"One of the strangest accounts that we read one of the strangest theories. We found a regarding the events on the night of February first January thirty first. Twenty thirteen was an urban legend that originated in Korea and it is called the elevator game. This is completely speculative. We have not played this game. I don't know if we would want to. I cannot wait to do this. The idea I I would rank this in the old Dare Daring your friends to do stuff games at so. Many people play growing up turning off the lights seen bloody Mary. Several Times Mirror. Handyman right candyman. So the idea is that by performing a certain ritual in an elevator. Very specific when you will arrive at a slightly off kilter plane of existence and I'll read some stuff from just the account of the elevator game. According to people that have completed the game successfully. It looks the same as the town and building that you're from when you emerge but all the lights are off you can only see a red cross Cross the distance. You're the only living thing in this plane and for the most part electronics. Don't work if you managed to get to this strange place returning to the real world is more difficult you will grow disorder in the elevator. Door will seem to grow further and further away joie toward it. Only one person can play the game at a time it can only be performed in a building at least ten stories high with at least one elevator in it. Otherwise you cannot proceed and add the instructions for traveling and we don't have to go through. All of this one of the ideas would be you enter the well the basic steps you enter the elevator from the first floor by yourself. If anyone else gets on you cannot continue the ritual and you have to wait until you can take the elevator alone. You press the button for the fourth floor. When it reaches the fourth floor you stay inside the elevator and press the button for the second floor. Don't get out when you reach the second floor. Stay in and press the button for the sixth floor. And then after that don't get out remain in the elevator go back to the second floor and once reached the second floor press the button for the tenth floor and if you hear anything calling to you on the second floor do not reply. Don't answer and then once you're so it's very intricate right this pattern of buttons right so once you reach the tenth floor. Stay on impress the button for the fifth floor. This is the creepy part. They say that when you enter the when when you get to the fifth floor after you've done the series of buttons a woman will enter a stranger The strange woman will enter the elevator. And she'll try to talk to you and you can't acknowledge them she might. This person might even appear as someone you are familiar with. According to the legend you'll high school friend and CO worker. A new press the. It's important that you don't look this person. And if you press the button to head to the first floor this is when you know ritual worked correctly because you'll push the button for the first floor and instead of going to the first floor you go to the tenth you start going up and then if you reach the tenth floor you can stay on her exit. The elevator Some have said that when they are trying to leave the women will try one last time to engage with you she may raise your voice. Schmidt Shriek it you There's only one way to know whether you travel to the other world for sure you will be the only living thing there. And they have instructions to get back to the Get back to the actual world. Our world And they're they're they're pretty detailed so this has all the makings of an urban legend right. Yes it has all the troops. It has a It has the the fear of strangers and has the importance of ritual and rule following it has anonymity an author's it has no specific examples of times that this occurred so The best way for you and die and everyone else to find out whether this works would be to attempt it here. We cannot attempt our office because our office is not ten stories only goes up to seven her so that would be a different ritual really fast along with these things that you're listening off about. What makes it an urban legend? A one issue here is that electrtonics most electron. Ix don't seem to work or for the most part nor do poets. You know you try and film this so you can put it on Youtube and show yourself going to an alternate plane. It's probably not going to happen because trunks also need to be alone and would that violate one of the rules by having a camera which is in some way an infinite number of years but have this fellas now the thing about urban legends is that they're you know cobbled together from bits of things that may or may not be true. The thing you end up with is sort of. The product of a game of telephone played over generation. Sometimes you know what if a story like this? What if there was some truth to it? What if the procedure outlined here is not exactly right? What if someone really had the right way of doing this and did involve an elevator? Maybe it involves some strange hand gestures. Maybe it involved. You know pressing certain. Rove buttons all the way and maybe there's an apparition of some sort in that elevator footage. That is being communicated with in some way. I mean I don't usually go for this kind of stuff but this story really got my imagination going and I can't help but think