The Wild Ride of the '86 Mets: Inside Once Upon a Time in Queens
"Nick davis. I watched your four part documentary. Once upon a time in queens. It is debut in over two evenings tonight and tomorrow. It's the new thirty for thirty. And the thing that i was struck by about your story here about the nineteen ninety-six. Mets is how much of a character the city of new york is. And i know you're a native new yorker. I am a native new yorker but i was born in one thousand nine hundred five so i could not get enough of the city as you captured it. I'm curious why it was important to you that you did it in that way. Well i think the thing that always struck me about this team was that they captured the spirit of the city as well as any sports team. I can imagine. It wasn't just. The city fell in love with the team Which happens all over the place but the the way the team came together and the the rollicking wild crazy dangerous energy on that team mirrored the city in the eighty and that was always. The goal of the film was to talk about how the team and the city were fused and became one. You think about the nineteen seventy-five cincinnati reg team lots of wonderful personalities. But you don't associate them with cincinnati in the mid seventies the way you do the nineteen eighty six minutes with new york city

Extreme weather is now the norm. The news keeps getting worse. Recently there was a study published by nicholas bars from the potsdam institute for climate impact research and that was that the gulfstream could be varying towards irreversible collapse. Now the gulf stream is part of the atlantic meridional overturning circulation or a. m. Oc this circulation takes warm salty. Water from the tropics moves in north and then takes the cold water south. The study finds that the circulation is at its weakest in one thousand years. So what happens if the gulfstream collapses that will dictate extreme cold for parts of north america and europe. Is the collapse imminent well. That's not an easy question. Answer it could be decades away but as we have seen things are happening a lot faster when it comes to climate change not only will the disruption of the gulfstream resort in colder north american temperatures. It is predicted that there will be a rise in sea level disruption of the monsoon patterns and impacts on the amazon rainforest. An aunt arctic ice sheets. The study concluded that is that this is all a result of human endorse induced climate. Change in may of this year. I talked about a project out on lake. Tahoe called cleanup lake. That project had an ambitious goal of cleaning over seventy two miles of the mountain lake. So i thought i would give it a quick update on how the work is progressing. There update indicated that they have completed seventy four dives over twenty seven days of diving. The diver's consumed two hundred and eighty six cylinders of air. Today there have been eighty one volunteers who have delivered two thousand six hundred and eleven volunteer hours. Now i'm not sure if they're on pace to meet their objectives but that's not always the measure success. The amount of continuing effort is what really counts. Keep up the good work guys. The annual boston sea rovers clinic for this year is just one month away. The two thousand twenty clinic happened just a couple of weeks. Before the corona corona virus lockdowns took effect. We really didn't know how serious things were then. Now as we continue to emerge from the pandemic the show may just have the distinction of being the last face to face. Scuba show in the world before the pandemic and the first face-to-face scuba show in the world post pandemic monty. And i were at the last meeting. And everything's proceeding for the october. Who's planning to build a large warehouse facility on the property. The initial word was that dutch would shut down after the season while a lot has happened in the last couple of weeks i there was a petition that garnered over three thousand supporters to keep the place open and as we know petitions can only go so far then there was support from patty professional association of diving instructors patty due to white paper outlining the economic benefits dutch brings provides as a diving venue. Patty estimates that because dutch exists. It helps to generate three point. Four billion annual retail sales in the northeast they tag the economic benefit to bethlehem at thirty four point five million as for tax revenue. The paper indicates that about ninety. Eight point nine million is generated for state and local taxes and northeast and about two point one million for bethlehem in addition to patty support. The lehigh valley planning commission has called the proposal of disaster for the quality of life in the lehigh valley while it seems that there a great deal of opposition to maybe very little that can be done to stop the effort. One positive. I that i did see. Was that trammell. Crow was indiscretions with local officials to offload the fifty off lou to fifty acre quarry for community use. Just how would you get to acquire if they build the warehouses. I don't know while the saga is far from over. I would expect that we won't see. Dutch brings open for the twenty twenty two dive season but his al michaels once said. Do you believe in miracles. Well that's it for this edition of wet notes. Here on scuba shot radio for august thirtieth two thousand and twenty one

Gloves and protective gown is to protect him not me. His immune system has been decimated and he's battling new mississippi pneumonia. His breathing isn't great his chest heaving he sips air through an oxygen mask. I've brought him some watercolors so he can paint. We're talking about what he's going to do when he gets out of the hospital like going back to work and maybe a summer getaway to the countryside for the four of us. These are as much plans as they are daydreams. We've all become familiar with the hospital. Admission and discharge dance one infection. Suppressed live to fight the next one two days later barry just home from the pride march. The light on the answering machines blinking. barry presses. Play while i take off my shoes. I hear marks partners voice. Not the words his voice. I tried to block it out. I don't want to hear the rest of his message. It's too late. Mark is dead and then bury and i Planned his memorial service at the vassar club which was located in the lotus club which is a fancy private club on the upper east side which had never seen an aids memorial before berry came up with the idea of We called it the balloon benediction. We've got all these helium balloons that we brought with us to the to the lowest club and each one had a little plastic bowtie attached to it and after the service we went out to central park and we release the balloons with these little bow ties on them. That for us was we. Couldn't we couldn't say that it wasn't people like us. At that point.

