"Eko fascism ever heard of it or thought about it seems paradoxical but is it or is it a part of American history that has been there all along in an article dated August seven twenty nineteen G. Q.. Magazine yes yes G. Q.. Defined Eko Fascism as quote a belief that the only way to deal with climate change is through eugenics and the brutal suppression of migrants and quote. It's a philosophy that has roots in the American environmental movement. Dating back to the eighteen hundreds rate right down to the creation of our national park system. But let's start off with the recent events that inspired me to produce this episode on August Third Twenty nine a shooter in El Paso Texas Killed Twenty people at a Walmart near the border with Mexico. Nineteen minutes before the first nine one one call a hate filled. Anti immigrant manifesto appeared online. That was strangely called an inconvenient truth in the document the author makes his horrific case for ethnic cleansing as a solution to the climate crisis. I ask myself could. The shooter's deadly words and actions have been inspired by the rhetoric that has been spoken tweeted by the forty fifth president of the United States who has verbally attacked communities of color on more than one occasion this time. It's House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah. Cummings he wrote wrote. This Cummings district is disgusting rat and rodent infested mess. If he spent more time in Baltimore maybe he could help clean up this very dangerous and filthy place. No human being would want to live there infested usually reserved for references to rodents and and insects. But we've seen the president invoke infestation to criticize lawmakers before you see a pattern here just two weeks ago president trump to protect four minority congresswoman. Why don't they go back to the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came reminder three of them were born here all of them are or American infested? He says a week before his inauguration January two thousand seventeen congressman. John Lewis should spend more time on fixing in helping his district which is in horrible shape and falling apart not to mention crime infested. Donald Trump has tweeted more than forty three thousand times James. He's insulted thousands of people many different types of people but when he tweets about infestation it's about black and Brown people September number two thousand fourteen at the height of an urgent health. Emergency why are we sending thousands of ill-trained soldiers into IMBOULA. If Ebola infested areas of Africa bring the plague to the. US Obama is so stupid infested. He says there's a revolution going on in California. So many sanctuary areas is one out of this ridiculous crime infested and breeding concept infested. He says the President says about congressman. Cummings district that no human would would wanNA live there. You know who did Mr President I did. From the day I was brought home from the hospital to the day left for college and a lot of people put care about still do their challenges. No doubt but people are proud of their commuted. One sound self-righteous but people get up and go to work there the care for their families there. They love their children. WHO pledge allegiance to the flag? Just like people. Oh who live in districts of Congressman. Who Support You sir? They are Americans too. We'll be right back. After after the El Paso tragedy. I started reading articles that referred to the term Eko fascism. There seemed to be more than one. Example of racially motivated terrorist wrist attacks in the news from Christchurch New Zealand to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to California but none so directly connected to the climate crisis as the El Paso shooting which made me deeply concerned about the ways in which humans will react when the crisis worsens. Will it bring bring out the best in humanity or the worst. I began to think more deeply about the foundations of America. Correct me if I'm wrong but post colonial. The American history seems to be filled with examples of ECO fascist ideas and axe our very own declaration of independence refers to indigenous indigenous people of this continent as merciless Indian savages. And yet. This is still a document that we celebrate every year with a national holiday and the principles of manifest destiny. An eminent domain made way for a government led genocide children being separated from their parents put in detention centers and even killed by the American government. These practices are also not new from the slave trade to Indian residential schools. American history has already set precedence every single day that we wake up we are living out our lives on stolen land. This is our history. It's history that we shouldn't turn away from no matter how hard it is to look at it. I know this is a dark subject. But it's an important one one if we don't look directly at our shadows cells. How will we ever heal in a recent interview? In The Guardian activist writer. Naomi Klein referred referred to this concept as climate barbarism. because she connected the dots. So well I'm going to read her words here. She states quote white supremacy emerged. Not just because people felt like thinking of ideas that we're going to get a lot of people killed but because it was useful to protect barbaric but highly profitable actions. The age of scientific racism begins alongside the transatlantic slave trade. It is a rationale for that brutality. If we were going to respond to climate change by fortress seeing our borders then of course the theories that would justify that that create. These hierarchies orchids of humanity will come surging back. There have been signs of that for years but it is getting harder to deny because you have killers who are screaming it from the rooftops unquote and then Naomi speaks of the environmental movement quote when you have a movement that is overwhelmingly Wellm Ingley representative of the most privileged sector of society. Then the approach is going to be much more fearful of change because people who you have a lot to lose tend to be more fearful of change whereas people who have a lot to gain will tend to fight harder for it. I have had many many conversations with environmentalists over the years where they seem to believe that. By linking fighting climate change with fighting poverty or fighting racial justice. It's it's GonNa make the fight harder. We have to get out of this quote. Mike crisis is bigger than your crisis. I we save the planet and then we fight poverty and racism them and violence against women unquote. That doesn't work that alienates the