of that. Tumbler image. That was posted after Elissa. Lamb's death so long. After of a single lightbulb with another world contained inside hanging from a string against a drab backdrop it just kind of represents the idea of a different world coin to a different place yet that you know that's a very good point oil also it also calls to mind our discussion about rituals and grim laws. You know the idea that maybe there is a real ritual and it. It just isn't specifically explained correctly. And we do know the one thing that escapes a. Lotta people about folk tales and fairy tales shirts easy to dismiss them but like no said with the game of telephone for generations. These are cobbled from very very old. Old Stories all So many of those urban legends that you may hear about. Ufo's began as stories of Gods and mountains and evil spirits or fairies or fe and so this likely does have the DNA might say of of something else and the way that the way that they associate the people who believe the elevator game through the way they associated is with exactly as you pointed out the button pushing and the deliberate seeming motions that this person takes but I wonder if is thought about the point that you made which I don't think I've heard I think is the first time I've thought about it. The light bulb image not to poke holes in the theory too much but at least a lamb at least according to the video never travels on the elevator stays on one floor. And I'm glad you brought that up because people who claim to be video editor experts have controversial views about that in. This is where I wanted. Defer to you guys your expertise do you think? The video is edited another time stamp is obscured in the original because several people watched it and said that it was edited for people who are not you know pursuing some kind of supernatural or extraordinary explanation for the people who think there is a conspiracy. Perhaps on the part of the hotel or perhaps even the LAPD on the LAPD end They say that there was someone else visible on the camera. But time had been cut out or spliced and I wanted to know what what you guys think of that the biggest thing for me in watching it is I cannot find a good enough rip of the original one. The the video that's posted under. What is it Dennis? Romero who that's the one with seventeen million views that we are talking about and that's obviously the most commonly viewed one just from the numbers but it is so pixellated and everything like the numbers at the bottom with the time code. Or would I'm assuming his time code on the bottom left hand corner it's just. It looks strange to me. And it's so little quality that it would be very hard to determine whether or not this thing was affected in post somehow to look a certain way Because you could manipulate the contents of this imagery fairly easily okay. So in that case it's sort of inconclusive. That's what I would say. Okay what do you think no? It wasn't anything that would have been easy to edit. That actually hit me about it. It was just more the way she moved. You know it was like the way she the things that she did so you. Are you saying that like it may have been? There may have been parts of it. That were edited out. Perhaps where the elevator was in motion where she did get on in took the elevator to another floor or someone else did at some point. Get on the elevator with her here on camera and then the numbers down here that it appears to be a time code. That's in white as the primary color. And then there's either a drop shadow or a black background on top of the numbers and that's generally not what you see in time code. Perhaps it is for this System that's used in the hotel but it looks strange to me as someone who works with video on a daily basis. Why does it matter whether it moved or not? I guess for more information on her travels like whether she was truly alone. And you know if that if it was available to the police then they would know and that would be part of the investigation fully. And I'll put on my I'll put on my Jonathan cap here for a second to and say that the one one of the people believe that. The video was edited as some sort of conspiracy. Maybe if there was a if there was a murder in with someone at the hotel or something the Their idea is that it was edited to cut that person off from appearing on camera however we should also point out that even unto the idea of door locks and stuff this is kind of a CD hotel or a budget hotel right and see a lot of history but also it's not as likely to follow procedures to a T. Including stuff like elevator maintenance. So if it's an older elevator it could just be malfunctioning. I don't know if that's the case. I haven't talked to the elevator maintenance guy. I haven't checked their paperwork from twenty thirteen but that does seem to be a possibility if someone were to be murdered in a hotel. Is The hotel liable to the family of the victim? That's a really good question. I guess it would only be through if it were through negligence. So if we were to use US for example who are other Coworkers Jonathan? Okay sure Oh John is GonNa love this episode all right. So Jonathan were in We're in a hotel room. And he invited guests over.

