Ellen Bennett: Are You Creating a Product People Actually Want?
"Up. I we've got our conversation with ellen. She got her start by saying we're going to make the best aprons ever which was a bold move considering she didn't even have a business. Yeah i have. I had a passion about it. I was needing it myself. So is very much a situation where i wanted to fix the problem i had and i was also working at two of the best restaurants in. La and their uniforms were terrible like they were paper apron. They didn't fit well. Nothing was practical about it and yet it was such a commodity like nobody thought to make it better. And i wanted to make a better and so i started with this dream or kind of north star which was make the best apron that there can be full stop period. I wasn't thinking about. Is this going to be wholesale is this can to be retailed. Dita a be. None of that was part of the equation. I was simply like obsessive on the idea of making something that worked. And i'm actually really glad that i started it that way because it helped me focus on what was important which to your point is fantastic. Product like fantastic product lifts all ships if you will if you have a great product. You're going to be successful if you're fixing a problem but if you have great marketing and not agree product like little harder to make it happen out there. Great marketing will just make a bad product fail faster. And i love that idea. You've got to start with a great product and when you first started You had what you call a grit a willingness to fail in the courage to stare errors in the i. I love that. There's a theme and all of that. So tell me how all of that connects when it comes to creating great product absolutely similar to your to your first point on the humble azam. I was always willing to talk to people but also willing to learn. That's my formula for humble enthusiasm and when you think about success it's includes a lot of failure and the failure part are where you learn the most so every time i delivered an order. That wasn't perfect. I learned something. And i was getting something from it and my willingness to stare errors in the i helped the evolution of the product because instead of ignoring people in saying no. It's not actually. It's on you like you probably just didn't wash it right. I would say you're right. We're so sorry about that. we will take it back. We'll fix it and it made all the

"We actually cause it to go beyond into England and eventually into America. So Why don't we do that route car, you know, And then we can maybe get back to the issue. The real issue of what you stayed all the time, Which is Father's outside of the home, You know, Children born out of wedlock. Cannot say they love what you do, man. Give up the good work. I thought June team. I haven't heard what should be the real message. Those poor people suffered. An extra two years slavery because the Democrat slave owners did not tell them they had been treed by the first Republican president. So here's the message of Juneteenth. Then, as now Democrats who have power over black people do not want those black people to realize they are free. So celebrate. Celebrate Juneteenth Celebrate Freedom! Levy! Larry! As we reflect on the significance of what this day symbolizes. Let's keep fighting to address the lasting consequences of slavery. Next up. Reparations. End of quote. She's from Somalia, right? Isn't that an area of Africa where a great deal of slave trade was what's going on? I've talked to you about the fact that the Muslim slave trade out of Africa started hundreds of years before the European slave trade did took more slaves out of Africa. With a much higher death rate, because many times the slaves were Pushed on foot across the Sahara, where there was an 80%. Attrition rate. We're also gonna talk later on. But white being told they must pay $50 reparations to attend a Seattle park event. All of that, and more. Again. Brian Stelter is the Media critic. Of CNN. Trump hater, Fox News hater Hannity hater. He goes on C SPAN and took a series of phone calls. And they were brutal. I just had a call in because I think CNN is so liberal and I night Fox is great. I think that it's important that CNN cover all the news not from a liberal point of view, not from a conservative point of view from reality based point of view, that's our job. If we fall down on the job we want to know. And we want the feedback. Yes, I'd like to ask Brian Two on national television, admit he and his network or a bunch of liars about Donald Trump. The inspector. Tell me the light came out. Can you tell me what the lie is that he cleared that Protest out so he could be there. That was a lie that you and your network told and That's all I gotta say. You can't stand all right. That's Gordon this morning, Brian Stelter. The inspector general report is a big story that we've been covering on air. And, of course, all the networks have this inspector general report about the clearing of Lafayette Square up at Park. Um Mr Stelter is the biggest minister of misinformation I have ever heard. And I'm a news junkie. This gentleman told the American people in his news organization, which he was pretty much had control over for four years that there was Russia collusion and Actually, After all, the 35 $40 million have been government investigation come to find out there was 00 collusion. For from the Trump Administration and Russia. But Chris He's such a bipartisan, Um what he called him. What'd he just say? He made the statement just a few minutes ago that he is All the stories are always evolving. His stories absolutely evolved. Brian Stelter. Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it. I think it is important that we all focus on what we do know to be true. The ties between Trump and Russia are significant. They were significant. It was a really important story. There is evidence of collusive behaviour of willingness to collude. There actually is still more information coming out now, even though Trump is out of office. I respect your opinion that you don't believe there was collusion. I believe that we went through impeachment processes we went through while.
