I'm Brian schuch. And I Brian Curtis in Hong Kong, let's check this hour's top business stories and the markets. Fed officials are calling for more interest rate increases to help tame inflation. The market reaction to Tuesday's CPI data shows investors realize that inflation is likely to remain higher for longer. Former IMF chief economist Ken rogoff told us that part of the fed's problem is the 2% inflation target. Back in the day, they should have sat 3% instead of 2%. But they didn't. And they've really made commitments. If you change it, it means you might change it again. So I think what, in fact, will happen. I don't think we're going to have a soft landing, by the way. I think we're going to have soft, but not the landing. I think inflation, they're going to allow to be all right. For longer, but they're going to say it's going to get back to 2%. We're just taking longer. I think that's going to be the rhetoric. Rogoff added that the fed will have to figure out where rates need to be longer term so that inflation does not remain a problem. Dallas fed chief Lori Logan said, more rate hikes may be needed. And the fed should not lock in a peak interest rate or a precise path of rates. We also heard from Richmond fed president Thomas barkin. We may or may not choose to take rates up further if inflation continues to persist. But we'll have to see what happens. If inflation settles, maybe we don't go quite as far. But if inflation persists at levels well above our target, maybe we'll have to do more. Meantime, fed Philly bank president Patrick harker said that the fed was nearing the point where rates were restrictive enough. He said, we're not done yet, but we are likely close. In some other news, President Biden has named fed vice chair lael brainard as his top economic aid. She will replace Brian D says director of The White House national economic council. More from Bloomberg's Michael McKee. It has a lot of experience in Washington. She was deputy treasury secretary. She was the deputy head of the national economic council before. So she has worked on the political side for many years as well as on the monetary policy side. So she knows everything about what's going on in Washington. And she is also considered to be a very capable kind of, I don't want to use the word bureaucrat, but somebody who knows how to get things done. Let's check the markets, the index is down 1.4%. The tye X in Taiwan down 1.5%, and the nikkei is now down about a half of 1%. The Bloomberg dollar spot index has strengthened two tenths of 1%. Dalyan one 33 O two. The yield on the ten year treasury, 3.73%, and the yield on the two year 4.60%. "I just carried a bunch of bars, I don't want to eat any of that food at all. And yeah, I gambled and turned it turned it into a profit, and then came back. And it was one of my most fun trips. So there's ways you just have to do some searches and not be afraid. Very good, amber, amber gamble, this is if people want to get in touch with you, is there a way to do it or should they just contact Richard and me and move forward? You can follow me on Twitter at amber gambling. If you are interested in forming more of a partnership, I would ask you to send me a DM. And I can even add you, I keep I keep a Twitter circle that gets a little more. I try to stay a little under the radar, but I share with people in my circle a little bit more about what I'm thinking a little bit of my daily thoughts. A little bit of my other stuff that I'm doing in my life, but you're welcome to follow me on Twitter. I have my account on private for a while, but I'm getting a little bit out there. So yeah, you can follow me on Twitter. That's fine. It's a medium. Very good. At the end of our show, we have a recommended section where the host and often the guests recommend something we think of as of interest. So Richard. Do you have a recommended for our guest today? Yeah, I'm going to recommend, I think I may have recommended this a couple of years ago, but my favorite Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas is used to be a little hole in the wall called chili caliente. And I was there the other day and they have expanded and made the restaurant bigger changed up the menu. They've added a bar. But the food was just excellent, still. So that is my recommended chili caliente. It's on the east side, maybe about 6 miles off the strip. So I'll put a link in the show notes to it and but if you like Mexican food, it's a great place. All right, my recommendation is a new Netflix movie. Of an old book called lady chatterley's lover. This was D.H. Lawrence last novel set during and after World War I. The upper class chatter leafs marry before he Clifford is sent off to war, and he returns paralyzed from the waist down. Nonetheless he moves his family home to English countryside where he owns a coal mine. Eventually, lady chatterley, Connie, become disenchanted with the marriage, and the steaming relationship arises with the gamekeeper millers. Affairs depicted at length graphically and tastefully. Now, I read this book more than 50 years ago, and at the time, my