Like you can mitigate the problem by getting stronger throughout your lower half, but you don't necessarily change the way that your body is built over time. So Evan Mobley this year as an 18.2 defensive rebounding rate if he's going to be like a legitimate defensive like stopper. I think that like people are projecting him is like this like frankly like all defense guy off feels like that's what the idea here is right for like some people. Yeah, I guess that's projection but I don't necessarily see that. Yeah, I think he liked could get there in a playoff setting where switch ability is just a lot more important. Right? Like I think that he can be an incredibly valuable Center in a playoff setting because of that switch ability and plus is like ball skills and everything but I do worry that over the course of an eighty-two Game season where he's kind of getting beaten up like across the court. Is he going to be effective enough as offensive rebounder? I think that you're going be able to mitigate that as a team, but do so, you're going to have to put a couple of really strong rebounding players next to him in a lineup which just frankly kind of limits the way that you build bots in a little bit if.

MLB's Next Steps and Minor League Crisis
"Is this Jeff Passan or is it jet passing? This is Jeff, Passan but Jeff Passan may actually have been right except like a week or so early. Maybe Jeff. Passan isn't. MLB INSIDER FOR ESPN jet passing. Is someone on social media pretending to be jeff who incorrectly tweeted last week that the league in players had reached an agreement. Jet Passan actually deemed me to apologize. That's actually really nice. It was. He's a he or she don't know. Let's not not all trolls don't know who who Jeff Passan's but jet said it was intended for my friends and I didn't realize ten thousand likes later. The as many people were going to see it. So, Jeff talks between the Union and the League of heated up as the clock is ticking down, there's been a lot of back and forth with you, reporting that the owners are preparing a new offer, but let's back up to last week when they before their last offer, which had huge pay cuts for the stars. The players soundly rejected it then on Sunday night. Mlb Pa submitted a counter proposal to the league. What did they ask for? In that deal was really the opposite of what the owners had proposed earlier in the week, MLB had proposed an eighty two game schedule with significant pay cuts that were on a gradient and grew larger for the players who are making more money. This was a total nonstarter for the players who have been sticking with this notion of having pro-rated salaries paid in full, so the players on Sunday came back with not just full pro rated salaries, but over one hundred fourteen games in a season that would run all the way through the end of October so that there would be a postseason in November which we have never seen before. It was. Not Quite as radical as the owners proposal was to the players, because it included things like potential deferrals and a little tiny, give back, and saying hey will have expanded playoffs through two thousand, twenty, one as well, but this was never going to be the type of proposal that the owners would consider. Let alone except. So, what are the owners counteroffer? Well, the owners having countered yet, but what they've done is they've discussed the possibility of going back into this March twenty sixth agreement that they have with the players and utilizing some of the language in there really as a Cudgel, this language essentially gives rob Manfred the commissioner, the right to make the schedule for the two thousand twenty season. Now it's after good faith discussion with the players, but it says that a schedule can be made, and it has to include economic feasibility it has include a health and safety. It has to really include all of. Of these different things that could make it viable in major league baseball's mind, the most viable way to pay players a full prorated salary that they desire is to do so over a schedule of about fifty games. Give or take a few, and that doesn't seem like a lot because it's not, but it's also the thing that is going to leverage these discussions in one of two ways Meena. It's either going to get baseball back on the field in two thousand twenty, or it's going to get baseball on a courtroom arguing over legal ease in over the enforceability of these provisions. So one hand they said all right. We'll go back to the pro rated salaries that you guys have been clamoring for that. You claimed we all agreed to back in March, but on the other hand we might end up playing significantly fewer games correct and the reason for that according to the owners. Is that every game that they play this year? They are going to lose money now. This is a contention with which the MLB Players Association vehemently disagrees, and it has been seeking out documentation to support this idea whether it's television contracts, sponsorship agreements projections internally from clubs on what their revenues would look like as well as what they would. Would have to pay out both to players to employees and two others. They're looking essentially Meena for receipts, and the