COVID Lockdowns and Social Anxiety
"Curious as somebody who's really specialized in social anxiety. What has the overall impact of covid been. Has it been great because People who are have any degree of social anxiety you know. I would put myself on the spectrum. There is a mild social anxiety Well then then you don't have to deal with the what makes you anxious or is a terrible. Because avoidance is What puts all of our anxieties on steroids. Yes oh my gosh. Magic word avoidance so. The answer is both so short term. I think the pandemic has given people with social anxiety or introverts or folks who are shy and all of that can overlap. There can a big ven diagram of everybody. Just mentioned has given everyone permission to opt out or to not have to force ourselves to go to the gender reveal party or the holiday party at work. so it's been a nice break. I have talked to several clients and friends and colleagues. Who have kind of like leaned in. And said i love. This is the best. I hope we never go back. As as if this is illegal. You know and so short term. It's been a nice reprieve long-term. it's not so great. Because as you said avoidance is a primary driver of social anxiety and so you know rightfully so we have all been avoiding normal social life for more than a year and just like behavior can follow mood. We can do things we feel like doing mood. Also follows behavior so over the pandemic as we see ourselves behaving in ways that suggest social avoidance isolation withdrawal our thoughts and feelings follow
Marking Your Territory, Elderberries, and Hydrangea Color
"Think we should start out with true or false ellen. It is about peeing in the garden to keep critters away. I have very mixed feelings about this. I have used predator urine in my garden in pennsylvania. I don't know if did a darn bit of good. I really don't but i'll tell you it smelled pretty darn bad. So if i were a bunny or a deer. I would not have gone near that stuff. It's interesting that We're starting with predator urine. Because i have very strong feelings about this and that is i cannot believe that this is collected in a humane way new. And you can't find any. They will not tell you how it's like. Well how it has to be as collected is they have to keep the coyotes or these fox in little pens with wire floors so that when they urinate goes down into a trough or something so it can't possibly be a humane thing so i am not in favor of using predator urine in the garden. Unless you're encouraging the coyotes and the to hang out and peeing your garden. Naturally that i'm all in favor of. I use the fox here in once i started looking into says this can't be good. This cannot be good but there are also people who will. Pd the borders of their garden in hopes of keeping deer and bunnies away. And i've read mixed things about this but well. i think i wouldn't encourage anybody to urinate too close to their vegetable garden or or things that you're going to eat that just kinda makes good sense that you don't want to bring you know harm on yourself in terms of bacteria tetra. That's why we carry waste away both either down into septic systems or sewage treatment plants.

How is Prince Harry So 'Normal'?
"It's so crazy to me that we're in this world. Where prince harry's like casually on dax shepard's podcasts. That would never have happened a few years ago and to me that is such a small thing but it's so representative of really there into la life. Into hollywood i don't wanna say into normalcy because none of this is normal but just even the ability to be able to go on a podcast. Which would have never happened interesting. That you say this shift into normalcy. Because that is the thing that always surprises me about prince harry especially with what we've seen of him recently. The interview with oprah the new show us with over coming out about mental. Health carpool karaoke. He did the normalcy of him. Is it just catches me off guard every single time and obviously his life whether it was a royal life or in. La life is not normal by any means. But there's just something about what he's saying and the way he speaks and the references he makes and the things. He's aware of in terms of media and entertainment. It just catches me off guard. Because i don't expect him to be aware of any of those things when you think of prince harry in the lifestyle that he's lived. And what your view of the royals are you. Expect that all of these funny references that he makes talking about joe rogan talking about when he was games courtney new the fresh prince of bel air themes on you expect these things to be things that are just go over his head entirely because he wouldn't be aware of them and so for him to be talking about these things in such a normal way was my biggest takeaway from the whole interview.

Tv doesn't change your life. It exposes you for the person that you really are. I'm not sure that all the guests are happy. I was a guest. I wasn't happy. She seems like the type of person that would come out on stage and announce to everybody and people are looking at the tv issue saying like what what what just happened the ease at which windy just spills t. She's just like i wasn't happy what we do. Those super cuts of wendy. Just telling it like it is is my favorite thing and you know what it is. It's because of her radio experience. She can just flow like no one else and by the way she is saying what everyone is thinking and does not hold back. I love watching her hurting. This is why we watch wendy. Williams could watch an hour of wendy's sitting in that purple chair by herself with no

Couple of USB port, four years, in fact, HDMI. It's powered off a USB C charger, which I think it came, I think it gave me the cable, it didn't come with a charger but that's okay. Cuz I got plenty of life. It's got eight gig of RAM on. This particular board is pretty production board, it's an audio interface Wi-Fi. Bluetooth not everything works yet. And some things are a little bit up and down because wage So people have had the boards for like, two weeks. So yeah, it's it's early days but it's super fascinating. So this sounds like a real sort of community outreach Endeavor to actually sort of Leverage, the power of community to sort of, do the hardware bring up on this device. Yeah, they've got a beagle of got a slack, a community. And they've also got wage, of course. And on discourse, it's super active. Every time I go there, there's new threads and there's conversation going on. A very friendly conversation and there's Drew from the beginning of organization is you know, corralling people and making sure we're not, you know, overlapping and you know not doing things as per month. Payments of the of the project really I wouldn't have a porting some of the applications that I've made a snap. So I wanted to make them available as risk five years Unfortunately, there's some blockers in the way and I have to wait for some of the ability people to do their stuff. So I'm going to look at some other things in the meantime at the moment. I'm just really playing with it fascinating. I suppose it's worth pointing out of the oven to have been bringing up risk five in the archive, for a couple of years now and I well last I heard it was mostly there. Maybe Ellen knows more. Yeah, it is, but it's very much like, you know, bringing up a new arm board. Most of the packages are built for the architecture, but there's Harbor enablement to do to. You know, make sure you get something aught serial interface, and make sure you can talk to the HDMI port and all that kind of stuff. And there's there's new Hardware in this thing. So, you know, it's there's a, there's a bit of enablement to do that, but looks like the Border in the right half of lots of different people and me. Brilliant
