"New York and coming up today. UBS buys Credit Suisse in a historic deal worth three and a quarter $1 billion. How will crisis in the banking system affect the fed as it meets this week? And what's the future of what remains of SVB? Chinese president Xi Jinping beginning a three day state visit to Moscow, former president Donald Trump claims he will be arrested on Tuesday while in sports Barcelona knocks off Real Madrid in an el classico. On Bloomberg 11 three O New York, Bloomberg 99 one Washington D.C., Bloomberg one O 6 one Boston, Bloomberg 9 60 San Francisco, Syria's exam one 19 and around the world on Bloomberg radio dot com and via the Bloomberg business app. Morning to you, I'm Brian Curtis here in Hong Kong, joining me, Paul Allen, and Krishna and later we'll have the former fed bank of Atlanta president Dennis Lockhart with us to take a look at this big weekend. Historic weekend in looking at banking and let's get right over to Doug prisoner for the impact on the market studies. Yeah, we're tracking market reaction to that big banking deal in Switzerland over the weekend, UBS now buying its rival Credit Suisse. We'll take a closer look at the nuts and bolts on this transaction momentarily. I'm looking at the E mini futures market now. This would be for the S&P 500 contract up about a half of 1%. Now, currency markets have shown a bit of volatility here right now, some dollar weakness creeping in with a Bloomberg dollar spot index down just about a tenth of 1% and a weaker yen curiously one 32 20 against the greenback. It's now a little past ten in the morning in Sydney. We've got the equity market up and running. A bit of weakness right out of the gate for the ASX 200 were down about a tenth of 1%. Now, a big news later today will actually happen earlier today in the U.S., the fed and 5 other major regional, a major central banks announced coordination to boost liquidity in markets. This will take place through an expansion of their current U.S. dollar swaps arrangements. Now these central banks involved in dollar swaps will now increase the frequency to 7 day maturity operations that's up from a weekly basis. At the aim here is obviously to alleviate a lot of the stress that we've been talking about within the financial system. It kind of puts up a bit of a firewall against credit contraction. The fed typically does this when there is a squeeze on available dollars. We will not have trading in U.S. sovereign debt Brian for about another hour until the Tokyo session gets underway. A two year treasury last quoted at three 83. All right, three minutes past the hour. Let's take a look at the top stories here. Switzerland's UBS buying its main rival Credit Suisse. It's an all stock deal valued at three and a quarter $1 billion. Let's get the story from Bloomberg, Suzanne Palmer. Success for the Swiss, UBS group agreed to buy Credit Suisse group in an historic Swiss government brokered deal aimed at containing a crisis of confidence that threatened to spread across global financial markets. We're hearing UBS is paying more than $2 billion for Credit Suisse. It'll be an all share deal and priced at a fraction of Credit Suisse's price at the close on Friday when the bank was valued at about $8 billion. The plan struck up in crisis talks over the weekend had to be done to address a massive route in Credit Suisse stock and bonds over the past week following the collapse of smaller U.S. lenders, a liquidity backstop by this Central Bank couldn't calm fears of problems spreading to the broader industry. U.S. authorities were working with their Swiss counterparts because both lenders have operations in the U.S. and are considered systemically important in Switzerland, and all this ahead of the markets open in Asia from Monday trading. Susanna Palmer Bloomberg daybreak Asia. Well, needless to say, the stakes could not be any higher for the fed as it prepares for a policy meeting this week. The Central Bank is caught between on one hand, high inflation and on the other a crisis of confidence within the banking system. Here is Bloomberg opinion columnist Muhammad el Arian speaking earlier to Fox News Sunday. They should do two things. One, they should raise interest rates by 25 basis points a quarter of a percentage point because we have an inflation problem. And we need to get over this inflation copy. And second, they need to remind people credibly, which is going