League has yet to provide that sort of information, because well, that sort of information for a long time has been privileged and I think there are some teams that are afraid that if they give up too much information, it's going to give too much leverage to the players in the future to understand how the finances work exactly, and you know if you're a team. "Jeff you've been cleaned broadcasts. Can you say hello in Korean yet? I'm young hustle. Meena was good. It was good. Yeah the Right Energy. I felt Jeff. Passan is an MLB insider for ESPN. Yesterday the owners approved a proposal. That Commissioner Rob Manfred plans to present to the players today for a return to play scenario that aims to have baseball back by early July. What is in the plan? How about baseball starting on the fourth of July light? Can we get any more American and look? I think that's part of this whole thing. I think that baseball wants to capture this part of the American sporting landscape that has just been dreaming of sports coming back and typically baseball during its season is competing with the NBA playoffs and with the NHL Playoffs and then training camp starts in the NFL and college. Football are in full swing by the time. The playoffs come around. Baseball has a pretty open landscape here. Which is what I think. Partially driving this as it stands right now. The biggest and most important things are spring training 2.0. Starting in June season of eighty two games starts up in July and the biggest of all is the revenue split between the sides now. Baseball is not a cat sports. The only American team professional sport that does not have a salary cap and so the notion of revenue split has never been part of the financial landscape but what? Mlb is proposing in. This first pass is a fifty fifty revenue split that tries to mitigate the downside for owners who say they are bleeding because of the corona virus pandemic has wrought and because when they return in this proposal it would in major league stadiums in their cities. There will be no fans there so it's pretty obvious why they want to do this financially right and the players as well financially but there's also tremendous risk for the players. Their families pretty much. Everyone who's actually in and around the fields. What have the players said so far the players have been fairly silent? You know you haven't had anyone come out and say no. This is not going to work behind the scenes. However that's exactly what they said. They're saying that this fifty fifty split plan is a complete nonstarter and they're saying this for a couple of reasons. One of them is fundamental. The players have so long fought against the idea of a cap. Remember back in nineteen ninety four when there was a strike. Major League Baseball wanted to institute a salary cap. The players were willing to lose a season and a world series to avoid that but beyond that what buttresses their argument right now they believe is the agreement in March that was signed between the players and Mlb and in the players minds that says explicitly that if a season begins they will be paid a prorated salary based on the number of game so eighty two games. They're going to get about half of their salary. Mlb's contention is that in this agreement. There's something of poison pill which is a phrase bat says all of this is valid unless there are no fans in stadiums now. Mlb is arguing that that little claws at the beginning of the contract applies to players salaries. What the Union is saying? Is that if you wanted that to be. In the salary portion of the agreement you should have put it in their explicitly. And because it's not in their explicitly. It's not valid. What about from a public health perspective? How is this actually going to work? I think is as unanswered question at this point as the finances are and it's because there's really no clear good roadmap to how to do this right we've seen in other countries we've seen in Taiwan and in South Korea baseball comeback but those are also places that haven't had anywhere near is to spread of Corona virus as we have what they can try to do is make it as safe as possible. Teams are going to play Games only inside of their division and against the Inter League team in those division so for example American League East teams will play only American League East and National League East opponents. The hope there is that limiting travel. You can take bus rides from New York to Philadelphia our from Philadelphia Washington but in the central divisions for example that that's just not realistic. Those teams are going to be taking flights practically every time they have to play a game so between that and figuring out how much testing can be done. It's a huge part of this. In another reason Meena why the players are as emboldened as they are because they feel like. They're the ones taking all the risk here. The owners aren't going out from place to place going out in public staying in hotels traveling coming into contact with people who might be infected. They're going to be staying in the comfort of their homes. If they want. If players played do not have that choice. They get stayed home for half the time. They're going to be on the road the other half.

