"Out. You're out of it. And that I've done it. It happened to me and clearly to a past that exam in the locker room. And, you know, obviously also, we learned symptoms of his back and his ankle also came up, so don't know how much that was in play back there during that examination, but clearly he got approved to go back on the field. So he never was put in the protocol. So the protocol and the ability to pass it to not even have to enter it, such that you can return to play on that same day in that same game. The idea that you're going to be asked these questions and the idea that they're going to be questions in the way that you described, did you know all of that? Our players aware of, listen, if this happens, you're going to need to, you know, what do you know about what you're about to experience? No, I mean, I only knew it because I had gone through it, especially I had to go through it twice in the second time because I got out of it. I passed the test. And you know, to be honest, a somewhat similar situation when I was in Kansas City. I took a hit. Remember it really well. I tried to jump up and bounce up as you do. You know, as a quarterback, sometimes you try to take pride, right? You get a good hit and you try to jump up and let them know you're okay. And I quickly jumped up and same kind of thing, lost my balance. I almost felt like my leg gave out underneath me and it had a wobble. And really felt fine. And this whole series of events started, right? Taken to the bench, asked the very generic, easy questions, past those, got taken to the locker room, passed the more extensive test, was deemed not to have a concussion. I felt great, made that very apparent. I knocked the test out. Now all of a sudden, I come trend back out on the side. But I'm proud of yourself. And I just passed this test, you're good. Yeah, give me back in the game, coach. And I was adamant. Adamant about it, you know? Andy, put me back in. And he did. I went back in the game. And here's a coach. I have a ton of respect for coach football as long as anybody, right? He was there. We'll get into is the experts cleared me. I passed, I passed their metric of a concussion that I got through and similarly the two I shouldn't have and got through it and I went back in the game. So I want to take a quick just pit stop here and discuss how you passed it. And how clear it was that, oh, this is a thing that I aced versus this is a thing that involved some judgment call on behalf of the person administering it, right? When he's talked about, I should not have passed it, but I did. Explain that. Explain how it is that there's ambiguity in this test. Oh, I think in the sense that, you know, we obviously know that concussions kind of fall on a spectrum, right? Like it's not binary. It's not an honor enough. I clearly had had one. It was pretty mild. I was incredibly focused during that test because I knew once I knew once he pulled me back in the locker room and he started down this road, I mean, here we go. You know, I'd already had the concussion in San Francisco. We're going to get to that concussion in a little bit to be very clear here, but the one in which you're describing a scene that looks a lot like two of us when you watch the video. Yeah, you're coming out of that saying, I am not going to fail this test. Yeah, and I was locked in. I was incredibly focused given the circumstances like as competitive as you could get that I'm going to pass this test. I mean, I'm going to pass this freaking test. I'm not going back into the protocol. And yeah, so again, given the very mild nature of the hit I took, I did. I aced it. I aced it, pavlov, I crushed it. The async of the test, right? It sounds like the test also involves you testifying to the degree to which you are being that you are suffering from the effects of a concussion. Yep, without a doubt, without a doubt, I withheld, yeah, you're withholding. You're not telling the full truth. Yep. And now I was very, I was 100% clear headed. I remember absolutely everything about the incident, but that still didn't change the fact that you knew you had a concussion and you didn't report it because you wanted to compete. Yeah, I knew I had taken a good hit. Pablo, I knew that I knew that I had been compromised. I guess would have been would be a good way to put it. I felt great, so like from a classic definition of a concussion and getting, you know, even getting your bell rung, I wouldn't even have said that. But here there was a visual sign. Everybody saw it. I felt it. It was strange. It was hard for me to even verbalize what had happened. But all of a sudden, now I felt pretty good, especially ten, 15 minutes removed from the situation, felt good. Here this independent neurologist is giving me a test. I've been given a lot of tests. And I'm going to do my best to pass this thing. You know, and but yeah, no doubt. Without a doubt, again, to go back to your question, though, there is some level of half truths that get told, you know? There's clearly withholding of information. And the motive to do that, to withhold information, to distort the reality of your concussion, how do you explain that? What motivates you to do it? Yeah, it's a good question. Certainly to play. To get back out there, this was my second concussion. Obviously, we haven't touched my first that cost me my starting job. So certainly that's sitting there. I had gone through a lot, here I felt like my career was finally taking off in Kansas City. And I didn't want to let that slip through my fingers, you know? It's hard. I'd also been pretty veteran. I at this point got little kids. I want my brain to be healthy for the rest of my life. You know, so I'm also don't get me wrong. I mean, I'm not naive or ignorant to these things, but you're trying to talk yourself into it as well, you know, in that moment. Yeah, I feel good. You know, yeah, it was nothing. So, yeah, it's hard. And then, yeah, I mean, I think that was it, you know, that I had felt good. I tried to talk myself into that that I was okay, and that I could go play. And you know, again, also maybe to rely on that, yeah, like if I pass this test, I am good, right? This means I'm okay. The