"Like nine jotted down but I'm sure there's hundreds but we've kind of explored already is what she murdered word and just kind of the aspects of that so we were talking. What about cover-ups The paranormal Aspect of it is huge. Unfortunately right right well another part kind of under that murdered headline and this one seems very very very strange but hear me out so that movie dark water right. I don't know. has anyone seen it. Yes you have okay so I One of the theories that I've seen is that someone killed her in order to reenact in a sense that movie and that is why all of the Mm All there's a couple little relations to the movie I I watched it again today. Just so I could understand this theory a little bit more But the daughter in the movie is named Cecilia The MOMS Dahlia which some people. It's rumored that lack Dalia. I was at the hotel at one. Point not confirmed though I will say and there is someone That was drowned in the water tank. Excuse me on top of the the hotel or sorry. It was an apartment building in the movie But one theory that I've been seeing quite a bit is that someone literally literally wanted her to play out this movie and then tossed you know the tricked her or toaster into the water tank and basically left her there to drown And that the kid in the movie wears a red shirt and that she's wearing that had a reddish hoodie and and that the Hoodie I believe was like a size or two bigger than what she normally war. Yes was so it was size. Large random random theory. I do not buy it but it is a very strange connection. No movie that was made prior the Hoodie before small and then the shirt shed underneath underneath was a green shirt though is actually a size men's large And then the the basketball shorts were fairly big. I believe right. Yeah the Ramon size medium. So I don't know how you guys feel about that I said that's floating around So Jake in your research research for this and going down Internet forums or just the people who've come to you discussed the case I'm just going to ask if you don't mind telling US WHAT THE MOST MR ridiculously outlandish theory that I mean you're just you know one hundred percent sure. There's no way that that could've taken place. Oh Yeah I can tell you that for sure there is this guy. His name comes up and A few different forums on different websites and I just called himself mark or something but he he he would write these pretty Short but provocative posts saying you know like I know what happened and I the parents deserve to know and You know he really piqued my interest So I messaged him and set up a time to talk to him and we talk for a little while and you know at first. He seemed pretty normal and seemed like he had a good grasp on the facts of the case and was pretty sincere and then in Somewhere along the line he stirred stirred referring to how you know. She was like because I started to think. Okay maybe she was dead before she got the tank but all of a sudden this guy was saying she was already dead. During the surveillance tape and bitterly believes that there are a series series of pulleys and levers and straps that are basically. She's being a puppeteer like ending. I need it sounds I really truly do not believe. I thought he was. Just trolling me. But then ended up APPs accidentally stumbling into him again. I forgot his name was sorry for once again. I saw message saying I know what happened so I set up another phone call thinking he was a different person and then halfway through in my head. I'm like Oh my oh my God knows and he was just in a beef. He claims he's cracked all these different cases. By basically just zooming you mean in on the video and basically he's zooms in on these pixels and then his mind runs wild and he interprets all these things he and and his mind is interpreting These straps and levers and demon faces and it was just basically the perfect metaphor perfect example apple of of this case of what it brings out with people. You don't WanNa see his basement. Seen his posts on some some of them to and you know I'm like tell me more but then I I haven't really commented on anything just because you know forums. I don't know if it's true but that's I feel feel a little bit better. See like my the case that I have been absolutely I've stayed awake Stayed awake over at night and I've been obsessed with Has Actually now been solved. It was the east area. Riposte But I I was just deep in those forums and try to figure out theories and everyone had a possible theory. That was actually realistic. No one actually went. You know it was a demonic entity going into people's houses you know everyone kind of stayed on the up and up of What was physically possible? You know so at least lamb case for some reason just brings out the the worst people as a whole. What's another one that you guys have seen? That is just insane. I have one brother. One that I thought was interesting for me to elevator game. I think find that to be absolutely the most populous thing I've ever heard of a my entire life so so do you want to explain the elevator or do you want excuse me. I'm getting like choked up and upset even thinking about it so basically clearly. I am. Correct me if I'm wrong but it's from Korean folklore. I'm not sure where it originated from exactly But more or less if you go into an elevator with what at least ten floors or something that you have to go alone you have to go alone and if you you know go to the sixth floor and then wait for like a woman to come on and then you go down to another floor and you