people who would fight hardest for change unquote as middle middle class educated white women WHO considers herself an environmentalist for social justice. An ally in the struggle for racial equality and racial equity. I felt compelled up to bring the issues of Echo Fascism and environmental racism to the Isan Conservation. podcast I hope this episode shines light on our shadow selves an offers inspiration on how to move forward will start this episode with a close. The camps protest attended on August Thirty First Twenty nineteen scene in downtown San Francisco. I'm on my way down to the close the camps protest in downtown San Francisco right in front of the ICE building. This protest today is part of the month of momentum that has been a month long a series of events and protests and ways to get involved in the movement to close down the concentration camps that are are at the border of the United States and Mexico so every day when I turn on the news and I hear more stories about the conditions of the camps and the fact that children are in cages. Children are dying people are dying in the camps. I I'm I'm basically as heartbroken and petrified as I am about the climate crisis CICIS I see these both the climate craigslist and our humanitarian crisis. That's happening at the border right now. As one in the same basically the way that we're treating a world is the way that we treat ourselves and other people and eight and so I needed to do something and so I decided to come down and spend my Saturday morning here. At the close the camps is protest down at ice in San Francisco on August thirty first twenty

"And so I WANNA come back to substance for one the second that mental health stuff it's not just hey I'd like to get under trump's skin and oil like to make fun of them no it's real it's real hard Tac the guy has very significant mental health issues so when she backs away from it and says no I didn't mean his mental health you actually done a disservice here because we should be having a national conversation about his mental health his top adviser Kellyanne conway her husband wrote a nineteen page op. Ed showing the man is clearly mentally unfit for office you think he doesn't talk to his wife adviser to the president in other words they're sending on and so as somebody help the the president has lost his mind somebody help Pelosi is an opportunity to say God damn right I meant is mental health look at them and she she turns out opportunity doubt it took nine months to get an impeachment inquiry so if that's what it is happening at a snail's pace yeah God they're so timid and unfortunately the person that she now has as acting head oversight now that representative Cummings has passed away you is also reluctant conservative Democrat and she loves to put people who don't want to go after trump as the heads of committees so coming she couldn't do anything about because he had seniority and he had earned it well now she put it another lackey to slow down the trump investigations she is some of our actions in style like she gets credit for all the style Sir substantive actions against trump is wilderness we take a break when we come back we have a giant breaking news story that I can't wait to tour from Cox.

"Troops out of that area so again many questions remain unanswered anders speculation that air to one isn't actually GonNa follow through with that cease fire so when he talks about how the Kurds is the most important part he's like Oh good we've got a p seal now the cursor was strong in their participating but it's you have to remember its Kurdish territory in northern Syria so they are withdrawing from their own territory thus because they're about to get butchered and so and and they partly already that that's onto the Turkish military the Turks are they just WANNA war without having a fire another shot right they they acquired territory this is what this deal is right yeah nicest we're talking about they're gonNA roll tanks and jets and we're GONNA get pulverized and my understanding is that that as a result of this trump reverse the sanctions that he was going to put on a whole bunch of land maybe we get more lynn well there is no ceasefire right so it's really bad it's the same thing after the hundred and twenty as it is before but yeah I mean could be rolled over and over and over again by country after country after country everybody will know Edwin our stage manager knows better than US anyway on most issues but like like anyone who's spent any time about that region if you're a dentist John so he gives them an empty promise in the beginning trump like an idiot takes out our military from their roles in the tanks and the jets et cetera takes territory now the he did this sanctions imported Nardo on laughed it's like I don't give a damn about your sanctions then when trump set the crazy letter to them the one where he says if you don't do the in regard to this story and I think that it it applies to a broader issue with the trump administration at the issue of him not knowing anything in having absolutely no intellectual curiosity in regard to foreign policy but really any policy so in that long ranting video that we showed you the reason why I bring up how little he knows is because himself and his family financially well okay who in his administration is making these decisions is it the secretary of State is it Mike pompeo is it's a military hopefully conversation with the Pentagon made the decision to do a safety zone and that was a rare situation where we were actually being effective and then what happens is trump comes in like trump NATO and goes okay he didn't bother asking the State Department he didn't bother asking the Pentagon listen our government hey by the way what are we currently doing what's our current policy he doesn't even bother to ask that and then when he says we're withdrawing the ground literally called into Fox News going this is insane what are we doing. Yeah I've never been more embarrassing my life we're GonNa let these guys dying they fought with us I think the larger point is that these are delicate situations here in in in the Middle East and you know I mean in a perfect world I would draw from Middle East pretty unilaterally being affected their real way but we have these very fragile alliances fragile things that we've set up some of them working some not and when you throw like ascension in comments section into this this this mix who doesn't have really a knowledge or understanding of what the implications of the actions are so you're you're going to get bad policy out of that and you know you you can't send someone who has really no working knowledge