expert, this means this means I'm good to go. So that only further empowered me that I was okay. Well, let's get to what happens next. In this same game, when you're a Kansas City chief because the story of your concussion does not end there. What happens next? No, it's like deja vu. My first concussion I got when I was I slid. First and ten from the 22 with a quick fake handoff to win. Smith saw marble as a quarterback and he takes a vicious shot. Edwin Jackson getting his money's worth. And he's woozy. He's woozy. They're going to have to take a look at there's no doubt he took a shot here. And you know quarterbacks get to save themselves by sliding feet first. But if you slide late, then you can't put it on the defender to hold up and not take a shot. And this was, you know, this is like the infamous I kind of talked to Andy Reid into running some QB driven run plays, you know, read options and I love them and I always told them I protect myself will be fine. And so I slid feet first on the first one, you know, slid kind of late, defender coming over the top and when you slide feet first as a quarterback, you're just so vulnerable. And sure enough, he kind of hits me up in my head and same kind of thing is too. I bounce off the turf and that was the first incident. Well, second incident. It's like, again, like, here we go again. DN crashes. I pull the ball. I'm running in space. I know the situation. We're winning. I know I already had this once in one incident. Right. I slide again. I feel like I slide even earlier. Sure enough, safety comes over the top, clips my head, and it's like same thing. I hit my head on the ground and yeah, it

"Fewest combined in the history of major league baseball when it comes to combination of pitcher and catcher further. No hitter this was also tyler gilbert's first complete game at any professional level even at the minor league level throughout his four or five years in the minor leagues. He had not throwing a complete game. His previous career high was eight innings. And he did so as a member of the phillies organization in two thousand sixteen when he was with the lakewood blue claws which is the level a single level for the fight and fills so he had eight innings in twenty sixteen so his first career complete game at any rank in the professionals. A goes as a no hitter as well certainly fascinating another little tidbit there. So man all the odds in just the probability of this happening had to be below one percent just with all of these different stats and combinations. Make it that much more impressive. It was the third no hitter in diamondbacks history joining edwin jackson in twenty ten and randy johnson. Who threw a perfect game back in two thousand and four now. Both of those games also took place on the wrote so gilbert's no-hitter was the first thrown by diamondbacks pitcher at chase field jackson's game came at tropicana field against the race. And then johnson's perfect okay against the braves at turner field so the first home no hitter not perfect game. But no hitter for gilbert there in diamondbacks history. It was the first time the padres have been no hit since two thousand eighteen when the l. a. dodgers combined for a no hitter multiple pitchers in that outing combined for a no hitter against the padres. And it's also the fact that the diamondbacks are not very good. I mean this year. They entered the game. Forty three games under five hundred. Which is the worst mark ever by a national league team entering a no hitter. The only american league team to be more games under five hundred was the as back in nineteen sixteen the as at that point where twenty five and ninety one. My goodness gracious. So what does that sixty six games under five hundred for the as when bullet joe bush threw a no hitter that year against the indians so the second worst record when it comes to differential wins and losses for the diamondbacks as well in a no hit bid the twenty nine wind difference between the padres. Diamondbacks is also the fifth largest difference between teams that were no hit and had a no hitter thrown against them. So like i said a very bad team there in arizona against a good team in san diego the fifth most The fifth highest difference when it comes to victories there as well. And it's not like gilbert was popping up all day either right. The padres made hard contact. Ten times on batted balls against gilbert and the definition for hard contact is an exit velocity of ninety five miles per hour or greater off the bat with the hardest ball. That was hit at one hundred. Twelve point to it was a line out for manny machado but those ten hard hit balls are the second most by any team who has no hit. Since the stat cass era became available in two thousand. Fifteen the brewers had eleven hard hit balls against alec mills back in twenty twenty for a no hitter so again just hitting bosshard right at people all day and the old sane right you gotta hit them where they ain't you don't have to hit it hard. Be got hit them where they ain't when it comes to getting hits offensively also joe. Musk grove. Who threw the first no hitter in padres history earlier. This year was now. They starting pitcher for a team. That was no hit. So he's been on both sides of the no hitter. He's the twelfth pitcher ever to throw a no hitter and have one thrown against him in the same season the first time since two thousand and fifteen when it happened against jake arrietta so a team whose thrown a no hitter and ben no hit in the same season. That's only happened six times. Since two thousand and ten you had the twenty ten raise the twenty twelve mariners. The twenty thirteen giants in the twenty fourteen phillies also having that happen against that and as well as just some other crazy facts. That have come out as well as that. Because gilbert was in triple a. last year and ultimately did not have a season due to the corona virus in the pandemic. He was working as an electrician for his dad. So this guy. One year ago working as an electrician goes to this year to throw a no hitter. So imagine being one of those homes or businesses where tyler gilbert recently hooked up the electricity and now he's on the