"So both of them outside the top 200, so also both of the two lowest ranked finalists, I think since like four years ago as well. So I think ultimately, pogos unforced errors did her in. Aside from that, it was relatively, yeah, like you said, not the greatest quality, but Maria was the better player on the day just a bit unruly. But yeah, it's obviously nice when you get these kind of heroic stories qualifies coming through not Maria Camila sorio Serrano. She could only get to the semifinals in her in her home event, Joel. Well, we did have a hometown champion where a home country champion even so in the ATP Houston event, the two 50 out on the hard true red clay. I don't know what that means, but it looked elected distinct a distinct color that was different from what you typically expected the European glaciers. But yeah, we had the final of the bots Kim, battle of the bots, Riley up elka, John Isner and Riley Parker winning 6 three 7 6. I mean, I'm just surprised there was only one tie break. I thought it was just gonna be two tie breaks or maybe even three tide bakes, but no, Riley pelka came through and yet fourth ATP tour trophy, his first enclave and is a little stat for you. This was the tallest ATP tour final in the open era surprise surprise. A perk is 6 foot 11, John is the 6 foot ten. I mean, this was a, I mean, this was just quite funny. I just thought the fact that these two guys who I just feel like we are just associate them with banging downloads of serves on a grass court, going on to reach clay final and yeah, coming through. Just watching it, it genuinely sometimes feels like John Isner is playing a version of himself from 5 years ago or a slightly sort of quicker, faster version of himself and just ultimately think he just had a perk had just had the slight edge on Isner in all of the departments really and that's what and that's what led him to the title. Yeah, kind of serves is the right in a way, doesn't it? He's coming up with someone who does what he does, you know, just a little bit better. I was a bit younger sort of new version of self. And I mean, I am pleased that we only got one tie break in this final because I was like you fully expecting three, but actually we had 13 break points in this match. And 5 mini breaks in the second set tie break. So I think it does go to show that, well, maybe they are capable of returning well at some point until but yeah, it was perhaps a better final than many would have envisaged when we got this match up. On the ATP tour. Yeah, I mean, Kim, a perker had won their last four meetings. And their last 12 sets had been a 7 6 score line. So yeah, it was a little bit surprising to see, oh my God. 6 three first set. What's going on here? The world has changed. But yeah, nice, nice win for a pelka. I mean, his second serve in particular was absolutely massive throughout the week. It really must be one of the highest kicks as I feel I've ever seen on TV. To the point I would love to see him almost. I almost wish he had face like someone like a Diego Schwartzman. On the court, just to see how high that serve could get on him because it was just unbelievable at times. It was almost reaching, it was just going as high as where the crowd were watching from behind the court. But yeah, but yeah, you know, again, very, very good, very, very good, very, very good title win for him. I feel like the X axis that he does have over John is his movement around the court. I think we talk about that all the time, but whether you're bringing him into a net, putting him from side to side, he seems to be able to just get there with relative ease for a guy who is a guy who is so taller at 6 foot 11 and I think that really kind of helps him get set and choose the choose what he wants to do with next on the court. And he was looking very, very good throughout the week. He did also have to overcome Nick curios in the semifinals. Kim, I know you love talking about Nick curios on the pod and we're going to have to do it the same again because radio palka came through against curios 6 three 7 5 but there was a flash moment in the match 5 all second set. It was very tight and curios again got angry at an umpire. He thought a ball was out and there was no call and he was expecting an out call from the umpire and it essentially led to him losing his call and then ultimately getting a game penalty or sorry, a point penalty that lost him the game and that was essentially game set match a pelka. So yeah, more sort of Nick curios sort of doing well, getting to a semifinal on the clay court, which hasn't happened in years. But at the same time, being the old Nick curios that we know. And yeah, sort of mini implosion handing it to a poker feeling like maybe he's like searching for a way out because you feel like defeat was on the horizon. Yeah, I do to some extent I have a little bit of sympathy with Nick kyrgios here. What? Him? I know. Oh, am I saying? Because his issue here was that he really did think that that ball from a pelican was out and you know, you can't there's no Hawkeye on this obviously on the clay..

