"On the debt free stage right here in the lobby. Real humans are here Jeff Darcy or with US along with their kiddos Logan and Ella Ella Hey guys. Hello. How're you doing? What are you guys live just south of Birmingham. We're in alabaster just south of town. Nice, okay! Cool welcome to Nashville. Up here couple of hours drive north to do your debt free scream. Here that's the rumor I love it. How much you paid off sixty nine thousand dollars in about seventeen months. Wow, and your range of income during that time one hundred and thirty thousand. Cool. What do y'all do for a living? Well work! I'm a salesman in the outdoor industry, I kind of have the cool job for as far as men are concerned, I sell hunting and fishing equipment worked for of big national and global brands. You probably recognize now John we're GonNa talk after then I'm. Thinking samples. Thinking Sam got him in my truck and. Brought Q. With me to. Darcy stays home with our help, raise our children and also teaches after school art classes. To both children and senior adults, what kind of debt was just sixty nine thousand? Well. It was a little bit of everything Kinda like allow your listeners. We did not have credit card debt oddly enough, but we had student loan. We had two cars, and we had a pile of medical debt that we had to work through. Just from not being educated on I mean we had insurance the entire time, but much like what I've heard you talk about in lessons, we. You know we just didn't know what we were doing there and so is a mixture, yeah? Well understand so What happened seventeen months ago? What was the wakeup? Call well Darcy had been there right. We took your class and failed at about ten years ago, so we're flunkies and we went through this, and I knew all the one liners I drive a lot a new the program and just never applied to my life whatsoever and. I guess about seventeen months ago in August. I was traveling east of Atlanta One night and She had already started in a little stewardship class at our previous church home in Birmingham and traveling in Georgia and got call at two in the morning. Calls to in the morning. So. Our two oldest kids aren't here today. We've sold them during a debt snowball. You took your advice. Held done, but my oldest son J. Two in the morning over there in Georgia and I answered. The phone can't believe I heard it, but I woke up and to the phone, and on the other end of the line was was Jacob. And you know when you can hear fear in your voice, right and answered the phone Jacob. Ed shared with me that his mom had taken her own life. That night at home. Oh, my and. That was probably. The probably the one thing that Kinda got going. See New air by lost money on this bit so, but that was probably what got US really motivated? What got me onboard and. Let me. Try Understand. There's your ex-wife. Yes, okay made when I was younger in college. Other kids okay I got, and anyway we We had divorced, and we had a son together, and she struggled for a long time and anyway. That was probably the one thing that's kind of sparked the fire under me and got me moving and got me on board where she already was, and we Kinda came together. which is you know is is paramount to this program. And at that point we came home and decided to get serious about it I'll sitting in the Carpool line one day to pick up elephant schooling on your program. You guys were giving away leadership materials on your program for one hundred people now happen to win. It never won anything on the radio life before, but one that. That and I thought if that didn't God telling me. It's time to get involved and get focused, so you're not only went from just listening doing you went ahead and just became a coordinator automatic coordinator soup. Absolutely, we've done multiple classes. We do all we do. Online events Wow, we do We're leading classes now. John Madden scully and San Antonio who you know John Mattie I sit in on their classes and vice versa. They sit on ours, and we've got to be getting to be friends through facebook and wow, so we're doing it man. Wow very cool and I plan on doing it for a long long time. You know we're not only plan on continuing to coordinate, but you don't know it yet, but I'm coming to work for you back. I'll take. We'll take the notice right now. Let my boss if he's listening not right now. Eventually, that's not why you're here today. But the. You know. I was speaking at a friend of mine's funeral. With another. Two two two of US guys were speaking that were. Years and He said something in that funeral. That I've never forgotten how many years ago he said. Death. And births when a baby is born, are a tuning fork. For Your Life. You suddenly go. And with her. your your ex-wife suicide. It just re. And you went. This is out of town and I got I gotta get lined up. You're absolutely right, and I want to be clear. It wasn't that was definitely. The one event I can point to, but I also knew in my own life had a great godly example. Just just ignored what I knew to be ripe for so long and I knew what was right, and that was just the one thing that that lit the fire, but there was more to it than that for sure I want to do it for these guys and additions say the problem with Jeff has he doesn't do anything halfway. So when he decided that this was going on, you're like I kinda wish I hadn't brought this. Right I mean. Are you thankful that you're GonNa? Finally do it but not. Yeah. He does he he takes it runs yeah. I came home from traveling. When we guitar with me, I play guitar every day. One of the few material possessions I really love in this world is my is my Taylor. Guitar and I was driving home got a call from the credit union about the brand new hollander that I deserved, and we weren't making the payments on, and I just was so infuriated. I was like why in the world are we behind? Which of course I call her, and like why are we behind? And she has I've been telling you were behind. You're just not listening and so I stopped, and I was going to sell guitar. To the guy that sold it to me to make that car payment, which is you know was like sticking my finger in a hole in the side of the.

