Or contract be fulfilled whether this is an a a truism or not they will absolutely use point to this Basically box office. I don't want to call it a failure because it's not a failure. They won the weekend But the but. The low box offers box office as opposed to their expectations They'll definitely point to this. As a reason why the movie didn't do well. They'll point to that and date release on tv whether it's a tr- whether it's a truism like i said or not there's still gonna use it as a as a as a battering ram for that because look the people in the industry do not like day and date. So i i think they're happy with that but i know they're not happy with the thirty million or they say it was thirty four million dollars thirty four thirty four At the box office. 'Jungle Cruise' Navigates Turning the Ride Into a Highly Enjoyable Trip
"To the movies. Next, Pirates of the Caribbean turned a theme park ride into a hit movie franchise. Disney is added again with Jungle Cruise Now in theaters and on Disney, plus and experience, riverboat captain takes a scientist and her brother on a dangerous ride down the Amazon River of all the jungle cruise as you could take. This one is the cheeks but also the most thrilling. It's the African Queen on steroids as Dwayne Johnson find swashbuckling chemistry with Emily Blunt, calling each other Skippy for skipper and pants for her part of feminism. Disney even wades into LGBTQ, plus waters with her brother with admirable matter of fact, this The villains are a little cliche with Jesse Plemons, stereotypical Nazi and BCG can kiss the door who feels derivative, Um, pirates of the Caribbean. "Back. we're here with dwayne johnson and emily blunt emily between jungle cruise and a quiet place. Two years sort of spearheading the return to theaters post cove. It and how nice is it to see people actually walking into theaters again. And why was it important for you and your wonderful husband to really remind people how great it is. I mean it is so exhilarating to what happened. And i think we knew we were taking a bit of a deep dive coming out in may and we was one of the first films to come out so we felt quite confident about it and then sunday two days before the release. Your suddenly like will people come. Will they come and you just. We just had moments of panic and then they came out in such support and with such passion. And you just realize that. It's in our dna this desire to experience things in a theatrical sense and no matter how long we've been cooped up indoors there's a need for togetherness to experience something in a big way in a big event style away so it was just thrilling. I'm so honored. And so though wound my soul. The people came out to support the film like that. It was huge. Great thing when you know you're scaring people and they're still coming out and going home alone going who that was great. It's wonderful and thank you for doing. I was just going to say from from our perspective in hollywood in in the circle. We were so rooting for emily and john and that entire weekend because that was the one that was going to kick off our business and and we all got our fingers crossed and they they did it in such an incredible way but you have such a great point because it's been a tough and challenging year for everybody around the world and to go back into the theaters to go get scared. That's rolling the dice man. You're absolutely right. What we'll be back and they loved the movie and they did a great job. Congratulations it was so fantastic. Yana howard in this audiobook. Only robot assists dr how it explores how the tech world's racial and sexual biases are infecting artificial intelligence with a profoundly negative affect. She's an amazing writer. And if you wanna understand why maybe your echo doesn't want to you the way that it should or your phone doesn't respond to you when you say. Hey look something up and it just ignores you. There's something to what she's written. And so i want everybody to check it out. I love this book so much love to it because it just gave me a different way to look at things book. Three is called the whiteness of wealth by dorothy brown. I picked this book because it really gave me a good understanding of how the taxes work in this country and why taxes seemed work a little bit differently for us and why we can't seem to catch up with other people's wealth patterns. She went to law school and realized that her parents a plumber and a nurse were paying an unusually high percentage of their income in taxes. And then she shows how the tax codes sort of reward the practices of white folks while seemingly pushing people of color further behind one of the great things she says in the book is because we were never seen to be wealth People who were going to make well. Nobody counts us in the same way and the tax cuts. They don't seem to work the same way. So more black families are being shut out of the american dream and she gives some really amazing reasons. I think that it has a great charm and has been one of the most iconic rides in the history of the park since nineteen fifty. Five win disneyland. I open. Here's some cool history for your viewers is that walt disney there is. He was very first skipper of the jungle cruise