"Yeah it's not to be confused with the charts elgins and it will settle again there was 1961 on Chris. There's a cat. All right, on our 9th in May the two walks from Africa. All right, so 888-876-5593 88 88 Raleigh. I was reading about this lawsuit and I'm going to tell you about it, but at the risk of being political, I'm not reading about it because of the political content, but it's a school thing. And I always find it interesting when schools set them up set themselves up for law school lawsuits. And they sure did here. And apparently this is a Michigan school. And a couple of students are now obviously their parents are suing the school district. Over their sweatshirts. Now, let's pause and say that I knew no good would come of it when schools drop dress codes. Yeah, when this will make me sound like the fossil that I am, but when I went to school, you girls couldn't wear pants and are open toed shoes. Or anything like that. And boys couldn't wear jeans. And I mean, you had rules. Like them or not. Yeah, and your skirts had to be able to touch the floor if you bent down on your knees. You know, and all those kind of things. And then little by little, all this went away, where you could, you know, practically where your bed close to school and there was no problem. And one of the things that has come up since then is the kids who are wearing t-shirts and very often the t-shirts or sweatshirts have slogans. Well, in this case, the school didn't think it through. Apparently, these kids came a couple of years ago with let's go Brandon. Sweatshirts. And if you're unaware, let's go Brandon is a euphemism for F Joe Biden. And this came up because a journalist was covering a NASCAR event and the deal is that Brandon Brown won the race, this is 2021, but the crowd erupted with this Joe Biden chant and the reporter saved it saying say, oh, the fans are shouting. Let's go, Brandon. And, you know, I thought that was just terrific because I can't tell you how many how many disks without a delay have had to go ahead and save themselves from what a listener might have said. My favorite years ago was one of those requests and dedication type shows at night. This must have been like 1962, maybe. And the kid called in and suggested that the guy, the disc jockey, Barry himself in a bucket of, well, whatever excrement you can pick it up. And without missing a beat, the host said, a bottle of schlitz, that's great. I think I'll have one when I get off the air. And of course, when I heard about go, let's go Brandon. I thought about it. But anyway, you knew that with politics being politics, that there were going to be sweatshirts. Okay, fine. And so here are these kids and they're wearing these sweatshirts. Now, the school will let them do it. Now, originally, the school said, we won't let you do it because it's obscene. Because we know what let's go Brandon means, and that's an obscenity, and we don't tolerate obscenities. You know, if they stuck with that, they might not be in the mess they're going to be in. Because the last time the kids before the law was filed, we're told you have to take off the shirts. It was because they said, we don't allow political speech. This is the same school that allows gay pride day and allows all sorts of things, you know, LGBTQ t-shirts or whatever. And on and on. So there's a whole history of the school of allowing that. So saying that this is political speech and we ban that. So the lawsuit's coming. And I think it's going to be an interesting one all the way around. And I don't know, I don't know how it will come if you look at the Supreme Court. It will come out in the kid's favors. A favorite. But maybe they really need to rethink dress codes overall because I don't think you can single out. Let's go Brandon. If you're not doing that with anybody else, but we'll see. Now, as far as school staffers behaving badly, all man have I got one for you. And this is suburban in Annapolis, all right? And Brown elementary school in brownsburg. Special Ed class. Oh, man. Now, not only are the perpetrators of this horror and I'll give it to you, it is a horror in trouble, but the three staff members who didn't report it are also in a lot of trouble. And I would think that everybody should be in a world of hurt and I'll give you all the details. And bottom line is I can't imagine if a parent found out about this that that parent isn't in jail for killing them all. You'll see what I mean. All right, all that and more coming up on WGN radio. Should the Parthenon Marbles Be Returned to Greece?

"Number one for Eric. Do you believe the Parthenon marbles in the British Museum which Anna and I saw this in August should be returned to Greece? The Vatican are returning theirs, the answer is yes. You have to take these things in a case by case basis. But for people who don't understand what this is, when the Parthenon was built. This is one of the most magnificent. I mean, if you want to, it's kind of interesting. If you want to talk about how human beings don't change over the centuries. The idea that the ancient Greeks had the level of genius it took to create the Parthenon. If you've ever watched a documentary on it or read about it, it is absolutely astonishing. Absolutely. It really is, I won't go into it. But the crowning touch in a way literally was the sculptures on the pediment, they came to be known as the Elgin marbles. Now I actually write about this a little bit of my book as atheism dead. Because you can understand that 200 years ago agrees had fallen to the Turks, they really didn't have the ability to do anything about this. So when the British come in, they did this all over the, they did it all over the Middle East. They did it all over. You know, they were basically kind of like treasure seekers. And so they come to the Parthenon and they see these larger than life sculptures on the pediment and they think, hey, those would be nice to saw off and take home. There's no way I can do it justice in the time we have. But the point is they made a deal with the Turks, okay? Who were occupied? They were occupying Greece at the time. So it's like making a deal with the Nazis to steal Polish stuff, you know, while the Nazis are occupying Poland, like not right. So they took these marbles and again, I'm not doing it justice. These are some of the most magnificent sculptures in the history of the world. 25 centuries old. And they took them to the British Museum, where they are today. That has become a scandal. The world has changed Athens built a museum before they hosted the Olympics in Athens to house the marbles. They are now in a position to take care of them in a way that they hadn't been, so that's the shortest answer I can give.