"Shit, I should've started. He does have a big shock mouth around his right knee. Hunt. Teeth like literally every two that would be in a shark and then on his arm. Maybe you've seen his instagram. He has a Eagle's wing or something on his form. That looks pretty sick actually. Explain the story behind those the wing out. No, there's no story at all I just really like. That the It's so funny when someone you know has a like a feeling for their own to. Elliot's the type of guy that goes into Tattoo. Shopping goes. I'm going to get a tattoo today. And then he looks the book where there's like four pages. I ever got this one. Do Them. Great added seven of those today. This'll be easy. I did not do you don't go into like okay. How do you have I think five? How many of those did you go in with none of them? With ideas already in my head, yeah, all of them are really. He also has disciplined written on his arm, which is great when he's fucking past. No one told him now. No one's told them yet, but it's misspelled. At the getting! Yet where? I live? Well. Let's see it inside and Yeah Insulin. Does it say? It says Roman numerals eighteen. You had to anybody else. Roman numerals in their mouth Ella Ella literally has room, except Perella, why Daler, why do you? have. Roman, numerals in your mouth. Turned eighteen and I wanted to two, so she's got eighteen. From when I turned eighteen means eighteen, obviously I don't show you because. What is yours me? Well, how old are you? Forty eight. Twenty Four. Twenty three. Checking make sure you were you I don't know. What's your numeral mean? You're excited for twenty four hours seven. When you're that young. Knows my favorite number? And I was fucking hoping something grim I I was hoping it was. Just one of my parents passed away. In July. Seven I moved seventeen, I moved twenty seven. We'll see what happens. So things happen on seven. There's seven of us in this room right now. There's eight I tricked you. And I fucking loved, and then I have penis on the inside of my mouth Hook. Was that mean? Is that what you got your eighteenth birthday? Until we talk about, the spongebob is really fucking short. If you were to walk in here right now, he's genuinely you google it. He is the size of sponge. Kitchens Bench Chris Bunch. Imagine and you're like dude. You expect especially when you see squidward house and. Patrick's rock kind of. Locked in right now I'd be like whoa twenty twenty, fucking crazy. You think he'd knock. He probably wouldn't be. We wouldn't here. Just be a sponge. Yeah. Sounds like. Yesterday I was on a five hours. Zoom call. No, you weren't and you believe that with the. Fifty minutes I was on the zoom call with the entire cast of Spongebob. Everybody why so long from squidward? We were filming a show Oh so they nickelodeon asked me to host spongebob best moments, so it was me and the cast of justice, and they were recreating every iconic spongebob line. What's Patrick like the nicest? Yeah Spongebob and Patrick are the sweetest. Sandy's amazing screwed words, even amazing. You think he'd be an Asshole MR, Kraft's great a little cheap, but he is great but no like it was. It was just me on zoom call, and they were. They were going through all their lines. Was Fine Oh. My God has a dream come true and these lines they recorded. They recorded these twenty three years ago. Right and they're still all friends still making jokes. Still Patrick I want I. Don't know. Yeah, it was really funny. It's really crazy to see something that was created so long ago, but at such A. Such an important impact I mean Natalie was fucking bitching because I was like I had to record the zoom, and I put in the living room because I'm like the Living Room Looks Nice like as a nice backup. To go to your room to do it. And I was like because this is, this is a big deal like I'm doing a show for Nickelodeon. It's going to be on television like I. Want a nice background, so let's do in the living room. Yeah, but now none of us can go to. None of us can go to liberty for five hours. And I was like okay first of all. You can't go to the kitchen for five hours, so that's GonNa. Grab you snacks now, Natalie. And and so big box of snacks, so she's like super pissed. She doesn't understand she's like. Like if it wasn't for spongebob, none of US would be here I. Like. That was like my inspiration as a kid. So you show some respect. Yeah, and you let me put on a show in our living room for five hours. Was this your opening monologue? Yeah, this is how spongebob. And so they were reading the lines. They're going through scenes so they so they would play the animated version of the scene. Yeah, and then they would redoubled over live on Zoom Oh. Wow, it's reduced and for once. I got to be one of the fish you did. They gave you a hours. One of the fish that was like it was concerned town fish. And what are we going to do those my line that he said it? was like what are we going to do? that. By the time, we took Charlie to the emergency room. Probably me. took her to the emergency room she was. She screaming in pain? Rim Boston what album? She's gotta get her in. Their mother takes mass general. She's a flipping out with think like maybe. Her appendix is bursting or something really awful. We we get into the room. She sits on the doctor stable, and then she just farts. God! Brahma we went home. Really was she embarrassed now. Stale popcorn and like hot, and we're driving home from the movie and I. was sitting in their minivan, just lying on the floor screaming and my dad was like this is on okay to pull over my step. Mom had to come to the back and she was like. Oh my God. Are you okay and I couldn't stop screaming and crying, so he just took me straight. Straight to the hospital, and then like I just had to go to the bathroom when you got to the hospital..

