"First of all a couple things I want to mention if you are a pool owner there means as devices that you can use that you can access that'll set off an alarm if there's water in your pool there are apps you know just like there are apps now to remind you that you left your kids in the car or to check the backseat to your car well there are apps that are available now that can remind you check on the kids every sixty seconds sixty seconds can make a difference so if you're going to be with kids and you're gonna be around water you need it to be prepared in need to lay the groundwork now we spoke with recent Landis earlier from the American red cross and she was saying that a lot of times we have this like everything else we have this TV image of what things look like and and so we have this TV image of when someone is in trouble in the water that they go up and down they got up and down the flag their hands they scream Hey mom whatever it is I'm not sure that that's the case Chris or not is actually here's our producer but guess what he's also a lifeguard at one of the city of Pittsburgh public polls and I figured he was a great person to weigh in on this thanks for coming into this side of the studio highland yeah no problem so what does that mean you know do we have a missing a misconception of what we think drowning looks like yes I in movies people are always flailing their arms they still keep their heads above water in real life people go under water very very quickly mostly small children it's always that point what I call the dangers out it's it's right before the deep and there's the rope that separates the shower okay small children who really like to push the boundary so they're on the tent as they move a little further a little further they're supposed to tell not to go past the latter but anyway and there's a point where the water is right on their chan line there Dave they have their head tilted back there on their faces yeah and that's what becomes really dangerous because half foot more towards a deep and and then their heads under water they can't tread water well so they immediately inhale they go in the water yeah other coffee now they can't swim in and that panic sets and you can see it in their eyes I've seen it happen a couple times we've had to jump into the pool make a minor rescue for an active drown or by there's always that now they realize they've gone too far they realize they're in trouble and luckily where there to spot them although our job is to prioritize that not happening everything we do is preventative where there to try and stop it before it occurs said that's a lot of times when you're at the poor year there's whistles blow and and I know I'm not one like what's happening what's going on but a lot of that is then to say Hey knock it off get back in the shallow basically right people's you know if they think you're being mean or your employee but really it's all about the swimmer safety always anytime you're that way so it it's not because we're bored it's it's for the swimmer safety and we don't allow any inflatables it pits for public pools simply for the danger that they can the flight if they can inflating deflate that's a dangerous former so water swimming is as little wings that you had there yeah for me in the nineties I know I'm right absolutely yeah we don't allow those so you can't even use those as well they do make I believe they're called puddle jumpers now okay and their it's much safer they they connect around the whole child's front part they snap in the back and they have arms and it's all one piece and it's made out of styrofoam so it's it's more like what pool noodles made out of that material so that can't deflate so they're matching a for the child can't slip out of them as you said sounds like based on that design it kind of keeps the top half out of the water yeah that is exactly what it does not is its purpose yes let me ask you this ad Lisa Landis from the red cross us it talked about parent's watching and she said you know John taxed you know all it takes is that one second you look down at your phone I'm just curious from an observation perspective do you see more parents like on the side on their phones not or you know we talk about distracted driving I guess this would be distracted parenting I see a lot I've worked at several pulls out some of which we were outside of the city and a lot of parents treat pools as a day care drop their children off and leave them there all day unattended except for lifeguards and duties and we're not really babysitters arrange to protect people keep and I'll make sure everyone safe if something does occur the where there to handle emergency situation so a lot of times I have very young children who are unattended by any parents and sometimes I have families with five small children and you know they they had spread out easily and it takes ten seconds for a child to get halfway across the foyer from the parent is following the pair would be able to immediately help the child is in danger and that it so it's a lot yes there's definitely distracted pedestrians and pool patrons and last question you know we always tend to think of being alive garden this summer as the cool job you get to sit out and this sign here at the pool every day but now that and I've never thought about this much before but now that I'm talking to you it sounds like that's a lot of stress in this job it's a lot of work I mean granted I got a nice tan out of it but yeah when you're in the chair there's no distractions you know there's no eating there's no phones you're watching the water you know looking around behind you you're not talking to someone while you're in the chair you are watching all of the swimmers in your designated area and then you're scanning the pool so you're looking over towards another like are there and make sure they're paying attention make sure that they're seeing everyone especially when there's a lot when it's a hot day and this weekend it's sunny so there's gonna be a lot of people in the poll on and the more people the more dangerous it is because the harder it is to keep track of everyone so yeah you really got to be on your toes all right I know I said last question ma'am ask you one more there are three tips you would give parents because again we we talked about the fact this is gonna be a great weekend to go to the pool if there are three things you think parents should remember keep in mind as they head out to the water this weekend what were they they are number one we know your child's limits I know the limitations know if they're strong swimmer if they cancel at all I recommend them not going in really above the navel area that's where you are really safe so they can swim keep them in the shallow that that is the number one tip number two also they can swim you want to have some form of protection so what I just described the the puddle hoppers they're great hiring meaning those they can be bought at any Walmart's target any store like that in the area yeah yeah that's being brought up yeah in the third would be honestly sunscreen it's amazing how many people don't use a sunscreen I I've dealt with a few secondary burns this summer blisters on shoulders yeah on the nose I've had a couple children kind of left unattended I'm so it's up to us to make sure that these kids are putting on sun screen I've had to do that with a couple of kids so yeah that's way outside the bounds Hey Christian thanks so much for you for giving us that perspective who knew we'd have a life guard right here in the studio I'm having helping him free CA year indeed we are coming up on eleven forty five Chris is now I got to run back into the other room I didn't realize it was that late I apologize eleven forty five hours celebrating a grand opening in the I live in an apartment you southbound.