Will Booster Shots Make a Difference?
"On wednesday. The president's top covert advisors cited a few early studies to make the case for boosters from new york from nursing homes from the mayo clinic. Plus there was some data from israel. I see two things. I i see a few canaries in the coal mine. I do see that. The is Specially from based on the us data. There is a diminishing of effectiveness against mild moderate disease. Here's michelle will get. The director of the centers for disease control and prevention on wednesday talking about a mayoclinic analysis of more than eighty thousand vaccinated and unvaccinated. People like we saw in the new york. Dana vaccine effectiveness against infection declined over time. In this case from seventy six percent to forty two percents for those who receive the pfizer vaccine and from eighty six percent to seventy six percents for those who receive. The madonna vaccine are also see that things seem to be holding up against severe disease including hospitalization. More or less which seems great but seems quick which is good. The other thing i see is whenever things are that nuanced. I want to see the whole ishii be process unfold. Who needs the advisory committee on immunization practices. It's a group of fifteen outside advisers. Doctors nurses public health specialists. Who make recommendations to the cdc on vaccines on cova. Yes but on other things too and the committee has a standard deliberative process. That anyone you were me can log on and watch the encouraging thing and something that got lost in a lot of coverage was that the actual verdon of things that came out yesterday was that they are doing this for planning purposes to start with september twentieth bending authorization from fda and bending the advisory committee on immunization practices review. So i as a scientist. I had weighed for the review because things are that nuanced.
Is Obesity Genetic?
"A lot of us still hold us misconception that obesity is all about willpower and self control. I know i have mentioned this. In the past as well and i just want to reiterate that obesity has been recognized as a chronic disease. A two thousand twelve online poll of eleven hundred forty three adults conducted by reuters and the market research from its source actually found that sixty one percent of the. Us adults believed that personal choices about eating and exercise what a sponsor for the obesity epidemic but interestingly the biologic cause of obesity was proposed as early as nineteen or seven as with other chronic diseases. That is a genetic competent obesity as well but before you started blaming it all on the jeans i do want to point out that this is certainly not the complete picture. Let's talk about the genetics. There have been various studies done on this to explore the genetic base of obesity. Quite a few landmarks were actually done before. We have the technology for genetic analysis. How were these studies done then. You might wonder well. These were done in twins ever wondered why identical twins look similar that's because genetically very similar fraternal twins on the other hand are not genetically similar. And that's why they also look different. So in nineteen seventy six. There was a scandinavian study conducted by 'em borgeson him to answer this question. How much of a role do genes play in obesity in children. The study design was simple and elegant. He enrolled forty identical twins and sixty one fraternal twins in his study. The twins that were selected for the study had at least one of the twins at one hundred fifteen percent of their ideal body weight. What makes this study. Really amusing is the fact that these two impairs had the same environment right from the womb. To the time they were studied what he found was that the head of the ability of obesity was anywhere between forty to sixty percent in one thousand nine hundred. Eighty six albertson card at the university of pennsylvania conducted another study proving this point further. He and his colleagues looked at danish adoption. Registry of five forty dollars the adoption records included the heights and the weights of the adoptees biologic and adoptive parents and when they analyze data and the looked at the bmi for both sets of the parents what they found was that despite having shared an environment within adoptive parents the adoptees bmi approximity those of their biologic parents rather than their adoptive parents. This study of course pointed to was the impact of jeans on obesity but did not provide any information on the extent of this

That's how he was on his show on curb your enthusiasm. That's how he is in real life. That's how he is when he wrote seinfeld. So larry david. He was relieved when he got uninvited. To barack obama's lavish sixtieth birthday party. Last weekend you heard all about it. You know erica. do apologize for you know. however she acted but So this larry david said. He explained that he feared by going to the party. They would kinda put him in that awkward position of. Hey d- mind you in a few minutes of you know. Stand up on. Larry beggars laughing dance. Dance monkey dance. Fortunately so here's the thing because things got scaled back whether he wanted to make the argument of you know people are like. Hey how are you throwing a party during the pandemic. They scaled the party back. Larry david got the cut from the list. Which at the end of the day guaranteed this will make. This will make a story line in an upcoming episode of curb your enthusiasm. Not only does he get cut from party list. He get cuts from the president's party. He goes when he told me. Immigration Numbers Need to Drop to Unify Country, Assimilate Present Immigrants Properly