into the most difficult and wrenching situations on foreign policy no house here Dan this that like the Bratty kid you know or the those unstable adult and I got two people at Okay and imagine that every like whatever important decisions being made either for your family or for the government earn any important situation all of a sudden instead of hey I'm consulting with my wife my uncle and it's Cetera we throw in the bratty kid and he gets to make decision what do you mean we're going to sell the house what does that I already made it I already wanted to us but we can't afford a new house what are you know it's too late I already sold it what did you see before you sold at the center for that price right like it's we cannot have the president of the United States being this deeply unstable an Unin- formed we have a mentally challenged child is our president and it's affecting the whole world and it's obviously getting people killed well there's a different angle to the story that I want to talk about it's news that broke yesterday but we can't help but discuss it so congressional leadership with Donald Trump and a closed door meeting to discuss his decision to abruptly pull US troops out of northern Syria those troops were there to protect Kurdish allies Turkish military aggression pulling the troops out lead to an all out war between the Kurds and the Turks in northern Syria now during the meeting though Donald Trump took it upon himself to do what he does best he insulted democratic leadership including Nancy Pelosi and referred to her as a third rate politician and then also called Defense Secretary James Mattis or former Defense Secretary James Mattis the world's most over rated general so at that point things got pretty heated and said that that a Nancy Pelosi decided no we're going to leave he was quite lasting so Pelosi's stood up to go she started to sit back down but representative a steny hoyer got her to go Pelosi and Hoyer walked out of that meeting or out of the meaning and so after that they had a press conference and here's what they said he was insulting particularly to the speaker she kept her all completely but he called her third rate politician he said that the they're communist involved and you guys might like that I mean this was not a dialogue it was sort of a diatribe nasty diatribe not focused on the facts when did this go south well from my perspective the meeting started off with the president walking in and slamming down his files on the able suggesting that this was a meeting he agreed to it was belligerent from the get-go on the part of the President is a meltdown sad to say I have served with six presidents I have been in many many many meetings like this ever have I seen a president treat so disrespectfully a co equal branch of the government of the United States so at one point following this trump meltdown Nancy Pelosi said quote we have to pray for his health because this was a very serious l. down on the part of the President and Donald Trump of course is going to respond to that on twitter said Nancy Pelosi needs help fast there is either something wrong with her are upstairs in quotes or she's just plain doesn't like our great country she had a total meltdown in the White House today it was very sad to watch pray for her her she is a very sick person that is so uninventive it's classic Donald Trump like a little child like Oh yeah no I didn't have a built it meltdown like there's no cleverness of the comeback I'd have a mental problem you have a mental problem don't pray for me hey you just repeated everything she just said I was so sad what I wanna know as as we were talking about what was in those files the files down on the Menendez loss of credibility he said trump slammed down the files and files really you see his desk literally has nothing on it yeah so look at this I actually think this story when you get into the substance of it is a little bit more complicated most trump stories are very simple he's an idiot he does something stupid and so in this case yes we have that but we have also more new US so first of all I don't know if Pelosi mental walkout from the moment she worked in I think she meant to agitate them and and I think that would they walked out over was relatively minor and so that's key unreal and is my real political in house okay so when Pelosi said all roads lead to Putin as she did at some point in the meeting that was clearly meant agitating under skin now I don't mind that at all politics I'm keeping a real with you or K. another and I think it's good politics if I was her state in the meeting and I would have kept burrowing read further and further under skin until he absolutely I mean that's trump losing it and it's normal trump asked me trump losing it is another level altogether so what did they walk out over he called her third grade politician so what yeah I would have preferred that she stay in the room and continue agitating him until his meltdown leads to him walking out I think that that would be more effective it would you know I think that that he's done that before I don't remember exactly what they were negotiating about but remember she got under his skin and he ended up walking out look good look for for Democratic Leadership so yeah walking out is it my favorite method of dealing with it but it does get frustrating I'm sure dealing with a child like Donald trump it has absolutely no knowledge of the topic they're even discussing negotiates incredible that it's come to the point where you have to ask yourself I what were they there to do the what what what you know deal is is to be made in this and you know the relationship between Congress and and the president is broken down so much that I don't even know what they were doing there in the first the reporting on that I I totally agree I wish we knew more but the reporting of course is going to focus on the soap opera drama part of it but there there are members of Congress who are frustrated because the executive branch is incredibly opaque when it comes to this issue and Congress needs to be informed about what's happening so that was meant to be part of the discussion and the White House has no interest in sharing that information with them so I want to be more details their first of all trump apparently sat down and said I don't even know why we're here I don't know who asked for this meeting I didn't ask for it well first of all be for the meeting you might want to ask somebody you might Wanna ask hey what's the next meeting why are we having it he always liked declares so what you know I didn't do my homework okay all right fair enough so as to what the meaning