"The law of unintended consequences says historian Nile Ferguson is the only real law of history and is true. I definitely intend to do many things, but there's no real way of knowing where this story's going. 'cause I'm Mike Feuer and this is the Jewish story. Episode Thirteen Israel among the nation's part one the Lavonia Fair. Now I had a life changing experience. When I was in college, I was stuck in the fourteen thousand foot peak with three fends for more than twenty two hours. You was intense incredible, but looking back and I've done it many times together with my friends and by myself I can identify a chain of bad decisions that led to something which could have been. been a real tragedy, not just nor deal, but the truth of matter is. We got up in the morning inside to go for it instead of getting out of camp in an hour late it never occurred to any of us where such a choice might lead, and the same can always be said of the events that lie ahead in the Jewish story. Story because we're on our way to the Sinai campaign, of Nineteen six going to take us another episode or two to get, there is my guess, it's an act of political buccaneering. If I could call this, which in many ways we'll set the stage for the even more dramatic, Six Day War of one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty seven, and since we basically. Basically live in a post. Sixty seven world here in Israel, I would be remiss as a storyteller and a student of history. If I didn't ask how on Earth did this all happen now I said this, not that because what I really want to know is about today. How did it come about that? Israel today is on one hand a regional power. Rooted in our local culture, able to project our might around the world and a thriving and dynamic society on the other hand, we are increasingly viewed as an interloper, a colonial transplant in the heart of the Middle East and not just by our Arab cousins around us, but even by many of our Jewish brothers and sisters back in the states, and frankly here in the country. So both storytellers and students of histories need to ask how things came out. I don't mean need to from a tactical sample. We have an inner need. That's what we tell stories while we learn history, but we need to be very careful once we've asked how things come about. In supposing that we can ever have a real answer because on one end when you look at history, there's no questions that the events make up the stories that we've been telling all along are the product of vast economic social cultural forces, but what bothers me is whether this means that the people in them who certainly believe the rational actors I mean I. Get up every day believing my choices, matter are no more than puppets. Are we just in the stream of world history as many historians by the way would have you think. But an epic force actually never did anything people do things, and therefore from the other perspective is that. Historic events are ultimately the product of human decisions. Yes, yes, shaped in constrained by the larger forces, therefore, it's worth mapping them out, but ultimately every decision is the product of the subjective elements in personality belief. Ideology Education Ego. And I! Frankly find the sort forces of history approach that social and economic historians tend to rely on downright disturbing I. Find it soothing, because it's disempowering and I find human decision making as the nexus of historical change frightening, because history is littered with the casualties of the law of unintended consequences and I've studied enough to know on some level. Yes, we are chips in the streams in March set. It correctly pointed out the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. You don't have to believe in his sort of a dialectic materialism. His point is most of the real clashes throughout time happen on a scale above the individual and yet yet as a Jew. I know the power of human, action. God wouldn't have offered us a relationship of commanded nece if our actions didn't matter and frankly sieges, tell us not only do they matter that each of us has the power to bring about redemption in our own measure. So with approach of the Sinai Campaign Fifty six, we're about to jump on the fast track toward creating the world like I said which we note today. At least as far as Israel is concerned you along I'll make the argument. It's actually the world that everybody knows so, and we also have to recognize that. Despite the fact that we live in a post sixty seven world, the Jewish world in particular is undergoing a rapid evolution right now like I said I want. Want to keep our eyes on how it came to be in particular on how history's most downtrodden people, the bears of the sacred flame of human sanctity in the face of endless human evil have come to be seen as ourselves evil impurity oppressors in our own land, and like I, said not just by our enemies, also by many of our brothers and sisters. Some of you listening now may have these thoughts. Hey, man I have my moments so in order to do. Do this. We're going to have to follow the big forces at play. We need to understand the American Soviet Cold War struggle for influence in the Middle East. We need to understand postcolonial politics as the empire which ruled the world only a few years ago in our story begin to crumble, and we need to also keep our eye on the rising global economic integration in the role that oil plays in that amongst many other factors, but remember as we're going forward the. The Cold War itself never made a decision. postcolonial politics idea not an