"Be jokes. We need those too. Yes, sir. It's 9 18. And we have the record collection mini spin coming right up. And before we get to the traffic, let's talk about this weather situation because it seems like the meteorologist can't agree on whether it'll be rain or snow, how much, when? What's the latest on this? Well, we're going to go with what our guys are saying. And the idea is that this is going to start as rain and then switch to a rain snow mix and then become a heavy wet snow as we move into tomorrow afternoon. If you have travel plans for Friday, midday through the afternoon and evening, you want to stay up to date on the forecast. The national weather service has a high probability of a one inch of snow at least through Joaquin Elgin de Carol Joliet, Chicago, Valparaíso, Kankakee and Pontiac, and then a medium probability of upwards of four to 6 inches or more of snow in the same area. So depending on when it starts and how quickly the weather cools off or turns colder tomorrow will be determinative of how much snow we get. Winter storm watch is posted for the Chicago area from 6 a.m. tomorrow through 11 p.m. weather services from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. is when the snow is going to fall. And could include snowfall rates of one inch per hour, heavy wet snow that kind of snow that sticks to power lines and tree branches and brings them down. So this could become kind of messy and damaging as we move through tomorrow. We'll keep you posted here on 7 20. Today, mainly cloudy behind your 40 and then mainly cloudy tonight, a slight chance of that rain or snow starting low of 32 overnight and cloudy with rain starting tomorrow than a rain snow mix. And then switching to heavy wet snow during the afternoon tomorrow, high in your 35. Right now in Chicago, we have partly cloudy skies and 36 at O'Hare at

"How did you guys coincide? How did you make it happen together? Well, you know, two completely different personalities in terms of Elgin and well, two completely different people Michael. And frankly, it was a team that was not together, okay? It just couldn't play together at that point in time. And you know, we're all getting old, Elgin had had some really bad injuries and he was, you know, he was the teammate of my dream. Just the best person you'd ever want to be the most sharing giving I idolized him not only as a player, but as a person. He was genuine. And will all of a sudden, you know, he had a big personality and someone who if you don't know people like that, and you know some of the things they do, you're almost reluctant to even say hello because and pretty soon you find out that pretty soon you find out he's a great guy. And it was frankly it was frustrating because I thought we could be better than we were, but it just didn't work. And again, age was a factor there and particularly elders injury, because, you know, he was he was like the acrobatic star that period of time, but more importantly, he was a great teammate. Somebody just loved to be around. He was fun, generous. And wilt was different. But everyone is different, Michael. And you have to learn in a locker room that, you know, you see certain people that react to games, different ways. I know every game was like a war of every game was like, if we didn't win, I was devastated. I hated to lose. And, you know, people don't realize, they see an NBA season comprise today of 82 game. And if you lose 22 games, my colleagues grew, I didn't lose 22 game..

"I just think that's what you do when you guy his sacrifice so much for your franchise. And I know that sentimental, but I truly believe that part of why Eli wasn't as good at the end of his career because simply he didn't have a lot of help around it. Number 30 overall, mister Dave drafted in the 2019 95 draft a corner out of Georgia, deandra baker. Again, Dave was trying to fix his defense. That's a good thought process. But the Andre baker was a total bust. He did not work in the NFL. In fact, right now he is the he's a third string corner in Kansas City literally three or four people would have to get injured before Deandre baker would ever get on the field. That's a former first round pick who is a backup of a backup of a backup now for Kansas City. And again, instead of drafting down to a baker, I'd quadrupled down on eliminating I would draft an offensive lineman. And this is real name by the way. Elgin Jenkins, ELG, TO Elgin. An Elgin Jenkins. It's like Elle, like, it's a weird. It's like Elk, but with a G L gin. He was drafted in the second round by Green Bay. He's now a pro bowler. He can play anywhere by the way. He played center in college at mississip state. Right now this year in 2021, he's playing left tackle for the Green Bay Packers. Center, guard, left hackley's filling in for David bakhtiari. He's on the physically unable to perform list. Normally, you have eld con Jenkins playing left guard. Put them wherever you want. I want his, he's a Pro Bowl, offensive lineman. He can play. I would draft Eldon Jenkins with a 30th overall pick..