could be about the Republicans cry foul and they go oh my God we can't get the important business government done what important business of government you guys aren't pushing for anything the last I heard every once in a while trump says should you another tax cut really are we talking about what were you guys about the compromise on a on a bill or you guys GonNa do the infrastructure now that we're going to do anything so the only possible thing that they could have been that room is talking about the Kurt situation because that house just voted overwhelmingly to rebuke Donald Trump including one hundred and twenty nine Republicans so the trump partly lost it when Nancy Pelosi mentioned the vote but if you're not there to talk about the boat what are you there to talk about right and in fact only possible they could have discussed was apparently at some point in the same day the congressional leaders were supposed to get a briefing on what's actually Benin Syria because Mike Pence came out today there's a ceasefire the Turkish government came out and said no there isn't right so they are about the briefing now this was again yesterday so still though they want to know putting on the ground right and so in the White House cancelled up briefing they don't want the congressional leaders to know what's happening on the ground so there was really no point in the meaning other than yelling at each other and so I guess it was a success then yeah that's right and so but in a sense it was for for Pelosi so look I always think she's too weak now today's not a pretty good I like I just told you I think agitated him about Putin was DC strategy so God bless on that front by the way but after the enduring the press conference when they ask her hey uh-huh say it right there just so soft but what she got out of it was a picture yeah so let's talk about that I've been wanting to talk about that so donald trump decided to post photos of this closed door meaning on twitter thinking that it would you know bolster his case make him look good but it actually did it ended up backfiring so I'll give you an example here's one of them and the picture has the caption do you think they like me right and you see Democratic leader ship looking not so happy then he also posts a picture saying nervous Nancy's unhinged meltdown and it features her standing up I mean honestly as a woman that's that's a pretty incredible photo because look at her it makes her look so strong it makes her look strong she's ending up to a a group of men who are incredibly powerful so guess what she did she took that photo she used it as the background on her twitter page knows that's a really well played bless her heart on that but like but right now what are to Nancy Pelosi's to calling cars and people talking about what she did this class to Donald Trump right speech the congress which by the way I don't think she meant the risk of we I think she was just claps hey and now she's a picture where she standing there all sitting there good if she made it then I like it okay but they're not absence so the vote by the way she should get way more credit for she did a vote now the Republicans turn on trump okay but nonetheless she pulled that off as she put it language that was kind of soft but in this case I agree because the soft language didn't matter at all to the memo was congress rebukes trump that's the headline that everybody saw in the language 'cause one hundred twenty nine Republicans to say yes with her so I want ever credit for the things she does right but instead what we have is style over substance so now everybody's talking about the picture.

onto Syria lots going on there thanks to strong leadership for President Donald Trump in the strong relationship between President Air to one and Turkey and the United States of America the today the I just states and Turkey have agreed to a ceasefire in Syria Vice President Mike Pence and secretary of State Mike Pompeo have met with officials in Turkey and they have alleged that Turkey has agreed to a ceasefire now the ceasefire would take place for about one hundred twenty hours which would allow for the Kurdish individuals in that area to leave with the help of the United States to create a safe zone so Kurdish fighters now have one hundred the hours to leave a safe zone reaching about twenty miles south of Turkey's border with Syria but who cares about the details I'm giving you let's hear from pence let's hear the that he wants to give us one week ago Turkish forces crossed into Syria earlier this week president trump took decisive action to call on Turkish forces to stand down to end the violence to agree to negotiation Today I'm proud to report thanks to the strong leadership of President Donald Trump today the United States and Turkey have agreed to a ceasefire in Syria Turkish side will pause Operation Peace Spring in order to allow for the withdrawal of why PG forces from the safe zone for one hundred twenty hours all military operations under operation peace spring will be paused and operation peace spring will be halted entirely it on completion of the withdrawal let me say this also includes an agreement by Turkey to engage in no military action community of Kabbani so based on what was said during this press press conference there are many questions that remain unanswered for instance who will guard the Isis prisoners as we all know those Kurdish fighters were guarding the Isis fighters who were imprisoned Near the Turkish border and so what's going to happen if they're going to now leave that area also what does this mean for the US troops there around two thousand US troops that were in northern Korea trump said that he wanted them out how many of them had already left are they going to remain there or are they going to go back there what's going to happen to the troops so what's going to happen when it comes to the more than two hundred civilians who have already been killed as a result of Donald Trump's abrupt decision to pull you let's see how that plays out but this is what we have so far and plus very important fact that Turkish Foreign Minister Mabel chose show Lou said it is not a season why would seem to be fairly important because we're declaring don't worry we've got a ceasefire Turks go no no we don't you see the people who would cease the fire is the Turks if they're saying they're not going to do a ceasefire look kind of a ceasefire isn't pretty much yeah it appears that it's God I mean everybody is reporting it as a ceasefire just because Penn said it I don't know if you guys know this the trump administration does not have a good history with truth so sorry interrupted