"B. J Okay, We are back. Let's get right back to the phone lines. And can this police don't hang up? I'm going to get to you, but I have to go in order, but I want to hear what you're gonna have to say. Blue round rock your turn. How you doing doing fine, Cheryl, I get three. Orange trees here, a Mandarin navel orange and that he and Emma Frost the Satsuma kind of a combination of questions. The Satsuma is shot out in all directions with these long new gross And I'm wondering when trim that back and shape it a little better, but they're from above the graph flying, right? Oh, yeah. Yeah, you can. You can shape them any time you want. You can trim them now, if you want to, or you can just let him go. On DH. Wait and let them help the plant develop even more because you know all that new growth is going to be fruitful one of these days and it just helps, you know, with the photosynthesis. So there's really no need to do that. Now, if there's a bring each that's unwieldy. You don't want it forever. You know, it's going in the wrong direction. You cut that off any time you want, Okay? Don't have Tio painted over the cut. No. Aah! This has been going on a couple of years now, uh, neighbor orange trees of body foot tall, probably have 60 70 oranges on it. And the Mandarin has maybe 30 40 oranges on it. And the neighbor. One's tree is dark green, really rich, looking loaded with great fruit. But the other one has fruit on it, and the leaves are not will tippin or bent or anything, but they're kind of turning a yellowish color, and that's been going on now for the last two years. This year. It's gotten a little worse, and I'm wondering if, uh, it in the ground. You know something, something going on? I heard John so yesterday that he's recommending a seaweed with iron in it, and I've got plenty of seaweed that it doesn't have any iron, and it has Molasses in it. Well, you can try that. I would do probably, you know, spend the money and get the seaweed with key lated iron, and that's the only kind of iron that really works around here, and you sure don't want to put it on the leaves. But if you do a good soaking with that it could just be nitrogen related. There's a really good fertilizer made by ESP Oma would they used to advertise with us, and I personally have used that, and it's called Citrus tone. And it's so easy to use. I might try to get me some of that. But you can always green stuff up with seaweed, if if it's a micro nutrient issue. I don't know that the iron how necessary it is, But if you've got seaweed with molasses in it, I'd start there. Yeah. No, don't spray the leaves, Right? Put it on the ground. All right, right unless you khun doing in the evening, but you need a really good morning. Effective when you put it on the ground. Oh, yes, it is. Okay. All right. Thank you very much. Hey, thanks for calling. Kill BJ today. Let's see who's next. Tom and Copeland has gone. Pretty good. Hey, I got a friend who lived moved into a subdivision and they played all these new trees and stuff. He's got a little open tree and he's been watering it way too much, and I think he's got a little root rot going on. There's a split up up the side of the tree going about maybe a foot and a bunch of Sapphic coming out. You know he's got fire ants or something like that. Attacking it or termites or whatever the hell I think it's termites, actually. And Ah, I told him to stop water against Yeah, he may be over Watergate, which cause sometimes that can cause a treat a weep. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's anything fatal. But when you're a big it's a big cut, and there's like a bunch of sap coming out. Is there something nobody quit watering? And he says, Wow, it started perking up, but now pretty healthy. Is there something we could put on there to kind of help it. Hell if I really need to obey the No. Just what I would do is sort of blast him off, blasted off if it's weeping, what is just attracting them and is just a matter of of knocking it off. You could also, you know, spray a little Citrus. Spray on near, but I wouldn't do anything else, like okay. Pruning painter, a sap seeping out basically because it's kind of. Yeah, it's over. Water is full. Yes, it's too full of seen trees do that in years when we had inordinate amounts of rain. Andi also when a tree's growing really fast, which it may be they the bark has to split in order for it is, you know like aliens, but when it's so full Of water, So I think it's going to be just fine. And if he just wants to dissuade the end sex time just get the system back. And once it dries out a little bit, it'll it'll fight off. Pretty good. Yeah, Yeah, right. Yeah. They're just attracted to the sugar in the in the Sap. All right. Well, thank you very much. Yes, sir. Okay, let's go to Candace. Thank you so much for holding on. I've been dying to hear your your comments. And I love to hear your show. Well, thank you. I like you in particular. OK? Somebody was asking about how to control glass up was on large acreage. Yes, and we used the nolo bait. N o. L O. And it is available at good bug dot com. They like for you to put it out on the field early grasshoppers Ah, you know when they're just hatching out, But I have used it even in my little garden when you know how the grasshoppers will target the bush Yeah, and and I have even put it in a little old plastic. Plant pot. You know, the kind you get from the nursery and, you know, put a little coffee filter in there and put the nolo bait in there, and I loved it out there. And what's so stinking grasshoppers Eat that No bait. Hey, yeah, I think I've just nice giving them something to eat. Oh, you're so sweet to call. I'm going to get cut off for the news. But did you want to hold or is that Oh, that's good. Thank you dot com Got you appreciate it. We'll be right back, You know, Let's say you just bought a house. Bad news is you're.

