"I've stated a couple of bed and breakfast places. In fact, that is just one in Scottsdale. I don't remember the name of it. But I can tell that the four rooms on the second level they all have many splits in him because you didn't see the outdoor of the fans on the outdoor. Yeah, so and then, when the room is not empty, you just I mean, I mean, when the room isn't you just turned that unit off and left the other three runner the air there, too. Another. So you have maximum flexibility, your maximum efficiency, But there's a reason This is being done in the higher in custom homes. It's a pricey solution. And then the other thing. You've got to worry about Many splits. Don't give you any significant filtration. Yeah, those, you know that many split I put in my garage. If you open up that front and take a look at that filter, it's just a little plastic screen basically which for garage is just fine, but I think that they if they don't already they have there. They've got some many splits were there. They've upgraded that filtration so, but once again, you're getting into a higher and model there, but, yeah, for efficiency. They're great if you have an existing doctor condition in good shape. And you're just changing out on a C It's going to be an expensive proposition to change over to a mini split and just address real quick that what about the heat? That would just be? I shouldn't say most, but just about all the many sports you can get him in a heat pump where it's going to do the heating and cooling and unless you live in the coldest parts of Arizona Um, that he pump will be just fine in the winter. So and in a couple of the mother in law, sweets that we've built over the years you have a separate kitchen. Bedroom and maybe a sitting area. Well, we just do adopted many split and nose and they worked very, very well done A couple of hours a tend to be a great solution. So for the texture we hope that gives you some guidance. Yes, you can many split an entire house. Yes, it is extremely efficient. Yes, it's extremely lovable because you can set the temperature in every room separate. Oh, yes. You're going. The entry price tag can be a little steam. So there you go. Hope that answers your question. Take your room's wisely. How's that? That's right. Then let's see if we can get some of these collars. Let's go, Teo. Oh, Miss Mary Helen's been hold it so long. Let's see if we can get her taken care. Miss Mary Helen. Good morning. Welcome to Rosie on the house. Good morning. Yes, ma'am. I know I have the same problem that you are covering the the the people that were about the house. They enclose the carport. And they made it a next room. Yeah. So now this is a very first year, the first summer that I've noticed water sipping in Because it's the wall was built over the driveway. Yeah, again. Philip, can I use who? Boy? Well, there are things you can try to use. Very Helen. Some some. Ah, last America with fiberglass measure reinforcement may buy you something, possibly if we could take a picture of it and send it to us at info it, Rosie on the house dot com. There might be a way you could metal flash it. But Bruce remembers. I mean, the first home I bought in Tucson at fourth and Alvin on. I had the drive in car port with the detach laundry room and that you crossed an open air breeze way to get into the kitchen. Well, we were having that exact problem. Mary Ellen in the enclosed laundry. We actually sure the roof up Cut the bottom one foot of the wall off. And laid concrete block down there and then reframe the wall. We did it without tearing the room down. It's possible and that's the only Permanent solution lift that would up high as high as the finished floor of your existing home at least And everything from there down to the driveway has to be concrete block and we we even with the distance to go and put through steel exterior waterproofing on it. You really ought to seal that block as well. Eventually you can still get some some water there because, you know, concrete. It soaks up water. So, yeah, that little laundry room ended up being one of my favorite little laundry rooms in the whole house, and then Romy and I back toward the concrete with colored concrete. Polished it out. Is Pearl white. It look good. That was a nice little summer job took Romi down there. We pulled it off. And and between some semesters where the where There were no students in that. So miss Mary Ellen, you Khun certainly send us a picture. We could take a look at it and coach you along further. Seal, it is is only going to be a bandit Gets Emperor, no matter how much you spend or how you apply it. It's only going to be a bandit. And if you'll send me the picture, I'll draw you a little picture. Of what should be done and send it back down to you. And you kind of use that as a guide as to what it would take to permanently fix it. What we call Rosie. Right? Thanks for the call. Let's see if we could go to miss Natalie. Also calling from Tucson. Good morning. Natalie. What are you up to this morning? Well, his night question because my husband is not really keen on the whole idea, but I thought it would make sense..

As NPR's Bobby Allen reports uber and lift insist their most of their drivers want to remain independent contractors. In a call with investors lift President John Zimmer echoed Uber and saying If the order isn't paused on appeal lift will stop its Reid handling business in California reclassifying tens of thousands of self employed drivers would be a significant challenge. Stephen 'tWitch' Boss speaks out for the first time about allegations of toxicity on the set of Ellen
"The Earth will be kind to everybody. Then backstage. She's a raging maniac. It's the most vicious environment in the world. Sexual harassment, racism, bullying brutality backstage from the staff and the manager. So finally You know, they have a deejay on the show. She's always dancing, Got a deejay that plays all the music. He came out to defend everything. And he said, Listen to this statement. There's love in the room backstage, it's filled with love. But there are some things that need to be addressed the hopefully at the proper time we could look so even the deejay who is obviously not the brightest guy, even he had admit There's some What does that mean? There's some things that need to. Obviously there's some things that need to be addressed here. So basically comes out the defender. But at the end, wink wink, it's true. It's all true. So Howard Stern had some good advice for her. Just just be the meanest woman would just do that. Have that be erect you This ruthless, awful Not a bad idea. Howard Stern's surprising advice to Ellen DeGeneres amid toxic workplace allegations
"Okay. This is a wild story Howard. Stern has some surprising advice for Ellen. Degeneres. Ellen's been in a tub attorney trouble recently like. It's been going on for years, but it's just been a few months. Her reputation suddenly has been damaged I. think allegations about a toxic work culture and worse now Howard thinks eleanor should actually embrace this new persona and she should not try to be rehabilitator image no no. No she should basically just say everybody this is me and I'm a son of a you know what? Would he just go with it lead into this new image. He also goes on to say for many many years people thought he was horrible and he's actually kind of a nice guy I've got to admit the few times I've met Howard, he sort of like a good guy, and then was not as Nice went on the Ellen was more difficult than Howard. What do you think about this advice should ellen just lean into being a monster? What do you think Mr? The first is to laugh because all Howard wants to do is spend time with his gorgeous wife Bath and their dogs. I understand him giving her that advice but she spent thirteen years building brand of kindness and giving. She's not going to give that up. But let me tell you. She is going to have to act a little differently on her show day one she needs to come on camera and say, look she has to admit this has been happening all summer to ignore it and be like, Hey, we're having a dance party nobody's GonNa buy it. She has to come on and say look I know that people have talked about. The show they talked about me. They've criticize whether I'm kindness or not, and I had to take a look into myself and say have I lived up to my own standards and I am this point going to make a change to be a kinder version of myself and then she can kind of go back to the life that she had. It won't be exactly the same, but she has to own up to on it. She has to take one hundred percent responsibility for her actions and then she can move forward.