"I have no problem with any race of people. I have no problem with illegal immigrant. That has come into our country now. Do i think that the number should be lower than they are absolutely. I've i've been out front saying that on this show many times. I think we should be. you know. basically we've taken and so many millions of people over the last couple of decades. Let's forty years. That i think america needs time to digest a very large meal. We need to chance for this for our culture to sort of assimilate everybody properly and to gain unity. That has also obviously been lost in the last number of decades. That's my biggest issue is. I don't like crowding. That's another issue. And i don't like when our culture is getting attacked from within by people that don't understand our culture but yet have legal claim to be here. I don't think that's a good situation for us now. The demographic shift this is what they're hailing now. A lot of people are saying that these numbers show that. There's an uptick in the cities. Now there's they're saying that the all this population growth there saying it's the lowest since the nineteen thirties into the depression. But folks i did that. The hard numbers. We're now at three hundred thirty. Three million people three hundred thirty three million people in america. You go back to like nineteen sixty. There's only one hundred eighty six million but the delta was twenty three million change between then and nineteen seventy twenty million change between nineteen seventy in one thousand nine hundred twenty two point six million so basically twenty three million between nineteen eighty and nineteen ninety. And then you know so. So what they're talking here is. They're saying the slowest rate of growth. It's because we have more people were still having. The total number has stayed constant roughly. We just had another twenty three point nine million increase between two thousand and ten thousand twenty. So we're still gaining over twenty million people every decade. it's just we have more people. So the percentage of that number is lower. So don't don't believe

How can you not tell the same guy joe. Different guys outnumber definitely not worrying so that of giving it away motherfuckers. Shed number whenever i e he told putin all of the places that he didn't want him to head here. But if you were here's a map honestly the security. I don't even think it's fair to count that one in the in the lineup of things. He's done stupid. I mean if it's sincere. Yes absolutely stupidest thing anybody's ever done in the history of the presidency. However i have to feel that maybe this was a bugs. Bunny like attempt at national international diplomacy. I see a like this. This is like a mind faulk okay. So he's going to putin and he's saying boy bosh. Whatever you do don't look in a briar patch situation. Mando call looking in that role. And it's like a trap in putin's is sitting there like this motherfucker want new in fact these places like i think you're giving him a lot more credit than he deserves a. "In his underrated as he is and I use as the greatest to ever play the game. And i think there's a really good argument for that but other people know david ortiz better. And i can't figure out why it's got to have something to do with being in seattle And i think. I think david ortiz thing is the postseason right. Never got that chance even even though he did perform when he did get the chance but he didn't get the chance on the big big big stage like poppy too. Yeah right. yeah. But that's what i'm saying that's like there's your but you come up with seriously. If you if you say list five top three even top three best of all time you have to have edgar martinez in there. You have to absolutely have to no matter what i mean. You'd be a fool not to so he was. He's my number three. And okay i refuse. I refuse to move him down to number. that's fine. hey let's let's take a quick break when we get back. Let's talk about your number two brig. Okay.

"Of feeling yes and save for me. Randy johnson has like just such a special place in my heart. I feel like you can't leave him off because like i said the role that he played on that team in those playoff runs like he was a twenty game winner in ninety seven when the mariners made the playoffs again he was an all star that season he was also an all star. Ninety three ninety four ninety five won the cy young award ninety five and like he didn't strike fear or king felix did not strike the feared two batters. That randy johnson did. Hey now that's that's the one hundred percent true. There's because again. Are you with that. Because i feel like with with king felix a nervousness of you. Know what's gonna come but you still can't hit both randy johnson. This guy might have a screw loose. I don't know where the ball's gonna come. He probably doesn't know where it's going to come. And i don't know if it's going to be one hundred. Three mound are fastball over. It's going to be in ninety. Nine are slider. Yep you know so like there was like a physical fear put into batters that very few other patriots have had course of over the course of a lifetime. He threw his first. No no in nineteen ninety cy young award winner ninety five and four thousand. Eight hundred seventy five strikeouts. That's strikeout nine of ten point six. Yeah he also had one thousand nine one thousand four hundred ninety seven walks which is pretty good for a guy with those kind of control issues and you know just shy at seven feet tall. Yeah yeah that was. One thing that i thought was funny that that yes the ball is coming out of his hand at one hundred plus because he's stepping halfway to the to the plate and he had he had a unique motion. You know a lot of guys have their arm at ninety degrees when they throw but he had that three quarter arm slot cocked. Where was yeah. Yeah it was like a sling. Coming out of there where yeah especially. Since armor so long for left handed batter the ball is starting four feet behind. You then have to swing back across the plate. Everything feels like it's coming at you at that point. Yeah yeah so as long as mustaches. And his mullet. That moore was males. But he just wouldn't been stockcar. That's the only difference. Exactly exactly the one problem. I have with randy. Johnson is that he went into. And i don't blame him for this. He went into the hall of fame as a diamondback as an arizona diamondbacks and you know he. He had good years in arizona. He won a world series of the diamondbacks. So i totally get that. They always wish that he had gone in as a mariners because he had he was so dominant in those years. But you know i can. I could see it because he was one. Two three four five time all star with the diamondbacks last time was when he was forty so it is what it is whatever. It's fine he's he's my he's the fourth guy. My mount rushmore. That's pretty good man i. I can't argue with you As far as not picking king felix. What i can do is tell you that you've left out. Arguably the most important personality in the entire franchise off your mount rushmore. Oh.