You know as a as I say I've been watching this Hardiman and amazing friends which is very mutant heavy series. Yeah well yeah. I'm that every episode ice of the characters and they say in the series that fire star used to be an X. men however in the actual comments because the TV show came before the comics she becomes a. She's actually a Hellene. Which was you recall? That is What's her name off the White Queen's Emma Frost's Xm equivalent so yes interesting Yeah the the created for the amazing friends show I because I think they said they wanted Johnny Storm. But I don't know if there was a thing with rights and stuff so there's always a thing with rates and then they're like. Oh maybe we should create a new character. May We should throw a girl in here. "Use the power of the Andrews to recreate the universe as he knew it. Lets you know. I don't know man I think that's that's a weird in. Its own way too. It's like I'm not creating I'm not bringing people back from them. Just recreating as simulation of them. What I remember? You know it's like it's not like you know it's not like it's the real history. This is how I want history to be but anyway so that was that and then they talk about the incursions in it which is interesting do that whole pig. Oh the final fate of taste though and Yada Yada Yada. Oh yeah like the Kinda like give us little hints of what's to come. What is at the wedding of Tony Stark and Emma Frost? I honestly expunge future talks about the exact Tony Stark married Emma frost he because literally that naturally that is not more than a four issue are two miniseries mini series at. Oh you know honestly you. If you're the writer of that you're hoping gets you get a mini series. That is literally Salihi or issues at bath. Yes in a group of men that they're currently putting out there. It's like it's first off. She's a mind controller. So it's not like Tony. Stark is ever going to trust that he loves a mind controller. Yes you know or that. Tony Stark is ever going to give up control in that way. But that's the teaser. That's how they should read it. You know of course that assumes uh-huh let that thought one of the pitches that just fell flat if they get the feeling sometimes these later that oh the future hero these crazy things. Sometimes they do a big pitch and everyone throws in their ideas on like only like six of the twenty seven Made though the ones that sounds shacking market mentioned but the ones that are actually have a good story by those but anyway so that was that they mentioned gwent full which is nice. She gets a mention in the history of the Marvel Universe because yes early. Twentieth twenty-first century that needs is a moment to talk about even though we're going to go the rest of the century. Although what's Weird we never get twenty ninety nine. So nope maybe we think anyway And that was one of the only book I really really fully read. I read a little bit of Omega but that was that but we can talk about if you. I mean. We don't have to do it now. We do later because there there will be a twenty ninety nine special coming up so I I won't fight you to that will link set a date. I'm still imagined by cone. I swear I swear I think I mean we talk to here but I I swear you I think it was a night you were recorded with Mas maybe Entirely possible the I know another important man Charlie. After he can't be in twenty places isn't once I know but that was the best one either way me and Matt agreed with you. I mean I know Mukunda said that was his favorite to is our code in twenty one. I just want more more of that story. I'd like everything else. Twenty three care free no helmet. That's like literally everything I want. I want to say Yeah No surfing. I can't even realize there was going to be another episode of that. It was like a serpent. Or I'm telling you this story. I guess they have to like okay. Well yeah the member they gotTa make the Howard verse thing though. Yeah I I hope Moonlight Figures more prominently in. Did they mentioned something about can't shoe in the in the In the history of the Marvel Universe do though in a push. The catch you on you other got so Disney smarter than at three religion in La area. The the shoe INS and the crummy so between the three major religions of the Disney neighbors. They they will eventually have control over everything without having to buy. That's the point. I you gotta get. I have to control religion Lilith. You can't just buy buy buy in a capitalist fashion. "Men Number Twenty Twenty eight at. I loved it. Yeah you've written about it and it's a great idea that issue really struck me like the thing does really well well which isn't the political piece of it? It's the feminist piece of it. which is that Lake Gene? Just sort of draws the line and says you're not going to terrorize the women of these household anymore. She beats the fuck out of him and leaves him like begging for more and then threw her like leadership. All the other women are like you know what I'm not not scared of you anymore. Doesn't let him talk shit about the other woman either. She's like no. We're all better than you actually. Yeah I love that that came about because she was kind of like okay. Eggs like whatever random shit you're doing right now and then it was because jubilee with scared and she starts crying on gene shoulder and jeans totally totally one hundred percent there for