keep pip going back and forth between the specific floors. He will go to another dimension. Well I if started on wine and then you go up and then you know you go back back and forth and then you I believe it's four or five that a woman may walk in and you may know the woman And that's why Kinda put it into her case this. They say that that's who she's talking to. Yes that she got up onto that floor and the woman is in the elevator. And that's why she's freaking out because the woman is there with with her and in this ritual or game I've seen it called both If you talk to the woman that's why you disappear into the you know dimension Ed Chen or whatever it is Amanda frequently does elevator. Am I sure So that one yeah. I did have to research a little bit more because I was like wait a minute. What and it's a real man to like? It's not just you know the The crazy ramblings of one or two people this is apparent thousands of people believe it can be the elevator game and right I just WanNa say guys come on. We can do better as a society please. That's critical that's that's you know that's one of the interesting aspects of this is cases. Just how many pathologies it's brought out and and not necessarily a conspiracy theories necessarily pathology but The strength with which people will believe this stuff The weirdest one. I think that's out there is that it was a biological false flag and that Because has one of the biggest synchronous cities and this part's actually real so those a outbreak of tuberculosis and in downtown. La At that exact time so so they The CDC dispatched like a federal team of scientists to go You know work on it. And so so they. They have a a test for certain kinds of tuberculosis. And Look I'm I'm not making this up. You can literally Google. You can look it up. There isn't awesome. There's a there's a tuberculosis test. It happens to be the one they used for this case at this time. And it's called the Lamma Lisa test and and so because of this. Just extraordinary coincidence there. There are people that believe that this was some kind of government biological experiment that was being running and it at least it was just a host for some. You know strange disease. They were testing or something like that and people get really worked up in detail oriented about this stuff and I. That's one of the weirder ones. I heard what they added. Is the other theory around the TB test was that she wasn't even a real person and the reason why they named her. The ELISSA lamb is so when people were trying to Google about about the TB outbreak and any of the tests you know if they google the test or whatever her death would come up rather than the TB outbreak. And that she he was just an actress and now she's disappeared and that's why she never posted pictures of her face. Right the impostor theory. It's very strange. And you know now it's just People that really go hard into that it. It's it's almost kind of trivializing Her in her life you know it's just like it. You know this actress that they hired I mean did did she spend five years documenting her her troubles with mental illness. I mean is that was part of the the facade like it's just when when you when you drill down into the details of some of these theories they really they fall apart pretty quickly. Obviously you know and to be honest with you though the The tuberculosis test was something that I actually didn't throw away. Because if you kind of familiar with American history history you have obviously like woodstock different chemical gas experiments and these are all you know open and Factual University Louisiana State Board Board of health actually fed black prisoners in the fifties and sixties sulfuric acid in their food Do like chemical testing thing and I mean the list goes on and on and on and on the operation top hat military things and we actually even sprayed chemical and mustard gas over Like Winnipeg Manitoba in Canada like the. US Army did you know so like a it. Sounds so like conspiracy bat shit and saying conspiracy theory of the Turbo Tuberculosis test. However if you are familiar with American history and like the Crazy Shit we've done to our own people Unknowingly it actually. You know may not be that. Insane scribe to that. But I'm just saying you know. Government has absent definitely Experimented on people. I mean. That's yeah you're right. There's lots of documented evidence on that M. K. Ultra All kinds of stuff exactly. Yeah that's they don't they don't get the benefit of the doubt on that and I feel like you know like coming comes razor type of ordeal. You know what's usually the most You know simple kind kind of those unfortunately because of the complete ineptitude of the LAPD we don't even know the basic facts of the case to even be able to speculate that far right as far whereas other conspiracy theories yeah the demonic possession. That goes Look the invisibility cloak Jake do you have more information on that. So y'all what are your thoughts on that it was. It stemmed from a twitter post from January twelfth. All twenty thirteen. Yeah I made its bit. Yes she tweeted something about an invisibility cloak. And then there's this weird building next door and if you run a if you run a Direction or map quest of.