Ellen DeGeneres Says Workplace Scandal Was "Orchestrated,"
"Start with ellen. Degeneres she is talking about those claims. She ran a toxic workplace yesterday. She announced that she's ending her talk. Show and listen to what she admitted on. Nbc's today i really didn't understand it. I still don't understand it. It was to orchestrate it it was too coordinated and you know people get picked on but for four months straight for me and then for you know for me to read in the press about a toxic work environment. When when all i've ever heard from every guest that comes on the show is a happy atmosphere. This is and how what a happy place it is. All right. that is a lot that is something going on. What did you guys think about this. Are you feeling bad for elin. Now that she's playing the victim. I mean it was. I will say like it was intense. It was a lot. It was. And i think you know. Unfortunately people love to watch someone's fall from grace right. People love to watch the person who said be kind get taken down for toxic behavior right so everyone was in on it but i mean i think it's something that we have heard about for a while. It wasn't a secret
Sobriety After the Pandemic
"So i have been working from home for the past fifteen months I'm not been to church in person. I have avoided large gatherings. Basically all the cdc recommendations so my little world has been very sheltered. Mike a lot of you and one of the things that i'm noticing is i'm able to go out a little bit. More now. is that being around. People requires a muscle and that muscle that was used to the constant stimulation of being around large groups of people and the noise and the visuals the input of colors and sound and the output of conversations and interacting well that muscle hasn't been exercised in over a year. And as i'm going out now. I'm realizing that being out in the world takes a lot of energy adamy. That muscle is super weak right now and already. I get to a point where i've got about an hour or two in me before my anxiety gets triggered and i need to go somewhere quiet. Imagine taking a long nap in a dark cave and then you leave your cave. You immediately enter the front doors of a las vegas casino with all the lights. And the sounds bombarding you. It's overwhelming right. Just that visual overwhelms me. And that would take some time to acclimate to and that's just what it feels like to me lately. And if feels like that for me then i know it feels like that for some of you to and that's a key factor to acknowledge before we even get into the alcohol part of this conversation as you re enter the world and social settings that you used to be in with alcohol. You're probably gonna feel overwhelmed at first and that's not because you're not drinking. It's because that interaction muscle is out of shape. It's gonna take a hot minute before your senses acclimated to the world in the way that they used to be. It's going to take some exercising that muscle and building it up over time to feel stronger so it's important to acknowledge that if you're feeling anxious that's not just because you're not used to being in a social setting without alcohol that's because you're not used to being in a social setting period.

"Okay. Okay someone else in the room know well sometimes okay so you get down on all fours and you put your leg up l. with right and the I'm just do it up like that. I know right I know that one fire hydrants. Yes these are like not new thing. Then I've got a Khulumani Times. You do that up in the air. Three sets of twenty five twenty five right and then I have a power played and you. Do you do squats. What's your just do the old fashioned things and I have to confess I do zoom zoom? Oh you do it at home. Yeah I would like to see that. No okay she brings out like the silly side of Ellen Ellen in a way that a lot of guests don't we were saying like her and Michelle Obama. They don't put up with her shenanigans right. They throw it right back on her face and he just loves it it. It's so fun to watch her. As producers servers we always love when. Someone's out there and Challenges Ellen pokes her little well share shares. Very confident in who she is and what she does and she doesn't need to take any any grief from Ellen and she knows literally the opposite of me literally you see share onstage rehearsing or song and you go like my God She has been doing this forever. She is like the consummate professional knows. Exactly what to do has incredible comic timing and just it just brings it so now. Kevin had a brilliant idea that none of us thought would actually happen in which he was overdue for. We have but dr dry bar next to my favorite drinking place. Don Kuko's Lisa Industry Chip Kevin Leong Kuko's and get blow out not worried about you're going to say so. Yeah dry bars just opened and of course share play stylist and Mermaids Ellen has hair so who better better team to go and surprise people there and have them do their blowouts and Ellen and share and I was like there's no way share it's going to go with L. into the dry bar and blow hair covering the reaction to the folks in the drive bar when the door opens and Ellen and share walk into the brand new dry bar into Luca Lake it was awesome is fantastic. Share share instantly. Said yes ellen got early to do it. It was so much fun. We shot it and cut it all on the same day. I think we're putting the whole thing up on ellen tubes you can definitely see the whole thing there if he were sure. I wrote the car with share over there. And Kinda pissed her through some ideas he wanted to do and told her where we had some whigs hidden but and he was a little shaking voice and Kevin never gets nervous. A little shaky shakey celebrities. Still Shaky made me happy. It was fun. And like that's the coolest thing about our job is like Kevin Leman grew up loving share air and now he's producing her in comedy piece so it really is a cool job and it never gets old to me. Mary tell the story of Kevin Leman. I'm so glad you asked Ed so Kevin Kevin Leman came to us out of the NBC page program. He began as really sort of just a young man who was mostly straight or confused with his sexuality is surgery but yeah great. We hired him. I believe as a production assistant assistant and he was a producer's assistant. He did a number if things very quickly he became a writer after submitting some material to Alan how many years before he became a writer too so so meteoric but we were you need in the first few weeks of the show well. He appeared on the very first episode of the Ellen. Degeneres show great because he's an amazing. He's an amazing artist. Full face He became a writer he then became the head writer. And in that you become the head writer so two years in. We're starting our sixteenth season in in season. Three you became a writer and then when did you become the head writer. I think officially seasons seven long story Short Kevin is now an executive producer. Ellen made him yeah okay all right okay. That's pretty much. And he's an EP when I was young and I'm old. But here's what's interesting Ed. How long have we all been together at the Ellen Degeneres Show sixteen years? We've been here since the beginning. Yeah never never. This is really the first time anyone who wanted to hear what we've had to say. I'm not sure if they want to marry. Oh well that's the first time we're at this point we have zero listeners. Left Kev. There was such an amazing moment in that piece. There's such an incredible moment. If you know sixteen years years in it feels like everything has happened but how often does someone call Ellen a word. LYNN LOVES COMES TO TO POKE POKE POKE and push buttons and share put up with it for a while and then just unleashed a little bit on Ellen in a way that made made Ellen Laugh her head off.

