"A wicked world does not like anyone. WHO SHEDS A light? They the Bible says they loved darkness rather than light. And when this wicked world has someone like you, if you if you if you dare to take the challenge. This is my message today. Are you up for the challenge? This wicked world does not like someone like you or someone like me telling them what they're doing is sinful. They don't like that they don't want you shine in that light on them and they will hate you for doing it. They don't understand that the light has nothing to do with us. It's the way it is we're telling me how it is, and so they blame us a wicked world does not like anyone who would cast a light on their wickedness. In fact, you take a look at first king's chapter eighteen for seventeen. Look what the Bible says here. Then it happened when a had saw Elijah's story, they can read through this long story they're of how a had had been looking for logic God protected. Elijah from a AB and finally sees Elijah, and this is what he says and they have said to him. Is that you he couldn't believe he was he what he was shocked and and pleasantly surprised that he that he actually had found allies. This is what he says. It happened when they have Elijah that he had said to him is that you? Owe trouble earlier of Israel. Look at that is that you you trouble or of Israel? Trouble, of Israel Elijah was a larger didn't have the power to stop the rain. He only had the power to stop the rain as God gave him that power. God is the source God is the authority. Lied you wasn't troubling. Israel God was doing that alike, it was just minding his own business when God spoke to him and said, this is what I wanted to do. This is what I want you to proclaim. This is what I want you to say because this is what I'm going to do. So Elijah says, this is what God's GonNa do. There's going be no more rain God will tell me when it's going to be rain and when I say so it'll rain but he lied you was not free afraid to stand with God and he got blamed for what God was doing. So it is with you and me isn't it don't we get blamed. Don't people hate Christian Christianity troopers they true Christianity. Because of what we stand for. I didn't make up the I didn't make up the Ten.

"It's mind-boggling. Ends by saying, but the people answered him not a word. They were not willing to make a choice. They were not willing to choose this day who they were going to serve. Saint of God friend. Fo. Whoever it is this listening to me right now. Choose. Choose who you're going to serve and serve them serve them if bail is God if the gods of this world are God, then serve them if Jesus Christ is God, then serve him and Elijah, it's interesting because when you read through this story, you will find. That he lied you came on the scene and he introduced us by prophesying that there's not going to be rain. Until he says so. This is what God told him to say alleged. Didn't dream this up Elijah didn't decide. Just hold back the rain. Elijah felt from God God spoke to him and he lied to turn to the people and he said thus saith the Lord not going to rain three and a half years until I say. So because God's going to tell me when it's GonNa rain and I'll tell you So he just simply. Told everybody what God set, but I glider gets blamed for the drought doesn't that sound the Christianity today doesn't it sound like the more you try to live for God, the more you get blamed for having the wrong attitude for being judgmental for being for being that you dare say something sin how Judgmental Awo made you what do you think your perfect? Christianity is simply being blamed for what God told us to proclaim. It's not US I have I didn't create hell. I didn't create heaven. God did that. He created the heavens you created hell. I'm not the one going to be sitting at the white throne judgement deciding who goes to heaven and who goes. That's not going to be my choice. That's God's. And so all we can do right now is tell you what he said and how he said you have to live and what he says is wrong and what he says good we're just telling you what he says now.