actor in the events lie ahead in our story, it will always be human beings who bring either triumph or tragedy, even if they're only channels themselves for greater forces, it might just be that this is what our sages met with the explanation of the Human Element in the ultimate redemption. If you look at the end of the Chapter Sixty in Isaiah nine twenty two, he says Catania. Ella Ella. To Illinois at. With the smallest chubby become a clan, the least a mighty nation I'm more interested in the second half. Although there's what to say about that. I ne- Sham Ito A. He Shanna I. The Lord will speed it. In due time in the sages picked up on. What seems to be a strange contradiction is as well as we did it mean speed it in due time, either it comes into time or you speed it up, and so they say I will speed. Meaning if we merit God will cause redemption to come more quickly, but you know eat, it will come in its time if we don't merit, it s will happen according to plan meaning that the big picture of redemption is coming, no matter what there is an evolution of human consciousness in society which lies over the horizon, and we're headed there in God's sweet time, the real question is whether we will be able to bring to bear truth in consciousness on our decisions in order to help it.

"Welcome back to getting curious Jonathan. So if you're someone who's like new to investing Ella Ella vest is there for you. which is what's your? What is your advice to young investors like moving forward start early? Start early You know my kids are just beginning. Just getting into the workforce and you know the the advice we give is is what you WANNA shoot for is is of your take home pay fifty thirty twenty okay all right. What does that mean? Fifty percent of your take home pay goes to your needs. You gotta pay the ranch. She gotTA Commute to work. You gotta buy the first suit. A thirty percent is fine because Jonathan. Who knows you know? You GotTa have fun like life is for living twenty percent goes to Future U. I named my future me. Her name is asked her. She's a very old lady. And I gotTa Pay Esther And that twenty percent and you know it goes to my 401k or my investment account or my savings are paying down credit card debt or paying down really high interest rate loans And so that's that part that can compound and grow for you You know some of your listeners. Saying I can't do that. I just can't do that We'll try one percent percents future you. Let's go for two percent just begin to do it. Slowly on the other thing I would tell folks so bef- you know as you think about fifty thirty twenty on is you're starting starting out on life the order in which you WanNa do things once you graduate from college and Begin. adulting Is pay down that high interest rate. Debt your credit card debt you want. You GotTa get rid of that stuff and I know too. Many people have money in the bank and then credit card debt is like take that money in the bank can pay off the credit card debt. The interest rates are high. It's very expensive a number two do if your company offers a 401k program. I know it seems boring. I've got it but start putting a little bit of money in their particularly if there's a match because that's free money right in that begins to work for you on a tax advantage basis. The third thing you want to do is an emergency fund right three months when you're young one month to month three months up to six months when you're more mature of take home pay in case of emergency and then you want to begin to invest so it's not complicated Is just remembering these sort of set set of rules to help you get started

You're gonNA like this now. I'M GONNA ask people not to judge judge because it's actually quite a lovely story. <hes> <hes> the new parents Ella Corinna and Andy Saputra of Bakassi West Java have named their son Google Actually Google G. O. G. L. E. now floaty. WanNa guess who's of the male or the female parent which one had this great idea well according to this article Andy Handy. The father is the one who had this idea because Ella was initially against it yeah again that that seems like the way that would play out. That seems like a dude would come up with this idea. I'm not saying it's a stupid idea. I'm saying that it's a sufficiently out their idea that it would be from the sort of hormonal testosterone exuberance that I have come to associate with male behavior using myself as a prime example of that sort of thing in my life is littered littered with the rusted out hulks like ships on the seashore of ideas that seem like like awesome creative clever ideas at the time but later on proved to cause me more trouble than they were worth <hes> Ella Ella as a matter of fact for the first couple of months referring to the baby as baby boy as opposed to is his actual legal google but she served came around and again if I was certainly Kinda judgy when I first I heard about this until I read this article in Jakarta's Jakarta newspaper say she says quote at first. I did not want to do not want this. I was using Google translate on this so I'm going to translate translate this from from Google English into actual English as I go sorry about that at first I didn't want that name to be Google but then his father told me more S- more about the name that he had good intentions <hes> let Google will be a leader who can be useful for many people just as Google is use google as a search engine as for Ela. The name is a prayer. She and her husband hoped the second child can be like a Google search engine that knows does everything and is useful to many