"He came out and said that PBC offered Canelo Álvarez a $100 million combined for flights against Jamal Charlotte and Errol Spence and effectively said that, you know, in a way praising Eddie Renault, the manager of Canelo for getting the most money for the least risk in this deal that he took with matchroom and with the zone. What would you say to that? Well, firstly, there's absolutely no risk in fighting Jamal Charlotte. Because who on earth has jamel Charlotte ever be at middleweight? Give me one stand out win. You can't even do it on his resume. Right? He may be a very good fighter Charlotte, but his career is moving at a snail's pace. That's number one. Number two is what belt could Canelo Álvarez dethrone from jamel Charlotte in that fight. None. Okay? Now Errol Spence at one what will they want one 64, one 63, whatever it is firstly, Canelo has made it very clear. He doesn't want a box under a 168 pounds. Number two, what fights that for? What belt can he dethrone from aero Spence? Absolutely none. So I don't see that option. No in Canelo Álvarez, that option just gives him such little motivation. Give him a champion, let him move up, let him take a belt, let him go away. That's what he wants. And by the way, maybe there's also something to say for the fact that he wanted to work with us. You know, we had three fights with him. We unfortunately were blocked from making the undisputed fire. And he had to go and have a fight on PBC. They did everything they could to keep him, and he chose to come back to matrimony zone. So there's many different reasons that he chose not to take that fight. But give him a champion. That's what he wants. You know, he doesn't want to have voluntary defenses. He wants to fight champions that he can take belts off. And this Saturday is a very good example of where he can go up and be potentially the best light heavyweight in the world. And take another huge piece of that division and set himself up potentially with the winner of better be ever against Joe Smith, which would be an incredible undisputed fight..

"This is boxing with Chris Manning. Now somebody punch him in the face. Anthony Joshua is a composed and ferocious finisher. Watch this. Hosted by SI's Chris mannix. That was my moment. Now with interviews, analysis and everything going on in the world of boxing. When you have talent, you are given another chance. Here's Chris mannix. All right, my guess this week two of my favorite guys in all of boxing there, the co hosts of the disowned boxing show, which you can see every weekday on disown, daisy and dot com or the app. They also have called a fetish with getting punched in the chest by boxers. I find this to be, we might have to dive into this a little bit. They are aachen Barack. Again, the co hosts of the disowned box show. So which one of you wants to address kind of why you guys have this masochistic tendency to desire getting punched in the chest? I saw the Canelo one and then this week you guys were in Katie Taylor's gym hanging out with her letting her well away on you. So one of you like to address this? Well, I've been doing this for years, you know? I've been getting hit by box a few years, and when you get into the shape that I'm in, Chris, you'll learn to understand. It's not gonna happen. I got beaten by my beaten by my father so much. I'm like, you said I'm a masochist. I just like you. Yeah, I'm not looking to do that. People know this about me. I went three rounds with Juan Manuel Marquez about ten years ago. I never want to do that again. Ever. I'm good oh, that's pretty good though, three rounds. That's not bad. Yeah. He gave me a body shot that I think still hurts this day, like this still like a minor bruise. On my liver did you have, do you have a newfound respect for marques after that? Oh, yeah. What was funny? And people that listened to the show have heard this story before, but what was funny was we did it down at church street boxing down New York, downtown Manhattan. And I was there at a couple of guys from the gym training me for the last the previous 6 months. And marques walks in. And he was doing it for the PR. At that point, I think he was the 126 pound title holder, and he walks in. Not just with like, you know, a friend. He walks in with Nacho berry stain like he needs him. He walks in with a cutman like he needs that. And he walks in with members of the golden boy promotional team, like any of that matters. So it's like, immediately, I was intimidated. I was like, freaked out on