other side you're watching him in the big leagues throwing a no hitter. So just a crazy crazy across the board. Well how did gilbert do it. I mean looking at baseball savant. It's really fascinating as well. His pitch selection. He threw a cutter it. So i threw one hundred and two pitches. Total forty eight of them were cutter twenty-eight were sinkers or two seam fastballs and nineteen. We're foreseeing fastballs. So that's quick math. That's ninety five out of one hundred and two pitches. We're of the vast fastball variety whether it was a straight for seem to seem with a little bit of run or a cutter moving in towards the right handed hitter and gilbert earned twelve called strikes or swings and misses with his cutter and eleven with his fastball. So he was basically use in both sides of the plates work in the fastball. Two different ways. I and he was able to get twenty out of his twenty three swings and misses or called strikes from his cutter his sinker. So the padres just couldn't basically figure out out of his hand which way this ball was gonna go was it gonna run was gonna cut ultimately what was taken place there so it's just fascinating too when you look. At some of the expected hit rate you put a percentage on so many machado's hundred twelve liner to left field. That type of contact has an expected batting average of eight ten so eighty one times out of one hundred. If you hit a ball that hard on that angle it ends up being a particular style of hit. Even tommy famous game ending lie now came off the bat at ninety one five and had an expected batting average of seven fifty but ultimately went right to the center fielder so luck was certainly on his side. A little bit but again just tim working zone pounding the strike zone. Absolutely fantastic for tyler. Gilbert so gilbert joins carlos road don. John means wade miley spencer. Turnbull corey kluber and the combined efforts by the chicago cubs for the eighth. No hitter of the twenty twenty one season and man just looking at his stats in the minor leagues. He's always been effective. He's got a career minor league. Er a of three point. Three seven pretty much. Every year is right around the three mark now. he's thrown twelve and two third scoreless so far this year. Of course the nine scoreless over the weekend and a couple of other Outings when it came to relief appearances earlier this year but man shadow to tyler gilbert for what he was able to accomplish this weekend and earlier in the day saturday it looked like we were going to get a different no hitter. The philadelphia phillies had held. Cincinnati through seven innings to know hits left-hander matt moore when six hitless innings and it was his longest outing of the year. He was ultimately taken out after the sixth innings. Just because he really hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt to continue to go through the lineup hector nearest came in through a hitless seventh-inning before ultimately archie bradley allowed a solo. Home run in the top of the eighth inning to lose the shutout and the no hitter. So i was falling along to a no hitter in the phillies game and then all of a sudden later on in the evening we had ourselves another one taking place out in arizona with tyler gilbert so the year of the pitcher continues across major league baseball with the eighth no hitter and we now have about six weeks to ultimately get one more before they can set the all time record of nine no hitters for one season and right now going all the way back to eighteen eighty four some would say this is the most anyway when it comes to major league baseball but man tyler gilbert congratulations. I just. i don't know what type of an encore you can throw up after this one throwing.

"And david robertson completed the five hit one run affair against the dominican republic so japan and korea were then facing off where japan won by a score of five to two so japan has yet to lose a game here at the olympics in this basically sent korea to face off against the usa so the usa defeated the dominican republic. They were gonna face the loser of the korea. Japan game ultimately being korea and then. The usa won by a score over korea seven to two so. The usa advances to the gold medal game by defeating korea. Seven to two with a five run bottom half of the sixth inning. Being the difference the score was two to one heading to the bottom of the sixth and the usa had themselves a big inning once again on the mound joe ryan for the usa four and a third allowing only one run Rider ryan one and two third scoreless. Scott mcgauchie one third of three hits one run anthony ghosts and anthony carter combined to finish off that score by a final of seven to two so once again. We have the bronze-medal game tomorrow. Friday friday evening between the dominican republic in korea and then the gold medal match up between the usa in japan. Taking place saturday morning so. The usa made it difficult on themselves by blowing. That lead. japan but bounceback victories over the dominican republic as well as south korea puts them right in the gold medal match up in a rematch against japan. Where the winner will take goal. So who's been performing for team usa when it comes to the offensive side of things. Tyler austin is the big winner for the usa. He's sitting four twenty nine. He is nine for twenty one with two home runs. Three doubles seven. Rbi's so he's doing a bit of everything for team usa and you also have a tristen casas. He's only hitting to sixty three but he has three home runs in a double as he has five for nineteen and he's the team leader with eight. Rb is so out of the twenty eight. Rbi's eight of them for casas. Seven for tyler. Austin are the two big names offensively. How are some of the other guys doing some names. you may recognize. Well todd frazier. He's struggling a bit. He is only three for seventeen in the tournament. he does have two doubles. He sit in one seventy six. You have bubba starling hidden to eighty six eddie alvarez to fifty eric phileas two fifty mark close vary hitting to thirty five jamie westbrook to twenty two jack lopez one eighty two in nick allen hitting one seventy six offensively so us as a team