"There were some speaking of the Internet. What would we do without it? A lot of people during this pandemic rightfully so park day behind on the couch and throwing a Lotta donuts down a Lada. Yoohoo maybe going through an entire box of pop tarts for breakfast. It's understandable people get down. They get a little depressed. What do they do they human nature? And you know. You can't play organized sports. She can't play basketball. You can't play tennis actually golfed on Saturday. We had to have individually our own carts and it was fun. It was hot day and I'd not a big Fan of watching golf on TV. In fact I've never done it in my life outside of I think one Ryder Cup for about an hour. Just not my cup of tea but it is fun to drop off the face of the earth for four and a half hours but you had to have your own car and in fact when they handed the key to the cards you know we all are hand because I only take the key for your car. Don't hand your key to another guy in the like while you're out there stay six feet apart and the the Marshall come round you guys are social distancing and it's not that they were just being narc is that they wanted to stay open and they knew that the POPO would be driving around having a look or at least somebody who like knocked out. Brendan Leipzig. Look at this picture on the Eighteenth Green. It's four guys high fiving. You don't want that. So the pro shop was closed. If you wanted to buy some golf shoes they're going to hand them through and then it was. I said there's no water on the course. Nothing so slowly but surely we're getting back there all right. It is our pleasure now to be joined by actor Barry Corbin and he's got some an evening with Barry Corbin said he likes to does it on his His facebook page but Very thanks for being on the show and obviously you must get this a lot but you know I always remember. I'll piss on a spark plug if I thought it would help when you were in war games. How much does that get mentioned to you? Is it a daily occurrence? Well it's Fairly often it was peppers an actually fairly can't not script we We were Going insane and the guy that the guy that you pushed away from.

"Tiger Woods feels like he's dreaming in fact he had this exact dream earlier this week imagining himself on the Eighteenth Green of Augusta National in the dream his name was atop the scoreboard as he putted out to win the masters now on an overcast Sunday afternoon in April of nineteen ninety seven. He's doing just that it's real. He's sure of it because even in his dreams he couldn't have imagined the way he'd be winning golf's most prestigious tournament. The twenty one year old is playing in his first masters tournament as a pro and he's leading by an astounding twelve strokes. Apparently he didn't dream big enough as tiger lines up a long downhill Birdie. Putt on the final hole the CBS commentary team Marvel at what they're witnessing in. A Jimmy Tiger Woods has to put to break the record which is held by. Jack Nicklaus and Ray Floyd and that's a record you know they say records are made to be broken. Well eighteen under if it ever is broken. I wanted to tell you who's going to break. It'll be tiger. Woods Tiger addresses the ball and thinks back to Wednesday nights putting lesson from POPs. She can hear earls voice in his head telling him to put to the picture meaning visualize the ball rolling across the green into the hole but his father's voice isn't alone others are creeping in. And they're getting louder they're talking about things like record books and legacies. Tiger thinks back to the paper. He kept in his childhood bedroom with Olive Jack Nicklaus's career by Age Tiger. We'll have his first masters champion. Green Jacket at twenty one two years before Jack won his first feeling a surge of confidence tiger strikes his putt perhaps a bit too firmly slowdown all slow down. His ball passes the whole and comes to a stop about four feet past. It and a round of applause breaks out. It doesn't matter that he missed it. He's got a dozen strokes to spare the noise and the gallery begins to swell as tiger walks to his ball with the short. Putt ahead a mere formality. Tiger hardly notices ever the perfectionist. He scowls and shakes his head. He doesn't care that he's about to tap in to finish eighteen under it could have been nineteen but after a brief moment of tiger shakes it off and lines up the short. Putt for the win win. Agent Tiger goes through the motions of hugging his caddy shaking hands with his playing partner. But there's only one person on his mind as he walks off the eighteenth green at Augusta he makes a beeline for the edge of the TV. Tower where POPs is waiting for him. Mom and dad his father with that bypass operation six weeks ago unable to be out on the course today but he was there vicariously step for step with his son. Earl wraps tiger and a bear hug. And the two. Share an emotional twenty-second embrace. We made it earl says I love you son and I'm proud of you. Tigers squeezes his eyelids tight trying to hold back tears. Earl has never spoken to him this way before. The gruff military man has always pushed his son to his psychological limits to develop mental toughness and tiger so raw emotion is rare hearing those words. I'm so proud of you means just as much tiger as the green jacket. He's about to slip on as a masters champion wrapped in his dad's arms tiger savors the moment like to remember every detail of it forever. It's somehow even better than the dream version. He imagined days earlier tiger woods in a moment like no one has ever seen at the master's shattering record after record after record. The green jacket will be on his shoulders in just a moment but also as they embrace joy is replaced by a sense of fear and tiger after earl disregarded his doctor's advice to skip traveling to the Masters Tigers reminded of earls serious heart condition and failing health and with those worries now in his mind. Tiger thinks this is only the beginning. How much of my career will my dad actually get to see.

