one. I think EVM equivalents is the long game and optimism has been pioneering that. NFT flipping, you lose steam, definitely did. And yeah, definitely did. Retail round out of money, so it became less profitable for everyone. I made a claim that rye receives adoption tailwinds. This was during inflation, big inflation moments. And so I said, as a result of inflation will receive adoption tailwinds, I will say that right certainly received mind share adoption, but that did not translate into reality at all. Unfortunately, because it's a really cool project. Yeah. Board apes flips punks. I predicted that. And I also linked a link to a video because why did board apes flip punks? Because security like properties. Did I just trigger a bunch of board apes, then go watch the video that's linked in the release that we're talking about right now. Web three will become adopted as a household name. That kind of happens, but not really in the way that I wanted it. Yeah. It's definitely a household name. And then the last three predictions I made. The bank list meme picks up speed. That happened because of FTX. So thanks for that. Politicians rise to defend web three protocols. Tom emmer and pat toomey shout out to you guys for helping me be right on that one. And then bank list keeps delivering. This was when I was in control over. And so that's a free space. And we got a lot of things coming out more.

"We get a shot at the truth of what happened and Steve McClure tweeted a statement implying that SPF's parents shouldn't be allowed to put their home as collateral on the 250 million bell as the home was bought with stolen, FTX funds, makes a great point, quoting him here. So SPF to his parents, who bought a home in Bahamas with stolen FTX funds, will use their other home as collateral on the $250 million bail, and some Twitter users also found that amusing that SBS bail conditions did not restrict him from using a computer whilst being released on bail as David Schwartz shares here, so SPF is out on bail, has no restrictions on his use of computers and follows me on Twitter, awkward. So there you have it. And I actually want to ask everyone here. What are your thoughts surrounding him being basically released on bail? Also keep in mind that obviously just because the bail was 250 million how it works with the court system, you only have to pay 10%, which is still a hefty number, considering the large amount because that would be what's 10% of a quarter $1 million, we're still talking about obviously more money than what the property that the bank freed's parents put up as collateral is worth. So I'm very curious to know who are these mysterious donors who allowed him to get out on bail, given up the money because I don't think the house was enough as obviously as collateral. So it'll be interesting to uncover and as I find out more, I'll be keeping you all up to date with the latest of what's going on as the saga continues to unfold. And as plan B points out here, Bitcoin has never been weaker, the relative strength index right now is at a 40.5 and I shared with you breaking news that Gary gensler is being called out by the congressman Tom emmer for a shady involvement with SPF and FTX, so kudos to Tom emmer. And I also shared that unfortunately the Guggenheim CIO had died of a heart attack, and according to this tweet, he was actually working out and I believe he was 64, 65 years old. So some are saying this sudden death syndrome could have potentially been from a jab, but at this time it's all speculation, but what I do know is Guggenheim, which the company that he was the CIO for has $325 billion in assets under management. So this is another billionaire unfortunately biting the dust as many crypto specific billionaires have been mysteriously dying. So just makes you really, really wonder.

Charlie Welcomes Terry Schilling of the American Principles Project
"Welcome back to the program. Hey, thanks so much for having me, Charlie. So Terry, there's a lot of news to go through here and Terry, you run the wonderful American principles project to do a great job. Talk about some of the work you did this last cycle first. Well, we were up and running in several of these battleground Senate states, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, even and we were running campaign as educating American people, the American people about the threat to our kids, especially as it comes to transgenderism. We ran a lot of ads on women's sports. But this year we did something new that we haven't done before. We ran ads educating Americans about these transgender surgeries, the hormone treatments, and just the overall gender indoctrination that the left is doing to our kids in schools, and we produce really powerful ads. Charlie, we spent almost $15 million this cycle. It's something I'm really proud of because frankly, and I think you probably don't aware of this. The pro family movement has done a lot of great things and been good at a lot of things, but they've retreated from the political battlefield. And that's what we do in American principles project is be fill that political gap for the family. And we win campaigns and elections for them. So we're still reading on the results for how the impact that our ads had on the electorate. But we know that where the Republicans and the politicians that really leaned into these culture war issues and went on offense, they won by huge margins, right? Like look at Ron DeSantis, he won by barely half of a percentage point in 2018. He takes on Walt Disney corporation of all people. And wins by almost 20 points. Mike dewine in Ohio signed a heartbeat bill into law. He wins by 35 points. These guys that actually went into the culture war and led on this stuff. They were rewarded handsomely at the polls. And we need to get rid of the Mitch McConnell's of the world and the mccarthys and the Tom emmers, and we really need to start rewarding our guys when they fight for us because these guys want to keep us from fighting. It's been a disaster.

"I wanted to show a tweet right here from edit Snowden. And it's kind of interesting. It begins. I thought that was just pure and simple. Let me zoom up on that guys. This came in from watcher guru just in, obviously, Dana's talking about Mastercard Wells Fargo, Citigroup and others launching a 12 week experimental digital dollar pilot under the New York fed. All right, so you've got I mean, whether you like Snowden or in his antics or not, the point is, is that he draws attention to these kinds of scenarios in so many ways that this has been a really kind of a destiny for what eventually would happen with traditional finance. And when you look at traditional finance on a global scale, the United States is by far the number one culprit of control of the global ecosystem. This only extends the length of the spider tentacles, so to speak. Into the crypto sector, which I think now they have the opening, look at what happened with SPF and FTX, this gives us the reason we're here to save the industry and keep everybody from getting hurt. In the future. We're here to save. We're under the guys. I picture Edward Snowden and asylum in Russia, sneaking out of his Faraday cage and putting his battery in his phone. To write that tweet. All right, so some of you guys might even may not know what a fair new cake is. But a fair day meaning the ability to transmit without being notified or somebody knowing where you are geolocation wise when you bag it and you guys know that. If you're into the conspiracy theories, you'll know what fair. He's really serious about security, really, really serious about it. Yeah. All right, so another stories, other stories you had were some political moves on the horizon. Republican Tom emmer is bullish on digital assets to fight FTX. Yeah. Now we've had Tom on the show before. He made the house whip. So story right here, downplays FTX meltdown. Cheers crypto. Now this is this right here. I want you to hold this story for a second, guys. What that headline right there on coin desk is doing is pitting the political parties at each other. Tom emmer is a Republican out of Minnesota, gets the whip. U.S. House whip, which is a big position really from the Republican Party now that GOP owns the house. And for this kind of title. First of all, I think it's irresponsible to put these kind of titles out even though I know we do it all the time on YouTube in the lure, but coindesk, I'm looking at it and saying, all right, this is pitting dams versus obviously GOP. And you look at what emmer has really, his whole position is not cheers, crypto. It is let innovation win.