hitting two forty seven with a four thirty four. Slugging percentage and tyler austin and tristen casas doing a lot of the heavy lifting for the team. Usa when it comes to on the mount how we doing out the pitching staff going on here. Well you got some good and some not so good but overall the pitching has been fantastic for team usa anthony. Ghosts has yet to lower yet to allow a run in four appearances over five and a third innings edwin. Jackson has made two appearances. He's allowed one unearned run. It was the extra inning run against japan for zero point. Zero zero. era are though he was saddled with the only loss for team usa. You have scott kasmir again. Who made the one start five scoreless innings in fantastic outing for scott kasmir ryan writer. Who has one no. With three appearances in four innings. He's been excellent out of the bullpen. You have joe ryan. Who started two games for team usa. He's gone ten and a third innings allowing two runs on nine hits so he is one no with a one seven four. Era the other starter. Nick martinez he went five innings allowing one run for a one eight zero era. So the starting pitching for the. Us has fantastic. You had casimir. Go five scoreless. Nick martinez five only allowing one run. And then joe ryan started the other two games allowing two runs over the course of ten minutes now on the top end of the bullpen. Some of the bullpen is struggle david robertson. He's allowed two runs in three innings for a six era. You have shane by as allowing two runs into an two thirds for a six seven. Five and anthony carter to runs in and a third innings for seven seven one. Era but the team era for team usa over the course of forty five and one third innings is two point one eight so the pitching has really been the carrier for the usa. Say they've been excellent and just only allowing eleven runs over the course of forty five innings forty six strikeouts to only twelve walks as a staff again. Joe ryan he's been fantastic eight strikeouts only one walk so the starters there now. I don't know who lines up to start the gold medal game. If it's joe ryan i assume it will be if not. It's certainly looks like nick. Martinez would be next on the line. Or scott casimir would be the two guys potentially pegged to start so looking at some of the other lineups. Let's look at the dominican republic. No they had a few ex major leaguers on their squad. So let's look at how they've been performing so far this year or this tournament for the olympics. You have jose batista. He's hitting one forty three. He is only two for fourteen with one double in one in three total basis. So he's been struggling for the dominican republic. You have milio bonifazio. Only hit in one fifty four as he is too for thirteen on the tournament. So the dominican republic as a team only hidden their offense as certainly let them down even though they're playing for the bronze-medal on the pitching side of things again. They've gotten some good outings. A couple of starts angel sanchez. On hill sanchez scoreless over five innings rove vow dez. One run over five and a third and then you have danielle radius. Who's giving up two runs over four and two thirds innings as well from the starting pitching side of things so a team. Era of three five six for the dominican republic looking at israel who's been standing out for israel as they overachieved by winning a game earlier in the tournament. Shoutout to mitch glasser. He went seven of seventeen hidden. Four twelve as well as ryan lavarnway hitting three fifty seven for twenty during the tournament. Here so a nice tournament for them and then looking at japan's roster as we face off against japan in the gold medal game who are some of the names to watch out for. You have takia kyw. Hit and five hundred. He's five for ten high jato sakamoto hitting three eighty nine seven for eighteen.

usa south korea japan joe ryan dominican republic Tyler austin tristen casas david robertson Nick martinez Rider ryan Scott mcgauchie anthony carter todd frazier Rbi bubba starling eddie alvarez eric phileas jamie westbrook jack lopez

"I don't want to say he's a top twenty starting pitcher in two thousand twenty two. But he's on that path. He looks good. he's a strike out guy. Yeah no he you know as velocity dominate by guys away but troll strikes. He's got the full repertoire of pitches. He seems to know what he's doing. Throw strikes you know. Yeah top twenty. That's a little aggressive for sure. He's a good a good young starter. Good for you. You know. Spencer howard blew up and we traded him away. But you've got logan gilbert and other good young arms. That are coming up. I think seattle is closer. I think philly's might be closer to making the playoffs but seattle is closer to having an extended run of years where they content. I could see that. That's a good young team mechanic is going to be fine. What was your take on count. I mean you you send a sex a week ago saying i'm giving up on them but i don't believe that's true right. Well no i was. You weren't happy but you know. I do think we need to reevaluate his ceiling. He really struggles to see breaking balls. And that's what. I wonder if the hit tool is really going to be as good as all. The scouts projected You know the tools are there. Of course you know he still looks pretty confident and aggressive up there but so much swing and mess Hey i told you guys early. In the year. I made the jay bruce cop and that's kind of what i think he might be which is a power over hit. And that's still good player. But i don't think that's the superstar. Mariner fans are expecting. But i just don't know if there's a i don't think he's going to be a high average hitter. Kyle's always a high average shooter. Time to get him in now trivia and hashbrowns time. Kyle what say you do appreciate that. I have for decent average. How much pop in my bag. I think i've probably profile pretty similar to you are nice. I had a terrible softball season. Offensively defensively. I was really good lots of diving catches but i my powers has gone dave you now the man that i ever had power. It's really good so at least you're out there. I'm out there. You know i shouldn't be