"That was like two weeks. It's like the last month of the season in chicago. A lot of people forget about that number seventeen with the white sox playing right field at the agent. What do you think about. It tells you your thoughts on the kid. Well so i mean you hit the nail on the head transcended baseball. You know the iconic backwards at the most beautiful swing. We have ever seen to date. I don't know of anybody who has kind of them. And cody bellinger. You could see kind of tries to mimic it. A little bit One time i noticed. His stance is very similar to griffey's He's changed it up since then His swing is a little bit in that direction. But i think that might just be. Because he's a lefty But i think you can see. There are some inspiration drawn there which is obvious. You know the kid who grew up in an mlb clubhouse but i mean griffey had influence over an entire generation of fans the only other guy can think of who had that kind of influence was michael jordan and their contemporaries playing in the midnight in the nineties early two thousands for sure their contemporaries and and you know as like my you know every day every kid playing baseball wanted to be like griffey And you know one thing that. I don't know how well known. This is about. His influence on the game is that griffey is his approaching. Bud selig is the reason that a they have. Jackie robinson day where everybody wears number forty two and also the reason. The jackie robinson's number is is retired across major league baseball. That's right ken. Griffey junior had that idea brought it to bug the but see like and it was executed. So i mean more than just on the field he i guess that's mostly on the field. But across the entire game that he understood the importance of jackie robinson his life and the league and he felt like it was important enough that everybody should understand that. And i think it's great. I thought when. I heard that i thought it was amazing. Somebody who cares way more about way more things than just himself because it could have been easy for him to be selfish his entire career. Oh for sure you know and you can argue that there were times. Be everybody's got to be selfish at some point you know. When he asked out of seattle we saw the junior documentaries because he was miserable he was. We wanted to be with his family. And i can't fault that especially especially being a dad you know but you know this the impact that he had on my favorite team growing up the i. I've spoken to people over the last few years. It's like i don't know why honestly if you didn't grow up in the pacific northwest. Why anybody be manners fan and the same answer. Every time is i grew up watching griffey like there. You go there you go well. Any japan You know what. I mean any any. Yeah all of the ten all star teams. That's transcendent right there. That's that's how you become a fan of griffey if you didn't grow up there in any way. Green griffey jr wins. He just as a winner wins all of the things that you can win so the gold glove every single year. He was in seattle. Is exactly he wins. All the things you can win. it's the thing does. Yeah yep absolutely saved baseball in seattle. I mean we can't..

But those are awful but they had angels behind them in L. A. B. Pee wee clue here. Okay. So shortstop nostalgia, like we have some great ninety shortstop nostalgia this guys kind of like he kinda gets left out of the discussion a lot and I don't know why maybe he was a little bit earlier than the rest of the glory era shortstops but this guy like. He was like he was a name back in the day. Ozzie Smith. Now, is that just too lay for ozzy but I was just thinking the person who is very large for. Barry. Larkin Island to Cooperstown for a vacation Wednesday, it was the year that Ozzie Smith was inducted hold on a second saucy. Mitch you went on a family vacation to the Baseball Hall of Fame Love It. Really how was it? Is Good Yeah we like why don't you go frauds? Who are you going to? Go for as Smith, eight just happened to be our summer vacation that year I think was it like the time of the induction? Did you see the whole ceremonial stuff? Yeah, I think it was like maybe the week leading up to I didn't see the ceremony but we went to in Oneonta Tigers game. We went to Howe caverns interest a nice little upstate New York kind of. trip. Yesterday. Is wanted to get in the footnotes. That was very cool when the reds went to the cut after is he's The stirs last year Barry Larkin era. anyways recipe pizza. Can Ask you a question he lives before we get to the recipe really quick. Have you caught up on big brother or now? So Christmas wants you saved the nominations of Nicola and David Okay. We can go the recipe. All right. Respiratory. Question. You did ask cut up there was technically a question. You've asked me many times if I ever repeat recipes. I'm going on like the third weekend five that I've made this because it's so good. I feel like people have a lot of tomatoes right now. 'cause a Lotta people started gardening over the summer is a quarantine activity. So this will use up lots of tomatoes. So it is Bruce Shehdeh or Bruce. Gada chicken. Exactly. Very Italian pronunciation. So is Bruce scattered up pronunciation? Pronunciation. Home Very. Abrasive that. Have, a lot of people started gardening. Maybe. It's up in the northeast. We got we got some friends brought over some tomatoes today. I feel like that was a thing in the spring. People were stuck at home in they were looking for something to do. So they started gardens now everyone has. Like a lot of Zucchinis and peppers and tomatoes. Remember us at the beginning of this whole thing. So much fun we're making baking. Bags in tick some banana bread and. Find some for the recipe we brisket chicken scattered check in. So I took three chicken breasts and I put them in a baking dish I season to them salt pepper garlic powder in I have a subscription to a Milkman, which is the most quaint thing to come out of quarantine. Truly crevices about this. So there's a cheese of the week. There's also a yogurt of the week, a Granola of the week, all sorts of great stuff. So the cheese of the week was Mozzarella, not like fresh Mozzarella, but the kind of Montreal like