people. I hope my son can be quote. I hope my son can be a leader who can lead people so that he can be useful for many people which is which is really quite sweet and it's really really sweet. I can't even like that's exactly people should name their children like that. In my yeah I mean it's I I will say that as a this is not necessarily a positive or negative thing but if someone were to google his name in adulthood <hes> for jobs obstacle again that could be feedback loop on the other hand. What do you need to know about an applicant for a job or you're a college or school than his name is Google? We are bringing his but in for an interview at the very least because he's got some. I'm great stories and he's probably got some interesting parents to like like when you find when you when you find out that the name of that actor who played Dwight on the office that Oh his first name is rain he must have some interesting parents probably ably very cool parents because that is a very lateral sort of name to give the Kardashians named their kids rain okay well. Sometimes it's sickening but still again I should sometimes sometimes I tell myself. I shouldn't judge such as I tell myself. It's I can't help judging but I shouldn't share that judgment to people because it's of no use to anybody. It's no. We're not judging this. This is actually incredibly sweet. Okay this. This is actually quite sweet again. It is it. Is that thing like Oh my God. "Used a lot with like skin cleansers where you wash your face has its little beating in it. Well, those plastics are really bad for the environment that go into the water supply system fish have been eating them. And we know that because when fish are caught and they get cut open. You could see all the plastics. They've ingested it's a big problem. And at least an I have been following this idea of like how fashion and beauty intersects with plastic because it's a big concern of ours. Europe estimates that between seventy thousand and two hundred thousand tonnes of micro-plastics enter into the environment. Every year their concern really isn't about the beauty industry in particular. They're more concerned what's going on with agriculture and fertilizers at that's how they say. A so much of that is entering into the water stream, but this will affect the beauty industry as well. This proposal is part of a larger plastics strategy for the EU curious about that one. Good to hear good to see in other retail news everybody and their momma is violent chapter eleven. Oh my gosh. It's the beginning of the year. And everybody is starting off twenty nineteen by decided, hey, why don't we filed for chapter eleven here are some examples. Shopco it's a chain in the mid west. It's kind of like a WalMart. It's kind of like WalMart adjacent. I would say they have about three hundred fifty stores they filed for chapter eleven this past week. I've been following the story for a while. And ooh, they. Oh, a lot of money specifically to a pharmaceutical company does sixty seven million dollars that they decided not to pay and you can't really do that. So filed for chapter eleven they are going to keep some of their stores open another place that filed for chapter eleven Gymboree that kids clothes place. Oh, yeah. Chapter eleven except is the second time in two years, they filed for chapter eleven and when that happens when you file for chapter eleven twice many times, it's referred as chapter twenty two which is kind of a cheeky way to refer to it. But two times two years and pay less. Okay. They haven't filed for chapter eleven yet. But I think they're right on the brink. I think in the next few weeks, we're going to hear some news about what's going on with them financially, and is not gonna be good. I know they just had that huge spoof that they did over the holidays where they opened up the. The pretend luxury store and fold bunch of influencers to pretend that their shoes were high design. Hi fashion turns out they were paid less. Yeah. It was a great prank. But turns out they should properly be like minded their stores trying to keep them open that should be their main concern. So we're going to see what happens with that one guys. I can't believe it. That's the end of my news. That's like four different new stories usually take me like forty five minutes to get through that with Lisa because her just bullshitting. But when I'm by myself as just a monologue goes a lot faster. I will tell you my one good thing this week. My one good thing is it's birthday week. We're celebrating birthdays around here in Avin's was on the seventeenth mine is on the nineteenth of January. It's so much fun. Having a partner where your birthdays are back to back when we were just friends back before like, I knew that he was the love of my life. We had our birthday parties. Together this year. One of the things we did to celebrate with we went and saw some comedy. It was so much fun. We saw Esther permit ski she sometimes called little Esther. You may know her she's a comedian. And she's been on a show that she co created called alone together shoes on crazy ex girlfriend as a recurring character. And she's also a podcast her. She co host the podcast glowing up, which is just a really, cool and sweet beauty podcast. And we saw our last night. She was so funny just a delight. So we did that and doing some fun brunch things. And it goes see some movies going to take some time to relax. So you guys another year older? It's exciting. I could tell you it only gets better and better because you stop giving a shit. What people think so you can.