"She went away. She did according to the word of Elijah and she said, and she and her household eight for many days. The bene- flower was not used up nor to the jar oil run dry according to the word of the Lord which he spoke. By Elijah. Now. That's how supposed to be accepts life is good and then it gets awful. And then it gets good but it gets awful again. My friend when you make it through the trial, you're going through today. Rejoice in the victory but don't think the next trials not come in. Because verse, Seventeen tells us it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick and his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in wait a second you mean. After I did what I did for God my son dies. I took God's prophet in I gave the last bit of oil. I. Had I appreciate the blessings in the all up and my thanks for that is that my Sundays? I'll tell you somethin'. The last problem you had is not your last problem. The. Last hardship you faced that's not your last hardship. Because life is awful then as good then it's awful again, but it gets good again and sometimes it's just mundane. Sometimes, we just keep going through the motions and then it gets good and then it gets awful and then it gets good. Again, we don't live for this life we live for that life and in that life, there's no awful days. She said to a lodge in verse eighteen. What have I to do with you what am I doing? I've seen people come to church they want God to fix their life. I've seen some things get fixed up and then things go wrong like they always do. And then they stand back and say, why am I, bothering Why do I come to church? Why have I given my time? Why did I spend time in prayer? Studied, the were where did it get me? Nowhere, still got issues I still got problems. My life is still messed up. This is still wrong and that's still wrong as she said, Elijah one of I to do with you what good are you?.

The prophecy that he prophesied came to pass. And there was no rain..

Behold the Glory of God (Ezekiel 8:4)

"Ezekiel Chapter Eight Verse Four. And Behold the glory of the God of Israel was there. Like the vision that I saw in the valley. The Reason I read this verse is because will this this whole Chapter Ezekiel Chapter? Eight Is Basically, a tour and sense. That God takes Hezekiel on and God shows he is equal all what's called the great abominations that God's people were committing against him all of their sins described over and over again as abominations. But the reason I read verse four one elitist to pray according to behold the glory. God of Israel. Poll the glory of the God of Israel was there like the vision that I saw in the valley the whole picture here is that Ezekiel sees. Such a clear contrast between God in all of his glory in all of His Holiness and all of his splendor and beauty and purity. Imperfections. And that enables him to see. How horrible? These abominations are the sins are against God. Like when we see the glory of God, the more we know the holiness of God, the more we will hate, send the more. We will see how serious sin is. So, if we ever find ourselves being casualness in things since no big deal. It is. Definitely, an indicator that we have lost sight. Of How glorious God is. The more we see. No God for who he truly is the more we will hate sin in our lives and see it as the abomination that it really is, and so we pray God. Help, US. We want to see and know your glory more and more and more and more. We're GonNa all throughout Ezekiel and. Other places bidding your word recently an X. thirty three and thirty four and I kings nineteen. We we praise you for these demonstrations of Your glory revelations of Your glory that you gave to. Disciples did in the New Testament we praise you for the picture we have of Your glory in Jesus on the words of scripture in the words of scriptures. So we praise you for your glory and we say we want to see and know your glory more and more today got opener is wider. The Likeness of the Glory of the Lord (Ezekiel 1:28)

