Episode 157 - 9 Shifts I made to find my best friend and marry her

"Welcome to family teachers a podcast or anyone who wants to experience healthy relationships within their family. This is Doctor Cory Gilbert and I'm honored to come alongside. You encourage educate and equip you as he focused on the different relationships that Mucus family. Let's get started and focused on today's feature. I WanNa give you the nine shifts that I made to finally find my best friend and life partner and Mary well nine shifts that I made. I want to give these to think about nine shifts. I One I raised my standards for the kind of person that I wanted to marry. This was so important. 'cause it changed the kind of person people that. I actually spent time with her spent time pursuing second. I made sure to have others give us. Our input is okay. Are we on the right track versus ignoring other people's input and thinking that I have all the answers or that my emotions are trustworthy and that or even hers and we listened to those around us third? We committed boundaries. This is really difficult. And you've got to talk about these can talk about those in the future but this is really saving in that early stage actually all stages of life but fourth. We were intentional at building a strong relationship friendship. It's easy to be sexual but it's not as easy to be a friend and so hard times and difficult times and times are they're not as lovely that friendship is really critical especially prior to the wedding because it sets the tone for the marriage fifth we learned to play together laugh and enjoy each other's company and we find now that if we don't aren't careful we lose that we have to come back to that that's really critical to play together. Laugh and enjoy each other's company. Sixth we saw our conversation. Our Dreams merging together naturally so while getting to know each other in that process. It became natural the next steps. They weren't huge. Hurdles has some hard decisions but as as we spent time together our dreams merged they weren't in competition and there wasn't pulling back and forth seven we proceeded cautiously and with wise counsel towards marriage in these kind of fit with some of the others like we have other people we talked to be. You'll see as we keep going with this next one eighth. We did a lot of premarital and even pre engagement counseling we read books. Together we detests. We did counseling and very important. We met with a financial adviser because I had a lot of debt that I was coming in with student. Loans and other stuff met lots of medical debt because of health issues But we did all those things. Prior and night we entered marriage all in. We could not see that eleven months later. I will be hospitalized almost die. We couldn't see that what was coming years after that being in Hurricane Katrina we couldn't see lots or any of the stuff in the future and that's what it is it's partnering together for a life that's full of unknowns so these are really huge and I hope they actually help you think through your standards your vision and your strategy to find someone to actually marry. Well we same again just to kind of moderate I. We raised our standards for a life partner. I raise my standards for who I was GONNA marry. Second made sure to have others. Give us their honest affirmation or questions about us. And we listened third we committed to boundaries fourth. We were intentionally building a strong relationship. The keyword a friendship fifth. We learned to play together laugh and enjoy each other's company. Sixth we saw in our conversation. Our Dreams merging together naturally as we dated courted headed towards marriage seventy proceeded cautiously and with wise counsel towards marriage including for our parents many others and then as we did a lot of premarital and even pre engagement counseling read books did test counseling and very importantly met with a financial adviser because of my debt to be all in. It's all on the table. We use all sitting there for her especially to make. That was decision and night. We entered marriage all in could not foresee see what was coming. May You do the same if you want. Help expanding on those our love to get on a phone call with you. Resume Zoom Call. We can strategize and look at that future for you your vision figure out how you can develop that and how you can build something that works for you to see where you're getting in your way and where some of the things in your own heads getting in the way of finding that person in pursuing in a way that draws you together naturally and then building a marriage that you're proud of you can be all in thank you a tuning in to the family features podcast. never actually come across each other and then two weeks after nine eleven we bumped into each other and started talking and made plans to meet up a few days later ended up talking all night again at a cafe until they closed down just felt a sort of instant connection to each other and about eleven months later we were actually married in if i'm a bucket fun where my family based at that time an came back to boston packed up and moved across country to san francisco and we've been here ever percents almost eighteen years i entered it thinking it was one marriage for a lifetime and i think that's come to realize it's action many marriages over the course of a lifetime we went through sort of our courtship and dating face and then her honeymoon phase and being in a city as a young married couple and then we had are son and that completely ends the marriage as you annuity begins a new one once our son hit around five years old it also very different he was much more beginning to be more independent going to school and now there was a feeling for me that i don't even know my husband after child rearing so intensely with are only fun for number here is it's very much a dance back and forward of drawing closer to your partner drying away from your partner and that drying away can invite them back in again hopefully into a cycle but there's also the possibility of breaking apart and holding tension within a marriage so i think for me personally it became a place that did not include play orange toy and that caused a huge reckoning between us of do we really wanna stay together if we do what can you imagine not ending like how do we create that and so the last few years has really been about okay we are now completely rebuilding something you together and it's been both exciting and a lot of work i'm alison briscoe smith a psychologist and assistant professor at the right institute senior fellow at you see berkeley's greater good science center i'm filling in this week for decker kelton are here on the science of happiness how do you keep a partnership together when it feels like you're grown apart that's the question asia mom and her husband have had to ask themselves after eighteen years together on each episode of our show we have a guest try a research search backed practice help them deal with the challenges and their live like stress conflict disconnection you should join says are happiness guinea pig today she chose a practice increased joy in connection in her marriage you shows a writer and co editor of two books folks love and she lost the secret love lies of american muslim women end salon love american muslim men on love sex and intimacy first asia key tell us a bit about what inspired you to create those books i love love stories i love romantic comedies and i did not see myself or my amazing brave outspoken fears muslim friends reflected in any of the stories that were being told about us by people outside side of our community and i just felt that it was time for us to tell her own stories for ourselves by ourselves and sharing that with each other to create community because so many of us feel isolated in our live until we reid the stories of others and see ourselves reflected in that and love seemed like such a universal doorway to making those connections within and outside of our community as are happiness guinea pig you chosen exercise aimed at reconnecting with your partner in yourself we call it the exciting activities were couples practice end do you prepare yourself for it by journaling about these fees is within your own relationship beforehand key share what you wrote with this sure i call it the map bliss middle this long stretch a midlife and middle marriage with seemingly few signpost dotting the landscape stretched between falling in love an empty nest but what if the rest of us the most of us who want to reconnect with the inner radiance it's a self an partner that radiance and glow that let the world when we first met and sometimes seems it guttering flame under on ending needs of raising a child caring for parents ends and surviving san francisco in some ways having an only child adds to the attention of finding time once partner every time i turn towards one other fields neglected wow you you really speak to i think something that we all really struggle with that kind of middle ground of being kind of lost between when we fall in love and getting ready to do all the other stuff so can you walk us through the steps of the exciting activities were couple of exercise size sure it was meeting once a week for about ninety minutes doing an activity that perhaps snyder of us had done before for at least four weeks which made a list of things that we would be interested in doing and we wanted them to be obviously realistic unmanageable and the practice wants to take things like causton time into consideration as well so we did eight chocolate making workshop which was one of my favorite activities we went out for dinner to new restaurants coinciding with my son having dungeons and dragons weekly meeting we went to hearst castle which was amazing a road trip weekend getaway in cambria and we for dancing lessons we went for tango which we start at outer relationship doing salsa together and we had not downs in many many years and you actually recordings you're tango class ross let's go ahead and listen to part of that now go is gorgeous converted and that's very very sexy kind of opens wasn't any other though a did what the dance instructor say she ring true you did tango make you feel more connected to her husband it was probably the most magical of the size of that we did because i was able to remember who i had been an also bring everything that i am come to the table full and or to the dance floor and you also chose to write about your experience doing this practice which is great because we know from research that journaling helps us to kind of reconnect with experiences think about it even process it in a different way let's hear what you wrote about this dance class because it kind of sounds like a magical moment sure in tango each person is an individual they could create an cody the dance together his face this is so close an intense that it almost makes me want to close my eyes when was the last time i gazed so intently into his eyes and held them perhaps we'll look into are smartphones so intently tensely because we are afraid of what we will see in each other's eyes this dance is a map one that unfurled as you step forward and then again as he does every time one of let's create the space they other steps into it perhaps that is a reflection of this partnership to it is a dance of closeness and distance of knowing andrey discovery when i slow down and make the time the familiar exterior melts away to reveal something sweet and knew what compelled you take the extra step to go ahead and write about the different exciting activities that you did with your husband and it allowed me to take a step back chronicle what had happened and what was happening in start to see connections and themes and then be able to take that learning into the next experience and it felt like it deep end each experience as i was writing about it you know there's resignation there's infidelity there's breakups and all of those things are real right and the fact that people continue to choose each other enjoying love and desire is also real and yet it's not highlighted and so in some ways by writing in creating the reality i'm creating the narrative that i wanna see how is this impacted you relationship it has created a lot of laughter renewed trust reliance on each other sort of interdependence a willingness to put in she try wild new things because it's so challenging sometimes defined that time what are the barriers to us so time expense a very busy lifestyle if i slowed down my partners like she's super burr interesting and fun to hang out west and lovely but when i'm on high speed and just going going going till eleven pm at night and then passing out i'm missing all of that and i mean i so appreciate you're elation of the problems that we all have but then relationships how do we make time for each other you know you're speaking to the universality of what many people experience and i also appreciate it you're framing this in the context of being a family of color or being a family that is muslim so there is this opportunity to really think about ourselves as universal and these pieces that were struggling and that maybe if we get a chance to play with each other in many different forms that that would help out you know a romantic fantasies in america are not around work in a relationship part of the structure that we actually put into it was okay we're gonna check in in a deep way twice a week and that was wonderful and i gave us a framework of really knowing who we are now fifteen to eighteen years into a marriage and i feel like what this exercise did was really highlight for me the fact that we were not including playing that we had the structure of the twice weekly meetings but they were all sort of very necessary indeed but sometimes draining i'm talking to each other about where you at emotionally what does this look like next and where do we wanna go and all of the necessary work but this introduced this little light heartedness and play enjoy that i just fell after bubbling up inside of me constantly as we did these exercises and it also introduced an element of slowing things down how did you choose these exercises we made this both of us and talked about them there were some overlap like the chocolate making workshop was definite yes we wanna try that that sounds fantastic i love you if you could to treat about that experience although it's gonna make me hungry but i value how good i smell the chocolate and then taken nibble letting it melt on my tongue slowing down the process of eating it allows me to experience the taste in a way i haven't noticed before it's bright as fruit under that sleep brown exterior how did i not taste that before i wonder writing down mango dark cherry on the paper in front of me aside long glance set my husband who's leg is touching mind what else have i been missing the chocolate machine stop the silken mass inside is ready to pour into the truffle randy is pouring so steadily steadily ends moseley his lifelong attention to detail and his fine strong self so ideally suited to troublemaking he spends his days as a typing techie locked to screen his this hands look beautiful in this tender yet concrete work of creating slow tangible sweetness oh that's beautiful you both kind of describing slowdown chocolate which you know everybody like but you also so seemed to be called the pay attention to randy and to kind of see him in a different light did you feel like these exercises you saw him differently absolutely was an opportunity to just let him be who he was in the moment and to try and see that without imposing everything i know about him and i did not know that as they techie he could make such find silk and what did it take to allow you to overcome the barriers that we often and find you know the logistics of childcare and so how did you work through that as an opportunity for us to think about what could we do to move those out of the way so we tried to a mix of things that were free or lower costas well there's things are more expensive like the weekend away and you know the time barrier barrier are real and we're very lucky that we have my parents about an hour away and they love to offer their babysitting services and right now my family's auction moving further away so we won't have as easy access to that so there's a lot of thought about well how do we make this work in future would eight parent babysitting clot be something that we could do this exercise really really highlighted for me not only the joined connection i want my partner and my son and my family but also with my community and that and i can't have one without the other that the helps civil and she reflects yeah i think a lot of times we take this kind of pursuit of wellness something i happen to you by myself and this is offered anything but i can do this in relationship and do this at my partner but you've also highlighted in order for us to do this partners we have to be in community unity so whether it's your parents or a co op or just someone to watch the kids at the invitation to kind of be intentional about what kind of community we create that allows us to be well and i think so many communities of color have such great wisdom inexperience experience without and other communities have something to learn from you know i know that from many will some cultures family and community of central and that's where everything begins the heartbeat mhm had just unnoticed even doing these things in what is the impact on him i think he feels more like this in our parenting and when i feel more connected to my center and i feel more connected to my partner were able bring calm in playfulness to the family and their interactions with her son instead of coming from the stretched place where it's just like we need to do this and we need to do this and you need to get to bed and you know just that cycle of posts school trauma running drama around and get you know get him too bad on but just okay what if we just took a few minutes to play something or talk about something would dream together and i just feel feel more mellow with him and in in terms of that in terms of thing it's not catastrophe is not a crisis if he doesn't get to bed at exactly seven thirty pm and if he wants to play board games for while it's okay do you think you're they're gonna continue to do these planned intentional activities and her husband absolutely i mean we still have our weekly sort of dinner that's gone siding with my son's activities we've also restarted something that we used to do at the beginning of time in san francisco which was picking a road and following it to its and and just seeing what might come up along the way and we recently did that and discovered this huge mural that's a decade old that we've never seen an you know it just made me curious about what are the things i haven't seen in my partner yet and it's also i feel ripples out to other relationships because you are in relationship to so many and my parents are older i see them often but tend to sort of taken for granted in some ways and it's made me wonder what what are relationship look like if we started doing something a little out of character together i want to be able to say that this is the life i chose this is the company created this is marriage that i want and desire and created and were always in a state of choosing whether we do it on consciously or unconsciously so by sort of creating the structure of okay every week were gonna do an activity or everyday i'm gonna have my prayer and meditation time allows i think for the daily choosing a daily welcome of the life that we've created well you should thank you again for joining us and the science of happiness and sharing so much about your relationship thank you is such a pleasure speaking with you i love how he shut out of her own variation too exciting activities were couples but journaling about her experiences with her husband she would building on the work of relationships researcher arthur aaron psychology professor at stony brook university aaron and his colleagues one of the figure out how could he sustained feelings of passion in connection and satisfaction their partner even after many years decades could it be the people who are happier do more exciting activities or is it exciting activities makes you happier we brought couples into the lab than they did in activity half of them didn't activity where you're tied together at the wrist and ankles with their partner and there's this row of about thirty feet long of gymnasts that you had to crawl across pushing foam roller with their head across the map an back you weren't allowed to use your hands or you're teeth and you do this together and you have to beat a time limit they had a take off their watches and stuff as we set the mob so they didn't know the time we rigged