Jank but this is a perfect moment to show you what trump is saying because now trump is taking credit for world peace he believes he needs a Nobel pri peace prize let's take a look everybody's tried to make this deal for fifteen years they could never do it it was only when it said added people started seeing how nasty it was going to be very nasty not only sanctions and tariffs the war itself would have been very nasty everybody agreed to things set three days ago they would've never agreed to that includes the Kurds the Kurds are now much more inclined to do what has to be done this is Jay situation where everybody is happy and I'm happy because there's no fighting we can bring certainly most of our people back home for the first time I'm in many years I think it had to be an unconventional solution because the conventional solution is to sit down negotiate and they've done that for fifteen years actually more than that I understand and that was never going to work but all of a sudden when they saw how nasty it was and how rough it would get it would get a hundred times worse than what was happening but when they saw the level of nastiness they said let's make a deal everybody together let's make it there so look there's a lot to dive into their but I just want to note that the US troops that were sent there weren't sent there in the beginning of the civil war with Syria they were sent there the trump administration in two thousand eighteen specifically to prevent the escalation of violence between the Kurds and the Turks that we're seeing today right twenty eighteen when trump was president so he just said the Kurds are now inclined to do what needs to be done who's always who actually sent the Kurds there it wasn't donald trump he has no idea what's going on in Syria we've got reporting at different times and he said the PKK the Kurdish terrorist group inside Turkey is communist that part is true in that Isis Communist that part is what okay so look when you look at that he says there's they had fighting here for fifteen years nobody could solve it by me what fifteen year timeframe are you talking about if you're talking about Kurds and Turks way longer than fifty talking about the series civil war the civil wars shorter than fifteen years I don't know nobody knows what he's talking about because he doesn't know what he's talking about and the invasion began they already lost a lot of people and so he say everybody's happy no the Kurds are not remotely happy no they are hurting yeah now David's exactly right so ardo on got everything he wanted he said okay look I want this northern part of Syria and Donald Trump get your troops out of there and trump okay and in return he said I'll guard the Isis captives now Turkey guarding the nicest chapters of course not because during still in Kurdish territory in the part that remains and the Kurds have them the Kurds are not gonNA hand it over to Turks who they probably hate more than Isis so they're not going to do that deal we got nothing out of the deal meanwhile Turkey walks in you know does basically an incursion Beijing whatever you WanNa call it bunch of civilians die and then there were awarded with that territory the Kurds well I if if I don't have America backing me up I'm going to get steamrolled Turkey as a gigantic army this is on Turkey today and there was a report that the US bombed their own base in the area to keep it out of Turkish hands so that's that's another thing that we've done to just sort of put a put a capper on this this waste of a both equipment and treasure and also senseless loss of life so I want to clarify a little bit on the sanctions because trump had implants ranted incredibly weak sanctions that aired on laughed at those sanctions the trump administration says will remain in place to ensure that that the ceasefire last the full one hundred twenty hours but trump I said the the much stronger sanctions I will not implement if if they follow through and you know don't escalate the violence more in the future you by the way what happens after the hundred and twenty hours could just keep on rolling and what what's to stop them they they've you know trump down a fake red line and they went over it and then he said Okay now the hundred twenty hours from now is the real red line so why would pick up and again I mean you know trump has shown on the world stage Turkey figured it out and why wouldn't they continue and to that point look how badly to play trump so let's see promises him a thing he can't deliver taking isis captives so it's an empty promise trump doesn't know how empty it is I would know David you don't know anything about North Korea I don't blame me you know that's totally fine right but anyone who cares about this issue knows that the Kurds are not going to hand over Isis fighters Erkki it doesn't make any sense trump thought we were holding isis fighters we're not holding isis fighters occurred are and so he's I just want to take them so Turkey is gonNA take it doesn't work that way he doesn't know anything it is guys it's dangerous for president not to know anything but to finish the thought on another empty promises ceasefire that isn't a real ceasefire any he could pick it up in a couple of days anyway if he wants apparently when he trumps right thing you'll be known as the devil call you later and Mister Satan I'll call you later okay anyway is reported that Ardo on crumpled it up threw it in the garbage and then trump begs for more of a deal so it's so devastating but you know you made such a great point a decision was made in two thousand eighteen to send US troops to northern Syria to protect our Kurdish allies there who were guarding the Isis fighters right and who had been fighting isis on our behalf who made that decision when you have an incompetent president like donald trump who refuses intelligence briefings who doesn't care about these issues and who's only there general what's going on I think that's a huge issue well so I think that what's happening is I the bureaucracy so the State Department in in It doesn't happen often militarily with us in the Middle East but we had somewhat of a safe zone and the Kurds and the Turks were working together to some degree in that safe zone in northern Syria what's your plan what's our current situation he's on the phone with Amazon and yeah the president gets to make that decision it'd be nice if he knew something right or if he has anyone well we saw the news reports where the Pentagon said we're doing what right they had no idea and they were forced to because he's the commander in chief immediately withdraw immediately and our special forces that were on.

