And then i check my thing god dammit me and the links that dumbest i have two options here right. Look and what i did was i just sent another email and i said man. How many times am i going to mess this up. I am terrible at email marketing. I'm an idiot. I sent a dead link. Here's the real link. Here's the one interested. Click it and then you know there it went. So what are you going to do when you fail. What are you gonna do when times get hard. Are you going to try. Deny it you going to say no man stop you know like people right now with. I writes get over it and now look i i mean do. I think some things are going too far. Yes sure but it's all in how you can adjust. How do you adjust so that you can keep surviving so that you can keep treading water. You don't get to win all the time. yeah you know. And whether it's the government or another person. I get it sucks if fucking sucks. How do you adjust so that you can stay afloat. This is what in my opinion from my perspective. The real winners. Do i wanna talk about keeping afloat. Because you know we. We talked about your book. The gospel of fire Who is that book best suited for that. You know we've got listeners out there. There are people from all walks of life. Who are listening to the show. There's obviously a lot of entrepreneurs listening in as well as business owners. Some people may maybe going through some struggles right now particularly now with everything going on in the world who's going to benefit from reading that book anybody who's around somebody or is themselves struggling. Okay right. it's my journey struggle. What it looked. Like an how. I started to get myself out now. Look that's changed. I've learned some. I wrote that book in two thousand seventeen so i figured out some more skillful tools not some better ones. I don't like to use this word better and worse..

"It doesn't matter what walk of life you come from. I would train with and guys working part time in a in a warehouse and just all walks lightning matter and it is just it. Just levels the playing field and especially. That's another story because the you know exactly what belt that person is but especially nogi step on the mat and you. You're only getting. You don't know who's who's who anymore doesn't now doesn't matter. Exactly how good looking at your husband or wife is doesn't matter. Matters is within that matters is the skill and the sweat when the net and look. And here's the beauty of jiu jitsu. This is the connector piece is. You can't get good alone. Yeah so right at you need somebody else. You need trading partners. Yeah a lot of people right a lot of people like flavors ice cream. You can't figure out your flavor ice cream until you've had them all and then once you've had them all off you might even come back to vanilla. Yeah right you know. My dad's favorite ice cream vanilla. It's the first one he's ever had to. But you gotta go experience. You need to see how this person moves and that person moves and they teach you something in. I don't teach ju jitsu. I'd teach ideas. I teach critical thinking. Yeah my job is to be able to give my students the ability to critically think in high pressure situations. And if you can do that if you can calm the mind now look. This is now business. This is life. This is everything if we can calm the mind and being a high pressure situation and learn how to block out the noise and see what the task in front of you is now. You're just a much more. Skillful human beings right. You're just a much more. Skillful human being. You know that the person over there bargained isn't gonna do shit right at the employees over there. Okay i'll handle you in a second but right now we got this fire right here. I'm the handle fire. Yeah yeah and you're right because in life jujitsu you're forced to face adversity everyday everyday on mats. And you learn how to be calm in those situations not panic and in life especially in business you and i both know that we are going to face adversity. There are things coming around the corner that we have no idea. We can't be around the corner yet. That are coming and being able to deal with those in a professional and commander. I mean is a game changer. Have you ever seen a pandemic before you know elliot of side of my wife. The other day. I said it's like we're living through a movie. Never seen and i'm the hell knew what to do. I remember sitting without my employees in march twenty twenty. We sent them home by april. We were saying we have no idea what's going to go on. We might have to lay off. I mean what a terrible conversation to have as a leader organization that people that depend on you. Yeah so we're facing we. We never had an and i honestly do sale. I won't say it's just just because i'm new jitsu practitioner. I believe that training all those years has made me a better prepared human being for facing this adversity because there's pressure coming from every direction and it's a really hard time right now. "So thank you touch me right. I can adjust your show. They can piss me off in all those things but no event touches me so no event touches me the quote over here to my right is the teddy roosevelt quote right the man in the arena that now allows me to just enter the arena over and over and over again my favorite part the end that i'll never be with those cold and timid who know neither victory nor defeat because there's a lot of defeat on this road there's a lot of failure way more failure than anything else on whatever journey. You're trying right. I tried to be world champion. Jujitsu failed try to be a real champion in. The ufc failed businesses. You know we do okay. But it's just this massive failure overnight you've never met a more failing successful is probably like say but i know exactly who i am. Yeah without a doubt. I know who i am love myself and then just enter the arena over and over and over again and when he goes bad it. Just don't really fucking care mia love what you're saying. I've never even thought about that. That's an exercise that that is going to happen as today. That i haven't defined. Who i whose robin bailey right and i love the last one. It's like our guiding principles of our company. The last one is the most important. And i think the last one is the most important you listed that i am enough. Can we talk about because we we've talked about your journey who you were growing up. Why you didn't feel safe while you felt maybe a little bit of an outsider but as you began that martial arts career you begin getting friends you know you said it'd be the first person wanted to make out with you that sort of thing and what people looked at you and said wow that guy wanted to be around that guy but at some point and we chatted about this from the top of the episode. I guess where and when did that journey with things -iety began because you know from an outsider looking in well. Here's this guy. Very good martial arts and boy. I want to hang around with him and he's tough. Seems like a cool guy and martial arts school so so. Where does that come in with all this every day when you leave the house and the placing any blame on anyone here like my parents and my grandparents right. How could they think any differently every day. When.