"Ezekiel Chapter One verse Twenty Eight. Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain. So was the appearance of the brightness all around. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. and. When I saw it, I fell on my face and I heard the voice of one speaking. This. This is such. A good verse at the end of a fairly confusing chapter like you. You read through Ezekiel. Chapter One and your head might be spinning like trying to put all this imagery together. But part of the picture here is is exactly what Verse Twenty Eight is saying Ezekiel is seeing the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord and he is in awe he's over while I'm T- can't wrap his mind completely around it, and that's just the likeness of the glory of the Lord. In recent days I've been an. Exodus chapter. Thirty. Three next chapter thirty four when God reveals himself to Moses and I kings chapter nineteen when God reveals himself to Elijah but neither Moses or Elijah can see like behold the fullness of the glory of the. Lord. So they get like a partial view. So to speak much like we see here in Hezekiel at the appearance of the lightness of the glory of the Lord to all this to say like we see this all throughout scripture God's glory displayed described and all kinds of ways that all lead to all. That's exactly what happens. In. Excess Chapter Thirty Four. It's exactly what happens in I. Kings Nineteen. It's what happens here in Ezekiel Chapter one about Isaiah chapter six like whenever anyone sees like the lightness of the glory of the Lord there on their faces it's all over revelation and then so in light of all that, I just want to remind us where all scripture is headed revelation chapter twenty, two, verse four hundred scripture. All history is headed toward the day when the Bible says, we will be fully free from sin and sorrow and sickness and suffering and death, and all the. Hard things in this world. and. We will be with God. He will be with us and verse four and Revelation Twenty Two five of the most beautiful words in the Bible they will see his face. Clean I want to encourage this hope today like one day we're GonNa Behold the glory of the Lord. And so today in view of that day, like open up the Bible Ezekiel Chapter One and all kinds of places and here this one speaking. Ezekiel says when I saw, the light is to the glory of the Lord I fell on my face. I heard the voice of one speaking like pictured when you open up the Bible the God of the Universe whose glory you could not. Be Able to see in this world, he is speaking to you. Like I was at the coast recently, I'm looking out over the horizon seeing this what looks like an infinite expanse of sea and sky and I've got my Bible open and I realized the God who created this is speaking to me. He's listening to me as I'm praying he loves me cares for me and I just want to pray that over you. Oh, God a pray that every single person listening right now with no one that your glory is beyond our comprehension. That, there is no way. We can even imagine your greatness and your beauty and your splendor, and you're wonder God re pray that you would help us never ever ever to be casual with you to have a small view of you. CAN GIVE US A. Glorious view of yourself up to realize that your glory even likeness of Your glory would bring us to our faces in off. And and sends does cowdery pray that you would. Make us a people who spend time. On our faces before you. In all of you. And then to open your word. And hear US speak to us. God May, we never cease to be amazed by. Your love for us. By your voice in our lives. By. Your care for us you're listening to us you the Creator. Glorious God. Overall you are listening to us right now you're with us your spirit dwells in. God, we are in awe. and. We pray you help us to live with the sense of odd and to love your word as the one who's speaking to us and God. We pray that you would kind of form us more and more and more in the process. To. A likeness of Jesus just like second. Corinthians three says beholding Uruguay Laurie transform us our lives. From one degree of glory to another, make us more and more holy. Make us more and more loving. Make us more and more like you. We pray. In Jesus name.

"When I came and I've said this over and over again, you've heard my testimony too many times probably I was an alcoholic and I was a drug addict and they loved me took me in and said I was welcome in Church and brought me to the altar and let me pray and worship with them just like everybody else and Jesus looked at me and I told him I, loved him and he told me he loved me and he said you know what else I love you too much to leave you in this condition. started. Transforming me changing me into his beautiful image. One thing Elijah had that we must develop. And that is this the Bible says of Elijah that he prayed earnestly. Earnestly. Raid Earnestly, and he prayed that it might not rain on the Earth by the space of three years and six months, and then he prayed again and the heavens gave rain and the earth brought forth her fruit he prayed don't let it rain and he prayed earnestly and got hurt him. Now I want to talk to you about the difference between what we might think of Elijah and us, and this is the only difference is there if there is any difference and it is that he prayed earnestly if I can get any of us to do anything to draw closer to God and be used by God it is this one thing be earnest prayer. I didn't say a prayer like a prayer a someone that praise. Be someone that prays earnestly explain where that word earnestly comes from so that you can understand what kind of prayer warrior we should be number one earnestly comes from A. Greek word that means to be sincere and with intense conviction. Pray with sincerety and with intense conviction conviction. Well, conviction is a firmly held belief. You are your convictions, what you firmly believe, and so pray with intense belief or opinion, and then the Hebrew that word means to be set apart or suited for the offering of a prayer..