"Customers open credit card. I'm curious about it. I used to work at a store where it wasn't really a quota. But something about our bonus structure was tied into credit cards being opened and that was a long time ago for me. But I'm curious if you have experienced that yourself or on the other end of it if you opened up a department store credit card and regret it or had a great experience. I kind of want to hear about it. You can Email us at just pop fashion at gmaiLcom for that. Because I want to do some investigating. Next door. This one's a good. One riana is going to launch a line with LVMH riana is going to have a fashion house with LVMH. So it hasn't been confirmed. But w w d is reporting that they are in discussions to launch a luxury fashion house, if it goes through it would be the first fashion house LVMH has launched from scratch since nineteen eighty seven, and that's because riana has been killing the game. And they want to bring her in under their umbrella. Ella ella? It's being reported that some employees from Louis Vuitton and selene are collaborating with riana on the project. It's understood that the project will span ready to wear leather, goods and accessories. Sources inside LVMH say that she is being very hands on with product development. It was reported that she star. Assembling fashion team about six months ago in Paris. So this is not a new reveal they've been working on it behind the scenes for a little while. I'm here for it. In somewhat related news question. Mark riana has also been in the news lately for suing her dad for the use of the Finci name, according to a lawsuit. Her father attempted to negotiate a tour deal for riana for more than fifteen million. Even though he has no connection to her business. Now, this story isn't directly connected to her opening up her own fashion house, but I'm kind of wondering if she's out there trying to get ownership completely of her name before this thing's launches that's just my own little like curiosity about it. It doesn't mean it's true. But I do wonder and I am here for anything Finci related. I can't wait for this to happen. Let's see some Riyadh doors all over the place. Bring it in other news Calvin Klein is closing their flagship store. Clutch, my perils. Ooh. So the last time we talked about Calvin Klein, it was to talk about how raff Simmons left, which we knew was coming at some point. We thought that it was about to happen. But it's still kind of sad. And then and thin days later came out that they're closing their flagship. They also will be letting go one hundred employees is this is an an attempt to streamline their business. They're kind of getting their ducks in a row because they want to move forward and another direction we don't know what that direction is yet. But we know that what happened under rafts Simmons. They lost the money. So they're having to reorganize I'm curious how this is going to work out. I'm also very interested that so many flagship stores are closing in New York City. What is going on? Nobody can afford that rent. Like, we know that as individuals people can't afford that. Right. Right. But even stores are like we are not doing this anymore. I read that their flag. Ship was eighteen thousand square feet, and they were paying over eight hundred dollars per square foot. I don't know what that math is. I'm sure I could get out a calculator and do it. But that's just not going to happen right now, all I know is as Tono money, and I just wonder if people are going in different directions with their strategy on how to further their brands and flagship stores just isn't where it's at right now, we know that brands still want to be in stores, but maybe the concept of the flagship is just done. I don't know. What are your thoughts on that? Let me know next story. The EU is proposing a ban on micro-plastics a love this. The e u chemical agency you proposed a ban on deliberately adding micro-plastics to products, including cosmetics, detergents and agricultural fertilizers by twenty twenty to combat pollution for..

"Here's why they paid out an eleven billion dollar settlement to the consumer financial protection bureau after an investigation into their credit card practices as it turns out. They were signing customers up for store credit cards without their knowledge or consent. They were also enrolling customers into a credit insurance program without their knowledge. The company required employee's to have a store credit card enrollment quota, and they base performance reviews and compensation on how many credit cards, those employees could open sometimes customers would sign up for a rewards program. But instead we get signed up for a credit card under their own name signet amid no wrongdoing for this. They said they chose to. Subtle because they didn't want to drag things out in court. They were like we didn't do anything wrong. But just so this thing is over. We're going to go ahead and pay the settlement. Most of the money went to that consumer financial protection bureau. I suspect that there's going to be a class action lawsuit after this because it's not like any of that eleven million dollars goes back to people who were affected. No, the people's whose credit lines may have been impacted. They're not seeing any of that money. So I'm hoping this is followed up with a class action lawsuit. So people can get what they're do. This is sketchy stuff. Now, I do have a question of our audience. I'm doing some thinking about department store credit cards, and I want to hear your stories. Yes. I'm kind of mining our podcast and our listenership for some information. But stick with me, I'm curious if you worked for a store, and they required some kind of quota to fill for you to have.