dave. You were there. That night is your pitch that walt had no range anyway kyle. I tried to catch a ball that the second baseman caught a pop up to second base. And i it was in my glove kyle. Please stop talking. sorry kyle. I mean he couldn't stop walking people. I know you're upset but you'll get it right. I mean it's football season. I'm gonna try i've irene. Tristen son and our group chat. And then i got like six tweets about it within like a half hour like the brandon if nothing else is strong but yet that was tough to see. He had his moment for like two weeks last season. So that was a that was a thing you know what i'm saying. Save this year so you win the over one hundred i think he said a three and a half so i think the under stoic and pretty good but anyway we got trivia for today. We'll get to chat with more. You know and he reemerges as an ethnic where we want. We won't get brought up. It's over give up through the deadline day. The yankees had the second worst opie from the top half of their line up among winning teams. Who was worse. Obviously the yankees revamped the top half of their lineup sense. So who is the wing team. It was worse. We'll get to that after these hash browns. I want from ross. Also if there's any prospects that were dealt ed line that are going to help us down the stretch this season well algesiras gray is in washington's rotation so that's one a bunch of i can't believe the prospects that were traded on friday. Dave i mean nick. Madugalle was a top pick just a couple of years ago. The medicine out armstrong. I can't believe austin morton the vanderbilt kid like he was drafted a year ago and he's already traded and sometimes the best talent in the draft. You went fifth. Yeah that was the big name that i was surprised. Simeon woods richardson's top one hundred guys on the olympic team. He was in that that same trade you know. I watched the olympic game today against japan and really interesting the kind of team they have because they have a bunch of prospects tristen kaas the boston. First baseman slugged. Opposite field three-run homer. And i was thinking you know if they hadn't traded for schwarzer causes could be up after the olympics and bashing batting six or seven tristan causes. Looks like a thirty home. Run guy. And unlike bob dole back looks like he'll hit for not decent average but like two fifty to sixty. I don't think it's coming up now. So he's on the forty man so they're they're going to wait until next year with him. That david robertson was a setup guy and you know he's not doesn't have a job on a team but and then and then my social brings an edwin jackson to lose the game in innings like. What did you think was going to happen there. So now they can't win win the gold still but prospects that were traded friday. I don't see like i think gray. I think hybrid ruiz. Who also came in the trae turner sherzer deal is washington's catcher in september. Maybe sharing with trae barreira. But i'm trying to think of anybody else out a guy because this is the kind of player you love okay. After the astros traded miles straw there. Are they going to call up this. Jake myers kid from triple a. He has an opioid over a thousand miles straw rostro by the way had some of the best defensive metrics field of anybody right now and they just dumped him. Yeah i don't know the weirdest trade. I thought of the day. Why are you trading. You're starting center fielder..

"Carter. He's a right handed pitcher for the perot's discs alito in the mexican league. I'm assuming that you have tristen. Costs are casas. Excuse me is a red sox. Double a player brandon. Dickinson or dickson. Who is a triple a. Saint louis cardinal. You have some other triple a. There's not really too many huge names on the list right now. I probably the biggest name is either. Nick allan or tyler austin and then shane buys you. Also have todd frazier. Tied frazier is currently a free agent. You have edwin jackson as well. And then you also have Dave robertson former former. Closer for the yankees. But so you have. You have some former major leaguers you have some very talented prospects and you also have a few guys that are playing in some of the mexican leagues and other other other places really but in game one. Us one eight to one and tyler. Todd frazier got to play in that game Starting on the mound was joe. Ryan the closer for the usa. Or that game was ryan. Right writer ryan. Excuse me say that five times fast. But for israel they had ian kinsley playing in kessler for the for israel goes over four with a strikeout. You'd have assists defensively. That's probably the only name that you might recognize on that first. Israel team is in kinzler for the us. You had todd frazier. Todd frazier goes for three with a run scored and a so. He apply reached on an error. If i'm remembering correctly and then game to the us defeats career by a score of forty two and looking at that box score. You have jamie westbrook star leading off going one for four with a run scored eddie alvarez hitting two going one for three with a couple of strikeouts but one hit and run scored. Todd frazier goes over three as well with a strikeout. Then nick allen played a little bit as well. Nick allen goes one for three with a run scored. The other runs scored was by tristan. Casas and nick martinez got the start he goes for. Innings gives up four hits one earned. Run nine strike outs. And then scott. Miguel goes one inning. After that strikes out to and edwin jackson comes in strikes out a couple but does get pooled and anthony used comes in throws one and a third innings strikes out. Nobody but gives the ball off to david robertson. Four the save and david robertson goes a one inning gives up one hit one earned run one walk and a strikeout david. Robertson gets the save and the teen a plays next on august. Second at if you are on the east coast team a please at six a m On august second against japan and then following that on august fourth you have the us versus a knockout round. This is going to be the last game in. I think pool play and then hopefully the. Us makes it to the medal round following this one this game versus japan and then to end. Today's