The first part of that the new King James Version says that he was a man with a nature like ours. And then of course, the King James Version says the way some of US might. More readily recognize it. Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are. Like passions that means all the things you struggle with. All the temptations you fight. So Elijah. All the hardships you struggle with. So there were great great people in the Bible and what happens is we tend to read about these people and we put them on a level up here while we're on a level down here. Have you ever have you ever done that read about how great these people are and how magnificent they must have been? But I want to remind us all of one thing. Every one of these people who were ever used by God for whatever reason they were used no matter how great it was. We're just that. People. They were people. With all the hangups that you and I have how many of you have hangups. We all have hang ups and the devil's job, and the fleshes job is to rob you of your ability to be used by. God. Because of your hang ups and I'm here to tell you you're hangups cannot stop God from a cop pushing his will and his purpose in you. Can't stop God. So Elijah story begins by. Actually, introducing the state of affairs in Israel things were very bad in Israel. During the time of Elijah Elijah came on the scene when for a number of years two. Hundred Years. Actually. The great kings of of David and Solomon had passed away in the kingdom was divided and everything was downhill from there. Division always causes us to go downhill we need to be united. Let's be united. Let's be in one mind and one accord but the kingdom divided and evil kings came to the throne and some two hundred years had gone by and ahead K- may have might be one of the most wicked kings that ever sat on the throne probably one of the most evil of them all. and. One of the reasons he was so evil is he was influenced by an evil woman..

"The family of Elijah MacLean has filed a federal civil rights suit against the city of Aurora, Colorado, You'll remember he was the unarmed 23 year old who died in police custody last summer. Colorado Public Radio's Alison Sherry reports on the latest developments in the case. The incident that led to Elijah McLane's death started with a call to 901 reporting a quote, sketchy looking individual. Police stopped McLane, who is African American. As he was walking home from a convenience store. McClain's family lawyer, Mari Newman, a rural police officers stopped, Elijah grabbed him tackled him to the ground and over the course of the next 18 minutes inflicted multiple types of excessive force against him. McCain wasn't suspected of any crime. In the altercation that followed. Officers put him into karate holds and kept him pinned to the ground. Paramedics who arrived on the scene, then injected him with ketamine, a sedative. His family's lawyers allege the dose was too much for his £143 body size. He I'm sorry I can't skip over that phrase, but I didn't plan on one occasion. Not a special occasion. Just, just any old Sunday morning. Any old Monday afternoon. You know on one occasion. He would give them the instructions that would really explained to them his kingdom in a way they'd never seen. Any David the greatest promise of the greatest gift that they would ever. That they would ever know. Okay on one occasion. We'll have to go a little faster than this if we're going to get through it on one occasion while he was eating with them. This is Jesus eating with his disciples. He gave them this command. Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift. Wait for the gift. My father promised what you've heard me. Speak About for John Baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days you will receive the greatest gift, and it's not gonna come in the form of a car. But then this this, this is the part I want us to jump from today and we have. We have a lot of ground to cover, but from here then they gathered around him and asked him. Here's what they wanted to know. He's speaking about the gift that he wants to give them the holy. Spirit he's already died on the cross risen from the dead. What Have We Learned From Elijah Wald's Escaping The Delta

"It's time to let it roll. This is your host Nate Wilcox and we're doing a special. What have we learned episode once again with my friend and colleague Dr? Larry Campbell Yuri welcome back. Good to be here can't get good so today. We're GONNA. Look back on. Elijah Wald's book escaping the Delta and my interview that we did with him. and. We picked us up this book in that episode because. Other than Ed. Ward who basically taught me everything I. Know about analyzing music is a cultural history. Elijah Wald's books, this one and how Beatles destroyed rock and roll, which we'll talk about the next episode of what have we learned. Really expanded my mind because it took. It's a revisionist take on what has been disagree romanticized history of Robert Johnson, and the Delta Blues and found walls attempts to reevaluate Johnson. From the perspective of his peers and contemporaries, basically the black African that African American Blues Fan of the Nineteen Thirties and. Rather than from the perspective of generally white blues, fans of the nineteen sixties to now so it just totally blew my mind I tried to capture that to great interview. But the main point that the book put across that Robert Johnson was just a human being who sang and played beautifully. He wasn't a mythical figure. That probably wasn't really devil at the crossroads he wasn't. A country Bumpkin? He was a sophisticated sharp-dressed cat who travelled widely who listen to all kinds of music, not just what he heard live in the delta, but listen to the radio listener guards and learn so having said all that. How do you think we did did did I get that across in the interview with walled? Yeah, I think the book and the interview with Wall. You know Really, helps a flesh out. You know the the basic ideas that you were just talking about. And really helps to make it clear. that you know the blues artists of the late Twenties and early thirties in the early twenties really. Physically people that they were professionals. That they were participating in You know the creation of. New Cultural forms new sort of musical expressions. While at the same time. trying to freeze their audiences. Who had know? Fairly sophisticated demand and varying labs. Right so that the artists themselves as you suggested had to have A. Wide ranging set of skills, they had to have been aware of those sort of traditional musical expressions, and you know like in the case of the blues, things like Hollers and loans, and that sort of thing well also being aware of of popular music. Which by the nineteen thirties you're talking about. Artists like Duke. Ellington and Louis Armstrong and and People that are appearing in films on the radio, etc.. And so the picture of Blues. As this sort of backwater expression. Rural Culture Coming from people who were simply oppressed and trapped and you know on some level were expected to the ignorance. And poverty stricken just didn't hold you know I mean. You couldn't can be successful blues artists if you travel the country and rags. showed up at. Various venues unable to relate to modernizing audiences. And I think I think the book captures that really well. and. I thought your interview with Wall. Made that clear.

