Samsung offers a big TV update with TikTok app, MicroLEDs and more

"Samsung held its event today to unveil some more. Tv news. What were some of the big headlines so as you mentioned they pretty much told us all the important stuff or the important stuff already knew their new neo q. Tv's some micro led tv's but they saved a little bit for now Because these teachers are just sitting stores. That's kind of the idea. Usually a big event where they talk about pricing availability. These things you can actually buy them now. So that's happening. These are on preorder for the most part so the biggest thing that came out was a tiktok app. Actually the phone centric app is making. Its way to samsung televisions. It's actually already available in the uk but this is the limit late tiktok as you may imagine so. We're getting that app soon. Samsung says real timeframe there. So that allow you to watch those videos on your samsung tv. And then of course that really plays well into their their weird cerro. tv roj. it's this thing that rotates. Yeah i wanted to ask you about the ceremony. How that plays into this because it was. I think it was introduced not this year last year. Right and it rotates similar to how a phone would rotate from portrait to landscape mode. And back. how how's it going to work. There's there's also an update to this. Tv as well right so what. What's the latest. So so the cerro recap it's been out for about a year the us It's a forty three inch. Tv seventeen hundred bucks really expensive from forty three inch tv. But what you get for your you know. Significant cash outlay is the ability for the screen to flip back and forth between Landscape which is your typical television. You know orasanin view the sixty nine screen to flip up into portrait mode. The idea there is that you can mirror your screen on your phone. Blow it up really big and it looks just like a phone. A big forty three inch phone and now tiktok. It allows you to play those vertical portrait mode videos without any black bars bars on either side. So it's really perfect for that or a lot of people record their their phone of videos in portrait mode to those look fine images to on that. Tv screen so it is kind of market as the tv for like the mobile Millennial generation and just to be clear the tiktok app. It's not it's just consuming tiktok feet right. There isn't like a camera built in tv. Alleged shoop tiktok videos right then and there. No so this is. This is just a browse tiktok videos. In fact it is really designers browsing. You don't even need a tiktok account to use the app you can just like fire it up and start watching Tiktok videos to arts intent data like they serve because talks one of the keys keys. The tiktok success has been the algorithm Pushes relevant videos to you in a nonstop stream. Is that if you're not logging or you just getting random popular tiktok themes or videos. You're getting stuff that's the most popular trending But then you can also say stuff. You're interested in when you first get on the tiktok app installed. They'll ask if you are interested in. You can go to those different categories you know for example sports entertainment pop culture whatever and you can have shown up as well so again. It's designed to be as as uninterested as possible. You just kind of have these. These videos served up to you and We'll see what it looks like when they when they watch it later this year all right well another announcement is this new size. Option for a micro led tv. Let me guess there. They're still crazy expensive right well. They haven't officially announced pricing. I asked him a on a call. You guys what's the price of leasing. They still are being cagey about that. But just what you know these. Tv's micro led. Is a brand new. tv technology. Samsung is pushing. It's really really really expensive. Supposed to have spectacular picture quality. If not as good better than ole ed. But you know it's a gigantic sizes so right now the first one hit the market is going to be the hundred and ten inch and selling in korea for about hundred fifty six thousand dollars so just set the stage for what kind of television wire this is aimed at now. The news today is that they're also going to be stepping down the size down to seventy six inch. There's a ninety nine eight inch size so these are really really really large. Tv's really really expensive. Bottom samsung can do

Checkride Turbulence And 3 Books

"What's up. Walling a bobby how are you. I'm great nother week. 'nother show we Shows grown a lot and we want to think about the listen to the show. We are back to another check right episode. This is something. We put together that we're branding or calling. Check ride turbulence taking the bumps check rides and this week. We want to talk about really something basic to help you. Prepare for the check ride That that wally sees too few people doing and that. I enforced here about some students that come to us from other schools. Don't use these books on a regular basis and as we become commercial pilot's probably think of more but a student pilots. You should have and be aware of three big things as it relates to flying. There's obviously more but these are three things for the check. Ride the p. h. The acs and the foreign name. And if you were to bring those three books to your check ride and actually know how to use them know. What's in them. I think you'd be surprised how easy that check ride. They would go would you. Would you agree. Well absolutely i. i remember my first I grew up in an aviation family. I flew with my father quite a bit as a as a very young Young little boy. But i took my. I what i call my first real flying lesson on august. Thirty first nineteen eighty-one so almost forty years ago and it was in a tomahawk piper tomahawk. Who was two five four nine alpha and member walking The the i fly. We flew for about an hour and we walk back into the flight. School the f. b. l. And i remember my instructor taking me right up to the counter and there's a little display case there and he said you need to get that book right there and you need to learn it now. I have already done private pilot. Ground school so i already had a copy of the f. a. r. a. m. and You know. I had a jepson Private pilot book and so i was Well on my way. But i remember him saying okay. You need to buy that book and you need to know everything in it. And so that night i remember going home and opening up the po h. And starting to remember it To memorize it and learn it and you know. I remember learning the menu. The propeller manufacturer was a seventy eight inch propeller fixed pitch. And i'm i'm thinking to myself. Well okay he said. I needed to learn it so you know what that meant on that day did you. Did you instantly know what all that Probably not probably not. But i did. I learned it And nowadays I i went back. And i think of my career my aviation career and how many check rides. I've taken over my career. And i i don't know how many it is but it's a lot and i don't think i have ever taken a check ride in an airplane that i did not have a personal copy of the po h whether it be in print or digitally I went to my bookshelf. The other day and i found that tomahawk manual. I still have it. it's again. It's over forty years old. I have a a beechcraft baron manual. I have a beechcraft duchess. I've bonanza manual. I have one for a a warrior and they're old but they're they're still good information and a mess still valid and of course with the airlines You know the issue you manuals and back in the day used to be paper manuals but now it's all digitally transmitted the ipad so that makes it very nice but again i have never taken a check ride in an airplane that i did not own the manual to And you know so. What are you studying the manolo. The peo- h we're talking about here So what do you study well you know obviously limitations It's more knowing where it's more knowing how to use the manual then knowing what's in it And and i tell people man you know if you're just gonna spend ten minutes getting an overview of the manual. Maybe the table of contents for each chapter might be a thing just so you know what's in there. Yeah and we'll we'll show some of my lack of pilots. When i was a student you know. And and how i got smarter as i got more proficient in probably happens everybody but i fly. Our one eighty two a lot now flat a lot with my family. I check the fuel Obviously a lot i have. A dipstick tells me how much fuels in that and recently I think i asked a rampart or somebody to check that for me before i went then i checked it again before i went in the numbers aren't the same that i had asked for and i thought that was a little bit odd But they they they want and did that with the dipstick and they they had the wrong dipstick of course but i asked him. Do you know in the ph where to look at. How many gallons are in the tank because they had a dipstick said a different number of gallons in that particular tank and this is a student pilot who wants to learn and i wanted to teach them and also teach my staff as well as saint. Thomas said where do we look. Let's go pull out the peo- h. And look at it and it was funny. They jumped towards the back and performance in the fuel system. And all these other places but as you talk about limitations there's a pretty good summary right up in the fourth or fifth page that drives about what each tank has in it and that's a quick way to verify and to your point about knowing how to use the book i don't necessarily need to know every plane and every tank size and everything at an airport but if i'm going to go fly that plane i better know where to find out how much fuel it can hold.

