"I know his drafting has been spotty, but we could get lucky this year. He can log. Shoot the barrel and we could Elliot and Merrick were talking about how you're going to see a lot of great talent taken out of taking in this draft in later rounds just because there's not enough money scouting being done of these prospects. Yeah, very true. All right. I had something that was going to say and I totally forgot but that happens a lot in old age. Don't get don't get old home. Yeah. Yeah. All right. So moving on and this is a popular topic now once we're there because Twitter can be a dumpster fire some time. Is it time to panic wage is is it time to hit the panic button on this Boston Bruins organization some in the fanbase seem to think blowing everything up and starting fresh is the way to go. What are your thoughts sir? I think that the management and the Bruins organization has way too much loyalty to Bergeron Tuukka. Krejci, the core that we have. You've seen it in the Years. Have these guys over the other guys for a reason they wanted to rebuild on the Fly. They knew these guys still had it you got Elliott Friedman talking about how Dawn Sweeney his loyalty to these guys found that he doesn't see any time soon. He says as long as Bergeron into car good to go there going for it every year. It's the same thing as the Crosby Malcolm. Milk and soy Dynamic if you got a truck with the guys that you have until they can't do it anymore..

"NHL Elliott Friedman of sports net up in Canada is reporting that according to multiple sources. The NHL and its players. Association are working to finalize a twenty four team conference based playoffs set up. Now the way it would work is the League would return. With twenty four teams qualified for the playoffs twelve in each conference, the top four seeds based on poise percentage would get a bye, and then they would bracket the rest of each conference five against twelve six against eleven, and so forth and those first round series would be best of five. Meanwhile the teams that get buys would play. A best of three tournaments just to be playing a little bit so that when they play the second round against the teams that win the first drive best of five. It's not a team. That's got some games under its belt against the team. That's coming off a three month or whatever turns out to be hiatus. So I. Don't understand it if you get a by then you have to play three games or three. Three. You're not eliminated. You're just playing to play. You're you're playing the other by teems? Yes, they're just playing to get the work in to get the Reps. So that, you know if you're the you're the first place team and end up playing a team that just won a best of five and five games. They've played five games and you haven't played since March the tenth or whatever they don't. They don't want that kind of thing to unfold. So that's what they are looking at ESPN reports that to hub cities would be used no word on what cities those actually are but it would be a sequestering of everybody in two different locations, and you go from there. Brian Duma the penguins. has spoken this month about how he's ready to get back on the ice and he doesn't care for say hub city hub cities whatever it takes. Doolan is willing to do whatever it takes to get back into game. That's obviously a lot of scenarios being played out and That's why I'm not taking anything for granted right now. Being home with my family and I'm enjoying every moment of it. Obviously if that's. What all besides in what we decide than that. That's what we do and we go there. And we focus on winning a Stanley, Cup and that's our goal had at point. It's it's. It's a in We got to try to get back and and try to become a team and tobacco on the ice and get touches and and try to do everything we can to try to win a Stanley Cup and that becomes the main focus stand, but right now I mean today tomorrow enjoy the time with family and can try to work out in become better hockey player as much as I can. Probably Doom and speaking this month on one of those zoom teleconferences. The Penguins would get the Montreal Canadians. Under such a format in first-round best-of-five, the by teams in the east. would be the Bruins, lightning, capitols, and flyers in the West would be.

"Pretty went to the podcast, Merrick long said Elliott Friedman, please be joined by the Commissioner of the NHL inters-, the Hockey Hall of fame class of two thousand eighteen first of all congratulations. Thank you, one of the things that's never been lost on me. Personally, Gary about you is there are two words. I seldom if ever hear you say, oh me. And I you talk about us, and you talk about we allot, but I wanna ask you about you. But it's never about me. That's why going into the hall of fame is about us. So here's a question. Why in your estimate, why do you think you're on your way to the Hockey Hall of fame? Why are you in based on what I've heard since? I got the phone call is it's been the growth of the game over the last twenty five plus years. But again that was an all me that was a team effort and the strength of the game and the strength. Of our league and the growth of hockey worldwide is testament to literally hundreds if not thousands of people starts with the players. It starts with all the people that were off the ice with the aim its ownership. This is a collaboration that has grown the game. And I guess if I get some of the credit for it. I'm not going to for one minute believe it's all about me not gonna let you off the hook. When you began when you first over as Commissioner of the NHL is go back to ninety three. It was a small staff small office. How much do you feel like a firefighter there were a lot of fire drills going on? But but but I wasn't under any allusions. I understood where the NHL needed to modernize. I understood where things needed to be changed. I understood it was going to take some time. It wasn't going to be like throwing a light switch. But also understood. At least believe that's why I was brought in. I've always wondered anyone tell you not to take the job. Anyone say don't do. This David Stern said you don't have to do this. We could stay here with me forever at the NBA. But I wanted to do this love the game and to have the opportunity to put my vision in my using me for you, Jeff. But the fact is I had a vision as to what we could. And should be doing a game in his league. And I thought this was an awesome opportunity to be a part of something that I was huge fan of theirs. Two stories about you that I've heard and I really like and I wanna ask we'll find out. I know one is true. I've never asked you about the other by no one is true. I think they show the two sides of you number one is the Adnan kashogi story and for those people who are not familiar with him. He is. Saudi. He was a Saudi arms dealer who died last year, and he tried to buy the Utah Jazz wants and urine meeting with him in the NBA, and you said to him what was a long time ago..