"Story. We talked about at seventy two years. Old How great share look. Oh my gosh. Her is insane her but so insane Ellen Aster about her but and in sixteen years. I'm not sure I've ever seen that happen. Share her. Can I tell people how old you are. Yeah can you believe she's seventy two years old the work out a lot you do every day not every day but a lot of times. Okay I need to ask ask because we were tired here. See me doing a plank with the Harry Smith. No well it was good. He quit before I did. How long can you do a plank for well I I once I did five minutes but I'll never do that again? Wow but I could do it for two two minutes with sweat yet. Michelle Obama Obama wants to challenge because we did pushups and she's now like she said plank is her thing. I think she could do it for five minutes. You should challenge Michelle weight the because we were watching in rehearsal and we were talking about your ass and I need to know what you do. We want to know. So your butt exercises. Well I have a number of them like like okay. Okay so this is sounds so dumb because when I say the first thing I know you're GonNa do something really not. Yes you are. Well try you so you get done. I'll force.

"John. About what it was like for Johnny. She was great. Tell she has done. She hadn't done an interview on how long three years to three years, and she chose to come and sit down and do one with Ellen. And it was as if not a day had gone by she's been on this show. What now when you say she chose. I mean we. But she she she. My question is, is she hadn't done? Us in a while, but she had been a regular here. We had our at the beginning of a career her Annell, and it was like one of the most enter -taining interviews this year. Absolutely. And there's so many good parts about Ellen and her talked about shaving legs and washing legs may talked about what else. I know it wasn't your second. They talked about. They talked about cats cats. Of course, they talked about the cats. They talk about Easter eggs and Easter egg. I didn't know what he starts. About. Little hints. Yeah, I know that she drops. And they talked about Jonas, Kevin how. Taking she listen, take a listen to Taylor swift talking with Ellen about Joe Jonas. What is the most rebellious rebellious thing? You did as a teenager. Probably. When I put Joe Jonas on blast on your show. That was too much. Yeah. That was too much. Okay. I was eighteen. Yeah. We about it now, that was out, the yeah. Yeah, just all right. And teenage stuff there, that's held onto you because I don't remember that at all. What is your favorite curse word? Okay. You say you're and we'll say together on one two three one two three. One because it can also mean like, really good like. Who'd you share your first kiss with I it was my high school boyfriend when I was fifteen. This is true. True. Did you leave Easter egg during our interview? Yes. Really? Yes. It's on every word. No. Okay. Your friend invites you to dinner. What do you bring white wine?.

I'm Kevin Lima, the second where Kevin actually not here today. We can explain why you should explain. We fired him. Oh. True. That was it was a tough one. That was tough retard. Yep. Kennelling Alvin is in a content review meeting currently. Yeah. Yes. And if he gets done with that meeting in time he will come in and spend a little time with us on the podcast. But if not, we, we going to push on without him, well, and I thought, what we could do since Kevin's, not. Here's we start by going around the room and each of us could talk about how Kevin's drinking as affected them. Thank you, real, Kevin. I'm just going to say, we could tell the story about being in Vegas and Kevin getting a little tipsy and giving us each one hundred dollar Bill and having us play a game on. Race to tell the story about being at the holiday party a couple years ago and there was some kind of sculpture with tequila running through it. And Kevin I left was on his knees with his mouth up against the bottom of it. I believe it was called the think it was a lose. Yep. We could talk about him having his own seat at Don Kuko's. We don't have to talk about any of these things. I'm just saying he's not here. These are things that are true that are also about Kevin. Here's one thing, I've, I think I've learned about Kevin Leman is, if you are a friend of Kevin lemans, you are a friend of his forever. He has people in his life from seems like all walks of life. A lot of college friends, a lot of school friends, a lot of people he paid with a lot of people. He's worked with a couple of Disney princesses couplet his knee princesses. He meets new people along the way. That become very good friends. And if you've been a friend, you remain a friend of Kevin's. That's true. Yeah. It's like mafia. I'm more of an acquaintance Ilias. They are so hard working, and I have two students here that wanna say something to you. This is sage this is Daniel stage. What did you say the Ellen? We love you Ellen so much because you spotlighted are mazing teachers here coma elementary in. We love you. And what about you? Daniel what did you say Ellen Ellen? I just wanna say thank you for having a kind and giving heart and all of these students want to grow up to be just like you one day. Thank you so much you have a kind of loving heart. And I wanna grow up to be just like you is what I want. I I I think all of you are amazing. And I love how hard you work. And I love that you have these dreams because you can do anything you put your mind to all you have to do is work and y'all are going to be amazing. I can't wait to see what you do with your life. When you grow up. All right. So you have a food pantry right? Because a lot of times they don't have food at home. So they give them food there. We do made initially started with teachers out of their own pocket. Just buying snacks and things for us to send home bags with students on the weekend. Well, I guarantee you there's some people watching right now that are going to donate. So all you have to do is go to our