"So from what we we can put together is. She started planning the trip and she started playing around the thirteenth. That looks like is when she might have booked. According to our blog on January twenty third she does mention that she got lost an airport. So we've all done that and then and I believe she made it to San Diego on the twenty fourth spent a couple of days in San Diego and one thing we'll note to in in this might come come into into more detail later but on the twenty fifth while in San Diego. She does talk about how she stuffed herself silly with a three dollar meal. She also talks about how she stayed in a hostel so money saving and I think that might be playing a role later as to why she chose this specific hotel in Los Angeles so so on January twenty sixth Elissa lamb did arrive in La. Now here's one thing that I cannot find a reputable source for wikipedia. Wikipedia says that she checked into the hotel see Seoul two days later however. CNN says she checked in the same day she arrived. Yes that was a big Mystery read that really kind of drove me crazy for a while And to confirm gas she did go to San Diego. I and she lost her phone own there now. It appears that she'd navy Had a second phone when she was in. La and I think there's a post of a friend of occurs on tumblers saying that she had lost her phone in San Diego after leaving the hostile and then he I think maybe gave her a another phone to us as win she arrived to La and then when she arrived at the Cecil Hotel. That's still up in the air. I I originally one of the things. I was so confused as she seemed to have arrived in l.. A. On the twenty six but then she didn't check into the hotel until the twentieth bright bright so I was very confused too and I thought maybe that was a missing clue that we needed to look into. What was she doing and wherever she staying more importantly Yes for those days? The Twenty six twenty seven cracked a blog. Post that I noticed is the one on the twenty ninth made me made it sound like. She was staying close by where she could see the hotel but wasn't quite staying there but everything. I've read says that she was there by that time. But on tumbler she said I have arrived. in-law land I'm thinking La Land and there's this monstrosity of a building next to the place. I'm state when I say monstrosity. Mind you I'm saying as in Gaudy but then again it was built in nineteen nineteen twenty eight hence the art deco theme. Yes it is classy but since it's La it went on crack fairly certain. This is where Baas lawmen needs to film the Great Gatsby so I don't know what she's talking about there while she was very obsessed with the great gatsby me She references it a lot in her posts and Re blogs a lot of pictures from the movie and stuff the best. I think we're GONNA get right now. Is I interviewed someone for the book who is up of Web Sleuth based in England and what he did is he did something. He calls a time stamp map in what he did is he went in any any viewed the metadata of every single one of her tumbler posts and by doing that was trying to trace where she was for every single post and and he can only do that for her actual posts re blog. A cute are those which are basically re blogs it? We'll go up at some point later. He couldn't look at the data for that but based on what he looked at he he thinks that she got to the hotel on the twenty twenty six and You know this guy. Basically thinks that she was very unused to not having regular Internet access a Based on his analysis of her previous posts she had pretty much been on the Internet and specifically on Tumbler for pretty much every single day for months prior to that and then suddenly she gets to L. A. and Jazz bagger Internet access in her room which is kind of a complaint you hear pretty common there and maybe was not able to access the Internet in a room but maybe she can access it in the lobby of the hotel but either way basically basically he says that he thinks that contributed a lot to her anxiety and Yeah I mean there's just there's all kinds of angles to go in. Here is but as far as the exact exact timeline I might. My feeling is that she did probably check in on the twenty six but I'm not sure without as there's very few firsthand witnesses it will talk about Including including the women she stayed with she was originally in a shared room and then For the first two nights I think and then something about her behavior was was making those winning uncomfortable and so they asked to have removed different room and we. We don't know who those women are. They were never era viewed by anyone and there. There's just really literally no way. Redefined them at this point. We have mentioned earlier. And I believe since you have joined as well. So the seasonal hotel was effectively in skid row. Oh look at least beside it. Are you familiar with in twenty thirteen. The place meant you know. We did an overhead. Google Earth. Kind of You know search of the season as a hotel and you can see the tents and the tar one block away from it. The cease a little hotel has been notorious for housing criminals and drug serial killer sewn and so fourth how bad in two thousand thirteen when a Lisa Lamb stayed there was the seasonal hotels inhabitants. And the outside like direct. Was it bad. Was it hardcore. Let's go or so. The history of the sessile hotel in that area is something I I go into. I mean I definitely think there's room for greater biographical information on the hotel but its placement downtown. So basically