"The young Turks podcast I think you'll love a lot of the podcasts on the network old school it's one of my well the Turks on a Mega Mega Day this thing is almost over thick no no it's look we're going to ask you guys don't poll this things were on the last legs here okay so Janke Koranic Aspera David joins US David Gray tabby you hear mark told journalists in the second hour but I wanNa tell you real quick David not only the executive editor American prospect but him in our own Ryan grim worked on a piece that I love Joe Biden's Bruce claim he whipped votes for the cfpb Consumer Financial Protection Bureau I love it because that's the question that I had right after the debate I'm like wait D right so I love that you guys sort of the same question and then actually answered it and the answer is not really I mean we talked about a dozen people who were closely involved the process nobody remembers talking to anyone being involved in meetings having staff involved in meetings the closest we got was Harry Reid who we actually talked to WHO said Oh yeah he helped with stuff from time to time I don't know who he talked to but I think he helped that was about the closest we got the confirmation they did Yeah Yeah yes totally made up okay that's my commentary conclusion look guys emoluments clause on steroids today so I've never seen corruption at this level and I talk about corruption everyday they admit a second Crime Mick Mulvaney says there was quid pro quo unbelievable unbelievable there's a huge Blah between Pelosi and trump every part of this show is unbelievable but first we start with a really sad passing of arguably a political legend in this country so Ana yes all right Baltimore Congressman and Civil Rights Leader Elijah Cummings passed away at the the age of sixty eight there wasn't too much detail given in terms of why he passed but according to multiple reports the cause was complications concerning longstanding health challenges he also fairly recently had heart surgery and there are some reports indicating that the complications from that heart surgery led to his early passing now he was an incredible lawmaker he was a fighter and just to remind you of what type of person he was I want to go to his very first floor speech when he was elected into the houses was the day that he was sworn in Nineteen ninety-six and Karen Mitchell said many many years ago that I say sometimes twenty times a day and it's very simple point but it's one that I live I says I only have a minute sixty seconds in it forced upon me I did not choose it but I know that I would shoes it give account if I abuse it suffer if I lose it only a tiny little minute but eternity is in it and and so I- join you as we move forward to uplift not only the nation but the world God bless you God bless America is a powerful speech as he entered Congress some of the same players are still there by the way so steny Hoyer that was greeting him and he was eloquent in defensive zone causes but also sometimes in defense of his republican colleagues too so open minded Guy and and got more details on his life and then of course I wanNA touch on the latter years with trump in a second so let's go to the early years of his life when he was eleven in years old he was attacked by a white mob as he was attempting to integrate a pool and he had scars to prove it. He had a scar above his eyebrow and he actually pointed to that scar and referred to it when Donald trump fairly recently decided to attack him and I don't want this to turn into a story about trump this is about a man who was a great member of Congress who did wonderful things and really did fight for justice now let me give you more details on his career in one thousand nine hundred sixty one on the seat in the US House of Representatives Cummings eventually served as chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and as ranking Democrat and the chairman of what became of the became the House oversight and Reform Committee I also want to note that he had a history yes of defending possibly fighting for the other side when it made sense but he was also pretty strong when it came to fighting that side when it also made sense and this is a great video montage kind of demonstrating that let's take a look we're dancing with the question will be asked two thousand nineteen what do we do to make sure we shut out democracy intact on the sidelines and say nothing he will say oh you just messing with the president because you don't like that about not liking the president is about loving democracy it's about loving our country it's about making a difference for generations yet unborn that's what this is all about and I'm begging and I'm begging American people to pay attention to what is going on because if you WANNA have a democracy the intact for your children and your children's children and generations yet unborn we have got to God this moment this is our white the states of America we will not intentionally separate children from their parents we are better than that and we are so much better their efforts to stop people from voting that's not right this is not Russian in what country is that I've often said the docs chosen living messages we set to a future we will never see but now children are sending us to a future they will never see there's something wrong we've got last clip of him was at Freddie Gray's funeral and it was a powerful moving speech and you know he was rolling to put himself in vulnerable positions to fight for the right causes and one other example of that was the fact that he was one of the few lawmakers willing to speak out against the war in Iraq so according to the Washington Post Cummings was