"Emmer staff to try and get him on the show to talk more about this. But he retweets Gary gensler's tweet about joining squawk CNBC. And Tom emmer representative Tom emmer says, interesting. Gary gensler runs to the media while reports to my office alleged he was helping SPF and FTX work on legal loopholes to obtain a regulatory monopoly. We are looking into this. That is all we know at this time. It was the fear of the crypto industry that SPFs work in D.C. was to specifically produce regulatory for FTX by closing the door behind them after making sure that whatever they were doing was legal. Even closing the door on all of DeFi. On DeFi, right? And so Tom emmer says that they had reports that Gary gensler and SPF were working to create legal loopholes to create a regulatory monopoly. I hope we can get Tom hammer on the show to talk about this soon. That is interesting. I don't have any problem with that tweet. The collapse of one of the largest crypto platforms show how much of the industry appears to be smoke and mirrors. That's what FTX was. It was smoke and mirrors. And so I do not have a problem with that. We need to be more aggressive enforcement and keep pushing the SEC to enforce laws to protect if this means that we are forcing the SEC to do more. Great. Fine. I do more that's helpful to do that prevents the actual problem. It's definitely a problem if Gary gensler is kind of setting up a monopoly for crypto bankers like SPF and using regulatory power to do that. Brian Armstrong's response to Elizabeth Warren right under this tweet I thought was good too. He says FTX was an offshore exchange, not even regulated by the SEC. Elizabeth, the problem is that the SEC failed to create regulatory clarity here in the U.S., so many American investors and 95% of trading activity went offshore. Punishing U.S. companies for making this for this makes no sense. And that is actually the facts of the case. It wasn't FTX U.S., which was more regulated in the U.S. which is fine. If you have assets in FTX U.S., you are fine. So if you're an American and you're using FTX U.S., you're totally fine. All deposits are there withdrawals are enabled. And that's like 1% of all of the minority of the business because it's pushed out. It was pushed out, but also because they could actually take customer deposits and go gamble them if they were not inside of the United States. Right.

"I don't even, by the way, I think we should be talking about security of individuals like that publicly, though, I think there are things that we have to do, but I think all of us, I am going to tell you, I was horrified. When I have been very careful to not attack people directly though, I think there are some people we should hold accountable for the words that they're doing every day. But a tweet shooting a gun and saying fire Pelosi is not the right message. We should be sending to anybody right now. Nor should anybody be defending that. We all have to think about all of us as leaders to understand words have consequences, actions have consequences, and as leaders, we need to be dialing it down while we're raising down the level, not inflaming it with kerosene. And by the way. She's my constituent. And there are people that have gone after her, and heart said that is wrong. It is not right. You should not ever threaten any human being. Well, Tom roemer was Tom Emma rather was pretty incredible to watch on CBS over the weekend as well, deflecting on that very issue that you mentioned, the tweet that the one you're referring to, right? Yeah, it was. I mean, I didn't even say his name, but I didn't know he had done that, quite frankly, until after I saw the program. And it's really, we need to understand each of us. Each of us has responsibility to think about the consequences of our words, and our actions. And quite frankly, we're not going to, I think my colleagues, every one of them needs to think about what they're saying, and there are some that are very deliberately inflaming of being inflammatory, but I believe it's going to happen at the local level when people start standing up and saying, we are not going to tolerate this. We have to stand up to hate. Well, I do want people to hear a piece of that conversation again. This is with Tom emmer and Margaret Brennan on CBS face the nation and it's an important element of the story that we're talking about here, congresswoman. Let's listen. Because in this bulletin it also talks about a linkage in drawing an undermining confidence in elections because of 2020. This was a portion of the conversation about confidence and elections here now about the posting of him firing a gun with the hashtag fire Pelosi. I know, and I would love to talk about something other than people being worried for their lives. But unfortunately, that's where we are. I want to ask you about this when it comes to political violence. On your Twitter feed, you posted this video. We're going to show just a few days ago where you're firing a gun and it says enjoyed exercising my Second Amendment rights. Hashtag fire Pelosi. Why is there a gun in a political ad at all? I wasn't an act. I was tweeting out sexy Pelosi with a weapon. Well, when you pink slip, be more fitting if it's about firing her. I'm not sure if the host ought to be suggesting what to post here, a congresswoman, but you have made the point that that does go too far. We found the line, right? For me, that's the line. I think there are other lines as well. But that is really the picture of that gun and the phrase fire. And the mood that we know that people are in. And that there are some, I mean, there really angry people out there. I mean, I posted a Facebook page, the sort of blog yesterday. I didn't go after anybody. I just said, we all got to think about what we're doing. And the kind of hate that came back, the kind of, you know, the conspiracy theories, the conspiracy theories are also adding to this and putting kerosene on. And people believe it. So yeah, you know what? I will go after somebody. I think the new owner of Twitter's got some responsibilities too and was horrified that he would participate in some of this conspiracy. There is no fact to it. No truth to it. Pretty fascinating when the new CEO of Twitter is deleting his own tweets with an hour's like that congresswoman, are you concerned about the temperature rising more following next Tuesday night? It's been pretty clear to us here at Bloomberg that a lot of voters are not prepared for the fact that these races, we spend so much time talking about, particularly in the Senate, are not going to be decided by the next morning, or even the next day or maybe even that week. That's the environment that caused a lot of trouble in 2020. I am concerned about it. I don't want people to be afraid to go to the polls. Law enforcement and clerks, Republican and Democrat are working to make sure that people are safe at the polls and that every vote is going to be counted accurately and honestly. And I do believe that the vast majority of elected officials, the clerks who are responsible for conducting elections or trying to prepare people that for a variety of reasons, we are not going to know when a number of states who the winners are that night. And I think all of us, I can't count on some of my some people that I know who are likely going to be out there fanning fires, but I hope that people who listen to your show and people across America are going to stand up when they see people trying to be intimidate, try to cause trouble to say, we're not going to let you do that. We're not, this is not going to happen. This is not going to happen in our community, our state, our country. 8 days to go here, Congress, or one of the polls wrong about Democrats losing the house. Well, first of all, the only poll that matters is the poll on election day, too. Everybody in the world told me I was crazy when I told them that Donald Trump was going to win in two 16. And I still may be crazy. He did win. And I'm going to tell you right now, I have a good gut a meter. I have been right in many elections so people listen to me, you know, I really warned people about two 16 and unfortunately was right. But I don't think the selection is broken. I think there are a lot of different issues that people have very mixed feelings about. There are many races that are appoint up a point down the razor edge races and I think this race is in elections across the country are just breaking now and I don't trust any poll, let alone the polls right now. And I still think there's a good chance Democrats could keep the house, but I think whatever is

The Charlie Kirk Show
How Do We Take Out the Republican Establishment?
"Lot of you email us repeatedly freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com Charlie. How do we take out the Republican establishment? Look, the Republican establishment, they've been there for quite a while. They have been very powerful. They raise a lot of money from corporate interests. So we need to pick our fights wisely. And a winnable fight and the first kind of step to being able to take back the Republican Party is to excommunicate one of the worst members of the House someone who has voted for all of the rhino policies challenging Donald Trump at every single turn. This guy proposed centering Donald Trump over January 6th. He voted for the COVID-19 hate crimes act, which would allow the Department of Justice to have more power. He voted yes on the LGBTQ business equal credit enforcement and investment act. He has an he only has an 80% reading rating from the ACU, the same as Liz Cheney, there are hundreds of Republicans with higher ratings. So this guy, he went after Donald Trump for foreign aid and all of this, but he's a very powerful person. And he runs an organization called the NRCC, the national Republican congressional committee. Now they raise a ton of corporate money to go help certain candidates. But guess what? They go help the rhinos and the moderates over helping the grassroots conservatives. And so the NRCC he's the chairman of the NRCC is kind of the establishment machinery. Now this guy, his name is Tom emmer. You probably never heard that name for you. Who's Tom emmer? You probably know at least stefanik or Kevin McCarthy or Steve scalise or Jim Jordan. You've never heard of Tom emmer. Tom emmer is one of the most powerful people in Washington D.C. you've never heard of. And Tom emmer is doing everything he possibly can to hold on to power.