Why a Charleston woman decided to demolish her home

"Years. Elizabeth boy no lived in south carolina. You're the ashley river and charleston harbor but when two major storms brought flood waters close to her door. She realized her home is at risk. And it would get worse with sea level rise. It became so real an even more frightening realizing that the next flood that came through could be the end of me so boy no listed the house for sale but before it sold. Her fears came true hurricane irma in eight inches of water filter home. The house became virtually impossible to sell even after multiple price drops. So boy no decided to sell the property as a vacant lot. She requested a permit to tear down the house and applied for fema grant to help cover the cost. It was an unusual request that required extensive documentation city staff even gave boy no nickname. They call me the trailblazer because they said they learn something new every day from my situation the process took years but eventually at work boy no had the house torn down and sold the lot. The new owners built an elevated house. Boy no was charleston's trailblazer. But as sees rise and extreme weather intensifies other coastal homeowners will be forced to make similar tough

How to Care for a String of Pearls Plant

"Says a girl. I work with was throwing out a dying string of pearls plant rescued. It took it home. I cut the dead parts out and started watering it. And it started to come back to life but it's an eight inch pot which now seems way too big for the plant. Should i put it in a smaller pot or just wait for it to fill in. Well no if. I were talking directly with dana. I'd ask her how long or is this. The rim remnants of the original plant. That now looks skimpy in the pop. they can stand being a little bit of rebound now. I don't mean mashed up where those soil in the but but at the same time as a succulent there Capable of doing what she has dealt with Bless her tell her to blessed to levy that threw it out. Because that's a plant that can go on and on and on and what she did was exactly right to cut the debt out And encourage new growth even to the point depending on. How far up do you can bring visit is a penniless plant. You can cut it back up a little bit and cause it to start over again and this is almost an ideal time to do it. Our days are getting longer in terms of outside light coming in. We can always leave lights on more as a succulent. The plant does need water. No question about it and if little pearls don't don't expand. Then you know you're not giving it enough water if they expand nicely than. Don't push me on that. I would guess that in this age pot. She would probably not have to water more than every other week. Now as in watering any potted plant water thoroughly let it run through drain out into a pot of base stand. Whatever it may be men just let it start to dry again because as a succulent you can flat out. Kill them with too much kindness in terms of water Light wise. It's a very interesting plant. It can handle indoors wearing nicely. You only need to four hours of direct sun or let you say nearly direct sun in a given day thrives in house temperature Once the the we've gotten a little past this point maybe maybe a month from now she can and maybe should This plant now. I i always grab what i call the african violet low analysis. I they tell you to use x. Amount per i use half of x. And i will start fertilizing that plant it somewhere in the period of Oh late march early april. Get it going because it takes at least two weeks for fertilizer to catch up with the needs of the plant so even even could be done now if she has a place where she can keep it. Pretty good light Then the next step because it is as Any other plant would be being indoors as being a hanging planet. It can be dutiful all the way around three sixty degrees in unless she does not turn it. Maybe a quarter a third of a turn a week to the well to the window. Nearest in terms of full sun Fertilize every couple of weeks lightly. Clear on into early fall and then clinton and just enjoy the rest of the winter. So tell her. she's a winner. What the plants value is but she came out a winner And and i kinda sorry for the lead gave it up but everybody gets rid of a diet plant from time to time. And i'm glad that dana grabbed this