interest was in the pornographic descriptions which I reread in a number of times. It paid no attention to the call strikes that were mentioned or the upper and lower class distinction. Those are the pages I skipped. But now in this movie, I'm kind of getting too old to get off on pornographic descriptions. And I would not call this one pornographic at all. If you're in for that experience, this movie isn't it. The star Emma corrin is far more anorexic than anything in my imagination from the book. And it becomes more of a love story than a sex story. Glimpses of the upper class and lower class divide in 1920s England peer regularly and round out the story very nicely. So amber gambling, do you have a recommended force? I have, can I give you two books of you may? I wanted to recommend the logic of sports betting by Ed Miller and Matthew David Al, that was such a game changer in my gambling career. And then the second book I want to recommend is a favorite of mine. It's called the beginning of infinity. By David Deutsch and if you are into philosophy and science, space, all those things, how knowledge is created, that is just an amazing book. I've read it several times. I'm actually listening to it on audiobook. Today on my way to Seattle to visit a bedding friend. So yeah, that would be my recommendation. Very good. Huh, not familiar with that one. And we will have links to all this in the show notes. And the logic of sports betting, of course, Matt and Ed have been guests on this show and several of our guests recommended that book for good reason. All right, thank you. Yeah, it used to be the first book that anybody would recommend for sports betters was sharp sports betting by Stanford Wong, but now I think that, you know, that's the first book everyone should read. I also read sharper by poker Joe. And that was another one that, again, just kind of the lightbulb goes off. So yeah. Actually, I'm not familiar with this last one you mentioned. Oh, it's a good one. I love that book. It's called sharper sports betting. I believe, and it's by poker Joe and he's also on Twitter at poker Joe, I believe. That was another great book, there are so many. I can recommend books. Oh, and you know, can I say something? Mister roentgen, I just want to thank you for your recommendation last year on shogun. I DMed you. You probably don't remember this because I DMed you for my other account. And when you recommend a shogun, I was like, okay, I need more. And so, yeah, that was another great book. I enjoyed reading it. Oh, yeah. And I love really long books. I mean, if the book is really good, I'm glad that it's really long, 'cause I want it to keep going on. And so clavell wrote some really great really long books. Your recommendation was amazing. Thank you. Well, good. Good. All right. Thank you, amber. This was fun. Thank you. Thank you, Richard. Go out and hit lots of royal flushes, everybody. Good day.

"The laws hadn't changed. Society did. And the courts responded accordingly. Grove presses success in court effectively overturned America's obscenity laws. Or at least knocked over the first domino. It also granted the public access to art about female sexual pleasure. The author championed the idea of true passion necessitating both a physical and mental connection. Obscenity only comes in when the mind despises and fears the body. He writes in the book, and the body hates and resists the mind. The director, known for the 2019 drama the Mustang, received the script for the film in March 2020, just as the pandemic was beginning. The need for human connection drew her to the film, especially as loneliness, felt magnified. I felt I needed to bring this as well, but as a revitalization of a human being, as something that heals, clermont tener, told W magazine. Especially the scene where they're running under The Rain naked. There's something so erotic and so liberating. Connie chatterley, played by Emma corrin, and Oliver Miller's, played by Jack O'Connell, the gamekeeper on her husband's estate, come from drastically different social classes, a fact that Lawrence very intentionally highlighted. Lady chatterley's husband, Clifford, chatterley, played by Matthew duckett, is a baronet who becomes hell bent on fixing the teversall coal mines, which he owns. In law de clermont Anders film, the husband and wife spar over the working conditions in the mines. During one conversation, Clifford smugly tells Connie that most of those men have been ruled since time began, to which she responds incredulously, and you can rule them, Clifford explains that he has been raised and trained to fulfill this role, and when she asks if he believes that they and the miners share any humanity, he replies, we all need to eat and breathe, but beyond that no. Connie and mellers are very similar personalities and beyond class and status. There's something that connects immediately. Clermont tener said. These emotions leads to a physical expression, which defines their relationship as a celebration. It is first an emotional love story about two lonely people who feel the need to connect to exist.