episode. we're going to go over a few injury updates. So jacob degrom as been kind of hampered by injuries this whole year and fell additional inflammation in his right arm when he threw a bullpen session. Twenty third with a blister on his right index finger. in it's unclear if these to alienate elements are related fernando type tease junior. This is one of the saddest things of the year in my opinion. But totti's exited the batteries game against the rockies at petco park this past friday in the first inning after re injuring his left shoulder while sliding into third third base. He was placed on the ten days. list on saturday which a with a partially dislocated left shoulder but the club is optimistic. That the injury isn't too serious and is hoping he will be able to return as soon as he is eligible to come off the i l. That was what happened when he was on. The i l. last air and back in april i should say it's basically the same issue and if you saw the play tattoos was trying to be on the base path and advance from second to third on booted ball by the iraqis third baseman. He was not nearly as not nearly fast enough to get to the base before they realized anything and the short stop for a. I believe it was trevor story. Went to tag tat. Tease in at the shoulder and it looks like it looked like it got them right on the left shoulder as status was kind of like trying to move away but nevertheless he should be very good as he should be good as soon as he comes off of that injury kyle schumer is also on the injured list and it sounds as if the best case scenario would have schwarzer who has a right hamstring. "You know he was talking about it after the game, you know, after after they pitch, they go into the trainer's room and just do some post work therapy on the arm and things like that. And he said He was kind of watching the game on a T V. And he kept seeing things like the last no hitter here combined. No hitters. He's equated minute. Do we have a no hitter going right now? That's sort of how we found out. Usually, you know, but then, usually it doesn't involve four pictures, right? Not always. No, not not typically. Edwin Jackson. If I don't even know all year was 56 years ago through about 149 pitches, eight, walked eight batters and didn't give up a single hit, So I think it sounds like you two would have led Davies stuck it out and try to get the Edwin Jackson type. No hitter. Yep, that's the wrong in this situation, with the Cubs bullpen being dominant as of late Davies at 94 pitches. Ross went this direction, right? I've got a poll for you guys. I don't know if you'll be able to believe this. Or guess it. But how more percentage of Chicago area residents favor the Chicago Bears relocating to Arlington Heights Daily Herald. Did you see it already? We did. I don't know if it's the Daily Herald. We did some survey yesterday with Steve in the afternoon. I think it was like they Wait, So this is our in the forties are in the 60%. I can't stand heights or Chicago residents Chicago area Chicago area. I think it was at like 42% were two thirds. So Mary's right success 67%. We were all shocked IBS. That's wow. I think that's huge. That's much more than for Chicago resident fell over when I saw it. Um, it showed half of respondents strongly support the move, 16% somewhat support and 7%. Some would oppose it interesting when they started to look at the suburbs, though that's interesting because, they said Poll found. Suburbanites in particular are really back The move 77% of suburban Cook County people strongly or somewhat support bears going to Arlington Heights, 70% in DuPage, Kane, Lake McHenry and will Makes a lot of sense to move there, Anna Well, you think so? I just I'm so nostalgic about Soldier field. I just wish they could fit in. You know, some more people, you know, make it a Super Bowl worthy. I know they want the whole complex thing. They need the whole entertainment zone year round. Stuff. You can attract all kinds of different tournaments and see double eight tournaments for it. I get it. I get it. That's probably the future. I'm just very nostalgic about Soldier Field. Arlington Heights, by the way, overwhelmingly support the team. We had listeners tell us they were getting these polls that came to them, and they phone calls and asked him. 83% in favor. 12% opposed? I don't know. Does it surprise you guys that you think would you think that people wouldn't want the traffic and a little too close? Like I wanted to be the suburb over next over to me? Maybe not right smack in the middle. Yeah, I don't know. Business wise. I suppose it's good. If you're a business owner, or you know, it's you got a lot of people coming in. They're spending their dough. I mean, you had East if you had west toward down Euclid through Arlington Heights. I mean, that's one lane getting to the where Arlington Park is, you can imagine. Would that be like on bears Game day? But there are a lot of other good options when the train stops right there. Highway is right there. Dick A. By the way once the bears to stay at Soldier field. Did he have? Well? Yeah, he did. He said. Call me an old timer. Call me a traditionalist. I think people would they would call you both of those things. You want to tell me that a team coming up from a warm weather climate isn't given away a significant advantage to try and play in cold and rain outside in Chicago, December January. You could just hear them. You could just hear How has that been going for the bears? I know we like to joke about bear weather, but How much of an advantage really is Chicago bears football weather is part of this team's legacy, says Dick Ca, So I mean, if they have a retractable roof, we can still get some pretty nasty weather late in the season. Yeah. Okay? All right. That's uh, that's it. Rain is the pain point sponsored by green Care, medical, the rain that is coming and going. We like the rain. Some of us would like it to go away for some moments, but we're happy. It's there for farmers. Are we happy about what it's doing to the roads? Mary Vanderbilt what's happening there? I doubt it because it's pretty crowded on all the roads, even though it is a Friday afternoon, the outbound.