Huawei unveils flagship foldable smartphone for China market

"Have another foldable phone. This one from wall way. Sarah tells all about it all right away. The made x. two which now holds the screen inside like the samsung galaxy. Fold rather than wrapping around the outside when you close it while we added a second six point. Four or five inch led ninety. Heard screen to the made to for you to use. It is folded. The inside foldable screen is eight inches. Twenty four by twenty display and the company says the mate x has less of an internal gap so it folds flatter than the galaxy full. So they're obviously making comparisons there. The screen folds into a waterdrop shape at the hinge when closed to prevent chrissy and and also breaking the made two launches but the android ten based. Em ui eleven. No google services but while we says it will be. One of the first device is upgraded to harmony os. That's always us in april. The made extra comes to china on february twenty fifth for seventy thousand nine hundred ninety nine one which is about two thousand seven hundred eighty five. Us dollars the announcement was conducted in mandarin nod. In english as is as it was in previous announcements and facts while we may run out of parts in q to even one if us trade restrictions do remain in place. Nick asia reported last week. That always told suppliers smartphone component orders would-be sixty percent lower than last year. Yes on the one hand we we see wah wah moving over to samsung's form factor On the other hand they are touting unimproved hinge that they say well. We've moved there because we've made it better but outside this is obviously targeted only domestically in china and We it's a question of even how many they could make to sell in china. Trevor have you been paying attention to this. Yeah i mean. I think if you're running out of chips the navy a good strategy would be to put out a phone. That's this expensive. You know you're not gonna sell now. Granted they they've probably been working on this for years but like that's going to help like how many people are going to spend twenty eight hundred dollars on a folding fund but it puts wall in a position where they're innovating on this new form factor. And personally. I think that the the full actually works really well. Because you don't have that sort of lopsided gap that you do in other foldables while way is playing out the clock here. They're they're hoping they can find a way out of this and they just wanna keep making models. They sold off on her but they do not want to sell off while way itself which would be the only other way out of this but if the. Us doesn't budge. Which doesn't look like it's going to. I'm not sure how long they can go. Obviously not longer than q two if things stay exactly the way they are now. Well the the foldable itself looks pretty nice guy. I didn't watch the entire announcement again in mandarin but the subtitles. I can follow along pretty well but it does look at least you know when someone standing on stage telling you about specs. It looks to be very nice When it's you know when it's when it's being used in tablet form You got a nice little eight inch screen when you've when it's when it's folded but you can still use it as a phone kind of block easy but i think for anyone who's like yeah but i have multiple devices and one that makes sense. It does seem pretty sturdy. One thing i did like about it was that they said that it was waited on one side and it reminded me a lot of the e-readers in adel put more weight on. What side because it's a more natural way to hold the device when you're holding it open so i think that's something that hopefully other foldables will adopt. Because they're sort even because they're trying to distribute the parts evenly across the