website. And and we're going to direct you to them. Thank you for doing this podcast. I'm your to. Thank you wanna talk about today. And today, we have a lot to talk about where do we want to start with what if we start with you at the table games? Okay. I'm just going to say, you don't disappoint doesn't. It was fun. Rock was very nice to me, and you call DJ or anything. What are you? Yeah. I I call them to came back. Yeah. And I said DJ was cool. Tell me to calm Dietsch. It's just like I'm sorry. I've worked with the rock. Yeah. Again to you. It was a very painful he's ever said call me how shore were you after I was sore for about three days. Now, I'm not a regular exerciser as which may come as the surprise to Kevin. But I'm not a regular exercise. I play hockey once a week. And that's really the extent of my. This is just natural. This is just natural. Haven't seen. It titan games is like this crazy huge like American gladiators times ninja warriors times thousand. It was the most insane said I'd ever seen. It was outdoors at an old grace track and you come in. And it literally looks like like that movie with Russell Crowe gladiator. That's what it felt like you are entering an arena. So you were like a gladiator. Are you did you are you a titan or gladiator the set like light here? But it's the titan games. And it's just regular people like me who are extraordinary. No in physical, fitness. Yeah. It's bit. Here's the thing. Tight how wardrobe it wasn't great. It was here's the thing. And this is what I'm convinced. Most of the average Andy segments are generated from the writers. The writers are run by our friend sitting right here. Kevin leman. I am convinced that Kevin Leman specifically picks. What average Andy's we're going to do based on? What will be the most unflattering wardrobe for me? I gotta say I was annoyed that you look so good in. This one kidding me of your natural roles. The Spanish, right? It was like a spanks on you. Yeah. It was. It was really what I'm going to say no matter what the task. Yeah. Matter what the challenge. Yes, you go at it. One hundred percent I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm titan. Maybe I honestly going when they were showing me what I was gonna do. I literally my head thought. Oh, I can do this. I'm going to be good at it. And then I got tired. We'll just the video of you running at the beginning to run to the first thing natural runner your hands. Trying to get speed. I was told you pump your arms when you spring. Here's a little bit of it. And then you have to promise to watch the show on your DVR because you have to see how wonderfully average and everybody Dwayne Johnson here also known as the rock. "We had fun this week preparing for Sarah Paulson to come back. Kevin how much did it cost? I don't do the numbers dead. You spend the numbers some fun ideas. Paid for him. Yeah. We had a wonderful producer name, Melissa scientists, Sarah and she came up. We've scared her first of all we scared her in every way we've ever scared anyone on the. Yes. Ellen in the bathroom at the scare table behind. Her built a special box could scare her during five second rule. So listen, I've been to the house with her when we sent her house. Yeah. So let's camp with some really crazy ideas to scare her. That seem insane. We actually dug out a tunnel underneath Ellen's your idea member that was Mary's idea. I'm hearing now. Dug a tunnel under Ellen's chair, basically. So that Sewri a sub flooring flooring. Well, if you notice the platform of of what we call home base, which is where Ellen chairs are you have to take a couple of steps up to get to them. So there's gotta be some room underneath a little bit of room. So they cleared out some some boards, and we made a tunnel. So Corey could crawl from backstage into that box after Ellen showed her that it was empty. So we open the table to show, Sarah. There's no one in the table to scare right? Then we'd close the table and somebody crawls you guys you guys know what we are suddenly we're kinda like magicians, it was a lot like a little like look there's nothing here. And then suddenly Elissa had an absolutely shame. What to do a ninja dropping from the sky to scare Sarah Paulson? It was so fast. And so startling. It was and the what you really you have in your mind. What you hope that will be. And this didn't disappoint great. So if you wanna see that go check, your DVR's, and and check out this show because because we're podcast, even if we play a clip of screaming, you can't see how it happened. But we're going to play a clip here's quip of screaming. God. Can I open it up? There's nothing in here. Nobody in there guys know what they like to do. Right. Go to yourself now. I'm scared. I know any just scream I did know I saw you look at tiny bit over my shoulder like something happened via nothing's happening. So you do impressions. And you're really good at accents impression. So we're gonna play heads up because you like heads up. Right. I do love ice game. And I like your impressions to I didn't know. I saw you on Jimmy Fallon me doing who. Are you doing Barrymore? Maybe yet. You're just good at impressions. Thanks. All right. So I'm gonna guess who you're doing. And no this. This part. It out. I'm saying play Andy. Okay. All right. This is fun. Okay. Okay. Oh. I don't I come do this very well. But I'm doing all kinds of poses in anonymous staged. Let's go accent NAMA stage. I am yet. Does I have no idea? Oh, I'm round. If you own. What am I doing here on how they really would like to offer some kind of of this Wade we accent? I'm doing a vanity Benji thing with the tool with lots of already. But I don't know who you are. I'm not supposed to be passed and it's an accent. Okay. It's It's not to get. supposed to get. I don't know if it's all right? Let me tell you something. The whole. I wanna say that looks like sit down. All right. Creative. We have to. I know we had to build tunnel and. That's why I was able to it was empty and then he came in during the commercial break..

