"It will be harder for biden to get through as big a tax hike as he might ordinarily like if the democrats had a wider jn in the majority and so the conclusion was we're gonna get even bigger increases in spending but smaller increases in taxes. And that's the best of both worlds because we get a double dose of stimulus we get more government spending and we get less taxes so we have all this extra money and this is great for the economy is lousy for the economy. I understand why they think it's great for the market because the only thing. The market's going forward is inflation stimulus. And so you think we're going to have more inflation more stimulus because of bigger budget deficits. That's great but if you actually understand the consequences of these bigger deficits being monetize by an even bigger. Qe program in more money printing more inflation. You realize how counterproductive this is. But it is not the best of worlds for the us economy or the us stock market but it is the best of both worlds for gold and silver. It is the best of both worlds for my investment strategy of investing internationally in foreign stocks in both developed and emerging markets and having a commodity focus. It's just you don't have enough people on cnbc. Smart enough to figure that out. And i think talking about people not smart enough to figure stuff out or about bubbles. I think is a really good segue to discussing bitcoin. 'cause i gotta talk about it again. We've had a lot of volatility in bitcoin over the last few days member. Bitcoin got up to almost forty two thousand a bitcoin and then last night it actually traded below twenty nine thousand which is still every high price but that represents a thirty percent decline from its recent peak which is a pretty big drop if you happen to buy some bitcoin above forty thousand certainly doesn't feel like a safe haven or store value if your bitcoin is worth thirty percent less than what you pay of course all the bitcoin pumpers say hey. Volatility is just the price you pay to get rich right this. It's a guarantee that bitcoin is going to go up. So you just have to be willing to ride out this volatility and you're going to get rich. of course. there is no guarantee. Bitcoin can collapse. It could fall and then keep falling is just an all. These holders have been conditioned to think that after every big drop is a new rally because so far. That's how it's worked out but you know there's an old saying in the investment game past performance is no guarantee of future success and that is especially true when it comes to bubbles because there's only so big a bubble can get before it deflates for good now. We don't know that size yet when it comes to bitcoin. Is it possible that that forty two thousand was the top. Yeah it is possible. I mean i thought twenty thousand was atop for awhile and it turned out not to be. So maybe it's forty two thousand or maybe it's some bigger number. I don't know. I'm not smart enough to figure that out but what i am. Smart enough to know is that it is a bubble and that it is going to crash. One guy though..

"B. e. dot com slash goal. Well the markets finished a positive week on a relatively quiet note. It was a mixed bag. You had the nasdaq and the russell. Two thousand positive on the day while the s&p and the dour the dow was down one hundred and seventy nine points point five seven percent. The big drag on the dow was ibm which was out with earnings after the bell yesterday but before the open today an ibm was down just under ten percent. Nine point nine percent. I don't know why anybody surprise when ibm misses its numbers. Because i think it happens pretty much every time it reports you know. Ibm has really been the poster boy. It was for massaging earnings manipulating earnings. And now a lot of those chickens have been coming home to and they haven't been able to a high the bad numbers anymore and so They're being released in. The stock routinely gets hammered When those numbers come out also gold. Stocks had a positive week as did the price of gold. Although there was a lot of selling pressure on gold this morning kind of out of nowhere. Gold gotten hammered. It was down over thirty bucks early in the morning. No real reason for the move. Although gold did manage to cut its losses about in half. I guess by the end of the day down about seventeen bucks still closing the week above eighteen fifty silver though was still down better than forty cents about forty nine cents again still had an overall positive week but ended the week on a relatively sour note although all of the macroeconomic fundamentals could not be more positive for golden silver. So today's sell off makes no sense against the backdrop of what's going on although this seems to be par for the course that the medals have been following for the entire bull market and my advice is always been just to take advantage of the dips and to use them as an opportunity to buy in fact what are the bullish. What's going on with their constituents what the most dire and important needs are for their constituents. And so this plan reflects the urgent needs the things that people need right now. I mean, We've got millions of Americans unemployed. We've got thousands of Americans dying from the virus every day. There's no question. We're in a state of emergency here, and this plan is designed to get the relief that people need to them right away. And President elect Biden looks forward to working with Congress to get bipartisan support for this bill and get it done as quickly as possible. First things first inaugural address that comes on Wednesday. You just heard, Congressman Myers say it's time for an open, honest and transparent discussion from president for President Biden, he says, rejecting the politics of deception. What can Americans expect to hear on Wednesday? What is the major goal of this address? So I think what you'll hear from President elect Biden on Wednesday will be a reflection of a lot of what you heard from him on the campaign trail, which is that he believes we can bring this country together. He believes that we have to bring