"There's so many times. When i started down this journey when i wanted to pull my hair out and going home to talk to my wife. Why am i doing this. I'm never going back but you learn to face adversity and keep going back. So i wanna go back in time. Because i'd i'd be interested to hear all of the stuff that you're talking about the importance of where it's taking you in. You're not only your career but your life when and how did you discover this. When did you start your martial arts. Joe i started when i was six allows you start. Say started very young. I started in nineteen eighty six in this style called green gray hair look business a little bit of a story but it's back it up so for me. What this all became came. This led to also my mental health issue. I was born to a black dad. I have a black data. And i have a jewish mother whose parents survived the holocaust so unborn nineteen eighty backup where my dad was my data through civil rights america right so i have a very connected in personal story of being in other you know and not being safe. My dad wasn't safe in his childhood and journey and my grandparents were obviously not safe and then when they had my mother but bad just on the camps man by this nothing but fear. While and i spent a lot of time with them have a lot of holocaust stories in what these stories were like. Your life is not safe. Your life is not safe you know and then it actually started to come true for me you know. We moved to this town in south jersey and as we're building our house. My house is spray. Painted nigers go home. Yes they spell the word wrong they got it right on the second and third. Time's swastikas all over. You know and this was just a constant thing for me growing up. And where i was so i wasn't safe. I have very few friends in high school. I had was karate i was doing karate. It started karate at this point. You know i fit as he. Just you know martial arts have this thing where if you just go just show up you assimilate to the culture and the culture accepts you exactly. So here i go. You know i'm going and building. I get a black belt teaching. I'm still at school though..

"Arts number one. It starts out as for the individual okay. It develops an individual human especially brazilian. Jujitsu in multi. For my opinion they develop a human better than any other skill. And what do i mean by that you fail you suck and this is just the truth of life to you can't walk. You're born and where we're totally on a mother and a father or whoever going to raise us. We can't eat on our own. We can't do anything on our own. We needed assistance. And you failed valid. Fail okay you can't walk. You try to get up you fall down and for some reason for most of our life. This doesn't bug us right for our childhood. It doesn't really bug you. What did they say between zero and five more than the rest of your life. Yeah exactly so for this first five years you just run ever get up and try again. I'll get up and try again. Oh look me a you know. Mush sites brings that back brazilians multi. They bring that back. You can't do anything like this student. New she's one hundred twenty five pounds. And if you don't know what you're doing you're not going to get her off of you. Right as a hundred and seventy pound male. She will mount you in choke you out. Yeah hey like and you're like what the hell so you're you're helpless again and then oh wait a minute. I start to be a little less helpless. Not winning it. There's no winning. There's no winning going on but there's this o can keep myself safe. Oh god look at this. In in that journey that journey of building true self esteem just continues and as you get better and it's it's hard and you have to do really hard things you beat up your home. Your next all scratched up in your wife or your husband. Whoever it is is like what are you doing. Why doing this. And you're like. I don't know i don't know i am doing what i'm doing this. Just because there's there's something drawn out of you of struggle. It teaches you to deal with struggle and use a lot of you know movie references. I guess By club at best man. After fighting everything else gets the volume turned down. Just a little quieter deal with some having their around your neck trying to strangle you you know and you can learn how to stay calm in that situation and then like okay and then assess what it is you need to do. Come on man. Yeah exactly it's funny. You bring back such good memories for me. When i first started my jujitsu woodbridge and it was around the time. The first ufc minimum. Gore's everybody knows the story hoist gracie this brazilian guy one hundred seventy pounds soaking wet and just destroying everybody at..