"But if you search for H M lunar new year collection twenty nineteen there are some great Asian websites who roundups of some of the looks in. It's really a a really nice collection. I think I haven't seen it in person, obviously. But online. Looks pretty great. So thank you Phoebe for sending that in. Meanwhile, people are pissed at Burberry for its first lunar new year campaign on January third bribery unveiled a global photography campaign meant to celebrate the upcoming Chinese lunar new year, which takes place on February fifth. I let me tell you what they look like this is a set of portrait's on a background a bunch of people kind of like standing around. No one is smiling. They're dressed in Burberry. You know, they look very well quaffed very put together, very Burberry. Not too much red little hints, you know in the in the standard pattern. But you know, nobody looks really happy, right? Like, the lunar new year is the biggest holiday in a lot of Asia. So it's a pretty big deal. I don't know why you have to look so grim. So here is what a lot of people have been saying on Chinese micro blogging sites. Here are just some some choice words. This is a group of people who plan to kill this alter rich, grandma and keenly fight over her inheritance. Another one says unhappy family unhappy Burberry, no one is looking normal. A lot of people are wondering if the images are a depressing comment on the nation's economy, which has slowed as we've noted in recent episodes of this show, or is it cultural appropriation one commenter said first blunt Siaga thank dole chango Bonna, and now Burberry Chinese lunar new year is a period of time for family, reunion, joy and lack in these people like actors of horror movies sorry. No luck. The company has two hundred stores in the Asia Pacific region and its revenue in that same region was up five percent in two thousand eighteen financially year. So they're doing pretty well a press release from Burberry said it's fired by classic portraiture the camp. Pain is reimagined in informal urban environment. Juxtaposing the old and the new the traditional and the contemporary a statement says nothing about horror movies, but you know, your mileage may vary. So if you've seen them, let us know what you think right in maybe car will have a common in the second half. Maybe she won't even listen to this tool. Dislike slap it in on top of hers, and then like just publish, and then who knows who knows all I'm saying is this week's a wildcard I have one more short news item to share in. "A colleague tweeted a photo of a line of twenty cars in the donation line at goodwill on South Dakota avenue in Washington. And that kind of line for dropping off donations is very common at the end of the year. Because it's usually the last chance to donate goods and get a receipt to be able to write that Duchesne off your taxes, but such a clean out in the first few weeks of the year is pretty interesting so Brendan Hurley the head of communications at Google of greater Washington. And a former supervisor of mine Hello, Brendan said that there's no way of knowing how much of this is directly related to Murray condos show people donate for various reasons of various times a year, you know, after Christmas people often unload old items or presence that they no longer want. Maybe they have occasion time to. Tackle some organization projects the Washington Post also talked to current boutique it's a chain of consignment stores in the DC area has four locations and in the last week of twenty eighteen one of its locations said it filled six industrial size mesh bags of consigned closing in accessories. But in the first week of January, they double that the manager of the Logan circle location said I think it's a combination of the show and the government shutdown, and that's just one city if you could go any city name, plus Marie condo. You'll probably find a similar article to this one from the Washington Post about what they're calling the Marie Kondo effect. So who's gonna buy it? My favorite response to the Kondo effect is from Kelly Faircloth at Jacksonville who brings us this headline, and I quote, I can't wait to buy. Everyone's Marie conduct crap. She writes now, I'm not trying to clutter my own home here. I swear I full. Intend to act with the utmost restraint. It's just the best possible time to go rambling through brick and mortar thrift shops in antique, malls and Facebook, marketplace and Craigslist with my running mental list of nice to have she goes on to say, unfortunately, I will have plenty of competition because I am certainly not the only raptor circling. What do you think are you getting in on the Marie condo affects are cleaning out where you going shopping? Let us now send us a letter. You know, where this next story was inspired by a listener letter. So I'm gonna start with that one. It's from Phoebe Phoebe Roden sharing a link to agent, and she wrote I found this collection from ATM interesting and noteworthy it's a collection for the lunar new year, featuring Chinese actors, what's especially me about it is almost all the products are not only and the model in almost all the product detail pages is Asian ancient. I'm definitely put thought into this collection as a whole from designed to how it's marched on the website as a petite woman. I appreciate it. When brands include petite sizes in their size inclusively strategy like plus size patterns can't just be altered from the straight sideline line to fit properly. I've never seen a mainstream brand make an entire collection in petite only and be so thoughtful that the products will fit the target customer. In this case women of Asian descent. She also says thank you for your awesome show. You're welcome Phoebe. So I looked into this. And this is not the first time that h name has a special collection for the lunar new year at this year. It is a couple of actors from China who are in this campaign four H M. There are a ton of red items in the collection for both men and women because red is said to bring prosperity in the new year H M has about five hundred stores in China. So it's worth the push for the biggest holiday of the year. Now this collection is hard to find. If you're a based in the US near looking through the ATM website from your US based browser..