her and she's like glaring off to the side just lake. I'm GonNa Comfort this child and then I'm about ready to go do some shit and yeah. I love that because I love when jeans. Compassion is triggering point for her is she sees somebody being her. And it's usually somebody that nobody else is taking responsibility onto -bility for and then she becomes infuriated and that's when she gets impatient and that it is only really impatience with Sabertooth. Because she doesn't actually have any reason to your head so all of that to me. I think it's one of the best issues of the X.. Men of the time so I'm glad you really like it too. That dialogue is so good. Because it's so good news. It's really powerful and naturalistic enough to still feel really contemporary. When you're reading it do you think that there's a time when Magneto Agneda has had a moment like that? That was really good that you enjoy it because I think about that scene where you have. Somebody's making them be accountable for the things that they've done in no way like with Sabertooth. He's kind of not very receptive audience. But magneto generally is time you can think of. Whenever that went off will allow us to great question? I would have to do more thinking. Ah I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't something like that. And some of the Jaw Sweden X. men or fraction but I don't remember off the top of my head I still love the the scene of Magneto summoning the bullet that kitty is trapped in back through space and into earth. But I don't know I'm I'm drawing a blank. I wish I could answer your a question. We'll we'll have to have you on the show again. Some time to talk about that. You know because we we're GONNA WANNA interview again because this has been amazing but I just wanted to check if there is anything else that you wanted to say about. Either Kitty Pryde the X.. Men are about this specific issue. Alana no I think that's it you know I'm working on an essay should be out pretty pretty soon about kitty. Pryde bisexuality in Marauders and Ali send it our way when it comes you love to share that I will do that and I also covered some of my own show so that is and I've got one question left for us the question. We're GONNA make like our signature interview question. Who are your favorite bitches from comics? I gotTa Love Emma Frost. That's going to be okay to not just be that person. I also gotTA gotTa love. Emily Astor from phonogram. I'm like the biggest phonogram fan in the world. And it lets you breathe and it lets the measure reeds, and what makes an X men book is that the X men breathe they go to dance class. They have sleep. Overs. They play baseball games. But it doesn't come off as fan service or pandering because they have always had that space to stop and breathe. If you wanna hear what I mean, listen to some early Counting Crows music. I know they're not for everybody. But Adam Durant's is a poet who builds the breathing into what he's doing because that's how he gets you where he needs to be a we're waking up Mariya because everybody's gonna place to go, and she makes a little motion with her head says one more minute, and has no sense of musicality. "This is something we're gonna see again a couple times with him specifically when kitty appears to be dead much much later during the Weeden run. And it's also something we're gonna see with interestingly enough, another character whose powers echo, his Emma frost, which is doubly interesting considering that Morrison put her on the team in gave that secondary mutation specifically as a standard for colossus. But there is one important distinction with Emma when she goes into her diamond form her emotions literally turn off. And I get the strong impression it with colossus his emotions are right where they were. It just is sort of almost a a symbolic. Click gesture symbolic rejection of feeling I don't think he's actually turning his feelings off. He's just giving him permission to run away from them when he stays in his metal form for long periods of time. So he kind of falls apart has a lot of feelings about the Ana and then goes out to interrupt nightcrawlers fight with yak lights who've come to get her to save that he's going back. There is no need to continue. This fight vote. I have every intention of honoring my word to exodus had will return with you to Avalon. But you should know this. I am doing. So because I genuinely believe my presence might make a difference that I can convince you the man who was magneto stood for much more than blood and violence and death that the difference between his goal, and that of exhibitors is nearly identical in intent if not an execution. Goodbye godspeed Xavier. For although I don't blame you for my sister's death. I do not feel you or any of us who pursue your dream have done all we can to help our kind. When you found me, I was an atheist raise to serve the state for better or for worse. You made me believe in something. I can never return to my belief in nothing. For that. At least I will always be grateful. He's never gonna put another Margaret in a bathtub. Then reference to me a second to catch. But I like that. I it actually makes me a little more okay with colossus general modern portrayal as weirdly enough a Christian because he was very specifically an atheist when he joined the X men, but you know, it kind of follows that that he was