"Earl chuckles off camera. Once again tickled by his sons may be unintentional ability to inject humor into situations that might feel intimidating for most other children but it also serves as a reminder tiger is taking note of everything that Url says or does it's one thousand nine hundred eighty seven six years later on a golf course in southern California of course tiger is no longer a child. He's shown around his classmates and reluctant to take part in any playground games. That might hurt him. He figures he might be risking injury or even his dad's wrath but at eleven years old. His golf game is maturing quickly in many ways. Today is pretty similar to any other day in the lives of Tiger and earl. The two are finishing up around at the navy golf course in their hometown of Cyprus. When Tiger was born earl had only taken up golf about three years earlier. Young Tiger watched his father apply a dog militaristic determination to practice as he grew up. Earl now shoots even par pretty often and is one of the best players at the club as the pair walk up to the Eighteenth Green. They're cutting very different. Figures Tiger normally loves his. Dad's relaxed lighthearted demeanor on the. But right now it's driving him. Nuts tiger is a ball of nervous excited energy and he has a secret an open one but one that seemingly hasn't registered with earl quite tiger won't be saying a single word to him about it until the round is officially over earls ball is about five feet outside of Tigers and twenty from the whole so his birdie attempt comes i. It's a good putt. But the break leaves it just outside the cup earl taps in for par and tigers thoughts begin to race. Even more right to left uphill need to give it some pace. Don't hit it through the break. Tiger approaches the ball feeling butterflies in his stomach as he takes a few final practice strokes. He puts his putter behind. The ball. Takes One last. Look at the whole then. Exhales tigers pulse quickens as the ball leaves putter. He's hit it on the right line and the pace seems to be good but will it break enough to catch the outside edge of the Cup as the ball drops in tiger flexes. His right arm and punches the air and excitement he looks over to earl. Who's wearing a quizzical impression? He doesn't know yet. Does Tiger Things Tiger watches as his dad pulled the scorecard out of his back pocket and starts to add up their scores. He pencils in a seventy two for himself before moving to his sons line. Tiger listens to earl sixteen seventeen eighteen before suddenly. His Dad's eyes get wide. Earl finally knows tiger secret at eleven years. Old Tiger has just shot seventy one and beaten his POPs for the very first time earl. Lets out a long laugh and gives tiger a huge bear hug. Well done son tonight or celebrate with his dad's arm draped over him as they walked back to the clubhouse together Tiger thinks about the garage full of trophies. His mother organized for him at home. He's One more southern California junior tournaments than he can even count but none of them were as sweet as today's win in this moment. Tigers relationship with earl is simple sweet and carefree a son eager to surpass the father who taught him the game they bond over and a father brimming with pride as his son does it but as tiger grows older and the stakes move higher and higher so will the complexity of their relationship..