"So I was impressed by that. Emma corrin, I know primarily from being Princess Diana in The Crown. She doesn't get a lot to do here. And at least what I saw and I thought she was very good as Diana and The Crown. So I kind of a thankless role. It was fine. Yeah. It's fine. It's fine. It's a BB minus. It's not a total disaster. And Harry Styles performance is not a total disaster unlike some other films that are now available on streaming. That's right. Emma corrin's interesting. She didn't make our list this year, although I wonder if a year from now, for example, she does. She's the star of the forthcoming lady chatterley's lover adaptation. Speaking of sex scenes. That's right. She's maybe she's developing an she's very talented. I did not watch her entire two season. But she's two seasons of The Crown are just one. Just one. Okay. And then the new season with Diana starts on Wednesday. And who's playing Diane in the Elizabeth Becky? Yeah. Maybe I should watch that. Yeah.

"41 is WTO news. The show of the week is The Crown, the new season begins on Netflix on Wednesday. TV guides Matt Roush joined Santa Claus earlier to talk about what this new season. This really has got a lot more scrutiny in the wake of the actual queens passing away earlier this year and there had been some pushback in the UK among people who thinks maybe it's disrespectful to keep telling this story or tell it now and it's moving into the final stretch really in this season and the one more season to go because we're now into the point where this is stuff a lot of people still remember. We're in the 1990s. We're in the downward spiral of Charles and Diana's marriage. The phone sex with Camilla comes out in the newspapers. She gives that explosive BBC interview and all things kind of blow up all over the place and at the same time there are polls saying Queen Elizabeth has Queen Victoria syndrome. She's been in the job too long as she relevant. Is she out of touch? And there's a lot of metaphors to sort of make that kind of clear. So there has been some controversy around this season, but I think it is still done with the same sensitivity and empathy for these characters humanizing these very, very public figures. Yes, some of it is imagined, but that is what docudrama does, and I think that the Peter Morgan has done a really good job here. Again, you know, we've got a new cast, so we have a meld of Staunton, the terrific character actress, now playing the queen and her twilight, Jonathan price is her Prince Philip, and Dominic West, who you'll know from the wire, is Charles, and a woman who I'm not that familiar with, Elizabeth de Becky, is uncanny in her impersonation of Diana. I can't believe it's almost not her in some regards. But she is a very pained person here. There's a lot of conflict. But if you like The Crown before, I think you're gonna like it again. And this is such a unique thing about this series, the cast changes as it ages, there haven't been any misses yet really in these recasts. No, there really haven't, and these are all really terrific actors and they were in the first two seasons and then again when Olivia Colman and Emma corrin and Josh O'Connor were playing all those parts and what we've also got Leslie manville, who's all over the place. She's got a current masterpiece mystery thing, and she's playing Princess Margaret. And again, you just have one great British actor after another. I think sometimes the sour grapes are the ones who didn't get cast. Because it's amazing how they have kept the sort of credibility of these characters, even though they're played by completely different people every two years. But here we go. We're in the final stretch now. And that is TV guides Matt rauch. Also tonight, 15 people die in a fire and a cafe and the Russian city of Castro, it's about 200 miles north of Moscow that roof collapsing during the blaze. It was apparently sparked by someone using a flare gun. During a dispute, police are looking for the person who used that gun. Sports is next on TOP. Reconnect with a carpool or vanpool. "Our labor with a day off back tomorrow on my talk one. Oh 71. Oh, my gosh! Little royal music. Yes, well, yesterday of this made me so happy The crown gave us our first look at the new Princess Diana. And Prince Charles for season five. And it's of course, Dominic West is playing Charles and Elizabeth. Did. Becky is playing Diana? Yeah, we posted it. Take a look at them. They They look amazing. But the thing that was making me so happy yesterday was thinking about Prince Charles. Seeing that everyone thinks that Dominic West is too hot to play him and that they made Prince Charles with a little attractive. But also, you know, really thought I kind of thought back in the day that he was not bad looking because he had royal de we exactly. That's right, Mary Princess Diana and we went around in a kilt