Saving Sea Level Records: What Historical Records Tell Us About The Rising Ocean

"So lauren you sent me a picture of one of these century old title logbooks and it's so cool. It's really detailed. You can see where it says one. Am someone's written thirteen feet one fifteen. Am fourteen feet one inch in this. Really lovely old penmanship tracking tied. Did people really do this. Twenty four hours a day every day of the year they did. They had technology. That actually made it easier though In the late eighteen hundreds they developed an automatic system which had this float that rested on the surface of the water and then fed information to kind of a pen that recorded the movement so then people just had to read off the values and put them into the ledgers and this was done in other places to lake near hillary island. The port of liverpool also has a really long running title record. That makes sense because this was the era of ships rights. Watercraft was the way that people and things got around. Yeah exactly you had a lot of ships going in and out of port and so they were shipping companies. That had to keep track of the tide so it can be done safely two day. Some of those old records are archived at the permanent service for mean sea level which is an organization in the uk that gathers ocean data worldwide Andy matthews a data scientists. There told me the data are pretty reliable. You know most of the time. Those woman over on point is a little hand square school saying they. They sweet because the Tyja for was sick. You get little insights now with him. Everybody needs a sick day right. Of course andy says they're trying to organize a bigger effort to find these records. Because you know since kind of obscure they're hard to find yet but it can be anywhere these kind of things now in libraries from people that we all kaisei done coin. Doug well they are. Yeah this is quite the quest and an even bigger issue. I imagine is that when they find them. The data is still stuck on those pages. Yeah his colleagues scanned about sixteen thousand pages. But the numbers are on the page and they haven't been digitized so they're really not usable by scientists. They're trying to use computers to do it through character recognition. But i mean you saw that writing right. It's kind of like the script and the formats can be really hard to decipher so india's hoping that the public will help he recently put the images on zoom verse. A website and so volunteers can kind of in and and read the numbers. Type them up. I love this approach. I mean we're all bored at home looking for something to do this pandemic so why. Not some historical data as tree right. Yeah i mean data entry for a greater good seriously but to get into the nitty gritty of it. Why exactly is an important to look at data from the eighteen. Hundreds to understand sea level rise today an into the future right. What does that matter. Yeah right. I mean it has to do with how complex sea-level rise is because it's been caused by a number of different things. I mean i. You got glacier's melting temperatures causes them to shrink and that water runs off into the ocean and the same thing is happening in greenland and antarctica. Where there are these massive ice sheets on the land and there's so much is melting in gigi tons tapping increasingly fast. And i know that oceans are also rising because the water itself is warming up and hotter things expand so the water slick taking up more space. Yep you got it and actually. This is kind of cool. Sea level rise did slow down in the nineteen sixties and seventies because that was the era of dam building around the world. When you know when these big reservoirs were being constructed. They held back so much water. It was actually measurable. Ooh that is so strange and it really shows how we humans do impact the oceans. That's like a tangible detail of how quickly we can do that. It's a huge scale. But it's not really a factor anymore because you know dams aren't really being built at the same rate these days got it. Yeah anyway since one thousand nine hundred there's been about eight inches of sea level rise and by the end of this century. We couldn't be looking at three to six feet of sea level rise or even higher depending on how much carbon humans emits but. that's globally. The water is rising at a different pace depending on where you are. Yeah how exactly does that work. Because wouldn't the phil evenly kind of like when you fill a bathtub. And here's where it gets a little weird. The earth is slowly changing slowly getting a different shape lake. You know when you've been sitting on the couch while and you kind of get up and the cushion rebounds like morphs back into its old shape. Yeah not all couches but sure theoretically Well okay that same thing happens to the earth's crust During the last ice age Kind of started waning. Eleven thousand years ago. There was a lot of ice on canada and greenland super heavy and was pushing down the earth's crust since that melted the crust has been slowly rebounding. And that's actually not good for the east coast especially around the mid atlantic region. Because you know it's on the same tectonic plates as canada and greenland and when one side goes up. The other side goes down So what you're saying is where i live on. The east coast is on the lower end of the see-saw basically your thinking about that slowly. I mean the east coast is seen more sea level rise than other parts of the country. And then there's a whole bunch of other things that can cause that to you. Know ocean currencies big things that span hundreds of miles in the ocean. They cost the water on one side of them to be higher on the other side. You know so. Because of currents and gravity the oceans themselves are just kind of lumpy which is why sea level rises different everywhere. I am learning so much right now. You're basically saying is that sea level rise is local essentially and if cities want a plan for this and figure out what an who is at risk they'll need tailor-made information for their location. Yeah that's where these historical records come in. You know they reveal what these geologic processes and ocean conditions are doing in each place right right and i signed us refine their computer models. Which are those high powered ways that we get forecast about climate change. I spoke to scientists. Tomas friedrich's at nasa's jet propulsion laboratory about this and he said local records really matter. If we don't have that information for these see to be like a few feet off the local records of sea level so especially when we try to projects like high water levels of like extremes sea levels that's how we call them It's very difficult to to get an accurate picture of that but there is a big issue with a historical records. They already have almost all of the ones that have been digitized. Come from europe and north america So what you're saying is we gotta find more places. More hillary islands so to speak with historical sea level data all around the world. Yeah and this is a problem across many kinds of climate data. actually the southern hemisphere hasn't been covered as well with things like whether stations and other kind of data collection historically So there's just this big effort to find these historical records outside of europe and the us in argentina. They're working to digitize records from nineteen o five that were taken at the port of raise But to go back farther in some countries it means looking at the records of former colonial powers that took control because when countries like the uk and germany and france extracted. Huge amount of resources from colonies often through force. They did it largely through shipping colonialism stealing and keeping a record of it yeah pretty much so right now in france the national hydrographic service is digitizing these title records from dozens of their former colonies from madagascar vietnam Some of those records though aren't as long running you know they were gathered. As part of geographic mapping or you know to study an area where they were putting in port project. But i spoke to one person who is working with the french to stitch together a longer running record dating back through his country's colonial history marbella unika for seafood unique is from cameroon and he's a phd student in france right. Now he started in german archives. Because that was the colonial power in the late. Eighteen hundreds until france took control so he's gathered the french records as well and then he the cameroon records after it became independent in nineteen sixty. Yeah that's really interesting. Project and just a clear example of how the legacy of colonialism continues to impact science today. Yeah yeah i mean. It's digging through. His legacy is how he's kind of finding these records And there's really only one other long-term record in africa and that's from the car senegal so he knows cameroon could be crucial for improving global climate models But it could also be really helpful for cameroon itself. Nieto's just told me that. The country's largest city douala right on the atlantic coast and estuary and it's extremely vulnerable to flooding already. I'm just last year. There was a huge flood that displays thousands after really heavy rains. So when you add sea level rise to that it just makes the flooding issue worse. So he's hopeful that the historical records he's finding will lead to more detailed forecasts about just how fast the ocean is rising there because twala like other cities needs to start preparing now communities need to decide whether to move out of the way or build some kind of protection and

It’s coming: Blustery wind and at least 4-6 inches of snow forecast for Seattle area

"It ready for what might be the biggest snowstorm since 2019 almost Charlie Harder tells us the first flakes are expected to follow as early as tomorrow. Thursday. Snowfall is expected to hit to coma and points south with a few inches of snow. Come on his calm meteorologist Got cystic tells us Seattle might get a little that night. Then most of Western Washington will get inches of snow in a storm that hits Friday. Going into Saturday. We may be seeing, you know, four inches of snow six inches of snow some spots with eight inches of snow. Maybe even some spots a little more. This is the one we really want people to kind of be like, Okay, this is one that has the potential to really mess things up around here. Scott says, Depending on the track that storm takes, we could be in for yet another shot of snow Sunday night or we'll have some rain, so it's important to stay up to date on the forecast.