"Comedians including Betty White as the elka a straw ski with a good fun show And we were talking a bit about the fact that today would have been this past day would have been her 100th birthday and they have a documentary that has been shown in theaters across the country Betty White celebration and there are other things out there Google and other places you can find a lot of mention of Betty Robert and the Charleston South Carolina had been talking a bit about his love of animals so please proceed Robert Any help Jim slowing down that this team was out of range he knew she couldn't catch that bird anymore And she just had taken her cub from those who just didn't do it And he put the camera we gave a clear shot for her face And it was just a stone cold sober face that she had And that must be a horrible feeling for a mother to lose their childhood Absolutely Absolutely be Robert And I think you would have had a lot in common with Betty White After a while of talking to celebrities that I've had the privilege of being able to do so for a number of times over a number of years and you begin to get a feel for those who are just to huckstering something and those who in fact are deeply committed to what it is that they're talking about and Betty White was deeply committed to helping animals She just well just a genuinely decent human being by the way and it was something that I think over time she developed a great love Her interest in wildlife actually was sparked by family vacations to the Sierra Nevada mountains in California She initially had aspired to a career as a forest ranger Betty White had but at the time women were not allowed to be forest ragers So she switched to first writing and wound up writing and playing the lead and I graduation play at her high school and then discovered that performing appealed or even more than writing But for the previous caller talking about the Betty White show that aired first from 1952 to 1954 started out on KLA C which is a local television station or was in Los Angeles and then it went on to NBC which is where our color picked that up But yeah right off the bat early on you could see This is a very sincere person and not a phony And I'll be the first to tell you that frankly you run across a few people who well there's no other way to put it There are a few celebrities out there who may be phony is too harsh a word but let's just simply say that they are not what they purport to be okay Betty White I'm pretty sure it's absolutely what she purported to be throughout her life A very funny spontaneously funny person the one who loved animals a great deal And those are what she's known for And justifiably so Al calls in from Las Vegas Hello Al Hey Jim thank you for taking my call You know I'm Latino conservative as you know a lot of conservatives Latinos are conservatives They're finally waking up But I wanted to tell you that Betty White had cross cultural appeal You know even George Lopez who I kind of don't like he's Latino but he's like right wing I mean he's left wing He even gave her some compliments And everybody in our family liked her And she was just generally cross cross culturally very very likeable person Yes She genuinely was a very likeable person and an individual who well again like I said I think the public even though they don't get a chance to sit down maybe in studio and talk with people they get a chance to they can watch someone and over a period of time if you watch someone long enough and listen to them long enough you realize that in fact they are or they are not genuine So I'm glad to hear that about what you said about George Lopez Yeah Again I think Betty White was the real deal I really do And I thank you for sharing that thought tonight By the way Betty White in the show the Betty White show that back in the 50s and mind you this was 1952 to 1954 She had an African American performer on the show a tap dancer Arthur Duncan as a regular cast member She had a lot of criticism and she said live with it And she wound up giving the black performer more airtime and so he never forgot that and neither I'm sure a lot of other people So like I said a genuine Sincere individual Betty White That does apply to every celebrity A Gary in the viola Delaware good evening Gary It ended Jim I'm remembering Betty White as a class act as a golden girl she was 14 karat My opinion My first memories of Betty White was as I was watching the black and white television game show called password.

Wow i've i sat there and i watched it because i i saw the video. I i didn't see it live. But i had heard about it and i said i gotta go watch this. I i'm thinking how the heck did the cat get where it was. I don't know and it was under the tarp on the second level. You've been running under i. I don't know how did it get to where it and it's hanging in you watch it and i'm thinking in you know it's just one claw now it's not buying. I'm like oh this poor cats going gonna plummet to its death. You hear the moment when it goes down to the one claw all old stadium. Stop to watch what was going on here. That's when it went to one claw and that's when they caught it. Wow but the people that caught it. The guy works for the university. He and his wife have season tickets. And then every game they bring an american flag. I love that. Thank god because they used they. They were underneath the cat and they opened up the american flag. Elka an emergency blanket to catch it and sure enough at worked out at broke the cat's fall and then cat lady did safely. And then the the the ultimate closing moment to make it the perfect story. They saved the cat's life. Turns right around and it's punches. The guy right in the head Did you see grabbed him in the chest and the guy's like oh you see his eyes to bulge out of his head like get this damn thing off or they catch it. He holds it like simba. Crowd place went to catch maxim tries. A clause is out and then the cat form. Put the poor thing. Can you imagine how scared that poor cat