"Hundred hours we're crossing over the small mountain range and still proceeding northward as best as can be Esser tained beyond the mountain ranges. What appears to be a valley with a small river stream running through the center portion, there should be no green valley below something is definitely wrong in normal here, we should be over ice and snow to the portside a great forests growing on the mountain slopes are navigation instruments are still spinning the gyroscope is awesome leading back and forth. Teno five hours. I alter altitude to fourteen hundred feet, and executed sharp left, turn to better examine the valley below it is green with either moss or type of tight-knit grass the light here seems different. I cannot see the sun anymore. We make another left turn. And we spot what seems to be a large animal of some kind below us, it appears to be an elephant. No, it looks more like a mammoth. This is incredible. If there it is. Is decrease altitude to one thousand feet and take Benach yours to better examine the animal. It is confirmed. It is definitely a mammoth like animal report. This debase camp. Ten thirty hours, the external temperature indicator, read, seventy four degrees Fahrenheit continuing are heading now navigation instruments seem normal now I am puzzled over their actions attempt to contact base camp radio is not functioning, eleven thirty hours countryside below is more level in normal. If I may use that word Ed, we spot, what seems to be a city. This is impossible aircraft seems light in oddly buoyant, the controls refuse to respond. Mike God off our starboard wings or a strange type of aircraft. They're closing rapidly alongside their disc shaped and have a radiant quality to them. They're close enough now to see the markings on them is a type of Schwab gut. This is fantastic. Where are we what has happened? I at the controls again. They will not respond. We are caught in an invisible, vice grip of some type. Eleven thirty five hours are radio crackles in voice comes through in English with what perhaps, is a slight Nordic or Germanic accent, the messages. Welcome Admiral to our domain. We shall land, you and exactly. Seven minutes. Relax, Admiral, you're in good hands. I note the engines of our plane of stopped running. The aircraft is under some strange control and is now turning itself. The controls are useless, eleven forty hours. Another radio message received we begin the landing process now. And in moments, the planes, shudders slightly and begins a descent as though caught in some great unseen, elevator. The downward motion is negligible. And we touched down with only a slight jolt. Eleven forty five hours I am making a hasty last entry in the flight. Log several men are approaching on foot toward our aircraft. "Five. Jeff, Cavs NewsRadio. W R V A Monday afternoon. We are gonna talk more about this UVA situation Tony benefits the coach saying that they will not visit the White House. The UVA national championship team. They will not visit the White House. And I am appalled. I am absolutely positively appalled. Somebody sent us a note talking about de'andre hunter, sending out a tweet that said, no, thanks Trump with to laughing emojis. And my my boss here went onto Twitter to find the actual tweet. Apparently, it's been deleted. He says it's no longer there. So you have to wonder if somebody said to him. Hey might not be the best thing to have that out there. After all our official narrative from UVA is it's travel difficulties. State Senator Amanda chase. From Chesterfield county is someone I like I like her policies. I like our activities. I think she's a good person. I was disturbed when I read the story read the account from the Virginia capital police that capitol police officer up there, essentially sets looked can't park in this particular spot, and we were told that Senator chase. Then kind of played the Dino who I am card. You see the license plates and was to put it mildly less than friendly. So I looked at the situation. And again, am I bias. I'm biased in this way. Number one. I've been a cop, and I know how difficult it can be number two. I am familiar with the Virginia capital police, and I will tell you not only are they America's oldest law enforcement agency. They are one of the most upstanding professional operations. I have ever seen. State Senator Amanda chases someone whose opinions I I have. Respect for I've met her on a couple of different occasions found her to be absolutely delightful and really believed that when it came time to challenge Abigail spam. Burger for Dave brat old congressional seat. I thought it was going to be a man to chase. Now state Senator chase was on with John Reid this morning. And you know, I I like, John I think John's a super nice guy. So I wanna share with you in case you did miss state Senator chase on this morning. We've got some snippets here. Let's do chase number one. Please. First of all, I would like to say I did not. A capital police officer as reported by the Richmond. Dispatch. Hugh with the actual police report that was written itself, and I have so much respect for our capitol. Police at a lot of friends that are there in the capitol police, and I have. I have never had any type of encounter like this with our police officers in general. And and you know. I respect our police officers, and they have a very difficult job to do. No question about it. No question about it. But it's made that much more difficult. If people are not cooperating, so let me give you a another little piece again state Senator chase was on the morning with John Reid and how about chase number two. I would say this particular police officer. To her credit. She was twenty two years old. I hadn't seen her before. And I would say, she's probably the exception. I mean, she's definitely the exception to any capital police officer. Did I've ever interacted with Virginia general assembly saying that she was not professional with you. Well, here's what I would say. I think she. Exasperated the report it was. Is a little bit over the top. I mean, I was not irate. I would. I mean, first of all let me just say, we're not in the general assembly. I also have my office downtown