it so the first two times they almost made it and the third time they just made a half of the couples were randomly assign just separately crawl across the map and crawl back and they thought that was kind of funny it didn't bother them what we found found is that after doing be exciting activity there would say considerable increase in their report it quality of their relationship also in the quality of their conversation with their partner one kundu enjoyable things with their partner and that's fine but but it doesn't create any excitement in that sense of passionate love that sense of even connection with someone when you do something different exciting and you associate that with the person the relationship then takes on that quality of sites if you like the tried exciting activities are couples pack this or other practices the help you feel more connected to the people in her life visit are media podcast gates and book chlamydia at the interest in his costume largely stemmed from the fact that his daughter was dressed as the wasp which is of course the superhero partner of rudd's has a little toy accordion so good for him and i really appreciate that his daughter paid homage to the movie that her father's in but i appreciate the thought that went into that laverne cox made her own outfit which i appreciate she went as a superhero and did not dress up as ant man which she could've but dressed up as wasp so you know that just seems like nice symmetry the weekend of course was full of various wrote there are all kinds of pictures of celebs dressed up some of them you can look at them and know exactly and others maybe not so much jessica biel and her joker is very creepy i don't know who he is the doesn't mention it sierra and russell wilson figured you know hey she can make her own outfit and that's what she did so you know what i appreciate the craftiness that goes into making your own costume even when uh-huh but maybe that's just me justin timberlake for some reason went as a microphone next to her i guess okay i feel like a wet as her husband justin timberlake but the instinct version of justin timberlake so you've got the blonde curls sure would have gotten it just from the costumes you can afford to buy something crazy expensive rose mcgowan posted on instagram my halloween costume is no majd one of the greatest women women michelle obama and they did a good job they have the outfits the hair and everything is so that that was clever went as beyond say and jay z. in there video where they are standing in front of the picture of the of the president soon it'll be like to thanksgiving items that you can maybe find if he poor thanksgiving gets shaft every year you're at mia farrow she is of course still rocking her very short blond hair and she's got a a knife and she's looking very creepy lots of drippy mascara the honesty expression interesting outfit so yeah let's see there's a there's all kinds of pictures his costume could have been better i mean i think it's kinda funny that she went as him he went as a microphone nicki menaj went as harley quinn beat let's see what else do we have need of dove went as billy irish halloween parties and so you can go online and online on social media if you know if you follow celebs i'm sure you saw pictures of their costumes if they went you can't really you can't really help but smile when you see the picture because he just looked so deadpan in all the pictures that i've seen he even herbal i like i like family themed costumes as well so lots and lots of your your typical costumes stormy with her daughter little toddler daughter also went as a cheerleader and they look adorable together the baby is kind of looking in the picture like i don't for lopez but it's very jennifer lopez esque outfit and let's see so the liam payne was clark kent nicely done who is her character in bring it on isis the cheerleading character and little baby gabrielle union i know that's not her name but her last name stormy webster went as her mom kylie jenner at the met gala the probably not the baby's choice she looks lisa renner excuse me lease arena went as jennifer lopez yeah i i can see that i'm not sure that had i seen her somewhere i would have immediately said burn the looks like the breakfast at tiffany's audrey hepburn good choice what are my favorite is the gabrielle union wade zero marilyn manson creepy demi levato went as marie antoinette and the picture that she posted on instagram holy cleavage batman mitch good times celebs always i always find celebrity costumes a fun and fascinating and sometimes perplexing sometimes it seems i don't know what else do we have i dream of jeannie always a good choice i always wanted to go jeannie i almost did one year but the the cost for him he really when you look at him he doesn't look that much like no he looks like real quick you can tell he's trying to be but it's not like it's not like fooled am i found did not fit which made me think that i was fat which i was not because yeah nope not fat at that point in my life but body like just an opportunity to dress up in the most random thing you could find can't say i blame you i plan on wearing ridiculous halloween themed cast and when we come back more halloween themed social media news so stay tuned it's cutting into your exercise time it's stabbing ES these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA this product is not intended to diagnose wearing halloween socks for a week now with halloween earings so i like to go with good theme and take our first break of the well online at CBS these statements have not been evaluated by the FDA this product is not intended to diagnose treat cure or prevent any disease exactly who she was being what i saw the pictures like that's arianna grandba- who and then i looked in it was gordon kardashian so not bad kate beck and sell went as audrey when the back nine and it's attacking your peace of mind it's pain and it's getting in between you and a life you want to live cd medic targets yeah it's it's very elaborate but the baby looks a little shell shocked picture maybe she's just tired com and last thursday some lucky fans went through it's alive a first of its kind interactive haunted house hosted by neil patrick harris as a family but this year neil patrick harris is doing something in addition to his normal dressing up is is a story according to people i've been wanting to put haunted houses together since i was a little kid growing up i used to scare my parents and their friends when they were having a dinner party harris who well she went as marie-antoinette that still has her head of course because most people do coordinate kardashian as arianna 'grande actually i i knew course it's fast acting relief with active OTC ingredients plus the added benefits of THC free hemp oil get back to your life with CBD medic available online in that seat one of my favorite celebrities that dresses up for halloween is neil patrick harris who dresses up with his family and they always have is on facebook live where viewers were able to actually vote on the different tricks and treats in live time for the fans to experience you want to be healthier you just don't know what to do all these shows telling you this and that but nothing seems to work will listen close teamed up with peanut butter cups for the event told people he said this is taking it probably to the taking it to probably ultimate level and and then there are of course some pictures of the fabulous family in their various halloween costumes sort of feeling in that current year there are a few rules and it's fun to be scared when you know you're going to be okay some other group never been done before we're creating a haunted house that has a lot of variables oh maybe it's like choose your own adventure huma they always look amazing i wait every year to see what they're going to dress up as because they really go all out and they seem to enjoy it and i like that they do it early on star wars and more recently ghosts from disneyland's haunted mansion attraction has to be way fun for those kiddos to dress up every year golden state media concepts has got something great for you the health and wellness podcast dedicated to work are transversely eating habits costumes that harris and his husband david burqa and their nine year old twins gideon scott and harper grace have done in the past have been characters from the wizard of oz allison well given his family's previous elaborate halloween get up it's safe to assume the holiday is one of his favorite times of the year he's you get to change your own physical guys to whatever you're welcome back to the embassies four million news podcast is halloween themed episode since halloween is coming in such elaborate costumes i just think it would be a lot of fun to dress up and do the pictures with fall in full swing harrison his family like to visit the pumpkin asleep i get all the peanut butter cups to myself so the it's alive broadcast is currently available to watch on facebook hi and everything about healthy living join us in our banters as we help you not just live life to the fullest live it to the healthiest the effort they put in every year to their families themed halloween costumes can't say that i blame them if i speaking of families and halloween there was a photo shoot that has gone viral on social media i saw the article patch and enjoy the change in weather to they like to be artistic and most importantly ensure the house is garnished with halloween paraphernalia more creative i would want to do that as well what else do we have in terms of halloween themed stories so didn't have a pair of a good phrase halloween paraphernalia he says we have more than a few bins now they're labeled bones body parts and bugs and it just seems like a really fun guy to hang out with and i think that his i appreciate the creativity and the supermodel heidi klum renowned annual halloween party in her city but also being in full dad mode in making sure their kids are safe trick or treating on the streets and of course putting a limit on gideon and harper's sugar intake i can't let them eat all the candy they acquire so we'll probably have to do some negotiating on chocolate he says and then once with neil patrick harris's family this is a story about a delivery nurse of she's a photograph and the insects and then a severed leg been but those were really only allowed to bring out once per year otherwise i think people might be concerned the one they think they're you know you come in january and there's a block mark severed legs as their plans this year harris and burqa are attending hello a couple of days ago on board panda and mom turned her baby into was ambi- here i like the i like the headline because it says mom answer baby into a zombie for a horror fourche photo shoot and a kid absolutely nails it she's a baby honored anyway so speaking of families and photo shoots as we were lab the capital one walmart rewards card earn unlimited rewards including five percent back at walmart online what's in your wallet terms and exclusions apply capital one guinea shared those on facebook says it perfectly captured the strong bond between them so she's quoted as saying daniel myer very sarcastic as people labor and delivery nurse her name is tiffany renfro and she shared the results of the daddy daughter shoot she gave her husband and their baby eleven month old is hilarious when i can't even wrangle her to change a diaper somedays no babies were scared in this process our children are used to the mask in-cabin love the walking dead so anything to do with them would be their dream and daniel wants to be the next michael myers gibson oakley's dream is to just have some more dunkin me session while visiting family and friends in oregon so here it is his daddy daughter session scroll through them all michael myers might just rescue this sweet zombie we are active parents that would rather be doing things with them or giving them experiences over gifts or money although they are still spoiled our kids go everywhere with an are included zombie look on her face so let's see so on social media renfrew road i must have gotten tagged in the baby it's cake oh yes so dads they're dead with his guts spilling out and baby girl is easy bloodbath pick like too many times to count i wanted to do something but wanted something original plus daniel with a little salty like margarita rim salty that i got a mommy classic horror movies are dollar cayden and he started watching the walking dead waiting day by day for the next season it's their thing mom explained they also watch dick stuff and laughing at the ridiculous props makeup and costumes used in the old classics they her way braver than i was as a kid nope that would have scared the snot out of me mm stuff looking very zombie like so she goes it runs role goes on to say i took the baby oakley to visit family in oregon my home state abe's that she wrote nobis were harmed in this process no context for us is we're edited thank you although it makes me giggle because trying to picture putting context on is not people and things on the screen aren't real i didn't particularly want the kids watching horror movies because they would be scared but they aren't they sit there picking out different artists in later but very creepy is so tiffany's husband daniel is a contract blackhawk technical inspector and has always been a big fan of he wears it to bed practically there used to dressing up an oakley as no different although she is intrigued by everything she is not scared if anything she was mad i wouldn't give her talk and then she continued writing my only dream out of all this is to reach ellen degeneres heart emoji laughing emoji and didn't use by saying it wasn't hurting them making them scared so whatever it's us my kids are sweet and loving do great in school our nonviolent level there's and that's all it matters to us everything we do we live away from family do two jobs and hong little baby what's her name oakley little baby oakley a lot of classic horror movies even gibson at five as long as he isn't violent i don't really care he isn't scared isn't traumatized by them she said their kid myers video on the net because he wears his mask all the time being funny i wanted something original and something unique these pictures are definitely original and unique any daddy daughter shoot so mind went thinking in the meantime had been tagging some December 2019 Forecast: Love & Nourish Your Joy

Thank you for being here with me on this weird wacky spiritual journey and now lets it get into the December numerology forecast so so first. Let's cover November really quick. Because I know you're exhausted. I know that you're tired. November was a month of change of up leveling of progress. And if you feel like a took a little bit out of you don't worry. Don't Fret December is your gift. December is a regrouping time. December has been placed raced here as a divine moment from your Creator to rest to you re balance and to come back into alignment with who you are and with what matters to you so listen to this. I hope that this is going to give you. chills December number six universal month which will actually get into at the end of this episode. But it's what's behind the sex that is incredibly creditably synchronous. So how do we get to the six. How do we ask down to that number? While December is the twelfth off month of the year right and this year two thousand nineteen ads down to the number twelve. So we have to twelve's and when you add these two twelve's down one plus two equals three and you had the other twelve down around. One plus two equals three so we have one two and three in both the universal universal year cycle and in this month of December so to threes added together obviously equal six. I don't think that you and I have talked about this before on the podcast but there are actually development toll phases in the number cycle K.. So numbers one two and three of which we have a whole bunch of them in December this is about developing the self. It's about you. It's about you as an individual right. The number one is about coming to terms with the fact that you exist as is a separate individual entity you have your own desires your own preferences. The number two is about being open to receive the bonds and relationships that matter to you. That are in in alignment with who you really are. And then the three is is about your voice finding and utilizing your voice and your creativity communicating in standing up for what matters to you so the numbers one two and three are about you. This is profound this is meaningful because chances are you. I have a belief still somewhere hiding in there that it selfish to come to terms with the fact that you're an individual to get to know yourself and your preferences chances are you have believed our thoughts or even people around you. That might say that. It's selfish to ascertain and figure out. What kind of bonds and relationships are in alignment with who you really are and with your values and chances are you have a belief or thought or you have people around you that might call it selfish to communicate what you need and what your joy is and what your happiness is and to stand up for what matters matters to you so your Creator placed this double twelve here in December as a reminder reminder as a gift to forget it isn't it's easy to forget? Get about you but here's the thing. Why do one two and three the development of the self come before four or five and six seventy nine which by the way our numbers about others the family community business making an impact in the world why is the development of the self? I I because you can't do any of those other things right. If you don't I have have a solid rudy in who you are and the unique gift that your Creator gave you a few. You Got Honor Yourself. I otherwise you're not gonNA make it. You'RE NOT GONNA be able to go for the long haul to go to those great and grand places to create Create Beautiful Kingdoms and beautiful worlds for yourself and others. I know you're nodding your head. I know it's hitting home Tom. This is why December is here. I can't wait to share the yearly forecast with you for twenty twenty because we're moving into the four stepping out of that development of the self and it stepping into to the world right. It's like I okay now. I'm ready to build a kingdom now. Now I'm ready to build a solid foundation for my future but the infinite intelligence behind the existence. What I call the zero the energy that is in around and through everything in your life? It's where you came from. It has put December here to say. I WanNa make sure that you commit yourself. Dedicate yourself like a knight in shining armor to what you've learned this year before you move into materializing sizing anything. Your Creator doesn't want you to build a kingdom that isn't yours so this month it's time to come home. It's time to come home to your joy and I'm GonNa talk through it right now. So if you have a notepad handy get it out if you're driving multitasking. While you're listening to this make sure to just take a note of the time stamp so you can come back the first thing that I want you to do. Is I want you to write down. What you've learned in two thousand nineteen about what makes you happy and what brings you joy? What's the first thing that comes up and it could be anything? It could be a daily routine. It could be a grand dream that you have that you're going cleaned for it could be a manifestation that you desire. It could be anything but this past last year. What have you learned about? What truly brings you joy? The second step is to come up with a list of of ways that you can love on and take care of that discovery. The six of which December is a six universal year is the archetype of the caregiver the healer and it's even the archetype of the parent of the Guardian. The SEX is one teen to protect and become responsible to something that matters and the way that it does that is through love tender lavine care. What if you were to love on nourish and feed that Choi Choi Like you love on your spouse? Your boyfriend your girlfriend your pet come up with a list of at least six ways that you can love on and feed your joy this month and I want you to remember. This is about you. You cannot Siphon yourself off from this all of these all of these ones twos is in threes is like a blaring red flashing signed from the Universe from zero saying you matter you're an essential part of the equation. This has to be something that brings you joy so come up with at least six ways that you can take care of this joy this happiness you've discovered and that is the December Berg numerology challenge. Ep 405 | Has the Whistleblower FINALLY Been Found? | Guests: Josh Hammer & Luke Macias