a block of it. Yes. I'm not saying it with an authentic Italian accent. So I sliced one to actors per chicken breasts of Mozzarella and bake debt forever line you need to bake it has like twenty five minutes at. Or twenty five or fifty years. and. Then while it's baking, I chopped up a bunch of little grape tomatoes with some olive oil basil salt pepper and a lot of garlic minced garlic let it all the flavors marinate chicken came out for the tomatoes on top so good and fresh and delightful. To use them local tomatoes in some. Milkman cheese that sounds so awesome. How'd you get a Milkman like the the advertiser you know someone that knows the Milkman Service Sir looking this up because i. Wanted to get this now, but it's only Connecticut Ohio Right. So minus two central Connecticut called the modern Milkman and I just saw a bunch of people feel like Charlie him. I just avenue of people that I know it was only in select towns in they were putting it on instagram. I was really jealous the chocolate mountains, mazing and. Yeah. They finally expanded to my town, and now I participate in the modern milk Nancy get like the glass bottles or it work and do they wear like the old like many costumes or no? I think that they rotate people in like one of them has a hat that they wear some time. That I love that. That's actually one of the great things that's come out of quarantining CSA's and farm shares. Milkman didn't like high quality products and not having like clam lettuce. Because it's so much better. Yeah it's so good. So you can get a half share full share so you can get four products are six or eight, and yeah, it's delightful. My favorite thing that they do is there yogurt and granola their spectacularly we live very different lives where you're getting milk delivered to you and I'm going on the Burki APP getting coupons for Wapner. Walkers are delicious. So we're GONNA keep doing that Lorenzo do you want to give us your thoughts? My final thought is I recently got into stamps. PS has a number. Fantastic. Stamps now support. Hose Office got. These are all one. On the. Celebrating the first lunar landing. Wow that the first moon landing on surprising. Sooner. This one this is. Why did you buy so many stamps Gone overboard no no because they're sending out..

"Okay. Well, lenses what five years older than you Lorenzo. A couple years older than me. I don't think no five. Doesn't matter was. Five two years older than you. I mean Lorenzo. And we went to the same high school but we never really interacted and it's funny because it's a small high school. So when I saw Lorenzo, I'm like man. I think that person went to my high school because Lorenzo's obviously a very unique looking individuals like if you see Lorenzo, there's not a ton of Lorenzo's around right? That's not insulting. Orange. Let's not insulting. Is it? Kind Baby Lorenzo's hair. This is aside looks like a little Sebastian from parks and REC. owner. Blonde. Like it's a little pony action, you know what I mean it's like the little. Little Sebastian ever forgotten. Really back to pole vaulting thought first off. Do you have a hero like a legend that you looked up to like? Oh Gerald Jones. Lewis Jones. Yeah Did you do that the Hydra did you did you get that Fosbury flop down just now I told you that I was in good at anything. And they tried they tried to to do it because I was a little bit tall for hi. I'm like six one or something, but which is not like super tall but like taller than a lot of the people on the team like, Oh, you should do high jump. It's like I have no for like this is not going to go. Well, it's an email to hijab. So last like five minutes and then hit the bar like four foot five something like, yeah you're not doing hijab for us. Do you remember those shoes that like they'd sell you in and you could be a Snack had those. Shoes. One that we're like platform shoes walk on your toes. Yes. Those. springy. You're in the back page of every East Bay man yes. Always so I couldn't jump over a phone book in high school would always be like. That, I need the shoes go to I need to go to my high school or after a coat and tie and I should be walking around with these shoes I'll be way more athletic. Did you buy them? No, he told me I was an idiot told me never getting them well, hello I'm an idiot who bought though and this is what I did my senior year because my junior year I was like okay bright but I was like man I have one. More year this. Let me go all out. Let me try to get good at this. Right. So I bought the shoes and I'm like I'm going to train with them. They come with like this little laminated like workout program, which is basically just do like short sprints and do like high knees. It's basically like stretches and stuff that you do with these shoes on. So I would go to like a public park and I do the second, the public park which was. kind of embarrassing because everybody has seen these shoes but no one's actually seen the shoes you know what I mean. So I have the shoes and I'm running around the park and I'm doing I'm like, okay whatever like this is. GonNa, help me out and then after like a week or two weeks of it, I just started practicing with the actual team unlike yet on the issues anymore doing actual stuff unlike what is it GonNa do is going to build. My Catholic am going to be dunking like what do I actually knew this for rights so the funny thing is, is that use them a handful at times like at the park when I was training and then I just put them in a closet and then like a couple years later I found them again and I'm like you don't WanNa, do I wanna get in shape where I'm dunking again? So I, get the shoes and. Then trying to use them and I'm like, I do the whole like thing again where I go the guards and I'm running around like this is like a probably at this point lake. I feel like I'm like twenty two or twenty, three or something this point I'm like too old to be doing this because I have no actual reason to do. So I'm running around the park in them. But these shoes now are like five or six years old. They haven't been used to get like the unused sneaker dot situation along running and I almost break my ankle because I plan on at one time in the platform comes flying off and I like