"But that did set us back, did it not? And I know everyone wants to blame certain people for it. But we should be getting ready for next year, a college football expansion. And I'm not trying to dig up old bones, but it's still just pretty annoying, quite frankly, that we're having to layer all these conversations, but what should have already happened is still years away. Yeah, it is frustrating. You know, I wonder if and we're going to go back to having the same conversation when they get back in the room, I believe they're pretty much slated to get back to this at the beginning of next year the negotiations and all that kind of stuff. You know, by that point in time, maybe we'll have by that point in time we should have a Big Ten rights agreement. So we should understand how long the big trend is going to be. In place and what partners it will be in place with over at least a short term, because I don't think that deal is going to be a long one. I would expect maybe we get some more clarity on when Texas and Oklahoma are joining the league. I know everybody keeps telling me 2025 keeps telling me 2025, but we'll see. So it's almost like they put the cart before the horse and playoff expansion being imminent. And then they decided that it wasn't a good idea. And now they're pushing it out and you would hope you would hope that they're going to use the interim time to get some of the house in order with the other things that we've got to deal with in college football and college sports writ large, but then again, Paul, you've been doing this much longer time than I have, so you know that that may not be the case in actuality. So in terms of what's the sport needs to deal with, we know what it is, but is anything going to be done there and really a lot of this conversation is simply for nought, because unless I don't mean to answer your question, but what is going to change here over the next 9 months? There is going to have to be something regarding NIL. But I don't know what happened first. I don't know what the first domino is going to be to fall. Is it going to be something like the conference is saying, hey, we want more sway over this. And it's actually our responsibility. Is it something where a I think the least likely thing to happen is federal legislation? I think Congress has some bigger fish to fry these days. Or at least they should, but we both know how it goes as well. I don't know if student employees stop students. I've seen athletes as employees, I should say. I don't think that is imminent, but that is something that's kind of out there as well as something that could be happening. So my big thing with NIL is what if kind of the first thing that happened to kind of launch us into a new reality, obviously there is Mark emmer is leaving this time next year, you know, what needs to happen before a new NCAA president comes in. Will a new NCAA president come in and have a mandate to really fix things or even have the desire to fix things? Or will a new NCAA president just be an interim that they give a job on a semi permanent basis? There's just, I just don't know what's first here and it's sort of all these things jockey next to each other and because of that we don't really get anything done. RJ, it is great to have you here. Thank you. We have many more conversations ahead. We'll talk to you soon. Thanks again for dropping by. We're heading to a break now. And the phone number is 855-242-7285..

You know they don't usually get paid a lot of money but they really shuffle. Especially you know. When people are when we're seeing more and more people coming to bozeman emmer still dealing with the impacts of the pandemic. So what's going on with the because i go to nordic all the time and open till four now because they can't find workers and we have these restaurants have to move their hours around and it seems like nobody works but everybody who works and do you think is just because of the pandemic or something underlying there. I've read so many. I'm sure you have every like major. Every major publication is they had some sort of like opinion piece about what's going on every every economist has some opinion about why we're seeing you know these like worker shortages. I think in our community. It's a combination of people are really being pushed out in levels that we don't really understand yet fully there's people who depended upon who during the head of the pandemic week calls Essential workers Who were not really taking care of. And who can no longer afford seven bozeman. Who are making the move other places. That's one thing that's really sort of driving our experience. People having about like you know places that being able to opener find staff is also connected to just the shortage of housing. You'll be it's hard to recruit new workers come to bozeman if they look at the housing market and say i can't find somewhere to rent let alone by yeah And then i think there's this just acknowledgement that we have not treated many workers very fairly for a very long time until people who maybe are coming back to work or who have consider going back to work after the past eighteen months of the.

And that's it right so you've spent an hour and a half learning the world is ending and nobody's doing anything and you're supposed to plant a tree so there is this kind of like major major disconnect of Wait a minute. that's that's not gonna do it. That's not even close before the documentary. Mike thought we had time now. It seemed clear to him. We were just a few decades away from a radically different planet. Mike started pouring over climate research reading every day. He traveled to california to go to a training led by al gore himself or he learned to give a slide show about climate change when he came back from the training. Mike showed his kids aside. Show presented it at their schools. Amorous mike's older kid. Who by the way uses the pronoun. Stay them remembers being excited by that. This was in two thousand twelve ten at the time it felt like kinda like minor celebrity status right because my dad was a guest speaker than i needed. Everyone to know that like that was my dad. It's like you know the presentation we're having today. Yeah my dad's doing that. Like i heard the my dad's coming next week to do a presentation in class making us kids start climate clubs. Their schools also teaches emerson. Style of the slide show and they all start going around to teach it together. Both kids threw themselves into the work for the importance of the topic immediately resonated but stella who is eight had a much simpler reason. It was a way for me to get his attention. If i asked two question he would be paying attention to just meet rather than like the family which i guess is kind of selfish but blake at the time owes like dad. Look over here. I can ask questions about climate change. Smart news of mike slide show spread any started being invited to present other schools. Pretty early on. Mike decided that kids were the answer. His activism would focus on them. That was already a specialty as a therapist. Any figured children have the most at stake here. Opened the message and adults will be able to hear the science from them differently than the here from other adults so my first big step down that path. He organized a march with the national kid centered. Climate group called i matter. He says the seattle police gave the marchers fourteen motorcycle escort. Pike place market emerson's stella both spoke at the march. I'm said they'd never talked in front of so many people before he helped me write my speech in hanmi practice at a ton super excited to speak there. 'cause like everybody's attention was on me on stella younger one found all the attention a little overwhelming. The main thing i remember was like looking at my dad to kind of focus my days to steady. Yeah i really looked at him to kind of not freak out in this speech and all the ones after it emerson's that might give each of them specific roles to fill roles emmer says they naturally fit into stella. Was the one that would make the audience. Oh my gosh. She's so cute. Unstuck and i'm nine years old. And then i was the one who is supposed to make the audience go like. Oh okay. wow it was like a one two punch like stella disarm them and then you went in for the kill yob basically. Yeah i think. I was a little bit supposed to scare people act together and realized that each year is thirty. More years of floods by in the next stations for melinda watching mike and the kids give speeches and spend so much time together is really nice. They're having fun and working on something that felt so important. She wasn't around much to help. She had a big job at a telecommunications company. I thought i'd do some good old fashioned news. So this is one of those shows. That's roundup of about five topics. Basically extended brief. And i want to start with cryptos allies on capitol hill. We're so used to looking at regulatory risk in the loud politicians don't like bitcoin and crypto that we forget that this cycle has much stronger than we've had in the past. Here's one example yesterday representative. Tom emmer a republican from minnesota reintroduced legislation that would prevent the irs from penalizing taxpayers forked assets until the irs can provide clarity on its policies. Basically imagine that someone forked bitcoin into bitcoin alon rules and airdrop do your equivalent holdings on the new chain. But you didn't want the stupid. Bitcoin rules because he does not rule well according to guidance from october twenty nineteen the irs would say that your bitcoin ilan rules holdings would count as taxable income surprise surprise and other inland coin. Messing up your day. This approach says emmer and everyone in the crypto. Space is ludicrous. In fact it shows plainly that regulators can't just straight up apply existing thinking to this new domain now. This is the third time this legislation the safe harbor for taxpayers with forked assets. Act has been introduced. So let's hope this time it actually passes next up is long bitcoin. The most crowded trade in the world. According to bank of america's fund manager survey. The answer is yes. This is a poll of one hundred ninety four fund managers who represent five hundred and ninety two billion in assets more than forty percent of them say long. Bitcoin is the most crowded trade in the market. That's up from a little under thirty percent last month. Long tech and long. Es g both come in with over twenty percent of the vote as well short us treasuries even makes an appearance with around seven percent of the vote. This is getting some traction in the news because previous peaks have been associated with relative tops in other areas such as us treasuries in march of last year.