it is in the skid row area for sure it's however Because of the gentrification efforts that have been going on there for for decades skid row basically keeps getting moved basically making the skid row area smaller. They keep moving it because the business owners. They're the venture capitalists. That are coming in. They're trying to in this there's been numerous Of going in and trying to turn the buildings there into these kind of like really youth focused international business. Traveler traveler focused money pots and. That's essentially what two different owners of hotel tried to do in the early part of the century and they failed each time. Now to to its credit so I mean technically skid row is just basically couple blocks away from Cecil hotel but it's definitely still a dangerous area. The history of the hotel itself is kind of interesting because while it has this really corrupt history it will get into It's actually actually one of the only hotels it has made itself consistently available to low income tenants all the other hotels. Have you know for lack of better. Words sold out and basically we just made a a total joie hotel and just tried to make as much money as they can and for whatever reason that the owners of the Cecil Hotel I kept trying to do that but the failing and so they ended up it just remaining. Is this incredibly low income place where you have two different kinds of tenant and so it was a hotel that people could stay in. It was also a basically a resident style place where people it had tenants that live there year round and those tenants lived on the upper floors whereas the hotel people would be in the bottom floors which makes it even more mysterious. This is to what he was doing his move for in school after after staying Does she was moved. He was moved to another room on the fifth floor. She she basically stayed on the fifth floor. We don't know why she was on the fourteenth floor. Except perhaps I mean I have my my theories in terms of her moving around and whatnot but the the hotel is absolutely I mean that whole areas definitely dangerous or as many many sex offenders that live in that area. I looked it up. I mean you can look up you. You know the records of sex offenders living area. There's there's dozens and then there's several within the hotel itself all right guys so now that we've been talking about the hotel abets so so hotel cecil or otherwise known as stay on main. Do we want to go into the history of it w wonderful it was obviously. It's it's located in Los Angeles it was built in nineteen twenty. Four by William Banks Hanner and designed by Lester Smith originally. It was supposed to be a destination for business travellers travelers and tourists. It was very high end luxurious. It was supposed to be amazing. It did open nineteen twenty seven and it did pretty well until about the nineteen forties. And that's kind of where Where things started going a little south the US was hit by the Great Depression and about nineteen twenty nine and then years later in order to stay open it did have to reduce its rates to match the surrounding area and what had become so just a couple blocks down the road is skid row So that started attracting drug addicts Sex Workers Runaways. Just all of that stuff and from there it. It became more notorious. There's tons of suicides. Random deaths and even some serial killer stayed there. You're so jake have you in your research and time. Since you've been looking at the lamb case have you been in The seasonal hotel. Have you walked around can. Can you give us kind of an overview of what it's like and what you experience them kind of all facets yeah Yes I went there twice. Day there By myself which I don't recommend does it's Jessica yet a very strange feeling and and I'm not even At the risk of sounding what chauvinistic or I don't know arrogant or something I'll say that I don't get scared but it takes a lot got to to freak me out like all like I'll watch horror movies but before I go to bed just to get sleepy like it takes a lot to scare me and displays Placed his has a energy to it. That it's just like it really has a life of its own like it's its own mind operating there uh-huh and You know at first. I kind of just thought that I was being hysterical Or maybe I was creating it. clown psychosomatically. Because of the research. I'd been doing but And that's very possible. You know I went back and I did just really meticulous research on on history and add on a little bit too. You know your your outline of the history of I mean. I don't want to go too in depth. I mean I I did so much research on this like I know. Oh stuff their pillows back in nineteen twenty four originally suffer pillows with goose and duck feathers and they just really obscure error crap that really no one needs to know but the history of the hotels definitely something. That's really hard to overlook Any kind of way Because it so it's just it's like there's a curse on the place like like you say was built in the Mid Nineteen Twenty S. He and there were problems with it criminally speaking even before the Great Depression but the Great Depression religious kind of set off This whole curse I guess of suicides took place there and it was just one after another and it was a great deal of of people jumping out the windows and doing horrible things to each other That was at least one. Woman was brutally murdered. Dare and I'm pretty sure there..