at the Pocahontas building at the place where I always car it's not like I'm looking for special parking duchess where I would park and it's right there in front of the office. Okay. Now, Senator chase talks about how the officer was relatively new. She's twenty two years old Thurn of. But isn't that also part of this rea- say, hey, listen. Your brand new to the job in the case of this office. Let's let's say Senator chases right on that. She is brand new to the job. When you are that new to the job any job. Really, don't you? Really you follow whatever the guidelines are right now. Maybe if you've got twenty years on that job or ten years on that job, and you know, the kind line as says blankety blank. But you know, listen, we always let the senators of the delegates the take this shortcut and Mari. We'll we'll we'll do that this time. But I'm disturbed, by the way. This was presented. And in fact, I read the report from officer Ashley Berryman directed to a Colonel pike. Who's who's also a great guy and the subject is incident with Senator chase down. If you haven't read this. I'm going to share it with you. It says on Friday March twenty second two thousand nineteen at approximately eleven forty five hours. I officer Berryman was assigned to the pedestrian plaza where I encountered a white Lexus attempting to gain access to park inside the plaza for the day. She stated that she was Senator chase and that is on her front license plate and to lead her park inside the plaza. I informed her that she was not allowed to park inside the pedestrian plaza without prior permission from and she names, the two people she stated she was a Senator that works in the Pocahontas building and needs to park inside. Here. I called inside the Pocahontas building to another officer to try and verify if she had permission to park inside the plaza. And the response was quote, no, only if. Their name is on the list or has to have permission from these other two people I reiterated to the Senator again that I cannot allow her to park inside the pedestrian plaza. And that I'm following rules in protocol for parking there. I see gesture that she park in her assign deck, she stated that she will not park in the deck because she is in fear for life, and that there is no guard there and that she has been receiving threats. She also stated quote, aren't you supposed to protect me, and quote, and quote, you don't know equality of women's rights, and quote, she stated, quote, I am not going to move a unless you let the blanking barricades down to let me in and quote, I told her again, I have no at thirty to let her park in the plaza and to please refrain from using profane language, I politely asked her again to pull the car to the side. So I can let the busses pass through. And she refused. I then called via the post phone the first sergeant to make them aware of Senator chases irate boisterous actions toward me. I attempted to call and verify with these other two FOX. That you can park at a space, but both were out of the office. When Senator chase returned from going inside, the Pokemon is building she came to the booth and requested supervisor I informed her that I called for a supervisor to respond to rectify the formation rectify the issue, she then proceeds to say quote to you know, who I am an- quote. I'm Senator chase. Don't you see it on my license plate? But I guess you don't care. She also stated that she's making a point. And we'll call the press. She also stated that Madam clerk miss piggy gets to park her fat ass front at approximately twelve. We'll five hours Lieutenant Duncan arrived in spoke with the Senator now. I wasn't there. But here's what I've learned over the years. In generally, generally, speaking. Police officer doesn't have anything to game. Right. When you go into courts and a police officer has clocked you doing sixty miles an hour in a forty mile an hour zone. The judge looks at it and says there's really only one person here who has any reason to say that the speed was something other than the clock speed. There's no benefit to the officer to saying. Oh, yeah. He was doing sixty in a forty. She was doing sixty in a forty. And in this case, I don't know what the benefit is to the officer to claim that Senator chase acted in this way. I don't know. Is there a political axe to grind, maybe? But I don't know. I can't figure out what benefit is to that officer to make these claims, I ten absolutely here in see and understand. Why Senator chase would say? Well, no, no, no. That's not really what happened. And I'm gonna let you hear some more of Senator chases visit this morning with John Reid. Now. This should serve as a reminder. I tell you every day that you should listen to John do I not I tell you every single day, and they're plenty of reasons. Number one. I liked shot. I think it does a great show. I think he's a great guy. We're looking forward to the sold out politics implants round number three Thursday June thirteenth at the funny. Bone in short pump. But this is what happens with John John does. I think a nice job. And I've gotta tell you something. I thought John was polite to a fault. Now that's credit to Jack and Judy. I don't know if John so much, but he also provided Senator chase with multiple opportunities to say, you know, what I lost my temper temper, gosh, she's a new officer. She was just going by the book, and I had a bad whatever it was. But she didn't. And I'll let you hear some more of this. And again, I sit here it pains me to tell the story simply because I like Senator Amanda chase. I respect the Virginia capital police to the degree. And I'm it just pains me to see this sort of situation. And again, I want to point out that Senator Amanda chase has been a great friend to police officers. She's carried legislation. She's advocated on behalf of. Of the law enforcement community and enhance pay and better benefits and better working conditions and all the rest of that. So it's just a very sad sort of a chapter. It is four fifty Jeff Katz? Newsradio WNBA no truth to the rumor that the next politics in pints was going to be at the Richmond Coliseum, but we did sell so many tickets the last two times we needed.