"What if that was twenty percent more intense. What would have happened right right. So i've had all of these lucky situations come up in my life even the things that i didn't enjoy at the time And they have been able to let me have the mindset that everything in my life happens for me. Nothing happens to me. I am the victor of my life. I am not a victim you know and so what is my job now. My job is to go out and sprinkle as much luck dust on his many other people as i can in the world. Let's go let's go. You can do it. You can do it. I i firmly and wholeheartedly believe that every individual in the world has the power to do this. Now how do we do that. I say we equalize out the opportunity for as many people in the world opportunity. Not the fucking outcome okay. Everyone needs to have the opportunity to be successful. I know what you meant. Yeah i know what you mean. And now look. I'm a black jew right. That's so we started the podcast Do i believe the opportunities or equal. There's racism so you're fucked. There's antisemitism your fuck. There's i hate white people so you're fucked right whatever it is no. You're not fucked. You're fucked if you believe you're fucked you're only fucked if you believe you're fucking you if you buy into the narrative that life that life is fair and it should be fair. Life isn't fair. there's nothing fair about this. You and i are sitting here on a monday talking. There's people that are starving. There's people that haven't had water in ford in three days. It's not fair. what are you going to do about it. Free rides whatsapp snow free rides. There's no free rides. It's all on you but how would you want it any other way. I try to explain it to people like this. Because you're absolutely right. You're gonna always have baggage everyone's gonna baggage everybody's gonna have shit that affected them. A certain way in my baggage is no better than your baggage and your baggage is no better than mind if you operate in that mindset and you understand that you're going to get on the train to leave the bags behind. I don't even think you have to leave it behind. You have to be really really aware of it or where. Yeah or where of course look. I'm a softy. John i you know. I'm a figurative bags you get. Like i was the head coach elevation fight team for the last three years and i walked away. I walked away because it just wasn't done You know and i only wanted to do it with look. I'll give the montana situation. I was almost all the way done. I almost really all the way done. And her. she and her husband came to town. I had no clue who they were. They take a. We know one of the group classes with the pros and afterwards they think too i think and she and her husband mark who i love as well comes with a k. Can we get a private. And i thought the private was going to be for him And i was against your house. I come up to the boulder school see and he was like okay. You know. and he's gets for her. I was like oh great. Can you be our partner. And he's like yeah no problem and we do it. It was good It was fine. They asked me how much i said. Nothing i don't take money for private lessons. he'd call. He texted me later. He's like hey coach i. I don't know how to ask this. Because i want another private lesson but i don't want to feel like i'm taking advantage coupe. It was great. I really enjoyed my time. So let's do it you know and we do another private lesson And then two days later. Tax me goes. Hey will you be your head. Coach house like man. Just when i was out. You know how i i back. Never i never even coached a female. Mma fighter before right. I wasn't even sure that i wanted to do it. it has been such an amazing experience so but because it works like we are on a life journey together You know my my. I have a young jujitsu athlete. Who she's been with me since she was like fifteen or sixteen years old on a life journey together we just had you know. I have meetings with my athletes. We just had a meeting. It was barely any to talk. It was life things that were going on You know where do you wanna be in ten years. Where do you want to be in three years. Every morning. they have the texts me. Who are they. What does it mean to be then. I think it's the most important question that any human has to know the answer to. Who are you when you say i am. What's the next word What are the next you know. I have five but what the next words that come. After i am. What does it mean to be you and when you understand this your Your golden You i think. We've all seen that clip of habib talking to dana white in be on the stool in between rounds and he's asking dana for title fight and it's in between rounds of a fight. davis man. You.

