"And I'm Janet. Hi Janet How's it going. Good how are you. I'm good. I'm excited to talk to you about this movie you. I'm very excited. Talk about the lovely bone. Yes but actually before we do. We want want to address a listener. Email that we meant to do during last episode and then didn't get a chance to so sally our friend who recommended the ballot of Buster scruggs to us. She emailed back after listening to the episode. Yes she did and I think we had talked about this when when we recorded busters squad cleaver curious as to why she would have recommended this film to us so she had felt that it was going to be a challenging Ellen ging film to recast because of the style of the movie the way it's shot sort of inven- yet but I didn't. I didn't find that challenging. I don't know did you not necessarily I think the most challenging part of it is that it added a step in that we said which vignettes are we gonNA recast. But that's that's it. Yeah what I found challenging was watching. The movie apologized for that. Go and thank you. I hope it doesn't discourage you from sending US picks further on agreed sally. If you have any more recommendations foundation's please throw the MARAE for sure. Yeah Okay and now moving onto the lovely bones. So this one was Janet's pack and I would love for you to tell me why well I have told you this story times clearly. Well you have forgotten podcast. I needed to tell the listeners. Who So this movie originally was on my radar because Ryan thank God? Sling had been tied to this movie. That's why the movie even entered my orbit of interest. Originally He. He was tapped to play Jack. Salmon the died and basically pe- people want like the whole story. They really should just google it. Because it's all out there on the Internet but basically what happened was and Ryan Gosling has admitted did that. He was fired. He showed up to set for the movie and he was literally fired from the film by Peter. Jackson like take a few days before they were going to start production on the movie because he was too fat he gained Ryan Gosling felt his sort of perception. Was that the character of Jack Salmon. Should we like two hundred and ten pounds. He should be like a bigger man and Peter. Jackson did not agree with us so apparently Peter Jackson fired him. That's sort of the legend agent and Ryan. Gosling has actually come out and said that. That's what happened. How much of that is true or not again like who knows right? That's the back story to it and that was why I was sort of interested in seeing the movie and also recasting it because I had a feeling that Mark Mark Wahlberg was probably not a great choice for Jack Salmon and I was right I have to say I agree. What's interesting is that while L.? Looking up facts and articles and whatnot about this movie. There's conflicting stories on the Ryan Gosling situation because one of the things I read is stat. He didn't fully say he backed out but it did say that he felt he was too young and he didn't really want to do it. There was one particular. Take your story from the Hollywood reporter that actually it was a round table discussion that they did with Actors Ryan Gosling actually gave them that story that I just said what happened by the way I think he was too young. He was twenty six at the time. So that is pretty young to have a fourteen eighteen year old daughter. Yeah I think he was probably not a good choice either. I love the. He thought he had to weigh two two hundred two hundred ten pounds. Like I don't know why like I just think that's so funny but who knows. Maybe he thought that would make him look older. Perhaps you yeah okay. So what was the box office for this movie. The the budget for the movie was sixty five million which probably sounds like a lot and I think if you've actually seen in this movie you'll understand why that number is so high because there seems to be a lot of CGI and whatnot and that's all expensive right. The the box office was ninety. Three million so I mean it did okay but I don't know that that's necessarily a success on sixty five million budget. Yeah I don't think so because one of the numbers that I saw was on top of the sixty five million there was another eighty five million put into promotion emotion. which is I don't know what a typical promotional budget is? But that's huge and I don't know that it. Yeah well I mean it. Was You know it was critically I think. People were divided I read mixed reviews but it did Garner a best supporting actor nomination for Stanley Tucci diameter. Yeah can you believe that. That's Stanley. Jeez only only Oscar nomination. I can't several times. He's one of my absolute favorites and I love him and he's very good in this. He's year he disturbing lake. He earned that Oscar nomination for sure. Yeah do you WanNa you wanNA give our listers take Synopsis Lucia. Sure so this is based on a novel by Alice seebold. It was her debut novel and the movie. Synopsis is a young girl who has been murdered watches over her family and her killer from purgatory. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal. Uh I don't know how do you feel about that synopsis. It feels a little bit like yes. Yeah well I don't know I mean I didn't actually actually read this book. No I did. Neither I'm kind of curious to read it now to be honest because I read mixed things things about the movie but from what I understand. The movie is a very different version of what happens in the book. NAUTICA adopt basically is what I read. I don't know who said this but I read that someone said that if you were a fan of of the book that you probably shouldn't watch the movie right but that's often. The case was book adopt -Tations Rain. But I don't know there are parts of the movie that I think are still in the book and things that I did have problems with. I'm not sure I'd be curious to read the book. I kind of want to now. I'll have to say meet meet you. Yeah Okay so before we get into the full re-casting we'll take a quick break. Like I said I had a feeling that Mark Wahlberg was the wrong long casting. In my opinion he two hundred percent is so wrong for the thrall.