It's the opportunity to make money when third parties use their names and images. Mark emmer president of the ncaa would recommend college sports governing bodies. Ncaa property majority of athletes are minority and most of this revenue. That's being brought in by. These athletes is being redistributed to the coaches and the head administrations in these athletic programs. The fact that data's haven't been able to see any of this money is civil rights issue and went also driving the ncaa in this is the fact that many state legislatures have already passed or are considering laws that would allow student athletes to cash in on their talent and popularity

That said he was doing a good job and they were happy with him. Well hey it was interesting. Paul like he. There's a little bit like i know. I caught in the stock market. When when when the stocks keep going up they call it the goldilocks effect in in college. Athletics when someone who is perhaps not performing their job at a high level but still gets to keep their job is a similar thing. We're just all the all the factors surrounding them are in place so they can keep on going even if the results aren't there and we we saw you know most recently with larry scott out in the pac twelve where it was fairly unanimous Feeling amongst athletic director certainly in a lot of people out there that maybe it was time for larry to move on and he had a couple of key presidents especially the gentleman at arizona state and they make a crow who were were on his. We're on his side and he kept the job probably three or four years longer than maybe even more than that than than most people in that area would Would have thought he was going to in so the Mark emirate is that he is pretty much lost his constituency on the ground meaning he has lost the commissioners for shore at multiple commissioners going to estimate that least eighty five percent of them would like to see a change in the president's spot athletic directors. A little harder to judge. 'cause you're you're going from university of maine to miami and alabama you know eastern washington. "emmer" Discussed on KTLK 1130 AM
"Of 11 31 035 FM Your Friday edition of Justice Andrew continues on a little bit later this hour, 7 55, you will have represented Tom Emmer on the program. Talked him about the craziness that the capital are calling it an insurrection or cool or any of that nonsense. Just talk about the crazy date the capital and the certification vote that was held and we will be diving into and set this setting the stage for for some discussion on the real double standard taking place and drew. I know you found this of Of what woke journalists were comparing the last year summer Antifa riots to was the summer of love. There's a fantastic piece from daily wire from Matt Walsh. Democrats in the media want us to forget. They encourage the writing for months. We shouldn't so we're going to dive into a lot of that. Even as our own Minnesota reformer has gone all in on, you know what? Yeah, the accomplished the accomplices should be judged. They want They want the left to be judge, Jury and executioner on the last part on the what happened on Wednesday. We're gonna be joined by attorney Mike Patton here in just a moment to talk about this alibi. A drink re story, but we've had a couple calls have been very patient. Jason calling from Nebraska. Good morning, Jason. Going? How are you? Great. Thanks for calling in. I got a question for you because I'll tell you what number one. I'm disappointed at the wedding Things went. This election was stolen from US. Number two. The You know, the conservatives were not going to take it if they do go full blown on taking our guns, and if they come to small towns messing around, they're gonna meet a lot of resistance. I live in small town America and I'll admit that I'm blind. I was born three months premature, but I think that we might be on the way to a civil war and I'm not trying to incite violence. But I do believe that people need to wake up and grew up there. And I'm not afraid to speak. No, I can't see. I'm not afraid. Yeah, and you shouldn't be And And that's one of the one of the bedrock foundations that makes this country amazing is that you shouldn't have any fear of speaking your opinion, even if it is an unpopular opinion, well, and here's where you know here's where I kind of land on that. I don't have to do a I'll try to do Ah, short version. I don't think we're heading towards civil war, and I don't think we're heading towards civil war because you're not going to see conservatives doing what the left it all last year and encouraging more behavior of what took place in D. C on on Wednesday, right and we could have varying, you know, they're obviously are varying opinions about what went down on Wednesday. But the reality is no conservatives condemn rioting and violence in the streets. And you you don't see any further calls for action. What you didn't see last year. You didn't see last year when it came Tonto, Auntie for black lives matter or other agitators taking to the streets in in in our cities, and so you know, a civil war the way that we've seen it before. I just don't see it happening. Nor do I see the specific thing that he mentioned of coming to take all your guns. No, they're gonna push for gun controls like they always do. And it's always the piecemeal ng the the generic assault weapons and and the magazine clips and stuff like that. But like we like we talked about at length yesterday. They like the argument more than they actually like moving forward and every time that the the left has had all the power, you know, we saw what's happened in the past 48 hours and how they've hit the accelerator on the hypocrisy nonsense. When they get all the power, they do the same thing, and it doesn't usually work out in their favor. Alibi drink. Korean Lakeville has sort of become the poster child a twist in terms of media coverage for you know, restaurants and establishments defying governor walls is coat covert restrictions. They've certainly been the most high profile one. The media keeps going back to them over and over, you know, and then they're not the only one. But there they are. They have become sort of a center piece and the face of it and new story out of the Pioneer Press. The the state is going to find alibi drink. 3 $3000 every day that it remains open. Joining us now is the attorney representing alibi. Drink Re Mike Patton. Good morning, Mike. Thanks for coming back on the program. How you doing guys doing fantastic. So good, John. Oh, my God had a quick question. Just out of the gate is that is a $3000 Fine. Is that attached to something or is that just like an arbitrary just made up number? We'll just We'll charge you three grand orders that earth they're actually justification for that in some way. Well, the judge the judge signed an order. Actually, two orders. Uh And the judge had the discretion to Says a penalty for the notion that my client is in contempt of an order that said That she could not remain open. So the judge, this is the judge's sanction for that violation of that Make sense. Yes, sir. Yes, so the judge came up with it, But I want to be clear about something. There's aspects of this order that are positive. You know she's been open since New Year's and the judge could have applied retroactive penalties. He did not do that..