"It's it's that's changer. Your life money You're going one hundred percent now. You don't have to buy it but i think we're gonna see more of these celebrity type things do the polls are smart. They're very smart They're not stupid. They're making millions. Do amazing right. They're making millions of dollars. They're not dumb now. Where does it go from here. You just cornered this past weekend. Yeah i only have a couple of fighters and i liked to work very very very closely with my matthew. You like corner. Do i like cornering. I love work. I love going on the human experience with people. I'm as i love. I love being the. Obi wan kenobi of someone's life better being a spectator. It's not even that. I just love being really close with my with people. Like if i'm at a stage in my life where In this martial arts world of coaching I have all. I have my students. You know. I see them weekly Every week like at my at the schools and You know at our schools where i teach every tuesday thursday. I'm there all day long teaching As far as the one on one level of coaching m may energy to. I'm at a point. Where a you have to want all of my smoke. I have to all of yours. The skillful in the unskillful and The good and the bad and we have to click and when we when we and when we click. We can do amazing things. So that's where i am. I don't do. I refuse to attach my dollar to my. Our refuse won't do it so what fighters he working. I have professional In i have montana dellarosa and i have drew dover jitsu i have some people that you probably haven't heard of but are on their way up. You know right now. Drew fought this past weekend. Yeah look good. Fight of the night you said via the fight of the night. Yeah where does it go from here for him. We'll talk monday. Oh today's monday. We'll talk no insight I haven't talked to him yet. I try not to talk the day like you know the the day after a fight the day the night after fights very unskillful. Talk right especially after you lose two motions filled with emotion. It's filled with a whole host of things so i don't like to talk afterwards. You know i like to look. We're gonna talk. We all talk but then like but with with the understanding that we're gonna talk more later When when we have some we've had some time to think and reflect and Let let the emotion of the situation calmed down a touch. And i had montana fight the week before so i went back to back weekends. So yeah now. Do you do the same in a win as you do in a loss taking the time. Yes so she got time yes she so. I'm a little more involved with her. I would say I was. I was almost all the way out when she when she came and it was a you know it was a it was a weird thing right and now now it's it's it's interesting because you you. You start cornering and i imagine as a coach and somebody with your lineage in legacy being having had that experience everything else that comes with it being a success. It's hard for you to say no to a lot of people. How do you weed out..

"A certain point yeah pay pay pay. Pay a man for his work right. Pay a woman for her work if you so what should not an early prelims prelims card guy begetting if they're negotiating properly. What do i think they're gonna get. Yeah what do what do you think. Fifty and fifteen fifteen fifty. A preliminary fought three times a year. You had the ability to make three hundred grand by that by that. And i'm saying guys everybody. Listening prelims card guy is probably ten fights eight fights down the card. Okay and and that's that that makes sense to me. what does what does the. What is the fifteenth ranked wide receiver in the league. Make well they're gonna make millions right but the minimum the minimum in the nfl right so hold on so so that's fifteenth-ranked right is millions. What is the third string wide receiver make on a team. Yeah seven hundred grand six hundred grand and the league minimum at least a little more like the backup. Punter makes the league minimum right. Well i mean the lease so the nfl league minimum. I just looked it up. A six hundred and sixty thousand right so part of what. These unions negotiate is their minimums drug testing time off when many camps are things like that You know beyond that you know. Those aren't bad contracts. Like i said a three a lot of people think athletes make unlimited money. And i want. I want to preface this so people understand it a three year. Let's the average time span in the nfl short. But let's say let's say a three year contract is for six one point. Eight million two million dollars would all the bells and whistles. People here that in the and i want to put it in perspective people here then the that's crazy money. You know after you pay the agent after you and you brought up. That's important and having real agents in the business real support. I get guys coming to me. They're like can you help me find deals. You know what i mean. And i'm like you're in the fucking you have. You should have deals coming out of your ass. I think a way to fix it through the sponsorships. I think that's another angle to fix it. Well that will make it better. But that's an agency job that now becomes the athlete. But there's a way even record them. So i think there's a way even for the sea to play that in to give people the opportunity to have a sponsor but you need someone to negotiate on the on the one hundred percent but i think in the walkout there could be like we put a velcro patch. So you can. Cause that's where the money is. What do you mean in the walkout. Manscaping is all over the cage. Last week in the fighters didn't see any of that money right you the fighters to go fight one hundred percent so so the fighter should be scanning manscaping and bud light and every other thing. That's on that cage. The fighter should be all getting a piece of that. Not just the venom deal. But i think i think a path to fix it a little bit. If we're talking about how to fix it did they can come up with something on the uniform that make sense to allow the fighter to dangle that carrot to i agree with you but you need but i know what you're saying. I'm trying to find counterbalance right. But you need somebody to represent all of the fighters because you can't help it when when you like that when you're aging right mike my agent my agent represents me just like in the. Nfl represents me his job is to go..