"Today on the news and why it matters the House has passed the resolution on it was very offensive God allowed to get into starts right now today I'm just GonNa get me a beer here we do the show joined Baxter Sorry Ben Shapiro title but that's Okay Oh that is what I just thank you so much for being here your maiden voyage on the show I'm very honored well thank our sponsor genesis nine fifty so for those of you who haven't heard we've got new puppy fees they always go on the carpet the cats when they call up the hairballs always on the fricken carpet yet okay but just wait I will have an animal sanctuary Sunday which means I have to stock what don't replace your carpets before you try genesis nine fifty genesis nine inge their carpets as well they didn't end up having to replace them and it is also green your kitchen your granite you can use it to clean anything even oil and grease stains it gets everything double on Amazon but why get it on Amazon when you can give us the credit for it the impeachment prob- I don't know that this is a surprise to anyone at this table it was then I find it interesting that this happens at the exact a place and they seemed to jam it through right on the same day so I'm so if they're actually voting and I know Josh you've probably correct me a lot better on this but from what I understand okay now you guys better start now you start gathering your evidence and then you start pointing the counselors awards and what people are saying on twitter and everything it seems to me that the House did not actually formerly vote authorizing anti I'm honestly not sure but to my knowledge all they did today was establish that there will be basic a formal housewife vote to say we are moving forward that's not what this was yeah but what's weird just making that our soul like just study what was going on and then they were all up in arms that Ken Starr which means the entire committee in Congress is taking over that position so you think about that aw there now focused solely on impeachment that's just the weirdest thing ever so then once events now we vote on the resolution it's the weirdest thing ever and I think the headline today is that there's bipartisan running against it and I loved. CBS article saying only two Democrats voted against impeaching their own members actually opposing taking further steps to think about the go go ahead I was going to say to your original question the came out and actually said this but the the way that they're setting this up Josh you mentioned says that he doesn't have the the ability to call his own witnesses and the president tweet this is the greatest witch hunt in American history and you're kind of like closing frame this closing shift firmness voting on procedural rules but as far as rain course they will yeah of course they will look this is what's going on here okay I was talking with Glen this Glen this born is present in the United States what they're doing now eleven months twelve months before an hale that is that is their base this this is a this is the prime example of a rabbit tail yep so that's all that's all they're doing here that's all that's what I what I hate about this whole process anyways the Bill Clinton impeachment I feel like we still people were at least campaigning on working I'm not going to agree with any Democrat and that's what gets you elected so it's like now we're in two thousand nineteen this is the argument or the conversation we're having right now and what's going on right now with the type of thing the MP L. A. Opening the prison to impeachment we've just I think he called it the injuries of the state now I don't even want to get into whether impeach a good thing or bad thing I mean you could argue that every I tell you one thing Adam Schiff does not want this to go to the judiciary committee yet this is GonNa take what they said now is we basically can make this more than if we feel like doing but they don't have to is that the person th- then was Ken Starr he could then be cross examined by the judiciary they do all the things that eventually came out to the inspector general he doesn't want to answer that question but he's going to have it Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats unhinged obsession with this illegitimate impeachment proceeding does ta improving health care lowering prescription drug cost securing our southern border and modernizing our aging enclosed meetings and the Democrats want to render a verdict without giving the administration this particular Congress has has introduced more subpoenas than laws oh I think that what we were talking about now is the very reason the Nancy Pelosi tried to continuing to keep this scandal alive from now until November of twenty twenty and bad news for Democrats when they wake up and realize they can't keep the story going why do you think that she finally here we have no evidence of anything let's do it here yeah jockey point is and these people who have been through many a cycle are trying as much as they can to control it I mean think about all of the reasons that they have brought forth to impeach just or something because of a tweet and then it was like well he the reason is because they don't have anything there's no there there it's a big gamble ain't that picture the the you know they don't care president did something dirty and every single republican the rest of the country the other half of the country that voted for trump I personally think it would backfire left person that's going to be it's got a shot at winning this thing that's not Pelosi's party so I don't know wants to get into when we come back to your point is welcome back to the Newfoundland matters I am focusing on us for we get back into the conversation insight trust dot com is your Go-to if you're looking to buy or to sell so move you're not going to know what the right suburb is to raise your kids to state agents I trust dot com can do for you it's super easy in all seriousness my husband after business hours to it was like eight o'clock at night when he called Jeez okay that's dedication since I trust dot com so more about this whistle blower on Mela close enough about Sharmila it's spelled he's got kind of an interesting past Jason I know that you were looking into this guy so I'm reviews with people that were like yeah I pretty much know who it is but I just can't say multiple inclusive to all of us because they just haven't they haven't put it out and then when you I mentioned this at the top of the show asking this guy questions and this is this is what the question line of questioning would be this guy worked for you work directly under Susan Rice he worked direct he worked with John Brennan so this network will know and that was a DNC operative Alexander Chalupa which we have she was right there at the beginning of that so they're working together doing God knows fired from that position for leaking for leaking information we found out that those leaks now he shows up as this whistle blower even though he wasn't even in the room the credibility of a witness means something right I mean it means a someone running probably somewhere near the top of the polls and the twenty twenty democratic base I mean it sounds a little bit conspiratorial WanNa be you don't WanNa put on to get Alex Jones seen that is not not not in line with policy rhetoric or any kind as long as it kept going the line that he thought it was gonna go as he goes up I ever get the sense that our absolutely and say well also look you've got eric whatever however seems so insane to me really this has just come down to subjectivity got more witnesses coming up Veneman who just said the same thing while I didn't think it was at the end of the day they've created the reality that they want to operate and and that's this is some type of independent investigation or indictment on improper behavior a Democrat operative who's coming out against the president but they know that that's what it is and so put think they think they have enough just in the transcript this thing for it you use the word improper I I actually think but now it comes down to all these career diplomats they're all the same the same as just the whistle with all these information like the actual like Nixon got buried when they actual audio recording came out before that it's hard for me to understand how we're having an impeachment probe on because he wanted to get something done politically is that not the same exact thing that Joe Biden said any of this is in the news as Mike Pompeo actually reminded us this morning and it pretty nice interview I thought with me or post to Ukraine that's the only reason why any of this even the news whatsoever but let's go back to really it's generally not good okay it is generally waste of taxpayer dollars at best as I literally want more strings attached or doling out foreign aid you should have to do XYZ before tax dollars kids right we dot com it's called democracy does die in the darkness Oh who knew and you can save twenty last one And if you want to hear more about Alexander Chiluba which is who jason next previous cold outside it's changed a TV subscribers not a subscriber start your free trial at least dot com okay is that really a bad thing that we actually expect foreign himself on this phone calls Linski probably not a great example of how he want this to go through but funding a foreign aid to Israel for this very reason because when people like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders Get up there leasing or US tax bars to do this so we got to be consistent on this but yeah quid pro the thing revolves around this quid pro quo and I'm going to deny this unless you give me that well the Ukrainians the city was undo this none of it happened in the end which is kind of I don't know it's just ridiculous this is the big difference between what Biden did even if he did this it gave the appearance of damaging his political opponent that he's going to be running against in the very near future change the fact that if there was corruption that happened way back when we still should uncover that we need to know this we need to know that Donald trump originally when he even talked about the quid thought was in our national interest to figure that out and I'm glad we did because we actually fingered the exact Russians this is very very similar and I think it was in the national interest for the president to fully willing to do something crazy you know like give you a bunch of a billion dollars in government money to do something for NFL call two birds with one stone you're just you can't deny that it Muzak situation has happened in every single administration they are trained politicians that know it really anything so the ones but I mean I just want to find someone who will carry Ochia with me this is the song to do it but not the new not the new ones so John Legend our good friend John Legend super-rich super offensive how dare he asked her to stay obviously agean replies I think they should rejoice she says if I have one more drink and he says you uh-huh justice brains can only hold so many industry one a lot of battles and free speech and pretty much say whatever they wanted to remember the remember the heard obviously that can those concerned with but they don't see the irony in you I can't see you can't there's only so far you can go in these certain areas this is so going to come back and bite them this along Ed She was her quote I love it 'cause she said you know bill cosby ruined it for all of us straighted because he wrote it to sing with my mother at Christmas parties when ski with his wife publicly but it's definitely not for writing a song that had to do with about it they instead you know what he meant in one thousand nine hundred eighty

Being transgender and finding support in the workplace

"We choose whether we're going to act with kindness and compassion and be part of a team. In this episode Julian Nelson a sterile processing CORETEC and Scott Gotti a specialist in supply chain management discuss the challenges that face the Trans Community and the importance of a supportive and inclusive work environment. I felt like a boy since I can remember having an opinion of myself and I'm also transgender. Man I transitioned in two thousand five and I've been pretty outon active in my community since I started make transition but I made a decision early on that I would not be out at work. I wanted to just be seen as a man and experience with that was like without a back story and You know just I just wanted to do my job and it was hard for me because I feel like I'm a person of integrity and I live my life lying and having to keep track of my lies when Julian started working and sterile processing here at Mayo clinic had been employed already for about six months and no idea he was trans. No clue so I found out about eleven months into my employment here that I have been outed and had been going on for about three months. I was now faced with this daunting decision. Do I just leave and not come back. How are they gonNA receive me? How am I going to be seen as something I'm not like? Are They GonNa see me as a man still so The one person that I knew didn't know with Scott and I felt like if he doesn't know I want to be the one to tell him so we went to his place. How did I not no did not yet now. I guess it's been going around and I hadn't heard anything it's just there's Julian you know the guy work with yeah. There was some indication that I knew. You didn't know no idea 'cause we were joking around. Yeah like we have this joky banter and love that about our relationship. There was no political correctness. I knew that he cared about me as a person and it was just part of our banter but you know here on faced with this task. I have to tell him where he's going to hear from someone else so I felt I owed it to him to tell him my story so we go to his house. And I'm really nervous. Said so Scott what I needed to tell you. Is that the rumor. That's been going around about me Which is true is that I'm transgender. And I transitioned in two thousand and five and he just looked at me and he's like all right. Dude what is come on? Really? WanNa tell me break Does not it? So what is it really so read that through me and then I went on to tell them what that was like for me and his response was the best response that I had ever heard when it came out to someone. Do you want to say yeah? I just said good choice. Because you're a dude you know. That's that's how I can't see things any differently. So Yeah Biology I'm a big believer. In fact science. Biology was run on this one. Yeah you so. Balaji was wrong. You were right trade off that so I have a question that I wanted to ask you about regarding when I came out you in the conversation we had surrounding so there was something you ask me said you asked me if there was anything offensive that you had ever said. Why did you ask me that? The reason I ask you if I said anything offensive when you came to me previously it was that you and I have a warped sense of humor. It was always politically correct right. Yeah so I. There is a very good chance I could have said something that was offensive and had not known. And you just through your tolerance it put up with it was really meaningful to me that you were thoughtful enough to to ask that. I think that's the character I also. You know not being in the community part of the community you know. I guess it was an opportunity. Educate myself as well. Because I don't know sure and I think the understanding that I bring with me today into situations comes from. I grew up in a culture where I didn't understand this either. I think that if I was completely comfortable with it I would have come out. I would have waited until his thirty nine years old so I think it's important for me to have empathy. If I'm asking that of others were all people were all human and I'm just a different variation of humanity and I really appreciate your support and understanding. I don't know that I would have such a well rounded meaningful experience here without your influence. So what challenges have you faced in previous workplaces? Some of the challenges that my community face in the workplace are If we're found out we're going to be treated differently. It could ruin any established relationships that we formed I could we could be not included. It's this non aggressive hostility. That is a big fear. to be ostracized in a place that you have to spend so much time. This is a big one for the Trans specifically the Trans Community Not being seen as a gender that you worked really hard to Live life as now For instance so people could potentially call me she and use a female name and it. The list just goes on and on so it can be a really Scary situation for us and I would imagine that lends itself to the minority stress. You talk about and it's really damaging and it takes away from a cohesive unit. I feel I feel and this is just my opinion. The distraction is behavior like that. Not Somebody like me in the workplace. I just wanted to mention the significance of of allies to our community and those would be considered people who are not LGBT. I That speak out that befriend me that set a tone in the department. That discrimination is not welcome here. And so scots role in that is even before he knew my status. He openly said that he supports equal rights for the LGBT community. And I had never in my entire life heard a non. Lgbt man make a statement. Opel openly like that that was huge. That stayed with me. And I think that it gave me a sense of safety at the time when I didn't really understand like whoa what. What was the significance ear? I mean just because I'm somebody outside the community showing support or not. Even showing support his even. Then it seems to me passive but yet just saying you know what I mean that I believe in civil rights and it doesn't matter you know what what group is. D- civil civil civil rights be similar to one another. You know what I mean. How can you not support ideas like it seems to me? The bare minimum biking that there were probably a lot of allies in different work places. I worked at but none openly said what you said when you do that you give other allies the courage to also speak up so. I really support anybody. Who's an ally of our community to just say so so that that support you know? It just isn't one-sided you know that I mean that was really important to me as well. I feel that we have a really strong bond forever because we walk through some of this stuff together and I think that Li enhance each other's lives in that way does your tolerance because of your. You know what you've experienced out you know you've had to overcome these stressors of life work. You know transitioning and literally tolerate those who weren't accepting a very understanding human being has come out of it as more out of this process that you've gone through which is allow people like myself to be able to open up and be able to speak with you About anything we've ended. That's what I'm saying it to to you know it's not just having an ally here that you have it's also the friend it's I also have that a friend you know. Where did it turn around for you that you actually saw people? Instead of a story connected to that label. I remember growing up. I grew up in a small town. Sixteen thousand people. My best friend's older brother was gay character seeing the way that his family accepted him. I don't know if you ever could have felt any other way. You know that this is not a big deal. This is the bare minimum. You know to just be the treat people with dignity and respect and once you meet a human being. I think that makes you question a story. That's been told to you for generations that this person isn't like this. I have so much in common and then it stops mattering. I find that is useful for me in not being angry with people To think back about how I felt and that I wasn't always comfortable with this. So how can I expect? Expect other people to suddenly feel that way but I like to give people a break. Even if there's somebody in my workplace who doesn't agree with you I am. Who feels is wrong or that? There is a sickness or whatever belief they have around it I do feel but I it is not my business to judge somebody's beliefs. I think that even people who feel that about me we can work together in a cohesive workplace that the basic values of treating some dignity in respect can go both ways and we choose our actions so no matter how you feel about something we choose whether we're going to Act with kindness and compassion and be part of a team so I feel very safe valued and appreciated here. A culture of inclusivity starts with you. Whether part of his certain community are not your words. Actions and behaviors are part of the experiences that shape our culture. Think about ways you can support those around you and put them into action.