"elissa lamb" Discussed on We Saw the Devil
"You can follow us on Instagram at. I saw the devil podcast or on twitter at e saw. And if you want to follow specific co-hosts social media you can find the links of those on our website as well so in today's episode we will be covering the case of Lisa Lamb. The Canadian College Student Who is found new deceased in the water tank on the roof of her hotel in Los Angeles. Now this case garnered international attention because there are so many bizarre elements in it. You have a young beautiful college student. A supposedly haunted hotel that scene suicides and Serial Killers Creepy C. T. V. The footage and a mysterious and tragic death just doesn't seem to make sense so their timeline surrounding the case is incredibly muddled. There just isn't a lot of verified. Provide information on anything it seems. Even the original police conferences gave minimal information to the public so we decided to bring on a guest who can help us out jake. Anderson Percents is an author and investigative journalists who spent the last five years self-funding full investigation into at least lamb. Stuff he hire private investigators. He interviewed original members of the law enforcement and medical examiner team That were originally assigned to the case he went to the CCA hotel and retraced her exact step. He spoke with people people who saw her in her final days. He interviewed people who were there. The day that her body was found on his upcoming book gone at midnight and the mysterious death of a Lisa. Lamb lamb comes out on February twenty fifth and basically chronicles his search for the truth behind the case and Jake was kind enough to join us to help us try to put the pieces together. He'll be sharing sharing findings in this episode on the case that no one has heard yet. So you'll be hearing it for the first time and I think it can save speaking for all of us that it definitely changed our minds. Okay so Amanda. Would you like to kick it off by giving the listeners. Quick rundown of the case sure So this case brought so many people together because it had so many different aspects that people could argue about it started in two thousand thirteen when Lissa lamb made her way to Los Angeles California in stayed at the hotel now during the stay she started acting very strange and there was a video of her in an an elevator that went viral will talk more in detail about this video but essentially she was acting very strange in the elevator. And that's the last time anyone saw saw her alive and then a couple of weeks later after her disappearance people staying at the hotel complained of water pressure taste smell L. and look of their water which sent a maintenance worker to the top of the hotel to look in the water tank and there he found Elissa lambs body. Now the big thing is no one knows how she got into the tank and that's kind of where the interest to this case continued and no one one knows how she got there. There are various theories and arguments. And you could probably read things online for weeks getting different opinions on this case what you'll see when you do research cases everything from paranormal to conspiracy theories all the way way to a mental health discussions. That case is so incredibly Saad. I recall the first time I heard that case. I was up late at night and I couldn't even sleep and it was. The video was pretty terrifying. Not GonNa lie and I wanted to know what happened to her. No I agree I I remember the first time I saw the video and and honestly even to this day when I when I see the elevator video I still get chills. Because I can't explain why she's doing some of the things she's doing wing now later on when we talk about the video there is some things that might explain what's going on but still even after reading some explanations it still gives tails. I'm super stoked for us. A deep dive into this case. Because I have been intrigued by it for years and this is the anniversary week of her disappearance so we thought it would be a good idea talk about it and try to understand a little bit more of what she was going through and what might have happened to her. Okay so I think it's time to bring Jake Anderson Persson on The timeline of the case has been pretty muddled since the very beginning a lot of confusion a lot of misinformation. So maybe Jake can help us out with that so jake thank you so much for taking the time to join us this evening trying to find someone who's put the time and effort and resources into researching this case because as as I'm sure you're aware the public time line is very very cloudy and muddled as far as what the public has been told and what has been released the public. So thank you again for for coming on well. Thanks for having got a great great podcasts. On honor to be on we appreciate that Let's start out. How did you get involved with daily slam case as a whole so the origins for for me were the same as with most people I a friend sent me the link to the surveillance silence video? There was something about it That felt strange and disturbing. But for reasons I didn't fully understand and I would kind of return to it often on and You know I started kind of getting more engaged in it as it started to unfurl kind of new information came out as they. You know kind kind of discovered the