"States would not get access spotify for a few years. The us finally got spotify in july. Two thousand eleven so we had been hearing about it for in nearly three years by the time we finally got access to it. The company mostly operated at a loss except for the occasional profitable quarter over the years in two thousand twenty music business world reported that spotify losses over its decade of existence at that point amounted to about two point. Eight billion dollars. The company has spent a great deal of money on scaling and on purchasing content including landing exclusive deals with some podcasters People interested in those shows can only get them through spotify. It's kind of the opposite How we do things. So for example The video game discussion show the besties which by the way. It's not one of our shows. I genuinely really love the best ds. So shout out to those guys. They do a great show about video games anyway. For about for year the best is was a spotify exclusive And that agreement eventually expired but for a year in order to get new episodes. You needed a spotify account and those episodes are now available on other platforms because that exclusivity deal expired. Spotify did not renew it So it's a different story now but at a time you could only get them through spotify there are some that are spotify exclusives and they are pay for Podcast you have to pay a subscription fee in order to get them I don't know the success rate of that because in my experience the paid for model is one. That's really shaky for podcasts. I'm curious i'll have to look into that. Maybe i'll do an episode about it anyway. Spotify spent more than half a billion dollars acquiring podcast related companies like anchor themm gimblett media park cast and more elka said that the company is still focused largely on growth and will switch to a profit base strategy at some point presumably when the company has grown enough. And this gets back to that thing. I was saying earlier that sometimes concentrating on growth is the most important strategy. Because if you try and monetize too early not only will you not make enough money to cover costs but you might inhibit the growth of your company and in two thousand twenty one. The company posted a profitable first quarter now. According to spotify posted a fourteen million euro profit for quarter one of two thousand twenty one. That's about sixteen point six million dollars. Us and recently the company posted a twelve million euro operating profit for the second quarter. That's about fourteen point two five million dollars. Us so at the rest of the year follows. Spotify could actually see its first annual profit by the end of twenty twenty one though. Of course it still has a mountain of debt that it has to address. It's not like it's completely out of the woods but it could be turned a very important corner by the end of this year and next. I think we're gonna talk about a company that posted its first annual profit in twenty twenty but only if you put a big little asterisk next to that and this company is tesla now the co founders of tesla and yes elon. Musk is one of them. Launched the company in two thousand and three and a startup. Automobile company is obviously a huge undertaking..

"What i wanted to do is just kind of outline. What thinker five key reasons that summer scouting can really pay those huge dividends when it comes time hunting season now. Of course if you're talking about maybe got an early archery tag summer. Scouting is the most accurate scouting to what you're going to see when that season rolls around but it's not necessarily the only time that the scouting payoff what i mean by that is. There's been many times. I've had an elk tag that say A november tag. I'll get out in the season. I'll find group of bulls and then later on in the year. I will use that knowledge of what i've found to be successful later on is also really good for understanding if you've got a limited entry tag you're saying like i don't know what type of deer what type of elk what type of antelope what type of sheep. Whatever i should be like. If i see it should i shoot it but some are scouting is a great way to understand the breadth of. What's in the area. You're hunting so let's talk about the things that make summer scouting so beneficial and the i actually quite a few. These goes off of this idea. Of how many articles on this. But i call it the velvet advantage and this is because as dear growing their antlers. Elka growing these hours. This is particularly pertains. The elk deer or anything. The grows antlers. There's there's certain aspects of them having that velvet in them needing energy to grow that velvet that can be exploited that lends them to being more susceptible to being spotted. So the i. I like to call the bachelor party and what that is early in the season. It doesn't actually have to do with the velvet but it has to do with the way that Herds of animals kind of congregate during different times of year so mule deer. Whitetail deer elk Even even i've seen moose even do this. It's pretty rare for miss their little more solitary. But what happens is the bucks or bulls separate off from the cows or does and they bachelor up. They do this early in the season and then they also do this again in the winter after the rut. So they're all friends they're all hanging out there all in safety by numbers mentality and they're grouped up in groups of bucks. How this helps. The hunter is it. Makes it a lot easier to understand what type of bucks or in an area. Because they're together. It also gives you a good barometer of being able to compare bucks together now. The first idea is what. I like to call the birds of feather so you heard that saying birds a feather flock together. I always think of that. When i'm out looking at bachelor groups of bucks. Because i always think i have that like saying in my mind because what you'll notice is a lotta times age. Classes of bucks will start to flock together. You might be in an area and you're like glasses you're turning up batchelor group buck bachelor group of bucking. You'll notice that they're like little to two by twos to threes two to three year old bucks and there might be one big buck in there. Whatever but for the most part. It's like these younger dear vault grouped up and you're like okay. I see this group of deer and okay. You're seeing lots of deer. You might be seeing these different groups of bachelor bucks but then it's like you find this one group of box and they're all mature box six to eight old heavy antlers. You're like wow okay. That's different than these other ones. You're seeing but what that is is it shows you the pockets of better age class and this is easier to find during the summer because one the the deer grouped up in it. Kind of gives you this idea of. Where do those