"They have every right to fire you right but they have to pay out your contract. Well that's it depends so i can use the iron rogers example. What aaron rodgers is doing right now. So aaron rodgers is waiting it out now. The risk our aaron rodgers as. Let me listen to pay him no way. They don't pay you. I'm gonna give you the good and the bad and what you just because you're right you're not wrong but there's so. Aaron has one year left on his contract with the green bay packers. He can sit out yes the whole year. Yes because like ocho cinco said and everybody said there's no guarantee on that contract. They could cut me right. There's no guaranteed guaranteed some because some people take that whole approach of but you are under contract. Okay it's it's a it's not a guarantee it's a it's a credible contract hold on. Not his is not his he. I'm gonna get to that. Yeah been paid. His guarantee has he has guaranteed money as forty million in guaranteed money. But he's been paid that they can go back to him and fight and say he reneged at that point where he's at pro rated the forty million the one year right. What's what is that aaron rodgers. Now nothing he could be a fine me. Pay me Whatever sumi for ten million. What's going to be a ten million dollar check when he's gonna sign a deal for one hundred right so to him. It's like whatever so there. Is that opportunity to do that. And i think this is just my theory elliott. I think that guy's could go to those types of like did there has to be a strong group. That says i'm not gonna fight on his contract. Okay the is that a dangerous standoff. Absolutely the problem is what we talked about earlier when i first walked in People love to watch fights the amount you're hundred the promotion doesn't need you. they'll just put these shoots. We'll make this person star so so you know the story. Wwe trying to get a a union. And i'm going to get to the union guy topic was they went to hogan and hogan didn't wanna do why chris hogan was making the most money and hogan didn't want to unionize. They needed him to do it now. I'm going to take the good and the bad. What unions in sports not all players unions are strong the nhl players unions notoriously. We terrible notoriously week in the nfl. The owners rule everything though the players union has some power. But the there's no question that the owners controlled the nfl have sixty percent of the of the revenue. Right now. yeah well y- yes and no. There's a lot woven into that in the nfl now because of the way the retirement works. And they've beefed that up and i agree that's one of the weaker points of the ufc. But how and i'm asking. I'm not how do you transition the ufc to a retirement type program. I don't know yeah. I mean i don't know either that's why i'm asking. I don't know. I just would like to see the fighters get paid now. I have seen what i would like to see before them. Getting and i use air quotes..

"I think you're starting to get their starting to get a style from my opinion at the end of blue into purple And then you hone your style in purple. I accept that. That's that's acceptable. Thanks i appreciate without a you. I'm not not yours in full disclosure. I always say you know. I'm no one to take Advice from i. Just kind of have the microphone. And i from the refs so i got a microphone so i can say what i want so no deal your apps you just said is correct everybody do not recommend going your coaches and saying hey i think i'm a fucking black belt. I think you can have that structured conversation. There's a way there's a way where it's matter now aside from run. The gyms dealing with belt issues running a business is not easy in having business partners. Multiple business partners is not easy. It's not something out you balance still being a coach and running all the businesses. I mean i don't have to run the business. I have a see we have. We have see we have two vice presidents. We've vp's we we have to distance yourself. Just enough you create systems you create systems and then look this is where people mess it up pay You pay people and you pay people well to free. It's a good mindset. I mean not. Everybody has it. You know that. I don't have to tell you you. You know that some people you know business owners they choke the business and there's people that are two free to loose that that let the business run wild and especially in a gym that has the ability as you not come off the rails really quick do you have. Pnl's i mean like if you want to you have to run it like a business. It like like jim like do you. Do you know how much money you're making and losing every month. what's the revenue. What's the what's the toilet paper cost you. What what what margins are you working at What margins are you working at like. This is such an important thing. What should people be paying a month for. Jujitsu where are they. Let's say new jersey one fifty a month. Is that the going average. I don't mean we charge two hundred. I think i don't even know what the nra charges two hundred two hundred two hundred two hundred. I think extreme charges one fifty Where we don't even know what average going rates we don't teach jujitsu. We don't pay at my school for you pay.