"Shadow person in there. This shadow person moved though so look it moved again and moved again. So that's all. I got those three images. So would you guys think like right away seeing something like this that this is a shadow person. Now somebody walking Legitimately it was someone walking. Someone left artur left right after the part of it was probably spooked out or something. Actually that person was a skeptic. You wouldn't come along with us. I was very sad about that. But that person left. And i took images that look exactly like rebecca's images of these shadow people. Okay no my look like that at all super free gate not look like a personal walking. And here's the thing. There was a part of me. Because i had the nut person. Somebody's like father. And so i remember at kay's your dad still around haunting the tour in creeping us out and they're like no. I just got a text from him that he's back like at the car or whatever he is not sell out here so that was not him but there were several people that left the towers. We were going through the tour in fact when we left the tour. We left like two people to do the rest of the tour. So i don't know there's a lot of walking it's fun. So what do you guys think. Guys think that rebecca's images are real. Yeah oh we have the photographer clapping. Who here thinks that they're complete phony pictures all right and I do want to say something. And i can't debate this because this actually happened to me. There was something where did happen. We were walking by the butterfly garden like slightly off of the butterfly garden. There's a wooded area to the left of that l. e. s. And all of a sudden i started smelling lilacs. And i looked over at the tour guide and i was like. Do you smell that. And he said yes. And nobody else melded. But me and this guy now. And then it. And then he shined a light on their wooded area there was no lilacs in lilacs. Weren't in season or anything when we were there so i don't know what the and then it was gone. It disappeared and we tried to go back to smell it. it was completely gone. Yeah say we went back a few days later to take some day time pictures and no. Yeah we could have. Because i mean. Here's the thing that. I don't know if you guys realize when you go to a cemetery at night you can't see anything it's naive it's creepy and it's fine but again you have to go back in the day to actually see what these places are so we did go back and we will post pictures and our show notes also in our show notes. We will have Clips from our seance with michaela yep Which i yeah so yeah. I haven't been on one of hers in the cemetery but at the search and sister. I've been a answers you know. I thought it could have been anybody that she was talking to. And she was picking me she picked on me a lot during. But yeah so you guys will have to listen to that to tell us what you think. So we usually do a overall rating yes of how we feel. We usually do a closing argument where we don't have time to do that. So we're going to do an overall rating between zero and ten all right. Ten being the most haunted zero being haunted. Rebecca how do you feel. I give this one At eight i do. I mean more than a lot of places that we cemetery. I mean seriously people like i mean. We didn't even go there. Were other things. We saw on the tour but You know to me but that photo freaked me out. So i'm giving it an eight okay. I'm gonna put you on the spot. Tony i know your tour guide. And i know that you're skeptical believer. So how would you rate this in all the places that you've been to. How haunted you think bluff city cemetery is well in all the years. I was out in bluff city. Semi terry giving tours. I've had a lot of weird things happen. That i can't explain so i i would have to agree with that eight that would say that. I think it's everywhere in the is. Yeah i mean a bachelor's grove lotta people. Tell me on. Tour is about their experiences at bachelor's grove and i've been a bachelors grove many times daytime once at night and i've never had any experiences out there at all but bluff city cemetery. I've had a lot of weird. Things happened that i just can't haunts trophy all right. I'm gonna give it a one one. Yeah that's that's pretty high for me guys. I mean seriously. I mean usually i'm at zero. Nick what would you say. Just he's giving it a and mondo. What would you say is agrees with me. Monday will say an eight right now. But if i talked to him for five minutes he will go down to zero complete pictures and backup all right. So what do you guys think you guys think it's haunted. I round of applause for it's haunted. God all right. Who's with me that it's not haunted at all all. There's literally three people here. Okay i want to thank you guys so much for coming out and i wanna thank tony for giving us our time. He came from chicago. He did a devil in the white city tour right before this two to five came all the way here. Just just to talk to you guys out here. Thank you thank you. Turner before i end. We have a minute or so. Does anybody have a quick spooky story. They wanna tell us. Yeah you want to tell us what you yeah. We had So someone here. That works at the cafe has a has an interesting little spooky tale You can come up to the red microphone and tell us what you guys have learned. Please tell us your name. So yes so off. Jesus hi. my name is claire. Claire i glare. I have been working here at blue box for about three and a half years now. So i've been able to you know get to know the place according to the salon ladies who busted out in a ouija board. Because that's always the smartest idea they discover a ghost that his basement of this building right here. Basically the basement was the original building and that was a hotel and there was always creepy stuff that happened in the basement of just like. Hey that thing that takes two people to move as move from one room to the other. No one says that they moved it. We have no explanation for that Through this a we deeper recession. They found out that her name was sophie or sophia. It's been a while since they told me the story. I cannot remember her exact name. That's right but i basically they. They gave like she know that she knows that she is dead. She knows where she is buried in. That is ironically the bluff city cemetery. She knows what she died out. She knows pretty much everything. There have been a few times. Were us as a staff were like. Hey we need to put stuff stuffing basement. She will trip us up the stairs. Like there is a hand on your ankle. I have several other coworkers at wouldn't agree with me on that and so the patient is just somewhere that we try to avoid at all costs. Aren't you so excited to be here right now..

