"Hi everybody and welcome to another episode of gave my mom pound I am Mike. who were the vigilantes jalopy's with me tonight mast then Jalen Tease Stephan? Jd and Jesse Chavez returning back to gain my mom phone nice to have you back on again. Oh good to be here. Hasn't been episode eleven. You joined at that when we were still we were still baby. podcasters learning how to podcast. ooh I mean we're we're like forty some episodes of this coastal over forty at this point so Or you guys. You guys have leveled up good to Zia line a little bit. This was your pick for this episode. You WanNA introduce what we're GONNA be talking about this week. The yes we're talking about the comic book killer be killed. And it's done by Ed Brubaker. And Sean Phillips and colored by Elizabeth Elizabeth Bright Bright Bright Wiser Breitweiser for Budweiser. I don't know and before we go too far. There will be spoilers for this comic that came out in Twenty Sixteen Twenty eight and in two thousand eighteen and that long ago but also this just to give a quick worrying. This episode will probably touch on mental illness A lot of different. A lot of different explicit things are probably GonNa talk about cheating rape Killing people suicide. So just to warn you. I'm for instance episode. I just want to quit warning out there so it gets something. You're not well it. Yeah I mean. I don't know where this conversation going to go because it hasn't happened yet but I don't want to go back and add audio in. I want to get it out just in case anyone listened to his house would probably recommend headphones for this one because depending on what we say about this comic or if we go into it you might not want that out out loud put going so there's your warning. There's your warning about explicit content and if we get there and all right Stephanie. You said you wanted to start this off with a little bit intro to the comic. Yeah I'm just GONNA for people who haven't read the comic They won't be able to get the inner monologue which is a key component of the comic for main protagonist while vigilante main vigilante dylan. So I I just want to read the first couple of pages of just inner monologue to Kinda show where his mind is that in the world and the first thing he says. Here is This isn't how I imagine my life would be ever but you don't always have choice to you and let's face it become pretty good at this killing people people who you deserve it and yeah you can sit there and ask what gives me the right to make that judgment. But that's just your defense your alibi for not doing anything because because the world is shit right now and we all know it. Just look at the news for five fucking minutes and it's obvious big business controls your government assholes go on shooting rampages. There's almost a daily terrorist bluff airports and train stations. Cops Kill Innocent Black Kids and get away with the psychopaths run for president. uh-huh and the Middle East is one nuke away from turning us all into dust. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The fact is there's there's no justice bad people get away with everything and greed is destroying the entire fucking planet. We all know this is true but we refuse to really let ourselves believe we cling to fantasy to hope we say shit like the arc of time as long but it bends towards justice when it clearly so does not it eh towards fast fascism and mass graves but we said at our screens and filler heads with noise and scream at each other. As if that's going to change anything I get it is. I used to be like that too but now my life is different. Obviously it's fun comic coming. That's the first the top story eleven. Yeah I mean there. Are Things wrong with today's world. I will agree with that but I mean the story really I mean yes. It does touch on that but this guy is not the hero shaver before my pin. Yeah he's rains newbie. Yeah he's he's just a vigilante who for some reason start. Start seeing a demon after trying to commit suicide and now like the demon tells him you're still summarized summarized it very well. Yeah if you don't kill somebody for me every month that I'm going to take your soul. Because he miraculously survived suicide. which it's kind kind of funny how he does this rough? It's tied up like the cords or something right like the clotheslines. Yeah we didn't jump so that didn't help. The situation or thing of this story is one part death. Note One taxi driver. And just a dash talks walks like love to. Yeah well if we start seeing this demon that he doesn't believe is real and the end. I think the first or second issue pretty quickly that shows you. He's he's arguing with his demon but no one else can see it of course and he and he ends up breaking his arm or in his arm hurt or something was in shoulder. It's been like two weeks as I read this. Oh my memory's not as a snow patch definitely starts believing that steam is real then he anytime like he tells them to kill and that's his whole thing he doesn't WanNA WANNA kill but this demon like if you don't kill people I'm GonNa kill you because you owe me a life 'cause you spared yours. Yeah so that hands kill or be killed. Oh hold on are meeting halfway through the series but yes I just want to say that the story was so Ooh I mean even just in the beginning very depressing you you