"The goal. Now how do you go from starting the school to where you are now so it already started. I bought in two small schools. And we i did too big ten thousand square foot schools where we add in kickboxing programs And now how do you go You do it with people You create a vision right like what is it that. Where do we want to go. Wha- what is the northstar what are we pointing at And then from there you make a set of core values then from your core values and core values. Something that you will lose friends and money over Right so they're so money and money can not get in the way right. So and then you systematize got. This is how we do our front desk and this is how we do this so that. Excuse me i am the owner right. I'm the colonia with a mall. I can't be at seven schools. It's not possible so if we want them to work skillfully incorrectly. You need strong teenage strong team. So then how do you get a strong team. You pay you. I get everyone around a set of values. You get everyone around. I and i'm sorry not about. Its first you'd everyone. This is where we're going. Do we all agree. Yes okay this is these are. These are the values that we live. We will never violate these. Do we all agree. What are the values integrity stewardship. And why am i thinking. Why am i missing. The last one integrity beggarly stewardship would ship safety safety. What the fuck. I can't remember the last one. There's one more one more so you instill the do instill these values. Do you look for them. We start slow. Everyone starts in a low position and then we work up but look our values the reason. I can't remember them because our values are not written on the wall. This is one of the things that i think people mess up as they go. Here's my values and they write them on the wall and then they go. These are my you know. And then they go but those are the company's values are those are my values. The way i see it in the way we see it. Is that if you talked to a student. That's been with us for a year. They will describe if you came in and said. Hey what are the core values of this school they might not say integrity stewardship safety blah blah blah. Right like the but they'll start to describe them Does that make sense They'll start okay. Yup oh and then you'll be like safety up. Yep stewardship yep yeah whatever. It is Excellence i'm sorry accessible. Yeah.

"Gary v will be like. Hey you're twelve and your mother's against you start a business leave the house like i. I don't necessarily agree with. I don't think he's he's like you're twelve. Start a business yeah. I think it's convenient for him to take some of the takes takes on things. But you know i don't wanna get revisionist history on gary v. Gary you started out with a million dollar business that his dad ran so people kind of forget. The the gary v's dad was was very good in the wine business. He had had had a wine company and he gets. He has the ability to take these. Radicalized takes on things because of the position. He's in now. And i've seen some of his candid conversations and i don't know what's shock value versus real value. You know some things just aren't certain realities for people like you know you've seen the clip. Sometimes someone will be like you take care of my grandmother. And i can't do and it'll be like oh you just got to hire someone to take care of her and you got to focus on your business. He gets a little radicalized with some takes on some things in for sure. I think you have to just keep it about the simple basics like you got a degree. Gary got a degree. I got a degree i. I'm not going to sit here and be a guy who says after the degrees completely worthless. There's there's a place for learn like i tell people all the time. One thing i learned from school is is how to interact with people in all different kinds of people. And you're gonna get that at a major college at a at a boulder. Atta at umass where i went where you're going to sit in a room with one hundred people and you're gonna learn about a lot of different people. College gives you a break from adulthood right. There's there's a gap because you're really not ready right at eighteen years old. You're not ready to mo- most of us are not ready to go out and have to be really ultra responsible. Now you get in the cage. You start your fighting. When does the cage because my wife said one night i was taking a shower and she was like this working at a job at the bar. That's really cool in this jitsu stuff's really cool and all but like and i've always said i was gonna fight and she goes all but let's fight or let's get a job right. He was like well. Fuck job so you end up when when do you when does it start coming together in the. Ufc comes into the mix. I got on the ultimate fighter ultimate fighter so at that point of you like i made it probably. Yeah probably but with which is the wrong mentality right but like i always ask every guest. When was the moment when you felt like okay. I can make a living us right there. Right yeah right there. I quit the job at the bar. Yeah so now. it's all fighting and that's a big leap mental. It's not guaranteed guaranteed. So you take that giant leap You making next to no money no money. It's no money you're making no money you at what point during your fighting career. Do you have that moment where you're like. I have to parlay this monetize..