"You. Did you hear story about this one. All these pictures were taken by guests on tours So i can't a hundred percent verify then they didn't do something i mean. They all swore to me that they did not do anything. Alternate these pictures or change anything They claim that in this picture. You seeing right there that there was nobody standing over there by those headstones. Kind of looks like an image of a person in the headstones. I mean these are images that's all all i can say think. What are we wait for those listening. It is a white misty You know form. I would say That kind of looks like a to me. It looks like a woman walking. There's always a a woman in white and every what of the napa soda. All three of his image won't we'll keep going here because we got. We got our time. Look at this and now it looks like slammer guys glamour. One this is not gonna sorry spoiler alert the next one looks like but this one in the next one were taken at the same headstone town say headstone all right so we got a little rope. Looks like a little halo wrote stream thing. I don't know and it's ymer jackson. We talked about closer guys. This is i don't know how sliwa showed up. But but he did all right so guys. I am not a photographer. I don't do much photography. I don't even like take into many cell phone pictures. There will be some of mine in this though. But i don't typically do this but we do have for tag. Refer here nicaragua's can you. Can you grab red mic over there. I i want nick to do might debating on this particular one because he knows more about cameras than i do. So what would you say about these pictures as far as First half pretty low representative they always are which makes it a lot easier to manipulate this one. I mean it literally looks like that's been cut from different image thrown around there like if you look at it the grain of the grass and how the pixel the film or digital grain and the photo of the grass and how it's kind of washy instead on this slammer shape it looks like it's been cut out of a different photo put on there. Well there are apps where you can offer like that. No there's i mean actual apps where you could put like goes to pictures on your picture. Sure and that's what it kind of looks like. It looks out. Say the second one looks like like light painting where you have a slow slow exposure. So it's like to second exposure and have something a light source and you move it. That's literally what that looks like In fact as soon as i saw that's what my mindset immediately was like painting So like if they had a flashlight or a glow stick or something and just moved like this during the photo back and create that effect the first one. I mean it's at a distance. It could actually be a headstone even like and it also looks a little weird compared to the rest of it and it is a very low rez photo. So it's it's really hard to say that that is something specific because you can't you can get any detail out of it and that's part of the problem with well i'm gonna get into my own. Skeptics is that's part of the problem with using the photographic evidence it's only people use that most of it is pretty corrupted or corruptible and it doesn't really prove anything so this is where as the team believer. I have to say there will never be enough evidence. Well pictures listener. It will enough. I'm also going to put someone else on the spot. That probably doesn't realise i'm going to do. We have a photographer here. Taking pictures for elgin friends adrian. Thumbs up comes down. what would you say. Oh thumbs down. okay. So tony Do you have anything to add things. I wanna add in response to what you were saying. And again i one hundred percent verify. The validity of these pictures were all taken by tour guests. I haven't like had them sent out any experts to study or anything like that but to the crime lab or anything but you had mentioned that it could possibly be like another picture superimposed. The one thing. I have to say usually during the tours that i give were certain times when i just kinda i mean. There's times when i'm telling stories. There's times when we're using equipment and there's other times i just kind of let people go off and take some pictures and things like that. That was one of this these times. Right here The people showed me and the other guy who was helping me with the tour that night this picture within a couple of minutes of them taking it if muslim that okay so it wasn't like something that they sent later. They showed it to us that night within a couple of minutes of them taking it. Also i don't remember what year this was taken and i don't know how long those apps have been around to where you can superimpose things. I don't remember them all the years. I was giving tours and bluff city cemetery. I don't remember those being around. I've seen people in more recent years. Yeah show though so they may not have even had those type of all right. So what do you guys think. Do you guys think this is real. Who is skeptical like me about this. I said i'd say it'd be to you in that one all right our last so our last piece of evidence here guys we're going to talk about. Is the shadow people so tony. You mentioned people's they shadow figure you know by the holding a place Our to our dave talked about seeing shadow people and so while i was on the tour right. That was something. Actually i will. I'm gonna take that back He did not tell us. A shadow person stories. After i had this particular encounter But we were by the white child Headstone of the butterfly garden. And we were there for a while. People were using those apps and dowsing rods. And all the other things. And i wasn't using any of those so i was kind of looking around and my eyes just kept being drawn to one particular tree And i couldn't put my mind around what i was seeing. There was A shadow figure. Like i'm not i don't like i'm not. I'm not somebody that i believe goes. I usually someone that sees things. But i kept looking back at it and i kept looking back at it and i would move around and i do other things that i would still see it so i did take some pictures of it so i don't know i'm not promising anything i'm just saying. This is what i saw. And i kept seeing it and i'm not like no matter what angle i was at Where i was. That was what i would see This one is a little bit clear of it yeah. I mean as far as i know there was a person's ending their i kept looking to see like. Is this a shadow of something right by that tree again. It's kind of weird. We were there at night but interestingly with all the light pollution it actually doesn't really look that dark when you're in the cemetery so I understand the picture so we'll look good there during night. Plus your iphone kind of does that so again. I'm not promising that there isn't some sort of whatever but i saw it with my naked. I and i was able to photograph it. So i don't know this. Is my shadow version all right. So thank you. Rebecca showing us your images that you took but he took some images as well. He took some pictures. And i would like to show you mine to do the debate right because i i want to show you so this right here. Can you guys see that you guys see the.