he would be a person who would really glommed onto the concept of belief after reading professor Xavier and having his entire life change. So yeah, I mean, obviously, God isn't mentioned here. But I really do by the idea that colossus has been transformed almost against his will into a believer. Finally, once colossuses gone kitty night crawler and Rachel Tel-Aviv about their plans for new Excalibur. They want to do something that the the none of the other extremes are really accomplishing right now. They want to do more than just crisis management to catch the stuff that falls through the cracks of the other teams and to try to basically make a positive difference. Not just respond to two crises problems as nightcrawlers says it falls to us to cut a swath of tolerance and understanding through the blanket of ignorance and fear that autumn separates are two races. It's a good plan. But it's also not really gonna happen. Yeah. X caliber honestly for the remainder of its run. I think is going to be a book in search of a concept. It's got a great collection of characters. It's got some pretty good creative teams here and there, but I don't think it ever really knows what it wants to be again yet. And this. This idea of being the ex team whose whose proactive is one that we're gonna see on and off again throughout over the years, and it's never really gonna stick. Which is a shame because it's a really interesting concept. Honestly, I think the team that's accomplished at best. So far is probably the champions. You know? That's actually a really good point. You're referring, of course, to the modern champions like with MS not not like not not not angel not angel. He ever done, right. "You thinks when makes those I think someone makes those, and I think magneto has one, and I think that that is just straight up cannon. I I really can't fault him for that. Do you think they're waterproof? I mean, it's more well anyway, magneto dramatic body pillow thoughts lead us into a flashback drawn beautifully by Jay Lee. Who's? Stark craggy style fits perfectly. This is a flashback of magneto burying his daughter Anya after he killed her killers. With apparently the first use of his mutant power now continuity is gone back and forth on whether this was the first time magnet used his magnetic powers. Honestly, it doesn't really matter. Yet, magnets backstory has changed about as much as wolverines at this point. It has. Yeah. In that moment, the moment he used his power to force one soldier to slay his comrades the world lost one of its most valuable resources. It lost the heart and soul of Eric venture and found in its place an entity known as nag NATO, and that's kind of going to be the thesis statement of this issue uncanny x number three or four the big dramatic return of magneto to earth, essentially, posits that magneto is and has always been a straight up irredeemable super villain a sympathetic one. Yes. But a bad guy. This issue goes a long way to try to undo so much of what Clermont did having magneto follow exhibitors dream for so long, and I think it's written. Well, I don't think it's a good story decision. So going back and re reading this now 'cause I the last time I had read this before we got to in coverage was was several years ago. This feels like magnet this fiddle. Attraction seems to me to be to magneto as vendors versus in humans to Emma frost. I can see that. Or maybe even as X men deadly. Genesis is to professor exhibitor hard disagree on that one actually because that. I think deadly Genesis is more consistent with exhibitors decision making process and characterization. I I know that there are people for whom it was an absolute of her Isan. And for me it felt again really characterization consistent in in terms of him doing awful stuff because he's got the he trusted his own judgment. And he thinks he's doing it. Right. And doesn't quite ever. You know, see the people whose lives he's he's moving around as human in the ways that he is like that. That's that's how he had been consistently portrayed at that point. Yeah. But but not with somebody like cyclops. The fact that executor keeps the existence of another brother from cyclops to sort of cover his own ass vats where I just totally don't buy it. So I think this is narrow where I know we agree on most x-men men things. But if this is an area where we don't at least we both agree that megadose kind of getting some hardcore characterists assoiation ear though, right? Yet. So where I am with this is that all of the things that he actually does in this all of his big moves feel like they could be in character. But his rationalizations for them, aren't, and that's that's that's why specifically compared it to vendors versus in humans because I feel that way a lot about Emma frost at okay, that's a really good parallel in that makes sense. And we'll get to more of that. How Magni does affect how Magna's seeming how his interaction with other characters is really just weird in this issue. Well, in the meantime, the perhaps other side of the metallic coin Charles executor is staring at his reflection close in a mirror looking like nothing so much as James Sunderland from the first scene of silent hill two. Charles. I'm waiting for you in our special place. Oh, jeez. Oh, that's dark man, anyway, laundry exhibitors, confidante and lover, holy graphically appears to comfort him..