Airplane Geeks Podcast
Aviation Safety: Masks, Covid-19, and Airplanes
"You mentioned quarantining sometimes. Pretty stringent requirements. There's interesting article in from NPR. Do Masks on plane flights really cut your risk of catching covid nineteen and they tell the story of Hong Kong which apparently. Tests arriving passengers than requires that they quarantine for fourteen days and then test them again. And they've been looking at some data from the different airlines in what the results of the testing, the quarantining the re-testing have been. And they mentioned Emirates has particularly strict. Mask requirements that are enforced, and so they looked at while in one case over a three week period emmers had five flights. With, a total of fifty eight. Passengers. Who tested positive for corona virus. But none of the other passengers picked up the virus and there are some other examples like that as well and. What we're starting to see is some some data about the the safety of catching the virus on board aircraft and some of these these results are tending to point towards. You know it doesn't seem to be the Petri dish that you know some people were initially thinking and that was all the air changes and the the way the air is changed being pulled up and not blown across all of these things so that there's a lot of examples coming up where you know the indication is that it's It's pretty safe. So that's encouraging and I did my most recent airline Flight about ten days ago, which was the trip where I wasn't able to join you folks last week and you know my conclusion is that in general, it's not the the flight itself in the airline. That's the the problem. Especially, if you're diligent, you know with a mask, the problem to me appears to be terminals at hubs where you may be wall-to-wall especially for your. There on a Friday or something like that which is odd because some terminals you get to our empty others are quite crowded but I think even more than that. It's the you know having to go out and get food you know the restaurants. So I I think the you know when I'm on a trip I'm most concerned about going into a restaurant, which is why I only do take out and I don't have a problem with that. And so I've I've actually just decided that since it does look like there's a a a new wave that says spiking here in the US that I'm just going to postpone any further airline trips here for a couple of months because you know some of the rates and other other states are now significantly higher on a per capita basis in California and I'm just. Feeling like I'm gonNA stick a little closer to home now over the next couple of months. My comment was the flight is in communicates the airport I really think that that's what the studies are starting to show that you know I. Mean if wearing a mask yes. It's really important on the airplane, but it's even more important when you're in a confined space like an airport and as the weather gets colder here up north you know it's going to be tighter and. It wouldn't surprise me if they start closing down the restaurants in the airports the way I mean, I'm that'll be one of the first things to go will be the restaurants and you know it's just for everyone's safety and the air blinds aren't serving food anymore. So questioning about what you know what the infrastructure at the airports could look like you know it, it's going to be difficult well, and of course, some people are still refusing to wear masks on. Well daily on board but in the waiting area things like that, and of course, we know we've talked about the airlines have. Policies about requiring requiring masks and so forth. But some people are still refusing but max sounds like some airlines, IRV or or making lists and checking them twice. They are you don't want to be on the on the naughty list in I. Think a lot of people just think well, if I don't wear my mask, the worst that's going to happen as I get kicked off this flight and you know I'll just catch the next flight. Well, airlines are putting people on a no fly lists. Now, they haven't really said for how long you'll be on that list, but my guess is. Maybe through of the pandemic, which could be a year or more.

Intel’s unfixable chip flaw could give hackers access to encrypted data
"An unfixable flaw in nearly all intel chips released in the last five years has been discovered that allows sophisticated attackers to access the mask Rom. A piece of the chip. That boots the very first piece of CSM. Firmware and the vulnerability can't be patched with a FIRMWARE UPDATE. Quoting ARS TECHNICA. The flaw resides in the converged security and management engine a subsystem inside. Intel. Cpu's and Chipsets. That's roughly analogous to Ares. Platform security processor often abbreviated as CSM. This feature implements the firmware base trusted platform module used for silicon based encryption authentication of U. E. F. I. Bios firmware Microsoft System Guard and bit locker and other security features. The bug stems from the failure of the input output memory management unit which provides protection preventing the militias modification of static random access memory to implement early enough in the firmware boot process. That failure creates a window of opportunity for other chip components such as the integrated sensor hub to execute malicious code. That runs very early in the BOOT process. With the highest of system privileges quote this vulnerability jeopardizes everything until has done to build the root of trust and lay a solid security foundation on the company's platform. Mark Emmer lead specialist of hardware security at security firm positive technologies wrote any post detailing the bug quote. The problem is not only that it is impossible to fix firmware errors that are hard coded into the Mask Rom of microprocessors and chipsets. The larger worry is that because this vulnerability allows a compromise at the hardware level. It destroys the chain of trust for the platform as