my mind. You must've forgot who he was sparring. I think he did. No. He said my question is, oh yeah, right? You're so tall. But the question is, did he have a cup of piss with her? Ah, no. No, he did not, then. That came out years later. That was before he did the 24/7 where he was drinking his own urine. Anyway, appreciate you guys joining me here. And there's a few topics I want to jump into with you off the last week. And right at the top, I want to talk about Anthony Joshua, who has completed his search for a new head trainer. Angel Fernández, who has been a member of team Joshua over the last three years coming on in the aftermath of the 2019 loss, Danny Ruiz. He has been elevated to the head trainer position. So Joshua doesn't really add a new voice, but does shake up the top of his training team, replacing rob a kraken with angel Fernández. I'll start with you. What do you make of this? Is this the right move by Joshua? Are you surprised? He didn't go completely outside of his circle to make a move. Well, first off, I don't think it's a big move because Fernanda's has been part of his camp for the last three years. I mean, a lot of times you might have a head trainer in the ring giving instructions, but a lot of work is done in the gym. And to my understanding Fernández has been a big part of his camp. So maybe on a surface, it looks different, but in reality, it's not really shaken up that much. It would be like Bo Mac and red. And that whole Terrence corporate team, one of those guys is the one that starts to give instructions to blood Crawford. It's not a big deal. I think that maybe he made his rounds and realized that, listen, I'm comfortable with my team. These guys are not teaching me something out of this world that I haven't seen before. So why make this big move? I think that we're not going to see much of I mean, I'm not saying we won't see a better Joshua in the rematch, but I don't think anything is shaken up that much. Yeah, I don't really think it's he's thinking like that. I don't think he's saying all these guys are not teach me something that I haven't learned before because I think if you go through a different coach, you might always learn something new. Straight up and down and it probably gonna do it the first day. That's what coaches do. You know, to dazzling you to be like, oh, wow. You know, to get you thinking. I think it's just what it boils down to is that he's loyal. He's very loyal. And since Fernández was already in the camp, that's who he went with. And I don't know how we could really make an assessment when we don't even know what and what angel really can provide to Joshua except that support that, you know, mentally, you know, now we do see what he did with Isaac Chamberlain, you know, yeah, he, after that loss of Cole, he's turned them into a better fighter, but we don't know what he can do with Joshua. So why are you saying what he can do with him? But the reality is he's been there, so it's not like if AJ was doing something wrong, it's not like him and mccracken don't have a relationship where he can implement whatever he feels AJ and he should do. So where's the real change going to be if he's already infused into that camp? Yeah, sometimes it's like you're the second guy in that camp in the corner and you're trying to say something totally different or maybe you see something different or maybe there's times when he spoke to Joshua on the side and like I needed you to do this. I think you should have did this. I think you should have applied more pressure. And maybe Anthony Joshua's realizing it and saying, okay, you know what? I'm going to put you in. I think he's going to get a raise. Of course. Of course he is. A big cut of that pie. Here's why I understand the move from Joshua's perspective. Any new trainer worth his salt is going to say, look, I need at least two warmup type fights with you to get you adjusted to me to get me adjusted to you. Joshua, at least as he was making this decision, did not have that luxury. He was going straight into the rematch with Alex and usage. So if I'm Joshua and he spent a lot of time as you guys know, visiting with Eddie Renault with Robert Garcia with all the top trainers over in the U.S.. If I'm Joshua, as much as I might have liked what I was hearing from the U.S. based trainers, a lot of it might have been new. And I don't know if after taking the kind of beating that he took against Alexander usyk, I don't know if he necessarily wanted to learn something entirely new.