ride and he surprised aghast at that time and it was very cool so here we are years later. You know turning this iconic disney ride into a movie for families around the world to enjoy and you get lucky every once in a while you hope in a career that you can have a a movie like this. And and i got lucky with this one and i certainly got lucky with this one here less check better being normally he actually says things and i got really lucky working with this one but i would prefer godot. When scarlett johansson wasn't available. I think five names. Well emily since you're the one here and you made the cut. We're going to ask you about your character. Who is like a female version of indiana jones hat and all by the way and it feels like a throwback to those classic adventure movies of the eighties in the best way. Now i hear you used to love watching those with your family. Growing up i did. I was such a huge fan of those films. I just found them. They just encapsulated everything that i wanted to watch as a child that allure of travel somewhere exotic. You've got these rip roaring adventure and you just feel your take in some way you sort of kidnapped by the movie. I always felt that as a kid. And so indiana. Jones was a huge inspiration. Romancing the stone was another movie. I just loved as a kid. And this is a real amalgamation of all of them. All my movies were an inspiration to what's not really baywatch was not you know you can see this. Incredible chemistry This couple chemistry. Dwayne that both of you have you have it onscreen and apparently become really good friends in real life. And you say you've admired emily's work for a long time especially in the devil wears prada one of my favorite movies of all time and use specifically specifically recruiter for this film but emily. Carlson like that joy. Well i'm against public confrontations like that especially when you're in a hostile state of mind if you have something to say to me tweet it but you know. Don't come up to me with your hostility. If i don't like that. But i think that tucker probably thought that he was in his safe-space he's in some kind of fly fishing store in montana. I mean he figured everybody is there on his side wasn't but when you're feeling lies that cost people their lives. Actually no place is safe for him and people like him as for the vaccine. Now you know that tucker got the vaccine. I don't think that rupert murdoch would allow people in that fox building without all being vaccinated and yet he goes around. Vilifying the vaccine and saying lies about the vaccine's effectiveness which is very very dangerous. He's like the guy who's on a lifeboat wearing a vest or like on the titanic. He's wearing the vest and telling other people don't with this. This is what he thinks of his viewers. He's more interested in ratings and getting attention than he is in his viewers lives and there are people like this guy in montana who will not have it and the fact that he was very very nice about it. you'll notice. You've you've called tucker out for pushing vaccine misinformation. What did you think of him getting confronted in public like that. You know i agree with joy. I think when you are you at with your family and you're on vacation You you should be safe. You should be safe from being accosted or being confronted and so in that sense. I agree that something like that shouldn't happen but when you think about tucker carlson. He himself has said things like in april of this past year. This year took across and told his audience to harass people who wear face masks outside. He also said that members of the public should report parents to police and child services if they see children wearing masks as they play he said he called mask-wearing repulsive and set. The parents forcing their children to wear masks in public should be reported for child abuse. Any also told his viewers that it was their duty to report. And then just last week even though we've been seeing some fox news personalities now saying Listen you should get the vaccine. It saves lives took across in on the other hand contradicted his colleagues and told viewers to ignore medical advice on television. And he you know he averages three million viewers a night and so this is the type of thing that he's been up to all of this misinformation and i'm just not surprised that he was confronted by by someone that obviously viewed his show because he's encouraged that kind of behavior right. Megan is kind of confrontation than is ever justified. I know you've experienced this to what be because you experience something similar when we were working together on the show and i won't say what happened but you know it when you had an incident where people were coming up to you and we were all scared. i think the problem with any kind of rationale of this being okay as winston churchill quote that says just because the crocodiles eating them doesn't mean. It's not going to eat you next as incendiary as many people find tucker carlson find the women on this show equally incendiary for different reasons. So if it's okay should be expected. Maybe there's an expectation that wherever we go. It's okay for people to come up to us and scream things and day things and maybe you