They've made one from both sides gotta be. Maybe one hundred fifty ten below by thinks it's insane Frankie. My question is Are you still thinking about putting right hand. Yes well putting putting putting with a right handed potter with a Lefty Grip Cross grip all right so you're going with the speed but yes. We're going to put right handed. I'm going to try it. "I got my book the last time that any of our next guest, it was on TV a week ago. And we were watching Brooks kept good come off the eighteenth green at Bethpage after winning the PGA championship claiming his fourth major championship, and one of the folks, besides his immediate family that he greeted, and HUD was his former coach. Warren, Bottke Warren on the line with us right now from Florida. Hey, warren. How you doing? Hey, good morning, Jay. Good morning. How you guys doing? Okay. Great. We got blue skies and sunshine in Colorado Springs. A great holiday weekend as good as we're doing probably not as good as you and Brooks kept doing right. Yeah. J Jerry was an epic day on Sunday. But, you know, like you saw it on all in Ravel, there was a little nerve wracking, when we got to fourteenth green, and everybody was chanting DJ DJ. And that was really a pivotal point in, in that round where he all of a sudden snap out of it and then play great from their end did Brooks. No, you were there. Or did you surprise him? I shown I pry them. I was there Friday. All week went excuse me Tuesday, to Friday, and I say goodbye to give gave them a hug on Friday night. And I said, hey, let's do like we did the last time you're on your own and you'll you'll be here by yourself. Go to walk, and we'll talk to you soon and one home I taught eight one hour lessons on Saturday on a plane Sunday morning, we, you know, seven shot lead, I felt pretty confident that I wanted to be there to surprise them. Did you get a little nervous when it was a one-stroke lead? Their over DJ. I don't wanna say getting nervous. It was a little anxious. You know, it was like I knew he could get the job done. He's very stoic. He's very good about that kind of stuff. And I just knew it was going to be a good situation. But, you know, it just kind of you know, surprised everybody actually with those two being really good friends. They're feeling is well, if I don't win the other guy does, who was kind of sum it up. Yeah. Kind of I mean, that's an internal relationship that they have a friendship, they'll always needling cutter doing different things like so and, you know, I'm sure there was a little bit of that. Yes. I'd eat each each one of them, you know, so this, this collaboration between you and Brooks kept good. Let's, let's go back to the beginning, when did it all start? And how, how did it come about? Well, I knew his dad very well. That was a client of mine. So I knew his dad before, Brooks was even born and his dad's the three handicapper. He's only worked with me and de worked with Brooks up to about ten years old and said, hey, look, he's all yours, I'm gonna re English the teaching duties become a dad and your his coach. Together from ten to almost eighteen years old, before he went to Florida state. What did you notice right away? There was something to this kid with his ten year old kid or did it take a while for, for the for the talent to come out? Yeah, it was a little bit. I mean he was very, very interested. He's very passionate. He was that kid that would come off the, you know, the driving range at dark. So you knew that was no problem. You didn't have to still the enthusiasm for the hall that again but the thing was, you know, it wasn't until he was about fourteen and a half fifteen when he played his first aid JJ event, the American junior college association. It was a major in his eyes and he shot four under par dothan Alabama and one that's got tournament. And that kind of gave me a little uptick, to say, hey, this guy might have something on your goes out, and wins the Florida state junior high school golf championship as an individual and from there, the rest is history. So when he got into college, how did things fair for in there as far as progressively into finally getting into the pros. Well, the ironic thing, excuse me in, in college end of it was the fact that you really, we didn't have a lot of colleges in Florida state one after finally got them in believe it was an all conference player and as is Bob more year and then was an all American senior year. And that's only took off to go to Europe, the plane to challenge to work Warren bodies, our guests, he worked with Rick's check from for seven years from the time to KEPCO with ten up until he was about seventeen or eighteen years old. What weren't, I don't know if you've ever been asked this question, but people probably think, well, Brooks kept going with as good as he is would have succeeded no matter who was coaching in. What did you bring to him? What did you bring to the table that maybe created the Brooks kept good golfer that we, we see today? Well, a couple of things number one, we built the. Engine to his wing and all and made it fundamentally sound fundamentals face to where it was a repetitive. Swing with a lot of power and he's got a team of three instructors worked with now. Jeff Pierce is putting coach and bought harm in his swing coach. And then he has peed talent at worked with your short game. So what they do now they pretty much maintained the engine, I call them the mechanics that kind of eats everything going on there. Now is this kind of stuff you would have taught anybody? Or did you tailor your instruction to, to his strengths or and or weaknesses? Well it was the basic fundamentals. The first acronym was PGA, pasta, gripping alignment, and seventy percent of the swing stems from that. Then internally we put