"Career made hundreds of millions of dollars. Ryan García is going to be on the same trajectory. He's falling the same way taking the same page if it works for him. Good. But you're asking me as a fighter widely perfection, why leave the trainer of the year? Why leave training under the guide of the number one fighter in the world? I just do not understand it. Well, then what if what Ryan García has said is true that Eddie Reno was not around as much as he needed him to be to be his trainer. And Ryan even dragged a Virgil Ortiz into this. I'm going to repeat what I just said. Maybe that made him hungry. It's kind of like not I don't really get that though. I'm about to explain it. You grew up with a father at home, right? I did, yes. You're not hungry. I had no father figuring home. That makes you hungry. That makes you different. That makes you, yeah, it makes you a little bit bitter. It makes you like I'm missing something, but a chip on your shoulder, like I'm missing something. You go looking for what you for what you didn't have. That hunger or whatever you want to call it. Maybe I'm using the wrong word for hunger. But that missing part. Edge, there you go. That missing part in your life or in your camp is what's going to keep you wanting more, keep you hungry and I think that maybe was what Brian Garcia had in that camp would they really know? So the fact that he was a little bit bitter or jealous or the fact that he wasn't getting the shine, but he didn't deserve the shine. You're under Canelo's wing. You're in Canelo's Canada. You're number two. Accept that and keep striving for more keep being hungry. That's what makes fighters the hunger whenever you get all the shine. You get all the attention, maybe that hunger is going to take a back seat. We're going to find out. You know, every time you see my father, you say, I wish I had a dad. Mister mannix, I love you. I love you. I don't even know you, but I love you. One thing I know you like though is that even though you don't like the split between Eddie Renault so and Ryan García, you do like that Ryan García is now working with Joe goosen. Why is Joe goosen the right fit for Ryan García? I like Joe goosen for Ryan García because Ryan García has erect style of fighting. He fights kind of stiff. They will crawl this at a mean left hook, Ryan García has a mean left hook. But aside from coral is the relax burns Gabriel and Raphael relax, same thing, they fought straight up, that mean left hooks, good uppercuts, fall behind the jab. He likes lanky power punchers. He trains them really hard. They get great sparring in Southern California valley area. And Joe gusen is one of the greatest trainers in the world, not only not only that, but he he puts the work in every great trainer from Freddie roach to Joe goosen to a Reno. So they have the IQ, they know how to bring the strategy, but they put in the work. You got to work hard if you're going to be in their gym. And I've trained in the valley with goosen. I've trained some of his fighters. I mean, I sparred with him. And what they lacked in talent, they made up in hard work. And they made things even. So Ryan García has the talent, which is going to have the hard work. And he doesn't take no shit. Doesn't take no shit. Yeah, one thing I like about Joe is that he has had a burning desire to work with Ryan for years..

"Not to mention he's preparing Oscar Valdez for April 30th. And he has other fighters in his gym. So, you know, I don't feel like they broke up on bad terms necessarily, but you know, I don't think that he could go wrong working with Joe goose and Joe's a great trainer. It should be in the Hall of Fame someday. And you know in Eddie's a great trainer also and it's good to have the options. Yeah, it is good to have an option like Joe Gus and who has, as you said, is excellent. And I remember talking to Joe a year and a half, two years ago for a story I wrote about Ryan and he couldn't have been more complimentary of Ryan and a bigger believer in his skill set and always lamented not being able to work with Ryan as a professional after working with him while he was coming up the amateur ranks I guess the question I have Dan was like, why? Was it as simple that Eddie Renault so didn't have as much time for him in which case it's a familiar story as you well know in boxing. I mean, José Ramírez left Freddie roach because he wanted more one on one time. More recently, Virgil Ortiz left Robert Garcia in part because he wanted more one on one time. When guys start to reach a certain level, they want the attentiveness that comes with being on that level. So that part of an understand. What I do wonder, Dan is how much Canelo's criticisms had to do with it last year Canelo came out and said Ryan was not as dedicated to boxing as he should have been. And how did Garcia take that? Was that one of the reasons that pushed him out the door? Because even if he wasn't getting the kind of attention that he may have wanted, he was in a good situation. He was working out with the reigning trainer of the year who had added things to his game that had made him better. He was in the gym every single day with the pound for pound king who works as hard as anyone in boxing. So he had a great trainer, a great boxing role model, and he chose to walk away from those things. So I guess I'd love to hear the truth about why ride elected to leave because, you know, his father said some things about Ryan wanting to start his own gym. I don't really get that. That was a weird one..