Jordan and that greatness does inform the Lebron debate insofar as it has reminded us of how dominant Jordan was but of course he was playing a different era. Basketball was very different from how it is today which can make it hard to compare those two players or to evaluate how Jordan would fare in today's NBA. So let's start here and established that point of comparison. What was the league like Jordan came into it? Well Jordan came into the in nineteen eighty four and it was a very very different place. How valuable centers were sixteen of the twenty previous? Mvp Award winners heading into the one thousand nine hundred four eighty five season worst centers so Jordan entered an MBA. That's fair to characterize as a centers -ly And obviously it's very very different than what we're describing here in twenty twenty. So how big of a deal was it? That the best player in the League Michael Jordan was a shooting dude. You can't overstate. How big of a deal. It was really weird. I mean magic had showed us that point guards could be great. Bird showed us the power forwards and shooting. Forwards could be great no. Mvp had ever come from the shooting. Guard position nobody had really ever dominated the leak or won championships from that position or in that way and again one of the main things the makes Michael Jordan's such a special character in NBA. You see a guy who shoots near the hoop. He's great Basket attacking guard like Jordan But then away from the painting of the student only shoots threes. He avoids the Mid Range just like he avoids a shaving cream. And and then when you look at say Jordan you see almost the exact opposite remember that old image of Pan Jia and how the continent sort of fit together these two shots hearts kind of look like South America and Africa. Where Jordan is one shape all mid range and then a hardest jump shot activity is sort of surrounding that all three point airs. Jordan didn't shoot a lot of threes.

NBA Formally Proposes 78-Game Season, In-Season Tournament for 2021-22

Brian both from Adrian margin asking and Shamsher Rania the NBA has sent teams proposal for the twenty one twenty two season so this is the one thousand nine hundred twenty season so this would be two seasons from now. I'm just going to go down the list. You tell me if it's a hard no something you would consider. Yes okay. Seventy eight game season down from eighty to absolutely yes. You're not worried I'm with you but you're not worried that it messes is with the integrity of the stats like that. I don't care okay. I don't care either. Baseball went basement. There's no gain that's more stat driven than baseball in terms of how we honor people in this. Whatever it's not always been one hundred sixty two games in baseball dave adjusted and the big worry is if you go to seventy eight games these well? What are you GonNa the revenue that you made from the other four games because all of us are paid based on an eighty two game season? Here's your answer. It's the second thing in in season tournament so roughly thirty five games into the season. You have a tournament and the players each get a million bucks if they win it in. The coach gets a million and a half in season tournament halfway through. What do you think stupid disagree? Here's why right now. All we're not even thirty five games in there are. How many games the Lakers your twenty-five before they played basically thirty twenty nine Would you agree with me that there are eight to ten teams that we already know. Aren't making the playoffs. That's good for three games. Four games or whatever it might be and taking that at team and putting them into the playoffs over a team that gets you. Good are wondering about the last thing that the proposal that they sent to the teams final four when the teams get to the final four. You reseed in the play offs based based on regular season records. So if if the Lakers and the clippers battle for the Pacific Division. Let's say the Lakers went and the Lakers win. Sixty five games but the clippers finished second in one sixty four games. The Clippers then are not a division winner in that scenario. And let's say they have to play a a team from the Central Division that only one fifty five games right now. The reason the way it exists is the division winner. Has Home Court really. Yeah the clippers yet. The the clippers would would have to be the row team. This would reward you for a better regular season record regardless of your stand. Absolutely I agree. Very well be the best team in the east there, certainly one of the two, and that's a fifty fifty proposition the entire way definitively ready to pick the Toronto Raptors come out of these call me until then it means absolutely nothing to me. I respect the fact that the damn good team. And they've upgraded they've gotten better. But I'm not putting them ahead of the Celtics. And you know, the thing that makes me laugh right now, the blest is Celtics are like twenty fifth offensively. Do we really think that's gonna last kind of Europe is averaging sixteen point shooting eighteen percent from three boy rates? Do we really think this gonna laugh their leading score for the Boston Celtics right now, Jason Tatum seventeen and a half points. You really think that's gonna last?