"Make them some bread. You'd get your child back then. All right so hinge on paranormal does host regular tours of paranormal investigations. And every once in a while seance mixed in with that so if you're interested you can go to hands on paranormal dot com and check them out. Sometimes they include the other times. They don't the sands cost a little bit more. I think it's like forty five dollars. And you get the seance and you get the whole paranormal investigation. And dave given you a tour which is just amazing and the part about the hands on. Is that you actually get to use the equipment. Superfund yeah i mean who here is always wanted to go on a paranormal investigation. All right there's like three people here that what about you neck. You wanna go on a paranormal investigation. Mestigation you're gonna be looking for the bread. Aren't you All right so anyways we're gonna move on from that. We're gonna pretend. Nick never said that that will be edited out of this episode so But okay so. I also wanted to bring up that elgin. History museum is doing a walking tour where they have people dressed in early one thousand nine hundred and eighteen hundreds close and they give performances like. They pretend that they're the people that died. I think so. And they're not just to let everyone know they are not ghost so they have a tour coming up september twenty fifth and twenty six and they have a virtual tour for people like me. That don't wanna walk up and down these hills anymore. I mean if. I had known that we would probably be talking about something totally different this episode but so that virtual tour is october third and i wanted to bring up one more thing who here has seen the movie a nightmare street. Nobody's really excited about it. What about the remake excitement. One person interesting enough Some of it was filmed at bluff. City cemetery so that's the tie in. I just don't talk randomly about freddie and stuff i do. Yeah you do you do to it tony. Do you have anything else to add any interesting stories about well. You mentioned the gifford family. James gifford was actually the founder of elgin yes yes. Headstone is in bluff city cemetery. He was initially buried at the channing street grounds. Hopefully he was moved to the one person over the founder of elgin would have enough poll there to the new cemetery thing but maybe not yet that when you soon as mentioned that bench. I knew exactly where you were tall. Yeah it's it's really interesting. It's a cement bench so it's really nice to sit on people on tours would sometimes sit up there Trying to think of this anything else. Well they're one area. Where the big holding volt did dave take you out to the big holding volts. No maybe that was. After we left batman There is a big holding vault. It's on. It's along the bluff city boulevard entrance But there's another and you guys went into. You probably went into a little side. We did right there. Tony knows everything. There's a there's a main entrance to the cemetery which they watching us down here. There's a there's a. there's a gate that's open twenty four seven that you could shit and didn't know go on the tour you're not gonna get all the expertise in the equipment that's true that's true. Yeah so you know that's what you're paying for. There's another entrance further on down bluff city boulevard. That is almost never open. That's where the big holding volt is. What is the holding of time. I have visions in my head. That are not pleasant. I want it almost. Looks like a small size building back in the old days before they head. Modern digging equipment. If you died in the winter the ground would be too hard to frozen for them to bury your body. They would put you in a temporary holding volt. Oh that that sounds lovely. This spring thaw came then they would take your body out and unit to where it belonged. there's a lot of stories sightings of a shadow figure a dark shadow. Oh okay i think we we did look at this and we were wondering what it was so that very ooh you can't miss it from the row large and we were wondering what it was so that's just use it for storage visually exciting than that. Okay.

"Bought it. sometimes. I've seen during a lot of tours that have given i've seen people pull those apps out and every once in a while something weird comes out of that has something to do with where we are in a certain location The longer tour we is given at elgin is to also go to the channing. Elementary school which that used to be the old cemetery. At one point there is still at least one visible headstone. Out and channing It it's way in the back corner of the school. If you don't know it's there you wouldn't even be able to find it The name on it is a guy named william hackman. Somebody was using one of those apps. One time we're walking right up to the headstone when the app said built. Wow well they. Okay let's see what i mean about. Tony he knows everything we didn't. We didn't prep him for this episode or anything like that. He just knows. These things are so during this. Rebecca will be showing you some pictures that we took. But on the you know the actual tour i have to say it was just pretty common peaceful. Being in the cemetery at midnight is really beautiful place. So rebecca do you have a ghost story for.