"For a rabbit hole of the week at five thirty eight. We often find ourselves falling down various rabbit holes of data. Some lead to stories sucked. We end each week. Show with one of those dissents. The hot take down rabbit hole of the week. What do you have for us neil. Well i want to hearken back to an earlier rabbit hole that listeners. If they were listening on may fourteenth twenty nineteen might remember When we talked about the mlb record for most teams played for that was at the time held by octavio hotel. At least we believed it to be held by octavio. Tell with thirteen franchises played for and edwin jackson. Another pitcher played for his fourteenth team. So he broke the record We believed it to be held by kotel alone at the time because of course at the time negro leagues players were not part of major league. Baseball history now. They are so we can say. Roosevelt davis who played from nineteen twenty four to nineteen forty five also pitcher Played for thirteen different teams as well so it was a co record. We didn't know it at the time but it was and then edwin jackson broken so fourteen teams. That was a lot for a player to play for. That's almost half of every team in major league baseball and as part of that i compared with other leagues so the nba record was twelve teams. It was a four way tie. We mentioned joe. Smith was one of those the anonymously named former number one overall pick the nba. He played for twelve teams in his career. The hockey record was also twelve held by mike cylinder play from nineteen ninety one to two thousand nine day. Neither of them beat edwin jackson's fourteen team record and the nfl record. That i found was at least in terms of playing in the regular season like actually four team belong to shayne graham. The longtime kicker. He had Ten franchises played for Now if you expanded it to practice squads and various other you know unofficial not playing in a regular season game but maybe a preseason game or so on and so forth. You could get josh johnson. He played for thirteen. Nfl teams j t o'sullivan. He played for eleven. Nfl team shayne. Graham actually played for fourteen. Which would match edwin jackson's record. I if you included practice squad and various other mechanisms believe ryan fitzpatrick is about to play for certainly. If you look at regular season he would. He would be nine. And i'm not sure how many he would have if you include practice squad. It seems like all of them feels like he's played and started and we've been made a comment that he was viewed as the long term or at least medium term answer for some of these teams at quarterback which is kinda wild not necessarily What you would think of from. J t o'sullivan. of course. i was reading the news..

And now that we know pearson is not going to be on the opening day roster adam where you go from here because you have re you ray roark probably mats and i don't know is it stripling is Anthony k is at who or do you go. Dumpster diving for veteran free agent. You would assume stripling is going to get in there just based on familiarity and i just think he's the most obvious if it was just pearson and you could probably get by. I really liked k. I think he deserves it. But i think they like him to start in the minors or at least in the first month. The quantico taxi squad. I would love to give him the chance but i have a feeling and i think. Aj brought this up last week when she was on. I think it's going to be thought. And before k in the eyes of the front office not whether or not we agree we can discuss. But i think it's going to be and that's going to get a shot before k which is unfortunate but i think struggling the obvious shoo in right now for pearson spot make i number two. But you know you're starting five so no dumpster diving for you out of not yet. I don't think they're going to do it yet. Craig are you going into the dumpster dancing on the edge kind of on beacon because there their names that are you know. "Day. It's a holiday, but it's also a day of reflection. And so we thought a really good idea would be to catch up with the players Alliance That is a group of current and former Major League baseball players of color who have gotten together to do some really important charity work to raise awareness around some of the economic gaps that exist. In the game, and we're very honored to have with us. The guy who helped start it all former major League baseball All Star and the President. Players Alliance. Curtis Granderson. Curtis really great to be in line. We've been John about baseball before we came on the show here. What a thrill for all of us. Tell us what direction it's a really important organization that you are leading. Tell us what it's all about. Well, thanks for having me on here. Super excited to be chatting it up with you all. Thank you very much for that. The players lines has been amazing. It's come together very quickly established this past summer in 2020, with everything that was going on everybody sitting at home in the middle of the pandemic, and then we have all the social injustice issues just right now face Small players collectively withstand. Hey, we got to start doing more than just posting something on social or creating a video saying we want to see change, And I think it was a combination of a perfect storm. I going at home couldn't go anywhere. People started figure out how to do it all, virtually with doom and other different ways and guys were able to easily start connecting with each other. And through that 150, current and former black baseball players got together to start what's called the Players Alliance. And From that point, we've been able to have mentor calls with recently drafted black players. I've also done called with an academic individuals from Jackie Robinson scholars that are some of the top universities in the country and we're just in the middle, getting ready to wrap up our cross country pull up Neighbor tour, which was 33 cities over the course of 40 days, starting all the way up in the Bronx and Brooklyn and wrapping up finishing up in California. Curtis, you know, go back to the to the origins of this if you will, because you know 2020. As you said, it will go down in history as a memorable year to say the least. And obviously, I think we started to look at player empowerment across the professional and even the college and high school ranks. In a different way. Tell us about how baseball players