and Yeah, yeah. No, I'm not just hot. I mean, hot in a hot because he was royal. That was it. You otherwise you know, because he he was right. He was right. That's yes, basically Ladder and don Dominic West. People were also yelling at him. And I'm like, Hey, this dude has proven his chops to port poetry. Prince Charles. He was Skuta ring and canoodling with Lily James in Rome, and then he staged a press conference outside of his wife's castle. Saying Our marriage is strong and fine. Do you know what I mean? He has the the acting jobs to portray Charles because he's been down this road has with the wife and I think that the hair and makeup people really did a great job because with Dominic the thing that they get right with him She's got, like a kind of a bend of a curling his hair around his ear around his ears, which Charles does and Charles stands very often. You know, in a suit with 11 hand in the pocket and Elizabeth to Vicky, That is totally how Diana or her hair at this Point in her life, and, um, so anyway, Just take a look at it. But Dominic does not really look anything like Charles in the way that Joshua Connor looked like the 100%, you know, so but Yeah, but really, Josh really captured something in Charles. The young Charles. I thought Oh, my gosh. So, um, anyway, 100% Lorien, the insecurity of him. Yeah, and that unloved nous of him and and they're filming right now and write about a month ago. Pictures of Imelda stunt and being Queen Elizabeth and, um So the DeBakey casting, I mean, she's just simply look so much like her place. She's tall and leggy like her, and we got to know her in the night manager. She was so good. That's a good thing to binge. Two grand. If you're looking for something old the night manager. Yeah, that was so good to see. It's a John Licari. No. Feel like it was only was it only like three. Two hour episodes. I like that. Yeah, it wasn't a big one. It wasn't a big one at all. It's probably like four years old. Maybe I probably because Benedict cumber by it one something for Denny. Tom Hiddleston. Tom? Yeah, Yeah, yeah, he was in the night manager. But this morning Kayleigh Heart tongue at G M A had a story about the the Diana effect because people were going so crazy over these two photos yesterday that were released by the Crown. And it's just Elizabeth. Becky. Like lying. I'll show it for the YouTube When you do this. No one can hear you talking because I was listening yesterday to you and Brittany and Grant and you would be saying, Oh, I'm going to do this for the YouTube crowd and you go away from your mind. I try to pump up her mind. She's always what I'm gonna do this over here. I brought my Mike. I'm sorry. I was just thinking so, as you're talking to everyone is watching. Live right? We can hear you on the radio in the car. I might add. I enjoyed our show yesterday without Be on it Good. Which is gonna be good and could be bad in so many ways all years. Oh, no, It was just kind of fun, though. It was fun listening? Yeah, right now, the best not having done, you know. Right. Okay, so let's play. Let's play G M A. Let's play the they had a story about inside the public's fascination with the late Princess of Wales, introducing the latest reincarnation of Princess Diana. Review: The Crown Season 4

"Let's move on onto the crown. It's been about ten days most people who loved the crowd. I think we're done with the season. Sadly one of the season five do you know now for two years. Yeah because they filmed the two seasons together together usually with the cast. Because i think it's easier on production and then also with the cova of it all. I don't know when they will be able to start production so that there was a two year break between seasons two and three and i think there'll be more to your break. Who will you miss the most which actor being extremely honest. It's going to be joshua crowder for. I really am what a monster charles becomes in the second half of season four. And what an effect josh o'connor still has me. It's really quite something. I said this via text by the scene episode austrailia when they do the kind of the ballroom dance for the show which is a real event. I've seen a lot of side. By sides of the they got the close. Perfectly matched was so charming. I don't understand why all men don't learn how to dance ballroom dance because it was like ninety seconds and i'm sold completely infatuated. He can do whatever just absolutely despicable entitled selfish things. He wants to do for the rest of the season. And i'm like oh but this guy really charming. It's it's pretty sad. What happened with him and his family. Don't you think how about the australia episode again. Catch the chris ryan on the watch. Yes i thought it was effective. My i don't wanna say my struggle. Let me just say season for masterpiece. Love the show love all four seasons. Great great television