among the minority of House members and senators who voted in two thousand two against authorizing military invasion of Iraq coming said there was not sufficient evidence of weapons of mass destruction to quote send our young people off to war and thereby place their lives in harm his way an opinion supported as we all know by subsequent investigations. Okay so I WANNA go back to when he was eleven years old a woman comes in and tells them hanging there in a tiny little pool in in Baltimore with other African American kids and and says you know there's bigger pool and they say you know why people have rights too we should be a have the right to be free of the germs of black people and he jumps to the pool anyway and eventually the cops in that case as came in actually tried to protect the African American boys from the angry white mob the mob started throwing things at him anyway bottles and rocks and one of them hit cummings in the in the head and that's where he got his scar but he came back the next day and they came back on the Lee segregated the pool later he found at that a woman who had told him about it was a great civil rights attorney for the N. Double ACP and that's partly what motivated coming to become an attorney so it's a powerful story and I think him and John Lewis have done amazing things outside of Congress and we all of them debt of gratitude for the work that they have done in that respect as well so look you you know me I I'm not overly find a democratic leadership but there were people inside of leadership who are pushing the right direction so sometimes he would look for a cordial interaction in Congress he brought Rasheed until Lebron Mark Meadows very deep right-winger together in the middle of a committee hearing and he got them to cool off and then the next day they hugged and and and that was great as well but he was pushing as you can see those clips pushing and pushing to to get the justice and the right situation with Donald trump the thing that strikes me is that so he was eventually became chair of the House Oversight Committee and that committee has kind of two functions so one is oversight of the Executive Branch and I saw a lot of clips there were which were about oversight executive branch the other part of it is oversight of kind of everything else like corporate America all kinds of investigations it's like that he was a leader on a drug prices he subpoenaed all the top pharmaceutical companies they had very powerful hearings in the oversight committee on that he recently led a hearing that led to a defense contractor giving back sixteen million dollars overcharges when they gouge the federal government he was a leader on foreclosure issues and issues of you know housing discrimination so you know his his fights we're not just fights within the branches of government his fights were really with when corporations were were screwing people in America and he always had his head on straight with those and he was always you know worked with Bernie Sanders With Elizabeth Warren like countless times I can't tell you how many you know things I would get from him about some bill or another that he was working on with them so it is a great loss and then he After he was oversight which is his job as head of that committee and Trump said than Baltimore was rat infested disgusting place and in reality John Lewis district is half in the suburbs of course trump didn't bother to check district Yes some of it is in Baltimore No Baltimore's not discussing a rat infested place and obviously trump is saying that based on race and so but he party called him out on that but he actually it was a very mild mannered on that but he actually in rose to the defense of the four Justice Democratic women when trump said that they should go back to where they came from and that is when he actually called Donald Trump racist and he said look what I was a kid growing up I heard that all the time go back to where you came from and there's no ambiguity about what that means and so of course that range trump even more but I love what he said in one of those clips when he was talking about how we have to hold the Norman Accountable and fight for democracy that's what this is about he's one hundred percent right it isn't about Republicans and Democrats I know that everybody views it that way but it's really about a guy who doesn't understand a respect the former government that we have he doesn't really believe in democracy and coming saw that and he's not a guy who's naturally aggressive he the guy who was naturally measured but when the time came he said as you saw there this is our watch and I think that that is good to the charge that he left and I do want to just quickly juxtaposed the kind of person Donald trump is with someone who actually helped Elijah Cummings in his life when he was younger and this was it just was really touching for me and I really wanted to share it it's the last graphic in the story so this was reported alertly sent him ten dollars with a note that read hanging there I love that absolutely sometimes do something that you don't know how important it is but Oh you throw a rock and a pond and it creates ripples and so that pharmacy owner I don't know who he is I don't know where he came from but he helped a young man who end up helping the country so thank you to him today as well we're going to take a quick break and when we come back we're going to give you an update on what's happening with Syria including the press conference featuring Vice President Mike Pence and Mike pop turn your passion into potential investment opportunities whether it's cannabis fast in travel video games or anything in between.