It is something that everyone must do. First of all, a safari is something everyone must do. But for sure to be that close to these magnificent majestic creatures that that have so much power that don't wanna hurt you that are just sitting there just that's that's what seems very unattainable like five. Nansha? But the more popular they've become they've they've they have the very high end luxury safaris, but they do have economical ways for you to do it. You can stay in a motel, and they'll just bring you a stuffed animal. That's exactly right. That's what I'll be doing with my family. But yeah, it's cool. It's like it seems to be on pretty much. Everyone's bucket list is like, oh, yeah. I want to go on a safari and then to see. Yeah. And it should be because I mean, it you are entering their territory. It's their world and the way that they look at you is I mean, it's it's hard to describe. I remember just before we went we had dinner, and Leo DiCaprio was at this dinner on that was a name dropping someone here in L A. Sorry. Or the name. Leo was at the dinner. But you know, in of all the things that Leo has done in his life with his foundation because I mean, he's away. Leo has dedicated himself to the environment is it's it's unbelievable. It's really an amazing. But he said one of his favorite things was this guerilla truck owners Wanda. Yeah. Wow. All right. So you may have seen this on the show. But this is Porsche's. This is the ground breaking ceremony attended by Porsche Ellen was back here. Doing shows. Thanks to us in Rwanda first week of at where it's really amazing ticket. Listen so a couple of weeks ago. My wife Porsche went to Rwanda she was there for the ground breaking ceremony for my campus that we're building for the Dian Fossey gorilla fund to help protect the mountain gorillas, and it was an incredible experience. And I want to show you more of what happened because she it was it's amazing. This thing came about because I thought what on earth? Do you give the woman who has everything? So I thought the best gift that I could give her was a way to connect her past to her future at a little girl. Now seeing that brave woman scientists who left her comfortable life to set up a tent in the Rwandan forest to save a species on the brink of extinction was transformative for Ellen's it made her see the world differently, and it made her see her place within it differently. I gave this gift to Ellen because we both love and wanted to protect gorillas after coming here. However, we fell in love with the country and its people. This is. The guys on. So this campus isn't for me or for Ellen. It's to the people of Rwanda, it is my hope that the campus will serve as a catalyst to encourage US Dream bigger to know that we too can make an impact and that all of us can become trailblazers just like Ellen and. Brian. Incredible. You know, they're endangered like there's not a lot of them. No, there's well. There was eighty and then the Reese the recent count. I think we're up to a thousand. So it's real conservation success story, which is rare. There's a thousand gladdens. Wow. Just glavin. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Wait. Okay. You know, I just want. I just want to tell all of our listeners our listeners now that that Eboni or wearing the same sweater. Yes. They are. We'll we'll post a photo. We'll post you have a very similar. It's going to be honest. It looks better on you. I don't know. If you if you. Yeah, we should post a photo. But just so, you know, Eddie's ED's wearing a lady shirt. "I just got Eddie was driving to lunch and just sent me a couple of billboards that he saw on the way they're starting to go up. So December eighteen is Ellen has. Standup comedy special. It's her return to stand up after fifteen sixteen years of doing this show. And I'm just going to tell you that I had the pleasures as did Mary. Ann. Ed Kevin didn't care enough to make the trip, but Mary Ed, and I were there for the taping. I know Ellen. I love Ellen. I've now worked with her for sixteen years. Absolutely. Without a doubt belly laughing. Having been to a couple of the stand up shows before while she was working out her material. I got there. I was like, okay. And the whole building was shaking with laughter. And it was it was a rickety building, we couldn't get. To laugh and then to see everybody around me laughing. It was just it was like it was like a religious experience. People people had a really good times fun. It's a whole different people ask what the differences between the show and stand up and there's a big difference. It's just me by myself on stage with an audience, and it's kind of just a more intimate. Not that the show isn't intimate. But doing stand up is is just a me by myself without a guest without anything just talking for an hour. And and in talking about other things that I don't normally talk about on the show. And also, it's it's an hour of me talking. It's not just coming up for monologue. And then going into interviews people gonna watch it over and over again, it's everything it's everything you expect it to be times. Ten right. It's fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Really funny comedy. And then Ellen takes questions from the audience, which is always fun and always. Unpredictable and Ellen ever knows. What's going to happen? The audience never knows what's going to happen. And it's really really funny. Yeah. It's good. And the truth is I have to say the reason Kevin wasn't there as he actually was in Australia overseas. Andy game of games. I went to allow the test that is as good if not better than you describe it. So what you are the best at. Porsche had never seen me do it. And she was she just put piling too much on my plate. She just thought it was way too busy to to add that to my summer. And then once she saw me on stage for the very first time when I started trying stuff out. She's like, oh my God. You're this is what you're supposed to do. So it was great to see someone. I love so much that that she, you know, really loved watching it and went to every single show watched every single everything. So it was really fun. Did you see how much I loved it? No. I said people in love, okay. After this. I did it the last minute. Get you. And just give me podcast. Why? Decide to do that. Really don't know. I mean. I don't have an answer that Eddie said, you know, they keep asking you. If you want to do a Netflix special, and he'd mentioned it to me before. But I just never zones agent agent. And he just said, you know, you don't have to do it right away. But we should just make a deal. Just in case you come up. So I made a deal actually on the way home from getting the medal of freedom. We were on the plane on the way home from getting the medal of freedom. So what would that to us? And so I made it that long ago. And then I just was I almost gave the money back so many times because they gave me a deposit, and I was like oh my God. I'm never going to think of anything, and I almost I almost cancel it. So many times to return the fifteen thousand dollars. Sorry. And all of a sudden out of nowhere. I came up with this whole relatable idea. I was in Tahiti. Go to heat. It's just hit me this whole thing about being relatable. And and just, but but making just a ridiculous not really being relatable. And that the name came to me, the the whole I twenty minutes came to me. And then I had to write another forty minutes. Another forty minutes. Here's a tiny tiny clip of what you can see next Tuesday, a friend of mine was at my house, and I told him I'm gonna do stand up again..