get into this character. Who Live with his roommate? Who's dating his friend? Who has a crush on and I think I forget what happened? That sets them up to having jump off the roof. Like what did she say. I can't remember her wording. Sit something that's what dinner. Something happened cares. Yeah I think essentially what it was. As they were all pity pitied him here through the vents. Yeah they were like getting it on or whatever and usually he'd have to listen to it and then this time they're like we feel pity for him and he's is like but she felt sorry for me. That's what did it so I don't know kill themselves. I mean I know a lot of people go through the situation. Having to live with someone else's into your roommate made banged the girl that you like or any over the prisoners that you like and and I wouldn't mess with someone's head. Yeah just one messed up situation nation. Just kind of hearkens back to being kind of like fight club Elissa Brad Pitt's character. What's his name? Tyler Durden MARLA. Yeah she won't she won't know the difference witnesses like that like she's on drugs sure sure she is. That's that's what it was. Yeah we're not going to kind of stick with whoa comics. We don't none of these are game comics but you know who were home. One thing I do yes go ahead Mike Okay. One thing I do want to say is that we haven't mentioned. Is that the first part that Stephan was reading takes place way later in the comic learns off with him seeing him killing people and he's he's already got the mask on he's already killer and then it reverts back and Tim Narrating story for a good chunk of the story about what happened. And he's like you're catching you're playing catch up. A majority of the of the comic is pretty much. Flashback everything leading up to a certain moment which is very noir direction they go for. It's not just reflected in the are just the entire story at fails kind of like you know. Yes I suppose you wondering how I ended ended up here well out mottaki seventeen issue seventeen fourteen. I caught up. It's supposed to record us like two weeks ago but due to scheduling conflicts to didn't happen just like I don't remember this book anymore but that's like any comic. If you're reading is when it came out I mean hell I would have forgotten. Each issue is some of these good month over month apart. It looks like which which is hilarious because he openly chastises people like. You probably forgot what happened but Casey just in case you did. Here's what happened last time. Isn't that feel like though last time on killer be killed Goku decided these more on a piece of demon thank you know. It's Kinda messed up. How he like finally decided to kill people? Because I like the whole demons there and he doesn't know if it's real or not and he starts feeling ill and he's like oh you know it's 'cause I'm dying because of the demon it's GonNa kill me and He remembers this terrible story about when he was younger. Because he's trying to find somebody that's worth killing like a bad person morning some explicit. The company did not mention so yeah and his friend. Teddy was was They were like little kids in there like playing around or whatever. Yeah it's so bad and Teddy Teddy turns to him. And he's like Dylan you want to Take off your pants awesome. We'll put our penises in each other's but holes and he's like why no and he's like well me and my brother do it all the time and he later realizes that Teddy Peddie he was being molested by bigger. Brother and Teddy's brother is the one who is like you know what I'm GonNa kill that guy and that's I mean it's just me. It doesn't take long before this book. This hits it hits a lot of sensitive you know sensitive stuff to talk about and it hit it hard and in a very just sparked up way. Let's say it's very fitting for the story though. Because in a way he he discusses it the very casual roundabout way but again especially with that openly open monologue setting type that opening monolog setting everything up. You know it's like yeah. This is the status quo. I'm used to it. They'll differences like but I'm actually do something about it in his own destructive fucked up way. Yeah exactly Kalihi. Because we all like. He's saying we all get angry about what's going on but we never like step up to do anything about it and you're right he does. He's like I'm going to kill this guy. Because he's he's a child molester. Things where like the guy deserved the guy deserved shot in the face later. He's even worse than what you thought. But it's just one of those things where it never even in the store. He doesn't work out too. Well where you're going from those but yeah it's like like what gives you the right which the thing does kind of touch on the detective. He runs into later. Flat out asked him that question multiple times like like seriously. What makes you think you have a right to be judge jury executioner and he doesn't really answer it initially yes to keep asking it over and over again as like a famous idea that I always think of? This is another fictional character. Batman like Batman can never kill joke even kill the joker he would stop it. You would end it all the Emerges v over. But then you're no better than the man. You are trying to stop the same idea. That's Brian that's all. I always feel about this actually..