to be hard credibly that we have multiple tools. Interest rate policy to deal with inflation and other tools to deal with financial instability. Now, LA and went on to say the worst thing the fed can do is blink in the eye in front of financial instability. However, not everyone agrees, former Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd blankfein says the fed should pause here. He spoke earlier with CNN's fareed zakaria. I personally think it would be okay to stop here. It is a certainty that this will that this situation will act in a way that's similar to a rate rise in some ways. Blankfein also urged protection of deposits at smaller and regional banks. He said consumers may come to rely only on the biggest banks. And that he said could lead to consolidation in the financial sector. Blankfein said that that would be a negative development for America's large and growing economy. Meantime a coalition of those mid sized U.S. banks, they want federal regulators to extend FDIC insurance to all deposits for the next two years. Now these banks are arguing, the guarantee beyond the current quarter of a million cap is necessary to avoid a wider run on the banks. At the same time, senator Elizabeth Warren is favoring an increase in the FDIC insurance cap, here she is speaking earlier on CBS face the nation. I think that lifting the FDIC insurance cap is a good move. Now the question is, where's the right number? But recognize that we have to do this because these banks are under regulated and if we list the cap, we are relying even more heavily on the regulators to do their jobs. That is senator Elizabeth Warren, now other lawmakers are voicing

"I'm not sure if it's going to use moderate and gross at the same time in these games. I think that they're going to bring valve into me feeling trying to bring another man up front. They need to score gold in each to create chances and with Valverde in the middle of the park give that extra of a box to box me feel there and maybe Rodrigo upfront or essential players who can score gold can create who can be dangerous and then tied up a little bit that right side of about it that is a play who likes to go forward. So I liked that these 11, but I'm not sure if Angelo is going to try to be like a experienced players. Keep the ball quite a lot, but no legs enough, no fresh legs, no young legs who can run up and down that is probably sometimes what is going to happen for Real Madrid so I spent by the way to play in the middle. The only thing I would say be nice to defend my choice is to win back Louis's field. Well, I don't think that's going to happen. Is that if you're antelope, you need to have a change of pace coming off the bench. You need to have somebody that can change the game for you. And if you use Rodrigo for on the start and then you look down the bench when there is a moment in which you have to be able to find something different, there is in a whole lot hanging out for you in that bench that you can trust to give you what you need when perhaps a goal for Real Madrid is needed. When you need to go chase it, when you need to find yourself with a different type of player, Rodrigo, maybe that type of player, all those other options are not. So if I use Rodrigo from the beginning, I no longer have those options coming off the bench. Well, the two will be on the coverage again tomorrow, so we can see if they agree, disagree. We'll see how they match day plays out. But we thank Luis Garcia, we're going to let you get some rest now, Louis, because it is a very big day tomorrow. Oh. All right. Well, have a good night, Luis. "Strides. Reigns strikes scores. We're tied in one. Magic from Messi. Astonishing again. He's onside. He's beating the defense. He draws Valdez Christiana Ronaldo with a platinum touch. Welcome to our el classico pod special. Presented by ESPN+ yes, a special podcast because as the name suggests, we are on the precipice of Barcelona versus Real Madrid el classico, the most famous club rivalry of the modern period, and before we sift through the tombs of this rivalry, teams which could film Madrid's bibliotheca national now, we want to remind you where you can watch Sunday March 19th installment at 4 p.m. Eastern Time, where on the SPM plus of course, that little soccer ball icon has saved me so many times with the best coverage of La Liga. The Bundesliga and the English championship, you