"I really can't think of a better place to go for that. So there we go X men limited number one and two both to stellar goddamn issues. Two wonderful examples of what the nineties could be at their best. Now, the accident unlimited issues may be fairly self contained, but they're part of a much larger Unsworth sprawling marvel universe. As a result of which you are. Listeners have questions. Eric asks by Email. Do you think a mental health professional at the x mansion would help our characters and sort the larger story has this been done before? And I'm just unaware or is the strength of the x men story. The ability to lean on each other imperfect confused as they may be without assistance from quote adults. Yes. And no, I think a lot of the X men would benefit significantly from access to adequate mental health care. I think that it's it's absences a problem we've seen a couple instances where a team leader has has brought in a mental health professional. I think the only time that's done. Particularly affected was one time when Daniel moon star did it for counseling related to a specific traumatic event for her team. I don't think that's particularly good story hook, especially as an ongoing thing. And I'm doubly of that opinion, given how mental health professionals in therapy have historically been portrayed in superhero comics, which is not well again, I'm currently watching the punisher season. To end and has been yelling professional boundaries at the screen on a really regular basis. But for more on this. I'd recommend checking out episode two hundred sixteen examining x factor which featured Dr Andrea element of the Arkham sessions where we talked a lot more about representations of psychology as a field in of psychotherapy in in comics, basically. If I thought this were written. Well, it could make a good framing device for a single issue or around on on on off thing with a specific character. But honestly, I don't know that I trust publishers or the folks with the power to say no to handle this. Well, I don't know who currently writing superhero comics, I would trust to write it. Well, inaccurately it's it's it's something you can do well in fiction from the you can do very well as a framing device all point to the podcast the bright sessions that. But I just don't see it working as an ongoing framing device in most experts. Well said, and I agree now, I was looking into the more factual aspect of the question, which is, you know, are there are therapists psychologists in the universe. Of course, you mentioned doc Samson from the x factor issue. But more specific characters who are psychologists and therapists, well, of course, we have Charles executor. We have Emma frost, we have Rory Campbell who will be meeting next caliber soon. So he's a little scary. We have Scarlett McKenzie from having and wolverine meltdown. We have also Val Cooper. I'd forgotten but her doctorate is in psychology. Well, and she's a great example of the fact that having having a doctorate in psychology and being a licensed practicing therapist are two entirely different things. She is. In fact, the one who calls doc Samson because that's not her field. Also sigmund? Freud the father of psychology as we know it is a character in earth. Six one six in the marvel universe..

"Do you have a favorite example of the X men using strategy rather than brute force to take down at opponent? Personally. I never get tired of rereading the interrogation scene in Wedenesday. Unstoppable. Arc first of all. Yes. That is. In fact, one of my favorite examples of what you're talking about. As are the two versions of the conversation that preceded I'm not gonna spoil any of that for the folks who haven't read it, but it's a really delightful. I am also Superfund of the the motif that comes up periodically. It's it's it's happened a few times named continuity. It's definitely happened on in first classes well of psych. Laps using his surroundings, basically to fight a an enemy who massively massively outnumbers or outguns him most often it's the danger room in the mansion defense defenses, but he's easiest other places before and it's always really really cool. So speaking of cyclops, I think I mentioned episode or two ago that I just read the entire silver age. And so the scene is fresh in my mind where cyclops defeats the sentinels by convincing them to fly into the sun because the sun is the source of all mutation and what I also really love. And I hadn't realized until I reread the issue is that when questioned about it later cyclops just like, yeah. I had no idea what they were gonna do. I just figured if I said go fight the source of all mutations. Something might happen, wilderness dot yeah. I I mean, my my love for that story is well documented, and I'm definitely with you there. I also really love a recent story we covered on the show where havoc just whips out his checkbook and pays off random to stop the eve. Vil mission. He's on rather than endangering all the innocent people around. But I think I have to go with Jean grey, channeling all of the willpower and love of an alien planet into cyclops. So that he could optic blast that love and willpower at the celestial and convince them to spare the planet back in judgment war, or I guess professor exhibit here, channeling all the willpower and love of a whole planet that being earth into cyclops. So he could optic blast that willpower in love at the inox back in the silver age, you know, until I said it that way I didn't realize that those resolutions are kind of the same thing. And I'm not sure if that makes me like judgment or more or less, I'm gonna go with Moore. There's also a specific pair of issues. I don't recall the numbers, but they're from very early in ex-pm legacy when Emma frost and cyclops basically in combination. Pretty much out strategize. Professor acts in some really amazing ways that work very very very well. And that's that's less taking down an enemy than than an opponent. But I think it probably fits the Bill here. Tom asks by mail. I'm looking for an updated appearance scheduled for you. Both do you have any plan to outings for twenty nineteen where fans can meet you. In fact, we do we're going to be at emerald city comic con in March. We're going to be tabling all long weekend. We'll have a live.