Iran attacks Iraqi bases housing US troops in retaliation for Soleimani's death
"Breaking news out of Iraq where we have confirmation that Iran has launched missiles missile strikes to Iraqi basis at least two Iraqi basis that also house. US forces we have no confirmation yet of the assessment of damage or casualties around the state media is now saying that Eh. They launched these two rounds of missile strikes. And this is I think important and really actually crucial we think about this moment around saying there's no there's no retaliation for America For the latest attacks. Then they will stop attacking but if America tax than their response will be crushing and widespread. It seems to me that this is a calculation nation here by the Iranian regime. At least and getting to some point that does not further. Climb up the escalatory ladder that we have now been on for quite some time and is threatening to plunged the entire region into valuable war joining me now former Republican congressman from Oklahoma Mickey Edwards. Former chair of the House Republican Policy Committee and former Democratic Congressman from Maryland. Donna Edwards also with me Sam Cedar host the majority were podcast and MSNBC Contributor Angelina Maxwell host of signal boost on Sirius Xm and an MSNBC political analyst. Donna let me start with you the the way that we talk about. This tends to resolve revolve around the president. What decision when will he make? and WHO's influencing but America's democratic nation with the constitution that gives the power to declare war the the Congress United States represents this democratic nation. All of its citizens citizens should not be in the hands of one man particularly one man with the faculties that the current president has it seems to me extremely important that across Democrat and Republican particularly Democratic Party Democrat. Cows come out strongly to say no war with Iran. This is madness and do whatever they can to halt escalation is that a possibility ability as UCLA. I do think that there will be in there. Already have been tonight really strong voices coming from speaker. Pelosi herself that we do not want a war with Iran and very sadly this is so reminiscent of where we've been before and I think it's also important for the American American people to step up and declare that there should be no war with Iran and we are at a place where you know. There's a possibility that there could be some some de escalation but it requires seen voices and cool heads to preside both in the White House which I don't expect but certainly coming out with a strong voice from Democrats in the in the Congress and I would expect others who do not want to continue. You need to put service men and women in harm's way and to jeopardize the safety of of the American People Mickey you know there's been an interesting Fisher Asia and the Republican and Conservative collision on this question We we've seen it sort of break out in the open. Sometimes rampaul was on our air earlier. Senator from Kentucky urging us not to enter into worth around. There are some conservative commentators. WHO HAVE THE president's ear who also said the same? This seems to me kind of testing ground of that. What do you you expect to see from Republicans on the hill? Well if we stay with what they have been saying for. Many many years is that we should be very cautious. Che's about going into war but they're the bigger issue here is what you were talking about Chris. So I would hope that the congress is able to back the president op and not have is go into a major war but it's also important that Congress start reasserting its primacy in the field of international affairs primacy in in terms of deciding when we go to war because it's not just this war but with this man in the in the White House or frankly any president the idea that the congress would step by now. You were the democratic voice. Chris you've been talking about and that the Congress would back off and let any president just on his own whim or any other reason take take the country into war is unacceptable and it's time Republicans and Democrats both came together on that one issue. It just crazy to me to view what's happening right now. Does this thing that just happening out there. In the world like we're we live in a democratic society precisely so that we can exert some control and and that's part of constitutional designed by design the founders constitutional design that there are some democratic control. I mean the idea that regardless of what we have in terms of casualties that we must must respond is absurd. We have agency people are going to call for de-escalation. They're either going to call for now tonight or they're going to do it. Eighteen years from now after after what we've been in Iraq and so the bottom line is every single. Democratic presidential candidate should tonight come out and say no war with Iran every single member of the Democratic Caucus in the house and the Senate should be backing the bills by Tim Kaine am by Sanders and Kana in the House and stopping funding and stopping topping the legal auspicies for this war. Somebody's skills worse than Iraq because at least with the Iraq war in two thousand three there was a reason they put forward a reason season and so an American citizen say while there's WMD's now it turned out that that was a lie right but there wasn't articulated reason that the administration collectively is trying to put forward to tell the American people. This is why we're doing this. I have no idea why this is happening Chris. The American people likely do not understand why we are on on the brink of war with Iran and I agree with Sam. All of the Democratic candidates have a chance to step forward in this moment and show that they can be competent. They can be strong and stand on principle there. There is no reason for this and this moment we need to stay take a step back a giant step back over this cannot be a partisan listen moment the Republicans in Congress have to do the same thing. They took the same oath of office. They swore to uphold the same constitution and adjust having Democrats oppose. What's happening what the war is about without any information here but but they can't do it alone? Republicans have to say in this this case this is American lives at risk and we are going to take back the constitutional power. The Congress has the it can't be just a democratic down the the politics of of this which in some senses seemed secretaries. We await at this moment to find out if there were casualties. Both among the Iraqi against Iraqi servicemembers emmers on these Iraqi bases or American service members but of course the politics matter because the politics are part of what will produce the outcomes that happen and the decision that gets made. I mean again. This is all part of Democratic Self Governance. It does seem to me that the war weariness is very real thing it shows up in the polling. It showed up on the campaign trail. There's very very little appetite. Wait for a war with Iran. If you pull that question and even the airstrike against Sulejmani which a to my mind. Reckless escalation along this trajectory was was essentially partisan split. Like do you trust. The Democrats will have the courage of their convictions about how they navigate this. Well I have to say I mean I do you. I mean I remember you know the lead up to the Iraq war in two thousand and whatever it was three four and you know people believe the evidence that was in front of them. I never believed it. But even in the face of thousands and thousands of people taking to the streets still legislators felt a need to like go right up and march toward war. We cannot afford that to have that outcome again. And I think it's incumbent on members of Congress but the American people have to speak up and we know that they're worried because they wanted to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan in and out of the region all along now here. We are escalating again. And it's time to put a put the brakes on this coming. Both from the Congress in terms of them exercising their authorities Mickey had said but also coming from the American people saying we do not want another war in that region Gen Party. The ball is in the in the hands of the people themselves the power to declare war being Congress means that the people are supposed to make these decisions and this is what they have to show up a child meetings APP to contact their members of Congress and they have to be hurt and there should be a vote. I mean there's going to be a partner. Solution says there's going to be privileged privileged resolution and there should be there should be a vote in the United States. Senate absolutely not say I am struck by how many democratic politicians look I have very little expectations of Republicans at this point. I'm sorry about that but I am struck. By how few how how little maturation there seems to be when I look at the democratic accredit politicians who are coming out there and equivocating at this point because the American public has grown since two thousand two and to a certain extent I remember that time time vividly millions of people who are in those streets at that time and the fact is there was a lot of people who are shell shocked after nine eleven that Shell shock does not exist amongst the American American public anymore but you look at the eyes of a lot of these democratic politicians and they look like deers. If your headlights they need to lead to fight back against what is off. Obviously an attempt to draw this country into war by. Who's you know what who who's driving this bus? It's unclear but it but we cannot allow the the idea that the president of the United States can Willy Nilly create provocations. That dragged this country into this type of quagmire again. The American people have to understand why why we're entering into a military conflict. They don't know that tonight and that's a really big problem. And the communication here. I mean we just go back to say what the facts are on the ground in terms of the the latest loop. There was an attack outside Kirkuk a rocket attack there have been increasing rocketfire Adam at American forces from Shia militias in Iraq. Starting in October Tober Brett mcgurk said that hadn't happened. Eight years that part that itself was part of a escalatory cycle that started with the withdrawal from the Iran deal that kills an American American contractor back in December outside Kirkuk and killed an American contractor wounded several American service members there was a retaliatory strike by the US. It Killed Twenty five Shia militia militia members in Iraq and then that storm the embassy which was essentially disbursed with no casualties and then in response to that wildly provocative talkative s escalating act of taking out killing Qassem solely money. So that is that is the situation that has bras tonight to these reports of ground-to-ground missile. Fire from the Iranian government directed at Iraqi basis that whole both Amar Iraqi service members and American service members Donald. What do you think is happening right now? We have reports that Vice President Pence has briefed Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer Pelosi tweeted tweeted out. She's closely monitoring the situation falling bombings targeting. US troops in Iraq. We must ensure the safety of our service members including ending needless provocations

"When she calmed I reminded her of the new life. She faced living with cousins at beloved aunt and Uncle Her Ryan bedroom and soon she let go of my hand and demanded another big cone. Had it not been Emma. I reflected elected. I might have been a brand new widow. We've Amer is my soul charge. There were days when I wept wept for her as I wept for him then in the final weeks Amazon stepped up to offer her a place to live soon. Photographs of the cousins began arriving along with warm letters of welcome compounding confusion. She was torn between the lure of family life and I need to look after her father. I'd like to go. She said but I'll have to wait until daddy gets better off to have father's funeral. She began to chatter about cousins and make up details of the new life. CBS Sports Eye On College Basketball Podcast
Is the NCAA willing to go far enough on name, image and likeness rights?
"It was not an insignificant day on Tuesday for the history of College Athletics Not an insignificant day but is it reasonable to say not a significant as some people initially thought because I thought the incident way they're really good at this type of thing they wanted to create a headline and they created a headline and the way that the initial tweet that gets hit re tweet a million times is like the instable a board of governors votes unanimously that sounds great to allow student athletes to benefit from their name image likeness and people are like whoo finally this thing is happening and then you're like well let me click this Lincoln read more about it then read more about it and it's basically like the intimately board of Governors voted unanimously to allow student athletes to benefit from their name image and likeness but not in this way and not in this way and we're not going to go for that and we're not going to go for that and so they put so many guidelines or the or or go to try to keep so many guidelines in place that it doesn't open this up nearly as much as I would want a lot of would want California lawmakers would want and I really do think we can get into this momentarily it creates more issues that they'll have to deal with that they don't deal with now and I don't want to say it's impossible because I get frustrated when I hear inside officials say something is impossible it's not impossible figure it out so perhaps it's not impossible but it does seem very very difficult to try to thread this needle to thread we want to allow student athletes to benefit from their name would you like this rights like any other student athlete but this won't stand this won't stand won't stand and I personally can't figure out how you can make all that work maybe you can but even gene Smith interesting the Ohio State Athletic Director Dan Walk in our friend who works at USA Today was in Atlanta at these meetings and even gene Smith when asked by Dan how are you going to allow students to benefit from their name image and likeness but not have this turned into a recruiting tool of some sort in gene actually said that's the elephant in the room very hard to figure out and so like I tweeted good luck if this is the this is the path you're going down good luck 'cause I it's a it's a needle that's difficult to threaten yeah but I mean g Smith is not incorrect and what he's saying there but for decades this has existed in college athletics in terms of recruiting imbalances advantages. I will I will not sing the song with you again hairs on podcast 'cause we don't need to go down that road but I do have good news because you know what the consternation the backlash of cynicism skepticism toward the AA that was put on display. about forty five minutes after this this press release got center I actually at one point we were about twenty minutes away from media members is going to actually announced today that college athletes wouldn't even be allowed to accept scholarships like it cuts the blowback actually got a little bit over the top of here's what guess what so walk and talks to mark and Mark Emmer admits on the record here's the here's the exact quote there's no question the legislative efforts in Congress and various estates has been a catalyst to change it's clear that schools in the presidents are listening in heard loud and clear that everyone agrees that this is an area that needs to be addressed that combined with this quote from Californ- governor Gavin Newsom who released a statement after all this down he said in part California will be closely watching as the process moves forward to ensure the rules ultimately adopted are aligned with the legislation passed this year you know what if the parish can't get its bylaws to a level that are going to satisfy the public that's one thing but if it can't get there to a level that it can satisfy the politicians that's another and the good news is this is my prediction I don't see how it doesn't wind up this way it might take two years for your six years we're we're getting there okay you can have cynicism over what the won't do I get that are going to make sure this happens and if and last step might be significant court battles maybe even to the Supreme Court level but I spoke with congressman out of North Carolina who abreast to me supreme disappointment in the lack of detail here from the AA and also expressed a real intent Zaire to get legislation on the House floor in the summer of twenty twenty so that this can all be enacted in ratified by January of twenty twenty one ought to be clear GP there we have a long way to go with this and getting to the House floor is no Gimme that has a clear to the Senate and then it's going to need the president's signature to become law aw but my view on this is if we get to April and the instable a is saying all right we're going allow ABC and D- and not allow Asia I ultimately think that will be immaterial because I think at the federal level most importantly because the state level this is also going down the NC double A. is going to have a situation GP where we have twelve states enacting all this stuff allowing it and then it's going to really really GonNa go to twelve different states and say all you schools are banned from postseason play that's nightmare that's not going to happen so I do think while people might have issues with their own politicians and government this is really close to a bipartisan issue at that level as well and that's what's ultimately will force the installation hand I have issues in the short term with what the instantly Willem won't do but I think long term Mr admitted today that what has been done in California hastened this issue why shouldn't we believe that it will hasten it again and ultimately be the decider not the installation it comes to national oversight and consistency of