Former "Ellen" Producer Speaks Out Against Show's Culture
"Talk talk show show host, host, Ellen Ellen did did generous, generous, continues continues to to come come under under fire fire for for what what many who worked for her called the show's toxic work environment. Staff have claimed she's not the happy go lucky person we see on TV and is, in fact anything but kind to employees, telling them not to look at her or talk to her ever. Hey, CBS's Dan Mitchinson spoke Mohr about it with Hedda Muscat. She's the show's first producer and Grammy Award winner. Why speak out now? Because I was asked. I did not seek this attention at all. I've laid low for 16 years and then the entertainment community when people have asked me on all the other shows I've worked on after that from America's got talent. I launched that. Two other shows, including Hot bench with Judge Judy People would ask me my bought, my new bosses would ask me. So what was it really like working with Alan and I always said fine. Fine because I didn't want to put that by about there. I had moved on already. But the media approached me about two weeks ago, Buzz feed, and they disclosed to me that there were over 50 people that they spoke to at that point, and nobody wanted to come forward with their name. And I said, Why And they said, because people are afraid I said, Well, I'm not afraid anymore. If you want to use my name, go for it. I mean, you were the first tires on the show when it started. What was the environment like back then? He was saying the exact same Ellen is the cold person. But here's what you have to understand. I didn't I'm not complaining because she was cold. I'm complaining because that attitude that she exhibited in the office which I say cold, indifferent, aloof, very disinterested in what I was doing. I was human interest producer. So the show was really relying heavily on all these human interest segments. She had no interest to have an understanding of the story that I was pitching her the story that we got approved. Finally, you know with the other MPs. Everybody had to approve. The story should know interest when I was trying to brief her on what the guest you know was going to be doing and my many of my segment's fell flat. Because of her disinterest in them. If you weren't an a list celebrity, she wasn't really couldn't care less, But once it affect your work, the quality of your work and your segments, then that becomes very toxic, and it's very difficult to deal with. I'm very strong person. You know a lot of the newspapers I noticed in the UK were saying, Oh, she's just soft. We're not soft. People were very aggressive in the way we book Our guests were looking for that news breaking, you know, first right exclusive story we can handle. Helen's coldness, but what we can't handle is when it starts affecting the quality of our work. As I understand it. Ah lot of employees. Maybe most employees had to sign a non disclosure, Did you Yes. And are you breaking it by talking to us? I don't know. I don't care if I'm in my sixties now, you know, asked me 10 years ago. You had probably care. I don't care anymore. You know, the media asked me. You know what? I go public with my name because everybody was afraid. And I was Sure why not? And I'm doing this for a bigger reason to have a daughter, who also is making her way in the work environment. She's only in her twenties, and I just just like the meat to movement. Change the culture. Of how women are treated in the workplace. Hopefully, black lives matter. Huge. Hopefully that will continue continue making amazing changes in our society. I'm hoping that this is you know the whole toxic work culture changes, too, because we can't do our jobs effectively when you work for someone who allows her co M P. Ed Glavin to go off on people in a rage she witnessed. I was in the room when she went when Ed would go off in a rage with veins bulging and she would laugh and say. Oh, every production needs its dog. But we knew that we were going to be at the receiving end of that screaming rant at one point so we can handle it. It's not like Oh, gosh, poor us. It's just that her mantra of be kind is so fake, and I think that's what disgusts me so much don't do that. How it's turned to them have to go. Be kind. We know who he is. I work for Simon Cowell's And he was amazing to work with very tough, very abrupt but to the point but professional and it made me a better producer. There's nothing that I can take away from the Ellen Show that made me a better producer. Okay, we only have. Unfortunately, about 30 seconds left to go. I want to ask you these claims of sexual harassment. Was this going on back then, when you started with the show I don't know. I wouldn't know that I was an older woman there. I would not know what went on behind closed doors. But if my colleagues they're saying it, I believe it. And now that this has all come out in the open. Do you think this is going to be the end of the show? I would like to see it be the end of the show. Yes. And that was had a Muscat, former producer with E. Ellen de generous show that wasn't exclusive with K CBS anchor Dan
Ashton Kutcher called out for saying Ellen never pandered to celebrity
"Ashton Kutcher says, he was on the Ellen show and he got nothing but respect for him and his team from Ellen and her team. So as far as Ashton, Kutcher concern the stories all a bunch of bunk but maybe it's because he was Ashton Kutcher twelve thank Katy Perry came out and defended or two and Then I think Katy Perry got dragged a little bit for that. Really how come I don't know the full story I just said that she was under fire now for standing up for Allen Okay, you know what that's be as if you can't come out and stand up for your friend or somebody and say, here's my perspective on things and then you get dragged for telling your side of the story that's BS.
Who should replace Ellen?
"News is ongoing. Generous. Ongoing News that won't stop are one nemesis might be replaced by our other nemesis. On their talk show the Ellen show. Well, these are that this is them news, but I do feel like Ellen could be replaced with a WHO, if this all comes to fruition or like a WHO thinks so too person because I'm seeing a lot of people nominate various talk show e people although apparently the rumors are like James Corden is going to replace Ellen, but like he has a show so. That makes no sense to me on any. That's what blows my mind. Why he has eight hundred shows. He has just made another daily show like that doesn't make any sense to me at on. The also has carpool. Karaoke. And then he also has the cat sequel like he has plenty, oh. Yeah. Let's replace a supposedly nice person with another supposedly nice person like. Haven't. We learned anything from this thing. These people are Nice. They suck. I think always be wary of people who say their thing is being. I think the number, one person who should clearly replace Allen is Kiki Palmer. There's literally no. Better obvious. Getting a lot of a lot of traction and she showing up a lot of tweets because it's like she just had a talk show that got canceled for no reason on ABC. Well, it was like that one hour of Commerical Strahan. Michael? And Kiki Sarah? There was A. Third Sarah. Sarah. And Michael and Kiki It just give it to clean working it. Just everyone likes he. We Love Kiki. She's a great host. Who else do you think if if we're going if for skewing young? I think we to Kiki for skewing older, I think it should go to fucking the woman who should have gotten David Letterman, amy. Sedaris like give it to amy sedaris because people like her. She's silly. I don't know that, amy, the thing is I. Don't know that Amy Sarah's would want to do that I. Feel like. I don't need that. We're talking about this on the Patriot. If you WANNA. Go listen to that about how drew Barrymore also has daily, show a daytime show coming out, and I'm like who would want this job? Drew Barrymore wants this job since when like it's just to meal a a weird job that you wouldn't want that could turn you or probably. Turn you into a monster, right? Yes. but the to provide a context in case you've been under a rock people are like there. There have been the rumors for years and years and years, but specifically the past few months they've really you know the hit a critical mass and started being reported publicly like Ellen is an asshole to everyone. Ellen is an asshole. The people she works with Ellen makes people not talk to her ellen cruel. But now there are reports by like news and variety and insider that it wasn't just ellen being a to everyone and celebrities and not liking Ellen like being on Ellen show. It's that the executive producers were actually like being abusive like in sexually harassing the employees. So it's like a culture. Culture of toxicity. That is the sort of thing that I don't