roll my aunt for me. They told sliding. Just walk around like an idiot. Walking legs. Someone who's broken he'll basic we were one shoe is a lot taller than under China. Amazing by way, think this leads us to our next fad. This could be our podcast fat if we all get new pairs. Vertical jump she is I like the file metric. Also like crafts you mentioned it. But how great were the East Bay catalogs when we're younger I used to go through those hours all the different track soon. curlers. Daily we're here basketball she was an will not an ones, but it was like a competitor where you could like switch out the things in your shoes to make them dipper coast, which like team you're playing on something like that I know what you're talking about. You Slit Burqa bats, the aluminum bats. Dude it was it was it was merch porn. It was like he's flipped their like I'm GonNa have the new EXO and I'm going to buy this a two thousand glove and I'm going to buy sweet. I. Jerry is we could go on for days about aluminum bats. Hogle. Sports by the way, the sound sports is the. Think I, think I mean that's a whole other podcast. But if we want to go full nineties baseball, I'll talk about like I can tell you exactly who you were as little league or babe. Ruth. Baseball. Player. Based on the type of bat you use 'cause it just tells everything about you. Okay. So that's a great segue because we're just about time and we also have recipe locked Those those are the shoes. This is an audio format never seen those the fly. East Bay still in business. Digital now they're UK journal catalogs. You can the tangible catalogue you can buy these shoes a walmart. Now they're called jump ninety, nine play metro training shoes. They've made their way over to Walmart. So allow more convenient if you want them much. Walmart has an expensive there one, fifty, Walmart One, twenty, five on Amazon, and I think the company that us not still in existence. Racket. So Tower Baseball's that. Night to we haven't done A. Baseball and let's do recipe. So okay. So this is now the BBB BBB pod because we have a boat beset staffer you. Boba shit the first shortstop in the modern era to reach base safely six times hit a home run and still two basis in the same game. I, Hate Cherry picks stats like that and I would I would rail on how dumb cherry-pick stats are about that. But I don't WanNa, waste the time and instead I wanNA talk about Boba Shuts Dad Dante Bichette four times lead league in hits twice won the silver slugger award in one, thousand, nine, hundred, five, you leading hits, homers, RBI slugging percentage slash three, forty, forty, one, twenty, eight..

"Charlie falls up on last week you've been California. Yeah. For a few days. Give us the pad count from in and out. Dude. I am ashamed to say this zero. Now I've not been in and out once because we flew to different airports that we normally go into and like normally I have it set up where like we fly boom there's an outright there we hit up on the way in and we're good. But the way the week's been scheduled here with my family and I'm. So we're like we have different stuff going on I. Just haven't had a free moment to go out and get in and out Burger and today the way it was scheduled I was 'cause billy was like maybe the water tastes S. There's a burger king and in and out like next each other saint parking lot and then I was going to go through, grab a double double, grab a Walker, and do live taste tests, but I couldn't pull it off. So I must in out before I leave I must because I it's a cardinal sin if you're Californian to. Eating. Animal. Fries. You Animal Style and a Burger agreed but I go regular fries, dip them in spread the spread the spreading out as classic and they had the best found coke in. America I don't think it's A. Debate there I. From ellas Y Y thumbs down to in an hour. I. This is very rude especially for someone who loves southern California and the West Coast in general as much as I do. But I really don't enjoy in and out that much I will take their burgers. They're not bad but they're not the Martin's potato rolls so they're not great. I think fries are terrible and I know that they are made fresh never frozen but they always taste freeze your brain to me. So really David Chang on his podcast sort of explained why there's a huge variance with. I WanNa forget because he said because they don't because since they don't. Freeze their potatoes ever potatoes are harvested like once a year or maybe biannually, I can't remember you get really fresh in and out fries after they've gotten fresh potatoes that'd be great. But you know pay Tony Cool area can go without spotting for months. So you can have a three month old potato that's end made the fries in and out never completely different experience feeling that has happened to me every time So I don't mean to hate it I feel like it's such a California thing in love California super match, but I just I like shake my head. They're they're very invasive in the state of California the California Susan. Think I think In and out is as as a consumer of a lot of junk food that often has bad results on the back end and so in and out is one of the few who placed second I don't have that experience, and so I find the whole you know the fresh ingredients and fresh fries everything else it's like okay by because it seems to agree with my. Intestinal system. So I grew up in DC IN DC is obviously it's five guys founded in Virginia and it's like they're a bunch of guys in DC and I went to college is like wanted to be like five guys over in and out I'd never had out then I went out there and I was like. This. Is better than five guys and I just enjoy it war and it's it's like half the price that sort of like the greatest version McDonald's it operates in a different space I. Know we're now just born within did not debate that you've probably heard that thousand, but it operates a different space because there's so much less optionality. It's like you're getting the the double double animal style and you're getting fries. Bobo two for just laying on the bad sticking naps and I'm like Hey I'm freshman high school in five foot three at seems like something I can do is just lay down on these bats they all pretty much have