"My name is Ellie Elijah door deck. And born and raised in Chicago. And though I thought I would go to MIT and being engineer. I decided to dedicate my life to education. And for the past thirty plus years have been Educator Administrator in a textbook author. My books are used by thousands of students every day. Where I used a special technique to present text, which mimics how you would say the text like a song. And this approach has been very successful. and Um, my love of technology never left me. So now in the C O of Shannon Lee which is a start up. In Jerusalem. where, we seek to leverage speech recognition. To make educational content. Interactive. Interesting tell us a bit more about Shannon Lee than that. What does it do exactly WHO's full? What kind of students and what problem is specifically looking to solve with the APP? Yes of course. So. As I said, Shanley was established through. Our educational approach to make text as close to a viable living experience as could be right now. Much educational content is I would say dumb. And Deaf Noord that doesn't speak although this is changing. Amazing. Companies like Trinity. They're making plug ins to make much content. Audio and you can hear it. But We're looking to do it. More of a line by line approach to go into the text in make an interactive that the student can listen to the text line by line and get familiarity. In order to help gain fluency in reading. And improve memory because their memories, not just but also audio. It's the most natural way for us to communicate. To listen. The users could be. Regular kids that are already learning to read. Or even we have successful use cases with a special ED students. That, use the format to listen to the text in practice the second part. Of It is. Tested by the APP. As I said. Much of the content doesn't. Isn't it responsive? We just look at it or we asked the students to click on something or to. Drag a picture to something else, but to ask them to speak the answer to repeat. What should be said the text involved. That has not been applied so much to this area, so we WANNA make. looney experience more exciting, more alive. I really like to. Address something that as a teacher I feel sort of guilty that. In the past, the favorite student of the teacher teacher's pet would be the one that would sit quietly in have beautiful handwriting. Why was that? Because the teacher, they were the easiest student to manage and they. Gave over their answers. Their assignments with beautiful handwriting is easy to mark, so it was easy for the teacher. As time went on and computers entered the classroom. We said Oh well. We need a tea media stew that knows how to work the computer new the tech so sometimes. The geeky kid who might have been a little bit more louder and that's a well behaved with bad handwriting. He became the favourite in the former favourite student had to go. Get help as to have a use the computer. And? we we we seek, to. We seek to engage the students in ways which are comfortable for us as teachers. and it's very important to have individualized approaches for our education. In I feel it using speech. As I, said something so natural. It's the most natural way of us to relate to information as we learn two languages. We were young and to hear it in our minds and This can be then. Away that? The student can find his own voice and speak and be listen to. more exactly. Shannon Lee listens to and gives back in May immediate. real-time feedback to the answers given by the the user as to how well they were able to read the text, or if the text is not on the screen, they were to memorize the text.