that Ellen is deciding up allegedly that she doesn't want to deal with anymore. So she's like this sucks like I just rather not do this anymore. Right. So but this rumor, this isn't this is in fact, this is rumor because people keep their keep going back and forth and saying some some sources say she's not leaving this show sums his sources as she's leaving the show. I. Can't imagine somebody as likely a annoyed with the whole situation who is known to be not a very nice person would want to continue to fake be nice and have to apologize and half to like kind of whatever because these rumors have been. Kind of like I for some reason I, keeping you Kevin Spacey Pre the abuse allegations like when everyone knew he was gay, but no one knew he was gay like it was weird thing where it was like if you knew, you knew if you didn't, you had no idea what be totally shocked it. Kind of feels like that type of Hollywood news where like everyone knew that Ellen was secretly mean except for Ellen fans who had no idea where living happily with ellen everyday of their life and like the show was wildly successful, right? very strange. A very strange thing. Do you think that this will happen because people are so bored in their craving, the Gospel, and then somebody just this is this is what I mean I, think it's I mean. It's a combination of a lot of things at one of is like the people finally speaking out about their employers. It's like finally like shutting down like the. The systemic issues and leg, not being corporate America and knowing that people will support them and believe them and believe them, and that like the media machine of Ellen isn't powerful enough to shut down. So many voices if enough come out and and we'll talk about it later in the episode, but it's like the it's similar to the. Vanessa. Morgan thing, it's it's shades of an ESA Morgan being like I'm going to speak up against the riverdale creators and the Riverdale producers because people are people are realizing that they can do that and they won't get like dumped on by the press or of their fans they will be seen as like heroes. But. It's also just like, I, Think Dakota Johnson had a tiny bit to do with it because Dakota Johnsons like Open crubaugh open open. Rudeness to Ellen SORTA. Gave People. I don't know permission to speak about rumors that she's an asshole more openly. They're like, it looks like that's what Dakota's referencing. So I didn't even know you liked me. Of course, I. Like you. You Knew I. Liked you. You've been on the show many times and don't I show like. But I did invite you and you didn't come. So this time you invited me, are you sure? How do you? I don't think. So ask everybody. Jonathan. Your producer. I was that, why didn't I go? I don't know that became a meme. You have people like Brad Garret and who else replied to him. Leah Tom's Tom's joins. She is mean she is. She. Yes. Now, I can't believe I just called the Thomson. So Deutsche US minor. That was obsessed the disease of this show right here. Yeah. Leah Thompson also respond to that and said Yep I mean, I just think that it's like no one was a true story note once you lose grip on the fear, you are the power you had over I mean, and it's funny because then you have scooter Braun coming out her being like Ellen is great. I. Love Allen is like so people still. Look at the people coming out and say L. Like scooters, hedging his bets at this, all go away and back to normal and Ellen will still be powerful and whatever, and then you have people speaking out i. just it's a fascinating reveal of a monolith almost kind of crumbling that you didn't think would ever. Be exposed like this. I didn't. It seems like Palmer is getting a lot of A lot of press over like a lot of tweets being could replace. Ellen is trending key Palmer got a lot. Tiffany haddish. Got A lot that woman who does the like trump impersonations? What's her name? Sarah? Cooper. She got a lot of people tweeting about her I mean, I think it's just bomber just someone who someone who actually. Got Some tweets booing reply Oh doodoo be from drag race also got A. Drag. Race. Got I. saw that. Yeah. But I think he palmer when you when you want someone who has like the resume as well like. You of don't WANNA, pick someone random like Sarah Cooper. As funny as she is on twitter, because like her her her skills as a as an interviewer, not proven whereas Kiki, Palmer is a link interviewer host. Yeah I mean I would say like the Ellen slots, big slot made we just move up the ladder. We get Kelly Clarkson in that slot. We get Drew Barrymore Kelly was and we get key. Palmer. Work. Curse, lot I know these are all people on different network. So it makes literally no sense but you. Better like we. We cannot confuse the audience. We must replace the Ellen show with someone named. Ellen. Ellen Ellen. Page's like don't look at me like another gay. Just like I will not I will. Zone POMPEO, she wouldn't do it. I. Don't I don't need Elon Pale. Ellen Page Ellen Popular, and Never Would Ellen Pompeo every interview Ellen Pao's ever done. It's been like I. Love Grey's Anatomy I. have nothing but free time like. She will never do that. You know who would do it. Who Ellen Barkin? Embark and all Ellen Barkin wants is a soapbox like did someone say soapbox?

Former 'Ellen' Producer Says DeGeneres Was Aware of Abuses
"Former Ellen Show employees, they report sexual harassment and misconduct by top executive producers. And it runs rampant behind the scenes. That's the word on it all starts at the top. It does. I guess it does go. Apparently, ex employees say one executive producer had a reputation of being hands E with the women and then another solicited aural sects at a work party. Never do that at a work party. No, no, and I'm sure it was well received. Sure, yeah, Always a good move. So what? So now the Twitterverse, everybody you're trying to side who's going to be Ellen's replacement. She's not coming back. Well, will the requirement. Be that that it's Ah gay person? I bet I, It has to be otherwise it would look horrible. I'm sure that's going to be the number one priority, and hopefully they have talent. Beyond that. You may be right. I would kind of lead towards funny and entertaining. Well, that it's not that easy anymore, Todd. I guess it is you got you got more, but it's hard to be funny these days. Ellen DeGeneres’ Talk Show Drama: Everything to Know
"We're. About to cancel. Ellen. She might cancel ourself I you might recognize. Allen. As part of the LGBTQ I eight, two plus community. Also very beloved. Until. Until what happened last fall when she had the unmitigated gall to sit next to George? W Bush had a cowboys football game in Dallas Texas at unforgivable. Well, then we had to go after her and we had got her with everything we got and so that's what they're doing right now and that's what they're doing now could she be mean? To I guess it's possible. It's Kinda surprising to me that if she is so mean and nasty and there's you know sexual harassment running rampant backstage at her show. Why didn't this come out a long time ago I haven't heard sexual harassment to now. Yeah. Something sexual in the she's just a mean person. She's just she has mean and the reason that were pointing out the cheese mean is because she hangs out with George W Bush well, she has to be mean if she'd hang out with your. Share Point Chicken and the egg right. So, Australian TV. Exact reveals a incredible demands from Ellen. He I guess she terrified his staff as she's she said, don't look at her you don't talk to her or approach her. And he she didn't say that her staff members. Yeah. told him that was the case. To don't approach don't look at her. got. GotTa look at your demand those that's my. Look at me. Great. In fact, if we pass each other in the hallway, you turn around and face the wall right and that's why there's such a stash of patch kids. Yeah. And the studio because people have learned that that's actually how you get them to talk to you. Is If you walk up and you and you extend your hand in you have a pack of Sour. Patch. That's acceptable. Yeah. Earn thirty seconds with the man earlier this month several employees blasted the Ellen. Degeneres. Show toxic work environment accusing three executive producers of bullying. What does that mean really mean have you ever worked with famous people successful people. They're successful for a reason usually because they can't tolerate bullcrap for one thing and if you don't do a good job, you're going to hear about it. Stunned unbelievable. In April there was outrage over pay-cuts due to the COVID nineteen pandemic and Warner, media employee Relations Group and third party firm will be interviewing past and present staff about their experiences. Okay we're GONNA get to the bottom of meanness
Should I self-publish a mental health guidebook on Kindle?