"You couldn't care less. If I live in England or out and Spinneys a knee first time, I could sick you ground me in the future attack, and Jean realizes almost immediately that there allusions who are preying on her own frustration with feeling guilty for not being more of parent to two kids who aren't hers and just kind of got dropped on her and not only Vail loosens. But so is everything else in this world. Eventually, the three X men who are real who are stuck there workout what's going on. They are stuck in masterminds allusions. But it turns out it's not actually a track. He's lost control of his powers because of the legacy virus. Wait a minute mastermind could never had any kind of telepathy like this. He could just generate allusions he was only able to pull Jean grey, or as it turned out Phoenix into a mental illusion world because of a little machine that Emma frost made for him to use. Maybe he maybe he swallowed. Maybe he's still got it in his belly. Well, or maybe this is another part of what the legacy virus did to his powers. Maybe this is what they would be. If you turn them up that much further. I just think it's funnier. If the dying mandate a robot box it could be both. Now, the reason that he's done this. The reason he wanted to talk to Jean is that his relationship with Jean during the dark Phoenix saga, which he acknowledges explicitly as having been coercive, a not real which is good was still the closest he's ever come to being loved. And he wanted to apologize to give her something. Good. Basically in his words, a glimpse of a happier world, obviously, this did not work out as planned. And now with mastermind dying. They're all stuck in his head. Now, gene manages to boot out Bishop in Ice Man and accepts Jason's apology. She doesn't mention the part where that wasn't actually heard. That was Phoenix, which I I guess is nice. And even though gene is trying to stay in masterminds mind to be with him in his last moments though, it would mean her death. He pushes her out selflessly and dies. And I guess that's cool. But okay after everything mastermind did to Jean like, he really really fucked with her. Okay, fucked with Phoenix. But still I mean, kind of like mind raped her lot. And I don't think I'm ready to forgive him as nice as he's willing to be when he dies something. I really appreciate is that this story doesn't actually ask for that doesn't try to present this as his redemption, or as something that takes away from any of the bad shit that he does Justice him wanting to do a decent thing before he dies. And that's something that's even addressed directly in the dialogue that that iceman and Bishop. Comment on ice. And basically something along blinds. If you know damn you, you'd think someone's just one thing, and it turns out that they're actually a whole person..

So just looking at how they upgraded it from the first interruption of the movie that came out to the one just killed it. The box office is past year. I'm thinking pet cemetery will be the same thing. It's they're saying if he loved the book ago, the movie. So I'm thinking it's going to stay pretty true to the story. It was a very, very freaky. Scary book. I can't wait to see how they're going to make this modernize pet cemetery, but we'll have to wait till April fifth of twenty nineteen to see this movie. Okay. Gnocchi been reading affinity wars. You've seen that they have a kind of. A weird offshoot from that cone, Infinity warps were Gamarra's. Now he has his own little hover wheelchair. So he looks a lot like professor x with a big bat symbol on his chest. Sure. He's still pretty deadly. Even with that full body armor, he wolf to bunch of of legion of doom. He was pretty instrumental and then justly getting the totality away from lex Luther on. Now, he's taking easy. He's he's sitting instead of standing. But this, this hover chairs pretty armored up. I'm sure he's got it full of all kinds of weapons. So certainly Justice league.