You feel isolated from others, even though you may be physically nearby, you feel cloudy. It's difficult to focus, and you don't even really want. To Focus. In that moment for Lij was so bad, he felt like giving up. He questions wasn't even worth starting. Was it worth following God. And the message. That Elijah receives that moment is get up and eat. Get up and eat. Elijah here. He's not reprimanded for having these feelings. Rather God sustains him. God sustains. Let's let's get through this moment. And God sustains him by providing food. Eating is fuel for life, and the food and water come to Elijah super naturally and some of you. This is part of your story at your lowest moment when you felt like giving up. "That he is heard that he is value that he has close, and when he finishes this great moment, he looks to King a how who I'm going to argue. He was not thinking about and says you go eat. I've got this under control as an act of reconciliation towards king, a hub but Elijah's is weren't on King Ahab Elijah's is on his heavenly father. The Bible says that after King have left to go eat Elijah went up and he prayed that the rain would come. He sent his servant, one, two, three, four, five six seven times to look for cloud in the sky in during that time, the Bible says that Elijah took his head and he bowed so low. Low that he touched his knees. This was a moment of reconnection with heavenly father. This was a moment that Elijah was reconciled with his heavenly father on this great day, and the seventh time. When the servant comes back, the servants says I see a cloud in the sky. The size of a man's hand and Elijah says that is enough Elijah once again after three years feels what he had wanted to know with the connection and the love of his heavenly father. And so when a light comes running down that mountain to King a heaven, his chariot, and he says King I'm going to run in front of you. He starts taking off on that thirteen miles jogging and my guess is that Elijah was thinking about his relationship with King. A cab I believe that Elijah was thinking about his relationship with his heavenly father. Yes. He was offering acts of reconciliation to king. How'd but he was in reconciliation with his heavenly father, and when he knew who he was, he is running in front of a have not thinking that he is a servant of King. He is running thinking that he is a servant of Almighty. God and he is in relationship with God. Doing what has God has called him to do being sane acting out the plans that his God has called him to act out, and that is the strength to run thirteen miles that is the strength to submit ourselves in relationship to someone who may or may not be in Godly leadership. I think this is where many of us get trapped so many times in our relationships, looking to the left and the rights rather than looking up towards our heavenly father. I want to ask two questions as we move towards a close here and the first question is this. Who in your life. Are you most likely to complain about and if that person is sitting next to you don't need to tell them. Because they probably already know. So once you identify that this could be a spouse. It could be a family member could be a boss. It could be a CO worker, a teacher, a classmate. Who is the person in your life that you are most likely to complain about? And then secondly wear. Where are you looking to find reconciliation? And I think that when we look at Elijah and King Ahab I think this makes a world of difference I think there are many good willed Christians who look at their spouse, and they say if they just would change this if they just would act this way if they just would be more kind or more communicative than I can act in reconciliation, or they look at a boss, and they say if they would just be clearer. Forgiving then I can act in reconciliation, and we are looking to our left, and our right to find the inspiration to be reconcilers, rather than looking to our heavenly father, and Elijah says you need to look up. You need to look up because when you are, we know who you are..