to do is show up to practice every day and I'll get a letter at the end of the year. So I did that and then I had. A grocery like my junior year and that really helps with my athleticism I ended up being kind of good at it and I walked on for your college. I don't want to give up on this whole BBB thing. Because I feel like this could go somewhere. So just right off the top, the nuggets lead the jazz one Oh in the playoffs. So we've got basketball out of the way. Now we can move on from that big brother we can get to later we have products review today we have a recipe to talk about today Charlie Kravis is great at doing impressions. We have all kinds of stuff going on today that may be. Or maybe we won't get to I don't even know where you guys want to start. Where do you guys WanNa? We have the lauper taste test, but allison's not here. Yet I don't think he was has a whopper so we may have to push the tastes to another week. Where do you guys want to start today? I'm GonNa Start with one thing that we talked about last week, which is the idea of Lebatardshow yelp. ooh And I want to thank the listeners because those people rated R. podcast. As the number, one rated podcasts the week. So you are the Lebatardshow. Yelp, you were the one giving us the five star rating. So thank you all. grads to you give yourself a little pat on the back right now. You did it. We love you. Thank you by the way how did that happen? It has to just be the day that we came out and they sent out an email and the rankings next day and it was just luck right I. Don't question how it happened I accept that it happened and then Irene the podcast. I think it was allison because we struggled mightily when we didn't have allison and all of a sudden she's here and we were number one. So Charlie. You have a product. You want view this week. Yes sure do This is an audio platform so you cannot see what I'm doing right now but I'm lifting my right leg up and I'm gonNA show you the pair of socks I'm wearing and they are cap compression socks we'll see. I guess in the last six months or so released a pair of eighties inspired compression socks. Let me tell you these socks not only. Do they look amazing but they feel amazing very simple design a base, a white usually two stripes I think you can. You can visualize sort of classic eighties. Look I'm talking about. And I used these socks for everything I play golf on the socks I work out in the sucks I just wear the socks around the house where socks for a night out I did their extremely versatile socks and I think if you go on this EP compression website right now. They they might be running a CEO only socks, but they're like the Lou crew length socks and my only complaint register is with CPA's like website and they're back ordering process because. I don't understand how warehouses work and everything and I've I've probably talked a about this. How do we feel like this segment's going? Well so I, think it's going pretty well, but I actually pivot to explain to you guys actually have a complaint about said socks first of all a little back story on this is I'm the follower Charlie. Charlie gets into these fads and then halfheartedly want to support him troll him or just join him. If it's a good fats, I saw these socks like he's socks are dope. I bought the socks. CPI compression socks they compress to well, they hurt my toes. They keep my toes too snug in too tight. Everybody does can't wear them. Much of these socks cost. Is Thirty Bucks Sound Right. For. One hair talks we'll their compression socks. They're like they're they're hot. No no who just had the exact same. Hold on Sunday socks that are sized to small they'll compress your feet. Oh No, no, no, no no. No I'm sorry I'm sorry. These socks are nineteen dollars there might be on sale. Not even nineteen for good pair compression socks. Socks. Say My toes are too delicate for the socks. Do you think this is up? Yes, she actually size beat. Do you have a circulation issue that maybe she get looked at by Dr? No but like the Nike socks, the stand socks, the indeed sites they feel great. It's funny because they do like eighty socks I immediately in reminiscing about like my dad mowing the lawn or something in similar socks in those socks seemed very. Loose start, they're just act so. Aesthetically I would not think that they were very tight compression socks. And so that is actually over. Like the last five to ten years where I guess I'd probably buy clothes for longer than five or ten years. I. Don't know why I teed up like that I've. Come across people that are making eighty style socks and you want to buy them. But they're like what you're saying he lays these super loose tube socks. I can't do anything with these right like where look cool. But it just throwing away and couple months because they're terrible. That's why I love these socks so much because their functional, but they're also stylish. So this this podcast surprising not brought to you by compression socks, but it probably should be sure hope we're not brought to you by Bomba today. Yeah that'd be that'd be real shame. I feel like fad pod didn't really take off this week. You'll we tried I don't know and I wanted to talk candles but allison hasn't shown up yet because she has this ridiculous thing on canal's that I don't WanNa get into because I buy these discount. Discount. What are you guys pay for candles? I don't. Know Bilal my girlfriend Kerry buys candles and makes the apartments and delightful, and so whatever she chooses as her choice for the the apartment I am down with my wife just bought a ton of candles. She bought a Campbell, the looks like an orange slinky it starts on one side and it goes down that like loops around like a roller coaster that POPs up on the other side it's like two candles at one. And I think that was a very expensive candle but I'm not really like a candle guy like I. don't I I like when candles are lit but I don't like I don't go out of my way by candle. So so billy, what what are. What's your like Ideal Price Range for a candle then well, no what happened was is that I thought I was giving them a hot tip and I thought I was being nice guy knows okay. Guys Bath and body works cancer are on sale. They're only eleven.