"Call brutal. So when the swelling goes down in the fingers, let's get back to Elliott Friedman. Yeah. But for those that don't know him. I mean, he's worked with a number of NHL help the change their game worked with the Washington Capitals. Of course, the head coach he has been the center of some controversy. Yes. Coaches don't like their players necessarily getting outside help. Yes. Specifically someone that can profoundly changed the way a player plays in a way the way a player thinks about the game. What does Adam Oates bring to Los Angeles Kings? We're gonna say, well, let's talk about some of that stuff. I so the real flash point was Minnesota few years ago. With Ryan Suter and Zach Parise and Suter and Mike Yeo publicly came out and complained about it to Michael Russo who is one of the reporters out there, and it was not at the leading. Then he was to let the Star Tribune. So I call them up. And I said look like this is what this guy saying about you. And what do you have to say for yourself? And you know, we talked about it. You know, I said to him, you know, people think you're coach killer a bit here that you're going out there. And you're doing exactly what you just said, Jeff and teaching them things that are not in the philosophy of the team. And he got mad. I got mad at the call in the you know, there was a pretty nasty exchange between me and him. And you know, finally just say that I'm, you know, this is out there like at some point in time, you're going to have to deal with this. And he finds plays not a chance not a chance not a chance. Remember, the quote, am I trying to still somebody's job? And so I wrote it, and I got a lot. Like when I write thirty thoughts..

"And we just got an update on some of the specifics. But. A couple days ago. There was a video secretly filmed. During an Uber ride of several Ottawa Senators players, ripping their team and coaching staff. So now, we find out that the driver was reportedly angered about not getting ticked this. According to sports net Elliott Friedman. So the drivers started shopping the video on Twitter to a variety of reporters writing in his pitch that the players were quote, cheap entitled kids and of all the people he reached out to apparently none of them bit. Probably a lot of them feeling. It was most likely either illegal, or at least inappropriate to film players without their knowledge, but the Ottawa citizen picked it up ran the video and a story along with with just a staff byline, which was worth noting puck, daddy, noting that that means under the reporters really wanted their name on it. But the newspaper clearly wanted it up a lot of clicks. I'm sure on that video of now, the senators are. Are demanding that the citizen take down the video. There's lawyers representing the team sending a letter to the citizens saying it was recorded in posted without consent. It's not a matter of public interest. And you know, I'm sure the driver is getting some responses as well fits. I mean, it's never really great idea to rip on your coaching staff. But doing it in Uber like that feels like a safe space. And I think that's immediately. I'm sitting there saying what conversations have had over because I mean, there are more more numbers that do this. They film, and and sometimes it's for the drivers safety. Sometimes it's for everybody's protection. They wanna have footage afterwards. In case. Anything happens is sort of clarifies whatever's happening in the car. I I know some drivers that have installed cameras for that purpose. But it does raise a just a huge question on on. Are you being taped to the new because you know, you make a great point? I wouldn't know if I was being taped. And a lotta times let's face it. I do because I'm being a responsible citizen, which means when I get in the back. I'm d rock. I am MD wrong home. Now, it's more just sometimes always. But I mean, I'm moving because I'm in no condition to drive. So my my filter is gone. And I'm just laying MAC their mother got get me home. So I don't know, you know, I can only imagine what I've said in the back of a new ver I I don't know but out now, you gotta watch you gotta stung Sarah Spain and Jason Fitz at Spain and Fitz on ESPN radio. I mean, I guess we have to presume if you're in a car of any kinda taxi Newburgh, whatever that the drivers probably listening, right to whatever your conversation is I occasionally in fact on Halloween, I got into as dressed as a jellyfish because of the amazing video reggae shark..