How to Start a Bonsai Garden

"Well i suppose there's limits but there's not much that can't be grown a bone inside trae when done carefully there are books it their classes on it So enjoy it. It's something to keep you to during the winter of any year and especially when we're so to speak trapped inside. I hope all of your being careful wearing masks. What your hands and all that good stuff. So let's let's just have some fun while we're doing now when i think Bone cy i think of like an evergreen type plant A pine or a spruce or something like that. So if i wanted to get started with bonsai what would you recommend. And how do you get started. Well mark let's go to those two seedlings i have run their deep deep in the debris of the beds. I knew they were there a year ago. Now they're they're this fall. When i cleaned up they are presently The juniper is i don't know maybe eight inches ten inches high Fairly narrow and upright like it's project and then the tax is lord knows which one Right now i can tell you. It's more of a horizontal grew. But i will dig those in the spring. Oh let's just say that being earliest probably march fifteen and then sometime hopefully before the middle of april while before they have gotten into really has it grew. Because i'm going to have to dig them. I'm gonna go out quite away sideways. And then we're way in to see where the roots are where their masked if there is a mass and then they will go right into the trays but they will have most of the soil that they started in shaking off off. Whatever i will then go to a very good mix of potting soil. Lots of lots of brigandage lots of water retention but not not sopping wet at any point in time. I will start them. I'm going to call it flat in the trade. I have several now old enough. That they're sitting above the edge of the trae by an inch and a half. They're starting to kind of look like a normal forest tree. In a very miniaturized way mine are not fussy. They're not sick. They would not be judged well in competition. They're just a lot of fun for me. So mark anything. Like that i have used The seedling of a privilege plant. I have used the ceiling will actually cutting that. I started of a A zillion now. Elliot's are a little tricky. I didn't have particularly good luck. This has been a while back. Haven't restarted that. But i have seen some magnificent zillions in bloom in bonsai trees. Pear trees maple trees. I tend when i'm looking for it myself. I tend to go for things that happen naturally. Small leaf and then by retarding its fertilizer and its water and so on. I can cause those leaves to be even smaller And then i have taken. What is this or rubber tree. Plant one of the indoor plants. And i have i think. Probably six or seven cuttings. That has now started to route. I'm looking for a proper trae. i'm gonna start a miniature forest of We'll see how that works out. So i may talk about it again along the course of this next year in terms of what kind of weapon having with the ceilings of this indoor plant which is a tropical They would have to come in before the temperature gets wet. Now let me tell you. I take mine outdoors in the summertime on a bench of the house. They get a full half a day. So they're in good shape and then they get shading the afternoon. So anyhow that being the sun factor. I leave them on the bench until the temperature in the fall. Hits forty five degrees on low night. Then they start coming in under the deck deck but under patio top and then into the house before that is the topic was come into the house and the others in on the ground in the compost bin. Half of it. I stack them usually flat on the ground. But a couple of my. I've kind of leaned in. And then i put about ten twelve inches of oak leaves over the top now scattered. I don't try to make out of it. All i wanna do is insulate them against fast freeze and thaw. And it's rare that i lose what in the wintertime so that's kind of the score and anybody can start them You will be digging taking either plants that are potted in a garden centre or whatever and there are many of those little ones that that you can start in the bone side trade. You just simply take them out of their pot. Usually wash off the soil of the roots. You could see what you're working with. Cut off the lowest ones work with the ones that are nearer the top of the soil in the container and then spread them out right on top of about a quarter of an inch of soil. Half an inch of soil in this container and then put some well now putting oil and then put some potting soil over them. Be sure very sure that the container drains They can be suffocated quickly with too much water. So big holes. For drainage i think screen over the top of that so they don't lose a lot of water and then i always put them on a tray indoors. They're they're bound to drop off excess water when i'm watering so always into a tray of their own For my furniture's safekeeping.