Complete history rebecca than gives us evidence to prove that the story is real and my job is to debate those pieces of evidence. And you the listener prepared to vote on if it's real or not as always we're your host. I'm pat and i'm rebecca and with us. Today we have tony. He is our favorite guests on ghostly. I would say besides mondo mando sitting right there. Nick yeah own. Nick isn't a favorite. Yeah so tony is tour guide. Who mainly focuses on the spooky side of things but he but he's also a paranormal investigator. So that's really cool. It gives them some credibility here. I've always found him to be a very honest and straightforward person. So please help us welcome. Tony zabuski sorry. Thank you thank you. I begin talking to tony and rebecca. Here i just wanna think elgin french for having us back. This is our second time his ghostly here so thank you elgin french. I think you blue-box for hosting us. This is an awesome place. I guess thinks nick for getting us involved in this kind of stuff so yeah we just watched attack of the snack and they killed now we have to follow them which is never easy. So thanks guys for doing such a great job so tony. How long have you been doing tours for. I've been a tour guide for eleven years. Eleven years wow. For the first seven years i worked. Well actually no. I take that back for the first six years i worked entirely out in the suburbs i worked for a company. I'll haunted hometowns corporation Which was run. By a lady named diane loudly we did tours in naperville aurora. And out here in elgin. Wow that i worked for chicago haunting which has company. I'm currently working for right now. awesome awesome. so you've done a you've done a tour before of bluff city cemetery right oh a-tour oh you're you've gone metairie. We bluff city cemetery used to be part of a four hour four. Stop tour that we did in elgin. And then the last few years that i've worked for for ended hometowns and then under hands-on paranormal julius do now has the contract to do the tourism bluff city. We've done three hour. Ghost hunts just in the cemetery. Itself nighttime goes. Tut's wow and just so you guys know. Tony is connected with everybody that does haunted stuff in chicago. We've we've found out. There's like a one degree of separation between tony and every single person. You name the chicago person. Tony has done something with them and they all love him so and we do too absolutely appreciate actually met him tip by taking his tour. This guy's amazing. We need to befriend him and heaven shell and actually we just did the three hour bluff city cemetery. Ghosts too were ourselves. We're not no. It was not but we did. Have dave from hands on paranormal. We're gonna talk about that in a second one more thing tony. How can they find out about your upcoming tours. You go to the chicago huntings website. All the tours are listed there. I'm usually giving. I'm scheduled to give a tour almost seven days a week. Seven nights a week and my daughter who's sitting right up. You're gonna test that socially during the summer i was out there. Almost every night giving to her Also i have some cards. If people want my cards. I have a facebook page. You could usually follow what i'm doing along and they're awesome awesome so you might be asking yourself right now. And i'm sure you are is how do i find out more about ghostly and the answer to that question is that you can go to ghostly podcast dot com and plug ourselves here there. You can find out all kinds of things you could see our show notes which includes pictures like this episode is going to have a lot of pictures in it. It's gonna be really relevant to be able to see that you guys have the luxury of being able to look at a tv and look at all of our muslim pictures but You listeners at home you'll have to go to the show notes to see them. You can also join our book club. That rebecca hosts yes Very excited we've got a booklet coming up in october So you can go to our website and get all the details and sign up for it We meet live. Virtually and talk about spooky books. So i hope because all join us and you can also vote in our poll. So that's the thing about ghostly is that we ask you the listener to decide if taunted or not we don't decide we have opinions but we do not decide you decide and also most importantly you can find out where to listen to us spoiler alert. We are on almost every podcast platform that you can think of that. We're not let us know there's a. There's one or two i would say so with ghostly we usually cover goes stories from all over the world. Mostly the us though and We do a lot of chicago episodes So if you guys are interested in the more local thing we do that as well so we had the pleasure of doing a tour of bluff. City cemetery with hands on paranormal They were really great. We were with dave Dave was our tour guide. He's he's really good. I mean he's not tony good. But he's he's really really good and we actually got to be. Part of a seance in the in the actual cemetery late at night with michaela. Yes absolutely very exciting. Course tony knows mahela to. He knows everybody in the ghostly world seventeen years so i reached out to them and i asked him if if they could do it and they they gladly accepted us So there we were getting ready to go on this cemetery tour. The tour started at nine pm so it was getting kind of dark right. It's like it's not even nine and it's getting dark out there right now. So it was kind of spooky ish skeptic and you say that it was i guess i would definitely recommend this tour if only for one reason you get to hang out in a cemetery at like midnight. Yeah it's pretty cool. I mean that is one of the coolest things The tour and investigation continued after. We laughed we. We kind of we kinda cut out a little bit early. Sorry guys. I want to say that. We stayed throughout the whole thing but we didn't so we got to use some paranormal investigation Equipment so that was really nice. There was one thing where he had were He added like on a cell phone and it would just pop up random words as we were walking. What do you know what that's called tony. How there's so many different apps out there and after bolus app yup does it now. How accurate would you say that that is. I take all apps with a grain of salt. That's what i liked about you. Tony.

"British museum where they reside today. The controversy about the marbles never went away in eighteen thirty to greece finally became independent from the ottoman empire. One of the first things they did was establish a program of monument protection and they tried to repatriate artifacts that have been taken out of the country. The new greek government claimed that the marbles were stolen illegally. This began a series of legal maneuvers on behalf of the british to justify keeping the marvels at the time. The marbles were removed from the parthenon. It was a turkish military elegant conscious waltz up to the parthenon do whatever he wanted to do so he needed official approval from the sultan and that came in the form of a document called a firman elkin produced an english translation of an italian copy of the furman. And this is what the legal argument of the british rests on. You can say what you want about the efficiency and corruption of the ottoman empire. But they were really good at paperwork. The original version of the firm and turkish has never been found in the ottoman records as such the authenticity of the firm and has been called into question. There have been many legal opinions written about the legal status of the marbles. They've included arguments such that the firm was forged and that the firm and even if it was legitimate didn't include the removal of any pieces of art. It only included the authority. To take drawings and molds there's a lot written about the legal legitimacy of the firm. And i could talk about it but at the end of the day none of it matters. Because there's an even more important legal theory that takes precedence and it is known as finders keepers losers sweepers even though greece has been talking about getting the marbles back for almost two hundred years modern efforts to get the marbles really only began in the nineteen eighties in one thousand nine. The international organizing committee australia for the restitution of the parthenon marbles was established in one thousand nine hundred three the british committee for the reunification of the parthenon marbles was formed in one thousand nine hundred three. The first formal request by the greek government to the british museum was made for the return of the marbles. One of the first excuses used by the british museum. Was that there wasn't a place at the parthenon do properly show the marbles in response. The greek government built the acropolis museum and built a brand new state of the art space for the marbles to be put on display. After it was built. The greek said okay. We got the space built. Can we have the marbles back now and the british museum said no unesco offer to mediate a solution but then the british said that unesco isn't an institution that governs museums so they wouldn't be the proper organization to do this. The international association for the reunification of the parthenon sculptures was founded in two thousand. Five it has gotten support from celebrities. Like george clooney and matt damon core both in the movie monument men which was about a unit in world war two that found stolen nazi art the courtroom or the marbles are located in the british museum. The do wien gallery is arguably much worse than the new facility built. Nathan's there's no climate control and the skylight in the room is leaking successive. British governments have taken the position that the will remain in britain and will not be returned most recently prime minister. Boris johnson has reiterated this in march of twenty twenty one. The british public however doesn't seem to agree almost every poll taken over the last twenty years show support for returning the marbles a two thousand fourteen polls show that forty percent of the british public was in support of returning the marbles whereas only fifteen percent wanted.