"So just two weeks ago from what is tonight. They had a special five year. Commemoration at the Church in Charleston South Carolina where Anthony got up and spoke and shared his story, and his testimony of how God has provided healing in his life through this terrible terrible act, he actually finished writing a book this year about the story and the title of his book is a call to forgive. Which is fascinating? The first nine pages of the book that he wrote is a letter written to the man who committed this act. WHO's now in the state of Indiana on death row, waiting to receive his punishment, and in this letter, Anthony expresses his desire that this murderer would repent and come into right relationship with our heavenly father. And this tragedy in in Charleston that most people think would've ended with rage, anger hate violence. Ended in a way that was very unique to other shootings that have happened around our nation, because of this word forgiveness that started showing up so very quickly, and it does not if you look at it with human is. It does not make sense. It does not make sense how a man could offer forgiveness to the man who killed his wife because she was a person of color. It does not make sense that an Elijah Wood stand in reconciliation with a king who had caused so much pain, and who had caused so much sin to come into his nation. And I think many times. We're in relationships where we look at it and we do not see a path. We do not see a path towards reconciliation, and we can't figure it out and what I want to challenge you with tonight. Is I think that when we hit that wall? Too many times we are staring at the wrong. Relationship. I want to go back tonight and we'll look at the story one more time and as we do. We're GONNA. Look at this story and we're GONNA stare out a different relationship. And on the second time through I, WANNA stare at the relationship between Elijah and his heavenly father. Three years before this event. God tells Elijah be my Prophet. And I can imagine how Elijah felt when God says be my Prophet. He felt loved. He felt wanted he felt valued. He felt he had a place in the kingdom, a role as a servant of his heavenly father, and he says give prophecy there will be famine out on this land, and from that moment for the next three years, Elijah experience, nothing but pain. He was sent to have meals side. A stream of water in the stream dried up. He was sent other places where he had to hide away from King Ahab. WHO was working to kill him. Who is chasing him down? and. Elijah experienced pain after pain. Because of doing the thing, he thought he was supposed to do of what he was told to do by his heavenly father, and I believe from many parts of that three years Elijah felt out of relationship with heavenly father. And then on this one very special day on this Mount Carmel Day Elijah, praised this very short prayer to his heavenly father, and from the heavens fire comes down shooting down and consumes his sacrifice. And in this moment you might be thinking that the world is seeing that God is the God of Israel, but what Elijah is seeing is that God is the God of Elijah.

"As, we focus on our relationship with King, Ahab and Elijah. We're to skip ahead a few versus to see what happens after the rain starts coming. Because they're in that moment. A, how is up on top of this mountain with his chariot eating food as we're guessing and Elijah comes in. He says his second active reconciliation, which is this? He says goal and take your chariots down because the rain is coming, and as he says this, the rain starts to drip drip drip, and King had needs to get moving. He needs to. To be heading down the hillside, because as you can imagine driving a chariot through mud is not an ideal experience, so he starts moving away in safety, and the Third Act of reconciliation. We see is when the rain starts coming, so the rain starts coming and King. Ahab is now at the bottom of Mount Carmel and he is thirteen miles from home. His Palace was in the city of Jezreel thirteen miles away from Mount Carmel, and he is now a racing on his chariot to get back home. And! Elijah says to him I am going to come with you and I'm going to run in front of your chariot. This is a really interesting cultural expression that happens here because during this time it was very normal for a king to have a chariot, but for all of his footman, not to have a chariot, and so they would be left coming on foot behind him, but there's a safety issue, if the ruler who we want to protect, has the faster chariot, and he's out in front. The footmen can't defend him from behind him. So the practice of that time is there would be chosen footmen, the best of the best, the most trusted the most respected that would be given a place of honor to run in front of the chariot. and to lead the way as a protector as a guide as as a support to this king. Elijah takes this role on this day. And I believe if you count the acts of reconciliation. He expresses his care for his food. He says go eat he. Provides his care for his being, he says go get the chariot down the mountain before the rain comes, and then he comes into relationship with him when he says I will run in front of you. The Bible says that Elijah. took his robe, and he wrapped up around his belts, and this was part of this practice was to kind of turn. What was a robe into pants so that he could run? The Bible says that God gave Elijah a special strength for the day as a lion then takes out in this spot in front of King Ahab, and he runs eleven miles on the tail of a rain storm all the way back to Jezreel. And what this said to the people of Israel is. Is for Elijah lie to say. I am a servant of King a cab. I am in relationship with him, I am with him and he is with me. And this act of reconciliation spoke louder than words, and my question for today is why. Why was this relationship reconciled? Because in these short six, versus from verse forty one to forty five, we are witnessing a drastic relationship change between king, a how and Elijah, and for all intents and purposes it does not make sense. If you're reading the story from natural I. Know reason to believe why King Ahab and Elijah would now be a right relationship with each other. And that's we're GONNA look at today..