"But then you stop and ask okay. How honest are we really the way we think? And the way we speak and the things that we we do have certainly fall short of it and I believe in one hundred percent I fall short and of those. I think it's extremely difficult to even communicate. Honestly because there's so many different shades aids and variations in in the way we speak in way we present things hundred percent. Generally we liked percent things Dr Benefit even even though technically in a court of law they might be true but we know we've misled the other person. Yeah always say things so the other person isn't offended. which would be to our benefit? I guess I go well you know I had. I had several experiences. Come back in and I think this this is fundamental to everything and that's the importance of integrity and being honest with yourself thing honest honest with with with other people. And that's difficult to do. I I learned at and scouting or scout is trustworthy and start to get an idea of AH. This is is more involved than what I thought just like church and learned it the academy. We had the honor Code. Yeah and I will not lie cheat or steal. Yeah and another thing came in about north tolerate those among us. Who Do which is kind of a military thing when you've had a lot of structures that were between scouts and church in the military and I'd even say and maybe this way I it just society fifty years that you know had a fridge? I mean a really solid moral framework so I mean you weren't lacking at that anyway. I want you to finish that a couple well. I'm just saying I'm just saying that. All those things led to the point that that that I think that I could actually accept what we call is restored Gospel or the fullness of the Gospel. Well Jesus Christ that I realize how challenging it is and how humility plays a part in growing growing as well as wanting to find. The truth is a lifelong thing. And it's it's challenging Ellen. GING is Heartbreaking sometimes it's but it's also fulfilling and I think we're giving challenges along the way then allow us to grow and I think often those challenges that come are personally designed designed for us to get us through the next phase or the next stage of growth I've had disappointments in my life had losses in my life that I didn't understand time some. I'm still we'll wondering about.

"To see where the travel insurance covers airline bankruptcy especially if you're traveling to Europe and the nephew speaking of Europe. If you're thinking about traveling the next summa and you want want to use your frequent flyer points to get there You won't want to miss this fall. Nineteen to Vietnam next. I'm joined by Bronwyn Tuna. Who is a member of the award flight? Assist Tame specializing in award travel to Europe. Europe is one of the most popular destinations for Australians is using their frequent flyer points and Running award flat assistive. We've seen quite a trend that around this time of year people really looking to use the points to travel to Europe group for the following year during the European summa say travelling to European June July August is. It's it's summer in Europe. It's the paid time and it's around the school holidays as well. So it's it's very very popular if you're looking to use your points to travel to Europe next summer now be the time to do so because the seeds do sell out fast. Nick be quite hard to find a would availability. And that's why I've brought on this episode one of our award flight. His Travel Consultants Bronwyn Tuna. Who is also known on Australian frequent fliers Brian Flyer? Welcome to the PODCAST Bronwyn. Thanks Matt very happy to be here. F- an would fly deceased client. Wants help with redeeming points to year. They'll probably put in touch with Bronwyn. Now Bronwyn is specializing in the quite difficult task of finding a would availability to Europe however this summer period. She's the ideal person to talk about. How you can actually go about finding those seats and Brooklyn? I wanted to ask you firstly when when you're looking to use frequent flyer points to Europe. What's the best program to be using the best program for Alabama D. and also for value I find to be Krisflyer and that's without question as well as having excellent availability across classes The low charges also are very a attractive The lack of carrier surcharges that we see with a lot of the other programs and also the points required for the premium. Cabins are also excellent solent value as well as the ability to find sates. Even the busiest time so those seats may not be at the same rate. They may be the advantage awards spit which are more expensive but still available and that is often the case pointed those busy times actually finding Availability ability particularly in the busy summer months. Yes finding award availability in with any free fly program to Europe especially in business affairs costs and promote multiple people and in school holidays can be very very difficult as anyone. Who's ever tried to do that very well with Chris Flyer? It's as you say it's quite good. I found that you can actually find availability even for four people. You can take your whole family over. What Tips would you give to somebody looking forward availibility on Singapore Airlines wizz. Where do you actually Look for the Oval Ability. I find are quite easy to search for vulnerability on the actual Singapore lawns website. I find that quite easy to use to search you. You've got the ability to search for seven days at a time so you can look at award flights around the The dates it's that you want rather than having to look day by day and You can search quite easily for different locations and I think that's really important to be flexible people as well. I find that a lot of people are a lot of the the clients coming to award flight assist wonderfully in London. Because you know