the pillars of of different fundamentals of swing in this game. And then after that, once I started to see his power, he started the maturity grew into himself, then we were able to do some power source things where his body releases the club not his hands. He played other sports. He's a pretty good athlete. Isn't he? Yeah, he was. You know, he's a typical kid he played three or four different or it's going up as, as a junior as a youngster, and then he was in a car accident when he was seventy eight years old brokers collarbone. And he just didn't wanna do any context or any always still play golf. But now then he took it as a one sport thing, you know. Now, you mentioned the fact that he went over to Europe. What was it like for him over there? And you didn't accompany him, right? No, I didn't company him. He would check in with me occasionally, you know, during those times in what was one instance where in the second year of it he was, you know, struggling he was down. You know, when you calling from India to China, and Japan back to Africa. You know, then Italy, I mean, your, your body's wearing out, you don't have any family support your eating all different cultural meals. And, you know, I think it just kind of ran its course, and I had told them, I said, hey books, keep keep doing what you're doing. You're moving the needle you growing. And I said, you remember when you were thirteen years old, you told me you're going to win the masters, so let's get it done. Yeah. Well, that's one thing he still he still has to accomplish Brooks. Kept going, of course, winning four major championships back to back, US Open's back toback PTA championships. That's quite a resume. He's built already. And he's still a young young guy. What is he like late twenties, twenty ninety turned twenty nine eight third? So you know, you're looking at eleven years till four years old. And he made a comment in the press conference on Sunday that, you know, he he's ten majors in them. And it wasn't a very cocky statement, it was very confident. Yeah. I think I think there's potential for even more than ten. When you talk about the masters it hadn't been for Tiger Woods. He might have won at this year. True. Well, it wasn't so much just for tiger. Woods wasn't one swing. You know. And if you have a a, you know, an iron an iron at one sideways a little bit Augusta win. He would have had five majors eight majors. Getting twenty three months, which is even more incredible. We're in there are there are mechanical type golfers and there are feel type golfers is Brooks. One more. So one than the other or is he kind of a halberd of both? Dunno. He's totally one hundred percent he'll appeal teacher. That's why we're able to collaborate, so. Well, he's not doesn't like a lot of tech again technical, logical things he doesn't like, you know, all sorts of gadgets and things like that he likes to feel it. We'll explain it to them, very mechanical, but then he gives them a drill or something like that, that he can resonate in this way. And then he's ready to go. He mentioned to me bought a track made about three years ago, and he's only had it out once. So he's not a numbers guy. He doesn't really you know, you know, really worry about those kind of things he feels what he's trying to do from the swing net was built and his few swing thoughts as possible. Bigs xactly. No question about it. Yeah. Where can he get better work? Can he improve? Well, you know, the biggest thing now is getting better at off the golf course. I think he's got that on the goal course it's all the distractions from all the notoriety and Brooks is the same yesterday today. He'll be the same Tamar. He's not one of those guys that gets caught up in all the all the hubbub and all the flash. And, you know, he had an opportunity to go on Jimmy Kimmel and half at least at New York City. And he's like now. Thanks guys. That's not my my mom. I appreciate it. But I'm not into that. And that was it. Yeah. How about you? You keep them be busier now than ever with your connection to Brooks KEPCO doing radio shows and things like. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't see all that kind of common. I mean did six TV interviews on Sunday in about twelve radio shows this week and it's just been completely out of the out of the right field that kind of came out because everybody's still inquisitive of what makes this guy kick and the only way to buy out the out the watchmaker who built it, you know? And it kind of how it's how it's been you know, what's the secret, I don't have any pixie dust in my pocket and sprinkle it, it's just a lot of fun of metals and a lot of discipline. So have you found time to go out and give private golf lessons then? I'm still doing it. Believe me it. It's great. And I have a young stable of a lot of young junior. Some worn a half years old right up through eighteen about ten kids division, one all scholarships that are playing trying to follow his same footsteps. I laid out a roadmap to where champion is now built, and now everybody wants to get on the conveyor belt and repeat it yeah, maybe the next books kept in that group. Well could be I got a young boy, named Ryan, tan nanna. I took into the drive chip and putting Augusta. He's in the seven and nine year old group and we finished second. And that was the mantra, there is this, the next new of becoming Brooke captive from, from the coach, and he has a lot of discipline teaching for three years since he's been five years old. He lives in Paris, France spending summers with me, and it's kinda unique deal. All right. This has been this has been a lot of fun. Has this amazing? We appreciate you doing this. You're going to Pebble Beach, obviously. We'll see you at the US open. Yeah I'm gonna be there for a little bit..