BFF Date Ni- and saw the show and we loved it. We had so much fun. Oh my God we had so much fun and you know. I don't know you know you never know what you're going to get with. The show we walked out of there and we were like that was amazing. I wish we had written it so the biggest compliment thank you yes your show is based on an experiment you did where you create in multiple fake profiles of quote Unquote dateable people and then interacted with it's the real people on Okay cupid through these profiles. Tell us a little bit about that. What sparked that idea and did you know at the time you'd be using it for comedy comedy material later okay so it's a slightly different what's in the current show than what actually happened in real life so I'll give you the real life story because I think it's pretty interesting? The whole thing was a total accident I had just moved to. La from Chicago and I absolutely absolutely love L. A. Now it was very lonely when I first moved there and I had gone through a number of awful dating experiences where I had pretty much just was flatlined given up. That was the state I was in and my friend. Lori called me on the phone one day and just said hey are you on okay cupid. I made a profile sal. Would you check out my profile see if I wrote anything weird and this is actually pretenders to a little bit of history like this show came about in Los Angeles than we were in Chicago and now we're in New York so in. La this was pretender and I was very much of the I'm old fashioned. I'M GONNA meet my soulmate in person kind of the state of mind so I was like no. I'm not on okay cupid but I was like I'll help her out so you have to have a profile to look at other people's profiles so I was like fine fine. I'll take five minutes and fill out a crazy cat lady. It was just the first stereotypical thing that came to my mind of course anyone who's yeah exactly so for for anyone who's on okay cupid the reason I like that dating APP is you get to write a little mini bio and you can kind of present yourself however you want you know and and I think psychologically so fascinating at once. I got into the experiment to read what people were doing now. This is my first time so I just answered the questions in all caps you know like like on purpose. I love kitties. If you don't love Kitties then you won't love me Beep Boop beep up like I was making robot sound on a typical Friday night. I'm playing with my kids of course like so stupid right and I like and men doubt it yeah exactly I forgot about it. Then went to check out lorries profile went to dinner with her and a couple of girlfriends two days later and hundreds of messages hundreds hundreds of the typical you see some of this in the show like the typical sexual innuendoes because Katie you know right and then an but then guys talking in all meows but in grammatical paragraphs which so good so hard I was dying and then I started to get reflective because I was like cold on this crazy cat lady is more popular online than I am in real life so what's wrong with me and that's where the idea came came from the original show was called UN dateable and I took it to my friend Bob Ladwig. We were working on some stuff and I was like hey this thing happened. What if we did an experiment and we just created and what we think are unbeatable or wacky personalities and put them across the country and track the result and see what happens so I knew it was funny any I didn't know it would turn into the show that it turned into and that I would also go on this like heartfelt journey because I also got really worried about these people and we we can talk more about this later but it definitely wasn't a hey? Let's just make fun of these idiots wake because you're talking to real humans and who you really don't WanNa make fun of them or hurt their feelings and they might you know of course there's some guys that might have been jerks and being like hey put some joke but you know some of them might have a real connection Russian right yeah exactly. Everybody's looking for something right so it's like I think you know I'm very overly sensitive Tiv- empathetic person so bob and I did set up rules early on like we were like we're not going to interact with people unless they find characters funny and reach out to us. I we're not going to you you know meet anybody in person or if I felt like people were actually literally into me or my characters I was getting. I'd yeah in a nice way. I tried. I think nice like I'd be like Oh. You're so nice. I just started seeing someone but this is before I even knew what ghosting was but I could never ghost anyone because because I had it happened to me and I was so obsessed so we had thirty eight characters I spiralled. I was like I have to get back to everyone. That's a lot of characters to keep track of feelings a lot of feelings exactly as someone who online dated and use okay keep it a lot I am totally not surprised that that you had men rolling into the craziest profile. DM's because like there's a lot of wackos out there Did you learn anything that surprise you well. Yeah I learned one kind of what you said like. It really is reflective real live so there is a lot of sexual innuendos. UN does and people being kind of gross and stuff for the most part with this though I think because our characters were so specific and unique people were super into it so so I didn't actually get a lot of haters where I think normally you do get that lake. Why don't you write me back? Bitch kind of thing like I most people were like this is the funniest thing I've ever seen and they were really playing along and that surprised me more than I thought it would and then as I did research because I did a lot of research search we were developing the show I found out that the more specific you are in your profile better chance you have of finding a match so when you water it down and you just say like I love to laugh ah you try to you know I love to travel. It's everybody's saying the same thing and you saw that part in the show where we categorize people into online on dating species because I found all these patterns of people like everyone thinks they're being original and they say the same thing as everybody else set always drew my crazy yeah yeah yeah I think even with ours show this is what you're single. When we're doing our sketch we would have the most specific jokes and then we would find out that people are like Oh my God I relate so much to this whatever specific thing I can't think of a example right now but the point is is that even the most specific things when it comes to dating are universal like that's I think what you what you realize but yes as far as the lack of originality in profiles you touched on something that I loved in the show which was on okay cupid they the things that you can't live without people think they are being so funny when they're like food water air and then everybody else is up at one hundred percent right in fact? We actually burn that suggestion because you know I did the show in Chicago for three years so done that a lot of times and it's like the I would say one out of ten people say that and you're like they. I know they did it online because I saw it and then when we sorry I'm people who are listening. Don't realize we have some Improv in the show and we interview people based on some of these questions so when we asked their six things a Lotta Times they go water air and you were like we have to be like that's really great. You get that all the time. Let's get a little more specific ray. You also notice the very odd trend of people referencing the Zombie Apocalypse Lot which I notice as well. Oh my God. I'm glad you noticed that too. yeah I call them. In the species I call them the walking dread because they can't resist talking about about the Zombie Apocalypse and end the end of days and they've got their kids and like it's interesting yeah in the show you imply hi that you met your husband via. One of these fake profiles is that true. Is that how you met well then that's a great question or is that little your creatives gives creative stretch. It's a little of a creative stretch. I will say it was a good one almost nine. Thank you ninety five percent of the show. I was so adamant I was like I wanted to be a hundred represent true. Maybe you know people are like okay for storytelling purposes yet so I in the show. Yes I meet a character that ends up being my husband has been that didn't I didn't meet him online. The character is based on him. You know he's called Math Club historian eighty two and that's like a joke that you know my husband's also a comedian and and so it's based off of him and his spirit but I did meet him at the tail end of this experiment so it was kind of a weird your thing where I was completely shut down not open to online dating went down this whole journey were then I was like everyone so human and I actually did start to feel Jio for all these people as human beings and then I met my husband in real life right once I feel like I did the