Episode 159 - The True Story of hwo Sara and Bill found a lifetime of love - their soulmate

"Welcome family teachers a podcast or anyone who wants to experience healthy relationships within their family. This is Doctor Cory Gilbert and I'm honored to come alongside you to encourage educate and equip you as he focused on the different relationships Mikus family. Let's get started and focus on today's teacher. I want to tell you the true story of how Sarah and Bill Net pretty awesome. They actually were really struggling in their twenties. Stuck doing some of the same things. A lot of its do trying to find that perfect wine at the bar or a club reading a church and youth group but singles group and failing miserably. Because Dad is not how it works and it actually depending on where you find them in your standards are going to have to be compromise. Most likely and the strategies they were using. Were not working. And this is really cool. They find themselves found themselves at a seminar that I was teaching way back when pro about eighteen years ago and they learn a very different strategy very different vision for the future and the idea of standards. That's actually very important to think through who you don't WanNa marry and who you would love to be partnered with for life and so they went to this seminar. I can't remember the name of think I've actually years ago. I even called it straight talk. Which is kind of dangerous now but It was called. It's called love sex dating and marriage. Why talk through a vision of healthy sex life in marriage? And why not compromise today because you want something greater tomorrow? How conflict is a key area. That if we don't learn how to do that well. We really struggle if not it tends to sink marriage so the learning those things then they were able to come at dating and then marrying in a very different way and what's really cool as they met during that seminar and they courted in dated in very different way and they found themselves again in a very different dance with standards with rules and kind of following. What I l before those nine Kind of nine strategies. That really changed things for me and they got married and they're still married and they're doing amazing and I'm so proud of him. Yes the names were changed but remember those nine nine. I guess. Standard her Shifts that I made we go back to those your quick and just reiterate those raise your standards for who you WANNA marry. Second make sure give A others and honest affirmation or question given permission to speak into your life and give them give you their honest evaluation of whether that person's healthy for you or not and listen to him. Be careful who you listen to but Find those people have those people kind of what I call a vetting process really important commit to boundaries. Very important be intentional building a strong relationship and really the critical piece. There's a friendship and leads into that. Can you learn to play together? Laugh together enjoy each other's company do life together. 'cause will those things will sustain during some of the harder times see injured conversations that your dreams are merging naturally with. There's very important this is it's forced and if it's huge sacrifices that were that you resent later no it's going to be unhealthy and it's going to be very very dangerous. Proceed cautiously and seek wise counsel towards marriage and then do premarital in pre engagement counseling. Get that input from someone else. My wife and I did tests into books multiple books we met with multiple counsellors and most importantly we actually met with financial adviser because I had a lot of debt from medical in schooling and stuff Get on the same page. Show everything be honest. And then this last one the ninth when we in intermarriage all in for life you don't know what's around the corner from my wife and I we found out or within eleven months after our wedding. I'm in the hospital in fighting for everything you don't know so bless you bless your future marriage. I would love to be on that journey with you like that seminar that I taught that I still teach. I'd love to actually get on the phone to help you strategize and think through what you're doing wrong. Maybe what you can do better and how. They isn't a set of games in crazy rules but most often we're the ones getting in the way of God writing our love story of guide doing something that makes no sense for the journey of my wife and I how we went from meeting through online dating service equally yoked DOT COM in Dallas Texas area. To married. Ten months later is beyond me. The Slim 400 Interview

"No jumper cools podcasts in the world and today i'm here with my bro big swing four hundred how you feel number should i'm cool man oh you know blessed last time i seen euros in europe should i wanna say exactly my her although you know that's a place you know the summertime hank i'll give my thoughts together and you know just chilis among some level a i should've known the you're too smart pillows port to the place where you layer head i mean that's what then life i mean you gotta be on a swivel you you've ever had so you got the fucking ellie lifestyle mastered throwing nobody pull up the way we russia had a i mean you know got caught up with a twist a couple of times you knock on wood but you know i'm a i'm a liver salvage mm though i could go around that now okay 'cause i experienced any went through it you write a that was a crazy time to cause those when you just got into it in long beach that feels like ancient fucking history now yeah no i mean you know that's that's my whole plan i go down in history in a sense of alleging peer so knock on wood again i just say like i gotta keep it 'em fold on it throughout my whole career in a sense of like just real you know i mean give it up people yeah i mean my fans and my my my my family is my daughter like the real don't hold back and make wise decisions within a certain time of that low point can you lose it right then and there that facts we don't really go super deep into your backstory of where you're coming from and stuff what you were born in compton where you wanna be wary of is crazy with a i was born in germany one at frankfurt germany bro right yeah wow hops with a military road in my mind made up in high school allen company a firm there he joined a force and she flew out with a main created me things go right when i'm tired i'm about eleven months when i turn to eleven going into one i'm getting past force together you know as a child little baby come to the uss you know i've been i've been almost rosedale center span world traveler the young of an age you know so but i do remember like the traveling part of his this all when you were so young our so yeah yeah where certain things that in like like i understand what's going on or why are we doing this but for the most part gins account the is saying certain things and knowing this my other part of the family in these my real family members and camp folks i just got tired out oh care about letter that ship back there right yeah it's about what's going on anybody ever charges against you 'cause i heard people talk like oh he he's not from l la heat from the valley shit life come from the streets to stand in front of section they don't say that that's negativity whatever the case may be at the end of the day as a man or as a woman or just being on is like you a baby boy like just being born like you can't predict where you go be born that but when you get to where you add in you realize this is life now what you're gonna do you say you make you you you're gonna make up your mind right then and there now so my mom was made up right down spruce from there is slow photonic was a reuss the street then you move to yes okay yes that's where you spent that's where you you took in the scenery of late in life and learn what what's going on here with did inevitable then you're gonna end up wrapped up in the streets are how how did that happen oh yeah you could walk out and they young living right so it would just like i choices you take bigger problems in the air force right so few indifferent sorta dude he's and or in the army yeah but we see a different type of dude 'em now i feel like 'em he's in a blue side you feminine you know he was kind of within the streets to but took another path and that path in my heart i when i read that was when my mom and move the company or not i don't feel like the order for me period so i had no choice but to be my mom in as more and more being with my mom and in that in that in that area if you got me if any of certain things happening you is what it is you always have the gift of gab yeah 'cause you're a talker i yeah i i wanna live uva or a minute you're very whenever a kid or when you first start rob when i was a key though they are being stuff so i used to be like damn i can't i can't i can't get in trouble today i i'm trying to say she tomorrow right so i had the lie that day a lot this ad is became a hat borough case that live shrooms as well but now for the most part as you get older you see certain certain things and you know you you you you become you know what i mean like certain africa's because that was thrown at you 'cause license trip that's what you becoming a man with a lot more you very honest with this woman tell her the truth speakerphone is keeping mind what you're daria family everything else is gonna fall in place don't get the row i heard a lot of people say the the key to life is the never lie always be up front so the people always know that you're being real with them about whatever it is you're saying and the really any benefit you might feel like you're getting in short term from lying is not really worth it because of the hit two you're credibility that you're gonna take in that moment when people realize that you're willing alive whether it's domestic situation smoother easier to avoid unpleasant conversation whatever it is but that's not really but there is no real benefit the line what do you think you know you you you actually correct because you a lot of cover up things that the the day you're making it worse let her own so once you put in that that little corner little hole and you can't do nothing about it and it's like damn you stuck that's why i was once upon a time so i just had to just you're just gonna just suck it up and once i set it up and did my thing i feel like fucking be honest be let's be honest right and i feel it hard right now being honest in front of the time i started in being honest with myself for to my peers i'm i'm better with myself in making more moves where it's been a fish you maybe definitely yeah and it's weird to be a rapper because as a rapper it's like you the people just want you to give them the real should they want you to come out and tell them everything about what's going the streets etc but then as you as a person who grew up in the atmosphere obviously like what's the number one seat you don't talk about all the shows and shit like that ass out and they'll go so so people won't that i feel your but me being me keep my name alive and gotta keep going with the with the everyday politics and really put it up but you said or whatever the case may be i'm a band bodies rules and info go to talk about 'cause you're gonna have another situation i wanna beard and that ain't cool right in already know that so i stay for officer shit dude i know i gotta do i'm always with ship because my lifestyle so i gotta take myself so it's the same way you move you very like we all know that you know there's a lot of people who carry guns you never see the gun and there's a lot of people who carry guns their pet is all you see is that you just see it on instagram nonstop didn't give a fuck out here put them some on blast see me i'm kind of moving different now i used the party that knucklehead something like that starting my career wrote i had some type of property or i mean that that that proper paperwork and shit like that but as you move and the game you get that you meet people in the road you meet people within you'll you'll management of your your copy of your yo day today people would act and help you because they got a pilot so when you see me it's like somebody close with that because they're certified semi now i know street shit that style me that it gets you sue ties vira you know can you look at like a young rapper coming up and you see him with a bunch of guns in their video the first thing that popped in my head is like we should probably talk to them when we see him telling me you gotta watch out the cops you're gonna be all remember that shit i gotta say and i used to be me okay go like that and i do that let me switch the conversation of first second i saw in wanting a new videos but there's like a scene where you're in the corner store store and you see nipsy on the cover of the newspaper and that's like in your video was that relationship like how'd you how'd you meet in movies you're you're in this knowledge and how is a you know like as we all know watching my rosso him in that link lincoln up and you know having that relationship and doing their thing in a sense of rap and they had a song you bitches shit in 'em you have come to the you know do is low saying it'd be a part of the homeys you know him being older would us knowing you know we power rules and you know he had corrupt and they were six so 'em it would just a natural filler soon because he really frustrated we from the streets over just a natural given thing that we a spirit within nipsy infirm they're just went on so me saying that within a video it will just like damn like it just kind of took me back recording my video like like bro gum disease like like i know bringing that back so the marathon continue whatever he told me are personal conversations are texas here and there it was just positive is motivated slammed thing so when when when i see now picked it up and is kinda is blanked out real quick you have the state back to it in finished my video but streets is crazy man how's doing the interview with big casserole and sixties you other day we were having a conversation and he was talking about 'cause he's also he's much older and he's not really like around that environment as much anymore and he was saying that when he was coming up that it was like on thinkable that that bloods and crips will be doing songs together and everything it took him a while even be able to get used to the idea of seeing two people from different sets on camera together 'em would that even like consideration or was like the y g and nipsy friendship already so sean by the time you you met him but it was just saw all of and i feel like for the time we may all love more so mom just bitterness and today time in are air we look at it as business so you could still feels gang and really be on your tip and do you think like that's what it is and we we support that 'cause mommy i'm gonna be whatever you wicked that's my boy but for the most part no that me in a couple of other do for my safe in his own business when they hang with us this conduct yourself and kinda fashionably order matter you because you could get blackball you some saying or blackmailed or however you wanna say broke as the game you know what i mean like it's kinda shaky but i wanna be around none of that so when you hanging out here doing his bidding shit keep the business that seems like why'd you went way beyond business though because he seems like he had a really really ridiculously closed bama new seasonal postal nonstop since he passed like do you feel like you were hanging with a person so lonely really becoming that right hand man or that's really my bro it regardless of the streets and regardless of politics you in your heart for like that's my borough so for that to be a loss i took in he's no longer in like i say this is probably how it hurt you femi in regard the view from that could not if you really can't tell them what that bro multiple years like it's a certain feeling you get you femi rather you will from it could not you me right that's what i'm saying i'm feeling like you speaking oh you feel what what's the impact on the city ben like from from the nipsy thing like have you have you seen anything like it a lot of people talking about the never seen any any now has affected a city like this it was a wakeup call fair via loss angeles california you very the whole county which is like shock 'cause you know you got rappers would then when you got a certain poetic rapper that spit the the shit right it's like damn and you just keep dwelling so it was hard so for the bihari body it would just some moments where it was like a ceasefire sees the seats that like we just don't give into this and go do like this and it may impact 'cause everybody else around the world doing it right and doing anything while i came to bed at night owner news and how you've seen it should only be and how you've seen it on instagram is like a big so you give it up for a person that did the moles within his community to make a better chains you fairly yeah i think that situation in journalism you think a lot about what people are gonna think about you once you're gone you know 'cause i never seen anything like the way people talk about nipsy like so many people they talk about him like a god like huge is helped so many people put so many people on days like i never heard anything like that really makes me think about it on that what the truth is truth in you can't go around that but it how you say it is so much shit going around best nipsy this nipsy that it'd be like damn it did make me think like knock on wood like when you go home you give mode and love and it's crazy am that's the the the the the heartbreak you filming 'cause they got here fitness tanto down payment every day in doing a fourth famous daughter day day in getting the love but you still gonna make it through obstacles you've made but when you deceased and you go vote is dead to the world hey this is like that's the sad part in it's fifty fifty broke his red is real estate get a delivery man so say crazy i know i think about all the time it's just like nipsy is kind of like the definition of somebody who is making amazing mazing music for like ten years and yeah like definitely got his props he definitely had a lot of respect and everything but he never really never felt like people gave him is his flowers like people always say that they don't give him as flowers while still smelling and if he's looking looking down right now he's probably like holy shit like he may even though he probably knew the his career and his music mental lots of people during that time period he probably would not have known that the morning in his past and would have been is as crazy as it's been you but no everybody heart gotta feel and just bang appear rather you a person that this lack of more really hang with him like it would just the music but then when he spoke and hi brian see time and you get up and go get you a bag here morning you're gonna have a hard time ups and downs so as as artist is row we miss that you think we we bounce off each other in a gang euphemia he did it like this i do like that he gave me this said i'm sure he did this i'm gonna do that it just the game is the rap gave us hip hop so when you got a certain leader that no longer there somebody's gotta be the leaders you send me so kanki dwelling can't keep tripping but you always remember like the times in the moments in that man a state how trays man if they had any strange they wanna fuck that dfl around do you think felt like the overall level animosity or the people killing each other the people hating each other do you think has actually in a in a more long term since since it's been a few months do you think that has actually gone down a little bit since new jersey's passenger do you feel like shit just as as wild lo's man i i feel like crime wait crime rate in the sense of a percentage wise i feel we we drop because as young men right now in young women as you see a focus on her bags you say we got we got family so we got we got people the feeding that look a tool is so instead of doing negative thing that we do any streets some famous since arriving in shooting killing what are we doing whatever the case may be within your life or the life changing their semi 'cause you're getting older and what you're gonna do so likes them down and make it a career so make your brain your everything make this week that you pushing everything everything in after everybody is woke up and see it now so we moving different in it's a good thing to me is a while for you to just see the