"About the podcast, Geoff Merrick, Elliott Friedman before we get to the Eastern Conference, someone that we're all gonna miss around hockey, both on the ice and off it, whether he's holding stick or other as a a microphone in his face. Henrik Zetterberg joins thirty one thoughts podcast, Eric, thank you so much for doing this. And I think we'd all heard the whispers over the summer and but until can haul and came out and said, he's not gonna play in the NHL anymore. His NHL career is over. I think we are all sort of surprised and saddened. What was it like hearing that discussed publicly that you wouldn't be coming back to the h. l.. It was kind of surreal when it all came public should probably figure out, you know, I lived in for a little bit in all started in January last year when it kinda went south and you know, we took the decision just to play games and let me rest, no practice. And hopefully this summer would would make it better, but it kinda dented. But when it all came out there Friday all this -ly it kinda hit me and stored a sinking. I'm curious. You know when you were going through this in the summer and you add to make your file decision, who did you ask for advice who'd you talk to who went through the process with you to make the final decision. Well, last couple of years, all these spin up and down and you, you have people that that helps you your body that knows more about your body than than you do. And and so this Lee, you have discussions with them, you talk to to your family because they probably being they wanna stuff in cmih. Close to most? No one I'm gone through so, but also eventually when I went to see dog to commit any organ and and we kinda got it black or white again that that nothing really going to right way that's on the stood. Finally, that this was probably the only way to go. You mentioned all sort of sort of Ravel free back in January, whether any games Henrik that at the end, you got back to the dressing room and you sat down, you said yourself. I'm not sure I should have played that game. I think once you're you're in the game or right after game, you have stuff in you that that kinda makes you the better feeling better..

I would say the more likely twenty thirty range sixty points I I think that? It's. More a second line center I I think that's still an excellent traits Trade excellent pickup and also to you Or year Sign a long term deal like that Per year for second line Especially it's not that bad I look for what's called stack knee will be. Earning with the bowl, tonight so what do you what? Do you think happens Carlson you think they end up going to arbitration It's tough? Because what we saw Elliott Friedman released what Is asking for from Winnipeg and Different Bush seven million Winnipeg is Watson offering four and I They liked. That wouldn't surprise me if there's, a bit, of golf what I would say is that let's say let's say that To that. With William Carlson let they watch give him about four and then. William watch about seven I would, tend to, give little bit Closures, at stake longer term deal because like I said six million, dollars deal for. A guy that I'm. Not sure if he's the first. Player but after watching Milwaukee last year Still very confident that, is a second line player athlete And so with that for years not? That that what do you think he'd get an arbitration I think I think he would he would, get into, five five range five to six range but only for a couple of years that of course that's the question that he blows up, and then you're in trouble because if you, come anywhere close to what. He did last year nineteen forty, goals for letting, at thirty range we start talking about him Ten or eleven yeah yeah So the Tomasic nationalistic deal it's one year. Less than a million dollars is, that the best value deal the Golden Knights, have made this? Off, season Oh good question Holden deal I I'm working. On a piece I think he's..

"Elliott friedman talked about the league's interest in seattle and why it's an elite market for the nhl despite all the teams already here circa one thing i do wonder about it they've got a major league baseball tune they've got the western hockey league is your mention they've garden nfl team the seat arturo power right now they're they're soccer team is like there's some studies were soccer's big and there's some cities where it's not as big was big in seattle and we've also got their college teams you know what university of washington and with this arena coming back they're probably not only gonna get nhl but they seem ontrack for an nba team to look that's alive that's a lot for a scenes support but there's a lot of money there um they've all the old one of the things i do know is that they've done a lot of research into seattle over the years and they've always believed it would be a market that would support hockey like this is not something that's a allow seattle possibility you know we haven't really looked into it they've looked into it a lot uh over probably the last ten to fifteen years and and one thing about it it's like a lot of places in the west it's it's got attack money and it's got good tech money so so it's a wealthier city of the only thing that concerns me about is just how many teams there are our let's nhl insider elliott friedman now another sports net analyst steven brown says the nhl to seattle it's a done deal if i were buried ma'am i would bet at resign iud bitcoin's everything i.