body and everything. It just kept getting more and more existential. I don't know it was. It was just not a normal true crime case. You know one of the initial things that I was really fascinated by was kind of the obsession with it. I think you know for lack of a better word. It's used a lot that the the case almost seem kind of like a Rochette test for people. Psychologically they would no matter what their world views are they would find some reason to apply them to this case. So you get all the get all these very strange interpretations of Paranormal Activity Daemon -nology and then some of the more outlandish conspiracy theories. And I I used to study conspiracy theories Sometimes that here into them but usually just kind of fascinated with the psychology behind behind in. I've never seen a case and I documented a lot of them in my book of. I've never seen Moore Bizarre conspiracy theories that people believe to the bottom of their sole. You know this is a very emotional case for people to something I realized early on is that people had an emotional investment in it for me. One of the things things that interested me pretty early on is when I started reading a Lisa's blogs and realized that she suffered depression and whatnot. And that interested me. Because I've struggled with that myself the more I read her posts the more I kind of had a personal connection to her and and I wasn't the only one you go on her blog post and read the comments underneath. It's just become a kind of almost like community of people are using her case to you discuss a mental illness and so it's kind of combination of people simultaneously feeling sympathy for her but then also kind of stigmatizing is aim mental illness People not able to accept kind of Dark Risley's things can happen so I went into the case fully believing that it was just. There's an accident and that people were kind of stigmatizing. The mental illness part of it because they don't fully understand it and particularly when I as I got further the rain I realized it wasn't just depression. She was struggling with bipolar disorder. And that actually runs in my family and I found you know my my aunt handed and it took her life. And I've had a couple of really close friends ditch. Almost Almost died because of it. You know suicide is very shockingly shockingly common or it'd be suicide attempts or very shockingly common. I'm not I'm not. You know trying to make myself sound more sympathetic or anything but just You know mental illness is a Epidemic right now and people don't really know how to deal with it. People are just really discovering how to talk to their friends and loved ones about it. And so this case I feel like was kind of like a harbinger of that. All these new statistics showing you know how big of a problem depression bipolar disorder. And and it's just very difficult to deal with and we can get more into that leader but still still answering your first question. That was kind of how I got into. The case was Wiz. I was gonNA write kind of like a sociological essay or longer piece of Lent itself to it about kind of the site that psychological Michael Aspect of it. And of course there's a part of me that's always been interested in para psychological phenomenon as well sometimes more from skeptics point of view but just the history history of the hotel was interesting so all of that kind of lent itself to meet digging deeper into the case and it just kind of kept going and kept going and and every time. I thought that I was going to stop researching at some new. Synchronicity would would connect back to the case and just kept me digging and ultimately ultimately I we. I started to try to make documentary about it with my friend. Jared and Ultimately the book turn out the best way to to tell the story and for those that don't know when does the book out K it's released February twenty fifth you can pre-order it now Good reads Amazon. It's called dawn at midnight. Mysterious various death of at least a lamb and It's getting it's getting good publicity. I think people are interested in it and then everyone who's interested in this case. Even though there's wildly different reasons why people are interested. In this case I think there's something for everyone in terms of the the totality of the case. Why it's so fascinating on so many different levels? So I know Robin was going to start a little bit with just some basic stuff. And then we were going to toggle into the Timeline of the events that we know of and then if you want to help fill in some of the stuff be our guest. Do the best I can some of. It's still unknown. Okay Okay but yeah let's go. Let's let's let's figure out as much as we can. Her parents emigrated from Hong Kong and opened a restaurant in town side of thank you for British Columbia so she ended up going to the University of British Columbia as a student and when she was twenty one she decided to travel. She wanted to go on her. A quote unquote West Coast tour. And so she embarked to California. I went through and got some of the the dates from her blog. So we can share that too. It's the Tumbler blog and she posted quite a bit fashion. There's a blog post that are her writings. And then there's also wave reposting staying so for those that haven't used hamblur before it is a little convoluted it's not like facebook But she did share a lot of information on.