How to Repair Your Skin Barrier With Celebrity Facialist Joanna Vargas

"Let's start with the basics what exactly is your skin's moisture barrier and why is it there. What is the do well. I mean i think you know we talk so much into butte and industry about like wrinkles and bo talks and things like that we forget the skin actually has a function and its function is to be a barrier between us and the environment so the skin's moisture barrier is the outermost layer of your skin. It helps protect the body It helps retain water and moisture It defends against like bacteria in the environment environmental stressors and you know prevents things from penetrating into the skin so that we don't have a reaction so it has like a a very important function for us. It's the fundamental of what the skin does and we talk about it at the least i feel It is the most important part about our skin because it makes us look plump in juicy and healthy and soft when it's healthy and so yeah it's something that's very important. No matter what kind of skin type you have no matter your age okay. Yeah that was gonna be my next question. Like other certain types skin types or skin eight inches that are more prone to having damaged skin barrier. Mostly i'm talking about like the skin on your face. Well i mean. I think for example like winter is a time of year where i think a lot of people experience to some degree Some irritation due to the loss of moisture in the environment. And therefore your skin gets a bit patchy may be if you are out during the day for a long period of time you'll have like readiness on your face but typically you know there's obviously people that have just in their dna some skin sensitivity. You know some psoriasis eczema. That's that has a genetic component you know and then there like the people who have poor digestion they might have some patchiness in readiness and some irritation. But it doesn't it can happen even if you have oily skin. It really depends on what you're using on your your skin. What your habits are in terms of your skin. Those really affected a great deal. And so how do you tell the difference between an impaired skin barrier versus you know wind. Burn or zima or psoriasis. How do you know if your skin barriers been disrupted. Well you know this skin house tendency to to show sensitivity patches. So i i'm sure everybody can remember a time when they've had like a dry patch on their face and may the rest of the skin feels okay or maybe you have my son. Has that right now. So i'm listening with the keenest ear. How old is your son. He's he's six and he's got a patch right beside his cheek that he's had for about six weeks and it just so drier and rudder. Yeah continue my boy who is now fifteen Have that as a younger person also happens easier because they play out. Fight a lot and that really dries you out. You know rose atia redness itchiness itchy skin and share a lot of people have itchy scalp during the winter all of back stock visible. Sign that your your skin. Barrier is malfunctioning so to speak and it needs some soothing and comfort and some rehydration ximines. Psoriasis are more extreme versions of it. which also occur in patches on the skin But there are a lot of you know that you would have to consult a doctor to really determine if it was something that was in your genetic makeup or if it was something caused by something topical or something in your diet like an allergy of some kind right right. Because i feel like that's with With eczema almost like immunity related. Or it's like almost like an immune response rather than it can be absolutely and it can also just mean that you're something that you can't digest properly and so your your bodies having a little bit of trouble. There are a lot of different causes for it. Which is why you know. You can also have a yeast overgrowth in your gut. But that would be things that if i suspected that if you came meant for facial and it looked like that to me i would just send you to a doctor. Not a doctor. So i don't right. I try to stay in the lame a fair and respect that and so how does the skin barrier become damaged or compromised. What are some of the main you know factors you know. A a very common factor would be over exfoliating. I remember when i first became an esa titian in the late nineties. It was like a fashion to have cholic acid in every single. Step of your routine. In how like in the beauty industry like ingredients. Become like the thing. And you wanna put it on in every step like i had clients that were using a glycol at wash ugly colic toner a glide colleague serum and moisturizer and everybody's skin was like flaky and read and sensitize. It was very hard to give atias to those people but also sun damage can cause it. You know Prescription acne medications and prescription retinol formulas can cause it. I've seen people use essential oils essential oils on their face and they get Compromised if you if you wash your face in the shower shower water is way too hot for your face back could cause it Chemical peels flying too much back in in the before time when we used to travel places on even air conditioning in caused so mike mobs of different causes But usually i would say the number one offender is over exfoliating or over. You know acclaimed being over eager in the chemical kill type department. That sort of stuff now. I i have a follow up question if you don't mind about is the prescription retinol because you know my skin does get extremely dry when i use it and And it starts to become red. And i feel like that's expected you kind of expect this dryness. So what is the difference between dryness and compromise skin barrier. Is there one. Well sure i mean dryness is the beginning of it right you don't you don't want your skin to be overly dry because that that is compromising gonna lead to you know craziness which will lead kind of like the the compromising actors like your. Your skin won't be able to take as much stress from the environment as the result of that overly dry situation. You're creating. I don't have a lot of clients anymore that use prescription retinal because there are so many great over the counter formulas. That don't do that. So i i feel like that you know. I've been in sedition for over twenty years. That's changed a great deal at least in new york. But i think you know the difference between having you know when you like right now. I'm extremely dry. And my skin feels a little bit tight but it's not read in. It's not flakier itchy when it starts to become itchy in certain spots. That's when you know you've crossed over into a compromised moisture barrier and that and you know you really should wait until that point to start treating it if this dried tight feeling. I'm going to have to handle that today. So it doesn't

Samsung Galaxy S21 vs. iPhone 12

"Galaxy. S twenty one. Yes twenty one. Plus any s twenty-one ultra starting at eight hundred dollars for the standard model with the s twenty one plus costing about a thousand dollars and then the s twenty one ultra costing about twelve hundred dollars for years now. Samsung has positioned itself as one of the top. If not the top smartphone available on google's android platform as a result it is often considered the primary rival to apple in its iphone. So here's the question. How does the new line of samsung galaxy devices compared to the iphone. Twelve the latest model of apple's popular smartphone. That's we'll break down today. Let's start with the twenty one versus the iphone twelve the standard models. They're very similar. Screen sizes the same overall size. Weight of the phone is the same. Here's where they kinda stick out a little bit. The twenty one offers more storage at starting line so you get one hundred twenty eight gig versus sixty four gig at the start for an iphone twelve. The other thing is interesting to the twenty. One offers three cameras on the back of the phone basically meaning telephoto lens which is typically included on models of the iphone. Twelve pro are available here The iphone twelve has just two lenses on the back of its phone. So you're looking at four cameras. Total one front three in the back on s twenty one for his three total cameras one front two in the back for the iphone twelve also pricing pretty much. Exactly the same. So essentially within twenty. One you're getting an extra camera and more sword right out of the gate. The s twenty one plus versus the iphone pro with the iphone twelve pro again. You get a third camera on the back but telephoto lens. But what's interesting is the twenty one plus gives you a larger screen so instead of the six point one inch screen that you would have on the iphone twelve pro you end up with a six point seven inch screen on the twenty one plus so that's interesting to And again both. Those phones are pretty much on par price-wise prices the same. The size of the phone is really the difference here in terms of the screen. The starting storage is the same one hundred. Twenty eight gig but really. It's about that screen size. You get a lot more screen for your buck with that samsung phone now. Let's get to the granddaddies here. The ultra for the pro. Max with the ultra. You get six point eight inch screen so really not that big a leap compared to the plus the iphone twelve pro. Max is where you see a bigger leap and screen size from the pro. Six point seven inches When you're looking at the key features the pro. Max camera system has some smaller upgrades to get better. Zoom for example. I'm higher aperture as well. The twenty one. Ultra has an astonishing cameras on the back of the phone. So you get a second telephoto lens. That's interesting to price price-wise also it's about one hundred dollars more for the s twenty ultra versus the iphone. Twelve pro max. Here's another wrinkle to this though you have a fourth iphone. Twelve model the iphone twelve mini which is essentially the iphone twelve. Just in a much smaller size. In fact i just upgraded to an iphone twelve mini coming from an iphone seven and it's actually smaller than the iphone seven but it has a bigger screen and it's a nice phone and i think for folks that maybe are just tired of the bigger smartphone screens. It's a good alternative