can watch all of it, especially the Americans playing across all those leagues, including this Sunday's el classico by signing up at ESPN+ dot com slash G FOP. ESPN+ dot com slash GF OP. So let's get into this clash which is rooted in Spanish culture and history, a classic out and Monica first uttered back in 1929, one that conjures the shadow of general Franco, the majesty of the Stefano and Johan Cruyff, pig's head thrown at turncoat players, standing ovations from Real Madrid fans for Barcelona's Ronaldinho, Messi versus Ronaldo, pep versus Marino, ray Hudson versus the thesaurus, a game that's both deeply local and immensely global, Spanish Paul wants to determine over 60% of Spaniards support either one team or the other. And it's also massive outside of Spain. A classic has emerged to become one of the most watch fixtures in all of sport. You'll find bottling the fans in Southeast Asia living and dying because of their intense hatred of Real Madrid. And joining us to talk about it, I am genuinely thrilled to welcome a gent who moved from North London to Madrid in 2001 and has in the eyes of all football fans really become the one true king of Spain, a Spanish football correspondent for The Guardian, agency's literally written the book on this topic, fear and loathing in La Liga. Welcome. Oh, mister Sid. Hello. I really wish I'd had a pen and a piece of paper to hand when you started that. I would have taken all of that down. That was the blurb that I needed for the back of the book, which I never had at the time. It's just completely completely nailed it. Thank you. It's a choice to see you always, but particularly because a classic egg game that transcends both also for many people around the world the game that defined club rivalries. And I want to start there. Before we get into the history, the cultural context, because purely as a spectacle, it is such a singular delirious thing to witness. Elton John had say, said you've been to as many classicos as I've had hit records, how would you describe the visceral experience of a Real Madrid Barcelona rumble and how it's experienced, not just in Barcelona or in Madrid, but in Spain, a large. Yeah, I think that's the really key element to this. And first of all, by the way, I don't know how many hits Elton John's had and whether he's now ahead of me a number of classics or not. I suspect I might actually be ahead of him now. If that's the comparison. Couldn't get Elton. Yeah, absolutely. I want to see now Watford. Anyway, I think that the key point is the one that you made there at the end of that question, which is really about the way in which it takes over Spain. Now, and obviously what's happened, I think, over in actually in the time that I've lived here, is the internationalization of it. The way that this seems to be a game that now, I know it's a cliche, but I'm going to use it, I hope it's the last cliche I use, but that idea of this being the game that sort of stops the world, you know, that everybody stops to watch it, but this is the game that takes over people's lives. And I think one of the things that, as I say, that process is becoming international over the last, I don't know, I would say maybe ten, 15 years, perhaps a little bit longer than that. But it's always been the game that matters most to Spain and that genuinely has that sense of stopping everything else. The best way of explaining this really, I suppose, is to say that this weekend, there are ten games in the Spanish first division. The other 9 feel like they don't exist. Now that's not entirely true, and I've always been the champion of what I tend to refer to as the other 18 clubs. You know, the fact that these clubs exist and they're too often overlooked, but the weekend of the classico, it can genuinely feel like they don't. In fact, it can feel like they don't, for quite a lot of the year because these two teams do dominate, you mentioned that statistic of 60% of fans, I think one of the other elements to this is that and those fans who don't manifest this will have to accept my apologies for saying so. But there is in Spain, I think, an inbuilt preference that everybody has for Madrid or Barcelona, even if they don't support them. So you've got that 60%. And then you've got the fact that of the 100% of people who are interested in football, I would say, 90% have a built in preference, one of these two, which doesn't change.