Now with interviews, analysis and everything going on in the world of boxing. When you have talent, you are given another chance. Here's Chris mannix. Boxing with Chris mannix part of the volume sports podcast network and my guest this week, one of my favorites. Dan rayfield, longtime boxing writer, he is the writer of the great newsletter fight freaks unite. You can subscribe to that newsletter by going over to substack, easiest way to do it is go to dance Twitter account at Dan rayfield one and sign up there. What's happening, Dan? Hey, Chris, how are you today? Good to talk to you again. I am doing pretty well. A lot of going on in the boxing world though. And I want to, I want to cover a lot of ground here on this podcast. And Dan, let's start with some outside the ring news, and that involves Ryan García. One of the biggest young stars in boxing undefeated, but offer a while had some mental health issues early in 2021, had some physical issues later in 2021, but is scheduled to return in early April against Emmanuel tego, and he will do it with a new trainer in his corner, Garcia announcing this past week that he has parted ways with Eddie Renault and will team up with Joe goosen for his next fight and presumably the fights beyond that. Give me a reaction to I guess surprising news that Garcia was splitting with Renault so. Well, you don't hear about a lot of guys leaving Eddie number one because he is considered at least at this moment probably the number one trainer in the sport. He's the reigning trainer of the year. He obviously has been a huge reason why no Alvarez has achieved the kind of success that he has. You know, he is the man behind Canelo both in terms of it as a strainer as well as his manager, steering him in the business side as far as becoming a promotional and broadcast for agent and doing these short term deals and Canelo being able to rake in huge amounts of money because of those short term short term deals as well as just general popularity. So you don't hear about guys packing up and leaving that camp. But if you're going to leave Eddie Reno so, Joe goosen, in my opinion, has been one of the most underrated trainers as long as I've covered boxing..

"Just assume Jersey jets I am a Jets fan, but basketball player today. Zach Wilson era underway, ready to go back Wilson error yes. Well, at least shoot out the Giants right now. I guess that you could be worse. Absolutely. All right, Keith, let's jump in to some of the news this week. I want to start with Canelo Álvarez, who may be at least trending towards a decision for his next fight, our friend Mike Carpenter over at ESPN first reported that Canelo was closing in on a two fight deal with matchroom boxing that would see him face Dimitri beeville for bee balls, 175 pound title that fight would be in May. And then in September, the big one, a third fight against Gennady Golovkin completing one of the better rivalries of this recent era Eddie Renault so the trainer for Canelo Álvarez, the manager for Canelo Álvarez, he came out on social media on Thursday and said, look, we've got offers. We're sifting through them. Nothing is done yet, but you know, I kind of hear a lot of the same things Keith I know you report a little bit on and unboxing scene about Canelo strongly leaning towards this deal. It seems like, at least as we record this, this is the direction he's going, what do you think of it? And are you surprised that this is the path he seems to be choosing? Not necessarily just because of the money, Kris, I was in Las Vegas over the weekend for the key Thurman Mario barrios extravaganza at Mandalay bay. And I started hearing that morning that the zone had upped its offer from two fights and 82 fight $80 million guarantee toward a deal that could ultimately be worth $100 million for two fights which obviously has some contingencies to it. But that's an enormous amount of money, obviously. I guess I guess from the other side of it from the showtime PBC side of it, they can offer a lot of money as well. And for the Jamal Charlotte, he was guaranteed would be roughly 45 million more than he would have made or more than he did make for the Caleb Plant fight. So they're offering him a lot of money for the one fight. I guess ultimately what it depends upon for Canelo Álvarez is does he want to fight triple G a third time? And of course, the way they've moved forward here in their careers. You would have to heavily favor Canelo algorithm a third fight against triple G, this seems to be something that the disown executives are hell bent on making happen because it has been the fight that they've been pursuing since they launched the streaming service three and a half years ago as you well know, Chris. They still want the fight. It's still a marketable fight. It's not as big as it was when they signed both fighters in the fall of 2018 and then in the spring of 2019, it's lost some of its luster just because they've headed in different directions, get out of love and will be 40 years old in April. He barely has fought in the last two years, so it's lost some of its luster. It's still a big fight. It's still a marketable fight. I guess what it depends upon for Canelo Álvarez because the money isn't going to be that different for fighting fighting..