"I don't have the fights I wait from them because I knew that if you see it it really makes you feel scare because abusive relationship one of the greatest challenges around it was that we were both people of color where both queer with the last place that we were going to go to where the cops though we both had dangerous to them it's almost like asking one abuser to hold another one accountable and that's something that people aren't able to wrist ask at this moment in time and I wanted to note that you know Xena was saying something about language access and not having people who are Altay lingual to respond that's true of all of the systems courts law enforcement in a huge way all the mainstream resources that we have available still gonNa miss something in that person's story so I just wanted to note that like it's not just the power to tell your story it's also having the resources to listen accurately and receptively it with cultural humility one of the reasons that we know many women stay in abusive relationships is because of the finances and I'm going to imagine that the finances and the economic the ability to work the ability to make your own money the ability to and come here and not depend on a partner to help you is one of the reasons that may be exacerbates the issue for immigrant women who are facing I from our community and one of those elements includes expanding our economic empowerment program where we provide Job Coaching Job Readiness Job placement and of course we know again that the trump administration has tinkered with if you will the public charge rules right that also has an impact on this community Zeynab has that had any effect on your clients up -solutely we actually have gene drops down in Women coming to ask for assistance because of changes that are happening even if the policies are not in place but the notion that they could be in place is a chilling effect in a lot of immigrants community is so we've seen a drop down in the numbers of women coming to ask for assistance if they do they say I'm not coming to report but I just need you to let me know two thousand eighteen and we accounted for the just the anti immigrant rhetoric that's been really exacerbated throughout the national rhetoric and along those lines for reasons when you are an immigrant woman who is dealing with domestic violence and you are also a mother does the current climate also feed into the fear that not only if I report I'll be deported but if I report I don't know where my kids will end up I don't know in US policies really since the US has been established but there are you know what you're making the question makes me think of our all of the folks who are already in New York City who are terrified of reporting because they know that child protective services can play a really destructive role in those families.

You're just it's a stupid argument though. But that's the whole thing both parties do this stuff. To me, you just look silly. When you whine about it. When it only happens to you. But then you know, when you're talking about James Komi back saying, well, we're not going to indict Hillary. He's above reproach. I mean, this guy is incredible. Until he wasn't he managed to tick off both parties, which is its own a wet song really tough to do too. By the way. Scott. They were out there last night. When bar said he's going to have this press conference. Chuck Schumer, the American people deserve the truth. They don't need anymore. Pre damage control spin guys like Chuck Schumer, telling me, we deserve the truth. Pelosi Elijah Cummings Elijah Cummings. Oh, gosh. Going through his this is outrageous. Yeah. Of course, supposed to be an independent beacon of truth and Justice again like you can still read the report come to your own conclusion. Then go ahead. The president said go ahead Nadler Schiff goes on and on. But they've got so much of a politically wrapped up in this thing. They've got so much invested in it. They can't possibly back out. Now, it's impossible shift. Can't. Mino- bug eyes is still going to be out there, you know, turn over rocks. He knows her something out there. I wonder it almost becomes silly a parody of itself. And you can tell me this is ten foil Hattie, I've not shared this thought with you get you take Rachel Maddow, her show on MSNBC was based on this is true collusion going to get this guy. Yes. And then when it doesn't happen and there's shock and horror instead of just saying, okay? Well, at least the investigation's over now. The ratings start tanking. So why not double back down? No. There's more to this. We just got to get to the bottom of it. We're not going to give up this fight. So is that part of it? Sure. There'll be point demonstration tonight. Checked in on her today, by the way, whether it's her no, you're right. Anybody else career survival? Absolutely not because you've got so much capital invested in the outcome that you projected that there's no way you can accept defeat. Yeah. I mean, you can't. So you have to come up with a new spin and the redaction part will be the new spin. And there's part of cherry pick some of these statements like the one I just read and they'll use that as evidence that it's like winding about the refs after you lose. It is. Fair score twelve more runs. We want. Right. But you didn't. But there you go. It is you're right. It's the whining after after the fact, and that's not attractive either. There's more on this. We'll get to coming up in the next few minutes update. I knew you'd wanna hear Scott or locked one. She's fantastic to their whole defense this college admission scandal, they this was from a lawyer say that they're basically going to go with the parents on steroids defense. Have you heard this? Yes. Parents trying to help kids. That's all this is exactly what I said. It's parroting on steroids. But that that's just it. They're gonna look at the jury, and they're going to say if you would have had the means that we have wouldn't you wanted to do for your child what we did for ours? They'll appeal to that part that segment where people go L, you know, I've done bunch of stuff for my kids..