Samsung introduces the Galaxy S21

"Samsung just released all the details about its new galaxy s twenty one smartphones and. I know you've been pink. Close attention to him. Give us all the details. Yeah this is. This is my first time to dive into a full samsung smartphone launch. You know in the past our colleague jeff. Graham often Would get involved in that more so you have to bear with me. I may not be on top of it as much as he would be. But i can tell you one thing. Samsung is is really trying to challenge apple in smartphone. Supremacy here in the us and actually at the end of last year like in the third quarter. Samsung nudged ahead of apple as the selling smartphones in the us. So this is ongoing battle. one thing that's going to help Samsung this time around is across the board. The s one smart galaxy s twenty one smartphones at two hundred dollars lower than the s twenty models released last year so the entry level model starts at seven ninety nine and that's the twenty one than the twenty one plus nine ninety nine. It's slightly larger. And then he s twenty one ultra is one thousand one hundred ninety nine. That's where it starts and it's got a super camera that will. I'm sure we're going to touch on here And it's six point. Eight inches the The twenty-one pluses six point seven and the s. twenty one is six point two. So historically samsung's made these great looking devices and displays look are fantastic. But i haven't seen these in person yet. So i've watched them on the presentations online. And i've seen what some of the folks there are. Some reporters are in reviewers at the have models that are starting to talk about their experiences. But there's some really interesting features here. And i think the really tying into the fact that people love cameras and they wanna be able to take more types of photos and video clips. You know because we're so many apps use clips now and they have this single take feature which carries over from the last year's model which you just use a single tap and grabs a sequence and then you can decide whether you want to use still or a slow motion video or some other type of clip. There's also this. Cool eight k video sequence you can shoot a single frame from. That's easy for me to say at the end of the week and that's really going to be helpful with like shooting moving subjects like babies and kids animals. You know because they don't you say pose and of course they don't listen to anything you're saying but if you catch like two or three or four second clip you're going to get the smile and everything in there right so People that love take footer to the kids and dogs kinda like that. There's another feature called directors view which lets you see what you're shooting from different angles and you can change lens during the recording. And then there's of lager mode so you could actually shoot yourself And shoot outwards. Unboxing video for instance you like. You're opening up playstation five or whatever you know you could you could shoot that. So one of my sources that i talked to after the launch basically says it's a movie camera in your pocket and that's samsung is trying to really establish itself. You know as the top camera smartphone. i guess it's interesting too. Because if you look at the entry level s twenty one it's the same price as the iphone. Twelve But you get the extra camera it. There's two camps to rear cameras on the iphone twelve when front camera and then for the s twenty one get four so it's basically three on the back one in the front Not to mention the other interesting. Partout is I think you get more storage on the entry level s twenty one as well you get one twenty eight versus sixty four on the iphone twelve And then also the twenty one plus you get a bigger screen so you get kind of a a a a significant bump up in screen compared to i think the closest rival to the iphone twelve of the pro So that stuff's interesting. The one thing that is bugging me though is there are five cameras on the s. Twenty one alterra. There are four cameras on the back of the phone. And there's one in the front. At what point is this phone at. What point are smartphones. Going to start looking like the face of a spider where you have like eight camera lenses on the back of the phone. And there's all this different stuff i i get. You want to take great pictures. But i'm also. I don't think we need twenty different camera. Lenses on the back of your phone to achieve a high quality picture. I mean do we really. I think that's what's going to happen. Is this model. Lineup will probably not this model because only the just the model the twenty one. The only one that has this. I think the uptick on it will kind of dictate what they do going forward. You know A telephoto lens that has this basically like two cameras built into one in a way is is going to be used a lot and tested a lot by a lot of people and we're gonna find out if it becomes something people really want and use. It's gonna stay. I think if if they go ma'am you know and then again there may be a new solution for that down the road For shooting that. I'm not a camera expert. I'm going to learn more about it. but Definitely we're gonna have smartphone battles for the foreseeable future

Replacing A White Pine

"We also had a An email from kevin to fred plan talk radio dot com and kevin says i cut down white pine. That was dying in my backyard. And i need another tree to plant in its place. Stump has been ground out. Can i put a new tree in the same spot. I was thinking about norway spruce. Well i'm going to say yes men that i had put some qualifiers He doesn't speak to how big this tree was. And then i know the approximate depths of a stump grinder esprit approximate depth. That it goes into the ground now if he starts with a very small norway spruce. I'm sure we're just fine if he wants to stay the five to six. It has a significant ball under it. Then we've gotta go into Either probing and getting all the grits and bark and stuff. Well chips out of that hole so you can set the bowl down in far enough because it the chances are that It's not a fault of them. it's just that they don't usually grind below about six to eight inches deep in the ball on a norway. Spruce can be better bigger than that now. Choices one is to get the pick and and try to dig out more of the stump in the middle of the whole or lay the spruce on its side very carefully at the very bottom. They're generally speaking in a rooted route. Ball plant there won't be much route that is alive and or going to stay alive and complete the plants task of getting started over again so you could. For example if the root ball is is twelve inches deep. You've only got eight inches to get down in there. We're number one. You can plant it high and then mound up around it. Which were we're fine but if you wish you can very carefully with Hand trowel Take off the bottom. Two three. i would think even four inches joust off the very bottom not the sides and then stuff that down in there the occasion for that stumped continue to rot out is very very strong White pine isn't going to be the most resilient would but at the same time you will end up with within the three years that it takes that nutri to get established adelson not enough routes to the side. It probably won't settle much if at all so you you can do this I know one gentleman. And i think every time i get into this he he had a plant in the concrete patio. Inner circle because patio. It died in due time he got a pickax and I think it's called an ads. But whatever it is he's been hooked that stomach because they couldn't get a grinder in there It took in the summer but he planted another. It happened to be an evergreen. He played in. i might have been exclusive. I don't remember now. He planted a tree right smack down in there and it was a little bit higher beginning. It apparently either just settled out a touch or The stump continued to write out below. Whatever but it ended up. Far as i know five six years later he had a successful tree in a spot that was a real murders lead to get do. So yes answer is simply quickly said yes you can do this but try to get it in the ground sufficiently deep and at the same time. I always harp on the fact. You don't want to plant things too deep 'cause they'll get too much water and soak up and and decay the roots so the chances of that happening in this situation are very remote. Do try to get it in the ground somewhere near the level that it grew in in the nursery.