That's not true. That's that's true. Well, one of our favorite people in the world. Jennifer Aniston was here. This was a genuine actual friend of Ellen's rather. They spend time together. Socially, socially. Yeah. Yes. I like her a lot, and she's my friend. What does she think of you? I don't know. No. She loves you. She seems like she likes. She seems like. Yeah. What about the birthday party idea? That's such a great idea. She seems open to that. She does. One hour on the show celebrating their life and their birth. She doesn't need to spend time in makeup and come work. I mean, it's work. I think she felt like it would take pressure off her that we would sort of fed her. We'll somebody's gonna do something. It's not like no one's doing something for but deal. It's nice that you're doing it and take it in. Well, we just walked by the picture of your sixtieth birthday party on show. We know how to throw a good. I hope she does she's gonna do it. We FaceTime a lot really. Do you like seeing someone while you're talking to him on the phone? I hate FaceTime. I don't she's a big fan of FaceTime. And she started it and then now every once in a while one spot. Yes, usually I'm usually in bed like because it's nine thirty. And she's you know. Hate it. Really? If you're gonna be on the phone. Also. You also have that out of proportion head. So it's close to probably. The whole thing doesn't get in. Rotating FaceTime, right? I think. Ellen and Jennifer Aniston, always fun homerun fun. Take a listen..

"I was so taken by how moved Ellen was. Chatting with Lisa German again. And how Ellen kept referring to Lisa as part of the family a little bit too, which which we have all believed and Ellen hasn't seen her in a number of years, and they just sort of fell back into this lovely little friendship that they've that. They've had all these years. One of the things that's amazing to watch producing the show is to watch the way Ellen is inspired by regular people who overcome adversity. Yeah. Versus really really moves Ellen. And that's really meaningful to us. Yeah. I think that's what's meaningful to our view. I mean, I don't know. See what drives through to do the show now. But yeah. Yeah. Fuel as loves to be funny. She loves to be entertaining. She also loves to be inspired and introduce all of us to people that inspire her and she really found Lisa's tackling her health issues inspiring. You know, as executive producers, we all know, everything that's going to happen in the show, we planet. We talk about it, except when it involves scaring one of us or something that's going to humiliate one of us, usually me. My question is do you guys ever have meetings and think because we're talking about inspiring people, maybe Ellen should give a Hindi. A shutter flight check. Not just asking I'm not saying it should happen. But does the idea at least come up? And the first act I was we'll Ellen Chris our friends so dinner together, they spend time together. And they really like no each other, right? And I found the conversation about Kanye riveting, right? Fly. You know, Ellen has has had a relationship with Connie, and has, you know, had a friendship with Connie. And I remember ten years ago Kanye performed at our outdoor show in Burbank in the park, and he came into our came into Ellen's office while we were briefing with a Louis Vuitton backpack pulled out his backpack opened up his computer and said this isn't going to be out for a year. But let me play it for you. And he played a song by by himself and Chris Martin from Coldplay call I think called homecoming. And I was like oh my God. How can I hear the song? It didn't come out for another year. And he was just like young and blowing up and brilliant. Yeah. Fast forward ten years in a lot of water under the bridge and Konya is in a different place yet, an Ellen and Kris Jenner had a pretty amazing conversation about it. I thought. It is fantastic. "Our highest rated show from the top of the season until twelve days. Yes. And then what's amazing is over the course of the years that we've been doing the show you have fallen more deeply in love with the Halloween show every year. It's allies. No, no, no. I'm going to say I'm going to say you may not want to admit it, but you you like it more than you used to? Well, that's not saying much well by saying, I like it more than I used to. But now I mean, it's it's sometimes it's funny and sometimes it's it's, yeah, it's fun. It's fine. I can tell you having with very funny. Yeah, like the writers try to surprise you in the morning. That is my favorite part of the day somehow that has to be that's never been for sixteen years. Let me explain what happens in our morning meeting for the last sixteen years. Kevin orchestrates all the writers to dress up and they come into our meeting. None of us know what they're going to be dressed up. Usually in the fem- in. This show on the show Ellen and but it's never reported. No one gets for my birthday in for Halloween. All the writers come in and do something for me. And it's obviously because their comedy writers, they're hilarious and the costumes are very creative. Sometimes we can't air the things. Sometimes we do pretty much never. With your gift with Porsche, every bursary we're already struggling like, what are we gonna do this year? We have no idea because all of our best ideas, we've done one idea, but we'll see. Yeah, I don't know. Ahead do you do you plan that apple now? Usually three weeks out, but he always downplays it like if we ask him about it, he's like, I don't know. We have no idea what he's going to do until he walks into the room. I know they're good when they make me nervous and like Melissa, he goes home and he makes the costumes. Here's my question. When you're out, obviously in public, you get a lot of people approaching you because you're Ellen Degeneres. Are you getting a lot of feedback about the podcast. When you out there, what? What? What are you hearing? Yeah, the buzz is an enormous saying, what is it what right now? I know it was number five. Where are we right now in the podcast. Here number one, but we just crossed over five hundred thousand. Five hundred thousand people have the potential to to listen to the podcast every week, and now it's not