"One thousand to eighty six degrees of hopefuls acidic windfall to their living here if you live west what so ever perfect because is also here with me live it's been a couple of weeks ago he was here and told us of upper payment limits in the fact that cities like Pauls valley on twenty eight twenty nine license for twenty nine license to own a nursing home doesn't mean they really do they're just on paper it was just paper and then they got a pic earth pay back they were supposed to kick back with that but we blocked that deal in I don't know if they received any money you know in some way under the table or whatever that needs to be investigated and that's why we're calling on the governor to call for this investigation and that's why if you are hearing us now we want you to call your governor tomorrow at five two one two three four two area code four oh five five two one two three four two and demand that he look into nursing homes scandals now play call for the investigation but what what what are the victories you know what we've got to give a shout out to victories because you know folks were working on on this issue to hold these wrongdoers accountable we're still working to help people and and I've just got to say our OB ich I've been choked up about this and I hope I can get through this without choking up one of those victories was TJ we help TJ see her mother for the first time since March thirteenth and yesterday after all that time was the first time she was able to see or ninety four year old mother she'd been banned she had been banned from the nursing home and and she had one well not a she never was really got a good reason she had filed a complaint with the state stay came out in investigated and didn't substantiate anything so she called our state lawmaker and then say went back out and they investigated they substantiated those allegations and and that was those deficiencies were cited in given to them on March thirteenth so how coincidental is the she's banned from the nursing home on March thirteenth which he hasn't been able to see your mother since March thirteenth and her mother had thought that she had died because otherwise her daughter would have come to see her so her mother's been an anguished thinking your daughters died in our family won't tell her the truth about her daughter having died a guy can't think that is a James that is abuse that is abuse so tell me T. J. got to go in and hold her mother's hand after after after the police were called so the ministry to call the police on her yesterday and we had prepared we had documents for her that she could show the police which she did and the officer called a supervisor and walked back in and said she could see her mother so folks don't let these nursing homes push you around and if you have questions just give me a call we'll give you are number it near the end but here's what happened was metal like a state's called a family meeting to address the negative media they had been on channel four nine regarding Kinsey's mother earlier in the week and and I only expect maybe twenty or thirty people to show up and apparently they had ninety two hundred family members show up yesterday at this meeting called by the management yes my understanding when the manager started talking about others no abuse or neglect in this nursing home the crowd went off on them that they were yelling and screaming at these people because they were so angry about the the treatment the neglect in the pew center levels have been suffering in this nursing home so I am so proud of those families to stand up for their loved ones and voice within Susie Azam about what's going on in demand change and with that Kinsey who I think is is is absolutely incredible kids he got up in a now said they're going to form a family council for those that want to do that and so the majority the people want to be a part of a family counts which is really like a neighborhood watch group on steroids so I applaud TJ for what she's done to stand up to be able to see her mom give her mom that comfort I applaud Kinsey for what she's doing and all of these family members and all the rest of you for making these phone calls is shown up at the press conferences in the rallies we've got to keep this going so again tomorrow when Monday Wednesday or Friday we're gonna blitz state with the phone calls if I five two one twenty three forty two four six in the end we're gonna call it demand a call for public investigation you gave him a letter what did you tell him in your letter are we we took out of about a minute we we start off with veterans their spouses and other clones is served our state and nation are suffering and dying needlessly in nursing homes you think that be a shot across the bow we quoted Attorney General Mike Turner who had been interviewed on on the hot seat were used the term sanitized by sunlight they said the people this was due to inform people about the opioid epidemic here and around the country when this case should we expose the nursing crisis in Oklahoma in this you peel scandal and it is in dire need of sanitization by sunlight we also called out still it because he's publicly calling for a government accountability so where's his is actually govern accountability when talking to him for a year so folks if you want to get in touch with me one way you can do this and keep track of what's going on is go to Facebook dot com slash a perfect because all one word Facebook dot com slash a perfect because we offer reached for five three zero eight three five eight where Wes at west Bledsoe dot org but tomorrow morning.