"Draw a line somewhere right. I mean but some people. Don't look. I'm gonna i'm gonna pay my eighty bucks. I'm going to steal it. Or however they're consuming the fights and they don't really care what these guys are doing now again if someone's running around beating up women and raping women and you don't care well there's something fundamentally wrong with you but i do think that there is a certain segment of the boxing public and the public at large that views. It that way. Yeah i think. That's that's true. And i think it can also be said for some people in boxing. Remember mike tyson was released from prison. Don king was waiting for him and he was ready to cash in on them as soon as he got out of jail from serving time for rape impossible to seamlessly transition from matt conversation. But let's talk about the fight. We have coming up this weekend. Between canelo alvarez an kayla plant cannella holds three pieces of hundred and sixty eight pound title kayla. Plant has the last one. There's been some bad blood between these two guys keith. Where kayla plant has dug up the old allegations from three years ago of cannella alvarez using performance enhancing drugs if we all recall before the second galactic and fight tested positive for clenbuterol a banned substance. He claimed it was tainted meat. Go off to went after him. Pretty good in abel sanchez went after him. Pretty good in the build up to that fight can seem to take it out on gough. Get in that fight. That was probably one of if not the best performance that we've seen from low alvarez given the caliber of the opponent that was in front of him kayla plant kind of poke in that bear again. What are you. let's start there. What do you make of kayla plants. Kind of bringing this stuff. Back up again bringing it to the forefront do you think he's a true believer in what he's saying or might there be some strategy there to kind of take out of his game. I think it's a combination of both chris. I think maybe he believes that canelo is a dirty fighter but also he's trying to piskun mellow off and get him off of his game a little bit. I dunno what he said kello on the stage back in september but whatever it was it made cannella lose his cool now says it's because he called his call them a mother effort and he took that the meeting was talking about. Don't you think don't you think he's like i watched that show time. I don't think he said anything on that. Stage besides the usual kind of back and forth. I think when rage cannella was the stuff before that when the oscar does thing happened in kayla plant linked into camello and eddie renault so i think he was already got at boiling point before he stepped on that stage which might speak to now. I don't think it's going to really matter on saturday. Because i frankly don't think that kayla plant is good enough to be canelo alvarez but but it might speak to him getting into canals head and making cannella loose cool. We were with cannella implant yesterday. After the grand arrivals a small group of us got each of them downstairs at mgm grand garden arena and we spoke to them about the the press conference melee and all that and Eddie rain also and canelo alvarez said he's you know he's kind of like he's unflappable when he can't get in his head and.

"Crystal the one that you and i have discussed this on the podcast before the biggest thing are the biggest obstacle to there being real comprehensive drug testing and not only for the oscar valdez is of the world of the rapport The people who are fighting it in the main events but everyone down to the to the you know seven. Twenty two fighter from arkansas. Who is brought in to take a beating for all intensive purposes. Those fighters are not drug tested Look anyone with any a moral. Compass would say that the the worst fighter on the cards life is every bit as valuable as the best fighters card best fighters life on. The car should be right. So why is there not comprehensive drug testing done for the four round fights that no one sees an only for the higher level televised fights In some cases not even those but there should be comprehensive testing but the biggest obstacle for that happening is who pays for it because it's very expensive and the promoter doesn't want to absorb the cost. The television network doesn't want to absorb the cost. The fighters don't want observe the costs and local. Governments certainly shouldn't be Absorbing the cost because taxpayers most of whom could not care less about. Boxing should not be picking up ten to make sure that this sport is safe. That baseball pays for its drug testing right. Football pays for its drug testing. The nba pays for drug. Boxing has to figure out a way. And whether it's pulling all the money together from the fighters from the commissions from the sanctioning organizations who what do they do exactly besides take money. Great maybe somebody's belts would have been created with your dick that make the other park by the way the wbz like bbc says has did nothing wrong but they basically put him on probation too. So which is like did he do something wrong. Or didn't they they. they're trying to straddle the fence on this again chris. Oscar valdez himself. Can't tell you whether he did something wrong. He said i have lit. I'm quoting him. I have no idea how that got in my system. What that may very well be true. Let's just give them the benefit of the doubt. Although i'm not sure he deserves but let's just say give them the benefit of the doubt. It's your responsibility as a fighter to know everything. And i mean everything that goes into your system right so same. Same principle applies to kilowatt-hours however that happened right l. ever clenbuterol got into his system. It's his responsibility and look. He was suspended for six months. And it postponed. The gatty can rematch. I don't know why You know. I'm not sure that the two things are exactly comparable but the point is at least canelo alvarez face some consequences whereas oscar bell does has not. Yeah i agree Last thing on this. What did you make of kayla. Plant injecting himself for lack of better word into the situation. It's an as injecting is an interesting word. It is yeah. I guess i wonder what did you think of that of jalen. Plant kind of tying yellow into this and effectively. Saying eddie renault's.