that they do. And now that they know you're a regular part now that they know that you're gonna hear every week. I'll be here every week and dress up. Today. Yeah, yeah, thank you. Yeah, very low. Thank you. These are killing my feet most. Yeah, most people dress up like that for a show and then change into normal close after yet. I wear. I wear pants suit on the show. And then when I changed to to drive home, I'm in a either a gown or a short cocktail dress. So you like to drive in a he'll surprised pump is the best way to drive is a is in a pump. And that way, if I'm speeding. Yeah, just a pump and a two. Leading, I can. I can get out of it that way. That's why don't. Yep. I'm getting attacks. Go ahead. Yes, is blowing up. He's probably for Mandy. I just texted her. Stop talking so much. It's more about me here. Picking out presents is hard, and this is Kevin from Ellen on the go. It's important to support artists in developing countries. Community, say that sentence pleasant straws our problem, and I think that we should do everything we can to protect our environment and the animals, but I'm not sure that we figured out the best way to replace plastic straws. Because right now they're replacing them with paper straws. And they say that there's good plastic straws, but the only time they don't work really is if you put them in any kind of liquid. Or if you put your mouth on them that. Or if you try to put them through a hole in the lid, otherwise they work, they work perfectly. Have you tried using a paper straw, anybody, everybody, it's it's a race against time because you have to, you have to drink all the liquid you can before the paper closes up. And then you have to take the top off and drink it with your mouth like some kind of animal. I saw this one place is replacing classic straws with pasta tubes, and I think it's probably wouldn't drunk guy at the olive garden, but that's using your noodle. Thank you. Thank you. Sorry. I know. How do you think you got here? Not by now. I get it. My mother has not red room. Andy, I have bad news. No, your mother. Anyway, this is why I'm still in shock. You have kids, you said to to. "Hi, it's Ellen Degeneres. Welcome to my podcast. We're gonna listen to some of the best moments from the show, and it's going to be hosted by four executive producers that I love happy listening, welcome to another episode of. I'm having to start. I don't want it. Head start. Go, go ahead. Go ahead. Another episode of Ellen on the go. I'm your host Andy last nerve and joining me today. Are you kidding me? Friends, Mary Connolly. Ed, glavin and Kevin Leman. Who helped me out putting this show together. All right. You're fired. You want, what do we have on the show today? Kevin, Cate Blanche's go teach us about truffle, hunting and cursing. Simon cowl discusses how fatherhood has changed him and Ellen set up a scare that is very, very elaborate and hilarious. We'll tell you all about so over the weekend last weekend, Andy sends Ellen a video that he saw of two snakes that had fallen out of a ceiling in mid fight onto the floor of a home in Australia. And yes. And the reason I send it to Ellen is because one of our writers are women and ballion is petrified. Petrified. Petrified of snakes and Ellen likes to send her snake videos. And so what I did was I saw this horrifying snake video as described to like pythons that fell through the event of a home, how how long were they? Do? You figure seven, eight feet near fight. So just picture yourself in your home. Home and suddenly to snakes fall from the ceiling in a fight serpentine or whatever. That was almost looked like one snake with two heads. Yeah, it was together are fine. So so I send it tell in like at seven AM on a Saturday morning and go, I'm gonna let you send this to Alison, right? So Ellen didn't send it to Allison, but we showed it in one of the writers meetings and then that gave Kevin Kevin and Ellen an idea. Well, yeah, the minute we walked out another one of our writers Troy notice that there's a tiled ceiling Ellen's office and said, we've got to put snakes above Allison. So here's, here's the one thing you need to know is that for the last sixteen years, essentially everybody has a signed seats in the meeting. Everybody sits in the same place, not assign. Yeah, but we all have our seats. The same seat like Andy sits as close to Elena's. He can get. Yes. I'm also in charge. So, yeah. Oh my God. So everybody has the same seats. Everybody sits in the same seats. So Ellen wants us to the Warner Brothers, special effects team involved, and we get a motor put above the ceiling the night. This is all happening while we're also making. Why would you tell any of us about? I wouldn't because big mouths, the only person I told her glavin of course. So we get all the wheels in motion. We have special effects with a ladder, and I'm petrified because there's expensive art all over the office, but we get all rigged up, get to rubber snakes in the thing right above Ellen Allison, right, Rev Alison. Sorry. And then they have to run a cable through the ceiling tile around a window down the side of a wall through the carpet under Ellen's chair. And then they give her a little trigger button right in her seat so that she has control of when these draw stakes are going to drop on Alison. We had go pros all over the room, a hidden microphone. We built a binder that hell the hidden camera. We wouldn't like we spent twenty four thousand dollars. To do stupid prank. Probably not approved. And the other are just finding out about that now, and I apologize in advance. But it was well worth it by not telling anyone else except for that. It was happening. All the reaction was a reaction from every single person. It was produced this podcast and you'll who runs our entire digital department. The way that he fell off his stool and was crawling on the ground, screaming at a fishing did not know, was achievable by him was interesting. This an Andy dart out of the room like they are run a fine, save yourself. Yeah. Out of the room. Yeah. So fast Alison had across the entire room to get out of the room the way that neither of them fought it necessary to protect the host right now. Not. I'm the guy who steps over my kids to get out of situations..