Well, what do you say? How about Scott in Boyd's, your WMA, Scott? Hey. Weeks ago. Sunday afternoon. Masters. I started earlier because of the rain delay watch about three or four o'clock about three hours into it. Tiger gets onto the eighteenth green does the first part second cut away to the weather. No, they did a tornado warning for Frederick county. They're on there for so long. Came back. They're putting the green jacket off when a nightmare. I did not know that I would have talked about it the next day my God Scott, that's terrible. You want because it was a replay but still. Three and a half hours that, that is a great point. That is a great point. All right, Scott. Thank you for that. How about Andy and Stafford any I feel like we've outgrown this whole thing where we have to stop everything and give a weather report. "Twinkle in your eye for the thirty year old living single in the city comes back. What do you guys doing later tonight? These snoring and probably wedding myself because I'm fifty two and I can't control myself. What else? Would you rather have to four foot putt to win the masters or have to make a free throw to win the NCWA championship? I'll masters all day long. I could win the masters because of what you're winning or because of the the pressure Gill that involves the free throw is always the same. Always you have to read a pot. That's the tougher thing. You've taken the same free throw for your entire life. Yes. But the prize I'm more interested in the prize of being the masters champion than I am the two different more pressure to on the free throw because you're it's a team. And you're only letting yourself down if you miss the putt. Hit some big free throws in this tournament. Did you? Yeah. But yeah, I'm with you to be standing there on the eighteenth. Green of Augusta even though I don't love golf. Got some point you got to go. I feel like if you're talking and end of basketball, I get my jet. I'll just send you outside. We'll fly right into some funny money to spend it that's up to you. You can hang out with what's his name. John Daly, even stay in his his mobile home. I think if we're talking about the end of a basketball game versus golf you wanna hit that game winning three at the buzzer. NCW? Let's go NCWA. Let's say you're game seven of the NBA final. You've got a free third a win. Masters. Putt apples dapple. Title. It's still an individual sport versus a team sport. You're still letting down your entire team as opposed to just letting.

"Would you be super nervous putting out on that eighteenth green compared to what it would be like PGA tour event? Yeah. I don't know. You know, it was it was just feel so different. But nine million to me is extreme compared to them. I think have you gotten to appoint where you're not thinking about money during tournament though. I still think about it help it. Yeah. I think when. I think when you've got when you've got a ten footer, and you know, like, it's for probably one hundred grand or something that you can't help. But think about it. But I don't think it affects too much. How I'd go out. And I've got enough experience. I feel very confident to handle that. But it definitely crosses your mind. You know when you're in the key in contention on Sunday. I don't think it does ever Thursday through Saturday, but Sunday's a different animal when you're next deserves shot that not to bring up something negative is shot that sticks out to you. That's like all that shot cost me, blah, blah, blah, this amount of money one that sticks out to you. Yeah. There's probably a few definitely my actually as when I first heard pro and I'm playing Tigers tournament Quicken Loans, and I was in contention on Sunday. And I was in third place on fifteen on Sunday. Just turn press on just making my first checks into me. I'm still a college kid, you know, just a couple of months ago. I was making sure to. Goes on Mondays to save a dollar. And I'm over on fifteen and third place looking at the scoreboard, and I've got an eight iron into this par five and two after a huge drive. I can make eagle on really make a push birdie one in the last few and have a chance to get in a playoff win or something and I kind of chunk hook. It doesn't carry the water make a six, and I think part of the last three holes, and I just think back at that. And I'm like man, if I just hit the green to putt their finished fifth instead of twelve th which would have been, you know, two hundred grand or something I still made six figures that we can for. It was amazing. I wasn't too upset about it. But I was like damn that was a two hundred thousand dollar eight iron. So that one always sticks out because it was early on. And then I obviously didn't get to collect my two hundred and fifty I would've made at the British Open as an amateur. So that thought about what was that week? Like rethinking about that the whole time. No, I wasn't thinking about that. I knew obviously I wasn't gonna make any money from that tournament. But I felt like I improved my stock, and I probably made some money indirectly from playing while that but. That was a mazing looking at the leaderboard on back nine on Sunday right up there at Saint Andrews was a few of you guys were up there. Paul done, right. Yeah. Jordan, Jordan neither. What was that? We of course, like, it was really I actually. So I actually got to play teen whole practice Rome with filled bones on Monday. I was in the Callaway truck, I just signed Calloway. And I'm in there with chip the Callaway I'm in a truck and Phil comes in having a meeting with chip, you know, it's really exciting for me. I just turn just about the term pro I'm getting to meet the CEO and be in the two truck at a major. So it was incredible. And Phil walks in and says, hey, and then he goes back out to the range. And chip says, hey, why don't you go ask fill to play with these? If she if you can go get out on the old course with them. And I end up going the range she's involved. I say, Phil. What do you think? Is there? You know? Are you gonna play today would what he's saying about me? Join you. I'd love to the chance, and he said you ever gonna go thirty minutes. You wanna come? And I was like, yeah. I'll see very well. See on the T nervous to talk to that..