"Are you kidding. We have not heard canales side of the story yet. I haven't been able to speak to anyone in canals camp outside of eddie her. He's simply been saying they just couldn't come to terms on an agreement it just does it did that. Strike you as weird because that would be the first time can hello. Can i would request that. It does and it did. Strike me odd too. That caleb plant is taking the bull by the horns and detailing all of these key He's doing what he's doing is basically repeating. What al haynes telling him right like out. You know this isn't like not on the phone with eddie renault. So in kayla. Plant zoom call. This is a this. Is the information that kayla plant is receiving and he is relaying it publicly to us i just. I don't know that that that is the provision that i've never seen kamilo come up with before love and we'd love to hear from cannella right now so and i know me personally as i'm sure you have to have been reaching out to them to try out some clarity on these points so Those efforts have been made. But you're absolutely right to buy a healthy dose of skepticism to this. I think what it ultimately comes down to. Chris is that l. Hayman is a smart businessman and he knows look. I'm basically giving you a fighter where no matter what kayla plant says. I'm basically giving you a fighter that is going to be giving up his belt. I think you know in doing so that i i deserve to have a second fight with you canal alvarez and to me that's always been the thing no matter whether someone saying it or not to me. That's the elephant in the room. And that's the ultimate point of this negotiation. You need to be with me more than just this one fight you need to Be involved with me more than just using me to take my champion and be able to declare yourself as the first fully unified one hundred sixty eight pound champion in the world and until i hear differently from any of the parties involved. I believe that that's the ultimate Sticking point in this negotiation that you know at this point does make it. Look as if it's dead and that know now. He's moved on to the to the idea of fighting dmitri baseball The one hundred seventy five pound champion. Having canelo's i mean can lose. No four like he's not he he's he knows that if kayla plant gets injured a fight would get push back. It happens in boxing. I can understand saying like look like a three month window where you can postpone this fight but you gotta do it within x. amount of time i just. I can't read my head around the idea that cannella would say all right. If kayla plant has to go out you've gotta give me anthony durrell for the same money like i just can't that doesn't make any sense to me. You're absolutely right. It is very weird of this. Being communicated by caleb plant but again you know it behooves cannella alvarez. Nato reno so to step forward and call these guys call these guys out and called for a psa you come out and say it but i mean look you can look at my phone. Several messages steady rain also and not really responding. So i don't know what's going on. I mean here's your opportunity again. You know you can reach out to you. The mir chris. At anytime anytime anytime. And look i would. I don't think that i don't know of any her nose..

"To be the person that i am right. Now won't credit your father no doubt about that. Now let's talk about. You can't ignore him. I mean you like u. n. Belcher were both originally from sonora mexico. The same state is that it no. We're actually i'm from new guy. He's from yucatan. Don and down south mexico but we both trade here in animal see. We both live here. We're pretty much neighbors. Suck details pretty crazy. You know we've got the chance to see each other different occasions. We've pretty much run into the same size. We eat at the same restaurants you know. There's a great possibility. I might seabra industries in the next couple days because We pretty much like say we're neighbors. You know that. That scene with him after the after the fight with you kneeling in front of him and he was on the stool. I gotta tell you. I've been around this game a long long time. And i think both mia marie ceo. We almost cried when we saw that it was just like it was so emotional. Losers it was heavy. It was real. It was real the feelings that we had. We said before before this fight you know. Once this contract was signed all that friendship off window you know there was no friendship. Wants to fight was was signed. A contract signed. But hey we're we're great friends. We know he's a great person. He's a great champion and we said a win or lose. We're still going to be still going to be friends. Still partners a boxing world. And that's what that's what we don't have to fight you know. I wish from not bad. There was times where i was obviously. I was jumping around excited. Because i accomplished my dream to become the bbc world champion. That's