This was all done at the personal expense of the earl. At a cost of seventy four thousand two hundred and forty pounds or what today would be worth five million pounds or about six point eight million dollars. His original plan was simply to decorate his home in england while the work is interesting in and of itself. That really isn't what the story of the elegant marbles is about almost immediately. After the art was delivered to london there was controversy. Many of the elite in london came to see the marbles and they were considered a big hit however some people like lord byron denounced the removal of the art from greece and considered elegant to be vandal. He mentioned the removal of the marbles in his eighteen twelve poem childe heralds pilgrimage. Sir john newport was another member of the aristocracy who objected to the absconding of the marbles. He wrote quote the honorable. Lord has taken advantage of the most unjustifiable means and has committed the most flagrant pillages. It was it seems fatal that representative our country could loot these objects that the turks and other barbarians had considered sacred unquote. There was a debate in the parliament on the marbles and there was a vote stating that the marbles had been given asylum in a free country in the parliament in eighteen sixteen voted to purchase the marbles elkins sold them to the government and half the price of cost him because he had to cover debts from a divorce he was actually offered a higher price by napoleon to bring them to france and to put them in the liuw but he wanted them to remain in britain from there..

He woke up on wednesday morning and he was big mad at somebody leaked something. He was furious and suggested that the announcement would no longer happened instead. So i was planning on friday night then at some point on wednesday afternoon a bates name showed up on the university of memphis white pages directory which suggested he was already enrolled at the university of memphis so we had this weird situation where a prospect who had not yet publicly committed to a school was theoretically already enrolled in a school at that point. I imagine they just decided. Let's go on and do this thing so money. Bates jumped on instagram. A little before six o'clock central and announced he will join his former teammate. "That is your prediction. I do not see it happening. Because i believe that damian lillard is very happy in portland in the end. I know he has to sort of rattle is sort a little. Bit of saber. A little bit about. I wanna do what all the great players do but in the end i think he's very comfortable being the biggest fish in a fairly small pond. That's that's who he is what he is and they do have a long-shot chance of contending but it's a long shot. But are they going to be a playoff team playoff team skill. But it's hard we you the sixty unisex the sixth seed and you have climbed that ladder. I don't believe they can beat the lakers and seven. I don't believe they can beat the nuggets and seven. I don't believe they can beat you will. Is there a thing as this. Yes is there dame yes well. It's going to be that time. But they take over. A playoff series against the lakers skip against ab against lebron against russ against all the weapons. That they have murray comes back healthy. They've skit remember last year. They beat they. Beat a portland without murray. Well dame beat russ once upon a time no lebron or a deed yes. It was paul. George glad you wrote it up. What do you put on that. And he got post rise. Second shot here. I need to see that one level higher against a real team but the thing is skip he literally that half a beef that basically seven games to beat the lakers. The likelihood of i mean look. There have only been a handful. Probably you probably gotta go back to jordan. Or maybe we'll way back elgin baylor were guy over. Seven gave series average forty. I i think. Rick perry i think rick perry did it will go to score. Rick perry well. I do do a radio show with them in san francisco but yes but for me. I believe he's going to give chauncey a chance. Give the blazer the chance but then he's gonna come to the realization. I really got no chance window title. Here i'm going to remind you this russell. Westbrook is capable of singlehandedly. Beating team inaki his own team out it can happen. Is this bra. He liked camomile carbon man but burn them candle. Light like man you were coming all angry and everything and you can't bernie's russ is unconscionable got too much around pointing going into year. Fourteen throwing the first pitch. I did see the on one bad ball all all in and you know this is a very important season all in because he thinks he's mr lakers all all hands on days that ready share. He's got now a. Jerry west who was his longtime teammate with the lakers was on with mason and ireland with ramona who was information today and they had him on. And you know. I thought jerry really. He nailed it when he said that. You know elgin baylor was really the first star to put the lakers on the map. Let's hear well for here. And then particularly. I think the first two or three years but we you know became kind of a dynamic duo in terms of scoring and and driving his team to win I think the sad thing about it was that Doing dad era heck. We were on the last page of the newspapers. I remember vividly our first few years In sports sports arena. You go there and the people would be rooting for other teams. And it wasn't until while until we started getting into the playoffs and that seems to Kind of Get people's involvement going. It seems to be more interest that doing those playoff periods Fans started turning out. And of course he was you know he was the king of the hill But i was just you know kind of his running mate and I think together It was a pretty big combination. But there's no question. Is that his charisma. Holding the court. was special and and today's era he would he would have been all over the place but I did not look at him like that. I just looked at him as a basketball player. That had great skill and great determination. I looked at him more as a friend. And someone who shared much much more than just the basketball pointing itself