mature deer like to live. There's a reason that those mature deer in certain area and it's because they've lived long enough they know places where they're safe and they're kind of grouped together in this because they're kind of like they've all got the same mentality they've survived. They've seen it all and they're starting to group up based on dear the very compatible them now. There is always like the caveat to that is sometimes. You'll see a big buck in with a bunch of smaller deer rounded or whatever. There's sometimes like i've noticed. After i've spent way too much time watching meal there even during the hunting season one day at a guy like literally just spent thirty days one year out there watching meal. They're not shooting anything. Just seeing what these deer do. And what i learned was like they have certain groups that they like in the fine like certain dear will stick together and then there's like ones that rove and move but oh like overwhelming fear to graph it out statistically certain age class dear tend to hang with certain age class deer and that's really helped me narrow down areas to focus on any time of the season. Because you can kind of discount is the miss this is. If you're looking for a certain type bacher more mature dear. You can start to discount what you might think of as a nursery those areas like especially. If it's an early season is like. I'm seeing so many deer here but they're all just like this young deer. They're all two year old year there. Whatever so that's like a nursery now. It's great if you're just looking for a successor. Maybe that's what you're looking for doesn't that's cool. Then you found what you're looking for but if you've got the time you've got the time in the summer these year going to be out there going to be more active. They're going to be grouped together. You can start looking for this pocket holding those better age class dear because what that's going to tell you. Is there something about this area. There provides enough safety to allow these in enough like the right food. The right amount of safety to allow these dear to get to a certain age. And there's something in this area. Where they're at that they tend to congregate toward during the season. You can focus your attention toward those areas because you know that they're gonna probably hold those better age class dear so the next next one number two. The one thing that some are scouring does because as that velvet this kind of goes back to that velvet advantage and what it is as those dear growing their antlers elk or deer. they're expending so much energy in in order for a buck or bulls to grow antlers. It's pretty much like a cow or go growing on like it takes that same amount of food takes same out so they're going to be feeding a lot and what that means is they're going to be outwear. The food is and allows you to concentrate. You're looking when you're scouting as opposed to going out with so you've got a november deer season and you're like hey. I've got some time to scout out in october as the worst time to try to look for deer because they aren't out in the open they're feeding their in completely different pattern during the summer during the spring. Deer and elk are in their feeding patterns. And this this pertains to a lot of other species this pertains to sheep this pertains to campaign to pronghorns Not so much as other things like that. The springtimes really good. I'd say springs a little bit better for pronghorns kind of rabbit trail. We can talk about pronghorns on on different episode. But we need to think about is like so they're growing season spring and the other stacking it on as as that spring good nutrition starts coming up. They're growing they're growing but you can't really tell with their antlers are fully like because they aren't quite developed yet so as you start going into summer some of that good spring nutrition shirt start shrinking up and you're limiting the number of areas where there's still really good food sources and you've got the advantage of the deer elk or whatever allers are growing and you can kind of tell what they're going to look like or you can tell exactly what they're what they look like but because they're needing that feed so much they're very tied to food sources and what that does is it kind of puts them one in a more pattern -able patterns. You can find them easier but it also allows you to concentrate where to look and allows them to be out in these areas more predictably in the mornings and evenings and more concentrated on food than cover so allows them to be out in. It's really good for glossing. Really good for finding. It's a really good time to take advantage of them being out in a place where it's easy to look because more open in generally for feeding areas and allows you to find the animals that you're looking for a lot.

I didn't see anybody, Neil, So I'm going to assume that no one did. And that you then watched at least some of the game. Yes, You are correct, sir. I did. And I will tell you. I was pleasantly surprised by both America the beautiful and the national anthem and I didn't know the artist her But I wanted to write on my social media. Her crushed it. My gram per police wouldn't let me do it. I thought she was fantastic. We'll keep her eye on that as we move forward now. They're finding that the vaccine this AstraZeneca vaccine is not as effective against mild cases and kind of intermediate cases it protects. It seems against the real serious ones. Of this South African variants of South Africa, saying we're gonna hold on. We're not going toe be giving people the AstraZeneca vaccine right away of which, I guess is good news for Fizer. But now they're going to examine the data on that, too. The good news here Charlie is these variants while being a lot more contagious, don't seem to be any more deadly and effect, in some cases, slightly less. So that's the silver lining. All right, not a serious news. But my favorite story of the pure Hope. Elka podcast today. I'm gonna give you a quote is from Kristen Thompson in Jamaica. He's an executive associate ID. No no but the legalization of marijuana in many states in this country in many countries around the world, decriminalizing it has driven up the demand. And I guess Jamaica just hasn't kept up with the farming. But it's what I would have first read the headline. I thought Come on now. So much jerking our chain here.