something i always dreamed of. Since i was eight years old so of course i was very excited. Jumping up and down with the moment. I saw him reacting. Not getting up. That worried me and they worried me a lot because i don't wish i don't wish them not too bad on the contrary once he got up. That's the reason why. I stepped walked up to him. Get on my knees and told him that i wish nothing. But he's he has a brother here with me and i told them soon. We're going to see each other. Don minimal sears. For noda and goal our need to have a good time. Because like i said. I don't wish. I don't wish that the bat okay tell us where it's like you eddie renault. So working with you of course. I saw a picture of unum and the and the ring afterwards once the idea of of the finger in front of the mouth. Does this quiet. What does that mean. Well was a lot of people talking saying that they were going to knock me out challenged. My career was over. I i wasn't the same fighter after the after. I got my job broken. And i that really bugged us. You know above me. And i really don't take the personal i really don't you don't for some reason i was special and and you know i took it from her. You know people doubting me a lot of friends will tell me that site was. It wasn't good for me. Because i was gonna lose. So dow message was to all those people who who doubted me and who kept on running their mouth and saying that i was gonna lose but at the same time you know. I'm just very happy that we won. You know hopefully hopefully no more effective with the finger. Say i was very special moment for me. That's why all those emotions were going through my mind. And that's why i do also myself. We told them the finger to could mouth quiet which was a big guy. A huge guy body wise. Maybe weighed like one hundred and forty pounds in a ring of not more size matters in two things pornography and combat. Sports are you going are you. Are you in a size disadvantage. One hundred thirty pounds of of always been like this. I've always been the sort of fighter in all the cases ever. Since i was in the olympics fighting one hundred twenty three pounds i was small and then when i was one hundred twenty six fighter i was a small fighter and now going to one hundred and thirty pounds. You know is nothing new to me. Being the smart to smaller fighter in the you know but but it was a bigger fight or you know there was something i hadn't faced before as far as as far as bigger advantage. I knew every moment that if he if he knows that one big shot fights over it because he carries a big heavy hand and he's he's probably wayne hundred and forty five pounds the site so i was very cautious inside the ring nine. Now now you know get that advantage. Not letting him be too comfortable in. They're all beating to punch and you're moving my legs all that. We worked out in the gym and work. Don't you know so the size that didn't work out so well can ask him about guest course. Wbz one hundred thirty pound champion on. What are you you go right back into training or you like kick back like roberto grand get fat. What do you do between fights won't the vendors that have had this experience. I've had already is that i. I did a chaplain before one hundred twenty six and i've made some mistakes and you learn from those mistakes for the first time i've become world champion. I celebrated for a whole month. I didn't do nothing for a whole month. I was with my family. We went down to the beach. You know where we were enjoying ourselves. You know knowing that we accomplished our dream to become a world champion hundred twenty six pounds. And then when i got back to the jim it was the worst experience of my life because it was very hard for me to give back shape knowing that i had a fight. Fermi had a fight in front of me against japanese fighter. Eater she wheels saw and for that fight. I wasn't leaving seventy percent rated for that and it was very scary. Because i could have lost my title bell in my first tired of fence so i told myself never gonna let that happen again. So now that. I've champion hundred thirty pounds. Promise myself that. I wasn't going to happen so as soon as i wonder if i i give it. I gave the body arrest for whole week. And then we're back to the jim. I got ready. I know there's a lot of hungry young fighters out there. They're gonna want to take this belt. So i gotta. I gotta be very disciplined. I gotta be very smart about this stain. The gem state ready. So i had to get ready. That's my mindset and you can also very now. I just got back from the gym right now. I'm here what you're right now. You know first things. I gotta hit the gym. I understood can nilo is the exception to the rule in the old days. You guys have a few drinks and get loaded and get fat and that kind of stuff but these sort of even chavis even talk about all. The cocaine he did in between fights has been clean as a whistle. Does.