Avon Rebrands Amid a Surge in Reps

"Month brought big changes to a beloved brand avon. I made a name for itself by offering housewives away to earn independent income by selling skin-care perfume and cosmetics from home but the iconic american company is no longer an independent corporation or based in america the household name cosmetics company is now to companies owned by two different international corporations south korean consumer products giant elgin household and health healthcare which bought avon's north american business and brazil's largest cosmetic company nature cosmetic os which bought the majority of the company in a deal that closed this month. Lg is also a significant investor in the net. Sure deal. it's another end of an era story which has been a familiar. Refrain of late for nearly a century and a half. Avon's presence has been a constant in the beauty sector. Now you'll say lights from the beginning. Avon was a trendsetter decades. Before american women had the right to vote avon founder. David h mcconnell gave them a chance to earn an independent living. Mcconnell was a traveling book salesman who offered perfume to his customers. As a perk. The perfume was so popular that he soon created his own product line in the late eighteen hundreds. He recruited women. He met during his book selling days. As the first quote avon ladies in the century that followed the company became a direct selling amazon with more than six million home-based representatives at its peak. But the beauty behemoth suffered an ugly fall in more recent years value plummeted from its peak of twenty billion dollars. The company struggled to keep pace with changing consumer tastes one forbes. Report blames the company's decline on a failure to adapt to the changing role of women in the workplace. An ill conceived plan to crack the retail sector in stores like sears in jc penney after well known ceo andrea junks. Ouster in twenty eleven one citigroup analysts said quote. You guys are so totally screwed up in. So many ways that change has to be radical a report in fortune recount. The company also failed to anticipate new competition. Both from companies like amazon and from upstarts like rodin and fields. That's the skin care. Brand behind the wildly popular. Acne treatment proactiv rodin and fields was purchased by estee lauder three years later and converted into a direct selling company. The brand now grosses more than a billion dollars a year. Largely because tech savvy. Soccer moms sell the lotions and serums to their pows by a social media but avon may win the beauty competition and the end. Direct sailings appeal has faded in the us. But it's still a popular concept in many other countries and the new international focus means avon can better capitalize on hot markets like the uk where pandemic job losses led to a one hundred percent surge in new rep sign ups last year and of course avon will still be doing business in its country of origin. So if you need glimmer sticks or skin so soft well fear not. They're still just a socially distanced. Quarter away

Why Is There a Parthenon in Nashville?

"At first, no one expected the building to last. The Tennessee Centennial Exposition, which was something like a world's fair or Walt Disney world's epcot was held in Nashville in eighteen, ninety seven. It featured a full scale replica of the famous Parthenon from Greece the Plaster Parthenon. This plaster Parthenon which fit in with Nashville's ambition to be the Athens of the South housed an art exhibition over six months one point eight million people visited the exposition small when compared with the twenty, seven million, who turned out for the Chicago world's fair of Eighteen, ninety three, but huge for Nashville which, at the time had a population of one hundred thousand as a nineteen twenty one newspaper put it the general effect of the cream, colored staff structure with the brilliant colors, and the freeze and Gables, so overshadowed all the other buildings that when the exposition was over, the people demanded its preservation, and it became shrine to the residents and visitors of Nashville. But this shrine was not built for the long term by nineteen eighteen. The building had disintegrated so badly that it had to be closed for safety reasons, however, thanks to popular demand. The city decided to rebuild it. Isn't concrete structure in nineteen twenty. The Nashville Parthenon reopened to the public in nineteen thirty one. As with the Greek Parthenon, the columns on the Nashville structure are not completely straight, but have a slight convex curvature called emphasis. The corrects for an optical illusion that makes straight lines appear concave at a distance. The structure is also full friezes carvings, and includes a replica of the famous elgin marbles now known as the Parthenon Marbles. These marble structures were part of the original Parthenon, but were removed by the British earl of. And sold to the British Museum in Eighteen Sixteen, the entire transaction remains a point of dispute between Britain and Greece. And while the original Parthenon is in a ruin, the national version features the complete structure. A builders made educated guesses to fill in the parts. At the time of its reopening in one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, one, the only thing missing from this replica Parthenon was a statue of the Greek Goddess Fina. But after twenty years of small contributions from the public via a donation box at the site plus some private funding, there was enough money to commission a forty two foot. That's thirteen meter statue, the same size as the original. Tennessee sculptor Alan require to eight years to finish the mass of work, which was unveiled in nineteen ninety, and features a spear that was crafted with McDonald's flagpole is the sturdy core for twelve years. The statue stood in plain white gypsum cement, but in two thousand and two it was gilded in real gold, although some people have complained that the gilding makes Gaudy, it's actually more historically accurate. Nashville Parthenon still serves as the city's art. Museum and it's permanent. Collection is home to sixty three paintings of nineteenth and twentieth century American artists donated by Nashville businessman and collector James.