So basically, you have the stand and sits on top of a table. It's got the speaker built into it the whole bit. And then when you hit a certain button, blah, blah, blah, the screen comes up and raises up out of the stand. Well, I mean, it's it's, but it Kerr it's curled, oh, this is actually rolling out. One phone won't come out of the same time probably as the five point, eight inch iphone. In the six point, five hundred phone. This is the LCD model that will come out later versus last year. They'll say, models being on time and the iphone ten eleven model being later. He doesn't say like a month later two months later a little later believe. So it sounds like you know, these new iphones come out at the end of September. It could be like maybe two weeks later or like, you know, maybe someone played, but maybe it's not early November like it was last year. Yacht ending is going to be an error in ten babies, the tell ya that goes type, but that's how bad the other funds come out. The lost basically the last week of September anyway. So there's no even far pout really. Right, and it's not so bad for apple that the more expensive ones with the higher the higher selling price wins come out first and then you get to imagining and pre-order at the same time, like last year, if you walk into a store, you can't buy the cheaper when it looks new to. And in some cases, bigger. So there's some, there's some accidental benefits of that too. He also think that makes a huge difference to people smart enough. Like if they won't this one white extra week or whatever, like it's kind of an impulse thing. But I think it is some factor of like the ten might look new this year less. You want gold, but the what we call nine for now will look newer because it's got more colors in disastrously bigger even though in job, some things like I think people be waiting for the colors and as long as you're out. Well, in time for the holidays, which is you're saying, so diet is going to be like another November. Repeat, I think you say through just be the size. Come September the middle tolerance data hoping here. We like it doesn't in this game things. I don't think that really makes much difference on real purchasing decisions. I suppose it affects the quarter results a little bit. If they have. Calendar q. q., three, some iphone ten and ten plus cells. But then you don't have any of that one nine thousand till the calendar q..

"I agree yeah i mean i know you've there's a lot of reviews on on different camping stoves and stuff like that but as anything you could add to that yeah i mean i i keep coming back to a jet boil honestly like i i mean i hate to say that when we're talking about woodburning stoves but that's just become my preference even though i still carry a collapsible stove i always come back to that as a as a first strike basically but i do have a little collapsible stove i think it's called honey stove but it's basically an octagon shaped woodburning stove and you assemble it so it stacks flat doesn't way much it's made at titanium panels but it all fits together in an octagon shape and it's you know probably about this big say i know small plate sized maybe eight inch circle or something like that and it's great because like you said you can feed you know or anything into cook on it but it's also got the option to put a little burn inside it's a little burners you can fill it with denatured alcohol burn that to a fuel source which is super cheap and it's not you don't want to stack or consume fuel canisters you can just have a couple of gallons natured alcohol on probably burn everything for the foreseeable future just doesn't take a lot to to us to do that through a put it in the kind of two separate categories like i'm right there with the oil as my virtually fuck and use that thing fucking cam whatever and if it was like all the power went out and it's a couple of days like that's what i would use to me i look at it more like as a longterm lancashire it's good to have something absolutely you know to burn have both like i wouldn't know wouldn't have either have both do have both us both but but anyway that's you know again for people listening like you got to think about things like that from a longterm standpoint you know as as it relates to that shit but so the kind of the last thing just because the nature of of our backgrounds and whatever firearms and weapons i have mixed feelings on on that but you know one thing i'm curious to get your take as far as from a from an it standpoint like is that something that you talk about much you know things to keep in your house your vehicle whatever for from self defense standpoint and what what your take on that i certainly do because i i mean i carry i'm licensed to carry and so was kelly so it is a big thing for us but at the same time it comes down to training really if you know when i talk about it it's always like hey make sure you have training and get the training if you're going to buy expensive gun by cheap gun and spend that money on training you know it's just you can't train enough with lynn comes to firearms you know even if you think it's second nature you know something really happens you know the wheels fall off so you know the more that you can train with better but yeah absolutely wreck commend farms for self defense and having those in the home and just making sure they're secured around kids is a huge factor too and you know that's that's kind of the gist of it any any other you know non firearm related weapons that that you recommend because i know there's plenty of people that like one of the things we talked about on on the first podcast was using hornets spray and fire extinguishers and shit like that to you know to augment if if you just can't can't or won't or you know legalities or whatever maybe you're convicted fill and you can't have gun fuck i don't know there's always a knife i guess you know you could get into how to throw nights joking but the i mean the gist of it is that you know if you were going to i don't know if you wanna protect your home and you're worried about somebody coming in i would i would divert my efforts more to securing a home you know rather than worrying about necessarily what i need to protect myself somebody comes in however i mean it's always a a chance happens but i mean honestly i don't know.