will watch again. Can't wait it. This is a show about the crown. And honor show about princess diana and i know that intellectually but i hid obviously been waiting for the diana's season my whole life that sometimes i wanted a little bit more diana or just like there is a lot more to be told obviously it would be told from her perspective and it would just be a different show so i i hate criticism when they're like the show. Were another show. The australia episode was. I thought a very well done like condensation of the entire diana phenomenon into one also and in reality that like happened over a span of years and the up stage effect and everything that they kinda that they illustrate was was very real but develops over time. And it's like the media plays more of a role. And i think there is like a lot more stuff between charles and diana and you know there's all this stuff with What's going on with diana and her believe me and her family is shown and handled pretty sensitively but not always developed from her side. If that makes any sense yeah. I think if you also you read about her her mental health struggles were like it. Very extensive and it was went beyond believe me and i thought that like it was handled well but also like i think it's worth noting that there is also many other episodes throughout her life or at least heard adult life. Yeah exactly and i understand why because they are as loop says in the very last scene of the season. This is a show about one woman. And it's not diana it's about elizabeth and it's about that institution so and you could do one hundred episodes of the eighties in the uk. Like there's so much going on. So i understand the choices that they had to make narrative in order to fit it all in and i thought it did paint a like a pretty thorough picture. But i'm always gonna want more. I just really didn't care for her monologue on the plane about the baby. Not that i thought it was like. I'm not like she's wrong but i just thought that was like emigrants were seen. I was just like this is working for me. But i thought that the stuff with charles's was pretty good. Yeah i think. I continue to think. I'm a porn is like astonishing and i've been thinking a lot about what you said about how you're not a the huge a fan but that the performance kind of stuck out to you and i get and i think that that is really perceptive and for me kinda part of what makes it work. I don't want to say it's like intention early. But diana did not fit in to this family. It was like different energy. A different vibe. And there's a great line in the queen. Which is the peter morgan. movie about. Princess princess diana's death and the week after it. Which i recommend starring helen mirren great stuff as sort of like great crown prerequisite or if he also available on netflix. Right now justify But the character in the queen says you have to remember that there. Diana are diana or two completely different people. And i think the performance captures a lot of that and like the scene. Went diana's trying to hug the queen and they're they're talking at each other and it's not just that they have philosophical emotional differences but they just come from different worlds. they have different emotions different energies. It's like total total mismatch. And that's definitely part of the problem. So when she is making her stands are expressing her. Diana s. sometimes it's really heartbreaking and sometimes are like what are you doing. This is completely wrong as encapsulated that julia did not worry me about which i appreciate from spoiler episode perspective but from a personal perspective. The phantom of the opera video cassette was hilarious and excruciating and. I do think the first time. I like fully pulled the blanket up over my head when watching it. I didn't actually watch it. The first time i had to just kind of sit like that and know that it would end soon and then i read wound to watch the facial expressions that is bisciste. Yeah and i you know i don't. I don't think that happened in relaxed. Maybe it did. I've never read it. And i think i would remember it but really the billion joel performance israel israel. Yeah and it in caps elites. Maybe i think that poor diana who had a lot going on and as you said like a lot of mental health issues and believe me and didn't have any support like her family was not very helpful or totally absent in the case of the crown. But there were also some things that just really ideologies didn't align how about that and and that scene shows you why who it really is just like so much. I can't believe we're only gonna get one season about mc oran. I feel like i m not like her biggest fan but also feel like switching the diana character after one season. I don't. I'm not really in favor of but Must be a fairly significant time job. i'm curious to see how season five goes