"Hi. Crazy. So Kenya, from Mexico thankful the generals were if you're putting out there every day. So as a former reporter, one of the things I'm good at actually love doing these creating content into an indepth research. I'm passionate about human behavior and mental health topics. I just started two months ago, trauma informed interview based CAST. So I don't want to use that platform to make enough right now. I do want to capitalize on my research skills to run a nonfiction, e Book Guy With curated mental health tools that can help people navigate these weird stressful. Times I've been doing my ellen bridge, but I want each down. So my question is it self published kindle? Even a smart move. What would you suggest do if I don't have a huge following on not even a meal east solar promote guide as mentioned before I'm just getting started with the thought because I don't Wanna use that platform now to make an offer and considering something similar as you shared your once you six episode. Thank you. Crews have a great week and Stacey. Thank you so much of India. So glad you're out there. Hope you are staying safe as well. So what comes first the followers or? The thing is about Amazon, the point of Amazon isn't to sell your followers. To reach New People. So if you already have people who are going to buy from you, they're like, yes, I, want this book. I want this, whatever it is. You don't necessarily need to send him to Amazon. Amazon can do at least when it works, and of course, it doesn't always. But when it works is introduced your work to lots of new audiences like that. That is the goal of something like Amazon. So hitting mentioned episode one, thousand six and went back to look at that episode was entitled Layoff Leads Journalists To build kindle e Book Empire. And, the model used in that episode didn't rely it all on the person having a lot of followers. However, I'm also not sure that it's the most accurate comparison because in that story, the journalists was publishing a lot of different short guides and books. In some ways, almost agnostic about what topic she was writing about. It was all about figuring out how to work the system to find the right topics quite buried. So when something works, she did more of that. If it didn't work than, she just did less of it whereas Hannah's doing, she has an actual message that she wants to share. So the topic is important. Therefore it's also important for her to build a community over time. So, when I hear her say, she doesn't want to use the new podcast to promote a paid product. I totally understand that, but I would use it to promote the platform. I would use it to promote the community. I would start that email list and encourage people to join. Don't be discouraged that you don't have it yet. The whole point is to start building it. So no matter what you do next that will help I. think that's true for everyone out there. In this situation, if you have a message that you're trying to get out there building that platform trying to start that community that's going to be ultimately more important than whether, you choose to publish this thing on kindle or how you develop a podcast or whatever other medium you go into. Ask for the direct question of whether, she should sell published on kindle or not. I would just say you know it's up to her. It might be worth a try as long as she doesn't expect it to be a tremendous success right away. But more important since she hasn't message to share to focus on building that community, and over time you have different outlets for it. You have two podcasts got the books. You've got something else. But the central point of all of it is that message. So in the long term, it's not so important about which tactics are which medium. Building that community sharing that message.
‘Ellen DeGeneres Show’ Workplace Is Under Investigation By Warner Media
"Reports of a toxic work, culture and crew furious over poor communication during the Corona virus shut down. Despite the bad reports, there have not been any direct allegations made about Ellen herself. For more on all the bad news that the Ellen Show will speak to Matt Donnelly Sr. Film writer at Variety, so essentially human resources representative for both the production company that makes Ellen just called Tele Pictures and Morning brother. It's which obviously, areas the program or distributes it have both come together and sort of pursuit of information about sort of the day to day experience for Ellen's employees, a member, we have changed the sort of reference the stories said that their goal is to ultimately create a work environment where ever wanted sort of protected. And also can sort of advance and flourish and safety, So I think it's you know, a pretty responsible move on their part, But at this point, what we know is that they're reaching out to current and former employees to discuss their experiences, where presumably will conduct as sort of a larger report about what if anything, needs to change their Now, let's talk about these two reports just to kind of see what we're working with here. Back in April, Variety reported on the treatment of crew members during the Corona virus locked down so very loosely when things initially shut down, there was crew members who were saying that we weren't really being told what was going to be the fate of our ours or our pay. And then when Ellen's resumed some sort of filming at her home, they were kind of left out of the lurch on that, too. And I guess they hired Nonunion workers to do that work instead of them. Yeah, A lot of the sources we spoke with who are familiar with the production basically say that her long term crew people have been with her sums of the entire 17 year run of the show. Just expected a better level of treatment in terms of if and when they would come back, You know, up until the moment we published a report that Legacy crew was told to sort of expect dramatically reduced compensation, even though the show of going on filming at the normal rate, so I think a lot of people thought sort of betrayed in away by mixed messages, especially for someone who's banner. Heather staying for her jealous to be kind, and some say this is very difficult situations, obviously, in the confusion and chaos of the Corona virus pandemic that hidden in some ways, it makes sense. Maybe hire those non union workers because they have to do something, maybe things that the union might not have agreed for their workers, depending on safety, and all that, So sometimes those things make sense. But they were just saying that They weren't even afforded that choice or whatnot. Of course. Yeah, I think it was a lack of transparency that really got people. And yes, you know, Krone viruses cause such a dramatic ripple effect how we do or more specifically how we don't do production at the moment. So, yeah, the union might have to look the other way occasionally on getting some people back to work instead of, you know, sort of a massive sun town. But again, I think it was that sort of lack of care. That really got to some long term employees. Yeah, and the pay was also an issue. I know. They told them you're gonna get reduced hours or reduced Pay that way. But shortly after you guys posted your story, then it started coming out. Well, well, they're going to get paid their full amount. They're full pay all that stuff. I think that the production sort of realised, But the right thing to do was especially because if you follow the logic through if they were taking the same amount of episodes, that means that this is going into syndicated viewership and selling the same amount of advertising No one's really losing money on the end. It's just obviously out of an abundance of caution here to figure out how to actually make the show. But you know again, and I think Hollywood is a town that when your staff looks the way that l Inez and you've got no. Ah, working family or some people put it in the over 17 years, they expect you to cover them The way they've covered. You end up with a large part of the frustration and you know another thing. That was in that same report was that you know, no one had even stepped in and said, How are you? How are your family? How is your mental house? Which I think a lot of companies, you know, including the publisher Variety. Ah, lot of people didn't do that. You know that They were here for you. If you knew Greece sources that child care if you need meditation class you any number of things to sort of band together in a really unprecedented in highly stressful time. A lot of people thought that that wasn't done and we're quite surprised. The other part of this. In mid July, Buzzfeed published a report alleging a toxic work culture there. There was an employee who said that there was some racist behavior going around and a few other things that just really made working there on the show, not really tolerable. The budget reports have sort of a spectrum of accused behavior that is troubling from to start a sort of ID on that atmosphere of intimidation and fear. You know, there was some accounts of verbal abuse their accounts of sort of, you know, an idea that overall senior leadership it Alan felt, but no, it was a privilege to work there. And anyone who might complain about sort of the emotional atmosphere. Even working conditions could just move on because they couldn't find anyone else who had died of work, Carella It's a much more serious stuff like sensitive people of color on the head from jokes about two African American females being taken for each other because they have the same hairstyle to another employee being sort of shouted down an angry and resentful because she suggested that the entire staff received diversity and inclusion training. You know all this is supported by historians. That's quite serious, especially, I would say in the world we live in, which is a post me to world and if you even look at what's been happening in this country in the past two months There is it's incredibly justifiable demand for a lack of this toxicity and for transparent, clear on how we're all treating each other at work. Not one thing that I found interesting is that there is no specific