this country together. That A unified America eyes the only way that we're gonna be able to tackle the massive crises that were grappling with. I won't go too much farther in terms of previewing this the speech because I'll let the president elect speak to it on Wednesday. I think you can expect that This will be a moment where President elect Biden will really work to try to turn the page on the divisiveness and the hatred of the last four years and really lay out a positive, optimistic vision for the country. And lay out a way. Atlanta path forward that really calls on all of us to work together. I think that's what Americans all across the country want. They want a government that once again is focused on doing the right thing by them on Del Ping them in their day to day lives, and so you're going to hear President elect bite and really lay out a vision to get us to a place where we can work together. Because that's what Americans want. That's what they voted for. In this election 81 million Americans voted for President elect Biden in part because he was laying out a vision for this country that gets us to a place where we can work together, so you'll hear a lot of that from him on the 20th. He'll be delivering that message across an empty mall there. The Capitol Mall, the entire U. S. Capitol, become an armed camp. Right now, you've had to cancel certain parts of the inauguration. Well, that is certainly our plan. I think that will send an incredibly important visual image to the world about the resilience of American democracy on go our plan, and our expectation is that President elect Biden will put his hand on the Bible with his family outside on the west side of the Capitol on the 20th. Look, there is no question though. Of course, we are in a volatile time. I think you know, unfortunately, only have to look at the chatter on social media to see that we're in a volatile time. And so we're making preparations will begin meeting tomorrow daily meetings with the outgoing leadership in national security and law enforcement to ensure that we're preparing for any scenario that That should arise after noon on January 20th. So we're working to ensure that will be prepared. But we have full faith in the United States, Secret Service and their partners have been working for over a year. The supply probably is going to take weeks to a couple of months to to have some kind of impact. The answer to that question directly influences the next part of the plan pushing states to reach a larger swath of people. I mean the biden plan is a breath of fresh air. Dr marcus. Pleasure represents state and local health departments and is optimistic but also realistic. It could take weeks to get production. Discuss real people over sixty five people with medical conditions. The poorest people who are essential frontline workers. All those people need to get the vaccine as soon as possible. We can't give back same doses that we don't have and when it comes to reaching disadvantaged in often minority communities the biden plan includes more sites an educational campaign plush points out the issue of trust must be addressed. We got to be attentive to that. What stays and locals can do is work with those communities. They have trusted relationships with organizations like base communities where they can go and really try to help build people's confidence and really address some of the vaccine. Hesitancy that we're already starting to see and the national guard and fema will federal muscle to add new locations for vaccination is try to expand the existing sites initially and we could see the result of that pretty quickly getting new sites up and running. Economics editor Peter Coy Peter, What do we know so far about what the package will contain? How will be different than anything that passed during the Trump administration? The big thing will do is give more money to people. The checks, which were limited to $600, under the bill, that passed under Trump would go up to 2000 under this bill, which, of course, with Democrats massing for all along. It also extend in the supplemental unemployment insurance, which is scheduled to run out and march. More aid to states and localities, which is something that the Democrats are pushing for, and they were not able to get through under the Trump Administration. Let this one go for things like vaccine deployment. And trying to get schools open. Which is you know has been a big priority for President Biden, Child tax credit and so on. So this is the first stage by the way, there's another asked these could be having later be going beyond this 1.9 trillion It'll get into things like infrastructure and climate, but he wants to knock this one off first. Look at $350 billion in state aid $160 billion for vaccines. What is the likelihood that he will be able to get Republicans onside? Given the history here? I believe no Republicans supported Bill Clinton's first economic plan, and just even less than a handful. Obama's right only three for Obama. So there's a long history of lack of bipartisanship in Washington. Nothing new here, although, of course things of reaching extreme. Over the past week. Actually, the fascinating question is whether Biden is going to get any kind of honeymoon from Republicans in Congress. It could be that the blow of the capital invasion last week was so extreme Don't rattle people and caused him to behave a little bit differently and maybe say, you know, let let's see if we can work together. That's going to be the Bidens play tonight. A couple hours from now, I'm sure that's the way he's gonna invite kind of pitch things thing. Folks, that's all something he would say, folks. Let's see if we could work together on this for the good of the people and stop making this a zero sum game. Well, That was my next question, Peter, because obviously we saw you know a significant minority of Republicans supporting impeachment. And I wonder if the way the Trump Administration is ending changes the way the Biden administration will begin. And if the fact that he has been, you know all along, he hasn't been focused on impeachment himself, or