guys thought. That man was being polite. I thought he was being a total jackass and incredibly rude. And we're living in a time when people like steve. Scalise are being shot and wounded to the point that you don't know if they're there he's literally going to survive and now he has to walk with a cane because there are people that just aren't in control of themselves and aren't in control of their mental mental health and they want to take out their aggression on public figures. It's incredibly dangerous. I thought it was incredibly dangerous. When maxine waters said we should go up to public figures and get up in their faces. I think is a very very slippery slope. I know how much people don't like tucker carlson people equally. Don't like me megan mccain and joy behar sunny halston and whoopi and sarah. When you're putting your opinion out there you're making yourself a target. I now feel in my life Ben and i have to talk about what restaurants we feel safe going to. I think about what kind of places. I'm comfortable taking liberty to. I have to think about what kind of neighborhood i'm living in. Tucker carlson's wife wants barricaded herself in her home in their pantry and called the police because so many protesters were outside their home. Here in washington dc to try and a cost them. These are not. this isn't normal. And i think any rationalization this is normal or should be accepted in the united states of america is not only in decent. But it's beyond the pale of what should be any any expectation of any kind of decorum in a in a society. Like the united states of america and anyone that tries to rationalize it is gross. That man should apologize to tucker. Carlson and sarah. What did you think about the exchange. I don't agree with public confrontation at all. Because i think what we fight so hard for here in this country is that freedom to coexist peacefully. I'm not a fan of tucker says some pretty egregious things but you have to think of these situations if the table were were. Turn as we talk about The gun ownership of guns and people arming themselves and these kind of confrontations don't end well and although the man's words were calm he was up in his face a little bit. So as i watched it i felt uncomfortable. I don't believe in confronting people in public whether they be alone or with their family. That's what we fight for here in this country. And if i had a minute with tucker. And i could ask them thing. I wouldn't come at him cursing kind of i'd want ask like. Did you get the vaccine. Do you believe what you're saying. Like take that moment to get something from him But otherwise stay at home tweet from there because we just live in a divided time where we can't even sit with our families. at holidays. "Here in this movie i would actually say bogus journey makes more sense but the kind of abs odd places. They're traveling. I guess you could use back in time. Yeah you could definitely use a little of both for sure so yeah. I don't even know if i would call it looking forward to but i'll certainly be seeing that movie at some point. Snake is gi. Joe snake is july. Twenty third in theaters. Starring henry. Golding a spin off origins movie. Which i didn't even know this was a series that was still active to have spin offs of. I'm a little lost on this one. Jason are you fan of these movies kind of like that. I didn't see any of them. I obviously played with the toys and watch the cartoons growing up. But i didn't watch any of the movies. But when i was watching this preview for like the first two minutes and fifteen seconds what does this have to do with gi joe right. I kind of like that. Like it's like they're rebooting the whole thing at a very very distant level from what we know. Gi joe to be so kind of sold me. I'm like all right. Maybe this maybe this could be a thing so these action sequences. Look cool and yeah. I'm kinda interested. I mean when we think of like reboot where you know people have to travel to foreign lands to learn these fighting skills immediately. I think of the new mortal combat from this year the know shore and then x men first class because that's my favorite of those origin story superhero movies. So i went there now okay. Those are interesting puzzle pieces for sure. I don't know what to make of the story here. So that's a little hard to like kind of pick up on. I guess we'll see. I definitely looking forward to this. I think the action scenes look incredible. Honestly and i like henry golding. I think he's a. He's a good star as far as pieces already brought up john week today but i'm going to bring it up again but specifically john wayne joe chapter three. Which as you know is my favorite of the series. The movies are obviously inspired by asian cinema but You've got the the kind of like beautiful neon tin cinematography. And just just crazy over the top stunt work. I think that that third one really is the tops for that kind of thing. The other thing. I thought of are the most recent entries in the fast and furious series. Where in theory. This is the real world. These characters are all in yet. They're basically acting like superheroes in their abilities and what they can do and just how insane at all is. And that's what i connect with. That's why