it's popular. It's wonderful who doesn't want to go to London but finding availability into London can be quite difficult and so It's important also. I think to be flexible. And to look at other European cities way which just a short hop away or even to other U. K. option such as Flying into Manchester for example. Yeah that's her in. Singapore Airlines does fly to I think eleven twelve destinations in Europe so his woes London Manchester saying Frankfurt Amsterdam. Paris Zero Communiqu in Stockholm. Even use it off. Actually there's often availability to fund Singaporean. Lines say lots of options and also lots of CD's out of Australia. That Singapore says what about people I know. Hey that a lot of People have a stack of quotas points that they want to use. It is significantly harder as as Vice paper will to find availability a using Qantas Airlines to get from St Louis to Europe. So if someone has quotas points where should they be looking to redeem points to get to Europe. This is particularly difficult difficult. If you don't have quantum status oh those we the gold and platinum status and above can usually find the flights to get out of his strategy and back back into Australia. And they're the most difficult lake. Sam I think finding availability from Various Asian ports can be Not As challenging Ellen ging in fact Found even over the busiest months that this usually can find some availability out of Singapore out of DEVASAR OUT OF CHICAGO Out of Ben Kaku Koala lumper so if you can position yourself Even if The award flights aren't there on Qantas to get to those intermediate ports if you can tap spire shaped cash flight or somehow position yourself in one of those cities using yeah as I said casual perhaps perhaps Inaba Award points with another program And then pick up the availability with cattle with Fin- they are or Cathay Pacific various other halons out of Asian ports and if you really really want to use your points to get it all the way to Europe are there any particular routes that paper should be looking at an. I'm talking specifically here about NAM. Business Clause Award availability That actually do tend to have availability. The between Australia and Europe. One that I've found to be particularly useful is via narrator Tokyo The Japan Airlines which she also has a wonderful business product which as a by product. So it's no hardship to Fly Jail and out of Melbourne in particular and and into Melbourne. There is often good availability. You may not connect will in Japan and you may be forced to have a stopover or an over not ought and once again not a hardship because it is such a wonderful place so that's one to have a look at and From Japan then you have the option to you. fly to various locations and with Japan Lonzo with Finnair again with British airlines which often has very good availability ability and also can can get all the way to London from narrator and thereof some other Japanese cities as well that sometimes you can get availability to ASARCO and another option out of narrator that I didn't mention before is with Iberia into Madrid and that's Often has excellent availability ability and business classes. Well so that's another one to look at. Yeah and that's only one stop as well Melbourne Narita Madrid. And if you just search on the Qantas website for Melbourne's Madrid. It's probably not gonNA come up say actually have to know that it exists and kind of use. The motorcity told kind of force that reaching out as you probably have an overnight stop in Tokyo but that's that's all right nothing wrong with Tokyo. I was just GonNa Interrupted say nothing wrong with landing in Madrid that that's a fabulous city to be pasta. The little stopover in hey exactly and the hub for Iberia say from there of course you can get To pretty much anywhere else in Europe that you actually wanted to go to another one. I found a Melbourne. Is Lincoln Airlines will often have one business clause seat to Columbia and then from there. You can connect onwards. They showing does fly to London. Although there is a long stopping Colombo twelve hours if he can straight through until Lincoln Otherwise as you can connect to Qatar Airways to Doha and then onto Europe or you can even fly on chill. Lincoln Airlines for Melbourne's Chinoy via Colombo and from Chennai to London he threw in with British Airways and they often again will be there'll be one business class available with pretty good connection surprisingly connections with that My Tinari say this few other options there. Although that's usually anyone seats if if there's more one of you Tough luck if you starting in Perth. Another option where there is Usually very good availability is from Perth to Alcoa lumper her with Malaysia. And from there you can pick up either British Airways to London or also Qatar to a number of different European cities cities. They have a really good network in Europe and so there are a lot of different cities. And you really. You may need to search lots of different cities to find some way with availability ability. But it's definitely worth the search because once again a wonderful business class product your once he gets. KUALA LUMPUR EVIL said go a row Jordanian they fly to Your Bank Hawk and Hong Kong as well as important To Amman Jordan and then from Jordan fly to I think it's about eighteen different destinations in Europe so and they pretty much always have to business class seats on that flight. yet runs from Bangkok to a mom but it originates three. I think three days a week in Kale and four days a week in Hong Kong. Something like this so often availability there ear as well and Bronwen a lot of people specifically would like to be able to redeem the Qantas planes to fly on Casa as Emirates out of Australia through Europe via or Dubai. Do you have any tips for people looking for those flights. I do Qataris particularly popular