approach this. Tell us about some of the conversations that you had with with other black players as you really were a part of this national conversation. As this thing unfolded, it started at the helm with Cameron Maiden, Dee Gordon, Edwin Jackson, three guys that have played with so many different teammates. They're kind of like the community. Has they know everybody in this game? The three of them just started reaching out going. We got to do more. We got a report. That's how we ended up expanding to get to the 150 with myself Included there, and the crazy part about it is even though this year is summed up in so much focus was on it. So many conversations were publicly being had a lot of these conversations in the black community, especially amongst black athletes had been being had for years. Decades before we were having them huddled up in our locker rooms were having him as we're traveling to and from different cities will have him in the offseason, natural working out with guys just about different things about how we'd love to see this change. We'd love to see this in proof. How come we haven't seen this happened yet? And now this year with all the negativity that happened this year, some of the great things that have come out of this is that conversation isn't just one side and now it's not just us. We've started to have these conversations with Major League baseball with the Players association with ownership with different people that are in positions now. Be able to help the start Steve. Some of those changes happen, so it's been great to see that on hold. It's also been conversations in the communities where players live in. So it's been great to see that the conversations that we've been having are now starting to expand. People want to listen to what you gotta say. They also are trying to provide any ways that they can help out as best they can. Curtis. I think this is just a fabulous program going here. You've got some great mo mentum this year, and part of the reason is that it's just said a lot of the guys were sitting home with nothing to do now. Let's say that spring training opens on time in the current players are back working for six or seven months. How do you sustain the momentum that you've already built up? The challenge for sure. And that's one of the concerns that we had this summer when everything was unfolding. Once basketball starts once football stuff, we don't want this conversation to stop. This has to continue to keep going, and so far it's been good. Unfortunately, it's been a very slow off season in baseball this year from the free agent spy, there's only been one big trade that just recently happened. So because of that, a lot of the mo mentum. A lot of the steam is still there. You're hearing about it. You're learning about it. You're seeing the players lines out there doing this tour that's going on. But to your point, But the fact that a lot of these active players are gonna get back on the field they're gonna get busy playing. I think that's where our make up is really good. Where it's not just the active players. You have recently retired players that are still recognizable. Just species. The bath here Chris Young Chris Dickerson and myself mixed in with new players coming into the game and players that obviously playing so this single continue to keep going continue to keep the mo mentum while the guys on the field do their thing. I like myself that are now sitting back, No retire. We can continue to push the agenda in the right direction where we wanted to while also incorporating them coming up. We continue our conversation with Curtis Granderson, of course, former Major League baseball All Star and the president of the Players Alliance in the meantime and.

"I'm Jason Kelly and I'm Mike Lynch and Michael Bar Over the next hour. We will explore the big money issues in the world of sports and talk to some of the biggest players in the industry. Guys. It's a special edition of the show in honor of Martin Luther King Day. It's a holiday, but it's also a day of reflection. And so we thought a really good idea would be to catch up with the players Alliance that is a group of current and former Major League baseball players of color who have gotten together to do some really important charity work to raise awareness. Around some of the economic gaps that exist in the game, and we're very honored to have with us. The guy who helped start it all former major League baseball All Star and the president of players Alliance, Curtis Granderson. Curtis really great to be in line. We've been John about baseball before we came on the show here. What a thrill for all of us. Tell us what you're up to. It's a really important Organization that you are leading. Tell us what it's all about. Well, thanks for having me on here. Super excited to be chatting it up with you all. Thank you very much for that, and the players lines has been amazing. It's come together very quickly Established this past summer in 2020, with everything that was going on everybody sitting at home in the middle of the pandemic, and then we have all the Also in justice issues just right now face baseball players collectively were saying, Hey, we got to start doing more than just posting something on social or creating a video saying We want to see change, and I think it was a combination of a perfect storm. Going at home couldn't go anywhere. People started figure out how to do it all, virtually with doom and other different ways and Ever able to easily start connecting with each other. And through that 150, current former black baseball players got together to start what's called the Players Alliance. And From that point, we've been able to have mentor calls with recently drafted black players. We've also done called US an academic individuals from Jackie Robinson scholars that are some of the top universities in the country. We're just in the middle of getting ready to wrap up our cross country pull up Neighbor Tour, which was 33 cities over the course of 40 days, starting all the way up in the Bronx and Brooklyn and wrapping up finishing up in California. Tell us about some of the conversations that you had with other black players as you really were a part of this national conversation. As this thing unfolded, it started at the helm with Cameron Maiden, Dee Gordon and Edwin Jackson. Three guys that have played with so many different teammates. They're kind of like the community.