marijuana business thing becoming a real opportunity whereas when you were a kid that was away the catch case will be caught up there's not a legal business opportunity i feel like i said and our generation is so bad it now because year back in the day with the catch case yeah you could go to jail the homeys did this and you ain't gonna say a couple of months year or whatever but now it's like legal interviewing talking about yourself take it to be legal you still want that case you wanna do this so is given to you if you could go around in things smart you're gonna be the same used that song you so it's a blessing borough like i say borough like tell me about a lot of bad things going on in the world but it's a lot of good things to if you're smart enough to go go get it tell me about your brand 'em you push it like i say speaking of raw fair sharla there we go now i got the i got a little pre road also said i got the calls bro which added home ice water it's like a a skater flavor okay like the actual candy cabin hand my boy like rudy like i have my shit smuggler like this and tyson like this okay in dc has packaged you like hold up right now and check this thing out because i mean somebody like you i feel like you know the whole marijuana legalization shit is kind of a an issue like who is gonna end up being the ones that actually make the money from this shit as all these new businesses are created is gonna be corporations or gonna be some of the people who were the people who were catching cases were around that environment or at least worth a racist bro is big business some famous left behind a step in the building corporate money you make a period of about prop sixty four the knowledge that you give me in every marijuana shop there is here with improv sixty four paperwork and has said getting the legalized and you man i got the firearm he legalized like everything is legal paperwork black and white everything is strikers they're gonna wanna take you down they wanna stop doing business they don't wanna stop everything you're doing because for me i feel like they're like 'cause i'm black when i came with think negative it'd be awesome bush i'm getting older man smarter so get illegal slim do this do that first promoted this is a hard for you to focus on stand on the legal side of life has now asked me you gotta think if you wanna be i already streets layers ceo you'll grow up in a who she is who he gonna become life you better be smart about it because if you ain't you stupid dumb men don't blame it on your mom i don't blame it on you folks don't and i'm hanging in the hip blaming yourself 'cause you got shown twenty four hours a day both have you ever had anything that happened to you that really made you wanna change your life because i feel like you're a person who in you're younger years was properly really really really wild wild bird the bird you know what i just you know idea whatever for the money and it just became addicted so at the end of the day when you go through all that some where the laura gonna slow you down in you know like i got shot up bro when they may right when i graduated high school i'm talking about like three months at the high school okay so from there which is okay boy you're gonna be dead here what'd you do so you slow up and just start thinking smarten doing smart shit being with the same homeys hanging with the same crew but this thinking wiser you still don't do you but just do it a different way now borough what is the situation like when you got shot it was a panic mode oh is really happening in the house it you're gonna die smashed my fucking car at their my shit got there they passed me a back industries like a week a week yeah so wasn't to devastating devastating are different you of like physically where'd you get a shot at my or my my bag okra yeah i mean in a whole town is i'm just thinking like damn i i don't see my mom or dad what's happening you fill me all is going through my mind as these people talking to me talking about how great you know what's what's going on so i just kept a they do what they do thank them on the main lining alive robyn so long ago but they do what they do they did their job so in my are nowadays i just think do my job is i'll give it to the people i'm going to the public i'm giving my friends my family i'm doing my job within like guy might be by his chad mhm here we're already wrapping at that point when you were like eighteen yeah you could say that in my shit together on you know get tighter and tighter were you were you already envisioning yourself having a rap career yeah okay yes i did but you weren't very far along at that point i'm guessing a we were getting shot something that made you wanna get serious about the music as opposed to it is made you want it is do different things and you look at life different i mean 'cause at that moment to so fast even though you've been doing all this last year and the year before at that moment it's like a it's a life or death you don't know how tragic it is but in your mind you think about a family if you're gonna stay alive if you if you got some money on the table is something you feel you think about everyday 'cause that's what life is like there once you go all that shit just keep going right so once you leave is like okay i get it together about what you're gonna do how'd you meanwhile former sex in a you know i'm doing media doing him my my my low relative is a big buddha also that's that's that's his his home his rise to the get a real fruit is also music shinhan mayor we this turned out in ohio today thank you all right that's crazy 'cause when i met you i didn't know him but then sent she had been pulled to the studio and mustard ashley got the same recordings shit yeah i feel like 'em why she had been around for years i feel like bam popping when he got this shit lit in a sense of like like like the old school shit's a new day in time in what the beatles on call you some say it's a long career for her relatively young guy like nick is going up like nancy him they bring everything together so others you shut up my burrowing you know go do what i gotta do as a man 'cause in are crew is like we are bosses we are negative stuff saying so if you from that generation firm that circle you branch out and go do you own shit so when we look at each so there's like damn has created some shit yeah when when you think about how do you think about who's the king of la like design an important conversation as far as the rapture there's so many people here in is a lot of artists is as really doing their thing you can do and they got a bus or disrespect so there's video that like i said earlier do your job patio business and you're gonna stand out when the fans and the publican people talk about that's what they're gonna talk about me party as a man i don't i don't be oh he'd better than him or i like him better life that ain't my place he something like i'm focused on doing another song and making a hit us up and that's where my mind that period all other shit is petty senior most recent couple of videos on youtube seems like mine's been on the booty i'm gonna be honest with you for making a whole bunch of booty lately i'm keeping honey i'll be like sex sells you know what i'm saying so with insects ellen i'm gonna give it all i got you know which one if i got this poster opposed by eight doing video should day saint pitches this email a cetera et cetera single pitch to this number but we haven't shit me my boys i look at these pictures and see who the one kharlamov tack they follow and see what they know 'cause i don't like party poopers i don't like they just don't say that some shit in style and they let me go keep my shit going high planned it so she like lives around the street somebody you really got problems with you might be a bit bad in that spot straight up by a i i but i feel like you know you being a sign wide gene everything that makes sense 'cause he's always been like a gangster rapper who's always been really really good at knowing the line of being able to make hit being able to make a sexual assault on being able to even like right now like that go local shit you know he was able to find a fucking style fit into a world as devon the his usual world is that like what you're thinking in terms of that like you just saw it as an opportunity like this a lot of people trying to make music for girls the dance doing shit like that but still gangster is it's a show opportunity but more so which is when you listen to a certain beat you may give you seven field in just knowing they already told me as a sort of an artist i want it they already told me in a box that cold gangsta rapper in tedious talk about the streets in up iceland we don't do it like this is very fees just dumb voting voting voting and that's how it is k with a fucking and i'm gonna keep thinking as i'm a show someone for whoever's out there like down talking otherwise if any of my anger about that that's why that's why i spit it like that and do some good but like i know i got open now my horizons and you know be on another level so that's what the fuck you won't get a bit of a game with the fuck you well bitch holo how much of a bill are in real life that i wonder how much of a thought argue in real life like are you living up to the music in your private life like are you really addicted the ass like that or are you a little bit more rain light light who don't like voting in the states would i speak on in in my rats like me being a real do like i have a certain situations in life bros so you gotta know how the slamming know how the pull up to the forefront of beer bottle so it's a certain way in a certain time you do everything you've ever have you ever thought about a getting into the business of selling postseason persa come on man you i admire him or do i want isabel stone live haven't i mean me personally like i know but i ain't gonna say i even thought about it but a year my larry's it's cold related businesses bragging rights of then no cases here so very good while the starting pitcher slipping there oh how good that we'd is right now but i mean okay hypothetically you know that there is a lane for that there there's girls who need management per say hypothetically in another life if you are assigned rapper and everything could you imagine yourself living that lifestyle of actually having a stable of girls of actually being able to like just put them to work on the basis like you do you have the personality types of that yeah i feel like i do it in another fashion that slight flavor loves you so i'm saying and all that shit that's the same thing they doing but in another pimping way put in a gang of women in the house incredible doing whatever you wanna do you mean you're in a sense of i brainwashing i mean like doing what you're doing every buying house is bringing something to the table you so saying submitted don't wind up doing nothing so that's the one is go ahead and just go and give me the cash you need this biz don't mind cleaning up oh i like her that is how i go so in a sense yeah i got let me say i could to whatever you already do with all that other shit come on man i'll look at it like that and you is different strokes for different folks perry i mean i could imagine these days like the the hot as instagram girls have basically like rappers i could easily imagine creating like a label this is how it's gonna come down and then you sign a bunch of instagram models slash porn stars last whatever and then you just monitor has all kinds of different shit that that's going to do brown which is do that come out and unique jackie contract expires on but i mean you could really do that and it's a new game you know because it's if it comes to signing rappers while that's the whole problem is that this very competitive there's a lot of labels johnson happens these girls assigning women let's sign him come out team come out pay yeah by now too i got in my mind pimping might be illegal but there's a lot of ways demonetized a woman's capabilities outside of hemp and that's just one as one she choose to do that cool whatever that thing is what it is you still need percentage but you don't know nothing about it right but i mean there's a lot of different ways if she could make money she hosts parties she could sell shit instagram she could do i know a girl who started the dick pills company so she's out here looking hot on instagram and then she's also saying swipe up the by these pills that'll make you dick work better that's a hustler got anything like why why above all gangs i esl above hustle how many hours per week you spend looking at export bitch explore how it's called me like all of this poor pays bro okay like identity look at instagram really i just posted my shit and get off but from time to time i might have a little downtime i might be waiting for some shit or and in line getting some she says officers went on labor day but other than that all is strictly right there like wake up gold asleep like that's out i got other things do you mean conductors we should write these bars go make this money the the print so most cds you some said i got three of them i my my little type i'm britain cds he's on fringe shirts like i'm in traffic pulling up on you i wherever it is you're up early in the morning work and you're also hold in early october like seeing that eleven okay i have my early right you want it same i got up at nine and fills early it's fucking slug people talk about giving up like more gross you gotta keep the goal yeah yeah i gotta get that workout in the morning to am addicted to that now you're in the gym and not yet shots of shit man as case they dedicated borough and it's gotta be there my i might i might add some booty right there so you might need your personal trainer the looks good the c i have my boy you've heard me mention his name as of right now borough 'cause i wanna feel like like speaking on him and i keep keep going so they his for his mouth fall but he was my personal to him but i feel bad because the traveling and the bs shows and having meetings in promoting my tape and all type of stuff like that so it made it hard but i assume that land go right to do that but they don't do that as a dedicated come in at the dedication about so you're lucky is folks because you fucking skinny regardless so you don't you don't gotta like like you probably don't look in the mirror and you're not matter how you look myself over the years has been various times i looked in the mirror and i was like oh hell no this is not okay you look disgusting you gotta get it together you gotta get in the gym you gotta eat right i i i have wani bro yeah i know that you've got those good genetics lingering effect it's gonna take a lot and i'm i think i'm pushing it now pushing it again as close as possible how'd you end up being a yacht feature 'em him hitting yellow on instagram about basically like april i like what you're doing real based on a lie he wrote that in my dm while i'm like hold on just a real when no pay that my okay that's him back in with like my bracket like you know like look what wherever you when when you freedom pulling up for sure i might be overseas gimme a week on what i'm pulling up so once he got back he hit me i put up name a mayor no stayed out there for like three days daddy like that song borrowing gave me the rice put it but now that ship are like fuck which he's always been really good at recognizing of income and town and i've always noticed that about him he's a he's a lot of people who who have blown up he was like the first person of significance to do a feature within just 'cause he reached out almost like joe let's do something shocking to me brian gonna lie but that is already like like i said i open my horizons like vs being on what they think of in what they want me to be the opposite you're kind of like the opposite of like that's going standout you've heard me what do you think you're fans want from you just did this can't be real you mean the way i've been in keep doing the same stuff i've been doing broke his heart i'm changing for the better but for the public and the people you can't change that maybe they always gonna be in love with this though is do better and keep going you do you ever feel like the laker fan base doesn't wanna see truly grow they always wanna see talk in the street should the gang should the that's where every rapper but no one's own or saturday sound or you deal with a certain person it so that's gone open eight miles that now in a sense of now they see what you're doing you send me so it's not like battle but like if you want it to make music though is just ridiculously positive but you still have to like even it out to be related with them you know like visually reach a new man makes it sound i see Adventures in Puppyhood: The Adolescent Brat Period

"Welcome to canine nation. It's sunday. April twenty eighth twenty nineteen. This is episode one thirty four. Welcome to the podcast everyone. This is Eric Brad. You know, one of the great joys for me of being a dog owner is bringing home that fluffy little bundle of joy that we call the puppy at eight or nine weeks of age, they seem to be full of such potential, and there's so many adventures that lie ahead. And if I'm honest, there's nothing I enjoy more than starting to fill that little puppy brain. And watching them. Discover the many wonderful things in the world around them for the very first time. It's fascinating and fun to watch a puppy, grow and develop. And then one day everything seems to get just a little crazy. I guess it's the same with parents and children that time when they're little ones begin to grow up and turned into teenagers dealing with teenagers can be frustrating mostly because they can be. So predictable. And the same is true with our Puppy's. Once they reach adolescence. There are some changes that will need to take place. Not just physio logical changes, but changes in their brain. And our dogs attitude about life and the world around them we've raised a lot of dogs over the years and each one brings its own unique challenges. So I thought it might be interesting to pass on some advice from our journey through the adolescence of our own dogs. And I wrote it all down in an essay that I call adventures in puppyhood the adolescent brat period. There really is nothing quite like the blank stare of an adolescent Belgian shepherd puppy. It was time for me to leave the house, and I had to put our young dog Rizzo in his crate for a couple of hours while I ran some errands, and so cookie in hand as always I beckon him from across the room and Rizzo in that adorable way that teenager Belgians do just blinked his big Brown eyes at me as if he had never heard human speak before it's hard not to laugh at times like that. But I was actually in a hurry that day. Fortunately for me, but unfortunately for Rizzo. This wasn't my first time to this particular rodeo, this was the classic adolescent. Let's see what dad does behavior. So I did what any good Belgian shepherd puppy owner would do the unexpected. I broke off a piece of the cookie wondered over. To him and gave it to him for free that baked his little noodle. He happily crunched and swallowed. And then I showed him the rest of the cookie and said in your home, and he trotted right into his crate where he happily eight the rest of the cookie while I grabbed my keys to go. Things often change in the behavior of young dog as they reach adolescence sometimes radically this happens somewhere between nine and eighteen months of age Rizzo was no exception at eleven months old. He was just starting to try on his big boy pants to see what he could get away with this abrupt change in his behavior when interacting with us, and even with other dogs might have been something to worry about if we were not prepared by some education and lots of experience. Instead of fussing and fretting over this behavior change, we just buckled in for the ride through this next phase of rizzo's development. Puppies of a certain age like detests things at a lesson. Puppies liked detest, everything behaviors you have spent months training and getting great results with suddenly stop working well-known cues that used to be your go-to tricks for showing off start failing. And even the simplest requests. Like sit are often met with a blank stare. Fortunately for me resort was my wife's dog to train. You see we switch off as the primary trainer with each new dog. Although we do share training duties in the house. It was her job to teach new behaviors I would just work with what she had already trained, for example. My wife had taught resort to