i think it looks great. Okay but the new rule for the next two months. You're not allowed to bring up john wick on this show. That is absolutely correct Yeah and i don't know when was the last time you watch the pirates of the caribbean movie. Probably the second. Pirates of the caribbean theater. I recently i go to fitness as my gym now and they have a cinema room or you can watch movies wall on various cardio equipment and i saw two of these movies at the gym. Just recently is my first time since the theater too and they really are a lot of fun especially those first two. Now when you're in this theater when you're in the cinema room you are you there the whole time because that's a two and a half hour movie. Did you watch the whole movie. I did not watch the whole thing. No i watched about an hour of each one. And but that our i mean and i could see how to and ours is way too long for any of these smoothies to be and hopefully jungle cruises in two and a half hours but there are a lot of fun to while they're happening and i guess it is a good blueprint to try to follow for them to try to make another fun. You know action adventure movie like this and it's nice to see the rock. Do something that you know already. Imprinted ip or franchise thing because he's always taking risks making all these original films and he never gets involved with franchises. So it's nice to really see him going to totally opposite direction than what we've seen the last fifteen years of career be one hundred percent right sort of so. Yeah no this looks fun. And then Bring up brendan fraser again. Who is in no sudden. Move the mummy. His movies remind a lot of those. So yeah it's very very yeah. We love brendan fraser. Exciting great to see him back and he's going to be another new aronovski movie. Which i think is in december. Unless it's next year. I think you december but yeah very excited for this though even though like you said it's not normally the kind of thing i'd be sitting here at claiming to be excited about. I'm not very excited. "Back to those characters which I mean, you know, I it's hard to get upset about Emily blunt. Starring in a new movie because she's so great and Krispy being behind the camera again because he did such a good job. You know, crafting the visual language of this movie. And the, you know overseeing the really like the unique theatrical experience that everybody had about it. We talked about how that was like one of our public collective favourite theatrical experiences as a as a site last year like watching that movie and having that these such a special thing. So the idea that they'll come come back for more is interesting and potentially exciting. But you know, I it certainly goes against everything that we've heard over the past several months, you know, from let directly from the horse's mouth. So it's a sort of a fascinating development here. You know, another reason this confuses me is because you know, spoilers for a quiet place, but for the next minute, but at the end of the movie, they kind of figure out the the monsters. We straight. So now that they have this knowledge going forward, if feels like it's a lot less thrilling, right? Yeah. Unless they become you know, sort of revolutionaries who like travel the country or maybe the world like spreading this knowledge to everybody in like, you know, freeing people from the scourge of these aliens, I I'm not really sure the scope of what this thing is going to be I'm I'm really just sort of stunned at the the complete one eighty and direction on this issue. What do you think about this news? I think it's interesting that he did the one eighty I'm not angry about going back to these characters because I did like them. But I'm not sure where they can go from here except to just completely change the the story structure completely, and yeah, I don't really know. I was interested to see like. Where they would go with a a new family, but it's I can see them pulling sort of like a stranger things in that stranger things was meant to be in series. But they got so attached to characters of the you know, they had to go back to them. So yeah, I'm I'm still interested because Christie's did such a great job with the first film and Emily blunt. It'll be really cool to see her do. So I'm sort of like Terminator two turnaround with this age interesting future where he's like now like total bad ass. Yeah. I'm also wondering what do you think there's at all the possibility of them doing kind of like scream swerve where like the the movie starts off with them. And then becomes not about them. I'll be kinda mad because then the kill off. Emily. The I five minutes. The world somewhere. I can't believe I didn't think about that sooner Peter because that strikes me as actually the most plausible thing because of how much Christine ski has been talking about that other approach for so long. It seems like by bringing them on. This is the perfect opportunity to set up a swerve like that. And yeah, just kill everybody. You know, make a big deal about how they're all. Coming back all the actors are coming back kill them off in the first five minutes. And then you're able to focus on the story that he's been talking about telling for the past few months.