With Triple-Digit Temps Here, Los Angeles County Opens Several Cooling Centers
"Of the city and County Valley opening cooling centers today in tomorrow because of the heat wave, Ellen Chavez of the county Office of Emergency Management tells Cate x there in places like recreation centers and libraries. They provide an air conditioned space that free of charge. The centers can literally be a matter of life and death for some people without air conditioning. Aboard the Diamond Princess, a Case Study in Aerosol Transmission
"The diamond Princess cruise ship turned out to be a bit of a canary in the coal mine for the Corona virus outbreak back in late January 1 infected passenger boarded the ship. A month later, over 700 passengers were sick with covert 19. Others new research out today on how the virus spreads like wildfire across ships like this, and it serves as a major warning for how the virus transmits in everyday setting statement settings that were in like Charles and I in this office building. Dr. Joseph Allen is the director of the Healthy Buildings Program at Harvard, JJ Chan School of Public Health. Co author of the A Diamond franchise study. Dr Ellen. Thanks for joining us on connects in death First of all tell, Tell us about about your research and what we should know people like myself. People like Charles People who are are in situations where this virus can spread. Yeah. Thanks for having me on on. You described it perfectly carrying a coal mine. It caught our attention rightfully early on in this pandemic and should have been an early warning of just how easily this virus spread. If you recall, there were several 1000 people. On the cruise ship, and almost 20% of them got infected. That was even after a lock down. What we did with our study really was used that as a really A perfect experiment. Unfortunately, was an experiment in a bottle. With everything so controlled so well defined. We could really understand how this virus is transmitted and start to quantify it for the first time. With some depth and what we learned is this Airborne transmission. The longer range airborne transmission mean around a room. It is contributing a significant portion of the spread of this virus. Now. This is just trying to get some attention from one of the 239 scientists wrote a letter of the W H O a couple weeks ago. This made headlines that airborne transmission is happening despite CDC. W ll be reluctant to acknowledge its happening. This new shut study shows it's happening. It makes it a big part of the spread, and it has obvious implications for opposite schools and every other Setting. We spend our time indoors and okay, So let's talk about what that translates to in terms of what offices and schools and buildings need to do. As you know most modern buildings. You can't open windows and that was designed years ago to be more energy efficient. So you can't open the window unless you want to throw a chair through it. So what are we supposed to do? That's a good question. So first keep doing the controls that we know what working in Washington absolutely, where mask that helps us all forms of transmission as well. And social distancing is good day one that we need to do more of it. Fewer people pay attention to is bringing in more fresh outdoor air. We're bringing ventilation. So if you do have operable windows, you open him up. Facilitate the movement of air coming in there with the fan the window If you're in a building that has airconditioning on H B C system mechanical system, you want to talk to the building owner get more fresh outdoor air coming in through that system. Any air that's were circulated. Must go three. Merv 13 filter or better? MDRV. Usually they use a murdered eight U Want to murder 13? And you could think about supplementing that in schools Homes office with a portable air cleaner with HEPA filter, the kind you'd buy it, you know, Home Depot, our target or Wal Mart er online. Yeah, but here's the thing, But But But here's the thing, Doctor. Ah, Just to take. You know, Christmas talking like we're in the studio here. So you know, I'm looking. We've got all kinds of stuff. We got Purell. We've got Clorox. We've got Germany. We've got you name it. We've got all kinds of things to scrub surfaces. Uh, but for companies to come in and put in new ventilation systems and new filtering systems That's a lot more money than getting a canister of wipes. Well, look, I mean, the reality is that it's important to wash your hands. Do all that. But the majority of your exposures coming through other means you're gonna have to wear a mask that's not expensive. And the recommendations we've been giving in February not to go in and replace your system or spend $1,000,000 on some new fancy control system is really getting down to the basics here. Your existing system can bring in more air than it's doing. You have a you have a filter on the recirculated air Get a better one. A portable air cleaner's $200. You guys should have one in your studio right now. So I'm not talking about expensive multi $1,000,000 upgrades take many months. You could have your space performing a lot better. In the next 30 minutes. If you want to plug in a portable air cleaner with the mask on, get the ventilation going a bit better. So it's a misnomer that this has to be expensive or time consuming to fix being in office school dental office, you name it. They don't put up with her shenanigans right. They throw it right back on her face and he just loves it it. It's so fun to watch her. As producers servers we always love when. Someone's out there and Challenges Ellen pokes her little well share shares. Very confident in who she is and what she does and she doesn't need to take any any grief from Ellen and she knows literally the opposite of me literally you see share onstage rehearsing or song and you go like my God She has been doing this forever. She is like the consummate professional knows. Exactly what to do has incredible comic timing and just it just brings it so now. Kevin had a brilliant idea that none of us thought would actually happen in which he was overdue for. We have but dr dry bar next to my favorite drinking place. And Kinda pissed her through some ideas he wanted to do and told her where we had some whigs hidden but and he was a little shaking voice and Kevin never gets nervous. A little shaky shakey celebrities. Still Shaky made me happy. It was fun. And like that's the coolest thing about our job is like Kevin Leman grew up loving share air and now he's producing her in comedy piece so it really is a cool job and it never gets old to me. Mary tell the story of Kevin Leman. I'm so glad you asked Ed so Kevin Kevin Leman came to us out of the NBC page program. He began as really sort of just a young man who was mostly straight or confused with his sexuality is surgery but yeah great. We hired him. I believe as a production assistant assistant and he was a producer's assistant. He did a number if things very quickly he became a writer after submitting some material to Alan how many years before he became a writer too so so meteoric but we were you need in the first few weeks of the show well. He appeared on the very first episode of the Ellen. Degeneres show great because he's an amazing. He's an amazing artist. Full face He became a writer he then became the head writer. And in that you become the head writer so two years in. We're starting our sixteenth season in in season. Three you became a writer and then when did you become the head writer. I think officially seasons seven long story Short Kevin is now an executive producer. Ellen made him yeah okay all right okay. That's pretty much. And he's an EP when I was young and I'm old. But here's what's interesting Ed. How long have we all been together at the Ellen Degeneres Show sixteen years? We've been here since the beginning. Yeah never never. This is really the first time anyone who wanted to hear what we've had to say. I'm not sure if they want to marry. Oh well that's the first time we're at this point we have zero listeners. Left Kev. There was such an amazing moment in that piece. There's such an incredible moment. If you know sixteen years years in it feels like everything has happened but how often does someone call Ellen a word. LYNN LOVES COMES TO TO POKE POKE POKE and push buttons and share put up with it for a while and then just unleashed a little bit on Ellen in a way that made made Ellen Laugh her head off.