sit and then to wait for a release cue from that sit before we let him go outside or before coming back inside when Rizzo hit his adolescence. It was fun to watch. If I would say, sit my older dog Thira would immediately put her butt on the floor, while Rizzo would just look at me as if I just spoken Mandarin Chinese, so we would wait I would wait for resort to sit and Rizza would wait to see what I might do next. If he doesn't sit. It's test. What I do in response to that test is important after months of training Rizzo. It was now his chance to take what he had learned. And try to train me believe me, it can be hard not to take that personally. So why would my dog need to test me? What possible reason could he have for not doing what I have trained him to do especially if we had rewarded him frequently for it in the past. Well, this is where our own humanness can get us into trouble. It's not necessarily about us. There's a lot going on for an adolescent dog leaving the hormones aside for the moment, although they are an important component of this. The world is becoming a much bigger place for a young dog approaching. Adulthood, not only have their senses fully developed to take in that larger world, but their experiences and training have likely given them the confidence to get out and explore new sites. New sounds new smells and new encounters can be very distracting to a dog. And it may seem that they are often preoccupied with things that you can't understand and. They probably are. And then there's the sheer joy of using that newly developed dog body with the awkwardness of their puppy frame becoming a thing of the past. Most young dogs are eager to get out. And see what they can do is it any wonder that an eleven month old dog is straining into leash. They are feeling a new confidence in fully developed limbs and balance they want to run like the wind simply because they can. There's also a mental component here too. Just like human teenagers. Young dogs can get curious about how they can affect their environment for months, we've been showing them the ropes and training them in all kinds of behaviors. But now what happens if the Doug does this? Instead of that your dogs responses to you can become very puzzling. During this period, it's their turn to change. The variables and see what happens. The important thing to keep in mind is that it's not personal. It can seem sometimes like my dog is just trying to get me. Angry just being contrary. It can be very tempting to ascribe human emotions like defiance or stubbornness or even sulking to my dog. But that can be a trap that leads to no good end. Instead, take the advice of animal trainer. Karen prior. Who said it's not personal. It's just behavior. One complicating factor in all of this adolescent Hayes is that most dogs go through fear period around this time, it's tied to all of those hormones. I mentioned earlier it's a natural part of maturing sexually. The difficulty with these fear. Periods is that the sudden change in behavior can cause us to react with concern. And if we don't know what to expect it can cause some unfortunate behavioral side effects in the dog that we might not want. An example of this is often called coddling by some trainers and refers to our human attempts to sue the young dog when they suddenly seem terrified for no apparent reason by this stage in their development, especially if you've done a lot of marketing reward training or other operate training with your dog. They are aware of cause and effect how you react to their actions will have an impact on whether or not certain behaviors will or will not be repeated. An uncertain dog will take comfort from your attention and guidance if that Doug discovers that cowering or jumping as if startled draws your full and focused attention from you as you bend down to say Reseau, what is it? Honey, his something scary. Well, that can be a wonderful reward for a dog Rizzo might just put that behavior on his list of things to try again when he wants a tension. It's important for the handler to assess the situation and be aware of the environment. When they're adolescent dog is demonstrating these fearful behaviors it's important to see if there's any real and legitimate reason for the dog to be showing fear. If there is it's best to simply handle the situation calmly by removing whatever it is that is upsetting your dog. If there doesn't appear to be anything that should be upsetting the dog chances are they are either just being jumpy or feeling insecure and want to get your attention in this case, it's best to just give the dog some confident reassurance without making a big production out of things. You're okay, buddy. And a Pat on the head should be sufficient what you're trying to do is let the dog know that there's nothing to worry about. And you know it. Navigating successfully through rizzo's adolescence was a lot like flying an airplane. We just had to stay vigilant. Watch what was going on? And most importantly, we didn't make any big sudden changes in how we interacted with him while Rizzo seem to inexplicably stare off into the distance. When I asked him to sit I had to resist the temptation to repeat my request. If I did I would run the risk of letting him know that he only has to sit after the fourth time. I say it similarly if he ran barking to the door, it wouldn't do me much. Good to start yelling at him. Chances are result would think I was yelling with him. Not at him doing the human equivalent of barking the same is true. If we were on a walk, and he suddenly wanted to jump up into my arms in fear at the approach of an oncoming Chua. There's really no reason for him to show a fearful reaction in this case. So. My best response would be to act like nothing's wrong and to continue with only some quiet reassurance. More than we like to admit I- dogs. Take many of their emotional cues from us. We are the ones they spend most of their time with. So it only makes sense that they would look to us to see what is worth being upset over. And what isn't we do our best to keep that in mind, especially when our young dogs behavior? Confuses us those first reflexive reactions are not necessarily the best. So we always try to be prepared and to think things through before we act. More than anything. What has worked for us in raising? Our dogs has been staying. The course we know what we've trained, and we know our dogs well enough to recognize any legitimate health issues, if they should arise by the same token, we're careful to manage their lives until they are adults and capable of dealing with things on their own. So we don't do things like leave our young dogs out in the backyard on attended for hours on end or let them off leash at strange parks where they could get into trouble without us nearby. As Rizzo tried on his big boy pants to see what mom and dad might do. We were ready to do our best to keep things on an even keel. We had tricks of our own to interrupt his little experiments in behavior. We didn't take his little tests. Personally, a reactions to them were more often amused than they were angry. The thing we always keep in mind is that the laws of behavior operate and classical conditioning are working each and every day, whether we acknowledge them or not it's better to stay aware of them and use them to our advantage. If we can getting angry and demanding what we expect would likely only produce unintended behavioral fallout and bad associations. Instead, we would just shake things up a little bit and try again. Rizzo has grown into a wonderful dog. We managed to get through all of his adolescent shenanigans with only a few episodes of frustration. But I won't lie to you. It took vigilance and willpower. The adolescent phase takes anywhere from eight to fourteen months to pass the important thing during that time is to manage things and not take it all to personally. I'm happy to report that everyone survived results adolescence and are now living mostly happily ever after. The debate over witnesses in Trump's impeachment trial

"The following was recorded at four PM eastern time american delta to united america's big three suspend flights in and out of china over fears of the corona virus there are still many unknowns frankly scientists including myself and more or less all scientists who are studying this at the moment are also trying to understand how severe is this i'm carol hills today on the world we hear what it's like in in wuhan ground zero for the new virus plus as iowa prepares for the caucasus cybersecurity experts head to the state because it's low tech way of choosing a presidential candidate candidate is not immune from high-tech shenanigans cox's are confusing this is high stakes one that makes them great targets for disinformation misinformation and thirty years ago today mcdonald's opened in moscow when a big mac cost half a day's pay ahead on the world i'm carol hills this is the world it ain't over till it's over folks the impeachment trial of president donald trump is in its tenth day the senate is hearing arguments over whether to consider hearing from witnesses in the trial meanwhile fresh information is being reported from the book manuscript a former national security adviser john bolton the world's chris wolf with me and he's following the story chris what's the latest from the senate floor what we've heard impassioned arguments from democrats today over whether to consider hearing from witnesses this isn't admitting new evidence for the prosecution if you want to call it that his house manager val dealings is this a fair trial without the ability to call witnesses and produce documents the answer is clearly and unequivocally no that's the key argument from house manages today without documents some witnesses there's going to be a permanent asterisk next to this acquittal in the history books questioning its validity a little bit more of a dispassionate kind of argument from the president's residents council arguing the house mismanaged the entire process here's patrick philbin and in our legal system civil and criminal sides there's a way tayside right up front in some quick way whether there's really a triable issue whether you really need to go to all the trouble of calling in new witnesses and having more evidence evidence in something like that and there's not here there's no need for that so what's this new scoop regarding john bolton to uh revelations today according to the new the new york times i that in his book manuscript john bolton says he was instructed by the president himself in early may of two thousand nineteen to join the campaign to pressure ukraine to launch these two investigations into the biden's and into the crowd strike conspiracy theory that shows the president isn't directly involved two months earlier than previously thought the second revelation is that other men were in that same meeting and therefore in the loop regarding the pressure campaign and that these he's included none other than pat cipriani the lead attorney on the president's defense team in this impeachment trial making him a potential witness in a normal trial that would be a breach of witness advocate separation so but doesn't look like it's going to have an impact on proceedings president trump has already denied the allegation so when will we know oh about witnesses whether they'll be any well the debates underway right now should last until about six PM eastern time it's quite likely there will be a roll-call soon after that that could there could be delays but the smart money's on a vote tonight as to the outcome that seems somewhat easier to predict never say never in politics but it's looking increasingly likely that the democrats will fail they need to stay unanimous and get the support of four republican senators and from public statements from those search GOP senators they simply don't have the votes we heard from lamar alexander of tennessee last night that he was against witnesses and just this afternoon lisa murkowski of of alaska came out and joined him as well but we should note the tenor of some of the statements coming from these republican senators as the trial starts to wrap up lamar alexander said if the democrats have proven their case that the president acted inappropriately and that it but his qualification was in reason for voting no on witnesses is that it doesn't rise to the level of impeachment interestingly marco rubio of florida when even further in a statement he wrote this quote just because actions meet a standard ended of impeachment does not mean it is in the best interest of the country to remove the president from office and he added determining which outcome is in the best interests sts requires a political judgment one that takes into account both the severity of the wrongdoing alleged this is from senator marco rubio but also the impact removal would have on the nation he's he's acknowledging that there was wrongdoing just as lamar alexander said there was inappropriate behavior so some GOP senator seemed to be putting down markers the trial wraps up in an effort to try perhaps and chasing the president warned him against future inappropriate actions wow the world's chris wolf thanks for the update you're welcome carol around fifty million people in the central chinese province of who they are now effectively held in quarantine the capital of who bay is wuhan john the city where the corona virus was first detected foreign governments including the US are organizing flights out of the city for their citizens from corona virus there now nearly ten thousand reported cases in the country three only about one hundred have been reported outside of china but yesterday the world health organization declared it an international public health emergency now three major ager US airlines have suspended flights in and out of china us despite the fact that the head of the WHO recommended not doing so US authorities also announced that any foreign for national who's been to china in the past fourteen days will be barred from entering the country that rule will apply starting on sunday it's a fast moving story with a lot to take hake in so let's get a reality check about just how serious this thing really is the best way to prevent its spread frankly scientists including myself and more or less that's all scientists who are studying this at the moment are also trying to understand how severe is this michael minna is an infectious disease specialist who studies viruses like this one and he's also a physician at brigham and women's hospital here in boston what we know is currently there's been around ten thousand reported cases for example and around two hundred of those cases have led to deaths now that sounds very very scary but what is not as apparent and is very difficult to measure as just how many the real cases are there truly it's possible for example that there may be a hundred thousand or more cases going on currently or that have already happened and although that sounds scary what that means is that if there's actually been a hundred thousand cases that means the vast majority of them have been totally a symptomatic just kind of like a normal flu season you might have very mild symptoms in some people and then of a very few will actually go to the hospital okay let's get down to the reality check how is the corona virus sprint what do we know about that short so the corona virus is a respiratory virus in its spread and droplets when somebody coughs who has ah those droplets will fly out of somebody and potentially be inhaled or otherwise contact somebody else it can also be spread on surfaces if somebody coughs under doorknob or wipes their nose and then opens a door somebody behind them i touch it and wipe their own knows for example or touch their face which is why taking precautions cautions is so important we want to make sure that everyone's washing their hands as much as possible and trying not to touch their face as much as possible and what are the symptoms of kiruna virus so the symptoms are generally a bit like a flu virus people get a cough they get fever and generally a an achey aqui feeling if you get a severe infection though then some of the symptoms become much more parent things like respiratory distress you start having trouble breathing but that's sort sort of going in in a more severe direction what advice do you have for people right now outside of china i think one of the best ways to prepare is to just keep keep abreast of all of the knowledge and the information that's coming out make sure you're you're reading multiple different media sites and don't get trapped into reading information that might be misinformation there's been a lot of fear mongering must have because of social media and the spread the rapid dissemination of both good and false information the the other thing is outside of china has been extraordinarily small numbers of cases relative to the human population that have been diagnosed and so we just don't know is this actually going to spread in the united states that's still unknown and so at the moment there's nothing to do anyway we just have to take a step back and wait to see does the sexually you start to spread and then we'll give the information as quick as we know it to the public michael minna is an infectious disease specialist he's also a physician at brigham and women's hospital in boston dan thanks a lot absolutely an outbreak like what we're seeing with the corona virus leads to many questions we got to some of those questions here with dr minna but i'm betting you you have more join us on monday at eleven thirty AM eastern for facebook live with dr minna in partnership with harvard chan school of public health send us your questions and starting now on the world's facebook page and join us live on monday at eleven thirty eastern you're listening to the world i'm carol hills this is the world we're now just a few days away from the iowa caucuses the acknowledged start of the US presidential campaign we send our the in house native iowan rupa shenoy back to her home state where immigrants and refugees are trying to take advantage of iowa's role as first in the nation the caucuses are a good time to be a cabdriver i meet up with santa cage after his shift all these journalists reporters i think the my from ed sams one of many sudanese who settled in des moines in the last two decades he used to be a republican out of respect for george w bush who he says tried to help sudan but after he became a citizen sam cast his first ever vote for barack obama in two thousand six i was so happy i never voted today in two thousand sixteen sam helped out on hillary clinton's campaign and tried to caucus for her but he and his family family showed up a few minutes late and they weren't allowed in what can you do we tied i with our live and work two three jobs what can you do this time he says he'll caucus his for joe biden because biden's been campaigning here for years sam has lots of pictures with them and says biden nosal ought about sudan but sam says none one of the candidates have said much of anything about sudan this year because nobody brought up and america shouldn't bought in very very dialogue week to bring these suffering of people to rejoin by research scientists henry logistically he's also from sudan i and lives outside des moines he says in the past the US helped his native country but now it seems absent henry wants local sudanese to speak makeup and tell the presidential candidates to focus on sudan and US foreign policy and jemma we have yet to figure out how we can use our numbers to gain political a cloud we are fractured here on the business of the politics back in south sudan that lack of unity means they can't take advantage of the access iowans wins have two candidates in the run-up to the first in the nation caucuses the opportunity and this is where we're losing out so we are missing something big here that's for sure sam hopes that will change one day maybe when someone from the sudanese community runs for office and wins it's not that easy especially this country you gotta have managed to do that gotta have connection to do that you can hear me i got an accent so a lot of people cannot hear me but hopefully my kids will one we're we're knows he has six kids so he figures it's safe to be hopeful if someone from the sudanese community does run for office in nyla they'll have to appeal to mostly white voters i was four percent black six percent latino and ninety percent white that challenge has kept a lot of immigrants and refugees from running for office even though vanessa marcano kelly says it's a lot less challenging than