I am going to share some news items. Kearns gonna share some stuff. We will not be doing listener letters this week for the most part because that's more fun to do when we're back together. So if you wrote to us lately, do not despair, we may still read your letter on the show. And without why don't I just think about some fashion news and stuff I really need to talk about New Year's resolutions. Specifically, the one involving Netflix and Marie condo. And all of you. Crazy people have you seen this new Netflix show tidying up with Marie condo. It dropped on New Year's day a reality show where the decluttering guru fixes people's clutter. Invest their lives, and it feels a little late for me considering her buck the life changing magic of tidying up came out in the US in twenty fourteen but people are losing their minds over it all over again Rekondo is thirty four she started as an organizing consultant while she was university. "Full on trailer because we got a teaser for this back a couple of months ago. I want to say when we first talked about this by the trailer for God's king of the monsters now when Mel I came over right before we started recording. We sat down and watched the trailer for the twenty fourteen Godzilla feature in Bryan Cranston supposed sharing supposedly. And I was telling her about how hype die was when that movie was coming out. And I was like, oh, this is going to be fucking epic in Heisenberg is going to punch God's into phase. And this is going to be like the greatest movie that's ever been made. That was not the case this time though, I have tempered my expectations. But but. I am kind of excited still. Yeah. I can kind of see that. And you face. This is what I wanted from the first movie was like, a kaija you fight like, you know, what I want and that first God's movie did not give it to me. Like they from the fights. They kept switching back to other characters and showing the fights on TV's in the background that damn fucking stupid paradox movie. Oh cloverfield. It was it was just it was the movie in a nutshell is just frustrating because there is good shit in it. But they jump around so much that you never get to focus on Godzilla and the fights which is what you're there for. But this this trailer kind of sold me, and I'm like, you know, what I am excited for this. Because it seems like he has enough nece-. I think we did is before how do you say, plural? Nemesis is an Emma side. Exactly. You know that half our listeners are probably too young to understand. No. Because they'll think is there riana song. Yeah. She did remaking popular Ella. Ella? Ella Ella? sit nods sound, right. Why don't you smoke in over there? Ben. No never knew tele- tele-. Yeah. Yeah. But so we got Ken Ken Watanabe. He's back. I think he's the only returning character. I didn't see anybody else that looked for millier. Luckily, Aaron Taylor Johnson will not be making reappearance in this one. Nor is Elizabeth Olsen. Fortunately, I do like her. But. Yeah. But no, Ken Watanabe in this movie as in if feels like everything he's in is his only jobs is just say something ominous. You know, it's like. They have the scene in a trailer where I guess we're talking to like the I don't know the UN or congress or some such shit, and you know, and she's like, oh, so you want to make Godzilla or pet and they all laugh and shit. And then Kim Wantanabe is like no, we would be his. That's all he does in the first movie. All he says, let them fight like that. That's all he's there for so whatever. Kinsley like, I don't give a paycheck. He's like what the fuck. Did. You do today. I wasn't a major motion picture blockbuster made one hundred thousand dollars, right? What did you say that line for like ten seconds? So fuck you. Okay. So I do want to ask you guys. Is it just me? Or does it seem like are we worried that they might be blowing their load by having him face? So many of his nemesis in this movie. You know, they might be because it looks like there's mothra. Yeah. King Gita and possibly one other one. And I'm not sure about the fact that. Like Rodin or destroy. Yes. Yes. Yes. Rodin? So I'm just like. That's three of his most iconic. Foz, and they're all going to be in this one movie. So I'm just like, you know, is are we blowing are low is they're going to be Godzilla three..