"You're a c. student all the way. You're you're a blue blocker type person colleges and what what i would say to my child my unborn child. I would say go. Just learned to get in the car and have a destination. You have to go. Yeah but why not a trade school. No that's fine too. Whatever like you. i'm i'm very mission. Orientated like you are have. I agree with that mindset but i think kids who just say no. I'm not going to do anything. Might thing comes back to what you said. Which is okay. Don't do anything but the summer after you're eighteen you're gone. You're out but if you do this. I'm going to give you a little room right because you're trying and you're learning and you're if you tell me data i i hate school. I don't wanna go on. i'm gonna go to trade school. I wanna learn how to be a plumber. I'm going to say fine. That's great. But i need you to learn how to do your own laundry. Anisur learn how to write a check to pay your rent. I need you to learn how to get out of bed because you have to be somewhere and if you prove to me during the journey that you did those things but you failed ad. I'm okay with that but you tried it and you understand what it means to get up and do the dishes. They are going to look at mom differently. They're gonna look at dad differently and they're going to have a little bit better respect for the process. I know her way off topic here. But i i believe all that shit starts way earlier. My kids get up only do the laundry. They do the dishes. I have a seven and eleven year old and that kids started when my when my youngest was three years old. You're lucky now. i'm not lucky. No not lucky well. How many dishes do you think. Broken all of them. I have to. It'd be easier for me to do the dishes right. It's easier for me to do the dishes then to Know simon that goes there. We went over this yesterday. Right right like it's easier for me to do it but now i don't have to do that right now. I don't have to do that. it's will you do. Everyone's complaining in america right now. Like all the kids. The millennials man. It's not their fault. We no no. I agree with you that you're we're the ones who raised that. I think college. Like i said the laundry might be metaphorical but i think you learn something and we're on the same page and i don't want to get off topic but i think the college thing is important to address that we both agree. You don't need it but can you learn something from it. Yes of course yes going out now today. Like i don't necessarily agree with the charlie kirk mentality which is like you don't need to go to school at all or how. Sometimes you know..

"Things and he's a smart guy. We got the one and only eliot marshall. I'm smart Your everything man. That was raising your everything. I appreciate you Popular demand casey halston got fascinating was the popular. Oh i think it's i think it's amazing. Now listen i wanna get into. I want to get into this little bit with you. Yes you have an interesting journey i do. What is it about coaching like. Why when you transitioned out of fighting was an instantly to get into coaching. I know this obvious answers. But you're successful at it. I wanna i wanna get. What drove you to be a coach. I had amazing people in my life. that shifted it You there's a weird thing with life say right like for the first eight to ten years your parents are all you need right like your parents take care of you. They provide everything from you for you. They protect you. They protect you from the world and they give you the world but then something happens to every human right between eight and let's say twelve and they need other people their parents can't do it for them they other people that are gonna steal their life and really influence them and for me because of my upbringing. Excuse me upbringing background. It wasn't pierce peers. Didn't do it for me It was coaches and teachers in my life that did and so what better way to pay that back then to just try to give it back. It's interesting because coaching some that. People easily go to. but they're not easily successful at what is it about the mindset that you need to change from when you're in the ring to coaching to be successful it's so hard right like Everyone told me when i started as well getting into podcasting crazy your credit you well. I'm so used to being interviewed as the athlete. It's about you you talk about you when you're the athlete It's the same thing when you go from athlete to coach. It's no longer about you like it has to all be focused on the athlete. So the idea of the famous coach with you know all of these things that that we can see it. Just he gets in the way of real coaching like the rocky mickey story or something just some dude who owns some small piece of shit. Jim in philadelphia right. That's all it was. It was a hole in the wall. Piece of shit jim. He wasn't trying to be coach of the year right right..

Jim eliot marshall casey halston philadelphia ten years twelve eight jim first eight one rocky mickey