And I said DJ was cool. Tell me to calm Dietsch. It's just like I'm sorry. I've worked with the rock. Yeah. Again to you. It was a very painful he's ever said call me how shore were you after I was sore for about three days. Now, I'm not a regular exerciser as which may come as the surprise to Kevin. But I'm not a regular exercise. I play hockey once a week. And that's really the extent of my. This is just natural. This is just natural. Haven't seen. It titan games is like this crazy huge like American gladiators times ninja warriors times thousand. It was the most insane said I'd ever seen. It was outdoors at an old grace track and you come in. And it literally looks like like that movie with Russell Crowe gladiator. That's what it felt like you are entering an arena. So you were like a gladiator. Are you did you are you a titan or gladiator the set like light here? But it's the titan games. And it's just regular people like me who are extraordinary. No in physical, fitness. Yeah. It's bit. Here's the thing. Tight how wardrobe it wasn't great. It was here's the thing. And this is what I'm convinced. Most of the average Andy segments are generated from the writers. The writers are run by our friend sitting right here. Kevin leman. I am convinced that Kevin Leman specifically picks. What average Andy's we're going to do based on? What will be the most unflattering wardrobe for me? I gotta say I was annoyed that you look so good in. This one kidding me of your natural roles. The Spanish, right? It was like a spanks on you. Yeah. It was. It was really what I'm going to say no matter what the task. Yeah. Matter what the challenge. Yes, you go at it. One hundred percent I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm titan. Maybe I honestly going when they were showing me what I was gonna do. I literally my head thought. Oh, I can do this. I'm going to be good at it. And then I got tired. We'll just the video of you running at the beginning to run to the first thing natural runner your hands. Trying to get speed. I was told you pump your arms when you spring. Here's a little bit of it. And then you have to promise to watch the show on your DVR because you have to see how wonderfully average and everybody Dwayne Johnson here also known as the rock. To the Spanish right box office heavyweight. They say box office. King get I don't brag star of the television..

"We had fun this week preparing for Sarah Paulson to come back. Kevin how much did it cost? I don't do the numbers dead. You spend the numbers some fun ideas. Paid for him. Yeah. We had a wonderful producer name, Melissa scientists, Sarah and she came up. We've scared her first of all we scared her in every way we've ever scared anyone on the. Yes. Ellen in the bathroom at the scare table behind. Her built a special box could scare her during five second rule. So listen, I've been to the house with her when we sent her house. Yeah. So let's camp with some really crazy ideas to scare her. That seem insane. We actually dug out a tunnel underneath Ellen's your idea member that was Mary's idea. I'm hearing now. Dug a tunnel under Ellen's chair, basically. So that Sewri a sub flooring flooring. Well, if you notice the platform of of what we call home base, which is where Ellen chairs are you have to take a couple of steps up to get to them. So there's gotta be some room underneath a little bit of room. So they cleared out some some boards, and we made a tunnel. So Corey could crawl from backstage into that box after Ellen showed her that it was empty. So we open the table to show, Sarah. There's no one in the table to scare right? Then we'd close the table and somebody crawls you guys you guys know what we are suddenly we're kinda like magicians, it was a lot like a little like look there's nothing here. And then suddenly Elissa had an absolutely shame. What to do a ninja dropping from the sky to scare Sarah Paulson? It was so fast. And so startling. It was and the what you really you have in your mind. What you hope that will be. And this didn't disappoint great. So if you wanna see that go check, your DVR's, and and check out this show because because we're podcast, even if we play a clip of screaming, you can't see how it happened. But we're going to play a clip here's quip of screaming. God. Can I open it up? There's nothing in here. Nobody in there guys know what they like to do. Right. Go to yourself now. I'm scared. I know any just scream I did know I saw you look at tiny bit over my shoulder like something happened via nothing's happening. So you do impressions. And you're really good at accents impression. So we're gonna play heads up because you like heads up. Right. I do love ice game. And I like your impressions to I didn't know. I saw you on Jimmy Fallon me doing who. Are you doing Barrymore? Maybe yet. You're just good at impressions. Thanks. All right. So I'm gonna guess who you're doing. And no this. This part. It out. I'm saying play Andy. Okay. All right. This is fun. Okay. Okay. Oh. I don't I come do this very well. But I'm doing all kinds of poses in anonymous staged. Let's go accent NAMA stage. I am yet. Does I have no idea? Oh, I'm round. If you own. What am I doing here on how they really would like to offer some kind of of this Wade we accent? I'm doing a vanity Benji thing with the tool with lots of already. But I don't know who you are. I'm not supposed to be passed and it's an accent. Okay. It's It's not to get. supposed to get. I don't know if it's all right? Let me tell you something. The whole. I wanna say that looks like sit down. All right. Creative. We have to. I know we had to build tunnel and. That's why I was able to it was empty and then he came in during the commercial break..

"That's math NASA's dot com slash in or call eight five five nine one two m a t h I can't believe the proximity that you guys get to guerrillas when you everybody when you go you'll see like, you're not way, I want to go. It is something that everyone must do. First of all, a safari is something everyone must do. But for sure to be that close to these magnificent majestic creatures that that have so much power that don't wanna hurt you that are just sitting there just that's that's what seems very unattainable like five. Nansha? But the more popular they've become they've they've they have the very high end luxury safaris, but they do have economical ways for you to do it. You can stay in a motel, and they'll just bring you a stuffed animal. That's exactly right. That's what I'll be doing with my family. But yeah, it's cool. It's like it seems to be on pretty much. Everyone's bucket list is like, oh, yeah. I want to go on a safari and then to see. Yeah. And it should be because I mean, it you are entering their territory. It's their world and the way that they look at you is I mean, it's it's hard to describe. I remember just before we went we had dinner, and Leo DiCaprio was at this dinner on that was a name dropping someone here in L A. Sorry. Or the name. Leo was at the dinner. But you know, in of all the things that Leo has done in his life with his foundation because I mean, he's away. Leo has dedicated himself to the environment is it's it's unbelievable. It's really an amazing. But he said one of his favorite things was this guerilla truck owners Wanda. Yeah. Wow. All right. So you may have seen this on the show. But this is Porsche's. This is the ground breaking ceremony attended by Porsche Ellen was back here. Doing shows. Thanks to us in Rwanda first week of at where it's really amazing ticket. Listen so a couple of weeks ago. My wife Porsche went to Rwanda she was there for the ground breaking ceremony for my campus that we're building for the Dian Fossey gorilla fund to help protect the mountain gorillas, and it was an incredible experience. And I want to show you more of what happened because she it was it's amazing. This thing came about because I thought what on earth? Do you give the woman who has everything? So I thought the best gift that I could give her was a way to connect her past to her future at a little girl. Now seeing that brave woman scientists who left her comfortable life to set up a tent in the Rwandan forest to save a species on the brink of extinction was transformative for Ellen's it made her see the world differently, and it made her see her place within it differently. I gave this gift to Ellen because we both love and wanted to protect gorillas after coming here. However, we fell in love with the country and its people. This is. The guys on. So this campus isn't for me or for Ellen. It's to the people of Rwanda, it is my hope that the campus will serve as a catalyst to encourage US Dream bigger to know that we too can make an impact and that all of us can become trailblazers just like Ellen and. Brian. Incredible. You know, they're endangered like there's not a lot of them. No, there's well. There was eighty and then the Reese the recent count. I think we're up to a thousand. So it's real conservation success story, which is rare. There's a thousand gladdens. Wow. Just glavin. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Wait. Okay. You know, I just want. I just want to tell all of our listeners our listeners now that that Eboni or wearing the same sweater. Yes. They are. We'll we'll post a photo. We'll post you have a very similar. It's going to be honest. It looks better on you. I don't know. If you if you. Yeah, we should post a photo. But just so, you know, Eddie's ED's wearing a lady shirt. Just so everyone's clear, and I it's wearing, you know about your Marsh, della fanny pack, and I too have a Gucci fanny pack. Remember when you got your first big screen TV life changer. And I always go first of all if you think she's beautiful when you see on TV, she's even more beautiful on person. She's the most stylish woman, I know like lorries of signed my wife is obsessed with kind. She's smart. She has a business, and she most importantly, she's cool. Cool and the most talented actress. Yes. L in my mcbeal. I know that was a while ago. Yes, you were. And then my gosh, arrested development. You're so good at everything you tackle. It's just. Yes. She is. And now businesswoman. Yeah. No. I thought I'd quit acting and try doing something else for a change. So, yeah, it's been it's been awesome. It's been any parts. You miss of the acting. You know, I was I'm I'm missed being around funny people like you guys at I also live with me. Before you came as you said, you're at work. I really did say that so hard to please. The groups the energy of being around super funny. People arrested development everyone in that cast is just so Larry. And you know, we kind of had a report like you guys have. And and you know, you make each other laugh every day. And that's about the only thing that I miss other than the fact that my wife is hilarious funny. She is energy. And we we thank you that you share her so much with us because we pinch ourselves every day at this ridiculous, job and luck that we've had six. Yeah. Is crazy. So that just feels good just noticed that your mic is closer to your mouth and anyone else's says it's because it's usually a problem. I usually turns away from the my hair he tells me, I'm not loud enough sometimes. And as as host that's important for the host to be heard when we don't have Ellen Porsche on the podcast this level of attentiveness does not exist. Porsche just returned from a little trip to Canada. Yes. Yes. We sold out some arenas and did some Q in a. And then they loved when when she was on stage. I'm so glad she wasn't gonna come with me because she's got a job and she's trying to make this business grow bigger. And and she wasn't going to come. But I'm so glad you did. "I just got Eddie was driving to lunch and just sent me a couple of billboards that he saw on the way they're starting to go up. So December eighteen is Ellen has. Standup comedy special. It's her return to stand up after fifteen sixteen years of doing this show. And I'm just going to tell you that I had the pleasures as did Mary. Ann. Ed Kevin didn't care enough to make the trip, but Mary Ed, and I were there for the taping. I know Ellen. I love Ellen. I've now worked with her for sixteen years. Absolutely. Without a doubt belly laughing. Having been to a couple of the stand up shows before while she was working out her material. I got there. I was like, okay. And the whole building was shaking with laughter. And it was it was a rickety building, we couldn't get. To laugh and then to see everybody around me laughing. It was just it was like it was like a religious experience. People people had a really good times fun. It's a whole different people ask what the differences between the show and stand up and there's a big difference. It's just me by myself on stage with an audience, and it's kind of just a more intimate. Not that the show isn't intimate. But doing stand up is is just a me by myself without a guest without anything just talking for an hour. And and in talking about other things that I don't normally talk about on the show. And also, it's it's an hour of me talking. It's not just coming up for monologue. And then going into interviews people gonna watch it over and over again, it's everything it's everything you expect it to be times. Ten right. It's fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Really funny comedy. And then Ellen takes questions from the audience, which is always fun and always. Unpredictable and Ellen ever knows. What's going to happen? The audience never knows what's going to happen. And it's really really funny. Yeah. It's good. And the truth is I have to say the reason Kevin wasn't there as he actually was in Australia overseas. Andy game of games. I went to allow the test that is as good if not better than you describe it. So what you are the best at. Porsche had never seen me do it. And she was she just put piling too much on my plate. She just thought it was way too busy to to add that to my summer. And then once she saw me on stage for the very first time when I started trying stuff out. She's like, oh my God. You're this is what you're supposed to do. So it was great to see someone. I love so much that that she, you know, really loved watching it and went to every single show watched every single everything. So it was really fun. Did you see how much I loved it? No. I said people in love, okay. After this. I did it the last minute. Get you. And just give me podcast. Why? Decide to do that. Really don't know. I mean. I don't have an answer that Eddie said, you know, they keep asking you. If you want to do a Netflix special, and he'd mentioned it to me before. But I just never zones agent agent. And he just said, you know, you don't have to do it right away. But we should just make a deal. Just in case you come up. So I made a deal actually on the way home from getting the medal of freedom. We were on the plane on the way home from getting the medal of freedom. So what would that to us? And so I made it that long ago. And then I just was I almost gave the money back so many times because they gave me a deposit, and I was like oh my God. I'm never going to think of anything, and I almost I almost cancel it. So many times to return the fifteen thousand dollars. Sorry. And all of a sudden out of nowhere. I came up with this whole relatable idea. I was in Tahiti. Go to heat. It's just hit me this whole thing about being relatable. And and just, but but making just a ridiculous not really being relatable. And that the name came to me, the the whole I twenty minutes came to me. And then I had to write another forty minutes. Another forty minutes. Here's a tiny tiny clip of what you can see next Tuesday, a friend of mine was at my house, and I told him I'm gonna do stand up again..

Do you talk about plan? Anything not really? But here's what we make this. This was a good week for Ellen Ellen heads some amazing guests here this week. And and some not so mazing. Well. That's not true. That's that's true. Well, one of our favorite people in the world. Jennifer Aniston was here. This was a genuine actual friend of Ellen's rather. They spend time together. Socially, socially. Yeah. Yes. I like her a lot, and she's my friend. What does she think of you? I don't know. No. She loves you. She seems like she likes. She seems like. Yeah. What about the birthday party idea? That's such a great idea. She seems open to that. She does. One hour on the show celebrating their life and their birth. She doesn't need to spend time in makeup and come work. I mean, it's work. I think she felt like it would take pressure off her that we would sort of fed her. We'll somebody's gonna do something. It's not like no one's doing something for but deal. It's nice that you're doing it and take it in. Well, we just walked by the picture of your sixtieth birthday party on show. We know how to throw a good. I hope she does she's gonna do it. We FaceTime a lot really. Do you like seeing someone while you're talking to him on the phone? I hate FaceTime. I don't she's a big fan of FaceTime. And she started it and then now every once in a while one spot. Yes, usually I'm usually in bed like because it's nine thirty. And she's you know. Hate it. Really? If you're gonna be on the phone. Also. You also have that out of proportion head. So it's close to probably. The whole thing doesn't get in. Rotating FaceTime, right? I think. Ellen and Jennifer Aniston, always fun homerun fun. Take a listen..