the thick vanessa spanish vanish interpreter originally from venezuela and recently petitioned state democrats to hold spanish speaking caucus sites she and other political activists meet me in the back of a caribou mm coffee shop to talk about their access to iowa politics it's accessible but we had to get through the barrier of that inertia of saying well i haven't done anything like the amount of years nobody's heard my voice but then we have to push back and say what have we even raised their hand to say anything that's exactly what software the engine near suresh reddy asked himself he's an indian immigrant who says he lived in iowa for sixteen years before the trump presidency made him wanna get involved in in politics post jonah city council and i did read that he says all it took was talking to voters if i wasn't india i would have done this daily money influential you need to know somebody who knows somebody to you in part of that process here anybody can raise your hand and say i'll be part of this process and that's what exactly what so did our mel trower a did nick non he's a consultant for one of the big insurance companies based here are mel came to the states dates from for kina foucault eighteen years ago as a student in november he ran for a seat on the walkie school board outside of des moines majority white probably has what has would come ninety nine percent one right i walked in some places where literally the first thing i heard was this two things that i care about the NRA and got god and if you don't have those two as your highest priorities other than talk to you but beyond guns and religion are mel says they could agree on many local all issues he didn't win that election but he says he still believes iowans judge candidates on the issues not their identity or race even though i was was elected officials currently aren't very divers diversity is good diversity is not necessarily good inclusion is good and are mel says iowa is inclusive busiv but rob kerin makes another point he's with the nonpartisan latino political network baron says if i were really was inclusive it would have at least nine latino state legislators based on the state latino population right now it has none nor has there ever been a latino legislator and all the years that the legislature has been convened in iowa i talked to rob in a cafeteria at grand view university where he's an administrator his mexican great grandparents immigrated it to iowa and he was born here he worked for democratic US senator tom harkin and seven years ago ran for a seat on the polk county school board i won that skoblo race jason i said one of the reasons i want you to vote for because i'm latino because the district's twenty five percent latino i also said it in english in iowa accent with spanish last name that generations ago had been americanized rub says that made him more palatable to white voters by his count there are twenty eight latino elected officials in iowa almost all on school boards and city councils he says those are important positions in stepping stones to higher office he tells a story about being a school board meeting and asking district staff if their website had information in languages other than english they said no two months later it was translated into seven languages rob says that's an example of why representation matters tangible way that representation matters because i'm sitting there thinking well i actually grew up speaking english is my primary language all the spanish i know is through through school and travel but i got elected did as the latino on the school board and that's the population i think about every time i'm sitting in that chair as for the iowa caucus rob decided support biden because his early choice former education secretary julio castro dropped out after suggesting that iowa shouldn't go first because the estate is overwhelmingly white and doesn't represent the diversity of the nation thorn julia said that i think i went through the seven stages of grief like that afternoon basically because he knew how i would react rob says once have been good stewards of the process of electing a president but he doesn't believe people should ignore the fact that iowa doesn't have many elected candidates of color i want us to stay i but i also think we have to earn it and i think part of earning hiring is accepting the fact that we have diversity we don't have well defined paths to power if i want not to justify their first in the nation caucuses rob says they should try to give more people a seat at the table for the world i'm rupa shenoy in des moines iowa woah later in the program i'll speak with a cybersecurity expert heading to iowa working to prevent foreign interference in their caucuses on the world i'm carol hills from points near and far pro brexit brits have been heading to london for a big party it's time to celebrate finally leaving the european union would three years for it so today as their last go down and enjoy the atmosphere dollar for the then tonight we'll be goodbye in six hundred i'm carol hills this is the world where a co production of the BBC world service w. g. b. h. NPR x. brexit is finally happening tonight at midnight brussels time the united kingdom officially leaves the european union that will end a forty seven year partnership between the UK and the rest of europe supporters of brexit are partying in the streets and we'll hear more about that later in the show but i what actually changes now that britain is officially leaving the e u the world's orla barry reports from london when britain wakes up tomorrow morning to a post brexit world not much will actually be very different not for only people going about the normal business this is roger from research group u k in a changing europe the UK is still in the your opinion single-market oh kit whistle inside the european union's customs union and we're treated as they were a member state tonight the UK leaves the government institutions that make up the european union but in nearly every other way britain is in a transition period for the next eleven months the UK will still follow EU ruse while it hammers out agreements since over trade law enforcement data sharing and much more things will be different tomorrow for small group of people though seventy-three british representatives in the european parliament are now out of a job for some light green politician molly scott cato it's been an emotional week i hold in my heart what's the knowledge that one day i will be back in this chamber celebrating our return to the house of europe thank you but for others like brexit party representative and we'd come the day couldn't come soon enough sacked no i am not sad adult i am ecstatic we're going loss we're going three and a half years we've been waiting for this one big worry here has been long lines at airports brits are concerned will take much longer to enter europe going to passport checks for noneya citizens jill rozier says it shouldn't be a problem for travelers joss GS they shouldn't make any difference as a tool like many other changes new passport checks won't won't come into effect for eleven months rauscher says there may be additional construction work ask airports though what they might notice is some building work because because what people will have to be doing during that's seven months they're going to have to get ready to implement all the new systems that will be needed at the end of the year brits living abrode have bigger worries over three hundred thousand of them live in spain many retirees like david lewis and eileen mcveigh who live in costa brava in northeastern not stor in spain david is worried about his european health insurance why concern is the health side of things you know off the friday what's going to happen i i lean about the value of her british pension in spain my concern is the pension student i don't know they should be fine as long as register a spanish residents roughly the same is true for EU citizens in britain they have until july next year to apply for settled status for the government the next eleven months will be about negotiating future trade relationships with the EU and the US and neither look like they're going to make things easy for britain secretary of state mike pompeo in london this week said the US would play tough on agricultural trade deals you commission president our slovak underline today said something similar negotiations will be fair but of course each side will fight for their interests and the closer the UK wants to the single market the more they have to respect the rules of the single market if they do not want to respect the rules the standards of the single market the more distant they will tonight there are demonstrations organized in northern ireland along parts of the border it's long been the greatest stumbling block in the brexit talks in scotland the mood is music to both regions voted against bragg's us here's scottish first minister nicholas sturgeon talking about the moment brexit becomes official that will be a moment of real phone sadness for so many of us across the key and he didn't scotland given that it is happening against it's the will of the vast majority of earth that sadness will be tinged with anger there will be one changed british life tomorrow and new fifty pence brexit bitcoin inscribed with the words peace prosperity and friendship with all nations it was the idea of right-wing columnist christopher hope but like everything brexit brexit related he created some division as hope has discovered the house calls all sorts of rows already when the treasury lost friday and held one of of two fifty pieces that left the treasury then i tweeted a picture of it and all sorts of people who went through the brexit coin will be celebrated or nash the government is eager to heal well the deficiencies that brexit has caused prime minister boris johnson says tomorrow will herald a new dawn for britain even though it would be another year before many changes are truly felt for the world i'm more to bari in london earlier this week president trump unveiled his long awaited middle east peace is plan hours after the announcement israel's prime minister benjamin netanyahu announced his own plan to unilaterally annexed jewish settlements and the entire jordan valley in the west bank that process could begin as soon as next week what is the trump administration say about this well it depends on who's being asked the president's son-in-law and senior adviser adviser jared kushner was asked about it well let's see what happens the hope is that the wait till after the election will work with them to try to come up with something kushner was referring to the upcoming israeli election in early march other US administration officials have a different take on annexation israeli will make decisions consistent with israeli law with with respect to the secretary of state mike pompeo speaking on israeli television then there's the US ambassador to israel david freedman he's reportedly urged netanyahu to begin annexation straightaway i wanna bring in one of the architects of trump's plan for israel and the palestinians jason green blatt was US special envoy to the middle east he joins us from his home in teaneck new jersey jason what's going on here does the trump peace plan give israel a green light to start annexing the west bank immediately i would say that secretary appreciate from pao's statement is an accurate one the israelis are going to have to do it in accordance with their own lives they're going to make a decision as to the timing but i'm confident that the prime the minister will do it in coordination with the white house but isn't he jumping the gun in terms of an agreement that supposed to bring the palestinians in israeli israeli together but he's going ahead and doing something with zero participation by palestinians the palestinians have a tremendous opportunity in front of them now they have a plan that is extraordinarily detailed have a map finally so they have in front of them something including an area of land that is going to preserve for them for four years is in order to create the state they have been seeking it may be defined differently than they expected but the opportunity is there so strong recommendations recommendations the palestinian leadership would be to come to the table and negotiate in good faith and see where it goes if they chose to ignore the plan that's in front of them things things will have to continue moving now the palestinians have rejected the trump administration's plans how do you get them on board going forward it is there for aug. they've rejected it by the way before it even came out they spent the last year or so finding the release of it and rejecting it before they read it and now whether they'll read or not remains it's to be seen but i think that if the palestinian leadership is serious about a state anyone who is serious about a state should read this very large and detailed plan and come back like with appropriate good-faith comments chose not to do that that's their prerogative i think that'll be tragic for the palestinian people but what they have to understand is that nobody can force the deal here now the united states the world's superpower not the united nations not the european union the only way this conflict will be resolved is by direct negotiations relations between israel and the palestinians i want to move to a different topic which is reaction from arab world leaders to the peace plan which is mixed what role do you you see them playing in trying to implement this trump plan sure well i think you saw and it wasn't just the arab leaders there were some quite extensively positive comments from around the world as far as they are countries themselves i would like to point out that i do not think the countries are interested in enforcing a deal either i know there's talk that perhaps they are countries but forced president of us to come to the table and signed a deal i don't think that's realistic and i don't think they're interested in doing that and of course that's palestinian president mahmoud abbas referring to sync with the air our countries are interested in doing is helping the palestinians in a way that gets them as much as they possibly can get i'm regarding the question of jerusalem under the the plan jerusalem is to remain the undivided capital of israel but it also says that the palestinian capital will be in eastern jerusalem so how can jerusalem remain undivided yet at the same time be the capital city of two separate states the borders of jerusalem have been inflex over the centuries i think that get the map itself or the plant itself designates what portion will be capital to israel and what portion would be capital to this eventual palestinian reinstate you worked on this plan as special envoy for more than two years but she left that position before it was rolled out this week why well originally a signed up for approximately two years ended up staying much closer to three years i wife then six kids that live in teaneck new jersey and became more and more difficult with each passing assing week to live separate from them only got to see them on the weekends and the time came to be a you know to step back into my role as a father and a husband i'm glad glad they rolled it out even though i had left three months prior i'm glad i got to play participating roll and i'll continue to fight for peace even in the private sector real at the rollout it was my wife and kids were there as well we're very proud and happy to be there jason greenland is former u s special envoy for the middle east thanks a lot for speaking with us thank thank you so much now we had back to iowa the iowa caucus is monday and the democratic national committee is sending cybersecurity team there it's part of a broader our effort to protect the process from sabotage and prevent the kind of cyber mischief that happened in two thousand sixteen now when thomas is chief technology officer for the dnc what we'll be doing is monitoring disinformation that we're seeing online will be rapidly digesting dissecting whether or not those narratives are false or not and then escalating to our partners as social media companies and doing our best to to counter those narratives how do you counter them in real time so you see something on social media that that you're suspicious of you talk to the social media company facebook or whatever what happens what's the practical impact of what you're doing when a piece of information violates a social media companies policies we can get them to pull it down in the case where it's a grey area because to be honest their policies are not perfect doc we might put out a statement that really combat's that sometimes we have to just ignore it because in fact drawing more attention to false narratives can also be detrimental toll it's not pure science here there some art and that's why we have some disinformation experts who were both within the DNC partners to evaluate on a case by case basis and make it was calls have the social media companies cooperated in the past in prompt way when you've asked him to take down information they have but it's not always dry you know there's a a lot of things that we flag that we think are pretty clearly fake news that the social media companies don't leave and taking down and that's where we also are pushing hard on policy changes i think that some of the social media companies don't have it right you've been talking a lot about trying to thwart disinformation campaigns but what about hacking threats how how do you prevent those we do everything we can to prepare pair there's no system that is perfect or impenetrable so all we can do is put in place as many measures as we can and risk mitigate some of the things we're looking for is any results that look unusual compared to what we'd expect based on past turnout at a precinct or what's happening in the room so we're looking for everything from accidental title mistakes where people call in or report in wrong numbers to you know any potential form of intervention in that process and so we have backups on backups actually for the first time the iowa party has introduced a new measure to make sure the process is more transparent which is that each caucus gore will fill out a presidential preference card so there's actually a physical paper record i understand that in iowa a precinct leaders will be able to use a new smartphone app to report caucus results i guess it's an app that's downloaded on personal cellphones of the caucus managers isn't that itself a potential vulnerability anytime technology is anywhere close to an election election we obviously are very focused on making sure that it said secure as possible the party will be using an app to help the precinct chairs calculate the thresholds and record quarter results but we will mention that that app is undergoing a ton of review and checking by the department of homeland security the defending digital democracy actually project out of harvard the DNC it's built by a vendor that has expertise in caucus match and they've been very transparent about their security measures and practices everything from from the endpoint monitoring logging they have to the transaction light log they have to make sure that any data changes have clear record of what how and when things we're being changed you know we're not gonna get into much detail about this insensitive details there because we want to ensure the integrity of that process as well but we are doing everything we can to make make sure that that is as secure as possible in most importantly again there is a backup so if someone doesn't want to use the app it's not working for them it will call it in via phone as they have happened the past and that phone line also has a backup doing into the iowa caucus a wedding you most concerned about i'm most concerned about the disinformation mation cox's are confusing this is high stakes one that makes them great targets for disinformation misinformation and to be honest i think one of the easiest vectors for disrupting the process is by spreading false narratives about the legitimacy of the outcome there is nothing more important than this being fair and transparent and with public trust and it's pretty easy to undermine i'm not through some fake news spread through social media and so i'm deeply concerned now when thomas is the DNC's chief technology officer thanks a lot no one thank you and now this impeachment update president trump appears to be on track for a speedy acquittal in his impeachment trial republicans now have the