"The big crowd is is assembled. And Elijah. He asks a question. He asks a question as. A messenger of God. God asks the question to the people. Then who had drifted away from him and it is possible that God is asking you this question version of this question right now I kings. Chapter Eighteen Verse Twenty One. Then Elijah stood in front of them. He stands in front of the crowd. And he says how much longer will you waiver hobbling between two opinions if the Lord Has God, follow him. But if bail is God, then follow him. How much longer are you going to go on like this? Having one toe in following the true God one foot, and following the true God and the other foot in this other direction. Logic says it's not going to work. You can't go down both pass. You have to make a choice. Now the false God then was bail Ashira. We. Don't hear a lot about bail. As Shearer today, but we certainly have false gods. I found this definition of a false God and I think it's a good one. A false god is anything we highly revere, follow devoutly sacrifice for look to for meaning in life and deliverance from problems. A false god is anything we highly revere, follow devoutly sacrifice for look to for many in life and deliverance from problems. Work Sports hobbies they -CATION destinations youtubers education science sex money all of these things there's more on the list. These can be false gods, many of these things are good things when they have the right place, they become false gods when we give them higher priority than our relationship with our heavenly father. I recently heard a pastor friend. Say Tell me what you're doing on Sunday morning, and that will reveal who or what your God is. That's good. Tell me what you are doing on Sunday morning and that will reveal who or what your God. Is. What happens next in this historical account is a great showdown. Elijah tells these four hundred and fifty false prophets of the false God to set up an animal sacrifice. He says we'RE GONNA set up to authors. You you prophets of the false God. You'RE GONNA. Sit Up your alter with the animal. Sacrifice some. We're GONNA set up another one and he says you know you guys. You pick whichever one you want, you pick whichever alter you want. And Elijah says what I want you to do is I want you.

"We're GONNA see it in I kings eighteen I. Kings Chapter Eighteen back in the pages of your Old Testament. I kings chapter eighteen seventeen says this when I saw him Elijah when Ahab saw Elijah, he exclaimed a have explained so. Is it really you trouble maker of Israel? Bob King Ahab Calls Elijah the troublemaker. Ahab Blames Elijah four the trouble. It is easier to blame the Messenger. Then to try to understand what God is doing in the situation, it's easier to reject the messenger then to reject God. It's easier for a hub to heap the blame on Elijah than to actually consider that rejecting God may be the reason for the drought, maybe the reason for the trouble. It's easier to get upset or dismiss that Jesus loving person in our life who cares about us? Then to accept that. Maybe it's not the messengers problem. It's actually us. It's you and me that we need to redirect our steps to get. Off This path destruction in on God's path. I watch allied response. Remember a has just said it's. Is it really you you troublemaker of Israel illogic year the troublemaker? Here's how Elijah response I eighteen. I have made no trouble for Israel. Elijah replies. You and your family are the troublemakers for you refused to obey the commands of the Lord and have worship the images of ball in stead. Elijah. The one who came to confront not to comfort the one who is willing to say what no one else is willing to say. He's willing to say what needs to be said. Elijah says. To the one leading the rejection of God this trouble Ahab that. You're experiencing your in your life. This trouble that the nation is experiencing. It's happening not because of me, but it's because of you because you are rejecting. God. This can happen to us as well. Were confronted. It's easier to get defensive. It's easier to blame to redirect blame to someone or something else. It's easy. To launch a counter attack. It's easier to go on any of those roads and to stop and consider and take ownership. Maybe I'm experiencing this trouble in my life. Not because of what someone else says. Maybe I'm experiencing trouble in my life because of the decisions that I've made. And because of what I'm doing. Perhaps this mess that find myself in is actually. My fault. If, you're anything like me. We get most defensive. Most into this mode of. Redirecting blame blaming others. We.