Male Bats Up Mating Odds With Mouth Morsels
"This is science Americans sixty seconds science. I'm Karen Hopkin sharing a meal is a standard first step in the mating rituals of many mammals, but Egypt fruit, bats take splitting an entree to a whole other level because males that allow females to take the food, right? Out of their mouths are repaid with reproductive rights and are more likely to sire offspring with their favorite female fruit finagler 's, that's according to a study in the journal current biology, a couple years back researchers noticed that in fruit bat colonies, some bats forage for food while. Other simply snatch it from the forager's mel's. Offices for expanding this Yossi avail of Tel Aviv university has studied these bets for years. Maybe the scroungers were relatives he says, or maybe they're just socially dominant bullies. We observe the mostly scroungers are females. Got the researchers thinking about something of great importance to most animals, reproduction specifically wondering whether. Might than mate with them males that provide them with food. This was. Sex food. I officers that we just you've Ellen his colleagues monitored, the interactions among bats in their colony for more than a year. And the check the paternity of the baby bets that were born what they found is that females were more likely to make babies with those males that provided free meals. But you've Bill says that the process is not strictly transactional. Sometimes they took a lot of footfalls civic individual of made with him. What's important is, is what we think is, is the bonds between the dome. So you this individual is the main provider of the female than the ability that they made. That means that offering free lunches, no guarantee for an Emmers male. But it does up his odds. And unlike human males that boys clearly learned that it's in their romantic interest to chew with their mouths open. Thanks for listening for scientific Americans sixty seconds science. California rethinks endorsement deals for college athletes
"California is considering a passing a law that would allow college athletes to profit off of their likeness they're basically if a car dealer wanted to try to bring in a few more customers on a saturday they could pay zion williamson or insert college athlete here to come in sign autographs memorabilia dealers could give a football player x. number dollars to sign a bunch of balls and cards and jerseys as so that they can profit later but the young man or woman at the time would get financial compensation For us and how this affects us in our daily lives. this would mean the return of n._c. double a football and basketball on p._s. for xbox maybe nintendo switch i don't know which would be tremendous for all of us because n._c._w._a. football obviously was the big deal but i love playing basketball as much as i like playing the football game so all of those things would happen under california's new law well mark emmer te of the n._c. double a. has interceded in has or tried to intercede anyway and has said that he the n._c. double a. will bar california institutions from playing for national championships if this law were to pass because he considers it an unfair advantage for california teams to be able to say on a recruiting trip hey if you come to berkeley or you come to u._s._c. not only will you potentially compete for national championships and have all the the onfield success you can also sign little endorsement deals or get paid to show up to a car dealership or memorabilia dealers will pay you for your signature and i agree with mark emmer for once that is a competitive disadvantage that california is creating by doing this but i would argue that is a competitive disadvantage that mark is allowing to happen Because Mark Emmer and the NCWA continue to refuse the most obvious in simple way to end the discussion about paying players. in life it is about finding compromise right there is no compromise to the institutions in the n._c. double a. to outright pay players i think there's work study type of things that i think there exist under the current university model that could be directed toward sports and i think that that is a viable option colleges won't want to do that because they will have to pay all fifty three to sixty guys on their football team they will have to pay all of the volleyball players basketball players so i understand that that is why don't very much care what universities think i knowledge that that would not be in their best interest but it is not currently in college athletes best interest to not get any sort of compensation Shen. For what they are doing. i have befriended and known more than a few collegiate athletes and i have understood their schedules workouts in the morning class during the day practice and then either you work or you study and i would sure hope that many college athletes decide to use that time to study but in college they need money you know we talk about these great stores of these guys getting drafted and how they're going to help out their family guess what when they're in college they can't do that Maybe they get a scholarship to go to school. But their parents are still in the same financial situation. They were when they sent their kid to college. So can a basketball player football player. Get. money sent every month i was lucky i got care packages i got you know money wired to me i my parents spoiled me when i was in college they helped me out whenever i needed help but a lot of young men and women don't have that opportunity and if they're they're call their college education is tied to their -bility to play sport they have to treat both of those things with the most important and that doesn't leave much room to seek game full employment

Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer will score 'Wonder Woman 1984'
"Let's move on to our next topic in this news discussion, and that is wonder, woman nineteen Eighty-four has gotten has announced their composer Brad tells us about it. Yeah, it's a pretty exciting. I think, upgrade in my opinion the the original score or wonder, woman was was pretty solid. I, you know, I, I enjoy the theme, but that came from the Batman versus superman ejection of wonder woman, but Rupert grace. Williams still did a pretty good job making a solid score for it. But for wonder, woman is eighty four. We're getting Hans Zimmer who is probably best known for providing the score for all the Christopher Nolan, Batman movies, and having him on board is definitely, I think going to make this movie even more epic than the first one Hans emerges has away with his orchestral arrangements that has really brought a lot of life to DC movies, and he's just he's really just one of the best, you know, composers out there like Hans Emmers among the household names that you hear when people know people who have scored movies among ended likes of John Williams and things like. That. So, yeah. Hear what he does. His score for the dark Knight, I think is still one of my favorites of all time. So if he could, if he could bring even a tenth of that to wonder woman, I would be happy each day. How do you feel about this new year? Big wonder, woman fan I make fed. I I remember Hans Zimmer was the one who composed wonderman. I sort of issue with you introduction theme and they reuse that for wonder woman. And I've maybe they'll kind of re imagine it for wonder, woman nineteen Eighty-four, which I'm very excited for perhaps a few more electric. Guitars. Ooh, I'm excited for him to sort of tap into maybe the cynth- of eighties music and see if he plays without a little bit. Oh, I didn't even think about that. That'd be. That'd be fantastic. I am so excited.