"Stop the fight so we've got to be better smarter faster trying to get him to control. Make them open up The counterpunch was that tenth round knockout. Shot just a bomb that you landed to end the fight. What were you seeing there. It seemed like for most of that. Round burt show was the aggressor coming forward. And then you hit him with that shot. Like i said he was opening not was opening not a he just made that mistake in i slip to in length tug back as soon as i hit on my new. The fight was over. Nowhere celebrating running jumping up and down. Because i knew the fight was over on my caller crying. My father cry will trainer moments later. "The middle east and asia it will probability ability also reigned that that night for the first time i think in like six years was we call one of the few rainstorms out there in saudi arabia. It was pretty good. Yeah it was coming down. We were in raincoats. There for most of the night but still an interesting place to hold the flight. Let's talk about bird shelves and valdes burchill. I think is the number one guy. One hundred thirty pounds valdez. Believes that is the number one guy valdez. Making the move up. You've got kind of a small body of work. You've got the atom lopez fight. And you've got the jason voulez fight. Have you seen enough from bird. Shelter in those are from bow. Dez rather in those two fights to make you believe. He's got a shot at beating. Miguel no really saw the surveying. You fight the marianna graphite and more quick to know that you never count valdez. Had of a fight small agai. There's no question about. But i think is boxing intellect far exceeds for shell shelve is powerful guy big punch but i felt as it for the big big chance i agree. He's a smart smart fighter. His instincts seems to be to get into firefights kennedy afford to get into a firefight with burchill that up that he renault's who is mad at who is training Oscar great relationship and any will hung. "We already knew a few things about ryan garcia before. He stepped into the ring last week and we knew we were popular. We knew he was powerful. We could draw crowd when he left the ring. He also became accomplished garcia. Stop luke campbell. In the seventh round is eighteen th knockout in twenty one fights the most significant win of his career and it puts him right in the mix for all the high level fights in twenty twenty. One ryan joins me here on the show. Right let me start here the best. Dm or text message that you got after. That win was from who really. Yeah how to be manny pacquiao. I mean those awfully off the other great people that message me but the one that meant the most me was many pekka He said congratulations and then He said ryan. It's your turn to inspire others feel. It made me feel real good. I still feel good about it right now. You reply banks wanna fight now. I wouldn't do that now. So is geraci. It'd be different story exactly. I just before get into the fight your corner watching it cracks me up because eddie renault also is so demonstrative moves around a lot speaks loudly. And you're sitting there. And like i know there are bits and pieces. You're picking up what he's saying in spanish but you see your head kinda look your father every few minutes like what's what these what's these a no i. "Nosso talk with them. They worked out a cooperative arrangement. Where the head trainer. But henry garcia is on board as the number two. And i think that's brought even more out of ryan garcia. Where do you do again. You've seen a lot of guys like how do you view garcia's talent. I think it's what's really interesting about. Ryan garcia is that he's involved in a lot of things. I mean like you mentioned the social media you mentioned like some of the are at least some of the tmz episodes that he's been involved in You know the the baby mama drama that he's involved in and all of that we say like oh us lance hasn't had baby mama drama happens. Well we sports writers. Maybe we have know Yes you know. I think the the thing is is that he walks is high wire of everything. Going on in a lot of us are a lot of the outsiders who are look at ryan garcia's are saying like. Oh he's going to be distracted by any one of these things but the truth is is that i think ryan garcia when he's in the gym. He's paying attention the boxing when he's in the presence of eddie ray now so he soaking up everything that he can possibly hear from this man. Same thing when he's rubbing shoulders with the stablemate canelo alvarez. They've built up a great friendship. That certainly ryan has capitalizing upon and listen to To become a better fighter. And you're absolutely right. I can remember. Chris being out here in southern california there were some i would say appears of ryan garcia who mentioned those flaws in his game. I can think of a conversation i had with. Daniel franko franco out here in his father. Al who trains them and they would say like. I don't think ryan's gonna make it. But like you said he'd looked he'd look. You took an honest assessment of where he was. He joined forces with eddie ray now so to make himself a better fighter and again i see with What this fight against campbell. He is a. He is aware of what he needs to do to win. This fight and i think you will see a completely prepared ryan garcia for this stiffest a test of his career. Yeah one thing. I'm eager to learn about garcia's what happens. After the first round like he's he's four no in his four fights with eddie renault so but the last two. The two toughest tests have ended after less than one round of peace. So i'll look luke. Campbell may get stopped. I'd be shocked if you've got stopped in the first round..