at least saying that he is he's been focused on that message of Unity. How much does that help him? I think that message that resonates with a lot of people. But then others look at this and say you claim you're in favor of unity. And yet here the Democrats are trying Torto convict the Trump of high crimes of his tippin ear's, Um, you know, you can't have it both ways, So it's gonna be interesting, but you know, there are Republicans in the House and Senate. Who like the idea of getting more money to people. Marco Rubio of Florida, for example, is in favor of the $2000, and it doesn't take that many Republicans to sign up. They need 60. Votes in the Senate to pass this without having to worry about a filibuster. Now. What about the actual distribution? Obviously, it wasn't so smooth during the Trump administration. What is your level of confidence that Biden's team will be? Significantly better And if the process once something is past will go smoothly. It's I don't think he's gonna wave a magic wand and suddenly everybody's gonna get the vaccine. I'll talk with Justin about that coming up at the bottom of the hour. We'll pharmacies say that they have a scene. President elect Biden's vaccine goals and that they can meet them. Marc Rayman Lard is covering the story for us and joins us now Mark. What's the latest? Yes. So it's a tall order for what President elect Biden wants to do. He said that he wants to get 100 million people vaccinated in the 1st 100 days in office, so one million people per day. S 01 of the things that we're hearing is particularly today. The National Association of Chain Drugstores, which has about 40,000 member pharmacies around the country, says That you know they need to start being utilized Right now. The vaccines being distributed to states it's some of it's going to those CBS is and Walgreens, which have been doing the outreach into the long term care facilities. But the idea of sending the doses to retail pharmacies is something that was meant to come later in the vaccination campaign. And so this particular associations is saying, Look, if you think of 40,000 pharmacies across the country where, according to them, 90% of Americans live within five miles of one of those pharmacies. That's a pretty good way to get to 100 million doses. So this is one group that's calling for that. But no doubt it's not just the pharmacies. We know the supply is an issue of the logistics of shipping. These things out is an issue. It's going to be a challenge for Biden to complete what he says he wants to do with or without these pharmacies, no matter what, and even with the shortcomings of the vaccine program to this point It almost seems like he's betting on a sure thing. I know the 100 Million and 100 days is a stretch. But once we see a lot of these early hiccup sort of being ironed out, the expectation is, But for most people, I think That we will see the numbers increased greatly so that it wouldn't necessarily be. It's a great gold toe Have. How's that? Yeah, Yeah, sure. And but it's gonna be a challenge. No matter what I think, you know, in terms of vaccine supply, it seems like it is According to the Trump administration yesterday. They've decided to now you know, release all of their supply that we have no longer holding back the second dose, and they said that they did that because they felt that the supply line from the manufacturers visor and Madonna Is solid enough that they're they're confident that if we get 10 million doses, we don't need to hold back five million of them to make sure we have the second dose for people. We think that in 21 days or 28 days, we'll have the supply so So that's positive, and but hopefully everything continues going that way. And you know Madonna, for example, alone, said that let's see, we've purchased 200 million doses of Madonna. They are planning to deliver 80 million doses in the first quarter of this year, and then the second quarter of 100 million more. And so that's one vaccine not including The millions of doses that were supposed to get from Fizer so the supply could be there. It's just I think what you're saying is kind of working out these initial phases where the wheels can start spinning faster and moving better that eventually you could perhaps get to that 100 million in 100 days. And again. It's not like we're going to get the vaccines and life goes back to normal. Unfortunately, we mentioned it. Earlier, The New England Journal of Medicine says that it looks like Protection doesn't start until 12 days after the first shot, and that's only at a 52% effectiveness rate. After the second vaccination. The effectiveness rate goes up to 95% for The Fizer vaccine and for them, Oh, Derna, it goes to 94% and as the director of the Vaccine Education Center was quoted as saying, That's not 100%. What That means is one out of every 20. People who get the vaccine could still get moderate to severe infection. That's not perfect, right? It's not perfect. And again, you know, I think one of the things that's going to happen here, too, is eventually by the time we get so many people vaccinated that need to be vaccinated. It's but it's possible because we don't know how long the protection lasts. That some people may run that course we still have yet to figure that out. I was actually just You know, looking into this in terms of trying to figure out if you know people are starting to get vaccinated in mid December. Uhm you know if it lasts four months or five months or six months, we don't know. But By the time most of the American population is getting vaccinated in in the spring into the summer, you know we could be running out there might be a need the need for refreshes what I'm trying to say So I think that you know there's still definitely The caution here from health officials that it's gonna take a while for us to get to perhaps back to normal and get the amount of people vaccinated that we need to get back to normal. And this is why again even if you get that vaccine Still saying, you know, the mass, the social distancing hand washing all of that is still paramount for people to continue to do, Mark.