"As she joins Luis Garcia now, actually Alexis. The last time I saw you, you were hanging out with Ryan Reynolds this time I hear that you've been at Barcelona's media day, conducted interviews. What was the vibe like there? You know, okay, it's a tough life out here, but someone has to hang out with Ryan Reynolds, and I'm so glad it was me. Now I'm back with my partner in crime, though Ryan Reynolds, who we've got Luis Garcia and we got to hang out with the likes of Ronald at ojo, as well as Marcos Alonso, who will hear from shortly because I did get to chat to him ahead of this massive el classical. And I mean, it was probably the most comfortable, happiest, bubbly, Barcelona media day. I think I've been to since we've started covering La Liga. It's just a complete change right now. All of the players were so relaxed, Robert Lewandowski strolled in and said, hi to everyone, gave high 5s to people. You know, everyone from the media managers to the staff that was there. We're so happy it was a sunny day. People have their coats off. They were offering us Walter. I was like, I could get used to this Barcelona to continue winning because finally, you know, you do see that things are starting to click up Barcelona and could be for a number of different reasons why they are like that. As you mentioned, they have played Real Madrid in a couple of editions of the classical so far already this season. They've got to win the last two that they've managed to play, including that super copper wind that we were present at in Saudi where shabby was just absolutely over the moon. And you just get the sense that something definitely has shifted there, but we know it is el classico. And this is one of, if not one of the biggest rivalries in world football, one of the biggest games in world football certainly the biggest game in this country. And we tend to say that form goes out the roof, but when you do go up against a team, especially like Real Madrid, who come at you nonstop and it was interesting to talk to Marcos Alonso about this because he actually grew up in the Real Madrid system, his grandfather even played for Real Madrid. His father we know also played for Atlético de Madrid. So it was interesting to hear his thoughts before what's going to be his debut el classical at the camp now. But it's always a huge game. The rivalries there and now it's a special moment, but I think until we are not mathematically champions it's really to talk about the title. But for sure, there will be three important points to play for and we will try to do our best and try to get the three points. Do you feel like you guys in the last two that you've won? Do you feel like you've learned almost a formula to get

"In La Liga. And that we could probably possibly see that happen again at the weekend fitness depending. So I wrote her has played them great and Venetian junior has to find a way whether it's changing flanks or whether it's coming into the middle a little bit and asking a question whether the right bike is going to follow them. Whatever it is, it has to find something to get more out of this classical at the weekend than it has over the last two because that failure there has played them absolutely brilliantly. He's begging strong. He can get tighter than it's just junior because he's very quick as well. So he's not worried about spending them behind because he knows he's got the pace and it's going to be intriguing that the weekend to see a javi does the same thing again and be a Real Madrid try to count all that. And is that what you hope for I shaker is a goalkeeper that your defender deals with him before he gets to you. Yeah, because one and one is lethal. He is good. And as a keeper is always difficult to play against players who run it with that kind of pace because it's tough to judge exactly where they're going to meet the ball, which they're going to go with. So you hope that your defense takes care of that. And as much praise as we've heaped on finishes junior, I still think it was better last season and that's a concern. I still think he's growing into who he is as a player. As good as he is, I think he gets better wanted starts recognizing that consistency that I think is needed. Well, we'll be here in ma from Louisa tomorrow. We're going to let him get some rest over there in Barcelona. It's cold, but we will be hearing from him on tomorrow show. "Minutes more. Okay, thank you. Gemma joins us and now Gemma, I've heard that you've been hit by a ball and sprinklers. Postgame. Very fun. Which was very nice. Yeah. It was almost as fun as the game that the truth, I mean, it was like the exciting and classical it's always something special. And yet another time that topical that who arrives better at el classico doesn't mean that they are going to win, I think it would happen earlier today. He had the Santiago Bernabeu with a Real Madrid absolutely frustrated by Barcelona. It was an extremely defensive version of barza. They just had 35% possession here, is the lowest position since 2008. They generate really not much Barcelona, but real regenerated much less, not a single shot on target, a extremely difficult. Feel like very comfortable. Ronald araujo is the kryptonite for benicio. He was unable to generate any kind of danger. So I was a little bit surprised by that kind of optimistic version of Carlo Ancelotti saying, we just need to do the same. Next time it's going to go better. I'm just shouted at him, jemma. No shots on target. You had no shots on target. I don't care about control. It's true that let's give them credit. They managed to steal the ball from Barcelona, but they were in an exercise of surviving. They were missing four of their key players. They were playing a great from home after two defeats in a row. So they came here to survive and to try to forget about that to the feeds and to get a result of these results to try to win in a month time in Barcelona. So it's been a strange I think if there is a happy person in Madrid right now, that person is el chalo Simeone because watching Barcelona plague like almost his Atlético. He must fail very proud. Of your not happy, you're very objective. Definitely no Barcelona bias from you, Gemma. Yes. No, maybe not. Maybe not. Yeah, but thank you very much. Just a reminder, of course, La Liga action