votes they need to to block new witnesses in the senate but that didn't stop democratic impeachment manager adam schiff from urging senators to change their minds rob this country of a fair fair trial and there can be no representation that the -verting has any meaning how could it if the result is baked in by the process the official vote on witnesses is expected to happen today after that the republicans could move quickly to to acquit the president but senate democratic leader chuck schumer said not if he can help it we are going to use whatever power we have to present it prevent it from being rushed through but right now there is no agreement tonight it's official britain finally leaves the european union there's a street party planned in london's parliament square we sent russell newlove to speak with some brexit ears it's friday morning and there's a little over twelve hours until britain formerly leaves the european union i'm outside the ace cafe in north west london it's a popular hangout and meeting place for petrol heads mobike enthusiasts and today is no different front in front of me are couple of bikes union jacksonville ready to be flown as they ride into parliament square later on they belong to members of bikers for brexit and i spoke to its founding member breakthough who's road through the night to be here i've come from pendolino the district round about three hundred miles wide you wrote so from from the brexit today as their last dollar and enjoy atmosphere australia then tonight will be up in a drink goodbye in a system and do it at the british where why is the celebration in coming to london destroyed from inside out stop fix it this is just to be clear there were only three bikers for brexit at the cafe and it was a little early for event planning for nine pm even sir organizers are only the expecting fifteen thousand people this evening in stark contrast to the anti brexit marches which regularly attracted hundreds of thousands in the past i come to london's euston station which serves transform the east and west midland's these are the parts of the country that thought it most heavily fall brexit trying to see if anybody is arriving who might be attending the celebrations leads her on just seen them wearing leave means leave t. shirt gonna let's see if i can track him down i'm brian western from north of come to celebrate leaving via eleven o'clock this evening expect a number of people like myself at least we're going to get together and say we own the why today you actually moving to the next step is not the beginning of the end the internet getting into the famous joke of the past do you think it's appropriate to celebrate something as divided the country so much in a way hi robbie in the nose of the people that want to stay we had a referendum it was fairly narrow but it was a clear tijuana by about one PM people gathering around parliament square a few it installed themselves inappropr- across the road and what having singson and joining a pint and dressed in a union jack took cedar derek marshall who introduced himself as brexit derek celebrate freedom from the tyranny of the is there anything that you might miss ask from being in the EU i'll still be i'll be anywhere in france and europe it's just it's not stopping movement is it well we don't know yet unless buffet open borders suicidal any country purely the borders were not looking after ourselves what that means and who will be responsible we'll take time to figure out but i this is a day for brexit here's to celebrate for the world i'm russell newlove in london on this day thirty years ago the soviet union said yes to one of the most potent symbols of american capitalism hey we mcdonald's opened its first franchise and moscow osco in one thousand nine hundred ninety just one year before the collapse of the USSR the company planned to mark today's anniversary by selling hamburgers at soviet era prices but the kremlin nixed the plan over fears of the corona virus outbreak reporter charles means was at mcdonald's in moscow today charles how was it you know today they had the price of a big mac at three rubles back in the soviet union three rubles was nearly a half a day's wages so it was a deal and they unfortunately had to cancel it this warning came from the authorities about the outbreak of the corona virus we had actually news of the outbreak today for the first time two cases it did seem to impact the amount of people who turned out for this i think they were really expecting acting soviet-era lines to go with these prices it's interesting because if you go to moscow today it's this dynamic cosmopolitan city but back in nineteen ninety it was a big big deal to have this first mcdonald's restaurant open how did russians react to it back then there was huge lines outside of pushkin square this is the center of moscow where the the flagship store opened back in one thousand nine hundred eighty over line of over thirty eight thousand people but you know it went way beyond hamburgers i want to introduce you to get him jorgi he's in retired army vet and this is what he had to i say blues through vetted this yogi saying that the interest was really in another life in other words the west just because the government for years had told everyone that the west was the enemy and now there was this little window that opened up in mcdonald's this kind of view of what was happening there and so for him it said it just made his world world a little bit bigger at the time who are the russians who were hired to work at that first mcdonald's in moscow because it's kind of a specific place to work very very not russian it's also really fascinating story there was just one ad placed in newspaper mcdonald's got over three five thousand applicants of which little over six hundred actually chosen so it was something like the lottery but they hired young people with no experience and full of energy and and that was really the point they wanted no connection to the soviet style service that was famously slow and rude you know mcdonald's is famous for its quote service with a smile and i spoke with a woman on a patrol nina who is cashier back back in one thousand nine hundred with the first mcdonald's of now as VP in the company and she told me that this was actually one of the requirements when she went to train for the job issue and this it was really all about they asked us during the interviews the are you ready to smile for eight hours straight and and they said yes of course because they wanted the job but they didn't realize just just how hard that is to do and this is something i have to say that i've heard from a lot of people who work there nearly days that they were kind of melting by the end of this first day first couple of weeks anyway at mcdonald's because the lines were huge and they just had to smile all day long and of course americans have that reputation for smiling all the time in other parts of the world so back today the thirtieth anniversary of the first mcdonald's opening in moscow do you think the company was going a little overboard to to cancel the big plan which was to offer hamburgers for the soviet era price or they just bowing to government pressure wh what's the deal there you have to wonder how sense it makes i guess because i mean if that's the case ace of course toiling through the metro systems where they're you know small contained cars all these things are overloaded with people all the time much more so than any mcdonald's stephen pushkin square although maybe not one thousand nine hundred reported charles means in moscow thanks charles thank you uh-huh and that'll do it for today from the non and bill harris studio at w. g. b. h. in boston i'm carol hills have a great weekend void in the world is a co production of w GBH boston the BBC world service and pierre ex

Radio Free Quarantine #2: Contact Trace

"Warning this podcast is extremely depressing. If you are depressed right now do not listen to this. Podcast IT'S DAY. Three hundred eighteen on lockdown. And you're listening to Radio Free Quarantine. I'm on a writer and I am not bitter. No no no no no no. I'm not bitter. I'm not better known I. Am I getting back out? There is what I'm doing. It is Valentine's Day. I am single and I'm getting the fuck back out there and that is what I have to say. Okay here's the problem. Here's the problem. How how am I supposed to get back out there if I can't go out there right? How's that spouse to work? Oh Oh sorry. Tooting black-market Bathtub. Gin here can recycle all who killed me. Luckily luckily the coalition as an answer. It's called Tracer nowy obviously and it's the first dating APP for the recently bachelor ratified devore. Say Looking for love in the distant age now. I'm not being paid by any of the coalition companies to say this. But let me tell you tracer spars dating APPs go. Sox substrates or sucks. It really really really really sucks. Why will a all dating APP suck? We know this but be it's immunised. There's no other fucking way to say it it's fucking immunised and that's that and also see. I can't get a date so okay one more okay. But why can't get it because of immunisation that's why because the fucking immunization and that's that's that tell you that much sorry. I shouldn't be pulling that car to a huge amount of immuno privilege. I'm not old. I don't have a chronic condition. I have nothing that could remotely be considered an immunodeficiency literally. Just I smoked pot every day so my lungs are fucked up. So I'm susceptible thing is it says that on the APP not that I smoke pot every day. But there's there's a massive banner above my profile pic that says compromised right above the slightly smaller banner. That says UN acclimated straight so clearly. That's why I can't get a date and it has nothing at all to do with my personality. No your immunity status but also the immunity status of anyone who comes within six feet of you and if any of those people don't have antibodies it'll show you their name face age and susceptibility as well as anyone susceptible who's come within six feet of them and if the person didn't have permission to pop your distance bubble. There's a big red button that lets you report their transgression trans- trans- aggression to the authorities. Immunization Room is one of those words that I it just doesn't compute for the radical rate intersectional or Transgender O. A. N. that's one American news. Trump's clear favourite network since Fox went under sees immunity as a badge of honor a metaphorical medal of heroism for enduring the gauntlet of Kovic nineteen and coming out the other side stronger more American and of course whiter because over the past eleven months the word unactivated has become conservative. Media's loudest dog whistle and until a vaccine comes along. The only way to get acclimated is to get sick and survive. And you're more likely to be able to do that. If you're white period race and health are inexorably linked not as Owen would. Have you believe because of genetics? But because the distribution of medical resources is so tied to income inequality. Poc In this country die of corona virus at staggering rates compared to white people who are more likely to receive better treatment and thus more likely to recover it makes sense then that the immune are far more likely to be white than not. Chats at the bar - Micro Actions

"Hello, I'm Gareth and I'm Sharon and welcome to building business where as aliens and took the whole culture essentially financial planning, which helps growth business owners and social media influences Achieve Financial Independence. We're too passionate financial planners on a mission to seek out new ideas tips and tricks to help you take control of finances and run better businesses. We delve in the true goals and aspirations. Well, I guess in order to provide you with some real value and positivity. Nothing else. Just clear simple solid Financial Solutions off of YouTube series to accompany this and details will be at the end of the show. So let's move on to our guest house, but again strange strange. I'm thinking about talking about chance the bar Mr. Shearer's you were you're looking very slim at the moment. Thank you. And you're on a journey. I am I am friends were listening. I guess probably just to give you a kind of short snippet of where I am off anyone who knows me knows I like my food which has its positives and negatives think I think I struggle over the last few years with try to kind of maintain my kind of weights and it's just been going off and I'll be making excuses. So I thought it was time to to shift some shift some weight. So as we go on about we think people should have a financial planning a Coach purse a I went to a specialist specialize in Nutrition a friend of mine Johnny landels and put the planning page which is actually been brilliant. I haven't stopped eating the things I like I still eat those but in moderation and 28 off August I started and we are now today the 14th of October and I've gone from 248 pounds on the 232 and I'm on target for my 220 where I want to start don't go any lower than that. So let's go into the finance for the moment and tell us what you you haven't gold off the outset that you wanted to achieve the 220 and you brought back down into of course micro actions of what you needed to do be home healthier eat less and exercise and you're reviewing that on a on a regular basis. Yeah exactly that gave them to be honest exercise as I'm really formed a part of it yet because I I'm very good of excuse the term being shit or best. So I'll usually go all in and go right I need to log. Wait, so I'm going to eat chicken rice and broccoli which account you can only in more boring than that, or some sort of fad diets and give it a week. If I failed I ended up in have ended up the cheeky Burger King on the way home listening. So this time it has been by my corrections. It's been that's get the calories dialed-in not worry too much about what the Macross Blitz are. If anyone doesn't know Microsoft give the Google I'm not going to try and explain it, but just trying to get the calories right and and it's not rocket science is calories in calories at home. If you get your calories, right and you're expending that energy throughout the day, even if you're not doing exercise, you will use a certain amount of calories up and it's been my corrections for me because wage has been slow and steady for me. I like haven't yet had a moment where I think I'm going to go over to Greg so I kind of have a lot of food over there, but I can still go to Craig's, Georgia. Would be very weary award have him when I'm there and kind of just be kind of conscious. You know, I've used My Fitness Pal app as well to help me kind of track. What I'm doing is I'm going to do for short. Just so I can get my head around what I should eat in portion size Etc. But I'm not hungry. I feel a million times better and it was it was a big thing for me because you know, I'm not getting any younger as we know forty-two this year off and actually in next month I go to young family and I didn't want to be that fat dad in the play yard with the kids or sports day. Even though Sports days a little bulb on hold of the moment with covid-19. Cut to you as James high school would say so it's very same with any kind of professional reading you need to get someone who is a specialist in their field. That's what I'm doing. So I've done the same with my exercise now I got someone helping me with out and that's my next stage of where I need to get to what happens here. And I don't know if you have if you're if you're reviewing a you know about on a Monday morning and Sunday night or something like that what happens if the figures have not decreased on the biggest have go over the course of a single week is a major issue or how you look at it in the grand scheme of the the overall loan long-term goal. Yeah. I think I am beginning. It was a bit kind of strange without actually Johnny told me to kind of weigh kind of a few times a week and then average it just because different times where the same time of day but home You know, you may be more dehydrated at some point or you may be more hydrated. So you may be carrying a bit more fluid and so on so forth cuz even when you're dehydrated you can then retain fluid which can cause weight but I'm beginning now. It doesn't really bother me because like some of these all get on and I'm like, why would put on two pounds and the next day or a couple of days our way and I've actually lost three so there's obviously some sort of slide wage discrepancy in in my body at the time but I try to get to hang up on that you can generally kind of know I'm losing weight because things are fitting better. I feel better and you just need to look better join mean kind of when you steal I was looking at some pictures of me and you when we were at events and stuff and I got this is if someone's iron my shirt with a walk in it because the belly off at rooting in the pictures was brilliantly I thought I was sucking it in as well if I was setting and that's worrying. So so basically you you had a plan and which off How long does it take you couldn't do it on your own? So you got the help of experts. They sent you down the tops through what you want to do with what you didn't like and gather all the information they designed to plan with you and they set it out. They reviewers on a regular basis. They tell me not to worry about the short-term fluctuations in that and and you you manage it and you you can take micro steps on micro action every now and again, I forget about all of em. Annoy is going on to achieve your overall goal hitting a certain amount of homes in a certain period of time. Yeah. Yeah exactly that, you know, I have a weekly check with with the coach and and I think I think just to put a bit in perspective. I think one of the things I kind of said and the reason why off I picked Johnny to do this was because he doesn't believe in the stick ever known broccoli rice and chicken diet because you're going to break. You said you need to have your treats and the things you kind of like an because I smoke causes you to kind of break and so, you know, that was one of the things for me why can't do suddenly go to a huge restricted diet because I'm just going to fail and fall off the wagon. But and this is the first time I'd probably say ever I've actually stuck to it and it doesn't bother me, you know. Yeah, I am a little bit kind of rigid and strict with how I do it at the moment with regards to the chime in barcodes reference Center, but for me, it's just getting that mindset. Right and it is the micro actions. I haven't gone full tilted it like I normally would you know, I'm doing in stages and it's working, you know, I feel better. My clothes are fitting better, you know, and you can see you can see the physical results of it. And you know, I don't get me wrong. It's not going to work for everyone. You know, I do have a game. I think a kind of mindset. The kind of stick to something like that, you know, which I probably didn't have so much in the past. But I think with the way things are being built in with work and running businesses. I know that I've got to kind of put things in place and the end of page books my family, you know, two young kids five year old and nearly eleven months old trials children, and you know, I'm not dad, you know, so I need to do these things go I need to be around for a long time since they're all the stuff that you talk about how we Convinced it down to a few points. You could almost transfer into the world to find us you're doing you're doing exactly what we want to do in the financial World in terms of health and fitness all credit to you. It's it's it seems to be working you are very interested in terms of eating, you know, managing all of them off those pictures over here very very soon. And and you go like wasn't have to be realigned to you. So I'm well done. Keep up going and yet anyone else out there often because I'm take a credit card that you can you can do things. If you put your mind to it not just in the world of Indian Health Fitness mental Financial go back to wherever you want to do. Yeah. Keep going. Yeah. No, thank you. I think yeah, just remember that. I think I think the big thing is is that you can't always do everything on your own here. Sometimes you need to be held accountable. You know, like we we have on our business near we hold each other accountable for what we do and I think that's like in anything, you know, maybe these reasons why these top professionals top sports people's top business people have coaches is all about accountability.