and very hard to get for that racin and particularly over the last twelve months we've noticed is becoming increasingly popular and more difficult to get and at the moment the best chances of funding business class abounded -bility are out of Adelaide or Perth particularly Atalay the evil. They are becoming more difficult to get. So you need to really be looking at the release date to be sure to get or not even to be sure that they have the best shot at getting business-class seats on cat. How racket strenuous and customer flies to Several camera see Melbourne Adelaide. Perth just cut our release seeps out of all of those cities or on a few other busy months we've found it very difficult sequel to say that they are releasing saints out of Sydney and Melbourne. or it could just bay that DIA being snapped up very quickly by people who aren't seeing them Rajat released on I have put. We sometimes see actually fifth class availability. So cal says clowns to Dohar and then you can sometimes Dansko on from Doha. Franken also infest class at. That's one to watch out for us. Well what about Emirates out of Australia. Marts was particularly difficult as recently as a few weeks. Back findings Seeing very little inlets. Business take out of Australia more recently. Even just in the last week started saying Colletti out of Melbourne. Out of Brisbane and out of Auckland New Zealand To to buy and then I'll chew they up large network of cities in Europe..

"Emissions are in the air to turn into air pollution more quickly. Klay and more completely so it's really a vicious circle so at the same time that he's critiquing us for the fact that our air is is not as good as we he wanted to be. He's also taking away our tormentor. Take away the biggest tool that we have which is our ability to sat more progressive standards standards for the new motor vehicles cars trucks buses etc in order to make sure that we don't do anything that might possibly restrict emissions of greenhouse gases so it's a honestly it's a ridiculous situation that the trump administration has now gotten itself into where in their great desire to deregulate and take away. California's authority at the same time they are eliminating leading the tool that has proven over the years to be the most effective one that we and all the other states that choose to use our standards have found in order to make our air healthier for our people Mary Nichols can you talk more about Minnesota and New Mexico becoming the latest states to embrace race both of California's strict rules on tailpipe emissions and zero emission vehicles why this is so important at this point when the trump administration is is taking on California and how this affects those states sure I I think that the sign that we're doing something something that makes sense not just for California but for people around the country is that governors in other states who don't want to necessarily even use the word California standards when they move in this area have recognized that we need to be all all moving in the direction of the cleanest most efficient vehicles that are out there the auto industry and MINNESOTA HAS some auto related industry but mostly there that is not there stuff their principal economy but they do have pockets of pollution and they they are troubled with you know wanting to be a part of the movement that's going on around the world in the direction of transportation which is cleaner and more efficient and they'd like to be a home for some of the advanced technologies that are now emerging. They've seen that new companies are actually rising up to produce some of the newer zero emission vehicles and I think they would like to like to to be a part of that and finally Michael Brune the effect of the climate activism that is we are seeing not only in the United States dates but all over the world. I mean just last week young people walking out of school throughout California around the country around the world millions and millions and millions of people marching to deal with the climate crisis. What do you think is going to be the the direction of climate activism. And where do you see this all coming to ahead with President trump true. I think the effects of the protests that we've seen in the marches has been profound. My children were marching on market street just last last week and what we're seeing as you mentioned is millions of people who are demanding strong action and what we are also seeing is that we're seeing heads of state here in California seven other states in the United States have committed to move to one hundred percent clean energy moving off off of all fossil fuels. We have seen more than one hundred mayors of cities across the United States beginning to make the same commitment to get off. All fossil fuels feels and move to one hundred percent clean renewable energy. We're seeing the largest companies in the country and around the world's companies like salesforce and Walgreens Ikea's I key starbucks and many others make the same commitment to get off of all fossil fuels and what we're starting to see is an increasing willingness by governors by state regulators people across all of civil society except the trump administration to actually face this crisis and realize that we not just have an obligation obligation. We don't just have an obligation to act but there's an opportunity to address some of the biggest challenges that we face in this country we can revive our economy. We can put millions millions of people to work in good high-quality well paying jobs we can cut air and water pollution all at the same time by Challenging Ellen ging our leaders to move off a fossil fuels and move towards clean energy. I think it's an inspiring time we're starting to see strong action almost everywhere except steps inside Washington. DC and accept this administration well Michael Brune.