"I was so taken by how moved Ellen was. Chatting with Lisa German again. And how Ellen kept referring to Lisa as part of the family a little bit too, which which we have all believed and Ellen hasn't seen her in a number of years, and they just sort of fell back into this lovely little friendship that they've that. They've had all these years. One of the things that's amazing to watch producing the show is to watch the way Ellen is inspired by regular people who overcome adversity. Yeah. Versus really really moves Ellen. And that's really meaningful to us. Yeah. I think that's what's meaningful to our view. I mean, I don't know. See what drives through to do the show now. But yeah. Yeah. Fuel as loves to be funny. She loves to be entertaining. She also loves to be inspired and introduce all of us to people that inspire her and she really found Lisa's tackling her health issues inspiring. You know, as executive producers, we all know, everything that's going to happen in the show, we planet. We talk about it, except when it involves scaring one of us or something that's going to humiliate one of us, usually me. My question is do you guys ever have meetings and think because we're talking about inspiring people, maybe Ellen should give a Hindi. A shutter flight check. Not just asking I'm not saying it should happen. But does the idea at least come up? I'm going to be honest with you Andy never once had a conversation where we said Andy should give out that I showed her flagger. And I remember ten years ago Kanye performed at our outdoor show in Burbank in the park, and he came into our came into Ellen's office while we were briefing with a Louis Vuitton backpack pulled out his backpack opened up his computer and said this isn't going to be out for a year. But let me play it for you. And he played a song by by himself and Chris Martin from Coldplay call I think called homecoming. And I was like oh my God. How can I hear the song? And then what's amazing is over the course of the years that we've been doing the show you have fallen more deeply in love with the Halloween show every year. It's allies. No, no, no. I'm going to say I'm going to say you may not want to admit it, but you you like it more than you used to? Well, that's not saying much well by saying, I like it more than I used to. But now I mean, it's it's sometimes it's funny and sometimes it's it's, yeah, it's fun. It's fine. I can tell you having with very funny. Yeah, like the writers try to surprise you in the morning. That is my favorite part of the day somehow that has to be that's never been for sixteen years. Let me explain what happens in our morning meeting for the last sixteen years. Kevin orchestrates all the writers to dress up and they come into our meeting. None of us know what they're going to be dressed up. Usually in the fem- in. This show on the show Ellen and but it's never reported. No one gets for my birthday in for Halloween. All the writers come in and do something for me. And it's obviously because their comedy writers, they're hilarious and the costumes are very creative. Sometimes we can't air the things. Sometimes we do pretty much never. With your gift with Porsche, every bursary we're already struggling like, what are we gonna do this year? We have no idea because all of our best ideas, we've done one idea, but we'll see. Yeah, I don't know. Ahead do you do you plan that apple now? Usually three weeks out, but he always downplays it like if we ask him about it, he's like, I don't know. We have no idea what he's going to do until he walks into the room. I know they're good when they make me nervous and like Melissa, he goes home and he makes the costumes. Here's my question. When you're out, obviously in public, you get a lot of people approaching you because you're Ellen Degeneres. Are you getting a lot of feedback about the podcast. When you out there, what? What? What are you hearing? Yeah, the buzz is an enormous saying, what is it what right now? I know it was number five. Where are we right now in the podcast. Here number one, but we just crossed over five hundred thousand. Five hundred thousand people have the potential to to listen to the podcast every week, and now it's not that they do. And now that they know you're a regular part now that they know that you're gonna hear every week. I'll be here every week and dress up. Today. Yeah, yeah, thank you. Yeah, very low. Thank you. These are killing my feet most. Yeah, most people dress up like that for a show and then change into normal close after yet. I wear. I wear pants suit on the show. And then when I changed to to drive home, I'm in a either a gown or a short cocktail dress. So you like to drive in a he'll surprised pump is the best way to drive is a is in a pump. And that way, if I'm speeding. Yeah, just a pump and a two. Leading, I can. I can get out of it that way. That's why don't. Yep. I'm getting attacks. Go ahead. Yes, is blowing up. Because right now they're replacing them with paper straws. And they say that there's good plastic straws, but the only time they don't work really is if you put them in any kind of liquid. Or if you put your mouth on them that. Or if you try to put them through a hole in the lid, otherwise they work, they work perfectly. "ellen" Discussed on Ellen on the Go
"Hi, it's Ellen Degeneres. Welcome to my podcast. We're gonna listen to some of the best moments from the show, and it's going to be hosted by four executive producers that I love happy listening, welcome to another episode of. I'm having to start. I don't want it. Head start. Go, go ahead. Go ahead. Another episode of Ellen on the go. I'm your host Andy last nerve and joining me today. Are you kidding me? Friends, Mary Connolly. Ed, glavin and Kevin Leman. Who helped me out putting this show together. All right. You're fired. You want, what do we have on the show today? Kevin, Cate Blanche's go teach us about truffle, hunting and cursing. Simon cowl discusses how fatherhood has changed him and Ellen set up a scare that is very, very elaborate and hilarious. We'll tell you all about so over the weekend last weekend, Andy sends Ellen a video that he saw of two snakes that had fallen out of a ceiling in mid fight onto the floor of a home in Australia. And yes. And the reason I send it to Ellen is because one of our writers are women and ballion is petrified. Petrified. Petrified of snakes and Ellen likes to send her snake videos. And so what I did was I saw this horrifying snake video as described to like pythons that fell through the event of a home, how how long were they? Do? You figure seven, eight feet near fight. So just picture yourself in your home. Home and suddenly to snakes fall from the ceiling in a fight serpentine or whatever. That was almost looked like one snake with two heads. Yeah, it was together are fine. So so I send it tell in like at seven AM on a Saturday morning and go, I'm gonna let you send this to Alison, right? So Ellen didn't send it to Allison, but we showed it in one of the writers meetings and then that gave Kevin Kevin and Ellen an idea. Well, yeah, the minute we walked out another one of our writers Troy notice that there's a tiled ceiling Ellen's office and said, we've got to put snakes above Allison. So here's, here's the one thing you need to know is that for the last sixteen years, essentially everybody has a signed seats in the meeting. Everybody sits in the same place, not assign. Yeah, but we all have our seats. The same seat like Andy sits as close to Elena's. He can get. Yes. I'm also in charge. So, yeah. Oh my God. So everybody has the same seats. Everybody sits in the same seats. So Ellen wants us to the Warner Brothers, special effects team involved, and we get a motor put above the ceiling the night. This is all happening while we're also making. Why would you tell any of us about? I wouldn't because big mouths, the only person I told her glavin of course. So we get all the wheels in motion. We have special effects with a ladder, and I'm petrified because there's expensive art all over the office, but we get all rigged up, get to rubber snakes in the thing right above Ellen Allison, right, Rev Alison. Sorry. And then they have to run a cable through the ceiling tile around a window down the side of a wall through the carpet under Ellen's chair. And then they give her a little trigger button right in her seat so that she has control of when these draw stakes are going to drop on Alison. We had go pros all over the room, a hidden microphone. We built a binder that hell the hidden camera. We wouldn't like we spent twenty four thousand dollars. To do stupid prank. Probably not approved. And the other are just finding out about that now, and I apologize in advance. But it was well worth it by not telling anyone else except for that. It was happening. All the reaction was a reaction from every single person. It was produced this podcast and you'll who runs our entire digital department. The way that he fell off his stool and was crawling on the ground, screaming at a fishing did not know, was achievable by him was interesting. This an Andy dart out of the room like they are run a fine, save yourself. Yeah. Out of the room. Yeah. So fast Alison had across the entire room to get out of the room the way that neither of them fought it necessary to protect the host right now. Not. I'm the guy who steps over my kids to get out of situations..
